Only having worked with Embrace for a short while, I have been impressed. They have been reasonable in their claims assessments. They are objective when assessing claims and willing to consider dialogue with clients. Their customer support team is always friendly, knowledgeable and patient. I plan on continuing do business with them moving forward.

I have a puppy and wasn’t expecting to need insurance. I definitely used the wellness plan to pay for spay, but she had bad reactions to anesthesia. I had to take her to vet 3 times and all was reimbursed at 90% within 5 days! The wellness plan was great for spay and shots. It was also great for monthly flea, tick, and heart worm medication!
Thank you for the positive feedback on your reimbursement, Linda! We are happy to hear you found the additional wellness plan beneficial and that we could be here to help with the unexpected!

I've been with Embrace nearly 9 years. I have 2 Newfoundlands. Our policy cost has increased drastically each year. I'm up to $390.⁰⁰ monthly starting 1.27.24 for basic non-wellness. That is up from $282.68 in 23' and $172 in 22'. I was told my premium will be guaranteed to increase a minimum of 25%-35% next renewal. My girl is 8.5 yrs old. Gets a $50 HEALTHY credit off our deductible, well because she is healthy. Our boy is 3. Unfortunately has extremely rare tumors that Embrace insisted was allergies and would not cover. Cornell stepped in after our boy was given 6 months to live to help fight Embrace. They finally changed their minds. They said they only raise due to age not claims. Age is a factor because they are risky.
Why are you giving me a HEALTHY CREDIT for my 8.5 year old if you are going to penalize us by raising our policy cost. Trying to make us cancel??? We can't go to another company, we are trapped with preexisting conditions and these companies know this so they can charge or raise prices as high as they want. This needs looked at. They can't have it both ways.
Hello Heather, we are sorry to hear that. We know a premium increase is not ideal. Premiums do increase over time with all insurance products, and pet insurance is no exception. Some of the factors that impact premiums each year include the age of a pet, breed, and veterinary costs in the zip code where the pet resides. As you mentioned, the biggest factor impacting your premium increase is your pet's age. With each year a pet ages, they are statistically more likely to get sick or hurt, and we have to take that calculated risk into account when pricing premiums. Our premiums are based on actuarial data of all the policies we have in force, and the rates are filed and approved by each state’s Department of Insurance. Over the lifetime with any pet insurance company you are likely to see very similar trends, it just may vary when the increase happens. We do structure our policies to allow each pet parent to change coverage parameters to adjust the premium based on what they feel is best for their individual pet and situation.
We are always looking for ways to reward policyholders with healthy pets who have little to no claims which is why we do have our reward program in place. If you'd like to discuss our rewards program in more detail or review options on changing your pet's coverage to better fit your budget, please give us a call at 800-511-9172 and we are happy to help!

When I send claims they always have to get it from the vet as well. The vet and ER don’t send paperwork. I always have me to reach out to them and send to me then I send again. I don’t know what Embrace is looking for but I send the exact same bill and invoice. Bought the extra wellness to help with spaying but in couple months the vaccines took up all the money. Not worth it. Will look elsewhere next year.
Thank you for sharing your feedback on the claims process, Julie. We are sorry to hear that it has not met your expectations. We do need a complete itemized invoice to process a claim. If additional information is needed we do reach out to your veterinarian directly and will copy you on any email requests to keep you in the loop. At first, we were a little skeptical about getting pet insurance. We did the typical questions of “do we need it?” “How much will we actually use it?” And it only took once for us to realize we will never go without pet insurance again. Our puppy unfortunately had a seizure/stroke and had to be hospitalized for multiple nights and ultimately led to his passing, and the last thing we wanted to do was be stressed over the cost of it all. Luckily, we had the insurance for about 7-8 months and were able to file a claim and get almost all reimbursed. When having to call and ask questions, everyone was super nice and caring. When filing the claim itself, it took less than a week to get approved and have our funds back into our account. Although we lost our sweet baby, I have already recommended pet insurance to almost anyone I know, because you never know when you might need it, and the last thing you want to worry about amidst any problem with the animal is money.
We are so sorry to hear about the passing of your furry companion, Esteban. We appreciate you sharing your experience during such a difficult time. We are glad we could be there for you so you could focus on what matters most. Please know our thoughts are with you.

I called Embrace twice, specifically to ask if a prescribed supplement was covered under my policy. I was told that if it was written by a vet that it was probably covered. Both times I tried to tell them exactly what it was and they brushed me off by saying That I wouldn’t know until the claim was submitted. When I did submit the claim, I was told that it was not covered, because it was part of the wellness program. I consider this fraudulent business practices. I did my due diligence to find out if my coverage was sufficient to cover the prescribed item. My questions should’ve been answered honestly. Now I know that I cannot trust the representatives at Embrace to give me an honest answer when I take the time repeatedly to call and get the information.

I wish I could make this 0 stars. What a terrible and dishonest company. I should have spent more time doing research and not choosing based on the discount I received. They will not pay your claim. They will make it as painful as possible and will drag it out as long as they can to get you to give up. They will throw up roadblocks, ignore you, and ultimately find some weak loophole to deny your claim. We lost our dog recently, and very unexpectedly. She evidently had heart cancer of a type known to be a sudden killer. There was no evidence of this illness prior to us taking her to the vet due to a cough. We made medical decisions based on the fact we had insurance and were past our "waiting period".
Embrace not only denied paying anything and left me holding a $5000 bill, but they made me relive the entire thing every time I was forced to deal with their awful adjusters over months and months. My dog has been seeing the same vet regularly for 10 years. We saw an emergency vet and a veterinary cardiologist. All of them stated that even if our dog had been seen a just week before her illness manifest, no one would have found it and it would have been too late by months anyway. Classifying her illness as "pre-existing" is laughable, and all three vets were shocked when told. Do yourself a favor and avoid at all costs. They are a terrible, unethical company. Shame on Embrace.
Hello Kenneth, we are sorry to hear you had a negative experience. First and foremost we are so sorry to hear about the passing of your furry companion. We know that is a difficult thing to go through. We try to be as clear as possible about our exam requirements and pre-existing conditions which are in the policy terms and conditions: Part II 1. Your Pet must have been examined by a Veterinarian in the twelve (12) months prior to the Pet Original Start Date or within fourteen (14) days of the policy. Failure to do so will result in the illness waiting period being extended to the date of the first exam on file. This is also agreed upon when signing up for a policy and sent out as a reminder in your onboarding emails. By purchasing a policy, you give us permission to gather all medical history for your Pet(s) from all your Veterinary Providers as we deem necessary and we do need the complete medical history on file to process an accident or illness claim. The medical information must contain detailed Veterinarian examination findings and must be made available to us for review to satisfy the examination requirement in PART II. item 1. If you'd like to discuss this further, you can give us a call at 800-511-9172 and please know our thoughts are with you.

