From one month to the next CVS changes coverage on what they will and will not pay for without communication to the patient. With your physician doing all required pre-authorizations beforehand nothing is ever satisfying to the insurance company. I recently had an appointment with my doctor and now my insurance doesn’t think I need the amount of medication that I’ve been taking for years, (because bone pain isn't the same as with someone with cancer as was their example for why they were refusing to continue to pay for my medication. I’ve had 6 bone reconstruction surgeries including a bone graph on my foot, also have 6 screws and 2 plates holding everything together.

I suffer day in and day out, from deep bone pain. I need my medication to have a better quality of life. I’m also scheduled to have another surgery for hardware removal that’s perturbing from my heel. Often I have to pay for these medications out of my pocket totaling over five thousand USD for 2017. Only to get a letter in the mail for approval from CVS/CAREMARK. Stating to go ahead to get my medications filled as they will cover the cost, since these are controlled fills when they are due. You must get them or you could suffer serious health consequences, that could lead to a stroke or something even more serious. Asking for reimbursement is impossible. They will not pay you back if you’ve paid out of pocket. I hope someone reads this and can relate or is going through the same thing. Peace and Blessings.

I have had no trouble getting my prescriptions on time each month. They call, in fact they call too much, but they do go out of their way to make sure I get my medications on time. When my doctor took me off one of my medications they called me to ask if I had accidentally not ordered it, I appreciated the attention they take with my account. Entirely different experience then OptumRx. Optum seemed to go out of their way to make sure I didn't get my meds. I would spend an average of 5 hours a month on the phone with Optum arguing with them just to get them to send my medications (funny right, I thought they were in the business of selling medicine). If you have a choice, choose these guys over OptumRx.

I called about a refill that was already 2 days late and was told by a representative that it had been delivered 2 days ago. I assured her that I had not receive the package and she practically called me a liar and that UPS was ALWAYS right and had indeed delivered the package. I informed her that she needed to resend immediately and she then informed me that I had no refills now and it would take another 4 days to receive. I was livid by this time, I was already out of medicine. I told them to cancel my mail order delivery immediately and that I would take care of my orders myself. I called my doctor and was given a new prescription and picked up the same day. One week later I received the old package from UPS that was never delivered. It had the delivery date on it (one week earlier). I will never use this service again.

When they send the wrong quantity and claim it's the doctor's fault or the fault of the patient and refuse to help anyone unless they truly believe the mistake was their own that is poor service. I turned off the autorefill on the wrong quantity wrote by my doctor and turned on the autorefill for the correct quantity wrote by my other doctor but they sent the wrong script from the wrong doctor and claimed it was my fault because they sent me a text message before sending it and I did not call and correct the mistake in time.

Perhaps it was partially my fault and partially my doctors fault but it would have been pretty easy to correct it regardless. All they did was blame me and the doctor repeatedly and said they did not have to fix it. Rude unhelpful service every time I call them which is once or twice a year at most when there is a mistake because they always are rude to me and treat me like an idiot. Usually it is less painful to suffer the lack of proper meds than to deal with the agitation and stress these people cause me.

If I could give Caremark zero stars, I would. I have to have monthly asthma injections that must be delivered to my doctor's office. Caremark never gets them delivered on time because they wait to put them on a UPS truck. Even though this is a standing order, I call 2 weeks before I am supposed to be stuck by a needle just to try to get it on time. Even then, the medication can be late. I've shown up to my doctor's office and the medication hasn't even been delivered!

Last month, Caremark told me they were no longer contracted with my insurance and not one single rep had the same answer. My insurance company told me Caremark was contracted, that nothing had changed! When I requested to speak to a supervisor at Caremark, the rep told me they couldn't transfer calls!!! Now, a month later and suddenly Caremark is contracted with my insurance again! I am so glad I'm my own medical advocate because my elderly mother would never be able to navigate the cave in which Caremark operates.

So where do I start? At the end of last year I was finally prescribed a Med that I had been working closely with my doc on for 6 mos. I got it in on the Friday of New Years weekend. I went to pick it up on Saturday and they told me I needed a preauthorization. No call. No nothing. Funny thing... I was within the my deductible so my copay was minimal. So obviously I couldn't get the med. So this year we picked a different plan through my work and it had a lower deductible for meds. Because of my wife's illness we hit it pretty quick. I put the order in after my wife had checked that we did meet the deductible.

We checked on their app and called in and both told us that we had met the deductible and the copay was $29. So when I went to pick it up they informed me that it was $271! I said what??? I have since spent nearly 4 hours on the phone with no result! I was told that an account specialist was to call me. I called at 3 today and was like helloooo? The lady told me that I would have to wait 24-72 hours, TODAY, TODAY she tells me this?!? WTH Caremark!!!

First the local CVS didn't order the correct manufacturer that my Physician clearly writes on all scripts of this medication I've been on for over 10 years. Then they want to run it on my insurance again after it was their mistake and come back when they got the correct manufacturer in. I call Caremark who were very nice and they say no. They shouldn't run it again on my insurance & I'd just pay my copay when it comes in. Well long story short the local CVS was awful on both times and I'm having to have it run again on my insurance, pay more or don't get the medication. Also, this is now the SECOND time. They still don't have the correct medication/manufacturer and so I'm still waiting and going to pay more!!! Ridiculous! I have plenty notes and such as well.

Why in God or anyone's name should I need to provide a pre-authorization for a medication that I have been taking for over a decade, from the same doctor, operating at the same location? To me, this is unwarranted, unacceptable and most certainly ill-regarded. As a woman in her 30s, I would hope that I was "age appropriate" to determine the proper effective dosage of the medication that I've been prescribed to for FIFTEEN YEARS (!!!) by the same doctor, in the same location, that I am so confident in, that I flew from Austin, TX to Den to see my doc, that's how exceptional she is.

My insurance recently changed. When I called Caremark and they referred me to Specialty - I literally have spoken with 10 different people because they keep telling me different information. I took two days off from work to get this resolved trying to get my medication. Each representative had a different "plan" of how I am to get my medication which I need immediately. Even after two days of constant phone calls I DO NOT have my medication, now they tell me I need PA which I was already told by two of them I did not need. I am BEYOND frustrated. I am to the point where if I knew who to call next I would just to make sure this doesn't happen to someone else. They are either completely untrained or trained to make sure I don't get my needed medication! I am OUTRAGED by this and encourage everyone to contact the BBB.

I've been using a generic medication for a chronic condition for 7 years. My health insurance, unfortunately, changed for 2018. I now have my prescription benefits through CVS Caremark. I had NO IDEA what a huge change this would be. Apparently, Caremark has decided to limit the amount of my medication. No one told me this when I dropped off my prescription even though it's a new change that all employees knew about. No one told me this after the insurance came back requiring prior authorization. I found out when I had someone try to pick up the medication the next day. They had the prescription for 30 hours at that point - yet no one thought I should be informed.

Oh - and the new policy re limitations for this particular medicine becomes effective as of February 1, 2018. Am I missing something here? I am pretty sure that it's still January. I was told that they had contacted my Dr's office right after I dropped off prescription - and again the next day - requesting information in order to process the prior authorization. Not true. I called my Dr and they were not happy when I told them that CVS was blaming them for the delay. My Dr immediately contacted Caremark and spent about 20 minutes on the phone in order to obtain a prior authorization.

