I've had very bad cust service. Had panels installed on a my roof that is only 7 yrs old. First rain roof leaked. Never leaked before! Vivint sent someone out and they said it wasn't their fault. Had a roofer come out, they stated that it was whoever installed panels that as they were working on it caused the problems. Vivint said they don't agree so too bad. Will be getting a lawyer.

Steer clear of Vivint Solar. Their Customer Service is horrendous. Panels were installed late last summer during a prolonged drought, which is rare for Connecticut. When the rains finally appeared the roof leaked and stained the ceiling. Contacted Vivint and got a perky reply that they would address the problem right away. After many emails and perky replies that they were on it they finally showed up about a month late. Said the leak was fixed and they would be in contact about the stain. A few weeks after, another leak appeared. Same perky replies but no action. After many inquiries about when the problem would be addressed they stopped talking to me altogether. BEWARE!! You have been warned!

I had great expectations when dealing with the local sales representative but from that point forward everything has gone downhill. I have tried calling to speak to someone at Vivint Solar and can not get anyone that can answer any questions. Tell me I cannot cancel before 5 years. I was told upfront that I can cancel anytime I need to. This company does not deserve a #1 rating, wish I could give it a negative 100.

This has by far been one of my worst experiences with a company, my contractor and myself have been calling and emailing and no one can give an answer besides to either call again or someone would be in touch, it's been over a month and a half of every week trying to contact them. I mailed a check and they cashed it but will not get back to me to have my panels removed so the new roof on. Won't contact me or the contractor. So they literally are sitting on around $3500 that I mailed. I finally got through to someone and she wasn't able to assist so I asked for a manager and she stated that she is really busy so she would have to send an email, that was 3 weeks ago and still nothing. I deal with customers all the time and if someone needs something escalated it's passed up to me and I make sure I handle the situation by following up no matter what the issue is to make the customer have a positive experience.

Updated on 4/13/2021: This is a follow-up to my review on February 23 where I gave Vivint 2 stars. Now, if I could give them zero I would. After my review on the 23rd, I received the customary response which they've sent to several others on this site that they would like to help which all of you can see. However, the customer service dies after that which is the part you all cannot see. After a brief message exchange on back end of this site, vivint totally stopped responding. Meanwhile, my bill is now higher than it was with Edison (triple the price it was in February) and I'm still getting an additional bill from Edison. I feel like they only provide the initial response on this site to make it APPEAR that they want to address the problem to everyone viewing the review. I do have vivint home and things are great but stay far away from vivint solar.

Original review: I have the Vivint security system which works fine so I thought I'd try Vivint Solar. I've had the system about 6 months. The installation was okay but I don't see any savings and now I'm getting two bills, one from the electric company and one from Vivint solar and the Vivint solar bill keeps getting higher. The app provides pretty useless information. I mean, yay for the environment (I guess) but the whole thing was not worth the trouble and since there are no tax benefits when you lease the system you end up asking yourself, "why did I do this?"

    Reviewed Feb. 22, 2021

I regret my decision to go with Vivint Solar. We are now exactly one week away from March and I was installed before Thanksgiving of last year. I first suspected trouble when I made it clear to my sales rep that I had a solar attachment for my CT scanner and that I would like for them to attach that during the install. He said he notified the foreman and they'd be aware, but sure enough when they arrived I showed it to them and nope, "thats not me, the other guys that do the electrical work maybe".

They didn't know what I was talking about either. So everything gets installed sans my solar attachment. Someone from vivint arrives to meet the inspector from the utility. I ask him if he could install it, he says he can, I leave him and he's gone. I find out my entire scanner isn't working, despite the instruction manual left behind. Apparently he had replaced the cables, not ADDED these in. He also had it upside down. We had opened thep panel and undid what he did. He had to come out again later that day for something so we told him, and he actually looked around and only at this time he said he couldn't be done because the solar stuff terminates on the side of the house and the panel is far away on another wall.

If only that was settled on the day of the install. At this point I was expecting lots of miscommunication and falling through the cracks and of course, it happened. A week later the upstream utility for our town municipal utility said our rebate was denied because of the shading on our roof. Keep in mind Vivint told me pre-install they would survey everything and make sure they'd prevent issues like this. No big deal, it's just $1,000, I can call town and get that settled eventually but in the meantime I should be activated, right? Weeks later I find out that is wrong. Apparently this also means we couldn't be activated? I'm still not sure.

Juan from the interconnections team had sent me an email telling me due to Covid it will be 9 weeks before activation. Uh, ok. They can send people out immediately to intall the hardware on the side of my house and roof but not activate it after it the inspection was approved? OK. I waited patiently for weeks. I emailed him back and back again and no response. It's like a ghost. There but not there. I tried calling support but it forces me to enter a number before I continue and it doesn't recognize my phone number so I can't continue. Emailing support is futile but it's a canned response saying someone from the interconnections team will get back to you in 2-3 days and they never do. And when you reply asking why they didn't, you will be told it will take 2-3 days for a response.

I got my trees cut back so there is zero shading on my roof. I notified the person from the utility and my sales person. Through the sales person, Ritchie, we were able to get someone from Vivint out to do a new shading report. It's not normal for the sales person to have to hunt people down and coordinate these things but he's the only person at Vivint that is able and/or willing to help. Everyone else is a ghost.

That report was done last week, and of course I was told I would get a copy of the report in a couple days and I have yet to hear anything. To do this day I don't know if the tiny amount of shading on my roof was the reason they refused to turn on my panels or if that was purely to reject my rebate. Or was it both? I really don't know. No one at Vivint that I can get a hold of can tell me.

I've paid 5 figures in cash, all at once to get my solar activated and it hasn't. Believe it or not, the winter months are my most expensive usage because the furnace is on 24-7. We keep the AC mostly off and use fans where possible. Our energy usage has tripled and we can't use our solar that's been sitting on my house, inactive, for MONTHS. And no one at Vivint can help me or tell me why. They can't even give me my documents I have signed. All the links to the documents have expired and it's not in my customer portal. I can only image how things will be in the following years when I inevitably need support. I feel I have made a huge mistake. Every step of the way post-sales has been miserable.

Updated on 04/22/2021: **ZERO STARS is my real rating.** They were completely misleading about how they charge. During the sales process I was assured repeatedly that if I would not be saving money they would not go through with installation. Following a horribly mishandled installation experience (Don't expect communication or good customer serv.) with this company, they now charge me more than I would be charged if I simply paid my electricity provider without solar. Because I live in CA and it's sunny and produce more energy I have to pay just for producing that energy, regardless if I use it. I am then charged for the energy I use by my electricity provider.

FYI your electric bill will never be $0.00 because you have to pay your provider for access, $22.25 is the lowest my bill will ever be. Example: last yr Apr 2020 Bill: $65, Apr 2021 Bill: $105 (Total) and I used 30% less energy this year, way more than just a regular bill. BE AWARE that NO MATTER if electricity is used by your home you are paying for every kilowatt produced by those panels. I live in CA so I will be paying very high bills from now on because I signed a contract, as customer service loves to point out. They offshore customer service, which is excruciatingly hard to communicate with, then refuse to transfer you to a supervisor so you're just stuck. No offer of solution or compromise, just a reminder that there is a signed contract. My recommendation is DO NOT USE VIVINT. If anyone knows how to get out of this unfair misleading contract I would like to know.

Original Review: I'm a disabled vet on a fixed income and have been lied to and jerked around by this company. Do not use this company! They do not care about their customers and will just be rude and give you the runaround because you signed a contract. They will not fix issues or help. Panels have been in place over a year, it took them 6 or 7 times after installation to try and correct issue utility company told them needed fixing. Never was fixed even though it was the same issue each time. Now, they received permission to operate and now I pay for Vivint service, while also paying higher electricity bills from SMUD. Called them and they don't offer to fix it for the inconvenience, but tell me to review my contract. They are HORRIBLE!

I really wish we had read the reviews on this website before moving forward with a contract with Vivint to install solar panels. They told us it could take several months for them to schedule an inspection with our local municipality. But my husband was at the city permit office and the inspector told us Vivint submitted the paperwork in the beginning of December and the city is waiting for them to schedule an inspection. They said they can schedule it for the next day.

We are also disappointed in our sales rep, Trey, who swore to us he would check in with us on a weekly basis to keep us informed on the progress. Once the papers were signed, nothing. Except to tell us he was going to Hawaii on his commissions. I guess our only avenue is to have a lawyer contact them for breach of contract since they are not moving forward with having the system turned on. Sunrun should not have purchased this business, it makes them look bad too.

I got stuck with a 20 year contract with Vivint Solar. In their promises it says they don't put a lien on your property, but when I refinanced I had to go through a whole process to be able to refinance. They also say they will fix or pay for any damages to your property or belongings. This past weekend we got about 30 inches of snow. The snow slid and ruined the gutters on my house, only on the side that the panels are on. If this snow falls all at once and someone is at the front door, they can get hurt and I can have a lawsuit on my hands.

I called customer service as I was told to submit a damage report so they can get this fix. Now they are telling me that they are not responsible for any damage. They said they can have someone fix this but I am fully responsible for paying. They will not fix anything and they will not take off the panels because I am stuck the them for another 17 years. I am very disappointed with the way they lie. I will be seeking legal advise, because this is not saving me money but is causing me all this stress and expenses. I will be talking to a lawyer! Very very disappointed!!!! And unhappy!

Please be aware of what you are signing on to. In my opinion, the sales reps do not represent the true "heart" of the company. The reps put up a good face and at least my rep provided good customer service, but that is where it ended, at the rep. For those that live in a region where it snows in the winter, accumulating/falling snow is something you need to be concerned about. Something my rep forgot to tell me and it didn't dawn on me that the solar panels change the way snow interacts with the roof until it snowed and an avalanche of snow fell on top of my son while he was standing to get into our front door. With this most recent storm that dumped 18" where I live, the falling snow broke my gas grill. From the companies perspective, this is something that happens and the contract specifically states they are not responsible for for damages caused by their product or falling snow.

As the rep put it, it is something our customers are aware of and they just avoid it when it falls. So when you have snow on your roof, just make sure you are always looking up as you do not know when the snow will be falling off the roof. They have offered to fix to problem but at a cost of $2000 to me. Had I known at the beginning this might be an issue, which my sales rep admitted he might have forgotten to tell me this, I would have thought a little harder as to whether to go with Vivint to install the panels. Just a word of caution to be aware of this if you live in an area with snow and please read their fine print.

After about 2+ hours of an informative session by the sales rep., Juliana, I receive emails with documents to sign. After signing the first document and being excited as a result of the great experience I had with Juliana, I open the second document on which the sections were not filled in. Only a signature of a David G was at bottom next to where I was to sign. Concerned about the blankness of the forms I called Juliana who attempted to explain that the company would fill the form out prior to submitting it to the State of NJ. The form indicated that I was signing that I was certifying that the information on the form was correct to the best of my knowledge, but the sections did not have information filled in.

Desiring to have the Solar system I asked if I could be sent these forms in the process after the company could put the information on them before sending them to the State. Juliana placed her manager on the phone who seemed rude and gave poor customer service, and actually told me they did not need my business emphatically, and indicated that he wanted me to understand that they did not need my business, and that was in response to me the customer who was excited about getting the solar system, but just wanted information filled in on the form before signing, and who offered the option of signing it after it was filled in by the company, and being willing to currently sign other completed forms. Horrible hurtful experience!!!!

I am writing this review to warn consumers. I am at a point of utter frustration with Vivint solar, a Sunrun company. For the last 14 days after having the panels removed from my roof, I have begged, pleaded, emailed, called, at times on the phone for up to three hours and 18 minutes, texted, etc, requesting for Christian **, the operations manager in the southern New Jersey area go to the Marlboro Township to complete a permit for the removal of my panels and the restoration of the panels since my roof was completed and town requires this in order for me to sell my home.

Christian ** has failed to take my phone calls, failed to respond and because of his lack of responsiveness this past Friday I was not able to sell my home. Buyers of my home we’re locked out of their mortgage. I have spoken to over 25 different people at Vivint solar and although very polite no one has been able to correct this problem. It’s still continues today. I am now on a full out mission to let it be known this company is the worst I’ve ever dealt with in my life.

Can you kindly call me at **. I’ve already filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, I called Channel 7 On Your Side, and News 12 in New Jersey. This is a horror. The way I’ve been treated is poor and shows a lack of responsiveness and customer service. To add to my while this is still not resolved and I cannot sell my house until they file a permit which would take five minutes in the town. This is a horror.

I requested that my solar energy produced by my system be reduced. My system is making so much energy that so much of it is going back to the grid. I have 580 dollars in credits from the electric company that I will never use, because I never have an electric bill. My solar bill is usually high. I decided that I would like to ask Vivint if they can put a cap on how much energy the panels make. I learned this was called curtailment. I opened a curtailment case with Alejandra on December 15th and I was told it would take 5-7 business days from the 17th to hear back. I sent my last 12 months of utility bills as requested.

On Dec 31, 8 business days later, I had not heard back. I sent a text on Jan 2nd. I also sent one on Jan 3rd. Three texts went ignored. Finally, once I asked to make a complaint, I got a response. Alejandra was very nice and polite and she said that an analysis was being run and they would have a full outcome in 2-3 weeks. She also provided this email so I could make a complaint and I appreciated her help.

On January 19th, I had still not heard back and it had almost been 3 weeks. I texted again and they said it would take another 1-2 weeks. On January 27th, I checked in again. Alejandra said my curtailment case was denied. She said she attached 2 files, one of them was a soft savings analysis and one of them was a system performance report. Neither attachment was there. I emailed her back requesting that she send them again and give more information on the denial. Veronica sent me the System Performance report but not the soft savings analysis. The wording she used in the email to me was not readable and full of errors. I asked her if she could explain what this means: "and due to your system is not producing more energy that the one that you are using the process cannot be approved".

I also requested the soft savings analysis again. Jairo emailed me back. Again, I still did not receive the soft savings analysis after asking twice. Each email I was sent, I was told that "I was previously informed" this and "As we informed you in previous emails" but no sensible reason was given. Next, Veronica emailed me again. She called me by the wrong name this time and sent me a copy paste of what was previously sent to me, the explanation that did not make sense. I decided to call once I got out of work. My first call was with an employee badge number **. She wanted me to speak with a supervisor and when there was no one available, she gave me her badge number to "guarantee someone would call me in the next 1-2 hours". No one called.

