We fed our dogs Purina Beneful dog food for years because they seem to eat it up real fast so figured it was good for them. After a few years started noticing tumors on all of our dogs. Their health started to compromise and all dogs passed with cancerous tumors. Had our house tested for Radon which came back negative and never used toxic chemicals or flea chemicals on them. They even had filtered water and we're all inside dogs. We only gave them the by law required vaccines. These dogs were not related at all. Never even thought of the dog food that we were feeding our fur babies to be the cause of their tumors and Dx cancer, 1 was even metastatic. My husband and I had dogs our entire life that lived long healthy lives and never had 1 tumor on them. We never even used chemicals on our lawn.

After researching The Purina dog food which was WHAT they ate everyday for years I'm seeing all the lawsuits against them and what they use in their food I can see where their food has the potential to cause cancer. I WILL NEVER EVER GIVE MY DOGS ANY PURINA FOOD AT ALL EVER!!!! I hope that people with pets get this information and switch to healthy dog food, made from companies that care, before it's too late. I am using Zignature dog food currently which my new pets seem to be doing good on and am going to start making my own dog food. Please please research your pet's food. It broke my heart when my pets died from these cancerous tumors. That were Dx cancerous from our vet!

8 months ago I was feeding my dog Purina Home Style Dog Food the small bag. My dog Bella became sick. She stopped eating, became dehydrated and weak. At that time, I took her to the vet. The vet stated that Bella had a strange looking gas pocket inside her. The vet stated that is the first she has ever seen this in a dog before. The vet also stated that Bella's Blood & Liver chart was low on the charts and she was dehydrated. Other than that the vet didn't know what was wrong with Bella. The vet sent her home with us to care for her. Because the vet and us didn't know what could have made her sick we stopped buying Purina Home Style Dog Food. Bella came back to herself. Bella never got sick after that.

Last week, I went to Big R in Michigan City, Indiana and bought a 50 lb. bag of Alpo made by Purina. At that time I had no idea that Purina made Alpo until it was too late. I paid 22 bucks for that bag. At that time I thought for the size & price that's a good deal. Wednesday, Bella became sick. She stopped eating. At that time I didn't think nothing of it. I thought that could be normal. Thursday, Bella started throwing up every time she drunk water. She drunk lots of water but couldn't keep it down. Friday morning, Bella stopped drinking water whatsoever. She became very weak and dehydrated. At the time I had no money to get her into a vet. Every vet wants money first. It's sad how greedy vets can be over money when it comes to a pet's health. A few hours later Bella died. 8 months ago my dog got sick from eating Purina Home Style. 8 months later, now she died from eating Purina Alpo.

Purina needs to step up to the plate and provide Bar codes of all the bad dog food they are selling. All stores should in fact remove Purina off their shelves. My advice to all pet owners is to do not buy anything made by Purina. More people need to be reporting Purina's dog food. It's not just their Purina Beneful brand - it's all their dog food they are making. I hope a attorney contacts me? I would love to see Purina answer to my Bella. She was the best little chihuahua. The sad part is in order for me to go after Purina requires me to dig up Bella's grave to see for fact how she died. I will do what needs to be done. I have the Purina bag, a few samples from the bag, and I have the dog that I feel Purina killed. Add it all up I may have a case.

I fed my 5 cats with Purina Cat Chow for indoor cats and after eating the dry food, they all developed diarrhea and vomiting non-stop. I contacted my vet for a check up who gave me medication, special gastrointestinal dry and wet food which cost me $495.63. I called Purina to report this incident and Nestle Purina did not take this seriously.

After my calling Purina, I discovered that indeed some ingredients DO come to them from CHINA!!! I will discontinue using that product immediately!!!! Why are they using those ingredients???? When will we learn???? No to CHINA "shipped or made!" We must protect our children and our pets and ourselves!! SHAME ON PURINA!!

My cats just started vomiting in the last 2-3 weeks on Purina One Smartblend chicken and turkey cat food. I don't understand. We've never had this problem before. My precious cat Lynx, who was in excellent health, died this morning in my bedroom right in front of my eyes after suffering a brief seizure. Lynx did not have any symptom before collapsing on the floor, urinating and shaking violently for no more than 15 seconds. In checking the internet I came across a review posted Feb 1, 2015 from Perrysburg OH (I live in Frazeyburg, OH) regarding Friskies Ocean Whitefish and Tuna being toxic (batch to be used before Nov 2016). I feed Lynx Friskies "With Tuna & Egg" this morning (Best By: Dec 2016 43641161 L44371059). I don't know if this is just a coincidence or what, but my cat is very dead and I really want answers. Hopefully, if there is a batch of toxic cat food still out there, someone needs to do something.

I fed my dog, Trooper, who was 10+ years old. I gave him Purina One Lamb and Rice. Within 2 weeks, he died. He kept walking into the walls as if he didn't see the wall there. The ER doctor thought he had brain cancer due to the dog food I was giving him. My dog stopped eating and could not drink water, even though he was thirsty. Although, he stayed at ER for two days and rallied. He died in his sleep. The cost of this highly specialized hospitalization cost $1600 and it has been 2 years since his death. I've been paying in payments which has caused me a hardship financially. I didn't see the styrofoam, which was the same red coloring as the lamb bits. There were bits of styrofoam in the bag, instead of bits of lamb.

My Yorkshire terrier's diet was changed, after years of being on a much better dog food. Not by my choice. Shortly after the change, she was throwing up, often had occasional diarrhea. Then a small tumor appeared near one of her nipples. Not thinking it might be the food at this time because Purina surely made a good dog food that could not make dogs... well I thought so at the time. When we took her to the vet, he said it appeared to be "just fatty type cysts that dogs can get." So even though it grew a little, I didn't worry coz the vet should know what he was saying.

Well she was continued on the Purina one lamb and rice for up to almost 1 year. The cysts grew bigger than a thumb, then one night she had seizures all night and until I brought her to the vet. This was the worst day of my life so far. I found out from a different vet, she had breast cancer, it metastases (sp) to her brain. She had cancer in all her body. I had to help my best friend over the rainbow bridge that day. The vet asked what she had been fed. I told her about the change in feed and how in the week she had been different. She stated she had seen other dogs recently on the same food having similar issues. WHAT!

Recently I find out my parents dogs are on this same food, for over 2 years. Their little dogs have the same skin irritations, dull coat, and horrible breath (I forgot to mention above), along with a small tumor on one dog. We are going to take them to the vet next week. I blame Purina and I just can't tell you everything in this small box, but don't feed this crap to your pets. It's awful! I miss my little girl best friend!

My dog began eating Purina Heathy Weight at the age of 5. When he started eating it, he would always throw up. I put him on the food so that he could lose some weight. I thought he was throwing up because he was eating too fast. Eventually he adjusted to the food. A couple years later, during routine yearly blood work, it came back that my dog's liver values were increasing beyond what was normal. Justus ate the food for approximately 5 years. Each year his liver values increased more and more. Approximately a year and a half ago I switched my dog to another food after reading the reviews about how Healthy Weight is causing liver issues with other dogs. My dog is now on a daily pill that he takes in order to combat his failing liver. The damage has been done, and I am furious to find out that Purina has been using a controversial ingredient in many of their dog food varieties.

Today has been a bad day, my kids are devastated. They want to know why Sheba died. Well I don’t know. Sheba was healthy. She was fine at 7am when I fed her half can of soft food and dry Purina. She went to the back room like always to take a nap. Me and my dad was getting ready to go to the store and that’s when he yelled “Gina oh my god. No. No.” So I ran to the back room, my baby was just laying there, at first I thought she was sleeping, because when Sheba gets done from eating she’s content, and full. But Sheba wasn’t sleeping. Sheba died. I will never get this vision out of my head. My baby’s eyes was rolled half way to the back of her head, she was so stiff, but her body was still warm. This hurts so bad.

My kids are so devastated and they keep asking me why DID Sheba die mom, but I can’t give my kids a answer because I don’t know. All I know is Sheba was healthy, and Sheba was fine and was walking around after she got done eating around 7:30. And like any other day, Sheba went to the back room to sleep. I don’t understand why, so I will warn everybody. Don’t feed your pets any Purina foods. Don’t become one of us. You don’t want your children going through any of it. My kids are so hurt. Why does my kids have to go through this. They recently lost their grandma, and now their cat. My kids grew up with Sheba.

My kids keep asking me why DID she die. What do I tell my kids? I don’t want to hurt my kids anymore than what they are, so this needs to be fixed so this doesn’t happen to anymore kids. Please fix this and I mean asap. Don’t let anymore pets suffer. Please do something, asap. Our pets don’t deserve to die. You murder my cat, and you are murdering other people’s pets too. God please do something. Hate all of these. Pets die. Somebody needs all of this. Nobody else needs to go through this like my kids DID so fix it!!! Sheba was warm and stiff why.