As of 5:57 p.m. today, the prior authorization is still pending. I've had to obtain prior authorizations before (for specialty medications) while using Express Scripts - immediate approval after speaking with doctor. I was told that the approval might take up to THIRTY DAYS to receive. Absolutely ridiculous. I was told that I could pay for medicine out-of-pocket (by 3 different individuals) and then get reimbursed when I receive my authorization. So, I did so a couple hours ago because I will be out of my medication tomorrow around noon. Now I've read that this is most likely untrue - I am now out $$$ because they lied to me. VERY UNHAPPY.

Needing meds on time is out of the question with CVS Specialty. They are not proactive - they wait for you to call to see if they're on schedule or planning to fulfill prescriptions. They do not allow you to call into someone you've previously had conversations with. Every time you call you take the first 10 minutes rehashing your situation. Huge waste of time - incredibly frustrating - causes severe stress for something that should not be difficult. Lots of back and forth - probably the worst experience I've had - nearly left me in tears.

I had dealt with CVS Caremark for a number of months for a very expensive medication. I was being helped with the copay by the pharmaceutical company, so my copay with Caremark was $10. I refilled with text, and was sent my medication as usual, only to be followed up with an $800 bill. The pharmaceutical company had maxed out my copay. Caremark will not call you ahead of time in such a case to ask if you still need it filled. When I spoke to a representative to complain, I was told there is no “complaint” department, but would make a note in my file. They have since turned me over to collections. My advice - buyer beware.

I had been getting a specialty medicine with no issue from my retail pharmacy for a year when my health insurance company decided to switch it over to CVS Caremark mail order. I spent about a month setting up my account and my prescription (they could not just take the existing prescription from the store along with the copay coupon.) When I initially gave them my information, someone took my birth date down wrong and when I called in again, I was asked my birth date. Since it didn't coincide with what they erroneously took down, they said they would have to talk to my insurance company to verify. Then, I called again. An operator corrected it based on my word. (Thank God for her!)

After many phone calls, I called about a week out to make sure all was well. I was told my prescription was not written right and to contact my doctor and have her call. I did, and the doctor said they told her there were no problems on their end (what?!) A day later, a CVS Caremark rep called to let me know my prescription would be sent overnight, and did I want a sharps container as well? I said yes. The next day, my prescription (which is normally one cartridge) came in two smaller milligram vials and there was no sharps container.

This was late on Friday, so there was no way to contact the doc to resolve the issue. There is no way I can administer this medicine as it is in a different vehicle (vials vs. cartridge). I called CVS Caremark to try to determine what could be done and they said to contact my doctor (gone for the day) and that they would only take the medicine back if it wasn't my fault as determined their recordings of phone discussions. Thanks guys!

I have spent over 4 hours trying to convince pharmacy to send the medication. First they did not even show the prior auth approved and I had to pull it out of their own system. Second the drug requires a load dose which is exactly the same as the regular medication but taken every week instead of once a month. They won't send me the medication because the Dr sent in for a load dose and the prior auth is for once a month. So I told them to send me the one shot, and they still will not do it. They were supposed to call the Doctor and did not, they were supposed to call me back with status twice (different managers) and they do not. Absolutely horrible customer service.

Fifteen frustrating minutes later, I was transferred. I asked why and was told this is the department that handles my affiliation.

After another 10 minutes she located my photo submissions. She said that one (1) of them had an item that was illegible or wrong and they’ve reached out to my physician. I asked why wasn’t I alerted? Why weren’t the other meds processed, or annotated as received? She said, "it didn’t concern you, it’s nothing that you can fix, we don’t do it that way." She added, "but you can go to a local pharmacy and get a partial fill until we can get this resolved." I abruptly asked her to cease processing and close my mail order account. R. G of Lancaster MA, I feel your pain. I am also from MA, maybe that's the problem. LOL. I get a monthly script for 720 tablets (long story). I picked it up on 9/22/17 no problem. On 10/26 I was told I needed a new prior auth. It had never been issue before, so I wasn't worried. This time it was denied for quantity limit. My doctor submitted the reason for the quantity. Still denied. We filed an appeal, denied, 2nd appeal, denied, external review, denied. "External" yeah right. It went to the same address as the others on a Friday and was denied on Monday. They approved me for 360 tablets every 75 days! Big whoop. They dated my approval for Oct 26th. I feel I should have been able to get the 360 tabs right away. They said to me on the phone, I had to wait 75 days from the last fill, or Dec. 5th. (Now, I didn't make up that date - LOL - I didn't know off the top of my head, while I was on the phone with them, what date was 75 days from 9/22).

So I went to the pharmacy on Dec 5th to get my medication filled. DENIED. I called CVS Caremark and they said, "we will get you an override so you can get your prescription tonight." It wouldn't go through so he spoke with his senior rep. who said that because I had gotten 720 on 9/22, that was essentially a 150 day supply and I couldn't fill again until Feb 3 2018! They also said, as with your situation, that my doctor is the one who authorized the 320 tablets for 75 days which is NOT true, that is all they would approve. Like you said, how can THEY determine that what my doctor is prescribing me is too much? I told them that this is completely unacceptable. How can they count a prescription that was filled on a prior authorization from a prior year, Oct 4, 2016-Oct 4, 2017 against a quantity limitation for a prior authorization dated Oct 26, 2017-Oct 26, 2018?

For one, when I picked up my medication on 9/22 I didn't KNOW that when I WOULD go to get it in a month they were GOING to limit my quantity. Two, when I went to get my medication in Oct, it was because I was OUT of medication from Sept. Three, the quantity of medication in Sept was ALREADY authorized, so they can't count it against a FUTURE authorization. Then to top it all off, I get a letter stating that they are PLEASED TO INFORM ME that starting in Jan 2018, they are cutting my script down again to 180 tabs every 75 days! So, if I was approved for 360 tabs, but can't get that until Feb. 3 but they are cutting it down to 180 in Jan, that tells me they NEVER intended on giving me 360 tablets!!

They are shady crooks. Every insurance plan through my employer uses them. I checked into my husband's insurance, and they use them too. There is no way around them. I filed with the Mass. Dept of Insurance and they told me I have to file with the Group Insurance Commission who oversees my insurance. I contacted them and they said I have to speak with CVS Caremark. This is RIDICULOUS! There has to be SOMEONE above them! If I could give them less than 1 star, I would!

With a 90 day supply already in hand I contact customer care and they agree to hold the refill until I advise them of need. The next morning another email telling me the order is being processed. Once again I contact customer (no) service and am told the doctor sent in a new script so they filled it. Okay... Since I started taking this med to get the dosage needed I take one and one half tablet. The manufacturer now makes the tablet in a single tablet of the dosage I take. Apparently refill #1 was the last refill. After Caremark refilled it, they initiated the "Auto Renewal" of the script and when the doctor sent the new script in for the same medication, same dosage but different size tablet they went ahead and filled the script with the rationale that it's a, "new" medication.

Can anyone else see the lawsuit potential here? Good thing I'm on the ball - conceivably someone could've been in the same situation illustrated as above and mistakenly take double the doses via the "refill" and the "new" meds sent within a two week period. As it is, this bulk of medication I've paid for - as required via a pre-filed credit card - will expire long before I run out. Brilliant!!

Instead of sending one prescriptions my husband has two new bottles of medicine plus the one he is still working on. I called and asked why they are sending an extra bottle of pills, the rep I was talking to said she didn't have an answer for me, that maybe my husband was forgetting to take his meds. We are forced to do business with this company. I can't understand why such a big company like GM would do business with a company that obviously is providing such poor service.

