Just bought a new bag Thursday night and my cats started throwing up - everyone. One of them is meowing in pain first. I was trying to figure out what the heck was so different. Looked around to see if they got into something... Nothing... then my dog got into the cat food and he started vomiting. Yes, it was the cat food. I buy this all the time. Never had a problem. This is awful. The company just wanted to give me a coupon for another bag. After reading all this, I am afraid too.

I would buy Purina complete at Walmart for years. They ended up changing the formula and we noticed our cats kept puking several times a day. This went on for a long time. We could not figure out what was wrong with our cats. I even bought wheat grass for the cats and planted it in the house for their tummies. I happened to go to Petsmart and get the Cats a different kind of food and noticed, no more puking. I saw someone post a article re: Purina pet food making animals sick. This certainly is true!!! And now knew why my cats were sick for so long, Purina needs to be investigated and charges brought against them!

My cats have been eating the Cat Chow Indoor formula (in the green bag that says it will "help reduce hairballs") for years. In the last month I have noticed that they have BOTH been vomiting up their cat food. Between their wet food meals, I always have a bowl of dry cat food out. The vomit consists of nothing but the dry food!! Sometimes I will find 4-5 different spots in my house! I, like others, thought it was due to my cats eating too fast but after reading these reviews I guess I'd better switch to another brand. I don't know why this just started happening but apparently it has happened to others too.

I cannot prove that our cats died from eating Purina company cat food, but I believe it is likely the culprit. That has been the primary brand of food that we have used to feed our indoor & outdoor cats for a very long time. We have been feeding them mostly Purina Indoor Formula (those that died were indoor cats), but also some of the Friskies variety and Kit N Kaboodle too. We had four die in the last 3 1/2 months. One was elderly, but had been doing well. He died of heart failure. We presumed it was old age, of course. However, the next three were 4 1/2 mos. to 1 year. All of them died within a course of hours from the time we realized anything was wrong. At first they just seemed to sleep more. Then they very quickly became deathly ill. The second to die was 4 1/2 mos. She had congestive heart failure. Way too young for that to be a common cause. Until the day she died, she acted well. The second was a year old. She had jaundice, kidney failure and finally complete organ failure.

The vet said they thought it must be a toxin, but we searched the house for ANYTHING that she could possibly have gotten into. There just wasn't anything. They tried everything to save her, but it was hopeless. I should add we are incredibly careful not to feed them any people food that contains onion, garlic or other known cat toxins. The thought of the dry food as a possible culprit crossed my mind, but I thought things were OK with Purina... more than other brands, at least. After all we've been giving Purina to our cats since I was a kid in the 60's. Now I wish I had read these posts sooner, because we continued to feed them the usual variety of Purina foods.

The last one (about 8 mos. old) didn't last long enough to get to the vets. That was a week ago. He didn't seem that sick. He acted tired. I offered food and he wouldn't eat. From there it was very quick. Rapid breathing, stumbling, pale nose. It was late at night and we live 40 min from the nearest vet. There wasn't time. We had to try something. I tried to give him electrolyte water, got 1/3 of a dropper in him, he convulsed and immediately died. It was violent and shocking. I'm going to switch to Whiskas tonight, in the hope that it's really better. At least it's not Purina. After our experience and after reading these posts I've lost faith in Purina. If they want to have a good image, they had better find out what's going on and get the food off the shelves. Otherwise I think we better take to social media in a big way and let people know they are not interested in protecting our pets health. I don't have a receipt, because we empty our bags into sealed containers and toss the bag.

I have a cat who is healthy but regularly vomits up Purina dry food soon after eating it. I did not give it much thought until I heard others stories about their pets getting sick from Purina cat food. When I switched to Iams dry food I realize he does not vomit from eating that brand of food. He is also very fussy about which wet food he eats so I am not going to buy any more Purina cat food.

Thank you so much Purina for changing your Complete Cat Chow to "New and Improved". My cat has been so sick after attempting to keep it down. Even the feral outdoor cats are ill. I called your company. You sent me a package of the "old" version and a coupon for the new... I ran to every store in a ten-mile area buying it (old version) up. Tried to introduce the new food with the old and that was "tolerable" for a short while. Now it most definitely is not fine. Has cost me a small fortune at the vet and my cat a lot of suffering. BRING BACK THE ORIGINAL version please. As for allowing a dog to eat it (response to a post on this site) please do not do that. Can cause seizures.

We have 15+ cats indoor and out along with 5 dogs. We live in the country - our cats the 15 are indoor only ranging from 6 months to 12 years. We had always fed Purina reg. and Purina Indoor formula. We too experienced very sick cats - vomiting and diarrhea. We touched base with Purina. They said they hadn't made much of a change but sent us coupons for a free bag of food - that's it. We belonged to the Purina Pet Club because after saving so many points we got money off bags of food and we buy 22 lb bags many at a time because we live so far from town. We had to switch to the Naturals but even though they are better they still throw up and are sick. We have vets bills on several due to these issues - not to mention cleaning up, etc. We need a better food and plan to switch because we are afraid to lose any more. We did lose 1 - I guess I was more disappointed that they haven't looked into this. It isn't just as if 738 people have complained and we have lots of cats we could wage at least 20 more issues. Why hasn't something been done and whose food do we trust?

We've also feed him other brand cat foods, but Tucker has always been a fan of Purina Cat Chow. For the past month and a half, Tucker has been having diarrhea and at times has also had bloody stool. The diarrhea has increased dramatically within last two weeks. We, Tuckers family, have been racking our brains to figure out why this is or was happening. Thought we'd see if it was food 2 days ago. Changed food and searched about recent recalls or any other complaints about Purina pet food. We found the answers we were looking for, hopefully we saved Tucker in time, only time will tell.

I purchased a can of wet food and she ate it with no side effects. I now buy Meow Mix original or tasty centers SC and have no trouble with the cats. If you have this trouble please buy a different company's brand of food. It will save a lot of heartache.

I feed my cats and several strays that hang around. I always tried to save money and bought the cheaper brand foods only to have the cats vomit. I switched to Purina cat chow and all the vomiting stopped. I was very satisfied as were the cats. I bought several bags because they were on sale and with cold temps they eat more. I don't know what was done or changed to the food but the cats (inside and outside strays) have started vomiting just like with the cheap food. I am very displeased with Purina now. I am stuck with this food and will have to use it because I can't replace it. I will now have to continue picking up vomit until this food is gone then I will find another brand to feed the cats. I hope no lives are lost because of the change to the food. I am one unhappy customer.

We recently switched our three indoor cats to Purina Cat Chow, and within a week our oldest boy was dead. Maddox was a rescue, of sorts, so we never really knew his age, but he was estimated to be around 12. The other two are just over 3 years old and just over a year old, respectively. We came home one day, about 3 days after switching their food, to find Maddox dead on the bathroom floor. He had vomited a huge amount just prior. My husband was devastated, as this was his baby. The other two cats seemed fine, but the youngest didn't seem to have much of an appetite since we switched food. At first I thought maybe it was the taste, but after reading all the reviews, I feel he may have had an intuition that cannot be explained.

As I said in the subject, it could be a coincidence, but after a friend shared a link to this page on my Facebook just one day after we lost Maddox, I read the reviews, and I highly doubt it was just a coincidence. I can't help but blame myself, I feel like if I hadn't bought the Purina Cat Chow that Maddox would still be alive. I feel guilty, because had I read this page prior to the purchase, I would have never allowed it into my house. Needless to say my mother, who also purchased a bag the same day I did, said her cats don't even like it, so both bags have since been thrown away.

I sincerely hope Purina stops denying that something is wrong, and fixes whatever they've done to their formula, or sends samples to a lab to be evaluated. With so many people losing their beloved pets, I would think they would want to rectify the problem before their company name becomes more tarnished than it already is. Rest in Peace, Maddox, even if this review helps one person think twice about what they feed their fur babies, I know you have not died in vain.

