I received a few items for Christmas which were regrettably not my style from my mother. Since we're not the sort of cynical family who gives out receipts along with our gifts, I figured they would either give me store credit or tell me no. We went to the nice DG in Tobaccoville, NC instead of the incredibly messy store in King. My boyfriend and I did not expect to be treated like thieves. All I can say is WOW. 'No receipt' must be code for 'shoplifter' at DG. After she added the items up and told us that the refund (not a card, just trade for merch?) would not include tax in the snarkiest tone possible, we were told to leave the one item they couldn't accept- TOLD, not ASKED- by the register, because I'm assuming Miss Sunshine thought we were going to be stealing. Then we were followed through the store.
I am a lot of things, but THIEF is not one of them. I am a computer repair tech by trade and my boyfriend is the most honest individual I have ever met. Neither of us are thieves. Did she not understand that after Christmas people would be returning gifts? If not, I cannot imagine what hell her life will be in the next week. Disgusted by one store, and disgusted by another, neither of us will be stepping foot into another Dollar General again.

Dollar General lies in their advertising. They tell you "Join up and you can download digital coupons for bargains." Then when you try to log on they say “authentication failed. Forgot password?” If you try that they offer a window that says SEND PASSWORD Click that and enter the email. Then they come back with “user not found”. This all happened to my wife. They do find her email address on her phone to send their advertisements though. Remember “user not found”!!! We contacted them by filling out Contact Us on their login page and by cell phone. They are uncooperative and their only reply is an automated “Received your submission”.

I went in at 3:58 today, 12/10/16. There was a cashier with 20 people in line and no one, not even a manager in sight to respond to delete an item on the register. The cashier called repeatedly with no answer. 3rd try the manager walked the entire 12 feet to the register. She pushed through the customers rudely, she deleted the nail polish that was incorrectly price marked as the entire shelf was incorrectly priced, did not ask to help customers in line for 20 minutes at this point, and went back to the office to sit down. The store is dirty with liquor bottles and trash parking lot and trash all over the store. And there is no manager taking any responsibility for anything. Customers said they are not coming back because it keeps getting worse. Go Dollar General!

My complaint is that on 12-08-2016; I stopped at the Dollar General located at: 1100 Carver Rd, Modesto, CA 95350 to shop for a few items that my family needed. During the time that I was in the store and prior to my acquiring any needed items I walked over to the men's room with intentions of availing myself of the facilities. However, tacked to the men's room door is a sign "instructing customers to see the store personnel for a key to gain access to the restrooms". When I asked the store personnel for the key to gain access to restroom, they informed me that despite what the door sign clearly states the restrooms were only for employees.
I found their statements regarding this matter highly suspicious, so upon returning to my car I decided to call the store and talk to the manager about my being denied access to the restroom. The person on the phone informed me that, they were the store manager and happened also to be the person who just denied me restroom access. This person told me that it was store policy not let any customers use the restrooms despite what the door signs says.
Based upon my many years of shopping at other Dollar Generals with my family and my observation of the behaviors and actions of employees within this specific DG, as well as my subsequent conversations with other DG shoppers I believe that this specific DG allows ** customers the use of store’s restrooms. The store policy of non-restroom usage by customers seem to be is only applied to ** customers and other minorities. I request that the store be instructed by their corporate office to stop this discrimination among its customers regarding restroom usage.

This is an incident that happened at the Gladstone, MO store #02610 on November 3rd, 2016. My wife and I have been frequent customers at this particular DG store and we happened to see a flyer that mentioned toys were 50% off and we wanted to look at toys for our daughters and other younger family members for the upcoming holidays. While my wife was looking at the toys, I went and picked out the few things that I had specifically in mind. There were a few other items I was looking for that the store did not carry, but I still looked just in case. Having been frequent customers and knowing the general protocol of the store, I had to use the restroom. I went to the front and asked for the key and knew where it was. When I was finished, I locked the door behind me and brought the key back to the front. I continued to walk around the store and would occasionally check-in with my wife.
When I went to the back of the store, Selenthia, the manager, asked if she could help me find anything. She was standing there with a couple of other employees. I specifically told her that I was: "wandering the store aimlessly" because I actually was. Looking at whatever might catch my eye, checking out the discount aisle in case something jumped out at me that I just needed, etc. She specifically said: "Okay, I had the police on the line for this clown". I was appalled by her comment and said I was there shopping with my wife. Selenthia then had to verify my wife was in the next aisle and that she was my wife. After she verified, she told my wife to "keep on shopping and you buy lots of toys". I said out loud that "I don't know what I did to accuse her of being a threat" to her or the store. We were about to walk out of the store but decided to buy the items we had in our cart.
Upon checking out, my wife asked the clerk for the manager's name. She told us her first name but would not give us her last name. We also asked for the store number and how to file a complaint against that manager. She could not provide any of that information. While sitting in front of the store, I looked up corporate on my phone and proceeded to call them and had a reference number made and a case started. I explained my treatment in that store and how I was appalled how my wife and I were treated. I was told that the district manager, Kent, would be notified and he would be in touch. Selenthia called me later and apologized and said she never had the police on the line. Why would she say that out loud to me if she didn't? I told her that because I was the only male, Asian customer in that store that I felt very strongly she picked me out of every other customer in that store.
She publicly humiliated me because of how loud she said what she did in front of everyone in that store. (Keep in mind that this is not a big store.) I later received a phone call from Kent explaining that he spoke with Selenthia and told her that what she did was totally inappropriate and that she should not have continued how she did. Kent also said that she was written up and her actions will be monitored. I was NOT at all happy with this resolution because I am a law abiding citizen that has NEVER had a criminal record and NEVER been accused of shoplifting. I told Kent that I was not happy with this resolution and wanted to pursue this further. He told me to contact HR or Customer Relations and that I could file a complaint there.
I made that phone call on November 4th to DG Human Resources and was told that I needed to contact Customer Relations and was given the phone number. I spoke with someone there and explained my situation. I was told an email would be generated and the Regional Manager would be contacted and I would hear from him. His name was Alan. After not hearing anything from Alan for three days, I called back on the 8th of November and explained I never heard anything. Later that day, Alan called me. I didn't recognize the phone number and didn't answer. After I heard his message, I returned his phone call less than three hours later due to being busy with other things. I left him a message and told him that I wanted to speak directly with him and to please call me back. I never heard anything from him for one full week.
I called BACK to customer relations on the 15th and was livid because I never heard from him. I said the rep at that time that Alan obviously didn't take my matter seriously and that I wanted to speak with the next person above him in Corporate. I was reassured that an email would be generated and sent to Corporate. Amazingly, Alan called me later that day and left another message. I called back to Customer Relations and said that I specifically said that I did not wish to speak with him but wanted to speak with the next person above him. Again, another email was being generated and sent to Corporate about my situation. I called again on the 17th because I never heard from anyone AGAIN. I was told again that an email would be generated with High Priority and sent to Corporate again. Again, Alan called and left another message on the 18th.
It was rather interesting how whenever I called Customer Relations and requested to speak with someone in Corporate ABOVE the regional director that he would be the one calling me back. After hearing nothing again for a few more days, I called CR (Customer Relations) again on the 22nd. I explained everything AGAIN and was told another email would be generated and sent to an escalation team. I waited to hear back from someone. NOTHING! I called again on the 29th wanting to know what was happening. I explained the situation AGAIN and that I got no results AGAIN. The rep said she would put me in touch with the supervisor, which I agreed to, and she hung up on me. I called back again and requested to speak with a supervisor. He wanted to know my information AGAIN and I explained everything to him AGAIN. I never was able to speak with a supervisor from that phone call either.
I was told that HR would be involved and that someone above Alan would be in touch. The rep would speak directly with his supervisor and have him help generate the required email. Later that day I received a phone call from DG HR Employee Relations Manager. I explained the situation again to her and she got my side of the story. She said she would start an investigation and would be back in touch with me. On 12/2 she called me and said she had news that I would not be happy with. She was upholding the decision made and that she wasn't going to ruin an employee's life because of this incident. Selenthia would be monitored and that what she did was completely inappropriate and apologies were made to me for my experience.
I am NOT happy with this sort of resolution because of the public humiliation I went through. The fact that I did not pose ANY sort of threat and did not make ANY indication of shoplifting. I have worked in retail and in public relations and know all about that sort of thing. We will NOT be going back to that establishment and will proceed to tell all of our friends and family to NOT shop at that store due to our experience. The fact that I have left names is because this whole matter is completely true. If this is how they are going to treat customers, then why should we support them?

I recently visited this store and purchased two sale items. One was 3 bags of chips for $5 and the other 3 packs of soda for $8. Dollar General has a bad way of putting signs all over the place instead of just with the product that is on sale. I think this is a marketing ploy that most people don't pick up on. At any rate, I saw that I had not received the sale price and returned the items. Upon entering the store and explaining the situation, this troll of a manager started bellowing that I had not purchased the required items. A nice clerk started with the return and then the troll came over and jumped right in the middle of it. I knew she would screw up something because she didn't bother to find out what was going on. She was so busy bitching about me not reading the fine print that she actually charged me for one item that I was bringing back. What a fiasco! She has no business being a manager. If she is that stressed, give her some time off.

Filthy store & restrooms. Cashiers very rude & ugly!!!! Was purchasing large order and my granddaughter accidentally knocked over & broke a candle. When I offered to pay for it the cashier went off on me like a mad woman! Got furious when I just left my cart & started yelling about that. I left more money on the counter than it was worth. I will NEVER SHOP AT THIS DOLLAR GENERAL AGAIN. I removed my grandchildren, who were now in tears. I have worked in retail all my life & have never seen such poor customer service. You just lost hundreds from my family & friends. :(

