Bought pet insurance with wellness for almost $100 a month because I had expected to need it for my dog. I had multiple vet inspections prior to buying the insurance and my dog is healthy. I took her to get fixed and submitted the claim promptly to Embrace. It took two months with a large number of calls and emails to both Embrace and my vet to get the claim approved. Embrace kept sending my vet requests for a full medical chart on my dog, which my vet didn't have. Embrace insisted they needed this to consider my claim. The only time anything happened was when I was actively calling Embrace to move it forward.
Ultimately, after several different Embrace service reps, I got one that told me they could just send the vet a questionnaire in lieu of a medical file. The claims manager never did that. Several other service reps never said that. I never would've known if I didn't constantly have to follow up on it. I have 2 stars instead of 1 because it finally got approved. Very expensive service especially when you have to do all the work yourself. Wouldn't recommend.
We are sorry to hear of your frustration with the claims process, Scott. Although we try to process claims as quickly as possible, sometimes it can take longer to process the first claim if there are accident or illness related charges as we gather your pet's complete medical history. Obtaining medical history is a process we are continuously working to improve. We work directly with your vet to gather any additional medical records needed to review your pet’s complete medical history and we copy you on any email request to keep you in the loop. While you certainly don't have to, it can be helpful if you reach out to your veterinarian as well to let them know we need additional documentation. The good news is once your pet's medical history has has been established, the claims submission experience should be easier and more straightforward with our standard processing time being 10-15 business days.

I have never dealt with such lousy pet insurance in my life. They ask you over and over for the same documents from me and the veterinarian. Always trying to deny your claim. They scrutinized every piece of paper trying to find a way not to reimburse you a penny. These veterinarians are trying to save or prolong the lives of our pets rather than have to write a book on their non preexisting conditions. I hate I got involved with this company. Now they are not going to cover any of one of my dogs dermatology skin issues because they are trying to say it was a preexisting condition which is a boldface lie because I got him as a 0 to 12 week old puppy from a reputable GSD breed that had no skin issues I think until the end of last year or the beginning of this year.
He just turned 2 years old this past May 23. How can you label something preexisting when it just started? STUPID!! I will be contacting the attorney general and the insurance commissioner about this. Now I can’t get another pet insurance to cover this now preexisting skin condition. How fair is that?!! I always paid in in good faith and do expected to be treated in good faith. BEWARE EVERYONE. RIPOFF CON ARTIST COMPANY!!! That’s all they are to me.

I recently had my oldest dog at the emergency vet for a dog bite and then her wound opened up, requiring several vet visits. Embrace was very easy to work with for the claims. They have an easy application on the phone that I was able to upload all of her invoices on and could easily communicate with Embrace. My claims were quick to be approved and the direct deposit was quick to be back in my account. Highly recommended!

It took nearly six weeks to get my first claim responded to only to have it denied. When I first joined I authorized full access to my dog's medical records. My German shepherd was 6 years old and very healthy. No preexisting conditions and regular vet care. At one visit a year before I added insurance, I talked to my vet about itching just to get some baseline info. They offered ** if I thought it would make our dog more comfortable. As I read up on it, I decided along with my vet that Jazzy did not need to continue it.
Four months after we started her with insurance she had an ear hematoma with no clear cause. Embrace linked the hematoma to a a dermatitis skin condition when jazzy has never been confirmed as having that PLUS her hematoma could be caused by several other things than itching. I felt the subsequent communication and review of our claim was very perfunctory and difficult. A very disappointing first experience with insurance.
We are sorry to hear you were disappointed with a recent claim, Sue. Although we try to process claims as quickly as possible, sometimes it can take longer to process the first accident or illness claim. Obtaining medical history is a process we are continuously working to improve. We work directly with your vet to gather any additional medical records needed to review your pet’s complete medical history and we copy you on any email request to keep you in the loop. The good news is once your pet's medical history has has been established, future claims tend to process much quicker and our standard processing time is 10-15 business days.
We are unable to provide coverage for pre-existing conditions, which would mean your pet was showing signs, symptoms, or diagnosed with the related condition within the year prior to the policy purchase or within the waiting periods. There is a 2 day accident waiting period, a 14 day illness waiting period, and a 6 month orthopedic waiting period for dogs. We do however distinguish between temporary and permanent pre-existing conditions. If a pre-existing conditions is deemed temporary, if your pet goes 12 consecutive months without any recurrent signs or symptoms it could be eligible for expiration so we can provide coverage in the future. I see you already spoke with one of our team members, but if you have any additional questions, please give us call at 800-511-9172 and we’re happy to help!

I have been an Embrace customer for several years and I love them. Like any product or service you have to read and understand your policy so you know what you are buying. If you know what you are getting you will not be disappointed. Recently I added a rescue to my policy and she ended up being pretty sick. Embrace and I went back and forth on what was pre-existing. The first list I was provide troubled me as it was extensive. I filed a request for a review and what Embrace came back with was so much better and I was very happy. There was still one condition that I wanted to discuss with them. My pup was very sick and the medical history was complicated and the timeline from visiting several vets was hard to put all the pieces together. I expected the Embrace team to grow tired of my back and forth and reject my final plea but they really listened and really worked to understand the order of events.
It took a few months but the underwriting finally was able to see the big picture. I was so overjoyed that they reprocessed several claims and paid out almost $1500 the next day. Embrace has won my loyalty. Thank you Embrace for taking care of my pet family. A big thanks to Alissa **, Claims Adjuster and Rachel **, Chief Underwriter on behalf of American Modern Home Insurance Company for being my advocates.

I purchased this insurance for my new puppy and thought the $250 wellness benefits were a good idea. After 6 months I started turning in my vet receipts for the wellness benefits claims. The first round of receipts were returned and I was asked to provide a full print out with taxes, discounts, etc. I got this info from the vet in PDF and submitted them to Embrace only to be told that the receipts were not legible....They were perfectly clear PDFs with no password. I ended up cancelling after realizing they were never going to pay any of the wellness benefit claims.

Total waste of money. I got this for my dogs and sure enough had to file a claim. They kept asking for info and rejecting the very detailed reports the vets gave them, only to ask for the exact same report again to reject it again! Then rather than just reject my claim they placed it “on hold” probably hoping I would just forget about it…and I nearly did, but I check my credit card and the charge for their “service” reminded me. Well after numerous emails and phone calls it became clear that their goal was to get me to just give up. Which I did with a cancellation. Don’t waste your time with Embrace. They are a waste of money.

