    When I moved and bought my own house, I started with Direct Energy. I haven't had any problems with them and it hasn't given me any problems. The first time I dealt with their CS team was when I was signing up and the next time was when I switched over. The reps were both good. Back in May, I got an email and at the end of the email, it said, "You could call this number to ask more questions," and so that was when I called. I used to do the prepaid and just last month, I switched over to the monthly. My favorite thing about the whole thing is that I can pay for it online so I’m not late.

    I had an energy provider and they told me about Direct Energy. The rates or some plans that they had helped me make a decision to move on to them. They are better than my previous carrier because of the plan that I have. It started to get a little bit more expensive and I started to question it a little bit but I don't know if it was because of the area that I was on or the appliances that I had. Right now, the bill has come down a little bit but there are some other providers that are a little bit cheaper and reliable. I am on the free weekends plan and I like it. I'm a working person so I'm not at my place during the week and most of my energy consumption is on the weekend. To me, it's beneficial.

    The experience with Direct Energy has been good. We haven't had outages and when we do, they're resolved pretty fast. If there are outages, it's a major outage everywhere, not just my home. So, that's good reliability. I would refer Direct Energy but I would ask people to look over their plans first. For me, the plans work but for some other people, it might not.

    We just got hit with a storm yesterday and now we're being told to prepare to be without power for two to three days. But how are we supposed to prepare for that? We’re not gonna get any sort of reimbursement for any of the food that’s going bad in the fridge and for anything that’s going on. I’m not happy at the moment. We’re without power. There was zero communication with Direct Energy. They didn't tell us to expect power outages or be prepared. The power went out then two hours later, they finally sounded out an announcement about what's happening and about the power lines.

Direct Energy cannot determine when an outage will occur unless we have interrupted your services due to non-payment for which we do issue a disconnection notice prior to the disconnect date. In the event of a power outage or bad weather, we recommend contacting the local utility for any updates via phone or their website.

    We are aware that several severe storms passed through the state and the local utilities are actively working to restoring power to thousands of customers. The utility is encouraging customers to examine their meter based and weatherhead to inspect for damage. If damage has occurred, you will need to contact an electrician before power can be restored.

    A lot of different providers offered me their services. I liked everything about Direct Energy such as their prices. My bill was cheaper than what I had expected for a month, especially I was in a two-bedroom apartment. And before I moved to the one I’m in now, I had switched to a lot of electricity provider because they all kept overcharging me and they kept sending me double bills for stuff that I had already paid. Direct Energy is more upbeat. They are more straightforward and the price stays the same. Direct Energy is really good. I’m happy with it right now. It’s going really well for us. Back in May, I contacted them. I needed a little bit of an extension because I was gonna get paid on a Friday and I knew the electricity bill was coming up so I told Direct Energy I would get paid. They helped with that.

    I was looking to find a lower rate three years ago and I found Direct Energy. They seemed to be the most competitive rate at the time. The experience has been good but last time, I wasn’t directly notified that my plan had expired. When I went on their website to pay the bill, I looked at my left-hand side and I saw energy savings or plan change. So, I got in and changed the plan. However, I did not realize that the rate was based on energy usage. For example, if I use 1000 kilowatts or less a month, I would pay 10.1 cents per kilowatt hour. If I increased it to 2,500, then it would decrease to 8.1 cents. I was assuming that by signing up with that one-year plan, no matter what my usage, I would receive the same rates. So, in that way, I was a little disappointed.

    The customer service at Direct Energy has always been excellent and the cost has remained the same. We have a lot of leaks, cracks in doors and stuff we need to be repaired, put more weathering strips and so forth that would keep the hot air and cold air from coming in. Plus, the appliances over the years have changed and upgraded and they’re very energy efficient so that’s reflected in our bill and my usage.

Existing customer renewal rates may be reviewed in your online portal or by speaking with an agent.

    During each renewal period, there are multiple plans to review in your online portal that consists of different promotions. Please keep in mind, as with many companies, rates are subject to change each renewal period based on the market.