My daughter and I were just humiliated in DOLLAR GENERAL (Cedar Shoals Road, Athens, GA 30605). We were accused of shoplifting. I walk there with an old modified baby stroller. I took out the seat and put in an insulated carry cooler. It zips up, but I never zip it up in the store so as not to conceal any items I pay for. I was use this cart because I have trouble standing when I walk anywhere and can't carry much. It gives me something to lean on in case I get dizzy because the wheels lock easily. I go out of my way to explain to store clerks that I need this to get around and carry my purchases due to a rare genetic condition (Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia) my daughter and I both have that affects our ability to walk far due to heart palpitations, pain, arthritis, and vertigo.
I shop in all the local stores (Rite Aid; Publix; Kroger; Sally Beauty, etc) and this particular store many times most of the clerks know me by now and I always try to ask if there is an issue with the cart; sometimes I will leave at the end of an aisle or front of the store so the clerks can see I'm not trying to hide anything. We use Dollar General weekly (or more often) because it is inexpensive and close (I can hardly make it to the bus stop) and it is one of the few places my daughter can walk (we often use it as her physical therapy). The manager and I would speak all the time about products and the mobile app. We also choose Dollar General because it is and the staff are extremely kind and helpful - until today.
Today I didn't see clerks. It was a busy time of day, so I figured they were doing other things. We were both all over the store (together and separately) talking loudly, laughing and not acting suspicious in any way. I never zipped up the container inside the stroller; and within minutes of being in the store, it was overflowing with items.
When we got the counter, we saw two police officers standing watching people check out; I thought nothing of it because I have seen clerks have to remove teens because they were rude or disrespectful. Once we paid for our food, my prepaid debit card didn't work so I had to remove the detergent. I have done this many times at this store.
The first clerk (who is usually much more friendly) didn't know how because we had already completed part of the transaction. The second clerk (whom we had never seen before today) didn't know how to do remove it either. She called the manager who told her how to do it. I pulled out everything and asked if she wanted to check everything that would need to pay cash for. She ignored me, so I just pulled out everything that wasn't food. She was fumbling a lot and did could not find the place for me to sign, then told me I didn't need to sign for the transaction. I paid her cash; loaded the cart and thanked the clerk. She didn't answer me and wouldn't look me in the eye, so I thanked her again really loudly. She begrudgingly said, "You're welcome," but still wouldn't look at me.
As I was leaving, the officer and asked us to step outside to speak with him. He said we were accused of shoplifting, but instead of pressing charges we were banned from the store for 2 years. I asked if he wanted to go through my cart and check everything against the receipt. He said, "No." I explained that many of the staff in that store have seen us and we always use the cart, that I have asked many times if it was OK to use the cart and the manager knew who I was. He took our information, asked for my I.D., told me to take it up with the manager, had the rude clerk come out and told us we were banned, gave us a form with the case number and asked us to leave the property.
I asked him to define the property and if I could use the sidewalk passing by the store - because I want to know where to put up signs if I want to picket or protest. He said the sidewalk was county property and I could use it, and to get a permit to protest. I thanked him for the reminder about the permit. I asked where I could get the video and other records, then we left. We wanted to return out things, but the officer wouldn't let us. I complained that the clerk and cops waited for us to pay so they could get the last little bit of money from us before they confronted us. The officer said he was trying not to embarrass us; but he confronted us in front of the store. (HOW IS THAT NOT EMBARRASSING?) By this point, my daughter is crying. I just hugged her and told her it would be OK because we didn't do anything wrong and we would clear it up. I also told her to keep her hands where the officers could see them and stay calm.
I called the store when we got home to get the manager's information; reaching the woman who called the cops on us. She claimed she asked me if there was a baby in the cart, I never heard her say anything to me - I was very hazy from medication and in a hurry to get home because I was in a lot of pain. Jami said she saw her standing all the way at the end of the aisle, not near enough for us to hear her well. Jami was right next to me, she said she heard her say something (possibly about a baby) but then instantly walked away, so she didn't think anything of it. I literally never even noticed her. (We both have documented hearing issues).
I told her that we were always in that store and used the cart all the time, the manager and many of the staff knew us. I asked her to please ask the manager to call us and that I wanted to make sure the film from that day was saved to show what happened. She hung up on me. I called another store and asked for a manager to contact the other store to ask them to save the footage. They said they couldn't but they gave me the contact info of the regional manager. I took pictures and video of everything in the cart and the receipt. I want this clerk to apologize to my daughter, and have this removed from public record. Although this is a civil, not criminal matter, it humiliated my daughter, can severely affect my ability to find certain jobs and my security clearance.
If the clerk had actually confronted us in the store, I would not have been embarrassed or angry. I understand that shoplifting is a problem and the cost can ultimately be passed on to your customers. I would have gladly used a store cart if the clerk would have spoken to me (THE ADULT) and asked me to leave MY cart in the front. Instead, the clerk said something vague to my daughter who didn't understand her and walked away without a word to me.
I am asking for the video footage to show that I did not ignore her, I didn't even know she was there. If my daughter had known that the clerk was trying to get my attention, she would have told me because we both have difficulty hearing - but woman walked away before my daughter could even respond to her. The store was very busy, so Jami assumed she wasn't talking to us when she walked away. She never approached us.

I am a part time employee. We have a beautiful new DG and it has everything anyone could want. Our manager Patty is great. We have wonderful employees that work very hard and take pride in everything from customer service to cleaning our store. It is sad to see all the nice people in different states saying they were disrespected. Our store welcomes every customer whether large purchases or small. The only thing that I can say is how managers cannot decide how many hours their store can give employees. The only people that know what it takes to manage a larger store is the manager and employees. I wish everyone with complaints had the opportunity to visit our store and see how much pride the employees and management take in customer care. This would be the perfect career if the hours were increased. Thank you to all our customers that are enjoying our new location, selections and employees.

14040 County Line Rd., Hudson, FL 34667. Obviously, the store manager ** did not want to work and had a horrible attitude to myself and the other customers. I acquired five shopping carts full of toys with the 50% off and another 25% over $75. When the cash register rang up the on sale prices, she began to argue with me about what was or wasn't on sale. I told her the sign said, all toys; she said it didn't. She was so argumentative until she went back into the toy aisle and found the sign. She never apologized.
When she came back to the register, I requested the other cashier to finish my order (second to the fifth cart). ** went to the other register and began to help other customers. One customer had even waited until they were finished with my order and met me outside when I was loading my truck. She came to me and complained about **, how she was throwing her order around and tossing bags at her. I told her to contact corporate, also. I spent close to $600 and I was disrespected and treated badly.

I've never been so disrespected in my entire life! So, I walked into the Dollar General store Located in Hialeah, Fl. I picked up a bottle of water and pringles. The "manager" (Gloria) then began to follow me down the aisle. When I turned around to look at her she said "We have a policy, Don't open any foods and eat in the store without paying". I put the items in the air to show her that they were not open. I then turned around and continued looking for my items. She walked off and called me "Stupid" but she said it in Spanish. I guess she didn't think I understood what she was saying but I completely understood her word for word. So, like anyone else would I responded to her ridiculous comment and called her stupid as well. She looked me right in the face and said "I may be stupid, but you're a **!
That was the most disgusted crack I had ever heard. So of course we argued. Although she called me out of my name twice I still picked up my items and headed to the front of the store to pay for them. By this time Gloria made it back to the front and was telling the cashier what had happened. When I got there I asked the cashier (Don't Know his Name) for the customer service number. He then told me he wasn't giving me ** and I can leave the store!
This was so hard for me to keep calm and be the bigger person. If I weren't pregnant and waiting on a well paid job I believe I would have been arrested. Regardless of what I am buying no one deserves this kind of treatment from anyone at all. I called the 800 number spoke to someone so hopefully I can get this issue resolved. I'd rather do shopping from somewhere else for now on. I do not care if it is the dollar store. My dollar will be spent somewhere else!

I have lived in the Fruitland area of Jackson, MO for 61 years and was so glad when the Dollar store was built on US Highway 61. I like the location even though it is a very busy intersection. But the last dozen or so times I have entered this store it was a disgrace and so dirty. When the store first open it was very well organized and spotless. The first few managers tried to keep it up but let it go down downhill. The store had a good person running that store for a few years. She worked there since the store first opened. That manager was a person in charge and hired decent people that would greet you when you come in the door and would make you feel like they appreciated you shopping at their store. I know that manager probably work a lot of long each week. She would help me find things, even if they were out of stock on the store shelves she would go in the back and come out with just exactly what I ask for.
Now you ask anyone in the store even the new manager and they will tell you they are out or the truck didn't come. I know that's not true because you can't hardly shop because of all the stock carts sitting around waiting on someone to stock the shelves. Ask the cashier why there is so many carts in the store aisles and they say the stock room is full. There was so many carts sitting around in the shopping area that you couldn't use a shopping cart. I also seen a mop, bucket of nasty mop water was just sitting by the bread aisle. I won't go into detail but the health department should see and smell the restroom. I have complained to the store manager only to be told that they don't have time to do the regular task much less any extra. It's sad that a store that isn't very old looks like the city dump.
I won't be shopping at this location again and it's sad that it has come to that. I know several past patrons have stopped shopping there, that I go to church with stop shopping there for this same reason. I really feel for the safety of the customers that our local health officials be notified of the problem at this location and maybe come up with a solution. I am not sure why Dollar General didn't try to pay the last manager more money to stay. We have heard they didn't even try to keep her because of the money Dollar General would have to pay. What a shame. Thank You.

I'm very disappointed. While the store in Bloomington, IN has been renovated to create roomier aisles, the aisles in the back of the store are cluttered, the shelves are disorganized, and the shelves are stacked too high to reach products on the top shelves. I could not find one item although I looked all over for it. The clerk said she didn't know where it was since they rearranged the store. Also, I was sent a postcard in the mail with a coupon for $5 off of a $25 purchase. I scoured the coupon for an expiration date multiple times, and there was none. At the store, the clerk took my coupon and I thought she scanned it. I did think my purchase total seemed high ($30), but didn't look at my receipt until I was home and saw the coupon had not been applied.
I returned to the store later and the same clerk was there, as well as another clerk. They told me the coupon had expired and showed me some small yellow coupons which I told them was not like the one I received in the mail. Then the clerk who rang up my purchase told the other clerk she had been told to tear them up. They were not able to find the coupon. (It had my name and address on one side.)
I'm certain that there was no expiration date on the card but am angry that the clerk didn't say something when she rang up my purchase. The fact that she didn't tell me it was expired at the time and that she and the other clerk could not find the coupon later is very suspicious. It really makes me angry when a store lures me into their store with a coupon so that I make a minimum dollar amount purchase, and then not apply the coupon at checkout. I had originally planned on going to another store to buy pain medication, but decided to go to Dollar General because of the coupon.

I shop a lot at all Dollar Generals in my area, MOHAVE County, AZ. You can say I am an extreme couponer and penny shopper. Unfortunately, couponing and penny shoppers are frowned upon to many Dollar General EMPLOYEES. I HAVE BEEN HARASSED by a so-called manager. 1st...a DG employee makes a moment to me about another local business in area that sells liquidation items, but she's insinuating that I am selling penny items I've purchased to this liquidation store. Not true. I have never sold this store any items and as far as that goes, I do not feel that an employee has any right to make nasty remarks or even discuss their job with a customer. This has happened three times.
Well today the same employee was so consumed by how much I was paying for my item as that she could not do the job and check me out. I was in line for almost 2 hours because she insisted that overage was not allowed on coupons so, I asked her "did you not read your G.O.P. manual when you were hired because it's all very clearly written and you had to sign it before you were hired." I am tired of these employees treating me like a criminal or thief, and to be honest have no right to ask me or accuse me of things that have no concern to them. When someone purchases items cheap, per se, it's nobody's business who I give, sell, donate, or whatever I want to do with this merchandise. Am I correct that this in code for violation for business employee ethics? I am so done with being harassed.

I responded confused thinking she was joking, and she repeated herself several times, "Yeah you can leave, I know you did it. Leave the store." Confused I asked "Did what?" She explained "you put a different tag on this and tried to purchase it for cheap." I stated "I did no such thing. I've been here less than 5 minutes, and I knew what I came to buy. It says it's $60 on the shelf, and there are two other cheaper coffee pots I could have selected."
Katie continued to state that I was trying to steal and needed to leave the store. I asked her to review her camera to see that this never occurred and that she was out of line. I stated, in order for her to come to the counter, ask no questions and make these accusations, she was discriminating against me and I wanted the number to corporate. Katie provided me with the number and I began to make the report while in the store by phone. At this point, Katie began telling the customers behind me in line that I was trying to "STEAL MERCHANDISE." While I was on the phone with customer service just outside, Katie stood outside smoking a cigarette and stating the customer entering the store "that I just got a corporate call on me because I caught this ** lady trying to steal." After the customer went into the store, Katie got on her cell phone and began telling the same story.
I was horrified, that as a business owner in this pro dominantly ** town, I was being treated this way. It was extremely upsetting, and humiliating that Katie would go out of her way to shame me but not to view the camera to see I did not commit the act. I then received a call from Chris ** the regional manager, who immediately took up for Katie, and only after I told him that her behavior went well beyond excusable, did he try to back pedal and console me. This company by giving Katie a slap on the hand continues to condone racism on rural Indiana. Mr. ** shocked me that his response was "well Katie usually gets good reviews so this is surprising."
The appropriate response in customer service is to empathize, answer questions, and provide an alternative way she SHOULD HAVE HANDLED IT, that you will COACH HER TO DO BETTER IN THE FUTURE. She definitely doesn't need a position of power. Disappointedly, Mr. ** minimized my complaint by ending the call stated "I'm sorry this happened BUT I won't be able to verify anything on the camera until later in the week". Meanwhile, Katie is free to discriminate and shame me and other in publicly unprofessional rants of accusations without evidence. How comforting.

