I am a 4 year customer of Vivint Solar. Their lease plan is great and it has saved my family quite a bit of money on our energy bill. I took advantage of the removal and re-install of my panels to put a new roof on. Everything went smooth until they re-installed the panels. I have a brand new $12,000.00 dollar white roof and the installers drilled anchor holes through it for their safety lines without asking me if that was ok. They also outlined the four area where the panels were being place with RED construction crayon. Needless to say red crayon on a white roof stands out like a sore thumb.

I spoke to customer service and they sent a tech out to check it out and explain the anchor holes. He mentioned that he used to install for Vivint and he would have given the customer an option of holes or he could tie off on the opposite side of the house. He also reported the crayon damage. I received a call from Vivint and they said the crayon would wash off over time?? I told them that it would not and they said they would send someone out to clean it off. Two trucks of men showed up a week later and climbed on my roof and used my hose to try to clean it off. It did not work.

Vivint never called me back. I have made at least 5 phone calls and 5 emails to customer service and they have never called back. All it get is an email stating "We apologize for the delay and appreciate your patience. Due to our current, high service volumes, we have been unable to reach out to you." etc. This is the worst customer service I have ever dealt with. One star rating is because I could not choose no stars.

This company said our electric bill would be lower in the summer if we put in solar. We did, with the understanding we could have more solar panels if our electric bill was high. Our bill is high and now they are saying they will not put in more panels. Basically they lied to make a sale. Customer service is unprofessional and rude. I would not use this company again.

I am a new customer in June of 2019. On the go live date the system was not working due to the inverter not working. The inverter had to be replaced. The system worked form June 30 thru July 29th and then stopped communicating the Solar production. The 1st tech was unable to find the issue, a 2nd tech identified the issue of a part that communicates the Solar production needs to be replaced. Was told the part had to be ordered and would take 7 to 10 days. It's been 2 weeks and have not heard anything. Disappointed that a newly installed system has had 2 part failures and that it takes this long to get it fixed. It's been since July 30th since the system has communicated the Solar production.

Our power bills are very expensive here. My niece and nephew had Vivint installed in their house, and we also decided to sign up with them. We started the process in December, then the system was installed in May and was activated in June. Our salesman, Fred, really made everything quite simple and we didn’t have to do much. He would give us a heads-up on people coming to do things and we only had to open up one time for them to go up inside the house in the attic. After that, it was just notifying us that they were coming and that was on the outside. So it was really painless and very professionally prosecuted. I’m very satisfied with Vivint Solar and I’m glad I signed up with them. I look forward to a good relationship here.

I looked into solar in the past and and the Vivint Solar rep let me know that there was a lot from Massachusetts, that there was a lot of grant money and that would actually be no cost to me to install the unit. I have electric heat and I had exorbitant amount of electric bills so I needed some way to relieve that burden, and I thought going solar made a lot of sense. However, there were some kind of permit things that took a long time and a lot of things were out of Vivint’s hands. The installation took longer than I expected, but the system is so new that I’m trying to understand it. I had other companies come and they looked at it and same thing, “It’s a good system. They did a good job,” so, I’m pleased with that.

I use a lot more electricity in the winter and less in the summer. National Grid took the medium and I would pay an x amount every month and, by right, I would be at zero balance by the end of the year. We finally got the system up and going so I paid off the balance of what I owed to National Grid, and they were sending me monthly bills but they were showing that I have a surplus. So that’s a positive. But I’m not even receiving the automatic drafting, and taking out of my checking account, some charges, and I’m trying to find out what those charges are for. I’m trying to find out the payment, cost, savings and what’s really going on with them. But I’m pleased with engineering and the installation.

Vivint Solar's guy came to my door and he was very trustworthy and believable. I'm quick to close the door on people, especially if they come and I don't know about it, but there was something about him that made me take a strategic pause and listen to him. And the straw that broke the camel's back was the timeframes that you could use solar energy between four and nine. I work full-time and the only time I can do anything is when I get home, which is 4 or 5 o'clock and that is when they're on their peak hour. If I'm gonna do laundry, I wanna do laundry at that time and not have to worry about a jacked up electric bill. So I was getting kind of tired about SDG&E and I was always tier four or higher. Vivint's system has brought us down to tier one prices, so from my perspective, I can't complain.

After I reviewed the program, they went ahead and did a credit check to make sure that I was credit worthy, then they went back and proceeded with the rest of the steps. It was a lengthy and wasn't a quick turnaround process, by any way, shape, or form. I had to go through somebody coming out looking at my roof and determining the plan, the schematic of the panels, and how many panels we needed. And based on energy consumption, I needed more than the average because I use heat compressors for a business that I do, so that could consume a lot of electricity.

So, they went ahead and showed me what it would look like on the roof from a satellite picture. From there, I had to wait for the permit from the city, then they came out and installed the panels. They did everything in a day. They had the box set up outside and it was a matter of flipping a switch and we were on solar. Once I got the approval from the city and from SDG&E that I could come off the grid, I was able to enjoy my solar power. The whole process took about three to four months to complete.

I've seen the reviews after-the-fact, and I don't always go with them a lot of times because it could be a geographical issue that creates a negative review on a company. So the service is only as good as the people that work in it in that area. And from my perspective, I had a lot of support. The only thing I didn't like was that even after I announced myself as the husband, they didn't wanna speak with me. They wanted to speak to my wife, Judith. But Judith and I both go in on anything. It just so happened that her credit check was used.

Other than that, I was told from people at work that Baker was a better place and I should've done Baker. They don't know Vivint, but I was pleased. Even though I hear now Vivint has an issue with something and that their profits for the quarter weren't as high. I saw that advertised a month or two ago even though they increased in their insulation. But from a consumer standpoint, they gave me an easy transition and a good product. Being a layman and not getting into the details with everything, my wife and I found that it was a pretty painless transition. Our experience has been great and the only thing that is sticky is how they bill and knowing when the bill's coming. Still, it's been really transparent.

I had solar energy at my previous home and when I moved into my current house, a very personable young man from Vivint Solar stopped by to see if I was interested. He was such a nice guy. Considering where I live, plus my prior experience, I signed up with them. However, the process took much longer than I thought it should’ve. Part of that could’ve been where I live and the HOA, so I am not really disappointed in the other factors, except for the length of time.

Enrolling with Vivint Solar was all very easy. I just signed and they literally came the day that I signed up for the installation. They did it in a couple of hours and after they installed it, it took a while. But they were great. I've paid one bill from them for like 13 bucks and then I don’t think I've gotten anything since.

I have read about solar and heard about it from other people that it saves a lot of money on electricity. After I had Vivint Solar, I still got some quite heavy bills from General Electric and because it didn’t seem to work, they decided I needed more panels. That has been about two months that it worked out, so I have no idea if it is helping or not and they haven’t charged me for it because this was a free trial. The enrollment process seemed to be easy. I had a lot of help from people that helped me along with it. I recommend Vivint Solar to friends.

I leased Vivint Solar panels several years ago. The first thing I noticed is the poor customer service, it takes too long for someone to get back to you if they do. Second, I noticed that my true up with PG&E seemed high, over $1000! When I contacted Vivint about they they said they would review it for me. They said I may need more panels and would look into designing that. When I didn't hear back from them I called and they told me there was no more room to add more panels. Why didn't they call me to tell me that. Then, they just contacted me recently to see how my system was performing. I told them I was not happy and that my true up charges seemed excessive. Again they said they would review things. I have not heard back from them. DO NOT EVER GO WITH VIVINT SOLAR!!!! WORST COMPANY EVER!!!!

A friend of ours who belongs to our yacht club told us about solar. His son worked at Vivint Solar and we contacted him and made the decision to move in that direction. We started with Vivint just fine, but we recently had a problem. The equipment that belongs to Vivint reset itself at standby mode. So, we were billed by PG&E instead of by solar. That occurred for seven weeks or so and it took Vivint four weeks to be able to find out what the problem was. So, Vivint received the credit and we had to pay. I'm not sure how that could be rectified. At this particular time, we are 85% satisfied that we went in this direction. There’s some modification that needs to be made, and we will contact the consumer services department of Vivint Solar to deal with that. But we’re very happy that we made the decision to go solar.

    Reviewed Aug. 20, 2019

Updated on 08/24/2019: First, it took me almost a year to NV energy to approve the installation. The way they installed it. Then after that. It worked fine until August 7th. That was almost 9 months since it's been installed and it went out in the hottest part of the year when I needed it the most. Then it stopped generating power on the hottest time of the year. I called August 9th. Instead of setting up appointment right then. They had to contact the Las Vegas of office. They said they would contact me Monday. Then they said they do not work on weekends. I think this is unacceptable not to work on the weekends. Now I'm paying high electric rates.

Then Monday 12th of August, they did call and set up appointment for the following Monday. Again this is the hottest time of the year when I need my solar. Delete this is still unacceptable. This is one I'm paying for the most electricity use in this hot summer. I thought they would schedule somebody right away before I had to leave to China. I had to leave for China Thursday. Then I would be back the day they wanted to come out on Monday the 19th of August. I was coming back Monday from China night time. So I told him to come out Tuesday the 20th of August.

They came out and put a new inverter on. I looked on their site to see if it was working. I showed no energy being generated by the solar. I called them up. They said it's gonna take a couple days to put the new inverter number in the computer so it shows this. I thought I had no way of checking if this thing was even working. Even though they said it was working. So I thought of an idea to go check somewhere else. Because with Vivint I've had so much problems. I always think they're lying to me.

So I wanted to see if the NV energy site showed anything and it did. Which showed it was generating. Because Vivint site still is not showing that my system was working. I went on to the NV energy site every day to see if it was working. I checked Thursday it was still working on the NV energy site. I checked Friday the 23rd on the NV energy site. It showed it was not working again. Not generating solar power. I checked it on Saturday for Friday. You can call the sales Department on Saturdays. But the system support is closed Saturday and Sundays when you need them. This is unacceptable for a company. NV Energy site shows no generation of solar power now. Vivint site shows still no solar generation. Now it is Saturday. I have to wait till Monday to call system support. I got the system so I can save money in the summertime. Vivint equipment Fails a lot.

I will call Monday. I hope they come out right away. But I bet they don't schedule me for a week later again. I think this is unfair to the consumer. I bought a system for $30,000. In a year and a half what money have I save since I've had it installed? Again I would not use this company ever if I had a choice. Installation and service is not good at all at this company. You're willing to talk to your sell equipment on Saturday. They don't even have service on Saturday. It shows you where their priorities lie. Sales comes first over the consumers problem. I hope many people read this and do not buy Vivint.