My dog went up a dollar and she is 2 years old. When you ask them why so damn much they read off some lengthy canned response that this is "increase is common practice with underwriters in pet insurance and typically it's a 20% increase." They are difficult to get ahold of and do not provide the service you pay for. Sent them a myriad of information and was still told that I had not provided enough to process the claim. Then when attempting to cancel my policy they have done everything they can to make it as difficult as possible. They are a money sink with no benefit to you or your pet. I would advise avoiding and seeking an alternative provider.
We are sorry to hear of your frustration with the claims process. In order to process an accident or illness claim we do need your pet's complete medical history on file as our terms and conditions state:
8. By purchasing a policy, you give us permission to gather all medical history for your Pet(s) from all your Veterinary Providers as we deem necessary. The medical information must contain detailed Veterinarian examination findings and must be made available to us for review to satisfy the examination requirement in PART II. item 1.
Obtaining medical history is a process we are continuously working to improve. We work directly with your vet to gather any additional medical records needed to review your pet’s complete medical history and we copy you on any email request to keep you in the loop. The good news is once your pet's medical history has been established, future claims tend to process much quicker and our standard processing time is 10-15 business days. For four months, many phone calls and emails, this company continued to charge my credit card for services that were severed in late July. I was told numerous times by representatives that I would be reimbursed these charges and that my credit card would be removed. This never happened, until very recently when the representative I spoke with immediately helped solve the issue (hopefully). I have never been so disappointed in a company and I would never recommend them!
In addition to this, it is extremely difficult to get vet visits covered. The site is not great and you sometimes don’t know what to choose for the vet visit. If you have used an old school home vet in the past, who doesn’t keep records, don’t waste your time, the company wants proof of previous vets visits and there is no way to prove that, which I understand. Prior to getting insurance for my pets, I had switched to a more modern vet for over a year but I was never able to have any sort of reimbursement for vet appointments and ultimately with paying for this insurance and for vet visits, I ultimately paid a significant amount more.

Embrace is Corrupt and Adds pre-existing conditions that will never covered to my dog even though the agent SPECIFICALLY confirmed they would be from a record and reviewed by, Senior Advisor, of call the day of my sign up with Embrace. My call with agent she confirmed upon sign up my dog's skin and paws would be covered, not a pre-existing condition. After my sign up and payment Embrace specifically said my dog's skin and paws are not covered even though she had no issues. Fraudulently added both as preexisting conditions, will never cover as doing opposite of what they confirmed and I would not be eligible at any other per insurance as Embrace has deemed my dog's skin and paws and ears as preexisting conditions. No remedy was made and no claims would ever be considered even after senior supervisor listened to call and confirmed.
The agent clearly said my dog's skin and paws immediately covered and Embrace has received 2 years of payments from me. Never reimbursed treatments and fraudulently added my dog's skin and paws as a pre-existing condition. My dog should be covered 100% now as agreed to when I signed up and agreed to terms for full coverage as I have abided by all terms and conditions. Embrace said there would be no exception of covering my dog's skin and paws even though they said only her ears would be in a waiting period by the senior rep after agreeing she listen to the lengthy call and confirmed the Embrace agent said only my dog's skin and paws covered, as we went through specific examples.
The Blatant breach and adding more areas of my dog that will never be covered is corrupt and Embrace committed fraud against me and would not remedy their deceptive selling technique. If Embrace specifically agreed to cover my dog's skin and paws and now her ears, and fraudulently said those areas will never be covered after I paid on time for over a year and increased my payment 35% for year 2 which I have paid, with no claims paid to me as my dog is generally healthy. The only remedy is for my dog to be 100% covered as told to me as I have complied but Embrace has fraudulently added preexisting conditions. I would have selected another insurance company to insure my dog if when asked during sign up if my dog's skin or paws would be a preexisting condition when it was very clearly just her ears, that now should be covered as well.
In addition to increase my monthly payment by 35% is outrageous as I have been reimbursed $0.00. I can not go to another company as because Embrace fraudulently added my dog's skin, paws, and ears as a preexisting condition. Any new company will start from those records. Very dissatisfied with Embrace fraudulent actions, even though nice agents. The company is not ethical and deliberately corrupt in not covering what they specifically agreed to. Unhappy with no remedy. Heather **