    When reviewing the renewal rates, the 3 tiers displayed in the EFL are the average price per kWh based on those specific usage amounts including the TDU (local utility) fees, however, it is the energy charge provided below the tiers that you are actually agreeing to pay per kWh and displayed on your monthly invoices.

    I was moving into my first apartment and had a couple of friends that used Direct Energy. Their prices are super affordable. I'm single and only have one income. Plus, working with them makes life super easy. Anytime I have an issue like if my payment didn’t go through, they're super quick to respond back. Every time I call, I never had to wait for very long. They always pick up the phone pretty quickly. And mostly, they literally fix problems within 15 minutes. I also like that they're part of CenterPoint because CenterPoint always calls me if we have an outage and tell me when they are gonna have it fixed. Then they also call back once it's fixed. I love Direct Energy. I refer my friends to them a lot.

    I was with Direct Energy for 2.5 years, they were a good company until I forgot to renew this past April. My bill went from .04/Kwh to .17/kwh!!!! This should be illegal... This is more than 3 times the rate! Isn't this called price gouging? I was within a few days of my renewal deadline and they were not forgiving, and then to top it off it takes 2 more billing cycles for the cancellation to finalize. Two months of over $400 bills! Even the NYSEG rep was surprised to hear how much they were charging. Yes, granted, it was my bad that I forgot to renew, but what the hell happened to giving someone a break and at least working with them to come up with a reasonable agreement. Nothing but greed... I will NEVER recommend this company to anyone.

    Regarding the invoices, they will fluctuate monthly depending on the usage consumed and the amount of days included within the dates of service. For example, when enrolling for services the first invoice may be less due to the billing cycle and may consume less usage during a short period of days, while next month could be higher due to increased usage and longer amount of days included in the billing cycle.

    I like that I have lower bills with Direct Energy. I've always had great service, too. Otherwise, I wouldn't have stayed with them for so long. And I'm getting ready to have to cancel it because they don't service the area where I moved to. So, I'm not very thrilled about that, but I can't help where they service or not service.     If I could give a negative star rating for this company, I would!! They overcharge for services, and customer service does not pick up. Waiting time was over 50 minutes, and still no agent. Did an online chat, really getting nowhere. Simple enough, you still don’t get a better deal. Contact your provider with rates. For example, NYSEG can not charge a mark up of what the purchase price is. This company does. Buyer beware!!!! When you pay $0.13/kWh and $0.77/therm more than what you should, that is highway robbery!! They should be investigated!!

    I started with Direct Energy in March and so far, so good. The rate they gave me was interesting and good. I’m paying way less than with other energy companies.     I had Reliant before and then I switched to Direct Energy. I used to have 8.6 kilowatts and the weekend free. When I was trying to get renewed, I talked to their customer service and they offered me 12.5. But when I went online, I got 12.0 for one year. The offer online was better than what they offered when I called in. I used to always do two years, but I only did it one year this time because it was too close for my deadline and I found a better deal when I went searching to renew.

    We had Bounce Energy before, and they said they were ending their company and they were transferring us to Direct Energy. I’ve always had pretty good service with Bounce, and Direct has pretty much given us the same, good-quality service that we needed.     We’ve been a customer of Direct Energy for a long time. It’s one of the first ones I looked up and they had a good deal so I went with them. Over the past five years, there has been a little bit more engagement. I do everything online and I like that feature. That’s been pretty consistent. There was one time I called and chatted via email with a representative. I had referred a friend to their $50 credit and she used my referral code.     I was with Ambit Energy before and a co-worker told me about Direct Energy. Their price was lower per kilowatt than Ambit's and they were having a good thing so I was getting 8 cents a kilowatt at the time I switched over to them. Also, their website is very user-friendly and things are so online-driven now that I don’t ever really have to talk to anybody anymore. Compared to that, Ambit's website wasn’t as user-friendly and their contract wasn't as clearly defined. So, working with Direct Energy has definitely made things easier.

