What are we to do? Maybe products should be required to be labeled if ANY portion came from outside the country and name the country. I have used Purina because during the initial pet food scare years ago, Purina was not on the list of recalls. So I have exclusively been feeding my dogs and cats Purina products, Little Bites and any Purina cat food. I just switched the cat from Meow Mix to Purina Indoor cat food. She doesn't want to eat this food, maybe for a reason. Starting about a month ago, my dogs started refusing the Little Bites dog food. It will sit in their bowls until they are starving. Something has changed for the worse with this company. I will stop this food, but what next? Will start googling for a better quality product that is not on a recall list. Thank goodness for recall lists.

My husband bought One SmartBlend puppy formula a few days ago by accident for our 10 year old Cattle Dog. We fed him that and later that day, our dog became lethargic, and that night he threw up and had diarrhea. The throwing up and a red-brown diarrhea continued for the next several days until yesterday I realized that it may be related to his food. The other One SmartBlends for adult dogs were not giving him trouble, but it seems that this one may have chemicals or something in it. The serial number on the bag is 53096001 0008L02 and it says on the bag that it was manufactured in St. Louis, MO. We live and bought the dog food in Pittsburgh, PA.

I have been purchasing Purina products for some time now and it seemed that my cats and dog was always getting sick, vomiting and severe diarrhea on many occasions and I couldn't understand why. Just today, February 4, 2016, I was awaken in the middle of the night with one of my cats vomiting again. I thought it was just another hairball, but no hair was found after I fed my animals with this product. After I got up the next morning, after feeding a bowl full of Kitten Chow, I found 5 and a half piles of vomit, with a milky brown substance mixed within.

They are house cats and I figured it out, finally, it was the food after I quickly googled the possibilities. I found out and narrowed it down to the above-stated food. I googled the Purina Company and I found out through lawsuits, veterinarian blogs and other blogs, that this company's animal food was contaminated with chemicals not fit for human food or animal consumption!! I am appalled by it. After many calls to the store where I purchased it and the Purina Company, which lead me to an answering machine and numerous runarounds, just blowing me off... I will NEVER purchase another Purina product again in my ENTIRE life, NEVER!!! I'm searching for an Attorney at the moment!!! Pissed in OHIO!!!

After 15 minutes I was able to raise him and he could hardly walk. This dog is very years old, 55 pounds, a golden and chow mix. At 2 weeks old, my cat, now 6, was found abandoned and given to me, a volunteer animal foster, to be her surrogate mother. Needless to say, we bonded, and I chose to adopt her. I try to give her the best that I can, and Purina was the brand of choice for the organization that I adopted her from, so that is what I fed her. She had some problems with vomiting, however, so I switched her to the new Gentle Formula. At first she seemed better, but then she began vomiting immediately after eating. After this happened a few times, she began turning down food, even treats, so I knew that it was time to take her to the vet. It was discovered that she was so constipated that she had a blockage in her intestines, and the muscles in the intestinal walls were not functioning properly. After some fluids and medication, she got better, and I didn't change her food.

However, she continued to have relapses, which I would quickly treat with the medicine the vet gave to me. I began to wonder if there might be a dietary solution, something that would prevent the blockages, and that's when I began to suspect that the food might be what was causing her problems in the first place. I have read several complaints on this board about cats having the same reaction to Purina Gentle Formula. It causes hard, large stools that are nearly impossible for the cat to pass, creating an intestinal blockage and leading to vomiting because the cat simply has no room in her body for anything else.

I am lucky that Saya lived through her ordeal, and I will never feed her or any other pet Purina again. I hope that, with that "food" taken away, Saya will make a full recovery and not need medications anymore. She is such a lively, sweet, playful young cat, when she is not sick. It is not right for her or any animal to have to suffer due to this company's irresponsibility.

I am having multiple cats that are getting sick. We have over 20 cats. Most stay inside our home, some at totally outside cats. Our inside cats are suddenly getting sick. Vomiting and diarrhea. I am trying to figure this out and fast. Within the last week, I am seeing at least 10 of these cats getting sick. We have only ever had one of our females (orange tabby) to ever throw up. Occasionally there has been a few that might would throw up a hair ball. This is horrible. Very forceful vomiting & the diarrhea is very watery. The vomit is thin and brown. It almost looks like the diarrhea. After about 5 more have started this, I know this is very serious.

The only food in common that all eat would be the Purina One Dry (Salmon & Tuna flavor). They are given wet food at night but that is also the Purina Cup food. Not all the cats eat that. I am seeing them throwing up soon after they eat the dry food or about 30 to 45 min after eating the dry food. It is a horrible smell with the diarrhea & very watery, brown in color mixed with some reddish color which I am afraid may be blood. Since this actually started about two weeks ago, it is not from the same bag. It was purchased from the same store, Walmart in Emporia, VA. They go through well over $100 in food per week. The bowls are clean. We use throw away bowls for all wet food.

I am seeing my healthy cats throwing up & it is horrible!! Is the problem the food or could have this food been exposed to something at the Walmart? The bags appear to be sealed but it would be easy for that to not be the case. I still have the empty bags, but I need answers quick! I am especially worried about the smaller cats. They would have to be dehydrated with both the vomiting and the diarrhea? Do you have any recalls on any cat food? Has any other sudden problems been reported to Purina? I am scared that we are going to lose some of our kitties. All are over the age of 2 years old.

My 2 cats suffered severely from eating Purina's Friskies Dry Food "Indoor Sensations". They are big dry food eaters. They ate a newly opened bag and became violently ill including vomiting blood, being in pain and becoming "lifeless". Unfortunately this is not the first time this has happened to them after eating Friskies dry food but it was the WORST episode and I was able to pinpoint the cause this time. Whatever was in the Friskies was very poisonous. Luckily they are both part Maine Coon cats and are very large and healthy... I think that is what saved them from death. I will NEVER buy a Purina product again and recommend anyone to stay away from Purina pet foods. Even though my cats suffered 10-15 hours of agony, they were fortunate to pull through... Unlike many of the stories about deaths of pets that have ingested Purina products on the internet.

I had a dog who started having seizures and quickly lost him. Not a month later another one of my dogs started having seizures, I started looking for causes then a third best friend started seizing. I did nothing more than change dog food and this dog recovered and lived two years more to the age of seventeen, having done nothing but change food. I contacted Purina and was hung up on, rudely talked to and treated badly in general. I no longer will feed Purina products to my dogs, and Nestle owns them now so I wonder what they are feeding humans. Avoid this foul company.

I have gone to independently owned pet stores and asked question. I look for samples to see if it's something my dog would like. I found there is no regulations on dog food. The advice is follow your instinct, as long as dog is healthy, go with what you can afford. Do not buy into the gluten free, natural, high price dog food.

Purina puts a lot of color dyes and other nasty chemicals in most of their food. These are very harmful to your pets. And Beneful causes a lot of dogs to have diarrhea due to the color dyes in the product. If you have to buy Purina, buy their One or Pro Plan products which are better than their other products because they don't contain as many harmful chemicals.

Was on there just right by Purina fb page. I was posting how one of their foods made my dog ill and was arguing about the items they put in their food, they proceeded to block me from writing any more post and deleted all my comments. The corn isn't digestible or very nutritional which is why more reputable companies put in peas or spinach or other vegetable that have more than double the amount of protein and fiber.

The fact that they don't have any pure flesh in their dog food, just by-products is cause for concern. Certain by products like lung and liver are fine but they don't list chicken-liver so it can be anything from spleen, brain, neck, back, the feet, etc. Legally they can put diseased cows in their food which is why I think could be a factor to a lot of deaths linked to their food. If I could give them a 0 I would. Awful company, they just put the cheapest ingredients, spend all their money on advertisement. They could care less bout your dogs or cats.

When you buy this stuff, you are giving your cat more water and less meat. They also eat Meow Mix dry cat food. They like the food and I appreciate the recent change from the paper bag that was difficult to open, to the plastic bag that was easy to open.

Again, our cats do not like 9Lives dry food as much as Meow Mix or Friskies. When it is all over and the remains of the cat food leaves the cat, Arm & Hammer recently bought Feline Pine Cat Litter from Nature's Earth Products. If you have anyone in the house with asthma, you should not use any clay litter because the dust is so irritating. Feline Pine has no dust, doesn't track, controls odor naturally, and contains no pine oils. In addition to that, it is made from waste sawdust from furniture manufacturers. During a recent trip to PetSmart, I was not able to find our regular brand of cat food and even though we didn’t need cat food I have one cat that eats only dry and we started to run low. She normally has hairballs AND is indoors. When shopping around for other items I stumbled into an area where a few bags of our regular brand was being (away from the aisle of cat food) and bunch of Purina Cat Chow bags. When asking the store employee if the bag of Purina would be better or the kind we usually used, he suggested the Cat Chow. We opened it and stored it in an airtight container, mixed it into their other cat food to change it slowly. My other cat that has digestive sensitivity, usually eats only wet food, attempted to eat the dry food two days ago.

Usually my teenage boys feed at night so I haven't inspected the dry food as it's put out, however I became aware of the problem with the food when my digestive sensitive cat puked near my bed two days in a row. This morning there was several dry food pieces in the dish with both worms and grain eating bugs. I almost puked seeing the creatures scamper about. I then inspected the air tight container to my surprise there was an infestation. PLEASE DON'T USE THIS FOOD. We have only had it a few weeks, and now I understand why the food was kept separate from the aisle shelves.