I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for the outstanding service and support. As a dedicated cat parent, ensuring the well-being of my feline companion, Baxter, is of utmost importance to me. Embrace Pet Insurance has played a crucial role in making this commitment a reality. My journey with Embrace began when I was researching pet insurance options for Baxter. After thorough consideration, I chose Embrace due to its reputation for comprehensive coverage and transparent policies. From the very beginning, the enrollment process was seamless and user-friendly, allowing me to customize a plan that suited Baxter’s needs.
What truly sets Embrace apart is the exceptional customer service I have experienced. The team has consistently gone above and beyond to address any questions or concerns promptly and with genuine care. Whether it was clarifying coverage details, or helping with the claims process, I always felt supported and valued as a customer.
One instance that stands out is when Baxter had an unexpected emergency swallowing some gauze. The stress of dealing with a sick pet was alleviated by Embrace's straightforward claims process. Submitting a claim was a breeze, and the reimbursement was processed efficiently, allowing me to focus on Baxter’s recovery without the added financial strain.
Moreover, the coverage provided by Embrace has proven to be truly comprehensive. It's reassuring to know that I can make decisions about Basters healthcare based on what's best for him, rather than being limited by financial constraints. Embrace's commitment to transparency and clarity in their policies has made managing Whiskers' health a much smoother and less worrisome experience.
In summary, my experience with Embrace Pet Insurance has been nothing short of exceptional. The peace of mind that comes with knowing Baxter is covered by a reliable and caring insurance provider is invaluable. Thank you for your dedication to pet health and for being a trusted partner in ensuring the well-being of our furry family members.

Because my dog had vomiting during the waiting period, Embrace claims it is undiagnosed, and therefore considered a temporary pre-existing condition and therefore any claim that even mentions vomiting will not be covered. In order for this temporary condition to be removed, there must be zero claims involving vomit for 12 months uninterrupted. I think vomiting is probably the most common symptom that happens whenever a dog becomes sick, so essentially having this pre-existing condition will allow Embrace to deny practically all of my claims.
My dog recently had a round of coughing, followed by antibiotics, and then later had coughing and difficulty breathing. I ended up taking to the urgent care where she was put on 24 hr oxygen. The physician had asked if she had vomited, and originally I said no as that was not a symptom that I was bringing her in for. I then remembered that she had vomited 4 days previously. The diagnosis was pneumonia, but the physician had included the statement about the vomiting and speculated that it COULD be aspiration pneumonia, or it could be unresolved from the earlier cough and sickness. Because vomiting was mentioned in the notes, Embrace denied my claim that was $4K+.
This was in August, and now it is all over the news that there is a highly contagious, antibiotic resistant respiratory virus that is making dogs very sick and killing some. I think it is highly likely this is what made my dog sick. If insurance doesn’t cover an unanticipated illness like this, then what is the point of insurance? I’m in the process of trying to fight the claim denial, but I am so very highly disappointed with Embrace and how this has been handled. I will be telling anyone with a dog to avoid Embrace.

Not worth the money. If I could rate lower I would. Don't let your animal get hurt during the first year. They'll deny your claim and say it's a preexisting condition. I'm out $ 7000.00 dollars cause my dog needed surgery. I should have listened to 3 veterinarians who said they wouldn't cover anything. My fault. They like to tell you they love animals and they're pet owners too, so what Jeffery Dahmer's neighbors used to say he was a good neighbor, quiet and polite but kept to himself. The only thing they care about is getting your premiums and getting their bonuses at the end of the year denying your claim.
We are sorry to hear your pet needed surgery and you were disappointed with your policy, Jason. We want to assure you we love paying claims. We are sorry to hear of your frustration with the claims process, Elidia. Although we try to process claims as quickly as possible, sometimes it can take longer to process the first accident or illness claim as we gather your pet’s complete medical history. Obtaining medical history is a process we are continuously working to improve. When new medical history is received it is reviewed by our adjusters who confirm if they have everything they need, and if additional information is needed we work directly with your vet and copy you on any email request to keep you in the loop. The good news is once your pet's medical history has been established, future claims tend to process much quicker and our standard processing time is 10-15 business days. Then, during the review they looked for everything little thing to say they wouldn't cover anytime in the future a variety of normal ailments (e.g. skin tag they said could be cancer, said dog had excessive plaque feet but records show zero issues, etc.). I cancelled mine and wouldn't buy it again for sure.
Hello Julie, we are sorry to hear you were disappointed with your policy. We try to be as clear as possible about our exam requirements and pre-existing conditions which are in the policy terms and conditions: Your Pet must have been examined by a Veterinarian in the twelve (12) months prior to the Pet Original Start Date or within fourteen (14) days of the policy. Failure to do so will result in the illness waiting period being extended to the date of the first exam on file. This is also agreed upon when signing up for a policy and sent out as a reminder in your onboarding emails. We do want you to have confidence in your policy, so we do offer a medical history review at the end of the 14 day illness waiting period which will let you know the exam requirements have been meet, and if there are any pre-existing exclusions or give you the all clear on coverage. This can be requested anytime after the 14 day illness waiting period, or if you do not opt to have this review done, then medical records are reviewed at the time of you first claim. We are sorry to hear you cancelled but if you'd like to discuss your concerns further or have additional questions, feel free to give us a call at 800-511-9172 and we are happy to help!

Embrace asked for my review, so here it is: My dog has never been sick before; this is the first claim I’ve submitted and I’m very disappointed in this company. They requested a medical review from the vet, which the vet provided with 2 hours of their request. It’s now been 5 business days since I submitted my claim. I asked about how long it’s going to take for their review and the answer was 10-15 business days. So, the minimum time that I’ll be waiting for any reimbursement is 15 business days. Why does the review have to take weeks, especially with a 1.4 month old dog that has only been neutered and received shots at the vet, along with his exam.
Btw, the anniversary of the date I had paid for the the policy was when they decided to raise the rates, even though I’ve never submitted a claim. I can only imagine what it’ll be by the time my dog is older. Something stinks about this company. I get the feeling they don’t want to pay out any claims. I would NOT sign up again.