Original Review: Try again. First my installation took longer than it expected. Then it took over a year to get it turned on Due to them not hooking it up correctly. My solar panel went out, outside. In the first week of August. It was out about 3 days when I caught it. I thought they’re supposed to catch this. I thought the box was supposed to send out a signal to them that something was wrong with my box. I guess it never did send out a signal that my box went bad. I called them on a Thursday When my box went out. Then they said they'll call me Monday to set up an appointment. If this was a better company they would have called me on Friday to set up this appointment. But they did call me on Monday to set up appointment next Monday. I set it up for Tuesday the next day because I would not be in town till Tuesday. I also set up for the maintenance guy to get here Between 8 an 11 o'clock. And he didn't get here till 11:30.

Everybody has things to do. I figure when they give you a window period they better be in that window. I do not hate the people at the company. They have a job. It's the upper management that isn't managing right. Whoever that might be. The person who installed my box. Who is a wonderful person and he knew what he was doing. But me, I would never recommend this company Vivint to anybody and I have.

A young man came around named Michael. He gave me a lot of points on what Vivint Solar was all about and what the percentages were, and if something happened to my roof, that they would take the panels off and they would fix it, and it would cost me $400. He gave me all good points, and I ended up getting 42 panels on my roof on my house, and I got 30 some panels on my garage. But it seemed to take a couple years before they could even get it going. As a matter of fact, I got somebody coming to my house next Monday to change a router.

Normally, the interaction that I have with the customer service team is good. But sometimes, I call and I get people that I have never talked to, and I feel like I’m getting spun around. They put me off to another phone, where I used to call and I would be talking to the one person. They would investigate, and then call me back. Now, they pass me onto somebody else, and that’s what I hate. And then, you get disconnected, and you gotta go through the whole process again. At the time, it seemed like my electric bill was kinda high, and I had a number of friends that had researched and heard good things about solar, so I looked into it as well. The process with Vivint Solar took longer than I thought. I got panels twice. The first time took almost six months. And then, the second time, I called in, and I felt like my Edison bill was too high, so I didn't think I had enough solar panels. So, they did their research and came back. And putting my additional panels took about six months to get processed as well.

During that time, I was paying both Vivint and Edison. It was pretty bad. I was really getting frustrated. I was paying way, way too much. I had to pay Edison about $1000 at the end of the year. And that didn't happen in the very beginning. Those were the most frustrating parts of working with Vivint. But I think it might have been more on Edison’s side.

Vivint's customer service team was great. They were helping me along. It also took a while to get the salesperson when I did it this second time. The sales person indicated I would get a $500 fee for doing it. But that was the most frustrating part because that took forever to get approved, and it was very disappointing. And then you had to wait for the money. But they couldn't reach the sales person to approve it. It was bad. But the installation went well. The people that came out put in a new breaker panel. They were very clean, and they matched my stucco. So, I was very pleased with the actual work that was done. Vivint has been very responsive when I would call in on different things. I’ve been pretty pleased with Vivint, and I referred people to them. It’s been good for me. It’s all worked out. I noticed a big difference in my bill this first month. I'm very satisfied that I went solar.

Even though the installation went really well, it took almost a full year before our electrical supplier finally signed off. And the panels started working a couple of months ago. Vivint Solar approached me about putting panels on my roof. I went with them because they maintain ownership of the panel. I don’t plan to live at that house very many years. So, I didn’t wanna sign a lease, and pay for panels when I wasn’t gonna be there. The Vivint rep that came to my home was very professional and very knowledgeable.

But they finally got things taken care of.

I’ve been trying to get a past due amount with Vivint Solar caught up. It started with getting a phone call saying that I’ve been overpaid and there were some days that I was underbilled. And in the end, I received a line of credit, and then didn’t have to pay anything. I told them to keep it on the books and they would just deduct every month. But when I got my first bill, it was around $700, and I had a little bit of credit left over, which dropped it down to around $600.

I talked to another lady named Bernice. We worked on a payment plan so that I could get caught back up for the four months that I underpaid. I’ve been working on that to get it caught back up, but then Bernice sent it in for another review to see what they could do. And they came back and said that I owe them $600, and the only thing that they could do was credit me $200.

I called back again and told Vivint that it was not fair. I’ve never had solar before and Vivint has always been good to me. I had them set up on AutoPay so that I wouldn’t ever be late for a bill. And I’ve still been battling a $600 bill. It went to the point where I ended up installing 10 more panels on my home to overcompensate the usage that I was putting out. And it’s just been a tiring battle.

I was trying to continue making payments when I still have them. But then, I skipped out on one of my payments due to my father dying in July. And I made a payment yesterday for a May bill, but I still have to pay for June and July, and August will be due by the end of this month. It’s been very frustrating because if I knew that there was anything wrong with my panels, I would have called them sooner. And now, I’m struggling paying the bill that I don’t think I should be responsible for because it’s something that was not in my control.

I never had a problem with Vivint until I got the line of credit on January of this year. Normally, I’d pay in the range of $171. There was one bill for $180, but I get that since I’ve been running my air conditioning nonstop. But aside from that, Vivint Solar is great. All of the reps seem very helpful, and they want to help. They don’t want to try to stiff me the $600 bill. And sometimes it’s really frustrating because there has been a few that are trying to explain it to me, but I tell them that can’t see what they're seeing.

I really wish that all the departments that I have talked to could all see everybody else’s screen so that you’re not getting like six different stories. Because you call billing department and billing department can only see one screen, and they tell me one story where they would say, "We can see where you were online and then you were not online, and then your solar panels quit working." They see the overcharge and the undercharge. They can also see where there were a few months where my solar panels weren’t running at all. But when I get to another department, they would say that that was not the case at all, and my solar panels have been running this whole time. Another thing that could be done is to get a few more panels put on my house. I wish that the second account could be part of the first account and not having two separate payments.

Some friends told me about solar energy and Vivint Solar was willing to put in the equipment at no cost to me. The enrollment process went fairly quickly. It was just a matter of a bunch of questions and they wanted to know how much our normal utility bills were. When we finally got everything arranged, everything got installed very expeditiously.

I'm fairly satisfied with my decision to go solar. But it took about nine months from when Vivint Solar installed the equipment up to when it finally got inspected and they gave me permission to turn it on. Also, I don't feel I got the benefit of the solar until really quite late. Supposedly, PG&E had to come over and inspect everything but I never saw PG&E coming over to inspect anything. Vivint got the city inspector over here fairly quickly to inspect everything though. But there was a small issue that the city inspector had with making sure that the wires were properly protected from being tripped over if anybody is up on the roof. Vivint got that repaired quickly and the inspector came back over.

I like the idea of being solar. In the long run, I'd better off. One of the biggest concerns I had with solar, in general, was if were they gonna compromise my roof. But there was no problem. I would have known if there was a leak. But Vivint claimed they had some kind of method of doing it so it was pretty bulletproof. They also said my roof was in pretty good shape. If I have to reroof, I would have to call Vivint and pay them $700 to remove the solar panels then put them back on after I get the material roofing material on it. And that is okay. I understand that.

One downside is I think Vivint should have turned it on instead wanting me to do it. They sent me some instructions for that. It worked. But it's not really intuitive, looking at it, whether it's working. I flipped all the right switches and everything is in the right position. But a normal homeowner might not know whether it's working or not unless they call Vivint and ask if they're generating anything. Other than that, the friends that I have have been happy with Vivint.

Some friends of mine had Vivint Solar, and somebody was going around the neighborhood. We had wanted a greener kind of lifestyle and we originally looked at it, and then, for whatever reason, we didn't do it. And then, we decided to get an electric car, and so, we figured that going solar would be the next thing. We called Vivint Solar up and got it hooked up. The representative was very helpful and was texting and communicating a lot. The process itself was very simple. I really didn't have to do a lot, except to look for my last electricity bill, which was very easy.

I'm very satisfied because it's just greener energy, it's clean. The only thing is that I misunderstood how we would use the energy, and the amount of money we would pay every month. So, that was a little bit of a surprise. I called and double-checked with things. I understand it better now. And then, the referral process wasn't exactly very clear. It was a little confusing from the person that I had spoken with.

The bill is now $50 less, which is good. But I was thinking that it was gonna be a little bit more. And then, I didn't understand that we basically get charged for the amount of solar we produce. I thought that when we produce solar, that that would go towards our electricity bill, and then, whatever was left over would be sent to our electricity company and they would get the benefit of extra electricity going into the grid. I didn't think that we were going to be paying anything towards Vivint, or it would be minimal, like it would be under $100. But our last bill was $227. So, I wasn't expecting it to be that high. But if you think about your regular electricity bill during the summertime, it's usually at least 300. I would still recommend Vivint Solar to people and I'm glad we did it for sure.

However, when I did the contract with the gentleman who came over, he told me that I would be storing an average of 1,000 kilowatts per month. But then, my system is only storing about 800 and something. On my PG&E bill, it's building up a number that at the end of the year, I will have to pay. The Vivint system is saving me money but then I might have to pay that money to PG&E which I'm not too happy about. Still, my neighbors pay an outrageous amount for solar and my bill with Vivint has been $141 a month which is not bad for the summertime.

Vivint Solar's process was good until we got installed, and then it went downhill from there. The guy who came out and quoted it knew what he was talking about. Everything that he was saying was good. But when they put the solar on the roof, they said it could be anywhere from 30 to 45 days based on the Edison Company. Everything went on our roof around the end of April and I started getting emails from Vivint frantically telling me that we didn’t sign the documents for the Edison Company. So they waited 45 days and they didn’t know that? But they didn’t send the link. So we couldn’t sign it.

I’m texting my guy, going back and forth. So, there’s some sort of disconnect between what has to get done with, who the salesperson is, and what needs to get done. We’ve flipped the switch finally on the first week of July and I’m still getting another Edison bill. So the technicians were wonderful. They did a nice job on my house, and everything looks good. But the back side where I have to pay is not so good. Now I have a $185 Edison bill and I have to pay for the solar, too.

Vivint keeps saying that it’s gonna cycle again. But Edison is still sending me texts that say my next bill’s gonna be $150. So how many cycles does it take? At some point, Edison is gonna owe me a ton of money. Vivint has a lack of process inside their system. But they have a wonderful app. I can see how much we’re producing. We’re producing a ton, but I don’t know the difference yet because I’m still getting an Edison bill. But that was supposed to switch, and I get the one-month gap, but it's been two months and that's kind of a little too much.

