Embrace has an incredible follow up after purchasing the plan(s) of your choice. All information on the plan and items needed to make sure the insurance is active are followed up. When I called to confirm items or ask general questions, they are incredibly knowledgeable, friendly and prompt. I also wasn't on hold for more than a few moments before I got to a person. Another family member referred me to this company and if it wasn't for the incredible plan and prompt payments, she would have lost her fur baby to cancer. I rarely write reviews, but I feel this company has earned the right to be praised to everyone.

We decided to get Embrace for our 4.5 year old boxer, and we are so glad we did. Shortly after he turned 5, he had a series of health problems and it was so great not having to worry about the cost of treatment. We chose the $1000 deductible, 90% reimbursement, $30K per year in coverage option and it has been excellent. Our daughter has an almost 2 year old dog and we are in the process of helping her sign her dog up as well. Recommended to our next door neighbors when they got a puppy and to my mom for her kitties. Embrace is an honest, transparent company, no surprises.

We spend almost $500 for a year policy and did not get 1 claim approved. Our Pug was disqualified from multiple possible future claims due to her breed. We got our puppy from a rescue and insured her within 4 months of getting her. We took her into the vet soon after getting her because she threw up and believed she had indigestion. She was prescribed heartburn pills and was fine. Because she was seen once for vomiting before policy, any future vomiting (poisoned or blockage even) would not be covered for 1 full year…as long as there was no more vomiting visits… regardless of the reason for vomiting. Embrace will find a reason to deny you your claim. Additionally, it was a huge pain to sending the few papers we had from vet visits for shots, a spay and a vomiting visit. They didn’t believe that was all we had done with the vet. Best of luck if you take them on.
Hello Jered,
I sincerely apologize for any frustration you’ve experienced with the claims process! Pre-existing conditions are based directly off of the medical records provided to us by your vet, and they are determined as a result of anything being diagnosed or symptomatic prior to starting the policy and through the initial waiting periods. We do strive to be as upfront and clear as possible in regard to the terms and conditions of the policy, but I am sorry if there was any misunderstanding. If you have any questions or would like further clarification in regard to your claims, please give us a call at 800-511-9172 or send an email to askclaims@embracepetinsurance.com and we're happy to help.

I have 2 dogs, both born with stenotic nares due to breed confirmation. The older dog’s surgery was covered, the younger dog’s surgery was not. The difference? The vet who saw my younger dog at first vet visit noted the condition while the vet who saw my older dog did not. So my $4500 claim was denied. I am dissatisfied enough with this decision that I am moving to another pet insurance provider. This is totally unacceptable and amounts to a loophole that Embrace uses not to pay claims.
Hello Cynthia,
I am sorry for any disappointment you experienced with your policy! Although Bulldogs can be born with stenotic nares, not all Bulldogs are born with it so it would still be considered an abnormality. We do offer coverage for breed specific/hereditary conditions, but unfortunately we are unable to provide coverage if the condition is noted in the medical records as pre-existing (anything diagnosed or symptomatic prior to starting the policy and through the initial waiting periods). If you have any additional questions or would like further clarification, please give us a call at 800-511-9172 and a representative will be happy to assist you!

This was my first experience with pet insurance. It took the adjusters 6 weeks after receiving all medical records to put a note on the account saying they were requesting more medical records when there were not any additional records, at that time. Then it took weeks to review the medical record just fabricate information indicating that everything was a preexisting condition. I had to have the vet appeal and have myself appeal the decision with Embrace’s underwriter for the pet insurance, who finally approved the claims and nullified the falsified information. Reimbursements finally began 8-10 weeks after initial claim was filed. But during that time Embrace was still denying new claims, for the same condition, for 2 more weeks after the underwriter had approved the appeal. I had to call Embrace after every claim to speak to customer service, appraisers, supervisors, everyone to get them to correct their repeated mistakes.
My vet and her team were super frustrated with the way they were treated by Embrace reps. The vet team sent out multiple emails, faxes, and when they were contacted the Embrace team spoke over them and even hung up them when they disagreed with the vet's actual findings. Not something anyone wants to deal with when they are caring for a sick pet. I worked more hours and harder than the Embrace team to get reimbursed. Definitely not the way pet insurance was designed or should be. I would cancel if I could but my pet now has a medical condition. Would not recommend Embrace to any pet parent. Try another insurance that handles sensitive situations either with professionalism and in a timely manner because Embrace did not.
Hello Charlene,
I apologize for any disappointment you experienced with your claims and with our service. We do strive to provide the best service for our pet parents and I am sorry that is not the impression you were left with! In regard to the Medical History Review, when the first accident or illness claims are submitted it can take longer to process while we gather the full medical history record. We go directly off of the medical records provided to us by the clinic(s) your pet has been seen at and pre-existing conditions are determined based off of this information. If you ever feel something is an incorrect assessment you do have the option to appeal, and if the vet can provide additional information or clarification then we can review the new information to make a determination on whether or not the exclusion can be modified. I do see the decision was overturned and the claims were covered! If you have any additional questions or would like further clarification, please give us a call at 800-511-9172 and a representative will be happy to assist you.

Have been with Embrace since my dog was 6 months old, he's now almost 11. They have continued to offer superior support. You may submit claims online or call and actually speak with a live person, which seems to be almost impossible to find with most companies lately. Pet insurance is expensive, and the price goes up every year but, if you plan on going to a vet for wellness visits and/or you have a dog that's a bit of a trouble maker and gets into stuff that they shouldn't, it's invaluable. Have changed the plan over the years to increase the deductible to lower costs but still keeping it. Last emergency room visit -consultation, Xray, bloodwork, etc was $1345 (NY pricing). Getting 80% back really helps!!!

This policy Costs more than if I pay out of pocket. It does not cover basics, only accidents or emergencies and even then, not with preexisting conditions. I have been paying monthly and when I made my first claim today, it wasn’t covered. I could add the Wellness Rewards for a minimum of $200 a month. Embrace then uses my money they are holding for me to pay my claim. They make interest on my money and then pay my claim back to me with it. What a scam.
Hello Teran,
I am sorry for any disappointment you experienced with your policy! We do strive to be as upfront as possible about the terms and conditions and you are correct that pre-existing conditions and routine/preventative care are not eligible for coverage under the insurance. Our Wellness Rewards plan is separate from the main insurance policy and is meant to function like a health savings account or budgeting tool that will reimburse you 100% upfront for the routine or preventative care your pet needs. We have three tiers of it, which are: $250 annual allowance, $450 annual allowance, and $650 annual allowance. All three tiers provide savings annually and they allow you to pay less over time instead of more up front. You can read more about Wellness here on our website: https://www.embracepetinsurance.com/coverage/wellness-rewards. Hello Andre,
I am sorry for any disappointment you experienced with your claims! The two main things that are not covered under the insurance policy are pre-existing conditions and routine/preventative care. For your covered claims, any covered amounts will first go toward meeting your annual deductible before reimbursement can kick in. You can view a full breakdown of this by downloading a copy of your claim's Explanation of Benefits, which can be accessed by logging into your MyEmbrace portal. If you have any additional questions or would like further clarification, please give us a call at 800-511-9172 and we're happy to help.