My cat Mercy 17 year old was feed Purina cat chow for her entire life, indoor cat healthy except for hairball vomiting so I thought, and occasional diarrhea. One day I noted her stool was liquid frank red blood. Otherwise she seemed ok, but just weeks earlier I had to take her to the vet for seizures, dehydration, renal failure and unexplained acute blindness. The vet didn't give her a good prognosis to recover. Me being a ICU RN and stubborn, spent 3 grand and insisted that they do everything they could and she spent 8 days in the hospital, then still on fluids and still blind I brought her home with an IV to continue her on fluids and anti-seizure meds and purchased a baby crib to keep her in so she could walk around without walking into walls and furniture since she couldn't see.

After about a week or so she regained her vision and her seizures stopped, and I took her back to the vet for a follow up. The vet said she was a miracle cat to recover as she did. I still didn't put two and two together. Like I said before a few weeks went by and then the bloody stool began, by that time I had no money to take her back to the vet, and had to make the hardest decision of my life and put her down. I still regret it today; she still visits me in my dreams from time to time. I promised her I would never leave her and I broke that promise to her when I took her in to be put down.

Now I know it was the diet I had her on. I also had another cat who suddenly die at age 3 on the same diet, indoor too, the vet said he had a bowel blockage and it was complicated by probably some form of poisoning? But how, I never figured it out until now, he too ate the same food. Now, I have a cat indoor, who has been eating Purina cat chow complete dry food, she has this 24/7 and I give her a tablespoon of Friskies savory shreds as a soft treat every night at 8pm, and have noticed that she has been having some strange things going on like, vomiting frothy like vomitus, and has been having facial twitching. Also, in the last couple of weeks she has been sneezing a lot and I noticed that she has had blood coming out of her right nares twice, at first I thought it may had been due to her running into the window or something but I'm not so sure now.

I saw another review about someone reporting some problem with can Friskies to the FDA and they told that person to NOT feed their cat any food with the last 4 numbers on the bottom of the can that read (1159). And guess what, all of my wet can are 1159! And my dry food as stated before is Purina Cat chow complete. I'm freaked out, and I'm wondering if the FDA is being paid to keep these products on the shelves or what? But I won’t use anything by Purina or Nestle again I can guarantee that, no matter what it is cat food or human products!!!! I will keep all the can and dry food in my possession for proof if a class action suit is filed in the future, because this has to stop!!!!

Early November, I noticed Purina Beneful on sale at my local supermarket. It seemed like a better alternative and advertised itself as a healthy dog food. I purchased 2 different types as they were on bogo sale. The Incredibites brand and another mix variety I can't recall. About a week after I exposed my dog to this food, she became so sick. She was throwing up everything, even liquid she didn't have in her. She became dehydrated and lethargic and was near death. Between 2 vet visits in the course of 3 days, I did some research on my own and discovered food allergies in dogs. I immediately went out and purchased wet and dry pedigree (our normal brand).

The whole time she was sick, she wanted to eat the Beneful food because she was starving but would turn away from it, I know now she even knew it wasn't good for her. When I returned home with the pedigree, she ate like she had never ate before. She was still weak and a little disoriented but she began to make a full recovery after about a week of being away from the Beneful.

I have tried contacting Purina, and they just delete my comments and refuse to address the situation. I still have the Beneful in storage containers as I planned to donate it (I don't like wasting anything) but now that I know it's toxic poison, I wouldn't feed it to any animal. I am also responsible for a 400 dollar vet bill that will take me quite some time to pay off. What a disgrace this company is. First, selling this garbage, but also not taking responsibility for their actions.

I realize that "Beyond" is not the latest recall in the news from Purina, but it's a bit distasteful as this was recalled within the past few months and you are once again on the recall list for deadly chemicals and related deaths in another line of your brand. My veterinarian has reviewed the ingredients and I can't believe that anyone with knowledge of what they are would feed this to their dogs. I am appalled that I received this and wish to be taken off of your mailing list.

I was feeding all 3 of my dogs this food and they all loved it. My 6 lb Pomeranian stopped eating very well but I did not notice or take it too seriously. She had hurt her leg and was limping so I took her to my vet and they said she needed to have surgery on it. The vet at that time was Care at the Courtyard vet. The cost that they quoted me was pretty high so I went to another vet for a second opinion. I went to Lone Oak Veterinary hospital. They were going to be cheaper so I scheduled the appointment for the surgery. The day of the surgery I had taken her in and once I got home I soon had a call from the vet telling me her liver count was way high. Well no surgery but treatment for the liver problem.

After a couple of months of treatment including special food for dogs with liver problems, she was back to normal liver count. So as I had run out of the special food I let her start eating the Purina healthy weight dog food again. When I went back for a final check, the liver count was back up real high. Right away put her back on the special food and after a week her liver count was back to normal. The only thing I did that was different from her treatment was take her off the Purina healthy weight dog food, and then she was okay again. It had to be the dog food. I immediately took all 3 of my dogs off the Purina food.

I took her to the vet and they said she had a bacterial infection and put her on antibiotics.

In the past 2 weeks my 5 year old Persian started doing the exact same thing so I took her to the vet. She was very dehydrated and they gave her fluids and antibiotics. She was feeling a bit better. Then she started to vomit blood. Took her to the vet again. After doing some research on food I came across all the complaints. I stopped all Purina products. On January 31, 2015 I bought Purina One Active Maturity cat food. I was thought since both of my cats were over 7 that this might be a good food to feed them. I switched from IAMS. I had a healthy and active vibrant cat who drastically lost weight - in less than 30 days she was gone. I noticed she had lost weight a week before she died and had planned to take her to vet but she died before I could get her there. This cat was full of life and vigor and was strong and active, sure she was 12 but she was HEALTHY. I also noticed my 7 year old cat was losing weight but she had a few pounds to spare so I did not think anything of it.

My cat died on Monday morning 23 days after eating the cat food. There is no explanation for what could have happened to her. The morning she died for whatever reason I Googled Purina One linked to cat deaths and I found this site here. I was very upset so I emailed the company. They had a lady call and tell me nothing was wrong with their product and because I didn't want to argue I let her talk to me in her condescending way. She said that since I don't have the bag and only the receipt they couldn't research my claim and then she asked me what they could do to make me happy. I told her she can't give me my cat back and that I think they have the social and moral responsibility to take a look at their products and she claimed my complaint doesn't fall on deaf ears. Our cat is gone but she is not forgotten and we are haunted by the notion that we paid for the cat food that we feel within our hearts killed our cat.

We have cats at home, as well as take care of stray cat colonies (TNR) in our community. For our colonies, we use cheap brands such as Friskies to be able to afford to keep the kitties fed and "healthy". I have a male cat, 7 years old, formerly a street cat, who loves Friskies dry food. We would always let him eat a bit when we prepare the food for our stray colonies, but we try to keep it to a minimum because over the past two years, he would throw up each and every kibble that was not a better quality brand.

We thought it might have been a food allergy or maybe he was eating too fast - bottom line, we didn't think much of it till January 30, 2015. My husband let our cats "steal" some Friskies snacks, including our male cat. As usual, the vomiting followed, but instead of one pile, there were more. Later, we would discover similar vomit piles at our stray cat colony fed from the same batch of dry kibbles. There was also diarrhea of a darker color. My cat would not eat that night.

The following day, my cat was hiding, he seemed spaced out, he was not himself. He stared at the wall, wide eyed, following things that just weren't there. He would not eat, but he would try to drink water - nonstop. The emphasis on "trying", cause at time he would only hover over the bowl till his chin dipped into the water. Something was up. Naturally, we thought of a urinary tract issue and we took him to the emergency vet. The bladder was empty and seemed alright. Blood work seemed still alright with a few things not pointing into any particular direction such as pancreatitis and so on. The Total Bilirubin was elevated (1.9, normal 0-0.9) and so was the Glucose. The vet noticed that my cat seemed to have abdominal pain. X-rays were normal.

We got something for inflammation and nausea and were send home for the time being. The following day, he still wouldn't eat although we bought and opened up any cat food we could find in the stores (Oh the irony when he vet suggested to let him eat the cheap stuff if he likes it so much so that he gets the calories from it). We had to start force-feeding, but it was not enough. Jaundice set in. First day of February, we were back at the vet. This time, he had developed a high fever, 104.6. He got antibiotics, vitamins, appetite stimulants and so on. The white of his eyes started to yellow. Our vet was speechless. He has been treating our cat for many years now and he could not explain what was going on.