My second call was disconnected by the system before I was even able to speak to someone. My third call was to a man who tried to connect me with a supervisor, but again, no one was available. I received an email from Natalia saying someone would contact me within 24 hours. I was previously promised a call before 7pm that evening, and now I am at work so if someone even calls today I won't be able to answer it. I have been patient and polite to everyone I have dealt with. I have worded my questions clearly and put so much effort towards just getting two things: An explanation that makes sense as to why my curtailment request was denied. The soft savings report that I have asked to be resent 3 times over email and multiple times over the phone. No one has been able to help me.

My contract states: A Seller Default shall mean Our failure to perform Our material obligations under this Agreement and the effect of such failure is not cured within thirty (30) days after You give us written notice of such failure. I have had my solar panels on my home for just over two years. The first year the panels operated without problems even though they did not come close to keeping up with demands of a Arizona summer. The second year was when the system started to fail. I went over a month without any production. I didn’t realize it until I received my electric bill from my energy company APS. Contacting customer service is a joke! It is obviously an offshore company fielding the calls. When asked to speak to someone in the United States, I still got someone whose English was not his first language. After many calls to a “supervisor” I was told that they would send out technician to inspect. They never showed up! 3 calls later I got a 2nd appointment and finally they showed.

The problem was tripped breakers on the panels and poor connections. It was repaired and back to business. Vivint refused to compensate me for 45 days of non-functioning panels. A call to the Vice President of Vivint in Utah fixed that. Yes, I tracked down the name and phone number of the VP. They refunded me $500 for my problems only to have the panels fail 6 months later. Another visit by the “technicians” and a report of the same problem. I now monitor my production almost daily. I got a hold of my representative that sold me the original panels. He recommended that we add more panels because the original assessment was inaccurate. So I said to him, let’s see how much they will cost. A few days later, he told me that I could not have more than one loan with the company that finances them. They only use one lender! So, no new panels and no other company will add their panels to another company.

Yesterday I saw that my production communication from my panels to the electric provider has failed again after just 40 days of operation. I am now waiting on the next visit to my home from the obviously inept, poorly trained “technician” that will most likely tell me the same thing. Whatever you do, don’t use Vivint. As a postscript; I find it funny how all the replies from Vivint on this site are pre-scripted responses that start with: “Oh no!”

I initiated contact with a local Sales rep named Brice. We welcomed him into our home and started the process Jan 2020. Due to the pandemic our process was delayed after signing paperwork which we understood. Our panels were installed in July at which time the first town inspection took place. Our final inspection and sign off from the town occurred in August. We’ve yet to have the panels turned on, we continue to get calls from the company as they are confused about where we are in the process and the sales rep is clueless.

He continues to promise resolution as does customer service yet we have to continue to follow up with them as if it’s the first time they are hearing that we have their panels on our home. It’s extremely disappointing considering we are still paying a hefty electric bill. The only reason I selected one star is because the installation crew did such a good job, they were so professional and considerate of our dogs and work day. If it weren’t for them I would 100 percent not recommend this company and especially this sales rep.

Vivint Solar has contacted me many times saying they are not getting information from their system about how much power my solar panels are producing. So since their system is not working correctly they estimate how much usage and charge my account accordingly. I have contacted them and I have been hung up on and when I spoke to a representative he said they would check into it.

Updated on 03/12/2025: Update: since my 2021 response, I have yet to get a call from Vivint concerning my complaint. They stated it was assigned to an agent, but it is now 2025 and I never received a call or resolve, yet my service continues and I am on auto pay, i.e., a good stable payments. Nevertheless, I still highly recommend solar.

Updated on 08/24/2021: Vivint Solar damaged my roof placing the solar panels on, but I did not realize it until a year later when water worked its way through to my child's bedroom. I paid $499 to have panels removed & then the games began. I had to chase them for a couple of months to have my solar panels replaced. Now they sit on my new roof & are NOT connected, but a magic bill for phantom solar appears each month. I have emailed, called, spoken with several Reps who say it will be expedited and reconnected, but nothing, all Winter 2020 to now Summer 2021. Still no solar service, now, no calls are answered, no messages returned, no emails responded to, just ringing lines and promises of auto call backs. This company joined with SunRun and they suck, were much better before, Now I want my roof back! I need them to come get this garbage off my house.

Original Review: I must say that I have enjoyed the solar experience! I saved money on my electric bill and the install was without concern. However, a year later, my roof started leaking. I contracted a local construction company to inspect the roof. They showed me pictures, which I verified with the date details on each photo, of my roof with a whole the size of a boot just above my 7 year old son's bedroom. Water was already entering my son's bedroom by this time and I had to relocate him to another room.

My 7 year old was diagnosed with Autism, the water coming into his bedroom horrified him! He refused to sleep alone for several months. Regardless of how many calls I made, Vivint was extremely slow to respond. After 17 calls (no exaggeration), I finally spoke to a Rep in the Panel Removal department who told me it would cost $499 for the panels to be removed. I promptly paid the same day 8/11/2020 and was told I would be contacted by someone in the Removal Dept in 2-3 days. THIS NEVER HAPPENED. It took me until 11/12/2020 to have my panels removed. It took over 12 calls, multiple emails, several promises of moving my file to "urgent", and promises that a "manager" would call me back!

Once the panels were removed, my roof was replaced the same day, but not before the Vivint contractors, as they were removing the panels, allowed some materials to drop from the roof, smashing my patio wooden steps! Now I was on the hook for chasing them AGAIN for the repair, ugh. I am still awaiting resolve for that matter, but that department has been more cooperative, at least.

Back to the panels, which as of 12/29/2020 are still not replaced. I was back to multiple calls and emailing for now, two reasons, the damage and the replacement. Finally, I got a Rep on the phone who told me that since my panels was an "all day job" they had no one until Dec.28, 2020. Vivint had no panels on my roof from November 12-December 29, 2020 and STILL charged my account! Once I contacted them, they said a portion would be replaced to my account. Why a portion?! I was told that this is the procedure. I demanded that they stop charging my account immediately and discontinue my automatic payments, which they agreed.

My appointment for panel replacement was scheduled for yesterday, 12/28/2020, which I received 3 confirmation text messages (probably was a sign). Needless to say, today is 12/29/2020 at 353pm and I just got off the phone, with, you guessed it, another REP saying someone would CALL ME BACK "to reschedule the panel replacement".

At this point I am no longer interested in Vivint Solar. I am not calling them any longer and contacting my lawyer to learn my rights to have Vivint remove me from this contract. Since they already have their panels back and obviously refuse to honor their own policy, I will take the loss for the $499 and seek another solar company. This is my resolve today. I refuse to allow this to mount into another reason to stress or worry, with rapidly growing pandemic reports, incoming Winter weather, homeschooling, teleworking, and not being able to be with my family, add to this supposedly pleasant holiday season.

I am sadly disappointed in Vivint's response to this situation. A resolve for my pain and suffering would be a FULL refund of my $499, my steps repaired, and my solar panels fully replaced and operational. I am still a cheerleader of solar. I believe we should all do more concerning our atmosphere, but beware of the company you contract! I do not recommend Vivint any longer, although I have two neighbors in the past. This experience highlights what many neighbors expressed as their reasoning for avoiding solar panels being attached to the house.

I purchased a home with an existing solar system on it so I didn't get to pick Vivint as my solar company. The pricing is okay, but oh man the customer service has been TERRIBLE. When you first have your offer accepted on a house with an existing Vivint system, customer service wants you to sign an agreement assuming the lease almost immediately. Even before you have been cleared to close on your house! I'm a lawyer so I thought this was ridiculous. I read all the agreements inside and out and buyer beware there's obvious way to undo this lease assumption if your purchase ends up falling through.

Then the actual transition comes. Two months in and they haven't given applied the $5 per month discount for being on auto pay they supposedly offer, even though I've had my account set on auto pay from the day I got my welcome info. They don't tell you that you have to reapply for Net Metering through your local electric company and it's practically impossible to find all the information you need to complete the Net Metering application (what's the capacity of the system, the installer license number, etc.).

It takes weeks to get an email back on the simplest request for information. I sent in a request to find out why my $5 auto pay discount wasn't on my bill and was told "it's being forwarded to billing for more information." That was 10 days ago and no response. It took almost a month and about 10 emails back and forth before I finally gave up asking for one piece information my utility company needed for my net metering application. Thankfully the utility company approved my application without it.

The concept of solar panels is great. I like having them. I have yet to see any kind of savings on my electric bill though given it's been 3 months and I'm just now actually "producing" energy according to my utility company. So far I have yet to have any maintenance issues or repair issues since the system was installed in June. I know at some point I will though and I'm dreading the customer service nightmare that will be.

VERY VERY BAD BUSINESS PEOPLE!!!! I am having a very bad experience with this company currently that's causing me to have nightmares, literally. I had gotten solar panel installed through Vivint (Sunrun) since August of 2020 and was told that I will be activated in 2 to 3 weeks. However, today is December 16, 2020, and after multitude of emails and phone calls, and broken promises from Vivint, they still haven't activate the panels nor a date is set for it to be. Not only that the panels aren't activated to date, but also, I'm now paying for my usual high electricity bill, PLUS my monthly solar panel payment. This is counterproductive and is very disheartening as I was sold on the premise that I would be able to save money, but instead spending even more now in the form of 2 different bills, and for solar panel that my family or I is unable to benefit.

To make matters worse, they have promised to reimburse me for the panel payments and I'm almost 3 payments in, yet I haven't received any reimbursement. Now, it seems like they have blocked me from emailing them and when I call, all I been getting is promises to call me back, but no one is calling me back. It was never like this initially, as I would always get to speak to someone when I called, or if I email them, it would go through and they would respond in a timely manner.

Over the past week or two, this has changed. My emails bounced back and when I call, they claim they cannot get through to the department that handles my issue. So, I'm now stuck with panels on my roof for which I'm paying monthly, but it's not activated. Hence, I'm also paying for my usual high electricity bills. This has caused undue stress and anxiety in this financially difficult time. I cannot afford this and it's really unfair. It's like they made their sale and they don't care about me the customer! So my wife and I got into solar, thinking it was a good idea to save money in the long run and and help the environment. Well that's how they sell it to you. I understand we agreed to it and as well we should've looked more into this. This message is for any other person ever looking into solar panels. DON'T GO TO VIVINT SOLAR.

First off we were not told at the day of sale that they put a 2nd lien through the finance company they use. We found out when we were trying to refinance our home and couldn't because of. We asked the rep will it show on our credit or anything else. The rep told us no it won't as long as we make payments and on time. It doesn't show.

2nd thing we asked after inspection the inspector they sent said the roof is still good. So we asked if in the case we need to replace it how much would it be. He stated he doesn't know the exact amount but it's not much. Find out today its $4200+ to take off and put them back on. Mind you it's only been 1yr 1/2 we had it installed. We have to have our roof replaced now bc of a hail storm. The 4200+ has to be paid upfront. No payment plans, not half then payment, nope all of it.

3rd find out later through a family member that has solar through Tesla. They charged him total 28k before the solar credit and has a battery with the panels. We're getting raped by 42k without battery included bc at the time they don't include that, but that would be an extra 5k+, To add it in the future once it's available. Like WTH!!!. So for future people looking into solar there are better companies including tesla that are better than vivint solar period.

A local rep contacted be via FB and then all the sudden I received several calls and email. We were told our account "had fallen thru the cracks". When the installation finally began, we needed a new electrical panel. The "electrician" that were sent out to do the job were substandard, didn't have a clue what they were doing, and they did a horrible job, our stucco siding is a complete mess.

The work failed inspections three times and was never communicated to us. We received an email Jan 2020 saying they had good news, we passed inspection and were going online, come to find out in April 2020 we had failed inspection. We had enough at this point, in July I told them to come and remove the panels. I then received several calls some telling us we couldn't have the panels removed because we signed a contract and some very helpful. We finally settled for a $500 compensation. Everything seemed to take months to complete & required numerous phone calls, as reminders, Now that the job is complete, we are not pleased at all.

I received an email to set up my online account to find out it didn't work. Again, I sent several email and phone calls with no response from Vivint. Then, this morning I see they took payment out of my bank account. I called and finally contacted somebody. Well, they only gave me a $300 compensation, thankfully I saved all my communications because I had to provide them with their own documentation. We currently are paying more money to Vivint Solar than the local power company. I only found out since after three months I was finally able to log in to our account. I recommend to do your homework, as we wish we would have done ours and not went with the first company that came knocking at our door. I have had my Vivint solar array for about 6 months now, and I usually try to write reviews with pros and cons because there are very few things that are all good or bad. Unfortunately, this is an exception. I have no pros for this review, my experience with my solar array has been bad to worse. I was sold on the whole solar energy idea when I sat down with the representative from Vivint. I was told that the solar panels would increase my property value, I would get a $6-$7 thousand in tax incentives, I would get $800 from my utility company, the panels would completely cover my current power bill and I would only have to pay the loan for the solar panels and that would save me money as the cost of energy increases every year. I should have done my due diligence and checked more of these claims from a third party but I knew the Vivint rep personally so I made the mistake of trusting them.

NOT a single one of the promised outcomes happened, not one. If memory serves I got a few hundred in tax incentives and $200 from my utility company. I had my home professionally appraised and the appraiser told me in no do way solar panels add value to your property. On a side note, I would also speak with a home appraiser before purchasing anything that claims to add value to your home. After speaking to a few of them the general consensus is that almost everything that claims to add to your property value is not being honest and has absolutely no impact on the value of your home.

However, most disturbingly the solar panels do not even create enough power to cover the power my home uses on a monthly basis. The most we have received credit for is less than 300 kWh for an entire month for the last several months. We use on average 700 kWh per month, which is the amount Vivint built our solar array to produce. So now, not only do I still have an energy bill, I have a solar panel bill. So, instead of reducing my monthly expenditures as they were promised to do, I have doubled my bill. I could easily deal with not getting the amount of money promised in incentives, things change and I get that. However, not coming through on the level of energy production promised is something else entirely.