I have never written a review before in my life. That is how angry I am about my experience with this company. I originally bought a comprehensive insurance plan for my dog and then was even sold a further wellness plan by an agent on the phone to supplement illness and accident. I did this mainly because at some point I wanted to get my dog’s teeth cleaned. Little did I know, that would never happen because a vet already identified that my dog has tartar on his teeth. So beware. But what actually happened was even worse.
My dog was recently sick with gastroenteritis which lead to several visits to urgent care. And in order to get treatment it was recommended that I have several expensive tests like and x-ray, bloodwork and fecal test. Normally, because I don’t earn that much money, I would have waited it out several days and stressed myself out because I couldn’t afford the tests. This time I had insurance. Or so I thought.
After waiting an extensive period of time where Embrace harassed all of my vets for information that was sent to them numerous times, they declined all of my claims because ONE WEEK short of a year ago, my dog had possible nausea noted in a wellness visit to the vet. So they are calling it a pre-existing condition. Something akin to the common cold is being called a pre-existing condition. I don’t know how they say that with a straight face. When I go into my account and read my policy it doesn’t say anything about this unless you get really into the weeds of the fine print but that is what they lean on to deny claims, meanwhile their agents are not telling you this when they are selling the policies.
Regardless, it’s not even valid because there was nothing wrong with my dog at that time. I happened to mention that he had eaten grass. The vet said he could be nauseous, but it turns out my dog just likes to eat grass. I was there for a vaccine, not illness. And now I’m out $3000 that I didn’t have and don’t know how I’m going to pay it. They will find any reason possible not to pay your claim. Buyer beware. Also, they only work East Coast business hours and their hold times are hellacious so even though while in the urgent care I did try to call to confirm coverage, I was never able to reach anyone. Please be very careful and make sure you read all of the fine print and don’t assume they will cover anything even if they proclaim it. I lost my faith in humanity a little this week.

Too many hoops to get reimbursed. Also pay a deductible and to find out you got to pay a copay on top of that. (EXAMPLE) paid out of pocket like 1189.00 from a 1345.00 bill.... and paid 56.00 dollars a month for a year before I even used the ins. (SO CALLED INS.) SO PLEASE SHOP AROUND BEFORE YOU GIVE THEM FREE MONEY. THAT WAS MY EXPERIENCE. I could of saved that 56 dollars a month and paid for the vet bill myself and at time of emergency only paid 300 instead of 1100.00 out of my pocket.

Insurance is horrible! Submitted my first claim that was under $150 and getting the complete run around. They are trying to say everything is a pre-existing condition. I sent in requested pet records for time they requested and then they asked for more records for different time. I feel like they are searching for a reason to not reimburse for the claim. My dog went to vet for diarrhea and limping on front leg. Neither pre-existing conditions. She has rotating patella on back leg but never issue with front in past. Waiting a month and still no decision on the claim. I canceled with them. Horrible pet insurance.

I can't recommend Embrace enough. When talking about pet insurance with friends and colleagues, I often hear that it is a scam. But having Embrace has paid for itself several times over financially and in peace of mind. My dog has had two very costly emergencies and Embrace has covered both. During this second emergency, if he was not insured I likely would have had to put him to sleep. Embrace has followed through and helped save my dog's life twice, while saving me from financial ruin. Do not let bad reviews/experiences deter you from protecting your pet. Read the policy closely and insure your pet early. It could end up saving your pet's life. All and all, comparing policies, cost and trustworthiness, Embrace is one of the best pet insurance companies out there. I am so glad I have it more my dog.

For years, I've been paying nearly $200/month for my older dog. I've never filed a claim once. In July, she suddenly needed serious dental work (a lot to process financially and emotionally). I'm 9 months pregnant, working full-time, and have been juggling a lot. Yesterday, I sat down to formally file the claim. That's when I learned the window closed 2 weeks ago. I had no idea there even was a claim window---apparently this is only after a policy renews. The rep told me my renewal was 6 days after the procedure (seriously, just 6 days!). For that reason, the window kicked in and they won't even consider the claim. Had the emergency happened a week later, there'd be no issues, which is a reality I'm struggling to wrap my head around. I can't begin to describe how disappointed I am with Embrace, or how stupid I feel for giving them so much money over the past few years...
The policy doesn't cover preventive care (I have to pay *another* plan for that), only emergencies; so, now that I'm finally facing one, I can't believe Embrace won't consider reviewing it given how close it was to the renewal... This is an unfathomably profitable company. I'm not sure how a business taking in *so much money* from its customers won't even offer an appeals process. There's nothing patient- or client-centered about Embrace. If you're in the unfortunate position of working with them, please do yourself a favor and (1) read through every fine line of your policy, (2) set calendar reminders for policy renewals, and (3) file all claims immediately. Embrace's policies and procedures are designed to make reimbursement as challenging as possible.

They are very easy to use and they have features like get an orthopedic exam and coverage starts early. I have the insurance and wellness for a one-year female pitbull mix (first) and 3-year-old male boxer I just rescued. I’ve used the wellness two times and one illness for kennel cough this past week.
It’s easy, convenient all claims are submitted from your phone and phone reimbursement completed either by check or direct deposit. Reimbursement is quick and easy. The only thing I would change is there should be more than $650 in wellness. I only have $350 left and I have another round of vaccines and heat-worm test and only received three months of flea and tick. It’s easier to pay a little bit a month but it will all out of pocket. I’m going to put a little bit away now (that’s the only thing I wish was more.) Overall, very satisfied with Embrace!

I’m pleased that Embrace was easy to submit a claim to and responded in a timely fashion. However I am displeased that they consider diarrhea for my puppy a preexisting condition despite the cause of it being completely different. My puppy had been treated for worms before I signed up for the insurance. This caused a brief period of diarrhea. But after having my policy she had a very bad case of gastroenteritis unrelated to the worms. Regardless, this is labeled a preexisting condition for the next year and they did not reimburse me a complete amount due to this. It’s a shame and will make me consider switching to other insurance in the future.

I wish I had read these reviews before changing over to Embrace Pet Insurance. I wholeheartedly agree with the people who were taken in by pre-existing conditions of lipomas and tartar, which apparently was the reason my claim was denied...And will be denied in the future for any of these reasons. I told my vet how they are even lumping the catch-all, "including cancer," as a pre-existing condition; she was appalled. Just to be clear, my dog has never had cancer. I spoke with a representative, who was syrupy (and condescendingly) sweet, but could provide no reason why I should even have pet insurance. Each hypothetical injury/disease was met with the standard "well, it depends on XYZ" or "each case is different." Bottom line, they will do and/or say anything to get out of helping to pay your bill.
In fact, if I had set aside the money I paid in premiums, I would have saved close to the actual bill amount. Because this company is associated with USAA, I thought it would be better than a basic insurance company. Boy, was I wrong! Save yourself heartache and time by "paying" yourself the premium cost and using that to take care of the bills.
We are sorry to hear you were disappointed with your policy, Kelli. We want to assure you we love paying claims. In fact, 92% of our claims qualify for coverage! I brought her to a gastrointestinal vet who said this was dietary and she has never had a problem since. When I was doing my due diligence. The sales team at Embrace told me that if there are no issues after one year we will cover her completely. Well, guess what? After having this policy for one year, we just went up for a review. Not only was I told she will never be covered for any gastrointestinal issues. They also mentioned that her dermatological issue will be covered after a year has passed. FYI, it was an ear infection!! Stay away from this company!! Everyone is nice until they have to pay. Bye, Bye Embrace!!

If you've taken your pet to the vet before, Embrace is likely not for you. My expectation was clear pre-existing conditions would be covered but had no idea how one-sided their rulings would be with an intentionally cumbersome appeal process. Had your dog in for the vet to look at a benign cyst a year ago? Embrace's stance: "All types of cancers are permanently ineligible for coverage" Our pet recently was cut on his stomach accidentally by the groomer and Embrace determined that an ear infection a year prior made it ineligible since it was related to the "derm." We were highly dissatisfied with their claim process and their support team.