Within a two year period, Embrace has raised my premium by over 200%. The only detail they've provided is that it's because of their underwriter and they don't have any control over premium increases.
Hello Christopher,
I am sorry for any frustration you experienced! Our premiums are evaluated each year when our underwriters perform a substantial actuarial analysis. Premiums increase over time as a cost of business with all pet insurance companies and they are based on factors such as age, pet tenure, pet type/breed, location, vet costs, etc. We do not currently base premiums off of the number of claims you've submitted or the health status of your pet. We do however have our $50 Healthy Pet Deductible Credit that is applied for every year you go without reimbursement for claims. All of our premium increases are actuarily justified and approved by each state’s department of insurance. Easy to deal with when submitting a claim. However, there's a "double speak" approach. They compel you to have insurance with your puppy ASAP (which I did, in his first year of life). They say if you wait, rates will be very high to start. However, after just one year, the rates go up (on avg) 20-35% each year. They explained that as your pet ages, the actuarial tables project higher risks, so you pay very high increases annually. Point being: regardless of starting young or waiting, you ultimately end up paying high rates as your pet ages (they were not explicit about this from the get go).
In speaking with a manager, he suggested that if rates continued at 35% increases, it's feasible the cost of my healthy pup's insurance at age 5 could be 2K per year by 2026. While I plan to continue for another year, pragmatically speaking, saving $60 each month in a jar might be another option. There's always the one off serious surgery that could cost 5K+. We have an electric fence and my dog doesn't chase cars. It's a tough call. Insurance companies, like Vegas tables, know how to WIN.

I bought their insurance for both my dogs and as soon as I had a claim they made up fake ridiculous reasons to refuse to pay my claim. Also, they added fake pre-existing conditions to my dog's profile to not pay for my claim. I appealed my claim and got multiple doctors to write notes and give proof that my claim was valid and it was not a pre-existing condition. They refuse to accept it and they just turned me down multiple times after many appeals. The customer service is very rude and they ignore my emails. Lisa ** a claim adjuster will do anything to make your experience working with the company unpleasant.
My dog had a seizure covered in my policy and had never had one before I signed up. One of the side effects of a seizure was a temporary paralyzation on the left side of her body. A year prior she had a back injury that caused temporary paralyzation in her back legs which was unrelated and because she had the side effect from something unrelated they did not pay my claim for her medical bills for the seizure. How are a back injury and seizure-related or pre-existing conditions? Also, she caught kennel cough a year after buying the policy, and during a medical visit a year before the policy I told the doctor that she occasionally sneezes because of allergies and because cough and sneeze were written in the notes by the doctor for a yearly checkup they did not pay my 1,000 bill for her kennel cough treatment that was a year prior which is a virus you catch and show symptoms a few days later and can not last over a year.
I had the doctor write a letter that said it is impossible to be related and they refused to accept that. Do not buy insurance through them I am currently going through lawsuits with them to get my claim paid and they have ruined my credit while all these bills sit on my credit card bills for months because there huge and I can not afford which is why I buy insurance. Horrible company and they are frauds! They will never pay a claim they will always refuse you.

I am very frustrated with this company. I chose their policy because they claim to provide the best coverage. That they divide their incurable and curable preexisting conditions to allow for more coverage. However, what they fail to tell you is that they will find any reason to deny your claims. My puppy was placed under several "temporary preexisting conditions" which I was told I could appeal. I followed up with questions and it took several months to get a response after calling and emailing several times.
I spoke with my vet who stated that the "conditions" they listed should not hinder my puppy from coverage and she even wrote a letter in favor of my appeal. Embrace claimed to not receive the letter (she sent it twice) and when I got a copy from her and sent it myself, I was told it would take 15 buisness days to process. All the while, they continued to deny my claims including one sent after the appeal was finally accepted for review.
The nail in the coffin for this company came when they denied a claim for my puppy's external ear infection because he had a preexisting pruritis of skin. Claiming any dermatological condition would not be covered. Pruritis of skin and otitis externa are 2 VERY different things! When I called to cancel my policy all they offered me was a $5 prorated refund. The money I spent in the premium for my puppy to not be covered is unacceptable. I DO NOT recommend this insurance company. They will take your money and your pet will not be better for it.

The app is super easy to upload the invoices, my claim was reviewed and approved I think within 24 hours? It wasn’t longer than I think a day and a half before I got a response and received the checks a week later. Having a sick pet is so distressing and I appreciate not having to worry about the financial piece. I’m very happy with their services. I have already recommended this company to several people. Embrace pet insurance was a total waste of time and money for me. I was better off just paying out of pocket for medical expenses as opposed to paying high monthly fees for an insurance policy that I could not even use. I was paying into my policy for about a year and then all of a sudden my monthly fees go up 55% out of nowhere. Embrace pet insurance claimed that my cat had a pre-existing condition. This is not true because my cat was not diagnosed with this condition until after I started my policy with embrace. Embrace would not pay for any claims that I submitted. So basically I was paying into a policy that I could not even use and my cat was only dealing with that one condition only.
Embrace pet insurance is a total waste of time and I would never recommend this company to anyone on earth or any other planet for that matter. Embrace pet insurance would not accept any of my claims yet they can abruptly raise my monthly fees by 55% without a warning. I am totally disgusted with this company and I will never join this company nor recommend this company to anyone ever again in life. If I could give this insurance company zero stars, then I definitely would have.
Also the fact that I have to put out medical expenses first in hopes that I get reimbursed by the insurance company is also bogus. Is there any pet insurance company out there where you don't have to come out of pocket UP FRONT and you can just use the insurance card and it will cover most if not all of the bill??? Embrace pet insurance is insane and none of the monthly fees are fixed. They can increase it at any given moment they feel like. Where are the BBB private investigators when you need them? POLICY DEFINITELY TERMINATED!!!
Hello A,
I am sorry for any disappointment you experienced with your policy! Per the terms and conditions, premiums may increase at renewal due to age, veterinary cost inflation, and other actuarial changes. I had had insurance for over two years with Embrace. Then a claim had to be filed. It took forever for them to pay me nothing. Said it was related to a preexisting condition despite what my vet told them. I now have a 37.00 claim in that was filed at least two weeks ago. I just had filed a claim for the same thing. Payment went to deductible after two weeks. Now suddenly they want to review records for this little 37.00 claim. Records were reviewed right after I took policy. I also have a temp preexisting condition on the policy. How long is temp?? It’s been sitting there since 2018. I have dealt with three other companies in the past. I went with Embrace because they were a established company. Mistake. Put your money in another company. If you don’t you will be where I am. Frustrated and pissed off.

Both of our pets were diagnosed with cancer in May, which came with several vet visits and hospital bills. We had claims for one of our pets denied for an absolutely ridiculous reason, and the notes sent from the claim adjuster were often contradictory. One adjuster overlooked the diagnostics performed on a previous mass (and listed “fine needle aspirate” as an example of an acceptable diagnostic procedure), and another adjuster saw it in the medical records but said that it was inconclusive. We had to contact our vet to help dispute the claim, and they were absolutely furious with the incompetence of this insurance company. On top of this, they are suddenly asking for complete medical records to be sent again for our other pet in order to look for any “preexisting conditions”, despite already having paid other claims for the cancer diagnosis and receiving the medical records multiple times.
Receiving a cancer diagnosis for a pet is hard enough, let alone both pets at the same time. We pay for pet insurance in the event that the unthinkable happens to our pets, and when we needed it, we had to pay over $14,000 out of pocket while we jumped through hoops attempting to be reimbursed. I seriously regret switching from our other insurance company, Healthy Paws, in order to save a few dollars a month and would advise anyone to stay away from this company.