I have made a few calls to Vivint to see about getting some of these issues sorted and I have not once gotten someone on the phone that speaks English well. So not only am I having issues with my system I now have a very evident language barrier with the customer service team. I gave up on after my last phone call when I was trying to explain to the rep that my panels were not producing the promised amount of power. They had absolutely no idea what I was trying to say. To sum this up, my experience has been abysmal. I would avoid this company and any product they are selling.

UPDATED 2/21/2021: While working through the issues where Vivint prevented us from refinancing our home due to them filing multiple liens against our title, we discovered the solar system was actually inoperative since May 2020. This was while Vivint was trying to determine a fair market buyout price as a "goodwill" gesture, but in order to do that the solar system obviously has to be functioning as we had observed a 20% reduction in power production over a 5 year period. We brought this fact to their attention. However, we discovered when the solar system goes down,

Vivint continues to makes unauthorized charges against your credit card for non-existent electricity production. They claim these are "estimated" charges, but this simply not true as in months with partial power production, Vivint chooses to bill at the much higher "estimated" full month production. I've gone over the contract with a fine tooth comb and nowhere is billing for "estimated" power production provided for in the contract.

Furthermore, in the months where the solar system is down, we must buy the power from PG&E (our utility) at a much higher rate than the Vivint contract rate. You won't notice this until your year end "true-up" billing. At this point we had paid PG&E for power delivered from mid-May 2020 to January 2020 something like $2000 and Vivint auto-charge d our credit card over $800 for non-existent electricity during the same period during which they had produced no electricity. I know this sounds crazy but I am attaching photos of our power delivered and amounts billed by Vivint.

You can clearly see in May production ceased mid-month. Normally you will see upright bars running all the way from left to right. In June, you can see the zero power production and corresponding zero $ charges from Vivint as is appropriate. However, beginning in July you can clearly see that even though there is little or no power production, Vivint inexplicably began fabricating power production on our billing statements and began inappropriately charging our credit card for non-existent electricity delivery without permission. It is really quite a scam.

We contacted Vivint numerous times by phone and in writing demanding that they cease making these unauthorized and unsubstantiated charges against our credit card. Vivint ignored every request and demand. We were tempted to cancel our credit card, however reading online reviews on other sites we heard about others doing this, which then resulted in Vivint continued the inappropriate billings for non-existent electricity production but then Vivint reported the unpaid amounts as past due debt! It is all unbelievable, yet true.

So, putting aside the multiple liens that prevented us from refinancing our home, the attempts to force us into signing an NDA and "no-claims" settlement falsely portrayed as a "contract amendment" by refusing to lift the liens, and the inappropriate and unauthorized charges made against our credit card- now we had to go through the excruciating solar system repair process. Needless to say this was another complete nightmare. Vivint scheduled and then no-showed for 3 appointments. Since the "Ethernet bridge" component suspected of being bad was located inside our home, I had to be present.

This meant I took 3 days off work needlessly and Vivint never called or otherwise advised of the no-shows. After I started posting online we did get some actual technician visits, but it took another 3 visits to finally get the system operational (knock on wood). The technician that finally was able to repair the system had to come all the way from San Jose. These guys were great and finally got it right, but the system had been totally inoperative for over 7 months while Vivint continued to charge our credit card as if the system was completely functional!

In summary, during the process of attempting to resolve the breach of contract multiple liens filed against our property and the strong arm tactics conducted which prevented us from refinancing our home, we discovered that solar system had ceased working, Vivint does no monitor the solar system as articulated in the contract, and Vivint makes unauthorized, inappropriate, and unsubstantiated charges against your credit card not provided for in the contract. I know this will seem quite unbelievable but documented proof is attached. Selecting Vivint has proved to be one of the worst mistakes I have ever made, so do your homework across multiple online review portals as there is quite a variance. Buyer Beware!

ORIGINAL REVIEW: ***Beware*** Vivint's PPA filing on your property is considered a lien by lenders and will definitely "cloud" your title, thus preventing you from managing your home such as selling or re-financing. They make a big deal explaining how it is not a lien and everyone is stupid or ignorant for thinking that (you know- unknowledgeable, inexperienced companies like Wells Fargo), but at the end of the day, unless they "lift" the notice you cannot sell or re-finance your home.

We attempted to refinance our home in 2017 and discovered that Vivint refused to release and then resubmit the Notice of an Independent Solar Energy Producer Contract filed against our property title, which prevented us from re-financing with Wells Fargo. Wells Fargo contacted Vivint to request a release or resubordination of the "lien" or "notice" on our title but Vivint refused to do unless we added foreclosure language required by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Wells Fargo provided an industry standard 1/2 page form for Vivint to complete and lift the lien, which Vivint refused to do.

Instead, the Vivint rep (initials JE) insisted that we sign a new 4 page contract amendment before lifting the filing against our property by Vivint preventing us from refinancing. This new contract amendment was considerably less favorable than the original we had signed and included a statement that we released all claims against Vivint, included a non-disclosure statement (NDA), and the document was actually titled "Settlement Agreement" on all but the cover page. Go figure. We of course refused to sign this disadvantageous contract which caused us to incur two mortgage rate lock fees (about $500 each) while Jacobo wasted everyone's time. Finally, after a month he of trying to get us to sign the settlement agreement/contract amendment, he relented and had the "lien" released and re-filed as we had originally requested.

Around this time we discovered that Vivint had actually filed two (2) Notices of an Independent Solar Energy Producer Contracts against our property- one in April 2015 and one in November 2015- a clear breach of contract. Wells Fargo pointed out that this would have put the mortgage lender in "third position" behind Vivint and no reputable finance company would accept these conditions. I related all of these concerns to a rep (initials AT) of Vivint last year (if you make enough noise eventually you get him put on your case- just FYI he's an attorney but pretends he doesn't understand these issues) and he, after jerking us around and pretending he saw no concerns, offered us a $500 credit. This was completely unacceptable considering the time and expense incurred, and of course now we no longer trust Vivint as a reputable business partner after the attempt to extort us into silence and force us to signa less favorable contract.

At this point we just wanted their system off of our roof, and their bogus filings removed from our property title. This was no inexperienced fly by night lender raising red flags over the filings against our property- it was an experienced mortgage rep who had done hundreds of properties with solar, and he told us he'd never seen anything like this. Rep AT and subsequent rep (initials JB, no longer with Vivint) also eventually offered us a buyout price of exactly the same cost had we not experienced such dishonest and unethical behavior from Vivint when attempting to re-finance our home. Vivint also does not account for the 30% federal tax credit they received when determining the value of your solar system, and they use a deceptive depreciation table that is not cumulative, thus your system will never depreciate to zero

Vivint's filing very clearly clouded title of our home preventing us from refinancing our home on our terms, and Vivint very clearly attempted to coerce if not extort us into signing a less favorable contract amendment including an NDA. Also, the Vivint sales rep indicated that one of the advantages to having solar was the system would continue to produce power during power outages, but didn't tell us that this power produced during outages flows uselessly into the grid while our home remains unpowered, and he also advised that upon moving or selling our home, the solar system could be removed for a one time fee of $500 which is also not true.

On top of that, the system has experienced something like a 20% decline in power production over the past 5 years. We thought it might related to dust, accumulation, smoke and fire debris so we asked Vivint to perform a standard panel cleaning as part the agreed upon maintenance as per contract, but Vivint has refused. Unfortunately, the 20 year contract you sign stipulates the property owner is responsible for any loss or damage to the system not caused by Vivint employees so we are unable to perform the cleaning ourselves or hire professionals without assuming liability for system damage.

With all of the fires and 5 years without cleaning we are reasonably certain this failure to clean the panels is contributing to the power production decline, but we do not trust this company and are unwilling to touch or hire someone to touch anything on their system. Now Vivint seems to have been acquired by SunRun and some of first actions taken are to disable complaint communications.

We purchased a new home and it has solar, the homebuilder didn't allow us to chose the solar provider, we were forced to use their provider Vivint. Shortly after the purchase the Vivint representative called and took all our information and asked several questions about our current Edison/power consumption, etc. However, I was living in a small apartment at the time and the house is 2.5-three times the size so not sure how my previous power use compares to my new projected use. He set up the all the paperwork and we signed the documents at least 3-4 months prior to the home being completed. I had asked on a few occasions on if they offer solar backup batteries and a home electric vehicle car charger, to which I was told he would get back to me on pricing. Never happened and even after 2-3 email requests.

I am very proactive, I set up my online account and watch the status/progress as the home was being built. We closed and moved into the house, yet Vivint still showed they could not process the application for permission to operate until a final building and electrical inspection was performed. I emailed my reprehensive and customer service several times because there is no way the inspection was not done and signed off by the builder, city, and utility prior to granting the occupancy certificate. That went nowhere for weeks, finally after leaving a frustrated review on another site I was immediately contacted, given many reasons why then told yes the inspection was already done but the builder didn't forward it to them. (Always someone else's fault).

Then they completed the utility application, but they did it wrong and had everything set up and set to my wife, when I am who manages this, I informed them of that and I am the primary on all contractual documents. So the PTO email notification went to my wife's secondary email and was not read for several days. However, we were told by the builder and the representative in the beginning, that once the utility approves the PTO, Vivint would call us and walk us through the process on how to turn on the system and get it producing. That never happened. So I watched several YouTube Videos based off the converter, etc that I have and turned on/activated my system. Only it never came on line nor produced.

I called Vivint for help, I was told I did everything correctly, they could see my system and it looks great but it could take 7-10 for the app and online portal to show the power generation for new accounts. After 10 days and still no power generation on the app, nor did Edison show any offset production on my bill, I contact Vivint again. After being on hold for an hour and getting transferred back and forth I was told yes there is a critical issue with my system and it's not generating power and they need to send a tech, but no tech was available for 3 weeks. Which is crazy, so I was paying a solar lease for no solar and getting hit full pop by Edison during August and Sept heat waves in S CA. When the tech came out, he said it's not a critical error it's simply that my panels were never paired to my system. It took him 30-45 minutes to pair them. He said this happens a lot.

However, my neighbors did not have same issue, theirs activated just by turning it on. Now, I notice I am not generating near as much power as I would expect and was told. Maybe 55-65% of my daily usage is being generated. Why was I forced to use this company, pay them and not even get a system that generates/covers the majority of my use? To add insult to injury, I completed an online info request to add the solar back up batteries and EV charger as they list them on their site. A sales person called me within 15 minutes, then stated I don't qualify as they are only for new systems/accounts/activations. Seriously! Probably better off though based off my experience to date. Honestly if you have the choice in your solar panel company I would chose another company. They are all Sales Sizzle but can't back it up once you sign on the dotted line.

Once I approved, I signed a contract to get the work started. Have not heard from them since. I reached out multiple times through email to the project manager on the West Coast (they don’t even have local reps in my area!). I can’t even get a response.

Now my application through NJ Clean Energy Program is set to expire soon (after a year, and yes it has been that long!) and because they filed the application, I can’t even go to another solar company to get my install done!!! I have since run into other sales reps at other stores. All they can do is give me a customer service number to call. I give them all my information, and then I get the same runaround... that they’ll look into it. Don’t waste your time with this company, try to get someone local that has decent customer service and won’t ignore your emails.

This review is concerning a solar panel system built on a new house. We had no choice in companies as the homebuilder already had this installed which is fine. Everything was installed before we moved in. It then took about 6 WEEKS from the move in to actually have the service started. The representative that was assigned to us kept giving us different answers but was unable to move things along effectively. Her answer was usually to put the issue on the power company, which may be true, but when I talked to the power company they would place responsibility on Vivint Solar. I cannot provide totally why it took so long to get service started but that issue was there and our representative was unable to really help with anything on that issue. It then took another couple weeks to actually start production once we had the permission to operate which was absolutely ridiculous.

Our representative requested that we continue to wait but once I contacted someone else at the company, they sent a tech. The tech then stated that they have to be sent anyways to initialize. However, my initial instructions once we had the permission to operate was to turn the system on and enjoy the solar. The tech stated that is never true and they must be sent. Our power bill ended up being hundreds more in the meantime as this is July and August in the central valley of California.

Our service has been functioning at approximately 50 to 60% of the capacity of the solar. With doing my own research and talking to techs and neighbors, it should be able to function at about 80%. I have been trying to work this out with Vivint Solar and the answer is that they create an offset to set the function of the solar based off expected usage. However, this is only been covering about half our energy use. Any representative that I have spoken to so far has been unable to do anything or refuses to do anything making us pay more and not have the total carbon offset that we could have.

I understand the offset is designed to prevent the power companies from having a surge of power during peak production times, which makes sense, but we have not supplied any power to the power company yet. I remember doing the survey that helped create this offset and all the numbers were based off our old house which was about half the size of the new house. The panels have been working fine as far as I can tell but do not know if my limited production is related to the system itself or this offset. I have not a knowledgeable response yet.

I had solar panels installed a few years ago with no problems. About a year later the Vivint solar came by and asked if I wanted more panels installed and I said yes. One of the requirements for them to install panels is you have to have a good location and sound roofing. Well I guess I fit the bill because my house faces southeast and I have brand new architectural or heavy duty roofing. I noticed a couple of months ago that there was a leak on my $15,000 roof so I called Vivint. They sent a so called roofer to inspect and of course it’s not their fault. They claim it was my flue vent. I asked their roofer if he can repair it and he said he would. The next time it rained I noticed that it was still leaking. I told the so called inspector/roofer that it was still leaking but I never heard from him again.

I had another roofer inspect and caulk the problem area that Vivint claimed but I noticed that it was still leaking the same amount and area. This tells me that it was never the flue vent that Vivint claimed. They asked me to get another roofer to inspect and email their report. I got an inspection from another roofer and they claim that it was probably the gray box causing the leak. This is part of the solar panels. I forwarded the report and sent pictures to Vivint and all I have gotten was a run around from one department to the other. If you value your home be cautious about getting solar panels from this company. I live in a corner lot so my neighbors always drive by my house and see the Vivint alarm sign and about 30 solar panels on my roof, I get a lot of questions about my Vivint services. After this experience I don’t think I will recommend this company to anyone.

I did receive two egift cards from Sam’s club on 08/09/2020 that totaled three percent of the purchase price. The gift cards did say they were from Vivint Solar. I am awaiting the balance. Vivint customer service is hard to get ahold of, or are non-responsive at all in the case of the sales representative when I ask for follow ups. It has been over three months since my installation. I have not received the full amount of the Sam’s Club rebate. What is going on?