My cat Felix passed away last Saturday and today I called Embrace to let them know. They showed a lot of empathy and told me that they would expedite my opened claims that I submitted last weekend. They helped me through the process of getting all of my previous vet's medical history, as well as getting a pre-certification filled out by the emergency veterinary surgeon, so as to have the best chance to get her surgery covered. Thanks to all of their help and guidance Ducky was pre-approved within ONE DAY, 12 hours after my first phone call with Embrace, she was approved. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY! I have always had pets and never had pet insurance until recently. I purchased this policy and Embrace found a way to essentially carve out every possible body part on my dog including anything dermatological, because she was itchy at one vet visit.. Show me a dog who was never itchy for a 12 month period of time, because that is apparently what it takes to be covered... In any case in my opinion the insurance is a total waste of time and money and the adjuster on our file was condescending and just plain rude. Wouldn't recommend this to anyone.

A lot of red tape - which by design or default may lead you to avoid filing a claim! Embrace has very specific requirements for Veterinary Clinic invoices that they will or won't accept - if the invoice isn't prepared the way they like... they will reject your claim (or place it on 'hold'... effectively doing the same thing). Embrace didn't substantially follow through with Veterinary Clinics to receive their detailed, specific information requirements. Rather than call the clinic, they just put the claim on 'hold'... which could effectively kill the claim without your intervention. I had to call Embrace and request that they join a 3 way call with the Vet for Embrace to gain the information they required to process my claim. It was an easy fix - that they didn't do themselves... They put our claim 'on hold.'
I found there are a number of detailed requirements that Embrace has to place a claim on hold and effectively burden the claims process to the point where a consumer may feel it is easier to stop pursuing the claim than follow-through on behalf of Embrace. Once you file your first claim, Embrace needs to review the pet's medical history (I was told that they could take up to 30 days to review the history) before deciding on your claim. We had a medical history with the vet for our pets, but it felt like another pathway to deny claims... for pets that don't have/gain a medical history prior to a claim.
Hello Brian, we are sorry to hear you are disappointed with your policy. We do need a complete invoice as well as your pet's full pre-policy medical history in order to process an accident or illness claim. On August 31st, after many vet visits (both emergency and home) the vet recommended that my dog be be euthanized. It was an agonizing decision and she’d been my best friend for 15 years. We made the decision and afterward I submitted my claim which was denied because of a 2020 diagnosis of arthritis (even though the reason for her euthanasia was a tumor on her spleen and her severe decline over two weeks). I wrote back immediately asking for the claim to be reviewed and heard nothing back. I then wrote on September 10th that I wanted to cancel my insurance effective immediately but was charged me $183 on September 12th. This just adds insult to injury. Embrace has been pretty decent with their turnaround times for claims in the last year. But after renewing my policy this year, they have been refusing to process any new claims. They keep asking for more medical records from vet visits despite having provided them with ALL the records from ALL past visits. What's most puzzling is why they need records from 2022 again for vet visits from 2023? They already have those records from the 2022 claims. This just seems like a lazy excuse to not honor their end of the insurance contract.
It appears that the quality of the "claims adjusters" has dramatically declined. A silver lining is that the customer representatives are still nice, but it takes an eternity to get hold of one! I'll update this review if anything changes, but after over 2 months of going back and forth over the claims, I don't have much hope from this company.

My decision to get pet insurance weighed on any potential pre-existing conditions my cat may have, as she's had some urinary issues in the past and I don't want to be surprised if they won't cover future claims. I requested a medical review the day I started my policy, but they require you to wait 14 days. After giving them all the vet information, they say you won't hear anything during the 30 days it takes for them to do the review. After 30 days I follow up several times to see where the results are, to find out that they don't have records from one of the vets. It's now been 40 days and they have sent a single email to the vet, no follow up emails or call (and I didn't know we were waiting on this, not the review or I would've called).
They send another request and I call the vet the same day and they say they've already sent the records and have no record of any other requests being sent! I ask the Embrace rep for proof of their first request and they relent--they did not send a request for 38 days. Apparently "We, unfortunately, cannot monitor each and every request sent daily but we try and make sure everything runs as smoothly as possible." means they send at best one email and do nothing else without your intervention.
At my job, I would be expected to follow up and, if a customer is coming to me after a month of waiting, I would be calling, not emailing, to get a response ASAP. I assume this lack of tenacity extends to their claims processing. Only after sending another email do they promise to rush the actual review.Once I got the review, I noticed they had dates of lab work incorrect so the curable pre-existing conditions wouldn't be waived for an additional 2 months. I'm sure I could've fought this but I didn't see a point. I'd rather just pay vet bills than add this kind of back and forth to my workload. Of course when I asked for the 40 extra days they made me wait for the medical results to be added to my pro-rated refund when I cancelled, they said "we can't do a full refund" which was not what I was asking for. Their attention to detail is atrocious. This was a waste of my time and $100.

I've have insured my dog with Embrace for 12 years, a reliable customer who pays his bills on time. When my dog turned 10 years old the annual premium started climbing rapidly, making it hard to afford the cost of insuring with them. Then, this year Embrace dramatically increased my annual premium, this time by 50% to $4000 annually, including a $1000 deductible. My annual insurance I have seen their rates climb ever since my dog developed an arthritic condition. I talked to the President's office at Embrace to get some relief, and was told that I should blame the "State" and that Massachusetts pet insurance actuarial tables are driving the 50% increase in my premium. Human insurance rates can get expensive as well, but the cost for caring for the elderly is typically offset by the smaller claims they expect from the young.
My children both have pet insurance, and one has a dog the same age as my dog. Both kids have been paying much lower premiums for their coverage for many years, and neither has seen a sudden rate increase of anything like 50% per year. I have asked Embrace's President to send me proof that the State of Massachusetts is the cause for my rate increase of 50% per year, and for my $4000 annual premium.
From my perspective Embrace has been profiting for many years from insuring young dogs, and benefiting from the fact that young dogs rarely recover the value of their annual premium. I would warn anyone who believes that being loyal to the same insurance company year after year will lower your costs when your dog get old, at least with Embrace. I was told by Embrace that as long as a dog does not have a prior illness for 6 months before they get insured it doesn't matter whether they were ever insured by Embrace. The lesson learned is to buy the cheapest possible insurance for puppies and young dogs. I always knew that Embrace is expensive, but I had thought that it would pay to stick with them. What foolishness!
Hello Stephen, we are sorry to hear that. We know premium increases are not ideal. Premiums do increase over time with all insurance products, and pet insurance is no exception. Some of the factors that impact premiums each year include the age of a pet, breed, and veterinary costs in the zip code where the pet resides. Our premiums are based on actuarial data, and approved by each state’s Department of Insurance. Over the lifetime with any pet insurance company you are likely to see very similar trends, it just may vary when the increase happens. If your dog has ever had tartar in the past noted in their chart or currently has tartar and is seen for a loose tooth requiring pain medication, forget about Embrace reimbursing. They'll use that as an excuse to deny a claim because they consider tartar a pre-existing condition. Which is absurd, because just about every dog or cat has tartar, yet, they advertise they cover dental problems to include extractions. This is bait and switch as far as I'm concerned. I've had my little dog Coco insured through Embrace, with a high deductible no less, since adopting her from a hoarding situation with 45 dogs when she was 11 months old, and they've pretty much denied every claim for one reason or another.

