My dog Charlie, who was a beautiful, English black lab die at the age of 6 years old from chronic kidney failure. He was still a puppy in his mind. I fed him Beneful his entire life except when he was a puppy and I still fed him Purina puppy chow. Then one night he was very lethargic and dehydrated. I then took him to the vet and they put him on IVs but there was nothing they could do. I took him home and he died in my arms that night on the couch. It has been 5 years since he died and my heart is still broken. He was a perfectly healthy energetic Lab. There is no reason he should have died so suddenly of kidney failure. How do I join this lawsuit?

We fed our mini schnauzer Beneful dry dog food for a few months and he became lethargic over this time. He was no longer playful and seemed to tire easily. We switched until last week. We got another bag of Beneful and in the last four days our dog has become lethargic again, isn't eating well, limps, became yellow around eyes and looks weak eyed and this morning had an episode of what seemed to be stomach spasms that made him cry out and then go stiff. We are changing him back to a higher quality brand of food! From all the complaints I have read recently, I do not understand why anyone would use Beneful dog food in any form. The first time we used Beneful healthy weight and the last time just regular Beneful and both produced the same or similar symptoms in our poor dog! I love my dog too much to ever allow him to eat this dog food again!

I just lost my doberman girl yesterday. She was a healthy 95lb., 7 year old. Never had problems with her at all. Indoor dog that didn't have an accident in the house unless she needed to. We switched to Beneful and she started vomiting and had black soft bloodied stool. Lost her appetite and grew lumps in her throat. She lost so much weight where she was skin and bones. Her death was something I have to live with for the rest of my life. Please don't feed your loved ones this. I can't believe I'm reading all this WAY too late. I can't stop blaming myself knowing I'm responsible for putting this toxic in my baby's belly:( I will never forgive myself. She died on my arms Sunday morning in my room with me kissing her beautiful nose.

However, within 3/4 months of eating Beneful twice a day, he developed liver and kidney failure and ulcer in his stomach causing bleeding and vomiting lime green bile in the end making us having to put our family member down.

My dog Coco passed away last night after being hospitalized for 2 days. I was feeding her Beneful Healthy Weight with real chicken dry dog food. Her doctor said she ate something toxic. I have a fenced in backyard and she only goes out to use the bathroom. There is nothing in my house that she could've gotten a hold of so the only thing left is the dog food. She hadn't been acting herself for a while, but I thought it was age. I had taken her to the Vet twice in the last 2 weeks, but no blood work was done.

The 1st time, she had been peeing uncontrollably, vomiting and could barely get up to walk. They thought her muscles were sore from playing with my grandchildren and gave her medicine for pain. The 2nd time, she had an ear infection, so she was given an ear cleaning and an antibiotic in her ear. Prior to her being hospitalized, she passed stool, peeing on herself and blood was on the floor and I couldn't tell where it came from, frothing at the mouth, vomiting and incoherent. At the hospital she was in a daze, kept spiking temperature (up to 107.7), her bloodwork was all out of wack, liver and gallbladder were failing and she wasn't responding to any treatment until she passed away last night, undoubtedly in pain.

My dog is now dying from kidney failure... Which I am sure is cause by this poison they call Beneful. She was a high energetic... fun loving and outgoing member of my family... Now I find out today she is dying... laying around, will barely eat or drink. She has lost weight as well. She was eating the Original and Healthy weight brand dog food... And now we are losing a member of our family due to the greed and lack of compassion of the money hungry company, who won't stand up and admit this wrongdoing. Shame on you. Nothing but disgust... And I will let everyone I know about this horrific company and their practices.

I have been feeding my two dogs Beneful wet (in the tubs). One a maltese, one is a poodle, two tablespoons of Beneful with their dry dog food which is Nutro Ultra for three (3) years. I noticed one month ago my maltese's coat was very dry and she seemed lethargic then it seemed she started having what we thought were mini strokes. We took her to her vet and he did several tests and lots of blood work and seemed she had a toxin build up in her system. We were told to take her off the Beneful immediately which we did. We did all we could do, but she was already in organ failure and Friday November 20th we said goodbye to her. Without an autopsy we could not prove it was the Beneful but according to what our vet reported in a new study it was the Beneful.

Soon after then back to Beneful and I notice the other two feeling really sick, they would throw up white, that was a few months ago. Last night my beautiful dog Yukki suffered from a terrible seizure, she didn't make it. I'm convinced it's this food.

I have used Beneful for my dog for years and he is now 11 years old. I give him both the tubs and the dry to eat at his leisurely. He has always enjoys the tubs due to the smell and the vegetables that are in these products. You can actually see the carrots and green beans as well as the meat giving it that almost home cooked appearance. The quality and freshness is always visible upon opening the secure seal. Being exceptionally picky on his dry food he enjoys anything that has chicken. I would recommend this product for those furbabies that are picky eaters or will eat just about anything.

Reasonably priced, readily. Totally mediocre ingredients, but better than Alpo and the local brands. Use it for 'filler' primarily. Better than sawdust and the store (i.e. Walmart, etc.) brands.

After eating the Beneful her eyes swelled right up and her mouth. I did not realize that it was the food. I gave her Benadryl and took the food away in case. It was after a week when she got better. I tried the Beneful again and she instantly reacted! I don't know what is in this dog food but it's not good!

Recently, we switched her to Beneful, which she likes even better. We use dry food, as she is a "grazer," and eats throughout the day as she feels like it.

My little yorkie Sasha got sick in may of this year. We took her to the vet and at first they sent her home with medicine for her tummy. The next day she seemed to be worse and we took her back. They kept her there and put her on IVs. The Dr. said that she had gotten something toxic in her system but the blood work didn't show what. After two days on IVs she wasn't getting any better. We brought her home on Friday to be with us and the vet wanted us to bring her back on Monday to be put down. We kept Sasha comfortable and gave her pedialyte.

Sunday afternoon I told her that I knew how sick she was and I knew that she knew how much we loved her. I told her that it was OK for her to go. I just couldn't bear knowing that she was going to have to be put down. At 6 that afternoon she left us in my husband's arms. Sasha was my life and I know that I will never be able to get over losing her. Sasha started having diarrhea, not eating and drinking a lot of water. We had all three of my yorkies on Beneful. She was also having seizures. My two boys seems to be OK.

I've tried a variety of dog food brands in my search for a kibble that would satisfy the requirements of my three small dogs all of whom have sensitive stomachs and occasional minor weight issues. Beneful "Healthy Weight" has done a great job in meeting our needs and the dogs all seem to love its taste. Beneful is not inexpensive though and I am glad when I can occasionally find it on sale. I've also found that most stores that carry it seem to have at least some trouble keeping it in stock. The price is about as reasonable as any I have ever tried & we can get it at WalMart... We generally have had decent experiences with feeding our Australian Shepherd Purina. We use the Purina 'Beyond' feed and he has never had an adverse reaction. This is dog is one year old, healthy active and with zero allergies. This morning and this evening he had the Purina 'Beneful' feed and within the hour of the first feeding he was profusely vomiting and his face swelled. By the second feeding he almost went into a full anaphylactic shock. Luckily, with some quick thinking after contacting the vet, we gave him a dose of Benadryl. He is now resting and feeling slightly better but I am now reconsidering the brand I feed my pure bred pup. I am not sure that our family is willing to risk the health (and cost) of our well trained and healthy beloved pet.