    But they used to be a lot better compared to Blaze, TXU and other companies and their rates really haven’t been much lower as of late. I’m also a little frustrated that they didn’t notify me when my contract went up. My rate went from 10 cents a kilowatt to 18 cents a kilowatt when my contract expired and I wound up getting a bill that was double compared to the previous month's.

    I also feel like the communication hadn’t been as good as it had been in the past. Before, they had different deals and for the last two years, they said that if I signed up, they'd send lanterns to another country that had no electricity. I thought that was really cool. I wholeheartedly liked Direct Energy because of the giving back and I was very disappointed that there was not an option for that this year. That program made me feel like I was already paying for my electricity and at least, they were also giving back to somebody else. But this year they didn’t notify me about any promotion and just said to sign up. There was no giving back like there normally was.

I got no problem with the service but I find it weird that every time I decide to renew our contract, they would say that I'm a first time customer when I've been with them since 2013. I'm always offered lower rates from what I usually have but I'm never informed when my contract expires and I would find out when I get a high bill.     I looked up some of the plans that were available for my ZIP code on the internet. I was trying to figure out what would be a good price for me, but I couldn’t make sense of it.     Direct Energy shot straight with me. They didn't ** me like TXU Energy did. I've been with them for two months now and it has been going great. They've done everything they said they were gonna do. Also, the cost is great. It's a decent rate I can afford. I was getting bills for $600 and it was outrageous. And now, I'm getting bills like half of that. So, I'm loving it.

    The customer service is topnotch. Switching to Direct Energy has put money in my bank account. The other energy company was misbilling me twice for the same thing. It was worded in a different language, but it basically means the same thing. And it took one of Direct Energy's guys to recognize that and tell me that essentially were just ripping me off.     My contract with another provider was up and it was due, and a saleslady from Direct Energy came at the right time. I’m now a customer for Direct Energy, and my monthly bill has been quite steady. That’s one of the things I like. There are no spikes.     It's usually in the summer months that we start getting double and triple the wattage charge. I do expect to see the upper bills. But we are rarely home during the summer, and we should not still be paying 4,000 kilowatts a month. So we decided to change providers and went to Direct Energy. Their sales representative was phenomenal. She listened, looked at my other bills and pretty much said the same exact thing as me. There's absolutely no way in the world that happened. So she understood my frustration. I liked her quite a bit.

    I've paid two bills now, and it went up $18 from one bill to the next. So that's pretty good, considering we were in the 70's one month, and we're 85 this month. So $18, I can deal with that. Hopefully, next month, we start hitting the 90's and it only goes up $50. Then, I'd be happy. I'd like to keep it under that $300 mark. As of right now, I would recommend Direct Energy.

    A few years ago, someone came to the house and they were talking about saving money on energy.     Our experience with Direct Energy has been going good so far. I recently had their service renewed and thus far it's affordable for two people staying in an apartment. However, I had one concern after my one year was done. I was overcharged. I didn’t have a clue that my term was done and then I had to renew it. But then when I called in to the customer service, they said that they have mentioned it in the last stages of the bills. I even called and messaged but I haven't been able to check all that. Other than that, the service is good. The customer service representative that I spoke with was okay, and his communication skills were okay, but not too good. He transferred the call to the manager to check over the issue then she figured it out and it was all settled.

    Direct Energy has been awesome. I liked their rates compared to other providers. And they’re non-hassle. They’d call you, but they don’t hassle you like other energy bills. If you tell them you’re gonna pay a certain day, they don’t harass you like other ones I’ve had before. I’ve always had a lower monthly bill and what I also like with Direct Energy is that they have the weekends free. I’m usually not there. When I go to work, I don’t use a lot of energy, so I saved a lot of money. On the weekends is when I’m usually home with my husband and child. So, that’s when we use a lot of energy. And we know that during that time, we use the most energy. And we get free weekends, so our bill’s usually low.

    The team at Direct Energy is very friendly. If I know that if I missed a bill, and if I knew that I missed it or if I don’t have the automatic payment, they’re like, “Oh, yeah. You’re kind of a little bit late on the bill. If you can make the payment within a week, we’ll be grateful because we don’t wanna cut off your energy.” And they’d give you a call before they do that. So, it’s really awesome that they do that type of service and they don’t harass you. And at one time, I was short of money for nearly two and a half months, and I explained my situation. They were actually helpful during that time as well. So, that’s why I’ve become a very loyal customer to them. I have no issues with them.