After 2 weeks at Auburn, they diagnosed her with encephalitis. She ended up staying there for 2 months and I spent almost $10,000.00 in vet bills. She came home but had to take a seizure medicine 2x a day and steroids. She lived for 3 more years and I ended up having to have her put to sleep from a seizure that left her deaf and blind. I chose my pets, they don't chose me. And when they become ill, it breaks my heart to see them suffer in any way. However in 2010, I was financially able to provide Nadia with the care she needed. Now I'm not able to do the same for Tucker, my new dog. And if I had known in 2010, when my little girl became ill that the dog food was the reason, I would have pursued it further. Vomiting, bloody diarrhea, lethargic, drooling bile, breathing problems and uncontrolled shaking! Everyone that works for that company and knows they're killing innocent beautiful babies should have to suffer the same. Not to mention what his family has had to endure watching him suffer!

I fed my 4 dogs the treats and two hours later they threw up the treats and white foam. After having the treats, they would go lie down and they normally don't do that. They started dry heaving and gagging. A couple days later since their condition did not improve and actually worsened, I called Purina to file a complaint and asked for reimbursement of my expenses due to this product, which includes a vet visit and antibiotics. Their eyes were watery and swollen shut. The vet found that they have a bacterial infection due to the treats.

He prescribed cephalexin 500mg. 1000mg for Moe, Black Lab and a 1000mg for Sasha, German Shepherd every 12 hours. Both are service dogs. For Charlie, Jack Russell Terrier 250mg every 12 hours for 7 days. The vet gave it to Charlie immediately because his skin was starting to fall off. His skin was pink in areas throughout his body and also his eyes turned red. He is also the one that I gave the most treats. Max, Charlie's brother, a Chihuahua mix dog is also on the same antibiotic and same dose as Charlie.

It may seem like a head cold but if your pets experience any of these symptoms, take them to the vet immediately as it will save their life. I normally buy chicken treats by USA brand, which are made in the USA and never had a problem. If as humans, you have had allergies and been sick to your stomach, then imagine what my dogs felt like and they can't communicate. Beware of Purina Waggin Train products that are made in China. This is poison for any dog and it can lead to death. Sedjwick at Purina is the person who took my complaint and is investigating.

I have fed 2 dog Purina ONE dog food for a number of years. Luckily they were on Kirkland high fiber during the recall of Beneful last year so we missed that. However we tried a bag of Purina pure blends natural instinct and are in the midst of horrific consequences from that choice. It started with spot on symptoms of acid reflux in my littler of the 2 dogs. This lasted about 12 hours and he now seem to be fine as frog's hair. My other dog had no issues until this morning. While out she had explosive voids out of both of her ends. While cleaning that up she had bloody diarrhea and has had to pass that about once an hour for the last couple hours. The food has been the only change in her activities and diet. I feel so bad, because she is hurting right now. My wife and I try our best to give both of our dogs a good life. We put them on the Purina One blends thinking this was a good product for them.

After reading some of these reviews and having our own experience we now know otherwise. I know that to some they are just dogs, but like many others our dogs are an integral part of our family. I took it a step further and continued to read horror story after another on many major brands of kibble. We are currently feeding a chicken and rice diet for the next couple days, but will never buy another Purina product again. There seems to be little point in contacting the manufacturer as the response is scripted and I sure do not want a coupon or replacement of the product. How sad that animal food manufacturers have such low empathy towards animals.

We have a 7 yr old Chiweenie who we've fed Purina One for as long as I can remember. 2 weeks ago she started getting ill, loose stool lethargic, won't eat/drink some days or will drink a lot, flinches when we'd touch her belly, very loud gurgling noises from her belly and terrible gas. 2 weeks ago we also bought a new bag of Purina One 3 in 1 SmartBlend Healthy Weight Formula. Today I took her to the vet because she wasn't getting better. Vet did a blood panel and fecal test. Blood panel showed she was a bit dehydrated and then her fecal matter was black and tarry. She's now on antibiotics, probiotics, prescription dog food and one other medicine.

I just remembered the recall on their Beneful brand and looked it up... Very similar problems with our pup, so I am just going by other accounts of animals getting ill and their symptoms but it seems clear to me that my dog's illness is related to the dog food. Too many similarities to not think so. Now I'm on the search for a better brand. We will no longer buy Purina.

I have a 6 year old adopted black lab. After eating Purina for 6 months he began throwing up. Just random events but always after eating. I changed everything and thought he had gotten into something but it was only after eating a bag that had been purchased in July 2015. He had also began to drink endlessly as well as scratch a ton!

About two weeks ago, I switched my dog to Wellness after reading reviews on here and thought that it couldn't hurt. (I had also read that they MAY have changed their formula around this time but that was my unprofessional detective work.) He has not thrown up since then. I have also noticed him come back to us in a sense. He is not as thirsty (he is satisfied with a normal amount of water) and his energy level has sky rocketed! I forgot how silly he was since he hadn't been feeling well! I won't go back to Purina. I suggest that you as a customer questioning this food, try another and see if changes occur then you'll have your answer.

I have 2 cats who I've feed Purina for over a year now. I was feeding them the indoor complete but, last time I went to PetSmart they didn't have it so I ended up with the naturals kind with added nutrition and minerals. I actually didn't even consider the food as being a culprit until approximately 2 days ago when my 2 year old cat started throwing up. I was actually talking to a friend who was telling me about her dog having really bad poisoning from her food and how she had to nurse her back to health forcing water down and feeding her by hand piece by piece, but she said that it was all from the dog food a Purina brand - that's actually one of the first time questions she asked me is what kind of food I was feeding them while continuing to tell me how bad Purina was as I told her it was also Purina. She advised me to take the food away.

At the time I didn't really believe it was the cat food so I proceeded to look it up and then that's where I also ended up here amongst some others and started reading other people's experiences and how their pet were all dying. This is what stuck out most to me because at the beginning of the month which was a couple days after I had got the new food for them, the first day the younger one threw up but I didn't think much about it because he's super active and on occasion will vomit which I just associated with his activity and stuff. But the 2nd I noticed my older cat was looking thinner and as it just so happens that night I witnessed him leave the litter box in a very weird position - his back legs were folded up kind like a frog but super close to him and up higher so that his butt was actually hitting the ground and he was almost bouncing across the floor.

As he passed me I noticed a black looking thing still in his butt so I immediately caught up to him. After finding some rubber gloves to see if there was something there, needless to say I saw nothing. After that night he was chasing lasers eating drinking all normal. I saw him urinate but didn't try to go further that night. He just came and lay by me. The next day he didn't do anything but sleep by me. I tried to get him to eat - no interest but would lick his lips. At that point he was still barely drinking water. Come later that night he started to throw up a brown liquid and then had got up to use the bathroom so I followed him to see if he was going to go but he couldn't. He tried to push and nothing then he started to whine and looked to be in pain then proceeded to just come and sleep on me, more than through the night he was looking dehydrated.

I knew he wasn't passing anything then now he wasn't eating, drinking and playing so I ended up at the animal clinic that night with him. They ended up doing an x-ray and found what as a coil shell shape thing. He showed it to me and we came to the conclusion it was probably a rubber band so they gave him some iv fluids that night and wanted him back the next day. I didn't bring him back that day because I knew he hadn't passed it, as well as now he was drinking water and eating on his own a bit. Then the next day I brought him back in. They did another x-ray and couldn't find the object that time, so being that we knew it hadn't passed and he's not eating or drinking they ended up admitting him in to the hospital that night so he could get iv fluids and then they were going to run barium through him to help the x-rays show anything or find any blockage.

Well needless to say the barium went all the way through and they didn't find anything nor did he pass it. They called me early the next morning to come get him because he was not eating there and seemed really scared but they said the next thing that they would do is try blood work in a couple days to see if they could find something out. Actually since after spending 1000.00 they didn't help any. I actually think he was better before taking him in there. They gave me some wet food by iv to try and help with his digestive system and to get him eating again. My next option from them was blood work starting at like $450, in a week for follow up. I didn't have the money to pay for that after the thousand they already took to basically help none.

He ended up passing something and had white hard stool along with it. He was still just whining in pain though and loud which is weird because he's a silent cat pretty much. He slept by me that night, the next day I had him eating the wet food but still not drinking so I poked a hole in a water bottle lid and was squirting water down his throat but at a rate he was drinking it on his own. I did that a couple days then the 3rd day, I had him eating and drinking all on his. He did it in small amounts but it came time to go to the follow up and I decided not to take him in at that point since I knew he passed the object and was finally starting to do stuff on his own. I didn't want to reverse it, bringing him back and told them if shows any signs of needing help.

He was okay the next couple days then he was back to not doing anything, wouldn't leave my side, always wanting to lie down so a few days in to that I started trying to find ways for crowd funding or help to make a payment to the vet so I could bring him in with no luck so I was keeping him alive best I could. I had bought some canned Friskies and treats to see if that would help. He ate some. I ended up still giving him water through a baby nose cleaner suction ball thing. It worked out well and my other cat was licking the gravy off of the can food but eating the wet food and he threw up again but it looked to be just the dry food. By this point though my older cat was becoming really frail losing weight, his eyes, ears and gums were growing pale and seeming to be anemic. I actually was giving him some honey to keep him from possible hypoglycemia.