Hello Dave,
I am sorry for any disappointment you experienced with your policy and we are sad to see you go! I certainly understand your frustration in regard to the premium increase. Unfortunately, premiums do increase over time as a cost of business with all pet insurance companies. Each year, our underwriters conduct a substantial actuarial analysis and these findings help to determine increases in premium pricing for all policies in the state. Our premium increases are generally based primarily on the age of the pet and the pet tenure (how long the pet has been insured). We must keep up with the actuarial fluctuations as best as we can and adjust premiums accordingly from year to year. If you have any additional concerns, please feel free to reach out and we're happy to help!

I have been with Embrace for 10 years. I never had any issues with them. They accepted every claim I sent in. The last couple years, I did notice an increase in pricing which made me have to up my deductible to make it affordable for four dogs. I used to recommend them to others because I always had a good experience and good customer service. I've notice some other people in the dog community state that they were leaving Embrace due to bad customer service and issues with their claims. During my 10 years, I couldn't believe there was because I've never had problems. But my time was came.
Last year, I added a puppy to the family. I added her to Embrace and had a Mobile Vet come to do the Wellness Check and Ortho waive form for me so she can get covered. I've been paying for all four of my dogs since. Since that appointment, I found a new local vet that I have been using. In April of this year, I thought my puppy injured her eye and took her to my vet. I put in the claim and it had been put on hold. It stated they were waiting for records. Now in June, still on hold, I reached out as to why.
I got an email stating that they were waiting for records from my vet for her wellness check. So I was bugging this poor Mobile Vet trying to get the proof Embrace needed. I was worried because what if something serious happened and I had a big claim to put in? What a Cluster it would be. So better to get this resolved now. I finally get the email from the Mobile vet and sent it to Embrace. I get a response of "We already have that, we're waiting for this other clinic's response."
Why didn't they just say so to begin with? My puppy had never been a patient there and has never stepped foot into their office. I called this clinic who told me that they don't send email responses and Embrace would have to call. So I email Embrace back and was speaking with this agent. (Mind you this was all in the morning hours). When I explained this to the agent, she just stopped responding to my email. And I know it was during business hours as I live 30 minutes from their location.
I thought it was very rude. I couldn't believe it. Why didn't they just call this clinic to begin with? It's been since April! If I didn't say anything, it would have just stayed on hold. They never once reached out to me or any of the animal clinics to verify any of this information. So they had no issue keeping this on hold, but also had no issues taking my money for this "coverage".
So yesterday, I found a better deal with Pets Best Insurance with better coverage for my four dogs. I called Embrace to cancel and spoke with an agent. I explained all of this and she said she would like to pause the cancel and would like me to speak with a manager about what happened. I said that was fine. I waited until noon and still no call.
I understand they are busy, but being a client of theirs for 10 year, I was hoping a manager cared enough to call to speak with me. I took this as they don't really care about anything that happened. So I called back and canceled with them. 5 minutes later, someone finally calls to tell me they are now processing my claim on my puppy. Took all of this just for that happen. Just really disappointing. Hopefully, I have a good experience with Pets Best.
Hello Jackie,
I sincerely apologize for any disappointment you experienced with the claims process! As you stated, we had been requesting medical records from a clinic your pet had not been seen at because our standard protocol is to send a request to the clinic listed as your referring vet on file. As the pet in question was added mid-term, you did not receive the email requesting your pet's clinic information, which partly caused the confusion. This has been brought to our attention and is in the process of being changed to hopefully avoid this issue in the future, so we appreciate you providing that feedback.
I am sorry it was not made more clear to you which specific clinic we were waiting on! This has been noted as well so that we can make changes and improve this for all of our pet parents. In general, our managers try to call back the same day or within 24 hours, but we do have a standard chain of command that this goes through and unfortunately the manager who did reach out to you was not notified of the request until about an hour before you called to cancel.
This is not the level of service we strive for at Embrace and I certainly understand your frustration. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please let us know and we're happy to help.

I purchased a policy for my 12 year old dog. I submitted a claim after the two week waiting period. The claim was to test for Cushing's disease. My dog had NEVER been diagnosed or even suggested by a vet that she had this prior to this. After 45 days of waiting I received an email from the adjuster saying my dog would not be covered for Cushing's because she had symptoms prior to the waiting period. I purchased the policy at the end of Feb 2022. Waiting period was over by first week of March 2022. They combed through all of my dog's medical history looking for a way to link something to her current diagnosis.
The adjuster referred lab work from April 2021 where my dog's liver enzymes were SLIGHTLY elevated and said 'We cannot rule out that this is related to Cushing's Disease'. Let me repeat that. No vet EVER said to me that this elevated lab value could be related to Cushing's Disease. As a matter of fact the Vet was treating my dog from a recent gall bladder removal surgery which can affect liver values. This company is a rip off. They will try to find any lab value that can support their claim to deny your claim. Don't buy insurance from them unless your dog has NO LAB WORK on file ANYWHERE or you have a puppy. They get paid to find a way to deny your claim while still collecting your premium.
Hello Mita,
I am sorry for any disappointment you experienced with your claim! Per the policy terms and conditions, pre-existing conditions are defined as anything diagnosed or symptomatic prior to starting the policy and through the initial waiting periods. The medical records indicated your dog had experienced urinary issues, elevated liver enzymes, and panting prior to starting the policy. As these are all symptoms related to Cushing's disease, unfortunately we were unable to cover the claims. Embrace pet insurance is not trustworthy. The claims process is made long and complicated even though they make it appear to be simple. They excluded conditions that my dog didn’t previously have and other conditions as simple as diarrhea. Basically, Embrace made it so that anything that may occur will not be covered. I began to suspect something was not right when Embrace claimed it could not get information from three different veterinarians. All three said they never received anything from Embrace. After Embrace tried listing an illness my dog had well after the policy was active as pre-existing I knew this company was fraudulent. Upon researching the reviews for Embrace, I learned that the company routinely does this kind of thing to customers. I do not trust Embrace insurance with my pet’s health and life.

I recently canceled my policy with Embrace that I had for almost a year (I got it in May 2021). I have a cat and had recently adopted my dog, and I thought Embrace was a good choice for pet insurance because I read good reviews. Fast forward to April 2022, my dog had an emergency: she ate a curtain and was gagging and bleeding from her mouth. I had to take her to a pet ER because this was late in the day. She was fine at the end of the ordeal, and I filed my claim with Embrace. They denied it because of lack of medical history. I wasn't too fazed by this; this was the first claim I had filed, so it didn't surprise me that they wanted more information. I figured I could scrape together the remaining information and then everything would be fine.
So I submitted every single record I have for this dog. Still got denied for a lack of medical history. For reference, my dog was a street dog and a rescue, so nobody knows her full history. And yet, even though I attempted to explain this, the claim still got denied. To put a cherry on top, Embrace raised my premium for both of my pets. I wanted to cancel my policy at that point, and you can't cancel it online, so I emailed Embrace weeks before my renewal date. No reply. So, I ended up having to call them, waited on hold for an hour, and finally canceled it. I paid my premium on time, every time, for a year. Yet the one time I needed to actually use my policy and tried to file a claim with the information that I could provide, I was denied. My honest review of Embrace: worthless; a waste of time and money, unless you know every single shred of your pet's history. Which is impossible if you try to do a good thing and adopt a stray from the street.
Hello Hayden,
I apologize for any frustration you've experienced with your claim and we are sad to see you go! At the moment, the claim has not been denied, but it was put on hold due to pending medical history. Although our goal is to process claims as quickly as possible, we are required to confirm we have the pet’s full medical history on file before we can process any claims related to an accident or illness. When the first claim is submitted, it can take longer to process while we collect this information. Once it has been received and confirmed complete, the claims process is much quicker moving forward as this is not something we have to re-collect every time a claim is submitted.
We initially only received a summary version of the medical records from your clinic, whereas we look for the detailed chart notes, also known as SOAP notes (subjective, objective, assessment, plan). Our claims team recently reached out to your clinic to obtain the correct notes, but they stated they were not allowed to send the medical records to us and would instead send them directly to you to submit. Once you receive those records, they can be submitted via your MyEmbrace portal through the "Send Documents" link, via email to claims@embracepetinsurance.com (please be advised this address is only monitored for PDF file attachments), or via fax to 800-238-1042. After speaking with customer service they couldn’t explain the reason for the increase therefore I cancel my plan at renewal. I just don’t understand why my premiums when up after filing a claim. Isn’t that why we have insurance?
Hello Mr,
Thank you for providing that feedback, we are sad to see you go! We understand it can be frustrating to see your premium has increased.
You do always have the option to adjust your coverage in other ways to bring your premium price down. For example, increasing your deductible, decreasing your reimbursement percentage, or decreasing your annual maximum. If you are interested in exploring these options, please call our Customer Care Center at 800-511-9172 and a representative will be happy to go over it with you.

