Absolutely horrible insurance. Unfortunately this is what my company uses now. I've never had so many issues trying to get prescriptions covered. I'm now being denied prior authorizations for medications I've been on for years. If you have absolutely any choice for rx coverage, do not use this company.

I pay good money for these services but they feel like what they think trumps what a Dr writes. I was written ** by my dr to fight diabetes. With a blood sugar in the 300’s A1C in the 11.1 they feel like they're more qualified than my dr by deciding that it’s not the right medicine for me, so they hit the reject button. Now if something happens because of their incompetence who’s at fault? I need this not because I need to lose weight. But because of my diabetes. I don’t recommend this company. Have to fight for an Rx to keep me alive? What’s the point of having them?

CVS Caremark is an absolute joke. Don't even waste your time trying to work with them, because they will NOT be able to get anything done! I've been trying for 3 months to get set up with them, and yet they still can't process my prescriptions. If you don't believe me, look up their 1 Star status online, and see for yourself. If people could leave zero stars, I imagine they wouldn't even be at 1 star!

My company switched to this garbage insurance a few months ago. They are beyond incompetent & into deliberately awful. You can't actually fill a LOT of prescriptions at their store, CVS, the only place that actually accepts their garbage insurance, because their pharmacists refuse "on moral grounds". It's run by crazy religious-fanatics who don't like people having medicine, so they refuse to fill certain prescriptions. Then their mail order system you're forced to use is a complete disaster. Half the time they literally lose the script your doc calls in, then it takes 5-10 business days for them to start reprocessing it because they have to do re-submissions by snail mail or fax & wait for a response in kind. Then 3-5 days to start processing it. 5+ days to receive it after they finally send it. For a total of almost a month to get a script.
The other half of the time it takes them a week to process the script your doc calls in. And God help you if/when you have to call in & try & get it fixed. They're not even bad insurance; it's a scam. A flat out scam. Do not sign up for this insurance. Whatever it takes to get another carrier, do it. CVS Caremark needs to be criminally investigated & CVS' pharmacists need their licenses revoked by the state they work in before they kill someone with diabetes or something who depends on their medicine to live. I can't stress this enough; they are deliberately horrible, go elsewhere.

This is the absolute worst Rx insurance on the market today. The only reason they are chosen by employers is because they are the cheapest provider. They don't cover most medications, especially name brand, or prescriptions that actually work. My wife and I both have issues getting our prescriptions filled every single month. Heaven forbid our doctor writes a new prescription. We do not have a choice in using them. That is what my employer chose and now stuck with them. I've called them numerous times only to go in circles, my doctor's office is losing their mind, and the pharmacy is just as frustrated. If you have an option to go with another provider I highly recommend you take it. You'll be sorry if you don't.

My company switched over to CVS Caremark mail order pharmacy and I sent in all my prescriptions. They decided randomly to contact my doctor and try to have a prescription changed to something else. I don’t know what pharmacies ever done such a thing. It’s a cheap drug for blood pressure and they had the nerve to try to have them combined the strength instead of two pills a day one in the morning, one at night to one stronger pill in the morning Without my consent when the doctor called me and was concerned that maybe this was some sort of a fake call.
I called Caremark pharmacy and they said yes they were just trying to save me money. I told him I need this drug. Why are you waiting on this and then they said, "Oh it won’t be shipped for a few more days." I said I need this now and they promised me would be here. Now It’s late and they think it’s lost in transit. I said I need to go get this medication and they said they can’t because it’s already been sent and so therefore they can’t give me an interim week worth. This is really horrible service.

I went through my doctor and insurance to get a prior authorization approved for Zepbound at my co-pay cost, but what I received was not my prescription co-pay cost; the insurance only reduced the price by half and still left me with a ridiculous astronomical cost even with the manufacturers discount card. I honestly believe the insurance and pharmacy companies would prefer having obese members who will never be healthy, so they continue to have medical issues. My highest co-cost should be no more than $225 per script. Yet I am paying over $500 plus for NO Zepbound discount.

I take HIV medication where you can't miss a dose, right have never paid a penny under my old carrier but CVS Caremark wants $1200 Co pay. That's more than half my monthly ssdi check. No one at CVS Caremark seems to want to do anything to help. Horrible people. Horrible customer service.

My Dr had sent them pre authorization and all the necessary documentation to show them that this medications are very important for me and CVS Caremark don't care at all. I would give CVS Caremark 0 Stars if allowed. Unfortunately, my company switched insurance companies and I had no choice but to use CVS Caremark for a pricey prescription. My issue is that the company processed a payment of $230 from my debit card on Jan 17th, when I removed this as a form of payment and replaced it with my FSA account. Numerous calls to CVS Caremark and speaking to their Senior Account Resolution team and my funds are not back in my checking account a week later.
I asked for an explanation from the numerous representatives and supervisors that I spoke to, and not one could give me an answer. I was advised this matter would be resolved and my funds would be back in my account in 1 business day, and that did not happen. If this happened to me, then I can assure you it has happened to other customers. I will no longer be using CVS Caremark and have transferred all of my prescriptions to another pharmacy (albeit it will be more expensive), but I refuse to give CVS Caremark anymore.

Unfortunately, employer's insurance requires dealing with CVS Caremark - so no choice but to attempt to deal with them. I have been trying to register on their site for 3 weeks. I was told to contact the benefits office. That was done, everything is in order on the company's side. Still can't register. Call back - told the same thing - contact benefit office - over and over and over again. Benefit office has done all they can - The failure is on the Caremark side. It shouldn't be this hard to register on a stupid website to get your prescriptions filled. I wish there was a less than 1 star rating.

Go elsewhere if you can but most likely you are locked into them due to your insurance plan which will bring you to this site as most likely you've already been screwed by them and the handling of your needed prescriptions. My doctor sent in a script to the CVS mail order pharmacy however the pharmacist decided that he would wait to talk to the doctor before filling it since the new script had a dosage change. What an IDIOT! In today's healthcare, Do you think doctors have the time to respond to such nonsense?
On this logic, I would assume that if I was prescribed a new medication that idiot would not fill it either w/o speaking to the physician since I wasn't prescribed it before, right? Stupidity! This is the logic they use at Caremark and if you ask for a supervisor they are as efficient and bright as a rock. I dealt with a sup named Tonya for 45mins, Sup named Tammy ID ** 30mins, account coordinator Marshall ref #** (lied and said he was Tammy's boss and refused to give me his ID#), a CSR Vicki who refused to get me a supervisor again, a CSR named Olivia and a CSR named Monica B who needs to clean out her ears and should not be answering the phone-along with her supervisor Kerry (who I could not talk to directly only via the useless Monica B).
I also asked what state they were headquartered in last week when I had questions about my prescription plan and the rep refused to tell me. Absolutely ridiculous and ZERO common sense as you can Google and find it out the exact address but their reps wouldn't disclose the State? People please continue to complain and file your grievances on this sad and pathetic pharmacy.