I’ve sent Vivint emails, but I can’t get anyone to reply to me because their accounting department is not taking care of it. I have solar on my roof and I’m told it’s gonna be 45 days. But at the 45th day, they need me to sign documents. If Edison has these forms for us to sign, it should’ve been signed when we signed the contract. It's a $20,000 solar and Vivint forgets this one little part to turn it on. It left this sour taste in our mouths because everything was working great. We were excited, and we really liked the guy who came out, but then we can’t get anyone inside their building to make it right.

The salesperson from Vivint Solar was very nice and he was professional. It just so happened that there had been some other people coming through the neighborhood, and they didn’t have any kind of real identification. But this guy had on a t-shirt that said Vivint. He was knowledgeable and he helped explain my utility bill in a way that I hadn’t looked at it. So, he was a good guy. This is a new house and it was built with the solar panels in it but at the end of the year, I was paying almost $1,000 to Southern California Edison, and it came out as a bulk out of my checking account. I wasn’t actively looking for some relief to that, but when the guy came by and we started talking, I realized that that might be a solution to part of the problem. It’s not that it’s so much cheaper than what I’m paying to Southern California Edison, but I’m paying it on a monthly basis. It’s better for the environment, and I don’t have that $6,000 coming out of my check.

The salesman did everything during the enrollment process. He was my contact with Vivint. I would get different things in the mail, papers to sign via email, which was good. I did not have any difficulties going through this process. So far, Vivint Solar has been great and I would recommend them. I talked to them and I just explained my experience with them, and that so far, it has been very good.

Back in 2017, a Vivint sales rep came to my home and convinced me to get solar panels. I made it clear to him that I do not want to have the panels installed on my front roof. And again when he showed me the sketch of the panels placement, I told him that I do not want them placed in the front of my roof. But on the installation day, I noticed that the technicians were installing brackets on my front roof. I stopped the installation and quickly called Jeff my Vivint sales rep. He assured me that he was on it and was making calls.

After two hours, he called to say that I should allow the technicians to complete the installation since it was about to rain. He promised that the manager had already approved for the panels to be moved in about two weeks. He even sent me the new drawing for the placement. It took more than 8 months and over a dozen phone calls for the panels to be moved. Now, I have been fighting and calling Vivint to remove the brackets and pipes they left on my roof and repair my roof and they are giving me the run around.

Each time I call Vivint, I am on hold for 40 to 50 minutes before someone will come to the phone. After dozens of calls, I was given an appointment for the repairs. On the day of the appointment, Vivint called me from a local number but quickly hung up before I can pick up the phone. After a few minutes I got a text message telling me that the appointment had been cancelled. Remember I waited three months for this appointment.

After several calls, I was scheduled for another appointment which was again canceled on the day of the appointment. Now I have an appointment for end of August and only God knows what will happen then. Each time they cancel, the Vivint staff will tell me that their roofer for my area fell off the roof and is not back to work yet. I asked him if they had only one roofer? And what will happen if that roofer never returned to work and he had no answer for me. I also asked to speak with a supervisor but that request was declined. Rather, he asked me to go to their management website to write my complaint. I am very frustrated with the whole issue. My roof was less than two years old when these panels were installed. My next step will be to seek legal counsel against Vivint. I will never recommend Vivint to anyone.

My son-in-law had solar energy services through another company and he referred us to Grant. He came out and gave us an estimate but he told us that he has changed companies and is working for Vivint Solar. So, we bought into them. He was very professional and he was able to answer every single question we had. He did a very good job. We started earlier in the year and it was June when the solar panels started working. We’ve very satisfied with our decision to go solar and we’re just starting to see some energy savings now on our bill, so we look forward to seeing more. We’re still paying but I could imagine by the end of the year, we’ll probably be doing pretty well. Vivint Solar was a very good company to work with and their reps were very friendly and right on top of everything.

One of my neighbors had solar installed and I got to meet a representative from Vivint through that. I signed up with them then they did their part of the work over here. The installation took several visits and after that, they were getting messages that the system was not working properly. So, a couple of times, we had technicians come over and take care of that. When they were gonna come over, they would always call me and I would make sure that I was at home when they came. They didn't need to come inside the house, but still, I wanted to be here. They were also very polite and not only very conscious about what they were doing, but they were very nice as well. If I had some questions, they would answer. Plus, they explained to me what it was that I needed to know, like when the city had to come and inspect. And everything was completely accepted as okay.

I like going solar and my bill with Southern California Edison has come down quite a bit. So I'm happy about that, too. Also, having the solar thing doesn't make much difference because it's on my roof on the back side of my house and you can't even see it from the street. And everything seems to be functioning okay. But I've told the technicians that I don't touch any of the stuff that's on my house down below because I'm afraid. It says, "Warning, warning," and I don't turn it off. And if there's anything wrong, Vivint seems to get it online. This solar thing is dangerous stuff, just like electricity is dangerous. But I'm glad I have it and I don't think I will regret getting it. I'm truly satisfied with my system.

Vivint online representatives read my review and reached out to me and wanted to help resolve my issue. I’m so impressed to have received a call from Aaron ** right away. He is an excellent representative for Vivint Solar. He contacted me, listened to me and addressed all my concerns. Within a day my issue was resolved and they exceeded my expectations!! I’m so grateful that my issue was resolved so quickly.

    Original Review: July 23, 2019

Vivint solar just billed my elderly parents with a 900+ bill. I spent 2 days trying to get a resolution for this problem. They don’t seem to want to hear that their systems and processes created this customer billing problem. Basically, a man came to our house back in November because the system wasn’t picking up the data. It happened to be accidentally unplugged. When I asked the man who came out, how were we being billed correctly.. He said to contact the customer service and they should be able to check the data and it should be available.

I called and was told to submit my PGE bills. I never heard back so I sent a follow up email. Still no response. I spoke to a team lead named Kariem. He told me someone did call me. But I never received a call or a voice mesaage. Funny, all of the sudden the same day after I received an email saying they called me to discuss my inquiry. I never received closure on my request for them to check my data. I then noticed that I received a credit on the account for $683.00. I thought there could be a problem and that this was incorrect. So I contacted their billing department and spoke to a Lisa. She assured me that this was not an error and it was a credit because I had been over billed. I took a picture of my phone to show I had called in and I documented a quick note indicating our discussion.

When I spoke with the team lead Kariem I asked him to pull the recording. He said he did he the conversation and it’s true what I was telling him, but that it’s the Agent's fault, she didn’t know what she was doing. Which tells me they have system billing issue ps and training issues. I didn’t have a problem paying if I was given an incorrect credit but after I looked at all the numbers, I found that their math didn’t make sense. Without telling me why the bill was so inaccurate. I learned just today that Kariem said I was being billed because their system didn’t bill us correctly going back to 2017 almost 2 years later!! This is unethical business practices, I have started to research and found an incredible amount of Better Business Bureau complaints. I read quite a few of them and all same response. "We are reaching out....” blah blah.

I intend to file as many complaints as possible, especially the Federal Trade Commissions and government agencies as possible. The amount in dispute is about $657.00 because of their faulty systems. I am concerned this is happening to other customers. It leads me to believe their systems for billing are cheating other customers. I will also be hiring a lawyer to contact their legal dept to get this issue resolved. I hope other customers reconsider before they do business with Vivint. In February

Since I bought my house, the electric portion of my gas and electric bills were up really high. I wanted to go to solar and I signed up with Vivint. The two guys that I talked to who sold me the solar were very professional and they knew what they were doing. They recommended stuff and I took their advice. Then I asked them for some other stuff such as having everything match my roof because I looked at my neighbor’s house and you could see bare metal. In fact, one of the hiccups was that they didn’t paint the conduit up on top but that was just a miscommunication between the salespeople, what I requested, and what they put on the roof. It took a while but they came back and fixed it.

Then there were some brackets that were overhanging so you could see them and they didn’t look too uniform. It looked like one was longer than the other. They had to come back and fix that, too, where it looked all uniform after that. So in the beginning, things were kinda rough. But after that, things have been great. They went out of their way once they heard my complaints and they made adjustments quickly. They started putting up the panels by the end of March and they got that activated sometime in May. But they were telling me that I did a 30% tax break on my solar and I haven’t received paperwork on it. Other than that, Vivint's reps did a good job and so far, I’ve been very satisfied with my decision to go solar.

A Vivint Solar salesman came up to the door and they were the only solar company I’ve ever seen. When he came in, he was explaining it to me and it seemed like a good idea at the time, so I signed up. Everybody was getting solar panels, so I did, too. Their workmen were very polite and great. They always came up to the door and said they were gonna be up on the roof and that if we hear any noises, it was them. Nobody was breaking in. And they would knock on the door and tell me that they were leaving. They also said that if we hear any noises on the roof, that’s when I should call the police. Anybody should be able to hire those guys.

But I thought that with the package, I’d get a battery backup and have everything else, but they basically throw the solar on and that’s what you get. If I had a chance, I would get all the solar panels off. I feel a little cheated that when you hear about solar panels, you hear when the electricity goes out, you’ll have a backup and you’ll have this and this, but I got nothing but the panels. Then they were giving me a bill and one part cost $5. When I called and asked what it was for, they told me that it was a service fee. But they put the panels up and they were making money off of it, then on top of everything they were taking $5 a month from someone who’s handicapped, disabled, has cancer, has out of control diabetes, and on Medicare. Usually, when it says $5 service fee, it’s because you’re being penalized for something. But they just charged an extra 5 bucks.

I told them that they were supposed to be making their customers happy and they were not supposed to nickel-and-dime them. I agreed for the service and I didn’t want to pay $5 extra. They said they'd talk to the supervisor and get back to me but that was three weeks ago. They still haven't called back. Aside from that, when I started to add up everything, I saw a $20 difference in my last bill from when I didn't have solar. But I thought I was gonna have these savings because I got the panels up and they did all the work.

My bill was $450 before and I’m glad I went solar. I’m so glad it worked out and I'm not gonna take it off. But I was not happy with Vivint Solar's service. First of all, nobody told me it was gonna take eight months from the beginning to the end to put it on. There was one rep who was the nicest person in the world. He did everything very quickly, like as far as the contract, and they also put the solar panels so quickly. But from the time they put the solar panels to when they started working, it was a nightmare. Second of all, there were big issues because the team was not communicating. I had to communicate between them. They sent us wrong plans for the solar panels. They did not send an A to Z form and I couldn’t talk to anybody. After that, I read the reviews and it was really not pretty. I was like, “Oh my God. What have I done?” Now, I have a lease for 20 years.