I feel obligated to let anyone who is researching CVS Caremark services to be prepared with endless patience and expect disappointment when it comes to getting prescriptions filled. CVS Caremark has drs send in scripts electronically (if the script qualifies) & then hounds the Dr's office over and over asking for more information. Trying to get medication approved for patients ASAP, the dr's office ends up writing an equivalent script (medication by a different company) such as the generic is not being approved, so they write for the brand name. CVS Caremark quickly gets the brand name approved and filled costing me $100 compared to $8 for the generic.

Why would they need so much information from the Dr's office? Not only have I been taking this medication for many years, but CVS Caremark has filled it in the past and was offering to get me a refill by contacting my dr's office. How did CVS Caremark offering to refill my generic script turn into them filling with the brand name script? This gives me cause to wonder if CVS Caremark isn't getting some sort of kickback from specific drugs??? Anyway you explain it, the generic $8 script sent in electronically by the dr is still "on hold"; whereas the $100 brand script (sent in electronically by the dr's office over 1 1/2 weeks after the generic) was promptly filled, charged to my account and mailed out. Of course, CVS Caremark does not accept returns, so be prepared to pay for the most expensive script you hadn't of budgeted for!

Amongst all this chaos, I had many communications with CVS Caremark, & not once did I get more than a cut & paste "generic" reply. 90% of the time the reply did not even address the topic of my concern. I even escalated the communication & got the same cut & paste reply I was unhappy with. Pffft! My guess is that these communications are sourced out and not being answered by people educated in the field of prescription drugs, or in customer service for that matter. Though that is my personal belief, not a fact I have/can prove. My nightmares with CVS Caremark just continue on & on. My insurance does not offer another alternative to get 3 month refills for many of my medications, so I am stuck. If You as a consumer have an option, steer clear of CVS Caremark.

And the customer service representatives I spoke with were SO rude and told me it was my job to call my doctor to get them to submit additional information for pre-authorization. They are awful. I dropped off my prescription to be filled at my local CVS in Silver Spring, MD. I was informed that I could only have 40 of my 270 pills filled at this time (13 days of a 3 pill a day prescription, NOT even 2 weeks worth). I have sat on hold, been bounced around, lied to, treated badly, hung up on. On Nov. 1, without notice to myself or my doctor - CareMark (owned by CVS) decided at a whim that they could simply change and limit the number of pills I could receive of my arthritis medication for pain. For 4 days CareMark, CVS, and Carefirst have jerked me around and screwed with my prescription not allowing me to have it filled to the 3 month supply. (Goodness knows the last place I want to go to every 13 days is the local CVS with terrible customer service).

First I was told by CareMark to call Carefirst; then Carefirst said, "No, you need to contact CareMark," then it was that CareMark needed an authorization for the 270 days from my doctor (who supplied it via electronic portal), then it was, "No we need an appeal." Carefirst is like, "It's CareMark," CVS says, "It's Carefirst." I pay these clowns $996.00 per month for my health insurance and they won't refill a prescription I have had for 4 years. Not to mention that CareMark/CVS took a "stand" on ** on Nov. 1 (WITHOUT TELLING THE DOCTORS or THE PATIENTS) that they were going limit it to the 40 pills per month. They said they sent the notification out on November 2nd, but the change was effective beginning on Nov. 1. It's time that this gravy train ENDS. It's time for a single payer system and eliminate this rat race.

Most of the prescriptions I have had are for a month and I get a refill, so I usually don't need a larger size. I also enjoy the ease of placing your order. I like the way they call you when your prescription is ready too. I don't mind waiting for a prescription if it an hour or so, but I would rather come back to pick it up. Also, I think that it is unusually long that a prescription from the company last a whole year. They should change that to 6 months but other than that the company is fine.

The product selection is very good and what the customer wants and needs. The prescriptions are also filled on time and with right drugs. The customer service is very good as well and each customer is greeted as they enter the store. But CVS on the whole doesn't staff the store adequately. They do their best to meet the customer's expectations, and they rarely ever fail to do so. They also get the job done quite quickly. They also primarily sell drugs, which make buying them quite easier. However, sometimes they take quite a while to get your order ready but that is only sometimes though, so no big deal. CVS let us know when they are sending the order so we know it is on its way. When a place does a good job that is what counts to me. I take many things so it is nice to have one place to order what I need. I always get a list with the order so I know what each order, how to use them and any things I should watch for, that could be bad for. But so far they have done a good job getting our order to us fast. So there is no reason that we would dislike them for any reason. I was forced to use CVS because they were the only pharmacy that I could obtain my prescription, and I found it very difficult and frustrating. From the confusing website to the poor support, my experience was awful. They are the worst. CVS had trouble honoring the manufacturer's coupon online. Customer service had no clue and I got the complete runaround. I ended up having to go into the store to speak with a pharmacist. But she had a difficult time, too, navigating the internal bureaucracy. Then, at one point I was accused of faking my doctor's prescription because the pharmacy lost it. They finally found it tucked into a supervisor's file folder. Apparently, she needed to get approval to fill it. CVS Caremark sucks. I actually asked my doctor to change my prescription to get away from CVS. Once my drug became released to additional pharmacies, I immediately moved. I would never use them again.

Delivery was convenient and cheaper whenever I was able to order and pay for a single shipment for 3 months of refills. I could usually get 3 months of meds for the regular price of one elsewhere. Also, customer service was usually helpful and courteous. Service was fine but ultimately had to go back to brick and mortar stores. CVS is best to only use for drugs that don't need to be taken every day or cause severe side effects if you had to do without meds while waiting for refills. They need to work better with a patient's insurance companies to ensure more seamless refills, especially with those meds that are routinely taken. Developing a smartphone application would be extremely useful and likely help with both refill issues and payment/account management. They could provide reward incentive programs or sales/coupons, too. Service was fine but ultimately had to go back to brick and mortar stores.

The first time, they apparently did not like the dosage that my doctor prescribed and charged me nearly $400 for a 90 day supply. I had them change the dosage slightly - and it was a $10 copay. This past month I went to refill my birth control and they wouldn't cover it unless my doctor called in a 90 day supply as opposed to 30 day. My doctor's office did and it was still being declined.

THEY ARE FREAKING BIRTH CONTROL PILLS. And over Labor Day weekend, I realized I was down to one pill of my antidepressant, so I submitted for a refill which is not being covered because it is also not prescribed in a 90 day supply. Do you people understand what it feels like to have to go cold turkey off of this medication?! And then what it feels like when you have to reintroduce it? Why do you insist it has to be in a 90 day supply? I am back at work today and I'm a zombie trying to get through the day. I never had this problem with Express Scripts. EVER. Good experience in general. The company is extremely fast in the orders, usually I need them before two weeks is up and generally speaking they have been on time. The customer support was there when I had a question about the proper amount of dosage for the prescription but was resolved. I would like to have more online options for shipping because they have a standard rate, but having options like Amazon Prime does would be better. Better online website portal environment. The overall experience was fast and simple to order.

Mixed Experience Overall. I liked the convenience factor. They are able to fill large quantities so you don't have to worry about monthly prescriptions. Also do not have to drive to a store and wait in line. But they are too rigid in their processes. I had an experience where a prescription was held up due to red tape. Holding a prescription when the customer explicitly states they are out of pills is dangerous. Also not every representative seemed to grasp what they were truly doing. Prescriptions can mean life or death in some cases and the reps need to be solely about the customer.