Updated on 04/05/2021: I have not heard from Vivint regarding the complaint I submitted last October 2020. They asked for my address which they already had. Their Customer Service is rotten. When I called them previously, 2 employees hung up on me, 2 transferred me to the wrong person - I asked to speak with a supervisor and an employee pretended to be a supervisor but wasn't. One was extremely rude and told me that VIVINT CAN'T MONITOR THE SYSTEMS THEY ARE SUPPOSE TO BECAUSE THEY HAVE THOUSANDS. (Most HVAC systems are monitored electronically.)

They use an artificial number for determining settlements. I didn't accept because they have actual data and an offer of $40 isn't sufficient for the $357 I incurred as result of their incompetence. Out of the goodness of their heart they were willing to add another $50 but $90 still isn't enough to cover the additional $357 that I had to pay for their equipment not working. My system was down for approximately 10 weeks. I wasn't aware of that because VIVINT is suppose to monitor and maintain system. I had to pay $357 more for energy because VIVINT FAILED to do their job. It took them 10 weeks to request appointment to install the broke inverter.

I live on a fixed income. Vivint sold me a lie when they told me how much I'd save in energy cost. Since install in 2018 my bills have never decreased, but they do increase. My energy costs jumped 400% while they were not maintaining my system. Think twice or three times before considering Vivint. IN fact - it's best to find a better company. Vivint has horrible customer service and they don't follow through as they say they will. Can't rely on them to do their job.

Original review: One thing that helped me decide to contract with Vivint Solar was ability to predict electricity costs. Initially I had hoped the system would save me some money. I've had the system for 3 years and I haven't seen any savings. Up until July I was able to predict within reason what my costs are. Apparently my system went down and Vivint wasn't monitoring my system at the time. In August they needed to do some 'maintenance' work - translated it didn't mean 'maintain' it meant replace defective parts. I didn't know system wasn't working because if Vivint isn't working electricity is provided by PNM at their highest rates per kwh. Besides not monitoring that system as promised, Vivint effectively increased my electricity costs by 400%.

Problem - charged too much for Vivint's failure to monitor system. I'm on fixed income and don't have the money. Additional charges from Vivint exceeded my budget by 3 months of cost. Next problem: Last week after holding o n telephone I requested call back they offered. I never received call back. So today I've been holding until I can talk with someone. First call today I held for 45 minutes. I decided to try again since the estimated time was 20 minutes, Second call I waited 80 minutes before someone answered. She couldn't help me so she transferred me to payment center. I've been waiting 1 hour 40 minutes. Ridiculous!

It was suggested that I send an email and then someone would get back with me. EMAIL could be down today I guess. Maybe Vivint Solar wasn't truthful about sending an email to get response. They didn't specify a specific response time for emails. It might be months if they are as responsive with calls on hold. I honestly don't think Vivint will respond to my call or emails. They have me locked in to their contract while I continue to wait on hold.

My problem hasn't gone away. I've been on hold today for 3 hours!!! And nothing resolved. I can't tell you if Vivint has good product or will save money (maybe in 10 years) but their CUSTOMER SERVICE IS ABSENT. Customer care is as important as product. Vivint gets a ZERO from me. Unfortunately the scale only goes as low as a one. Someone called me & then hung up. I DON'T RECOMMEND VIVINT for SOLAR OR ANYTHING!

The time the sales rep came to our house until completion of installation and start up was almost one year. My husband was never able to get anyone to respond to inquiries by phone. Finally went to a nearby warehouse location. Our account "had fallen thru the cracks". When the installation finally began 6 months later, we needed a new electrical panel. The "electrician" that were sent out to do the job were substandard, didn't have a clue what they were doing, were not familiar with working in our county and came from about 3 hours away from our home.

The work failed inspections three times before we were given a final approval. We had to have power completely off for over 24 hours. Everything seemed to take months to complete & required numerous phone calls, as reminders, Now that the job is complete, we are not pleased at all. Our system is an add on or supplemental to an already existing solar power grid. I do not like that we never know what our usage is, only what the production is. We currently are paying more money to Vivint Solar than we ever have to our local power company for any overage that our primary solar was not producing. NOT HAPPY AT ALL. I would strongly encourage anyone in the midwest to avoid getting solar with Vivint. When they installed my system in late fall of 2019 everything seemed to go well. Until I went to clean out my gutters in late spring. I noticed the damage they did to our shingles when installing the mounts. Multiple shingles were ripped and they even drilled holes in wrong spots. Instead of notifying me of their mistakes they just filled the holes with caulk and left the damage.

I contacted them on June 2nd and filed a damage complaint, they asked for photos of the damage and I sent them. They offered $200 initially, when I refused that they offered $300. I refused that since I didn't believe that it would cover a roofer to come out and do the repairs. Instead of sending someone out to determine the extent of the damage I had to find roofers to come out and provide an estimate. Their estimate was $1500 which is clearly higher than what they originally offered. When I submitted the estimates it took them 5 business days to review it and initially deemed the estimates were to high.

Eventually they decided to accept the $1500 estimate. In our contract, Vivint states that "We will fix or pay for any damage we may cause to your Property or belongings" further in the contract Vivint states: "We will be in default (i.e., breach) under this Agreement if we fail to perform any material obligation under this Agreement and we have not made diligent efforts to cure such default within a reasonable time after you give us written notice of such failure (“Lessor Default”)."

When I asked both the Damage claims department and the Customer care department what a reasonable amount of time to fix my roof is? Both departments said they can't provide an answer and that there isn't really a way to provide an answer for what a reasonable amount of time is. I understand that during this covid 19 pandemic, things are more challenging, but when you can't provide a definition for something that is in the contract I believe that is unacceptable. Throughout this process I have had to constantly contact them to gain updates about the process of the claim rather than them contacting me.

Vivint contacted us in late spring/early summer last year. Mistakes were made in the diagnosis of our home/roof. They did not start til November. It snowed the night before they were to start. The very unprofessional workers put salt (a whole bag!) on our roof and took a snow shovel to it...and it wasn’t THAT much snow! The salt, as it eventually came off the roof, killed our grass in several spots, killed rose bushes, and damaged our roof.

While working here in November, the installers brought mud into our home on hard wood and rugs! Screws and bolts were dropped on our driveway and not picked up by the Nov. crew. Because we were gone for the winter it wasn’t finished. According to Vivint, the crew that worked here that fall were not retained! New crew came back in June, this year, they were much more professional, repaired our roof, and finished the job, BUT....they laid several Solar panels on our yard, and the sun streaming thru them all day killed the grass below them! I HOPE we find, when the panels are connected, it will be worth what we endured here!

Mrs. Jessica ** worked diligently with me for the past year to resolve this issue. I truly appreciate her assistance in resolving this issue. This issue was resolved by the company today. Thank you, Jessica.

    Original Review: June 10, 2020

Be very careful before signing into a solar lease with this company. I previously owned solar panels with a different company before purchasing this home and enjoyed the customer service experience and savings. That has not been the case with Vivint. I have been a customer with Vivint Solar for the past three years after purchasing a new home and signing the lease transfer for the existing leased panels (requirement to complete the home purchase). In that three-year window, I have had to work with Vivint to resolve system overproduction issues on two separate occasions.

I have a detailed record from the first instance from late 2017 in which the Customer Solutions Team/Service Support analyzed 12 months of utility bills, my utility company’s Schedule R, and the design/intended production for the system. After several months Vivint informed me that they would be turning off several of the panels on my roof to mitigate the overproduction and credited my account $383 in early 2018.

Two years later, my system spiked again (producing over 200% the system’s designed production). I called and reviewed the system production over the life of the system with the representative and we both could see in black and white the substantial spike in production over multiple months. These numbers are significantly higher than the first problem with overproduction in 2017. The first representative opened a case on 9 April 2020 and requested all of the same documentation required to have the system analyzed for overproduction. I had the information prepared and e-mailed it to him while on the same call. It has been two months without resolution.

I have contacted Vivint seven times via phone and have e-mailed multiple times to get this problem addressed as the bill continues to increase exponentially. My bill has gone from previous highs in the mid-$200 range to the most recent bills being of $308.26 followed by $725.05. I have asked repeatedly for a supervisor to call me from the team that is supposed to be analyzing the system overproduction, but I have never received a call or an e-mail addressing my overproduction.

Each time I call for an update I speak to a customer service representative, who are always very polite, but have no actual information on my case. One case was closed without any action so they opened a new case. Today’s customer service representative told me they reviewed the system and said it was communicating correctly, but that it was not evaluated for the actual problem of overproduction. Each follow-up call was supposed to “escalate” my problem and expedite the review, but nobody ever contacts me and I start the entire cycle over again with a new representative.

Each time I call for answers I am always told someone will contact you in 3-5 business days and it never happens and the analysis still has not been done. This is unacceptable and a scrupulous business tactic. I have provided the necessary documentation as well as the e-mail traffic in its entirety from 2017 documenting the overproduction issue on multiple occasions.

If the system for multiple months has far exceeded the 2017 overproduction numbers than it tells me that 1) there is clearly a problem that exceeds the previous issue. 2) The panels that were supposed to be off per their initial analysis to mitigate the overproduction are potentially no longer off. 3) The team has not reviewed the utility bills, schedule R, and previous e-mail data from their own team that I sent them regarding the 2017 issue.

If someone from Vivint is reading this, I will be posting this complaint on every site possible after being unable to get any resolution contacting you via phone and e-mail since 9 April 2020. Please look at the hard data available to you and resolve this system overproduction issue. Ignoring the data and continuing to charge me inflated prices as if the system is functioning as designed is unacceptable. Again, be careful before signing a lease as they have been extremely difficult to work with in resolving overproduction issues.

In September 2019 contacted Vivint Solar. In early September based upon a satellite image of my property Vivint proposed an agreement at $0.215 per KWH. I balked since that was only .02 cents less that National Grid. Based upon the assurance of the salesman that this was only a preliminary agreement -- that the on site evaluation would produce a significantly lower rate, I docusigned the $0.215 KWH agreement.

In early October the on-site evaluation did produce a significantly lower rate $0.135 per KWH. I docusigned the $0.135 KWH agreement as well as an acknowledgment of the oversize panel array. My signature on the oversize panel array acknowledgment, which benefits Vivint came through. Mysteriously my signature on the lower priced $0.135 KWH agreement, that benefits the customer, disappeared.

Now in spite of the Vivint salesman's statement that the $0.135 KWH agreement is the correct agreement Vivint is charging the ($0.215) higher rate. My suggestion that the $0.135 KWH agreement be signed is met with silence. A Vivint "Customer Care Specialist" who acknowledged the existence of the $0.135 KWH agreement. Who acknowledged that the $0.135 KWH was not a forgery and that the Vivint salesman was not cooperating in some scheme to defraud Vivint ended our confrontation by saying "If you cannot produce a signed copy of the $0.135 KWH agreement the matter is closed." The Vivint salesman has stated on several occasions that he will “get this fixed.” That he will see that Vivint “honors” the $0.135 KWH agreement. This has been going on since our first bill at the beginning of 2020.

We get promises from the salesman but nothing happens. One thing is clear from the Vivint “Customer Care Specialist” they have my signature of the higher priced agreement and nothing is going to induce them to honor the lower-priced agreement with the mysteriously missing signature. Only the Vivint salesman’s signature is there. In conclusion, Buyer Beware!!! If Vivint can they will!!

Some of our neighbors went with Vivint and they were happy with them. They recommended to the sales guy that we were new in the neighborhood, and they didn’t even want to check with us. When the guy proposed a couple of options, we really liked the option of not having to buy it going in. We’re on a purchase agreement for the power we use, so it gave us some flexibility that we didn’t have to shell out a bunch of money upfront and we could still get the benefits of lowering our bills with solar.

All the stuff, including the permits, got done right away. Vivint Solar was extremely efficient, but the process is a little slow in California. From the beginning until the end, the time we signed the paperwork and put the solar on was five months. We had to wait for PG&E to do their thing as well. However, Vivint didn’t build a big enough system originally. We have two residences on one property and we had to add a second system the next year. Vivint came right back in, did the second system just like the first, added it on and now, it’s up and running. It was the same five months, but it was not their fault. It was California and PG&E.

We still have a PG&E bill, but we only pay about half or less than half of what PG&E charges us per kilowatt. We live in Bakersfield, California, and typically, from May to October, it’s close to 100. Our PG&E bill for the air conditioners were running around 400 and $500 a month and we are now below 300 all the way, sometimes, even around 200. It has been a big difference.

We couldn’t afford APS, and we were retired. I'm 80 years old and I thought that if we went solar, we could save some money. We went with Vivint. Their customer service is great. The installers did a great job. The installation went really well. Since having our solar panels installed, we noticed a lower monthly bill. We’re at negative $45. APS owes us $45. We were on the average plan and we were paying $174 a month, but without the average plan, we would have been over 225. We've been saving money, and I’d recommend it. I just wish I could afford to just buy the solar panels and just pay it off. We pay $116 a month for the panels, which is better than 174, but if I had the money, I would pay them off. My wife and I both live on social security but we’re good other than that.

We’re very happy with everything. The whole process of getting our Vivint Solar installed was smooth. The people that worked with us were very informative. They take overpayments. Whoever buys the house is like taking over from LIPA or PSE&G. So there was really no downside. We’re paying into ownership. We didn’t buy it outright because we couldn’t afford to do that. At the time my daughter was going into college. I said, “Right now, we’re paying PSE&G around 200 a month budget. If it all could be done around that, maybe a smidge more, we could do it. If it was gonna be a lot more per month, then come back when she’s out of college kinda thing.”

We had 222.53 a month and then we got our tax break and instead of paying to PSE&G that money went to the paying for the system. And we’ve never had a problem with it. There was like two-month period where I got bills that were more than $12, $13. We pay roughly $13 and change a month. They were like 80 something and 50, but we had had like no sun. I had called to just see if there was a problem with the system, and they said, “No, we just hadn’t had a lot of sunlight.” So, we weren’t producing. But we’re back on track now. My last bill was like 13.21. I’m absolutely very happy with Vivint Solar. We needed a roof, and we thought that was gonna put us over what we could afford. But they had recommended a contractor. The guy came in, gave an estimate and with the roof included they still were able to come in at a number that was comfortable for us.