    Direct Energy's service is wonderful. I think technology has made it wonderful where they can turn things on, turn things off, read your meter, and all that stuff without being there. Technology has helped them improve their service. The team at Direct Energy was good. And also, my wife kinda damaged our power line, and they came out and calmed her down. Mike was the guy that showed up and made her feel very comfortable, and she didn’t take power out for the neighborhood.

    She was pulling her RV into our spare piece of property, and when she made the turn, the tail end of the house swung out, snagged and pulled the telephone line that’s not in use, but it stretched the line beyond belief. When it finally parted, it made the power pole dent, which in turn made the line dent, and they come into contact with each other - submeters and breakers out on the power pole. We still can’t get electricians out here to fix the damage. Down here in Dilley and Cotulla, the oil patch has everybody busy, so we’re still waiting on electricians to come out and make repairs. But with Direct Energy, things are good.

    Years ago, we logged on to a website called Power To Choose. There was an 800 number that you could call and on the other end, someone not affiliated with any company would walk you through what charges were actually there, because a lot of times, it was so confusing. The person on the other end helps you compare companies so you're comparing apples to apples. When we did, we felt that Direct Energy fit our needs the best and we've never been disappointed. We've used Reliant before and Direct Energy is so much more affordable and the plans are way better. Our bill dropped so much when we switched to them so we just kept signing up. They're also really quick to alert us when there is a power outage and that there are people working on it. They do a very good job of communicating, too. Right now, we're not on a plan. Our contract ran out and we're on a month-to-month with them. And even that has been lovely and affordable.

    I was a customer of Direct Energy several years ago and I've switched back to them for about a month now. My experience with them was good enough for me to return after using Our Energy who charged me about $80 too much. I have a one-bedroom apartment and my electric with Our Energy has been running $180. They also charged me a $300 deposit. Also, even though they overcharged me every month for almost a year, they still charged me the $175 termination fee. But with Direct Energy, my bill went down to 127. There was immediately a drop when I switched. Also, with them, there’s always somebody who answers the phone right away.

    I saw some friends were using Direct Energy so I like to give it a try and my friends referred me. I've had a very good experience so far and they have a very fair rate. I like that it's a lower rate too. Month by month, it's very convenient for a landlord waiting for a month or two on the property and it’s much better than the term service. I don't have to cancel it or they may charge a fee for hydropower month-by-month. However, I had a bill due one day some time ago and a customer service representative called me and gave me some options. I said that I would like to pay and then I got redirected and talked to an agent. The agent spent about 30 minutes to find out my information and to figure out the situation. Other than that, the service is very good and the month-by-month plan is very suitable for my situation. I also recommend Direct Energy to a lot of friends and I show them how much I pay.     We were with Just Energy and we moved, and we couldn’t have electricity where we work. We moved in with my dad. So, I was gonna go back with them because they were reasonable before and it turned out that Direct Energy was cheaper, so we went with them instead. Direct Energy's service was awesome. We didn’t have any issues with them and we’re not having any issues with them. Signing up wasn’t an issue as well. They had a flag saying that we had to pull a permit to get it turned on because we were in Royse City. And it turned out that Reliant had their information across because even though we’re in Royse City, we're in Verandah, so we don’t have to have that permit. So, it kinda put off getting the electric turned on as quickly as we needed it turned on. But that was on Reliant. I have recommended Direct Energy.

    I've had Direct Energy for many years and my bill has gone up. It used to be cheaper. I called in and asked why my bill is so high. The guy said he's gonna give me 16 watts.     I've had Direct Energy for years and at that time, I got something that offered a lower price. But with the last couple of contracts, their rate has gone up. And the price this year was too high. I will not be with them in the future if they do that again. Also, there’s something about this electricity that doesn’t make sense. If they charge based on consumption and if I consume more, I would get electricity for less. The problem is that it discourages me from using less energy. And it goes in increments, like up to 1,000 or 2,000 kilowatts. I’m a bachelor and I don’t use as much energy, therefore I pay more for my energy. When electricity comes through to your house, one customer should not be charged any more than other regardless of how much you use because you pay a basic fee, and that should cover the cost. It shouldn’t waver at all.