At that point I really didn't know what to do. I couldn't afford to get my cat the testing needed and knew he was close to dying. After trying for days I was finally able to get some help from family to get him seen. About 10 minutes after that my younger cat threw up again. So that brings me back to the beginning of how the food idea was brought to my attention which was yesterday. I ended up bringing them both in last night. They finally did a blood screen and urine. They admitted my older cat with renal failure having super high protein levels and a red blood count of 17% 3.9 and anemic. They checked over my younger cat but didn't do any further testing then flv but left his case open to watch him because he's having eye and nose drainage some too. Right now my cat is on a 48 hour watch being hospitalized monitored and getting fluids.

Latest update I had his red blood cell count was at 15% and he was on the verge of needing a blood transfusion. They did have some good news that his anemia is regenerative and they were waiting to see if he was going to try and make them on his own - to not need the transfusion. He's supposed to get an ultrasound on Monday if needed to make sure there's not something further if the fluids aren't helping and possibly getting him some other medicine.

But as the last kicker I got home and my younger cat then passed blood in his stool so I immediately called them back and they told me that I need to get him in for blood work to make sure there's not something further wrong with him like possible kidney issues. So now I'm trying to get him seen today too to make sure he's not going to die. After again I had to pay 750 dollars last night as down payment and for vet services but now I get to go pay another 200+ for blood work and go from there. Someone needs to start some kind of way to serve them justice for their neglecting lives of our loved ones and well being of our animals as well humanity.

Last Friday I bought a bag on Purina Gentle Cat food. Within a few hours of feeding, all of my cats began vomiting (I have 15 rescues at the moment), and within a few hours after that, many had watery diarrhea, too. I was at work, and didn't notice until a full day later, though my mother told me when I got home that "all I have done all day is clean up throw up and poop!"

I went around and examined the cats. I noted that some were drooling, a sign of poisoning, too. I immediately pulled the dry food and threw most of it out. (I saved the bag and the bottom six inches of food.) By the next day, I found one hiding in a closet. She had peed herself, was cold, and was obviously uncomfortable. I took her in this morning, and the vet told me that her kidney numbers are so high they didn't register, which means she is in kidney failure. She also has a super high white blood cell count.

Short version of this story: RESEARCH CAT FOOD MANUFACTURERS. We used to be able to trust them, and now their capitalistic greed has caused them to cut so many corners they're killing our furry children. I'll try to update with the lot number, and her prognosis, or if she dies.

She became so bad I had taken her to the Vet on August 27th 2015 and they had done blood work. Her kidney values were high and the blood work showed other issues. They kept her for two nights to get her kidney values back to normal. She came home on August 29th 2015. The Vet sent home some samples of K/D cat food. She was doing fine and acting happy again. I had ran out of the sample food over the weekend and the Vet's office was closed so I had given her some of the Purina Food I still had on hand. That was on Sept 5th 2015.

On Sunday Sept 6th 2015 Feisha started thrashing and foaming at the mouth and became deathly ill. Approximately 1:15 a.m. on September 7th 2015 she started letting out these horrible crying sounds and started thrashing again. I listened to her horrible sounding cries throughout that whole morning and felt horrible because I had no clue as to what was going on and I could no ease her pain. Shortly after 6 a.m Feisha passed away. My family and I are devastated over losing her. She was deeply loved. I still have some of the food but I do not have the bag. I had poured it into a container to give to the stray cats that live in the neighborhood. Can anyone tell me if there is somewhere that food can be tested to see if it was tainted in anyway? Like the others here, I too bought Purina (ProPlan for large breed dogs). We put the food immediately into a container and throw the bag out, so I can't verify any of that information. I did notice, when I bought it, that there was a cobweb on the outside. I figured it'd been sitting on the shelf a long time and even when I saw a cobweb IN the bag, after we dumped it into the container, thought little of it. We noticed a few days later, lots more flies in the house, but chalked it up to a crappy apartment. Meanwhile, our dog had been having issues with loose stool- everything else had been fine, still had appetite and wasn't vomiting. We took him to the vet, and with probiotics and other meds, his stool gradually improved (so I question if the food had an impact at all on his health).

I noticed last night, three weeks after bringing the food into our home, a LOT of flies in the pantry, where we only keep foods in sealed or packaged containers. We explored, and upon opening the food container, found bugs IN the food. Flying out at us. My husband took the food immediately to the dumpster, and cleaned the container. He found worms, larvae, and flies. We scrubbed the container, and cleaned the nooks and crannies with Q-Tips to get all the larvae (they were literally on every tiny, sheltered surface of the container), and spent the evening killing all the flies we could get our hands on.

Thankfully, the food hasn't really hurt our dog, but it's certainly caused issues. I called Petsmart and explained the situation and that I had neither the bag nor the food anymore, and they told me to bring the receipt in for a refund. They said they've gotten a lot of these complaints lately, and that it seems to be an issue with the package seams- apparently how it's now made allows stuff to get into the bags, either during shipping or while sitting in the warehouse. When I went to get the refund, I asked if this was such a big deal, why hasn't there been a recall- apparently Petsmart has been trying to get one, with no luck.

My heart breaks for the pets who've died from negligence by Purina. I'm so sorry, but if it helps, I shared the info online, and a friend who feeds her dog Pro Plan read it. They've had issues with flies in the house lately and her dog has been eating less lately (much like the first symptoms the sick dogs displayed). She realized the problem from this information and immediately stopped feeding her dog that food. As sad as it is, lives are being saved by telling stories of pain and loss. Thank you all very much for sharing your feedback- it's helping!

I recently bought Purina for my 8 month old puppy. Since, I noticed he has been eating less and slower than usual (I thought this was because he needed less) and he vomited twice this week. He's also been sleeping a lot and is less active. This is my first dog and he was a stray who is very shy, so I didn't know what to make of his behavior. When I went to get his food just now I saw moths in the area, then one flew out of his food bin at me. More moths appeared whenever I shook the bin. A quick Google search led me here, and after reading I checked for and found worms and webs in the food. In the area where I keep my puppy's food there were moths and webs with their young inside of them!

I'm really upset that I fed my puppy something that has been making him sick. This is a time when we should be building trust with one another and when he requires a healthy and hefty diet in order to grow. I worry now that he'll face problems later on in his life since it seems the product was sprayed with chemicals. I work in a grain lab where we inspect for quality, infestation, chemicals, etc, and most of the grain is bought as feed for livestock so I feel very close to this issue. These products are not safe. I'll visit my vet and pet store tomorrow to talk with them about my puppy's experience, ConsumerAffairs, and to seek treatment for my best friend.

I've made a report on bag of food that I had bought two weeks ago. It was a 20 lb. bag and they had already ate the other bag. This is/was the only brand they would eat...it was a 2-bag special at Target in Conway, AR. Our dogs are healthy today but were not eating as usual and they are no longer eating any store-bought food. We make our own dog food and freeze ahead of time...making a 2-cup serving of grains, rice, fish (meat), veggies, etc. in order to keep them healthy.

We have 100-lb Olde English Bulldogges, they are expensive (!!!) and already at health risk if not cared for properly. They are also our family!! We made a report and were told this is here a normal thing with the dog food... to send in a 2-cup sample for them to inspect, and that they would send our money 12.99$ back, and overnight us a box with everything needed...and they did. I am not satisfied and am not sure why the sample is needed when they are doing nothing. I will continue to follow this out of future concern for the other dogs who are not as lucky. I am disappointed in our concern for what is acceptable now days.

I was feeding my 13 month old Pug Friskies Mini Menu. She was very thin and didn't eat much of her dry food. I left down a bowl and she often didn't touch it all day, which I've recently heard is quite strange for a Pug as they are known to eat excessively if they can. I did think it was the weather as it's very hot here and I know dogs can eat up to 20% less during summer. This might have been a contributing factor but I have recently done some research and was shocked to find so many bad reviews. I've learned about fillers, artificial flavors and other ingredients that a dog should simply not be getting in their diet.

Besides all of this, which was enough for me to throw away my bag and opt for part homemade and part dry food (absolutely not Purina) diet, I noticed a lot of people talking about urinary problems, yellow bile looking vomit and irritated fur. I have experienced all of these problems with my Pug and I almost feel embarrassed that I didn't think that the food might be a problem. When reading up about these ingredients I just cannot believe that a company would take advantage of the fact that the animal can't tell the owners how crap it tastes and that it doesn't make them feel good. It's sad.

I bought a new bag for SmartBlend for our healthy 10 year old Bluetick Coonhound last week. Within 8 hours of her first meal she had diarrhea. Fed her 1 more meal from the bag and then stopped using it. She's listless with continuing diarrhea on day 3 and vomited this morning. We have fed her this product many times before without a problem and this is a dog with an iron stomach, not generally prone to food sensitivity or stomach upset. I'm returning the bag to the grocer and thought I should comment here because I noticed a lot of people posting similar problems recently.