Their personnel were very professional. The installers came in and did not make a mess. If they did, they cleaned up after themselves. It was quick and efficient.

People should just do solar because it lowers the cost. I’m a paratrooper who’s not on active duty anymore. My mindset is a solution that doesn’t cause more problems is always nice to me. People really should go with Vivint because they’re an excellent company. They have been wonderful to deal with. I was referred to Vivint Solar by my friend, who is another client of theirs. She mentioned that she was getting ready to get Vivint Solar because an attorney that she knows did a lot of checking around and he has been satisfied with them. I figured that if it was coming from two people, it was better than none. It took about two months to get everything set up. It was done last year and I noticed my solar panels have been acting pretty good.

Vivint's enrollment process was pretty simple. They came out, checked out the house, and saw that we got plenty of sunlight so it would definitely work out. As far as customer service, everybody was terrific.

The installation was really quick. The guys who did it were here for one day. My daughter at the time was in elementary school, and they were wonderful. All we had to do is tell them, "Listen, I gotta walk her to school," and they were like, "All right." They stopped everything so that we could walk out safely and not worry about anything. They were done before she got home from school. We've had Vivint long enough. Our bill fluctuates because in the summer, we make more energy. So, we pay a little bit more in the summer sometimes, but it's better than it was when it's just with the electric company. All in all, I'm loving the fact that we have Vivint.

So my panels were ready to go around the end of December. As of now I’m still not getting anything out of my panels. I’ve made 3 payments so far to the loan company and got reimbursed for only 2 months. Vivint is now saying that it’s not there problem anymore since they had to go ahead to turn it on from my utility company. As of now they have changed the inverter and no production from the panels. I have a payment due again but now Vivint is saying that’s it’s not their problem anymore since it’s on but it hasn’t produced an ounce of energy.

I find it really funny how they are saying it’s not their problem anymore that it’s not working. They are trying to see what the problem is but this seems a little annoying that I’m still paying for a solar system that hasn’t worked since day one. My payment is 250$ a month and as of now April 24th 2020 I’m still paying for a system that’s not working. They refuse to reimburse me for the month of April since they say it’s on but not producing energy. I would think twice before going with this company. I’m kinda regretting going with Vivint.

I’m paying for a system that hasn’t worked since day one. And the customer service is horrible. Do your homework before you decide to go with Vivint. They said read the contract about the reimbursement. So now I have to wait for another technician to come out to see what the problem is. Now I still have a PGandE payment and a solar payment which I’m a little frustrated because of what is going on with this pandemic. Every dollar counts right now and I’m getting the runaround by this company since they refuse to take fault of the system.

Vivint Solar found me. I happened to be coming home from work one day and they were going door-to-door. I was already looking into going solar because I did so in California. We talked about it and they had a good deal. Compared to other companies, their offers were about the same. However, the customer service experience on most people’s behalf was better than other providers. The whole process took a month or two. In my case, it went pretty smooth. It was well-communicated through the company and the coordinator that was helping my case. When they finally came to do the installation, it took them a day and a half. It was a quick, clean, and well-thought-out installation. Nothing was flapping off the roof.

The only real problem I had with the whole process was, when it was finally okay to turn it on, I didn’t realize that they had put an extra breaker on top of the box in the main breaker that they had installed. When I turned everything on like I did in California, the system wasn’t actually charging. One of their technicians had to come out. He was like, “Yeah, we threw an extra circuit breaker in the main box. It’s redundant, but we do that because it’s a safety thing,” If it was a little bit better step-by-step process on how to turn their stuff on and then sync up everything, it would have gone smoother. But all things considered, it was easy. The system is producing what I expected it to produce. My bills have gone down, too. It’s really all I can ask for.

During the summertime with the AC running, I was like 400 bucks a month just on AC with my electric. It was 2016 when I got the solar panels. A few weeks back on March 25th, APS came out with Vivint and installed a new electrical panel. Before we could continue getting the system completed, the city had to in come out and inspect it... Apparently there was something they did not like because there is a red tag on the wiring. The process stopped again, As of today April 16th, there has been NO communication from the company or the sales representative about will be done to fix the problem so things can move forward. At this time, we cannot recommend going with this company, we do not believe they value their customers. Misleading the Elderly and Disabled. I wished I could say that this was a smooth process, and everything went according to plan but unfortunately there have been issues since the beginning. The contract / salesperson informed us that their needs to be internet connection, but nowhere does it state bandwidth requirements. The salesman consistently stated that this system would save us money as we live in the desert and the electric bill can get quite large during the summer months. Everybody in our home is on a fixed income either disabled or over 60 so we did not quite understand the documentation that was presented to us. We unfortunately believed that this system would save us money over the electric company but now that we have the system installed this system is so much more than the electric company (and we have to pay the electric company during night time hours).

After sending the documentation to our grandson all the information that was discussed verbally by the salesperson was unfortunately just sales jargon. We are currently paying $600 more per year than we were and with a 20-year contract. I'm 110% satisfied with going solar. My wife and I were telling my sister-in-law the difference in the bill as she was debating about getting solar. I had a bill that just came and I showed it to her and it was $240 cheaper than hers. The only time we did not get it was the system wasn't working for about four or five months and my bills were jumping up to 280.

But when Vivint Solar came in, they were getting ready to take parts out of the old one and try to replace those and I wasn’t too happy about that. The person that was working on it could tell. He called the boss to see if they could just replace this whole system instead of taking parts in and out and they did that. I still tell everybody this is the best thing going. They fixed it, the bills dropped back down, plus they said I had a credit ‘cause apparently it was still registering so that was a plus. It made me feel awesome and I wasn’t expecting it.

I’m satisfied with Vivint Solar. I’ve seen some differences. I did not go with the complete replacement system, like a full system. I just got something to manage the load during the peak hours. But sometimes I wish I would’ve gotten more but it’s a trade-off. It also took longer to get through the whole approval process than normal, but there were no issues.

I’ve had two times I’ve had to call in and it was handled very well. First was the modem changes on my part generated where I had to have them come out and reprogram the password for my router. They upgraded the box where they were using a modem device for a cellular connection now versus attaching to your own personal modem. So, I don’t have to worry about changing my password on my router anymore.

One other issue was I did have a load controller. When I first got the solar, it didn’t work the way I expected it to offset the load. I thought we’ll pull it from the solar first, and then pull what you need from APS. The way the load controller was set up, it was looking at the whole demand, not the demand that I needed to pull from APS versus a solar. So, I had to upgrade my load controller in order to work with the solar properly.

The process was very easy and I thought the people were fantastic, well-prepared, knew what they were doing, and very well-informed because there were quite a few different companies that were coming around our neighborhood in Connecticut. Even the day that they set up the appointment and the girl who came to see us, Karen, before she came, my husband said we were not agreeing to that day as what we'd usually do. But by the end of the day, we did it.

We've had it since around the beginning of December and I've been keeping track. It’s been three months to compare and I haven't seen a big saving. It’s the same as our regular electricity. It's hard to compare because of the situation of this year. Maybe it would be less ‘cause we’re home more and using more electricity. Whereas last winter, we were not at home a lot and we took trips. So, it’s not a true comparison and I think I have to do more. Overall, I’m happy because it’s green energy and probably, in the long run, we will be saving. It’s just really too soon to say.

I’ve been recommending other people to get Vivint that I now have a personal connection with their representative. When I went solar, I didn’t have to pay the amount out of pocket. Vivint does it based on homeownership and your credit score. That helps out because you have to qualify, but not to the extent of adding on top of your mortgage payments. Also, I like the customer service. So far, they’ve been very attentive to our needs.

We were initially told that if we got solar panels through Vivint Solar that we would be paying less then what our utility company charges and helping the planet by going green and that the panels were completely free to install and we also got a little bonus check for signing up with them. Sounded great... AT FIRST. When the bills started coming in we realized this was a huge mistake. First of all, our utility company PECO charges 6 cents per kWh, Vivint charges 13 cents per kWh and according to their contract it will increase yearly. Now I'm not a mathematician but clearly Vivint is NOT lower. We are also getting charged for both distribution and production through PECO and then getting a separate bill from Vivint for solar production. That's 3 bills. Also, only half of what we produced through the solar panels are being sent to the grid making it impossible to bank any extra on our utility bill. We also never received a battery backup to store extra production.

We have contacted Vivint Solar NUMEROUS times to have someone come out to explain what's going on and after months we hear nothing. So we decided to shut off our panels to get Vivint's attention. After 2 weeks we get an email saying they think something is wrong with our box and they want to come out to fix it. Someone comes out and we tell them that we shut it off and want answers to why we are getting triple billed. They say they will get a representative right away to come out. IT NEVER HAPPENED.

Now we have had our panels shut off since mid February and only produced 163 kWh for the 2 weeks we had them on (we have the app that shows our production for the month). We then receive a bill for $127.00 for the month of February and they said we produced a little over 900 kWh. Where the hell did this figure come from? We contacted billing (through emails of course) and all they say is they will forward our email to another department. We then received about 5 emails saying we are past due and still owe them $127.00. Now here's the kicker...we received a bill for March's production (which should be ZERO since the panels have been switched off since February). It says we produced another 900 plus kWh and owe $135.00 and still owe the $127.00 for February. WHAT?!?! How is this even possible?

Vivint Solar is great at hiring sweet-talking salespeople that could sell a popsicle to an Eskimo. They tell you basically lies to get you to sign up. Then after you receive your contract you realize you are stuck with them for 20 years starting at 13 cents per kWh and increases yearly. None of this was told to us from the salesperson and of course you can't disprove word of mouth. This company is a big bait and switch and trying to get someone to explain ANYTHING to you or even get a person to come out to discuss this is like pulling teeth. We realize how Vivint stays in business...they charge whatever they want on their bills and most people just assume it's correct and pay it. BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE!!!! Lastly, Vivint....when you read this review don't leave one of your generic responses to email your online reviews. We already did and also contacted other areas of Vivint to get this resolved. Vivint was in the area and liked what I heard and that’s how we chose them. They were reaching out to brand-new homeowners in our area. It was a lot easier to get their representative in and talk to them one-on-one unlike with the central office. It was harder to reach back to them due to timezone issues, but the local rep was very responsive. If I ever reached out to Jacob, he would get back to me within hours.

We started the process in July of ‘18, installed by third week of October. At the point where we moved forward and agreed on everything we were gonna do, and the design they submitted was 18 panels, they committed to doing the work. The visiting team, the construction crew then moved like a clock. They came in the morning, they secured the whole area with cones and yellow tape around the whole property. And they have their work zones. I cleared out a little bit of space in the garage so they could install the panel, the electricity thing on the inside and the outside. They worked really well. Within half a day they were up on the roof and finished. They were unbelievable. There were four guys, prompt, complete and clean. I took a walk around and there were no nails on the ground. It was pristine.

Our bills from August of 2017 through October of 2018 were cut in half by the time we put the electricity in place. Now that I had a full year of charting that, that’s how I can tell that it’s cut about 50 to 55% of our electricity bill. Meanwhile, this year, it’s two kilowatts a day better. In other words, if March was a 16-kilowatt average a day in ’19, this ’20 March we just finished with 18 kilowatts. We’ve had better sun but obviously, we’ve had a lot of snow, we’ve had colder weather so the bill dropped like 75% of our electricity bill.

With a $21,000 unit installation and with $7,000 of that coming off with a federal credit, one of it was a $1,000 check directly from the state of Maryland. I paid $13,000 for the panel. The fact that I have a wife and daughter who like it a little bit cooler in the summer and a little bit warmer in the winter, so if I would tell if we keep it around at 68. My daughter lives upstairs, and we did not have a huge, super hot time. She will occasionally and rarely once a month come down and turn the heat down or turn it up. But if she’s ever doing that, she can quickly make the adjustment. Vivint Solar is literally a 50% deal.

My son and his wife used Vivint Solar and we thought it would be a good idea to get the solar from them. If you have an electric car, an air conditioning, a swimming pool and a lot of other thing using a lot of electricity, that boils down to money. So, I wanted to look into a different option and solar was the one we chose to go with.

The sales agent was out for getting a sale but the enrollment process went smoothly. The people who put it in did a good job. They got it done on time and it worked out well. The only thing that didn’t go smoothly is our first year. We ended up with a true-up from PG&E and we didn’t know anything about that. By the time that was done, we paid almost as much in the true-up as we did for the year of service, which was about 600 and some dollars. Still, we’re satisfied with our decision. It’s an excellent way to go and our price arrangement has been very good. Our son had problems with his services though and he ended up going offline.

I feel like I'm doing my part to be green using Vivint Solar. During enrollment, there were so many calls, so many different people coming in and looking at different things, and then coming back and doing it again. And then they presented one plan and realized we can't do that plan so that we had to do another plan. It took so long to get all the approvals through our gas and electric company. Financially, there hasn't been any huge impact by any stretch, but it's fine. Everybody that I talked to was great.

The rep did a good job explaining the process and he was giving us good information. I'm satisfied with going solar but I'm kinda watching it because it doesn’t seem like it’s been that big of a change. It’s like PG&E price goes up and then Vivint will go down. Then if you add it all together, it seems like it averages out a little bit lower but not a whole lot. I called them because I needed to ask why was the price change not as good as they said it would be. They explained it to me the way PG&E works it. But they do better than I've seen PG&E do where about three months out of the year, it goes up as high as it gets when we were using PG&E as our only source.

A salesman Vivint stopped by and he was a good one. He sold the product and laid out all the facts to us. He was the one who did the job. They just delayed once, which was with my village, and that held me up for nine months. I was the first one in our village. They didn’t know how to write the permits and what was okay and what wasn’t with their codes. They took it by surprise. It was, “Oh, we don’t know if this is right” so they wrote the code around me and some other people who got theirs in before I got mine done because I was the example. But other than that, I was fine. The workmanship was done real good. I work construction and in equipment so I could see the type of work they did and it was all first-rate. I went online and I saw my February wasn’t much because it was covered in snow all the time, but I saw a difference in the electric bill. Let’s whip this thing out and see what this thing is gonna do. Right now, I’m satisfied.