I started feeding my dog Purina One Dog Food because he kept eating my roommates' dogs' food and that's what she fed them. I bought a small bag to test drive it. I noticed he would hesitate to eat and that he developed diarrhea. At first I thought it was just because his food was changed, but when the diarrhea didn't clear up within a few days I was concerned. I watched him closely and no other serious symptoms came up, but I decided not to buy that food anymore. I'm so glad I made that decision. After reading these reviews I got really lucky the food didn't kill him. Now I'm wondering about his diarrhea after having Pedigree canned food. I thought maybe it was just the wet food because he doesn't get it very often. Now I'm wondering if it was more than that. What's going on Purina? Raw meat in your canned food? Flies and maggots in your sealed cans and bags? Not cool.

My cat has been a part of my family for 13 years, she was healthy, slightly overweight but healthy. I have been feeding her Purina Cat Chow Naturals for the past year or two, because she mainly stayed in the house. Before that was just plain Cat Chow because she would go outside often and I felt her diet was healthy. My husband went to pick her up some cat food and he bought her Purina Cat Chow Indoor, I told him his mistake, but said we would just use it anyway, the store is over 15 miles away. Over about 4 days she became sick, it was hardly noticeable at first, but by day 2 she was vomiting and became extremely needy. I'm sad to say I didn't think it was serious, because she was a long-hair cat and would get hairballs. On day 4 I came downstairs and found her in her own vomit and barely breathing. I called the vet immediately and explained what I found; she couldn't move, she had shallow breathing, the vomit was almost green, and her eyes looked stressed or fear-filled.

It was a Sunday, the vet started heading our direction. Within 15 minutes after my call to him she had another spasm and vomited green bile, the spasm was so hard that her tongue came out of her mouth about 3 or 4 inches and she was gone. I don't know what was wrong with your Purina Cat Chow Indoor, but I definitely believe it attributed to her horrible death. The green bile and greenish vomit tells me that she was poisoned, and being that she has been an indoor cat for the past year, I honestly believe that something was wrong with the Indoor Cat Chow. I still have the bag, it's almost full because we only used it for about 4 days.

I used to quirk for a vet and had always felt I could trust Purina brand foods. That is until we bought a new bag of it about 1 month ago. My dog would vomit shortly after eating his food; he also had an itching problem that seemed to correlate with the vomiting. At first I thought he was sick or some of the treats we have were upsetting his stomach, so we got him checked out and it seemed it was definitely from something he ate. Then we took away his treats, but the vomiting continued. I have now had him on Iams for a week, and no vomiting. No itching. And no messes to clean up. I am not going back!

The next day all 6 cats were eating and all 6 vomited. Something is wrong with the food. Our cats are not real picky and have always been given Purina but something was clearly wrong with this food. The rest of the night, she vomited over 30 times and in the am, I found she had had two bouts of bloody diarrhea. We rushed her to the vet where after 2200 dollars and a lot of medical attention, they were able to get her on the road to recovery. Not happy when they said because it was a new bag of food and no prior problems, that it was probably due to the dog food. But since she had vomited it all out, they couldn't be 100% certain. I just hope if it was that, purina fixes their food. I'm afraid to even think of what losing her should have done to me and I'm so sorry for every other owners loss or struggles they went through.

A few days later 1 kept vomiting so off to the vets with her...got 2 injections & meds to come home with. I went to the pet store that night...figuring it was the food & went to Purina one...the 4 of them took rather well to it. Then last weekend another 1 of my cats vomiting then with blood...to the Dr we go...a day admitted...x-rays..(sent out for radiologist to view) full panel blood work..fluids..meds. Back the next morning to repeat, x-rays & tests were negative...but some low blood work & some high blood work...but no disease. At this time no clear answers. I bought a small bag of Purina Complete because Walmart was out of the original. Within a week or so, I noticed that he was vomiting and had the runs, he was listless. Then one night he started howling and trying to hide, it was horrifying. He couldn't walk. In the morning I took him to the vet, who said it didn't look good. Came to find out he had a blockage in his kidneys, caused by very high PH in his urine. After a week in the hospital and $1,200, he came home. I didn't put the food and illness together, so he started eating the same food. He ended up back at the vet again within a week, where I was told it was the food. He's been on a prescription dry food since then and is healthy now. He'll need this food from now on, but the cost is worth having my baby back. After seeing many of these posts citing different varieties of Purina food, perhaps Purina needs to figure out their issue before the lawsuits start pouring in.

My almost 17 year old cat has eaten canned Friskies all of his life with no noticeable consequences. However, there are times that he will suddenly stop eating one of his favorites & refuse to ever eat it again, especially the shredded Turkey & Cheese. I personally have never noticed a problem with anything he snubbed but that doesn't mean there's something wrong. He has also been eating the Purina One Hairball Formula for years now & doesn't seem to have adverse effects from it either although I do occasionally find him eating grass, which we all know is a sign of indigestion. He is a mostly outside cat so if anything were to make him actually vomit & probably wouldn't know about it.

My problem though is that my 9 month old puppy is a cat food stealer as the cat does come into the house to eat. There are several of the canned flavors that he refuses to touch & I am noticing that he does have occasional vomiting. When this happens it can be several times in one day. He's a very picky eater, refuses any form of dog food & mostly eats human meats & sometimes cheese. If he doesn't like what's in his bowl that's when he goes for the dry cat food. Now, after reading all these horror stories, I am truly concerned that the Purina One is the culprit & possibly some of the canned foods when he does eat them. Since the cat doesn't seem to be suffering (for now anyway) I guess I will have to put up his food when he is done to ensure the puppy doesn't get into it. If something were to happen to him as a result of their products it would totally devastate me!

Thank you to all that have posted on this site. My heart goes out to every one of you as I am truly sorry for all of your unnecessary & preventable losses. The grief here is overwhelming but I hope you know that others like myself can learn from your sharing.

Thank you everyone for alerting me to this problem. It's a shame Purina hasn't recalled their products. Always thought it was a reliable company.

I have had two young cats within the last 3 months to pass away and the vet could not determine what was going on. It started as what looked like a URI or a "bad cold" or severe allergy. Amoxi did not stop the symptoms. After a few days of these symptoms, they both lost mobility, and just laid there, not moving. Then, they passed away. I went to TWO different vets, and neither one could figure out what was wrong with them! I have fed my cats Friskies for years, because I trusted Purina. I thought maybe this was all a coincidence, but seeing these reports make me think differently!!

My two cats were given a bowl of Purina Cat Chow (Indoor). They ate almost all of it, my daughter heard a coughing sound and she saw blood coming out of (Zeke) the male's mouth. He laid down and wasn't able to walk or move. Within minutes the other cat (Ziggie) a female, started showing the same things. She threw up and couldn't move out of the vomit. She was paralyzed and died within 15 minutes. The male also died within 30 minutes. They were both in perfect health and very active before they ate. My heart and my kids' hearts are broken and we all suffered great loss and we will probably never be the same. It seems that Purina is putting hazardous products in their pet food that so many of us pet owners feed to our pets.

These products may even be harmful to the environment. What would happen if my grandson ate some? We immediately threw the bag in the trash. Evidently they (Purina) has known for quite some time that there is a huge problem with their product. They are just in business for greed and profit. We are a family that was victimized by Purina. Last night my dog started vomiting and it continued in the morning where he was throwing up yellow vomit. He seemed a little off, when we went for our daily walk. He seemed Ok when I left for work today, but now I'm in a panic because I left a bowl of cat chow out where the dog/cat could eat it. I will definitely stop feeding this product and will contact Purina for reimbursement of their food. I think Purina Cat Chow Complete should be recalled and owners should be reimbursed for the product and any related veterinary care should their animal become sick or worse case scenario if the animal dies. The symptoms sound more like worms than food. If the kittens have not been de-wormed they absolutely need to be as most kittens get worms if the mom is an outdoor cat. These worms can be passed to other cats and yes to you. I personally haven't had any problems with Purina - my cats eat Healthy Naturals and my dog is on Pro Plan puppy.