Four months later on Thursday, October 8th, 2015, the 2nd of our 2 dogs(the one NOT experiencing problems initially), died in my arms. She fell violently ill on Wednesday the 7th without any warning. She experienced vomiting, dehydration, diarrhea, swelling, hints of blood in saliva...

She exhibited every symptom reported by other people who's dog got sick after eating Purina's Beneful Dog Food products. On Friday morning, she had a seizure and died in my arms as our car was warming up to go to the vet. This was my wife's service dog, a valued family member, and quite honestly, my best friend. My perfectly healthy 5-year old mini dachshund eats a regular diet of dry food by a brand called Nutro. I was in a pinch in my new neighborhood for food and grabbed a bag of Purina Beneful small bites from the local store. I gave him 1/2 cup that evening, a 1/2 cup the next morning mixed with Beneful wet food and a 1/2 cup dry that night. He loved it and scarfed it down! We went about our normal routine. After dinner he loves to nap on my lap. He settled in for his nap and out of nowhere started to stretch out his body in a way I have never seen. He then fell flat off the couch and began seizing. A grand mal seizure is what I was told by the vet. It lasted 7 minutes. The most horrifying heartbreaking minutes of my life.

By the time I returned from the vet a few blocks up (I ran my baby there in the rain in a blanket with) he was back to normal. There is nothing wrong with him thankfully but the only conclusion is the Beneful!!! I then looked online to see if this happened to others and I was disgusted by what I read. So many dogs seizing, dying and sick from this product. How is this on the market still! How does a trusted name like Purina get away with this and how do they not care. Do not ever give your dog PURINA BENEFUL PRODUCTS OR PURINA FOR THAT FACT AND THEN JOIN THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT TO RID OF THIS FOOD!

I had fed my dogs Beneful before but about a month ago, I bought my 9 year old chocolate lab Beneful Original dog food. She ate it fine for about a week but then she stopped eating it, going the whole day without food. She then started throwing up occasionally which was basically just stomach acids and occasional blades of grass. I stopped putting the Beneful in her bowl because she wasn't eating it. I started making her rice and bland meat so she would stay nourished. She was still drinking plenty of water but her stools had gotten soft and diarrhea like. The vomiting continued and actually increased.

I took her to the vet today and learned that she is in kidney failure. Her blood levels were so high, their indicator couldn't measure them. We are keeping her comfortable with medication and we spoil her for the little time we have left with her. I wish I had paid more attention to the Facebook posts about this dog food and maybe we'd have more than a few days. I wish I hadn't gone with the "standby" quick choice this time.

Recently I decided to introduce a new dry food to my dog's diet. We still gave her the old food, but also offered her small amounts of Purina Incredibites. After two days (and about 1 to 2 cups of the new food ingested total) she started throwing up like crazy. She pukes twice until all of the food was out and another 6 times of just bile. We thought maybe she just got an irritation and didn't think a ton of it, but decided to keep an eye on her. The next day (yesterday) she puked her food again until her stomach was empty and then Joy proceed to puke up bile over and over for the next hour. I called the vet and they said if she was acting normal to just keep watching for another day, but that if she acted odd or puked more to call them back.

Now, I have a super hyper dog. She will play fetch all day if you let her and is always running. Yesterday, all she wanted to do was lay in bed beside me. Every now and then she would put her face on my lap and whine, but wouldn't want anything (like to play ball or go outside). We called the vet and they asked us to bring her in. They sent us home with antibiotics and told us to take the new food away completely. Thankfully, we took it back to the place we purchased it and they gave us a refund.

She's now had only two doses of the antibiotics, but I am still seriously worried about her. She's had black, tarry diarrhea twice since coming home and keeps just whining. The vet wants to see her again on Monday if she's still not better. I can't say for sure that the Incredibites caused this, but I won't ever risk it again. She's never been sick before and she's five. I'm so worried for her. I'll update my review if I find out food wasn't the issue or if she gets worse.

As a healthy eater myself, this naturally extends to my animals. Carefully reading labels, I chose a grain free kibble and a few tablespoons per day of Beneful wet food to my pug Rainie's daily diet. From reading all these reviews, I despair because it must have been like giving her arsenic daily since my experience parallels so many of these tragedies... On Labour Day (Sept 7/15) we raced Rainie to the Emergency vet clinic 45 min. away when she began seizing clear out of the blue. I had seen some vomit on floor and thought it was my cat having eaten a mouse or hair balls. Rainie had the runs for 2 days, being a holiday w/e I was waiting for Tuesday to book appt with vet. I stopped counting after 15 seizures racked our little pug's body as we raced to the vet. Her temperature had risen to severe levels and once stabilized, we were waiting to see what toll the seizures had taken. She passed away from a cardiac arrest 5 hrs. later that day.

Today, reading these reviews and wishing I had known sooner about the perils of Beneful's poisonous garbage masquerading as nutrition. While it is too late for Rainie and many others who loved their pets as much as I did, we have to find a way to stop these Beneful bandits in their tracks. I sure wish I had followed my mother's lead who fed our dog (also a pug) homemade food - she lived to be 16 years old, not die at 4 years old like Rainie did.

Had been using Science Diet for my dogs for years with no issues, but I babysit another dog that eats Purina Beneful while here. My beagles would smell theirs and then the Beneful and want some. So I added a few kibbles to their food. Eventually, to make it simpler, I decided to switch my dogs to Beneful and all 3 would eat the same. Today I bought a bag and my husband fed the dogs this morning. As I added the bag to a closed container I noticed strands of white in the food (looks like skin peelings after a sunburn). I immediately called Purina who informed me that it is a GRAIN-BASED INFESTATION and that due to the heat and humidity this year they are having a lot of issues for this.

Also, prior to switching my dogs there were 2 times that the owner of the dog we babysit said they found maggots in the bags of Beneful. I know it is because it has moisture in it and if the bag is left open then flies will lay eggs. IT HAS TO BE STORED IN A SEALED CONTAINER. But the point is this -- IT IS NOT A GOOD FOOD FOR DOGS. I will never use it ever again and I will tell others not to either. Dogs can get deadly sick off of bad food. Throwing up for dogs and the runs (which these are the symptoms) can cause immediate dehydration which shuts down kidneys, puts them into seizures, etc. Not worth it. My wife would always buy Costco dog food or the high quality stuff from the feed store. She died 6 weeks ago and now I'm left to care for her dog. 2 year old healthy German Shepherd female. Money is tight right now with the funeral expenses so I was at Walmart and needed to get dog food and cat food. Two days later the dog died from seizures - violent ugly death that I managed to record because I didn't know what was happening. I wanted to show the vet. My mother just called me and told me to look up the Purina Beneful recall. I'm so angry right now I'm so pissed off that this was the only link I had to my wife and now the dog is dead at 2 years old? Wtf? How can I get away with selling poison? This dog was healthy, this dog had all his shots, this dog had 12 puppies at the first of the year and now this dog is dead. It doesn't make any sense. It was so random.