I’ve always been interested in solar energy. I learned about it in school when I was going for an architectural degree. It was just waiting for the right time. It was just too expensive. Everybody I worked with was very professional, friendly, and knowledgeable. That’s why I went with Vivint. We talked to other ones before but they did not seem to understand what the whole principle was. I used to work in the power industry so I’m a little more knowledgeable than your average customer. My gripe was on the installation. One day the techs came and there were four or five inches of snow on the roof. I asked, “Are you sure?” They were up there for a few minutes and they came back down. “No. We’re going back.” “Yeah. It’s probably a good idea.”

Also, I wish there was a better storage solution at this point, but right now, a deal is what we got. But what I would like it for, when there are actual power outages, which usually happens at night and solar is not very good then. But other than that, so far, so good. The system is completely invisible. We didn't even know it was working until I started going online and saw it was generating power. I’m perfectly satisfied. We’ll see how the bills are when it starts coming in.

The application was more of just an application for Vivint to turn on the power, not where they ran a credit check. And then I waited 30 or 60 days for them to do that until I got into the house. And then, everything was turned on. Because I was in a different state buying my home, it was all done through the phone and email, like DocuSign. I was in Maryland and we were buying a house in California so it was definitely a challenge, but they were very good at that.

You learn so much. The great thing is they walked us through and told us many new things that we never would have thought of. They explain the whole leasing process to you. They explain the buying process to you so you can determine which one’s better for you. They let you know that with a lease, they come out and they repair everything because if your solar panels don’t work, they're not able to charge you. So, it’s on them, as long as you're leasing. If you own it and they don't work, you have to pay for somebody to come out and repair it, and then they would still back charge you for that time.

They're very informative and very good at informing me of what’s going on. They were great at their customer service and explanations. That was a huge plus. They told us upfront that it would be about 7 to 10 years before we even notice any true difference or that it has paid for itself. And at that point, I didn’t wanna have to pay for repairs on my own solar so I just leased it. The challenge is selling your house later on. I’ve only had solar for three months and so far, I’m very satisfied.

I kept all my emails and I have many reasons why I should not have this system on my house pushed on me last minute while closing escrow by vivint. My credit score was to low to get vivint but they sure want you to have it in this position of no return buying a house. They never explained anything. I was under duress by vivint and my electric quadrupled. They never did a year analysis. In the beginning they were very hard to get anything going like a year.

This company is just going to overcharge you for your solar as I have heard over and over and been a victim of. They should of did a review for us in the house after the other people moved out because I don't even use enough energy to get solar. I would of never even got solar in the first place. Don't use them. There are so many other choices. I hope a board member or president or ceo reads this and does the right thing. Take it down!

I also heard such bad things about going solar and what it does to your house when you try and sell it, so I hadn’t done it yet. A friend of mine recommended Vivint and this one seemed like there was no negative aspect of doing it. It didn’t seem like their program was one of those scam ones either. The girl that sold it to me was informative, kept on top of things and called to check in. They said it would take months, but I had my solar panels up and running within two weeks with the whole process. It was super quick. I was going on vacation and I was hoping it took longer. It looks good though and I’m satisfied.

I expected my first bill to be expensive, but my electric bill is 20 bucks and my Vivint bill is 20 bucks. I got them today and I’m thinking next month I’m gonna get a $1,000 bill or something somewhere along the line because that doesn’t add up. There must be something wrong with it. I know I generate more electricity than that. Vivint came out and the internet wasn’t connected, so they weren’t seeing the readings. Still, the girl that sold the system to me and the tech that came out were great.

Multiple months have been more than what I would have been billed by the electric company. In addition, I have been billed double what they normally charge for a month the system was offline with no rebate for the double charge.

In addition, the charge per Kwh is different for each month with no explanation as to why. I have had to call multiple times to find out why my charges are more than what I would normally get billed from the electric company and the different billing per kwh only to get the same "you get billed according to the amount produced." After multiple calls over multiple months, I have yet been able to speak to a supervisor or get an answer other than the statement above. Beware of their fradulent billing practices and very, very poor customer service in the billing department.

Original Review: I always thought going solar was great. Buyer beware!!!! I was told my bill would be cheaper than those with NV energy, but so far they have been twice what I would have paid. You pay for the solar electricity made, not what you use in the guise you get a rebate from the electric company. Not happening! Also, billing department is very rude and not helpful at all. Would NEVER recommend this company. Vivint Solar stated installation of panels would cut our electric bills in half: year to year eleven month comparison shows an increase of about $48. Certainly no savings; according to supervisor there is not a guaranteed saving for any customer. Company stated could not add panels as Nevada Energy would not allow for one year (their analysis when I called several months ago in regards to my energy bill showed I needed additional panels); called NV Energy and found we could add or upgrade whenever; called company back and was told they would submit paperwork to install additional panels; panels NOT installed and was told today will not add per company policy until installed one year (3 weeks from now).

Representative refused to allow me to speak to a supervisor then stated she would speak to them and see IF they would talk to me; then placed on hold for 8 minutes. Now attempting to sell home and have 2 offers fall through because it is Vivint Solar. Cost to pay off potential energy through end of contract $14000 plus; taking with us is not an option as takes about 10 months for all approvals to get through and we have to pay to move. Feel Vivint Solar used false advertising and statements to persuade us to sign with their company. Purpose of complaint is to make you aware of poor customer service; shady sales tactics, and lack of general false business tactics in order to gain a customer base.

The enrollment was very easy. The sales rep walked me through everything and everything was communicated via email and everything was electronic signature, which made it super convenient. So, it was never a hassle to do anything during the process. The installers were great too. They were a lot of young energetic guys, all of whom were polite and very professional.

There were a lot of hoops to jump through before production though. I gotta get approval through the actual electric provider and gotta get all kinds of certification numbers. It was all explained in the beginning though. I knew what to expect and I knew it wasn't gonna be three weeks and I'd be good and selling solar. Still, I love the idea of producing solar. I bought my panels and didn't lease them so the objective was to pay Vivint off as soon as possible. Now, I have a cash well coming in, which is a no-brainer for me. This woman had just gotten solar panels so I asked about it and I got Vivint. I called them and going from there, that’s how we decided. The salespeople came out and talked to us about it and gave us our options. They were very nice and everything was great. It took a little bit longer than I had anticipated to get everything set up, but we have a pretty large system because of the amount of energy that we use. At first, when the people installed it and we had the inspection, it didn't pass, so they had to drop new plans and go back to the whole city bureaucracy thing. But it was still smooth.

There was a fellow from Vivint Solar and he came knocking on our door. He turned out to be our salesman and we’ve been with Vivint for about three years. Installing the solar energy service was a two-phase operation. They put on a certain number of cells on the front part of the roof at the very beginning and then, more recently, once we had the solar panels, they added more to the roof.

Our roof, where the panels get mounted, is aligned with the Southern exposure. Something was put on the north end initially because at the time, there was a regulation that said that you don’t wanna put solar panels on the side of the roof that doesn’t get exposed to the sun that much during the day. But now, the new ones are more sensitive and can be put on northern-exposure roofs so that we could benefit during the months where the sun is high in the sky. It will hit the solar panels and it’ll generate electricity whereas the original ones that were put on the southern exposure are not as sensitive. They're the older ones so they still generated the electricity because they're on the south side and exposed to the sun more months of the year. But with the more sensitive ones, they changed the law and you can now put them on the north side.

For the most part, the customer service was very good although I didn't get answers right away. When they installed the second set of panels, it took a long time for something to get approved by the local government and I tried to get the questions answered by emailing a contact that I had from Vivint. Other than that, it worked out fine. They send the notifications by email and they explain how you can interpret the bill so that was nice.

Vivint has already been installed in the house I bought and I've been happy with it. But getting everything turned on for me took a little bit of time. I went through PG&E and they'd come out and check it. We finally got all that squared away and it had been working since. I like the solar production and I see the difference on the PG&E bill. The reps are easy to get ahold of too.

I was already wanting solar, but I never looked into it. It just happened that Vivint was the first company to approach me with it, so I went with them. I was with John the whole way. He kept me abreast of everything. We talked and texted and kept each other in contact. Everything was simple and self-explanatory. I have been using it for three months now and my bill is a lot lower than I expected it to be. That's the only difference I see compared with the regular electric provider. It made sense to me.

The salesman said that our neighbor was doing solar across the street. He had to come back a few times for me to talk to him. Then he talked to me a little bit about him being military. He seemed like a trustworthy guy. I looked up the Vivint Solar and thought that I'd give it a try. I haven't seen my first bill yet. It took a while for PG&E to release it. I had to contact Vivint a few times to find out what was going on. After I contacted our salesperson and then another number that I had, they finally figured out that somebody had dropped the ball. I don't know if it was on PG&E side or if it just wasn't being released.

But they finally got it going when I notified them that nothing had been turned on yet. After that, it took another three weeks for them to release it, and then they sent me the instructions on how to turn the thing on. I was looking at the wrong meter so I had a problem. But after I figured that out, it was easy. They got back to me right after I fixed it. The people were very nice at the installation as well. I have the app so I see how much I'm saving or collecting. We'll see.

Solar had already been on my mind. The idea that I’m not having to purchase it outright, that Vivint is in ownership and maintenance of it, and their programs, were what allured me to get it. The enrollment process was pretty straightforward. I’m knowledgeable in the construction and movie industry so the guy was quite surprised at how many questions I had regarding the whole thing. I’m not a very high use consumer of electricity, so at first I was a little concerned that it wasn’t the benefit of putting stuff on my roof so I stepped away from it for about a month, and then had another conversation with them about the whole process.

They were pretty clear about the timeframes and what they needed out of me, having somebody there, which worked out for my schedule. I had to reschedule one time ‘cause nobody was gonna be there and that ended up not being a problem. They were quick to come up with a second date. On one of their dates, their technician had a longer day at the previous installation, so they called and said they weren’t gonna be able to make it that afternoon and rescheduled quickly for the Saturday after that. It went really well. They were accommodating. In California, all homes built from 2020 and on have to have solar installed by the builder, so everybody is getting solar. It’s all part of taking part of the electrical load off of the system being overloaded at times because there are so many new homes being built in California. The way I see it, we’re helping in that way.

The enrollment process was quick and easy, and Vivint's part of the installation was great. I talked to Vivint Solar people during the first week of October and they installed the equipment in the first week of December. It was gonna be earlier than that but it rained out here and they had to delay the installation a week. But NV Energy took forever and ever to finally inspect and certify it. It was almost a six-month process. People considering solar energy should be prepared to be very patient. They should be prepared for a long wait, at least in the state of Nevada.

The Vivint Solar salesman came to our door and we figured that a solar energy system is a better way of getting energy, not to mention cheaper. We went for it and we were satisfied with the decision. However, the enrollment was a little bit rocky ‘cause they wanted the roof redone, and that took three times longer than it was supposed to. Our installation was delayed by a good month and a half. The installing of the solar panels themselves went real smooth except for a couple of things. They did the drill through and bust the water pipe so we had a leak. There were also a couple little things more that we had asked them to do that they didn’t do like not to make the nails stick out, and so it was a little bit of a struggle all in all.

The people who came here seemed really nice and friendly. But with the salesman, I’m not sure if I’m real happy with him. He promised us some rebates but we haven’t received it yet. And he wouldn’t answer my phone calls after the installation especially since I had a question I needed to ask about billing. Other than that, the installers were good and they did their job.

Enrolling with Vivint Solar was fabulous. But the major problem was that when the panels were not registering, there was no way for me to know without going online and checking everyday. I have solar panels on two of my homes, so that's a lot to ask for. One of their reps told me that it's my responsibility to go look online all the time, and I should look once a day for both accounts. He was quite arrogant, too, and that's what pushed me to reach out to Vivint. They were immediately responsive and they cleared things up. The system was down for about four months so I lost a lot of energy. They gave me a credit for those four months, though, and they have put my account on a periodic check to make sure that's okay.

We had an issue where we didn’t start using it for a while because my internet was out. But once I got all that taken care of they were able to get it going. We have already noticed a small difference. Going with solar I like the idea of helping the environment.

As we talked to the company number of times, the program quit for about six weeks when we were away from the country but no one knew. Their system did not report that the solar system stopped working. The company did not know about it. So they mostly forgot what it was. But our general impression was that the people in the field and the people in the head office were in disarray. The management in the area didn’t work. It made an impression of a chaos. We were frustrated. It took Vivint Solar about two months to get it working because the people who came here reported that it was not working, and someone else did not know about it, like there was no communication within the company. At one point, we thought that the company was going bankrupt. It really was not good and we lost money.

While it was not working, we had to pay Pepco instead of having this solar power. Nobody reimbursed us for it because their systems were not working. We could not prove that it was not working because they did not know about it. It was really disappointing and very upsetting too. There was no way of talking to anyone. There were times we had no one to talk to. We called their number and for weeks, there was no answer. I was trying to cook, make laundry and iron when it was sunny, but it was for nothing. All that I could have done it at night because there was no power. We are very dissatisfied with them. We would not recommend Vivint Solar to anyone.

The Vivint sales rep was great. He goes above and beyond. He still texts to check in on us to make sure we got our permits on time and to tell us what the next step was. He made it easy. The enrolment was kinda lengthy and extremely crappy. And I was a little disappointed with how the tax refund goes. That was done in such a manner that they leave you to believe that you are getting a tax refund right from the government to help assist in paying back toward the loan but in all reality, you do not. That's my main complaint. They're advertising this 30% cashback before the end of year and that is not the case at all. On my tax refunds, I got no money toward going solar. My main cost was $38,785 which is a big investment towards my home, but yet I get no credit for it whatsoever.

Also, for the first few months, they're telling you that after the solar panels are put on, "Okay, they're charging. Go outside and turn them on." Then I got an email instructing me how to do that, which was not complicated, but I'm still getting electric bills and my solar panels have been on for a couple of months. So, they're not very forthcoming about that process either. For the last two months, I've paid an electric bill and I'm paying the solar panel payment. As of right now, I'm way in the red with the whole solar panel process because it was not described to me in that way. There was a lack of communication. When they come out, it's more of a sales pitch type deal, which I get. But I have signed on for a loan for $38,000 just to go solar and I've been struggling to make both of these payments and was never told that I would be making two payments.