Did he eat something weird? Something poisonous? I didn't think so, just cat food. He is indoor only. See, when large cats lose appetite for whatever reason, if they don't eat, the liver starts to fail doing its job. We force-fed him with Royal Canin Babycat or Recovery (both are high in calories) as well as with a Calorie Booster. At day three of total loss of appetite, he was scheduled for a feeding tube. All night long, we tried relentlessly to get food into him to avoid the procedure. Then, thank lord, somewhere early in the morning, he walked to his food bowl and started to eat. Recovery was slow and but he seems to be doing fine now.

I thought I would lose my cat. You see, I am not that kind person jumping to conclusions. Anything could have caused whatever was going on with my cat. I buy high quality food for my cats because I am suspicious of the many "ingredients and supplements" of cheap brands that buy their goods from Asian countries with laughable laws in regards to the environment, safety and any other health concern. Yet, I find it highly suspicious of reading very similar stories of pets that are lethargic, feverish, vomit, and have diarrhea after eating Purina Pet food. Pets that are in need of emergency care after a meal. We will no longer buy any Purina pet food product (not even for the TNR projects), till this will be sorted out in the lawsuit.

I have a jack russel-pug and chihuahua and have been feeding them Purina One lamb and rice for several years. The jack pug mix has some stomach issues or so I thought. For a few years, at least 3x a week she will come out in the morning for her food, walk over to the dish, smell it and walk away. She will eat later in the evening on these occasions but she usually throws the food back up shortly after she eats it. On these occasions she has trouble going to the bathroom.

A little over a year ago she had some instances of blood in her stool (each time a 500 vet bill with no conclusion). A few months ago she had a seizure, my husband had to carry her in from her walk. She could not control her limbs. The chihuahua has some food issues every 6 weeks or so, where he won't eat (and he is a CHOW hound) and when he does he will throw up after eating. The jack mix is 9 years old and has suffered 3 terrifying seizures,. The vet told us it is rare for dogs to start having seizures at her age.

Once the Beneful stories started to circulate I decided to switch to a different food on the off chance it might be the food! All I can say is I switched to a brand by Rachael Ray (the main reason I choose it was because it only lists 6 ingredients, no by-products, filler, soy, corn or wheat.) She runs to her dish in the morning (she has not done this since she was a puppy) - she eats all her food every morning, her bowel movements are normal and she has not thrown up in 2 weeks. I feel guilty for not figuring this out sooner. I trusted Purina but then again I used to trust human food too. Bottom line shame on big business period, after all they feed us poison why should I expect better for our pets!

I think these food manufacturers should be investigated as the "FOOD" our pets are expected to consume is appalling and I am not the only one as I have spoken to other pet owners who has had the same experience. In the past week I have noticed that he has lost weight & losing a lot of hair & drinks water quite often.

I planned on taking him to the vet however in the meantime I switched him over to the wet Friskies Shreds with gravy that we give to another of our cats that has issues when he eats dry food & in the past 2 days he has not vomited & his stool is starting to firm up & I've begun to wonder if it is the food & found this tonight as I was searching after hearing the Beneful Dog food issues.

I've read these complaints from other owners posted in just the last month. The Symptoms are all related. The symptoms include: loose bowel movements, lethargy, really smelly bowel movements, increased thirst, vomiting. I will be taking him to the vet to get checked out regardless. By the way the other cat that has been on the wet food for over a year- refuses to eat the Beef - which is probably a good thing. I am praying our Lucky will recover from this :( Please let me know what foods you have switched to that are not overly expensive. The Cat Chow complete bags I have has an exp. date of July 2016.

I just read about the class action suit relating to the death of about 4,000 dogs that may be related to the Purina brand Beneful dog food. It may be related to some mold toxins according to the article and is extremely concerning to me due to some issues I had last summer that I feel are related to the Purina One Urinary Tract Health food I had been using for years. I even contacted Purina to see if they had changed their formula and was told they had not. However, now I am questioning the issue again.

My male cat, aged 14, began to experience severe diarrhea problems like never before. I had been using the dry food for about 10 years due to urinary tract issues he has suffered since that time and per recommendation of our regular veterinarian. He was lethargic, was vomiting (he had this issue before as well), and just not behaving right. I finally took him to the vet and, even with medication, the issues did not resolve. We then had blood tests with nothing unusual. The vet then recommended an ultra sound diagnosing possible intestinal issues. The ultra sound found polyps in his intestine and surgery was performed. He is now on steroids for the rest of his life and Hills Science Diet CD wet and dry food. He is fine now.

At the same time, my 15 year old female cat began to get lethargic and would not eat, barely taking water. Her back legs would give out and I would have to take her to the water bowl. After two days of this, over a weekend, I took her in to the vet. She died that day. We attributed it to her age but now I wonder. This happened so quickly and she was fine prior to that. I am sick that it might be the Purina food that both cats ate and am glad I no longer use it. I am seriously questioning Purina's response that the food formula had not changed or that there were toxins in that food.

In 2003 we bought a male Golden Retriever pup from a reputable breeder in Penetang, Ontario. Three months later we rescued a female Portuguese Water dog/Wheaten terrier mix from our local SPCA, about 200 miles from the Golden breeder. Obviously neither of these dogs were blood related. We fed them Beneful for months. The Golden began to have recurring ear infections and skin problems. The terrier followed shortly behind with the same problems. The only thing these dogs had in common was eating Beneful dog food!

The vet diagnosed both dogs with a protein allergy. This began a life-long treatment with ear drops and allergy pills to reduce the itch and redness in their skin. It looked almost like an adult human eczema, for lack of a better description. Shortly after that our Golden was diagnosed with epilepsy, and began a life-long treatment of phenobarbital. The Golden passed away a year ago at 10.5 years of age.

The terrier still, at 11 years of age, suffers from ear infections, a skin condition and protein allergies which I fully believe were brought on by Beneful dog food! How in the world, otherwise, would 2 healthy pups from 2 totally separate pedigrees, but brought up on the same food, suffer protein allergies with ear infections and skin conditions? Beneful did this to my dogs!

I am disgusted. I bought a 40 lb bag of Purina Beneful; Healthy Weight on February 9th from Walmart in Whitsett, NC. That night the vomiting and explosive diarrhea started. It continued for the next several days. The next couple of days my German Shepherd refused to touch the food. I think she only started eating it again because she got really hungry. Since the 9th, my dogs have started to act weird and funny. They are using the bathroom constantly in the house, something they never did before. It's like they cannot control their bowel movements. They shake for no reason, and their hair is starting to take on a dull look. They are puking up yellow acid looking stuff now.

If you value your dog's life, you will get rid of whatever dog food you have left of this type, and buy a different brand. I will NEVER use this brand again, and have already started to spread the word on social media what this dog food has done and is doing to my dogs!

This stuff is clearly dangerous for the animals and the company should be ashamed. Taken off of the market, really. Won't ever be buying from them again. I now have a giant bag to throw out now that it has been confirmed that many dogs have met their death with this product. Not cool.

My dog had been on Beneful for a long time because we trusted that Purina was making a safe product. Meg started throwing up, but we did not suspect the food. We bought a divided dish and that seemed to diminish the problem until the end of January when the vomiting became worse. I found this website and immediately stopped giving her any Purina product, but it was too late. She started vomiting continuously so we took her to the vet and he diagnosed Pancreatitis. The next 21 days were a combination of good days and bad days culminating in kidney and liver failure, negligible blood count, and total lethargy. The vet attempted to give her treatments to pull her out of it, and just when we thought she was turning around, she passed away. The vet bill came to over $1600., but the loss of our pet is incalculable. I am more upset that her death may have been hastened because of the food that I had given her.

My Lab/Pit mix has been in and out of the vet due to defecating and vomiting blood!!! Bright red, scared me to death, thought he was hemorrhaging inside - blood! Vet says his renal system is fine. My Border Collie is vomiting all the time and has lost weight. Both have developed bald spots on their fur I thought was "hot spots" even though they have NEVER in either of their lives had "hot spots". Their fur was falling out in bloody clumps! Vet tested negative for any parasite or bacterial infections.

I never dreamed it might be the food because I've fed them this same kind since they were puppies!!!! I had to stop all food I take for over 24 hours and feed them strictly rice, plain yogurt and boiled chicken for a whole week (!) just to get their stomachs to be able to tolerate food again. Now we are on Natural Balance food and they are normal, happy, healthy dogs. Fur is growing back. No more vomiting or defecating blood.