I have been feeding my 10 year old Yorkie this wet food for about 7 or 8 years. In the last month she has been randomly puking up within a half an hour after eating. She started shaking, hides behind furniture and won't eat. I switched her to Iams the other day and she was peppy again and never puked once. To rule out if it was a stomach bug or Beneful, I gave her two spoonfuls of wet Beneful this morning. Three pukes piles within a half an hour. I called Purina and told them what was going on. All of the food has the same lot number on the bottom 50971162 L2 JP61936. They offered me coupons for more Beneful! I declined and I'm getting a refund for the open containers. The guy told me if it keeps up to take her to the vet. It should also be noted that I feed her a small snack of the dry Beneful everyday, however, the puking and shaking happens after she eats the wet food.

I fed my dog Beneful for about 5 years not knowing that there were problems with the dog! Around mid-December in 2007, she became listless and suddenly wasn't able to make it outside to use the bathroom. Rosie was such a good dog and would never have an accident in the house unless she really couldn't help it. Everything happened so fast that I really didn't know what was happening. She died on Christmas Eve. This dog was part of my family and I loved her like one of my children. I can't believe I fed her something that killed her! Nothing will ever bring Rosie back to me but I don't want this to happen to anyone else. When I see someone in the grocery store with Beneful in their buggy I want to scream at them! Stop, you are killing your dog!!! I don't because I know this isn't the way to make people aware. Please, please, let's not let any more dogs die!

We had our Shepherd/Rottweiler mix for 8 1/2 years. We also purchased Beneful from Walmart for her. She died last week. She wasn't feeling well, vomiting, weak, not eating, urinating a lot. We took her to the vet thinking she'll get antibiotics and maybe an intravenous overnight. Well we were told nothing could be done, they could do exploratory surgery but it wasn't a guarantee they would find out what was wrong. If we took her home, they said she will probably die before the next day was over. We put her to sleep last week to keep her from suffering any further. It is very sad to see your dog die and nothing you can do. Now thinking that Beneful could have caused it makes me furious. I didn't like giving her table scraps because it wasn't good for her, but I'm sure my cooking had no poison in it. We thought we were feeding her good stuff and what a mistake that was. I wish I had known sooner because my girl would still be here.

Occasionally she throws up now and gets to acting funny. And she is just not herself. I have tried numerous things from bathing to meds and I can not seem to find out what is causing this, so I decided to look online to see if it is possible that it may be her food and I stumble upon this page, so I will continue to read and wanted to post, but as of tomorrow I will be taking her off of Beneful to see if her allergies stop.. Eventually and almost 10K later, we had to put her down. I did not know anything about this dog food at this time. Sometime later, we started to mix the Beneful with our dog Lacy's food. She too got sick but did not show it until the night she died. She also had diarrhea and throwing up and lost her sight in the end, just like Baby did. Some time after Lacy died, we learned about the dog food. I still have the bag, I am saving it in case there is a class action lawsuit and it can be tested. My vet thought that my dog got into anti-freeze which is what is in this dog food.

About a year or so back.... I had my dog on Beneful only for a few weeks. When I noticed my dog, though I only fed him a half cup, twice a day, started putting on a terrible amount of weight, was throwing up his dry food, more often than not.... and was feeling very sluggish and looked and acted unhealthy, not himself! SO I immediately took him off Beneful and put him on Purina Pedigree, and almost all of the symptoms disappeared, he was back to his usual active self, and started dropping the extra weight slowly. But in no time he was back to his usual trim self.

I just found Beneful to be a very sub-par product, and informed most people I know, NEVER to feed it to their dog or cat! However Purina Pedigree has been awesome and has remained his usual dry food of choice! I now supplement his dry food with Dinovite which has greatly improved his coat, energy and overall good health! I would NEVER recommend Beneful to anyone for any reason! However I would recommend Purina Pedigree as a dry food staple, supplemented with Dinovite, makes a winning combination!

We have been feeding Beneful dog food to our miniature dachshunds, Dudley & Gracie, since we got them as puppies & never had a problem until last year. Both were 9 yrs. old & Gracie, who is normally very healthy, started projectile vomiting & diarrhea during the night. The next afternoon, we took her to our local vet. After running tests, she could not tell us what was wrong with Gracie but said, "I have never seen liver enzymes as high as hers." She told us to transport Gracie to the animal emergency room immediately. The next morning, Gracie was placed into the animal hospital.

After a battery of tests, the specialists were still stumped as to what was causing her problems & exploratory surgery was discussed in detail to try to see what the problem was. They initially started her on medications. She received blood transfusions & an arsenal of medication. By the grace of God, Gracie's condition improved without surgery.

After a week, she was well enough to come home with 5 different medications, limited diet & several follow up appointments scheduled but no known determination of what had been wrong with her. During this whole mess, I remember my heart breaking when, as I kept our local vet updated on Gracie's status, she told me, "If this doesn't not turn out well, please know you've done everything you could possibly do to help her."

Gracie & her brother, Dudley, ARE our children (we have no children). This whole experience cost us $6000 just in medical bills, which THANKFULLY we still have our very active, sweet baby girl who has had no problems since. I am 100% convinced that we got a hold of a bag of tainted Beneful dog food. I cannot explain why Dudley did not get sick also; maybe we caught it before he became sick. I will NEVER use any brand of dog food that this company makes as long as I have dogs. I will risk feeding table scraps to them before I chance using this or any other food this company makes in the future.

As I write this, I realize how extremely lucky we are that it was caught early; that we had an army of wonderful vets & specialist on our team & above all else, that Gracie survived. I would LOVE to know how to become a part of this lawsuit. I would like to recoup the expense of the vet/hospital/medications/travel expenses of this mistake but if I do not, I would just like this company to pay (in spades) for the misery it has caused hundreds of pets & the heartbreak hundreds of pet parents have had to suffer from feeding this dog food that as our vet so eloquently put it... "BENEFUL IS CRAP DOG FOOD."

I got to thinking "yes the Beneful." I stopped it and his ear problems subsided, but I think it was too late. He developed breathing problems. First time he actually fell down a flight of stairs. I rushed him to the vets and discovered his heart was failing. Thanks to my vet I had him another year but it was a year of running to the vets, doing mouth to mouth daily if he had any excitement, crying in hysterics when it happened, grateful each time he came out of it until I had to make the right choice for him, to let him go. Changed everything about my life, changed me as a person. I lost what mattered to me most. Can I prove it was the dog food, no. Do I believe it was, yes. Just wish I had done my research before I fed this to my pup. He was gone way too soon, a healthy happy baby.

I first noticed my dog didn't seem right then he started throwing up. Well, not unusual, I told my son, "Hunter is not feeling well." So we both started to watch him. He started to lose balance, was walking like he was drunk, couldn't get up on the couch without trouble, and then when he tried to get on the bed one night he fell off. I told my son, "get him to the vet, he is not even eating right."

The vet did blood work and xrays. The diagnosis was his kidneys were failing, a perfectly healthy dog a week before. Jaundice, I think. Yellow eyes, blood in the urine, yellow gums. The vet pumped him with fluids, and antibiotics, sent him home with a bunch of antibiotics. Poor dog wouldn't eat a thing for at least 4 days.

