    Avoid Embrace at all costs. My dog was a rescue, and over the course of her life, I paid Embrace over $5000 in premiums and only had two claims approved, for a total reimbursement of around $400. Even worse, I was told after the fact that one claim was approved in error. The reasons for denying claims are extremely shaky -- their adjusters will look for any anomaly in the dog's medical history or bloodwork and use it as a blanket denial for all subsequent claims for the rest of the dog's life.

    Due to a single anomaly on a blood test when my dog was 7 years old (that resolved on her next bloodwork), Embrace denied all claims relating to her digestive system because a symptom of the bloodwork anomaly was "nausea." This included vomiting and illness after ingesting a candy bar, which required emergency care. I appealed multiple times and was rejected at every turn. They made the process as difficult as possible, and they're more unpleasant to deal with than human health insurance companies, which is saying something. There is no circumstance in which I would ever recommend someone consider them for pet insurance.

    I find your policies of "keep everything we can and deny as much as possible" disgusting. I have been paying into my policy for several years and have not used it - shouldn't you reimburse this? I think you all should refund me every dollar for every year that this went untouched. I have been bilked thousands of dollars from you because you refused to accept the original medical forms. Two years ago, when my dog finally needed care, I got delay, after delay, and run around after around from you about your ** policies and you did not reimburse me. This year I had to beat the door down to start getting reimbursed for his medical expenses. I will NEVER recommend you. You are dishonest pirates that don't actually care about pets - you just care about making money. I am disgusted by you.

In order for the coverage to be active at the end of the waiting periods, we require that a physical exam was performed by a licensed veterinarian in the 12 months prior to starting the policy. Or if there was no physical exam in that timeframe, then we require an exam within the first 14 days from the policy start date. We do strive to be as upfront as possible in regard to the pre-policy exam, with it being noted in the acknowledgments upon purchase, in several onboarding emails, and in the policy terms and conditions.

    We initially join Embrace be they partner with USAA who usually does a good job screening partners. In this case, I have had nothing but bad experiences with Embrace. Prior to our two cats passing in 2019 and 2020, they fought us for every claim, so much I just gave up and kept the minimal insurance to cover our dog. I do not recommend them.

    I want to start by saying I have been a customer with Embrace since 2007. Up until recently they have been an excellent insurance company to work with. When we first acquired insurance in 2007 we were getting two German Shepherd puppies. Embrace at the time was the only company that covered hereditary diseases and let you customize your coverage, and prices were reasonable. They were just starting out then and treated us like family. We purchased $10,000/year per dog. 90% coverage with $1,000.00 deductible.

    We did not have many claims with those two dogs, one passed at age 9 and the other at 11, overall they may have reimbursed $1,000.00 in their lifetime. We purchased insurance for the two GSDs that we currently have when they were puppies as well, with the same coverage. Both of the GSDs that I have now, one 6 yrs old and the other 5, have had TPLO (ACL knee) surgery on both knees in the last three years. They paid these claims without any issues. The insurance has been increasing a lot over the last two years and I just received our renewal estimate and the price went up 43%, it was $1,494.00 last year. Renewal quote is $2,095. What really pissed me off is I went on the website, used a different email address to get a quote and the quote was $1,500.00 and some change!!!!

    So I called, spoke to Tiffany who was a very nice young lady, however it was obvious she was working from home, had a cheat sheet for all my questions and really didn’t care whether I cancelled or renewed my policy. She first told me the increase was not because of my prior claims but because of rising veterinary costs in my area and my dogs' age. When I told her about my newest quote, her reply was that was because, a new customer with dogs my dogs' age would not be covered for pre existing conditions and that my dogs have orthopedic conditions that they will have to cover, which contradicts her early statement that the surgeries had nothing to do with the 43% increase. Needless to say we are not renewing our coverage, I have since opened a special "Dog" account and put the $2000,00 in it and will keep adding to it should we need to cover any future emergency vet appointments.

    I understand it can be frustrating when you see the premium has increased and we are sad to see you go! Our premium increases are based primarily on the age of the pet and pet tenure (how long the pet has been insured). While your current premium may be higher than the new quote, in general when a pet is insured at a younger age, we expect to be able to cover more of the claims as the pet ages than someone who signed their pet up later in life because they will most likely have more pre-existing conditions that are ineligible for coverage. Due to that pet tenure, your premium generally ends up being higher than someone who is purchasing a brand new policy for a pet of the same age.

    Premiums increase over time as a cost of business with all insurance companies and over the lifetime of a policy with any pet insurance company, you are likely to see very similar trends, it just may vary when the increase happens. With our policies we do not currently increase prices based off of the number of claims you submit or the individual heath status of your pet, it is based on the overall trends for your pet's age, breed, sex, and the location where you reside. The reality of the premiums is that we must keep up with the actuarial fluctuations as best as we can and adjust premiums accordingly from year to year, but we understand you must do what you feel is best for you and your pet!     I had to deal with two separate departments.. First was the Medical staff. The woman that answered the call was very pleasant to talk to. She was able to tell me the information I needed about my cat. And rest assured that my cat will be fine. Second department was Accounting. They withdraw the whole year policy money for my cats in one shot. I had made the mistake. The woman was able to fix it and refund the amount minus the monthly amount. And we set up the payment plan to be taken out monthy.

    I, admittedly, had concerns when I first had to put in a claim due to hearing horror stories from friends about their experience with other companies. When my dog started getting sick we had a number of consultations and testing to rule out cancer and then a liver biopsy. To date the process has been easy to submit a claim and so far thankfully everything has been covered and reimbursed within about two weeks time which has been a literal life saver for my baby boy! Getting this insurance with Embrace has been a wonderful experience and a simple efficient process.

    This company is very deceptive in how it conducts business. Very difficult to collect on a claim as they invent reasons not to pay. Only after my veterinarian had to explain numerous times and I had argue my case forever did they finally relent. Now I have been advised by them that they are increasing my monthly payments by 45%. They sent a notice advising that they asked the NJ Insurance Commission for an 11.5% increase that they haven’t received yet but raising mine 45%. When I asked why they gave me a run around. Stay away from these guys if you can, I made a big mistake and regret it now. This is not an honorable company. This company is a total scam.

    Each year Embrace along with our underwriters, American Modern Insurance Group, conduct a substantial actuarial analysis and these findings help to determine increases in premium pricing for all policies in each state. Our premium increases are based primarily on the age of the pet and pet tenure (how long the pet has been insured). This is due to the fact that the older a pet becomes, the higher the likelihood that claims will be submitted, or the pet may incur an accident or illness.     My dog was seen at a vet for a possible ear infection on 12/4/2021. He was treated and released. My dog was taken to the vet on 2/18/2023 and I was told he is not covered because there is a 12 month waiting period. The gaps between the 2 vet visits is approximately 15 months which is much longer than the 12 month waiting period. Embrace is saying he won't be eligible for coverage until 2/18/2024.

    Also, my dog has a small mass on his chest his whole life which is roughly the size of a dime. This mass has remained the same size his whole life. Embrace rep, told me since we don't have exact explanation of the cause of the mass, my dog is no longer covered for any time of cancer. In all, avoid Embrace pet insurance at all cost. They lie, they deceive, and they don't uphold their policies. I don't understand how they are still in business.