She had a bleeding abdominal tumor! I talked to several other people, & their cats died of the same thing & they fed their cats the same food! I blame Purina for my beloved cats death. Kitties like this. This is first and only, so far, no-grain kibble they've had. Reasonably priced for a no-grain feline granola. I'm wondering who out here in cyberland has experience, pro and con with this particular formula of Purina? Would appreciate hearing from you. P.S: kitties have not had any problems with this kibble. I do maintain fresh, filtered water of one bowl per 2 kitties and also, each kitty is served, literally, 1/2 to 1 can of wet food, no-grain formula daily. So, they do have choices. Sometimes, the kibble is the only choice of the day for this one or that one. Sometimes, a bit of each is consumed by each of them. Just never know.

I have one kitty that only eats the no-grain wet when his body is demanding he supplement his exclusive kibble diet, so every few days. He is the pride's hunter and only recently has the pride - had to be limited to a large enclosure for their outdoor time due to moving into a new environment with closer neighbors and streets, as well as from lowlands, with lots of humidity to high desert. All of these changes require much more attentiveness to their food & drink. Totally worth it!

Recently I have had cats throwing up immediately after eating. The sicknesses that have followed are that 1 cat was so gravely ill I was told she had no immune system, high fever, and in serious condition. The vet bill for her totaled hundreds of dollars. The next cat ended up with an infection or virus of unknown cause, he cost over 1,000 dollars in vet bills. I was told he had UTI and crystals along with gritty sand in his bladder that ended up blocked. Another cat felt under the weather with vomiting and fever. I have another who refuses to eat the Friskies and is looking ill.

I will try different food and get her to the vet now. Of all 10 cats inside and 8 feral outside....none finish the Friskies anymore and all vomit after eating small portions. After reading the comments posted, I now know the root cause is the food.

The two 7 year old cats have never been given cat treats only dry food and they have never experienced any problems. The two 16 year old cats have been eating Purina products for the past 14 years. These 2 cats have also been given Whisker Lickin's cat treats nearly every day for the past 12 years and they love them to be quite honest. Every afternoon they will guide me to the kitchen where I store the bag of treats letting me know they want their daily treat!! LOL.

Well most recently, I would say for the past month one of my cats has lost a considerable amount of weight and started to develop runny stools while the other cat was having some blood in his stools and let me tell you the smell is the worst ever!! Now thinking back to when this started a month ago, I had opened this new bag of cat treats which is the big bag and lasts for quite a while. I wasn't thinking a whole lot about it since these two cats are seniors and I was thinking that maybe they are just starting to deteriorate due to their age. I stopped giving them the cat treats on Monday and both cats stools are nearly back to normal, so that leads me to believe that something in the cat treats was causing my 2 elder cats to be sick. I am not positive about this to be fact but it is a very odd coincidence. I looked for product recalls and found none.

Purina cat chow complete blue bag - I've always bought this specific kind for approximately 12 years, all my cats have always enjoyed this product. They would only eat this kind in particular, absolutely loved it for years. All I ever bought, would change it once in a while for a change of pace but my cats would always turn their nose up at other brands. The price never bothered me, it's a quality product, I'd swear by it.

But up until about a year or more maybe less, you've changed it with extra kibble in it. Now I'm having a hell of a time getting them to eat it again. They won't touch it now if barely, they pick out the new pieces and push out of dish or just will only eat bits of it. I can't get to eat it, they now turn their noses up at it. Why did you change it!? I'm having a hell of a time to get them to eat anything else.

I know they get bored with certain kinds after a while, I'd understand that but it's ridiculous. Not sure if the new blend changed the original flavor, but I've gone through so many different kinds, makes and such that not many compare to your original. I've finally found one blends at target, that's about the same shapes and possible taste but it's not always available, hard to find in larger bags, can only find 3 # bags.

I truly wish you didn't change your product. It's put thru such a run around and bags of uneatened bags of food. I had to give away or throw out, it's too expensive, not satisfied to say the least. Won't be buying your products much anymore for a while, and just so you know they won't eat any other formula especially the indoor kind, makes my cats throw up. I've tried, I just wish you'd stick with the original instead of trying to make it "even better"! Should've just left it alone! As they say "don't fix it if it ain't broke!" Wow. First, my heart and sympathy goes out to everyone who has lost a loved one or has dealt with any unfortunate health complications that may have been or was a direct result of tainted or substandard food and or negligence. I'll get to the point then my rant. Use Purina Foods for many years, pets have live long healthy lives. However, things have have come in to question over the last 3 to 4 years it seems. As of lately, two beautiful healthy kittens male and female Maine Coon mix just over a year old now. Have been feeding Beyond Natural and our female has vomited once in a while, say every couple of weeks or so. Chalked it up to eating too fast. Two days ago, she started just sitting in the bedroom kind of spaced out, not like her at all. Next day, same thing. Otherwise seemed "OK."

Today I noticed her face and head seemed swollen and more lethargic. Vomiting, light fever, and way out of it. Thought maybe she got stung or possible insect bite. However, no signs of injury that I could see. Started questioning the food after considering if any toxic substances where accessible. I hate (and I don't use that word lightly) these ** greedy corporations who will in my opinion, based on research, facts, and experience, anything for their bottom line. This, combined with what used to be our government in collusion with the corporations slanging pesticide laden toxic "foods" to us humans as well as our pets. This is not slander only, fact roundup is a pesticide and is toxic. Tip of the spear.

Reading these post is heartbreaking as well as how much I can't trust these companies and "it's probably the food." We like a lot of people when out a bought another bag, feel stupid just saying that. However, I am human and it is in our nature to want to trust others right? These corporations are not others though. Cat seems to be over the hump, still in bed. I trust in the universe night will bless us with sleep and dawn will bring a new day. I will not update if things improve.

Two years ago, I lost my best friend, a malamute X German Shepherd. She went from a healthy, beautiful dog who was never sick, to skin and bones within a two weeks. There were two 8 week old kittens in the house at the same time. They were healthy kittens, very smart. Sheba, the dog we lost, always ate Pedigree, but she enjoyed the taste Alpo cookout classics. She loved it. So from time to time we would switch it up and give her Alpo as treat. Then she got sick. She was vomiting a clear mucus like substance, and having runny stool. She was 13 years old so we attributed it to her getting old, never really thought much of it. She seemed to be fine. She was her normal happy self. Then about 3 days later, she wouldn't eat anything. We tried all her favorite food, nothing, not a mouthful. She became emaciated very fast. Within a day, she couldn't walk on her own, her legs gave out completely. Within a couple days her organs shut down, she was just a shell.

While all this was going on, the two kittens died, they showed symptoms one day, the next, gone. Then the dog died. It all happened so fast. We didn't really have time to think. We figured it must have been Parvo because the symptoms fit so well. Never once did I think it was the food. Fast forward, 3 days ago, our 1 year old lab X boxer started having very runny stool, and vomiting. He, like Sheba, ate pedigree but liked Alpo. So trusting the Purina brand we would give it to him as a treat. Immediately after he started eating this bag, Alpo ranch house cookout classics, he had diarrhea. Then I started to put it all together. Sheba was eating the same type of Alpo when she got sick, and the kittens used to get into her dog food all the time. So I started researching, and simple Google search later, I found 1000's of cases just like ours. I was floored!

Losing Sheba was one of the worst times of my life, and today I'm living it all over again. I switched Hunter, the lab/boxer to boiled chicken and white rice today, and he instantly started to get better. I'm so heart broken, and all Purina did was offer me a coupon to recoup my losses. My losses are far greater than any monetary value, I lost my best friend. Not only did I lose her, but I unknowingly poisoned her to death. I have been commenting on their Facebook page and they keep removing my post. I feel disgusted and betrayed! How are they getting away with this?!?

At the same time, I noticed my male eating and throwing up… A LOT. I have noticed it in certain canned Purina. Today I called the KC branch of the FDA and left a message. I was called back immediately and spoke with someone named Star. She asked me for the UPC's and the numbers on the bottom. I only had 4 cans still in my trash. Within 20 minutes she called me back again and told me to NOT FEED my cats any food with the last 4 numbers of 1159.

She explained it was all from one factory. She then instructed me to keep the food until I heard back from her, that the FDA may want to pick it up for testing. I was told that there had been several reports like mine and worse. She was a cat person herself. She explained that she did not want me to send a complaint to Purina, to let her handle it and she told me not to return it to the store because without a recall it would go right back into the stream of commerce and more animals would get sick. She also told me it was dog food and cat food and it was distributed from this plant nationwide.

So after work I start researching this issue only to find that the FDA knew of problems back in Sept and had issued a warning this month to the plant #1159. So the Representative who talked to you lied. They know there is a problem. WHY has there not been a recall? Why is Purina and the FDA allowing our pets to be further poisoned??