Everything was scheduled and I did not have to follow up on anything. They are very prompt in this one thing. They had to cancel one appointment since the panels were not there in time, but even for that, they were prompt in updating me. So overall, I would highly rate them.

It took two months until I was producing solar energy from the time of the sign up. The full information on how much energy will we produce and how it is compensated by the electric company, however, is little bit confusing. It was not very clear to me. The solar energy which is produced is not paid for and it is deducted from your bill, and then they have an early billing cycle. That whole process was a little complicated. So, more explanation on that should be useful in understanding what we are signing up for.

Apparently, the case manager thought that our borough was going to send that inspection notice over, where in turn, our case manager at Vivint had to call the borough to get the inspection notice to be able to move forward to have our meter and everything all changed out. So, that took about four weeks. That was the only thing I was a little disappointed in because my panels were up since the 1st of November, and it took till the 24th of January to physically be able to turn it on.

I also called the township to find out, and it took me two minutes on the phone with the borough telling them, “Why did not you send over that final inspection notice?” And they said, “Well, we cannot. They need to call us.” This was a learning experience for Vivint because I do not see many people going through Vivint here in South Jersey. Nevertheless, I am up and running now. I got my first electric bill from last month, and I saved $90.

The salesman I had was with another company and he switched and suggested that I switch too. So, I did. I kinda liked the salesman. Then I looked up Vivint and it looked like a good company. Three guys came and did the installation. They had great attitudes and were very friendly, respectful and cleaned up after themselves. The installation was awesome. I have a flat tile roof and when they were done, they saved the tiles and put them aside for me. So, that part was great. The only downside I have right now is to monitor with the app they have. It's not working. I had to call them a few times, and it shouldn't been that way. I talked to my salesman over there and I told him that I need him to help me out with this because it's getting annoying. He's trying to help me out right now. They need to make the app work.

I've already seen my electric bills gone down. The installation was in January 3rd. So, it was almost in the beginning of the year and I have a credit already which is great. After the installation, I went to our Sam's Club in Chandler and Vivint Solar was also in there, so I've made the right choice. I work for Walmart and it's hard to get into Sam's Club and Walmart. So, Vivint Solar did something right with somebody.

Vivint had a guy walking in our neighborhood who was going door-to-door that was offering a solar system. I had him come back a couple of times and I had him give me as much information as possible. Then, I went and did my research. But because I have a Vivint alarm system, I was familiar with Vivint. What really stood out was the rate that Vivint offered me which was pretty competitive. I also liked the fact that they made it easy that I could get solar compared to what it used to be a couple of years ago. It’s a lot easier today to get solar than it was five years ago. However, the guy got on me to ask me who I knew or to who I could refer. Unfortunately, I don’t know a lot of people in my neighborhood so I was unable to refer any customers. He was a little bit pushy. But I understand the sales business because I've done it.

The enrollment process was nice. It was just that I had to go through the hoop's rings of filling out a bunch of forms then we had to wait for the approval. There should have been better coordination between the businesses and the government entity. I felt like the government entities weren’t acting quickly enough to do their jobs and that was part of the delay. The installers knew what they were doing. I felt comfortable with their professionalism. The only complaint that I had was towards the end, there were some things that they weren’t completely thorough on and I had to have them come back and fix it up again. But other than that, I felt that they did what a typical installer does. They even took a picture with my wife and I next to the system and that was fun. We got the first bill this month with the solar. It seems that I have to pay $20 which is good, but I won’t know if I'm still gonna pay the electric bill with Edison.

A Vivint salesman came through our door and we liked how they were willing to work with us. They also gave us the right information that we needed to make the decision. All the paperwork was great as well. Then we got the roofing part done pretty much in 30 days and that was excellent. But after that, the installation happened from about August until two weeks ago, which was way too long. I was expecting that once the roof was on, perhaps two months would be the longest from that point because I know they had to have the city come back and inspect everything before they could turn it all on. But between signing off with the city and coming back, the ball got dropped several different times. The salesman always checked in with us and he was surprised things hadn’t happened and that we weren’t turned on yet.

And now, Edison sent me a bill saying that I'm using their service. But I told them that I don’t use their service anymore and I have solar energy to use now. So, I want to let the solar people come and put the power on the system for me. I tried to call the guy who introduced me to solar and the first time I talked to him, he said he was traveling to Africa. Reviewed Feb. 10, 2020

Going solar seems to be something that we should be doing for the nation because of fossil fuels. And the tax credit was a big incentive for us to go ahead and do that to help offset the cost of it. A Vivint Solar salesman came to our door. He was a really nice person and the pricing was better. We had checked with Sunrun and they were really proud of their product. So, we had been thinking about it for a while, and we just felt the Vivint sales rep really presented himself well and we figured we’d go with Vivint. The product and the layout was great. They called us. Somebody hadn’t gotten their final approvals with Xcel. And they installed us really early and that went really well. And then, everything just stalled out. There was a lack of communication between Xcel and Vivint.

Xcel said it was Vivint and Vivint said it was Xcel, that they had a problem uploading a form into the Xcel system that I kept calling on. Vivint people said, “We’re working on it. It’s in.” But it was not. We’ve called Xcel. So, the first line people were very annoying. I needed to talk to someone else because they were just telling me what they thought they knew, but they were not researching it. The second line that we got was really good but I could never get to him. Every time I called in, I got these people that didn’t read the account and the follow-up was really lost in translation.

We were finally installed at the end of September. This whole thing with Xcel and Vivint, and the portal not working, were irritating. Vivint Solar installed it the beginning of September, and then Xcel came out in December and put some meters in. But they never finished up the permission to operate. I kept calling and all of a sudden, Xcel came out again and put in another meter. And we got the permission to operate from Xcel, but it never got to Vivint. Somebody in the back door somewhere had to do something. It was the end of January when we finally were up and running. But we still have an error on our meter that says it’s a four. Supposedly, somebody from Vivint was gonna come out and look at it. And I haven’t heard from anybody again. We were very excited about getting solar and being more green, and Xcel wasn’t really excited about losing another customer that they're not gonna be able to bill $175 a month in the winter.

I seriously think that if something was gonna get screwed up on an account it was gonna be ours. But they've made it right so far. I’m a little frustrated that no one communicated with us on this error that keeps flashing on the production meter. Now, we did have to pay on it for two months without it even generating energy. Supposedly, they were gonna offset that because the deal was once it got set up and was generating power, we were supposed to start paying. But because of the craziness with Xcel, we went into payment before we were generating power. Supposedly, somebody was to go make that payment. So, we decided we’d just go ahead and do it because we didn’t wanna extend it out another two months on the repayment for the loan stuff. But it didn’t feel great.

Some of Vivint's customer service people were really good, kind and tried to figure things out. But others, you'd just hang up and call back. Overall, I’m satisfied with Vivint. If they’ll come out and give me an answer why this error code’s flashing on my meter, I would be much more satisfied. We’ve been in this system for the last two weeks. However, I would like an answer on that. The root cause of the issue was not Vivint from the information I’ve been able to get from Vivint and then the experiences with Xcel. A lot of the problem was Xcel because when the guy from Xcel showed up and ran the doorbell, before my husband and daughter could get to it, the guy went around our back yard. So, our dogs were at the back door, wanting to go out because there was a stranger in the yard and that scared him.

Also, Xcel people were like, “But we don’t send this, we don’t do that.” And Vivint was saying that they have to give it to them. There was a disconnect and I was caught in the middle. Vivint needs to figure out a better working relationship with Xcel and Xcel needs to inform their people. They had a conference call scheduled with Xcel and Xcel never made it. Then, our problem was elevated up to that level. It was two more weeks before they could talk to them about the portal issue. So, that wasn’t Vivint's fault. I was ready to call the state PUC and complain about Xcel. I’ll take a day off from work and I’ll raise hell and get an answer because I am done.

Enrolling with them was easy. The installation was easy as well. They did everything and I just had to be home to unlock the gate. They were always very timely, too. If they said they were gonna be there, they were there. But in December, when APF came to do their thing and gave their okay, the switches didn't get turned on right away like we thought. So we got billed in January.

Somebody from Vivint came out because he said he can monitor things on his computer. He said that our switches weren't on, so he turned them on. This was at the end of January, so now we've got power. But so far, we haven't seen any change in the APF bill because for a month, we weren't getting anything because the switches were off. I called our sales rep and he said he called Vivint so that we could get a credit. He said that in the next couple of months, we'll see a credit for the month of January. Other than that, we're very satisfied with Vivint and the whole experience has been good. We also love our salesperson because he's been there every step of the way.

The appealing part was my house is almost 20 years old and according to him my roof probably needed to be replaced, and that was where the panels were installed. So they realized that my roof was good enough for the house and the trees around the home also and the trees are still there. The installation was a smooth turnout. I was told that the process was the quickest he had seen. But I was checking out that there was no production being done. The sales pitch of Vivint Solar that really got us thinking was the concept of trading our current electric bill for a payment on a solar system that would eventually go away and we would no longer have an electric bill. The enrollment process was relatively easy. They walked us through the building of the system and showed us where they would place the panels. The only thing they asked for was a copy of the most recent energy bill. With Virginia’s metering policy you have to swap 100% for solar for what you use. You can’t go above that. They kind of explained that, but I had to go back and do more research to understand what he was trying to explain.

But any questions that we had they answered. They did a pretty good job of answering our follow up questions. We didn’t end up going with Vivint Solar the first time because our HOA wouldn’t allow solar panels on the fronts of houses. I had to fight to get on the board to make that possible. So, over the past year, we basically made changes within the HOA guidelines that allowed homeowners to have solar panels on the front of their homes. The return on investment isn’t quite how we thought it would be. I’m having some difficulty getting Vivint to release ownership of the inverter to me. Since I purchased the system it’s technically mine. But for whatever reason they're telling me they can’t release ownership of the inverter to me. And I don’t understand why.

I’ve been in touch with my sales rep and he’s trying to get some answers. But it’s basically been a process for the last past months. It’s important they understand that right now they don’t own the inverter, so they won’t get the level of detail from the production of the system that originally wasn’t talked about. But through other vendors, I did get the information that the information is available. And they kind of hide that information. I have a sneaky suspicion that they don’t wanna give up ownership to the inverter because it allows them to make sales to the power companies on behalf of the owner. I believe whoever owns the inverter has the ability to set up the S-racks. I believe that’s what they intend to do but I have no evidence of that.

Everything is great with Vivint Solar. I knew all about solar. It was something that I always wanted to get into and I'm trying to get my entire family and a lot of different friends to go down that road. I tried the energy, the grid and trying to reduce the pressure and the whole going green. A sales guy from Vivint was going through in my neighborhood trying to get people to pay attention to solar. I saw him and he came by at the right time expressing to me about solar energy. He talked in detail and explained to me everything, and I understood. He was very precise, understanding, and a nice person to deal with that was why I decided to go with him.

I told him to give me two days to think about it. I looked up the company and made sure everything was legit on what he was saying. I invited him back and he came. I’m a very straightforward person, so I need to know the fact. Don’t tell me it’s gonna be for two weeks and it’s for six months. You tell me exactly what it's gonna take, when it’s gonna take, and he did that. During the course of what he was explaining to me, I believed in what he was saying. Every part he explained to me was true. He explained if certain steps were not met, I would not be able to get it, and I understood that. He said if the house was not ready for that, as far as the city requirements, that was out of his hands. He really made that totally clear to me. The timing was not gonna be a month thing. So, I had no problem with the general timing of what everything took.

Another thing Vivint did was they emailed me and told me every process, and they invited me to talk to anybody and call if I have any question with anything. I actually felt comfortable to do that. I didn’t have to call to do it because I really understood what was going on. They also gave me the website so I could do my thing on my own.

We recently bought our house, which was contracted with Vivint Solar. Solar energy services saves money, which made me interested on it. The customer service reps were great and very informative. A gentleman from Vivint came to the door. He was down-to-earth and we liked his way of talking to us. So far, my decision to go solar has been good although it took three months to get active due to the paperwork not being right. But if there was something that needed to be done, the reps came out and got it done, such as the painting of the conduits. We have other companies here that put other systems in for people, and I didn’t like their systems because they were too big. Ours is a nice, small system and you don’t see it on the side of the house. They put it where we wanted it, and then they painted everything like it was supposed to be. When the bill came in this time, I was a little confused by it, so we ended up calling the customer service at Vivint Solar to understand why we weren’t being charged anything and there was a minus on it. So, that made us happy.

I don't like Vivint Solar. What's the explanation that we only have to pay $25 to $30 to the electric company? Why is our bill high? They said we're not in the old school but in the smart program. But I don't know what's going on. I wanted Rob from Vivint to come and explain to me and my husband. It's defeating what was explained because it's totally different. I've been with Vivint since October. How come I'm still paying a lot on the electric and I'm paying for Vivint Solar too? We wanted more panels, so we don't really have to pay for the electricity on that part. I understand that we still gotta be connected to the electricity. But the total combined comes out to what we used to pay.

One of the maintenance persons came out there just to see what's going on with the solar. He was supposed to get back with us if there is anything wrong with the solar. The electrical company told me, "There's an up time and a down time that it's gonna be connected. From this time to this time, you're gonna be charged," or something like that, "for the electricity." I said, "Oh, so, why do we have this solar? And it's super hot. They said the system is up for maintenance. The maintenance guy asked me and my husband, "Are you guys using a lot of the AC or air conditioner?" I said, "The same amount of what we usually do. We just use it."

We inherited Vivint Solar when we bought the house. We had an upgrade to the house, and then we had it installed on another house too. The customer service was really bad. And they need to improve their organization and communication. They came out unannounced to my house. They also knocked on the front door of a couple of properties that we Airbnb when we had guests. They would say that I was notified when I have never gotten notified. That happened about six times in a row. But once we got escalated up to a regional sales rep who had the best interest in what we were doing, everything turned around. It was awesome dealing with him. I'm happy with the program I'm in. The power purchase agreement makes sense to me and it's definitely saving us money beyond SDG&E. We're cutting costs by at least 50% overall and doing it at 55 cents here every month.

