    Reviewed Dec. 23, 2019

I was always interested in solar energy I’ve spoken to somebody before who told me that there was a down payment and a whole bunch of things. Then, one of Vivint’s salesperson spoke to me about their product, explained to me that Vivint doesn’t do a down payment, and walked me through the steps. I was able to get it put on my house and it makes more sense to get my energy from the sun versus paying somebody else to be producing it. I’ve noticed as well that even the electric companies are getting a lot of their source’s from the sun and charging for that. So, going solar led me to have my own source of energy instead of paying somebody else for it.

Other than that, getting set up with Vivint Solar was very easy and wasn’t difficult. And there weren’t any mistakes to any hookups. Everything was smooth down to being able to schedule the installation and getting the right timing for them to come out and get started working on the roof. We've been producing solar energy for about a month now and I’m totally happy with my decision to go solar. It's the same as when you would rather own your home versus renting it. Why pay for electricity if you can make it yourself?

A friend told us that solar energy was good to use. We also heard about Vivint Solar through him, so we decided to try it. When they were selling the contract, they answered their phone right away. But after that, we're having trouble trying to contact them. I left five messages and they couldn't call me back to explain things. They told me to download the app and that it would tell me everything. But I got the app and everything says zero, so it's not working. I wanna make sure if the system is working or not and right now, we're not sure if we're using the solar energy or what kind of energy we're using.

Someone came to our front door and they planned to talk to my husband about solar energy services. But it was the fact that it wasn't gonna cost us anything if they were gonna do it, then it sounded good to him so he went for it. The enrollment process went smoothly and now, our PG&E bill has gone down. The representatives were very professional, very nice, and very eager to please. We haven't had any problems with anybody that's come to the door. We're very pleased with Vivint.

I’ve always thought about solar energy services and the guy I used to work with put solar panels up on his house. He showed me zero electric bill, and how it was a lot easier, cheaper and cleaner. So, I started looking into it and when the guy from Vivint Solar showed up at my door, I went for it. The guy gave me his personal number, so I just texted him any time I had a question. He got back to me either that day or shortly thereafter. The reps at Vivint were easy to work with. I liked their customer service and I didn’t have to do a whole lot. I just had to leave my side gate open a couple times, and it was effortless.

The panels look cool. You can’t see it from the front, which I like, but if you go in the backyard, everything’s laid out and looks neat and cleanly done. I have a lower electric bill since having it installed and I am very satisfied right now. The whole process took a little longer than I thought, but it’s up now. Other than that, it’s great and I’m happy about it.

We were in the market for a solar company because we always had a higher bill. Our bill was $500 a month and we wanted to try to reduce that. We came across Vivint, we interviewed them and we went with them. Signing up with them wasn't too difficult. Once they got through checking your roof and making sure you had the right direction, you were getting enough sun, and then developing their plans as far as if the system that they were gonna put on your roof was reasonable. After that, it got difficult. It wasn't too hard for them to get out here and put the equipment up, but after that, it just dragged on and on, getting it hooked up, getting it online, getting it to pass codes, the inspections, etc. I had two systems on my roof and both of them went that same direction.

It took months and months for them to get what they call the PTO, the permission to operate, from our local energy provider. And to a certain extent, they laid the blame on them, they laid some blame on the city, for what the city requires. At the end of the day, when they're doing business in a city or a state, I expect the company, particularly a company the size of Vivint, to know what the rules are or what they need to do. It's not the first time they had put a system up. This last one in March, it was on our roof, we didn't get the permission to operate until it was October. Between this, that and the other thing, with inspections and scheduling, I appreciate all of that. The city has its time frames, but I haven't been very happy about that part.

With the system that we have now and with the rule changes, we were supposed to be producing at least even or a bit over what we used. If we wanted to get this second system up there, you have what you call the True-Up annually. So, you don't actually get so much of an electrical bill or electricity bill from the Pacific Gas and Electric, PG&E. In March, we're looking again for the True-Up. I've heard a lot about them, so as you produce and as you use, it gets offset during the year. And at the end of that annual period, you have to make up the difference between what you produced and what you used. And at that time in March, we were looking at about a $1,300 bill coming up for the True-Up, so we were trying to get that offset. That was part of the selling point of the salesman. The system wasn't even approved yet by June when that all came around. So, my wife was saying we had to pay a $600 bill here recently for the True-Up.

Now, we had a new annual True-Up period. So, we had to pay what was due from June. Hopefully, it's gonna start picking up first week mid-rain when it's nice to have weather out here, but now it's winter. We need more sun, but it picks up. Sometimes you're down more in the winter and you're higher in the spring and summer. I'm expecting that it will work its way out. I got over 40 panels on my roof. They reset the True-Up date, so nothing could be done about that. Going forward, we'll continue to see power generation. It's not quite six of one or half dozen of another because you pay less to PG&E, but then you're paying money to Vivint for the power that you produce. So, it's not 50/50. That's okay. I'd just like to get to a point with utility that maybe I'm even and I don't owe them anything at the True-Up. And I'm only paying a couple hundred dollars a month to Vivint for the power that I generate. That's better than 500 or 400.

I'm dissatisfied with that process of getting the system up and rolling. It's up there, it's working, I haven't had any explosions. But the wires that were not taped off were hot and could have presented problems if they touched the metal. Breakers that were on that should have been off during this process of getting the system up and running. I'd appreciate Vivint if they do act on suggestions. My wife has referred a friend of hers. They had a little bit of difficulty to get the permission to operate. This particular person was prominent around the city and knew a lot of people in city government, and he threatened them with that that he would let them know what's going on with Vivint. They were Johnny-on-the-spot to correct whatever deficiency they had at that point. So, it's frustrating.

I had one guy here that it's bad enough to try and get the city inspector out here, I appreciate that. It's good. Next door, we have a city called Campbell which seems like their inspectors are a lot easier to get out to a property. Nonetheless, it is what it is. So, be ready to deal with that Vivint and had an inspector out here at one point, just needed to do one thing and everything else passed by that time.

The guy from Vivint that was out here couldn't go down to Home Depot and get the breaker. He had to go through some big rigamarole to order it and then he got to get back on the schedule again for the inspector. So, that was a whole big deal. I could have gone down and done that, but no, you burn that, and then that's another month that goes by because then you gotta get the part and you gotta get things, schedule the inspector, so that's another month that gets wasted. I got their equipment sitting on my roof, not paying any rent and just doesn't seem right. I appreciate them. Hopefully, they'll do something about it and hopefully it's just not one of those exercises that companies try to make themselves look good and don't follow through.

We sold our house two months ago and are still dealing with billing issues and no one seems to know how to fix it. My husband has been on the phone every week for two months trying to get it fixed. We are constantly told that a supervisor/manager will call and no one does. We are told it will be resolved in a week and it never is. We called today and they said it will be resolved in a month. NOT LIKELY!! We are at our absolute wits end with this company. If you are considering going with them, please run in the opposite direction and save yourself a whole lot of stress and time.

I wanted to reduce the price of paying for electricity and the environmental impact. I just had the system installed and everything went along good.Initially, when they got the final approval from the county for the switchover from the utility company, it seemed they had a little delay in terms of actually seeing the kilowatts that are being produced from the panel. But now, it’s working. I’m able to see it. Also, I'm having problems registering in the system and getting some number. I don’t have all the records and I was trying to get in contact with Vivint to get the information that I need to supply to my state government. I spoke to the sales rep and he gave me the number to contact the people at Vivint, and I was in the process of doing that but now with the Christmas holidays, I haven't had time to get back to them yet. But I plan on getting back in touch with them because I need that information.

I’ve looked into going solar in the past with different companies. From the experience of other people that had them, even though they had solar, they still had a true-up bill. My mother-in law still had to pay over $2,000 after having solar. So I didn’t see any benefit out of having solar when you still had to pay your solar bill and a true-up bill. That kind of slowed me down from getting Vivint Solar a while back until this last time I talked to Justo. He said that they had a different system of doing it now and they can do over 100% on my roof. It sounded a lot better. There would be leasing of equipment. There was no buying equipment, so I thought it was a better offer now than what it was back then.

The only thing is I don’t know whether it was the weather or the part of being solar that we had a week or two that was really cloudy, so my outlets in the garage where I have a freezer and a refrigerator went off. I had all my stuff defrosted in the freezer and I had to throw them away. I wasn’t too happy about it. I shouldn’t be short of power because it automatically connects to PG&E. Also, on my app on my phone, I can’t see where my bill is. The last three weeks, what I'm producing hasn’t been showing on my app. It just shows 0000 for the last three weeks. In order for me to see what my bill was, my wife had to go to the PG&E website.

Other than those, the enrollment process was great. Justo kept calling me and letting me know what the next step was, what was coming up, inspection, and the installation. Even after installation, I got an e-mail saying it was ready to get turned on. He came by, checked it out, made sure it was on and it was working fine. Justo was great.

I spent $5k to have trees removed for this system figuring I would get that in return due to my savings. So far I am out $5k and still have the same electric bill. 9 months is ridiculous to have to wait for people to “approve paperwork” when everyone on my street has solar.

I was outside one day and a Vivint Solar gentleman was going through the neighborhood. This is the second time they came through. They had come through two years before, did the whole thing, gave me the plans for the house, went through the house and I was all for it. And then, they wanted the plans for the house and I didn’t have them. I had no idea where they were. I couldn’t find them. They said, “Oh, that’s not a problem. We’ll send it through the county for you.” Then all of a sudden, they didn’t wanna pay for the plans for the house. And I just never heard from them again. That really made me mad.

When the salesman came by the second time two years later, I complained all that to him. First, I shooed him away, but the guy was so nice. He worked out and I was at the gym, and we had something in common. I invited him back. We sat down and talked, then I just told him why I shooed him away because I had a bad taste in my mouth from what they did before. They had everything set up, and then they just never contacted me again. They gave me the plans where the panels were gonna be. They gave me the drawings. I was just waiting for the date that they were gonna install everything, and I just never heard from them. They never even came by. And I thought that was very poor. But this time, the salesman came back twice and talked to me. If it weren’t for him, I probably wouldn’t have done it. Because the way he explained everything and broke everything down, that was what really sold me.

Apparently, they had a different management. Back then, they wouldn’t rent the panels. You had to buy them. Now, they let you rent the panels. I’m retired now and my wife is the only one working. If I was still working today, I would’ve probably ended up buying them. But right now, the finances in this household is different ever since I retired. So, there is no way I was putting out that kind of money to buy them. And they do things different now, so that was why I went ahead and did it this time around. They’ve been very nice. The installers were very nice people. They came out and showed me how to turn on the system. If I didn’t know how to turn the system, I’d call them and the gentleman will come out. It has been a pleasant experience. I turned it on some time late October and I only got one bill, so far. My gas and electric bill went from $358 a month down to $158 a month. It has been a pleasant experience all the way around.