My 5-month-old puppy had one episode of diarrhea before I signed up for this insurance. However, due to a past diagnosis of Giardia, which was successfully treated, the insurance provider categorized it as a pre-existing condition. Consequently, they refuse to cover any vet expenses related to diarrhea. I've had an unfortunate experience dealing with this insurance company's unprofessional and unfriendly team. It's frustrating to encounter such a lack of clarity and cordiality. In my honest opinion, it's best to avoid them as they seem determined to deny any claim you make for your pet. Embrace is a company that appears more interested in collecting your money than providing meaningful coverage. Good luck!
We are sorry to hear you were disappointed with your policy and had a negative experience, Ilo. We want to assure you we love paying claims. In fact, 92% of our claims qualify for coverage. We are unable to provide coverage for pre-existing conditions, which would mean your pet was showing signs, symptoms, or diagnosed with the related condition within the year prior to the policy purchase or within the waiting periods. There is a 2 day accident waiting period, a 14 day illness waiting period, and a 6 month orthopedic waiting period for dogs. We do however distinguish between temporary and permanent pre-existing conditions. If a pre-existing conditions is deemed temporary, if your pet goes 12 consecutive months without any recurrent signs or symptoms it could be eligible for expiration so we can provide coverage in the future. If you have any additional questions, concerns, or would like to discuss this further, please give us a call at 800-511-9172 and one of our Customer Care Embracers would be happy to help.

We initially bought pet insurance for both our dogs. When you initially sign up for their insurance you have to have your vet sign an orthopedic waiver. We did that for both our dogs in 2020 and our younger dog had no orthopedic issues. Fast forward to 2023, and our older dog dies and I want to increase the coverage for our other dog in case something happens to him. Because I changed the policy, Embrace makes you wait another six months under their orthopedic period.
During this time, our dog started to have a limp and I called to see what we could do. I was told about the orthopedic waiver at this time and was told I had to wait until 11/17/23 to even get an x-ray done. The rep told me that I could have a pre-cert form completed to see how much it would cost to have the x-ray. I called our vet and I HAD to have our vet examine him since he never had any issues in the past and she needed to see what was going on with him. I took him to the vet and she said an x-ray needed to be completed to see what was going on. She completed the pre-cert form and I sent it into Embrace.
I waited almost three weeks and received an email from a claims adjuster who reported that since I had the pre-cert form completed and the vet stated he had a limp the x-ray wouldn't be covered. Even after 11/17/23. I explained this makes no sense because in order for him to get an x-ray I had to take him to the vet for the limp. I was under the assumption that the pre-cert form would allow us to get an x-ray done earlier than 11/17/23, but this was not explained to me. I asked the claims adjuster if I had just waited until 11/17/23 and then had the x-ray it would have then been covered and she said yes. The communication was awful and now they won't pay for the x-ray.
After this fiasco, my husband and I decided to cancel our policy because we rarely take him to the vet and I'm not going to pay for insurance that won't even cover an x-ray. I feel deceived and lied to by their staff. They should have been more transparent with how they communicate especially when it comes to waiver periods and pre-existing conditions. What's incredibly frustrating is that the claims adjuster had one year worth of our dog's medical records which showed no previous limp and they still make you wait six months before you can the coverage you pay for.
Hello Jessica, first and foremost we are sorry to hear about the passing of your sweet companion. We understand going through such a stressful time could make you re-evaluate your coverage to ensure your policy still fits your needs. When coverage is increased the waiting periods, including the six month orthopedic waiting period, reset and any conditions that occurred prior to the upgrade date or within the new waiting periods are then considered pre-existing and will not be eligible for coverage. We strive to be as clear and upfront as possible in regard to the terms and conditions of the policy and in order to make that change, we are required to receive confirmation from you that you understand and acknowledge the result of the change.
Since we did receive that confirmation, we proceeded with fulfilling your request to increase the coverage. We understand this may not be the outcome you were hoping for, but we hope it helps provide some clarification in regard to our standard operating procedure. I see you already spoke with one of our team members about your concerns, but if you have any additional questions, please give us call at 800-511-9172 and we’re happy to help.

Where do I begin... I got Embrace $15k coverage in the worst case scenario for both my cats. I did a ton of research and they provided dental illness, waived exams if you paid for it, and had a deal for multiple cats. The only red flags were several reviewers said they had a tendency to really exaggerate and define everything as a preexisting condition.
Nothing happened for 3-4 months after receiving coverage. Then on a vet visit, my vet noticed my cat had loss weight. For my first vet visit claim, I found out they had never bothered to review my pet's medical records and proceeded to start adding ticky tacky "pre-existing conditions" which included something such as slightly dirty teeth now being an exclusion for dental diseases. I literally purchased them partially because they were one of the few companies that covered dental diseases. But apparently that has a massive asterisk to it.
The best part about my first claim? It took 1.5 months for them to start telling me anything and only after I had to reach out to embrace and the vets because apparently they were just going to string me along until I did anything. So basically I paid them for 4.5 months only to find out they were going to start adding ineligibility.
Flash forward to today 3 months from my first claim, I still haven't been paid yet. My cat is now dead. I am now finding out not only did they take 2.5 months to make their first decision on my pet's claim, they have suddenly reversed decision and telling me I'm not paying squat. Between dealing with my pet's health issues and death, I have to be the one constantly badgering the insurance company and reaching out to the vets to get information. Not only did I have to stress about my cat, I had to deal with this absolute dog poop of a company that has dragged its feet for anything just to screw me at every turn. I have spoken to probably 4 people at the company so far and I'm likely going to speak to a 5th. If you want an insurance company that will ultimately not pay you, expect you to do all the work yourself, try to put anything and everything as exclusionary, and just add stress to you while your pet is dying. Then yeah Embrace is for you.
What a frigging scam. I'm canceling my other pet's insurance policy. I have 0 trust if anything happened with my other cats they wouldn't find a way to bend me over here too. Could not recommend a company less - end to end, just completely screwing me. I guess it's better I find out now, because apparently if my cat had gotten sick 5 years from now they would have told me after collecting 5 years of checks they would just absolutely screw me. What the actual hell. 0 stars if I could. People are right, set aside the money you need - you won't get screwed. Embrace definitely is prone to flagging everything as pre-existing. I'm appealing but I expect nothing and just more stress. Thanks for squat!