    After spending more than a half hour on the phone trying to cancel my brand new contract I was told that All the computers in the call center in GUATEMALA were down and if I "still wanted to cancel" my contract I'd have to call back "in 3 or 4 hours" and go through the whole process again. What a scam! And customer service is in GUATEMALA?!? Are you kidding me? This is a joke of a utility company! I cannot get out of my contract fast enough!     A door to door salesman shows up and tells me he needs to check my energy bill to ensure I'm getting the most savings. After an aggressive and pushy sales experience, he gets enough info from me to sign me up for an account. Only after he leaves and I get the confirmation email do I discover that I'm now being switched to Direct Energy from my current provider. I did not want to switch, so I called the very next morning and cancelled my account. The contract guaranteed a 3-day, no penalty, grace period in which I could cancel. I received confirmation numbers for the cancellation of my account by email (after insisting they send me an email because apparently they don't, as a matter of company policy, confirm anything in writing unless it's to sign you up for something). Figured everything was all good.

    Seven days later I receive an email congratulating me for signing up with Direct Energy. Easy to forgive; sometimes automated emails fall behind actual paper trails. I decide to contact them again just to verify my account is cancelled. The rep I speak to has no record that I cancelled! So, I cancel again. Get new numbers confirming my cancellation via their chat service. 3 hours later I get another congratulatory email telling me to expect big savings in my next few billing periods. They refuse to cancel my account! Better Business Bureau contacted. ConsumerAffairs review written. I'm so glad I insisted on getting an email confirming my cancellation the day after I was enrolled, otherwise it'd just be my word against theirs. Do not sign up for an account with Direct Energy unless you want to be locked into an account with them with no way to get out of it.

    The billing at Direct Energy is crazy. There was supposed to be a set rate of 6 or 7 and it jumped up automatically after a year. It went up to 13 and I wasn't happy with it. They were also charging me a lot more per service fee. It's not supposed to be a service because it was coming from my area. I contacted Direct Energy and it's like hitting a brick wall.     Direct Energy offered the free 12 hours a day program. So far, they’re doing what they said they would do. It’s just that after the free 12 hours a day, which they told me I’ll have for at least 1 year, then I don’t know. I just got my bill in yesterday and it was very expensive. If I didn’t have the discount during the nights, my bill would be over $400. And this was the springtime. I didn't even run the AC one day and that was on 74. With the discount, my bill was like 220 or 230. Even so, I’ll be looking for other options because I’m not gonna be paying that much.

    I had Direct Energy since 2014, it's not 2019. I call and try to figure out why my bill is so high and trending up. They tell me I've been out of contract since 2015 after my contracted ended, and that I've been paying 17.7 -18 cents at market value. I told them I want to cancel my service then. I'll renew with my previous company that I never saw a 200 dollar bill but have been consistently 250+ with DE. They tact on a 295 dollar cancellation fee, and later tell me that I had a contract and it was ending in a month. I have been with them for 5 years, and this is what they pull. Would not recommended them to anyone. Horrible company to a 5 year member and never late service.

    My dad has Direct Energy and he referred me to them. He told me that the cost for their service was very cheap and that I won’t pay a lot. I got a contract for two years but after that the payment started going up. I renewed my contract with them, but now I’m gonna have a fixed rate for 36 months and that was pretty good. The rep that I talked to told me that all energy companies were going up with their rates, so he suggested that I get a fixed rate for at least three years. The reps also asked me if I always spent a lot of energy in the weekend and if I wanted the free weekends promo, but I told them that it was just me and my wife and we don’t have a lot of people in the weekends, so our energy was just the same, so they recommended whatever was better for me.     The rep that came to my door told me it would be 6.3 cents per kWh which was much lower than the 9.2 I had with Ambit. Turns out my rate is higher its 10.8. Per kWh and I’m fuming. I cannot stand shady business practices I switched because Ambit kills me during the summer months in TX, now apparently Direct Energy is planning on worse. So over corporations robbing people blind with practices like this, they outright lied and should be ashamed of themselves.