I like many pet owners want our pets to be happy and healthy. Just this week my dear friend lost her cat. He got sick over past month lost a lot of weight. He finally was not able to eat or drink. We took him to the vet as he was slipping away. The night before he was moving slow but still seemed to be doing okay. By the morning he just had nothing left. He could not eat or drink and had been vomiting. Keep in mind this was a older cat maybe 12 years old. The vet had options but none that would make him better as some organs had shut down.

That day I brought home her bag of cat food because I have three cats and why waste a half full bag? Well three days later my 3 year old Cat who had been in great health like my other two started vomiting. I was not home the first night it started. The next night I was and found three areas of puke. I honestly did not think much about it. However this morning I found my cat in the kitchen and more puke on the floor. I have three cats and was not 100% sure which cat had been vomiting. My husband called me a few hours later and said the 3 year old Cat was acting strange. This cat sleeps with us and is very active and he was laying in the kitchen floor. He tried to get him to eat something. Yesterday morning this cat was running and playing just like normal. So I called the 24 vet hospital and told them and no help but bring him in.

I did further research and found this website. Honestly never thought about the food until I asked my friend when did she buy this food and how long did her Cat eat it. Her cat had been on it a month! It had lost weight and had to be put down. My cats eat dry food during the day and can food at night. I have thought of all of the things and am left with this. It could be the food I got from her. Her cat and all three of mine are inside only cats! I am keeping a close eye on my cat and doing all I can to nurse him back to health. I have taken the dry food away.

I am taking my cat to the vet Monday and getting exam. I am also taking the cat food to see if it can be tested. It just seems like there is a connection and I owe it to her Cat who passed and mine that is sick now to make sure. Her cat had stomach problems and so it was easy to overlook the vomiting. Weight loss maybe due to age but my young cat who was healthy and happy to take a sudden turn after eating same food sends up a huge red flag. I hope my cat will pull through but I still want answers and I am determined to get them.

Please report to your vet if your cat gets sick after eating this food. The bag expiration is Sept, 2016. I will post again once I speak to my vet and hopefully get the food tested. I pray my cat gets better but if not I will be doing toxicology test to find out what happened. He is so special to our family and I feel maybe her Cat could have experienced the same but not been as lucky. I hope all pet owners catch on quick and can save their pets. Praying I am one of the lucky ones. Just so sad we already cremated her Cat and we were not able to test him. Please speak up if your cat has had same issues!!!

I went on here to see many reviews on this; so I did what everyone else did: I got a Ziploc bag and put like two scoops of the purina in it. I studied it and not only saw bugs, but little worms too. I'm disgusted. He's been sick for the past couple days, and I suspect this is why. I called purina and all they said was they'd give me a free bag. I'm not getting another bag of that so no need for free bags pro plan! I never want this to happen to any animal out there, so I'm not buying purina pro plan dry dog food again!

I decided to switch his flavor up a little bit and went ahead and brought a 35 lb. bag of the beef and rice formula this time about 2 weeks ago. I had been noticing that he had been a little more hesitant to eating ALL of his food lately as he usually does, but I was guessing it was the flavor switch. I am the owner of two older cats (about 13 years) that have generally been quite healthy - but lately & quite suddenly, they have exhibited unusually frequent vomiting and one had developed a urinary problem that corresponds to the symptoms of FIC (feline idiopathic cystitis). They are usually fed a combination of canned cat food (evening) and dry cat food (morning). The dry food that we were using is Purina Friskies 'Senior Splendour'. Having become quite alarmed about the sudden urinary problem, I stopped putting out the dry food as all the relevant advice on FIC suggests that dry food (generally) can be a contributing cause of that problem.

As it turns out, so far, all of the symptoms - both urinary and vomiting related, have stopped. That's why I have found the comments on this forum to be very interesting - many of the symptoms described in these posts, the vomiting, the sliminess of vomits and stools - and vomits with a yellow-looking bile appearance, are all quite familiar in our case (the urinary problem is suspicious but not conclusive as it may relate to all, or most, dry foods). It is also interesting to note that these same symptoms have been experienced by pet owners in the US (we are in Australia) and that they have been related to wide range of Purina pet foods and not just one particular variety or batch.

Just as noteworthy are some of the American observations about Purina changing the formula (the pet food itself) while retaining the same brand and product name. Some consumer advocates have noted that these changes have occurred in the period following Nestle's recent acquisition of Purina. I find that interesting as well because my cats had been fed Friskies of a morning for several years prior without any of these symptoms appearing. While that observation is not entirely conclusive in itself, the overall evidence would appear to suggest that the "Friskies" that I was feeding them this year is not the same cat food that they were eating years ago... In which case it would appear that Nestle is not only selling a dangerous and inferior product, it has deceived the consumer by disguising this rubbish (whatever it is) with the name and identity of formerly trusted brand.

All the dogs were drinking an unusual amount of water. Thursday AM fed the dogs. Sam ate a little bit as did Bella.

We drove home 3 hrs. When we arrived home, Sam threw up. Bella is lethargic and shaking. Chailatte is not as frisky as she usually is when we arrive home after a trip. Friday AM Sam is refusing to eat, Bella is still shaking and not eating. This is not normal for my dogs. Made some chicken and rice for them. They both are eating a little, and seem to be a little better. I can only attribute their behavior to the dog food since they are getting better by not eating the Purina Beyond dog food. I just recently opened a large bag of Purina Dog Chow and was feeding it to my Yorkies. On July 25th approximately 930 my husband called me crying saying something was wrong with my baby girl. He said she was whimpering and then gasping for air. She eventually died in his arms while he was trying to do CPR on her. My baby girl was only 6, healthy as a whistle, no heart worms - nothing was wrong, NOTHING.

I took my male Yorkie to the vet to get a check up and the vet informed me that something they ate had poison in it similar to antifreeze. She immediately put my little guy on VitK. He refused to eat and I had to get an appetite stimulator from Royal Canin to get him to eating again. My baby is gone, I have a large dog food bag in my garage not knowing what to do with the crap and I feel like a big part is gone from me. I feel Purina should be responsible for this, I wish I could have my angel back. As far as my male he is slowly gaining his appetite back and his stools seem to be back to normal color. They both were sluggish. Sneezing and a nasal discharge. More bowel movements than usual. After many, many visits to our vet we were puzzled. They became worse. My chihuahua and Rotty had fluid in their lungs. My chihuahua had fluid around his heart also. They were on this poison food for almost 4 months. They DIED within 4 days of each other. I can't tell you the pain this brought my family. My vet and his team were and still are puzzled. I have been using this vet for 31 years.

PLEASE don't buy Purina. Nestle and Purina are one and I will not purchase any products from Nestle either. Go on the web and read the hundreds of sick animals from this food. No one seems to care. Who is monitoring these products?? Those of you who say "Oh my pets are on it and they are o.k." They may be fine now but is it really worth the risk!!! I recently started feeding my 5-year old dog Purina Pro Plan dry dog food. Within a week my dog became ill. He had an upset stomach with gas, and bloody diarrhea that lasted for about a week. I attributed this to his sensitive stomach, and thought it was due to switching his food. Around the same time, I noticed some white flecks in the kibble. Inside of the flecks were white larvae similar to maggots. I dug through the food and found that it was infested with these larvae. I immediately returned the food, and exchanged it for another bag of the same, being told it was probably just an isolated incident.

The second bag was literally crawling with small black beetles. I have never had this happen before in 20 plus years of buying pet food. I believe Purina has a problem! After a little research, I am horrified to see that Purina pet foods appear to be poisoning family pets across the country. Bugs seem to be the least of the problem. I feel lucky that my dog is ok. This is terrible. I think that there needs to be a recall of these products until there is an answer as to why it is causing illness and death in beloved pets. I will never buy Purina again.

In just ONE week, my cat has vomited 10 times and he is now refusing to eat. I thought maybe he was sick from something outside, but I tried giving him some tuna and he gobbled it up. I want to be clear, he LOVES dry cat food. In the past, he has NEVER touched anything BUT dry cat food. Even when I have given him wet food, he only lapped up some of the sauce and left the meat. I always thought this was strange, but I figured "to each their own", right?

Well, after doing a little digging (VERY LITTLE - apparently it's rather common), I found that Purina Complete and other Purina products TEND to make pets sick. So, why are they still making their food this way?! I am upset that a company with such a good reputation has stooped to fillers that make animals sick. I guarantee that the response to this would be that only 1/100 cats have gotten sick in testing. Let me ask you a question then: would you feed your baby, cousin, uncle, or yourself something that, when tested, showed that 1/100 people got sick, bloated, vomited blood, puked, etc? I'm going to bet that's a no.

We always have anywhere from 3-6 dogs as I do dog rescue & always recommend this food but only Purina's Pro Plan. This problem started about 3 weeks ago when I opened 2 33lb bags of the Selects Turkey & Barley food. I immediately smelled a chemical smell from both bags. 2 of my 3 dogs would not eat it but I didn't let anyone eat it. I returned to Petsmart & exchanged for 2 other bags of Pro Plan Selects Turkey & Barley & headed home.

One bag had the old packaging but the date was good. One bag had the new packaging like the 2 bags I returned. I opened the new packaging bag & I smelled that awful smell again! I opened the old packaged bag & it smelled normal so I fed it to my 3 guys. I store their food in the original bag in an air tight container & I opened the container to feed them & the whole inside was filled with maggots (or so I thought). This was at night so I ran to Petsmart to return & get another brand of food. My husband told me to take pictures of the worms & it turns out they were Grain Worms! UGH!