Another thing is that nobody told me I will pay a fee for what I produce. The first month was $70 but now we got a bill of $181. I called about the bill and the guy was so rude to me. He was like, “Oh, you didn’t know about it?” I thought it was a flat rate fee. But now I got a $181 bill. I was told I was paying for what I produce and I don't understand that. After the almost-a-year of trouble that I got, I'm paying just a little less money for my electric. It doesn’t make sense. A rep even said, “So what’d you want? You want me to send you application to disregard your contract?” That was rude. But there was one rep who was really helpful. She would call me back and deal with the companies. I have a lot of neighbors who want to do solar but I don’t wanna recommend Vivint Solar because I’m scared they’re gonna be mad at me.

We recently closed on our house that had a PPA with Vivint. We are appalled at how Vivint has handled this transfer. We had an agreement with the Sellers that they would pre-pay the electric for the remainder of the PPA. During our conversations with Vivint, we were told to sign certain transfer agreements, which were signed by us and the Sellers. We were told to notify Vivint after the home closed. At closing, the title agency issued a check for the prepayment and mailed it to the address that we were given by your company. The day after closing, we notified Vivint that the home closed, as instructed by your company, and were told that the wrong contract was signed since this was for prepayment. It's been almost two months and we have not resolved this issue. The panels have not been transferred.

Your company sent us a new contract, which we noticed was incorrect and informed you. Nothing has been sent since then and it's been month. This has not been corrected. It has been crickets after we follow up weekly. We were told they then filed a claim against the Sellers estate for the entire cost of the panels. We are trying to transfer these panels and are getting nowhere with your company. Your company also has not cashed the check that was mailed in the beginning of June. Why do you not want the money? We have done everything your company instructed us to do and they are still not transferred! At this point, I think this is a company tactic and it's entirely intentional. I am appalled and would never recommend your company.

Still waiting for inspections to be scheduled according to web portal. Recent email to customer service bounced as undelivered due to recipient server issues . Sales manager doesn't respond to emails as well. Installers put holes in screen windows (4+ months to issue check for that damage) and I am still finding fasteners in my yard on a weekly basis. Whatever you do, do NOT choose Vivint for your solar power. Customer service is terrible, especially once your system is installed. I installed my first system back in 2014 after a year in my 2000 sq ft home. The system had 36 panels and still only produced enough electricity to leave me $1,800+ short come time for my PG&E "True-Up". This happened for THREE YEARS, even after bringing it to their attention. After four years I finally got a check for $1,300 to "make me whole" (I guess math isn't their strong suit - like customer service - either; $1800 x 3 does not equal $1300).

Shame on me for thinking I just didn't install enough panels and listening to their offer for an expanded system (another 20 panels). After initiating this in May 2018, they were promptly installed. Unfortunately, they didn't turn the damn thing on until March 2019, nearly a full year later, even after I had contacted them starting 60 days after install. An absolute joke that was. Not only that, it's not like they integrated the installs. They're quite literally two separate systems and accounts. What fun that is.

But there's MORE! In July 2019 I received an invoice showing I owed $0 which is odd because if there's anything we don't have a shortage of in Kern County in the summer, it's the sun. Well, sure enough, I looked at my billing and it showed zero production for one account as of 07/14/2019. As I scrolled back through that account's production, it had not been producing SINCE June 11, 2019, over a month later. Curious me looked at my other account and found that it was producing (at least, it said it was), but from May 2 through July 8, 2019, it also had zero production. What gives?

It takes forever to get a tech out to have your concerns addressed. The system is installed poorly (on top of all the extra hardware, screws, and wire left everywhere up on the roof, in the gutters, on the ground, in my driveway, etc., the anchors to which the system is attached to my roof are now coming undone and the entire system is sliding). There is no care given for the color of your roof tiles and your system's hardware (I have a dark grey cement roof tile and for some reason, they thought light tan-colored, 12" x 12" tile replacements/system anchor covers were a good choice). And again, customer service absolutely sucks. Don't fall for the trap that is Vivint Solar. You will regret it. I know I do. Find a better option - there are plenty out there.

Going solar is the worst mistake I have ever made. The Vivint guy who came to my door made lots of quotes that I found out about a month down the road to be false claims. He said I would only be charged for the energy that I used, but found out it’s the energy that I’ve produced. I told him I make just enough money to pay my bills and buy a little bit of food. And even if I only save about 40 bucks a month, every little bit helps. Now, I’m paying over $100 more a month. He said that’s okay because down the road I would save. But I don’t have the money. I’m using my food money right now to pay my solar bill.

And then, they’ve made a mistake. At first, I thought I had automatic payment, but I didn't. My bill for the first three weeks was $106, then when the second bill came along, they said I owe $485. After about a couple of hours, 45 minutes of which I was waiting on hold, their rep put me in touch with someone else, then I waited for another 45 minutes. They said the bill was for April and May. Still, that’s $380. My bill was way more than what I was paying the electric company. I asked the rep how much energy I used because we didn't have that information, and she told me that the refrigerator uses more energy during the summer.

I got put in touch with another customer service rep and I explained everything to her. I calculated myself the amount of energy that I produced times the 18 cents per kilowatt hour, and it came out about $102 less than what they were trying to charge me for it. So finally, the lady got her supervisor, and then I was told that the best they could do is take $100 off my bill.

So, I called the billing department and said that I would like to pay my bill. It was a couple of dollars and I just wanna get it paid. I always pay my bills on time, so I didn't want any problems or worry about it. But then the rep said they didn't get the order yet to change my bill. I called back customer service and was told that it usually takes a few days to go through.

I called back a couple of days later, then a week later, then two weeks later, and talked to people off and on. Finally, I got this guy on the email and I explained it to him. I was really getting irate. He said he couldn’t blame me for my frustration, that he saw what I meant, and that he would issue a $100 credit. I emailed him back and stated that I was really surprised that they didn't offer me any kind of compensation for my trouble. I went back and forth with them on four or five emails and spent six hours total. At that time, it was three and a half hours on the phone in a couple of weeks.

I called billing department, and the rep said that the credit takes a while. I told her that I don’t like being late with my bills, and considering my excellent credit, I don’t want it to show that I’ve been late with my payment. Also, I've been getting calls from them asking when am I gonna pay my bill. So I told the billing department I would send the exact amount that I owe and that I don’t want any more hassles and anybody emailing or calling me. And I did send them the amount I owed.

But then, I turned around, and I got an email saying my bill was past due. And they added the $100 to my bill for June. So, I emailed the guy again, and he said I was right and he would take care of it. But I don’t trust them. I would never give them my credit card information because they make way too many mistakes. I’m not even happy now that I got it. I was misrepresented. So, I just sent my check for June about two days.

Also, when the sales guy had me sign the paper, he said it wasn’t really a contract. I was just agreeing that I would keep the system for 20 years, which I figured is fine. I would probably be dead by then, anyway. And then it was funny, because when all this billing stuff was going on around 20 days after the installation, I was trying to see what I missed as far as they were saying I paid for protection, this and that. The paper that I had signed said I had protection on stuff, which I don’t know the difference. And then I found out that there were actually two different pages that I signed. One was saying I would keep it for 20 years and one was just something not really big. And then for some reason, I started to scroll down and there were about nine more pages on that contract.

The guy just showed me the page I was signing. I was convinced it wasn’t a contract and they weren’t gonna put a lien on the house like other solar companies do. He also said that if my roof should leak any time in the next 20 years, they would come out and fix it for free, which I thought was cool. But then after reading that contract, it said that if I needed any repairs done on the roof, I should call them 30 days in advance and they would send somebody out to take the panels off for me so I could have the roof fixed. And from investigating, I found out that they actually charge the customer. I’ve also heard other horror stories about how when the panels go out, that the customer doesn’t even realize they went out and they're still being charged the same amount. Vivint lied about everything.

Ever since I started this, trying to get the bills straightened out, they kept coming up with these wrong calculations. At one point, they told me I only used 585 kilowatts for April, and the graph that they have showed that I used 713. Where’s all that extra money? But I went ahead and paid the 713 because I knew they made a mistake when they said I used that. This experience makes me sick to my stomach. I had problems with my heart, which had not bothered me in a few years, but now I’ve been having heart palpitations. My blood pressure has been up and I’ve had pains in my chest. I have been depressed. I’ve been feeling awful for the last two months now.

I decided to try solar after a Vivint rep explained how the system would work, as well as the payment, benefits and disadvantages of it. He was honest and I felt very comfortable with solar. The enrollment process was easy, however, I was getting pretty negative about the whole thing at first. I kept getting big bills from SMUD, because they said I wasn’t having enough output from here.

So when I was getting $500 a year payment to pay them, it started to get ridiculous. I've gone over a $1,000, and thought that that wasn't right. I've heard many people say that when you have solar to pay for it outright, and you don’t get a bill. I told Vivint I was getting the high bills from SMUD, so they sent out another guy and decided to put some more panels up. They also offered to pay that $500-and-some, which was the last bill that SMUD sent me. I gave Vivint the bill, but I still haven’t received the check. So right now, I have a negative attitude. But I understand that what happened was not Vivint's fault, and I was in sympathy with them. In fact, they did everything that they’re supposed to have done. It was up to SMUD to follow through, and they were taking their sweet dear time.

I heard about Vivint as I was reading about solar and the best companies that are available, and I had seen the trucks too. But it was Darrol, the rep, who really brought it to my attention and made me take action. Darrol and the technical guy that came with him described the program in great detail. Everything that they told me verbally was also written out so that it matched the language. So far I‘m satisfied with going solar, though I was a little disappointed that it took a little longer because there was a glitch in the system. It was like on standby mode and they had to send somebody out to fix that.

The only time I'm not happy is when I call for service and they come to do something, but their people don’t communicate with me that they have done it. Vivint's technical people need to stay in constant contact with the customer. Also, they should not just assume that we are home while they are. When they come, they should let us know that they’re there. When they get done, they should let us know what they finished and what their findings are. They don’t do that, and I have had to call to find out.

Although the energy consultant was friendly and tried to answer my questions, he failed at tricking me by making numerical mistakes on the price and also just giving his word on promises that the system did not include (e.g., backup batteries) on paper (sales purchase agreement). I kept asking the questionable details various times. Be careful with this company that is fishing for suckers who don't do their math and do a market comparison before signing up for a misleading quote.

I didn’t wanna spend money on solar panels. I don’t wanna make that payment to lease it or buy it. And then I was walking by the neighbor’s condo and he said that this company puts it up for free and you get 30% to 40% off your electric bill, and I thought that was a good deal. I'm satisfied with my decision. The enrollment part was easy. I called up and got this really good customer service person, Brooks. He walked me through the program and answered all my questions.