Embrace is a easy accessible pet insurance company, but costs increased exponentially as the years went on. I insured 2 dogs under a very good plan. So I expected to pay more. But a $200 annual increase kept going up over ten years to the last two years where the annual cost increased over $1000 per year. In other words for 2 dogs I started paying a little over $1000 a year to $4700 per year. And my dogs were not ill with a ton of claims. Overall I spent more on pet insurance and out of pocket than if I had just paid for everything my pets needed out of pocket. I understand that's the risk of insurance. But I've cancelled my policies and don't know if I'd do it again. For some though, I imagine insurance works our more in their favor.

If your dog has ever had a single lump no future lumps will ever be covered (and they all get them as they age), if your dog has the slightest bit of tarter no dental will ever be covered and basically anything that they’ve ever been checked out for, even if it was nothing…will never be covered. If they don’t like the notes your vet took, they will not reimburse you. Worst ever. I cancelled after wasting money on premiums for over a year.
Hello April, we are sorry to hear you were disappointed in your policy. Please email us at embracesocial@embracepetinsurance.com with your policy number if you’d like to discuss this further and we're happy to help!

I paid for pet insurance 11 years and hardly used it; We chose our pet from a breeder of merit. We feed her premium foods, have regular exercise and vet exams. Now that our dog is 11 years old, the price for insurance skyrocketed!!! It is no longer cost effective for us to pay the very high premium with a very high deductible. It ended up we paid for pet insurance for 11 years (around $7000). Instead, I wish I had opened a savings account for our dog to have money for vet bills as she ages!!
Hello Richard, we are sorry to hear you are disappointed with your policy premium. I feel that all this company does is try to find ways not to pay. My dog had a positive heartworm test from Gergi that was a false positive. The shelter put her on Heart worm medication that I had to give her every 2 weeks. Before I started the Meds the shelter called and said they did another test and it was negative so stop the medication and just give her the heartworm meds every month as normal dogs get it. Embrace wanted no part of this reasoning and denied my claim.

Don't buy this insurance unless you just bought a HEALTHY PET that has never been treated for any dental or urinary tract issues! Told by the agent selling the insurance my cats conditions would be covered and not considered preexisting if they had not been treated by a vet for teeth or UTI condition in the last 12 months. Agent told me they would request records and do review right away so could be determined if anything was preexisting. (I had 30 days to cancel if not satisfied with coverage). I filed a claim and after a week or so was emailed that vet not sending them records, this type of email went on for weeks with no resolution. I told them I cannot force the vet to do anything. Then received email stating records in line for review, then another week later was told needed records from the vet, then next week the records are in for review.
Then received email stating my mixed breed, adopted cats are pure breed Siamese, and as such my premium would be increasing. I was emailed I now had to file a review and the vet had to write a personal letter on each cat. In the meantime, I receive another email stating the conditions I specifically asked the agent about are not covered, and because of the special diet the vet recommended to keep them free of urinary issues made it a lifetime exclusion. Because they had teeth removed in the past FORL, the teeth issues would be permanent exclusions. When discussed with an actual person on the phone, basically told me I should have asked for immediate review of pet medical records (even though I thought that was what was happening) and ensuring the vet got them to the company asap, and that I did not read the policy carefully enough.
Too bad for me. A lot of work, no help and out the money, not to mention the numerous times I spent on the phone getting transferred from one waiting line of "pet parents" to another. Agents I spoke to could not give me any service because they are not the adjuster, and adjusters read what they want and don't consider what you are saying and then ask you to take care of contacting the vet to make them submit records over and over again. BAD EXPERIENCE, no one held accountable, just too bad for me. Good luck trying to get a real person to speak to, instead of steady stream of emails.
Hello Nancy, we are sorry to hear you had a negative experience! We do offer a medical history review so that you can have a better understanding of your coverage. This review can be performed after the illness waiting period and typically takes around 30 business days to be completed once we have all documents on hand. The 30-day money back guarantee and the results of the Medical History Review do not coincide. The 30-day money back guarantee is a free look period for Pet Parents to have time to review all policy documents/terms and conditions to determine if the Embrace Accident and Illness Policy is appropriate coverage for their pet(s). Although we try to process claims as quickly as possible, sometimes it can take longer to process the first accident or illness claim. Obtaining medical history is a process we are continuously working to improve. We work directly with your vet to gather any additional medical records needed to review your pet’s complete medical history. The good news is once the medical history is established our standard claim processing time is typically 10-15 business days! Please email us at embracesocial@embracepetinsurance.com with your policy number if you’d like to discuss this further and we're happy to help!

I had one question about an item not covered, and the folks at Embrace got quickly back to me with an adjusted claim including coverage for that item as well. We have always had multiple pets during our 57 years of marriage and have used various pet insurance companies during that period. We currently have 2 cats that have been insured with Embrace Pet Insurance Company for 10+ years and Embrace has proven to us every step of the way that they are the best in the business. One of our cats acquired glaucoma 2+ years ago and was nearly blind when the condition was detected. The cat required complex laser eye surgery to regain her vision, plus recurring vet visit checkups and numerous eye-drops/other medications since completion of the successful surgery. We are pleased that the cat now seems to be doing well.
Needless to say, we have had and continue to have a lot of recurring claims to submit to Embrace. In each instance, all of our claims have been satisfied by Embrace without hesitation, with accuracy and in a timely manner. Embrace performs at this high level of satisfaction because they have an Internet website and processes for paperless submissions of claims that is very user-friendly. Also, Embrace has an outstanding staff of friendly professionals that processes the claims with immediacy. Further, Embrace deposits our reimbursements overnight directly into our checking account. To the contrary, other pet insurance companies that we used previously have never ever approached the integrity and efficiency demonstrated by Embrace Pet Insurance Company, proving to us that Embrace is the best in the business! Clearly, WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND EMBRACE AND THEIR SERVICES!!!

I purchased health insurance for my healthy five year old golden retriever in August 2022. I selected the mid-range plan that covers illness and accidents and cost almost $90/ month. I submitted my first claim in November 2022 for a wellness visit. That claim was denied, which I expected. My dog developed an ear infection after a careless groomer let water get into my dog's ears. The bill was $420.00. This was an illness, so I expected coverage.
This claim submission started an email exchange with the claims staff. The tone of the communication to me was punitive, curt, accusatory. I was reminded I had not gotten a physical for my dog within 12 weeks of buying the policy. I explained this had not been possible because of the COVID pandemic. My animal hospital was only taking emergency cases. My claim was then denied "because I don't have illness coverage". I had to call Customer Service- waited 22 minutes on hold to talk with a rep who agreed that I did have illness coverage and that the claims staff read my policy incorrectly. Several days later my claim was updated to covered- but applied to my $500 deductible.
During this time the claims staff "decided to review my dog's medical history." They pronounced he has two fractured teeth so these are now pre-existing conditions that will never be paid. I contested this and provided medical report that the teeth in question have "superficially chipped enamel." Embrace insists this means the teeth are fractured. To contest I need to get my vet involved to dispute the view that the teeth are fractured. This situation involved being put on hold another 25 minutes to talk with customer service. I am not renewing my policy with Embrace. Save yourself the expense and being subjected to nasty claims staff who have no interest in being of any help. Horrible experience.