We left for the vet within minutes but it didn't matter. He died in my daughter's arms on the way to the vet. It was only after I got home and calmed down a little, I kept saying to myself, “He was fine, I just fed him. Our 7 year old, healthy male Chow always ate the Natures Formula Lamb and Rice from Menards. One day I purchased a 40 lb bag of Purina Complete Dog Food just to add a little variety to his diet. After he had consumed approximately 1/3 of the bag, he died unexpectedly 7/22/14. The Vet thought he died from either a ruptured Angioma on his Liver or Spleen. They tapped his peritoneal cavity and it was pure blood. I kept the left over food and was going to donate it to the Humane Society, but gave it to my sister instead. The food had been stored outside in a covered Metal Trash can on our deck in the original bag so it had never been wet. I have kept all of our dog food in this manner for years and have never had any issues.

My sister fed her little Terrier mix some of the food for the first time 10-31-14. Her dog began to shiver uncontrollably, was unable to stand up and ended up having a seizure. They rushed her to the Vet where they gave her IV fluids and oral Charcoal to rid her of the food. She was in bad shape and the Vet was unsure she would survive the night. She did survive and the Vet told my sister the food was tainted as that is the only cause for the dogs severe medical emergency. I now wonder if the food caused the early death of our beloved 7 year old healthy male Chow Chow. I am sick to think I possibly killed our dog and nearly killed my sisters dog by giving them Purina Complete Dog Food! I will never buy another Purina product...EVER! If you love your pets...stay away from Purina products.

After I could no longer find the "original" formula, I was forced to try the "new" Purina Cat Chow Complete ("Same Great Taste New Kibble Blend"). My cats tried it once and then they all stopped eating it, as did the raccoons who would eat the old formula if I left it out overnight. I didn't realize my Cat, Boris, was ill from the food, I just noticed he started losing weight rapidly.

I tried feeding him canned food, and then the expensive refrigerated cat food, which he would eat, but clearly was sick, and still losing weight. He died a VERY slow and painful death on August 23... It was clear he was dying, and wanted to be inside... So I let him in. He was thirsty, but sooo weak, when he went to use the litter box, he was unable to get himself out of it. He eventually died, and had red foam around his lips....my guess is that he had internally hemorrhaged, and it was blood.

I have complained to Purina... I asked if they had any department that looked into consumer complaints... I was told that they did. He wanted my contact information, and I told him about this website, and that there were 764 complaints against Purina... I also asked him if they had a Dept. that did look into consumer complaints, how come they didn't know about this website. I told him to have their department check it out! We have been feeding Friskies wet food for over 10 years for all of our cats. We also feed a HIGH quality dry food the brand Solid Gold. The last year or so my cats have increasingly had problems with losing weight, vomiting, etc. At first we chalked it up to age, as one is 17 and the other one is 15. About three months ago the vomiting got severe, one of my cats suddenly became rail thin and he was losing hair on his back legs, and we thought he was going to die. I took him to the vet and they said he had pancreatitis. They gave us some vitamins and sent us home saying he might go into renal failure soon. They also mentioned some wet foods could cause a sudden imbalance, and it could be only certain flavors.

At first we only feed the Turkey shredded cheese flavor, seemed OK at first, but then the whole cycle started again. I took them completely off the wet food. It's been about a month and a half and the cat we thought that was going to die is suddenly gained weight, and he looks fabulous for a 17 year old cat. I need to mention we could not get him to TAKE the vitamins for the renal thing, so the ONLY thing I did was remove the Friskies. I am convinced that this was the culprit in the entire episode. Buyer beware, who knows what they add to this stuff.

I called Purina and asked for a refund, not a coupon. We'll see what happens with that. I am now posting some websites on Facebook to let others know about this ongoing issue.

I bought my 2 Golden Doodles Purina Pro Plan for the first time 3 weeks ago. My oldest is 2, youngest is 1. Both very healthy never been sick. I always bought expensive food for them and decided to try this to save a couple extra dollars. My 2 year old had a full blown seizure from eating this food. We rushed her to the vet and they drew blood and couldn't find anything wrong with her. I threw out the food and all the treats that were made by Purina and will never buy another product. The fact that I choose to save money only to have an expensive vet bill makes me sick!! Never again!!!

My husband and I have been trying to find ways to help our dog, Abbey, with her allergies as she's been scratching a lot. We had been feeding her Pedigree and never had a problem with it. She absolutely loves it, but felt that we should look at a food that had the Omega Fatty Acids that would help with her skin as well. Today, we chose Purina with Lamb and Rice. What a bad choice that turned out to be.

Only an hour ago (it's just after midnight right now), she vomited her food. Of course, it was the mostly undigested Purina dog food. I have never seen her react to food in such a way before! I have now thrown out the brand new bag of dog food that only had one cup missing (as she ate it for dinner) and will NEVER BUY PURINA AGAIN. I will also be spreading the message that this food is unsafe for consumption by pet and, for that matter, probably people. This "food" was the only new thing introduced to my dog's diet and so it was easy to figure out where the problem lay.

WARNING: DO NOT BUY THIS OR ANY OTHER FOOD PRODUCT FOR YOUR PET MADE BY PURINA! The risk is not worth it! Purina does not care about your pet, only that you buy their product and line their pockets!

For the last few years I have been feeding my cats Purina's Kit & Kaboodle dry cat food. On September 5th I came home from work to find one of my outdoor cats dead in my yard. The next morning I found a second dead in my yard & the third outdoor cat was on my back porch barely alive. (A week prior my dog had seizures. Keep this in mind. A habitual cat food thief). I assumed someone was poisoning my animals. Took one cat to the shelter. They said it sounded like poisoning. Took him then to the vet who said it sounded like poisoning.

I even filed a police report! THEN my indoor cats started getting sick & dying. 3 days ago, as another cat was dying, he went to the vet. Had some shots, he was ok for a couple minutes but then died. Renal failure due to an ingested poison. I put 2+2 together & went and purchased a different brand of cat food that night. All of my other cats except 2 are sick & dying & won't touch the food. 10 dead cats in 9 days. As I type this my son is crying, holding his dying cat. The only common factor between my outdoor cats, my indoor cats & my dog is Purina Kit & Kaboodle. The dog hasn't had a seizure since, but hadn't touched the cat food after the seizures, only her own food. She also developed large spots on her coat where the fur was thinned and felt almost burnt. They seem to be getting better now that she's sticking to her own food, & the Kit & Kaboodle is no longer accessible to ANY pets.

I've long thrown out the bag as I keep their food in a dry food bin, so I don't have the lot number or whatever...But I've been calling and have yet to speak to an actual person. I will try again come morning. I WILL be having this food tested for contaminants. 10 cats in 9 days??? 7 of whom are strictly indoor cats? 3 of whom strictly outside cats?? A cat food thieving dog with seizures? More than mere coincidence! I wish I had realized it was the food sooner & hadn't continued to feed it to them for a week after the first deaths. What the hell is in that food??? Purina has crushed my family!

I'm very worried this a.m. Last night my first cat (Jesus) threw up after eating combo of dry Purina One and Salmon Pate... Late in the night the second cat spent nearly twenty mins before he could quit throwing up. Same mixture of food. This a.m. my third cat ate two bites of the salmon pate and immediately began throwing up. The first two, I didn't notice was immediately, but by the third, I was standing there. The third cat doesn't eat dry food... but he did take a few bites of the dry as it was new, and possibly smelled appetizing?