Went to dollar general in evansdale Iowa to buy diapers. Their weekly ad had them priced 2 for $10 21-48 count. The shelf below the diapers had the sale advertised as well. When I got to the register they rang up full price almost $20. I refused to pay full price. Told the cashier they were advertised as 2 for $10 so she got the manager who went back and took the sign off the shelf and said that the sale wasn't for those diapers. Which they clearly were... DG baby brand size 6 38 count...
The sale is supposed to go on until Aug 20th. She would not honor the sale price and was very rude. This is the 3rd time this happened to me except the first 2 times she did give me the sale price but was not happy about it. This time she acted as if I was lying even though she had proof in her hand, just being very rude and unprofessional like I was a bother to her. Either this dollar general doesn't put the sale prices into the computer or they're just preying on unsuspecting customers hoping they won't notice when they get to The register. I contacted dollar general corporate but haven't heard back from them yet. And by the look of the reviews on their Facebook page it doesn't look like I will hear back from them at all.

I spent two hours at the store 3909 Elvis Presley going over all my manufacture coupons. The shelves were not stocked and really could not find all the deals that DG digital showed. I finally got to the counter and the cashier said "my manager said we don't take coupons". The Dollar General Policy says specifically that they do accept printed coupons alone with Digital unless it is a Digital manufactured coupon, which none of mine stated that. When you go to other Dollar General Stores you do not have this problem. I will not go back again, Walgreens, Walmart, Family Dollar who you do not have any problems with, Dollar Tree you don't have any issues, why this store? The manager of the store should follow Corporate rules not their own, totally ridiculous. I DON'T SEE ANYTHING THAT SAYS ORDER NUMBER, THE AUTH# ** and the reference number **.

I booked a vacation through Southwest Vacations. I had a rental with Dollar rental that I already paid in advance with the vacation package. Upon arrival at Dollar rental in Los Angeles California by the airport I waited in line for 45 minutes. At the desk I showed the agent my paperwork and confirmation through Southwest. The agent then told me he needed the same card I paid the rental with. I gave it to him. He said because it was a debit card I couldn't use it. I asked first of all, what he was charging and secondly, why he wouldn't accept the same card used to book like he specifically asked for. He called over a manager who, with tons of attitude explained they need a direct line of credit no debit card. She said I had to pay 350.00 deposit! For what?? The rental was paid weeks in advance! She also wanted to charge 150.00 for taxes even though the estimated taxes on my confirmation showed 48.00.
At this time I was so angry. I called Southwest customer service. Lenisha was amazing. She tried to talk to the manager about the charges and the manager's reply was "These questions are out of my pay range." When Lenisha from Southwest told the Dollar rental manager she was going to refund my money and send me next door to Budget the manager laughed and said, "This is LA, she's gonna pay 350.00 at Budget too." Well, I went to Budget. Walked in, handed them my driver's license and DEBIT card. Within 10 minutes I was out the door in a 2016 Chevy Malibu. And it only cost me 300.00 no hidden fees no deposit. Southwest refunded my 200.00 from Dollar rental within the week. I will never ever rent from Dollar and I will make sure no one I know does either. Shameful customer service! In total Dollar would have charged me $700. I'm so glad they didn't get a single cent from me. They should not be allowed to scam people!

I purchased several small items from Dollar General, and attempted to return them, unused, after several days, not needing them anymore. First of all, the cashier's attitude was one of contempt, unfriendly and unhelpful. When I attempted to insert my card into the chip reader for the refund, the system message was "unable to process, please call customer service". Cashier read this to me and simply said it cannot be processed. I assumed it was due to the fact that I was attempting a return on my debit card, when it had been my husband's debit card with which the purchase was made. I said no problem, and had my husband return a few days later with the original card of purchase. To my surprise and dismay, he was sent home with the same message, and given the same careless, unfriendly attitude as I was a few days before.
I called customer service and was contacted by the district manager who was very apologetic and explained that the system does not process chip reader returns. The card needs to be swiped normally. I went back a THIRD time, and a third, different cashier had the same unfriendly, unapologetic attitude, and my return was processed after I explained to HIM how to proceed with the card. I did not receive a "thank you", nor a "have a good day", nor "we apologize for the trouble". Cashier acted like I, as the customer, was the problem in the transaction. This seemed to be the general attitude of the employees in that store, and I alone dealt with three different ones. This store is located in Georgia on the corner of Braselton Hwy and Gravel Springs Rd. Needless to say, I will not be shopping at Dollar General, if nothing else out of protest for how I was treated.

Did shopping for about 35 minutes just to get to the counter and be told by The Genius cashier that they don't even have change for a 20 in their drawer. Are you kidding me!!! The kid says to me "I don't know what to tell you." Yells for the manager. As she laughs and says there is no money anywhere in the store. What kind of store doesn't have change? I've never heard of something so stupid!
This store is a joke. You go in there the shelves are empty. The coolers are broken. If you do dare to open one of the cooler doors it smells like rotten meat and they don't care. You tell somebody at the register they just shrug their shoulders. Go-karts always blocking the aisles for what who knows because they don't put items on the shelves. Nothing ever brings up correctly in the store. The cashiers can't even add 2 + 2 word count your change or not smash your bread while they're putting it into a bag. It's just awful and sad. I'm done. Here's my problem with this. It's not my job to know if the money is real or not. I'm just a customer trying to clean my home. Why is it the customers fault that Dollar General gave me funny money? I thought that was their job to mark every bit of currency that comes across the counter.
They refuse to look at the cameras and refused to give me my money back. I'm assuming because they had money that they knew would have to come out of their pocket and it's easier to just pass it off on somebody so that it does not come out of your paycheck. The Dollar General Company has serious issues as far as customer service. I use to like Dollar General a lot. I shopped at their stores for years and years. From Jacksonville, Arkansas where we use to live and now, here in Moore, Oklahoma. I have written their Corporate Office many times before giving compliments regarding their stores that I have shopped at. I always get a response. Now, I discovered that if your comments are on the negative side, you will never get any response from them. I expressed my concerns with Corporate Office via their website last week and wrote them again when they did not response. Nothing from them yet.
My concerns were about their Store # 4170 located at 1000 City Avenue in Moore, OK. The aforementioned store is temporarily closed. They have a sign that the store is closed due to remodeling. It is true that the store is under remodeling but they are not telling you why they are remodeling. They are remodeling because the store is infested with kitten sized rats. Before they discovered the problem, you can smell the rodents when you go inside the store. There many dead rats with maggots eating on them. Pet food bags bitten through them.
I contracted bacteria from Macaroni and Cheese purchased from them. I was given medication and anti-biotic for a month. My doctor asked me if I had any contact with rodents or sheep/livestock. (Funny at the time). Of course I had no contact with rodents or sheep/livestock. But now I know that I could have had contact with rodents. I told them that I was not going to do anything as far as filing a suit and even though they are ignoring my issue, I am going to contact the BBB, Attorney General and the Health Department.

In the two years that I have lived in Oak Hill WV the two Dollar General stores we have have been a horrible experience. They have went through multiple district managers and also store managers. The shelves are never stocked. They're always waiting on a truck. Staff is always unfriendly. God forbid you ask them to do any part of their jobs. And not to mention the many times everyone is outside smoking or talking about who to get their next fix from. I've seen multiple people fall from aisles being cluttered or just plain trashed. I myself have been one. A box of toys a clerk was unpacking one day turned over in the floor. Instead of picking it up, the clerk went on break. I continued my shopping, walked around the aisle. Well turns out toys had rolled into the next aisle. I stepped on a child's toy and fell flat on my stomach at 9 months pregnant.
Truly the only reason we have continued to go is because we have a large family, their prices are low and they did accept coupons. But now even that doesn't work. Their sale prices don't ring up correctly and they refuse to fix it. They say there is nothing we can do. I have been checking out with my children and asked if I know where to get "anything good" by staff. I have been refused service unless I buy my cashier a Monster energy drink. Nothing is ever done about the employees and they change staff constantly. Sad things is the services still don't improve. You can call corporate and no results happen. At this they have went through so many management changes with no better after effects. They should close those two stores down and make room for a more effective business whereas Oak Hill is a small community with few options already.

Most of the staff are poorly trained and have no concept of customer service and retention. They fairly act like you're inconveniencing them - that they are doing you a favor by taking your money in exchange for abuse. Oftentimes food items are so far out of date as to have a bad taste, or downright rancid. The shelves regularly have large swaths of empty spaces while product sits on buggies waiting to be stocked, thus blocking the aisles and making it difficult to find anything, not to mention the hassle of squeezing past other customers. This is a continuing, daily problem.
Finally, they demand all customers produce a valid driver's license to purchase tobacco products. And despite the fact that no other store anywhere does this, the manager claims it's "store policy". State law and city ordinances only require a DL if the customer "appears to be less than 25 years of age". To make matters worse they key your personal information into their database every time you buy cigarettes. They've basically got everything they need for identity theft recorded on their server so some unscrupulous employee, or hacker, can ruin your life. I don't know what exactly is going on with this establishment but I don't trust them at all. If I were to be very cynical I'd say they are acting like a poorly run money laundering operation.