As of right now, Hunter is not out of the woods. We did all the antibiotics, been trying to feed him just rice or potato, no fat, or no meat, no dog food.

I did cheat a bit. It was easier to give him his meds wrapped in a bit of cream cheese, and he would eat a bit of meat. I was hoping it would make him eat his rice and potato diet. Maybe it is working. The last couple days I have been able to get him to eat rice (okay, I Put a tiny bit of butter, and a tiny bit of salt in it) anything to make him eat...

I really think there may be something wrong with Beneful dog food. I did some google on this, everyone says pretty much the same thing. Pray for my dog, he is still alive, but not out of the woods. He is so loved by family and friends. Everyone that has met my dog thinks he is the best. It will be a memorial that will rock the community if he dies. Say a prayer for my dog. Too many people love him. I am throwing out all my Beneful food now.

I looked at some of the symptoms that other people wrote about their dogs having and he fits in these categories. All of the same things happening to him. I quickly changed his food to one that contains no beef, corn, artificial preservatives or animal by product meals. I am giving him different herbs that cleanse and heal your liver and I am hoping his liver will heal and symptoms will go away. My precious dog chigger died suddenly. He had a cough but seemed to be getting better then suddenly started having what looked like seizures. He would try to get up only to fall over again. It was one of the most traumatic things I've ever seen. Once this started he was dead within 2 hours. Now I have 2 other dogs and would have never thought it was the food until I noticed my 2 remaining dogs would not eat their food. For the first 2 days I thought well they are just sad and grieving as they were a little family (mom, dad and son), but then they would eat my bits of cheese I offered them and then I thought let me see if they will eat the cat food.

Well they did, so I decided to google Beneful dog food and found all these stories. It breaks my heart that the food I fed my babies may have killed my boy. I went right to the pet store and got a high quality grain-free dog food for my remaining 2 dogs and they are eating again. I hope and pray that it is not too late for them. I also hope and pray that perhaps by reading this, a pet's life can be saved and the owners will be spared the grief and the horror of having to watch your loved dog suffer this horrific death. A year ago I switched to Beneful Dog food. I had a 12 year old beagle and 7 year old mix. In December, my beagle started acting not himself. He would end up on all four legs on the kitchen floor and couldn't get up. He was still eating and drinking but you could tell something was wrong. I took him to the vet and they xrayed him and said he had cancer throughout his body. I took him home and spent a week with him then had to put him to sleep.

A week after my other dog Max (7 year old) began coughing like he had a hair ball in his throat. The cough progressed and became worse. He also stopped eating his Beneful. I took him to the vet and they xrayed him and said he had a large mass (cancer) in his lungs and it was pressing against his trachea. He only lasted a week, he stopped eating and I was at my wit's end by pushing pills down his throat and wondering what I would come home to every day. So I had to put him to sleep as well.

I have never experienced such trauma, tragedy and heartbreak so close. I still have the leashes hung up, pooper scooper still out back, food still in pantry, cookies still in cookie jar and basket of bones and toys still in the living room. I never want anyone to go through what I have. And if it is from the Beneful Food, which I strongly believe it is, we all need to get together and file a lawsuit.

P.S. My neighbor last night told me her dog died yesterday. Said he had Lyme disease from a tick. He was only 6. I asked her what she fed him and she said BENEFUL. Something needs to be done ASAP!

Purchased a large bag of Beneful Incredibites and it was covered with an oily substance and smelled terrible. Fortunately, I didn't feed my puppy any of this bag. After reading so many instances of illness and death of dogs after feeding Beneful products, I did a lot of research. The most honest review of this product was on the Dr. Mercola website. The vet for this site really pushes for a raw food diet or self-made diet - the latter being what I fed my 16-year old who developed a huge tumor in his spleen. We have since got a new puppy and started him out on what we thought was a healthy eating plan.

The Beneful dog food is definitely what he prefers, but I'm not feeding it to him again. The ingredients of "meat by-products" nearly made me, myself, never want to eat meat again. Not only for the very definition of what meat is actually used, but for how the meat is "rendered". It appears that dog food companies can and do use the following in dog foods: diseased animals, anything that isn't safe for human consumption - tumors, still born animals, family pets who have been euthanized - which would have the two lethal ingredients to put the pet down in the flesh and organs of the animal, road kill, expired meat from grocery stores including the styrofoam trays and plastic wrap in which the meat is sold.

Now, to the actual complaint. After contacting Wag.com (where the food was purchased) and also Purina (who made the food), I was offered a total refund from Wag.com - which was great and was sent several coupons for free dog food and/or treats by Purina. I already stopped the Incredibites and started the Beneful Beef Stew (which my dog just loves). Since he has been on the Beneful, he has developed allergies - requiring vet intervention, listlessness, diarrhea, and extreme fatigue. We used to walk first thing in the morning and he was all observant and strutting his stuff. Now on our walks, he walks for a little bit, then stops every couple of steps and looks up at me so that I have to pick him up and carry him. His breathing is also rapid and shallow.

When we get home, he is totally exhausted - sleeping for the rest of the day. He does still play (a little, he's only 3), but not to the degree a young dog should be - he should still have boundless energy. Nothing else in his environment has changed - no new laundry detergents, cleansers, etc. The common denominator here is Purina Beneful. Purchasing pet food that is healthy, shouldn't be this difficult. I guess I'll have to continue doing my due diligence and read every word on every label and supplement that with my own recipes for healthy eating.

I've stopped using ALL Purina products and have introduced Blue Buffalo to my dog, but after researching them, now I'm not sure that I should be feeding him that. We have another vet appointment schedule for next week. Hopefully, with further testing, we'll be able to determine what's wrong with him and he'll be able to regain his health and wellness. Although Nestle/Purina was generous by providing coupons for their products, there remains huge questions as to the safety of their products. Are there any "safe" pet foods available?!

Due to the fact that he didn't LOVE the new food and expense I went back to Beneful yesterday. Last night he vomited. There is something very wrong with this food. Now I will have to put him back on the expensive brand that he isn't crazy about because there is something in Beneful that is making my perfectly healthy dog, sick! We fed our dogs Beneful until I read about a news article about dogs dying and getting very ill. We have since stopped. I feel like it was a warning and we were lucky because we had dogs aging 3-4 years of age. Our dogs used to be losing hair, throwing up randomly for no reason, throwing up yellow fluid, especially after running, constant runny eyes, eating grass to throw it up again to clean their stomach, and experiencing rashes on their skin. We were concerned, but did not know that it had anything to do with the food they were eating.

I HIGHLY recommend to everyone - ANYTHING purchased at a box store/chain store/grocery store made in China... should not be given to your pet! It's like anything else. Do your homework! Ask around, go to the local pet boutique even if you don't buy anything. There are a lot of brands that I found: Fromm, Horizon- Pulsar, V-Dog, Halo, Merrick... that are better than box store bought. PLEASE, do your research!

Don't you think it would be better to pay a little extra per month for the right nutrition (food) to care for your fur-kid/family member than a big fat vet/ surgery bill coupled with heartache and sadness, and be at the mercy of your money hungry doctor/vet? CONSIDER THIS: THE VET IS THE SAME AS YOUR MEDICAL DOCTOR... THEY ARE NOT MAKING MONEY - UNLESS YOU ARE SICK!