I'm a type of person who always ask questions, and he walked me through the plan, told me what I'm gonna do, what I'm gonna get, and how it's gonna be broken down, and the billing. He was real patient with me. He told me the incentives. Everything was good. But some of their communication, like to try to reach somebody, that’s not that easy. Like I had a billing question and I contacted the billing department, and it took a long time to finally reach them.

I was impressed with the presentation of Vivint Solar and what they offered when they offered it. They showed up when they said they would and the work seems to have been done. I've got problems with the system, like WiFi communication problem but I don't think it's irremediable. I also think the problem partly has to do with the quality of the WiFi system I have. But also, I'm sending them emails and talking with them about things that are not going quite right. But I haven't gotten any feedback.

If I were to give them a piece of advice, it would be that when they do get a complaint, they should follow up with the customer, at least let them know what's going on. But I don't get that communication. And I do think that if you call them by phone or send them an email, they don't necessarily coordinate real well between the two methods of communication. I don't think if they just don't incorporate them into one database or what they're doing, but it seems like the left hand, right hand problem exists.

Everything about installation and so on went reasonably well. But they've not completed the installation in the sense that there's still tiles from our roof, still waiting reinstalling. But when the system worked, it was working fine. Some problem like that of the quality of my WiFi system, has been addressed, and it's been upgraded. But I need somebody to tell me what to do to make it work. I'm not very dissatisfied. But I need to get the issues addressed. I am assuming that soon, I'm gonna have somebody here to fix this or tell me what to do.

I love Vivint Solar. I knew Vivint was a security company but I didn’t know about the solar part. I know the local rep that had joined Vivint Solar and was repping. I had looked into solar prior, but decided not to do anything. Then I sat with her and she explained a little bit more. It made more sense at this time, and I just moved forward. The rep was brand new. I did allow her some wiggle room because she didn’t know everything. We did things and, no, that was wrong and we had to redo it. Vivint Solar tries really hard to train their representatives to understand. But I think every situation is different and the things that I learned with the rep, she’s incorporated those things into her new questions and her new understanding of how they proceed. I think she’s gotten a lot better understanding of how long things take and the next step, and when I get copied in and when I don’t. But it was relatively easy. Mostly everything is electronic and DocuSign. It just takes forever here.

The system has only been on since April and going solar was the right thing to do even if I didn’t save anything. When I read the contract the first time, it didn’t stick in my mind that it was based on production, not use. So, I was a little confused for the first couple of months until I realized that it’s production. I called the company and they explained. They’ll do a true-up at the end of the year with how much I’ve produced versus how much I’ve used NV Energy.

I could not log into my account for some reason. So I called and spoke with someone on the phone and come to find out my system had not been reporting usage for over a month. Ok, no problem. Send someone out and let's get it fixed. Well after about 5 visits to my house and countless calls to customer service just to get an appointment, not to mention that every time I have an appointment I have to be home and there is always a 2 to 4 hour gap, they won't work on the solar unless someone is home.

Long story short it's June 17th 2019 and my solar still is not working. I've tried to make an appointment for the last week and half but apparently my case is escalated and now only a certain team can schedule the appointment. Great. Right! Well the service # you call into can't connect to this escalated team ever so they always say they are going to call back. Never happens.

Oh I almost forgot, Vivint is billing me every month on estimated use even though the system is not producing anything. They keep saying once we get it fixed we will correct the bill. Anyways almost half a year later I still don't have solar, I am getting billed for usage that I'm not getting, countless hours on the phone, appointments I need to wait for. The sales guys kept saying, "Someone will get ahold of you", but no one ever did. Finally, we got ahold of the manager in charge of our case and scheduled a day to have the panels installed. May 13th the panels were installed, to find out the plans were changed, and no one told us about it. We were never given the blueprints of the panels either. The crew was disrespectful and left trash, metal and screwed everywhere including on my roof, which I had to climb on. The Mechanicville inspector came and said the boxes for the panels were not installed correct.

The Vivint Solar inspector said installing the boxes for the panels inside our garage was like “rolling the dice”. When we look at where everything was installed, it was done sloppy. They had more than enough room to install everything correctly. I spent hours on the phone with the company trying to figure out when to reschedule and what to do, first I was hung up on and then the gentleman on the phone said he couldn’t do much for me. They told me we had to wait until June 10th because they have no one available. We reschedule for June 13th and they never showed up. We started this process in March and it has been very stressful. I love the concept of solar panels and would recommend them – I would NOT however recommend this company. I promise is will be the biggest regret you have with your home.

    1. Selling story + sales pitch: Not completely transparent.

    2. Installation: Poor workmanship.

    3. Loan company + Vivint Solar do not work well together therefore you spend COUNTLESS hours attempting to get to the bottom of things.

    4. Vivint customer service is miserable to deal with and lack a basic understanding of their systems + processes.

    5. IF you are selling your home, BEWARE: The two companies you will work with don’t speak to one another and therefore it took us 9 weeks to get this sorted out – we almost lost our buyer twice because of how awful this process was. We spent over 19 hours on the phone with both companies. We were lucky enough to have a 90 day close of this would have cost us every buyer we would have to deal with.

    6. The loan company will begin charging you for the system even when it is not UP AND RUNNING. We actually lost all savings for two full years based on this, little secret they don’t tell you because Vivint is supposed to reimburse – they will fight you on this – it is mid-June and we are still fighting for overages we paid in February.

From the installation to the customer service and process of selling our home, this company was miserable to work with. Their customer service is horrible and very unaware of how their sales team is pitching the product/services/processes in the field. When we were sold the system, at no point was a lien against our home mentioned but once we moved forward we agreed to deal with this misrepresentation. The installation was not done well and therefore we did not pass inspection on two occasions.

Keep in mind the loan and the solar panels are with two separate companies who do not care to interact with one another so we started paying our monthly loan amount even though the system was not up and running because of workmanship. We have been pleading with Vivint to reimburse us for those months that the system was not running but they believe because we paid the bill one day after the system began running – this doesn’t even make sense as you pay in the rear… ridiculous.

When we put our house on the market, we were lucky enough to have a 90 day close, thank goodness or we would have lost any buyer we came in contact with. I reached out to Vivint + Loanpal 10 weeks out and didn’t actually get an answer from anyone (after 15 hours of phone calls) for 6 weeks – everything was “we will let you know in 72 hours.”

At one point, on two occasions our buyer was going to walk as they didn’t want to work with these companies. They don’t speak to one another and refuse to move forward until the other has – nightmare and incredible stressful process. I can't imagine we are the first family to sell their home but you wouldn’t know that with the way we were treated. I understand at times companies have hiccups here or there – from start to finish this company has been by far, the worst company I have ever worked with. We regretted this decision within weeks of installation. Solar is an incredible concept, look at other local companies. PLEASE! Learn from our mistakes.

My son had an appointment with someone from Vivint Solar so I went over to his house and listened. I liked what the salesperson had to say and I was very intrigued about it. The more I thought about it, I wanted to try it because I’ve always been interested in an alternative source of energy. However, it took 4 months for me to go live. I signed up at the end of November and they put the panels on my house at the end of December. It was during the winter months, so it was a little touchy about getting people out here to do what they needed to do. Then, I needed to have it inspected by the city and my current electric company. It took a little longer than I expected because the city inspector dropped the ball a little bit. I kind of did my own reconnaissance and was able to get it put on. I went live in mid-April.

Customer service was very helpful. I called a few times because I wanted to find out why it was taking so long to become active. But once everything got ironed out, they were here. They turned me on, and so far, I’ve been pleased. Vivint Solar could be a little more on top of their customers’ accounts to see what might be taking a little longer than possible. Otherwise, I’ve had no other issues with them.

I had a solar years ago, in the ‘90s, but it was for a swimming pool and I know how well it worked with my pool. But when Vivint Solar came to my door, I wasn't interested. The only reason I listened to them was because I had had Vivint Home Security for about three years and I knew that I like it. At this point, I’m satisfied with the decision to get solar but I’m not really satisfied with the process.

When the salesman was here, I told him I know what solar does. But I asked him what the benefit was and what I was expected to get from Vivint Solar. They did tell me but I also told them that when this is all finished, I need someone to come to me and show me what I need to know about the operation, if there's anything, and what I should expect my bill to be. He somewhat told me what it should be but I’m still in the dark.

It was not only that. It also took forever for them to install it and although that was okay, no one kept me informed. No one called after the salesman left and said what was happening. He called one time but it was a hold-up because it took about five months. On top of that, Vivint Solar had left a folder with all of the plans outside somewhere around the side of the house and this Vegas wind blew over. My neighbor brought the paperwork over and said it had my name and all my information so he knew it was mine. When I told Vivint Solar about it, it was no big deal. They said they usually leave that out there for the inspector. But I didn't like that. Why was my business being left out there? Why would they leave it out there? Why wouldn't they give it to me and have me give it to them? That’s what one should do. They never did pick up the paperwork too. I was told to just leave it. So that was confusing.

I can understand there could be problems. They had a little problem with getting the solar approved and they had to keep coming back and adjust. That is cool but no one even informed me of anything. The only thing I know is they knock on the door when you’re out of your door and that’s when they’ll let you know. I don’t even know what I’m looking at. I know there’s solar on the roof and that the panel box is on the side. They gave me instructions on how to turn it on. But I wasn’t even sure whether I was turning it on all right. Finally, someone called and said they checked the area and that it was right.

I understand a part of it. It was explained that they have to make adjustments. A guy lives in the corner here and I see he has solar but he's got a bunch of panels. I asked why I had such few when I have all these people here and they said it depends on the household and what we use. So I understand that and they’ll make adjustments as we go through. But I hate when they tell you something then you don’t see them anymore. He also gave me his card to call but I never get an answer. I wasn’t satisfied with the process of keeping me informed and still being in the dark. I’ve sent emails explaining I wasn’t sure what was supposed to happen and I didn't get a response. I don’t like not fully understanding what my money is doing or what we’re supposed to be doing.

I also called and inquired about my bill as to what I was being charged. I wasn’t sure whether Vivint Solar was keeping track of the cost and what I was producing. I don’t know what I’m supposed to produce. Are they keeping track to know for sure I have enough panels? My bill on electric did go down to $68, which was very pleasing because it would've been more than that, at least $100 before the air is on. I’ve got two electric bills and they’re roundabout the same. The other one is a couple of dollars cheaper. What Vivint Solar charged me was 80 some dollars and when I add the two bills together, it comes to about $150, which is good. It is a reduction. But I asked whether Vivint would be charging me the same thing every month and I was told no. They're taking it out automatically and I don’t understand what to expect and what exactly should be coming out.