I contacted Purina & they were very nice. They sent me a Test Kit in the mail for the food that had the awful smell but I doubt I'll hear anything about that food. I now believe that batch of food was sprayed with a chemical to kill the Grain Worms because all those bags had new packaging. I am having a horrible time trying to find a dry dog food that they will all eat & it agrees with them. The night I was in a rush I quickly looked at ingredients of other dry foods & grabbed a bag of Blue. They loved it but it does not agree with their tummies. I was wanted to warn others that I pray will read this! Thank You.

There would be neon coloured cat vomit all down the sides of the cat tower, in random places around the house and on our white carpet (and that stuff's not easy to clean up)... We just thought it was normal. It was our chubby cat that puked the most and he eats really quickly - so we just thought hey, he must be eating too fast. The dry food wasn't even chewed when it came out - it looked pretty much like it had just come out of the bag so it was pretty unmistakable that it was the Kit & Kaboodle food that was being thrown up.

Well anyway, after seeing Purina in the news we decided to switch to Goodlife. This was about 4 or 5 months ago and there hasn't been 1 single pile of vomit ANYWHERE. Looking back on it, it was most definitely the Purina Kit & Kaboodle that was causing all of our cats stomach problems. And I have to say, I feel pretty lucky that that was the only problem we had. I will not be buying anymore Purina cat food for our kitties. We have even stopped giving them Fancy Feast which is a shame because they actually enjoyed that.

I believe in August 26 she was 2 1/2 lbs overweight at Doc visit. When your legs are barely 2 inches long that can be a problem. Sassy has ate Pedigree dry and Turkey pouch all of her life. In late Sept I decided to switch dry Pedigree with PURINA Dog Chow Light & Healthy slowly with a small portion of her Turkey pouch. By February she had lost her weight and looking great, but noticed her little tummy would swell a little (thought it might be the fiber in food).

Then two small spots come up on her middle back near her neck. I thought she got stung by a wasp (had seen a couple already). It was just a few days until her 6 month appointment, so on March 25, 2015 we went to see doc - excited to show him she lost weight, Rexie lost a little, and take her Roxie (kitty) for her first shots, but concerned about the two spots by each other. Got a extra shot and salve for two small spots on Sassy's back. Over next couple weeks it got worse, but shot was a 10 day antibiotic.

I decided to stop PURINA and go back to her pedigree… JUST A FEELING. Did a little research on PURINA website and found other dogs had weird skin rashes on back eating it. More I read the more upset I got... Dogs were dying! Liver damage! Rexie was ok, but he did have a seizure on my birthday in January. It is also one of the things some did. I wasted no time, back to doc. I told doc about what I read. On April 17 doc took more test. 3 bottles of meds, special bath soap, and more salve, her liver count was up. It was weird stuff her hair was coming off in sections, skin felt like thick not real skin. Couple weeks later May 1, more steroids (had just finished her other meds and steroids), doc cleaned of sections. Now it was wide and almost all the way down back, a little under arms, it was so sad. But she was still happy, active and wagging that tail. Taking special baths 2 to 3 times a week. Nothing could make her down. I noticed tummy was swelling more when she ate. More water and bathroom, but steroids do that. Things was looking much better.

She loved walking in yard in the fence, running through the grass. If grass got 2 inches Randy would mow again to keep moisture off her belly and underarms. Hair was starting to come back slowly on back, belly/chest was going through process just like back but I was still noticing belly puffing. Had to watch heat and sun on her back. This little dog loved sun bathing. She had her sunbathing plan every summer, brown as a little berry, lol, swimming and tanned at end of summer. She got a little upset we would not let her do much this year. I was scared she could sunburn, not much hair, walked some with umbrella. July seemed she did not want to climb her little steps to couch anymore. She would sleep in her little nap bed - not normal, always by her Gran/Randy.

August 5, Wednesday, she woke up and was going to potty, I noticed she was limping a little on back right leg. We thought ok she must have hurt it. That night she woke me up to go potty. I helped her by carrying, seemed she was not getting around very well at all, prayed it would get better. Thursday little slower, I told Randy that evening I thought she had a mini stroke in her back leg or side. That did not go well. I told him I thought he needed to get prepared and that did not go well at all. Just that feeling and watching Rexie and Roxie going over to her checking on her. She did not eat all of her food, not a good sign - usually have to guard Rexie so he can finish. I was up and down with her all night helping her get around.

Friday Randy said he thought I was right about a stroke. We were really helping her around more. Randy decided to give her some of her Turkey pouch for breakfast, just because and she ate. I was a little worried because of tummy puffy. Not long, she got sick. Randy brought her to pool later that evening and we let her swim gently in my arms working her back leg hoping it would help. She liked it. Later, she did not want a hi-ho cracker. Randy really got upset. She will maul you for one. I fixed her pure chicken and rice to see if she would eat, still drinking water and potting ok. She did eat a little. Up all night with her sick. I don't think she kept any of it.

Saturday still a little sick. Would not eat anything. Scotty and Renee' come over to see her. She loved that, always loves the babies to come. She barked a little bark in excitement when Sibby, Hannah, and Triston come over - she always does. Shane come home worried about her. She was excited to see Shane, new gray pound puppy! Rexie got a new baby and Roxie (kitten) got in bag and found hers before Shane could give her present to her. It is like Santa Claus, they do learn. Aunt Shane brings surprises. I stayed up all night in recliner, helping my sweetie. She is very independent, but would get tired fast, that is just me. I think I can read puppy minds. No one can do it but me, stubborn! She would not eat her supper and Rexie knew she would not eat, he always goes and gets her. It is a game for him. He is a year younger than her and 30+ lbs to her 10 but he come set down waiting quietly, not normal.

Sunday still helping her a bunch. Randy and Shane could see the change from Friday to Sunday was huge - getting weaker. She wanted to go outside on deck late Sunday evening. I had gone to swim a few minutes leg was really swelled on me. I would call her and she would look straight at me and little tail would wag and eyes sparkle three times or more. She loved being out there, walked a little, tummy more puffy and had not ate.

From Sunday morning to Sunday night she was so tiny but tummy not. She rested in her bed, but if the kids or anybody called her name she looked straight at them with a little wag. She was getting weaker. We all told her separately, found out later, she could go to doggy heaven if she needed to. Coby, Tex, and Lucky would be there waiting for her. About 1:48 am, she left us. Never had been sick a day in her life! Pics one on stool, March. The rash pics July. The pic with puppy's Saturday night. Pic with her little brown pup was Sunday afternoon. No more pics, it got too bad before she passed away.

He only had very little and he got so sick. I had to force fluids down him all night to keep him from dehydration. I'm so upset they damn near killed my baby. If he was human they would have a lawsuit but he is just a dog.. Well, he isn't to me and my life was turned upside down for three long days. Not to mention the pain he was in and the worry and stress me and my daughter went through. Purina, you should be closed down. I'm so upset and terrified to feed my baby any dog food. I'm going to seek damages and reimbursement for the damages you have done to us. You need to eat your product and go through what he went through.

This is a PATE, not something with gravy & is now diluted with much water. More food is needed. This is unacceptable. I will have to order 4 cases instead of 3 because of their greed -- something I cannot afford. Shame on them.

This last week with this new formula, my chihuahua nine years old and my lab Shepherd mix, one year old both suffered complications from eating this food, as I gave them nothing else. The chihuahua had to be taken in to emergency for dehydration and put on intravenous fluids for two days along with receiving antibiotics for a now kidney infection, the lab also had diarrhea and vomited, and I now have been having to cook them a very bland diet which consist of home boiled chicken and rice and some veggies. The vet bill was over $700.00 and I can only confirm that this happened because of the food they were eating. The puppy did not get sick as he was eating only puppy food. But the other two who only ate the Purina Lamb and Rice formula did get sick.

One of my dogs needed to lose a few pounds, so I took some time to look at some lower calorie product offerings. One was Purina Light & Healthy, which proudly announced it was made "with real chicken" on the front of the bag. As I always do, I turned the bag over to read the ingredients, which I believe are shown with the most prevalent ingredient first, and so on down the list. What an eye-opener!

Here are the first ten ingredients: Whole Grain Corn, Soybean Hulls, Soybean Meal, Meat & Bone Meal, Whole Grain Wheat, Soybean Germ Meal, Corn Germ Meal, Egg & Chicken Flavor, Corn Gluten Meal, Chicken. There is more Chicken Flavor than Chicken in Purina Light & Healthy! The average consumer would never suspect they were buying a product with "real chicken" as the tenth ingredient. Purina would be doing all pet owners a significant service if they would clearly display the first three ingredients on the front of the bag, instead of hiding it in small print on the back of the bag. Not just for their Light & Healthy, but for every one of their products.

I saw the commercial for Cat Chow Gentle and I had her try it. It's great because she doesn't throw it up. But, suddenly I started noticing "skid marks" on the carpet around the litterbox. The food is making her poop thicker and stickier. She's a short haired cat, it's not sticking to her fur, it's sticking to her butt. So, now she's wiping her butt on our floors. I think I'm going to go back to the Blue Wilderness wet food. Feeding her a million times a day is a lot better than steam cleaning poop-skid-marks off the carpet every day.