I wish I wouldn't have selected this company as my pet insurance. My dog jumped out of the car tore his ACL and they refused to cover the $2800 surgery stating it happened during the 6 month orthopedic waiting period and even though it was an accident it was still considered orthopedic. I don't see the point in having this insurance if they find clever wording to not cover surgeries. And my monthly payment is now $147.50... Absolutely disgusting.
Hello Kristen,
I apologize for any disappointment you experienced with your claim! Based on the diagnosis received for your dog's claim, we were unable to provide coverage for the CCL tear because hindlimb lameness was noted in the medical records on 5/17/21, which was within the 6-month orthopedic waiting period. I've had Embrace for my dog for 7 years now, ever since she was a pup. They were pretty good, and paid most claims with little complaint or delay. Starting in 2022, they've become an absolute nightmare to deal with: they nitpick every claim to death, delay payments, and it's nearly impossible to get ahold of a live person there.
Example of the shady games Embrace plays with policyholders and their pets: To dodge payment for removal of growth on my pup's PAW, Embrace said it wasn't covered, as she had a wart in her MOUTH long ago. Embrace "Chief Underwriter" Jenna ** acknowledged that "an approximately 5 mm raised sebaceous-like dermal mass on the 5th digit of the left hind paw was removed." ** then went into contortions to describe why Embrace wouldn't pay for that:
"On 2/19/2015, Ava was diagnosed with oral papillomas... Since it cannot definitively be determined what type of mass was removed, I cannot provide coverage for this claim. Under the Terms and Conditions of Ava's policy, Ava's papillomas are pre-existing because the diagnosis of the condition occurred prior to the policy's effective date. As such, your policy does not cover the claim you submitted." In other words, they're not covering a removal of a paw growth (sebaceous) because 7 years ago she had a wart on her tongue (papilloma).
Another example this year: To dodge payment for a knee procedure, they said that a tiny portion of the procedure, which was offered for FREE by the vet, wasn't covered and therefore, they wouldn't cover ANY of the $2000 procedure. They completely ignored a follow-up letter from my vet. I'm still waiting for a response from them on that, while in the meantime, I'm on the hook for $2000. For your sanity, not to mention the health and safety of your pup, do NOT use Embrace! I'm now having to take up the cases with the California Dep't of Insurance and consider legal action, not ways I enjoy spending my spare time.

As all insurances companies exist with the sole intention of denying as many claims as humanly possible, this one is no exception. We were literally within "hours" of the time period required for the policy to go live, and they denied us. We felt that they were truly "splitting hairs." Several emails and conversations with them yielded elusive responses, coupled with extensive instructions about how to file an appeal. Certainly those details were also intended to discourage the average person, as they were involved and time-consuming. There was no effort to understand the unique circumstances we found ourselves in with a new puppy, even though I went to great lengths to explain.
Also, we received a card in the mail indicating that our prescriptions are covered, so when I inquired about that, again, I received a convoluted, roundabout reply. Again, the bottom line was they were not interested in applying any logic or human element of understanding. We were not sure what was going on with our new puppy, and neither was the vet, so he erred on the side of caution and prescribed meds. We later discovered there was no need. In any event, the entire lame experience was all about "pushback." We spent a great deal of money and received nothing in return.

So far, the jury is still out. The on-line claims process appears to be straightforward, but is misleading. The process presses you to select from a very limited number of conditions. Selecting a condition can inadvertently make a condition appear to be a pre-existing condition resulting in a denied claim. This happened on 3 different situations. Claims are oriented around a single visit - requiring submission of multiple claims for the same medical issue if/when followup visits are required - without the claims being linked. There definitely is a learning curve in claims submission. Because there are no specific billing codes (as there are with a human medical issue), there appears to be a tendency of linking any issue with a body part or system - and therefore considering it a pre-existing condition. I now have 6 claims under appeal. In hindsight, I am not sure I see enough value in the program, and should not have renewed my policy.

Embrace did overturn their decision on the appeal and covered Otter's claim. I am leaving a four star-rating to average out to three stars, as I am pleased the claim is covered.
Original Review: April 20, 2022
First, let me start by stating that I have had a TERRIBLE time with Embrace. My dog Otter was diagnosed with neck pain, and the two claims submitted for this issue were denied because he was in his orthopedic waiting period. When my vet appealed, they were still denied, because it might be orthopedic. When he was taken to a neurologist (claim #3 - for the same issue, now to a specialist), and they found meningeal enhancement (and even performed a spinal tap to determine the cause), they denied the claim - why? Pre-existing condition - of a neurological issue that might be orthopedic (but is clearly not). How do I know? Because I have a PhD from the UGA College of Veterinary Medicine, and I reviewed meningeal enhancement (the diagnosis), which is undoubtedly a neurological issue.
The neurologist even wrote that there was no orthopedic involvement in the notes! How does a neurological issue of meningeal enhancement that starts four months after the policy started become "Anxiety and Abnormal Behavior" to the claims adjuster, which are conveniently not covered? Otter is doing better now after a course of **, many thanks to the neurologist that treated him and absolutely no thanks to Embrace.

So basically, if your dog is totally fine and pulls a muscle from running around one day, they will deny your dog coverage as PERMANENT PREEXISTING ILLNESS AND WILL NEVER, REPEAT NEVER, cover any claim from there on out. DO NOT GET EMBRACE. On top of that, they make you pay over $500 TO CANCEL THE INSURANCE! I’ve spent twice the amount of money paying for insurance AND paying for medical expenses that aren’t getting covered becasue of the damn “insurance”. You are better off just putting away $80 a month into your own savings account and using that money later becasue you will be spend TWICE the amount paying for insurance that WILL NOT COVER OR REIMBURSE YOU and you still to pay the vet bills becasue the insurance won’t cover it.
My biggest regret ever. The positive reviews is false advertisement as they are posted by the employees themselves. I was told not to go to Embrace but I did it anyways and it’s cost me over $1,500 because I got Embrace when I could’ve just paid the $300 vet bills myself and be done with it. With Embrace, you are OVERPAYING. They lead you to believe you are doing the right thing by having coverage but it’s worthless because they deny all claims except vaccines. DO NOT GET THEM. I'M REPORTING THEM TO BBB FOR INSURANCE FRAUD.