I want to know what I should be looking for from them every month and what it should be producing to show me what I should get from the electric company. The only thing I heard was that they were gonna be charging me $15. That probably comes down the line because they have to make adjustments to make sure that I have enough panels. But I’m feeling like I’m in the dark and no one is really addressing it. I called and the rep sent me a sample copy of the bill. But she said it was not really a bill.

My neighbor mentioned that he thought Vivint Solar was a good program and got me interested. So I got the card for the rep, Tony. I talked to him and he did such a good job explaining things to me that I was bitten by the bug right away. Before that, I never really considered solar energy because I didn't wanna have that kind of cash outlay at my age. I didn't see any payback either. I looked into some rentals but I understand that there were some problems with solar activity so I abandoned it and figured I'm just gonna have to pay the high electric bills. When I talked to Tony, everything changed. He convinced me that there is absolutely no cost to the homeowner – not to the mortgage or the property taxes – that sold me completely.

I'm very satisfied with my decision to go solar. I already got my first bill and I could see the savings immediately. The only thing is that I've had a little anxiety with the communication. It has been really poor when I've tried to call the office. In a couple of times, there was a long wait time and then I got disconnected. Then another time, I got connected and the rep was gonna research something for me but then we got disconnected. When I called a third time, the music was playing and I kept getting, "We like your call. We'll call you back." The system is a little screwed up so that needs attention. But I like the communication by email and with my representative. Those are perfect.

I am being screwed over by Vivint Solar for the 2nd time in 3 years. The first time, one of their useless agents delayed our install by 3 months, and when we fired him and asked for a new one, he started stalking our home and leaving letters in our mailbox asking us to not get him in trouble. I reached out to the Vivint executive team, and they gave us discounts to keep us from calling the police or filing a lawsuit. Now, they have successfully blocked the sale of our home, and the purchase of a new home, a process we have been working 6 months to complete. Vivint's predatory and unclear contract language is the ONLY REASON we are not able to move forward with these transactions.

Don't believe anything they try to sell you, they will lie through their teeth every step of the way, and are unwilling to work with you. If you sell your home to someone who does not want the panels, they will NOT remove them for a simple $500 fee, and they will NOT transfer them unless your utility company at your new home matches your old home, and this policy will NOT be clearly stated in your contract. I have spent hours on the phone (mostly on hold) with the Vivint team, and have reached out again to the executive team, and have had 0 response. Stay far away from this company. I regret signing their contract more than any other mistake I've made in my entire life.

I have a big concern about the service. Most of the people that I've encountered at Goshen and Visalia, California are good people. Every time that I call them, they answer me very fast. The hard thing is when I call Vivint Solar directly. That’s hard. I have to wait for hours in order to get somebody to get help. Another thing that’s too hard for me and for most of the people that I know is that most of the information that they have is via emails. I have five properties that have the panels right now and most of my tenants don’t pay the bills because they don’t know how to handle the emails.

If this company can make the bills and send them by mail, that will be perfect for everybody. That will be the best thing that they can do. They can solve about 80% percent of their problem. I also really hope that the company makes it more easy to make a contact. If this company can handle those things that we need, they're going to make a lot of people happy and they can get more business.

Vivint team never mentioned the extreme bird problem we could (and have) had with our solar panels. There was nothing installed to keep birds out from nesting under and around all the solar panels. Our yards are littered with piles of bird feces every day (this is not an exaggeration!). When we attempted to contacted Vivint, no one would call us back then we were told to hire someone to enclose the panels (for $1500 +). Shouldn’t this be part of the package?!? Vivint’s customer service has not been helpful and are very difficult to get a hold of. Very frustrating! I wish I would have used another company who takes care of the potential bird disaster upfront as a standard practice, not an extra nightmare for the consumer.

It was kinda hard to compare all the different options and trying to figure out what size to get. Every company is a little bit different and there are different panels. There was a Vivint Solar salesperson walking around the neighborhood knocking on doors, and he happened to knock on our door. We were considering solar energy before then and the way it was presented, it sounded like a good deal. The rep made it sound like Vivint Solar was just taking over as the distribution company and that we were paying our bill to them instead of PECO, but I later found out that the money that we’re paying is actually to lease the panels. The sales rep always responded when we had questions and he came by during each step of the process to make sure everything was going well and answered all of our questions. So, it was a good experience.

The installation went smoothly. The guys showed up on time and they were quick. It was done in half a day or so. However, by the time they installed it, we had to wait for someone to inspect the work and then, we had to wait for PECO to do the interchange and that took a few months to happen. I’ve had solar for only a month. The installation was in the wintertime but it didn’t get turned on until late spring. I'm happy as long as when the 20-year term ends, it’s not a headache and that it’s as easy as they say. We can just decide whether or not we wanna buy them or give them back though I wasn’t clear about that transaction, or even how much they think it would cost to buy them out. He couldn’t give me an estimate, which was a little weird. Still, being solar is saving money and I’m glad we made this decision because everyone has been trying to move to cleaner energy now.

I was at my brother-in-law's house who passed away and it needed a new roof. A gentleman from Vivint Solar stopped and talked to me about it. I told him that he couldn’t do that house but he could come and see mine. He came to see ours and it worked out that we were in a good spot for solar. The biggest thing about installing the solar panels was getting a new roof. Also, I was interested in solar energy services to save on electricity. When everything has been said and done, I'm gonna be saving minimally compared to the electric company until the system's paid for but after that, it's almost free.

Enrolling for the service was all electronic. The rep filled out most of the information. There were some documents back and forth that I had to send electronically, but that all worked out fine. Somebody left their company and that delayed the installation. My file got set aside for a month or two. The girl who picked it up finished what she needed right away and it was fine after that. Both the roof crew and the installation crew did a nice job and cleaned up well. They tried to make it look as good as possible on our house and the solar panels are producing right about what I use at the moment. We had a lot of cloudy days this month though.

The solar has been operating for a month and I've got a $34 credit with National Grid. I didn't have to pay them anything this month. I haven't got my first bill from Vivint but it seems like it's gonna be very similar or a little bit cheaper than what I was paying to National Grid. So, I'm saving money monthly and I'm developing a credit. However, I'm paying 21 cents per kilowatt and if I overproduced electricity, even though I get a credit into National Grid, they're not crediting me 21 cents. Their credit is 12 cents a kilowatt. So, if I'm overproducing electricity, it may not be the best deal and there could be a loss there. I’m wondering if on certain days, I should shut the system off if I overproduce since I'm paying more than I should. For the environment, it's good that I overproduce but I'm paying Vivint for everything I produce. So, that's my money. Still, I’m satisfied right now and I've had a good experience.

We had a sales rep, James, come to the door. He told us about Vivint Solar. Part of his explanation is the fact that we would be able to save money which was a key factor. Contributing to going green is good too. My husband and I both talked and thought it was great idea. They came out within days and set this thing up. I’m satisfied with going solar, per se but dealing with this and trying to get it started and going was an absolute nightmare. We waited and waited and waited for when this thing was gonna get started. I understand there was a lot of red tape. They have to go through Duke Energy and transfer over. Somebody came to the house and my husband was outside when that person came. He said, “Okay. You guys are a go.” We figured it was a go, but it wasn’t. Something had to be done to make it a go. But we didn’t know that and we didn’t hear about it. That was kind of frustrating.

I got a bill from Vivint for $105 which they told me I would get. But I also got a bill from Duke Energy for 130 bucks. This isn’t right. I’m paying Vivint and I’m also paying Duke Energy. This will put me in the poor house. So, I called the customer service department and I talked to this gal. She told me I'm gonna get 2 bills. I said, “No, wait. I understand that I will get a bill from Duke Energy which according to James could be up to $10 or so.” I have this electrical contract or warranty thing with Duke Energy, so I realize that’s gonna be on there, but not that I’m paying both. The rep said apparently, my solar was not picking up enough to cover it. I said, “I have 26 panels on my roof. What are you talking about I don’t have enough?” I asked her to let me talk to her supervisor and she said there was nobody there to talk to. I asked for a name of somebody that I could call back and ask for and she said she couldn't do that.

So, my blood pressure was just raising and raising thinking I’ve got these two bills and this girl was telling me it was what it was gonna be like for a year. This wasn’t what James told me. I called James and got no response. It went to voicemail. The time he called me back, I had finally got it worked out. The girl left and came back on the phone. She asked if our solar was working. I said told her I assumed so. Somebody came in and said we were good to go. I asked her how was I supposed to know it was working. She asked me to go out to the meter and take a look.

I just had knee surgery and I was out there trying to climb over some stuff that my husband kinda put in the front and me moving it. Apparently, the solar wasn’t working. You had to do this and switch this and switch that. And she said we should be good to go. I asked her what are we gonna do about the two bills we’ve got. She said they'll credit it. I told her my daughter’s probably in the same boat and she doesn’t know what’s going on. I told her I referred her, but I’ve not heard anything. She said they were gonna send me 250 bucks because I referred somebody. I’ve never seen the 250 bucks.

This thing went about two weeks ago. It was so frustrating, and I don’t think it needed to happen that way. They should’ve called me. They finally sent an email with something attached saying what I need to get my solar up and running. This was after I went through all the steps with this girl on the phone. It was a little late for them to be doing that. It’s like the right hand doesn’t know what the left hand is doing. As far as the account goes, I can watch it and see how much it’s putting out. It’s great. It’s gonna be super. So, in that respect, I’d have to give it a 10 as far as going solar. As far as dealing with Vivint Solar's customer service department, I’d have to give it a 5. I have to commend the workers though. They flew them in from LA ‘cause they couldn’t keep up with the people that they had. These guys worked from beginning to end without taking a break out in that hot sun.

We've looked at solar for many years and the fact that the payout wasn’t where we wanted it to be at the time to buy it and then we saw it, and I wanted it to go into our contract. And so, with Vivint Solar, it made it easier because we're just paying for electricity they were generating. We were able to talk to the salesman. He responded when we texted him and he came back and he explained things to us. We're looking and seeing how it goes on the first solid months. We recommend them to somebody.

We started our plans with Vivint Solar in January. We had been looking into solar for a couple of years and they knocked at the door. We wanted to contribute a little to the awareness of power, carbon, and pollution. Everything was great when we dealt with their reps during the setup process. The installation went great too.