Another BIG company that just doesn't care about their customers. Sadly I was beginning to think well of CVS as a mail order pharmacy until my Medicare Part D Provider changed from them to a different mail order Rx provider. As 2023 came to a close CVS assured me twice that they were going to refill my scripts one more time. Then on Jan. 1, 2024 they just threw out all member info and order status as though I never existed. Too Bad... Sucks to be You! No Notification, No Order Cancellation update. By the time I realized that my needed refills were not coming my account was inactive and I needed to have new scripts written by my Dr (s) and transmitted to the new mail order pharmacy. There is one problem after another with them. They also make it impossible to contact and when you finally get a hold of them they have no problem lying. The most recent example, I still have a medication that they say is delayed in shipment now for about 3 weeks. They blamed it on the holidays but they say they shipped the order Dec 28, the tracking numbering USPS says it wasn't delivered to them until January 8. How are the holidays involved in these dates? With other orders they confirm receipt almost immediately and say they are working on it. But then you don't hear anything for weeks and then you get a letter via snail mail saying that they cannot process your order for some inane reason. My Dr will no longer work with them because they keep screwing up things related to insurance coverage.

I took a prescription from my doctor to CVS as I have CVS Caremark for my prescription insurance. 2 hours later my insurance was still pending, I contacted Caremark and was told they needed to get pre authorization paperwork from my doctor and then they would decide whether or not it would be approved. I was informed that this process usually takes 3-5 days for them to decide once they receive the information from my doctor. Who do they think they are? Not only can I not get my medication for a week but I have a prescription from a board certified physician which should be enough. These people are nothing more than bean counters and do not care one bit about the customers using their service! If you have a choice do not select Caremark, I will be petitioning our HR department for different coverage this year as well.

If I only got a one month supply of meds, but was charged the same as three months, where did that extra money go? It would have been cheaper to use another pharmacy, so do your research.

If you transfer from out of state to CVS Caremark, they will disregard your maintenance drugs based on what you were prescribed previously and require your doctor to get pre-approval based on generic provisions and not your health history. This means they will not care if you die before making your doctor try something else to save a buck for the corporation that chose them. I've had to go elsewhere 3 times now, even though I'm paying for their service. It's ridiculous my doctor's opinion means nothing, since the MBA in charge of the plan has never met me and won't care if I die, even though he saves a few dollars on a drug.

CVS Caremark Mail Order Pharmacy is absolute worst. They cancelled my prescription 4 times, told me my eligibility expired, put me on holds for calls for more than 2 hours each time. They had me call my benefits, but would disconnect the call as soon as someone wanted to speak with them. It was a nightmare to navigate their system - I went without medication for 4 weeks and the issue is still not resolved. If there was a 0 rating, or negative rating, I would have given that.

I've been a CVS Caremark customer for years and my experiences have gotten worse and worse. But this last was the final straw and I will never use them again. Weeks before my prescription expired, I made sure my doctor sent it in. I even set it up to auto-refill hoping for maximum efficiency. As my meds were about to run out, I checked and saw that they were going to be refilled on that day. Thought that was good. But they never showed up. My meds ran out and I checked to see if they had shipped. The date for the auto-refill had changed to that day. I felt like I was in a bar with a "free beer tomorrow" sign.
The website is an absolute nightmare and calling was almost worse. It took me 20 minutes of answering the same questions over and over to actually get someone on the phone. Then I got to answer all of those questions again. The guy I talked to put me on hold forever. I found out why. He was actually on hold waiting for one of his supervisors to answer HIS call. Since my doctor would be furious if I wasn't taking these particular meds, I told them I wanted them to expedite the shipping. They said I would have to pay more and I said no. This was a problem of their making and they should be paying for it. I got put back on hold for a while. When they came back on, they had an even more ridiculous suggestion.
I could call a local pharmacy, ask the local pharmacy to call this same CVS Caremark phone number and CVS Caremark would have the local pharmacy fill it. Why would I subject anybody else to this hassle. So we went back to just mailing it to me. After a total of 53 minutes of hold and hassle, I thought we had both my meds on the way. But no. The next day, I get a robo-text that one of them could not be filled. I've been without that one for two weeks now. Just pay the extra and have someone competent fill your prescriptions.

I've been a loyal CVS customer for 27 years and have had many bad experiences over the years, but the latest one is the worst. After trying to order 2 refills and ** and ** online a couple of days ago, the website kept shutting down at checkout. So I had no choice but to call them as a last resort. After calling and being on hold three separate times, for 10-14 minutes each (and listening to the loud, irritating music!), I finally talked to the pharmacist and was able to order the meds, with CarePass same day delivery, I thought everything was good. I mentioned to the pharmacist that I had also ordered some store items, and was told they would be delivered together. About an hour later, I got a text that the order has been picked up.
A few minutes later, I heard a light knock on my door and when I opened the door to get it, the man had set my meds in front of the door and was rushing to the elevator. I shouted "where is the rest of my order?" But he didn't answer. I immediately checked my email and it said all items had been delivered but they weren't. So I called to check if I had been charged for the things I didn't get. My account was charged. I then spent 30 minutes on hold trying to contact Roadie corporate office to follow up, but after the extremely long wait, I was given the option of getting a callback, so I entered my phone number.
A customer service rep called me back 2 hours later and said they only delivered the meds and to call CVS customer service about the missing items but after wasting 4 hours of my day already, I didn't have the time or patience to wait on hold again to speak to customer service, so I'm totally disappointed and disgusted with this happening time and time again. I'll try the process of getting my money back again on Monday. I definitely will be transferring my prescriptions to another pharmacy.

I have epilepsy and have recently been forced into CVS Caremark insurance due to my husband's employer. My seizure medication has been covered by past insurance. Once requiring a prior authorization that was approved with Blue Cross and then state insurance. I've been taking this medication for 23 years. Seizure free. CVS Caremark will not cover my epilepsy medications. Either of them. Started prior authorization with my neurologist and tried with my pcp. Within 5 minutes they denied both medications. I hadn't even left my doctors office. That's how quick the denial came.
Obviously they did not bother to look at how this medication was medically necessary to keep me from having seizures. Patient care is not important to this company. I am almost out of my medication and am terrified to start having seizures again. I work and drive far distances. Unlike other common retail, when it comes to medicine, I for one take it pretty seriously. Mail order prescription process here at CVS/Caremark is less than transparent - maybe for a reason. I had to verbally follow-up and found that what is listed was not really where they are in fulfillment. Called about a refill script that said on the web portal they "needed more info from care provider." When I called they indicated that in reality the medication "was out of stock." No options given, just wait and maybe there will be a restock. Had I not called, I would have just kept killing time because they obviously don't care to let you know the facts.