The second cat is still sickly acting... but he did drink some water out of the faucet about half hour ago. He had stayed pitifully curled up to me all night. The first one seems to have recovered.... has just eaten. Second and third are uncomfortable. I'll withdraw food all night, then begin feeding new foods. I'm terrified!!! My third cat was poisoned in 2006 or 07, but we saved his life $2400 later.

I'm just sick to think there is going to be a recall... or something is so wrong. Food delivered from Amazon... but it's not hot out to increase chance of spoilage in trucks. I'm going to have positive thoughts for now... please others let me know. Cats Cisco, Jesus and Joaquin. Joaquin seems uncomfortable and I can hear his breathing. Jesus appears much better. Cisco not eating, but no unusual breathing.

Honestly, I should have written this a long time ago. A few years ago we were feeding all four of our cats Purina One Sensitive Systems. We had stepped away from Purina in 2007 when some dry food made our cats sick, and then we heard about the melamine issue, but no Purina was recalled. We didn't trust that and went to a different brand of food, but when that other brand stopped making a sensitive stomach version, we were forced to go back to Purina One -- one of our cats has had intestinal issues for years and Sensitive Systems was the only kibble we could find that sat well with him.

So we used Purina One Sensitive Systems from 2009 to August of 2010 when we opened a new bag and all four cats immediately vomited up the food. I noticed the food had an odd appearance, darker than the kibble usually was and less smooth. We opened a different bag and that was fine. We thought just one bag had gone bad -- our grocery store seems to have some issues with storage at times -- so we bought a new bag of Purina One at a Walmart. The cats all got sick again, one of them vomiting up blood. We took him to the vet and they said it had to have been the food. We compared the production codes and realized the bags with one certain production code were bad. It didn't matter what store we went to - if they had bags from that production run, those bags had rotten food in them.

When I called the grocery store, the manager told me they had tons of complaints and had removed the cat food, and were returning it to Purina. But then in October, they quietly put the bad food back on the shelves. (We had kept buying it while looking for another sensitive stomach kibble in a different brand that our one cat could tolerate. It took about three months but we finally found one, thankfully.) Walmart told us they only had a couple of complaints and apparently didn't get much of the bad batch of food and we never saw it there again.

When I called Purina, the woman on the phone absolutely refused to do anything. She would not take my name, would not write down my complaint, would not take the production code number I tried to give her. "I won't be writing ANY of that down," she said. "Purina foods have never had any problems." She literally called me a liar and finally offered me some coupons. I didn't want coupons but if she would take my name and report what had happened, that would be great. She refused. I wrote them with a copy of the production code, but heard nothing back.

I wrote a review on a website and Purina complained in a response, then the website deleted my review. I cannot tell you what was wrong with this cat food, only that observation and the comments from a vet indicated the food was the problem, and that Purina had absolutely no interest in dealing with the situation, only in covering their hinders. I personally would not trust this company to feed my pets.

Even on cans that seem to open properly, there is often a razor sharp edge around the inside top. I have cut myself despite being careful. Rinsing the cans for recycle and later placing them in the bin has been a bloody experience. I can only hope that this defect is corrected before someone is more seriously hurt.

For one, she is excited when she hears the bag of food (like usual) as if she hasn't eaten in months but when I put the food down, she sniffs it and immediately starts to drink from her water bowl instead. With that when she does eat it I noticed the other day her licking up her throw up (that was a first). I thought maybe she had just ate too fast and ran too soon afterwards. But last night after she ate just a little bit of food, she started making gagging sounds. I then took her to my kitchen floor where it would be easier to clean up if she did throw up but I just sat there with her and watching and petting her to somewhat relax her and she was fine but did not return to eat the rest of her food even the next day. Tonight, she did the same thing so I decided to check the web to see if it was just my kitten or a reoccurring situation among others. Curious as to whether or not others had had the same issue with Purina, I went online and sure enough, there are multiple complaints about Purina suddenly making cats sick. Today, I decided to buy a case of Friskies Senior Diet cat food Chicken & Tuna Dinner in Gravy. One of our female cats named "Mitzy" came into the house to have her evening meal. We have other varieties of Friskies on hand, but I thought I'd try the new selection on her. Upon presenting her with her plate of food, she proceeded to cautiously eat the selection. Everything seemed fine, just a routine feeding session. I left the kitchen area to go back to my computer room and heard a violent thumping sound. I rushed back to the kitchen and found her having a seizure.

After recovering, she stood up and yowled with a death-curdling moan and stood transfixed, drooling and her eyes wide open, then she collapsed. Needless to say, I freaked out. All I could do is watch her heart beat at an incredible rate along with labored breathing. There was nothing we could do for my wife and I other than witness a perfectly healthy cat die. She was dead within ten minutes. Tonight, we buried her in our on-site pet cemetery. We have acreage and can do so. In our 50 some years of owning both dogs and cats, we have never witnessed such. With us in our 70s it surely makes one sense their mortality. Yikes! So much for Friskies brand cat food.

I'm taking the case back to WINCO in the AM and alerting the management to what happened and so to getting a refund. I'll then proceed to start purchasing upscale cat foods for our pets, costs be damned. We've use Friskies for years, but this was a nightmare to witness. We're not lawsuit happy folks, but by damn Purina should get their act together and start creating some truly safe organic type foods for pets at a reasonable price point. Granted this episode might be a statistical fluke, but it's surely not something any pet owner should have to suffer. One thing I noticed is the ingredients within this can takes up an entire paragraph of 'microprint'; I.E., simply too much crap both organic and chemical to create a simple can of cat food. Something with the contents was deadly to "Mitzy".

And in the case of multiple deaths with one family, I would suggest you look elsewhere than the food for the solution to your problem. Perhaps there is a cleaning product or such that they are getting access to. It's just not reasonable that every pet you have develops problems from the food. Long story short, I ran out of it and purchased a bag of Purina ONE (chicken) from a local pet shop in Tokyo. The bag said "made in America" so I figured it would be OK. My white bully immediately became lethargic after two days and she had horrible, bloody diarrhea. I thought it was a virus but stopped giving her this product. She got better after I discontinued it. Thinking it was just a fluke, I then tried giving a bowl of it to my ultra healthy black bully and he vomited it immediately after ingesting it. Frankenfood this one!

I had been feeding my cats PP dry for months. My little guy Cocoa, 1 year old, passed away this past January. Before I realized what the likely culprit was (lymes) I blamed the food. I got him as a tiny babe. When he came here he had a tick latched on his ear. I removed it but along the way, months later he changed. I thought it was just that he hadn't been neutered yet. His energy, eating and drinking were normal. It wasn't until after he died that I figured out it was Lymes.

I switched my two girls to Authority but it caused my oldest to crash energy wise so I switched them back to PP. I read many horror stories about PP creating terror in me that it would kill them. If your pet does better on another food then maybe it was an allergy or an intolerance to one or more ingredients. I spoke to an employee at a vet clinic. She fed her boxer PP and he lived to be 16. Six years past a boxer lifespan. She feeds her cats PP and they're doing well. My vet highly recommends PP.

I read somewhere that people who do these reviews are paid to bash PP. I hope to God that's not true. I'm still in a lot of pain from my boy's illness and death. It's excruciating. I've needed a lot of sound guidance with my other two cats' diet because it's not a good idea to make such decisions alone in the midst of grief.

My girls love PP. They devour it. I'm not being paid to do this review. My pain and story are very real. One thing I don't understand is people bashing companies without medical proof that it was the food. I do understand that a loss will send pet parents to Googling their brains out for answers. I'm guilty of it myself. I don't want the true stories here to be real. I wouldn't wish a loss on anyone no matter the cause. If there is anyone here whose story isn't real....STOP!! Have a heart! No pet parent who has gone through a loss and is searching for answers deserves the fear you're instilling in them.