I'd always considered solar energy. We were renting at the time we were buying the house, and the guy from Vivint Solar that came in was perfect timing. Everybody was very nice. Sean was really good, and he told me I could call him for anything I needed. A couple of times, he came over and explained things to us. They did all the work and I didn't lift a finger. All I did was make a phone call to go faster. My last month's bill was a hundred and some, and this month it's $12. I'm loving it. I'm really satisfied and I've already told a couple of my friends.

There was representative from Vivint Solar walking through the street and he caught me in front of my house. He asked if I was interested in solar. We were generally interested in solar, so it seemed like a good offer at the time and we went with it. However, it could be a little clearer on how the process works as far as paying Vivint and then in turn, paying the electrical company. It wasn’t all too clear to me until I got some documentation well after the enrollment period on how it would work but overall, we’ll be okay. The enrollment process was simple but it was a little drawn-out. So, it made it difficult to make a decision on keeping the company or cancelling on the process. So, the actual sign-up period was fine but it took a while for things to get in motion and to get going.

The guy from Vivint Solar came to my door and the guy behind us has the same company, so he recommended them. We’ve been considering solar energy for a few years and I’m happy with the decision to go solar. The representative was nice and we got on well. He went out of his way to help. The people who brought it and put it up were great. They didn’t leave a mess and they were on time. However, the customer service would answer then hang up on you. They would put you on hold and then hang up. So, I have a problem with them.

Customer service has been no good to me and it doesn’t work here in California. I was not happy with them at all. They were always in a rush and they were the ones telling me to go through the website. The website was not answering questions and customer service was supposed to have those answers. I wasn’t upset and I was telling the guy that did it that if it wasn’t for him, I would’ve had them come and take them off. I don’t go through customer service but I go through the rep. I try not to bother him because he’s busy but for now, we don’t have anything. If not, I would email Shannon and she would call me back.

I was upset because the payments came in and I wasn’t being confirmed that it was gonna be an automatic withdraw. I didn’t wanna be late because I’m not like that and they weren’t able to answer any of my questions. So, I had to go and buzz the guy over and over it. There was no need for that when customer service should have that information. I would recommend Vivint Solar but it is hard to get people referrals because most of my family is out of state and a few friends that I have, they already have solar. I told my neighbor about Vivint Solar but people are scared of being scammed because the HERO Program screwed a lot of people over. So, people now are hesitant to believe anybody.

I'm very satisfied going solar at this point in time. I worked with the sales agent and I had no issues at all. He told me when people would be here and they were here. When they put it up, they did a very safe condition and kind of enclosed the area with a construction tape making sure nobody would get into it. They did a very clean job.

I was told from the point in time that I signed the contract that it could be as much as three months before they work on the installation. Once that’s done, it’s within a month, which is exactly what happened. The only thing that I was a little upset about was when the electrical company came, they sent me an email that said, “Okay, you’re fine.” But nobody sent me an email saying, “All right, you can turn on your solar system.” I found out that I could turn everything on when I got to a point where I wasn’t getting any emails and this was about three weeks after they came in.

Vivint Solar has the power purchase option. I was concerned that if the solar panels weren’t working properly and I was paying a monthly fee, I could be paying a monthly fee for a solar panel that’s not producing power. As far as the solar company is concerned in that case, they wouldn’t be rushed to come and fix my unit because they’re still getting their revenue from me. The case with Vivint is as I produce the product, I pay the product. When I had an internet issue over here which was their original network didn’t work, they got involved in another service and they hooked me up over here which I would thought they would do because we did the power purchase option.

The nice part about Vivint is when I researched it, the original units had to have a wire connection from practically every one on the panel. That means there’d be numerous holes in your roof. There is a confusion in the fact that the people say that there’s an issue with solar ‘cause they put so many holes in your roof. What sold me on this concept was there’s only one hole because there are units that are intelligent now that will take all the information into a controller on the roof, then send that information down to another controller. They’re called optimizers.

My neighbor across the street put solar in his house. Then when we were out in the front yard, I queried him about who he got it from and how much it costed him. He told me about Vivint Solar and that it cost him nothing. I still didn't quite understand how it worked. Then Ryan, a freelancer that represented a couple of different companies, showed up at my door and was selling Vivint Solar. I began talking to him about that and the deal where there would be no out-of-pocket expense appealed to me.

We went through the process. There are certain conditions that a client has to meet and an agreement to sign in order to sign up for the deal. It took at least three months for them to design the system and send somebody to come out and survey it. Then it took two trips for that because the guy had an equipment problem. We finally got around to deal to where I qualified and I was interested. So we signed all the papers and they came out with a crew of three people and installed the system. The permitting process took some time. There was initial permitting through the local power company and then another one from the county billing inspection department. Finally, we got through that. And it has been working for two months now.

There's only two living in my house, the wife and I. And Vivint Solar determined that the 13 panels would produce enough power for the two of us. The solar system doesn't work at night, so we use the local power. Then in the daytime, it produces more power that we use and it goes into a bank and the power company keeps a record of that. Then you build up credit over time, which is used against what you use from them and they balance it out. The first month's bill was great. I owed the power company $6.86 but I owed Vivint Solar $54. It was about $60 in total. On an average, my bill at the time was $93. So that's about $30 a month in reduction on what I was paying for the power. I still have a bill from the local power company, but it's more about records and the amount of power that's being generated and used.

I love Ryan because he is a neighborhood kid. He went to high school here three blocks down the street. One time, he told me that he was gonna come and show me how to hook that system into my computer so I could monitor its performance and activities. But he has never done that. He said he was gonna do it a couple of times, but he never did. Also, my neighbor next door to me is interested and the guy hasn't come back and contacted him. I'm dissatisfied that they haven't gotten back to me. I'm not getting a response to this business of getting in touch with the people that I know that would be interested in this program. There's not enough follow-up.

In addition to not hearing from Ryan, I haven't heard much from Vivint Solar. There are so many agencies involved and that's the reason it takes as long as it takes. So the follow-up with all these activities that have to happen, Vivint Solar doesn't have any control over. They're patient, but the client is not too patient. And I don't understand why it takes so long.

I also would like to see an organized company in uniform or at least in a uniform shirt that says Vivint Solar on it. They came out here and got blue jeans and cowboy boots. Also, the vehicles that they come out in don't have Vivint on the side so that neighbors can see what company it is. Vivint has a product that they should be proud of, and their workers should be proud to work for them. But to date, I'm satisfied with the cost and the payment result with Vivint Solar.

We had been thinking about getting solar for a while, and John and his partner Corey came by. We sat and listened to their presentation and decided that we would go with Vivint. It took a while for the process to complete but overall, we’re satisfied with it. I talk to John periodically. He calls at least once a month to check in with me. I have the literature that they provided me with about the company. And periodically, I review it to see if there’s anything I don’t understand. So far, so good.

We’re yet to see those savings because of the way it works, but I’m sure that that’s gonna come. The way it was explained to me is that the more energy that the solar produces, the more we pay for that month. But when the lower months production arrive, then it equals out. Our bill is right on track with what we figured it would be as far as knowing what was explained to us. We’re waiting for those low energy months to see how it comes out. I wanna see what the end results are over a few months when the heat goes up and where we have to start using air conditioning. I also wanna see when the months come along that it’s not producing as much. I’ve already gotten some folks that are interested, but they wanna see how it turns out for us. Hopefully, I’ll have some referrals for Vivint and we’ll see what happens.

Overall, I’m happy with going solar. The only thing that really threw me through a loop is the way that the Vivint Solar program works. When the guy was doing his sales pitch, for some reason, my mind was stuck on a traditional utilities type of billing. But what it is in fact is that they put the solar panels on the roof and you’re not being billed for the power that you use. You’re being billed for the power that you produce. That means that the sunnier it is, the higher your bill is gonna be. It just seemed backwards. But I did call customer service and I did understand their explanation.

Basically, it smooths out the peaks and valleys for the course of a year. You can't look at it according to what one month cost. It’s through the course of the year, how your panels produce electricity and what your usage is through a season. It makes your total utility outlay much more even, rather than spiking in the summer when the air conditioning’s running 24/7. So at this point, it's not actually saving money because I’ve only had it for a couple of months. At least, this is my impression. The program has more of an annual focus rather than a month by month by month.

On the other hand, the enrollment was super easy. The guy took care of everything. If something needed to be done, he’d either give me a call or show up on my doorstep at about 5:30 in the afternoon and tell me what was going on. I had to sign some papers, disclosure forms and all kinds of weird stuff but overall, it was fine. He was also always soft selling us stuff though. He was saying something would come through in the next week, blah, blah, blah. But in fact, the overall time period stretched out more. I understand that he’s a salesman though, and this is what salesmen have to do. It just didn’t happen as fast as he’d said but that was also because of permits and that’s not necessarily Vivint’s performance. There are city inspections that had to be done.

My neighbor had solar panels from Vivint Solar installed on his roof. I had already entertained a prior company before Vivint and I got a quote and everything from them. They were very inadequate so I went with Vivint. Vivint was the better product. The first company wanted to put 9 panels on my roof and Vivint put 36. I was a little blown away by that. I was very happy to see that.

The customer service was great but their sales reps can stress a little more that it takes quite a bit of time to go solar. We started in November and I got turned on on April 1st. Looking back, it ain’t that bad but I thought it would happen just a little bit sooner than that. But I don’t look at that as a negative. It takes what it takes. Papers gotta be pushed. They go from office to office and I get it.

I’m very satisfied now but a little scared about the future. I see what’s happening now. I went from a $260 electric bill to $12. That was during a rainy, not-a-lot-of-sunshine April. So, now, May was rainy also, but a little bit sunnier, so I’m curious to see what my bill is this month. I’m just a little nervous about what’s gonna happen in December when the sun isn’t out there. Is it gonna bounce out? Am I gonna come ahead? But I would absolutely recommend this product. If the consumer can get enough panels up there, it’s better. I’m looking forward to reversing the grid, put some power back into the system and start getting the negatives.

Austin came by and with his tutorial, getting solar energy services sounded like a good thing. The enrolling process with Vivint Solar was an easy thing. But it took a while to get going. There was a thing with permits and scheduling a day to have it done, and the weather didn’t cooperate with us one time. Then there was something else that came up. I had another contractor here, siding the house, and he had to do what he was doing before the installation team could actually start putting their stuff on the side of the house. It's not on the roof but on the side. So it was a little bit of a bump in the road as far as the actual start of the installation.

Then after the installation, the inspections and the electrician coming out here to have the electrical inspector from town, there was a little hiccup with a grounding issue. A lot of time went by before I was actually certified to be up and running and online. But as far as the installation is concerned, that was impressive. They had a crew of guys out here and they worked as a bucket brigade. It was nonstop and they were done within a day. It looked like an army of ants working on the roof of this house and getting the solar panels up there.