    I've been very pleased with Embrace's coverage for my 11 year-old Chocolate Lab.     This is the first pet I have insured and I did it because I am now a senior on a fixed budget. I was so surprised to use because generally my older pets had more bills as they got older. Scarlet swallowed a piece of a tennis ball and needed a work up and endoscopy and a ER visit and another follow up. Embrace really came through and reimbursed quickly. Definitely recommend them.

    I picked Embrace out of the pile at the recommendation of the shelter I adopted my dogs from. I have filed a half dozen or so claims for my older dog. Thus far, every significant claim I have filed resulted in a protracted period where I awaited response (at times longer than the 15 business day turnaround advertised), only to be told (erroneously) that my claim was denied due to the issue being a preexisting condition (which has been an incorrect assertion every time). These have been with different adjusters, so it’s puzzling that I’m seeing a pattern where the rationale is either fundamentally incorrect or they’re misinterpreting my dogs history.

    To make matters worse I am a human physician, so when the rationale doesn’t make any sense, it’s straightforward for me to point it out. Yet only a few times has the decision reversed after my input. Other times they demand an appeal letter from the veterinarian to reconsider the decision, which most recently involved denying a claim because a preexisting condition was listed as one of ten potential explanations for an acute illness.

    Appeal letter writing is a tactic used by human insurance companies in the hopes that the doctor won’t have time or the patient will give up, which would be the equivalent of getting a bluff through in a game of poker and is functionally practicing medicine without a license. It makes me wonder how many Embrace customers accept claim decisions in good faith simply because they don’t have medical training. Thus far my experience has been frustrating due to delays and nonsense arguments from adjusters. Insurance is meant to be “peace of mind” and to protect those one values. Embrace advertises the letter of that sentiment but is quite brutally missing the spirit. Prospective buyers beware.

    My dog ate something toxic and we went to the emergency vet. It's been 3 months. They keep putting it on hold 'cause they don't have notes from my vet on her puppy skeletal exam from a year and a half ago. My vet didn't make notes 'cause he didn't find any issues. But the emergency visit had nothing to do with any possible preexisting conditions. The holdup is ridiculous but their payments come out every month. Same day, no questions. Mmm well they did not anymore. I'm switching.

    I have never had a dog insurance that quotes one thing and does another before after a few decades of having a few dog insurances plus being involved with animal rescue. I questioned claims and Embrace upping my coverage because they decided to and then they changed it back which is good but that leads me to believe they have many badly trained employees in the first place. Also my dog had an issue and they did not believe the vet so then where do you go with that one?

    My claim was not paid. Then I complain again the 5th time and finally get a supervisor as they are usually are not available. They like to send out emails to resolve everything with a shut you down type email. I tell that person that, "My vet will not recommend you anymore" and now find out they then pay 2 other claims that they were not going to at my Vet but of course did not pay mine on my dog. Also no one called that vet to face the situation but did the client at least. In addition, you send an email and get a generated, "We will get back to you" email and they take many days to get back to you. Really disappointed in Embrace.

Pre-existing conditions are defined as anything diagnosed or symptomatic prior to the start of the policy and through the initial waiting periods and they are based directly off the notes we receive from the clinic(s) your pet has been seen at. We also use the medical record to confirm the breed of your pet and go with what your vet has your pet listed as. I see that once we received additional information from your vet, it was updated to reflect the correct breed.

    Since the claim occurred during the 6-month orthopedic waiting period, we were unable to provide coverage for it under your insurance. I know this is not the answer you were hoping for and I apologize for any frustration, but we are required to abide by the terms and conditions of the policy.     One star away isn't bad but it would've been five had information on the policy taken out through Embrace for my then 7yr old Akita/boxer mix been sent suggesting the wellness be included also. I'm easy. After a non-cancerous tumor removal plus his spleen he's back to normal after ACL surgery. Only requiring routine visits. Inoculations and basic wellness prevention that I had assumed was a part of his insurance plan already. Turns out he was not. I was able to easily correct this by phone with a representative. The online website is great and for the most part thorough, but there's still no substituting person to person conversation at least in this instance.

    I will start by saying that in the past I have been every happy with my Embrace experience, and recently my dog had cancer, and they covered as they said they would up to my maximum of $5000/year. I saw on my phone App that I could up my limit to unlimited by paying ~$250 more per month, but not having my pet's conditions re-evaluated. (It said it would reevaluated if I lowered my coverage.) I paid for this service, received the terms/conditions/new Embrace coverage via email. My policy went into practice the next day.

    A day later I got a call from Embrace saying their website had a "error that the developers were now fixing and it was in error and I wasn't allowed to up my coverage without all terms and conditions being re-evaluated, or I could switch back to the lower coverage." I asked if they would be willing to stand behind the policy I paid for since this was their mistake/coding error, since the policy was in place. They said no, that is absolutely not possible. I was very upset by this answer, since this was not my fault.

Although you can increase coverage at any point mid-term, typically, you are not able to increase coverage online since it would reset the waiting periods. But due to a technical glitch that our team has since corrected, you were able to do so online. In order to increase coverage, you still would have received a message online letting you know that increasing the coverage resets the pet's waiting periods and this would had to have been acknowledged by you to move forward with the change in coverage.

    The reason we reached out is because we always want what is best for you and your pet and increasing coverage is not something we recommend! We wanted to make sure you were fully informed of what increasing coverage entails and offered to adjust the coverage to what it was previously. Although it was an error on our end that you were able to increase coverage online, we are unable to waive the waiting period reset associated with increasing coverage and must abide by the terms and conditions of the policy and the regulations set by our underwriters and the department of insurance.

    I was ok with this company until they raised me from $90 to $150 in one year! I understand the need to raise rates but by 50%? And when I called to complain the person said, "Well you can always cancel." Great that’s what I did but that’s also what they wanted me to do. My dog is getting older but he’s very healthy and have only made a claim a few times and for things like ear infections not serious operations. I was really disappointed I paid for this as long as I did.

    I certainly understand your concern in regard to the premium increase! Each year Embrace along with our underwriters, American Modern Insurance Group, conduct a substantial actuarial analysis and these findings help to determine increases in premium pricing for all policies in each state. Our premium increases are based primarily on the age of the pet and pet tenure (how long the pet has been insured). This is due to the fact that the older a pet becomes, the higher the likelihood that claims will be submitted, or the pet may incur an accident or illness.

    Premiums increase over time as a cost of business with all insurance companies and over the lifetime of a policy with any pet insurance company, you are likely to see very similar trends, it just may vary when the increase happens. With our policies we do not currently increase prices based off of the number of claims submitted or the heath status of your pet. We do however have our $50 Healthy Pet Deductible Credit that gets applied toward the deductible for every year you go without reimbursement for claims!

    I have signed up two of my pets with Embrace about a year and a half ago and the entire time dealing with them was nothing but headache. I used to be with Healthy Paws and never had problems with them until they stopped taking new pets in my state. The rep recommended Embrace because they were well established and I made a mistake of listening.

    My dog had some temporary pre-existing conditions during the transfer, which they told me would expire if she doesn't get them again for a full year. So after a year and a half I battled with them, called them multiple times to get those off her records. Finally, when I submitted the claim it was denied. I called them to ask why and they told me it was a mistake on their part and it should be corrected. The people were nice on the phone, but things that were promised to me never got done and I had to call them multiple times to see any movement.

    We adopted two cats in August and took them to the vet for a check-up just to make sure everything was okay. Fortunately, they were both in good health although the vet did detect a slight heart murmur. At the time of the examination, the vet informed us that this could be attributed to the stress of being taken out of the home after they had just gotten used to our home. (Fear that they might be going back to the shelter.) Sure enough, on subsequent visits, the heart murmur was no longer heard.