    I’m out of a job now and I could not handle to pay my previous provider. I switched out to Direct Energy. They told me it’s cheaper but I did not find it to be cheaper. The first day I called to connect with Direct Energy, I told the guy to find the cheapest plan for me and he told me that he was gonna give me the cheapest one. He did not tell me how much the price is gonna be and when I saw the first bill, it became expensive for me. I was told that Direct Energy can give me month-to-month service but when I talked to them to give me a month-to-month service, they told me that they don’t have it and they gave me a year service.     I had First Choice in Hitchcock and I was supposed to stay with them, but I was told I couldn’t get them out of Hitchcock. I ended up with Direct Energy but I never would have gotten them. They're a mess and I’ve been having problems ever since I’ve been with them. They're also very expensive. I received a $317 bill and I told them about that. I'd never had a bill like that in 52 years that I’ve been here. They cut it to 263 and this past week, I got more than 180 some odd dollars. I wish they would keep my bill lower. They go by the amount that they are charging for the energy, but it is extremely high. I am hooked up with a two-year thing, so I gotta stay and pay for it. I paid two-something before it went down some, but now it is $181. However, I got to wait for two years because I accepted a two-year plan. I’m about to search around and try to find someone else.

    I live in a one bedroom apartment with a cat. Heat is paid by the landlord. I work nights and I need my days to be telemarketer free or I don't get any sleep. Direct Energy calls me every day. If I don't answer, they call back three times in succession. If I do answer they torture me with trying to prove that I will save money with them. They call every day. They wake me up every day. I pay less than $40 a month, I don't care if they will save me $.70. I understand what that are saying, I will save $.70 a month and 'it's better in my pocket than in the electric companies pocket'... But I still don't want to switch and I keep asking them to stop calling me.

    So now, I call them, every time they call me, I call them and speak to all their sales representatives and tell them I don't want them to call me. I just started doing this and since they wake me up every day and I have nothing else to do once they wake me up, I call them. All their sales representative have promised me that they will stop calling me but they seem to be lying because they just keep calling. I don't want their service, they could be the greatest company since Wonder Bread, but I don't want their service. They are very sneaky and very unrelenting. Do you really trust any company that would torment a 60-year-old person when that person said no? They are not reputable.

    It seemed like I was doing alright with everything with Direct Energy. Then it seemed like every month, my bill was getting higher and higher. I looked at my bill last month and the usage was a kilowatt hour less, but the bill was still higher and I’m concerned about what happened with that. It was probably a good thing that I didn't talk to the rep because I was hot about all that. Also, I took an insurance policy out when I bought the house, and Direct Energy messed my bill up. They put me on some kind of automatic payment and the rest of it would go into late payments. It took me forever to get that straightened out. Every time Direct Energy tried to do something for me, it never came true and I had to cancel the insurance eventually.

    My girlfriend dealt with Direct Energy last time when I was trying to get the bill straightened out, and it wasn't very good. Two or three times, I talked to a supervisor to try to get a paper bill to come back to my house, and this went on for three or four months. I was not happy with that at all. It came to a point where my girlfriend and I were screaming and hollering, trying to tell them that all we are trying to do is get the paper bill to come to the house. I don’t know what they did when they changed the rest of the bill, and it was like nobody could understand that.