Past experience has been good. CVS Caremark has covered my brand name medication for the past 2 years. My last 90 refill was in June. I've had multiple calls to my Doctor and CVS Caremark. One call to CVS Caremark was 35 minutes on hold while the person on the other ended needed to consult another representative which seemed more like a tactic than trying to resolve the problem.
Each time with CVS Caremark I get a different excuse, which makes me feel like I'm being lied to. They say it's too soon to refill, but I haven't had a refill since June, they say I need more justification from my Doctor despite covering my medication for the past 2 years, then they say they have a supply issue for the brand drug and only have the generic in stock. Lies lies lies. Each time I get a notification that my order is being processed, I then get a contradictory email that it's denied or on hold. This location for the most part has mostly 1 star reviews for good reason. They sold me tainted eye drops a few months ago. Who keeps all their receipts. The FDA just recalled most of the eye drops they sell and the FDA website said CVS will give you a full refund. When I brought the drops back, the cashier was clueless about the recall, I had to hand her a printout of the recall list. There are no eye drops on their shelves for less than $10 and I know I paid at least that much. They gave me credit for the tainted eye drops $3.69 which I know there is no way that is how much I paid. I paid much more. I think they deliberately lower the price for people when they bring back the tainted eye drops. After I got my "gift card" for $8 for tainted drops I most likely paid $18, I went back to the eye drop shelf and there was no eye drops for less than $13. I brought the least expensive eye drops up to the checkout counter and counter is was $16.
The cashier called the manager and he called me "Bro" "You bought the cheap drops." I said, "cheap drops, it says CVS Health, equivalent to a major brand". So I have to assume from the manager's answer, that CVS may have known these drops were tainted so that is why they sold them for so much less than the other brands if I am to understand the manager's reaction and based on the refund they gave me. CVS is a dying company and the manager at this location reflects that. I switch a few years ago from CVS to Walgreens for my medications because they kept requesting refills without my permission and I did not ever approve auto-refill. CVS has been investigated for this practice. I say all beware of CVS. Shop elsewhere.

Every time I need refills, it ends up being multiple phone calls to the pharmacy - they don't answer the phone unless you're a doctor. That means multiple trips to the store where the customer service is horrible. Maybe, instead of spending so much money on PR to try to make themselves look good, the people who run this company should invest money to fix this joke of a pharmacy. People's lives and well-being are at the very bottom of their list of priorities....If they even have a list of priorities. Same again with the next refill order. We checked with the doctor to be sure he had written the prescription correctly. He had. We contacted CVS Caremark Customer Service about the problem. They insisted the doctor had ordered it as ONCE daily.
Our doctor’s office has tried to call the pharmacy line directly and can get no answer. They called the customer service line and were told they have no record for my spouse. So far we cannot get a satisfactory response from CVS Caremark. We will be paying the high co-pay cost more often if this pharmacy continues to deny their error. This is not the first time we have had issues with our RX orders from this pharmacy. And if we use a different pharmacy we will have to pay a higher cost as well. We would not do business with this pharmacy if our health insurance provider did not contract them as the long-term prescription home delivery service.

They’re horrible! It has always been a headache refilling my medication with them. But this past year has gotten 10x worse. The agents don’t know what they’re doing and can’t solve simple problems. I always have to talk to the manager. Even then, I can’t get the issue resolved and have to call back to talk to another manager. A lot of times my medications don’t refill when they need to and I get made up excuses it seems for why it’s “too soon”. Then I do the math myself and realize it isn’t too soon. So are they just incompetent, is their system messed up or are they scamming me? Maybe all three or one of those. Whatever the reason this is really unacceptable. We already pay so much for insurance!

After the USPS notice “delivered” at mailbox popped up on my phone I went to my front mailbox but no prescription. She even checked the entire neighborhood boxes to be sure no mistake. Pii oh at office manager advised I would need to get CVS to handle it since they mailed it.
Prescription was expensive and not covered by my insurance. CVS Caremark unfortunately does not care about its patients and focuses on its bottom line first and foremost. I recently switched jobs and my new employer uses CVS Caremark as its prescription drug provider for its health benefits. My wife has serious health issues, including breast cancer that resulted in her having a double mastectomy and 7 surgeries in the past few years. She was recently diagnosed with uterine cancer and needs chemotherapy. She has two bad knees with no cartilage that require her to get gel shots every six months. As a result, she has a lot of pain and the only medication that has helped and allowed for her to continue to work as a real estate agent and care for our two children was ** (prescribed by her pain management doctor), which Caremark decided to remove from its covered medication formulary two years ago because of its cost.
It is a highly effective pain reliever and is not nearly as dangerous as the other opioids that Caremark has recommended to her instead which include ** and **---two highly addictive painkillers for patients with acute pain (usually prescribed post-surgery that cause severe drowsiness). We have appealed twice to request ** be covered to no avail and now they tell us we have to wait another 30 days for a decision on a third appeal while my wife suffers. We never had this issue with our prior insurer Cigna. It's really shameful.

In April of 2023, CVS Caremark declined to cover my child's prescription and requested prior authorization from her doctor. At that time, we also discovered that they had still been paying this child's prescriptions from my old plan that I left as of January, four months before the issue arose. This was only happening with her and not the five other covered family members. After many phone calls and a lot of time I should not have had to spend dealing with their mistake, her doctor sent the letter explaining that she cannot take the alternative meds because they cause her severe side effects and the authorization was issued. She only takes this medication for school, so I am just now needing to refill it again in August of 2023.
Again they reject for prior authorization and say that in April it was paid under the old plan and the prior auth that was issued in April, the one that says CVS Caremark at the top and says it's good through April of 2024, was somehow attached to the old plan that was already expired for four months at that time. So basically CVS Caremark wants to make medical decisions about my daughter's care, but they can't even be trusted to attach the authorization they requested to a currently active plan. And now I am sitting on hold for 47 minutes and counting while they figure out if they can do me the "favor" of transferring the prior authorization that they attached to the wrong plan through no one's fault but theirs. If you have ANY other choice, do not choose CVS Caremark for your prescription coverage.

I have continual problems getting two prescriptions filled with CVS Caremark. I need Brand specific and not generic. My Dr writes the prescription stating Brand specific. I have tried all the generic and they do not work for me for these two meds. This “dance” with CVS Caremark has been going on for at least 7 years. They say my plan does not cover this med, then the next level up says the medicine is no longer manufactured, then the next level up says, "If your Dr writes the prescription with this wording, etc etc. we can fill it."
Today was another go around but finally they put the pharmacist on and she said the mfg quit making the drug. (I had just checked with another pharmacy last week and they were able to get it but my charge was going to be considerably more which is why I put up with this nonsense). I told the pharmacist she was lying because I had talked with another pharmacy and they could get meds. She then said as a pharmacist, they take an oath and therefore she would not lie. Seriously, she thought that would suffice me.
I am sick of their customer service and I think they just want the patient to give up. Most people would have quit trying a long time ago. I cannot imagine working for a company that is so unethical. I pay for insurance for prescription coverage yet have to fight to get my meds filled each time the prescription expires. Today I have finally given up / it is not worth the aggravation, blood pressure and resulting headache to deal with these condescending, lying, deceitful sorry excuses for human beings. They should be ashamed to work for such a despicable excuse for health care provider. And why BCBS continues to partner with them makes them a complacent partner. Shame on them.
Now I will pay for my meds elsewhere and try to get reimbursement from BCBS. How do much older patients or very sick patients put up with treatment. I think CVS Caremark policy is to wear the patient out jumping thru senseless hoops asking for physician authorization, specific wording, etc. That is so stupid - if the Dr did not think it necessary, why would they have wrote prescription. Anyway, I am not alone with this frustration, CVS Caremark should be avoided if at all possible if you want to retain your sanity!!!