Their customer service got a nice app. They showed me to put on my phone and it was cool. You got a read out of what you’re bringing in from the solar panels daily. I only had to call one time, when they kept calling my wife at work. She’s a nurse and she can’t be bothered at work. So, I had to call and say, “You send me all the emails. You call my home when you need something." But they only talk to me when they set all this stuff up. So far, we got that straightened out. Now, I’m authorized if they call to talk.

I was very suspicious with how this was gonna work out, how much savings we were gonna get because you’re not buying the panels. But if anybody has any second thoughts about it, I would go ahead and do it. I can show them proof of my gas and electric bill, how much we’re saving. It’s definitely worth it. This house was built 1975 and I was worried about the extra weight on the roof. It wasn’t built for solar panels to go on there. But the guy had me lift up a solar panel and it was so light. They made me feel good about how light they were when they installed it.

They showed me everything and worked with me. They told me that, “Any time you wanna cancel the installation while we’re doing it, tell me. We’ll stop work right then and there.” They knew I was paranoid about it. But the guys that installed the panels were fantastic. They just walked me through the whole thing, which I thought was very nice on their part, because they were here doing my roof from early in the morning till dark. Other crews came over to help them finish and a guy even asked me, “Is it okay if we put the box here? Is it okay if we put this line here? Do you like the way this looks? We can do it this way if you like it looking better this way. We can run it this way if you like it. We can hide it behind here if you like.” Other people just wanna do it the easiest way. But he cared how it looked, if I was pleased with it. The customer service and the installers were outstanding.

I stopped by at the moment that the individual from Vivint Solar was talking to my uncle about the rates, and I became interested in solar while I was listening on to it. The enrollment process was good. It didn’t really take that long because the individual was talking to me and my uncle at the same time. It was roughly an hour. The rep kept me up-to-date and informed. He had answers to all the questions. The installation went good as well. But the only issue that we had was labels. I kept getting rejection letters or notices three times because there was no labels installed. My uncle and I live in duplexes, and his duplex is right next to mine, so both of the consoles were right next to each other.

When they first came and installed everything, they didn’t put labels. So we got the first rejection. Then we got a rejection for the second time because the people that came only put one and two labels on, and it got rejected again because they needed the whole address. On the third time they came, that was when it was done the way that it was meant to be done. That was the only thing that was the actual lengthy process.

I've been installed for almost a month already, so I've had the power on. The instructions were nothing like what we actually had, so we had to schedule somebody to come and help us turn it on. When they did come and turn it on, it turned out that there was something installed incorrectly. The electrician was able to establish what was wrong and he fixed it right then and there. He turned everything on. Everything went perfect.

Solar is wonderful and we should’ve done it years ago. We had seen a couple of people in the neighborhood put it on their roof, and we thought we’re older now and it might make a difference and help us, and it has. Enrolling was very easy, and the people we worked with were wonderful. When they come and periodically check, they are so nice. They may be working outside the house to check, but they always come to the front door and get permission to be in the yard. And they always say who they are, and we know who they are. It makes us feel very comfortable with them. They have called to check on us to see how things were, and they were very nice on the phone. Our bill with our electric is very low now and we’ve done very well with it. We’ve had a couple of people that do not have solar in the area that have asked, and we have recommended Vivint.

There was a Vivint salesman going around our neighborhood and he stopped and talked to my wife and me. Before he came, I had thought about solar energy services and I was just gonna start looking into it. I went with Vivint and I'm satisfied with them. The enrollment was easy and the installation went well. They were gonna do the installation on the first part of April last year but we kept getting ice storms. I would call and tel them I needed to reschedule because my roof was all full of ice. They never said, "No, we have to come out today." They understood and rescheduled it. Finally, in the middle of April, we got it installed.

I am withdrawing my recent review about Vivint customer service. My problems have been resolved and I am pleased with the results. Basically, this originated due to a lack of communication, mis-information about the solar system, and false information from a third party. I apologize to Vivint and especially to Brandi, who was very helpful in getting all these problems resolved.

They state in their contracts that they promise not put a lien on your property. But they did on my property? I am trying to re-finance my home and there is a lien on the property. Hello... Customer service via phone call is no help, sorry, you have to use an email and give them 3 days to respond? Or the service reps have such heavy accents and talk so fast that you can not understand what they are saying. I asked the lady to talk slowly, which she did for about 3 words and then sped up again.

I had a problem with my system in the summer, a converter was not working, but it took them 5 weeks to notice it. So I had a huge electric bill of aver 400 dollars. They said sorry? Very inept people, lying people, and rude people. Worst yet, is that I signed a contract with them. Beware of Vivint. They are not what they say they are.

I had solar energy through a group called NRG but they were totally inefficient and customer service was horrible. We were not getting any benefit out of the system and the electricity rate didn’t go down. I asked if they could put more panels on but they said they weren't working in the state of New York anymore. Vivint, on the other hand, has been very customer service-focused. They call and follow up. The additional panels that they put up for us has given us some relief in terms of the electricity bill too. With the seasonal changes in the weather, we're gonna have ups and downs – that, we understand. But so far, it's been great. Vivint also has a very good system where you can go online and see what's happening with them.

Though Vivint's enrollment process was long, their salesman was good. He made it easier but not everything was explained to me fully. At that point, I wanted something to reduce my electric bill. The system they installed is all clean and sleek. It was inspected properly and electrical work was done correctly. However, they said they were gonna show me the breakdown of how it would all work. But they’re not telling me any details of how the system accumulates kilowatts that I’m gonna get back to reduce my bill.

For six weeks, I was trying to get a hold of that. They finally sent me one in an email but it didn't say anything about where my excess solar goes and when it will be used. All I see on it is they charged me the 20 cents per kilowatt-hour that the panels produced. I pay that, but I don’t see any accumulation for me. After many calls to the customer service, IT calls and wasting time on phones, it was like, “Are you kidding me?”. I was on the phone with people that some of them can’t speak good English. They keep asking me my name and they keep forgetting my address. I have had to hang up because I need somebody that needs to speak English to me.

I’m pretty good with computers and websites and passwords and getting into things. The app was easy to put in and I can see some things on it such as how much the system produces every day. But then, their website is horrible. They won’t let me into their website where I can see my own stuff. I don’t know what the big secret is. I’ve seen examples of bills that explain everything in detail, but they’re just not letting me do it. They just installed everything, they’re hooked up, they’re billing me every month. I have questions, and now I’m off their back. They wouldn’t leave me alone while they were installing it. I was getting called every week. Once their system is hooked up, they're ghosts.

We spoke with their representative, and we felt that it was fitting for us since we didn’t have any out-of-pocket. We anticipated that the enrollment process would take some time, and we went live on September the 9th. I’m pretty technical as far as accounting because that’s my profession, and I did a spreadsheet so that I could compare the cost of solar as compared to the Nevada Energy bills that I got on the months of September, October, and November of last year, and December, in comparison to this year. The first one was during the month of September, and the comparison on my spreadsheet showed that I saved approximately $115. This month, which would have been the October bill, I found that it exceeded my Nevada power bill from last year by about five bucks. But when I went to the initial consultation with them, they said the production is gonna be a lot less during the winter months. So I didn’t figure I’d make a federal case out of it.

They’ve been very helpful. When I didn’t understand how to do things, they’ve re-explained, came out to the house and helped. They did all the permits required and remarkably reduced my electric bill from about 300 down to 125, and then the PG&E bill was $1.98. But I called them the day before yesterday to let them know that the roof is leaking where they installed. I told them I needed somebody to come out and throw a tarp over it so that the amount of damage on the inside of the house is reduced. They set up an appointment to come out. I have not heard from them. I’m 72 and I don’t want to get up on the roof to put a tarp up there. Moreover, it has been raining for two days and the blister on the dining room ceiling is getting bigger.

Moreover, there was no cost to put the solars up and if 20 years from now I don’t want them, they take them down without any cost. I figured I had nothing to lose and I have to trust in somebody. He seemed very trusting, which was why I went with it.

I've been with Vivint Solar for a couple of months and so far, so good. It was summertime though so I didn’t have the heat on. But I used electricity and right now, I seem to be saving. I usually pay around 200 and I pay 130 to Solar. Then I got my bill and it’s $10. I’m supposed to get online so I can view my bill in that every month and see how much I’m using. Vivint Solar came out to fix a simple issue with my roof leaking due to the solar panels. Vivint removed the panels, fixed the leak. Left main detached from the panels since September. I have been getting charged for production when the panels didn’t produce for two months on the Vivint end and PSEG (THE POWER COMPANY) has been sending us astronomical bills. I called to rectify the issue and was hung up on the first time after demanding a supervisor. The second time I requested to speak to a supervisor and was given the run around, transferred a few times and then was told all the supervisors were too busy with other callers that someone would call me in an hour. 3 weeks later I am still waiting.

I had someone investigating about getting us extra panels on a house we purchased and assumed the Vivint contract. When we moved in last January our panels were not producing enough juice to substantiate a lower energy bill. I was told we needed 3 months of bills from PSEG to get more panels. I sent them over. Then I was told they needed 4 months, then 6 month of high energy bills. During this period the energy bank drained to zero and the power company has been reporting ZERO solar production registered from Vivint since September. All summer long we have been getting billed from PSEG because our Vivint system isn’t producing enough solar power to be worth the investment then Vivint is also billing us even for two months when they left our panels completely disconnected from the main???!!!. The gentleman who was investigating this now has been avoiding my calls, emails and texts asking Vivint for help in rectifying these issues.

Vivint seems to train reps to give any existing customer the run around till they hang up in sheer frustration and refuses to get you over to an employee or supervisor that can get things accomplished. If you want to buy the Vivint reps are super friendly, once they have you in contract it seems Vivint can care less about their existing customer base. Buyer beware – I suggest anyone who is investigating this company for solar run the other way. Don’t get scammed like we did - I would give ZERO STARS if it was an option at this point with an issues now ongoing since July and still unresolved as of November.

I work from home, so I answered the door and he told us about the cost savings that were involved, and with the energy rates rising in California, it would be a good idea to consider. We didn’t move on it right away. Steve came back a number of months later after more of our neighbors had jumped on board, and my husband happened to be home from work that day, and he talked to my husband. We decided to move forward at that time. I was given all the link and then I went on and enrolled. We’re satisfied going solar.

The installation went very well. We only had one negative and that was the inspector for the city who was gonna meet somebody and they showed up at our house and it was the wrong house. They were supposed to meet down the street. We were actually leaving on vacation, so we were all packed up, ready to go to the airport, and the Vivint Solar guy showed up and said he needed us to open our gate and we asked why. He said because they were having an inspection with the city. We said no and he said yes. I guess he made a few phone calls and he realized he was at the wrong house.