for your Pet(s) and any related conditions; or
b. An Illness or Injury that first occurred or showed Clinical Signs prior to the end of the Waiting Period for
your Pet and any related conditions.
c. Undiagnosed conditions with the same Clinical Signs as those in a. or b. above are also considered pre-existing.
We do want you to have confidence in your policy, so we do offer a medical history review at the end of the 14 day illness waiting period which will let you know if there are any pre-existing exclusions or give you the all clear on coverage. If you do not opt to have this review done, then medical records are reviewed at the time of you first claim. Although we try to process claims as quickly as possible, sometimes it can take longer to process the first accident or illness claim as we gather your pet’s complete medical history. I’ve had an Embrace Pet Insurance Policy for several years and every claim has been denied. Most recently I took my dog Perry to an Emergency Veterinary Clinic for what was ultimately diagnosed as “Idiopathic Vestibular Syndrome, a neurological disorder seen in senior dogs. Embrace denied this claim because blood work done during the visit showed the presence of “Azotemia” or Renal Disease, a pre-existing condition. In other words they used the presence of kidney disease to not pay the claim for his new neurological disorder which is totally unrelated. This would be like not paying for cancer care because of the presence of kidney disease. They are completely unethical and I would not recommend Embrace to anyone!

I immediately cancelled the policy and requested a refund for the months I paid with no services provided in exchange. From January 24 to October 30, 2023, Embrace provided no coverage and did not attempt to contact me, obtain records, or cancel the policy. It’s understandable that insurance companies follow their outlined procedures to the letter. However, Embrace almost always delays the claim by needling to ask the vet for further documentation. Even when the invoice is sent fully complete with taxes, and all payments listed, they need to ask the vet for more documentation. In this case the invoice was for a non-covered therapy, just to document a dental cleaning under anesthesia. But, still same issue, they need further “complete” invoice.

I have NO IDEA how others are saying they've been having such a wonderful experience! I wish I could say the same! That was the idea when I purchased the pet insurance for my husky and mini Pomeranian, and sadly I've been let down multiple times. Their drop down menu for describing the reason for the vet visit is a fail. They couldn't wait to deny me for a "wellness exam" that they do not cover for them. Firstly, the visits were not wellness exams (for both dogs). And no matter how many times I call, nothing gets resolved. Then my Pomeranian has surgery and it's STILL pending an entire month later because of some documents from her first visit to the vet which I already submitted two weeks after I purchased the insurance, because Embrace has you make an appointment and submit those forms from that visit within a specific timeframe.
Now all of a sudden they need these documents I know they already have. I am getting so frustrated with this company and I am starting to believe the positive reviews are not even real. I cannot be the only person this has happened to. These people are NEVER going to reimburse me for my pet's vet surgeries and visits. They make you wait through a waiting period because they don't want to get scammed, but what are they doing to me and my pets? Then paying them my hard earned money for free? So, I'm just paying this bill for no reason?
Once a month I pay them money for them to play their insurance tactics to reduce, lag, deny, and reject my claims when I finally do need them to have my back? This is ridiculous and HORRIBLE. My next move is to write to the California Department of Insurance Claims Service Bureau. I do not believe this company ever plans on helping me, but merely hoping that I give up. I cannot STAND selfish companies like this. It's too much drama.
We are sorry to hear of your frustration with the claims process, Marie. If you are unable to find the proper diagnosis for your claim in the drop down menu, there is an additional place to add extra notes of why your pet was evaluated that day. Although we try to process claims as quickly as possible, sometimes it can take longer to process the first accident or illness claim as we gather your pet’s complete medical history. Obtaining medical history is a process we are continuously working to improve. We work directly with your vet to gather any additional medical records needed to review your pet’s complete medical history and we copy you on any email request to keep you in the loop. The good news is once your pet's medical history has been established, future claims tend to process much quicker and our standard processing time is 10-15 business days. I have insured three pets with Embrace. All of my pets were adults when I adopted them and by then each had their own pre-existing condition that I knew wouldn't be covered. But in spite of that, as my dogs entered their senior years, Embrace was always there for their regular wellness, for an accident one dog had that caused a dislocated hip, and the other ailments that came up in both dogs' geriatric years. But I have never had to ask myself if I should get a dental cleaning, or schedule a surgery, or take my dog to see a specialist, or have an MRI done because I knew I could submit the claim to Embrace.
My dogs got the best care the doctors could provide, up until the very end of their lives. My cat is still enjoying the benefits of Embrace. And the peace of mind that I could rely on Embrace to process the claims quickly and efficiently helped me get through that uniquely special and heart-breaking late phase of each of my dogs' lives. Embrace Pet Insurance is one of the best financial and emotional decisions I have ever made. I always recommend it to my friends when they adopt a pet.

The request for paperwork from birth was required, that was not what I was first told. I was then told that if it was an emergency visit, which it was, the cost would be covered. Again that wasn’t the case! Items were not paid for because they were “regular” visit procedures. They WERE NOT done under a regular visit, it was all due to the emergency visit. Very disappointed because I was told one thing upon starting the 3 policies and then something else was done.

Bought pet insurance with wellness for almost $100 a month because I had expected to need it for my dog. I had multiple vet inspections prior to buying the insurance and my dog is healthy. I took her to get fixed and submitted the claim promptly to Embrace. It took two months with a large number of calls and emails to both Embrace and my vet to get the claim approved. Embrace kept sending my vet requests for a full medical chart on my dog, which my vet didn't have. Embrace insisted they needed this to consider my claim. The only time anything happened was when I was actively calling Embrace to move it forward.
Ultimately, after several different Embrace service reps, I got one that told me they could just send the vet a questionnaire in lieu of a medical file. The claims manager never did that. Several other service reps never said that. I never would've known if I didn't constantly have to follow up on it. I have 2 stars instead of 1 because it finally got approved. Very expensive service especially when you have to do all the work yourself. Wouldn't recommend.
We are sorry to hear of your frustration with the claims process, Scott. Although we try to process claims as quickly as possible, sometimes it can take longer to process the first claim if there are accident or illness related charges as we gather your pet's complete medical history. Obtaining medical history is a process we are continuously working to improve. We work directly with your vet to gather any additional medical records needed to review your pet’s complete medical history and we copy you on any email request to keep you in the loop. While you certainly don't have to, it can be helpful if you reach out to your veterinarian as well to let them know we need additional documentation. The good news is once your pet's medical history has has been established, the claims submission experience should be easier and more straightforward with our standard processing time being 10-15 business days.