I have used Purina products for many years and never thought it might be the cause of various problems I have encountered in recent years with my pets. Though our 2 Golden Retrievers had been raised on Eukanuba, it got to be too expensive with our suddenly limited income, so we switched them over to Purina foods, always a trusted brand. Later, in 2009, we found that our 8 yr old Golden had started developing cancerous tumors all over her body, and within a few months, she was dead.

I'm not saying Purina is the reason for that, but shortly after that, our other Golden started having seizures. The vet wasn't concerned, though, as the seizures weren't consistent enough, and said that we should just watch him. That was in 2010. Then In May 2011, he started having problems walking, tripping, having a hard time going up and down steps, not wanting to go out and play like normally. We took him to the vet and she said he had arthritis, and prescribed meds for that. About this same time, my most beloved cat started behaving oddly, hiding under the desk for several days and just not wanting to eat or move, but drinking a lot of water, and making a squeaking sound when I'd pick him up. After a couple of weeks, he bounced back and seemed fine.

But by the end of Nov, it started happening again, so I took him to the vet, thinking he might have diabetes or something that could be treated. She did tests and announced he was in severe kidney failure, with numbers off the chart, and she strongly suggested I put him down! He wasn't even 7 yet!!! That was Dec 1, 2011, one of the saddest days of my life. Then, about 2 weeks after that, we suddenly lost another cat to what appeared to be the same thing. He had also been behaving in ways not normal for him, and died a few days after this "off" behavior started. Then our Golden started getting worse. One day, in May 2012, we found that he was suddenly unable to use his hind legs. That's when we learned that it was probably DM, and he had to be put down about 3 wks after that, because he'd soon lost the use of his front legs, too.

In Feb 2013, another of our cats died suddenly, after displaying odd/off behavior, with seizures. We still didn't think that the cat food (Indoor formula) could be the culprit. Then last Sept, another of our cats had started the odd behavior of pooping wherever, instead of using the litter box, which she'd always used. When it started getting worse, I decided to switch to another cat food, thinking maybe an allergy or something, as she was almost 15. I also read about a product that might help her, so I purchased that, too. I switched over to Kit & Kaboodle, and she seemed to stop that behavior for awhile, and I relaxed. Then it started to get worse, becoming diarrhea, she started losing weight, and her fur looked awful, and then another of our cats started refusing to eat. So I switched back to the original food. The 15 yr old cat never improved, and died in April, still thinking it had had been because of her age.

The second cat was failing fast, and went from 18 lbs to about 12 lbs in a very short time, and was drinking a lot of water, too. We started doing research and reading about the problems with pet foods causing kidney problems, and the possibility of reversing the problem. So we sent for meds for her, but they came too late. She died in May. Over the past couple of days, I have noticed another of my cats has started to balk at the food. I was about to go purchase another bag today, but then decided, instead, to start making their food myself! Losing 5 cats and 2 dogs in less than 5 years seems more than coincidental to me. I thought I was feeding my babies healthy foods, but was I? If it is the foods causing these health issues, I'm surprised that the companies don't seem to care. It would seem to me that their profits will suffer because of all the deaths being attributed to them, and they would make every effort to get the food back to where it SHOULD be (even human compatible!) in order to keep the money coming in. They will be losing a lot as the word spreads with more and more pets being affected!

We have 3 dogs, two fifteen year old Jack Russels and a year old American bulldog puppy. When Rocky the American Bulldog puppy was about 9 months old in December 2013, we switched him and the other 2 dogs to Purina Healthy Morsels. The puppy had his 1 year checkup and shots on March 15, 2014. He weighed 91 lbs and was healthy. On March 30th, I purchased a new bag of Healthy Morsels from Martins Market in Cumberland, MD. Immediately my year old puppy began vomiting up all of his food and then vomiting yellow. He also had diarrhea with mucus and blood in it and had no appetite or energy and was drinking a lot. After 4 days of this I took him to the vet. He had lost 9 lbs and was very weak. He had x-rays to check for blockages and blood work, which showed high liver enzymes.

He was given 4 medications, including Pepcid and an antibiotic for intestinal disease and inflammation and put on a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice. The next day he was a little better. Finally on April 10th, he seemed better after changing to 4 Health grain free food from Tractor Supply. On April 20, ten days later, the same thing happened to my fifteen year old 20 lb Jack Russel, vomiting, diarrhea, excessive drinking, peeing himself, lethargy and trouble breathing. He almost died. He was still eating the bag of Healthy Morsels. I threw the bag of food away, put him on the same diet as the other dog and after ten days he also began to pull out of it. I will never again feed my dogs Purina dog food.

In September of 2013, I found a worm in the bottom of a 16-lb bag of Indoor Delights from Purina Friskies cat food. I had not been able to catch my female who was still a kitten herself in between litters to get her fixed and so to have any adopted out with good homes, they all had to be fixed and obviously taken care of and in process of all this thought I was giving them healthy food from trusted name, but sadly found out differently through two of them urinating blood. Because of finding a worm in the "bottom" of the bag, of course I called to report, and to my surprise was immediately sent to lawyers.

I had stopped using their food for obvious reasons for a while, but as there really aren't too many options out there for low income families and the name Nestle Purina Friskies was supposedly a trusted name, or so I thought, until I did research online after the Father cat died and they had offered me a check for $100 without vet bills. I had run into people in the pet food aisle with same issues. Rufus, the father Cat had been an outside Cat, but when I made him stay in and only eat that food without the option of grass, he stopped being able to pass his stools apparently but I noticed it too late... He died due to a blockage, that can come up in no time, huge lump in his stomach that hadn't been an issue when he could regulate himself by eating grass from the outside.

That's when Sedgwick offered me a check. I fight disabilities myself and have several other pets and had not yet been able to reply to this, as I had also wanted to do some research and find out if other people were losing their babies due to this so-called "trusted" name. What I found horrified me AND Sammy, my Angel Boy became noticeably ill. He is a light hair colored Cat and they can naturally be more sensitive to things. He was urinating blood again. He'd stopped & so had the rest of them. I researched homeopathic cures for symptoms and spoke with someone who's been in the business of Pets/Supplies/Health that I've known almost 20 yrs...

Bottom line, as it was a Friday night and I had no way to even get to an emergency vet, he died in my arms Saturday morning... I had him frozen. I want an autopsy, and I want this company to be held responsible and quit quietly killing babies. I have also found out due to things like this occurring, some larger pet supply companies will no longer be selling any products that are not American made.

I've never been one to check my dog's food before feeding it to her and we have young kids who normally feed her. I noticed the week we opened a new bag of dog food, our lab started having really bad diarrhea. She was panting really hard, very dehydrated. Her activity was normal, still enjoyed going on walks and barking at things, so I watched her for a few days. I was ready to take her to the vet and just happened to feed her one day and noticed there were webby-looking things throughout the dog food. I took a few pieces out and they looked like little larva sacs. I never saw any bugs in her food just the sacs. I put two and two together and came to the conclusion that it had to be the dog food.

I called Petco and they told me to bring the food back in and they would give me a new bag. Due to the length of time that has passed and how much she has eaten, I asked her about bringing the dog in to be checked out. She told me that I needed to change the food out and give it a couple weeks before bringing her in, that it might not be the food. I thought that was a strange answer and called my vet who told me I should bring her in immediately. Unfortunate that a pet company who should care about your pets also really didn't care all that much after all. We have stopped buying Purina and will find a different brand to feed our dog.

They examined her & she wouldn't re-create what she had done at home. They couldn't find anything for a cause.