    In early January one of my cats started coughing. Usually just once a day, but just to be sure he was okay I took him to the vet. They did x-rays and gave him a shot for asthma. On the x-ray, they thought his heart looked a little enlarged so they recommend an echocardiogram. I knew this was an expensive test, but I thought, better safe than sorry and also felt at ease because I had Embrace pet insurance. Luckily the echo came back fine and the cough cleared up from the shot. What a relief! Well, until I found out the claim had been DENIED!!!

    After waiting over a month both claims were denied by Embrace because they declared him as having a pre-existing condition. Apparently, the heart murmur that no longer exists nullified the claims. My vet wrote a letter to Embrace assuring them that the heart murmur was "white coat syndrome" but they still denied the claim. Disappointment is an understatement for the way I feel about Embrace, not to mention the $1,500 bill that I am now stuck with paying. I would NOT recommend this company!!!!

    I purchased my pet's health insurance policy in mid August 2022 and provided my pet's medical history at that time. I filed my first claim the first week of December 2022 for an ear infection. After calling and writing to Embrace for over two months to get the status of my claim, they finally reviewed my pet's medical history in mid February 2023. During this 6 month time I submitted my pet's medical records three times because they continually lost the documents. So on 15 February 2023 they rejected my claim because my dog had a prior ear infection. They waited over 6 months to review my dog's medical history. I believe they wait many months to review each pet's medical history so that they can collect insurance premiums and then deny claims. Embrace Pet Insurance is a complete scam. Please save your money and use a quality insurance company for your pet.

Although we try to process claims as fast as possible, sometimes it can take longer to process the first claim(s) when the full medical history is not complete. When a policy is first purchased, we send several onboarding emails out in regard to the medical history we require and we also offer the option to request a Medical History Review. If the review is not requested, medical history is reviewed instead at the time of the first accident/illness claim submitted. It is from this process that we identify if anything may be limited from coverage on a permanent or temporary basis. This is determined as result of anything being diagnosed or symptomatic prior to the start of the policy or during the related waiting periods, as noted in the records.

This means if your pet is prone to breed-specific illnesses, medical treatment is covered under your plan. Lab surgery on rear leg declined because vet noticed a limp at a wellness check. Nothing else noted. Six months later, limp returned, x rays taken, showed a tear, surgery performed..Surgery DECLINED. "Pre existing, not long enough on policy, (never noted previous on any policy).     Although it took a couple more days than advertised to repay me for my cat's wellness expenses, Embrace did follow through with repayment on that. I was mostly pleased with that. However, Embrace took far longer than they advertised to fulfill claims (around 14 business days to process a claim). It actually took more than 30 business days due to required medical history reviews that I thought Embrace would have already requested and completed around the beginning of my policy.

    Last week I reached out to the Embrace claim team asking for an update on why it was taking so long to get past the 'pending medical history' stage on my claims. The lady told me that they had still not received the records from one of the vets. I don't know why I was not informed beforehand that they had still not received them, as quite some time had past by then, but I reached out to the vet that day and made sure that the records were sent. The claims lady confirmed that she got them and ensured that she would have the adjuster expedite my claims. She said that they should be done by Friday night, if not that evening. They were not done until today.

    After having to wait for over a month to get a resolution, I've been told today that Embrace will not cover the expenses I paid for my cat's pleural effusion (fluid in the chest) because it is being considered as a pre-existing condition - the only thing they'll cover is the euthanasia and cremation. The reasoning I was given was that the emergency vet noted he had a heart murmur back in September, which was before I started the policy and the vet that I took him to last month was never able to determine the cause of my cat's fluid.

    I am extremely displeased with Embrace. Not only was I made to wait twice as long as advertised to get my claims resolved (and they did not even reach out to me to let me know what was causing the delay), but Embrace decided to not cover a condition that did not have a determined cause just because a heart murmur was noted a few months ago. Per what I was told by the vet, the cause could have been at least 3 different things. There is no proof that the heart murmur is related to the fluid. Not only has Embrace not been helpful, but they've also made my financial situation even worse than if I had just handled the expenses on my own. I have already started the process of appealing this decision and am requesting the cancellation of my policy. I do not want to waste my time and money on this company any longer.

    I am an Embrace customer. I submitted my claim on 11/22/22 and 2.5 months later it has not been fulfilled. When I submitted my claim Embrace said it would take 30 business days. Embrace sent a medical records request to one of the vets who assisted by dog with her illness, All Bay Animal Hospital, but sent it to the wrong address. When I spotted their mistake on 12/22/22 and notified them of the correct email address, Embrace then said it would take another 30 business days due to their own mistake. Then a week ago I learned Embrace had only then just sent a medical records request to the emergency vet who treated my dog.

    I have since submitted two other claims for my dog's medication back in December, and those claims have also not been processed despite Embrace's claim that they would be processed in 15 business days. Needless to say, Embrace is a terrible insurer that takes your premium with no delay but then takes almost 3 months to process a claim due to either incompetence or deliberate delay on their part. I would strongly recommend people seek pet insurance elsewhere.

    I did a lot of research on pet insurances and Embrace rose to the top. I signed up and true to the reviews they excepted my claims and I was completely satisfied until my renewal on the second year. I was shocked and certain that a mistake was made. My monthly bill went from $66 a month to $98 a month. Please note that I put in claims that did NOT exceed my deductible last year. They did not reimburse me any money so it's not as if my pup has any issues. When I called they said renewals can jump 25-35 percent a year as an industry standard. When I pointed out they well exceeded that number they said there was nothing they could do. It was not based on claims. Just the age of the dog and policy age. She is only 7 years old and has many years before major issues occur. I supplied a medical history when I signed up showing she had been a healthy dog. I feel scammed by Embrace and now have to start this process all over.

    I certainly understand your concerns in regard to premium increases! Each year Embrace along with our underwriters, American Modern Insurance Group, conduct a substantial actuarial analysis and these findings help to determine increases in premium pricing for all policies in each state. Our premium increases are based primarily on the age of the pet and pet tenure (how long the pet has been insured). This is due to the fact that the older a pet becomes, the higher the likelihood that claims will be submitted, or the pet may incur an accident or illness.

    Premiums increase over time as a cost of business with all insurance companies and over the lifetime of a policy with any pet insurance company, you are likely to see very similar trends, it just may vary when the increase happens. With our policies we do not currently increase prices based off of the number of claims submitted or the heath status of your pet. We do however have our $50 Healthy Pet Deductible Credit that gets applied toward the deductible for every year you go without reimbursement for claims!

    Embrace representatives pushed and pushed for me to get a ligament and joint review for my dog within the first six months of the policy. We did because it was explained as being helpful for us. The only thing noted was mild crepitus, meaning her knees pop occasionally when tested. Fast forward two years, we have never missed a payment and never had a claim outside of wellness which is a separate policy anyway. My dog has a ruptured ACL. Since her knees mildly popped two years ago, they are refusing to even cover the initial visit which identified it, much less the surgery she now needs. They have very unethical business practices. They only care about the bottom line and not the clients or the animals.