So, I put it on my house and the house I own across the street. In the process, we had to remove our tile roof and put in a wooden roof and tile back over it. We also threw in 17 inches of insulation, which we would not have done and we're very glad we did. They had to check the satellites to see that everything was copacetic, and it went along nicely. For my house across the street, it was a different story. They put all the panels up there and for some reason, it took about 40 days to get things turned around. It had something to do with an old sentry box, which I had two inspectors look at. So, they had to replace that, and it keeps the place from burning down. Everything has worked out fine. They have the best deal that I've seen so far.

I called Vivint on Nov 1st and no one got back to after being on hold for over an hour. Now I call again on 11/7 and damage resolutions mentions they will come out 11/25 a month after my original call.

This is unacceptable since the close on my house is the 20th. Therefore I will not be able to close and lose out on the sale. Then it took them a while to put the solar panels in. They promised they'd show up and then they didn't. It was no big deal but after they installed the panels, I got a bill that said they had deducted almost $300 out of my account. That put a shock on me 'cause I wasn't prepared for that. So I'm on a tight budget. I contacted Vivint and they said that the next bill I get wouldn't be that much. Then, I told them that if I gotta pay something, they need to bill me directly and not to take it out of my checking account.

Also, I have a power box inside the house. They hooked all to that and run the power from my box outside to their box. They told me it would be moved outside so I kept asking if they could have somebody move it and see what the cost would be. I wouldn't mind helping out on the cost for that but they said no, they didn't do it. I'm not very dissatisfied with Vivint though. I got a bill from Edison and it was a lot less. I've been paying about 200 from them and it was around $20 drop on their part.

I disclosed that I was not ready to purchase yet but maybe at the end of the year I could consider more seriously. But owning my panels was the only option I'd consider.

The rep pressed me for personal and financial information, to confirm my date of birth, which she had a slightly different one, my SSN info, and even sent me a "response to my request for a loan application" by email while she was at my home. They clearly had personal information and a dubious referral on me which towards the end of my meeting with the Rep, left me very uncomfortable and suspicious about the high pressure tactics for me to divulge my SSN info. She asked me eight times! I worry about the elderly and vulnerable consumer who may be taken advantage of by this company if these are the level of sales maneuvers that they use. Consumer beware.

I’m very satisfied going solar. I have saved a ton of money already. My utility bill used to be at $800. Then, when I got into all of the programs, it went down to 304. And then now, I think I pay $80 something to Vivint, and my PG&E bill is 15 bucks. I haven’t hit my first True-Up yet, but I haven’t seen a change in the numbers in True-Up in two months. It was a wonderful experience. Thank you Vivint. I've also recommended Vivint Solar to four friends.

I wish I never was conned into these solar panels. The salesman never explained that you pay for what the solar panels PRODUCE. NOT what you use. So that's their HOOK. They tell you your KWh price is 4 cents lower than PG&E's and panels will be designed to cover your average usage. My panels are generating more than double what I use and this is October. God help me when the longer days of spring & summer come again. My 1st bill which hasn't even come in yet is tracking to cost me double based on the KWhs produced so far. Once I figured out what a mistake this was, I contacted Vivint. This was just a few days after the panels were turned on. I've pleaded with them to reduce the number of panels on my roof only to be told I can possibly get a "performance adjustment" but only after 12 months of bills that are going to be double what my normal utility bills would be.

If I had understood upfront how the billing works I never would have approved so many panels be installed. Every page on Vivint's website says they want to save you money. It's a LIE!!! They are LIARS. I've contacted Vivint asking them to please reduce the number of panels. So now I'm trapped into a 20 year contract and no one will ever buy my home with this setup. I'm a single 57 year old woman trying reduce my expenses and save for retirement. Vivint NEEDS to make this right. I should not have to pay 20 years for a momentary mistake. They knew exactly what they were doing. I did not.

Solar energy seems to be the hot topic of the current day and age. Everybody’s doing it. Enrolling with Vivint was easy, but very long. We applied last August and we had it installed in January, and it didn’t get approved until July. So, it took 12 months. But it was because of our city and state. My bill hasn’t gone down nearly as significantly enough. It’s not saving me as much as I had hoped. It’s disappointing. I thought, after all that, that I would have my socks knocked off, and it has not happened.

I signed up with Vivint Solar by a gentlemen working in my area. He was all hands on and promised to assist in getting the SREC and all of the other "promises" made to control costs, but once the sytem was installed he was like a ghost. Jump forward and I find out he is no longer working for Vivint, so I call the customer service line only to be told, "We are not responsible for signing you up for the SREC program." Well as a consumer if your company makes promises, your brand should stand behind them or at least provide some guidance for your customers on how to execute on the promises your company made when you sold me the product. Overall, I didn't rate 1 star because the system works well, however customer service is lacking at best. White Glove treatment until the install is done, then a bunch of empty and false promises. Buyer Beware.

We had a general idea of how solar energy services worked and thought it would be something we might look at. The salesman was lovely and he has kept in touch, and that’s great. The process was not too cumbersome although probably longer than we expected at the time but I wouldn’t complain about it. We purchased as opposed to leased, and a lot of information goes on that afterwards that we didn’t recall hearing about. So, we had to have a few phone calls afterwards to understand some of the details. We didn’t get a copy of the agreement and so, we made a request for it. Once we had it, that helped us understand better what the specifics were. Also, the process of enrolling in all of the rebate programs was more cumbersome than what was suggested to us.

The installation crew was wonderful but we needed some backup documentation that we ended up having to ask for. Then have to have somebody go through it again with us, which was the only downside. It has not even been two months so there’s still more that has to roll out about it but we’re satisfied so far. It was a very nice experience, but more material needs to be left with the client that details out the next steps.

I had been thinking about solar energy 'cause I was downsizing to a small house and I was looking for any way I could try to save some money. My friend told me about Vivint, and the rep came to the condo I was living in before I even bought the house. He explained to me the program and I liked it. So far, everything that the salesperson said was gonna happen in a certain time period did happen, so that was a plus. Josh went over everything with me with a fine tooth comb, and once I signed on the dotted line, things started happening.

The installation was painless. They did everything on their own and I basically didn't do anything. It was a great experience. After the installation, the biggest wait was getting Eversource, my local electric company, to come out and swap out the meter from regular to solar type meter. That took a couple of extra weeks, but it didn't matter. The panels were up, it was just waiting for the electric company to come and switch something out so they could activate my panels. I've talked to a couple of people that I know about it and I'm hoping they call Vivint and get a price themselves.

They said I can be qualified for solar because my monthly bill for SDG&E is over $100. They introduced me their program, and with Vivint's reputation and the experience of some of my friends, I went with it. And now, I'm 100% satisfied with that decision. I just wish that in the near future, I don't have to contact the billing section or my agents to send me my monthly usage. I already talked to the billing section for them to send the bill to my Cox email. It should be automatic that they send it out every certain day of the month, not me contacting my agent. Other than that, the service is okay. I referred it to my friends and two of those I have recruited will be having their Vivint Solar installed.

The bills are piling up and the calls are coming in furiously. I need my access resolved prior to paying for service I am only partially receiving. First off, I just want to say that I love having solar panels. However, the problems I’ve had with trying to get Vivint to fix a leak in my roof (less than 6 years old) using their insurance policy has been very frustrating. My roof started leaking water into my daughters bedroom due to damage from the solar panels and I reached out to the damage resolution department. They quickly sent a rep out to take pics of the damage. The rep first tried telling me that he couldn’t find the leak in my attic. Then the rep tried telling me my problem was a piece of cardboard had fallen down and that it just needed to be restapled to fix the problem. I had to send him back into the attic 3 times before he found the leak. I was then instructed to keep in contact with my District Manager rep Nicholas ** for additional information on the overall process.

It took 3 days of texts, phone calls, and emails to my rep before he finally responded, just to say he would call me the next day. I had to reach out to him twice the next day before getting him to respond. He told me he would have someone from the damage resolution department contact me with more info. Six days later I contacted the district rep again letting him know nobody had contacted me and asking for any updates. No response.

Five days later I received a response from the damage resolution department to make an appointment to have six solar panels removed. The earliest appointment they had was 5 weeks later. I told them that if anything earlier opened up to let me know so I could get the leak fixed before there was too much damage. I also wrote to my district rep again and asked if he could help to move things along faster. No response from the district manager.

About 2 weeks later I started receiving text messages from the damage resolution department telling me my panel removal date was still the same. I texted back asking when the roof company would be out to fix the roof and was told he would have the company contact me. Three weeks later, still no contact by the roof repair company. Now my panel removal date is tomorrow. I reached out again to ask about the roof repair company contact info so I could call them myself and was told they would contact the damage resolution department, who would contact me in 24-48 hours with an answer.

So, it has now been two months since I initially contacted the damage resolution department and I am still waiting to get my leak fixed. The communication has been horrible with everyone involved. If I don’t reach out to them, they don’t seem to care. The district manager, Nicholas **, who was supposed to be my guide through this horrible process, is very non responsive, which is even worse. I haven’t heard anything from him in over a month now. Overall, even though I love having the solar panels, I am considering having them removed just so I don’t have to deal with this process again.

They had to communicate with JCP&L, the electric company, to allow them to communicate with their system, and I had to wait two weeks. Then I got an email saying I could turn a switch. I did, and everything is working so far. They gave me the option of moving the panels if I didn't like where they put them, which I didn't ‘cause I have a weird setup. They moved the extra ones onto the main roof, and they were willing to work with me.

We have 3 Vivint Solar systems installed on two houses. We live in a fire prone area of California. PG&E is the power source and they have instituted power shutdowns in high fire weather conditions that once enacted can take up to a week to re-establish power. Vivint has adopted a policy of only offering battery backup to new customers leaving existing customers out in the cold in case of power outages. Furthermore, existing customers can not use a 3rd party battery backup system unless they own their Vivint system. Thus, existing Vivint customers are completely locked out of being able to use battery back with their Vivint Solar System. I am extremely disappointed in this corporate policy. It shows they are willing to throw their existing customers under the bus. If I had known this prior to selecting Vivint, I would have not used them. Buyer beware!

Enrolling with Vivint Solar was pretty easy. Cole came over, visited for a while and talked about it, and I had a few questions. The installation was done. I left the gate unlocked, and they came in and did their thing. I've had solar energy now for a couple of months. The switch wasn’t noticeable. If you walk in the house, you wouldn’t even know that I had it. I’ve had a couple of automatic bill pays and $110 a month and that’s half of what I was paying. The bill I had before was about $230. I’d recommend Vivint Solar to anybody. My daughters and sons have asked me about it, and I told them about it. I said, “If you guys are gonna stay in your house, I would recommend you have it installed. It cuts your bills in half.” I’ve also talked to a couple of neighbors that are interested. And I just passed on some business cards to them, and I said, “Here, if you’re interested, make it happen. But it takes a couple of months for it to get going.”