Make sure your pet has 12 months with a clean bill of health (that can be proven with records from your vet) before you apply otherwise any preexisting condition and ANY "clinical signs" (meaning anything that could potentially be attributed to the preexisting condition, even if it's caused by something else) will be used to deny your claims.
My dog has a preexisting condition (Cushings) and Embrace was not upfront about the fact that this disease basically allows them to deny most of my claims because it has such a huge list of "clinical signs". The dog had a knee injury and a few thousand dollars worth of vet bills, any vet bill that had a mention of a clinical sign from Cushings was denied, even though all complications where precipitated by the knee injury. If the company was upfront about this and had not taken my money for 3 years I wouldn't be as furious as I am now.

Hello Daniel,
I am sorry for any disappointment you experienced with your policy and I understand it can be frustrating when you see the premium has increased! Premiums do increase over time as a cost of business with all pet insurance companies and there are several factors that are calculated into the cost: age, pet tenure, breed/pet type, veterinary costs, etc. While your current premium may be higher than the new quote, in general when a pet is insured at a younger age, we expect to be able to cover more of your claims as your pet ages than someone who signed their pet up later in life because they will most likely have more pre-existing conditions that are ineligible for coverage. Due to that pet tenure, your premium generally ends up being higher than someone who is purchasing a brand new policy for a pet of the same age. With our policies we do not currently increase prices based off of the number of claims submitted or the heath status of your pet. We do however have our $50 Healthy Pet Deductible Credit that gets applied toward the deductible for every year you go without reimbursement for claims.
Our Pet Insurance Advisors are trained to advise on coverage and help pet parents purchase the policy and our Customer Care team is trained to service them. They are two separate departments and the call volume is larger for the service lines, which unfortunately does result in a longer hold time. I am sorry for any inconvenience that caused! Hello Gamer Girl,
We understand it can be frustrating to see a premium increase! Premiums are determined based on factors such as age, breed/pet type, pet tenure, veterinary inflation, etc. This actuarial claims data is then narrowed down based on the ZIP code territory where you and your pet reside because it factors in as to the number of pets claiming in your specific area. I purchased this policy March 2, 2022 for my two Frenchie puppies. March 15 one of my puppyie's eyes was injured while playing with her brother. I was able to take her to the Vet March 20, 2022. The eye specialist indicated that her descemetocele ruptured because of the injury to her eye and that it needed to have surgery right away so that her eye could be saved. I submitted a pre certification claim which was denied.
Their first excuse was that my pup had not received a physical which I was able to prove otherwise. The second excuse was that it was done by a vet tech which again I had to prove that that was NOT true. Then after those excuses did not work they claimed that the injury was an "illness" and not an "accident" and the policy did not cover an illness until the 16th of March. While an accident is covered 3 days after I purchased the policy. Per the policy it states that an accident means an unexpected or unintended event, which is specific as to place and time causing Injury to your Pet.
My vets notes has a time: 5 days and a place: while playing rough with her litter mate her eye was injured. It was still denied because they are deeming this as an "ILLNESS". HOW IS AN INJURY TO YOUR EYE AN ILLNESS?! The eye specialist has submitted further documentation to demonstrate that the rupture was due to the trauma she received to the eye and I am now waiting 15 DAYS for a response. "Since appeals take 15 days" Which by the way can not be expedited for a sooner response! The vet also indicated that she may lose her eye because the rupture requires immediate attention. I thought I did my research while looking for a dog insurance on my puppies but this was by far a bad experience!
Hello Ralph,
I sincerely apologize for any frustration you've experienced with your claim! We understand how stressful it can be when one of our fur babies is sick or hurt, and I assure you our goal is not to make the claims process even more stressful for you. However, we are required to abide by the terms and conditions of the policy. Based on the medical records we received, a corneal ulcer progressed to the ruptured globe of the eye. As this was noted as having clinical signs starting on 3/15/22, which was within the 14-day illness waiting period, we were unable to provide coverage. Any time you feel it was an incorrect assessment though, you do have the option to appeal and we are happy to review any new additional information. Your appeal is currently in the process of being reviewed and you will receive a confirmation email from the claims department once it has been completed. If you have any additional questions, concerns, or would like further clarification, please call our Customer Care Center at 800-511-9172 and a representative will be happy to assist you.

The pre-existing conditions determination seems designed to exempt Embrace from any liability at all. For instance, our GSD was exempted from "vomiting" -- which is a SYMPTOM of many possible conditions, not a condition itself -- for a year. We fear this has the effect of discouraging pet owners to seek help for vomiting that could be from a completely new disease or illness, unrelated to the one identified in the pet's medical history. This is just one example of an irresponsible use of the pre-existing conditions policy. We have had several with our two pets.
Hello Peter,
I apologize for any disappointment you experienced with your policy! We do strive to be as upfront as possible about the policy terms and conditions. Unfortunately, no pet insurance company is able to cover pre-existing conditions, which are defined as anything diagnosed or symptomatic prior to starting the policy and through the initial waiting periods. However, we do distinguish between permanent and temporary pre-existing conditions. Temporary conditions (like vomiting) can be considered curable and are eligible to expire if the pet goes 12 months consecutively symptom and treatment free. I was not able to locate your policy to view the specific details, but if you have any additional questions or would like further clarification, please call our Customer Care Center at 800-511-9172 and a representative will be happy to assist you!

I research and compared every pet insurance company there is and finally decided on Embrace because it seemed the most trustworthy and inclusive. I didn't expect to need it but after my cat of 15 years suffered horribly and died from cancer I promised myself I would get insurance for any pet going forward. Well, Embrace has been a lifesaver with my kitty who ended up having a rare bone disease in a location that causes tremendous complications. We're still working through it but if it weren't for Embrace, I'd be in major debt, probably divorced and would have likely lost everything including my little love, who is full of life, despite his condition.
Embrace makes it easy to submit claims and I would recommend to anyone with a pet. You may think your pet is healthy but one day they may need care and it's worth every penny for peace of mind. You never have to question or worry taking your pet to the vet with insurance. I'm grateful every day for making the decision to get insurance.

I applied to pet insurance in 09/2021 after I had a pet who got seriously ill and passed away after 6 days in the hospital, and we had to come to come out of pocket for it. I never wanted to put my family in that position again, so when I received an email about Embrace through USAA, I didn’t hesitate to sign up my current pets. It gave me peace of mind that if something like this were to ever happen again, that we could financially support it with the help of Embrace.
Well, unbeknownst to me, we would end up having another emergency situation 5 months later when our current dog got sick out of nowhere. He had just had a biannual check up a month or two before and everything was great, so it was quite a shock we were going through this again and so soon. I was terrified of losing another dog as I’m still grieving the first loss, but I knew I could give this dog a fighting chance and not worry about the cost as much as we were with the first. Luckily, after only a day and a half in the emergency room, my current pet turned a corner and so he was sent home with lots of meds and an order to get a check up by our current vet in the following days. He is now back to normal, and for that we are grateful.
When it came time to submit everything to Embrace, the upload process was extremely easy. The process claim was relatively fast, and they stayed in communication with me about how to speed up the process. Everyone I talked to on the phone was extremely nice, and even listened to me when I cried talking about my former pet. Even though we had some issues with the first reimbursement and our vet had to write an appeal, everything was eventually resolved and I could not be happier! Thanks Embrace!