    I’ve had Embrace for 13 years now. Embrace is easy to work with, and pretty transparent. Something to be aware of, you should get preapproval on surgeries. You just never know, as some items may not covered. Also prescriptions for home are not covered unless you add to your policy (few dollars extra). All in all, it’s a good insurance. Surgery for my dog was $12,500, not to mention the previous visits. I was really glad to have embrace, as together they covered the $10,000 after my yearly $500 copay. I wish they would cover more as I ended up out of pocket after that as well.

    The policy goes up in cost every year, and for my 13 year old dog, I was paying $105 a month so that is something you need to keep in mind as well. Yes, I will totally recommend embrace, and I still have them for one of my dog. The process is pretty quick. If you have the app you just download your documents and then you have a few days to a week to wait on your reimbursement. Reimbursement is made via check or direct deposit in your account. Thank you Embrace for being there when I unfortunately needed you!

    This company gives you the runaround to avoid paying claims. My 9 month old puppy had a upper respiratory infection. I took him to the vet and the charge was $125. I submitted a claim but I keep being told they don't have all of my dogs medical records even after I uploaded everything multiple times. They then contacted my vet and got what they needed but after a week they decided they still needed more. After getting that they decided they needed records from the vet that completed his Neutering appt. It's ridiculous. That vet doesn't even have any records other than what was from the Neutering appt. Anyway even after getting this they still haven't paid the claim. It's been over 2 months... I would not recommend this company to anyone.

    I adopted a cat from the Humane Society. After a week I took her to the vet. I mentioned that the cat groomed more than my previous cat.     Definitely not happy with the outcome of my claims. First claim you have to wait like 30 days since they have to go over your pet's records. After that whenever you submit claims they will always ask for additional docs such as vet notes etc but the worst of it is that they will keep requesting the pet's records over and over delaying significantly your claim to be paid. Is very frustrating and all I get is “we understand your frustration,” all I need to see is my claim process moving faster. Current update: Dog is very sick and I just can’t get this claims paid when I pay $164 every month for this service.

    I believe this company is such a scam! They have delayed my claim for over 60 days. They claim to not be able to retrieve prior medical records from a different office, which is silly in this day and age. They also try to make everything a pre-existing condition. I believe they are reaching in order to not pay out. It’s very frustrating process. You should feel comfortable taking your dog to a vet with a strong insurance backing you! Beware of this company. Although what really disappointing me was the fact that the embrace people spent more time trying to find out pre-existing conditions from prior medical records so they could come up with anything to lessen the coverage on my little pet Frankie. It was very frustrating and I think it's wrong. They have good customer service but what is the point of that when they go out of their way to try to find out anything that they can to find something they can label as pre-existing. It was ridiculous. I even showed it to and brought it up to my veterinarian's attention, and all he could do is just shake his head.

    I would give them zero stars if I could. Stay far away from this company. They are unscrupulous and will do anything in their power to not pay on claims. They say they will take 1 month to review a pet’s previous health history but it took almost 4 months. They call everything in the world a pre-existing condition. If your dog has ever been to the vet for anything they will call it pre-existing and refuse to pay. My dog had one ear infection and now they won’t ever treat any ear or skin condition for her life. I would try any other company before this one. I only went with them because USAA endorsed them but I am going to do everything I can to reverse their endorsement. The sales guy totally lied about everything to get me to switch and now I am stuck because I can’t go back to my old company. Run run far away from them!

    I've only been with Embrace for a little over a year and recently received my renewal notice. It indicated that my monthly premium would be increasing by $22.03 per month and Embrace stated that because of the age of my pet and that I could expect the premium to increase annually since my dog's age would increase each year. They had the audacity to email me a survey and ask if I would recommend Embrace to my family and friends. Not only would I NEVER recommend Embrace to my family and friends (or strangers), I would recommend that they run away quickly because clearly Embrace is just plain greedy and doesn't care anything about animals whatsoever. STAY AWAY FROM EMBRACE!!!!

    Embrace Pet Insurance is by far one of the most shady companies that I have done business with. They have found a way to deny claims for a puppy that I have based on a previous condition of parasites, which is common for most puppies. My puppy has been treated and cleared of any worm or other parasites, but still has GI issues causing diarrhea and Embrace has denied both of my claims so far for a "pre-existing condition". After speaking with their claims analysts, there is zero concern for the customer or for the pet and the only concern that the adjustors have is whether they can find a way to deny the claim.

    Because they are denying claims for something as minor as GI upset, I have zero confidence that this company would be in my corner if something more severe were to happen to either of my dogs. Instead of helping, they would find a way to deny the claims so that not only am I paying for the full vet bill, but also wasting money on monthly insurance payments.

    I am a veterinarian and often discuss insurance with my clients. I decided to take my own advice and get my 11yo healthy dog on a plan. At the end of the first year on the plan he was diagnosed with 2 types of cancer. The claims process was very easy and the claims were processed quickly. The reason for the low stars has been the outrageous premium increase after one year.

    My policy went from $51 a month to $81! I asked what the average increase in policy is and 25-35% is the average and when I asked why mine was 60% increase I was told it was solely based on my dog's age as he is getting a year older. I asked if it had anything to do with the claims submitted this past year and was assured there was no connection. I also inquired about a limit on percentage increase which apparently there is no cap to the increase as it is all dependent on the underwriters decision each year.

    My dog had 2 cancers removed in one massive operation so I can understand if policies increase more when you do submit claims but to increase my policy by 60% and claim it is solely due to my dog's age is not a sufficient answer. I am appalled at the lack of transparency and that there is no answer as to a maximum increase in plan premiums per year. All I was offered was to just lower my coverage so I wasn't paying as much. I am not expecting special treatment but I also was amazed that there was no effort to give any more reasoning or to get me on the phone with someone that could provide those answers.

    A company should be offering this to anyone with the same concerns or questions but as someone in the field you would think the company would want to make sure all my questions are answered since we are often the ones encouraging insurance to our clients. I understand the business of insurance is always a tricky one no matter whom you go through and changes in premiums are in their right and a normal part of insurance from year to year. But I would highly recommend going through another company and I will make sure to not recommend this company to my clients. I will be making sure to recommend Trupanion in the future.

    Embrace seems to be a normal company until you get into trouble. After 10 years of health, my cat got very sick. I saved all my receipts but wasn't sure exactly what to do.     I have had Embrace for several years and the only positive is they pay out fast. Other than that they do not care about the consumer or the pets. I got it when my husky was 10 years old and now he is 16 and very healthy. He has had surgeries only because of accidental ingestion three times, but every year since having them the monthly premium has increased. First it was minimal, 5-10% but the most recent was 40% increase from $320/month to $445. Every year he gets older they increase the premium knowing that at his age no one will insure him, and when you try to adjust or lower the coverage they explain that if I ever want to increase or reverse the coverage I will be treated as a new client and unlikely that I will be approved since most of not all insurances will insure a dog as a new client past the age of 13.

    I have complained many times that I pay less monthly for my family’s insurance than I do for my one dog. The explanation I get is inflation and/or cost of living has increased so their premiums must go up, which I’d be fine with but 40% increase in one calendar year is robbery. Better off going with a company like Progressive that locks you for life with rates but offers less coverage 80% reimbursement instead of 90% from Embrace.

    One year ago, I took Embrace insurance for my cat. My monthly charge was $62.28 per month. Embrace just sent me my renewal rate, which is now $91.86 monthly. My cat has been recently diagnosed with a benign case of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and other insurance companies will not accept me as a result of the pre-existing condition. Embrace is taking advantage of the situation and it's a shame! I DON'T recommend that company at all!