Forward to a month ago and she started again with seizures. Took her to my vet & had a full work up but showed she was healthy with weight & blood work. Vet told me to start watching her & keep track of amt & severity if they start again. This past Friday, 4/4, was horrific!!! Seizure after seizure some as close as 5 minutes apart. I decided to stop the canned food & gave her tuna instead & have done that for the past 3 days. Well, guess what, the seizures have almost completely stopped. My poor kitty is exhausted & dazed but by Sunday night she is almost back to normal.

I am so angry & upset that a pet food company has a product out there that would be that harmful to the very pets they are trusted to feed. I think the only reason my older cat didn't get sick is because she ate very little of it. No more Fancy Feast for my cats ever!!!!!

I just recently lost my longtime friend Dolly, she was a healthy beautiful cat. She's never been sick in all of her ten years. I always fed her science diet or blue buffalo. One day I ran out a grabbed a bag of purina dry indoor cat food. 12 days later she was dead. One day I noticed she stopped running around and seemed not herself, she was just staying in the same spot all day then notice her not eating and stopped going in the litter box. She started urinating on the furniture. That's when I took her to the vet. After 800.00 worth of test she had to be put down I couldn't bear to see her this way. I am devastated. I never thought it could be the food until I heard these stories. But I definitely know now it was. I still have the food so if anyone can lead me in the right direction to find out what happen please help. Thank you.

In mid-January we purchased new bag 31.1 lbs of Purina SmartBlend 7 Plus Senior Formula. Bella Boxer had consumed this brand for 3 years and before that all dry bagged dog food from Purina1. Approximately 4 days later Bella was sick to her stomach, every 2 days, had 2 seizures. We took her to the Vet. Bella had never had seizures but did vomit once or twice every 6 months. We attributed to her delicate stomach. This situation was different. She was diagnosed with epilepsy given phenobarbital and a med for low thyroid. During this time of sickness we gave her a different bag of Purina1 regular dog food. She was recovering and getting back to her playful self after her system was getting used to the phenobarbital.

For the past 3 to 4 days, we put her on her Senior Formula Purina 1 thinking everything would be fine. Last night she had a terrible seizure which she never came out of and passed away on February 7. 2014 at approx. 7:30 pm. She was healthy up until this time. She had some arthritis issues due to her age and taking glucosamine for 2 years with no adverse affects. Did Purina change their food? Batch 17800-14934. Purchased in Pennsylvania. Not fair....she was getting better! She was part of our family. I am saving the food that I believe helped kill our dog.

I've been feeding my cats Special Diet Salmon pate by Friskies for about a year now due to 2 of my 4 have had urinary tract issues. They loved it, until last week. All 4 of my indoor cats started throwing up, and having the runs all at the same time for 3 days straight. I'd put a fresh can of their Special Diet Salmon down, and all 4 of them walked away from it. This is all I feed them, so obviously their sickness came from the cat food.

All the cans were marked use by October 2015. I believe the last 4 numbers of the lot were 8844 and 8845. I bought them by the case at Petco because this Special Diet is hard to find. I bagged the rest of them up and took them back. Petco refunded the full amount even though a few cans were missing. I bought them Tasty Treasures by Friskies and they are eating that fine. No more throwing up or having the runs. Would love to know if anyone else has had the same experience. Sorry I don't have the full lot number, just the last 4 and the sell by date.

At the end of November, my dog was sick, vomiting and would not eat. She continuously was vomiting for no apparent reason. She was listless. I brought her to a vet (not my usual as they were closed) and the only possible thing I could think of was that she had a squeaker left in her from a pet toy. In October she was seen at my regular vet since she had vomited up 3 pet squeakers. X-rays were done at that point in October and she was fine. Since October she didn't have any more toys or chance of a squeaker, yet I thought this was the only explanation. X-rays were done and there was air pockets of gas and I was referred to an animal hospital for monitoring and IV fluid rehydration. She spent the weekend in the hospital.

At this point there wasn't a diagnosis. She was monitored at our regular vet and was given antibiotics. When she finally returned home and I went to feed her, it was then I noticed black blobs in her dog food. Her food contained some type of mold or something that must have caused her illness. I called Purina and they referred me to their insurance company which refuses to cover her vet bills. The insurance rep states that since she was seen for ingestion of a squeaker, that was the only thing I thought could be wrong with her, therefore that is what the Dr was looking for. I didn't anything was wrong with her food. I am lucky she didn't die. She was very sick and it was all because of their food!!

I have two cats, one solely indoor and one indoor/outdoor. Both seem eager to eat the Purina Cat Chow Indoor Formula Dry Cat Food when I put it in their bowl but since I decided to try this brand a couple of weeks ago, indoor/outdoor kitty just vomits it right back up again so fast that some of it is still dry. He seems otherwise fine, probably because he also gets wet food every day to keep his weight up (which indoor kitty definitely doesn't need). Indoor kitty vacuums this chow up with no problem (like he does everything else) but since I can't control indoor/outdoor kitty's access to the kibble bowl, I'm going to have to throw the rest away.

They slowly stopped eating their food less and less each day until they would only eat a few bites. My cats had extreme smelly, loud gas. Immediately after eating they go straight to the litter box with explosive bowel movements. My cats have had diarrhea and trembling, with third eye showing. After a few days of improvement, I put them back on Friskies. All symptoms returned. I have taken them off again, they have been off Friskies for 5 days now. Everyday off of Friskies I see more improvement. Today, they were playing. My cats will NEVER be on Friskies again!!!

In January 2014 I began feeding my cats a new bag of a cheaper brand of Purina cat food. Cheaper by about half the price. The cat food package looked funky and had a cute drawing of a cat on the bag. Not one week into the food, I noticed a red sore on the upper lip of one of my cats where the fold is under their nose area (but on the lip). It was inflamed and I just assumed he got clawed by one of my other cats playing. I came home today and looked at my other cat and to my surprise, there is the same looking red sore lesion on his top lip in the same place! I can only attribute it to the food because nothing else has changed except for the Fresh Step cat litter. It most likely is the food I believe but have now changed the food today and will keep an eye on them to see if these red sores subside.

The past week she started becoming very ill. Took her to the vet on 1-20-14 and she was diagnosed with chronic renal failure. She had to be put down. In November she was at the vet for routine check up and blood work and was given a clean bill of health. The only thing that has changed since is the food. I want this food tested and taken off the market. Nothing will replace my baby girl. All I'm left with is a $400 vet bill and a lonely bed. She was only 3 years old. Purchased Purina Indoor Formula and Kitten Chow about 1 week, before illness ensued. Our cat had eaten Cat Chow for 98% of his 13 years. About five days into these new bags, he began shaking his head, scratching at his ears and there was some vomiting. During this time about a week prior, he had what appeared to be a head cold, sneezing and such, which is unusual for a cat. The head cold, it subsided after about four days, about 10 days total illness would have been when I first brought the bags home and opened them. Six days ago, I found him incapacitated on the bathroom floor. Due to a severe ear infection resulting from the Purina food (allergy). He is in complete physical collapse and unable to walk or hold his head up. After a two hundred dollar trip to the vet and after antibiotic treatment and feeding him wet food and chicken, he was doing fairly well, almost walking completely without balancing on the walls or me holding him.

Last evening, I had a stupid moment and I gave him a small bowl of Meow mix, also made by Purina. Waking this morning, I found him once again, completely incapacitated, head tilted, one eye sunken, complete loss of balance, only this time he is giving up the fight and refuses food and water or even to move, even after being given motion sickness medication. I do not know what Purina has done, but he has eaten it since he was a kitten and now there is something in it that is trying to kill him. I am not a paranoid person, but what was fine three months ago isn't fine anymore and there is something wrong in that. If he survives this, his menu will change and our two other pet's menu will change and it won't be commercial. I only take getting burned once. It's obvious to me that Nestle doesn't have my family/pets best interest in mind. Nestle is in Switzerland, why would they feel that Americans and their pets were of any importance?