We got a bill maybe a week ago and we actually have a credit with National Grid. For like half a month, we were experiencing nothing but rain so the sunshine was at a shortage and we still managed to pull off a $104 credit with our supplier National Grid. But as far as Vivint is concerned, I have not received a bill yet. I think that number is $157 and some odd cents and I had received an email for this. So I don’t know if there’s a mix-up or there’s a belief that I’m gonna autopay this because I didn’t sign up for autopay. I’d also rather have a paper bill that gets sent to the house. There was also a whole process between National Grid, Vivint and an incentive program. But things really are not clear and there seems to be one or two question marks at this point.

PG&E over here in California were found guilty of starting a bunch of wildfires and the consumers were gonna take the hit in recovering the cost. They were gonna double their cost per kilowatt, so I tried to find some alternative methods to save some money and got Vivint Solar. It turned out to be a little bit more expensive than I had imagined per month. Typically, my bill was around $100 or less. With Vivint just for the electric, it's been like 115 and 130. To my understanding I pay for every kilowatt that is generated and then come through up time at the end of the year, I get adjusted for that. That was how it was explained to me. So, I notice I'm definitely using a lot less electricity than I'm generating. Hopefully at the end of the year I get some type of refund or credits. Otherwise I'd be paying more all year per month and not really saving money.

But the rep that I've been speaking with is a real cool dude. We had a lot of in common, so it was really easy to set everything up. I came across some issues with scheduling when the panels were getting installed and inspected because of my schedule and a little bit of a miscommunication on Vivint's part when I wasn't told that there would be an inspection, and no one was home that day. It eventually got straightened out, but about two months later than expected. I was out of the area for a while too, so that was one of the reasons why it was delayed. But I was hoping to get everything taken care of before I had left.

Avoid this company at all cost! I feel terrible for anyone who signed up with this solar company. I am in the middle of buying a house with solar panels from this company and I truly feel bad for the people who currently own this house because no one in their right mind would take over this contract for solar. Just some key point I have found with the solar contract

With the contracted solar, the rate is $0.10 KWH and increases 2.9% every year. Near the end of the 20 years this comes to $0.172. Currently JCP&L is $0.094 Which services that area. They have a 28 panel 7.14kw system. This only produces no more than 80% of the total house consumption of electricity. This number came from Steve over at Vivint Solar. So you would still at minimum need to get 20% of your electric needs from an electric company.

Their current bill is around $105 a month during the summer months. You have to pay per KWH whether you use it or not. Average is around 1000kwh a month in the summer and 500-600kwh in the winter. Once again all information provided by their solar company. At the end of their contract they will not own the solar panels. According to Vivint Solar because you never own the panels you do not get any of the tax breaks associated with solar. There are only a few options to do anything with the contract if you are looking to buy a house with their solar.

    1. Purchase the system now as is. This one is currently 5 years old and cost $26000.
    2. Pre payment. So you pay the entire 15 years left up front but still do not own the panels.
    3. She has to relocate the panels to her new home.

It actually brings the value of the house down if you have their solar!!! I'm not sure how there hasn't been a class action lawsuit on this company yet. Beware! Avoid at all cost!!!

It took six months to get the ok to use the panels, thus missing the pleasant Bakersfield summer and costing me nearly one thousand dollars paid to my favorite electrical energy source, Pacific Gas and Electric. When the panels broke into the sunshine this spring, I was thrilled to think that whatever energy the panels produce will now off set my annual donation to PG&E shareholders' grandchildren's college funds/vacation cruises around the world. What to my surprise my PG&E bill was zero! Progress! Unfortunately this was followed by a $117 bill from Vivint. Upon calling to inquire about this astonishing bill, the youngster who answered was more than happy to chortle, "You signed the contract!" and I could hear the laughter in the background. I continued to politely ask some pertinent questions only to get the same joyful response, "You signed the contract!" and more laughter in the background.

This month my PG&E bill was zero but, not to outdo themselves, Vivint's bill is $175. What a deal! Run, do not walk away from any Vivint representative. Then do your homework and allow a lawyer to closely examine the contract. They have me tied tightly and unless the house burns down, I'm stuck for the next twenty years. Can you imagine what fun I'm going to have trying to sell this house?

The guy that sold Vivint Solar to me misled me on how exactly it worked. He didn’t explain the PPA program to me. I’m not sure if he just didn’t know, but I thought I was gonna get paid money, selling it back to the grid. So, I got my first bill from BGE of $8, but then three days later I got a $200 bill from Vivint and I was very taken aback by this. People say that the first bill is gonna be a little surprising, but after that they kinda average out, as they were expected to be.

When they were installing my panels, they said they would send out bigger panels, so I was actually gonna generate more electricity, and all that means to me is that I’m gonna be paying a larger bill. And yet how much I produce was what they based my bill on. Other than that the customer service reps are very good. But they need better explanations of the exact process of how everything works. If that was done, I would’ve understood it and that would’ve changed my decision. Now, I’ve asked somebody if I could buy the solar panels, and of course, nobody got back to me about that. I’m hoping for improved results, but I don’t know that I’m gonna get that.

It is now 6 months later, hours of phone calls, and numerous contradictions of information later and I still don't have them on. All this while neighbors around me, with other companies, had theirs installed after me and are receiving solar benefits. After their refusal to remove them from my home I have no choice but to take legal action.

The guy came to the house and had a pretty good sales pitch and it made a lot of sense. The install and everything was done exactly as he said it would be. The only problem I have is my electric bill is triple what it was when I was with the electric company. I was under the understanding I paid $.25 per kilowatt hour of usage. I’m getting these huge bills and was told I pay for how much the system produces, not how much I use. I live in Southern California. It is sunny almost every single day, of course the thing is going to produce and produce. Why would anybody pay for production and not usage. I feel I really got rope a doped. Luckily it has been cloudy and my bill was only almost $400. I’m guessing in the summer months it’s gonna be closer to $1000 a month.

Several people on the street got solars and then one day, the guy from Vivint Solar showed up on our door. Everything's going that way and I think it's better just buying panels than to get electricity somewhere else. They're making the money off of it instead of my stepdad. But with Vivint Solar, he is saving money every month on his bill. We're very satisfied with the decision to go solar. The Vivint guy was real nice and everything was good. We also had to speak to customer service once and they were very courteous. We didn't think that the thing was on but it was. It’s just like a computer. BEWARE! Roof leaking causing damage to house. Communicated issues to Bobby ** on the Damage Resolution team. Bobby sent a team out to assess the roof, stating that the roof was leaking due to rotting leaves under the panels and stated that panel guards are offered for purchase; however, the sales rep never offered this option.

My dad was not satisfied with his determination of the roof deteriorating due to the rotting leaves as the roof was flashed wrong, and pieces of the panel construction was not secure. Bobby sent another tech out and that tech stated that a lot of things were done wrong with the installation of the panels. The tech confirmed that the flashings were flashed wrong and the panels should've never been placed to an double layered roof because of the additional weight of the panels. He stated that the grommets are not long enough to go through two layers of shingles. When the panels were installed the installers put multiple holes in the multiple flashings when only one hole should have been placed per flashing throughout the roof.

To "remedy" this situation, Bobby sent the tech back out to patch the roof where it was leaking. The patch job caused the roof to be uneven, patchy, and wavy; the roof continues to leak. The tech also changed a little bit of the insulation and cut out two pieces of plywood and patched it back up and put shingles over top. The trusses have mold on them. The house has no attic, and the roof is going to need to be removed and assessed to determine any mold growth since there are leaks throughout the entire house - this is a HEALTH HAZARD.

Bobby promised that there would be a roofing contracting coming out to assess the roof, and no one has came out to look at it or give an update. Bobby has been getting harder to get in contact with and is often "out sick", and has not been responding to emails. The roof needs to be replaced, contract terminated, and panels removed from the property. The techs have them laying against the deck with wires exposed to the weather.

I’m not too happy with Vivint Solar right now. Although it sounded like a good deal and their salespeople were upfront, after the installation, they never turned the system on. For about three months, I kept getting bills of around 190 dollars from Duke Energy and I was also getting billed by Vivint Solar, which they were taking right out of my bank account. I called Vivint Solar in Utah and talked to at least five different people on five different occasions. They all promised they would do something and that a technician out here would check the system, but nothing ever happened. That was the poorest customer service I’ve ever had in my life.

I was almost at the point where I was gonna call an attorney, and then I finally got in touch with the regional manager in this area. He came by and said that the system has never been turned on. So, then, they finally turned it on. But I want some of my money back. I got another bill from Duke Energy last month and it wasn’t as high as the two prior bills. It showed 485 kilowatts that the system had generated. But if I get another bill from Duke Energy this month, then I’m gonna call Vivint Solar and have them take these panels off my roof.

This company has taken control of my home and I am seeking an attorney to resolve the matter. Don't let them into your home. My husband talked to them about this deal and they never explained that we would be under a 20 year contract and that we can't sell our house until we get the next sucker to agree to the balance of the contract. I never got to hear their speech since I was at work, and my husband was ill, and has since passed away. Every time I call a customer service rep, they don't like what I am asking them and they hang up on me!! At least 3 times!

The last time I called was to tell them not to take any more payments from the business account that was my husband's. He hung up on me and put the payment through anyway, and it bounced and caused me overdraft fees. I called the bank to stop payment. They got government grants to cover all the materials, and we have to pay for all their equipment producing energy on MY house!!! They are making billions off of unsuspecting people like me. I hate it. They will show up at your door unannounced and push their way in when they want to check the receiver box on your computer. My 86 yr old Mom was home alone when this happened. I was mortified. Vivint, you are no better than the MAFIA and I can't wait until you all go to jail.

Afterward, I monitor what’s on the application, but I haven’t seen the comparison between what I’m using in real life versus what I’m producing. I don’t know how to tell that. We had a knock on the door from a local Vivint representative asking if I would be interested in solar. I said that I've heard of the company before. We had them as an alarm company years ago. He did a really good job explaining the benefits of that. And based on our consumption of electricity as it is, it sounded like we would be able to eventually get our money back. We've had Vivint Solar turned on for a little less than a month but my understanding between National Grid and the local community is it is a long process. Our representative explained that upfront, so it wasn't a surprise to us.

We received one partial bill and it was only for about four or five days, but it clearly showed that the system is working. The one thing I don't like is the app itself. It is very unresponsive and it is not a very good app for the iPhone. Still, I interacted with customer service a couple of times and they were very good. I have no issues with them at all.