They can't help you so you go to the next level - which incurs a 20-30 minute hold. They try but eventually can't help you so another long hold waiting for the next level of authority. And that's if you're lucky enough not to have your call dropped, in which case, you start all over again.
The red tape and nonsense of their pharmacists is overkill!! After talking to MY neighborhood Walmart pharmacist who I have dealt with for years, I'm now talking to a faceless person on the phone who has no clue who I am and will most likely never speak to me again due to call centers (high turnover as well as your just another person in line fit the next AVAILABLE AGENT). Coughing, and the pharmacists are overloaded and could care less about your health concerns. This is been the worst experience of my life and is exacerbating my condition. My weight has gone from 165 lb to 143 lb. Due to the fact that I cannot get them to approve my medication that they have approved in the past multiple times.
Now I am having to go through the appeal process, whereas my doctor is having to appeal they're denying of my medications. This is the absolute worst company that I have ever experienced in my entire life of dealing with insurance companies. You would think you were dealing with a home warranty company when you call caremark for assistance. Shame on you CareMark and CVS for your bad attitude, non willingness to cooperate with your consumers who pay a fortune to have insurance. Shame on you for treating your patients the way you do and shame on you for not allowing prescriptions to be filled at other pharmacies that one is used to and close to their home.
You are mandating that I go to a pharmacy that has less than a two-star rating and has major crimes in their parking lot on a regular basis. This is an unsafe neighborhood and my second option is even in a worst neighborhood where the crime is at the all-time highest. Again I would never use this company! However, I have been forced to do so through Blue Cross Blue Shield. They have offered a year of credit monitoring. Meanwhile I am continually concerned that I get messages through my credit bureaus that my credit is being viewed on the dark web. THANKS TO BLUE CROSS BLUE SHIELD!
I pray that these individuals who are making these decisions about my medication have family members or children or brothers or mothers and fathers that have mental illness. Then they may understand! I've never hated a company more than I hate this company and how they treat you and how they mandate and demand that you cooperate with their rules. We have no rights other than paying our insurance. My company just switched to Athena/CVS. Doesn't matter who you get on the phone, no one is on the same page nor do they seem to have the same computer system. Contact/communication all over the phone or internet. I've been transferred numerous times, my doctor has faxed over my prescription to 4 different fax numbers that each rep gives me. I was out of pills that I had been receiving in the drive thru for over a year until I encountered this horrible experience. It took me 4 days of calling and finally a supervisor to get my pills shipped to me. No longer the effortless drive thru experience, just a whole bunch of reps that told me a different story every time. Thank God this was not a medication I needed for survival. I am 3 days without taking my pills and still waiting for it to come in the mail. I never received any explanation that this is how my medication was going to be handled for the future. Had I known I would have been prepared.

My job switched to CVS Caremark/Aetna in January to "save money" for the company, but the amount of sweat equity it has cost me (and other employees, pharmacists, and PCPs) in trying to get the same prescriptions I've had for months filled I think it's cost us more. To be fair, this is a combination Aetna and CVS Caremark issue, but in my mind they are one in the same.
Their communication is horrible. They decide you need a pre-authorization, but when they don't like the information, will reach out to your doctor's office over the weekend and then decline your claim because the doctor's office is closed and they didn't respond within 48 hours. They will send you an email telling you how easy it is to track your PA claim, but when you follow the link provided and try to make a Caremark account, it will tell you that you can't because you're an Aetna subscriber.
I've been going around with them for three weeks trying to get my medication and I'm glad that I stored enough extra that I won't die....yet. I've talked with three reps, only one was helpful. They've given my PCP's office the runaround, telling them to call, fax, visit a website and then they are unable to gain access to the information they need. Unorganized and intentionally difficult to navigate -- obviously because they are counting on some people just giving up and paying out of pocket or forgoing medications and treatments. Absolutely disgusting.

Even though no one called me or got my approval. So the original order was one month and they increased it to 3 months and are blaming the doctor's office. I even have a letter that states the original order was 1 month and that CVS increased it to 3 month supply.
So I am stuck with 2 extra months of ** that will go to waste that I cannot give away or sell and an extra $150 due to CVS Caremark's greediness and mistake. CVS Caremark mail-order pharmacy is by far the worst I have ever dealt with over the years. The entire CVS Caremark Team - customer service reps, pharmacy techs, pharmacists - is ill-equipped to handle the most basic matters for customers. They have given me the run-a-round on numerous occasions. It takes them forever to get the information and process a simple prescription order. They do not provide timely and accurate information. If there was any way whatsoever to avoid using them, I would in a heartbeat, even if it cost me more money. The federal and state government regulators should investigate CVS Caremark and its poor practices and insist on a course-correction plan of action.

Once again, the idiot on the other end couldn't understand what I was calling about. I asked for a supervisor. She tried to help me again. After 45 minutes of wasting my time and waiting on hold, I was finally connected to someone else. Supervisor? Who knows. I was disconnected as she was introducing herself.
I had thought about leaving my HSA card on file so I wouldn't have to call again, ever. But after reading these other reviews, no way will I trust them with ANY credit card. TLDR: CVS had a glitch. I paid over $3500, and they refunded less than half.
As a two-time cancer survivor, I must take various medications and cannot afford to miss more than 1-2 doses in a week. When my insurance changed from employer-paid to self-pay via COBRA, CVS's computer system had an unspecified error that meant my medication was no longer covered. To be clear, my insurance coverage never lapsed and I had reached my out-of-pocket maximum for that year already. Before this, I had 0% out-of-pocket responsibility. Because I was almost out of my medications I paid for them myself with a promise from the pharmacist that I would be refunded. This happened two months in a row and cost me over $3,500.
After the system was fixed I submitted a refund request and received a check for less than $650. Several refills had been mistakenly labeled as duplicates, and few if any of the remaining medications received a full refund. Naturally, I disputed this amount, and after a few weeks, I received another check. This one was for less than $750. When I tried to dispute this again, I was handed to the representative who is paid to just tell the caller "No" in as many ways as needed, up to ignoring what I said.
When I called another time I was put in touch with a consumer advocate, who told me that he wished things were different but there was nothing he could do. Apparently, it is company policy to only refund the discounted wholesale amount the company pays, and not the higher price an individual has to pay, despite the fact that the company is at fault for the problem. Most of the people answering the phone were incredibly helpful and friendly, and I understand they were merely messengers carrying bad news. The company policy itself is what is incredibly frustrating and abusive. Cancer is expensive, and if I had not been given money from friends and family to help pay for it my family would have $0 in our bank. This money was not just an inconvenience.