I got Spaz in 2008. He was a very healthy fully grown 8-pound BAS cat. He ate everything and anything. One day I noticed a new product from Purina - Healthful Life. They were offering a 1-pound bag for 99 cents. Spaz loved it and soon would not eat anything else. He also began to throw up, became very lethargic, and put on weight. I was alarmed, contacted Purina, who assured me that there were absolutely no problems with any of their products, and sent me coupons for more of their cat food. Several trips to the vet and costly and thorough examinations they could find no physical explanations, but suggested switching brands, but by then Spaz it seemed like, was addicted to the Healthful Life.

Though he was hungry all the time, he continued to gain weight, and moved less and less. When Purina Healthful Life mysteriously disappeared from all and any store shelves, AND Purina's web site, Spaz had to eat something else. But the damage had been done. He developed more serious health issues, and even more trips to different vets could not get him to a good quality of life point. On March 29, 2013, he passed away in excruciating pain and grief - one day before his 12th birthday. He weighed 22 pounds (the total weight of my 3 children's birth weights).

I was happy to find Purina Naturals cat food, because unlike most cat food, it doesn't have animal by-products (though, unfortunately, the corn and soy is very likely GMO). The 2 cats have eaten it happily for a couple of years now. About a month or so ago, when I opened a new bag, something changed: Though always eager for a meal, they didn't scarf it down as usual. Grey sniffed at it, and went away without eating any. I poured some milk on, as a treat, and later she did eat it. Then I found the vomit. Since then, sometimes the food is eaten, sometimes just partially, sometimes not at all, but the cats eat everything else given to them. Every few days I find vomit in the yard... It is yellow and mostly undigested cat food, as the pieces still retain their shape.

Finally facing that the cat food is the culprit, I found this site and am amazed at the volume of similar complaints. I spoke to someone at Purina about my cats and their recent batches, and he claimed nothing has changed, and no one else had complained of this. He stuck to this pose even after I told him about finding this site. He offered coupons and a postage-paid box so I could send a sample back to him. I will do this, and also keep a sample for myself, in case it is feasible to have it analyzed. But by who? I imagine it's costly to have studies made, but it would be interesting to find out: what is this stuff?

There is a current class action suit against Purina for their Waggin' Train dog treat people say caused injury and death. People whose pets died or who had huge medical bills from eating their other products can bring similar suits. This issue needs to get wider exposure online and in the news. Purina won't change their policies unless they lose sales or/and are shamed into it. I've found non-GMO Wellness cat food, but it's 120 miles away and $3.33/lb. Well, there's always home cooking... Grandma cooked a meal for her huge cat Tommy every night!

With the problems listed here on this page, I have to wonder if it's the warehouses where the food is kept for the stores where these people have purchased their food. We were told he could have gotten them from a flea. We were told any number of things to try and explain why he would have a monthly ongoing issue with tapeworm. Shortly after adopting our dog 6 months ago, we noticed she also was starting to have the same issue with tapeworm. We thought she got into the cat box, or ate a gecko. Tried the same thing with the meds. Same result. Tapeworms kept coming back. No one suggested a change in diet.

I had always trusted the Purina brand and don't know what has happened to their pet food. But since my husband decided to change our pets' diet nearly 2 months ago, neither has had any further issues with tape worm - no meds, no vet visits, just changing their food brand. We have no other explanation than their food was contaminated from the manufacturer. Needless to say we will no longer be supporting the Purina line of dog food.

She has been experiencing nausea, vomiting and even after stopping that food seems to be lethargic and not herself. She doesn't have a fever and her stool is ok now, but she is not herself. I wish I knew what was wrong with the food but I suspect it was contaminated. If I could find somewhere to get it tested I would, but not sure where that would be. I hope there has not been permanent damage.

As I have reviewed more and more ingredients in the dog foods it is very scary. I am looking at a few other natural logic foods to help her recover...Frankly I think once she had such a bad experience with kibble she doesn't want it anymore. I can completely understand. Does anyone know where this could be independently tested for toxins? Stay clear of Purina! They just don't care. I also heard that some of the cautions with Del Monte snacks are a problem too because of ingredients from China. Just don't know what to feed my dog anymore... I feel like it is safer to feed her people food with supplements!

I too used to buy Purina for my dog and cat. Then I did some research on pet foods, which lead me to switch to Taste of the Wild. It may cost a little bit more, but it's cheaper to keep your animals healthy with a good quality food rather than waste money on vet bills or to feel the sorrow of losing a much loved pet. Grocery store pet foods have lots of bad fillers and grains in them, which will leave your animals lacking in the healthy nutrients they need. Google search "top 10 best dog/cat foods" to find the best pet foods for your pets. Hope I was able to help someone with the information I proved :)

I had two cats that had to be put to sleep because of liver damage last week. They went from being healthy happy cats, to very sick, unable to eat or drink, and ending up with bloody stools. That is when I knew there was a real problem. I have another cat now that has also become gravely ill and will soon lose her battle to liver damage as well. After speaking with the veterinarian, it is our belief that the liver damage that killed two of my cats and will soon take the life of a third was caused by the Friskies Cat food I fed them. It sickens me to think that a company like Purina would put out a food for our pets that would be any less quality than that they would serve their own families. I am thankful I found out what has caused the sickness of my pets, and I refuse to lose another one or knowingly allow anyone else to either, by feeding them poison disguised as food. I was going to register a formal complaint, but was not sure what the proper organization to do this would be, so I am anxious to hear back from someone with some suggestions on what I need to do from here to make a stand in honor of the pets I loved and lost.

I've been buying my cats Purina cat food for 40 years. Two (2) weeks ago, my cats started neglecting their dry food (Purina Naturals). I thought it was because they were spoiled and wanted treats... not the case! I was practically forcing them to eat until I started to find throw up in their food dish and they would try to cover up their food dishes as if it were their cat litter??!! Then someone brought to my attention about a news story they heard on Fox News (10/24/2013) about dogs and cats being poisoned with tainted food.

I went to the Purina site and left them an e-mail which has not been replied to as of yet. One part of the UPC # matched the two (2) 6.3lb bags of Purina Cat Chow Naturals I had recently purchased at Walmart. Hopefully, whatever is going on with the cat food hasn't affected the health of my cats. Needless to say, I tried a different cat food... at least they aren't covering it up... yet?

I had been feeding my dogs Earthborn dog food with great results, but it got to be too expensive so I had to switch them. I decided to try Purina One Lamb & Rice, and my dogs love it. But one of my dogs has had 2 urinary tract infections since I switched their food, and my vet recommended that they change her food back. Also, I had been feeding my 6-month old kitten Purina kitten chow, but the last bag I bought smelled completely spoiled. It smelled as though the meat and fish that they put in the food was rotten. Needless to say, I trashed it and switched my cat’s food. Even though I have been feeding my adult cats Purina One Salmon & Tuna dry food and I haven't had any problems, I have serious doubts about feeding my dogs & cats any kind of Purina food, especially after reading the comments here. And I will be switching their food immediately.

My cats are 4 yrs old and I have been feeding them some version of Purina foods for the last 4 yrs. This year I switched to the Purina Naturals and then to the Purina smart blend - for sensitive digestion (the one in the shiny bag). My cats who vomited occasionally - hair ball and eating too fast, began vomiting more frequently. So I switched to the hairball formula. My cats have gone into kidney failure, one so sick that her numbers were off the charts and required a transfusion, IV and antibiotics. She was in the hospital for 5 days.

I have her home, she is recovering somewhat but her brother is now exhibiting the same symptoms. I don't understand what is going on with the food - the vet said that they have an e-coli infection. My cats don't eat raw meat - and they are not kittens so I don't understand how they could get it except from the food. If your cats are vomiting - please please take them to the vet, don't just assume it was a hairball. It has been very expensive and it will be with the Grace of God that my cats will survive this ordeal.