We started feeding our mini dachshund of eleven years Beneful cause a friend brought it over to try and Chomper liked it. You see he was a picky eater and if he didn't like something he wouldn't eat it. But he seemed to like it. This was back in Sept 2014. Jan 2015 he started drinking lots of water and I mean lots. I was filling his dish 4 and 5 or more times a day but he wasn't peeing. He became lethargic, wouldn't eat, didn't want to play or anything. Called the vet. He thought that he might of hurt his back. Gave him a couple shots and some meds. The next day he was throwing up a frothy brown like fluid. He couldn't walk up and down two stairs to go potty outside which he tried so hard to do by himself up to when he had a seizure and died on Jan 15, 2015. Chomper was like our baby. I was feeding her soft dog food instead of her regular food which was Purina healthy weight. On Tuesday, my border Collie mix (Yoshi) died upon arrival at the veterinarian's office. He was 6 and in perfect health until Sunday afternoon. Our lab mix, (Jefferson) also 6 started bleeding Tuesday night and we took to a vet in Truckee, CA. He could not stop bleeding from his nose. The vet said it looked like some kind of poisoning and put him a on a vitamin K IV. He then had to be taken to Reno to an emergency vet hospital to get plasma and a blood transfusion. There are no explanations and I have racked my brain trying to figure out how two wonderful healthy dogs could go downhill so fast. I had a weird thought about what they possibly could have ingested. I clicked on their food as a possibility after searching our property for possible dead rodents or signs of anything odd. We do not have poison on our 20 acre property.

My husband brought home Beneful dog food last week. We weren't able to get their normal food and so he made a quick trip to a store. The dogs used to eat Beneful but we switched to a more natural brand and they had really liked that. This switch back to Beneful is the only thing I can think of. I still have the bag and the rest of the food. Yoshi stopped eating on Sunday morning and was dead by Tuesday afternoon. He had partial paralysis and while he refused to eat and was lethargic, he drank copious amounts of water. He shook from time to time and had no reaction in his rear leg when the vet checked. His gums were gray at the vet and he had a hard time breathing. Then he tried to take one last big breath and was gone.

We are hoping that Jefferson will continue to recover. He went back to the vet in Truckee for more vitamin K on Thursday and Friday and is home resting now. We are devastated. It seems odd that when I called Purina to inquire about their food that the first choice mentioned on their TelePrompt is "press 1 if you are calling for information in Beneful." Upon pressing 1 they launch into quality assurance. UGH! I am sick over losing my dog and our poor Jefferson has been through the wringer. Our vet bills are over 4,000 but at least he survived. How can you get dog food tested? I would be sickened over the thought of more dogs and their owners going through this. Both dogs are 6 years old and were in wonderful shape. Yoshi was so active and was the vibrant, happy kind of dog who would catch frisbees and was our loyal best friend.

I started feeding my two pit bulls a half a container or about 5oz of Beneful wet food about six months ago. At first things were fine then after three months my eldest started becoming lethargic and consuming huge amounts of water. He would pick at his food and started losing weight. My female pit was doing much better with no signs or symptoms of any kind until this January. She started to develop what I believed was a cyst on her dew claw so we took her to the vet. Almost immediately the vet diagnosed her with cancer. This was heartbreaking news. Now my male dog was hanging in there and had not developed any further symptoms nor had the original ones worsened.

A month ago things started to change and fast. While laying in bed I noticed what appeared to be a mass in his abdomen. Two weeks later he started to wheeze and had trouble breathing. We took him to the emergency vet where he was diagnosed with laryngeal paralysis. This was not determined to be life threatening and he was prescribed a course of treatment and released the next day. His condition worsened. This started on Sunday 3/29/15 and on 3/31/15 he stopped eating on his own with the wheezing never improving. We started to blend chicken and feed him via syringe. On Thursday 4/2/15 he stopped drinking water. It was a horrible night. He fought tooth and nail to get into a comfortable enough position to breathe and developed a gurgle.

As soon as the vet opened on Friday 4/3/15 we took him in. X-rays showed a mass in his abdomen which was pinching off his airway, his kidneys were failing, his red blood count was 15. He didn't make it to noon. As I said he was an elderly dog, 15 1/2 to be exact but prior to the start of eating Beneful he was healthy as was my other dog. Within six months of starting Beneful one dog was dead and another has a death sentence in cancer. I have no evidence to prove it was Beneful but only my gut intuition.

I have a 3 1/2 year old German Shepherd mix that I adopted when she was 2 years old from the local SPCA. My dog has always had amazing health. She is perfect and playful, tons of energy, the happiest dog. I recently switched her food to Beneful as she prefers soft food and does not often like to eat anything too

hard or crunchy. Beneful was soft and she seemed to love it.

My dog had been eating Beneful for about a month and I started to see some unusual changes. There was occasional vomiting of a yellow substance which I assumed was due to her getting into something that she shouldn't have. Then she started to appear much lazier and almost lethargic. Soon enough she started to leak urine while she would be laying down. It started out with just a little bit, she would be sleeping and once she got up there would be a little puddle of urine under her. This amount has gotten increasingly excessive and it's almost as if she has no control over when her bladder will release anymore.

Then came the seizures. My dog has always been in perfect health and about 4 weeks ago she had a grand mal seizure out of nowhere. I was terrified and took her to the vet immediately. The vet did blood work and said that her levels all looked relatively normal, nothing was too excessive. Then last week (3 weeks after the first seizure) she had another one. I assumed that with epilepsy being common in German Shepherds that she was developing epilepsy. After reading these reviews and hearing about so many dogs having the same health issues on this food, I know what the real cause was. Please do not feed your dog Beneful! I can't believe I let this go on for this long and am just hopeful that she has not been permanently damaged by this food.

In 2003 my family got our first Boxer. Her name was Bailey. A few months later I acquired my daughters Boxer Sadie Mae. Because I was feeding two dogs we decided to change over to Beneful Dog Food as Purina has always been a decent company. The dogs seemed to be healthy and happy dogs. In Dec of 2006 Sadie started having issues defecating. We went to the vet and found a mass strangling her bladder and intestines. It had grown from her kidneys. We lost Sadie on Dec 12, 2006. In 2007 we acquired another Boxer, Daisy Mae. From the beginning Daisy had problems with keeping the food down. I took her to the vet and the vet said she probably just had a sensitive stomach. I monitored her eating but still had issues with the food.

Mind you we were still feeding Beneful because we not only thought it was a good dog food but had acquired another dog, this time a Pit Bull named Munch. Daisy passed away April 23, 2011 from a mass that caused Kidney failure. What bad luck I seemed to have. Two dogs passing away from kidney issues. Dec 21, 2011 I lost Bailey Belle to kidney failure and a mass that was pushing her eye out of her head. My heart was broken. How could this be? We got another puppy, Lilly, in January of 2012. We were still feeding our dogs Beneful. My brother in law came home with his family from Japan. He brought his dog Macy. She was checked out thoroughly by vets in Japan as well as stateside. She began eating the big dog’s food, which was Beneful.