She was very forward and very interesting. She knew what she was doing and she made recommendations. I'm still not completely hooked up, but I'm liking what I'm seeing so far. The electric company was out this week to install the new meter, so I'm told it will be all set up any day now. The only thing is that everything takes forever to get through the government's processes and it's outside Vivint's control.

Signing up with Vivint Solar was really easy. The guy that we spoke to was really good. He stayed in contact with us and kept us up to date with what was going on. The crew that came out here was also really good. They even assisted with painting our pipes to make sure it match the color of our house because our HOA's big on that, and once it got done, they cleaned up everything. We then got our inspection and we got the system turned on really quickly compared to what most other people experienced with NV Energy. What I paid the power company and Vivint for the solar was about 60 bucks cheaper than what I normally pay for the summertime, and we had really hot summer days. I'm waiting for the winter months to come to build up credits, but so far, I'm pretty happy. Vivint is a totally awesome company.

I had checked in with solar a while back, but as far as I was concerned it was too expensive and I didn’t really need it. When vivint Solar contacted me, they said that they would put the system in for free. It wasn’t gonna cost me much of anything and it was gonna get the cost down to $0.20 a kilowatt-hour. But I got a bill from SDG&E for $182 and I got my first bill from Vivint for $56 when I wasn’t even up and running. After I just paid SDG&E $182, they billed me for another $144 so I don’t see how I’m saving money. I live by myself and don’t run air conditioning and that means it's very unusual for me if I paid over $300 for electricity.

Christin, the guy that talked me into doing this seemed like an honest guy but I don’t know how much of that was true. He told me he could have the billing done through the mail and not take it off my credit card. I told him that if the bill was going to come off my credit card automatically, I don’t want it. It still hasn’t happened. I spoke to a lady and she had told me that once the salesman makes the sale and you’re installed, they don’t have to talk to you anymore. I said that was rude and that it was like they were trying to hide something from me and I don’t like it.

I was told that I didn't have to pay the bill at this time and that we'd settle it at the end of the year. I told them that I didn't wanna pay $2,000 at the end of the year. That’s the whole point of having the system. She told me that I was getting charged $0.20 per kilowatt that that system puts out, not what I used but what it puts out. I said that that doesn't seem right. Why would I be paying $0.20 a kilowatt for stuff I’m not using? This whole thing has been a fiasco.

Sure, you will get savings on your electric bill but dealing with Vivint may not be worth it. The Sales people are super helpful until your system is turned on - then they literally stop responding to any voicemails or emails. They consider QA inspections on the install as optional and I requested one anyway and it has been months - no calls or anything. The customer service line gives you the run around and you cannot get resolution and the wait times are usually 20 minutes each time you are transferred (which is at least 3 times on average). I am trying to change my email address on my account - 4 people later and it is still not resolved and this is the simplest request. Oh, and the online account does not allow you to change your email. It says it did but then you log back in and it reverts back to the old one. Absolutely ridiculous! This was a huge mistake! I am fed up.

Everybody was super professional and helpful. Vivint Solar hires some good people. They have a good street team that walks around and canvasses. They have an iPad with 5G service. They can set up everything on their iPad and call their boss and do FaceTime with the boss. It was pretty slick and I was impressed. Reggie was a really good dude. He was just in training, but he was super helpful. If he had a question, he had the iPad and phone. He’d call up the boss or customer service and they were right on him. I waited for the requisite month to get the State Certification Number. When I did not get it, I called NJ Clean Energy. They told me Vivint Solar made a mistake on the application and they had to fix it. I called today and spoke to a useless person at customer service and to a supervisor, Nameha. They told me to email filings... which I did... of course there is no response or recognition that this email was received and to top it off Filings has no contact information.., there is no way to call them. Vivint Solar is working on it but I’m not happy with their speed of getting it fixed. Every one of the people that I speak to are excellent. If they ask, “Would you hire this person?” I would hire them in a minute. But the problem is the people behind the scenes aren’t paying attention to the details. I called Vivint twice but was never answered. So in September 18 or 19, somebody went to my house, installed the missing part and left me a note that the panels are now working. I checked the box and it’s true, they installed what was missing. But when I checked my bank account on September 22 or 23, I saw that Vivint Solar pulled out 70 bucks when this panel is only working for three or four days.

I called Vivint's different numbers and nobody answered. I did it in Spanish because my language is Spanish, but nobody answered. I tried many, many times. So, I tried in English, explained the issue to the lady and she transferred me to another guy who speaks Spanish. I explained to him what happened, and he told me, “No, I have info over here, your solar panel started to work in October 13.” I said that cannot be possible because they’re missing something.

When I spoke with that guy that speaks Spanish, he said, “You have to go with the bank and cancel how Vivint Solar take away your money, because on the 20th next month, they'll take the money. So, you have to make sure to cancel before they take again more money.” He asked me to send him a picture of the note because they don’t have a record that somebody went to install something in my box, on my panels. I took a picture of the note and sent it back to him through the email he gave me. The next day, somebody called me and left me a message, “I need to speak with you, because it looks like they made mistake." So, they wanna make that compensation. I called many times but nobody answered. At this point, I don’t know what happened.

Even BGE is only charging her 7 cents at the moment so how is she winning. She is now paying 5 cents more to Vivint per KWH than she actually is to BGE. Our bills from them are just astronomical. I have never paid this amount of money for my electric bill. And that's with having Vivint and my electric bill. My bill normally is around $350, but my bill from Vivint alone is $350 and my electric bill is $176. This month was higher. I’m freaking out. I didn’t expect this. I’m paying more than I ever have for something that I was supposed to be able to save money on. That's the whole idea and if I’m not saving money, then it doesn’t make sense. I’m not really happy.

My wife talked to Vivint and was told that it’ll balance out in six months. She’s been questioning it too. It ain't balancing out for the time that I needed it. I should be seeing a decrease in the time I’m using it the most. My wife sent me all of the information and I gotta call Vivint. I’m not in the tier level of Edison, so that’s a good thing. But they turned around and they coerced me somehow. We signed something that they would get the automatic deposit out. They are taking money out. I told my wife to stop paying them. She’s gotta do something with that then I’m gonna abruptly call Vivint and tell them that they cut me off and tell me what exactly is going on because this is not what they told me. I also used Vivint for my homes in Orange County. I need to get ahold of the right people on this and find out what’s going on.

Updated on 10/28/2019: I ordered a system and gave them $1000 deposit. I cancelled after 6 weeks because I could not get in touch with anyone at the company. After 3 months of trying to get my deposit refunded I have almost given up. I wrote a review on this site on 9/22/19 and got a "concerned and caring" response from the company saying someone would get in touch with me to resolve my issue. NOTHING! Their tactic appears to be to stall until you give up. BUYER BEWARE WITH THIS COMPANY. IT IS A ONE WAY DEAL. IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM YOU'RE OUT OF LUCK.

Original Review: I ordered a solar system from Vivint. I paid $1000 deposit and then waited. I got no response from anyone and after a month of trying to get the sales rep to respond to emails and calls I canceled the order. I spoke to Sam ** in customer care who was very nice and processed the cancellation and said I should be getting a refund. It has been 6 weeks and no word from Vivint. I have called at least a dozen times and it is now impossible to get a human being. For the last 3 weeks I've left voice messages and sent emails with no response and at this point don't know how to proceed. I believe I am going to lose my $1000 deposit with no recourse other than to hire a lawyer. Not a good experience.

This company will switch your energy provider even if you do not go with their services! We went through the process of looking into having solar panels installed. Then after looking at some of the online reviews, we decided not to do it and we notified them so they would not schedule the install. Little did we know, he still switched us from PECO. So we have been paying almost double what PECO charges per kwh. If they visit you, keep an eye on your electric bill for the next 6 months and make sure they don't switch you!

Another company I considered for solar services wouldn't do any work at my house. I ended up with Vivint 'cause they would come in and do all the work. Their service rep came over and went through the process with me. From there, they sent somebody to take a 360-degree image of the house. We had a very long waiting process afterwards. Then, they set up a date to come out and put everything up on the roof.

The people for Vivint who put the solar panels in were awesome. Every time I walked outside, they would be like, “Oh, we’re doing this. We’ll be outta here.” The way the panels were supposed to be set up on my roof were put as backwards. So, they changed the entire plan and set things up differently which is more sun-efficient than the way they had it before. Also, even still to this day, I call my sales rep when I have questions about my bill. She answers the phone and solves my problems. Supposedly, everything is done via email. But then, there's a glitch in their system and I got wiped out, so I still don’t get emails from them. Even so, I've recommended Vivint to everybody.

I, however, thought that our bills, the combination of electric bill and the solar, were going to be less that what we were paying without the solar. Our solar bill was 161 and our electric bill was 191. So, I don’t know what is going on, and if it is a good deal. I’ve called him and he said to call the Edison Company and to make sure we are on net something. Edison said we are, that it takes a couple of months and then we will get a credit. But, it has been quite a while. While our experience with them was good, I would not recommend it to anybody because of the high bill.

Vivint Solar keeps telling me I owe them money and I keep telling them to send me a bill to see what I owe and why I owe and we'll work on it. They keep telling me that they've sent me bills by email but I've yet to see them. I told them the only things I've gotten from them by email are about a survey or home security. This has been going on for four months now.

Also, I get a bill every month from a local power company. It shows where I've paid for energy I've produced and energy I've used. When they signed me up, they said I was gonna pay them for the energy that I produce and then when I need energy, I would pay for that. If I'm already paying NV Energy for what I'm producing, I'm not gonna pay Vivint for producing it too because then I just doubled my power bill instead of reducing it. And if they're not getting their cut from NV Energy, it's not my problem. I'm just about ready to tell Vivint to come get it and take it.

We had Vivint Solar installed in August. My first bill was $44, but that was a mid-month. And then, I got the notification the other day for the first full month, and it was $160. My average power bill for June and July was $98. But when I paid the August bill, the power bill was $238. So, we paid the power company that, and then we paid Vivint the $44. I'm just trying to figure if that's just because it was a mid-month thing when they activated the system, especially with being summer months. I'm also trying to figure out the difference with it still being hooked up to the power company and with the solar panels. I was doing some reading on the site because I'm still trying to figure out how to read the app and what the savings is and whatnot.

The whole process wasn't bad. When the technicians came out and did the inspection around the house, I was impressed with the day they came out to do the installation. And then, with the whole process of getting it vetted and approved through the city, and for the work permits, as well as through the power company, they seemed very smooth. Their reps were great. However, when I asked, "Hey, how do I understand all this stuff?" I was told, "Oh, just go to this website." Personally, it would be more helpful once system was installed, a rep would do another visit and say, "Okay. This is how you kinda break it down."