I have never dealt with such lousy pet insurance in my life. They ask you over and over for the same documents from me and the veterinarian. Always trying to deny your claim. They scrutinized every piece of paper trying to find a way not to reimburse you a penny. These veterinarians are trying to save or prolong the lives of our pets rather than have to write a book on their non preexisting conditions. I hate I got involved with this company. Now they are not going to cover any of one of my dogs dermatology skin issues because they are trying to say it was a preexisting condition which is a boldface lie because I got him as a 0 to 12 week old puppy from a reputable GSD breed that had no skin issues I think until the end of last year or the beginning of this year.
He just turned 2 years old this past May 23. How can you label something preexisting when it just started? STUPID!! I will be contacting the attorney general and the insurance commissioner about this. Now I can’t get another pet insurance to cover this now preexisting skin condition. How fair is that?!! I always paid in in good faith and do expected to be treated in good faith. BEWARE EVERYONE. RIPOFF CON ARTIST COMPANY!!! That’s all they are to me.

It took nearly six weeks to get my first claim responded to only to have it denied. When I first joined I authorized full access to my dog's medical records. My German shepherd was 6 years old and very healthy. No preexisting conditions and regular vet care. At one visit a year before I added insurance, I talked to my vet about itching just to get some baseline info. They offered ** if I thought it would make our dog more comfortable. As I read up on it, I decided along with my vet that Jazzy did not need to continue it.
Four months after we started her with insurance she had an ear hematoma with no clear cause. Embrace linked the hematoma to a a dermatitis skin condition when jazzy has never been confirmed as having that PLUS her hematoma could be caused by several other things than itching. I felt the subsequent communication and review of our claim was very perfunctory and difficult. A very disappointing first experience with insurance.

If you know what you are getting you will not be disappointed. Recently I added a rescue to my policy and she ended up being pretty sick. Embrace and I went back and forth on what was pre-existing. The first list I was provide troubled me as it was extensive. I filed a request for a review and what Embrace came back with was so much better and I was very happy. There was still one condition that I wanted to discuss with them. My pup was very sick and the medical history was complicated and the timeline from visiting several vets was hard to put all the pieces together. I expected the Embrace team to grow tired of my back and forth and reject my final plea but they really listened and really worked to understand the order of events.
It took a few months but the underwriting finally was able to see the big picture. I was so overjoyed that they reprocessed several claims and paid out almost $1500 the next day. Embrace has won my loyalty. Thank you Embrace for taking care of my pet family. A big thanks to Alissa **, Claims Adjuster and Rachel **, Chief Underwriter on behalf of American Modern Home Insurance Company for being my advocates.

Then rather than just reject my claim they placed it “on hold” probably hoping I would just forget about it…and I nearly did, but I check my credit card and the charge for their “service” reminded me. I have never written a review before in my life. That is how angry I am about my experience with this company. I originally bought a comprehensive insurance plan for my dog and then was even sold a further wellness plan by an agent on the phone to supplement illness and accident. I did this mainly because at some point I wanted to get my dog’s teeth cleaned. Little did I know, that would never happen because a vet already identified that my dog has tartar on his teeth. So beware. But what actually happened was even worse.
My dog was recently sick with gastroenteritis which lead to several visits to urgent care. And in order to get treatment it was recommended that I have several expensive tests like and x-ray, bloodwork and fecal test. Normally, because I don’t earn that much money, I would have waited it out several days and stressed myself out because I couldn’t afford the tests. This time I had insurance. Or so I thought.
After waiting an extensive period of time where Embrace harassed all of my vets for information that was sent to them numerous times, they declined all of my claims because ONE WEEK short of a year ago, my dog had possible nausea noted in a wellness visit to the vet. So they are calling it a pre-existing condition. Something akin to the common cold is being called a pre-existing condition. I don’t know how they say that with a straight face. When I go into my account and read my policy it doesn’t say anything about this unless you get really into the weeds of the fine print but that is what they lean on to deny claims, meanwhile their agents are not telling you this when they are selling the policies.
Regardless, it’s not even valid because there was nothing wrong with my dog at that time. I happened to mention that he had eaten grass. The vet said he could be nauseous, but it turns out my dog just likes to eat grass. I was there for a vaccine, not illness. And now I’m out $3000 that I didn’t have and don’t know how I’m going to pay it. They will find any reason possible not to pay your claim. Buyer beware. Also, they only work East Coast business hours and their hold times are hellacious so even though while in the urgent care I did try to call to confirm coverage, I was never able to reach anyone. Please be very careful and make sure you read all of the fine print and don’t assume they will cover anything even if they proclaim it. I lost my faith in humanity a little this week.

My dog went to vet for diarrhea and limping on front leg. Neither pre-existing conditions. She has rotating patella on back leg but never issue with front in past. Waiting a month and still no decision on the claim. I canceled with them. Horrible pet insurance.

I can't recommend Embrace enough. When talking about pet insurance with friends and colleagues, I often hear that it is a scam. But having Embrace has paid for itself several times over financially and in peace of mind. My dog has had two very costly emergencies and Embrace has covered both. During this second emergency, if he was not insured I likely would have had to put him to sleep. Embrace has followed through and helped save my dog's life twice, while saving me from financial ruin. Do not let bad reviews/experiences deter you from protecting your pet. Read the policy closely and insure your pet early. It could end up saving your pet's life. All and all, comparing policies, cost and trustworthiness, Embrace is one of the best pet insurance companies out there. I am so glad I have it more my dog.