I was in a few weeks ago (I am hard of hearing, I wear a cochlear implant which is very easy for anyone to see) so me and my 2 children were checking out, and I swiped my debit card.
The manager who was ringing me up starts yelling at me that I need to push some other button. I said I wasn't aware of that as I always just swipe my card and then the cashier does the rest. She starts shaking her head and getting angered because I guess I didn't "hit the button" quick enough for her liking. She was beyond rude huffing and puffing and on my way out I could hear her say ** idiot about me. I will never be back to this store again! She should have been immediately terminated in the spot for that!
She was a blond woman in her early 40s, late 30s maybe? Just in case someone from the store reads these reviews! On top of that all the employees are lazy and unhelpful, but everytime I go there and need something, when you lift the covering to get it, it dings loudly over and over until it's shut again. That's the only time I see employees is when they are spying to see if I'm stealing. I hate feeling like that in their store, they assume everyone is a criminal. I am seriously PO'd. I went to a new Dollar General near my house (705 ARLINGTON ST, AKRON, OH 44306) today to get a few things. I had my sister & my 2-yr-old daughter with me. First the carts were all being used by the store employees doing inventory and some were full of boxes to be stocked. For what I was getting I needed a cart. So after 10 mins a customer was done with his (which there was only 2 other customers who had carts). My sister followed him to his car and got his cart. Headed to the next aisle, my 2-yr-old says "Pee pee mommy, pee pee" like a few times. Sister asked a worker (which turned out to be the manager) if they had a restroom she could use (as she continues to yell PEE PEE) and he says "Not for public use." So we try to hurry. 2-yr-old still saying, "Pee pee mommy." So at the checkout she's screaming and crying "Pee pee mommy. Right now."
I said to the cashier..."You guys don't have a restroom she can use?? She's 2 yrs old and potty training." She leans over to look down the aisle that the manager was in and asks if she can use the restroom. (I didn't hear him due to 2 y/o screaming at me as I'm unloading my cart as fast as I can.) He replied "I would suggest taking her outside" as if she's a dog??? I guess the man in front of me heard him say it and said to the cashier "Aweeee, that's ** up. How could he say that to her ???" The cashier replied to the man "I didn't hear him say that." So we hurried up and paid and went to the car. Sister told me what the man had said, which was the manager but we didn't know at the time, so she went to put the cart back and got his name, (**!
I am furious. I'm calling the corporate office. Every DG we have ever been to had a restroom or was OK with children using it. I worked at Dollar General #15955 for a year to the date. I gave this company my best. Was always at work, went in every time I was called in, went to different stores to help out each time I was asked and in return was treated as I was a complete idiot when fact is I had to show most key holders how to do the job. I asked for the position right away and had 3 more people hired in above me regardless. I let it go and continued doing best I could. I only missed 1 day out of a year because of sickness and was told not to come back unless I had a doctor's excuse (1st of all if I'd had the money I'd have already been to a doctor)? So I had to pay for a visit I couldn't afford just to have doc tell me I had a virus going around at time? Just so I could return to work of course. Afterwards 2 of these 3 hired in after me had missed continually and another older employee but never had to return with a doc excuse? Why is that?
I felt discriminated against without doubt. Because I am best worker or was and always done what others wouldn't do too. And they knew I'd work and it was "Rhonda do this and Rhonda do that" while others done nothing but stand at register maybe? Well, I'm just that way because I go to work to work. I continued doing best I could. I struggled to make ends meet because of pay but was hanging in.
After a year we are given a raise. I got a call 1 day about 2 weeks ago from manager telling me she had to make me a key holder to get me a raise and it would require me traveling more too (although I'd never been given any keys lol). I thought "great". Finally good news so 2 days later to take the drug test which is required when promoted as I'd been told by others hired in and guess what? They tell me it's positive for illegal drugs WHICH I KNOW (AND GOD) IS IMPOSSIBLE because I only take what a doc gives me? And that I'll be fired?
My manager lied and I knew it then when she said only way to get a raise was make me a key holder because I'D have been given one automatically in the year. But to "protect" DG, they had to have reason to fire me right? And they found it. And they done it before my year paid vacation was due too! Imagine this? Lol. And I'm sure new hires, which always is in DG will find out these things as well. In my opinion that's a VERY SORRY COMPANY to work for. Low pay, no fairness, always customer complaints, no work ethics, nothing taught, no insurance, and minimum wage? Who can live on 20 hour weeks, at minimum wage and no insurance?? (not to mention the unfairness and discrimination in place between manager and employees?)
MY advice is, don't think as I did. "Ok here's a good, big company in which I can grow with and start a new life with" especially if you're having to start all over after nasty divorce and you are trying to get a home, car, etc... because YOU'LL NEVER MAKE IT AT DG. Then to have to be treated unfairly and MOST IP FIRED. Because they want you gone and not the truth because I don't do illegal drugs nor is anyone gonna tell me a test (only they can see too) says I do. Lesson learned from Pontotoc MS Store #15955!! Very low work ethics, no customer service, nothing to be learned ever, no insurance, not enough pay, and require you to do MANY JOBS AT ONCE and to simply put it. ABUSED!!!
Matter of fact, can't even tell you if you're fired or not and mad because I got sick and couldn't work the last 2 truck days while they trained new hire to replace me since I was being fired or told I'd be? Other words, "you're positive for illegal drugs but we gonna let you stay and work... until we get new hire in and we won't be short?" Lol. Go figure? Till this day Ive not been told I'm fired. Have tried reaching manager and guess what - she ignores me? Very professional. Lol.

I have lived in the close neighborhood for over 40 years. I watched this so called grand store from the first pile of dirt to the last brick laid. I enjoyed shopping in this store almost every single day. If it wasn't my husband or daughter it was myself that spent money daily. I have seen a ton of people come and go employee wise. I have helped the local police when they are searching for the everyday shoplifter... even helped this certain mgr out the night a gentleman almost knocked her to the floor as he made his way laughing out of the store. She never even batted an eye after he stormed over her... May have been one of her many friends that visits her. I believe they call her Alexis or lexi.
But to my point a month has gone passed since my altercation with miss Alexis as she comes prancing rolling her eyes at me as I am putting about 100.00 or more on the conveyor belt. She tells the cashier not to ring up any of my purchases. As she is nosing through my stuff she smart mouths me and my 16 year old daughter. "Okay where is the lip balm and body spray you had." I explained it was on the shelf because I told her I couldn't get that right now it was not in the budget for the week. But yet she carries on like I am some hoodlum and continues to yell all kinds of inappropriate things to me and my daughter.
I asked if I could at least purchase my items that I had shopped over an hour for. She screams, "Hell no your ass is going to jail. We all know you and your daughter has been in here robbing us blind." So I said not one word more, she and I left the store not causing a scene. She told me not asked me to open my purse, she wanted to see for herself. If she would have chosen to treat the situation differently like a Mgr should have I would have gladly allowed her to do so. But to engage her finger snapping in my face and in my daughters face hell no.
As I was leaving she said, "You are never gonna bring your ass back in my store **." She brought the police to my house and he also took blame on me and how he is sick of being called every single watch to the Dollar store for shoplifters. He went to the back to view the so called tape. They had nothing... only us shopping. She has banned me from the store and my daughter as well as several other neighbors. I am not sure their reason but I just want the corp office to know if they think Alexis is a great employee they are so wrong. She stays on her phone, she has her friends meet out back by the dumpster. She is young and beyond rude judgmental on honest people. And if you could have heard all the flap talk she said to us in front of the store very racial.
I have told my entire family to never shop at Dollar General. My niece was asst Mgr and she couldn't believe she still had a job. That no one reported her. I do not need anyone to speak up for me. I know I am in no way a shoplifter nor is my child. But to whomever reads this you did lose a good customer. And I could care less who or what is stolen, they better not ask me which way did they run or did you see anything. My tag writing days to help the real crooks is over. I will continue to pray for miss Alexis. I sure hope she sleeps well at night with all the wrong she does. Thank you for your time.

At around 3:15 PM today, I went to the Dollar General store located on Republic Rd, Republic, PA 15475 to purchase a kiddie swimming pool. The store was very crowded and there was only one cash register opened. I got in line and was about the eighth person in line; as I got closer to the register, I noticed that a second line was formed going to the same register. Several of us asked about how customers were being checked out and were told we had to get in the second line. We moved into the second line and I was now at least the fifteenth person in line. A couple people were checked out and then the clerk said she was closing the register after the person in front of the man with the orange shirt was checked out and we had to move to another register.
None of the other registers were open but a cashier was going to a register and putting a key in it so we started to get in line there. She looked at us and said she was not opening that register that her shift was over and she was going home. At that point, I put the pool down and left. Although neither clerk was very nice, I don't really blame them as this store is always understaffed and they were obviously over-stressed. This is the only store of its kind in our town and is always quite busy... there is never enough staff to service the customers. I've also noticed that there is a big turnover in staff which suggests that working conditions there are not very good. I am sure this store loses many sales due its poor customer service.

In particular is Dollar General # 8226, 810 Madison Hwy, Valdosta, GA 31601-5975 which I have been shopping at since my arrival here in Valdosta. At first I was a little amused and fascinated by just how bad the employees and the manager were and like a science project mentally rated my shopping experience on each visit. In general it was never higher than one star except on the occasion of one fine day and they had a new employee, a young man, who greeted me on arrival and then took time at checkout to tell me about sale items and even corrected my sales ticket when it rang up the wrong price.
Sadly, I was never to see him again. In general, I am never greeted on arrival and the only possible answer I can fathom is because I am ** and the employees are all ** and appear to hate all ** people in this particular store. Did I mention that the ** customers are always greeted on arrival and frequently waited on before me even though I am next in line. I am treated very well at Dollar General # 11607, 3664 Madison Hwy, Clyattville, GA 31601-0970 which is just a few miles up the road but past my house. They have the exact same employment pool to pull from so I can only gather this is an anomaly specific to this location. Did I say hate? I should have said hate crime, because that is how I feel every time I shop there.
Moving on, store items are always in the wrong place and regular priced items are in sales slots, merchandise all over the floor, items in the clearance aisle are priced exactly the same as they were at full price, the manager who is **, is never to be found. I can only imagine she is hunkered down in a corner somewhere trying to figure out how to end it all. But let me tell you about today because this sealed it for me. I went in and whoever was behind the counter talking on her phone, no greeting as usual but I called out one just to do my part. I picked up some items and one in particular was Nail Stickers for your toes that were priced a dollar. Now last week I bought some for $3.00 and they never made it into my bag but today I said, "Well I will spend a dollar. It is time for the toes to get a makeover." I got up to the counter loaded down with heavy items because there are no shopping carts.
My inquiry into where they were was verbalized people steal them you know. As I looked around the store I saw all the shopping carts filled with merchandise that I assume was to be put away. So there I am at the counter, weighted down and the customer service representative, (a misnomer if there ever was one) is still not acknowledging me so I set my items down and waited to see if she would initiate the process. But no, I finally had to say "Here I am. Can you ring these up." I noticed that my $1.00 nail stickers rang up $2.70 which that price was displayed nowhere in that section and I said, "No, those are on sale for a dollar." Without even looking she said "Well they in the wrong place because that's the price. I promise you, that particular price is nowhere in that store." I said, "Well take them off please because I do not want them at that price."
She actually sighed and made a sound of disdain as if I had asked for the impossible and then yelled for **, the manager to come to the front. Several minutes passed and ** appeared and she did not acknowledge me either and I guess the price was taken off but I would not know because I was never given a receipt and she had already dismissed me and moved on to the next customer. I have been a manager in customer service positions for over 20 years. How can you continually hire the exact same nasty, rude employee type over and over for a year and hide your head in the sand like an ostrich.
Are they trained to behave in this manner? I can guarantee you this, I am not going to stop shopping there, but only to gather more data for my relentless bombardment of every national website and social media I can to post too. I will record conditions and treatment and keep on until you do something about it. I will become the Rosa Parks of the Dollar General corporation. I will take an ad out in the paper just to say my piece because it is not right to feel dirty and abused when walking out of a store that you just spent your hard-earned money in.

Dollar General #00224 Waynesville, MO - I come into this store very often, and it is always the same, merchandise up and down the rolls, without prices. I can get use to this, but the real problem is the employees. I have seen a long line at the registers and employees outside smoking with only 1 at the registers. I was in there today and the young man at the register was not very friendly. He wore shorts that were not pulled up and holes in his shirt. I don't really blame him, I blame the manager. They need to clean up the store, and the help.

I was at your Dollar General Store #15298 on 5/15 2016. Very poor service. Debris on the aisle floors to the point that you could not even get a cart down the aisle even if you tried. Empty shelves, you could not even get a cold drink as the coolers were empty. This is a pretty new store. Pathetic to let it get run down to the point it is. I will tell you that many town people are complaining to the point they are considering driving elsewhere to shop. There is no excuse for this. Sorry but your customers are going to to start dropping like flies. This is a small Amish county. You will also lose them as customers also. Thanks and I really hope you make an attempt to hire someone that can run and manage a store because it's not happening.

We were shopping Dollar General for clearance items for a charity donation. Went to the Dollar General at 319 Moursand San Antonio. Asked the cashier if they had the sale items. She said yes but didn't think there was any left. We found some in the racks and in a box on the sales floor. During sales they put clothes on racks and in boxes. We took shoes to the register to scan and they weren't on sale. The whole time we looked thru the box the manager walked down the main isle 3 or 4 times. We get to the register and the manager approached us said, "Where did you get those clothes?" I said, "From the box." She said very rudely, "Those aren't for sale, that's why they were in the box." I said, "Well they are at the other DG stores." Manager said, "Well that's why we pulled them this morning, they are NOT for sale." Again I said that they were at the other stores. Far as I knew the sale was still on.
The manager then proceeded to take everything out of my basket not even checking to see if I had regular priced items. I said, “You're taking everything?" Manager said, "YES they are a penny and NOT for sale." I informed her she shouldn't be talking to her customers like that and told my friend "Let's go." At the door a clerk said she's just doing her job. This was around 5pm, plenty of time to put the box in storeroom. Called customer service and sorry doesn't cut it. Called corporate, no response. Asked numerous people for regional managers number, no one will give it to me. DG has lost my 2-300 a month, my family and friends money.