As several reviews have mentioned do not waste your money on this “insurance” because this company will find any and every reason to deny your claim. I had ONE claim for my dog and it took them over a month to process it and that was after they asked me to do the legwork (contacting my vets and obtaining documentation, submitting it etc.) only to deny the coverage more than a month later.
Mind you, my dogs are well under 3 years old. I spent over 100.00 a month to insure my 2 medium size dogs, only to be turned down for reimbursement. Their adjusters are condescending as are their supervisors. I communicated with Shelby **, Maria **, and Kelly **…and was repeatedly assured that everything would be handled in a timely manner. SAVE YOUR MONEY, time and what’s definitely most important, your sanity.
We are sorry to hear you were disappointed with your policy. Initial medical record review for my pet took weeks, and ended in me having to educate the Embrace claims adjuster that Albon is the same drug as Sulfadimethoxine. I would expect that medical claims adjusters are experienced enough to review and understand the documents. (this concern was addressed directly with Embrace at the time) The other concern with the extended timing comes from blatant lies from Embrace claiming they contacted the vet clinics for records. I personally work for the vet clinic that they claimed they were contacting...They absolutely did not. (this concern was addressed directly with Embrace at the time)
In unrelated emails with an Embrace rep, I stated: "There was no need to repeat yourself regarding the coverage. I made it clear that I understood the policy in my prior message. I owned that I made a mistake enrolling her." Response from Embrace rep: "I understand that insurance is not for everyone, if you would like to cancel your policy, I can forward the request to one of our Customer Care team members and they will follow up with you." Is it part of Embrace training to offer cancellation without the client expressing an interest? After 20 years working in veterinary medicine with direct client/patient care, this entire experience was shocking to me. (this concern was not addressed at the time)

My cat had to spend over a week in intensive care at the local veterinary hospital. When I submitted the claim, you all split the claim into several claims based on individual calendar dates. But my frustration is you left the diagnosis filled out only on the originating date's claim. While every other date for the remaining claims you left the diagnosis blank. The diagnosis isn't going to change for all the days he was in the hospital, it's going to be the exact same claim meaning the same diagnosis for every day in the Intensive Care. That seems like it should be common sense so why would your office have to keep calling my Veterinary office and asking the same question about what the diagnosis was for every single day of the claim? The diagnosis isn't going to change. Please review your policy and use some common sense if you need to split a claim up into multiple days. This is extremely frustrating and slows down the entire claim process.
Hello Diana,
Thank you for providing that feedback, I apologize for any frustration you experienced with the claims process! We are required to process claims based on each individual invoice and we always need to confirm what the reason for the visit is or the diagnosis (if one was given). I properly met the deadlines for the physical exam for my golden puppy. This also included the orthopedics exam. I was paid out for the orthopedics exam which was around $35 and microchipping. However, when it came to my puppy contracting Giardia the claims required resubmission and I was sent a generic automatic response, it didn't relay what exactly was wrong with the invoice. So I resubmitted a better image, still had issues until I called and I was told all information including my full name, my pet's name, the date of service and I did so and resubmitted.
They were still referring to the first invoice which was incredibly frustrating because I submitted the correct documents, and I was told I would get something back in 2-3 business days. Now the only issue, from what I am being told is that they need a complete history from the vet for my puppy to orthopedics exam and the two times I took her to the second vet she got an exam and I submitted a fecal to make sure she was fine for training. She came back positive for giardia and now it's been a back and forth with this for the past 3 weeks roughly to resolve this. They don't tell you in the emails unless you call or you can actually get a person to email you back. This is beyond annoying and am tempted to find a different insurance policy who do not give me this many issues and answers my calls as well as answers my emails in a timely manner. I still haven't heard anything regarding paying my entire premium.

I had submitted a claim and it was denied for my dog because she had gone to the vet for the same symptoms although the diagnose was different which took place a month later. After my initial vet appointment my dog didn't get better so when I took her back she received more meds and unfortunately that wasn't covered since the initial visit didn't help her heal.
We are sorry to hear your pup wasn't feeling well! First and foremost we hope they are on the mend! We would be happy to look your claim over with you in more detail if you have additional questions or concerns! Please give us a call at 800-511-9172 and we're happy to help!

I bought pet insurance for my dog about 2 years ago. Unfortunately, I had to use it when he developed a large tumor in his abdomen. I was honestly skeptical that my claim would get covered, but it did! The process was easy and the company was always polite and very easy to deal with. I would expect nothing less from a USAA company. It's unfortunate, that he was noted to have mild age-related decrease in mobility in his hips, which precluded any coverage of his back legs due to a pre-existing condition. Therefore, his bilateral ACL repairs weren't covered. Despite this, I would recommend this product.

I’ve been with Embrace a number of years. My pets are healthy. Embrace excessively raise rates. They raised it $100 a month this year and took away my earned deductible credits. I’ve only made 2 minor claims and they were 5 years ago. I’ve changed my deductible and premium payment 3 times because of their increases to keep it halfway reasonable. They are thieves. I can’t believe they took away credits I have earned from years of no claims. I can’t drop them because if my dogs need treatment another company could say it’s preexisting if it’s related issues. They know you can’t change carriers so they have out line price increases. Crooks.

Embrace's policies are written in a way that demonstrates very clearly their lack of care or concern for animal welfare. The waiting periods, the exclusions, it's all predatory and insidious. Did you know that the waiting period for orthopedic issues includes trauma and accidents? If you insure a dog and, during the orthopedic waiting period, they are hit by a car and suffer a broken leg, Embrace will not cover that (even though clearly being hit by a car is not breaking a leg due to a pre-existing condition, it's being broken due to trauma) -- and, furthermore, they will use that incident as an excuse to forego coverage for all musculoskeletal issues for at least a year, or perhaps the rest of the dog's life.
If your dog breaks a toe on a hike during your waiting period, they will use that as an excuse to charge you the same amount for insurance while denying coverage for anything bone-related later in the dog's life, due to one acute incident that does not medically indicate a pre-existing condition. TL;DR Embrace's policies are written in a way to provide you, the consumer, with as little coverage as possible. Their decision to treat the results of acute trauma as "pre-existing conditions" is unscientific, callous, insidious, and greedy.
Hello Damen, we are sorry to hear you are disappointed in the policy terms and conditions which include a 2 day waiting period for accidents, 14 day waiting period for illnesses, and a 6 month orthopedic waiting period for dogs. We do have a way to reduce the orthopedic waiting period by offering our optional Orthopedic report card. Two days later, received a copy of the letter they sent to my Vet requesting a copy of invoices for treatment that I had already sent! I’m not a fan. I paid it for 16 months because I didn’t have the cash available should something serious happen. But my first experience submitting claims was ridiculous. They asked for access to all of my 3 dogs' medical records then listed everything that they’ve been seen for as a pre-existing condition. For example - One of my dogs had had diarrhea so they listed stomach trouble as pre-existing and said she wouldn’t be covered for future diarrhea. No, one round of diarrhea does not make a pre-existing condition. My vet agreed that just because they’d been seen for various issues in the past, those issues were treated and didn’t require ongoing care. As such, they weren’t pre-existing conditions. My vet offered to do the documentation for all 3 dogs but I didn’t bother. Between not covering routine care & then the pre-ex **, I knew that I wouldn’t buy indefinite coverage.