I'm also a fan of as few human interactions as possible, so I do enjoy being able to skip a phone call. CVS is convenient but it would be nice is if they could renovate the store near my place. The roof leaks when it rains and I know the poor manager is at his wit's end. Other than that, the website was pretty smooth and I like that I was able to get points on my CVS card.

I am required to use CVS Caremark Speciality Pharmacy for a medication for a very rare illness. I have now been waiting 15 days for the medication I need to help open the arteries in my lungs. I called last week and was told "Boy, you didn't wait long to call." I responded by telling him that they should have received the script 5 days prior at which point he said that he would have the prescription verified and would put a rush on it. Well, nothing so I called back yesterday and was told "Oh, you need prior authorization from your insurance company." I asked why this wasn't done at the same time as the verification and was told they don't do it that way.

I asked when the PA form was sent to my doc's office and was told yesterday! That only took exactly 2 weeks! I received a call from my insurance company today saying the medication was approved and to call to set up delivery. When I called CSP today I was told that the prescription had to be verified by the pharmacist! I mentioned (not so nicely) that that was supposed to happen last week. This is one of the most frustrating things to deal with when you NEED your medication. I realize I am lucky to have insurance, but dealing with a company that they require I deal with is ridiculous.

My prescriptions are delivered on time or I am contacted in a timely manner if there is a problem. However, the website can be cumbersome to use. It can be confusing when all the prescriptions are listed, it could be simplified and made a bit more user friendly. I have used Caremark for mail delivery for over 10 years and never had a single problem until the last couple of years. Unfortunately I switched doctors about the same time and can't be sure exactly where the main problem is, but there is regularly a lack of communication between Caremark and my doctor.

Not being notified when prescriptions are no longer covered by insurance. Customer Service can only be so helpful and if your medication is changed or there's a issue medication will be missed. They have no record of you ever calling them before! Every event is new with no thread connecting previous conversations. Their pricing policy and changing co-pays are just plain ridiculous. This week they called and told me they were shipping three specialty injections to my doctor and wanted approval to invoice me for $300. In May/June 2017, I was informed at CVS that my out of pocket max had been met and received my medication at $0.0 copay with the exception of my ** inhaler and maybe my ** inhaler. I went to pick up my medications in July and was advised that the majority of the medications had a charge. I advised CVS that there had been an error because my health insurance had been called in error but reinstated back to Mar 1, 2017. I then advised that I needed to speak with Caremark to clear everything up.

I called Caremark and was informed that I had not met my out of pocket max. I explained that my health insurance was canceled in error but reinstated. The rep advised that she would send my account to the research department for further review. In the meantime, I am in need of my medicine. 3 days went by and I had not received a call from Caremark. I called them and was informed that the research was not complete according to the notes.

3 or 4 days later, I received a voicemail from Caremark stating that my out of pocket had been met as of 7/23/17 and that the system was showing my medications at $0.0 dollars. I went to CVS to pick up my medications and only 2 of them were at $0.0. I went to the car and called Caremark back. The rep who left the message stated that any medication ran prior to 7/23/17 needed to be re-ran using 7/23/17. The clerk and CVS ran the meds again and the price remained the same. I was extremely frustrated and left the store.

A few days later I called Caremark and spoke with Kathy who advised me that she was a Senior Rep in the Research department. She advised me that enough research had not been done and that she was going to conduct further research and call me back the following day. I never heard from her so 2 days later which is today, I called Caremark and spoke with a rep who advised that my out of pocket max had not been met and that $73.00 was what we would need to spend out of pocket. I disagreed because I had already received a voicemail stating that the out of pocket had been satisfied. The rep said further research would need to be conducted! I told her she had 3 hours to do the research because I am out of my medicines. She called me back in 3 hours and advised that when CVS had reversed my medications out of their system 3 times because I didn't pick them up. I advised that I didn't pick them up because of the price.

The medicines are on automatic refills. She advised that when the meds were reversed at CVS it caused the system at Caremark to appear that my out of pocket had not been met. I advised her that this has nothing to do with me and that I'm the consumer and it's not required of me to know how their system work. At this time I still don't have my medications. I can see why this company has a bad rating. My next step is a civil lawsuit.

A week later I receive a call from the pharmacy that I owe another $448. I said that it's getting really expensive and I don't want to pay that much and asked if I can return the medication, but they said: no. I asked to talk to a manager. I was on hold for 43 minutes. The representative told me that all managers were in a meeting and that he will call me back. He never called.

Next, I learn from my doctor that they received partial shipment of the medication and that they can't schedule the treatment plan. So, the pharmacy withheld the medication and didn't even bother to call me and tell me that. I had to learn it from my doctor. I ended up calling the pharmacy and paying $448, otherwise I would end up wasting $1790 (as I couldn't return the medication). Today, I received this message: "You currently have an outstanding balance of $4,029.33 on your account with CVS Specialty." This is insane. For those who uses this pharmacy knows, that you can never get any medication unless you pay upfront. You pay, they ship. You don't pay, they don't ship. So, in this scenario: Where the outstanding balance can come from?? I have to call again.

I asked why they couldn't just look on the CVS online site. They said each employer has a separate insurance company Caremark site (not true).

Received an email from Caremark stating all prescriptions had been called in by doctor to be refilled (9 each). Then each listed a co-pay. My insurance does not have co-pays on these generic drugs. I called Caremark. They said I had the wrong Caremark site. Transferred me to another site. The woman on the phone sounded like she was sitting on the sofa watching TV, chewing gum and eating, but she did try to help. They kept me on the phone for an hour or more. I finally just said I'll go back to the doctor and have them re-call in the prescriptions.

This happened twice and both times I had to cancel all 9 prescriptions due to the huge co-pays. Then I found out it was because they had Medicare Drug plan mixed up with the Company plan. Incidentally, Caremark 1800 number can look at any prescriptions that are under your name. So, that wasn't true about only the employer's Caremark could look at them. After canceling 9 prescriptions twice, due to filing on Medicare Part D not my employer's insurance, I gave up. I will go to the doctor and have them 'print' out a paper prescription and take it to whomever I want. Don't use Caremark! They have about a thousand locations all saying something different and 'the left and right hand don't communicate'. It's no wonder healthcare costs have risen.

Customer service/appeals on brand name prescription - My son was recently diagnosed with combined type ADHD by his doctor. After being tried on several medications with many failed attempts, we had a GeneSight testing done to see which medications would be compatible with my son. After the testing and trying of new med, we finally found one that worked for him. The only downfall was we needed the brand name Rx and not the generic. CVS required a letter of medical necessity to be filled out and faxed in by his doctor before being approved. No big deal. We had it faxed over only to be denied.

I received a letter stating that my son hadn't met the requirements for the brand name drug because he hadn't been tried on a minimum of 3 generic drugs for his diagnosis. Not only did the letter need to state a minimum of three drugs he was tried on, it also needed to state the contraindications and the dates he had to take these medications. This was all listed in the letter of medical necessity that the doctor wrote out and faxed over.

After calling and requesting to know why he was denied when the letter clearly stated the minimum three medications, contraindications, and dates, the representative argued with me and told me the correct information was not listed in the letter of medical necessity. I had a copy of the letter so I knew exactly what it stated and read it back to her and told her she should have it on file to see for herself. The representative acted as if she was deaf and again stated the correct information was not listed on the letter of medical necessity. After showing my butt, I was transferred to the appeals dept. where AGAIN was told the exact thing that the representative stated. I told the appeals dept that it wasn't right to keep denying my son medication when the required information was sent over in a letter of medical necessity.