This company sold and continues to sell Waggin Train Chicken Jerky and Canyon Creek Chicken Jerky AFTER hundreds of complaints about sick and dying pets. They pulled the items from shelves for a couple of months to let things die down and put them back in March of 2014. I called them they assured me that the removal from the shelves was self-imposed and their product was 100% safe. I fed them to my dog who loved them and she became ill. I did not connect it at first so when she recovered I gave her another one over several days, my oldest Cat would steal pieces of it. Well my dog became ill for several days and my cat ended up with kidney failure and was put to sleep in October.

A few months ago my dog took deathly ill and I spent a week on the floor with her spooning teaspoons of water into her mouth to keep her from becoming dehydrated. And sleeping on the floor with her (she is a Chihuahua) because she was taking seizures and I didn't want her to fall off the bed. When she recovered and I began feeding her the normal food she took ill again and had a relapse, I thought I would lose her. I finally figured out it was the dog food and stopped it. Yesterday I found out that Beneful (which was what I had been feeding her) was under recall. Seriously, and then yesterday they announced this same Brand, in India has recalled noodles because they have high levels of lead in them. They have antifreeze additive in the Beneful and whatever else in the Jerky.

This company has refused to remove the items from the shelves. Contact with them gets reduced to threats of blocking from facebook and announcements that they are the largest food company in the world. I asked them if that was a threat to me or an announcement that they are untouchable. They state they are 100% safe yet animals are sick and dying. Something needs to be done. They have graduated from careless disregard of manufacturing and processing practices of animal products to human food. They will end up killing someone, and then what??? We cry after the fact. They need to be reorganized they need to be inspected constantly and they need to start bringing their policies of food manufacturing into safe guidelines or they need to be shut down!!!

I have attached some posts from their Facebook pages yesterday. All they are interested in is shutting me up, including telling me how big they are. I asked if that was a threat or an announcement that they are untouchable. There is a problem here. They have gone from animals to humans. If they were a person we would be looking at them as potential serial killers. But since they are a company they are getting away with a slap on the wrist and being allowed to lie. In January the FDA went after them for several issues and they responded with their usual everything is great rhetoric. The FDA responded with that won't work with us and you have 15 days to... There is a copy of that letter on the FDA site. This company is going to end up killing someone with their complete disregard of life. And they will at that time apologize for the people's loss and stand by they are 100% safe!!!

They are putting anything that save them money in the food. Antifreeze additives in the dog food, whatever they have in the jerky and now lead in the noodles they are selling in India. What is their response on one of the posts? "Oh that is in India not the US." So what that makes it better? People in India don't deserve to have safe food? Pets and Pet owners don't deserve to feel safe? The FDA is not making them pull the products as of yet. But if enough consumers make enough noise they will have no choice. And if it takes me leading the band then so be it. If someone becomes deathly ill on their food, if one more animal dies like my beautiful Maine Coon Cassie or ends up with lingering seizures like my girl Chia it is not going to be because I sat and did nothing!!!

Normally I buy beef, and I didn't notice it until too late. Three hours after feeding my dogs, both were vomiting multiple times. They were with me, in the house, all day, because it was pouring rain out today. I am sure they didn't get into anything outside, and I don't use anything in the yard that would hurt them. I can only attribute the gastric problem to this new food. I have given them various brands of canned beef dog food over the years (they are 8 and 9 yrs old), with no problems. Something is not right with this canned food I bought today. I will be returning it to the store tomorrow and suggesting it be removed from the shelves. Noticed that one of my cats got sick... just thought it might have eaten too quickly or had a hairball. But then one after another they all began to vomit and have very yellow watery stools. I knew they didn't get into anything and could not figure out anything different that could have caused this till my husband said "it's got to be the food." I stopped feeding the food and went and got a new bag and the vomiting stopped. The stools are starting to get back to normal. I called Purina and told them I believe their food caused my cats/kittens to be sick. They asked for the UPC code and Mfg Code and Good till this date info but didn't seem shocked that this could happen or anything.

The lady I spoke with said she would pass information to department that handles but I have not heard a word from them. I did ask her if they wanted the food back to test to see if there was something wrong with it and she said no. I asked her if I should return to the store so they can pull the rest from their shelves and she replied "if you want." I did return the remaining bag to the store for a refund and let them know the food was bad. So now after seeing all these reviews I will never get this food for my cats/kittens again. I just hate to think what would have happened had I kept feeding this to them.

It got to the point I just left my carpet cleaner out since it was an everyday occurrence. I was also noticing one of them was having a bloody stool in the litter box.

As soon as we picked her up, we headed straight to Petsmart so we could get a small bag of food until I went grocery shopping on Friday and did our usual round of food pick up for my animals. I have a passel of cats and now our dog. I picked up a bag of Purina Healthy Morsels Puppy food for my dog. Since I've never had a dog before, I had no idea what I was doing. I should've known better after feeding that junk, almost killed one of my cats as well.

Our first week home, she ate pretty ravenously. She's a puppy and that's generally what they do. Three days after we brought her home, she starts vomiting EVERYWHERE. Explosive diarrhea EVERYWHERE. It was just liquid pouring out of her on both ends. We rush her to the vet on Mother's Day (not even a whole week since we brought her home!) and they diagnosed her with garbage gut. I didn't buy it, but whatever. They sent us home with some Reglan, some antibiotics and some prescription food to see if she'll come around and eat it.

The next day, she had eaten two tablespoons of food in 24 hours. She was weak, still vomiting and still having diarrhea. Her vet thought she might have had a blockage but when they opened her up, there was no blockage. But for three days, she was on IV fluids because she would not eat, and could barely move. Because of my vet's know-how and my quick action, my poor little puppy lived. But these monsters almost KILLED her. We have since switched to Iams and Blue Buffalo. I will NEVER, EVER feed my animals Purina products again. Not EVER. I firmly believe it was the food that did this to her, and I know for a FACT that my vet said my cat's old food (Friskies) caused my cat's urethra to block. Since switching to Hill's for him, no issues whatsoever. Something sincerely needs to be done about what Purina is doing. They are literally getting away with genocide and no one is doing anything about it!

One time the store was out of the "complete" and I picked up the Purina Cat Chow Indoor green bag. She ate one time & never touched again so immediately back to the complete it was for her. In the past year or so I started seeing shredded portions of the crunchies left in her bowl. She started throwing up frequently and she began drinking what seemed like a ton of water daily. Then the weight loss kicked in. I brought her in for testing and her bilirubin was up & liver failure had begun.

After a 3 wk fight to "reverse the damage" it was apparent I was way too late and nothing more could be done. She was 17 and just put to rest yesterday, but I sincerely believe she was a cat that would have lived to her mid twenties! Could a change in the ingredients have caused this? I am heartbroken and feel horrible for feeding her this killer food -- as I just starting searching on a whim. How can our Country let this happen? Purina needs to be accountable for the poisoning they are inflicting on our fur babies so their pockets can grow!

I have used Friskies wet cat food for over 25 years. I just received 2 cases from Amazon (I use subscribe and save) and my cats won't touch it. I noticed this about 5 days ago. My 3 cats of 6 years old and very healthy. One of them ate some of the food, the other two just kind of looked at it, then looked at me as if to say "What's this?" and proceeded to walk away from it. I thought if I changed the flavor from Milled Grill Pate to Turkey and Giblets Pate which they've always seemed to enjoy the most. Again, the same thing, but this time all 3 walked away from it after sniffing....I tried again the next day, Salmon Pate -- no go. THEY WILL NOT EAT IT. The one cat who ate it is not chattering constantly, drooling, and when I found him sleeping so sounding, I literally almost had to pick him up to awaken him.

I started looking online for answers. I have found MANY others describing these behaviors -- and some have lost their furry friends. I read that if 1159 are the last 4 digits of the code on the bottom of the cans that this SHOULD NOT be fed to our pets. BOTH of the boxes I've received are this code! (I opened the second to try this morning and they walked away). I've learned from my research that this is a plant in Allentown, PA, and found that a VERY DETAILED warning was issued to them in how they processed food there for both cats and dogs. It seems there should be a recall.

I had been giving my cats Pro Plan dry but after my five year old Holly got sick I stopped. I don't know if it was the food or a coincidence but I didn't want to risk it. I only give them Friskies pate and Fancy Feast classic. Neither has wheat flour or gluten in them. Both can cause vomiting and bloated belly. Even diarrhea. Holly has no more problems. My girls aren't diabetic but pate foods are good for diabetes. Also, dairy and whey can cause problems. Read labels carefully.

This product has caused severe gas problems with my cats. I don't mean the smell kind of gas. It's the kind that causes excruciating abdominal pain. I've had to have one cat euthanized because, as a senior feline, she couldn't handle the side effects (bloating, terrible pain, weight loss, vomiting). Today I took one of my remaining cats to the vet because he was showing the same symptoms. They had to take x-rays which showed the same problems with gas as my late kitty. I will never again purchase Purina products. It has now cost me a beloved family member and close to $2000 not including the inflated price of the food!

We have a 3 month old puppy, Mazy, and a 3 year old dog, Astro. Astro vomited a few times, but thought it was excitement of the new puppy and moving. Mazy got into Astro's food which resulted in diarrhea and vomiting, but the vet thought it was the change in diet. A diet of chicken and rice and both dogs were great. We slowly reintroduced their food. Mazy, being on Iams puppy food, was great. Astro started vomiting again. We are now certain it was the Purina Beyond Tuna and Egg dog food. Hindsight is 20/20 and now it seems so obvious.