If you like frustration and huge bills, Vivint Solar is the company for you. They never show up when they say they will, but they do show up when they’re not scheduled. Customer service doesn’t have any answers if you’re lucky enough to get them on the phone because of the time zone difference. But absolutely the worst part is that my energy bills have gone through the roof. Not only do I have to pay Vivint $80 to $100 a month but I still have PG&E bills. Vivint kept the true up process under wraps, but beware of the yearly bill where you pay for the energy you use above what you generate. My true up bill this year is $1,693. As a widowed public school teacher, getting this type of bill every year is catastrophic.

When Vivint first installed the system, they didn’t put enough panels for our usage. When these true up bills started coming, I began the process of trying to get the panels removed or to get more panels added. Instead, they tried to SELL me more panels. I did not trust that Vivint had anything more than profit on its agenda so I declined to pay for more panels. I was faced with hiring a lawyer to dispute the contract and have the panels removed or have another separate system installed. It took six months for Vivint to get the new system installed and running so it remains to be seen if my Vivint bills and true up costs will ever go down, but I honestly wish I had known better when that first lying salesman came to my door. My advice is to avoid this company like the plague and very carefully research other solar companies.

Vivint Solar's enrollment process was good, and we didn't have to pay for the panels, just for the service. Customer service has been good too, but I don't like the automatic payment. They said I had to do it though, so I did it. I'd rather they send me paper so I could make the decision how to pay it myself. Also, I'm getting two bills, one for the system that was recently put in and one for the old system. I received one check after the extended system was put in. However, I'm not seeing the complete benefits that I desire.

I am a 4 year customer of Vivint Solar. Their lease plan is great and it has saved my family quite a bit of money on our energy bill. I took advantage of the removal and re-install of my panels to put a new roof on. Everything went smooth until they re-installed the panels. I have a brand new $12,000.00 dollar white roof and the installers drilled anchor holes through it for their safety lines without asking me if that was ok. They also outlined the four area where the panels were being place with RED construction crayon. Needless to say red crayon on a white roof stands out like a sore thumb.

I spoke to customer service and they sent a tech out to check it out and explain the anchor holes. He mentioned that he used to install for Vivint and he would have given the customer an option of holes or he could tie off on the opposite side of the house. He also reported the crayon damage. I received a call from Vivint and they said the crayon would wash off over time?? I told them that it would not and they said they would send someone out to clean it off. Two trucks of men showed up a week later and climbed on my roof and used my hose to try to clean it off. It did not work.

Vivint never called me back. I have made at least 5 phone calls and 5 emails to customer service and they have never called back. All it get is an email stating "We apologize for the delay and appreciate your patience. Due to our current, high service volumes, we have been unable to reach out to you." etc. This is the worst customer service I have ever dealt with. One star rating is because I could not choose no stars.

I am a new customer in June of 2019. On the go live date the system was not working due to the inverter not working. The inverter had to be replaced. The system worked form June 30 thru July 29th and then stopped communicating the Solar production. The 1st tech was unable to find the issue, a 2nd tech identified the issue of a part that communicates the Solar production needs to be replaced. Was told the part had to be ordered and would take 7 to 10 days. It's been 2 weeks and have not heard anything. Disappointed that a newly installed system has had 2 part failures and that it takes this long to get it fixed. It's been since July 30th since the system has communicated the Solar production.

Our power bills are very expensive here. My niece and nephew had Vivint installed in their house, and we also decided to sign up with them. We started the process in December, then the system was installed in May and was activated in June. Our salesman, Fred, really made everything quite simple and we didn’t have to do much. He would give us a heads-up on people coming to do things and we only had to open up one time for them to go up inside the house in the attic. After that, it was just notifying us that they were coming and that was on the outside. So it was really painless and very professionally prosecuted. I’m very satisfied with Vivint Solar and I’m glad I signed up with them. I look forward to a good relationship here.

I looked into solar in the past and and the Vivint Solar rep let me know that there was a lot from Massachusetts, that there was a lot of grant money and that would actually be no cost to me to install the unit. I have electric heat and I had exorbitant amount of electric bills so I needed some way to relieve that burden, and I thought going solar made a lot of sense. However, there were some kind of permit things that took a long time and a lot of things were out of Vivint’s hands. The installation took longer than I expected, but the system is so new that I’m trying to understand it. I had other companies come and they looked at it and same thing, “It’s a good system. They did a good job,” so, I’m pleased with that.

I use a lot more electricity in the winter and less in the summer. National Grid took the medium and I would pay an x amount every month and, by right, I would be at zero balance by the end of the year. We finally got the system up and going so I paid off the balance of what I owed to National Grid, and they were sending me monthly bills but they were showing that I have a surplus. So that’s a positive. But I’m not even receiving the automatic drafting, and taking out of my checking account, some charges, and I’m trying to find out what those charges are for. I’m trying to find out the payment, cost, savings and what’s really going on with them. But I’m pleased with engineering and the installation.

Vivint Solar's guy came to my door and he was very trustworthy and believable. I'm quick to close the door on people, especially if they come and I don't know about it, but there was something about him that made me take a strategic pause and listen to him. And the straw that broke the camel's back was the timeframes that you could use solar energy between four and nine. I work full-time and the only time I can do anything is when I get home, which is 4 or 5 o'clock and that is when they're on their peak hour. If I'm gonna do laundry, I wanna do laundry at that time and not have to worry about a jacked up electric bill. So I was getting kind of tired about SDG&E and I was always tier four or higher. Vivint's system has brought us down to tier one prices, so from my perspective, I can't complain.

After I reviewed the program, they went ahead and did a credit check to make sure that I was credit worthy, then they went back and proceeded with the rest of the steps. It was a lengthy and wasn't a quick turnaround process, by any way, shape, or form. I had to go through somebody coming out looking at my roof and determining the plan, the schematic of the panels, and how many panels we needed. And based on energy consumption, I needed more than the average because I use heat compressors for a business that I do, so that could consume a lot of electricity.

So, they went ahead and showed me what it would look like on the roof from a satellite picture. From there, I had to wait for the permit from the city, then they came out and installed the panels. They did everything in a day. They had the box set up outside and it was a matter of flipping a switch and we were on solar. Once I got the approval from the city and from SDG&E that I could come off the grid, I was able to enjoy my solar power. The whole process took about three to four months to complete.

I've seen the reviews after-the-fact, and I don't always go with them a lot of times because it could be a geographical issue that creates a negative review on a company. So the service is only as good as the people that work in it in that area. And from my perspective, I had a lot of support. The only thing I didn't like was that even after I announced myself as the husband, they didn't wanna speak with me. They wanted to speak to my wife, Judith. But Judith and I both go in on anything. It just so happened that her credit check was used.

Other than that, I was told from people at work that Baker was a better place and I should've done Baker. They don't know Vivint, but I was pleased. Even though I hear now Vivint has an issue with something and that their profits for the quarter weren't as high. I saw that advertised a month or two ago even though they increased in their insulation. But from a consumer standpoint, they gave me an easy transition and a good product. Being a layman and not getting into the details with everything, my wife and I found that it was a pretty painless transition. Our experience has been great and the only thing that is sticky is how they bill and knowing when the bill's coming. Still, it's been really transparent.

Second, I noticed that my true up with PG&E seemed high, over $1000! When I contacted Vivint about they they said they would review it for me. They said I may need more panels and would look into designing that. When I didn't hear back from them I called and they told me there was no more room to add more panels. Why didn't they call me to tell me that. Then, they just contacted me recently to see how my system was performing. I told them I was not happy and that my true up charges seemed excessive. Again they said they would review things. I have not heard back from them. DO NOT EVER GO WITH VIVINT SOLAR!!!! WORST COMPANY EVER!!!!

We started with Vivint just fine, but we recently had a problem. The equipment that belongs to Vivint reset itself at standby mode. So, we were billed by PG&E instead of by solar. That occurred for seven weeks or so and it took Vivint four weeks to be able to find out what the problem was. So, Vivint received the credit and we had to pay. I'm not sure how that could be rectified. At this particular time, we are 85% satisfied that we went in this direction. There’s some modification that needs to be made, and we will contact the consumer services department of Vivint Solar to deal with that. But we’re very happy that we made the decision to go solar.

Updated on 08/24/2019: First, it took me almost a year to NV energy to approve the installation. The way they installed it. Then after that. It worked fine until August 7th. That was almost 9 months since it's been installed and it went out in the hottest part of the year when I needed it the most. Then it stopped generating power on the hottest time of the year. I called August 9th. Instead of setting up appointment right then. They had to contact the Las Vegas of office. They said they would contact me Monday. Then they said they do not work on weekends. I think this is unacceptable not to work on the weekends. Now I'm paying high electric rates.

Then Monday 12th of August, they did call and set up appointment for the following Monday. Again this is the hottest time of the year when I need my solar. Delete this is still unacceptable. This is one I'm paying for the most electricity use in this hot summer. I thought they would schedule somebody right away before I had to leave to China. I had to leave for China Thursday. Then I would be back the day they wanted to come out on Monday the 19th of August. I was coming back Monday from China night time. So I told him to come out Tuesday the 20th of August.

They came out and put a new inverter on. I looked on their site to see if it was working. I showed no energy being generated by the solar. I called them up. They said it's gonna take a couple days to put the new inverter number in the computer so it shows this. I thought I had no way of checking if this thing was even working. Even though they said it was working. So I thought of an idea to go check somewhere else. Because with Vivint I've had so much problems. I always think they're lying to me.

So I wanted to see if the NV energy site showed anything and it did. Which showed it was generating. Because Vivint site still is not showing that my system was working. I went on to the NV energy site every day to see if it was working. I checked Thursday it was still working on the NV energy site. I checked Friday the 23rd on the NV energy site. It showed it was not working again. Not generating solar power. I checked it on Saturday for Friday. You can call the sales Department on Saturdays. But the system support is closed Saturday and Sundays when you need them. This is unacceptable for a company. NV Energy site shows no generation of solar power now. Vivint site shows still no solar generation. Now it is Saturday. I have to wait till Monday to call system support. I got the system so I can save money in the summertime. Vivint equipment Fails a lot.

I will call Monday. I hope they come out right away. But I bet they don't schedule me for a week later again. I think this is unfair to the consumer. I bought a system for $30,000. In a year and a half what money have I save since I've had it installed? Again I would not use this company ever if I had a choice. Installation and service is not good at all at this company. You're willing to talk to your sell equipment on Saturday. They don't even have service on Saturday. It shows you where their priorities lie. Sales comes first over the consumers problem. I hope many people read this and do not buy Vivint.

Original Review: Try again. First my installation took longer than it expected. Then it took over a year to get it turned on Due to them not hooking it up correctly. My solar panel went out, outside. In the first week of August. It was out about 3 days when I caught it. I thought they’re supposed to catch this. I thought the box was supposed to send out a signal to them that something was wrong with my box. I guess it never did send out a signal that my box went bad. I called them on a Thursday When my box went out. Then they said they'll call me Monday to set up an appointment. If this was a better company they would have called me on Friday to set up this appointment. But they did call me on Monday to set up appointment next Monday. I set it up for Tuesday the next day because I would not be in town till Tuesday. I also set up for the maintenance guy to get here Between 8 an 11 o'clock. And he didn't get here till 11:30.