I also threatened to get an attorney and sue if he ended up having to be hospitalized for a psychotic episode due to not having the medications he needed to to improper denial. After the appeals dept. pulled up the letter of medical necessity that was sent over, they put me on hold. After a brief 5 minute hold, the appeals representative came back to the line and stated that a pharmacist that dealt with approval/denials had the letter and had also pulled up my son's list of medications that he had been tried on (6 to be exact). After having read the letter and actually seeing his entire medication list, the appeals dept approved the brand name Rx and apologized for all the hassle I went through when it should have been approved to began with. They stated they didn't know why it got denied since the correct information was sent off in the letter.

This has got to be the worst customer service I have ever had. Due to having insurance through my job, I have to use CVS. If it weren't for that, I def would have chosen Kroger or another pharmacy. I have seriously been thinking about switching back to Tricare just so I don't have take my Rx to CVS!

If you are an employer and think you're saving $ with this plan, just expect your employees to have to spend hours on the phone during business hours trying to straighten out this quagmire called CVS NON-CAREMARK!!! Just skip it and get your money’s worth with a comparable or a little better prescription plan that doesn't have Caremark or CVS in the name. What they're doing now actually sounds like it warrants an attorney general investigation - maybe unhappy consumers should be filing complaints with their state's attorney generals. Insurance you pay for that doesn't fill your scripts. hmmmmm...

My husband died. I called Caremark on May 5th to request nothing be sent on automatic refill until I got my insurance straightened out. Today, June 2nd, I called again at 10 AM to make sure nothing is going to ship. I was told my prescriptions did not have any refills and nothing could ship. Then at 1:01 PM, I got an email that said they autofilled 2 prescriptions and they have been sent. So the phone call on May 5th was a waste of my time and I was given a bunch of crap this morning when I called. I called back to talk to a supervisor and got a syrupy, patronizing woman named Kim who did nothing to accept the responsibility of the error on their end. She isn't going to even look into it until next Tuesday or later.

So here's the choice I am faced with 1. Drive back home to get the package they were NOT supposed to send and then miss my husband's funeral. Or 2. Leave the package to cook on the front porch 95 degree Florida sun and might as well put a sign in the yard to wannabe burglar that no one is home because package is sitting on the porch. So risk losing the medication, medication will be cooked from the heat and may lose everything in the house when the crooks see a package not picked up and go to husband's funeral in another state. Caremark told me that I can take more of my time to contact the post office regarding the shipment or suggested I call someone to pick it up.

On January I logged onto my account and changed one of my prescriptions from autofill to manual because I was not going to be needing it anymore. 2 weeks later Caremark sends me the prescription and billed me. I called them and had a painful 30 min conversation which resulted in me having to contact my CC company to fight it. Caremark had the nerve to tell me that I had to pay because THEY have no way of seeing when I actually changed the prescription status... These thieves can see that I did, in fact change it but can't see when I changed it. Therefore it must be my fault... makes sense. So the CC company decided I was not at fault and took the money back. Wouldn't you know these thieves just sent me a bill that literally shows the charge, the chargeback and then the charge again claiming I owe them...

I called them back and what a surprise, they still say it's not their fault and I owe them. So I emailed them and told them the story yet again. Also, today I got a letter from a collection agency about this... all of this over $41.26. DON'T USE CAREMARK.

One day I come home to a package sitting at my doorstep. This package is from Caremark. I've never used Caremark mailing services before. I open the package and there are 3 bottles of medication in the package. Interesting, I get my medications from my local Walgreens. I called their customer service asking why I received this medication. They said my physician placed the order. I said "okay, I didn't approve of this order". They responded that their company policy is that they do not need consent for medications less than $250. I told them I pick up my medication locally and I just had it refilled and wasn't in need of any medication for 5 months.

I asked to return the product. They don't take returns. Well, that's not my problem. They've sent me bill after bill trying to extort money for this medication I didn't consent to receive while denying any fault and refusing to accept a return. Straight up extortion. This also happened in January, negative degree weather, left sitting in a foot of snow. The medicine is supposed to be stored at 70 degrees F. Which is why I pick up locally as their medicine is shipped in a better climate control area. How is this not extortion? Why do they believe they can send me a package of drugs without my consent, acknowledgment or approval? Just because it is their policy, this doesn't make it a legal practice.

Dealing with this pharmacy has sent me over the edge. I started weekly medication injections a month ago. The Rx was transferred from local CVS to the specialty clinic. I had to postpone the start of injections because specialty clinic didn't send it in time, though they had more than a week and they were told when I needed the rx. Phone calls to their number were unsatisfactory with VERY LONG wait times. I chose to have it delivered to local CVS instead of my home, thinking that would be easier. My physician sent in a new rx for a higher dose four days ago. I need it early Monday morning for injection before I am leave town for the week. It did not come in today. The local employees were very supportive, but there was nothing they could do.

I called a locally owned pharmacy, they called to transfer script, and they were able to fill it immediately. What is going on? Does CVS not realize that certain medications have to be given the same time each week? I have experience with many different pharmacies. Thankfully, however, I will NEVER have to deal with this pharmacy again. DO NOT trust them with your vital health needs. They don't care.

The problem is brand prescriptions especially if it happens to be a controlled substance. We have been receiving such a prescription every three months for 20+ years. Each and every time there is a problem and usually it is different excuses each time. Right now we have been waiting for this prescription for over two weeks. I have been on the phone with Caremark and our health plan each blaming the other for this situation. My question: Is there a legal avenue for justice? If so, what is it? I asked if they would still accept my co-pay assistance plan from Biogen. My meds per month are $7,000. The lady said that CVS would honor the assistance. I filled my first med and $2,025 went to the out of pocket for the year. Second time I filled my med the price was $1400 toward my out of pocket. Two days later CVS backed it out toward my out of pocket. I called and they said that I should have gotten a letter in January telling me that they are no longer accepting any co-pay assistance cards toward the max out of pocket from 3rd party payers. I was not prepared for this at all. My meds require blood work every 3 months and MRI once a year. I am not sure if Biogen will cut off assistance.

I am at the end of my rope with CVS. CVS is just targeted drug assistance for specific diseases. This is discrimination at it's best! I have been getting assistance for 4 years and just can't understand why CVS cares who pays for the meds. I did not choose to have MS and there is not many drugs out there that have generics. My sincere belief is that CVS WANTS to make us jump through hoops so that we'll get tired and give up. That strategy worked today. I finally stopped fighting, threw my hands up in disgust, and will pay 15 bucks out of pocket for 10 pills that CVS should have paid for. This year we were forced to change to Health Net and have mandatory use of CVS or CVS Mail Order for pharmacy use in order to receive 3 month fill/refill of medications. This discriminatory practice of mandating patients to use the pharmacy required and not their own pharmacy and pharmacist is deplorable. The last 3 1/2 months since 2017 began, attempting to get medications in order has been a complete nightmare, impelling one to just give up. As a health care provider myself, I find their practices to indeed be malpractice. Due to my complicated medical status I am required to use 2 separate sites to refill my medications. There has been every excuse under the sun for not filling and actually allowing me to run out of medications due to their inability to properly fill medications. This is the problem removing the pharmacist from being a member of a patient's health care team!