For years, I've been paying nearly $200/month for my older dog. I've never filed a claim once. In July, she suddenly needed serious dental work (a lot to process financially and emotionally). I'm 9 months pregnant, working full-time, and have been juggling a lot. Yesterday, I sat down to formally file the claim. That's when I learned the window closed 2 weeks ago. I had no idea there even was a claim window---apparently this is only after a policy renews. The rep told me my renewal was 6 days after the procedure (seriously, just 6 days!). For that reason, the window kicked in and they won't even consider the claim. Had the emergency happened a week later, there'd be no issues, which is a reality I'm struggling to wrap my head around. I can't begin to describe how disappointed I am with Embrace, or how stupid I feel for giving them so much money over the past few years...
The policy doesn't cover preventive care (I have to pay *another* plan for that), only emergencies; so, now that I'm finally facing one, I can't believe Embrace won't consider reviewing it given how close it was to the renewal... This is an unfathomably profitable company. I'm not sure how a business taking in *so much money* from its customers won't even offer an appeals process. There's nothing patient- or client-centered about Embrace. If you're in the unfortunate position of working with them, please do yourself a favor and (1) read through every fine line of your policy, (2) set calendar reminders for policy renewals, and (3) file all claims immediately. Embrace's policies and procedures are designed to make reimbursement as challenging as possible.

I have the insurance and wellness for a one-year female pitbull mix (first) and 3-year-old male boxer I just rescued. I’ve used the wellness two times and one illness for kennel cough this past week.
It’s easy, convenient all claims are submitted from your phone and phone reimbursement completed either by check or direct deposit. Reimbursement is quick and easy. The only thing I would change is there should be more than $650 in wellness. I only have $350 left and I have another round of vaccines and heat-worm test and only received three months of flea and tick. It’s easier to pay a little bit a month but it will all out of pocket. But after having my policy she had a very bad case of gastroenteritis unrelated to the worms. Regardless, this is labeled a preexisting condition for the next year and they did not reimburse me a complete amount due to this. I wish I had read these reviews before changing over to Embrace Pet Insurance. I wholeheartedly agree with the people who were taken in by pre-existing conditions of lipomas and tartar, which apparently was the reason my claim was denied...And will be denied in the future for any of these reasons. I told my vet how they are even lumping the catch-all, "including cancer," as a pre-existing condition; she was appalled. Just to be clear, my dog has never had cancer. I spoke with a representative, who was syrupy (and condescendingly) sweet, but could provide no reason why I should even have pet insurance. Each hypothetical injury/disease was met with the standard "well, it depends on XYZ" or "each case is different." Bottom line, they will do and/or say anything to get out of helping to pay your bill.
In fact, if I had set aside the money I paid in premiums, I would have saved close to the actual bill amount. Because this company is associated with USAA, I thought it would be better than a basic insurance company. Boy, was I wrong! Save yourself heartache and time by "paying" yourself the premium cost and using that to take care of the bills.

Not only was I told she will never be covered for any gastrointestinal issues. They also mentioned that her dermatological issue will be covered after a year has passed. FYI, it was an ear infection!! Stay away from this company!! Everyone is nice until they have to pay. Bye, Bye Embrace!!
We are sorry to hear you were disappointed with your policy, Daniela. We want to assure you we love paying claims. In fact, 92% of our claims qualify for coverage! I see you already spoke with one of our team members, but if you have any additional questions, please give us call at 800-511-9172 and we’re happy to help.

If you've taken your pet to the vet before, Embrace is likely not for you. My expectation was clear pre-existing conditions would be covered but had no idea how one-sided their rulings would be with an intentionally cumbersome appeal process. Had your dog in for the vet to look at a benign cyst a year ago? Embrace's stance: "All types of cancers are permanently ineligible for coverage" Our pet recently was cut on his stomach accidentally by the groomer and Embrace determined that an ear infection a year prior made it ineligible since it was related to the "derm." We were highly dissatisfied with their claim process and their support team.

I have been a Policyholder for my cat Felix for the last 3 years. Embrace has always quickly processed my claims and I never had a single issue. They have always been very helpful and nice. I had heard a lot of bad things about pet insurance company but with Embrace everything has always been very smooth. I strongly recommend this company. My cat Felix passed away last Saturday and today I called Embrace to let them know. They showed a lot of empathy and told me that they would expedite my opened claims that I submitted last weekend. They were very nice and said they would credit me the remaining of the month I had paid since my cat passed away. This is a very good company and I will buy a policy for my other cat.

I also used a local Veterinary service in San Leandro CA. I spoke with customer service at Embrace two times and received friendly professional help. I submitted all invoices to Embrace and received updates via the website. The process was efficient, prompt and my bank account was credited as expected with the amount I claimed minus the contract deductible. I would recommend Embrace Pet Insurance.

Embrace bent over backwards, specifically Dan F. in the claims department, to get my little Italian greyhound's broken leg surgery covered - despite the odds against me regarding waiting periods. They helped me through the process of getting all of my previous vet's medical history, as well as getting a pre-certification filled out by the emergency veterinary surgeon, so as to have the best chance to get her surgery covered. Thanks to all of their help and guidance Ducky was pre-approved within ONE DAY, 12 hours after my first phone call with Embrace, she was approved. Ducky was then able to get her surgery the next morning. Cannot rave enough about how great they were and un-insurance-like the entire experience was. Embrace and USAA set the standard here and I will recommend them to everyone considering pet insurance!