I purchased a bag of Purina Beneful Healthy Weight for my 4 dogs, the smallest, 5lb Coco ate a bowl of the food. The following day after eating a treat she threw up, that day she would not eat the food. The next day a made chicken with veggies and brown rice. She ate in small quantities but stopped and then I tried just plain chicken. She also ate small quantities but stopped eating it after a couple of days. At the end of the week she did not look good so I took her to the Vet. Blood test revealed she was had kidney failure and her pancreas was not working. She was put on IV fluids, antibiotics and a stomach medicine.

Thru the weekend she got worse, she could not hold her up straight and could hardly stand. Sunday morning I made the decision and had her euthanized. Sunday night I was still racking my brain on how this started, and the more I think about it, she was fine until the night she ate Purina Beneful dog food. The following day is when this began. Myself and my family are thoroughly distraught about this situation, I can't stop thinking about it. After reading several posts here and Facebook I am 100% Purina Beneful caused this and I will have the food tested if I can.

PURINA IS KILLING DOGS!!! I took my dog Louie to the vet when he stared to gain weight the vet said he was fine, I just needed to change his diet and get him some exercise. I also told him he was eating clothing. He said some dogs just do that. I looked up and couldn't find any real reason. So I started walking him more and changed his dog food to Purina One. He gained more weight and was bloated all the time and no matter how we tried to keep him away from eating clothing he would always find a way to eat some.

We had changed dog food not knowing about the problems with Purina but it was too late. In the end he was drinking a lot of water, he starting urinating, vomiting and had shortness of breath. We took him to the vet and he said he had diabetes and his blood count was very bad. He said there was nothing we could do. Louie died 17 hours later on March 17th, 2015. He was only eight years old. We just discovered PURINA IS KILLING THOUSANDS OF DOGS. We have two dogs, it only affected Louie. DON'T FEED PURINA!!! There is a lawsuit against Purina.

On April 16th I bought a large bag of Purina Cat Chow to feed the housed rescued cats that live in my garage and the outdoor wild cats. The indoor garaged cats have had no contact with my indoor housed cats or outside wild cats. Unfortunately, 3 days ago I noticed yellow vomit, diarrhea and 4 dead cats 10 months old or younger in my garage. Yesterday, 4 more cats were also found dead in my garage of the same age. Only 2 adult (greater than 2 year old) cats remain in my garage. Unfortunately, they do not look well. I have noticed several moths in the garage, presumably from the cat food housed in my garage. I have a large garage to house these rescues. I attend to them daily, changing their litter twice per day and monitoring their health and food intake. These cats have been in my garage for 10 months or longer without outside contact.

My indoor cats are perfectly healthy, but they are fed a higher quality of food. In fact, I took in another rescue mama that has 4 week old kittens in my house and seems to be perfectly healthy. Based on this observation, I can only conclude that Purina Cat Chow is responsible for the death of these 8 cats. The outside wild cats have all disappeared with the exception of two older ones. I am concerned that they have suffered the same fate. I realize that these are very harsh statements but something is going on. I believe the only source of the poison for these garaged cats and the disappearance of the outside cats must be the cat food. Purina, please investigate this horrific tale. I use a container to house my food so that bugs don't get into it in my garage. I do not have the bag any longer, but it was bought at Sam's Club April 16th, 2015 in Ontario, California.

I thought it was a hairball problem for some time until he started throwing up the yellow bile and became very lethargic. It happened very quickly, he was ill over the weekend, took him to the vet on Monday and by then his ears had lost all their color. The vet said he had severe anemia, they put him on steroids, but we had to have him put down a few days later, as his body was attacking itself. The vet said it was genetic.

About two months later our 1 year old kitten started the same symptoms. We immediately put him on steroids and began trying different foods. Just recently my son made me aware of an issue with Purina dog food, so we changed brands of food, as up until that point we had only changed kinds of food but stayed within the Purina brand. Orion our one year old kitten is just about back to himself again, praise God. But I can not believe what I was seeing when I found this website. I absolutely swore by this food for years. It was the only cat food I gave mine (dry or canned), and (at the time) I believed it was one of the reasons my cats lived so long. I've had 17 cats so far. 12 of those lived of 15 - 22 years. My newest 5 are all younger than 9. SOMETHING HAS CHANGED. I switched to Purina ONE Hairball Formula back in January because of the furball problem my 2 Persian mixes had. Since then, 4/5 of my cats have since been to the vet at least 1x each, and extremely ill. Out of the blue, they will gag without producing furballs, lose their appetites, become lethargic, and subsequently get throat infections. Since switching to a higher quality brand, it's all changed. SOMETHING IS WRONG. After reading the many complaints about Purina, I've come to the conclusion that they've changed something. Until they admit something is wrong, I will NEVER go back. PLEASE look into something vet recommended.

I went to a store and thought "Let me just grab a bag to get through the weekend" so I bought Purina One Smart Blend and after feeding to my 2 dogs they both threw up but it gets worse. The one who ate the most started vomiting blood puddles of blood from this food, the other dog who had just a lil' bit just threw up and acted lethargic and is a 3-month-old puppy who for the last 24 hours has slept and hopefully going to get better. The other dog has ended up in a vet emergency room very ill. Contacted Purina on a Sunday and posted on Facebook and I was shocked on how fast they called me back, guilt probably, image control definitely. My dog was healthy and never ill, no allergies. Both dogs within hours of eating this poison got ill. To see your dog throwing up puddles of blood is disheartened.

I quickly went online to see if there were recalls and by my surprise, the amount of web pages warning of the Nestle company aka Purina aka Beneful company and dogs becoming ill after eating their product were unbelievable and cannot believe no laws or government has stepped in to protect our pets which are living breathing animals which are being poisoned and no one is held accountable. So far the emergency room visit and my dog being kept overnight is costing me thousands and Purina answer to me is "Can our vet contact your vet?" What kind of company has a vet on stand by? They know what their products are doing.

I kept a sample of the food to find a trusted person to test the food to see what chemical or poison is in the food. The quick response on a Sunday from the company leaves me to believe that they have a customer service team dedicated to respond to this cause they know their product is capable of murdering. Yes murder that's what it is when you willing and lawfully know the actions taken lead to a death intentionally.

Within weeks of feeding him this food, he began vomiting and having diarrhea. We took him to the vet, and she suggested a natural cat food. We switched to Purina Naturals as it was supposedly so much better. The vomiting continued. My cat’s breath became intolerable. He would vomit foam and yellow bile, when he wasn't immediately vomiting food back up.

We took him to the vet again and she could not understand what was wrong with him. He went on steroids to get his appetite up, but it didn't work. On a whim, I switched to another food. Spot's Grain Free. It's more expensive than Purina was, but I was desperate. My cat was dying and something had to be done. Within 3 days of the food change, my cat completely stopped vomiting.

Within 2 weeks his breath is better, and he's not vomited once aside from a normal springtime hairball. He's been on a new food for a month now, and he's put on a healthy amount of weight. He's playful. If you're reading this, DO NOT FEED PURINA TO YOUR PETS. I have read so many sad stories from people, and I almost lost my cat to that food too. Pay a little more for your food. I wish I had thrown it away then. Both ended up eating it; one more than the other. Only a few hours after I gave the kitties "Captain's Catch" flavor, did they begin vomiting.

At first I thought it was that they had eaten too much (Mr. Wobbles tends to be a bit of a piggy) and when they began with diarrhea, I knew something was wrong. I left fresh water out and by the end of the second evening of vomiting and refusal to eat and drink, I rushed them to the vet for emergency subcutaneous fluids and metronidazole as well as shots for anti nausea and anti diarrhea. One pulled through and seemed fine. Mr. Wobbles however, continues to fail. He will be spending the night at the vet with intravenous fluids and under watch. They are only 1 year old. I looked for many causes, thinking especially that they were eating too fast, and tried different feeding methods to help slow them down, but it only got worse.

My Cavalier was vomiting violently all day yesterday and last night my lab started vomiting blood. We are now sure it was the food, and when I did some research last night, I found out Purina has pending lawsuits from a fairly large group of consumers who claim their dogs were poisoned by the food and had all the same symptoms my dogs are having. This morning I fed both dogs small amounts of a new food and a little more of the new food this afternoon, and for the first time in weeks they've both held everything down and both already look and seem a lot better. I just hope we stopped feeding them the Purina in time and there are no long term health issues.

What makes me the most upset is when I contacted Purina over the phone, they denied any issues with their products, and removed my post describing my experience from their Facebook page because it did "not adhere to community standards." In the last few months there are over 1000 incidents listed on Consumer Affairs site, almost identical to my experience, some worse, yet Purina stands by the safety of their products and feels these reports are all false and misleading allegations. I am not one to ever complain to a corporation - usually if I'm unhappy with a product I just throw it away and move on - but this is extremely frightening and Purina needs to take this seriously.

M has diabetes, so he mostly just eats dry diabetic food, but we mix some of the Friskies wet to the dry. Recently both cats have been sniffing it and walking away. Moments before they were just yowling and hungry for dinner while we were making it, and then just walked away after it was given to them. Something was definitely wrong.