I'm writing this review to bring attention to the dreadful behavior of a Dollar General employee at Store #10101, 2116 Highway 9 East, Dillon, SC. 29536. I am a 57 year old, ** female who frequents this store nearly on a daily basis at different times in the day due to the local convenience. On this day, 5-5-16, 2:30 p.m., I entered the store without being greeted or acknowledged in any sort of way by the cashier behind the register. I completed my shopping and proceeded to the unattended register to check out. Store employee was out on the floor and was visibly irritated by having to stop what she was doing to attend to her register. I had a cart full of groceries and miscellaneous items totaling $142.00.
At this point, employee still had not spoken a word to me even after I attempted to make friendly small talk with her. I emptied my cart of items on the counter and began to assist her by removing the completed bagged items to my cart. I was rudely called out for "snatching" the bags and moving the turntable while she was trying to bag other items. She not only had such a horrible attitude, she bordered on racial prejudice after not speaking to a ** person but speaking with the ** man in line behind me. She completed her insult by dismissing me with a "have a nice day" shrug and a smirk. She totally humiliated me in front of other customers and was totally disrespectful and unprofessional. She clearly should not be allowed to work in customer service. My experience was so unpleasant that I will no longer shop in this Dollar General Store while she is still employed there.

Since I have applied I have seen six different new employees and they are working more than 10 hours a week. I have many years of experience in retail and I have managed stores. I went in there today and 90% of the people that came in walked out with nothing. Everyone was complaining of their prices. I will never step foot in that store again. We have a Big Lots of Grocery Outlet or Walmart or Fred Meyers, a Ross and a few more cut their prices are actually cheaper than what Dollar General is. To our complete horror, we had the doors shut in our faces with one of the employees shaking her head as if to say they were closed despite there being 7 minutes left till closing. Not only is this a clear indication of false advertisement, but also a grand display of poor customer service. I will no longer be coming to this store because of it and I can only hope management sees this, and implements a change in the way they train their employees before they lose more customers.

Our small, rural community here in Northern California is only 10 miles from the nearest fully equipped city but we have a mom and pop grocery store here that's been in business for well over 50 years and 90+% of the community is happy with things the way they are. Recently we found out that Dollar General is moving one of its ugly chain stores directly across the street. They bought the property and slipped in under the radar without announcing their intent until there was nothing we as a community can do about it. 80% of the community signed a petition against their invasion. The court initially ruled in the communities' favor so Dollar General announced that if the court upheld this they would use their corporate might to sue our small county into bankruptcy. So the courts were forced to go back on their ruling and allow Dollar General to proceed with their putting up their eyesore in the middle of our already content rural town.
And I recently saw that Dollar General is teaming with a certain NASCAR driver that they sponsor to fight against teen bullying! What a giant chunk of hypocrisy that is. Dollar General are the king of bullies, they move in regardless of whether they are wanted and they bully the communities that don't want them by threatening them with their Multi-billion dollar corporate might. This is the most disrespectful and shady, deceitful corporation around. They are no different than the guy in school who shoves the quiet kid off of the bench onto the floor and sits down and eats his lunch and punches him in the face if he even looks upset.
The people behind the scenes at Dollar General are awful human beings who fake concern for multiple charities for nothing more than tax breaks..then they show their true colors and silence anyone who complains by threatening to sue them into poverty. Criminals who should be prosecuted for their misdeeds...every single one of them. About 4 days ago I was in Dollar General, the new one, on Jeff Davis and Osborne Rd in Chester, VA 3831. I decided to try your DG softener a large bottle that was sitting by itself on a clearance rack. I think it was 2.75 - (I'm sorry I did not keep my receipt). I shop in there quite often. If you check my name it is Jacqueline ** and you will see I am there often. When I ran out of my old softener, 2 days later, I tried the DG in my washer. It was just like water. I was supposed to have a mountain scent and you could not even smell the fragrance and it poured right through the place that "holds the softener" onto my clothes in the top loading washer. I let them wash and decided I would shake it for the 2nd load because maybe I had not shaken it properly the first time.
So, when it came time for the 2nd load, I shook it very well, and then proceeded to pour into the trough and it poured again, just like water. I first thought "man, maybe someone bought this, took it home and added water and took it back". I then called the store and the young man at store #06197 where I shop said "bring it back and I could get something in its place". So that evening, which was 2-10-2016 on my way to work at 5pm, I took it back. A young lady, (I do have my receipt for this but I don't see her name) said she would exchange it but it was half empty. I told her I didn't believe it was half empty unless someone else had used it before because I am a good and honest customer that shops there all the time.
But I did use more than normal because it just poured right through my dispenser instead of "it holding" the way a softener should. She kept saying she didn't know how to "ring it up". Several times she said this and then said for me to go get something else. So, I PURCHASED 2 BOTTLES OF SURVITEL @ 3.21 EACH. Thinking that was the least I could do since I was bringing something back. When I returned to the counter she was speaking on the phone to the young man who had told me to bring it back and she said, he said I didn't tell her I had used it.
I want you to know I made a film at home of how this softener looked and will be glad to send it to you. It shows the bottle and me pouring it into a glass bottle. I know that softener should not have been that weak looking, or weak at all, and It should have had a stronger scent. Anyhow, I got the blunt impression this young lady thought I was being dishonest and trying to "pull one" on your store. Why would I do that then purchase 2 more more expensive bottles? I was very embarrassed at her response.
Always in the past Dollar General would even take back something you were displeased with no matter what as long as you had a legitimate complaint. My receipt number for this last transaction is ** auth number is **. There are other ladies that work there in the store that would not have treated me in this manner because they know I shop there a LOT. I NEVER hardly EVER bring anything back. I really love the biscuit mix you sell and hair products. But if this is your policy to allow others to treat the customer in such a childish and degrading way, I will not go back. I drove to my local Dollar General. It states they close at 10:00 pm on the door. I got there at 9:46 pm the door was locked and so I knocked on the door several times, by the time someone walked to the door it was 9:48 pm. I asked "why are you closed? It's not 10 yet" and showed him my cell phone which read 9:48 pm. He said they were allowed to close ten minutes early if no customers are there in which I said "I'm here. I'm a customer and it's not even ten minutes til it's 9:48 pm" so he just shrugs his shoulder, a young slim ** guy. So I ask "does your manager know you're closed now?" He says "yes", so I ask "does the owner know you're closed?" He says "yes", so I ask "is your manager here?" He says "yes" so I ask to speak with her.
So he comes back with a young girl, a ** kinda heavier female with glasses and freckles that I know isn't the manager because I know the manager of the store, Matt and he wouldn't let this fly but I proceed to ask her, "why are you closed?" She says also "were allowed to close 10 minutes early." It was 9:49 pm at this time I tell her "I was here at 9:46 pm actually." So she asks "are you paying with cash or card?" I say "Cash. But what does that even matter why are the registers shut down 15 min before closing for no reason because I called the hotline number and they told me they saw no reason that store should be closed early." But anyway she lets me in. I'm looking around but couldn't find what I need. By the way I needed something for my 3 week old daughter's diaper rash and on top of that I had my three year old son with me in the cold waiting to get in this store that should be open anyway at the time.
But once I saw they didn't have what I needed which only took maybe 4 min. to find out, I went to walk out so I see the boy employee at the door again with another customer at 9:55 pm saying he couldn't let him in, and I knew the person on the other side of the door trying to get in to grab a few things. So the employee had the door cracked about a foot so I go to walk out and start to pull the door open while he's talking to the other customer the guy I know, and the employee tries to shut me and my son back in the store, so I tell him to "back off I'm leaving, what are you doing?" And he asks me, "you didn't find what you needed?" I say "no, and what does it matter anyway it's still not even 10 o'clock yet. The doors shouldn't be locked anyway."
So he lets me out the door and once I'm out I tell the other customer, the guy I knew what just happened to me and he says he's going to call the hotline, and I said the same too. So when the boy shuts the door and goes to walk away he shoots us the finger/bird with both hands. Remind you my 3 year old is next to me. I hope they check the cameras and fire their ass that was ridiculous and rude! It happened at the 1393 Hwy. 52 Bonneau South Carolina 29431 store between 9:46 pm and 10:00 pm on January 24, 2016. I did call the hotline but I doubt anything will happen. I know how most of those work, if I have to I will get their names and stand out in front of that store with a sign that says "this store closes at 9:45 pm not 10:00 pm and the employees are rude and give you the finger when you need something for your newborn child" in protest until something is done about these 2 lazy rude employees.
It's not any other employees there, just those 2. I shop this store everyday almost. I've even showed up for baby powder before at 9:58 pm for my now 3 year old son which was with me tonight. When all this happened the night at 9:58 pm the boy there then was nice and let me in because it wasn't 10 yet. There was no fuss, he was polite. But tonight these two employees don't deserve their job not dealing with customers. I'm serious, if the owner/s of Dollar General actually care then something will be done about this situation and others like it. To the owners or whoever will actually get some nads and do something about their store, don't believe my story. Look up the cameras for the Bonneau SC store at the date and time I gave and watch and you will see your employee shooting me the bird after I'm out the door and the rest of this unnecessary crap that went on.

I just don't understand why every time I visit my neighbor Dollar General store they can never change a hundred dollar bill, mind you I can understand that early in the morning is not a good time to hit a store with big bills. But I pass this store several times a day and they are always busy so you would think by 4 o'clock afternoon they could change a hundred. I guess I will just stop shopping there so I don't inconvenience your business by having hundred dollar bills, Walmart don't have a problem cashing them.

The store is dirty and lots of product is out of date. The staff is very rude and most are very unfriendly. Most of them play on their cell phones. The floors are dirty and the milk coolers are gross with spilled milk dried in them. No one takes the time to clean the store, shelves are very dirty, product is always thrown all around. My town is extremely financially depressed. We call DG the mall. There are no other businesses here. Our grocery store closed two years ago. There is one other grocery store in the county. We are extremely dependent on the Dollar General. They recently built a beautiful new store here. THE PROBLEM. The DG cash register totals are not viewable by the customer. So I ask the cashier how many more cans do I need to come up to $25 to get my discount? So she rings the items up and SWIPES the $5 Saturday coupon. When I get out to my car there is no reflection of the $5 credit because my total was fifteen cents short of $25. I would have picked up another can if I knew I needed fifteen cents to get my $5.
I do not blame this on the cashier. It has happened to me with many different cashiers. I CAN'T SEE MY SUBTOTAL AND I FEEL AS IF DOLLAR GENERAL IS DOING THIS SO THEY DON'T HAVE TO GIVE ME $5. And I say this because it is not the first time. This is happening to me over and over at the DG. If I go in and complaint, it takes 30 minutes to an hour to get my $5. And I feel like it takes so long because they know I am dissatisfied. But I don't care. Something needs to be said. How would you feel?