    I have a cat that had a yeast ear infection. Due to the ear infection my cat was scratching around his ears from the infection. Embrace claimed that since my cat had dermatitis 7 months earlier that they would not pay for my cat's ear infection. It should be noted that 7 months earlier the dermatitis my cat had was from flea bites. At the direction of our veterinarian we immediately started a monthly flea treatment program and it completely resolved our cat's scratching. It is only common sense that had our cat continued to experience skin issues we would of immediately returned to our veterinarian.

    Unfortunately, Embrace would rather find reasons not to pay their customers. They tell me that I can have my vet write them a letter to appeal the decision. Embrace is well aware that veterinarians do not have the time to write letters on behalf of their animal patients. It's not the doctor's responsibility to make sure we get paid. There is a reason that insurance companies have big buildings and billions of dollars! They find ways to deny legitimate claims. If for some reason (ha, ha, ha) Embrace reverses their decision I will update this review.

    Here is the dark and ugly truth. They do not do medical history reviews until AFTER you file a claim. I went over three years paying this absurd company thinking I was covered to find out they ruled my dog's condition as preexisting. Absolutely criminal, unethical and immoral. They will do whatever they can to ensure they do not pay you. They have stolen from me for 3 years and I’ve paid 8k in surgeries they are responsible for. For military members, USAA is partnered with them and they are currently looking to drop them because of my experience alone. Google search reviews and you will see I’m not the only one to experience this.

When a policy is first purchased, we offer the option to complete a complimentary Medical History Review, which is essentially a complete assessment of your pet’s health history. As a result of your pet's review, you'll know if your pet has any conditions that would be pre-existing and for how long. If this review is not requested, the medical history is instead reviewed upon submission of the first accident or illness claim. Unfortunately, no pet insurance company is able to provide coverage for pre-existing conditions, defined as anything diagnosed or symptomatic prior to starting the policy and through the initial waiting periods.

    We do strive to be as upfront as possible when it comes to the terms and conditions of the policy in regard to pre-existing conditions and the collection of medical history, with it being noted in the acknowledgements upon purchase, in several onboarding emails, and in the terms and conditions document. I know it can be frustrating and I apologize for any misunderstanding, but we do abide by the regulations set by our underwriters and the department of insurance.

    I've spent $210 towards this pet insurance since getting it a couple of months ago. My dog vomited from eating too fast. Took him to to get him checked. Submitted the claim for $690 (xrays, medication, etc.) and was denied coverage by Embrace. Their reasoning was that his vomiting was considered a temporary illness and the veterinarian's appeal letters that stated my dog was healthy and the vomiting incidents were unrelated. Were insufficient in approving the claim.

    My Premium was $1000 this year and I just received my renewal for next year, Embrace increases my premium to $1600 without any explanation. I understand cost of everything went up and there's inflation now too but $600 increase??? That's 60% increase!!! Between cost going up and inflation, 20% increase is probably more reasonable. Anyways, I called Embrace multiple times trying to speak to a supervisor to find out why this happened, but Embrace refuses to speak to me and all I got was a email response that my dog is aging hence the price increase. I'm very disappointed with their customer service and their supervisor Sarah is avoiding talking to me on the phone. You would think maybe there's new perks or the coverage is better given $600 increase but NOPE - same coverage as before. I feel that we are being punished because of my dog is getting older. I'm totally ok with annual increase of premium but not by 60% each year.

Each year Embrace along with our underwriters, American Modern Insurance Group, conduct a substantial actuarial analysis and these findings help to determine increases in premium pricing for all policies in each state. Our premium increases are based primarily on the age of the pet and pet tenure (how long the pet has been insured). This is due to the fact that the older a pet becomes, the higher the likelihood that claims will be submitted, or the pet may incur an accident or illness.

    Premiums increase over time as a cost of business with all insurance companies and over the lifetime of a policy with any pet insurance company, you are likely to see very similar trends, it just may vary when the increase happens. With our policies we do not currently increase prices based off of the number of claims submitted or the heath status of your pet. We do however have our $50 Healthy Pet Deductible Credit that gets applied toward the deductible for every year you go without reimbursement for claims!

    I assure you our Contact Center representatives and supervisors would not intentionally avoid or ignore your calls, but I apologize for any misunderstanding!     Buyer Beware - I wish I could give less than 1 star. This was my first experience with pet insurance and it was an eye opener! When I submitted claims to prove I had met my deductible, within 24 hours I received notification for my renewal, which was over two months away - at an increase of nearly 40%. When I called to question, I was told that a 40% annual increase was 'normal'. I never actually intended to file a claim, only prove my deductible had been met in case I needed to file a claim and EVERY SINGLE claim I filed to prove this was disputed and denied even though I had the vet complete Embrace's forms. Embrace looked amazing on paper but I don't think they ever would have approved any of my claims.

    I have used Embrace for all my pets over more than 10 years and with 6 cats. All of them were adults when I adopted them and a few had pre-existing conditions. Embrace was always clear and honest about what would and would not be covered after getting the medical history and initial physical. As my pets got older and sicker, it was certainly money well spent to know they could get the care they needed and that I would be promptly reimbursed for covered expenses. 4 of my cats have since passed, and they were kind and compassionate when I contacted them to remove a cat from the policy.

    I had insurance for about seven months and the family dog was getting nauseous and throwing up. After a few days, we decided to take him to the vet. Well, long story short Embrace said that nausea was a pre-condition. I never heard of nausea being a precondition. To continue my short abbreviated not so long story, I highly recommend this company. All they did was weasel out and just tried to sell more insurance. The company **!! Go to Petsmart and get their dock in a box. I’ve been told that they just take care of the animals. I’m a USAA member and the only reason why I trust this Embrace company was because it was on the USAA site. Silly me.

    I adopted my dog from the local shelter in November 2021 and signed up for Embrace Pet Insurance in December 2021 as it was recommended by USAA. In August 2022 he had lameness in a back leg and was seen at the local emergency vet as it was a weekend and my vet wasn’t open. The charges were over $900 and testing revealed positive for Lyme. I filed my claim with Embrace and TWO MONTHS later was told nothing would be paid because he had a limp when he was dropped off at the shelter by animal control so this was a “pre existing condition.” I had asked my vet when she followed up with my dog in September if there was a correlation. She said it was not impossible but the shelter did not test for Lyme and there are multiple things that can cause a temporary limp, particularly in a dog that was on the street.

    I felt that Embrace’s two month long review of his records was frankly an attempt to find a way to not pay the claim as I had seen similar reviews that felt the same way. The definition of pre existing condition is so broad and does not rely on provable root cause that there must be a lot of denied claims. I have canceled my policy and will provide feedback to USAA in the hope that they will rethink their recommendation. This insurance was not cheap and did me absolutely no good whatsoever. The feel I got all along was that they were looking for a way to decline the claim and unfortunately I was right.

    On 6/1 I completed the applications for two pets’ insurance. I submitted my dog’s healthy medical visit documents and was awaiting to set my cat's next vet appointment, however, I received an email from Embrace that indicated that both my pets were now fully insured. This confused me so I called Embrace again thinking perhaps I misunderstood the policy. I called in to see if Embrace had all that was needed for my cat’s health insurance, I was affirmed from the customer service agent that nothing more was needed, they had everything for my cat and he was fully insured.