Here’s my experience- purchased a plan for $107 a month for my 9 year old cane corso. Had my vet send Kaya’s health records so I would know everything they consider preexisting conditions. I had a feeling there would be a few things because she’s 9, but let me tell you- they got back to me 2 weeks later telling me that they won’t cover basically ANYTHING. See attached photos.
There were things under preexisting that the vet has never said are a problem! They said she has plaque buildup yet the vet has always said she has perfect teeth and does not even need to get a cleaning. They also said that she has arthritis so any hip problems are preexisting which has never been diagnosed. Her Vet has always said her mobility is fine. And they said any cancer &/or lumps will not be covered because she has had a few (we had them all tested and none were cancer so idk how they can exclude cancer as preexisting). Also, because I called the office to ask about swallowing something (she had not actually swallowed anything, it was a phone conversation) so Embrace said that’s not covered either. Now I’ve been waiting on the phone for 30 minutes to try to cancel my plan which is also an issue because they pick up right away to sell you a plan. Overall I do NOT recommend this company.

Then I emailed them with No response and it's over 48 hours later. Their excuse.."because of high volume, we can't answer your emails....
I have both dogs insured with them... one for a couple of years and the other one for 6 months. They have paid for one dog's medications and now they're asking for his medical records because they are saying the medication has to do with a pre-existing condition ... Why did they pay for the medication before? My other dog had a bought of an upset tummy and that claim would go to my deductible however they're waiting for the medical records from my vet (sent to them in October). I have had a policy was Embrace Pet Insurance on my dog since 2012. I have been submitting claims for Clyde since he was enrolled, never to have one denied. His claims have included multiple visits for infections, fevers, cellulitis. As a Veterinarian I am able to get a lot of my pets' medical care for discounts. This along with a premium spike caused me to drop insurance on my other dogs several years ago. I kept Clyde's insurance because he had an extensive medical history that had always been covered, so it was worth keeping the insurance.
Recently (12/24/2021) Clyde was admitted to the hospital with a fever and later determined, infection. This visit was very similar to the visit that was covered in June 2017 so I expected that it would be covered. I submitted the claim, for $9,055.13 and was denied due to it being a pre-existing condition. I reported the issue to the claims adjuster and was told his previous claims should not have been covered and it was an "error" on their companies part. This "error" misled me into continuing to pay premiums for Clyde after I discontinued insurance on my other pets.
Had I known that future claims for the same problem, that was previously covered, would not be covered I would have never continued paying claims as it is not advantageous to me as a Veterinarian. The company has been terrible to work with and has just told me about the "error" on their part. As a Veterinarian and an a high level dog sport competitor I will be discontinuing my insurance with them and will not be recommending them.
Hello Erin,
I apologize for any disappointment you've experienced with your claim! According to the adjuster who reviewed Clyde's claim, the immune mediated neutropenia was noted prior to the start of the policy, making it a pre-existing condition. Although the other claims submitted may be similar, the medical records we received for the recent claim specifically indicated the infection and symptoms were likely caused by the immune mediated neutropenia condition. As we were not able to rule out the condition as the cause of the symptoms, we were unfortunately unable to provide coverage. However, any time you feel it was an incorrect assessment you do have the option to appeal. I see the adjuster has provided information to you in regard to the appeal process, but if you have any additional questions or concerns, please give us a call at 800-511-9172 or you can reach out to your adjuster via email.

They sent me an email saying I could pay in one large lump sum or they would send me to collections. They sent me this note on a holiday. I cancelled a little after Christmas. Here it is, almost two weeks later and they jump the gun to send a notice out like this. I have never been sent to collections or received a threat like this. It is unethical for them to cancel and not tell me they would be charging me for the next 6 months. To send out a threatening email like this, two weeks later, lets me know what kind of company they are.
Hello Joy,
I apologize for any disappointment you experienced with your policy! Per the terms and conditions, the insurance policy is there to help with unexpected accidents or illnesses that may occur and does not provide coverage for routine and preventative care. Vaccinations and a spay/neuter surgery are considered routine care and are only eligible for reimbursement under the Wellness Rewards plan. The Wellness plan is not insurance and functions more as a budgeting tool or health savings account. Because it is meant to be a 12-month program you pay into, if the policy is canceled early and you have been paid out more than you have paid in to the plan, Embrace does reserve the right to collect any outstanding balance owed toward the program. We do strive to be as upfront as possible about the terms and this information is included in the acknowledgements upon purchase, in the terms and conditions document, and in the Wellness Rewards Certificate of Coverage. I sincerely apologize for any offense caused by the email, as that was not our intention, but we are required to notify you of the outstanding balance for compliance reasons. When originally signing up the person I worked with to explain the policy was very nice. At the end of the conversation I thought I had a clear understanding of what was covered vs what was "wellness". She also did not explain there was a deductible to be met. I made sure the sales rep knew that I had no previous hx other than what I was given from the adoption center, and that she was only 6 months old at the time of application and no vets were available to see her beyond that. They were all booked up and we had to wait. She hadn't even been spayed yet. She assured me this wouldn't interfere.
The first claim I ever submitted took almost 3 months to clear claiming they needed more info and her medical history was incomplete. THIS was NOT so. I had already submitted through email and uploading on the app, everything I had per the conversation with the sales rep. They still claimed I needed a year's worth of hx. Finally got the claim approved only to be told it would be put towards the deductible. I then had three more emergencies with her having problems with parasites, and picking up stuff from other dogs. One I didn't even bother submitting. The last emergency I put a claim in for she again had bleeding from her rectum and could not be seen except on an emergency basis. I was told that the bill was a "wellness" bill and I only received 134.00 back from an almost 500$ claim.
I am EXTREMELY disappointed so far in the customer service except when I was purchasing. That's unacceptable. The clarity via conversations complete differed after the policy was in place and paid for. I pay for a policy that is supposed to reimburse me 70%. The last emergency was NOT a wellness visit. She was bleeding out her rectum again due to an unknown parasite. Even the vet said this. There was a new strain that they had been seeing from dogs that had been popping up. Tests to determine emergency bleeding from the rectum and fecal matter is NOT a wellness check.
Yes I have a policy I can read, but the point is what I was told I was buying and what I got are not the same thing. I felt misled. The first claim was only supposed to take a few weeks to be approved per multiple phone conversations and the original sales consult. Since having Nala, I have had to take her into an emergency situation OUTSIDE of normal care multiple times and paying a monthly fee for the insurance barely covers and takes care of what I needed so far. I have already begun to shop elsewhere beyond what I did before I signed up for Embrace.
Hello Kaile,
I sincerely apologize for any frustration you've experienced in regard to your policy! Although we do try to reimburse claims as quickly as possible, sometimes the first accident or illness claim submitted can take longer when we do not have the full pre-policy medical history on file. Now that it has been confirmed complete, I assure you the claims process is much smoother and the standard processing time is about 10-15 business days. In regard to your most recent claim submitted, out of the total billed amount of $443.70, the insurance covered $425.64. A portion of it did go toward meeting your remaining $256.74 annual deductible. Now that it has been met for this policy term year, any other covered claims you submit for this term will be reimbursed at an 80% reimbursement rate and we will continue to reimburse until you have reached your annual maximum for the year. The one item that was considered Wellness was the Proviable nutritional supplement. Unfortunately, we are only able to cover FDA approved prescription drugs under the insurance policy.
We strive to be as upfront as possible about the policy terms and conditions and definitely do not want you to feel disappointed or misled in any way! We're more than happy to go over the policy and the Explanation of Benefits for the claim if you have any additional questions or concerns. Please don't hesitate to give us a call at 800-511-9172.