When I brought up this issue by mailing in an appeal, I received a denial of appeal with the same reason as given originally, even though I pointed out that their logic was flawed.

I have been on the same prescriptions (type 2 diabetic) for several years but somehow Caremark screws it up at least once a month. I will get a letter/text/email saying that they can no longer fill a prescription because “they contacted my doctors for a refill but received nothing from the doctor” (paraphrased). So I contact my doctor for a refill only to be told by Caremark that they can’t refill it yet as it’s not due for another 2 months. OH, in the original notice they said I had 5 days to contact my Doctor and get back to them. This could have been a one time occurrence, but NO, it has happened many times.
They say they contact my doctors but there has been no acknowledgement from my physicians that I know of - I always have to do a battle with my renewals. The is the most messed up company, I have ever dealt with. They didn’t used to be this bad but the last 2 years have been horrible. As soon as my insurance will let me switch I will do so and NEVER come back. Apparently their business office does NOT communicate with their pharmacy. HORRIBLE!

We use an injectable medication. It comes in preloaded pens that require special needles. The ones CVS Caremark will cover for no copay are terrible. Over half the time they bend while being used. We spent hours talking to them, the pharmacist, and the doctor about this issue to finally get CVS to agree to covering decent ones that actually work properly with a 40% copay. This took almost a dozen phone calls and literally hours. No exaggeration. But we finally get the approval.
Then discover that the needles that we paid $90 for over the counter, without insurance, would still cost us over $70! CVS claims that's 40% of the price. We price-checked them all over and NO ONE charges almost $200 for these needles. CVS is like those crappy mail jewelry stores that advertise "60% off Diamonds!" but the price they're giving you 60% off of isn't a price that anyone actually pays.
I wish this were the worst thing they've done. Every opportunity they have to fill scripts or charge them in a way that costs us more (and them less), they do it. End of last year when we had met our out of pocket for meds? Suddenly everything was being short filled, for 30 days instead of the "required" 90 days. Back to 90 days as soon as the account went back to paying full copays. We would NEVER use this company if our insurance didn't force us to. (The pharmacy we use is great. CVS Caremark is the issue.)

TWICE in one year a pharmacy staff person canceled my autoship medication because they "thought" it was a duplicate. I take two different dosages of the same medication and my doctor's label clearly states this; if you take the time to actually read and don't just randomly go through prescriptions hitting delete. Apparently they're not paid think or read, but they must get bonuses for rudeness. Twice a staff member who apparently was reviewing medications came upon my two dosages of the same medication, decided on their own it was a duplicate and without verifying and deleted my prescription. I did not know this until I was getting very low and my auto-ship had not arrived. I called and was told initially that my doctor canceled the prescription. I knew that was not factual because I had just been to the doctor.
I was getting nowhere with this person so I requested a supervisor. After 45 minutes another person came on the phone. I will say this is the only one individual I have ever dealt with from caremark that was polite and helpful. Unfortunately you can't call into that person you have to take the luck of the draw. While speaking with this supervisor she determined that someone in pharmacy deleted my prescription thinking it was a duplicate and not verifying with anyone. The supervisor reinstated my prescription and sent notification to pharmacy of their error. Apparently pharmacy cannot be directly contacted, they must make so many errors they would never get off the phone!
The supervisor did this and also requested because she admitted it was pharmacies error not mine to have the medication overnighted to me at no additional cost. I thought that was the end of it, but the next day when my medication did not arrive I called just to verify the records were still there. After having to debate with somebody to look at the notes in the system I again requested a supervisor and sat on hold 35 minutes. When this individual came to the phone he looked at the notes and verified that it was requested for overnight and that it was processing and it should go out the next day. I was okay with this the next day came and then the holiday came and then the weekend came and no medication. Monday morning I called in and literally spent 97 minutes on the phone trying to straighten this out.
A supervisor actually yelled at me and spoke over me telling me that there was no way somebody told me they made a mistake and would overnight a medication. Multiple times I told her to look at the notes and she said she didn't care what the note said the notes were wrong. This continued on for 97 minutes until I finally hung up. It is impossible to call and get to speak with an individual higher than the customer service supervisor apparently that supervisor does not have a supervisor.
I am so glad my husband's company changed prescription drug processing because I no longer have to deal with this. I do however feel for the elderly or the sick or anyone else who has to deal with a system where a random individual can out of the blue cancel a medication you have been taking for years. Absolutely ridiculous! And obviously, they're not held accountable because it happened twice in one year.

Wow - for a specialty pharmacy dealing with time-sensitive medications CVS is an extreme case of failure. They made a mistake by not sending my daughter enough medication - so when it came time to refill they required an exception. It took a week of me calling every. Single. Day. Multiple times during the day. Horrible communication on their side - no one seemed to understand the urgency as by this point my daughter was 1 week late in getting her medication. NOW the next month we are trying to get a refill and guess what... They messed it up again. If only we had a choice to pick a different specialty pharmacy. I would switch so fast.
However, because CVS is our pharmacy insurance we have zero other options. So as a result my child is repeatedly late getting her medication, uncomfortable, in pain, and as we are trying to resolve the issue - guess who doesn't work on the weekends. It seems that more often than not, when our doctor submits a prescription request for my wife for our mail order prescription service from CVS Caremark, there are problems, and rather than CVS just contacting the doctor's office to get things straightened out, they send us a letter saying they are not filling the prescription, and to call our doctor if we have questions. Then we have to call the doctor's office, and ask that they contact CVS and try to get things straightened out. Nursing staff at the doctor's office often related that they find it almost impossible to talk to an actual person and usually just give up and call in a new prescription, hoping it may go through.
This happens almost every time her neurologist submits a prescription to CVS mail-order pharmacy, for my wife, who has Parkinson's. If I want to get my medication at a decent price, I have to use CVS Caremark mail order pharmacy. There are a number of issues associated with this requirement, not the least of which is the conflict of interest that my insurance company (Aetna) owns CVS Pharmacy. It’s important to point out that pharmacies in general have a high ethical responsibility to dispense life-saving drugs to people. I will list below some of the things that both Aetna and CVS do not take responsibility for, and have no ethical standards for delivering medication services to their prescribers:
* When ordering medication, there is nowhere to include special instructions to a pharmacist, such as packaging or questions about the medication.
* Phone calls to CVS to get more personalized information generally results in being transferred several times and disconnected. If you do manage to actually speak with a staff member or pharmacist, the result is a rushed and rude conversation.
* Medication orders take up to two weeks to arrive after ordering.
* Medications arrive unsealed in a plastic bottle, in a plastic envelope with no insulation whatsoever and no dispensing instructions.
* CVS Caremark never includes medication inserts with their mail order medication. Providing this information to patients is required by law in every other type of pharmacy.
* Medications in plastic bottles and plastic envelopes sitting in mailboxes that reach temperatures upwards of 120° in the summertime reduce the efficacy of the medication contained within. CVS takes no responsibility for that fact and does nothing to mitigate the problem. Indeed, if you point out the fact that the shipping mechanism is contraindicated to information contained in the drug manufacturers’ storage recommendations, you’re told you can go to a local network pharmacy and pay 3 to 5 times the amount for the same medication as an alternative. This is a false option for prescribers, as the same medication should cost the same price no matter method of delivery if it is in network.
Patients place a great deal of confidence and trust in a pharmacy when obtaining potentially life-saving medication. When a company has no ethics or guidelines around how it delivers their product, they should simply be put out of business. Everyone should use the mechanisms available to them to wage complaints against this company, such as filing complaints with consumer protection agencies both state and federal. It is outrageous that this company is allowed to practice in the manner that it does.