    I asked again whether they needed another healthy wellness check prior to affirming my cat's insurance was good, however, I was affirmed 2 more times that Embrace had everything they needed. Then I emailed on 7/12 and asked if his insurance is active, because I wanted it in writing. “Thank you for reaching out regarding your policy. I did take a look at Anikin’s policy and it was purchased the same day as Koda’s policy… it is active."

    This was over three months ago. When my cat had a UTI I took him to the vet 8/26 and then it wasn’t until AFTER I SUBMITTED THE CLAIM TO EMBRACE that Embrace contacted me 9/14, 9/19, to say that it is missing his heathy vet check. Now I am being denied my claim because they said they never received the healthy wellness check from my vet. I am beyond furious because I have been paying for the insurance for MONTHS.

    When I asked to be sent the phone call recording /chat recording I was told that the request was against compliance rules. I was also told that regardless what I was told on the phone, needing the health check is written in the 17-page manual, so that is what they refer to, regardless what their rep told me. I am furious. When I asked to speak to a supervisor I was told one would return my call within 48 hours. What a joke!

    If I was a customer service representative or someone who worked for this agency, and a client was missing important paperwork for three months, I would be calling them. The email I received said there is nothing that I needed to do, so I was foolish enough to believe them. I will publish this review as often as I can until I get an appropriate response.

    I am sorry for any frustration you’ve experienced with your policy! Our only requirement in order for the coverage to take effect at the end of the initial waiting periods is that there was an exam done within the 12 months prior to starting the policy or within the first 14 days of starting it. We do strive to make this as clear as possible, with it being communicated in the acknowledgements upon purchase, in the policy terms and conditions, and in several onboarding emails. If there is no sufficient pre-policy exam done, then the illness waiting period will be extended to the date of the first sufficient exam. When we extend the illness waiting period and the policy becomes “void” during that extension, those premiums are refunded. However, the policy was and is still active and the coverage for accidents was available. I apologize for any misunderstanding, but we do have to abide by the regulations set by our underwriters and the department of insurance. I do see that you have been corresponding with our claims team and a supervisor will be reaching out to you shortly to go over any questions and concerns you have!

    I tried this company because they have an association with USAA, an excellent company unlike Embrace. I paid an upfront annual premium of $630 to insure my cat. The background and health history required was unending. Even after a well health checkup from the Vet, Embrace would not acknowledge our pet was covered for anything and would not cover any Vet charges for things like teeth cleaning, feline leukemia shot, etc. The $630 was a total waste. All they said was No! Then they wanted a second-year premium of $854. For what I wondered?? No coverage? I said no, and cancelled the policy. Don’t use Embrace! It’s a scam!

    This review is painful for me to write. However, I feel obligated to shed light on how Embrace truly runs its company in the hopes it helps save the lives of future animals while providing pet owners with more transparency. I recently signed up for Embrace in 2022 to ensure the health of our cat Baker, and new puppy, Sancho Panza. Over the last 4+ months, Embrace continuously denied reimbursement claims for NON-PREEXISTING CONDITIONS, like vomiting and sneezing, for our cat Baker. However, when Baker fell ill this summer and needed detailed medical attention, Embrace would not help us. They worked every angle to ensure no compensation, which bled us dry between the 100% out-of-pocket vet bills ON TOP of the monthly $150+ Embrace policy payments.

    Even after spending the entire summer taking Baker to multiple vets, along with spending every last cent we had on her care, there was nothing more the vets or we could do to save her. We spent Baker's final hours between 2 vet ERs searching for a blood transfusion match, to no avail. In the end, we were forced to put her down in the prime of her youth right before her 2nd birthday. After Baker died, during our time of inconsolable grief, Embrace hit us with a cold denial email, then had the nerve to send us a condolence card. Next time, don't do that. It's heartless, horrendous customer service, and disingenuous at best.

    On a separate note, multiple Embrace agents continuously denied us routine vet care for our 4-month-old puppy, Sancho Panza, who had zero preexisting conditions upon his adoption in April 2022. Their denial letter even went as far as to say that Sancho had been seen by a vet in November 2021, yet when we adopted him, his papers stated he WASN'T EVEN BORN YET!!!! Just say NO to Embrace and find a pet insurance company that backs up their policies legitimately with genuine care and empathy. Otherwise, you might as well set your money on fire and kiss the health and well-being of your animals goodbye.

    Unless your pet is brand new to the world, the insurance is a scam and not worth it. My cat Lucina had to go to the emergency room - twice - this summer because of bladder stones that have developed. I spent thousands of dollars on her diagnosis and treatment, and Embrace refused to cover any of it. Why? Because in January, she had a UTI. Apparently because we never did the tests to rule out bladder stones then, they won't cover bladder stones we know she has now. It's one thing to say you won't cover things she's definitely been diagnosed with before, that makes sense - but to not cover something because she might've had it? Come on. I ended up cancelling my policy because I might as well spend the money directly on treatment rather than feeding it to a company that won't cover anything my cat actually needs. Thanks for nothing.

    When you get a Saint Bernard you know that every vet visit is going to be expensive since almost all of the medications or vaccines are by weight. We got Embrace Pet Insurance as soon as we got Fenster to have peace of mind in case anything terrible happened. Well Fenster broke a tooth and had to have it extracted... anesthesia alone was over $500! Embrace requested a bit more information from the veterinary dentist and then covered the majority of the claim. It was quite a smooth process. We also use the wellness rewards as we know with flea and tick and heartworm medication we spend a lot on our gentle giant. We love Embrace!

    Insurance is something you never know if it is good or bad until you need it. Well, when I needed this company they disappointed me. They are REALLY GOOD at taking my payment. When my CC changed and I got one week behind on payment they make multiple contacts FAST and send menacing messages to ask for my money. But when I sent a claim they took almost 4 months and kept denying it for bogus reasons. My dog had an ear infection and they keep asking for documents from MONTHS ago for a veterinary visit to check for previous diseases of the pup COMPLETELY unrelated to a god-damn EAR INFECTION!

    I signed my two dogs up for Embrace Insurance after seeing such great reviews and recommendations. But so far I have had nothing but bad experiences. It has been over two months since my first claim was submitted for one dog and still no response. I call and am given different responses each time. It was put on hold saying they needed information, then they apparently get all information until today. I am now being told they are still missing notes and cannot proceed without them. What’s the point in paying for insurance if there is going to be so many issues trying to use the service.     I was very excited to try Embrace beginning in 2020, but my experience hasn't been good. The App and online claim submission is great, fast and easy. However, the premiums and return are horrible. I have 2 dogs, both very young. The cap for wellness is $250, so anything after that is not covered, such as the monthly flea/heart work med, flu shots, and distemper for boarding. Also, one of my dogs had to get surgery for a possible foxtail in his nose. That was an $800+ bill, plus the meds. Embrace reimbursed me $80 for the meds, but all of the reimbursement for the surgery went to the $750 deductible. I also pay for the dental coverage, and in my plan it states that I have up to 2k for coverage per dog. My dogs recently had dental cleanings, but because the cleanings "fall under wellness," it was not covered under dental. So, with this insurance company you pay a lot out of pocket, and get barely anything back.

Dental illnesses are eligible for coverage under the insurance up to $1,000 per policy year as long as they are not related to a pre-existing condition. The $1,000 is a sublimit contained within your pet's chosen annual reimbursement maximum. This would include labs, anesthesia, extractions, IV catheter, meds, etc. Routine and preventative care, such as a dental cleaning, is only eligible for reimbursement under the optional Wellness Rewards plan, which has three amounts to choose from ($250, $450, or $650) to be reimbursed per policy term year.