I spent $35 and I am telling you I will not come into that store again. I have several friends who have gone in there as well and treated the same way.
If you want people to buy at this store you need to talk to the Manager and tell her how we are complaining. She is very rude as well as the co manager. You need to send someone and not let them know and see how they are treated. I will not go back.... I will go to the Lizella DG as they know how to treat their people. I told her "that's what your price tag says & I expect it to be honored." I even asked her to walk back with me to confirm what I saw. She said "hell no, I'm tired."
I asked for the store manager & she stated "that's me Latoya" or Latonia. I said "how am I expected to buy something if the pricing is not even correct?" She could care less so I mentioned that maybe she change the sale prices to what they should reflect. She told me that she could give a ** so I left my merchandise on the cabinet & left. She was very rude, spoke poorly, & was wearing house shoes. Made me VERY UNCOMFORTABLE. I went on browsing because sometimes they put things on sale and nowadays we all need a break. And finally I turned and looked at her and replied, "May I help you? I noticed you were glaring at me all the time I was browsing." She commented to me, "We have had some kids stealing makeup." Looking at her I replied. "DO I LOOK like a child to you? As I'm looking I picked up one or two, read the backs and said nope I'll go to Walmart and get the ones I need. So I then proceed to go down the health and beauty section and look for my children, which were browsing in the store. I proceeded to go to the register to pay for my items and I was approached by a lady (didn't catch name, Carrie I believe) and she asked me "I need for you to return those headphones out your purse."
My first reaction was shocked and appalled that she accused me and was profiling me and my children. I calmly let the lady know I didn't have any earphones in my purse and walked her back to the section where I placed them back. So she then proceeded to say, "Oh she had other incidents of stealing that day" (Charlie Brown) BLAH BLAH BLAH is all I heard.
Cashier finished cashing me out and I got my receipt and left. As I'm leaving my children kept asking, "Mommy why did that lady accuse you and wasn't that embarrassing?" I bought 10 packages of popcorn containers and found they were too small. I was in the store yesterday and bought 20 larger ones. When I tried to return the 10 original packages today, even with a receipt, I was told they don't ever give refunds. All I was able to do was to buy 10 MORE non-food items on the day I tried to return them. Well, since I just bought 20 items the day before, there wasn't anything I wanted. Why should I have to buy 10 more items when I just bought 20 of the same but larger items the day before.
This was the first AND LAST time that I will ever go to this store. They are immoral, greedy and sneaky in their business practices since they definitely don't let anyone know ahead of time there are never any refunds. I called almost everyone I know today and warned them. Not one of them knew about this policy. I will continue to let people know to beware that they should never buy multiple items there because even if they are wrong for them, they won't get a refund.
Shame on Dollar General for their greed. I will just lose the money that I can't really afford to lose and I don't have a use for buying 10 items of their junk which I was told had to be bought all at once. I would understand a gift card for the dollar amount if I didn't have a receipt like some stores do. In very small print at the bottom of the receipt it states they do not give refunds, I can't even read it without reading glasses which I usually don't need. So yesterday, I went to the Dollar General located in my very small town. I have shopped there since 1994 and I live less than four miles from the store. Since 1994, I have invested in my local economy by frequenting the local vendors. To date, at this store, I have spent, according to my bank records, over $10,000 since 1994 and made over a thousand trips to the store.
I am a homeowner. My bank is local and it is located just down the street from the Dollar General. My house is located less than 2 miles away. I am a local business owner, although my business is not in the same town, but in the same county. I am in the latter half of my 50s and my credit rating is excellent. I forgot my personal debit card yesterday. I did not want to mix my personal purchases with my business account, so I pulled out a check instead of my business debit card. And the store check security system, CERTEGY declined my purchase of $31.31, twice. Of course with a line of people, it was more than embarrassing to be told by a young teenager that my transaction was declined.
I waited 30 minutes to reach someone on the phone. I was told my check was declined because of my risk factors. The associate told me that it was not based on my account balance. She further informed me that if I chose to register with their company, I would not likely have a refusal in the future. My conclusion is that it is a means to force customers to register with a company that is NOT local, and has obviously not a clue about what risk factors are. Twenty years as a store customer. A check for less than $50 at a local bank. A person invested in the local community. Yep, I won't be spending one more dollar at Dollar General, Needville, Texas. Not in this lifetime.

Your CEO is not in touch and or your store manager if you cannot get this issue resolved. I counted 27, yes. 27 pot holes in your parking lot. Some 4-feet across and at least 10 inches deep. Really. Get your head out of the sand and get some respect for your customers. This issue has been ongoing for over a year. Dollar General Store 5775 N US Hwy 27 Ste 9, Science Hill, KY 42553. This is by far the most unsanitary, the most disorganized and the most DANGEROUS Dollar General Store I have visited in all my years as being a patron of this particular business! The aisles are always overloaded with merchandise on pallets and in carts waiting to be shelved. When the shelves are full, the CSR sets the leftover merchandise in the floor. A person literally has to navigate around the merchandise in the floor in order to get to what you are looking to purchase. The floors are so nasty that it felt gross to walk on them even in shoes. Some of the shelves are so unsanitary that it makes a person think twice about the purchase. I literally witnessed a customer tripping over a pallet of drinks while I was speaking to the manager about the condition of the store.
The amount of merchandise in the floors and blocking the aisle is ridiculously unsafe (a lawsuit waiting to happen). My conversation with the manager was fruitless. Her excuses were (1) she had a lot of paperwork to do, (2) the owners will only pay to clean the floors twice a year, (3) she herself works more than 60 hours a week to keep the business going. Unfortunately this store is the only store in this small community to shop at aside from a convenience store. ALSO I tried sending a store review to General Dollar Corporate but their website would not take the review once you hit the submit button. After several tries I found your site. Unfortunately I did not take pictures but I guarantee that 1 week, or 1 year will not make a difference. This store has been this way for years now. The owner, regional manager and manager should be held accountable.

Which I did and again was told I was not in their computer. He asked me did I fill it out completely? I answered yes that I even got an email saying it was completed, received, and being viewed. He then told me I still was not in their system to check back in a couple more days.
I called him in two days and he told me I still was not in their system, did I call the 800 number he told me to call. I told him he did not give me a 800 number. I heard her talking to him and he immediately got on the phone. When I told him the District Manager pulled me up and that I was in their system, he told me to hold on. While waiting on the phone, I overheard him telling someone, "There is this girl on the phone and she does not even have enough sense to fill her application out online as easy as it is, I don't know if I want her in my store." Then he came back on the phone and told me I was not in their system.
I told him I overheard what he just said about me being stupid to his employees and he said, "I only told one." I told him one was too many and he was wrong to talk that way about me. He said, "Well you are still not in our system." I told him I would call his District Manager back because he said I was. He said, "Wait just a minute, I see you are in there too but I have already filled that position now." He said, "You didn't have experience working in a place like this anyway." I told him if he would have looked at my application, he would see were I worked at that same Dollar General Store he is at now. He said, "Well that position has been filled."
The position was full-time assistant manager but he did tell me I could apply for a part-time cashier. I also forgot to mention, on my first initial visit to him at the store we were talking, he said "people here do things wrong." I said "what do you mean?" He said "you should never eat anything raw out of the ocean and you all should not be eating oysters." The manager at that Dollar General had a cocky attitude to me and cost me a job.

First there wasn't no southern hospitality when I walked and the guy looked right at me! I'd purchased three items as soon as I placed the items on the counter, the same guy was behind the counter. He didn't say "I'll be with you shortly", he just walked off as if I was not standing there waiting for seven minutes! It was a very awful, unpleasant experience and a lousy and unsatisfactory service! I hope the owner sees and does something about the man who has bad customer service!

The workers are all VERY SLOW when there's a whole line of people waiting to check out. There was one day I came in with a bunch of change to buy toilet paper, that's all I had for a week, and a woman had a nasty hissy fit about it, and says "you get to count that." I go there now ONLY if I really have to since the closest Walmart is a half hour away. Before, I wanted to work for Dollar General - it's close to home but the website is even a joke. It's all games!

On September the 26th about 8:00 pm. I was at the register paying for my stuff and saw the weekend manager coming and told her I found a cookware dish for her because she was needing things for her kitchen. We (our) church had a rummage sale that day and she was there with her husband and it was about 4 or 5 that afternoon and was getting close to shutting it down. I asked her what she was looking for because we had boxed a lot of the stuff and some of the trailer had already left to take to the landfill. She said needed pots and pans, stuff for the kitchen. So I told her it would be over by some boxes on the ground, so I started helping her find what she needed. They didn't stay too long, but I kept on looking and found one dish I thought she could use.
Anyway I went home, cleaned up and went by my pastor's house and delivered some things to his wife I knew she wanted and then I stopped by Dollar General and gave her the bakeware. That's when she told me she didn't like me, could not stand the looks of me or the sound of my voice and told me not to come back in her store. So Monday I called the corporate offices and they listen to my story and said someone would be calling me shortly. I have waited over a week and now it's the 9th of October and still no call. So I called them and they are not going to do a thing about this!!!! I am so disappointed in stores and all the corporate stuff. Doesn't anyone care anymore about how things are being done or how people are being treated in store. So disappointed. I think I will call my attorney and really do something about this!!!! Since Dollar General doesn't care anymore!!!!!

Hello. Went into a Dollar General in 29 Palms, CA this evening around 8:30 pm and picked up my items. Went to the register to pay for my items when I realize I had a lot of change in my pocket. So as I proceeded to get my change out my pocket, place it on the counter. As I was trying to get more, Chang the cashier, was being very rude asking me that I have $0.42. My response was "I'm trying to get it, and I feel that I'm being rushed." There was no one else at the register but myself. Manager proceeded to walk up and said that she wasn't rushing me. My response was "I'm sorry. I feel like I'm being rushed. There's no one else in line behind me and I don't feel like that was very nice."
I felt double teamed and most of my experience coming to this certain store has been very unpleasant. I feel that I'm being disrespected and condescending. There's something that needs to be done about the situation - an angry customer that will never return. I work too hard to spend my money at this location. Something needs to be done about this.

I told him to call the police if they want me searched. When the police arrived he asked what happened. The guy told the cop he saw me slip something in my pocket. The cop's response was "There's nothing in those pockets." He said "Ma'am you can go home and thanks for waiting for us to come." The whole time the store manager stated that searching customers was part of their process. Really? Seems like a violation to me. When finished she said something but with other people talking loud, I could not understand. Plus I'm dead in one ear. I looked at register and did not see a total so I asked her the price again. Then she got an ugly attitude and blurted the amount louder and very hateful… looking mean at me. I tried to explain that I could not hear her and about not hearing good. She was still hateful! I was allowed to hear all of this just being a Dollar General customer shopping that day and this should be zero tolerance. Complaints should be private and confidential at all times.

We hired a Lead Sales Associate also known as a "third key" via store 11949 in Selbyville, DE. This associate is beyond rude to employees, and customers. Many customers have told me that this particular employee is very rude to them as well and asks where to report this employee. I always refer them to the survey. However I'm wondering how many people it takes for a company to actually fire an employee if they get so many complaints about employees via the survey. Now, with my experience with working with this employee they are constantly rude, and blatantly ignorant towards me since the first day I've worked with this employee. Tonight she wouldn't tell me what my drawer was over or under and kept that information from me and wouldn't even bother to speak to me. Also, I'm going to list a few things that is just highly unprofessional that this particular employee does:
She says "move" whenever she has to give me change. She takes forever to come to the front to give change, void an item, cancel transactions, refund/exchange, etc. She makes customers wait until the point they ask me if the manager is coming and I have to page her about 3 times before she walks over. She ignores my change request and makes me empty out the rest of my coins and then tells me I should've told her that my draw was low when I actually have done this about 40 minutes before. She ignores me if I ask a her question, it could be anything - she seems to respond when she wants to. She brings police into the store because she has a 'stalker'. Keep this out of the workplace it's endangering the employees. She can call police at own house in her own time/privacy to report said 'stalker' if there is really a stalker.
She is constantly on her cell phone away from the cameras and makes it appear as if she is working, but really not - wasting company money. I have caught this numerous times. She forgets bag checks, and leaves the store with her bag without getting it checked by me. I think she is tampering with my drawer at the end of the night to get me fired. I could go on and on about this employee but I'm not going to waste any more of my time continuing this review as it seems that Dollar General actually doesn't care about bad employees, just the profit they make from certain stores based on previous experience in reporting this employee to management, or at least attempting to before getting shut down by a manager.
If Dollar General upper management, or DM wants to contact me and I hope you will because I'm counting on it, you can call the store at 302-436-4331, and my cashier number is 9898. I'm sick of this abuse from said employee and won't tolerate it any longer, it has been going on since July and I'm truly sick of it. This is NOT a professional environment to work in.