Had Embrace for over 10 years for 3 pets. My first two dogs died naturally so I never had any claims under embrace at all. My third dog as she approached double digits in age. The premium went up 150% several years in a row. I went from paying less than $30 to paying $100 per month for coverage. I never had an illness claim. This was for only a max of $8,000 in reimbursement at an 80% coverage rate. They may be decent coverage for the first year or two of your pet, but do not rely on them for a long-term plan!
When I finally decided to use the dental coverage, I was reimbursed a whopping $50. I received information verbally that conflicted with an email that I received but was not made aware of this until after the reimbursement. Regardless, I cannot recommend embrace when my sister my sister who has a plan for about 8 years through Healthy Paws and has had multiple claims on her plan for one dog pays less and has been reimbursed more in those 8 years. Again, if you're looking for one or two years of coverage for a young dog it may be worth it, but do not count on Embrace to be there for you in any real way as your dog ages! The cost will be incredibly prohibitive. I would basically pay in 5 years what I would be reimbursed. Better to just put some extra money aside and pay out of pocket at this point.
Hello Lisa, we are sorry to hear that. Insurance is one of those things you hope not to use as your pet's stay healthy but is great to have in place for when things arise. I decided to get my French Bulldog his BOAS surgery and didn’t fully understand that I’m supposed to come out of my pocket 100%, which to me isn’t cool considering if the surgery or further surgeries needed may come to be even more expensive and this isn’t how insurance should work. I should only have the pay the amount that the insurance would not cover and because of this, I had to wait over a month for my reimbursement check that never came, so I had to call and check to see where the reimbursement check was, only to find out I now have to wait another 2 weeks while they investigate?? Why does the investigation take that long when all that is needed is to see if the check got cashed or not.
Now having to wait another 2 weeks just for the mail-in reimbursement check, which now brings me to over a month and half, going on 2 months, which I paid this surgery on my credit card so now I have to pay 2 months of interest on something I should have had a reimbursement check paid back to me way sooner. This whole insurance claim of having to pay 100% out of pocket is ABSURD considering this is a legit insurance company. This needs to change because imagine a surgery of $10,000+, a lot of people can not and will not pay that out of pocket and on top of it risk problems like these for a reimbursement check... Please change how claim payments are done and fix it to how normal insurance is done.

I have been a client of Embrace for a number of years now, I have always had the best of experiences when having to work with them during difficult and emotional times. The agents and staff at Embrace are some of the nicest people that I have had the pleasure of doing business with. They are empathetic, quick to respond, and very helpful. The prices are reasonable too.
Like many insurance companies, I'm sure they get a bad rap as Insurance companies are easy to attack, especially if one doesn't understand the foundations of risk and cost avoidance that underlie the reasons and cost of having insurance. Embrace has been very easy to work with on those times that we needed help with the expensive costs that come with keeping our little furry friends healthy. Embrace agents are also very empathetic, especially when the health news is dire, and this isn't fake caring, they really care. After tests were ran to ensure my new kitten's health and no disease was found, they excluded major coverage. Since the policy was not meant to cover routine care, excluding major illness made the policy useless for my pet so I requested the policy be cancelled and a refund for the policy. They refused to refund any portion of the premium. I called several times but was not allowed to speak with anyone making coverage decisions or anyone in charge of the decision. I have had an excellent experience insuring my dog with Embrace. In reading some of the low reviews it seems some of the poor ratings are a result of confusion in setting up the policy. At start up, the pet parent decides on the deductible (out of pocket costs) that must be met prior to reimbursement, along with the percentage of reimbursement you are paid after you have met your deductible. As you select options in the program, you see the change in the premium according to what you choose. I found it very helpful. I have never had a delay in receiving a check. The only time a claim was stalled was due to an invoice I submitted that was not clear. Embrace reached out to my Vet who supplied them the information. It all worked very well. I love the Wellness money which is basically an HSA. I recently enrolled a second dog which gives me a discount for having 2 dogs on the plan. I am very satisfied and recommend the plan.

Their on line help is no help since it is a robot answering. The automated emails they send saying they are "evaluating the claim" is one delay after another. After two months of the "run around" I cancelled the insurance for both pets. Amazingly, after publishing multiple reviews about my experience yesterday, today I received confirmation of my claims being processed. I'll take it.
Original Review: June 6, 2023
So far very unhappy. They appear to regularly not get the paperwork that is sent to them so they don't process claims. I've been copied on the documentation so I know it was sent. They have an upload portal for documents, that they never check. (Claim was put on hold due to "missing" documentation, I uploaded it the same day and it still has not been acknowledged). I put in the follow-up visits as new claims thinking, they might check uploaded documents. Too much wishful thinking. They are requesting the documents that have been emailed multiple times, and uploaded (now multiple times).
I will continue to email and upload them each time they request (the same document). Hold times on the phone are 30+ minutes. Beware if you have taken your pet to more than 1 vet. They will tell you they are missing paperwork, but never from which vet. So you have to request it from each vet all over again. So far it has been a nightmare. I would have expected better from someone USAA was promoting, but I guess competence is hard to come by.
Hello Alejandra, we are sorry to hear of your frustration with the claims process. Although we try to process claims as quickly as possible, sometimes it can take longer to process the first accident or illness claim as our adjusters have to obtain and review the medical records. Obtaining medical history is a process we are continuously working to improve. It typically takes 2-3 business days for documents to be uploaded to your account if they are sent via your MyEmbrace account. I see your claims are now in the final stages of processing. Feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions!

The reimbursement amount for a claim is based off the claims eligibility for coverage, and your policy terms such as deductible, reimbursement rate, and annual maximum which are selected when you sign up for a policy. I purchased embrace insurance when I first got my kitten. He had an upper respiratory infection when I adopted him from the shelter, which gave my other cat pneumonia. 7 months later, he developed asthma for which he had to go to the emergency hospital because he couldn’t breathe. My original claim for his asthma was rejected because they said he had a cough from his URI when he was a kitten and so it was pre-existing. I appealed and THAT claim was rejected because they said they couldn’t be sure that his newest symptoms were from asthma, or if it was a URI and therefore pre-existing (as if a cold lasts for 7 months).
For a second appeal, Embrace encouraged me to go to a specialist, get radiographs, and blood tests to get a concrete asthma diagnosis, then it would be covered. So I appealed again and got clarification from my vet and the emergency hospital. Thankfully, I did not spend extra hundreds of dollars on additional radiographs and a specialist. The radiographs from the emergency vet and the further clarification from my vet denoted that this was clearly asthma. Embrace accepted this diagnosis, but now says that his asthma is pre-existing because he coughed when he was a kitten.
First, they claimed he had a pre-existing URI that couldn’t be covered. After encouraging me to spend hundreds of dollars on a specialist and tests to prove it was asthma, they finally accepted the asthma diagnosis, then claimed that the asthma is now pre-existing and therefore can’t be covered. They will find ANY excuse not to cover your pet’s illness. I now have to pay for all asthma treatments for my cat which are VERY expensive. He has to use an inhaler twice a day. The whole reason I purchased insurance was to guarantee he could be treated for anything like this that might come up. Embrace has swindled me out of hundreds of dollars of monthly payments at this point. I'll be going to a different company as soon as possible. Learn from my experience and DO NOT choose this evil company!