Everybody has things to do. I figure when they give you a window period they better be in that window. I do not hate the people at the company. They have a job. It's the upper management that isn't managing right. Whoever that might be. The person who installed my box. Who is a wonderful person and he knew what he was doing. But me, I would never recommend this company Vivint to anybody and I have.

At the time, it seemed like my electric bill was kinda high, and I had a number of friends that had researched and heard good things about solar, so I looked into it as well. The process with Vivint Solar took longer than I thought. I got panels twice. The first time took almost six months. And then, the second time, I called in, and I felt like my Edison bill was too high, so I didn't think I had enough solar panels. So, they did their research and came back. And putting my additional panels took about six months to get processed as well.

During that time, I was paying both Vivint and Edison. It was pretty bad. I was really getting frustrated. I was paying way, way too much. I had to pay Edison about $1000 at the end of the year. And that didn't happen in the very beginning. Those were the most frustrating parts of working with Vivint. But I think it might have been more on Edison’s side.

Vivint's customer service team was great. They were helping me along. It also took a while to get the salesperson when I did it this second time. The sales person indicated I would get a $500 fee for doing it. But that was the most frustrating part because that took forever to get approved, and it was very disappointing. And then you had to wait for the money. But they couldn't reach the sales person to approve it. It was bad. But the installation went well. The people that came out put in a new breaker panel. They were very clean, and they matched my stucco. So, I was very pleased with the actual work that was done. Vivint has been very responsive when I would call in on different things. I’ve been pretty pleased with Vivint, and I referred people to them. It’s been good for me. It’s all worked out. I noticed a big difference in my bill this first month. Vivint Solar approached me about putting panels on my roof. I went with them because they maintain ownership of the panel. I don’t plan to live at that house very many years. So, I didn’t wanna sign a lease, and pay for panels when I wasn’t gonna be there. The Vivint rep that came to my home was very professional and very knowledgeable.

I’ve been trying to get a past due amount with Vivint Solar caught up. It started with getting a phone call saying that I’ve been overpaid and there were some days that I was underbilled. And in the end, I received a line of credit, and then didn’t have to pay anything. I told them to keep it on the books and they would just deduct every month. But when I got my first bill, it was around $700, and I had a little bit of credit left over, which dropped it down to around $600.

I talked to another lady named Bernice. We worked on a payment plan so that I could get caught back up for the four months that I underpaid. I’ve been working on that to get it caught back up, but then Bernice sent it in for another review to see what they could do. And they came back and said that I owe them $600, and the only thing that they could do was credit me $200.

I called back again and told Vivint that it was not fair. I’ve never had solar before and Vivint has always been good to me. I had them set up on AutoPay so that I wouldn’t ever be late for a bill. And I’ve still been battling a $600 bill. It went to the point where I ended up installing 10 more panels on my home to overcompensate the usage that I was putting out. And it’s just been a tiring battle.

I was trying to continue making payments when I still have them. But then, I skipped out on one of my payments due to my father dying in July. And I made a payment yesterday for a May bill, but I still have to pay for June and July, and August will be due by the end of this month. It’s been very frustrating because if I knew that there was anything wrong with my panels, I would have called them sooner. And now, I’m struggling paying the bill that I don’t think I should be responsible for because it’s something that was not in my control.

I never had a problem with Vivint until I got the line of credit on January of this year. Normally, I’d pay in the range of $171. There was one bill for $180, but I get that since I’ve been running my air conditioning nonstop. But aside from that, Vivint Solar is great. All of the reps seem very helpful, and they want to help. They don’t want to try to stiff me the $600 bill. And sometimes it’s really frustrating because there has been a few that are trying to explain it to me, but I tell them that can’t see what they're seeing.

I really wish that all the departments that I have talked to could all see everybody else’s screen so that you’re not getting like six different stories. Because you call billing department and billing department can only see one screen, and they tell me one story where they would say, "We can see where you were online and then you were not online, and then your solar panels quit working." They see the overcharge and the undercharge. They can also see where there were a few months where my solar panels weren’t running at all. But when I get to another department, they would say that that was not the case at all, and my solar panels have been running this whole time. Another thing that could be done is to get a few more panels put on my house. I wish that the second account could be part of the first account and not having two separate payments.

But out of that month and a half, it has only worked barely a month. The first time, it took them two weeks to come out and take care of it. The second time, it took them five days. But they finally got things taken care of.

Some friends told me about solar energy and Vivint Solar was willing to put in the equipment at no cost to me. The enrollment process went fairly quickly. It was just a matter of a bunch of questions and they wanted to know how much our normal utility bills were. When we finally got everything arranged, everything got installed very expeditiously.

I'm fairly satisfied with my decision to go solar. But it took about nine months from when Vivint Solar installed the equipment up to when it finally got inspected and they gave me permission to turn it on. Also, I don't feel I got the benefit of the solar until really quite late. Supposedly, PG&E had to come over and inspect everything but I never saw PG&E coming over to inspect anything. Vivint got the city inspector over here fairly quickly to inspect everything though. But there was a small issue that the city inspector had with making sure that the wires were properly protected from being tripped over if anybody is up on the roof. Vivint got that repaired quickly and the inspector came back over.

I like the idea of being solar. In the long run, I'd better off. One of the biggest concerns I had with solar, in general, was if were they gonna compromise my roof. But there was no problem. I would have known if there was a leak. But Vivint claimed they had some kind of method of doing it so it was pretty bulletproof. They also said my roof was in pretty good shape. If I have to reroof, I would have to call Vivint and pay them $700 to remove the solar panels then put them back on after I get the material roofing material on it. And that is okay. I understand that.

One downside is I think Vivint should have turned it on instead wanting me to do it. They sent me some instructions for that. It worked. But it's not really intuitive, looking at it, whether it's working. I flipped all the right switches and everything is in the right position. But a normal homeowner might not know whether it's working or not unless they call Vivint and ask if they're generating anything. Other than that, the friends that I have have been happy with Vivint.

They told me they're gonna change the electrical box because they just left everything out, and I'm afraid it's not gonna last longer with the weather. They did a really awful job on that. Some friends of mine had Vivint Solar, and somebody was going around the neighborhood. We had wanted a greener kind of lifestyle and we originally looked at it, and then, for whatever reason, we didn't do it. And then, we decided to get an electric car, and so, we figured that going solar would be the next thing. We called Vivint Solar up and got it hooked up. The representative was very helpful and was texting and communicating a lot. The process itself was very simple. I really didn't have to do a lot, except to look for my last electricity bill, which was very easy.

I'm very satisfied because it's just greener energy, it's clean. The only thing is that I misunderstood how we would use the energy, and the amount of money we would pay every month. So, that was a little bit of a surprise. I called and double-checked with things. I understand it better now. And then, the referral process wasn't exactly very clear. It was a little confusing from the person that I had spoken with.

The bill is now $50 less, which is good. But I was thinking that it was gonna be a little bit more. And then, I didn't understand that we basically get charged for the amount of solar we produce. I thought that when we produce solar, that that would go towards our electricity bill, and then, whatever was left over would be sent to our electricity company and they would get the benefit of extra electricity going into the grid. I didn't think that we were going to be paying anything towards Vivint, or it would be minimal, like it would be under $100. But our last bill was $227. So, I wasn't expecting it to be that high. But if you think about your regular electricity bill during the summertime, it's usually at least 300. I would still recommend Vivint Solar to people and I'm glad we did it for sure.

However, when I did the contract with the gentleman who came over, he told me that I would be storing an average of 1,000 kilowatts per month. But then, my system is only storing about 800 and something. On my PG&E bill, it's building up a number that at the end of the year, I will have to pay. The Vivint system is saving me money but then I might have to pay that money to PG&E which I'm not too happy about. Still, my neighbors pay an outrageous amount for solar and my bill with Vivint has been $141 a month which is not bad for the summertime.

Vivint Solar's process was good until we got installed, and then it went downhill from there. The guy who came out and quoted it knew what he was talking about. Everything that he was saying was good. But when they put the solar on the roof, they said it could be anywhere from 30 to 45 days based on the Edison Company. Everything went on our roof around the end of April and I started getting emails from Vivint frantically telling me that we didn’t sign the documents for the Edison Company. So they waited 45 days and they didn’t know that? But they didn’t send the link. So we couldn’t sign it.

I’m texting my guy, going back and forth. So, there’s some sort of disconnect between what has to get done with, who the salesperson is, and what needs to get done. We’ve flipped the switch finally on the first week of July and I’m still getting another Edison bill. So the technicians were wonderful. They did a nice job on my house, and everything looks good. But the back side where I have to pay is not so good. Now I have a $185 Edison bill and I have to pay for the solar, too.

Vivint keeps saying that it’s gonna cycle again. But Edison is still sending me texts that say my next bill’s gonna be $150. So how many cycles does it take? At some point, Edison is gonna owe me a ton of money. Vivint has a lack of process inside their system. But they have a wonderful app. I can see how much we’re producing. We’re producing a ton, but I don’t know the difference yet because I’m still getting an Edison bill. But that was supposed to switch, and I get the one-month gap, but it's been two months and that's kind of a little too much.

I’ve sent Vivint emails, but I can’t get anyone to reply to me because their accounting department is not taking care of it. I have solar on my roof and I’m told it’s gonna be 45 days. But at the 45th day, they need me to sign documents. If Edison has these forms for us to sign, it should’ve been signed when we signed the contract. It's a $20,000 solar and Vivint forgets this one little part to turn it on. It left this sour taste in our mouths because everything was working great. We were excited, and we really liked the guy who came out, but then we can’t get anyone inside their building to make it right.

The salesperson from Vivint Solar was very nice and he was professional. It just so happened that there had been some other people coming through the neighborhood, and they didn’t have any kind of real identification. But this guy had on a t-shirt that said Vivint. He was knowledgeable and he helped explain my utility bill in a way that I hadn’t looked at it. So, he was a good guy. This is a new house and it was built with the solar panels in it but at the end of the year, I was paying almost $1,000 to Southern California Edison, and it came out as a bulk out of my checking account. I wasn’t actively looking for some relief to that, but when the guy came by and we started talking, I realized that that might be a solution to part of the problem. It’s not that it’s so much cheaper than what I’m paying to Southern California Edison, but I’m paying it on a monthly basis. It’s better for the environment, and I don’t have that $6,000 coming out of my check.

The salesman did everything during the enrollment process. He was my contact with Vivint. I would get different things in the mail, papers to sign via email, which was good. I did not have any difficulties going through this process. So far, Vivint Solar has been great and I would recommend them. And again when he showed me the sketch of the panels placement, I told him that I do not want them placed in the front of my roof. But on the installation day, I noticed that the technicians were installing brackets on my front roof. I stopped the installation and quickly called Jeff my Vivint sales rep. He assured me that he was on it and was making calls.