2 years ago I fed both my cats Purina One Urinary Tract Health Formula and had for at least 5 years with no issue. Suddenly, the smaller of the two jumps up out of the blue, begins vomiting and loses the use of her back legs. The vet attributed it to a blood clot and Nellie was gone within a few hours. Flash forward to August 2013, Purina changed the bag for their Cat Food products. I see a change in Genius' eating habits. He is drinking ten times more than normal, not pooping normally. Purina's response is there was no formula change, just the bag. Sent me a few coupons for more of the same.

As the weeks went on Genius (he is a 10 yr old Manx) completely stopped eating, drinking and pooping. I replaced the Purina One food with wet cans to increase his moisture and added moist chews for now. He is finally starting to get back to his normal self but has certainly slowed way down. Purina should be forbidden from selling any more of this food until this is thoroughly checked out by an OUTSIDE source!

I have been feeding Purina over 18 years. When they first came out with Pro Plan, I was astonished at how fabulous the food was, and was very happy with the results. Recently they began making offshoots of the Pro Plan, Sporting and blah...blah...blah. I was becoming irritated and disillusioned that they were simply trying to increase revenue - I saw no real value in the different options. Then I got mad. I have bought 8 large bags since January 1, 2013 that have been full of worms, two with moths included and one with an awful spider type webbing all through my food! I am a Purina Pro Club Member.

The last 4 times I spoke with the company and gave them information from the food bags, they gave me coupons to replace the bags. I have gone to different pet food stores and today returned my LAST bag. I am sickened that they haven't followed up on this. After finding this site, I'm even more upset to know it isn't even a regional thing. My dogs have always done well on this food. I have been blessed - but I will not put them in any jeopardy and I can not keep wasting my valuable time calling in and going back to replace food bags when nothing seems to be done. It is intolerable. I hate doing this after such a very long time. At least my dogs did not get sick, although that could be why my younger ones had spirochetes/loose stool.

I have two cats that I got while stationed overseas. I started them as kitten on Science Diet. It was okay but they got sick of it. So I started grilling the doctors at the vet clinic I worked for about what I should look for in cat food. I was told that the first 5 ingredients make up the bulk of the food and that anything with the word 'meal' in it such a chicken mean or something, should be avoided as that's all the leftover crap and can contain almost anything that you wouldn't normally eat. So like a crazy person I started reading the ingredients on pet food bags. Purina ONE was my first choice and the cats like it, but upon moving back to the states I decided to try something that was a little more natural.

Blue Buffalo just wasn't in my budget and after reading their reviews, and a complaints from a friend, I can safely say it's not going to happen. Purina ONE Beyond was my next option apart from making my own food. I haven't had a single problem with it and I've been using if for over a year now. I will say that any other Purina food besides their ONE line is absolute junk and I would never feed it to my cats unless I absolutely had to. They would get my food first though.

She became dehydrated and could not even get up. I know it was the food because she will eat before I go to bed and she sleeps next to my bed all night. I had to feed her ice chips to keep her hydrated. Started to slowly feed her by hand two days later (not the Purina) until she was able to get some strength back and recover. Please beware!!! Recently (beginning of July 2013) I purchased Purina Indoor Cat Chow for my 15 year old cat. Previously I used Friskies dry cat food as well as Nine Lives wet canned. She had hyperthyroidism and was eating anything in sight and drinking lots of water but losing weight. The litter box was always full. Because she started vomiting hairballs I switched to the Purina Indoor cat Chow to see if this would help. About a week later she refused to eat or drink and it went downhill from there. She became seriously dehydrated and I took her to the vet who administered a blood test, xrays, ultrasound which showed absolutely nothing and we began IV fluids, and the vet gave her an antibiotic that was good for two weeks. We did this from Tues to Sunday giving her RX food by syringe and at home subcutaneous fluids. She was never a cat that liked to be handled and the more we treated her the more stressed out she became. Nothing was working. She was so weak but still tried to go in the litter box.

Well to make a long story short she passed away at home Monday night. The vet could not tell us what was wrong except she had arthritis and maybe some hyperthyroidism which if she made it we were going to treat with meds. I suspect that it was the food. She passed Aug 6th. I have a Black Lab who is a picky eater but has always for some reason liked eating the cat's dry food, as well as Pedigree wet food. He has had diarrhea for over a week so I took him to a new vet. He had a stool sample, blood test and urine analysis. The vet ruled out kidney and liver disease, worms, diabetes and said that it was either something major like cancer but would need a xray or ultrasound to make a further investigation or it was just an old dog with some gastrointestinal issues and was not able to handle the changing diet. He gave me some metrinazole and some RX w/p pet food that was supposed to make his stool solid again. If this did not work we were then going to do the xrays.

Well he has always been a very, very picky eater and he refused the Rx vet food so I mixed it with ground beef. It worked but the second bowel movement is still formed but soft. After reading about all the pet food recalls (Iams, Eukanuba, Diamond pet food, Milo's jerky, and now Purina brands, I decided I will make him his own food with beef or chicken with rice and even some veggies - carrots, potatoes, peas). He is looking and acting better, but still has soft stool without the Rx w/p food.

I am educating myself about the pet food industry and all the garbage they include in them like the red and yellow dyes that can lead to brain cancer, the fillers they use that are nutritionally useless. Also how the animal feed agencies and the Pet Food Institute (trade group that represents manufacturers) have blocked the FDA from making them define terms used in labeling and industry standards. These two words (definitions and standards) has delayed gov from issuing regulations on pet food. Shameful!!!

I bought a new bag of Purina DM at my vet's office on 8/12 and opened and fed to my diabetic cat that night. On 8/15 I took him to the vet because he had been throwing up since 8/13 and had stopped wanting to eat on 8/14. It took two weeks to get him better, hand feeding him bits of food (not Purina DM because he refused to eat it). Eventually he started to get better and started to eat the Purina DM again when I'd put it out. But, he got sick again and has been throwing up over the past two days (since he started eating some of the Purina DM again). I don't know for a fact that it's that food that is the issue, but the vet wasn't able to figure out a reason for him to have gotten sick and stopped eating other than he's old and maybe something else is wrong with him we don't know of (after two rounds of blood work and several tests).

I've taken the Purina away again and am feeding him some regular cat food from the grocery store and will see if the vomiting stops. Unfortunately, he has now gone back to not wanting to eat, which is quite dangerous for him, especially since diabetic. I'd like to know if anyone has any information about Purina DM causing any problems. I did notice that in the bag I purchased from the vet on 8/12, there are a few bits of food that are much darker than the other bits of food. I noticed it because when placing in a bowl I thought there was a rock in it, but it was just a bit of food that was much darker in color than the rest. I've noticed that when I pour out a good amount into a bowl that there are darker pieces (and I've been feeding him this food for over a year and never noticed that before).

I just hope he gets better, and to be safest will not feed him any more of this food unless I know it isn't the food that is causing the issue. He is VERY picky about what he eats and doesn't eat bugs or any human food, so I know it isn't that he's been eating something I don't know about that's making him sick. It seems extremely coincidental that he got sick after starting this new bag of food, that he got better after not eating if for a couple weeks, then got sick again after starting to eat it again. If he isn't better in the next day or two after not having eaten any of the Purina DM, I will take him in to the vet for more in-depth testing. I will also ask my vet to see if there have been other instances like mine that he is aware of.

Like I said before, I've fed him Purina DM for over a year and he lost weight like intended and seemed to be doing well on it. I would have recommended this brand to anyone who asked about what to feed their diabetic cat, until this instance with him getting sick. Unless I know it is not the food that got him sick (or unless I know Purina is aware and doing something about it), I will be leery of giving him this brand food again.