On June 27, 2014 Munch passed away from kidney failure. Sept 14, 2014 Macy passed away from her kidneys shutting down. Yesterday, April 7, 2014 my Lilly passed away from Kidney failure. The only thing beside me that these dogs had in common was the dog food. I sent an email to Purina and they called me today. They claim that Beneful is safe but offered to put in a claim to cover the vet bill on Lilly. If it is so safe, why are they offering to pay for the vet bill? I have 4 dogs, two are 13 years old, one is 7 years old and one is 3 years old. About a month after I started them on this I noticed one of my 13 year olds, Buffy, had started with a really bad cough. She had never been sick before but I had just brought home one of the other dogs that I rescued from animal control. The vet thought maybe she caught kennel cough from the other dog but the other three dogs were not coughing. They gave her a round of antibiotics which seemed to make it worse. She stayed outside and hid under bushes, was lethargic could barely open her eyes. Several times I didn't think she was going to make it through the night and I kept taking her to the vet but she wasn't getting any better.

Finally I took her to another vet with the same diagnosis, kennel cough. They tested her for heart failure, heart worms which I knew she didn't have, the only thing that would give her any relief was to keep her on prednisone. The whole time I'm feeding her this crap she had been on the prednisone for about 2 months and I was running low and was going to make an appointment to take her back in for more tests. Then I saw several articles on Facebook about how bad this food was and I still didn't really get it... I thought oh people always complain about something, my dogs are fine. Then I realized Buffy has been coughing since I switched her food to Beneful, one of my other dogs had been vomiting randomly, and the other two dogs have really bad skin rashes all over their body. No my dogs are not fine!

I still was skeptical but I switch them to a really good dog food and within two weeks Buffy was completely healed. She is finally back to her old self and playful again, absolutely no coughing whatsoever and my other dog has not been throwing up. The other two with the skin rashes it's a bit more complicated but I have them on medication. I will never buy this product again.

I thought this food is not even digesting. He doesn't get human food at all and has been eating Beneful for around two years. We never had a problem until recently. Every time he threw up he immediately acted fine. On Monday March 23rd, 2015, I fed him around 5am. Around 930pm he slid off the couch and was trying to run to me, his head was dropped and he was dragging his hind legs and couldn't move them at all.

He was shaking uncontrollably and his eyes were set and pupils were huge, completely covering any eye color. I ran to him and we both fell in the floor (he's 110lbs). He landed on my lap and he was trying to pass out. I actually thought he was having a stroke. I rubbed underneath his neck, kept making him respond, massaged him all over. Finally, I got him up on his feet. He vomited then drank a ton of water. The food he ate at 5am, still whole, also was thrown up. He appeared to recover.

The next morning we got a different brand of dog food. He is like a new dog now. No shaking, no vomiting, no longer sluggish and is way more energetic like he's suppose to be and it's only been a few days but a complete change. I'm hoping that there is no permanent damage at this point. We have several empty bags because we reuse the bags for trash and yard waste. I wonder if the company has changed the food recently or maybe the bags it is stored in? The important thing here is collecting information, investigating to find out what the problem is and fixing it so no one else loses their fur babies. I hope this helps.

My 3 year old, healthy German Shepherd died last night. She had been fed Purina dog food. I was staying away from Beneful, thinking I was doing right. She suddenly began drinking a lot of water and vomiting everything she ate. That progressed to even water then blood with a very horrid smell. Vet saw her after she started vomiting food and refused to eat. He suspected a twisted bowel with only an X-ray and no further testing. Gave injections for inflammation and sent her home with amoxicillin and reglan. I was unable to get any of the pills into her and she began vomiting water.

She passed away 14 hours after being sent home. Feel I should have insisted on further testing of her and/or taken her to another vet. She was so weak within hours of leaving the vets that I am quite certain she would not have survived even with any further treatment. This developed within 3 days total. Had it not set in on the weekend, she would have been to a vet sooner. Upon being asked what I fed her by others after her passing I looked up symptoms of bad dog food and it appears she matched them pretty precisely.

This is a very sad but true story about BENEFUL DOG FOOD. After I'm done with the story I will add some videos and pictures so you can watch your babies if they start acting like this. PetePeters our largest yorkie had gotten to where she wanted to eat all the time probably because of the cold weather and we were visiting **, **'s brother a lot and was gone more. We saw a small bag of Beneful Healthy Weight at Homeland for $3 around the first of the year so we bought it and Pete loved it so when she finished it we bought a large bag.

Right after this we noticed all the dogs had been getting sick a lot taking turns throwing up and again we thought since we were gone a lot visiting **'s brother they were nervous so we let that go too. Trucker our smallest Yorkie only liked one piece of food from the lot and barely eat any but he started having these small seizures where he would act lethargic and walk around in circles slowly having a hard time catching his breath and act like he was drunk. We started taking him with us to see ** and left him in the car while we visited thinking again momma's boy was confused with me leaving him.

On Wednesday Feb. 4th PetePeters was just out of it. Lethargic and walked around like she was drunk all day. Thurs. Feb. 5th she didn't seem any better so we took her to the vet where we were told her red blood count was down to 12 and they don't live if it gets down to 6 and she needed a blood transfusion so we had this done and left her overnight so they could give her blood thinners and steroids and other things. We picked her up Fri. Feb. 6 and she seemed so much better was walking normally drinking and going to the bathroom but not eating which was ok and she kept improving so Sat. Feb 7 ** was told to buy her baby food chicken and get her to eat and he did and she eat.

Late Sat. eve she was acting strange again. Shaking and acting nervous. I went to take my shower and John came in and said, "I'm taking Pete to the garage, she's dying and the others just told her goodbye!" WHAT?? I hurried to get out of the shower and dried and put my hair in the towel and was getting dressed when he comes back in and says, "She's gone!" She died from a blood clot in her lungs, only took about an hour so we wouldn't have made it to the vet anyway. Two vets had run blood tests on her and thought it to be like lyme disease or another tick bite illness which there are numerous ones.

After she passed a few days later Sassy had a grand mal seizure and fell off the bed and was paralyzed all but her head. ** took her to the vet and xrays were taken but nothing, no broken bones, no slipped disk, nothing. So looking at her (which 5 vets looked at her) they thought her to have COONHOUND PARALYSIS so she was treated with steroids and other things and in two weeks she has started walking on her own but looks drunk. Again they took lots of blood and run lots of tests. My good friend ** asked me what kind of food they were on and I told her and she informed me they were having trouble with BENEFUL and that could be my problem. Well I honestly didn't think it was but I got rid of it just in case and ** has not had another seizure.

Sassy is getting better and even Buffy along with the rest have all stopped vomiting. Not all dogs have the same reaction to BENEFUL and you can look it up if you have any questions. There's a whole thing about dogs and BENEFUL you can google. Some even throw up blood or have a bloody stool. But we were informed neither dog they took blood from PetePeters or Sassy showed any disease from a tick or anything else and maybe it was poison. We never put out poison and none of our neighbors do either because of the pets and other critters in the woods. If this post saves one of your babies from torture or death I glad. Nothing will bring PetePeters back and she was our healthiest youngest yorkie. And I feel guilty for doing what I thought would help Pete and killing her instead.