One of my cats has lost a couple of pounds and become somewhat lethargic. The other has also lost some weight because he will only eat the dry (non-Purina) food to feed his basic hunger after he's consumed a bit of the Friskies, which he never finishes eating anymore. His personality has also been "off" for the past few weeks, but there has been no blatant sign of serious illness.

But, it is now clear to me that something in the Friskies is different, because neither cat seems to particularly like any flavor when only a few weeks ago they really liked their Friskies. This stuff needs to be pulled off the shelves. And I've got around 40 cans that I will need to throw away.

I have been feeding both of my cats Purina One dry cat food for years. Within the last few weeks I purchased the Purina One Urinary Tract Adult dry food and within less than a few days my oldest cat began throwing up everywhere. On day two, I took him to the vet and she was concerned that he has swallowed something. However, after two more visits to the vet and X-rays, there was nothing in his stomach/system that should have been causing him to get this sick. I put him and my other cat on rice and chicken for a few days after the vet visit and surely enough the vomiting ceased.

The minute I returned the Purina One dry food the vomiting began again. I immediately threw away the contents of the bag and will never be buying this brand of food for my cats again. I have switched them to another brand of food and they have had no further issues. I am very upset at the risk that Purina is putting these animals at. If I had lost my cat, I couldn't imagine what I would do. They really need to have a recall on this food. My cats have never vomited in their lives until they ate this batch of food. How many cats/animals need to die for a recall? I bought this food in Arlington, VA at the Giant grocery store.

Within the last two weeks, my cats are throwing up when I give them the meow mix I bought and they had the runs, and still have diarrhea. I stopped them from having the Meow Mix and the throwing up stopped. I had to take one to the vet and she didn't think it was the Purina pet food but they are not throwing up now, I am feeding them Hills Science Diet. No more purina for my cats.

We have been feeding our 5 cats Purina Cat Chow (dry, original) for years and years. A few months ago they changed their formula. We noticed more vomiting - even from one who didn't vomit previously, but didn't think anything of it since a couple of our cats tend to vomit their food. In December our 14-yr old starting to lose weight and wasn't eating well. We brought him to vet and blood work was normal. His urine came back with high bacteria level and he was put in antibiotic. Note that his urine was collected at home in a non-sterile container (my fault - we do not know if he really had high bacteria level).

Throughout the next few weeks, he worsened - vomited bile, refused to eat completely. We made the hard decision to euthanize him. Forward 3 weeks... our 7-year-old begins to have the same symptoms - refusing to eat, lethargic. Blood work is normal but has 103 degree fever. Put on antibiotics and fluids. We switch food and do whatever we can to get this guy to eat (table food, canned food, chicken broth). He is getting much better. I believe that the new formula of Purina Cat Chow is somehow making cats sick. If you use this brand, stop immediately.

I have been feeding my cats Purina Cat Chow Complete for quite a while, and although they threw up occasionally I wasn't concerned because it's pretty common. Before I left for Christmas vacation for two weeks I couldn't get the Complete, they were out at my local store, so I got the Indoor formula. When I returned home after two weeks, my 3 cats had all lost weight. There was cat vomit everywhere and it was growing a black fungus on it. The fungus on one huge pile was about 6 inches high, black hair with little pods on the ends. It was disgusting. I picked up what I found around the house that was recent and threw it in the trash.

The next day when I put the trash out, what I had picked up when I got home was growing the same fungus and was already about 2 inches long. What on earth is in this stuff? I got another type of Purina cat chow this time and so far they are doing better. If they start this again I will definitely change brands of food and get off Purina. My dog eats Purina One lamb and rice and she is doing fine.

I have 7 cats. 5 adults, 2 kittens about 3 months old. My cats have periodically vomited but it was so distant between each time and shrugged it off as something else. One of our kittens just completely stopped eating about 7 days ago. Just bought the bag of cat food about 10 days ago. He just stopped. He even refused wet canned food. My husband said he's not ever real hungry so just let him be and when he gets hungry, he will eat. 4 days later, he was skin and bones. His bones are sticking out so bad. He stopped drinking water too. No matter what I tried and other foods, he wouldn't do anything. All the while he was vomiting yellow mucus-looking stuff and his bowels were straight liquid also yellow with a mucus look to it. I got so worried I took him to the vet. My vet said he would put him on a general antibiotic for bacterial infection. Come back if he wasn't getting better after the 5th day of the meds.

He was just getting sicker. I made some banana oatmeal and put sugar and milk in it and he walked up to me smelling it. He's had the shakes really bad with weakness and severe pain. I said, "I know you won't eat it but here" and he started licking my spoon. Oatmeal at this point was better than starving to death and he was. He only ate a spoonful that night. 2 the next day. I couldn't figure out what caused him to be so sick. He doesn't ever go outside. 4 days ago, another one of my cats started vomiting all over the place and all day. He has hardly moved. The next day, 2 more of my cats started vomiting. That night, the other kitten was vomiting and his bowels were mucusy and really bad.

I couldn't connect them to the food until yesterday. I realized the only one that aren't sick at all are the 2 adult boys who are always outside until they wanna sleep then they come in. They barely ever eat in here. Usually they eat the food my neighbors leave out which they don't mind. All my other cats are losing weight horribly and quick but the 2 boys they are doubling in size. All of a sudden, it hit me it has to be the food. I'm positive. There is no other reason why my 5 cats would be deathly sick while the 2 boys are fine. The only connection is the food. So I immediately got it out of their bowls and put it away. I kept it though.

My cats have all stopped eating and are refusing anything and not drinking water. They don't drink out of a bowl. They like fresh running water so I leave the bathroom sink dripping and they drink from there. But they were refusing. Today I went and bought some different food - more expensive but it's natural stuff and great quality. I also bought a cat fountain so they didn't have to jump up into the sink. They are so weak and brittle, I'm afraid they will break a bone jumping down wrong. We came home and I opened the food and put it in their dishes and opened a can of wet food also from the pet health store and all of them started eating, even the babies.

Rue is finally getting better slowly and he's dropped 2 pounds. He only weighed 3, he's small. Now the other kitten and my adult cats are getting very, very sick. Shivering and rapid breathing, their eyes are staying open while they sleep and they look dead. Excruciating pain in the belly area. No fever. Vomiting and diarrhea and lethargy with massive weakness. My cats will never eat that food again. I understand food sometimes has a problem but this is 5 cats out of 7 and that's too scary for me and for them. I'm suffering watching them go through this but they are suffering like I've never seen before. I hope this helps someone who is looking for answers. The health store told me all the recent customers that have been coming in all said their cats or dogs are going through the same exact thing. I'm so sorry for anyone's loss. This is not right. Anyone with ideas on what we can do please email me.

I do recall her occasional vomits and obvious poor appetite during the last year of her life!

Yesterday, my 10 year old cat died of a sudden. I do noticed the diarrhea & vomits in the recent years and my cats gets better after their vet prescribe medicine & with a different brand of food for them. Nevertheless, since I have multiple cats, they all ate the same food, I continued to feed them Purina wet/dry food, it seems normal to me that they vomit from time to time! Of course, I only think it's the hairball issue! Now I am really worry, am I slowly killing all my cats because of the Purina food? Oh NO!!

DO NOT TRUST THIS BRAND OF FOOD IT IS NO GOOD. Switched to Purina indoor cat food for my baby kitten and he loved it at first! Then about an hour later I realized he wasn't as jumpy and full of energy as he usually was. He then was throwing up all over the house the next day & didn't eat or drink anything at all. This went on for about 3 days. He was extremely weak and couldn't even stand up or catch himself when trying to get off the bed, he would spazz out and start twitching out of nowhere. Sadly we didn't have money to take him to the vet so we decided to give it another day 'cause we were gonna get money soon. We basically forced water into his mouth to keep him from dehydrating, but he refused to take in anymore food, we even bought him his old brand.

Then on the 4th day he kept crying and couldn't move, he tried getting up and collapsed and stayed there without even blinking. We then rushed him to the vet because it seemed extremely bad at that point & he died on the way. The sad thing is when I announced his death, I had another person tell me that his dog had experienced everything my cat did, then passed AFTER eating Purina for the first time. I'm pretty sure as for the rest of the reviews here...they can say the same thing.

We came home to him slumped in the floor, like he'd been hit by a car... though that wasn't possible since he was an indoor cat. After taking him to the vet, the vet told us he had a massive UTI, caused by his food, PURINA, and it was in his blood stream. His urethra was so full of crystals it was like sand. After the Dr worked on him for hours we thought he would live if he could just make it through the night. Alas, he did not make it, and we are devastated to know we had been slowly poisoning him, along with our other 8 furbabies.