Unfortunately Embrace Insurance is not reliable. When you submit an insurance claim that should be covered, they argue that they need more paperwork or that the paperwork provided by the actual vet is not valid. I have been declined for both the claims I submitted and feel that I have wasted my money paying into this insurance. Although their customer service representative are professional and nice on the phone, they are useless. I would highly recommend looking into another pet insurance company because this one will just give you a headache and will not meet your expectations.
For instance, I submitted the invoice for my dog training which was allegedly covered under the wellness package I pay into. It was denied because they said the invoice was not valid. Furthermore, when I submitted my claim to meet my current deductible after I had to take my dog to an emergency vet clinic, they stated "We are unable to process Luna's claim, because we are missing full pre-policy medical history through the end of the waiting period. This claim is now on hold but can be reopened once we receive the required medical history. We require a complete and legible copy of detailed medical history from all veterinary offices where Luna was examined 12 months prior to the start of your policy through, the end of the waiting period. Your policy began on 8/4/2022. If your pet is less than 12 months old, or was adopted less than 12 months ago, we require all medical records starting from their first examination by a veterinarian."
I explained to the representative that we adopted her as a puppy and she has no vet record before we started the insurance. Additionally, they allowed me to start a policy on her and knowing she had not had a record! Despite the fact that they had all her records the vet shared with me which clearly included her initial vet visit. They claimed it was not enough or not legible. PLEASE TAKE MY ADVICE & LOOK INTO AN PET INSURANCE COMPANY THAT TRULY CARES AND NOT THIS ONE THAT JUST TAKES YOUR MONEY BUT PROVIDES NO ASSISTANCE. THE ONLY THING YOU WILL GET FROM THEM IS A HUGE HEADACHE AND A MONTHLY BILL!

I had a dog who was insured for 15 years through another company. I now have a 3-year-old Brussels griffon and given reviews, I insured her through Embrace. My vet was having a discount on teeth cleaning. I asked if I should sign my dog up for this preventative dental cleaning. He hemmed and hawed and then said I probably should given her age and because she was a small dog. So I signed her up for that preventative dental procedure. I submitted the dental procedure bill to Embrace. Embrace reviewed the vet records. They then denied the claim saying my dog has a luxating patella...as well as "some" tartar.
They considered those pre-existing conditions and therefore, they would not pay. My dog's preexisting knee condition has nothing to do with her teeth or the results of a preventative teeth cleaning. "Some" tartar on her teeth is not a pre-existing condition for a teeth cleaning. They said I should have filed the claim with a different section of Embrace. I told them I had a claim and filed it. Getting the claim to different areas of their company is their job, not mine. I warn everyone against this company as a person who has dealt with other vet insurance companies.

Company is unable to process initial claim for our pet in less than 30 days with excuse of awaiting medical records. There was a gap of less than 2 months medical information from a completely different vet. I don’t believe there was a single visit to that vet at that time. Instead of sending repeat email requests for medical record pick up the phone like I did and the medical records were sent that same day. Additionally when we adopted a new pup this year we noticed that the policy available offered better coverage at a reduced rate. Company advised to switch our ~1 year old pup to the better plan, we’d have to wait again through same period as the newly acquired pet although our first pup had been covered by their company for nearly 1 year. Doesn’t make sense to reward new clients with better coverage especially when the pup in question had zero claims and was under coverage of your policy.
We are sorry to hear of your disappointment in the claims process. Although we try to process claims as quickly as possible, sometimes it can take longer to process the first accident or illness claim. Obtaining medical history is a process we are continuously working to improve. We work directly with your vet to gather any additional medical records needed to review your pet’s complete medical history. Our quotes are good for 24 hours as they are based on actuarial data that includes all of the policies we have in force. This data is always changing and updating which is why there could be a difference in your pricing quotes. Other factors such as your pet's breed, gender, and age could also contribute to the variation. If you increase your pet's coverage it would essentially be like starting a brand new policy as it would have to go through the underwriting process again. I know this may not be the answer you were hoping for but we are bound to the policy terms and conditions. The good news is, once the medical history is established, claims do tend to process much faster and typically take 10-15 business days. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to us at 800-511-9172.

It was taking the vet I go to a minute to provide them with what they needed so I was able to see that & call myself & tell them to provide the information requested. Because he hated the car and we took him to vet see if we could calm him down. He just hates car rides. He had a cyst. Near his eye that was drained that was then permanently denied. He is a hypoallergenic dog and he rolled in grass and got itchy. Now it’s preexisting. Never covered. He was running for a ball and step in a hole. Muscle tenderness that’s it. Permanently denied. I am trying Pawprotect. I know there is a 2 day waiting period for accident coverage and a 14 day limit to getting medical records. I have sent everything medical exam and shot records. That was more than required. I got a cc email today asking the adoption organization I went through for medical records to help process my claim. I have not made a claim. I called them and asked what was going on. They said they were asking for medical exam records. I said, "I sent it, did you receive it?" They said yes. So I asked if I would still be waiting if my pup became ill. He said, "Yes. Pending review." I asked then would they have done the review automatically to confirm they had all I needed prior to a claim and he said no. That I would have still had to wait in the event of illness. I had to then ask were there any other delays. He said the orthopedic coverage is 6 months. I don't recall seeing that but I will look again.
He says there is an orthopedic form that can be filled out by vet. In other words the exam was not enough. Going deeper into the rabbit hole I asked, "What does orthopedic refer to?" I thought it was maybe diseases of the bones. It may include that but is also for broken bones, torn ligaments, pulled muscles etc. Isn't that commonly what may be considered accidents to most people. I am awaiting the medical review to make sure I provided all they need. Even though he confirmed receipt of the exam, I now have to wait 30 days for them to decided. I am a heartbeat away from canceling. I don't have time to waste or money to cover accidents on my own hence buying the insurance. I'm giving it 30 days and will decide. I am so torn and disheartened. What else are they hiding.
I also received another confusing email about the review I had asked for. It says all I need is the exam notes if I have had him less than 12 months or he was adopted. That is the case with the pup and I. The information seems to be going in a loop. I sent what was requested and within the parameters laid out. Why is there a review needed anyway. And why did I have to ask for a review? Why wouldn't that have been done upon receipt of the documents.

I have two claims that are now over 30 days old and still have no resolution on the claim status. I work in the insurance industry and manage extensive home, auto, and personal liability claim scenarios continuously and have never had any claim take over 30 days to just get a simple claim status answer. I issued the policy due to the reviews I read online and now if I try to move coverage to another pet insurance company, I'm afraid and know certain illnesses will not be covered due to the pre-existing condition clause that is on ALL pet insurance policies. Embrace covered everything they were supposed to from the hospitalization as well as her follow up care. Unfortunately, our sweet girl died a month later.
When I called to tell the representative that she had died and I needed to remove her from the policy, the representative showed so much compassion, telling me how sorry he was. He let me know how much our new monthly premium would be. Since I had already exhausted my “well” pet amount for the year, I asked if they would continue to charge me for that. He told me absolutely not. When a customer loses a beloved pet, they just forgive the remainder of what I had used but not yet paid. They did not have to do that. Dealing with Embrace is becoming more difficult. Embrace reaches out to my vet for records multiple times for most claims, claiming incomplete or "illegible" documents. If that is the case, then Embrace personnel are not properly receiving, recording, documenting and forwarding them to the adjust assigned to the claim. This creates frustration with the clinic in having to send the records repeatedly; and with me in having the decision and reimbursement delayed as a result of this carelessness. Adjuster should personally reach out and provide direct email or fax number to streamline the process.
Only thing that keeps me with Embrace is that my dog's conditions-which will be covered- would be considered pre-existing by another company. My dog is older and once she is gone, I will not be enrolling new dogs with Embrace due to the above-mentioned issues. I already have a new adoptee that is enrolled with a different company and the claim submission experience has been far, far easier and significantly less stressful.