Within the next two weeks, our healthy, non-diabetic cat, K, became lethargic and was refusing to eat at all. Tuesday, K was vomiting bile and foam, and wouldn't eat or drink and was yowling in obvious pain. Two days at the vet followed by a very expensive consultation with an internal medicine specialist vet, and we finally learned today that K has extensive internal bleeding caused by rat poison. There is absolutely NO WAY that either of our cats could have come in contact with rat poison, mice or droppings or anything like that in our home. I repeat, NOT POSSIBLE.

The only thing that makes sense about this is their food. M has dry kibble available when he'd walk away from the wet food so he'd still get to eat, but K had no other options as she can't eat dry kibble and would eventually eat the wet food after a day of not eating. K is still alive right now, but, unless there are some miraculous findings in her last blood test, we'll have to put her down tonight. Even if she lives, it's not okay that she had to go through something so awful. We are throwing out every last can of Friskies tonight and will never force Purina on our pets again.

When discussing this with friends, I've had someone say, "Why would they kill off their source of income?" Great question! Something Purina should be asked. Obviously SOMETHING is going on. There are multiple shelters in our area that will absolutely not accept any kind of donations of Purina food. And, coincidentally, a few months ago our new puppy came with a bag of Purina Puppy Chow. She ate very little and we decided to try a new food. We mixed the Puppy Chow 50/50 with the new food as suggested when you change their food... she pulled out and ate every kibble of the new food and would not touch the Puppy Chow. Go figure.

How can you be so greedy as to continue to allow this to happen? This is as INHUMANE as if you held a gun to their heads and pulled the trigger but slower and more painful. This must be rectified!!!

Since feeding kibble n bits & beneful I have noticed my dog not eating her food and vomiting yellow emesis. I figured it was nothing but maybe she ate grass while playing in my yard. These last three days my dog has taken a total of 12 seizures after giving kibble n bits. My children are extremely upset not knowing what is wrong with her. I brought her to vet who prescribed phenobarbital. After thinking what might be a key factor triggering this illness it brought me to conclude purina kibble n bits. I threw out the remaining food. My dog appears better today and no vomiting or seizures yet so far. I will contact Purina directly because this is unacceptable to be using products that are toxic that are a chemical used in antifreeze.

So I just moved into a new house with my 3 cats. Shortly after, the lot of them began puking incessantly. At first I thought they were just nervous about being in a new house because they have been eating Purina One Grain Free for months and loved it. I would joke about how you'd think I'd starved them and that they'd never seen food before because they'd eat it so fast. So I changed their food just in case that was the problem but they turned their nose up to this new food so I switched back to Purina and assumed the puking would stop once they got used to their new home. Well the puking did not stop and tonight I have even found blood in the litter box. I took away their food immediately and gave them wet food and then white rice and chicken broth. They seem better already and have not puked in hours.

I am 100% convinced it was the food. Why else would all 3 cats get sick at the same time in the same way when all they have in common is their food? This bag of food in particular even looks different than previous in pellet size alone which I had thought was suspicious. They appear to be feeling better but I am terrified that I will wake up to a dead cat(s) in the morning. Hopefully the effects of this poison aren't permanent but I will be contacting the vet first thing in the morning as well as Purina. I am enraged that they have not recalled this product that is killing our pets. I mean, I thought I was buying top notch food- expensive "all natural" because we want what's best for our pets and now I've made them all deathly ill. I definitely will be heavily researching all pet products before I buy and I guarantee it will not be anything associated with Purina in any way.

After transitioning to the product for quite some time, we finally started eating the Healthy Weight food 100% at the beginning of March 2015. Within 2 days of eating that product my cat began throwing up. I took him to the vet and they did blood work and said it was perfect. They then did an x-ray and said that he had lots of gas, was constipated, and maybe had a hair ball. No masses were noted.

I immediately contacted Purina and was told there was no recall on that product. They offered to give me some money to close the claim but I told them that the cat was very sick and that wanted to keep the claim open until the matter was resolved. My cat is very ill. He will not eat his Purina food. So we are struggling with not eating and vomiting. He has been put on fluids, prednisone, nausea medicine, appetite stimulant, antibiotic, etc. If the tides do not turn soon my 10 year old cat will die. He was fine until he began eating the CC Healthy Weight food. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Help!!!! I do not want lose my cat.

Three of our cats, Jack, Pepper, and Junior, have been vomiting quite often in the last couple of days. We first attributed the vomiting to possible hairball issues with the onset of spring, but the vomit does not contain hair. The vomit tends to be a clear, thick, sticky secretion. We've witnessed these three cats vomiting, but that's not to say one of our other five cats aren't contributing to the ever-growing vomit piles around the house. I noticed when I scooped our litter boxes and filled-up the food bowl in the last two days that barely any of the food has been touched. This got me wondering if the food could be the culprit. Nothing else in our cats' lives has changed in the last couple of days, but we just emptied a brand new 16-lb. bag of Purina One Smartblend Chicken and Turkey cat food into our storage bin in the last couple of days. This seems to coincide with the onset of the vomiting.

I went online to see if anyone else is having problems with this product, and have found MANY instances of animals getting sick (with vomiting being the early symptom) from Purina pet food products, and specifically Purina One Smartblend. After reading many online reviews, I will no longer feed our cats with Purina products, and I will also stop feeding Purina's Beneful to our dogs. We will go back to Iams pet food products.

Buster was a very healthy and active 8 year old Airedale. Over a 10 day period he started having a breath issue which we thought he must have to have his teeth cleaned. He also slowed down on his water consumption and food [Purina Rice and Chicken] and began eating a lot of snow. On examination of Buster’s teeth we noticed he had bleeding and hemorrhages in his gums and starting to pass blood in his urine. We took Buster to the vet and his blood was quite normal and showing what we thought was a warfarin [rat] poisoning. Started vitamin K and had blood check and was determined to be clear of poison. Within 8 hours our little buddy was in full blown hemorrhage.

When I got him to the vet I was told he only had an hour to live so we did what no pet owner ever wants to do and had him put to sleep. Buster had been on this Purina product for most of his life, its seems a little odd that he would go down so fast right around the time we started a new bag of food. Could be coincidence. Would love to know how to go about having the product tested. If there is an issue in the pet food industry I hope we can get to the bottom of it before we lose any more of our valued companions.

At first it seemed good, resulting in still a acid reflux, but bowel movements were good, timely and solid. I purchased a new bag last week and right away the dog fell ill, throwing up, bowel movement blowouts, very black, totally liquid, then could not control, which he never had that problem. Became lethargic, almost like clouded eyes, little to no attention span, nothing like before.

I stopped the dog food, called Purina after reading about problems with their Beneful brand. Told the dog food was made in Lancaster, Pa. and no problems reported by any others. Well reading on here seemed others are having problems. Your choice but I have waved Purina goodbye forever. I love my dog. It would break my heart if Purina was at fault for his illness. Glad I stopped. He now seems fine but we are making our own dog food now, with chicken, and rice we boil.

The only thing I can link this to is the cat food, we recently change to Purina healthy choice indoor cat food. Not saying the food is the cause of 2 of their deaths because I can't afford an autopsy or to have the food check out. Is there any Organization that can help me? I have 4 cats left. I just took the food away from them and will start feeding them something different. Like I said I'm not a vet but something not right and they are dropping like flies. I'm hoping by changing the food it might stop.

Tomorrow I will call a vet because I noticed another kitten acting a little different. I just pray she makes it through the night. This happens quick from when I notice to death maybe 4 to 6 hours. And for those that read this and say take them to the vet, send me the money and I will. I spent a lot on getting their shots and all are spayed and neutered. I cannot afford to take them all to the vet for test, operation, etc. - if I could I would.

Normally, my cat eats 9 Lives -- I consider it to be the cat version of junk food, but he loves it and has been on it for most of his life, and I normally halve it with some more "healthy" cat food, like Iams. About 3 weeks ago, I had to buy Purina Cat Chow because the store was out of his regular food, and it was snowing like a banshee outside. I have a 6.5 year old domestic longhair with a vibrant health history (always a good eater, no GI or UTI issues). Solitary, indoor-only animal, not exposed to other animals, and normally very lively. This past week, he went from eating like a champ to complete lethargy, nauseous, and refusing to eat ANYTHING. He was running a fever, so I took him to the vet immediately, as there was a little clear discharge from his eye and nose. He has now been at the vet on IV, steroids for almost a week, and he all of a sudden seems to have IBD or some other gastro-intestinal issue and is being given appetite stimulants to eat...

We are talking about a cat who had throat surgery when he was a kitten and the first thing he did when he came out of anesthesia was eat, so my vet is finding this situation quite alarming and perplexing as there are no dental issues, no masses in the GI tract, no obvious lesions showing in the tests, and all other things seem to be ruled out so far, one by one. The only thing I can wonder is if it was the cat food, as no other causes have been found.... I never want to have to go through this again and I am now incredibly hesitant to ever consider Purina products again after this. I didn't even put it together until one of my co-workers told me to check pet food complaints, and sure enough, I found not only this site, but many others where people have indicated that they have recently had a problem after feeding their pets Purina. I can't prove that this is what made my cat suddenly sick, but I have to wonder...