The incompetence shown on uncountable phone calls is only described as incompetent! At this point I'm still not sure if all my medicines are en route or not. In emergency medicine we are not allow to make mistakes, we do not accept incompetence in the ED and neither should it be allow in a most important aspect of patient care as Medication. Both Health Net and CVS is competent of both - malpractice and incompetence. They have removed the pharmacist, physician and patient relationship into just pill counters! Who cannot count. Starting January 1, 2017 CVS Caremark has decided that any copay assistance from a manufacturer will NOT go towards deductible or out of pocket accumulation. My 1 life saving drug is $2727.96 per month x 12 months = $32,735.52. I receive $6500/ year copay assistance from the manufacturer. Now here it us March and CVS Caremark has burned thru all of my assistance and my copay that I have to pay is $1795 for 1 month. Next month, April, my copay will be $2727.96 since my deductible isn't met.

I don't go to the doctor usually because I don't get sick. Therefore, I won't meet my deductible unless I pay for meds out of my pocket, which is my entire month income. Who or what agency would be on my side to fight against CVS Caremark? It's past practice that they applied towards my deductible so I would think that would be a start. Any recommendations are appreciated.

Unfortunately, I have had to deal with CVS Caremarks mail order prescription services for many many years. Horrible service every single time! Every time I have to call in, they mess up my order and it takes hours to rectify. My daughter has Type 1 diabetes so this is an ongoing frustration. A few examples: One of her prescriptions was out of refills. I requested our Dr. send in refill prescriptions for all of her prescriptions as well as mine. (Some of mine for allergies/asthma, I refill 1/x per year) A week later every single prescription was delivered to my house with co-pays over $1000, without any verification or authorization and they billed my personal credit card (not Benefits CC). I requested to have most of this shipment returned which at first they claimed they could not. Then they said they could and would credit my CC when it was received. It took 6-8 phone calls and almost 2 months to get this refunded after items were shipped back.

We moved to a different state and 5 yrs later, one of her auto shipments was sent to the old address which required almost 3 hrs drive to pick up. They assured me that they would note not to use this address again but could not removed it from their system. 9 years later, auto shipment was randomly delivered to old address and once again entailed 3 hr drive to pick it up.

Trying to get her glucose test strips filled: They said they didn't have the prescription, Dr.'s office resent it, then Caremark said insurance only covers generic brand. To get these specific testing strips that would Bluetooth to her insulin pump & be covered by insurance, would require Dr. note stating it was medically necessary. Dr.'s office FAX this in. A week later they randomly sent me syringes and infusion sets instead (which I had previously requested a permanent hold on as I was getting sets directly from pump manufacturer and she hasn't used syringes in years) Not only was there no apology but they now said they had no record of this prescription on record at all!!! 5-6 hours and multiple phone calls with condescending personal putting me on hold for 10+ mins at a time.

Call in to have prescription refilled, usually takes 4-5 phone calls. I can and request, they then call and ask how it should be billed (the same way as always and note is on record). Then a week later, call to verify that it is ok to charge the card on file. I could share many more stories like this but overall the personnel they have handling the calls seem untrained. Can never locate previous phone call records in the system, their escalation team is even more unhelpful/talks over you/down to you/wants to argue the facts, and there is never any accountability of their mistakes or changes to the same issues that happen over and over again.

Something has changed at Caremark. I have never in all the years using them had as much trouble as I have had with my last 2 prescriptions. There is no reason it takes 5+ days to process a new prescription. When I could fill it locally I would have within hours. Even more disturbing is when I called the first time I was assured my Rx would ship on Thursday, Mar 16 to arrive by Friday, Mar 17. When I called to confirm on Thursday I was told there was a problem with the Rx and they had left several messages with my Dr. I called my Dr and he had received no messages from Caremark. When my Dr office called to see what the problem was they were told there was no problem, it was just going thru the review process.

Last night I was sent a waybill number saying my Rx shipped yesterday for delivery today but UPS has no record of it. Someone is creating waybills but not actually shipping the product. They have charged me for overnight shipping and I won't receive it until Monday, hopefully. No one knows what is going on at this company. This is unacceptable, unprofessional behavior. CVS Caremark conducts its administration of several prescription drug plans throughout the U.S. It has been proven that CVS Caremark discriminates against certain classes of clients. When CVS Caremark records are queried by customer service, their records are skewed as to support CVS Caremark's position and the records are not the true and correct accounting of all the facts, medical evidence and submissions.

In the matter of testosterone replacement therapy for men CVS Caremark attempts to prevent the authorization and filling of the prescription by instituting medically unnecessary and overly cumbersome requirements, (I.E. Medical evidence beyond the normal and customary medical submissions) on the provide and male patient with almost always results in a 1st level denial.

Yet in the case of a transgender teenage woman that desires to become a man and requests the same testosterone therapy, (and is not a medical necessity as cited from the above case of a male) she needs none of the above described medical documentation or proof of medical necessity, (I.E. Blood tests showing low t as in a man who needs this t replacement therapy). This proves that CVS Caremark discriminates against certain classes of clients, yet serves another class of client without the same internal requirements for filling a prescription.

Beyond the medication decision being between me and my doctor, if Caremark doesn't pay for it as it's not in their "formulary", fine - I'll pay for it myself. I've sent a message to their customer service - I'd like to return the generic and have my money refunded, but we know that won't happen. To ensure they can't fill any more scripts and charge me, I've removed my HSA and credit card info. I will also be moving all my scripts to a local CVS and/or pay for my medication myself.

[Updated 3/23/2017] As a follow up to my experience attempting refill my long-standing script for ** - I spent several hours yesterday being shunted from customer (no) service to pharmacy tech to pharmacist dealing with the issue of my taking brand rather than generic. Ultimately I was told that my $58 charge would be refunded and they would note my file to contact me if any order for ** or the generic equivalent was sent in for mail order fill. No refund as yet.

This morning I got a call from my doctor's office. Caremark has since contacted them and suggested three other ** I could take (on their formulary) in lieu of ** or its generic (gives me hives) and wants to know what ** I've used in the past. How would the Post Office even know my other address? I'm out of the pills, since they won't refill until the very last minute, so they said to get some from a local CVS Pharmacy. I really wonder if anyone at this company really has a clue as to how inept they are? In the meantime, since I am a diabetic, and these pills are necessary to control my blood sugar levels, I wonder if they even care that I might go into diabetic shock. Since they won't send even a few pills out via Fed Ex, but said I would have to wait for another prescription via mail, and even that would take a couple of days to process, they show that they could care less about my life, or health! In the meantime, the prescription that they assured me would be, and "was" sent to Arizona is "out for delivery" to my Minnesota mail box!

Every experience with this company is filled with mistakes, rudeness, ineptitude & misery. Every order has errors, every call takes 45 minutes & every employee you talk to gives you a different falsehood. I have no choice in what company I am forced to get my medication from as I am unlucky enough to work for the State of Kansas which contracts with this massive joke of a company which I think is criminal as they are our insurance provider & the company we are forced to buy from... monopoly???

If you are not forced to deal with them do yourself a favor & don't! They are unfamiliar with the contract with the state & no one will give me a straight answer. My calls have been disconnected when I questioned billing & customer service call notes "disappear". The specialty pharmacy ordering agent actually told me "customer service doesn't know anything". I was told two weeks ago that I have reached my out of pocket max for the year & the rest of the year I will not be billed but after I place my next order I was told I owed 4800.00. No one could find the customer service call center notes or could explain the difference. They promised to get answers & call me the next day but no call was received. Their website for the specialty pharmacy offers no information that is helpful & the parent company CVS Caremark's website is yet again different information. Having my health in their uncaring hands is horrible.