Being a pet owner for some is just about having an animal to satisfy a child's whim or a spur of the moment decision brought on by the random cuteness of said animal. For others, pets are just as much a part of the family as the humans who are allowed to share the house with them. Caring for those pets is paramount to these owners. Finding the RIGHT "Pet Insurance" is vital because it gives peace of mind when those unexpected emergencies arise or general care of your fur baby. EMBRACE PET INSURANCE - is the absolute BEST! The Customer Service Reps are always quick to respond to questions and find answers. Claims are handled quickly and deposit refunds directly into your bank account within a few days (if that's the option chosen). There are multiple plans to choose from as well. Their new app makes filing claims super easy and I don't have to rely on the Vet to do it anymore. They review and pay claims timely (within just a few days). Recently, we had a very scary emergency. I had questions about coverage and limits. When I called, the Embracer was so kind, empathetic, and knowledgeable. He even got me to laugh a little (unintentionally) and that was a stress reliever. I am very grateful for their high quality customer service. As our dog has gotten older, the premiums have increased, but it has been worth it to have a "major medical" policy to rely on.

I've used Embrace for more than a decade, and premium increases have been modest; service has been good. However, I'm shocked to see a greater than 50% increase this year, now that my dog is 11 and has her first health condition. Seems this is great insurance when you don't need it.
Hello Amy,
I understand it can be frustrating to see the premium has increased! Premiums do increase over time with all insurance products, and pet insurance is no exception. Some of the factors that impact premiums each year include the age of a pet, breed, tenure, and veterinary costs in the zip code where the pet resides. Our premiums are set by our underwriter and they are based on actuarial data (overall claims trends)and approved by each state’s Department of Insurance. All pet insurance companies increase premiums based on similar factors - because this is a newer industry, the data will continually change as the industry grows. One thing we do not do is drop pets or change coverage as a pet ages, and some companies are starting to find that is necessary because of the high cost of claims related to insuring older pets. You do always have the option to adjust your coverage in other ways though to bring your premium price down. For example, increasing your deductible, decreasing your reimbursement percentage, or decreasing your annual maximum. If you are interested in exploring these options, you can look at different coverage options through your MyEmbrace portal under "Coverage Change," or you may call our Customer Care Center at 800-511-9172 and one of our representatives will be happy to assist you!

My dogs are currently 12. I got Embrace policies for them as puppies, because I wanted them to have coverage when they were older. Embrace did allow me to see any vet and did pay the claims. If you are looking for pet insurance for a puppy, hoping it will carry protection when they are older, Embrace raised the cost of the policies such that it would cost $1,000+ more year per pet to have pet insurance, on a max claim, than to not. I didn't catch this earlier, the higher premiums started when they were 9-10 but I didn't pause to do the math. I regret not going with a different pet insurance company from the start and want to warn others who are shopping for insurance for puppies. They told me it is not based on health conditions or claims- simply the age of the dog, breed of dog, and zip code.
Hello Alyssa,
I understand it can be frustrating when you see the premium has increased! Premiums increase over time as a cost of business with all pet insurance companies. Just as humans tend to get sick more frequently as we age, so do our pets. Dogs and cats tend to need more frequent and costly veterinary care as they get older, and that means higher pet insurance premiums over time with every company. Embrace does not alter coverage or drop pets due to age like some other insurance companies do. I understand this does not bring good news and I apologize for any disappointment you’ve experienced. If you have additional questions or concerns, or would like to go over it further, please don’t hesitate to give us a call at 800-511-9172.

I am very disappointed in this company. They have failed to unlawfully cover a surgery, so I will be cancelling my membership at the end of the term, pursuing contract review and assistance with my team, and I hope that if you're considering them for long-term, emergent coverage, you reconsider. While they are willing to cover small costs, large costs are definitely in question. I also can't believe my husband's USAA account refers to this company.
My dog has had ongoing discharge and blood from her vulva since May 2021 (our policy started in November 2020). I took her in for testing and diagnostics for this discharge, and we were referred to a surgeon for a SUSPECTED ovarian remnant after antibiotics were ineffective, and she came back with a positive hormone test. Normally, discharge isn't a big deal, but it was causing an infection through her body. They denied my claim for surgery saying an ovarian remnant is a complication of a spay surgery. Which even if it was, she was spayed 11 years ago, so that's kind of ridiculous it would be a "complication".
I appealed this decision because I felt they were misinformed on what we were actually dealing with. A normal ovarian remnant is when ovarian tissue is left or not completely removed during the surgery...or maybe it was dropped (very rare). The exploratory performed by the surgeon concluded there was no ovarian tissue left or dropped. He even receded the pedicles from where the ovaries attach.... and took a biopsy to test for ovarian tissue, and they came back negative, clearly determining the spay was performed adequately.
The surgeon, who performed Bella's exploratory, wrote a letter for appeal, completely detailing how this circumstance isn't a spay complication. I was referred for a suspected ovarian remnant, but after he did the exploratory and took off part of her pedicles to biopsy and test for remnants...which came back negative, it was clear that's not what we were dealing with. He explained that he believes she has potential ectopic ovarian tissue and even stated it was congenital (a birth defect). He made it clear it would not be part of a routine spay surgery. So it's classified as a birth abnormality, not a spay complication.
They still are failing to acknowledge the difference and educate on the circumstance at hand. We are dealing with such a rare abnormality and a dog we can't find a cure on, and I was so happy to know I had pet insurance for this moment, and now I'm seriously disappointed in even trusting them when they have clear evidence in front of them, but they're still unlawfully denying the claim.
Hello Valerie,
I am sorry to hear you had a negative experience with your claims for Bella! Per the terms and conditions of the policy, we are unable to cover pre-existing conditions, which is anything that was symptomatic or diagnosed prior to starting the policy or through the initial waiting periods. The appeal was unable to be overturned because the underlying cause of the vaginal discharge has not yet been determined. However, I do see it was explained to you that in the future, if the underlying cause is definitively diagnosed and the cause is something other than a spay complication, we will be able to re-evaluate the decision and the claims. I understand this is disappointing, but we are required to abide by the terms and conditions of the policy.

All of my former pets got ear infections about once a year, and none of them had allergies. They automatically assigned his ear infection an “allergy related ear infection” (even though the vet did not say this was allergy related at all). Therefore they did not pay. My cat recently had a bout of bad luck ending up at an ER, Urgent Care and several vet visits within a week. I submitted all the claims to Embrace -which was really easy-and in no time had my refund! I highly recommend them! Great customer service, easy to get ahold of and quick, efficient service.

It is wonderful that Embrace offers Wellness coverage in addition to illness/accident insurance. If you are proactive pet parents and would do anything for your fur babies, then you can't go wrong with Embrace. The claims have been processed extremely quickly, and they are fair, kind, and compassionate.
Hi Danielle,
Thank you for the great review! The wellness plan is a great add-on to the policy to help cover for all the routine care that your pets get, and I am happy you are utilizing it! Sometimes they return a physical address, sometimes not. At this time I have not received a check, my fault. Changed method of reimbursement to Direct Deposit as of today. *****
Hello Barbara,
Thank you for the review! We try to make it as easy as possible for our pet parents. I am glad that you caught the address, and were able to set up direct deposit. I went ahead and let the billing team know that you have not received this check yet, and they will do a little digging for you. Once they confirm that it was not received, they will resubmit for direct deposit.

Thank you for caring. It means a lot.

I have been real happy with Embrace Insurance so far for my one dog with the exception that the rate increased 34% the second year we had it. Claims can easily be done online and is very efficient. We got insurance for our new rescue lab because two previous purebred labs blew out all of their knees and we paid for 3 surgeries. Thankfully after a complete physical our little rescue lab got a good orthopedic exam and clean bill of health. Even though the rate went up a lot, it's nice having the peace of mind that she is covered.
Hi Timothy,
We are happy to have you as a part of the Embrace family! We know that rate increases can be hard to adjust to, but we would be happy to go over some options you may have to adjust the coverage to reduce the premium down for you, if you would like. I am happy to hear that everything turned out great for the orthopedic exam, and hope that their knees stay that way!
If you would like to discuss the rate increase further, please give us a call at 800-511-9172.