He was very listless, only getting up to drink, vomit or go outside. I was very concerned, but didn't think it could be the food until my daughter in law told me about a warning her mother had heard on TV about Beneful.

I called the vet right away and they put him on an antibiotic for a viral bacteria for a week and thank God he is doing fine now. My Chlöe is a 2-1/2 year old, 10 lb Miniature Dachshund. She had her first violent epileptic fit when she was a year old. Her second was at age 2. Then last month she had another and again 2 weeks ago and then again the other day. These are ones that I know of. Who knows if she had any while left alone while I was out. I was so afraid for her and terrified. I spoke soothingly to her as I kept her body snug to me and held her head to keep it from shaking violently. I checked the clock and it lasted 3 1/2 long minutes. After she came out of it and seemed okay, I Googled "Epilepsy in Miniature Dachshunds" and clicked on a page.

The first comment I read shocked me. It mentioned that Beneful dog food may be the cause of seizures/epilepsy and death in dogs. Other comments that followed told of similar horror stories concerning their pets after eating Beneful. I have been feeding my Chlöe Beneful for Puppies since she was 2 months old and then Beneful for Small Dogs. My friend bought Beneful for her Miniature Dachshund, Buddy and he threw up a lot after eating it and she stopped giving him the food.

After reading the comments of the (possible) dangers and health risks linked to Beneful, I dumped all the Beneful dog food from Chlöe's bowl and the few kibbles that were left in the bag into the garbage and got my son and daughter-in-law to buy a different brand of food. They got a top of the line Holistic dog food for small breeds. I am extremely upset and do not believe her epileptic seizures and eating Beneful are just a coincidence. It was horrifying to watch my tiny dog go through this. Her eyes were frozen and wide with fear. Her legs curled up and her body trembled. Her head shook so violently and kept on shaking even after she snapped out of the seizure. I was crying the whole time and begging her to come back to me.

Updated on April 14, 2015: I am happy to report that since taking my little Chloe off of Beneful dog food she hasn't had any more seizures in 3-1/2 weeks where as when she was last eating Beneful her seizures were 1 week apart. Chloe has a better appetite now that she is on a holistic dog food called ACTR1UM. She has gained some weight and I've also noticed that she is growing some fur on her underside where before she totally had none from under her chin all the way to her bum cheeks. Also, she no longer gets this smelly black gunk in her ears. I have not taken Chle to see the vet yet. I had to take the chance to see if the seizures would stop after taking her off the Beneful. I would not know for sure if it was indeed the Beneful causing the seizures if she were to be given (unnecessary) drugs to stop them. It saddens me tremendously to read of all the unfortunate stories of all these ill or deceased beloved pets. My heart and strength goes out to each and every one of you.

I keep my Chloe even closer to me now than before and smother her with even more kisses and hugs. I am praying that the seizures are a thing of the past and will never come back. I will keep you posted on Chloe. March 20th, 2015 was when her last seizure occurred and also the last day she ate Beneful dog food.

I posted the following on my wall on Facebook on March 9, a week after I learned about the concerns about Beneful. KIKI died from kidney failure on March 15 due to the toxins that are in Beneful dry DOG food. Had I known about the concerns of Beneful a month earlier, KIKI would still be alive. I am dedicated to getting this poison off the shelves of all stores as fast as possible so others don't have to die or go thru this terrible pain.

"PLEASE PRAY FOR AND SEND POSITIVE ENERGY TO KIKI. SHE IS SICK, CAN'T STAND, WON'T EAT AND WAS POISONED. I have to ask everyone to pray for and send positive energy to Kiki again as she is as sick as she has ever been. About 6 months ago I was at Wal-Mart and I bought a large bag of BENEFUL which was not our normal food. But I thought it was good food and bought a big bag cause we were going on a long trip. (Didn't go.) For the last 6 months I been feeding Kiki the Beneful and canned Pedigree food. Usually she would just eat the canned food but occasionally she would eat the dry Beneful, and I believe that's why she started getting so sick and why she would have trouble walking, throwing up, off and on during these last 6 months.

A couple weeks ago I asked for prayers and positive energy for Kiki and she got better fast. I had been feeding her people food to get her to eat but when she got better I felt too much people food - so I got some tuna fish and put the juice all over the kibbles and she ate it. The next day she was throwing up and now she can't walk or eat or drink. She dry heaved most of last night. PLEASE DO NOT FEED YOUR PET BENEFUL AND PLEASE SEND KIKI YOUR PRAYERS AND POSITIVE ENERGY. PRAYER AND POSITIVE ENERGY REALLY WORKS AND SHE NEEDS IT SO PLEASE TAKE A MINUTE FOR HER. When she gets thru this, she can look forward to not getting re poisoned again. Thank You."

She didn't make it and I have cried for a week. Now I am angry and I am doing something about it. I have started a group on Facebook called Beneful Off Store Shelves now. We are an organized group of victims calling on stores informing them of the problem and asking them to remove it from their stores. We are logging these contacts and responses on a public web site for accountability. Check it out if you want to get involved. If you have a sick pet you can find help on Facebook in the group Is BENEFUL by PURINA KILLING or SICKENING dogs. They have detox remedies and other advice that can help save your dog. PURINA is evil to the core for knowing about this problem and continuing sales.

Beginning in January 2015 my 6 year old chihuahua miniature pinscher mix, who was up-to-date on all of her immunizations and very well cared for, fell ill. She was wobbling and dizzy and had started throwing up a dark brown fluid mixed with mucous and dog food. And let me clarify, PURINA BENEFUL dog food was what we were feeding her; and that is all we have ever fed her the entire time we've owned her which was from a puppy. I thought with the cold weather that maybe she got a virus like everyone else (although I'm well aware she couldn't have caught a dog flu/virus from humans) and that it would pass. After a few days of the vomiting, I called our 10+ years trusted veterinarian and described to the on-call veterinarian all of her symptoms and he recommended to give her Pepto bismol and a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice and to see if there was any changes. I did this for over a week and Bella's health improved.

I then thought that her doggy virus had passed and put her back on the Purina BENEFUL dog food and her symptoms returned. She also at that time became very lethargic - hardly would move not even when somebody ring the doorbell which was her favorite past time, barking at any noises she heard; always protecting the house. Not only was she lethargic, she also was drinking a lot but not urinating very often and her stools were very hard but had blood in them. We then took her to the veterinarian clinic and they ran several blood tests and a stool sample and were not able to come up with any explanation as to why she had these symptoms. All they could tell us is that if they had to guess there was some kind of internal bleeding hence the vomiting of blood and blood in her stool & because she had become severely anemic during this time. They gave us several medications to administer to her in hopes of improving her health.

We also had purchased a gluten-free dye-free dog food for her which she refused. We then started her back on the boiled chicken and rice which she also refused. And not knowing that there were such harmful effects and documented deaths from Purina BENEFUL dog products, we allowed her the BENEFUL again so we could get her to eat something, anything!! She was eating some, not much at this point, because her health had declined in this 1 months period of time so much that she could hardly move, was very dizzy when she walked; staggering almost every step, still vomiting blood (dark brown/mucous mix), also vomiting a white frothy like substance. The veterinarian recommended that we administer the medications for 3 to 5 days and if her symptoms did not improve to bring her back in for further cultures & testing to see if a surgery was necessary.