We recently signed my husband up for mail order drug service with Caremark. The very first medication they sent for his blood thinners was something we had never heard of. I had to call the doctor's office to find out what it was. I was told it was a blood thinner, just a different manufacturer. I then received a letter from Caremark stating that the drug was not covered under his plan and to call his healthcare provider for approval. I got someone on the line and they in turn got Caremark on the line. I asked how his meds got changed to a different one without approval. Caremark said it was something I needed to take up with our healthcare provider and the healthcare provider vice versa. A pharmacist was added to the conversation until 4 people were on the line and no one could answer a damn thing.

Bottom line Caremark changed the doctor's prescription to a generic of the generic my husband was already taking and it was covered as a tier one even though not in my formulary book. I asked Caremark why I was even sent the letter and why we were wasting everyone's time. She said she was sorry (didn't sound a bit like she was) and said if I didn't have anymore questions that she had other people to help. Maybe if they hadn't sent the letter in the first place we wouldn't have had to have this conversation! So far we are not impressed!

Imagine my surprise when I was told by a CVS rep this morning that my co-pay for this prescription will now be $200. If this wasn't already a shock to my system the rep stating that it can be $173 if I ordered it today but it will go up. CVS has used this type of tactic in the past with me, (the price varies from month to month they say) and I don't buy into it. I asked them to put a hold on any further prescriptions. I don't believe they don't know the price of the drugs they buy in great quantities wholesale and sell retail at an exorbitant profit. Someone has to stop these type of pharmacies and the only way to do it is to stop purchasing their goods, which I plan to do.

I have fault with them off and on for years over illegal charges to my bank account that they then finally reverse. The latest issue was my Dr sent a prescription with a quantity that did not match the directions. Well they feel that they have the right to correct this based on the directions never considering the Dr might have messed up the directions and sent me my 90 day supply that would actually on last me 30 days. Without informing anyone! Well if they had informed me to the DR we would have realized the issue addressed the problem. Instead I go 20-25 days and I'm almost out and go to get more not realizing what happened. They do the same thing 3 more times me insisting each time they are wrong then they explained that the actual physical prescription sent from the DR said ** which only gave me the 30 days but the quantity the DR ordered was 45 which would have given me my 90 days. So now I know what happened.

I reach out to the DR Office who got on the phone with CVS Caremark to solve the problem. Then my prescription sat for three days saying "being processed", so I call and find out no reason just stopped. Then they cancel and resubmit the prescription they worked out with my DR. A day after I'm out of medicine. Now I'm being told I need a new prescription is needed which magical came in while on the phone with the Executive recovery team. No 2 weeks and they say they have no idea when I can have my medicine that I have been without for 2 days already.

I have been dealing with CVS Caremark for 4 days now. My son has a serious infection, for which antibiotics were prescribed. When I went to the pharmacy to get his prescription, I was told he didn't have prescription coverage. After trying every insurance possible (I have United healthcare for medical & CVS Caremark for prescription) I was told he was still NOT covered. I contacted CVS Caremark and they confirmed that he was not covered for the last 15 months. I asked why not and they blamed my employers benefits department. I was told to contact my HR department or United healthcare. I contacted United healthcare (my HR department was already closed) and they told me it was CVS Caremark I needed to speak to.

I called my HR department the next morning and they said they didn't show a lapse in coverage. That they would resend eligibility paperwork to CVS Caremark and that it would take 24-48 hours but that they would escalate it. I tried to pick up my son's prescription the next day and still a NO. I called CVS Caremark and again they blamed my HR Department, so I called HR. They said it was a priority and again, they didn't see a lapse in coverage, to contact CVS Caremark. I called CVS Caremark AGAIN, and they told me they had my spouse as my child, and my child had no coverage. I asked how this could happen if I've been getting insurance deductions from every paycheck (I told my HR Department the same thing) and they said they didn't know but admitted their mistake.

So I keep calling CVS Caremark for 4 days now (HR for 3 days) multiple times and all they do is apologize and say they understand, meanwhile my child is sick without any medication. So I finally get a call saying it's been resolved, go to the pharmacy and still CANNOT get my son's medication. I called both departments back and they're saying it's gonna take another 2 days! If I've been paying to have coverage, why are they taking their time to fix their mistake? Both departments have admitted mistakes on their ends but keep pointing the finger at each other as well (every time I speak to a new representative, I get a different story). Finally, Caremark stated my son has not had coverage since December 31st 2014, THAT'S TWO YEARS!! Why pay for insurance if they can cut you off whenever they choose to?

I'm disgusted with the customer service with CVS Specialty Pharmacy. My son and I have a prescription for ** and have a ** Co-Pay card that covers the script and bills us only $5. With that said... EVERY time I deal with the customer service they are completely lacking the necessary ability or skills for a very simple procedure. They are incompetent with all aspects of the process, from beginning to end. I cannot ever get a knowledgeable person to do these 3 simple things, Setting up the account (Run the ** as PRIMARY) - SHIP the ** - AND BILL CORRECTLY for the **. Shame on you CVS Specialty Pharmacy! What is the point of having customer service if nothing gets accomplished? All that has happened is a very frustrated customer that cannot receive the medication that can improve the quality of life for my son and I.

I would rather wait on the phone for 3-4 hours to receive a COMPETENT customer service rep. But instead you have nothing but INCOMPETENCE! I could summarize each and every mistake on behalf of CVS and would love to talk to SOMEBODY in upper management but there is NEVER a Supervisor or Manager available or EXIST? So if there is upper management, I hope you read this and do something about your horrible service. I wish I could switch to a different pharmacy but this is the only one that works with ** Co-Pay card. So where does that leave me, the customer? Basically screwed! Today I called due to a $4,120.00 bill that should only be $5! The customer service rep. response as they always do is they are sending the account to upper billing dept. and wait 24-48 hours. I have done this process SO many times with the same end result, NOTHING gets fixed, just back at square one. (This is only one example)

Is this acceptable CVS pharmacy in your eyes? I tell you one thing, I will NEVER step foot in a CVS pharmacy store front again! I will spread the word to all my friends, family, social media that this is the WORST company to work with and should be shut down due to TOTAL INCOMPETENCE! Then when I returned the following morning, I was told the Rx was NOT in stock, but it had been ordered. When I mentioned that the pharmacy clerk "yesterday" had indicated the medicine was in stock, I was told I was wrong & that the clerk had never said such a thing. I asked that clerk, "Were you there yesterday?" The answer was, "No, but it's still not in stock. What do you expect me to do? (with a tinge of sarcasm)"

The local CVS never has my meds, and they take forever to fill my prescriptions. AND they are more expensive than the other pharmacies in the area, with horrible service to boot! I HATE "networks" where companies make deals in their own interest, and thereby limit consumer choice. Ultimately, it traps us in bad relationships with terrible companies like CVS Caremark! Seeing all these negative reviews, I thought I would share my positive experience with CareMark. I know that the health care industry is notorious for taking advantage of people, and I fear a 5 star review in midst of a sea of 1 star reviews may seem like fake, but I also don't want people to get discouraged without even trying to appeal a denial. I've had CareMark for over 2 years now, and never really made a hard demand from them until recently. The usual and typical antibiotics and prescriptions were filled without issues, according to the co-pay they have listed on their formulary.