One cat was put on medication...is still trying to recover and the others were put on a prescription diet. Apparently it's worse on male animals than females. After eating this dog food, our Boston Terrier immediately experienced a number of very serious problems including liquid stool and vomiting so bad we almost took her to emergency care shortly before Christmas. She also developed a problem with her hind legs where they would shake uncontrollably causing her to fall mid-walk while her leg just pounded the floor. It was heartbreaking. This same behavior was exhibited one other time, oddly it was again during a time when we had run out of her regular food and had purchased ONE. A year ago our dog had a FCE which is a spinal stroke causing her complete paralysis from the neck down. At that time, she was also on this food. It took us some time to understand what was causing it, if we had known, we would have NEVER have given her more of that food.

Over Christmas break 2014, and after 3-4 days of these leg seizures, we thought maybe it was the food. To our SHOCK, as soon as she was taken off it, within 48 hours, the leg spasms cleared up. I'm now convinced it was due to this food AND worry that the food has something in it that is causing these neurological problems. I've seen several other posts stating the same thing happened to their dogs. If you have experienced this, please, let's try to connect. I am starting a page on Facebook called PurinaHurtMyPet. I'm fairly certain the new Purina Cat Chow - blue bag - killed my cats. We have always fed the same food. Then they switched formulas. Our very first bag of the new formula was purchased about 2 months ago. Within a few days my cat Callie was sick. Started with vomiting, then vomiting bright green bile. Vet had no idea what was causing it. Eventually she quit eating completely and the vomiting stopped. But this was after a couple weeks and the damage was done. She wouldn't eat anything. I had to give her sub q fluids daily and was force feeding her wet cat food. After about a month, her organs were failing and we had to put her to sleep.

Then my other cat, Black. She was 7 years old. We thought at first when she wasn't eating, that she was just depressed. Then she was showing similar symptoms as Callie, and within a week she couldn't breathe - I assume organ failure like Callie - and we had to put her down as well. The ONLY thing that changed was the new formula of cat food. They were both indoor only all of their lives. There was nothing new or dangerous in our house, we have 2 toddlers so there isn't anything they could've gotten into (our house is kid proof so obviously pet proof!). Like I said the vet had no idea. They agreed it started in the stomach, but had no idea with either cat what the cause was. The images below are pictures of the bag that caused the problem. On December 12, I picked up my beautiful, healthy 8-week-old Jack Russell Terrier puppy at the airport. I got her from a reputable breeder in Oklahoma whom I bought a pup from 3 years ago and was so excited to be adding a new baby sister to my pack. She was sent with a large Ziploc bag of Purina Puppy chow from the breeder so that I could gradually change her diet if I chose to do so. She was certified to be in good health by the veterinarian who signed the travel documents. She was very active and happy, a perfect little rascal.

Then, within a few days she stopped eating and became very lethargic. By the next day she was vomiting and had a very dark sticky stool. I called the veterinarian here in Marana and he said to bring her in since her symptoms could have been due to a number of things. When I took her in she was in real bad shape, I wasn't sure she would make it through the day. Since it was during the holidays he gave me some fluids and antibiotic with instructions to treat her at Home. Even though he couldn't say for sure what it was that was making her so sick but the treatment was aimed at preventing dehydration and infection until the vomiting and diarrhea stopped.

She was getting better, very slowly, and began drinking water again after a few days although she was still vomiting clear fluid several times a day and was very weak and was losing weight rapidly. Then she seemed to be improving after about 10 days she stopped vomiting and even got her appetite back enough to eat small amounts of food for about a day. After I thought she was actually slowly recovering, she took a turn for the worse and had frequent bouts of dark black watery diarrhea that continued for about 3 days. She never stopped drinking water on her own even with the subcutaneous fluid injections that I was administering every 4-6 hours. She never ate more than a tablespoon of food even after the diarrhea stopped (stool went back to black and sticky like glue).

She continued to get weaker until on New Year's Eve she couldn't walk more than a few steps without stopping and resting. She became more lethargic and then unresponsive. I was going to take her to the emergency vet clinic when she cried out in terrible pain and laid down with her legs stiff and just staring into space. I held her and wrapped her in a blanket because she was shivering. I told her to keep fighting, that the doctor would make her well again very soon and that I was not going to give up on her because I loved her so much and that she was such a brave little girl. Then my beloved Picabo slipped away and her suffering ended.

Mine has not. I am not sure that I will ever get over the fact that my sweet little puppy's life was gone before she even got to begin her journey to a healthy, happy very much loved member of our family. Now I am going to find out how many of her siblings have also suffered this fate. I am praying that none of them went through the hell I so helplessly witnessed over the last two weeks. If I find out that Purina was responsible, and the information I am receiving is overwhelmingly pointing in that direction, I promise I will take any action necessary to hold them accountable and seek restitution for this preventable, senseless, UNBELIEVABLY, UNBEARABLE LOSS!

In November of this year 2014, every time my cats ate it they began to get sick (vomit) I mean everywhere. I have 5 cats and all of them became sick every time they ate. I returned it to the store and told their manager my warning but he said it would be weeks before they would have any results. Just a warning to others out there.

I recently bought a bag of Purina Little Bites, which I've bought before (I tend to buy different dog foods for variety) and never had a problem with my dog eating it. This time my dog refused to eat it. I mentioned it to my daughter, who also has dogs. She asked if it was Purina. I said yes. It was then that she told me she bought a Purina brand dog food for her dogs too, who also refused to eat it. Something is wrong and our dogs know it! I'm throwing out my bag of Purina Little Bites and buying a dog food made by a different company.

I have been feeding my cats fancy feast for a year along with Purina indoor for 7 years. I just opened a new 16 pound bag of Purina indoor and my 7 year old cat has been vomiting for 4 days. I bought different flavors of friskies indoor last night and sick again this morning. They had been eating fancy feast fish and shrimp feast and savory salmon feast. I purchased 30 cans from Walmart a few weeks ago and they were not eating it like usual. I thought they were bored with the flavors. Apparently they knew something was wrong. After reading all of these posts they will not be getting any more purina. I purchased the food in a Meijer store. I hope Purina is compensating these people for vet bills and the cost of the food. It is so SAD for those who have lost pets!! They cannot be replaced. I would rate my experience with these products in negative stars but the program won't allow me to.

My cats have always eaten Purina Friskies wet cat food the Chicken in gravy Prime Fillets. Three weeks ago I bought 24 cans of this food (probably end of Nov or beginning of Dec 2014. When I opened the can and offered it to all 3 cats they all sniffed it and walked away. I thought that was strange because they only wanted that flavor for the past few years. When I looked at the food later I saw they had eaten some of it so I just thought they were being finicky. Busy holiday season and I really didn't give it a lot of thought but noticed they stopped bugging me to eat.

Now my oldest cat, around 13 or 14, has dropped a lot of weight and her 3rd eye started showing on Christmas Eve, I really thought she's getting old but then noticed my Russian Blue started having gas all the time and seems to be acting sluggish and some diarrhea. The third cat is looking rough and her coat is looking bad. She's not acting normal either. As I noticed all of these issues in the past 24 hrs it made me remember how all of the cats turned away from that food and didn't come to eat as they normally would, I thought maybe there's something wrong with the food. Then I read all of these complaints and now I'm thinking all of my cats are eating poisoned food. My husband died a few months ago and I am going to be furious if Purina kills my cats!!

Have been reading about Purina Cat Chow (healthy weight formula) causing vomiting in cats. Expiration date on bag is Feb. 2016. I also feed him the canned food of Fancy Feast Tuna Primavera with Garden Veggies and Greens. Over the past few days I had to switch him to Fancy Feast Medleys Turkey Florentine with garden greens until I could get his Tuna Primavera. Always serve with the Purina Cat Chow on the side. This morning he woke up vomiting and was very lethargic. Husband rushed him to vet who said that my cat had a slight fever. He gave him some hairball malt and sent him home. After reading the prior posts about the dry cat food I am not going to give him anymore. What alternative dry cat food has anyone tried that seems to not be making the cat's sick? Also, has anyone heard any complaints about the Fancy Feast garden green/green veggie wet food? Have they changed the formula in that as well? I will sue to the fullest extent of the law if my baby dies. Please advise as to what dry/wet food ARE NOT making our fur babies sick.