CVS Caremark does not Care about their Customers and misses the Mark on customer service. It’s obvious that they are driven by profit by their owners: Aetna. Let me elucidate. On Monday, August 2, 2021, my pharmacy called me and said that there was a substantial co-pay on my prescription for ** 250 MG capsule. They recommended I go thru Aetna’s 90 day mail order service deceivingly called Caremark. I called Aetna and was given a phone number that connected me with an outfit called CVS Caremark “Specialty”. Little did I know that this outfit differs from CVS Caremark in that they handle specialty prescriptions (for patients with complex & chronic conditions). The difference is in the copay which I was quoted as high as $180 for a 90 day supply.
It took me until today (Friday, August 6, 2021) to get the order transferred, approved, and expedited with a copay of $3.62! The problem is my supply of medication is running out in a few days and a supervisor by the name of Lori said I would have to pay for expedited shipping which is different from expediting a prescription approval process. So, I’ll end up going without a medication for my auto-immune disorder in the time of a pandemic due to the profit driven folks at CVS Caremark. I feel sorry for the elderly that must deal with the employees of this company.

Last month, I was not able to receive my medicines on time. So, I had to work with the hospital to get 7 day supplies with $200 own pocket money in order to ensure I have my pills on time.
This month, I submitted my refill request on line. Then, I noticed I did not get my refill right away. I called Caremark and they told me they connected with my doctor for refill but did not get response. So, I need to call my doctor. I did and the doctor office felt strange as a patient why I had to call as it was CVS responsibility. My answer is I do not know why but I knew they were never on time. I just want to ensure I get my medicine.
After I got my prescription, two out of 5 medicines was put in a different order. One shows they have questions in one of medicines and wait for the doctor to confirm. I felt so worried because this was the second month I took the medicine and Why did they ask the question last month? If it is really issue, I guess I had already been damaged by this mistake. I called Caremark and they said they were waiting for doctor response. I called the doctor office and they said they had already called. I called Caremark again and they said in their system, it did not show they connected. So, I had to ask Caremark to connect with my doctor office in front of me. Finally resolved.
I was told the second pending medicine will be available to me on Sunday and I need to pay next day delivery fee. Sure, I am ok to pay premium in order to receive my medicine. On Sunday, I did not receive it and checked the system and showed it will be delayed. I had to called Caremark again today and they said I might be allergy to this and they are waiting for doctor to call back. I asked the second medicine cannot be available to me as promised and why they did not ask the doctor when they connected last week. The person told me that when they tried to fill the medicine, they found I might be allergy to it! I did not realized they reviewed the medicine one by one and the issue only identified just before they filled the medicine! Of course, we all know the process causes the delay. What amazing processes I had to go through!

My insurance coverage is best via CVS Caremark 90 day mail service, unfortunately they are the worst. I have had numerous issues with them shipping out prescriptions incorrectly and then I need to mail back the prescriptions for them to then send the correct prescriptions. If the Dr. sends script for branded, they don't call you to understand what is needed if you could change to generic. They just ship it out. Then once you receive it, you need to call, complain, wait for return shipping label (15+ days) and return it. Then wait to receive the correct medications. It's an absolute joke.
If I walked up to a typical pharmacy I'd never have issues like this because you're having a conversation when dropping off the script or before picking it up. Some times they even call you to let you know it's ready. This type of communication doesn't exist with CVS Caremark. Be prepared to spend a lot of time on the phone with them to make sure you get what's needed and it's covered... Oh and also, they request you to reach out to the doctor to send over information updated prescriptions, they do not contact the doctor. You've got to love a company like CVS Caremark. While I don't get a say in who my prescription provider is, it seems that CVS Caremark gets a say in what prescriptions it feels should be covered, instead of listening to the expertise of medical professionals. What's even more hilarious is when the prescription prescribed is a $10 anti-inflammatory cream, and the company I'm sure spent significantly more money denying my claim (that hasn't even hit the deductible yet anyways), then had they just processed the prescription to begin with. These people will NOT budge, and require me to no longer take my meds. The ONLY REASON I'm STILL working is for the health insurance. Over the past week my spouse placed nine telephone calls to various representatives of CVS Caremark Specialty Drug Program in an effort to obtain a new prescription for **. The drug was pre-approved on February 26, 2021. She was notified of this authorization by a letter she received in the mail on March 3, 2021. At that time she made her first call asking the status of the prescription. The wait time to speak with representatives in the pharmacy ranged from 45 minutes – 71 minutes. She was spent a total of 11 hours on calls with CVS. She noted that very time she got a representative on the line, they were universally polite and attentive, but unable to “fix” the alleged problems holding up filling and delivering the drug. When the drug did not ship on the date they originally said, the next set of calls were made at which time new anomalies blocking the order were revealed. Some of the alleged discrepancies delaying the prescription included:
She had no credit card on file – first revealed on another call - information provided.
Her date of birth was recorded incorrectly – previously addressed by an “override”.
Her insurance needed to be confirmed - CVS administers the insurance – Why not done at first call?
Her date of birth didn’t match the date of birth on a co-pay assistance voucher – not true.
There was no location information regarding where the drug was to be shipped.
The telephone number for the prescribing doctor was missing.
There was “missing or incomplete data” on the claim .... and so on it went.
Compounding her frustration with getting the reported problems resolved was the fact that various departments in CVS Caremark Specialty are open at different times (Pharmacy from 7:30am – 7:30pm, PST; but Billing 8am – 8pm EST, and neither on the weekend.) As of this writing the drug may, or may not, be delivered to the doctor tomorrow, two weeks after this odyssey began. The wait times are unacceptable. The inability to get extensions numbers, unacceptable. The inability to schedule call backs in lieu of holding on the phone, unacceptable.