The most recent problem was, when they denied coverage for the brand name of a medication for major depression. I've been taking the brand-name for over 2 years, and I've been filling it with a special-arrangement payment system, so never really bothered trying to get it through CareMark, until now. The denial was immediate, and the brand name was not listed on the formulary at all. I tried calling them, and after multiple transfers, I was told that there is nothing they can do to override it.

I definitely have to agree that the hold times were ridiculous... I was on the phone for over an hour just waiting for a representative. I asked them for an appeal process, and they provided me with a fax number for my prescriber to send an appeal letter to. They don't even have an official form or anything, but I asked them for specific guidelines: What information should be in the letter? Should I include my member ID? What about my DOB? What other info usually helps? What is the turnaround time? Is there any way to expedite the process? Are appeals usually approved? What are the reasons for common denials? I also googled "how to write an appeal letter," and made sure that included all the info necessary.

Apparently the way to have the appeal process expedited in NYC is to write in BIG RED LETTERS on the top of the letter, "URGENT." Quaint. Thankfully, I received an automated phone call saying that my appeal has been approved for the duration of 1-year. My doctor's letter stated the medical necessity behind the brand prescription, and the generic versions I have tried in the past and why it did not work. Considering that CVS CareMark does not have a contract with the manufacturers of this brand name drug, I was really grateful and pleased to think that perhaps CareMark does indeed care about the well-being of their insured. I really don't know how to else to interpret it - they're not getting a discount on it, so essentially they just agreed to pay for this expensive brand name medication that costs over $1,500/month, just so that I can continue my treatment for major depression.

I'm not sure if this is a very rare case, like a needle in a hay stack. As mentioned above, this was the first time I had to make a heavy demand from CareMark, so I cannot say as to whether these approvals are common. Nonetheless, I am very thankful that I can at least expect to get coverage for the brand name drug for a year.

Have I had any symptoms that could be related to the side-effects of the medication? Since taking the medication, has my condition improved or worsened?! They can't get my personal information correct, cannot find me in their system, are asking me stupid questions pertaining to medication I have not yet taken, and I am supposed to trust them to get me the correct medication, in the correct dose, in the correct time frame?! I needed a refill from a compounding pharmacy (I've had this same medication made at this pharmacy since 2009) and it was always covered at least 50% by the old RX company with my insurance. Now they switch to CVS Caremark and they tell me I have to pay 100% because one of the ingredients is NOT FDA approved. What a load of **. It is just hormones. I use bioidentical (which have to be compounded). They are made from plants. I refuse to use the hormones that most doctors push on women which a main ingredient is pregnant horse urine. ONE: I don't want to put horse pee in my body. TWO: I don't want some poor pregnant animal being tortured. I don't fill this RX except once every few years (I only use them when things get bad for a few days as I have other health issue which makes taking hormones constantly dangerous).

Then the 2nd thing was the quit smoking patches. I found out they were covered and could be reimbursed. I called to find out in detail what I needed to send. I followed their instructions to a T. Only to have them send it back weeks later telling me it was sent to wrong address (I sent it to the address their customer service told me to send it to). Then they mail back copies of my ONLY original receipt and Dr. RX. I call them again. They say fill out the CVS Caremark form and send it to them. I said "what about my original receipts that you kept." They said, "Oh we have those, it will be ok, just send CVS the copies we sent you." I did that, only to be refused yet again weeks later by CVS citing I must send originals.

OMG, what a load of crap, this is just a GREEDY company trying to get out of paying for anything by making it impossible and such a hassle to get your meds. I am infuriated even more by the fact that people older than me (like my mom) and people with life threatening illnesses that need medication to survive are more than likely being treated like this too. In my case, I just had to pay 100% for my stuff, despite the money I obviously waste for this worse than useless RX plan (I will be looking elsewhere next year when open season comes around for a plan NOT covered with CVS **).

Why do they call themselves CVS CAREMARK??? Just change it to what it really is CVS DEATHMARK, because after reading some of the reviews of poor people with cancer that they are screwing over on their meds, they don't CARE about nothing but MONEY. Human life is just worthless to them, cause God knows those CEO paychecks and bonuses are what they consider important. So what if people die??? Well, I hope you all are wearing asbestos suits, cause my understanding is it's REAL HOT in HELL!! Shame on you CVS BSMARK!! :(

My wife is traumatized by fear she will not get her needed medication on-time and nurse to administer her needed blood-plasma. We contacted Caremark January 6, 2017 and are still getting the runaround by their inept and siloed Specialty Pharmacy that has had us contact our Doctor on numerous and separate times to obtain authorization and prescriptions for the amount of medication, equipment, up to and including band-aids and cotton swabs that can be purchased over-the-counter under the pretext that the State of Illinois requires this level of minutiae.

Instead of having a checklist listing the required meds and equipment so only one call or fax be sent to our Doctor, we continue to call our Doctor and separate Caremark representatives to try and complete the order. Well, it has been 10 days and my wife continues to get the runaround with demands for more prescriptions and authorizations. Her infusion is this Thursday, January 19th and it appears she will not be receiving her much needed infusion.

God only knows when "We Don't Caremark" will get their act together and get my wife her meds. Meanwhile, she is anxious, worried and fearful she will get sick and end up in the hospital. In sum, I wouldn't recommend "UnCaremark" to anyone. Their service is atrocious and their Specialty Pharmacy totally uncaring and inept. All they can say is "we're sorry". Well, both me and my wife are sorry the Company contracted with this bunch of incompetents. Stay away from this lousy outfit. After about 6 phone calls and tons of frustration with their customer support reps, I was told that my medications would arrive today 1/11. Needless to say, that did not happen! Upon calling yet again and being placed on eternal hold, the only answer that the Pharmacy rep could give was that she had no idea why my order wasn't shipped! I asked to escalate to a supervisor and her response was that I needed to call earlier in the day in order to reach an escalations rep???

I am baffled at the lack customer service and the fact that the face of this company don't seem to care. At the very least you would think that they could offer an apology for the inconvenience of me having to call back to police medication that I am paying dearly for. And what's worse is that I don't have the option to go anywhere else to have it filled! End of story, I still have no answers except that I will need to take time out of my busy work day to spend another half hour to figure out what has gone wrong during the last seven calls to this joke of a company!! Some of us live in pain daily and need medication just to make it from day to day. It seems that this company would try to be more efficient since I'm sure that's something they hear every day!!

After 48 hrs w/ no call, I call back and am told they don't have the information, frequently disconnected, give info again, told to expect scheduling call. Repeat ad nauseam for wks on end. Finally I happen to get someone who managed to actually put all the info into the system and schedule the delivery. Received medication yesterday - with no supplies. Medicine is powder in vials that needs to be reconstituted and given via injection. CVS sent vials only. Company and pharmacy insert describes "kit" that patients should receive - which includes all supplies. It is specific enough to describe number of each item, size of syringe, gauge of needle etc.

CVS's response is that insurance has to approve the supplies after Dr writes a prescription for the supplies! Pharmacist will call me back - ha ha ha. I'll stand by CVS! My son has had to take many specialty medications that require infusion, injection, reconstitution etc over the years. Until we were forced to use CVS Specialty to get the medication we have never run into this level of pure incompetence and total lack of caring. I am reporting CVS Specialty to insurance, drug company, Dr's clinic and everywhere else I can think of to report them. They need to be put out of business.