    Because the Wellness Rewards plan is not insurance, there is no deductible to meet. However, any covered accident or illness claims will always first go toward meeting your annual deductible before reimbursement is issued. A deductible is standard for most insurances and it is the amount of money you must pay out of pocket each year before your insurance plan benefits kick in. The annual deductible is chosen by each policy holder when the plan is first purchased. There are multiple deductible amounts available so that each pet parent is able to customize their policy based on what best fits their needs and budget!

The company acknowledged that their initial payment takes a long time and did not acknowledge that their process could be improved upon even after I wrote a private response to them explaining the challenges I faced during this time period. They did eventually pay out, but if I hadn't been able to front many thousands of dollars for several months I'm not sure what would have happened to my dog. I appreciate that they did not try to avoid paying me the amount agreed upon in the plan, but I will never forget the several month waiting period not knowing what was going to happen to my family financially at a time when my job is in jeopardy.

Someone told me that TruPanion works directly with the vets so that you don't end up in such a situation.     I joined Embrace several years after we adopted our furbaby! Turned in all the paperwork that they requested and called their customer service to make sure Everything was good to go. We were told we were good but would have to wait 6 month because they stated our Ortho report wasn’t filled out correctly! Two years later, we finally put in a claim of $270 because dog developed allergies! After we placed our claim we had to resubmit our dog's vet records for two years only to be declined because they stated that we didn’t turn in all of our information!

    In fact they stated that since we had to resubmit her allergies, which she didn’t have when we signed up, was not considered a preexisting illness and would not be covered!! Ironically, they took their monthly payment for two years without finding any issues with our account! Basically, Embrace will take your money but will not reimburse your claims! Absolutely the worse service ever!!! If you are planning to go with Embrace please rethink your decision.

In order for the coverage to be active at the end of the waiting periods, we require that a physical exam was performed by a licensed veterinarian in the 12 months prior to starting the policy. Or if there was no physical exam in that timeframe, then we require an exam within the first 14 days from the policy start date. When a policy is first purchased, we offer the option to complete a complimentary Medical History Review, which is essentially a complete assessment of your pet’s health history. As a result of your pet's review, you'll know if your pet has any conditions that would be pre-existing and for how long. If this review is not requested, the medical history is instead reviewed upon submission of the first accident or illness claim.

    We do strive to be as upfront as possible about the terms and conditions of the policy in regard to the pre-policy exam requirement and the collection of medical history, with it being noted in the acknowledgements upon purchase, in several onboarding emails, and in the terms and conditions document.     I found out about Embrace pet insurance from a training club member who worked for them and raved about it. I had just gotten a Doberman and knew they were prone to many issues, plus my pup liked to swallow rocks, so I felt it was a necessary investment. The price was good as was the coverage. But in three years, the cost for her has doubled even though I've never put in a claim and I have another Doberman that was added a couple of years ago. That is just too much of an increase with no indication of any health issues. Plus I have done most of the usual health tests for the breed: OFA excellent hips, perfect echo, perfect holter. There is no consideration given for that. So I'll about to switch.

    At first glance the Embrace Pet Insurance seems like a great idea. After all, who wouldn’t want to protect their furry family members? If I could offer advice before purchasing a policy…read the ENTIRE document before you purchase. The first few paragraphs tell you what is covered. The second half goes over what is not. “Full coverage” does not include wellness visits or preventative care. You have to pay extra for wellness care. At that point it’s almost like a savings account they use to cover office visits and normal preventative medicine.

    They also do not cover anything they consider a preexisting condition. If you have an older dog like I do, that is about 90% of his health care. Even some services that my vet told me were not wellness or preventative were denied by Embrace. In one year I spent over $1,400 for my dog. After all the denials, my copay, and ONE reimbursement I received a payment of $11. If my dog got hit by a car, that would be covered but only if he didn’t see the vehicle coming (because that would be a preexisting condition). I’m exaggerating that example of course but you see what I’m saying. Overall an Embrace policy is a waste of money. You would save hundreds of dollars just paying for the vet bills yourself.

    I've had pet insurance for over a decade. They have all had their quirks, from only paying 50% max (VPI), to Healthy Paws that doesn't pay for the vet to look at your sick pet aka examination fee (yes, really disgusting right?) to Trupanion that years ago wouldn't pay a claim if your dog was over a year old and intact (you're really going to mandate what I do with "my" dog?). Finally, I found EMBRACE. They addressed my concerns and pre-certified my dogs before I cancelled Healthy Paws and insured with EMBRACE. All my claims have been paid quickly and fully. Kudos!

    I can't say much good so far. One thing that is unacceptable is their payment policy that will back date all policy changes occurring mid-year back to January 1. So by paying several hundred dollars for a new policy but get the coverage backdated is not good customer service.

    I purchased pet insurance for my 8 years old large dog since January 07, 2022. The waiting period for illness cover is 2 weeks, equals to January 21, 2022. 01/19/2022, my dog got a mass under his right front paws and it was hurting him badly. I brought him to the Veterans for surgery, that day cost $714. Because of it was within the waiting period, so this cost was not covered. 2/23/2022 and 3/9/2022, I brought my dog to checking up, the veterans did digital radiographs, exams and medicine, discovered my dog had heart failure, these 2 bills were $347 and $357, and they were applied to policy deductible of $750, so I didn’t receive any reimbursement either. Start the claim of 3/29/2022 of $70, after applied to the remain deductible, I received a check of $10. Since the deductible was fully applied, all the claims after 3/29/2022 are reimbursement 90% to me.

    It is very nice to see the 90% of expenses coming back! But the process to start receiving reimbursement took 3 to 4 months. My dog was serious sick, in the waiting for approval, I had to pay out from my own pocket for over $1000. I was going a hard time to keep brought him to veterans, bought his medication, or decided to put him down. My dog was a warrior dog, he had chased out thefts, caught snakes and other harmful animals in the back yard. It was tearing our hearts to make a decision to pay for his treatment or let him go. I’m glad we went through the hard time and now he is getting well and we received payment back. I wish we didn’t have to wait this long for the approval to go through.

    Embrace Pet Insurance has great customer service representative, every time I called, they answered my questions clearly and explained things in detail. If you consider to buy pet insurance, maybe you should choose the lowest deductible as possible, and bring the pet to the veterans after the waiting period. When in time of need, $750 is a lot. I’m appreciated the reimbursement I have received now, it is way over the premium I pay for the year.

    It's refreshing not to have to wait for customer service to answer a call. The customer service rep was gracious, understanding & had the change I needed to make completed immediately. I'm very satisfied with the service I received during this call! However, overall their policy is complex for an older pet. My complaint with Embrace is understanding and/or remembering what's required when you make a claim & how long they take to process a claim. (Yes, you can read the lengthy policy but you'd have to do that every time.)

    For example, I provide the documentation required but then they request the complete medical record of the pet from the veterinarian. If they're going to do that then I shouldn't have to submit anything but the pet's name & the invoice or remember what is or isn't covered. Filling out the form is time consuming & rendered redundant since they're going to request the complete medical record anyway. They must be trying to find out if your claim can be declared part of an existing condition. In that respect, they're just like any other health insurance company (people or pets).