Embrace company is compassionate; most importantly, they care about your pet. What they say is what they do without any questions. They are honest and truthful, but the most important thing is that they care. Embrace Insurance is the most reasonable and provides the best care. Many other Insurance companies promise you the best coverage and price to pay each month, but my friends end up dropping them due to non-payment and high insurance rates. If you want a company that does what it says, then Embrace is the best company, in my opinion.
Hello Ben,

Hold message says "manage everything from our website". You can't even make changes to your plan on the website AND they don't message you back if you use the live help option.

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY! I have always had pets and never had pet insurance until recently. I purchased this policy and Embrace found a way to essentially carve out every possible body part on my dog including anything dermatological, because she was itchy at one vet visit.. Show me a dog who was never itchy for a 12 month period of time, because that is apparently what it takes to be covered... In any case in my opinion the insurance is a total waste of time and money and the adjuster on our file was condescending and just plain rude. Wouldn't recommend this to anyone.

A lot of red tape - which by design or default may lead you to avoid filing a claim! Embrace has very specific requirements for Veterinary Clinic invoices that they will or won't accept - if the invoice isn't prepared the way they like... they will reject your claim (or place it on 'hold'... effectively doing the same thing). Embrace didn't substantially follow through with Veterinary Clinics to receive their detailed, specific information requirements. Rather than call the clinic, they just put the claim on 'hold'... which could effectively kill the claim without your intervention. I had to call Embrace and request that they join a 3 way call with the Vet for Embrace to gain the information they required to process my claim. It was an easy fix - that they didn't do themselves... They put our claim 'on hold.'
I found there are a number of detailed requirements that Embrace has to place a claim on hold and effectively burden the claims process to the point where a consumer may feel it is easier to stop pursuing the claim than follow-through on behalf of Embrace. Once you file your first claim, Embrace needs to review the pet's medical history (I was told that they could take up to 30 days to review the history) before deciding on your claim. We had a medical history with the vet for our pets, but it felt like another pathway to deny claims... for pets that don't have/gain a medical history prior to a claim.
Hello Brian, we are sorry to hear you are disappointed with your policy. We do need a complete invoice as well as your pet's full pre-policy medical history in order to process an accident or illness claim. Obtaining medical history is a process we are continuously working to improve. We work directly with your vet to gather any additional medical records needed to review your pet’s complete medical history and we copy you on any email request to keep you in the loop. The good news is once your pet's medical history has has been established, future claims tend to process much quicker and our standard processing time is 10-15 business days. You are always welcome to reach out to us at 800-511-9172 to check on the status of a claim and we are happy to help!

On August 31st, after many vet visits (both emergency and home) the vet recommended that my dog be be euthanized. It was an agonizing decision and she’d been my best friend for 15 years. We made the decision and afterward I submitted my claim which was denied because of a 2020 diagnosis of arthritis (even though the reason for her euthanasia was a tumor on her spleen and her severe decline over two weeks). I wrote back immediately asking for the claim to be reviewed and heard nothing back. I then wrote on September 10th that I wanted to cancel my insurance effective immediately but was charged me $183 on September 12th. This just adds insult to injury. I’ve lost my dog, my insurance refuses my claim and then charged me on top of it. I can’t recommend enough that people stay away from Embrace if you have an elderly dog.

Embrace has been pretty decent with their turnaround times for claims in the last year. But after renewing my policy this year, they have been refusing to process any new claims. They keep asking for more medical records from vet visits despite having provided them with ALL the records from ALL past visits. What's most puzzling is why they need records from 2022 again for vet visits from 2023? They already have those records from the 2022 claims. This just seems like a lazy excuse to not honor their end of the insurance contract.
It appears that the quality of the "claims adjusters" has dramatically declined. A silver lining is that the customer representatives are still nice, but it takes an eternity to get hold of one! I'll update this review if anything changes, but after over 2 months of going back and forth over the claims, I don't have much hope from this company.

However, two weeks after advising them I was cancelling the policy I received a notice that they were raising my monthly premium. My decision to get pet insurance weighed on any potential pre-existing conditions my cat may have, as she's had some urinary issues in the past and I don't want to be surprised if they won't cover future claims. I requested a medical review the day I started my policy, but they require you to wait 14 days. After giving them all the vet information, they say you won't hear anything during the 30 days it takes for them to do the review. After 30 days I follow up several times to see where the results are, to find out that they don't have records from one of the vets. It's now been 40 days and they have sent a single email to the vet, no follow up emails or call (and I didn't know we were waiting on this, not the review or I would've called).
They send another request and I call the vet the same day and they say they've already sent the records and have no record of any other requests being sent! I ask the Embrace rep for proof of their first request and they relent--they did not send a request for 38 days. Apparently "We, unfortunately, cannot monitor each and every request sent daily but we try and make sure everything runs as smoothly as possible." means they send at best one email and do nothing else without your intervention.
At my job, I would be expected to follow up and, if a customer is coming to me after a month of waiting, I would be calling, not emailing, to get a response ASAP. I assume this lack of tenacity extends to their claims processing. Only after sending another email do they promise to rush the actual review.Once I got the review, I noticed they had dates of lab work incorrect so the curable pre-existing conditions wouldn't be waived for an additional 2 months. I'm sure I could've fought this but I didn't see a point. I'd rather just pay vet bills than add this kind of back and forth to my workload. Of course when I asked for the 40 extra days they made me wait for the medical results to be added to my pro-rated refund when I cancelled, they said "we can't do a full refund" which was not what I was asking for. Their attention to detail is atrocious. This was a waste of my time and $100.
Hello Kimberly, we are sorry to hear you are disappointed in your policy. We do offer a medical history review so you can have a better understanding of your pet's coverage. Obtaining medical history is a process we are continuously working to improve. It's very telling when the first thing the vet asks you is if you have insurance. Submitting claims for all of his appointments, x-rays, and ultimately the surgical procedure were very easy and the turn around time from Embrace was exceptional. Money well spent for peace of mind knowing my pup can get the proper care he needs for a long, healthy active life.