Then when I asked "why," the answer I get is "because I said so, we do it to everyone." I refuse explaining not only is my money in my book bag but I have never had to do so in the past and there is no sign saying I must do so.
His response was "Miss you need to listen and give up your and your son's book bags, none else is refusing why are you being difficult?" After I refused a older dirty looking man approaches and says the same thing. I once again explained, "I have my money and my personal belongings in here. I'm coming from school and so is my child plus it's protocol that you state that on the door just like you have all other notifications." The manager rolls his eyes and states, "Give up your bag or get out!" Again I refused, he threatens me with the police, said to go ahead but I'm going to need the number to customer service. He states he's not going to give me anything. I asked for names, they refused (no name tags visible).
I once again insist on a name. He says, "Ron, tell them the store manager made you get out!" Scowl on faces and arms folded! Then to add insult to injury over the PA system I'm told that I am being asked to leave from this location!! Not was I embarrassed and bullied by 2 men twice my size in front of my child and all I wanted was supplies for school, to be treated like this by anyone is deplorable especially from a major chain! She explained we had to purchase $20 of DG brand CLEANING SUPPLIES to get the discount. This after weeks of purchasing just storewide items to get the discount. Cashier would be on a 15-minute break but would take 25. Cashier was not written up. Store # is 14702. Cashier would be on the phone in front of the camera and I told manager, but still nothing. Manager needs to be written up for not following store policy and so does cashier.

They are the worst company ever. They are such a poor dirty company. All their stores are dirty and smell bad. The floors are nasty the shelves are always a wreck. I have never come into contact with a nice clean one. They apparently hire the most uneducated low life people. On top of them being this they are also rude and unfriendly. Which brings me to my next thoughts. Given all this and a title they aren't even priced low. Wal-mart Kroger Sam's club basically anywhere beats their prices all day long. Next, when you do get something wrong they don't accept returns. They have the worst return policy. The stuff they sale is usually outdated and in bad condition. They have lost my business for life for being a low end nasty rude establishment. I hope they go under!

I have done survey after survey letting it be known this store is an accident waiting to happen. I'm 39 and today I tripped over merchandise in the floor and I had to physically open the boxes to get what I needed and then the other item I needed was behind a large iron step ladder that had so much products on it. I could not see over the top. It had to have been seven foot tall covered in all varieties of things because when I moved it stuff fell all over. Tried to pile it all back on but it wouldn't stay but I got my frosted mini wheats. Our area is so blessed to have this store and it is very busy but now you cannot go down an aisle just to get the basics. Never mind getting to look at any deals they may have.
No one could imagine the shape this store is in. If you do find something on a shelf look out because the whole shelf falls over on you. You can't walk down any aisle in the store and the shelves are never stocked. You have to find the boxes near the aisle they should be in and open them yourself. I mean come on, please watch your step and don't trip. Look down at the floor as you walk and keep another eye looking above your head. Don't worry about getting a buggy to push to get your items because you can't get the buggy down the aisle. This store is located at 306 John McGhee BLVD in Caryville and every person in Caryville was absolutely ecstatic when we first got it but now the store is in need of some upper management to come in and see what is going on.
Do they need more employees? If they do give it to them and show them the fall precautions. This store is truly a accident waiting to happen. Someone please above the employees there comes see what is going on. You all are losing good paying customers just because they can't walk up and down the aisle. I as many other caryvillians do not like to drive to the Walmart and whose ever idea to put this Dollar General store in Caryville had a brilliant idea. We just need someone to come and see what is going on and fix it please.

The company has sent over 10 $5 coupons to use in their store since grand opening along with General Dollar on Alex Bell Rd. They never honor the coupons and purchases were 20 dollars or more. Brought in a coupon that allowed a FREE Friskies can of cat food and was extorted, told that they will only accept if I buy something. But it says purchases not required. They know and said to try another store. Or they say their coupon is not being recognized in their computer yet they are the ones who sent it. I have spent some serious money and by the FTC marketing rules they have broken several of them. I know cause we do surveys regarding this. Customers even walked out when they noticed the cashier who has glasses and short hair (white lady) did this to both black customers and military family member.

I started at work with Dollar General almost 3 weeks ago part time. I informed my manager that I was looking for a second part time job. She said nothing about having a problem with it. So I found a second part time job and when I went to my manager about my schedules working out so I wasn't scheduled to be in two places at once she told me I would have to choose between my two jobs. I have 4 kids and really needed a full time job, but since I couldn't finds full time job I figured I'd get two part time jobs. I enjoyed working at Dollar General (no matter how difficult my boss made it) and I'd still be working there if she hasn't been so difficult to communicate with.
My manager also said she doesn't hire men (which I thought was a little sexist) and she only had 1 other employee that was full time. There is 7 employees at this Dollar General including the boss and only two of those 7 were full time. The ones that were part time got no more than 20 hours, the full time employee got 32 and the boss got about 53-55 hours a week.

The digital coupons barely work and the $5/$25 is supposed to be before tax after all Dollar General discounts... meaning I use $5/$25 first pre-tax then all my manufacturing coupons... none of the employee know this. I hate how Dollar General advertises like they are coupon-friendly when they are not at all! Every store I've gone to is trashy as well. Floors are disgusting and everything is unorganized. There's barely any room to walk down the aisles, prices are never correct on the shelf. Customer service calls and emails are worthless, they NEVER get back to you. Always liked DG to shop at, especially with the $5 coupon weekly deal. Last 3 weeks, the DG at 2217 Rockingham Rd Davenport IA has been horrible! Today was the final straw. The $5 coupon printed from the DG website, according to the rude cashier, that it was applied. It was not. The cashier says, "Oh, it showed on my screen, so that's all I need to see." The receipt is the proof: it did not get applied. If it did, there would have been minus signs after each item and TOTAL SAVINGS: would have noted $5. It only noted the $0.25 coupon used. The "manager" named ** said "Oh, we have to add up the prices to make sure you had the right amount." I spent #33.85 which constitutes being able to use the $5 coupon.
The rude cashier says, "I have to add up the items, not you." He tried using his cell phone calculator and could never get it right. I said "if you multiply the many items that are the same, then add, you'll get the price." His response: "I don't know how to multiply." Proof right there that DG will hire any idiot to work there. I hold a Masters in Accounting, I can add up the receipt, but the rude cashier gave me so much crap that "we have to do it." But was incompetent. The manager **, after 20 minutes of dealing with this issue says, "Bring your stuff back in, we will rescan and take off the $5." SERIOUSLY! He couldn't get the register opened to get the coupon; the rude cashier says, "It expires on the 22nd." Which is today; and the rude cashier just wasn't going to believe that the coupon was never applied!
After 3 weeks of such nonsense, I will no longer shop at DG. When they hire idiots who cannot do basic math and idiots who continue to disbelieve the customer, then DG can lose my business to Wal-Mart, another store that has absolutely no praise by anyone. More ma & pa shops need to be opened - That's where TRUE customer service is, always was, and they hired people who believe the customer and fired the employees for being jerks to the customer; for they value customer service more than anything else. After 15 years of being a DG customer, it ends today.

We arrive at 9:55 to learn they've been closed for 10 minutes already. Walmart is better! Even Family Dollar is better! If you're gong to close at 9:45 publish it and we'll abide. She also works at the local public school, so she knows ALL the kids but only says hi to those of the same skin color.
This morning, I watched her belittle a customer in front of other customers. It's not everyone's business how I pay or how anyone pays, as long as they pay. She quickly without even asking made the assumption that this lady was paying with food stamps, so the machine wouldn't process this lady's debit card. So she says very loud for practically the whole store to hear, "Oh well, you usually pay using your debit so I just assumed that's how you were paying." That was very rude and unprofessional. You really should either shop next door at family dollar or go to high springs to the other dollar general.

I did learn a lot about retail since they will require you to receive trucks and vendor merchandise. Separate, stock, and recover the store all while working a register. Sounds like a lot for one person? Well, if you're pretty good at it that's exactly how many people will be scheduled. One person!
I rarely was able to take a lunch or break which they do pay you for but it isn't optional. How am I supposed to say, "no, I would like my lunch," when nobody is there to tell. Then the DM will constantly be telling you, "no more lunch premiums or else." Like it was my fault they won't hire enough people so I have lunch coverage. I worked more hours than my store mgr. and the other ASM. I was ultimately fired for working off the clock by one of the same mgrs who had no problem calling me at home as early as 6am with work related issues while I wasn't scheduled or to come in to get him out of a jam on my time off. But 2 days after an argument with him I was terminated for printing a few papers on the computer off the clock. This place is a joke. The managers are shoddy at best and will find any reason to berate you and blame you for them not getting their job done. They give you one day off a week if you're lucky. You can go 7-9 days without a day off to be told need to be available on your day off to come in. Oh and to mention those days you don't get over time because they use a loophole and put you on 4-5 days one week and the remainder the next pay week. They expect you to work and work and work with 2-3 hours to get the impossible task list they give you and baby their favorite employees? "Oh, try to get this done."
Don't ever take a higher position because then you'll be left alone A LOT. Like 4-8 hours by yourself. They also expect you to learn strictly from their computer program and what not. No real training from a manager or someone that has been there a Long period of time. More training was given by a hotel and a gas station than this place. Let's also mention that some store managers like to ask people to do things off the clock. OFF. THE. CLOCK. That for one is against their own handbook and against labor laws.
Then when something doesn't get done the way they want - guess what? You're threatened with a write-up or being fired. They call on your day off and harass you. They call early in the morning to complain and harass you. They want robots not people. Worse job to experience. Also if you're sick don't call in, they won't let you as you're suppose to suck it up and do your job 100% but ASM and SM can go home early if they feel ill. Don't work for this company unless you want to experience stress and feel Belittled.