They also had free weekends, and that was very appealing. This is the first service I've gotten on my own and I felt comfortable and stayed with it. However, I had one mishap where another provider took my account and I didn't get billed.     The first time I signed up with Direct Energy, it was for a two-year at some rate. Then, allegedly, they sent me emails regarding updates, and I never got them, so I had wound up paying full fare which was a bit high. I've had no problem with customer service though. The problem I had was that it was not abundantly clear that my account was coming up for renewal. But they handled the situation very well, and eventually, we got re-upped at a reduced rate. However, I need to get with them again and ask if I am due for a re-up because I haven't seen an email from them regarding an update or renewal. Also, there's something going on regarding energy fees that I haven't talked to Direct Energy about. But I'm gonna tell them what's going on and what others are telling me. I'm looking for the letter with $600 credit from Reliant Energy, and one of the things that I'm doing this week is to call Direct Energy.

    I understand, and I wasn’t fully appreciative of this to begin with, that there are energy power line companies, and there are energy producers, and there are energy sellers. The market is rather interesting that there are companies that procure power and sell it to you at different rates. They guarantee a rate for a period of time, but that they can do so. The power line companies, meanwhile, are fine. They get their rate and they're happy. Then there are companies such as Direct Energy that can obtain power and sell it to consumers and to businesses. Direct Energy has to have us look at all those other rates out there, for us to see that their rates are lower. I'm very sure that a comparison is being done internally by every one of those companies out there, but I've yet to see any one particular comparison. No one seems to be doing that anywhere.

    My daughter in law works for Direct Energy, and I suppose I could ask her what's the real skinny. But I'm not going down that road because that's possibly a conflict of interest and there might be confidential materials that they are not able to divulge, so I've never even raised it with her. I know she gets a lower rate than I do because she's an employee, and that’s fine. But it would be nice if, when I do re-up with Direct Energy, they say, “By the way, we've done some general polling, and we might not be the lowest rate out there. For the product we're giving you, it is. Compare this with the two prime competitors, brand X and brand Y, and this is what you're getting.” But they don’t do any of that.

    There's an issue on transparency and the “This is why you should get with us” is not so evident. There are a lot of companies out there, and they all say similar things, but none of them are saying they're better than all of the rest because they have lower rates. It's an industry out there that’s not overly regulated. I don’t have any problems with Direct Energy. But it's strange because suppose power goes out, should I call Direct Energy or the energy transmission company? It's unlike the old days when you would deal with just one company. Now, it's a little different.

    I used to be with Reliant but I changed to Direct Energy because of their price. The only problem that I have is that, being an existing customer, my price increased upon the renewal of my contract in January. I noticed that a lot of advertisements for new customers are a lot better priced than what the company offered to keep me as a customer. And I really could not understand that. I’m paying 10 cents per kilowatt now, whereas it used to be 8 cents per kilowatt. That does not sound like a lot, but it is whenever I start getting my bills. Around this time last year, I was paying about $55, but in the last couple of months my lowest bill has been $73.

    Other than the pricing, my experience has been good. The people at Direct Energy understand my situation. I called them in November as I knew that my contract was coming up, and the guy that I spoke with was really helpful. He suggested that I call back in December to see if the rates had gotten any better. I would definitely recommend Direct Energy to other people.

    I signed up for Direct Energy to save money, not knowing I had to renew a contract or my rates would go to .10+. Last year I was going thru a divorce and had high bills, didn't think anything of it because I was concentrating on my family. This year my bill was $524.99 for one month. ONE MONTH! I live in a two year old mobile home. Two bedroom and there are only two of us living there. When I call Ameren I was told I was paying .12+ per KWH. Really? When I called Direct Energy they said it was because I did not renew my contract. After reviewing over a year's worth of bills I found I have been paying high rates all that time. Costing me more than half of what I should have been paying. No, find someone better than Direct Energy. I have.

    Sign up with Direct Energy. They give you all the updates and you can pay easily. You can do it online or on your phone. Plus they send you alerts when you need to pay. So that’s what I like. All I do is phone it in and get the payment done. I've used other providers in the past and compared to what I have with Direct Energy, they're very similar. On the other hand, I do appreciate when Direct Energy sends me the email telling me how much wattage I’ve used. But right now, I’m probably paying premium. My contract with Direct Energy has been up and I need to renew it so I can get a cheaper rate. I was trying to call them the other day to renew my contract but I don’t know what was going on with the phone. It wouldn’t let me in. So I hung up.     Having been a devoted customer of Direct Energy for many years, we were recently forced to find another service provider due to a lack of customer concern or appreciation from Direct Energy's customer service and management teams. The problem was that we inadvertently missed our renewal date in December 2018 and didn't notice the increase in our billing until February 2019 due to being on autopay. Our account was debited for $153 January which was fine, but then, our February bill was $560. What? How could this be and we live in a 1-bedroom apt?