Our 2 year old female indoor cat has been eating Purina One Smart Blend Indoor Advantage for about 1.5 years with NO issues. Yesterday I bought a new bag of the exact same food from my local Walmart, returned home and filled the cat's bowl around 3:30 pm. Around 10:00 pm our cat began vomiting, a tremendous amount, looked like everything she had eaten in the past few hours had come up, so I removed her food for the night. She slept fine overnight. Around 5:00 am she ate again and within 15 minutes she began vomiting, multiple times until finishing with a few dry heaves. We decided to take her to the vet just to rule out some kind of internal blockage. All diagnostics were normal.

While waiting at the vet's office, my wife and I googled Purina Cat Food issues and to our amazement we found many many reports of the exact same occurrences all over the country. I have also noticed last night and this morning that once she is finished with her vomiting, she seems completely fine; we returned from the vet about 2 hours ago and she seems back to normal.

While I am no expert on food production or quality control, I am a very logical and analytical person and I have deduced through process of elimination that there is absolutely without a doubt something wrong with this batch of cat food. And now after reading about so many of the exact same occurrences for years all over the country, we will be looking for a new brand of cat food.

I have been feeding my cats Fancy Feast as well as Purina Naturals. Both would not feel well with the Beef Flavor Fancy Feast. We changed to mostly Salmon which they seem to enjoy. My two year old started having grand mal seizures which I was told was very rare. We went through a series of tests and the only thing left pretty much was an MRI which was around 2k. After listening to a specialist who mentioned that a lot of research was being done on nutrition and its effect on seizures, I started researching and discovered that my two year old cats bursts of spastic activity and/or the invisible bugs he was going after were actually a mild seizure or pre grand mal seizure. Thunder would get in the state especially after eating the Fancy Feast Salmon.

We stopped feeding them Fancy Feast and his horrific seizures stopped. We no longer have a crazy hyper cat - it has been approximately 6 weeks. We always knew he was incredibly sweet and loving but in my opinion this food not only caused him seizures but altered most of his personality. When I thought it through we would only feed Thunder a quarter of a small can along with the dry - when we adopted a stray I increased the amount to a half a can twice daily because that was what the other two had. With the increase in food the frequency of his seizures increased as well. They were horrible and traumatic for him and for us. We are so glad we figured it out and were able to help him before it was too late.

I am so sorry for those who have lost their beloved furry family member and I hope this helps someone save their pets life. I found another site which a person who lost her cat said she read the nitrates contained in Fancy Feast and other food could possibly be the culprit. My pets will be taken off of all Purina products as I feel the company is missing something major in its willingness to protect our beloved family members. Thank you.

A little over a month ago we went to Texas for the weekend (Friday to Monday). I knew the cats could take care of themselves if I left enough food and water for them. I had just bought a new bag of Purina Cat Chow Complete which I have been feeding them since they got grown. (I fed them Purina Kitten Chow when they were little). So I always have fed them Purina with no problems. I won't go into detail about what we found when we got home but let's just say it was all over the house and required A LOT of cleanup. It wasn't long till I knew it was Sweet Pea who was the sick one.

I started researching the Internet to try and determine what might be the cause. Since this was the only symptom she had and it was only after she ate, I ruled out anything disease related and began leaning toward a food allergy. So I changed their food to Meow Mix. She still would get sick after eating but had less frequent episodes. After reading comments on the internet about how dry food may cause this symptom, especially if the cat does not drink enough water, I decided to try canned food. Bingo, no more symptoms. Problem is you can't leave canned food out for a weekend away.

So I researched what dry food would be best for sensitive stomachs and got an automatic feeder to provide smaller portions over longer intervals hoping that this would still resolve the sickness issue and still allow me to leave them for a few days. Lots of comments said Purina One Smart Blend for Sensitive Systems was good. So I got a bag of it and filled up the auto feeder. I fed them a small amount of canned food and set the feeder to drop a small portion of the new food later. Canned food stayed down great. Feeder drops new dry food later, Sweet Pea eats a little, BAM, Sick again. The confusing thing was that only Sweat Pea was getting sick. Baby Doll was eating the same thing with no problems.

So last night I eliminated ALL dry food and ALL food for 12 hours. I decided to give each of them a SMALL amount of wet canned food and see how things went. No problems. A few hours later, a SMALL amount of wet canned food again. No problems. Again a few more hours later. No problems. So here I am this evening really starting to wonder why this happens only with the dry food and only with Sweet Pea. So I Google fed cat wet food no more vomiting. Here's what came up: https://www.consumeraffairs.com/pets/ralston.html. So that's the problem. One after another after another of comments as recent as this week of people who have been feeding their cats (and dogs) Purina for years with no problems suddenly having terrible reactions in their pets, some even dying in a matter of hours. And for those with multiple cats, sometimes all were affected and sometimes only some or even one was.

As I read on, I found that Purina recently changed their formula and that, just like me, when people bought a new bag with expiration dates of 2016 containing the new formula instead of the older formula with expiration dates of 2015, that's when the sudden onset of sickness began. So it is a PURINA problem not a dry food problem. My original Cat Chow Complete I had fed them for years was changed and the problems began when I bought a new bag with the new formula. And, of course, the symptoms started again when I fed them PURINA ONE, which probably also contains the new formula. But it appears that this is not just a PURINA thing. There is another complaint page listing the same problems happening just recently with Hills Science Diet, even the prescription only food. https://www.consumeraffairs.com/pets/science_diet.html.

So my plan for now is to feed only wet food in small amounts several times a day since this appears to be agreeing with both of them and they are happy campers again. I am almost tempted to call the news channel and show them these sites and share my story so that others will be aware and not needlessly make their pet sick or worse. But for now I'm sharing with you guys so that if your pet starts to suddenly exhibit these symptoms, you'll know what may be the cause. Hopefully, my little Petey hasn't sustained any permanent damage and hopefully whatever is in this NEW formula will be exposed and removed before any more of our furry family members have to suffer and/or die.

Have been feeding my 2 cats Purina 1 products for a long time. They have always been "pukers" as cats can be but things got serious when Country Max was out of the usual dry food I get for them in October, so I bought Purina "Complete." They are litter mates; 13 years old, so yes, they are/were seniors. Anyway, they loved this new food, chowed it down, whatever they make it with. They loved this stuff. After a few weeks, they really started puking, particularly the smaller guy. He became lethargic; just not himself at all. Took him to the vets and when she came in with the lab results, the only advice they could give me was euthanasia. His kidneys shut down completely; couldn't even quantify some of the lab values because they were so high. In all fairness, he probably already had a chronic kidney problem. Pissed a lot and drank a lot of water; I thought that was good, (good for humans) but for cats, just the opposite. Too late now. I tried to keep him comfortable, but in a couple of days, it was clear who was being the "pussy" because who wants to give up on a pet they love.... But, he was a zombie... And so I just had bite it and put him to sleep.

Two weeks later, his brother stopped eating and drinking. Diagnosed with pancreatitis. So far, I've managed to keep this guy alive with subcutaneous fluids, a myriad of pills, and keeping fingers crossed. He is actually eating a bit now. He lost about 2 pounds, not good. Who knows, maybe he'll be alright. I mentioned the food change to the vet and they didn't seem alarmed, but I got rid of the bag just the same. Bought some IAMS. Then I found this blog. Just be careful all of you; I know a lot people that feed their dogs and cats Purina products all the time with no problems, but you'll see that a lot of the complaints in this blog are very recent and concern both dogs and cats. Just be careful.

I AM OUTRAGED!!! After buying a box of Deli Cat on Saturday, November 29, 2014 from Family Dollar and a bag of Kit & Kaboodle on Sunday, November 30, 2014 - all five of my cats began vomiting culminating in my researching for a recall. I see now that other cats have recently died. My five cats were healthy ranging in age from 5-16 years old. I have trusted Purina Cat foods for over 40 years and never have had this grave of an issue. If any of my cats die, I will be suing the company. I have already contacted an attorney. My 4 cats have been on Purina Pro Finesse Chicken and Liver canned food for years. Over Thanksgiving, one of them got sick and was vomiting. She also stopped eating. Then 2 more got sick, vomited and wouldn't eat or drink. 2 are slowly making a comeback, so far but the first one that got sick is getting worse and is in the hospital as I write this getting IV fluids. She is only 4 years old. Praying she makes it as she is the sweetest cat I've ever had. The food is the only thing they have all had that was a common element and after reading the other comments, I feel certain it is the food that is killing my baby.

Our cats have always eaten Purina Indoor Formula until now. Last week when I opened the new bag, they acted like they didn't like it but they did eat it. Within days of beginning to eat the food they became violently sick - projectile vomit, bloody diarrhea. Monday after work 2 of our cats were very unresponsive so we took them to Long Beach Animal Hospital. Unfortunately we could not afford tests done and they did not tell us of the care credit option. We brought them home after they had received subcutaneous fluids and medications to stop the vomiting.