I've had Vivint Solar service since September. But this month, we weren’t that satisfied. We had a very large bill from Eversource, but we figured it out with them. Unfortunately, we didn’t have a lot of sunshine, so we didn’t make a lot of energy. Vivint is a very easy company to work with. I’ve been following solar for a while and Vivint is very well known. So, I was already very familiar with the Vivint name as with most people, and my wife and I had been talking about putting solar panels on our house for a while. But then, when Dan, one of my wife’s best friends’ son, told us that he was selling for Vivint, we took it as a sign from God. So, Dan came over to our house and sat down with me. He had a very sophisticated model that he put together to model out the actual cost and the benefits of going solar. What he put together was very impressive and you can tell that he’d been in the electrical industry for a while. So, he really understood what he was talking about which I thought was a good thing.

The Tesla folks were very nice, too, but their salespeople didn’t have the deep understanding of not just solar, but Virginia Power, which is in our area and who we work with. But Dan really had an understanding on what the rates looked like and how we were gonna see them go up. Pretty much everything he said was spot-on as well. So, we signed up with Vivint Solar and the installation was impressive. It took place over one day, which was fascinating. They put up 42 panels, which is a nontrivial number of panels, and they got them all up, installed, and wired in one day. Then we had to get the county to come out and do their inspection, so it took time.

Also, initially, the system wasn’t reporting out any energy used and it took a little while to get somebody to come out and reboot it so we could get the production numbers. But they’ve been responsive and to Dan’s credit, when I called, he was the one that got their guy to come out. The guy came on a Sunday, which was his day off, to do the analysis and reboot, which was impressive. Other than that, we have one dead panel or a panel which is not reporting in. So, we’re still waiting to see on that one. They’re supposed to send someone out the next week or so to take a look at that panel.

When somebody from Vivint Solar called me and asked me to go through how to turn in on was when I discovered that it had been turned on. When the net meter was brought, I wasn't home but it has been working perfectly.

Also, Vivint Solar told me to put a credit card online and charged my account, but I'm not sure if I was charged for my bill. I have not received any letter from them to show me my bill and what my solar has been generating. They need to communicate all that so that I can document it. I wanted to reduce my bill and according to what I was told, going solar is cheaper and effective. And ever since I've had solar, I've never had any problems.

When we took out the solar with Vivint Solar, we told them that we weren't gonna do anything electronic, like automatic withdrawals from our accounts, and they said they could work with that. When I made my first payment, they sent a notice to us saying that we didn't pay our bill because they went through electronically with some kind of a number and the bank refused it. So we had to set up an automatic account. I told them from the very beginning that I was not going to do that, and they said, "Per your agreement." But on the agreement, we told them right off the bat at the very top that we were not going to do anything like that because we don't have internet.

We don't want to do anything electronically through our bank because our paydays are never the same, and we're on social security, and we're broke from one payday to the next. So I didn't want to have anything taken out because there probably wouldn't be anything there. We didn't want that problem. I told them that I would pay them by mail. But I haven't contacted them in regards to this again. I sent them the check and I haven't heard anything. This month, another bill will be coming due, and it's gonna go by check. I'm not doing automatic withdraw. Either that or they lied to us. But their reps are pretty friendly. My only concern is the gal who we always get is foreign and you can hardly understand her. And that always annoys me when you can't understand the person you're talking to.

Because that has always been a big turnoff to me as not getting our money back for the investment. The enrollment process was much easier than anticipated. Every time I had a question, their reps answered very quickly and thoroughly. I’ve had very positive experiences. So far, I’m very happy with my decision. I’m not really seeing too much as far as savings, but I understand it’s wintertime so I expected that. But I’m looking forward to spring and summer when I assume that the panels are gonna do their job.

The installation of the panels was a great experience. The installers were all very professional and very nice. They were careful not to ruin anything and they cleaned up when they were done. Everything went smoothly. The sales rep was great even after the solar panels have been installed for a few months now. My experience with Vivint Solar is fine. It’s working. However, because of the shorter days, and also, bad weather, I’m not getting as much power as I know I will get in the spring and summertime. But I haven’t had any problems other than early on. Prior to the installation, that took like a long time because their salesman originally came out back in May. And then, there was a series of visits because I didn’t know anything about the process or how they calculate the rates. So, I had somebody that I knew that already had solar panels come out and we had a three-way meeting. So, there were several calls back and forth with the rep.

He had promised that they would be up by August, and then September but they weren’t installed until the last week of October. It was a long time between the initial visit and the actual installation. And then, they were installed, but the meter hadn’t been turned on, so I wasn’t getting any benefits from that yet. So, that took a couple of weeks before they came out and turned them on. It was a long process, longer than I had been told or they anticipated. Also, early on, the app wasn’t working, so the meter wasn’t sending signals to the company. But they sent a technician out and he fixed whatever needed to be fixed.

I also had to call corporate office once in the very beginning of the installation. They broke a railing off my deck during the installation. But I reported if right away and they told me what to do. I got a contractor to come out and give me an estimate. I called them and told them what the amount was. And since it was a reasonable amount, they sent me a check and I had it fixed. I definitely don’t regret installing them. And fortunately, they were installed at no cost because of my lower income. If I had to do it over, I would. I would definitely recommend it.

I asked to speak to his Legal Department and stated that they are not available to speak and again no Manager there is available to speak to. Then when I threatened to put his name on CA and BBB which this is the beginning, all of a sudden there was someone to speak to.... I looked up the chain of Command here at this being SUED, Pathetic, Deceiving company and there is so much more people under the CEO and COO to speak to in filing a formal complaint.

So after I threatened, all of a sudden this guy Aaron, stated, "Well let me get you over to someone to speak to." The new guy Alfonse, has not even responded and again, I repeat, this company sucks, never a manager available to speak to or able to take a complaint. I AM PUBLICLY REQUESTING A CALL FROM EITHER A CEO OR COO TO TAKE CARE OF THIS SITUATION. Right now, this company is a bunch of cheating, lying and misleading company, I DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE GETTING Vivint Solar!

Original review: Sooo.... where do I start? I had to mandatory buy into this company as I bought a new home. This company, since the start of switching over and getting my information about the solar panels and so on regarding the account has been disgusting. The Customer service to this company completely blows. Half the staff I cannot understand (don't speak proper English, sounds like I am in India). The four times I have called and requested to file a complaint or speak to a manager, I was denied speaking to any authority. A manager is NEEEEVER available!!! The customer service reps state that no manager is available to handle my complaint or formal complaint.

I am beyond disgusted with the quality of service, customer service and transfer of service of ownership. If possible I would cancel their service. AS A MARINE VETERAN, I wouldnt even rate them a star. This is how pathetic the company is and if I could cancel my service to them I would!!! I would never recommend this company to anyone at all. They claim to have 24/7 customer help. Yet on holidays they are closed and do not have any technical support available. But they do have someone available to sell you a whole system (A SALES REP IS AVAILABLE! BUT NO 24 HR HELP).

Please people do not hire this company to put a solar system on your roof. You will regret it!!! 100% disappointment!!!! For the "customer service" representatives that "helped me", they all should be fired!!! I guess this is what a marine veteran has to deal with a turd company, for all the sacrifice we have dealt with. Right. Thumbs down to Vivint Solar!! I do want a phone call back from a manager, not a service tech. Beyond disappointed!

I was told that there was confusion between PSEG Long Island and Vivint upon information that was required and that took another month. I finally got a notice from PSEG that everything was okay and that it would be turned on. Then I got a phone call from a representative of Vivint that had no idea what was going on. I told him that I had received something from PSEG and that everything was okay, and he was telling me it would take another 45 days in order to turn it on. At which time, I got a hold of the sales rep and I sent him a copy of the letter that I received from PSEG. He contacted someone at the company, and lo and behold, it was turned on the next day. So, I was a little upset.

Nonetheless, the sales rep Tom did everything that he possibly could every time I called him. Also, the gentlemen that did the installation were absolutely fantastic. The State of Massachusetts gives you a check and Mass Save gives you a check if you go solar. So, it doesn't matter what your tax status is. But the federal government, which gives you the biggest amount of money for going solar, gives you a tax credit and that is naturally only good if you trigger having to pay federal taxes. If you don't have to pay federal taxes because you're retired and you haven't enough things to claim between medical and mortgages, you don't trigger any taxes, so you can't use the credit. So, that's a real bummer and that's one thing I don't like. I would have bought my own panels because then I could've, by now, paid them all off and I'd be getting money from what the panels make.

But as far as Vivint goes, it was a better solution for me to have them put the panels up. And they own them. Now I just have a fixed rate for my power, and when you're retired, it's nice to know that it's pretty much fixed for budget purposes. My bill can go 2.5% percent a year, but they haven't really gone up that much at all. Recently, the state has allowed the solar companies to add more of solar power on the electric. It would go to about 80% to 90% of your total annual usage and they let you use more. So, Vivint came this last June and July, and they put up nine more panels on my house. I had the other ones on the garage, so they had more room to put more panels on the house.

The local part of Vivint was very good and the contractors did very good work. They were prompt as well and came when they said they were gonna come. The quality of the panels is 5-star, too. But I've had a little bit of a problem with their main office out in Utah. When you deal with them out there, you're dealing with people that seem to be Hispanic mostly and some of their accents are very hard to pick up. They talk a little quick as well and when they called, my wife transferred the phone to me. I was able to slow the person down a wee bit and get through the accent. But they were polite and professional.

Still, the Utah Main Office out there is slow and it took a long time for them to get things done. When they needed to add nine more panels on my house, I got that approval back in April of 2019. But the panels didn't go on until about July. It was probably because I had to fix my roof though. I had some shingles that were loose and I had to fix that, so that was not their problem. But then they came right up in July. They put the panels up and they were done. But I never was able to turn these panels on until December because of paperwork.

The paperwork delayed things between the main office of Vivint and whoever they were dealing with, which could be the state, local agencies, or National Grid. But whoever they were dealing with, they were working on a snail's pace and that shouldn't take that long because when I put up my the first panels in 2015, it was much faster. When I met with the guy in July of 2014, they came up and put the panels up in January, and I had the panels turned on in January. But now, it took forever for the paperwork and the things to get them turned on.

My daughter and son ran through the same thing because they all have Vivint. And they said it took six months after the panels were installed to get them turned on so they could use them. When I called and asked Vivint what was going on, I didn't get a return call or an email from them. So, when I didn't get any information back from Vivint in Utah, then I had to blame them because they were not communicating with me to tell me what the delay was for.

Going Solar was the thing to do, and we figure we could save a lot of money too especially during the summertime. We have a large bill in the summertime with a pool and AC. The installers did a good job, and everybody was very professional. I've had two people that I could not understand on the phone, however. When we were questioning times and when things were going to get done, the people that I talked to could not understand me and I could not understand them. That was a couple of occasions, but there were other occasions that went absolutely fine. Overall, everything has been fine.

Vivint Solar approached us at the BJ's Wholesale store. Cheaper power made us look into solar energy services, and so far Vivint Solar is good. It took forever to get it installed, but that was more the local power company than them -- Vivint's ability to deliver is complicated by our local power company, which seemed not very responsive. Enrolling was straightforward and it seemed relatively easy. They did most of the work, and I had to sign a bunch of paperwork. We haven't had any trouble communicating with their reps too. Overall, our Vivint Solar experience has been positive.

Vivint is good. The reps were honest and good people. They came on time and did everything in one shot. They cleaned after their mess too. We took a chance on Vivint because we got elderly people and we have electricity going skyrocket in the house. Now, electricity’s cheaper, and the lights are not dimming inside the house anymore. Before, when we had everything running, sometimes, the breakers blew out. So far, so good. Everything is running good and everybody’s happy.

I have Vivint Solar's systems for approximately eight years and they are very good. I'm happy with the company. Recently, I got 15 more panels and and part of it was because I had to correct their aerial view from the satellites. It showed the back of my house, which has about 82% of sunlight during the day, and I cut these trees down about five years ago. Initially, when I got the people out here that do the determination, they said that I wasn't eligible. But when I asked them to take a look at my backyard, they gave suggestions on what could be done and that was when they continued on with the appointment for the installation.

During the installation, they were in and out in one day. I was impressed with the service of installation, setting up the panels, being neat, cleaning up, and doing all the safety requirements. I’m a builder and they met all the requirements with the safety harnesses, and I was quite happy with that. I ran into a problem on the installation but it was resolved to my satisfaction. Their service of ongoing problems can be problematic, but the contractors that came here that work for Vivint did a good job and I was content with the service that they provided.

Vivint Solar rep Andrea knocked on my door and talked to me. I've been thinking about going to solar for a while, but I did not think it was reachable, and she explained to me how it was. She was phenomenal during the whole thing, and she was there whenever I had a question. They were really attentive as to trying to find a workable solution for me. They offered me several different options and I explored those options with them in depth thoroughly before I made my decision to go with the option that I have, and I've been extremely satisfied with the decision to go solar. The system kicked on on November 23rd, so they got the release from Duke that everything was going well. It has been working great since. I had a positive experience all the way round with the installers who put the panels on the roof, the coordinators, as well as with their contact center and the people in their corporate office.

A Vivint Solar rep came to the house and it sounded like a good idea so I went solar. Everything was smooth with the purchase and installation. I waited for the approval from the state. They checked and see if I had enough sunlight in there, and the installation went quickly. It took about two months, and then it was turned on. So far, I'm fine with my solar. I've had solar energy for two years now. I got credit in my bill and my bill comes in zero. However, I had a solar put in the second floor for our tenants and they said it hasn't made any changes for them. As a matter of fact, they got a higher bill this month than they had before. They were charging him 60 something dollars. So, they were complaining about that. I'm gonna have to try to call the customer service today to find out what to do about that, if they can just take it off.

I had someone come to my door a few years ago when I was living in a house that wasn't my own, and I appreciated the conversation I had with the gentleman at that time. So when I had my own house, I looked Vivint Solar up and sought them out. I like that the solar program was a little bit friendlier for the environment as opposed to burning fossil fuels, and I also like to try to save some money. Signing up with them was easy. The registration, sign-up process, and installation happened quickly. Everybody communicated well. If I had questions, they were answered quickly.

I feel good going solar. The only complaint that I had, and it was probably not even Vivint's problem, was once I had the panels installed, it took forever to start to get approved for the whole process, to start using them. Getting the electric company sign off on everything took a long time. It took almost four months. A little bit more information about the process from once you get them installed to when they start producing would be helpful.