    When we called Direct Energy to explain our grievance, they seemed unconcerned and refused to retroactively adjust the charges to a fixed rate instead of the variable. Therefore, we had no other option but to cancel our service with them. In retaliation, or so it felt, we immediately received another bill totaling $675. We will settle our debt, but are not comfortable agreeing to pay what we don't understand. How do we dispute the cost and such unfair practice? HELP PLEASE!

    I had a bad experience with Direct Energy last fall. My renters trashed my house out and moved, owing a bunch of bills. They left without giving me an address or anything. We were over there restoring the house and we had to have energy. When I was trying to get Direct Energy to put the energy on the rental house, I had a hard time. I called Direct Energy and they wanted me to assume that balance. They never came right out and said it, but I had a bunch of trouble with them. I don’t pay my renter’s utilities ever. Also, I had no bad debts and I pay my bills. I was very unhappy with them.

    Finally, we had to threaten Direct Energy to take that on. My husband had to get on the phone and they turned it on in my name. He also said that it was very difficult to try to deal with them. I’d do business with Direct Energy again if they give me a good deal. What happened was just a bad situation where they were gonna try to force me into something that I wasn’t responsible for. They were in a bind trying to collect from the renters and I don’t even know where they were.

    We issue renewal notices 30-60 days prior to the current contract expiry date. Existing customer renewal rates may be reviewed in your online portal or by speaking with an agent. Please keep in mind, as with many companies, rates are subject to change each renewal period based on the market. There are incentives offered with certain renewal rate plans. If a renewal has not been submitted by the contract expiration date, the service is automatically placed on the month to month variable rate.

    Some guy come knocked on the door, offered me five cents a kilowatt and free weekends, so I changed. However, I noticed that Direct Energy's service costs a whole lot more. They said they couldn't do the free weekends until I got a stationary meter put in. They got all that done, but I still don't have the free weekends or anything except 12 cents a kilowatt hour. I communicated with their customer service reps but it ain't done good. They told me that they would check into it, but I ain't received the first call.

    I went online and started looking for our electricity company. I've looked almost every year to see what was the difference in prices. Direct Energy had a really good price on their kilowatts, so I went with them. We've been with them for a couple of years. And then last year, they called and said that instead of going up in price, they would go down so I signed up again for a couple of years with them.

    Our lines are underground and we're in a fairly new edition so we hardly have any outages at all. The only hesitation was that Direct Energy owns several companies and they had let someone use my Social Security Number and opened up electric at their homes in the Houston area and there were three of them. Since those people didn't pay, they came after me for collections. I had a very bad taste in my mouth about them because I thought that if they are gonna let anybody use my Social Security number and not check them out, that was stupid. I had to do a police report, call the Credit Bureaus, and put a fraud alert on the Credit Bureaus. It was a mess.

    I was really mad at Direct Energy but I didn't wanna go with them because of that, so I thought that I'm gonna check them out and see what they would do with me. Sure enough, they asked for all these information and I was very happy, so I hope they continue to do that. I had to send them proof that I lived here, including my Medicare card to prove that's who I am because they had so many frauds going on. It was crazy. But so far, so good. Direct Energy changed their procedures on allowing people to open up an account.

    The people I spoke to at Direct Energy were really nice. However, I use the mobile app and their website is crappy. It is hard to navigate through it and it’s not clear. They don’t have specific sections for what one wanna look at. For instance, I tried to check what my bill was and I can’t even remember how I even figured that out. In addition, they just show one charge for the Texas-New Mexico charges but I would like to have a more itemized list of what are they charging. I would like to look into that because $52 worth of utility charges is a lot of money just to round up generally.