After two hours, he called to say that I should allow the technicians to complete the installation since it was about to rain. He promised that the manager had already approved for the panels to be moved in about two weeks. He even sent me the new drawing for the placement. It took more than 8 months and over a dozen phone calls for the panels to be moved. Now, I have been fighting and calling Vivint to remove the brackets and pipes they left on my roof and repair my roof and they are giving me the run around.

Each time I call Vivint, I am on hold for 40 to 50 minutes before someone will come to the phone. After dozens of calls, I was given an appointment for the repairs. On the day of the appointment, Vivint called me from a local number but quickly hung up before I can pick up the phone. After a few minutes I got a text message telling me that the appointment had been cancelled. Remember I waited three months for this appointment.

After several calls, I was scheduled for another appointment which was again canceled on the day of the appointment. Now I have an appointment for end of August and only God knows what will happen then. Each time they cancel, the Vivint staff will tell me that their roofer for my area fell off the roof and is not back to work yet. I asked him if they had only one roofer? And what will happen if that roofer never returned to work and he had no answer for me. I also asked to speak with a supervisor but that request was declined. Rather, he asked me to go to their management website to write my complaint. I am very frustrated with the whole issue. My roof was less than two years old when these panels were installed. My next step will be to seek legal counsel against Vivint. I will never recommend Vivint to anyone.

One of my neighbors had solar installed and I got to meet a representative from Vivint through that. I signed up with them then they did their part of the work over here. The installation took several visits and after that, they were getting messages that the system was not working properly. So, a couple of times, we had technicians come over and take care of that. When they were gonna come over, they would always call me and I would make sure that I was at home when they came. They didn't need to come inside the house, but still, I wanted to be here. They were also very polite and not only very conscious about what they were doing, but they were very nice as well. If I had some questions, they would answer. Plus, they explained to me what it was that I needed to know, like when the city had to come and inspect. And everything was completely accepted as okay.

I like going solar and my bill with Southern California Edison has come down quite a bit. So I'm happy about that, too. Also, having the solar thing doesn't make much difference because it's on my roof on the back side of my house and you can't even see it from the street. And everything seems to be functioning okay. But I've told the technicians that I don't touch any of the stuff that's on my house down below because I'm afraid. It says, "Warning, warning," and I don't turn it off. And if there's anything wrong, Vivint seems to get it online. This solar thing is dangerous stuff, just like electricity is dangerous. But I'm glad I have it and I don't think I will regret getting it. I'm truly satisfied with my system.

Vivint online representatives read my review and reached out to me and wanted to help resolve my issue. I’m so impressed to have received a call from Aaron ** right away. He is an excellent representative for Vivint Solar. He contacted me, listened to me and addressed all my concerns. Within a day my issue was resolved and they exceeded my expectations!! I’m so grateful that my issue was resolved so quickly.

    Original Review: July 23, 2019

Vivint solar just billed my elderly parents with a 900+ bill. I spent 2 days trying to get a resolution for this problem. They don’t seem to want to hear that their systems and processes created this customer billing problem. Basically, a man came to our house back in November because the system wasn’t picking up the data. It happened to be accidentally unplugged. When I asked the man who came out, how were we being billed correctly.. He said to contact the customer service and they should be able to check the data and it should be available.

I called and was told to submit my PGE bills. I never heard back so I sent a follow up email. Still no response. I spoke to a team lead named Kariem. He told me someone did call me. But I never received a call or a voice mesaage. Funny, all of the sudden the same day after I received an email saying they called me to discuss my inquiry. I never received closure on my request for them to check my data. I then noticed that I received a credit on the account for $683.00. I thought there could be a problem and that this was incorrect. So I contacted their billing department and spoke to a Lisa. She assured me that this was not an error and it was a credit because I had been over billed. I took a picture of my phone to show I had called in and I documented a quick note indicating our discussion.

When I spoke with the team lead Kariem I asked him to pull the recording. He said he did he the conversation and it’s true what I was telling him, but that it’s the Agent's fault, she didn’t know what she was doing. Which tells me they have system billing issue ps and training issues. I didn’t have a problem paying if I was given an incorrect credit but after I looked at all the numbers, I found that their math didn’t make sense. Without telling me why the bill was so inaccurate. I learned just today that Kariem said I was being billed because their system didn’t bill us correctly going back to 2017 almost 2 years later!! This is unethical business practices, I have started to research and found an incredible amount of Better Business Bureau complaints. I read quite a few of them and all same response. "We are reaching out....” blah blah.

I intend to file as many complaints as possible, especially the Federal Trade Commissions and government agencies as possible. The amount in dispute is about $657.00 because of their faulty systems. I am concerned this is happening to other customers. It leads me to believe their systems for billing are cheating other customers. I will also be hiring a lawyer to contact their legal dept to get this issue resolved. I hope other customers reconsider before they do business with Vivint. In February

Since I bought my house, the electric portion of my gas and electric bills were up really high. I wanted to go to solar and I signed up with Vivint. The two guys that I talked to who sold me the solar were very professional and they knew what they were doing. They recommended stuff and I took their advice. Then I asked them for some other stuff such as having everything match my roof because I looked at my neighbor’s house and you could see bare metal. In fact, one of the hiccups was that they didn’t paint the conduit up on top but that was just a miscommunication between the salespeople, what I requested, and what they put on the roof. It took a while but they came back and fixed it.

Then there were some brackets that were overhanging so you could see them and they didn’t look too uniform. It looked like one was longer than the other. They had to come back and fix that, too, where it looked all uniform after that. So in the beginning, things were kinda rough. But after that, things have been great. They went out of their way once they heard my complaints and they made adjustments quickly. They started putting up the panels by the end of March and they got that activated sometime in May. But they were telling me that I did a 30% tax break on my solar and I haven’t received paperwork on it. Other than that, Vivint's reps did a good job and so far, I’ve been very satisfied with my decision to go solar.

A Vivint Solar salesman came up to the door and they were the only solar company I’ve ever seen. When he came in, he was explaining it to me and it seemed like a good idea at the time, so I signed up. Everybody was getting solar panels, so I did, too. Their workmen were very polite and great. They always came up to the door and said they were gonna be up on the roof and that if we hear any noises, it was them. Nobody was breaking in. And they would knock on the door and tell me that they were leaving. They also said that if we hear any noises on the roof, that’s when I should call the police. Anybody should be able to hire those guys.

But I thought that with the package, I’d get a battery backup and have everything else, but they basically throw the solar on and that’s what you get. If I had a chance, I would get all the solar panels off. I feel a little cheated that when you hear about solar panels, you hear when the electricity goes out, you’ll have a backup and you’ll have this and this, but I got nothing but the panels. Then they were giving me a bill and one part cost $5. When I called and asked what it was for, they told me that it was a service fee. But they put the panels up and they were making money off of it, then on top of everything they were taking $5 a month from someone who’s handicapped, disabled, has cancer, has out of control diabetes, and on Medicare. Usually, when it says $5 service fee, it’s because you’re being penalized for something. But they just charged an extra 5 bucks.

I told them that they were supposed to be making their customers happy and they were not supposed to nickel-and-dime them. I agreed for the service and I didn’t want to pay $5 extra. They said they'd talk to the supervisor and get back to me but that was three weeks ago. They still haven't called back. Aside from that, when I started to add up everything, I saw a $20 difference in my last bill from when I didn't have solar. But I thought I was gonna have these savings because I got the panels up and they did all the work.

My bill was $450 before and I’m glad I went solar. I’m so glad it worked out and I'm not gonna take it off. But I was not happy with Vivint Solar's service. First of all, nobody told me it was gonna take eight months from the beginning to the end to put it on. There was one rep who was the nicest person in the world. He did everything very quickly, like as far as the contract, and they also put the solar panels so quickly. But from the time they put the solar panels to when they started working, it was a nightmare. Second of all, there were big issues because the team was not communicating. I had to communicate between them. They sent us wrong plans for the solar panels. They did not send an A to Z form and I couldn’t talk to anybody. After that, I read the reviews and it was really not pretty. I was like, “Oh my God. What have I done?” Now, I have a lease for 20 years.

Another thing is that nobody told me I will pay a fee for what I produce. The first month was $70 but now we got a bill of $181. I called about the bill and the guy was so rude to me. He was like, “Oh, you didn’t know about it?” I thought it was a flat rate fee. But now I got a $181 bill. I was told I was paying for what I produce and I don't understand that. After the almost-a-year of trouble that I got, I'm paying just a little less money for my electric. It doesn’t make sense. A rep even said, “So what’d you want? You want me to send you application to disregard your contract?” That was rude. But there was one rep who was really helpful. She would call me back and deal with the companies. I have a lot of neighbors who want to do solar but I don’t wanna recommend Vivint Solar because I’m scared they’re gonna be mad at me.

We recently closed on our house that had a PPA with Vivint. We are appalled at how Vivint has handled this transfer. We had an agreement with the Sellers that they would pre-pay the electric for the remainder of the PPA. During our conversations with Vivint, we were told to sign certain transfer agreements, which were signed by us and the Sellers. We were told to notify Vivint after the home closed. At closing, the title agency issued a check for the prepayment and mailed it to the address that we were given by your company. The day after closing, we notified Vivint that the home closed, as instructed by your company, and were told that the wrong contract was signed since this was for prepayment. It's been almost two months and we have not resolved this issue. The panels have not been transferred.

Your company sent us a new contract, which we noticed was incorrect and informed you. Nothing has been sent since then and it's been month. This has not been corrected. It has been crickets after we follow up weekly. We were told they then filed a claim against the Sellers estate for the entire cost of the panels. We are trying to transfer these panels and are getting nowhere with your company. Your company also has not cashed the check that was mailed in the beginning of June. Why do you not want the money? We have done everything your company instructed us to do and they are still not transferred! At this point, I think this is a company tactic and it's entirely intentional. I am appalled and would never recommend your company.

System installed on October 29,2018 and has yet to be activated (July 15, 2019). Vivint blames National Grid for delays, National Grid emails indicated Vivint submitted paperwork is not complete. Still waiting for inspections to be scheduled according to web portal. Recent email to customer service bounced as undelivered due to recipient server issues . Sales manager doesn't respond to emails as well. Installers put holes in screen windows (4+ months to issue check for that damage) and I am still finding fasteners in my yard on a weekly basis. Whatever you do, do NOT choose Vivint for your solar power. Customer service is terrible, especially once your system is installed. I installed my first system back in 2014 after a year in my 2000 sq ft home. The system had 36 panels and still only produced enough electricity to leave me $1,800+ short come time for my PG&E "True-Up". This happened for THREE YEARS, even after bringing it to their attention. After four years I finally got a check for $1,300 to "make me whole" (I guess math isn't their strong suit - like customer service - either; $1800 x 3 does not equal $1300).