Our dog required emergency GDV surgery that involved two different emergency facilities and an extra night stay in the hospital to recover. I submitted the claims within days, and the claims were processed impressively fast. We received a check for payment within two weeks of the surgery date and have been very pleased with how easy and quick the process was. Only one item was not covered as it was considered "preventive" - which seemed odd given this was an emergent situation, but the cost of the item was low enough that it wasn't worth worrying about. Overall truly impressed and happy. So glad we have this insurance for our dog.
Hi Diana,
Thank you for taking the time to write this review. We hope that Bernie is doing much better for you! I took a look at your claim just to confirm the item that was considered preventative, and it looks like it was a supplement that was given to your pet. Supplements are not eligible for coverage under the insurance policy, but are eligible under the optional add-on wellness plan. I am happy that you are happy otherwise! We truly appreciate your honest review.

We got the insurance for our two dogs and we were paying over $130 a month which was fine because we love our dogs, but literally every time we made a claim there was a reason they wouldn’t pay it (We made two claims. One for each dog). Our first one was an orthopedic surgery where they said she had to be on the insurance for At least 6 months so we were like “okay that makes sense so people don’t take advantage of the insurance” and we paid our $6000 surgery out of pocket.
A few weeks later (mind you we’ve had the insurance for months now) our other dog was throwing up and had a swollen foot so I took him in. The insurance wouldn’t cover this because “Sergeant threw up a couple months ago and so we won’t cover him until he goes a full year without throwing up” so they didn’t cover this vet bill either. So literally your pet has to be completely healthy and out of the vet for a year before they will pretty much cover anything. Don’t forget the whole “we need all of your previous medical documents“ or they won’t cover you either. The only good side of this is the customer service is always happy and readily available to answer your calls and then explain why your pet won’t be covered.
Hello Amber,
I am so sorry that you had a bad experience. We try to make what qualifies as a pre-existing condition as clear as we can when signing up for the policy. Pre-existing conditions would be anything symptomatic or diagnosed prior to the start of the policy, and within the waiting periods. Here at Embrace we do differentiate between temporary and permanent pre-existing conditions. Permanent pre-existing conditions would be anything incurable and chronic, such as cancer or allergies. Permanent pre-existing conditions will not be eligible under the policy.
Temporary pre-existing conditions are curable issues that your pet may have during the time period listed above, such as vomiting or coughing. If your pet can go 12 consecutive months without any signs or symptoms related to the temporary condition, then that would be eligible to be removed in the future as a pre-existing condition. The reason for the 12 month time period on this is because temporary conditions can be symptoms of something permanent. Once the 12 month time frame is up, we can recollect medical history to determine if the temporary pre-existing condition can be removed or not.
As always, we are happy to help with any questions you may have. Please feel free to give us a call.

I had to cancel my plan for my pet because the monthly premiums went up significantly in the two years I had her enrolled. My rates went up almost 50% even though we only had a few small and inexpensive claims. It was very upsetting because otherwise I really liked the experience. The website was easy to use and the coverage was good. You really should let people know when they enroll to expect their premiums to increase significantly, or even better, don't increase the premiums so much!
Hello Lisa,
I understand it can be frustrating when you see the premium has increased. Premiums do increase over time as a cost of business with all pet insurance companies. The industry is growing steadily and there are many other factors like trends associated with age, breed, gender, cost of vet services, and cost of living. Currently, the claims you submit do not affect your premium, we look at overall claims trends associated with your pet’s breed, age, species, and location. Our goal is to be as upfront as possible in regard to the policy terms and conditions, and we do explain that the policy premium is subject to change due to age, vet costs, or changes to the policy in the acknowledgments when signing up, but I apologize if there was any misunderstanding.
Take care,

Filing a claim with this company has to be one of the worst experiences someone can go through, other than losing their pet. I was denied over and over for claims and appeals despite having numerous vets send in letters supporting my claim. It took me getting USAA involved and speaking with the director of claims at Embrace (who was snotty and condescending) to get my claim covered. They admitted they didn’t do a full review of my claim for my appeal which delayed everything. They even had the wrong diagnosis listed. No one would listen or they didn’t have the power to make a change. Try and stay away from them if you can.
Hello Ryan,
I am sorry to hear about your negative experience with Embrace and also, I'm very sorry for the loss of Charlie. I understand your frustration with the situation and you are right, we did make an error in our decision on the first appeal. We had an incorrect diagnosis listed that led us to incorrectly not cover the claims. Once our Director of Claims was made aware of the situation, the error was remedied and all the claims were covered. I apologize that this happened to you, I know how frustrating it can be to have to talk to several people to try to clarify the situation. I appreciate your patience with us as we reviewed your situation and remedied the error.
As Kate is still insured with us, I hope we are able to provide you with a much more positive experience if she ever needs to use her insurance policy.

Wellness claim for puppy shots was still pending after 2 weeks - asking for medical records they already had. Not worth the trouble. The one good thing I can say about them is that their customer service representatives on the phone are excellent - very friendly and professional.
Hello Jennifer,
Thank you for taking the time to say such nice things about our Customer Service Representatives, I'll be sure to pass your kind words on to them.
Regarding your claim experience, I am sorry it did not go as smoothly as we hope. I see that the claim you submitted for Scout included both routine Wellness Rewards items (vaccines, monthly heartworm, flea, and tick prevention, etc) as well as charges that were incurred for an illness (skin/ear cytology and prescription ear medication). When we receive a claim that has mixed charges for both Wellness Rewards reimbursement and illness insurance, we have to evaluate for both at the same time. I understand this can be frustrating because you ultimately did not want the illness items evaluated. I see that we got that note on 7/9/21 (that you wished for only the Wellness Rewards item to be assessed) and the claim was processed later the same day. I'm sorry this took longer than expected; hopefully, the next claim for Scout takes less time.

I am so thankful for the peace of mind I get from Embrace! They have been amazing with my Sweet Begonia. She is a beautiful healthy three year old xoloitzcuintli and it did not break me financially when she developed kidney disease that required a kidney biopsy and is now managed thru medication. Embrace handles every claim with efficiency and the money is always back in my account so quickly. If I ever need help or have questions about a claim, the Embracers are wonderful, caring and effective. I will never own another animal without pet insurance. She recently had an intestinal issue and the claims were paid and the money was in my account before the vet bill charge could go from pending to actual in my bank account. We have been with Embrace since 2010 and I am beyond SO ETERNALLY grateful for this amazing company and family! Without them, I’d never have be able to afford to give my 4lb tea cup yorkie (little angel in a doggy body) an amazing life that every pet and animal deserve. When I got 8 week old Bella my mom told me to get pet insurance. Hands down, Embrace seemed like the best across the board. They were clear on their annual cap and reimbursement percentage per claim so that’s who I went with. I would have never expected to need to them as soon as I did when Bella was viciously attacked at just 3 months old.
Without Embrace, I wouldn’t have been able to afford Bella’s life saving ER care after the owner (of the white Malamute which was off a leash while she rollerbladed) took off leaving me with not just a disheartened heart in humanity, but also left me with a hefty medical bill followed by a year of intense home health care, medication, re-integration therapy, and doctor visits for Bella. Embrace annual fee is worth every single penny!