The instructions were clear liquids, homemade chicken broth with no spices, etc. They felt this was food based issues. So, Tuesday I spent every 2 hours giving liquids to 2 cats via a syringe because they refused to eat or even drink water on their own. Tuesday night, Shadow, the healthier of the two slept between me and Doug, swaddled in my arms. When we woke up Wednesday, she had died in my arms through the night.

Sister, the second ill cat was getting weaker. I did what I had been instructed and kept giving her clear liquids, via syringe orally. Friday she was very unresponsive, EXTREMELY cold and very stiff. I rushed her to Lakewood Animal Hospital around 9 pm or a little later. She was in critical condition and required a blood transfusion. After over 14 hours or so of receiving constant fluids via IV and the proper medications, she was released to me to take home in very serious condition still. She has a follow up Wednesday. What I learned is that she had bleeding ulcers from FOOD that lead to kidney failure. When I had first taken her in, she WAS a candidate to be put to sleep. She was just that sick. I refused to give up on her. That was not an option for me.

Once I came home and started researching the particular food I have used for years, I was shocked and very upset. All of our cats have eaten Purina Cat Chow Indoor Formula - all of their life. The bag that is currently open IS contaminated and is what made all 6 of our cats very sick. I did not know this when I reordered their food from Walmart.com last week. The new bag arrived today. I have been reading complaints about this particular food for the last few hours. There are Facebook pages about Purina food killing dogs. People who have lost cats have also posted to this page.

I checked the FDA site but can find NO recalls on this food. The common theme of the complaints is that Purina recently changed their formula and since that change, animals are dying. I did find an EXTENSIVE list of posts about this issue. I lost a 9 month old baby and am keeping a second alive by being a vet tech to her at home because I simply could not afford to leave her in the hospital more than 1 day. Her bill for last night alone was $2200 and I have to take her back for her follow up Wednesday. Sister, the cat that has lived so far will be on pepcid for the rest of her life. The vet gave me a fiber based food to give to the rest of my cats to try to flush the toxins from the rest of our cats.

Purina does not seem to care from what I am reading in the posts at consumer affairs and the Facebook page. I contacted them via their chat options on the site and about 15 minutes later, a rep called me and took the complaint. She said someone would be in touch with me within 3 - 5 business days. So now I am waiting on them.

I rescued this kitten about 3 weeks ago. He's about 8 or 9 weeks right now. I bought him Purina Kitten Chow Nurture. At first he was his stool was normal. Then it got a little loose. Now he's been having uncontrollable diarrhea for the last 4 days. I seriously didn't think it was the cat food, but that is honestly all it could be, because we've given this to dinner of our kittens in the past. We are changing his diet as of this very second. I am not happy AT ALL!

When I fed my cat the Friskies dry foods, he frequently got cystitis. We had some bad episodes. For the last three years, I have been feeding Little Friskies Wet Pate food and had no cystitis. I think that some cats just don't drink enough water and the wet food helps. I recently started using Fancy Feast Broths just to make sure they get plenty of juice. All the cats like the canned food and they like a little Iams dry to snack on. This has proved to be a good regimen for my cats. I do think Little Friskies canned has saved my cat's life and it is at a price that I can afford. I do wish that Little Friskies would make more flavors available in the 13 oz. cans.

After arriving in the States from Canada, we finished off the last cans we'd bought back home and bought a new pack of canned Friskies. Our cat ate the first can (we later found vomit), but refused to eat the second. I thought he didn't like the flavor and left him to eat his dry kibble. The next day I opened another can and he still didn't eat. Then I noticed he had diarrhea. Other than that, he seemed okay. He went outside, ran around and played, but the following day he still didn't eat his can. I started to question the food. I even tasted it... a tiny drop of the gravy from the tip of my fork with the tip of my tongue. While it wasn't enough to actually taste anything, I felt a light burning sensation on my tongue for the next hour. I can only imagine what it did to my cat who actually ate it. Then I read a few of the comments on this site and really got worried. We finally bought the a can of Walmart's Special Kitty and now everything is back to normal.

Both have been vomiting white foam and drinking water excessively. Last Friday night my one cat was so ill that I thought that we would lose her but she perked up by morning (didn't make the food connection). The symptoms started again today and my other cat was sick last night. We threw away the bag and will never buy another Purina product. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving and we are hoping she perks back up or off to the vet on a holiday. If she dies there is going to be one pissed off consumer on Purina's hands.

My brother just gave me a kitten I named kratos. He was perfectly fine. I went out and bought the kitten type Purina fancy feast and I noticed he wasn't able to easily poop. Then he was meowing constantly. I left this morning to go to class and came home to find him laying dead in his vomit:( I only had him two days. Previous to kratos, I had rescued two feral kittens from my neighborhood. Gibson and Sylvester were perfectly fine and playful. I bought them kitten caboodle but fed them the regular Purina fancy feast for breakfast and dinner daily. At first I noticed they stopped playing and they avoided each other, which was odd. Sylvester got sick first and I found her when I got home from work. Prior to her death, she had accidents on herself when pooping and her back legs rapidly gave out on her, she also slept a lot and had a fever with a swollen face. Same instance with Gibson. However, she surpassed her sister by four days. I thought maybe they had something already when I rescued them so I felt I had did a good deed, loved them to their end. Apparently it was the food. It's too much of a coincidence, because now it has happened to my kratos too.

Fancy Feast and Friskies were the primary choice for my indoor and outdoor kitties for 13 years! Recently I'm opening 5-6 cans to maybe try to feed them wet food instead of 2!!! None of them would touch it anymore. Horrible smelly diarrhea from two of my indoor cats and very dry almost black stool from the older ones. What the hell are they putting in those cans recently? I feed them holistic, grain-free dry food but they get wet food twice/day. One of my older cats is throwing up, the other one refuses to eat wet food all together, and the third is having hacking/coughing spasms without hair balls and nasty diarrhea. I tried giving the same for my outdoor colony and they wouldn't touch it either. I am seriously pissed off. I'm calling the company tomorrow and then the FDA. They are putting some horrible ingredients in there :( Reading all of your reviews I am absolutely petrified!

Last week I purchased a bag of PURINA BENEFUL (as I've been for the past year and a half for my pup). She suddenly began to vomit the next day. I was convinced it wasn't the food because she eats it all the time. Over the next couple of days, her vomiting was incessant and she began to look lethargic. My neighbors even noticed the difference. For the past few days she's lost her appetite for any and all food, and she has constant diarrhea with blood segments in her stools. I'm poor and can't afford a vet. The symptoms parallel the symptoms for PARVO. Then I decided to engine search PURINA RECALL because I have no idea how she could have contracted such a sickness.. I'm pissed! I love my pup and every time she seems to get better it turns and gets worse for her.

I recommend anyone experiencing the same with their pet; save receipts, save the bag (or container) and make an account for any expenses occurred (ie: cleaning supplies, damaged household items due to vomit and bloody feces, shoes, clothes, carpets etc.) and of course spread the word to friends and family to NOT PURCHASE THIS EVIL CRAP!! Lastly if it is a strain of PARVO (which is HIGHLY CONTAGIOUS), our animals should quarantined as to not infect other pets who don't even eat the stuff!! I mean all it takes is one "hello", butt sniff and another dog is infected!! This is horrible! My pup is my best friend, member of the family and I'm scared whether or not she's going to make it. Love and prayers for all the pets and pet parents out there suffering.

My daughter's cat has become deathly sick. It started a week and one half ago where her cat got diarrhea and stopped eating. He never goes outside, she has no plants in the house, nor can he get to any chemicals. I told her it had to be the food causing his sickness. After doing some research, I have found this to be the case with others who have cats that have eaten Purina's Fancy Feast foods. Right now, her cat has been tested for everything under the sun and the vet is stumped what has happened to her 4 year old cat. I know her vet bill is over $1500 right now and the cat is still in the hospital. What Purina doesn't understand, these pets are people's family! Much heartache and tears have been shed over her cat, Roo. We are praying that her cat can bounce back. Never again will she feed her cat Purina foods again!!! I will never feed my cat that brand too!!! Please let me know if there is a class action suit against Purina due to this!

After a very expensive trip to the vet it was determined to be a gastrointestinal issue. Four days of boiled hamburger and rice he started improving a bit. I did contact Purina and they offered to pay my vet bill. No problem; with the understanding that once I cash the check my case is closed. I sent them a sample that he was eating, no word yet if it was tainted. Also was feeding my cat Friskies indoor cat formula and he vomited all day long. I took him off it immediately and saw improvement within a day.