Shame on me for thinking I just didn't install enough panels and listening to their offer for an expanded system (another 20 panels). After initiating this in May 2018, they were promptly installed. Unfortunately, they didn't turn the damn thing on until March 2019, nearly a full year later, even after I had contacted them starting 60 days after install. An absolute joke that was. Not only that, it's not like they integrated the installs. They're quite literally two separate systems and accounts. What fun that is.

But there's MORE! In July 2019 I received an invoice showing I owed $0 which is odd because if there's anything we don't have a shortage of in Kern County in the summer, it's the sun. Well, sure enough, I looked at my billing and it showed zero production for one account as of 07/14/2019. As I scrolled back through that account's production, it had not been producing SINCE June 11, 2019, over a month later. Curious me looked at my other account and found that it was producing (at least, it said it was), but from May 2 through July 8, 2019, it also had zero production. What gives?

It takes forever to get a tech out to have your concerns addressed. The system is installed poorly (on top of all the extra hardware, screws, and wire left everywhere up on the roof, in the gutters, on the ground, in my driveway, etc., the anchors to which the system is attached to my roof are now coming undone and the entire system is sliding). There is no care given for the color of your roof tiles and your system's hardware (I have a dark grey cement roof tile and for some reason, they thought light tan-colored, 12" x 12" tile replacements/system anchor covers were a good choice). And again, customer service absolutely sucks. Don't fall for the trap that is Vivint Solar. You will regret it. I know I do. Find a better option - there are plenty out there.

Going solar is the worst mistake I have ever made. The Vivint guy who came to my door made lots of quotes that I found out about a month down the road to be false claims. He said I would only be charged for the energy that I used, but found out it’s the energy that I’ve produced. I told him I make just enough money to pay my bills and buy a little bit of food. And even if I only save about 40 bucks a month, every little bit helps. Now, I’m paying over $100 more a month. He said that’s okay because down the road I would save. But I don’t have the money. I’m using my food money right now to pay my solar bill.

And then, they’ve made a mistake. At first, I thought I had automatic payment, but I didn't. My bill for the first three weeks was $106, then when the second bill came along, they said I owe $485. After about a couple of hours, 45 minutes of which I was waiting on hold, their rep put me in touch with someone else, then I waited for another 45 minutes. They said the bill was for April and May. Still, that’s $380. My bill was way more than what I was paying the electric company. I asked the rep how much energy I used because we didn't have that information, and she told me that the refrigerator uses more energy during the summer.

I got put in touch with another customer service rep and I explained everything to her. I calculated myself the amount of energy that I produced times the 18 cents per kilowatt hour, and it came out about $102 less than what they were trying to charge me for it. So finally, the lady got her supervisor, and then I was told that the best they could do is take $100 off my bill.

So, I called the billing department and said that I would like to pay my bill. It was a couple of dollars and I just wanna get it paid. I always pay my bills on time, so I didn't want any problems or worry about it. But then the rep said they didn't get the order yet to change my bill. I called back customer service and was told that it usually takes a few days to go through.

I called back a couple of days later, then a week later, then two weeks later, and talked to people off and on. Finally, I got this guy on the email and I explained it to him. I was really getting irate. He said he couldn’t blame me for my frustration, that he saw what I meant, and that he would issue a $100 credit. I emailed him back and stated that I was really surprised that they didn't offer me any kind of compensation for my trouble. I went back and forth with them on four or five emails and spent six hours total. At that time, it was three and a half hours on the phone in a couple of weeks.

I called billing department, and the rep said that the credit takes a while. I told her that I don’t like being late with my bills, and considering my excellent credit, I don’t want it to show that I’ve been late with my payment. Also, I've been getting calls from them asking when am I gonna pay my bill. So I told the billing department I would send the exact amount that I owe and that I don’t want any more hassles and anybody emailing or calling me. And I did send them the amount I owed.

But then, I turned around, and I got an email saying my bill was past due. And they added the $100 to my bill for June. So, I emailed the guy again, and he said I was right and he would take care of it. But I don’t trust them. I would never give them my credit card information because they make way too many mistakes. I’m not even happy now that I got it. I was misrepresented. So, I just sent my check for June about two days.

Also, when the sales guy had me sign the paper, he said it wasn’t really a contract. I was just agreeing that I would keep the system for 20 years, which I figured is fine. I would probably be dead by then, anyway. And then it was funny, because when all this billing stuff was going on around 20 days after the installation, I was trying to see what I missed as far as they were saying I paid for protection, this and that. The paper that I had signed said I had protection on stuff, which I don’t know the difference. And then I found out that there were actually two different pages that I signed. One was saying I would keep it for 20 years and one was just something not really big. And then for some reason, I started to scroll down and there were about nine more pages on that contract.

The guy just showed me the page I was signing. I was convinced it wasn’t a contract and they weren’t gonna put a lien on the house like other solar companies do. He also said that if my roof should leak any time in the next 20 years, they would come out and fix it for free, which I thought was cool. But then after reading that contract, it said that if I needed any repairs done on the roof, I should call them 30 days in advance and they would send somebody out to take the panels off for me so I could have the roof fixed. And from investigating, I found out that they actually charge the customer. I’ve also heard other horror stories about how when the panels go out, that the customer doesn’t even realize they went out and they're still being charged the same amount. Vivint lied about everything.

Ever since I started this, trying to get the bills straightened out, they kept coming up with these wrong calculations. At one point, they told me I only used 585 kilowatts for April, and the graph that they have showed that I used 713. Where’s all that extra money? But I went ahead and paid the 713 because I knew they made a mistake when they said I used that. This experience makes me sick to my stomach. I had problems with my heart, which had not bothered me in a few years, but now I’ve been having heart palpitations. My blood pressure has been up and I’ve had pains in my chest. I have been depressed. I’ve been feeling awful for the last two months now.

I decided to try solar after a Vivint rep explained how the system would work, as well as the payment, benefits and disadvantages of it. He was honest and I felt very comfortable with solar. The enrollment process was easy, however, I was getting pretty negative about the whole thing at first. I kept getting big bills from SMUD, because they said I wasn’t having enough output from here.

So when I was getting $500 a year payment to pay them, it started to get ridiculous. I've gone over a $1,000, and thought that that wasn't right. I've heard many people say that when you have solar to pay for it outright, and you don’t get a bill. I told Vivint I was getting the high bills from SMUD, so they sent out another guy and decided to put some more panels up. They also offered to pay that $500-and-some, which was the last bill that SMUD sent me. I gave Vivint the bill, but I still haven’t received the check. So right now, I have a negative attitude. But I understand that what happened was not Vivint's fault, and I was in sympathy with them. In fact, they did everything that they’re supposed to have done. It was up to SMUD to follow through, and they were taking their sweet dear time.

But it was Darrol, the rep, who really brought it to my attention and made me take action. Darrol and the technical guy that came with him described the program in great detail. Everything that they told me verbally was also written out so that it matched the language. So far I‘m satisfied with going solar, though I was a little disappointed that it took a little longer because there was a glitch in the system. It was like on standby mode and they had to send somebody out to fix that.

The only time I'm not happy is when I call for service and they come to do something, but their people don’t communicate with me that they have done it. Vivint's technical people need to stay in constant contact with the customer. Also, they should not just assume that we are home while they are. When they come, they should let us know that they’re there. When they get done, they should let us know what they finished and what their findings are. They don’t do that, and I have had to call to find out.

I almost fell for their sales trap. Although the energy consultant was friendly and tried to answer my questions, he failed at tricking me by making numerical mistakes on the price and also just giving his word on promises that the system did not include (e.g., backup batteries) on paper (sales purchase agreement). I kept asking the questionable details various times. Be careful with this company that is fishing for suckers who don't do their math and do a market comparison before signing up for a misleading quote.

I didn’t wanna spend money on solar panels. I don’t wanna make that payment to lease it or buy it. And then I was walking by the neighbor’s condo and he said that this company puts it up for free and you get 30% to 40% off your electric bill, and I thought that was a good deal. I'm satisfied with my decision. The enrollment part was easy. I called up and got this really good customer service person, Brooks. He walked me through the program and answered all my questions.

I'm a type of person who always ask questions, and he walked me through the plan, told me what I'm gonna do, what I'm gonna get, and how it's gonna be broken down, and the billing. He was real patient with me. He told me the incentives. Everything was good. But some of their communication, like to try to reach somebody, that’s not that easy. Like I had a billing question and I contacted the billing department, and it took a long time to finally reach them.

I was impressed with the presentation of Vivint Solar and what they offered when they offered it. They showed up when they said they would and the work seems to have been done. I've got problems with the system, like WiFi communication problem but I don't think it's irremediable. I also think the problem partly has to do with the quality of the WiFi system I have. But also, I'm sending them emails and talking with them about things that are not going quite right. But I haven't gotten any feedback.

If I were to give them a piece of advice, it would be that when they do get a complaint, they should follow up with the customer, at least let them know what's going on. But I don't get that communication. And I do think that if you call them by phone or send them an email, they don't necessarily coordinate real well between the two methods of communication. I don't think if they just don't incorporate them into one database or what they're doing, but it seems like the left hand, right hand problem exists.

Everything about installation and so on went reasonably well. But they've not completed the installation in the sense that there's still tiles from our roof, still waiting reinstalling. But when the system worked, it was working fine. Some problem like that of the quality of my WiFi system, has been addressed, and it's been upgraded. But I need somebody to tell me what to do to make it work. I'm not very dissatisfied. But I need to get the issues addressed. I am assuming that soon, I'm gonna have somebody here to fix this or tell me what to do.

The "right person" at Vivint to get out to fix a shoddy installation issue hasn't responded after two weeks of bugging their main customer service number. This after we were told by a follow up repair guy a month after installation that he had "fixed" the problem. Up on the roof 6 months later, only to find they'd never fixed the issue at all. Vivint customer service won't give me this person's number so I can contact them directly - I'm forced to call back their main number again, and again, and again, every three days or so, to tell them that no, no-one's called me yet about getting this issue fixed. I wish I knew what it would take to get.

My experience with Vivint Solar has been okay. But it seemed that it took them a while to put up the first panel and then it took three months before I could actually use them. Also, they didn’t put enough panels up on my roof the first time and I had to get some more panels. I noticed that the panels get better every day though. I have two different kinds of panels on my roof. One panel was at 285 and then my new panels were at 315. But my interactions with their reps were okay. I was satisfied with my decision to go solar.

I’d been wanting to go solar for some time and I was looking for the right way to do it. One of Vivint's salesmen came to my door, and he told me that he was still new on the job so when I had questions, he couldn’t answer. But he brought someone over that could elaborate, so he did a good job. The installation also went well. They had it all done in one day.