Although we try to process claims as quickly as possible (typically 10-15 business days), they can be delayed if we are missing a clear diagnosis/reason for the visit, a complete and legible invoice, or medical records. Embrace has nice friendly customer service people who answer quickly and show concern for your inquiries. The buck stops there. The waiting period for claims is awful and even worse is the loopholes. I find that after working in healthcare it’s just what insurances do, which is take your money and do all they can do to not pay for anything. They create all kinds of loopholes to get out of paying. My dog had to have a surgery that was almost $6000 on 2/14/23. The policy was purchased 7/14/22 and there were NO pre-existing conditions regarding his Feb surgery, but during their in depth 12 month pre policy chart review, they found that Prince had a limp on 10/22/22, 3 months AFTER the policy was purchased and not ANYTIME before the policy was purchased, but they still will not pay for the surgery that he had to have 7 months after being a member! OH, and because he NOW had a problem, they will NEVER pay for a joint issue!
Hello Sharon,
I am sorry for any frustration you experienced with your policy! Prince’s orthopedic waiting period ended on 1/17/23. Per the term and conditions, any orthopedic conditions and/or clinical signs that are noted prior to this date are excluded from coverage. Prince was examined on 2/14/23 and per those records Prince had been intermittently limping since October 2022. This is prior to the end of your orthopedic waiting period. It notes that radiographs were performed on 1/10/23 showing right stifle effusion with evidence of DJD (degenerative joint disease). At this visit Prince was diagnosed with a cruciate tear. Unfortunately, as the limping/lameness had been ongoing since prior to the end of the orthopedic waiting period it is excluded from coverage.
We do strive to be as upfront as possible in regard to the waiting periods, with it being noted in the acknowledgements upon purchase, in several onboarding emails, and in the terms and conditions document, but I apologize for any misunderstanding! If you have any additional questions or concerns, please give us a call at 800-511-9172 and we're happy to go over it with you!

My dog getting sick and not knowing at first what was causing it. Was stressful but your app made filing the claims easy and your response was fast, I have already recommended you to two friends who asked who I use. Ivy competes and keeping her in good shape is important. Going to Rally Nationals this year. Thankfully not till June.
Hello Bernadette,
We're glad to hear the claims submission process went smoothly for you and we appreciate your recommendation! We hope Ivy is feeling much better now!

I have an adult dog for which I purchased a policy for two years, from 2021 to 2023. I received several different and contradictory explanations as to what qualified as a preexisting condition for my dog even after asking for a comprehensive review of his file so that I could note what they had flagged as exclusions. I spent so much time calling and emailing about denied claims and appeals and was given short, conclusory explanations as to reasons for denial, even after providing documentation from my veterinarian addressing the purported reason for denial. This has been the most frustrating experience and I wasted money, time, and energy in a useless cycle of filing and appealing claims. I think it’s unconscionable to lie to and/or mislead your customers about exclusions. Deeply dissatisfied with this service and would never recommend to anyone.

I signed up for Embrace to avoid paying thousands in the event of something happening to my dog. After over a year my dog started to get sick and her diagnosis was Cancer/Cushing's Disease. Embrace covered NOTHING for the numerous procedures we had to have done stating she had elevated liver levels prior to her diagnosis. My vet wrote an appeal letter and stated how those levels were barely over the limit and should not be held against us as they were not a cause for concern. They denied the claims again. I would not recommend Embrace to ANYONE. I paid almost $100 a month (I got more than the basic plan) for them to cover nothing and for me to cover all my dogs medical bills. The money I spend on their monthly services could have gone to her actual care instead. I would love to report them for their TERRIBLE services and customer care.
Hello Tabatha,

Embrace used to be an AWESOME pet insurance company. They covered basically everything. Their coverage has gotten steadily worse. And they are now excluding 5 minutes of every 60 minute rehab session because "massage" that is being done to identify the areas needing rehab care, is now excluded. So they pay for 55 minutes per hour. Not the remaining 5 minutes.
I actually don't care about the 5 minutes but I want to make sure everyone knows what kind of company they are dealing with. They have continued to exclude conditions and therapies and pet parents are stuck because at this point there are pre-existing conditions, and people can't switch companies.
Hello Cara,
I am sorry for any frustration you experienced with your policy! Per the terms and conditions of the policy, complementary therapy is limited to acupuncture, chiropractic treatment, laser treatment, hydrotherapy, and physiotherapy. We need to be able to see detailed breakdown of what is included in the rehab pack to be able to process the claim. I see you have been corresponding with the adjuster, but if you have any additional questions, concerns, or would like further clarification, please give us a call at 800-511-9172 and we're happy to help!

The patient care card just sealed the deal! It is a great benefit to be able to simply pay the vet with your card and be able to repay interest free while waiting for your claim to be reimbursed! Amazing company!!

Embrace inflicts outrageous premium renewal fees EVERY YEAR. I have had this insurance for 5 years and every year experience an astronomical increase in my premium. They send out the same garbage regarding the increase they send every year. My premium increased about $600.00 this year despite NO claims. When contacted they spew the same garbage they always do for the reason for the increase.
Hello Lynn,
I am sorry for any frustration you've experienced with your policy! Each year Embrace along with our underwriters, American Modern Insurance Group, conduct a substantial actuarial analysis and these findings help to determine increases in premium pricing for all policies in each state. Our premium increases are based primarily on the age of the pet and pet tenure (how long the pet has been insured). This is due to the fact that the older a pet becomes, the higher the likelihood that claims will be submitted, or the pet may incur an accident or illness. Premiums increase over time as a cost of business with all insurance companies and over the lifetime of a policy with any pet insurance company, you are likely to see very similar trends, it just may vary when the increase happens. With our policies we do not currently increase prices based off of the number of claims submitted or the heath status of your pet.
The reality of the premiums is that we must keep up with the actuarial fluctuations as best as we can and adjust premiums accordingly from year to year. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please give us a call at 800-511-9172 at your earliest convenience and we're happy to help!

Experience was wonderful from the ER visit to the surgery. I would only suggest that you provide options other than a picture to upload vet bills. I tried for some time to upload a PDF statement the vet had emailed me as an attachment. I ended up having to print it out, take a picture and then upload it. It would seem file options would be a simple thing to add to your system.

I don’t get it why monthly payment goes up that high. Because he is reaching to deductible so plan has to pay me more reimbursement?

Embrace is very good, however, I find the deductible too bad, when you get insurance you assume it will cover and not have to wait till it is met, also when you get prescriptions you assume they are covered and do not have to be on the list. After all you pay for insurance so you just wish items would be covered.
Hello Betsy,
Thank you for providing that feedback! When a policy is first purchased, each policy holder has the option to select the annual deductible that best suits their needs and budget. FDA approved prescription drugs related to a covered accident or illness are eligible for coverage under the insurance, but that does not include prescription food. If you have any questions or would like further clarification in regard to your coverage, please give us a call at 800-511-9172 and we're happy to help!

Once again, I must go through the appeals process because the claims adjuster decided to deny my claim based on my 11 week old puppy vomiting when he drank too much water. It seems like no matter the claim, it is somehow related to prior conditions even if it’s not exactly the same. It’s like if it has the same word in it, they say it’s prior condition and it’s not covered. What’s the point of insurance if everything is denied?