    They paid the claims in a timely manner over the course of my first year with them. However, when it came time to renew for year two, they raised my premium for my two dogs by over $40 a month which increased my annual premium by about $480! In my view, it appears that the initial year's lower rate was a ploy to get me to sign up with them. When I complained about such a large increase, I received a condescending email from them saying they "understand it (premium rate increases) can be frustrating" and that I could buy less coverage if I wanted a lower premium. They also blamed the rate on many factors, including inflation, policy changes and the underwriter (American Modern Insurance Group) who determines the base rate. Too bad they have no say in what they charge, huh? To me, it's a bait (lower initial rate) and switch (2nd year large rate increase).

    It's bizarre to see the positive reviews for this company. I found my dog as a stray puppy, who when I rescued I took immediately to a vet. He had mange and an ear infection. About 4 months after literally rescuing my dog off the streets, I bought Embrace Pet Insurance. A few months after I got pet insurance my dog started itching and licking his abdomen. I thought he had allergies and took him to his vet. His vet recommended an expensive Allergy test, which I assumed Embrace would cover. However after I filed a claim, Embrace stated that since he had mange when I found him and an ear infection a month later, anything dermatologically related was considered a pre-existing condition. This was devastating for me, because as a pet owner I realized I could not afford any further medical care for my dog since none of it would be covered.

    I went to a different vet that was recommended to me by a neighbor. My dog's new vet took one look at my dog and said she didn't think it was allergies at all, but possibly worms! We immediately did a fecal test, and yes, he had worms, which was causing him to itch and lick. Despite the mis-diagnosis and the unnecessary diagnostic allergy test, Embrace is still maintaining that that this was all a pre-existing condition and that they will not cover any of it.... It seems like embrace will twist everything into a pre-existing condition to avoid spending any money. I do NOT Recommend this company.

    We had to file our first claims. The insurance company had no issues with the health history submitted for us to obtain our policy. Now that we have a need for our coverage they have an issue with the original health history. Instead of notifying us or the original veterinary clinic that there were any issues causing a delay in reimbursement they sat on it until my husband called to follow up. I have not received any notification that they have followed up with the veterinary clinic after speaking to my husband a week ago. Not off to a good start. If anything changes I'll gladly update my review but for the time being I'd advise others to stay away from this company.

    Embrace was great about obtaining my 3 dogs for a policy. When it came that my Golden acquired an ear infection, they denied the costs of medications and treatment, stating it was a prior condition due to the fact she had ear drops 9 months prior for inflammation. The whole reason I elected was because they assured me that all was fine, they had done the vet review, and I even took them for the Orthopedic Vet Visit. When we think of insurance for our pets, we think of the hard to pay for events. We don't think that an ear infection as "Chronic" because that would mean that it is untreatable. They are not. They collected the fee to write the policy on 3 dogs and the premiums from March to July. A wasted amount. When I complained, and said that was why I bought, they just cancelled the policy at my discretion, without trying to help me. DON'T GO WITH EMBRACE. TRY AKC. They don't have pre-existing/chronic definitions used.

    After a little over a year of solid service from Embrace, I had the dreaded negative experience everyone with pet insurance fears when filing a claim. I submitted a claim for one of my dogs who was vomiting and having diarrhea. Easy day, I thought. Just as I was starting to realize that the claim was taking longer than it had in the past, I get CC'd in an email from Embrace to my vet asking for my dog's medical history over the last year. Confused about why that would influence the status of my claim, I call Embrace who then proceeds to tell me that my dog has "pre-existing conditions" on my policy. I ask the Embrace representative which policy document would have those pre-existing conditions listed to which she responded that I don't have access to the document that lists them and that I could online get them sent to me if I had known to ask for it. Complete scam.

    I had been trying to make myself feel better about paying more for Embrace than every other competitor because I thought when I needed them, they would be there. Turns out they are just as conniving and dishonest as some of the others seem to be. Do yourself a favor and either get a policy somewhere else where you can get more coverage for a lower price.

We are required to confirm we have the pet’s full medical history on file before we can process any claims related to an accident or illness. It is from this process that we identify if anything may be limited from coverage on a permanent or temporary basis. This is determined as a result of anything being diagnosed or symptomatic prior to the start of the policy or during the initial waiting periods, as noted in the medical records.

    In this case, diarrhea was noted as a temporary pre-existing condition for your dog. Temporary conditions are considered curable and are eligible to expire if the pet goes 12 consecutive months symptom and treatment free. Your dog's condition was eligible to expire as of 11/2/21, so we requested the records through that date to confirm there were no other occurrences. Once the records are received and reviewed, the pending claim will move forward for processing!

    The 1st claim I submitted took 5 months to be processed. The deductible was not applied to the year current year, but instead the previous year. This was not thoroughly communicated to me, despite talking with Embrace MANY times in 5 months. When I submitted a 2nd claim, under the assumption my deductible had been met, I found out afterwards that it had gone back to 0 and I ended up paying the full amount of a very expensive vet bill. The individual employees were kind, yet no one offered a solution or compensation for the ordeal. This is a big company that does not seem to be able to meet individuals needs, and are profit driven. If you want you and your pet to be cared for, I would look elsewhere.

    I purchased coverage plans for my two dogs. Paid a year in advance. First time I filed a claim they denied it because of “pre-existing” condition. I provided documentation from the vet showing my dog was treated for ear wax and instructed to use cleaning wipes (the pre-existing condition). Again, they said that is a pre-existing condition and denied the claim. Which the claim was for a skin bacterial infection under her arms. After 6 weeks of the back and forth I cancelled my policy. This is an honest review. I felt that no matter what I provided to them they would not cover my pet. Hopefully others have better luck.

    So, my dog got a tumor last year. Had the surgery done and it was removed. Unfortunately, I didn’t get pet insurance consistent over the years being a full time student so you know this makes it extremely expensive. But after the tumor experience I didn’t want to be caught without it again. Now, a year later a full paid policy. I take him in for a follow up. Embrace won’t cover **!!! They want to say that everything is a prior condition and that even though the tumor is gone he may get one again and they won’t cover that. That was the entire point of the coverage!!! Even basic things they are looking for reasons not to pay me. When I ask them, “Well damn, what does the $1700 a year policy I paid for cover then????" “Oh well we can’t tell you that, we can only tell you what’s not covered”. What???? What the hell am I paying for them ??? Never again!!! I’m starting a savings account and will ayote the money for procedures there!

    I have Embrace pet insurance through USAA. Every time I have submitted a claim it it's been super quick, a response has been within a couple business days.     We spend almost $500 for a year policy and did not get 1 claim approved. Our Pug was disqualified from multiple possible future claims due to her breed. We got our puppy from a rescue and insured her within 4 months of getting her. We took her into the vet soon after getting her because she threw up and believed she had indigestion. She was prescribed heartburn pills and was fine. Because she was seen once for vomiting before policy, any future vomiting (poisoned or blockage even) would not be covered for 1 full year…as long as there was no more vomiting visits… regardless of the reason for vomiting. Embrace will find a reason to deny you your claim. Additionally, it was a huge pain to sending the few papers we had from vet visits for shots, a spay and a vomiting visit. They didn’t believe that was all we had done with the vet. Best of luck if you take them on.

    I have 2 dogs, both born with stenotic nares due to breed confirmation. The older dog’s surgery was covered, the younger dog’s surgery was not. The difference? The vet who saw my younger dog at first vet visit noted the condition while the vet who saw my older dog did not. So my $4500 claim was denied. I am dissatisfied enough with this decision that I am moving to another pet insurance provider. This is totally unacceptable and amounts to a loophole that Embrace uses not to pay claims.