Well that afternoon we didn't receive the medication and we called and they responded it wouldn't be here until Tuesday March 9, 2021. What didn't they understand that she is a liver transplant recipient and needed her anti rejection medication everyday. They have the nicest customer service people who really try to help, but one company entity does not or will not communicate with the others so it always takes a minimum of an hour to get a prescription refilled, and does nothing to resolve the sign in problems. So you always have to talk to more than one person. Their sign in problems should be legendary. Caremark said they can't do anything at this point. I can't get the meds due to this being in process. They have really declined in service. I will not use them anymore. Another thing, is they no longer allow you to use co-pay cards. You are best if you get filled at your local pharmacy. even if it cost you $4 more. You will have it in hand and have the ability to fill it if you have a emergency. On the same note My Chemo drugs have been held up for at least a month now for other reasons. CVS/Caremark's monopolistic control over which pharmacy I can use should be investigated. My neighborhood pharmacy was considered to be "in-network" until last year. Unless I want to pay out-of-pocket for my medications, I no longer have the choice to use my local pharmacy with a pharmacist whom I trust. Last month, CVS would not fill a 30-day supply of my blood pressure medication because of their 90-day supply rule. I had transferred my prescription from my local pharmacy to CVS and went into CVS to pick up my prescription. CVS said that the prescription could not be filled for more than 30 days because I had 30 days left on my previous prescription; as a result I was without my maintenance blood pressure medicine and had to figure out that I still had a 30-day supply at my local pharmacy. I was forced to go back to my local pharmacy and get the 30-day supply which was "not covered" by my insurance (CVS Caremark).
If I had trouble navigating what CVS is now doing to enforce their “draconian” methods on patients, how could a less savvy or elderly person understand what was happening when they could not pick up a required maintenance medication? I have to admit, that it took a number of phone calls to get an explanation that made sense to me as I had not been informed by my local pharmacy or by CVS Caremark that they would no longer cover my prescription at my local pharmacy. I am being charged for insurance coverage that I cannot use by paying premiums to CVS Caremark but am paying out of pocket prices without coverage from CVS Caremark. The cost of a 1-month supply of my blood pressure medicine (without insurance) at my local pharmacy is $7.00 whereas CVS charges $29.78 for the same 30-day supply. This is highway robbery. Additionally, Medicare is CVS’ “cash cow,” making millions of dollars from Medicare’s Part D prescription programs.
I had never heard of "in-network" and "out-of-network" pharmacies but would have to pay $533 for a one month supply of a blood pressure medicine by using a pharmacist that I trust. Otherwise, I am required to purchase a three-month supply from CVS while the doctor is still determining whether a medication works. If it doesn't I would be saddled with expensive medication that I cannot use.
CVS Health is a Oligopoly. Citizens should have a choice where to purchase their medications and services. I hope that your office will consider investigating CVS Caremark and other such monopolies that are driving independent pharmacies out of business. CVS insurance reimbursements are astronomical, while independent pharmacy reimbursement have been slashed to "pennies on the dollar.”
CVS is buying up independent pharmacies at an alarming rate. These actions are destroying neighborhood pharmacies that provide a number of services that CVS does not. I am not interested in CVS Caremark becoming an arm of my physician's medical practice. CVS has a history of incompetence and gross mismanagement. My health insurance very unfortunately uses CVS Caremark as its mail away medication provider. I have had two horrible experiences in the last year. I've been on a generic form of ** for 15 years, and all of a sudden they decided to deny coverage! My doctors off and myself spent hours explaining to them that this medication was not being used for smoking cessation (I've never smoked), but was for use in treating my depression. After over a week of fighting, they finally approved it. Then just last week, they decided they weren't going to cover my ** (generic **) anymore, even though I've also been taking that for over 5 years as needed. Once again, phone call after phone call and straight out lies that they'd sent my doctor a form for prior authorization.
In the end, they DENIED it. THEY are not my physician! I asked my physician to just write me a prescription to take to the Publix pharmacy (I switched over my medications there after another experience at the local CVS - they claimed I had no refills left on a medication. When I brought in the original bottle they filled it in, and showed them it indicated "one refill" by a time 6 months from now and asked them to show me when that refill had been used, they COULDN'T but STILL refused to fill it) and paid cash for it. Guess what? Both of the aforementioned prescriptions were CHEAPER at Publix without insurance. CVS had been charging me the full deductible on my plan.... Publix charged the actual cost! I will never set foot in another CVS store again, and ask my employer to consider switching to a provider who does not utilize CVS.

My husband and I have had nothing but problems with the mail order service. We are both on Medicare and have to follow up with these jokesters each month. Our issues have been:
*Saying they didn’t receive the prescription from our doctors (they have on several occasions) when they did.
*Sent 9 months of one prescription when only 3 months were ordered.
*Sent 90 pills instead of 270 for 3 months. This is crazy because the prescription states and was ordered for 3 months even on the label. 3xdaily for 90 days = 270. Mind you, this is an automatic refill within their system. The previous was filled correctly. The solution they provided was for me to call my doctor and have her send a new rx.
*Charged me my deductible on my first order with a copay of less than $5. So my first Rx this year cost me over $650.
*Charge me for the non generic drug but ship me the generic.
I could go on but you get the idea. They are a joke. My only recourse is to get them somehow to drop me so I can get coverage elsewhere. I can’t believe they are allowed to take such advantage of seniors this way. Luckily, I have enough smarts to deal with these guys. It’s only February!

Ever since my medical insurance switched its pharmacy and prescriptions over to CVS Caremark, my life has been extremely inconvenienced and my health impacted negatively. More than once, I wouldn't be able to obtain my medication because of their non-sensical requirements. The latest and greatest worst experience with CVS is them denying a refill after I lost/misplaced my medication during a move to a different state.
I'm sure I'm not the first or last person in the world to have misplaced items during a move but their "exception" (code 004) which is for "lost, stolen, or damaged" would not apply in my case, even though it was actually lost, stolen or damaged. They would insist I had to get a 90-day supply, which I did have available as refill and I was totally okay with getting, however, it was "too soon" to refill. Of course it was too soon, I lost the last month! But the "exception" would not apply. Long story short, after hours on the phone, I had to pay $180 for a month supply or go a month without it. I pay $300 a month for this type of service and "Care".

Had such a horrible first experience. I live in PA and will be starting a new medication that unfortunately will be delivered by this company. I was quoted 4 different prices in a matter of 24 hrs. I was left a voicemail by this company regarding my prescription so I called them back on 1/28 just to speak to a young lady who had me on hold for 30 + to then tell me that my out of pocket expense was $400. Then when I wanted to provide a savings card from the manufacture she informed the reason for the long hold was due to her having technical difficulties and I would have to call back in tomorrow.
I call back today 1/29 and I get a gentleman. I explained to him why I was calling back in and I provided him my savings card information. He then proceeded to tell me that he applied it by mistake to my second dose and not my first dose. He said the cost of the second dose would be $5 but that I would have to pay out of pocket $3000 + for the first one. When I explained to him that was inaccurate he proceeded to chuckle and tell me that he was not properly trained on the system he was using so he would have to transfer me to someone else.
The 3rd women I was transferred to was extremely helpful and fixed all the prior screw ups in the system and also placed me on hold and contacted the manufacturer and applied all savings for my first and second dose and even scheduled a delivery date. I hang up and less then an hour later I’m being called by CVS Caremark by a different person telling me that my prescription is ready to be shipped but my out of pocket cost would be 4000 +. It got even worse after this but to make a long story just a tad shorter. After being placed on hold several times and speaking to a supervisor it was fixed again. Once again this was all within a 24hr time period. Just the thought of having to deal with this company on a monthly basis is stressful. Good luck finding an employee when you call in that knows what they are doing it’s very hard. Something seems very off and not right about this company!