I often go shopping with my 4 year old and tend to buy clothes in excess, go home to try them on and then keep what looks nice and fits well then return what I do not want. I went to the 19 Ave and Camelback Rd location in Phoenix which is close to my house, so we would shop there often for various items. The day I went in I spent over $100 and had about $40 in clothes. Two of the clothing items I did not want because a dress was made of thin material and I knew it would not last, besides that although it was black, it was see through in the sun. The other was a loose fitting shirt, but when I tried it on I realized it was a 2X and far too big.
I went back to the store about a week later, like 6 days with my receipt and told the cashier I wanted to return the two items. I listened to her talk about how much she hated her job, even though I always thought she was the best employee they had there. When she told me the amount I was getting back, it was $2 less than what I paid for it. I told her there must be a mistake and recounted it from my original receipt. She told me the items were now on sale and that I was subject to the new price. Politely I argued that I could understand if I did not have my receipt, but I did and that wasn't right. Someone behind me in line told me I was holding the line up, but I did not care at that point because fair is fair and it was only a week ago, maybe less that I made the purchase, so I requested to talk to a manager.
A man came over from the store office and said he was on the phone with the regional manager when the other employee explained the situation to him and that the regional manager said no, they could not return my original purchase price. He even had the nerve to say, "you are going to make this big of a deal over $2" and I told him "yes, I work hard for my money and that sounds like a shady policy. What if I purchased a more expensive item and this happened, wow your company must make a lot off of gypping people with their returns."
He flat out refused my plea and when the other employee saw I was buying my daughter a big pack of M&Ms she said they would give me them for free to make up the difference. I said "NO THANK YOU", requested a photo copy of my original receipt because they told me they needed to keep it and I let them know I would be calling the Channel 3 On Your Side news segment because I imagine that's fraudulent when a customer has a receipt. They told me to see their return policy online when I asked why they did not have it posted anywhere, as they should. The website talked about 100% customer satisfaction, which actually made me laugh out loud. I have not shopped in this store since, except when we were out of toilet paper and it was late. I was a store manager out on FMLA. Accusation came about employee stealing. Company cctv review showed nothing. They fired me because they said I was negligent. How do I become negligent if an employee steals when I am out on leave? Their security camera showed no theft. The accuser sent pictures to my personal phone. I forwarded them to loss prevention, but I got fired. How is that fair? But no lawyer will help me because SC is an at-will work state and they say an employer can fire you for no reason.

This has to be the absolute worst place to ever work. Had I known, I would have never accepted the job as Asst Manager for this company. No training, not even a quick job overview from the then store manager, who quit as well. If I had only known! This company will leave you short staffed, over worked and underpaid. They owe me for a raise I was promised by the district manager, overtime that was not put in the system correctly by the manager and expense money for working at another store 50 miles from here. The dm listens to all the gossip and gets herself involved, you are either in this "click" with her and the felons or you aren't. Obviously, I wasn't!
This job experience I could have survived a lifetime without. Best advice to job seekers, skip this place! They will lie to you, cheat you and all without a kiss. I don't even understand how they have stayed in business this long. It's really too bad because I had hoped there might be a future there, boy am I glad I didn't waste any more time than I did. AND WHY YES, I do hope the above mentioned watch these comments, any rebuttal will be met with sheer enthusiasm!

I work at Dollar General in Edgemere Maryland and I usually work the register. I have tried to deal with customer complaints but the general manager is never around when I need him the most. I have customers telling me that Karl ** is never around when the cashier needs him. He is nowhere to be found. I recently had a problem with accepting coupons and I needed and customers had to go looking for him. Other customers have informed that they are tired of talking to when he does not even care about the customers at all. There was a safety issue in the store on 6/29/2015 when I entered the store to work my shift. There was an orange extension cord was laying on the floor between the main register and register 1 and I saw a black over top of it.
I have noticed that the general manager didn't care about any customer complaints and other customers have seen a former employee stealing and the customer mentioned to the manager on duty, and the general manager didn't give a damn about her constantly stealing items from the store. I thought that managers were supposed to bias and not saying that one employee is better than the other. Instead he goes outside and he criticizing other employees behind their back and I think that he does just to piss his employees off. He decides that he is going to give a pregnant girl her job back. She never worked her shift for the last three days that she was scheduled, and you think that he would hire her back and she is just a wasted body. I tripped over this extension cord and the mat and I am still in pain.

I was writing this report because I had a bad experience at your Dollar General store. I go to the store yesterday, the store on 72nd and Blondo. I drove up, one worker, ** male, was standing there laughing and talking with a young lady. They began to laugh, use me for the jokes and I didn't like it but I didn't say anything. I find my items and go to checkout, no one was at checkout. I had to go outside and get the young man to come in so I can pay and read. So he's coming, walking slowly, didn't even say sorry. What he said to me at the cash register was he could have got a girl's number if he didn't have to bring me out so I told him, "If you want to get girls' numbers shouldn't you be working at a club or Dateline?" He got mad so I change on the counter then walked away. This store sucks and I will not return to it.

I went to the Dollar General as I have been doing for 17 years. They all know me in this small town, and I am a regular customer in good standing. It was storming that day, and it knocked out the ability of the machine to run a debit card. They made me wait in line for 15 min, without telling anyone this was the case. Ok.. I went home, and got my checkbook, because they said I could write a check. When I got back, I stood in line for another 15 minutes, and they told me that they could not take a check, and I had to go to a money machine and get cash.
At this point, I was soaked, pissed off, and told them I would not be buying anything there, and would never again. Nor would my relatives. I got some money out of the machine, and bought my items from another store down the street. They lost 50 dollars that day, and whatever else I might have spent in the future. Apparently, being a repeat customer in good standing means nothing to this company. I will never darken the door of a Dollar General again.

We shop at Dollar General primarily at 45th and Western, Amarillo Tx. I have asked many times for them to carry regular unflavored Potato Sticks and they seem not care because after numerous request and over a year, they have not had the product available. This is not the only product we purchase from your stores. We like your Clover Valley brand of potato sticks more than any other brand. Please talk to your 45th & Western store manager about getting and keeping this product. Thank you.

I have worked for a Dollar General for almost 3 years now, and I would give a word of warning to anyone thinking of applying to this company. DON'T! This company doesn't care about their employees at all. Our store has been understaffed the entire time I have worked there which makes it very hard to get anything done, they expect you to run the register, stock and face the shelves, check in the vendors, and anything else that comes up, all by yourself. We have been asking our district manager for help for the last 2 months, he ignores our emails and calls, has only showed up twice this whole year and tells us we look better than most stores, and to stop worrying so much.
We had an inventory yesterday, and when it didn't go great and his boss chewed his butt out for not spending any time in our store, he blew his top and told our manager that we are all a bunch of useless lazy people that need to be replaced. I basically stock the whole truck alone every week, I work my tail off for that place without so much as a thanks. My manager put up the schedule. I happened to be off the day before and the day of inventory, I asked her if she was sure she didn't want me to be there, but she told me it was the only way she could work it out, so I didn't think anymore about it until I started getting phone calls and texts wanting me to come in ASAP. I called my boss and reminded her that she had scheduled me off and I didn't arrange for a babysitter on my days off, so I couldn't come. The DM told her that if I couldn't be more flexible when I was needed then she needed to get rid of me!
She then texted me at 10:30 that night and said she needed me to come in the next day (also my day off) at least 7 am to 10am. I managed to work that out, but he got pissed when I left saying I needed to have backup plans in place for "this babysitting thing". Hellooooo I'm a single mom that doesn't make a ton of money. I only pay a babysitter when I have to. And I'm not gonna leave my 1 and half year old son with just anyone. You can tell this guy has never had to worry about who's taking care of his kids. He is also a jerk that wanted me replaced when I had to be put on bed rest during my pregnancy for preeclampsia! These high level management guys don't give a crap about their employees. But if you desperately need a job and are willing to be treated like dirt, go for it.

Yes I have a complaint on Dollar General on Goliad hwy here in Victoria TX. They say they caught me stealing and told me to leave that day and when I return today with nothing in my hands they kick me out for no reason. Went in the store with my sis in law who is 8 months pregnant. I wasn't told to not come back. I feel really disrespected by the guy that was working and was yelling saying that I was trying to steal the last time which I wasn't. I'm no longer gonna shop at the Dollar General anymore. I've never been disrespected the way I was today. Thanks to your employees. You've lost business from someone that shops at Dollar General.

I went to Dollar General Store #08646 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. I went in to purchase a OneVanilla Prepaid card, I told the Cashier I needed 105.00 put on the card. I had a few more items and my total came up to $120 something. When I got in my vehicle I looked at the receipt and saw she "added" 100.05 to my card NOT $105.00. I went immediately back into the store and the Cashier called the Manager. The Manager said there was nothing that could be done, except me give her $20.00 more and she can add the 5.00. I told her that was not my mistake, it was her Employee mistake and I shouldn't have to spend more money to fix her mistake.
I called Dollar General Customer Service and they informed me a REFUND could be given on the prepaid card. The Store Manager said that Dollar General Customer Service does not know their system and the way the Cash Register is set up so they shouldn't say that. By this time I was very upset and just fed up with the whole situation. When I went back to my vehicle to pay the bill over the phone with the OneVanilla prepaid card, the Company kept declining my purchase. I knew since a good 2 hours had lapsed that would have given more than enough time to hit the card. I called OneVanilla Customer Service and they informed me the cashier at Dollar General did not activate the card correctly and no money was on the card!!!
I was LIVID by this time. I walked back into the store and told the Manager I WANTED MY MONEY BACK NOW. The Cashier did not activate the card correctly and I can't even use the $100.05 that I paid the cashier. The Manager explained the Cashier was "New," it was only her 3rd day and maybe she did make a mistake. We'll I'm so sorry Dollar General does not train their employees well, but I work hard for my money and do not appreciate people playing with it. I had to call OneVanilla back and do a claim, I had to fax over my ID and Receipt and once the department looked over the claim, they would put the money on the card within 3 business days. Are you serious, who has 3 days to wait??? I called Dollar General Customer Service line and still waiting to receive a call back regarding this situation!!! I'm still without my money and nobody SEEMS TO WANT TO RIGHT THE SO MANY WRONGS!!!

I was in Dollar General this evening with my mother. After running in for cat food, we went to check out at the first register. We were second in line and the transaction before ours was being paid for with change, so you can imagine it took quite a while before it was our turn. When it was our turn we put the basket of cat food on the register and waited for the cashier to check us out. We had noticed she moved away from the register, but thought she was only going to be a second. Unfortunately, she failed to notify us that she was closing her register and moving to register 2. A young male cashier told us after several minutes and after everyone else who was in line after us, which was about 10-15 people, were checked out. So we moved register 3 which is the register that he told us he was going to be at. We waited for him to check us out, but apparently the phone call that he took was more important than checking us out in a timely manner.
So, we moved to register 2. After moving to 3 registers for cat food, you can imagine we were a little angry and frustrated that we were just being able to check out. Keep in mind everyone behind us was able to check out before we were able to do so. I brought it up to the female cashier on register 2 that I believe it was bad customer service and that we should have been treated better. Rather than understanding my frustration the cashier asked me why I continue to shop there if It was such a problem. I asked what her name was because at that point I knew I wanted to file a complaint. She failed to give me her name, but rather asked what my name was. Then mumbled to me that her name is **.
An older lady who was stocking in the back of the store came to the front and claimed to be a manager, which I have a hard time believing because of the way she was speaking to my mother and me. She, before even hearing the story about what was happening; Starting spewing nonsense about how they are short-handed and that they are mistreated often by customers and that I should blame her instead of her cashier that was doing her job. She completely failed to understand that the complaint had nothing to do with them being short-handed, but rather how bad their customer service skills are.
Now I do often shop at that Dollar General because it is very conveniently located near my home, and I must say their lines at the checkout are ALWAYS really long before they open another register. The cashiers are never really nice or make eye contact, but never is the situation bad enough for me to want to or even think of filing a complaint. Today, however... We were treated so rudely that I will never step foot into that Dollar General again. I see myself as a valued customer who has spent several dollars at that store in the past and by them failing to see the problem, but rather blame the customers is utterly ridiculous.

While her husband was checking out the manager followed my daughter outside accusing her of stealing a lighter & a drink for my granddaughter. Showed no proof of the actions. Just saying she did telling my daughter she looked at the camera didn't see anything because she did it fast.
The law was called. The officer told my daughter & her family not to go back to the dollar General & spread the word about how my daughter was treated... The manager could even prove what she was accusing my daughter of the officer. Poor misguided management I say & something needs to be done & a apology needs to be given to my daughter.