My employer just switched to CVS Caremark from Express Scripts and it has been the most horrible experience and we just started the plan this year! The prior authorization department needs a lot of work. I needed an** prescription and I have been going back and forth with Caremark for over a week to get the prior authorization approved. When I first called CVS Caremark customer service advised the doctor's office needed to call in the prescription, when my doctor's office spoke with a rep at Caremark they advised that ** was not covered and ** was, so my doctor put in that prescription.
I was checking my caremark dashboard daily to confirm if the prescription was processed and it wasn't. I waited 2 days and called customer service back, one rep told me ** wasn't covered, I called again because the rep was super rude and short and would not elaborate. When I got another rep she said that I need to speak with the benefits department at 866-249-1556 and ext. **. The rep on 1/15/20 said they did not have my insurance information so that is why my prescription was pending, which is odd since they are my insurance prescription provider. She said due to the holidays I would need to call on 1/19/20 to confirm that authorization was approved.
This is where things go from bad to worse because I need to have the prescription by 1/21/21, anyone who is trying to conceive knows the importance of getting the medications on time so all the preparation and other meds you endured beforehand doesn't go to waste. I called back on 1/19 and was told that the ** was not covered under my policy, they do not have the previous ** prescription that was sent in and that the doctor must call the PA department at 866-814-5506 to get verbal approval for **. I told my doctor's office this and they called and the PA department advised to speed things up they should put in the authorization on covermymeds.com. If a verbal authorization suffice why would they direct them to cover my meds?
I spoke with the benefits department who kept telling me that my doctor's office never called to put in the prior authorization, Fernando with the benefits department was extremely rude, super short and did not want to help or listen to what I was saying at all. I called back and spoke with Beth who was more helpful and then requested to speak with their manager Yessenia who called the PA department herself with me on the phone. They did confirm my doctor called them but said the doctor office called to get a key for covermymeds, which makes no sense, how would they even know about this website?
Either way I have been getting back and forth from the authorization department when all they needed to do was accept and put in the system that my doctor called and authorized the **. I spent over 4 hours on the phone with them yesterday, ultimately Raj K. with the PA department advised to have my doctor's office to call back to the same number 866-814-5506 early in the morning and request a verbal authorization of the **.
My doctor's office called and sent me an message stating they followed the directions given to me, I waited 2 hours, called the benefits department back, got Fernando on the phone again who proceeded to tell me my doctor's office never called, the authorization was still pending. I gave him my PA confirmation number, he then stated that someone was working on it and should reach out to me. I asked why he said that my doctor's office never called and he proceeded to get short, was rude and denied.
Right now I am still waiting on Caremark authorization. I need this prescription by Thursday (tomorrow). What really burns me up is how convoluted this process is, how so may reps give various information which delays the process, and how no one from the PA department can actually confirm whether someone calls them because they do not adequately document their file. I am left feeling defeated, angry, unheard, and disappointed that this is my new prescription provider (employer plan). I may have to skip this month in trying for a child because of the red tape in place by CVS.
I would hate for my fellow co-workers to go through the same thing if they need a medication on a deadline that requires prior authorization. If a verbal authorization is all that is needed then do not direct a doctors office to a website or send a fax, just take the verbal! Customer service needs better training and more compassion.

Having a chronic and debilitating medical condition is bad enough without having to go in circles to chase down my prescriptions and make sure they’re being delivered on time...and that they’re sending the right prescriptions! Anticipating another problem... I started checking with them 2weeks ago on the status of my Rx. Today is the date that I am scheduled to take my treatment. Two days ago was my fifth or sixth call to see why I hadn’t received any shipping notice.
After going in circles on the phone (do they KEEP records of your prior calls-they worthier don’t, or they PLAY dumb really well), I was transferred to an “escalation supervisor” who tut-tutted and apologized profusely for my problems...and assured my that FIRST THING THE NEXT MORNING, she’d reach my doctor for a new prescription (that he or his office has now sent no fewer that 5 times). I told her I wanted confirmation after she spoke to him and that I also wanted her to tell me EXACTLY WHEN I could expect to receive my medication. She informed me that their system didn’t allow for her to call me directly, however she could reach me through the app, or by email. Their app...is useless. I asked her to email me directly.
Yesterday, I received and email... It linked me to a messaging system... WITHIN THEIR USELESS APP! She informed me that my doctor had been contacted and made aware that my PA (prior authorization) needed to be updated. No mention of delay in shipping. By the way...I spoke to my insurance company and they don’t understand what the holdup is here either! After telling me she understood I was to take my medication today...and we should be able to get it to me today “no problem”... Today, at 1pm, they send me another “app” message... My Rx is delayed...due to pending PA!!! They have had 5 different prescriptions for the same medication from the same doctor... My insurance company said they have the PA months ago! I loathe CVS. Awful Service. To be fair the representatives answer the phone quickly and are nice and do their best to help but they have no control over getting your orders filled or processed. They held up my insulin from shipping for a week for no reason and just kept telling me different reasons. My doctor's office had to contact them three times. When I spoke to a supervisor he lied about numerous things including trying to tell me my order was not on Hold despite the reps confirming it was and it showing it "on hold" online.
He lied about why it was on Hold after admitting it was indeed on hold (actually he still said it wasn't on hold and that it was just not shipping until the doctor called), he told me many reasons it was not shipping from the Doctor did not have the dosage on the prescription and other things but the truth was the pharmacy just wanted to make sure she ordered the right thing. When the doctor confirmed she did, they put it on hold again. This time they made her call back and verify I did not need syringes, which she did not put on the prescription because I do not need them and live in a state where they can be bought over the counter.
I can go on and on but the Supervisor assured me a manager would call back within 24 to 48 hours which did not happen. I was not surprised about this because he was a liar. So, I actually sent a message requesting this too. Still no phone callback. Then I get a message saying they shipped my insulin and see they sent it standard UPS despite their policy of shipping any drugs needing refrigeration overnight. They also will ship whenever they are ready and you have no way of asking them to hold it such as me given I will be on vacation when it arrives. They also shipped a 90-day supply of medication to me after assuring me they would not until I called since I already had a 90-day supply I just received. Again, I can go on and on but the scary part is, WHAT ELSE ARE THEY SCREWING UP that could cost you your life?

Although the drugs are on their formulary they are not being covered because of the package size. Rejection is that NDC is not covered but the drug. I am in a foreign country serving our military and you are telling me that because the US government gave me a 90 count bottle vs counting 90 tablets out of a 1000 count bottle you are not covering the medication.
When I called the call center I was told that ** among other medications for my husband is not a life sustaining medication or that I could use mail order. Just is against the law. Not to mention that they will not except host nation (i.e. foreign) prescriptions. Or that all I need to do is have the pharmacy reverse the claim and use this NDC. It's a closed system. My absolute favorite is after being on the phone with them for a total of 6 hour I am told I will receive a follow-up email with a link to their formulary!