Sadly, on February 7, 2015, three days after her veterinary visit in which they prescribed the medications, Bella passed away in bed with us. My 4 and 9 year old were devastated, as were my spouse and I. She had no medical issues, was perfectly healthy but fell ill in January and aside from the first time we tried the bland diet under the recommendation of the veterinary clinic, we watched her health decline at a heartbreaking rate until she passed away. The second time we tried the same bland diet and then the gluten-free dye-free dog food (not Purina of any kind) her health had declined and the internal bleeding had increased so much that she wasn't eating food at all. I strongly believe that Purina BENEFUL dog food killed my dog and I WANT THIS TO BE SHARED AS MANY TIMES AS WE CAN TO SPREAD THE WORD SO NO OTHER DOG DIES AND NO OTHER FAMILIES SUFFER!!

We have fed her wet food as a treat made by Alpo and never had this problem. Later that night, she started having strong foul odor bowel movements and was lethargic. She had bad diarrhea on Wed, Thur, Fri. This morning 3-21-15, she is having black diarrhea and vomiting blood and not eating or drinking. Once we seen the blood in her vomit along with white foam, we immediately took her to the emergency vet. Conducted studies, and vet determined she has a large amount of blood. Our vet feels she will be ok and can get her lined out.

Lots of money later, 2 shots, 3 medications later, we are home and she still won't eat or drink, had to shove her medicine down her throat with a treat and she still spit both out. We think it was caused from some wet Beneful food we fed her as a treat, not thinking about all the recalls that have been posted online which have been related to GI issues and internal bleeding or even death. I cannot believe they still have it on the shelf but there's no way to 100% prove that was the cause. I am very upset with this company and I strongly feel the food was the reason.

We had an 8 year old black lab named "Isis" (after the Egyptian goddess). She had been eating Beneful for most of her adult life. She never did seem like she felt 100%. I thought we were just being over critical because we loved her so much. She was more like a person than a dog. Everyone used to say she was "an angel in a doggy suit." She was an amazing dog and a wonderful friend. One day, out of nowhere, she started chugging water, like 3 times as much as normal. Then after a couple days of that, she quit drinking and eating anything at all. So we took her to the vet to see what was wrong, and found out her kidneys were failing.

This was like getting shot through the heart. I couldn't believe what we were hearing. We tried so hard to help her. We had to give her water in the back with an IV, they tried a bunch of different things. Towards the end she looked like she was really suffering, but trying so hard not to show it so she wouldn't upset us. She was full of love and just wanted her family to be happy. We just couldn't stand to see her suffer like that, it all happened so fast, we weren't mentally prepared for anything like this, it was like a nightmare.

On the evening of October 21st at 9:02 pm, while I was holding her little black paw in my hand, they gave her 2 injections to put her down. According to the vet, it was a high concentration of Propylene Glycol (the same thing that's in anti-freeze) that made her kidneys quit. Propylene Glycol is used for a kind of binder and to preserve the moisture content in Beneful pet foods. DO NOT FEED THIS TO YOUR ANIMALS!! I recently heard about Beneful Dry Dog Food complaints and dog deaths, so after researching symptoms, especially those expressed by other dog owners/consumers, I realized that three of my best demo dogs died the same way as many others. A suitable demo dog takes many years to train and title. It is even a longer job when they are rescues like mine were. Anyway, I began feeding Beneful many years ago after one of my students gave my dogs a few bites of it out of a baggie/dry dog food used for treats in class and since my dogs liked it, they remained on it.

To make a long story short; vomiting yellow bile, not cleaning up their ration, excessive amounts of waste/stools was nothing compared to the excessive thirst. Please pay close attention to this next part; excessive thirst means consuming over half of a five-gallon bucket per day. For an American Staffordshire Terrier and a Brittany Spaniel at rest, with plenty of shade and cool temperatures drinking that much water each in a day is unheard of, plus the urine leaked out of these two dogs continually. Both had the same exact symptoms, both were years apart in age.

The third dog, a Chihuahua (another demo dog, titled) under five pounds eating Beneful had the same symptoms as the other two but with grand mal seizures. The seizures ended her life. My son's rat terrier was fed Beneful and each time he ate it, he got sick. For many days there was puking, runs, refusing to eat and extreem weight loss. To this day, if you put a bowl of Beneful in front of my son's dog, he will not eat it. I have had dogs my entire life and won't be feeding that brand of dog food in the future to any dog. Even if no one can prove Beneful is harming/killing dogs, it remains the number one suspect in my mind and as long as it does, I will not feed it to any dog, period.

In April 2014, he got very sick, black bloody vomiting and diarrhea, and then he was peeing blood which meant his kidneys were failing. We had to put him down; he couldn't eat anymore and was too sick.

It kills me to think we gave him this food that may have killed him. I am floored how much these horror stories add up to our loss of our Basset Hound Jubilee, and illness of our other 2 dogs. I had been feeding Beneful to our dogs since we got our rescue back in July of last year. The 2 bassets became lethargic, and had bouts of super loose stool. At first we chalked it up to their age, as they were both seniors. But off and on they would take turns getting sick. Then our female Jubi, started urinating sticky sugary urine, and we knew it wasn't her age. Within a week we had to put her down. Her blood sugars were off the charts, her kidneys and liver were almost shut down. And there was no way we could fix it. She was lethargic and slept all day, and couldn't even stand on her back legs to get outside. She lost tons of weight... it was horrible.

Our male basset started showing the same signs, and our puppy we adopted as well. Then the news broke on the Beneful about 2 weeks after she passed. I was so mad, I threw all that crap out, as I was the one that switched to this poison and killed my dog. My senior basset is going regularly. No more bouts of pancreatitis, and he's even walking 2 times a day with the puppy!!!! The puppy is still having bathroom issues occasionally, and I just pray he will recover fully from whatever damage this food gave him internally! We switched to Nutrisource which has high marks. I do not know how Purina can get away with this! Jubi is on a memorial shelf in a pretty wooden urn. $1000.00 later, and there just wasn't anything we could do for her.... I can't believe Beneful dog food is still in the stores being allowed to make thousands of dogs ill and killing them.

My 11 year old Aussie/Hound mix got sick a week ago. She started drinking a lot of water and did not get up unless it was to potty. I took her to the vet and he said her liver was failing. She had a heart condition and a temperature. Basically, all her internal organs were shutting down. I had to put her down. All I fed her was Beneful dog food.

We bought purina beneful original two weeks ago not knowing it was making dogs sick. Yesterday my lab who is two years old and healthy never having any problem started not eating and throwing up. A client of mine told me about the problems with this food. So I looked up other people's reviews and all their dogs have had the exact same issues as mine. I just hope we caught it in time!! Please add us to the list. I think the more people to come forward about this garbage dog food the more likely it will be pulled from the shelves so that no more animals are poisoned!

Yes I was feeding my dog Beneful side August. He started in October having peeing accidents in my home then we started seeing blood in urine. Took him to vet and blood work and urine was tested. Urine came back with some type of cells in that are a cancer type cell. We had to put him down today. We are so upset. I blame myself because I never knew they were saying this about the food. He was so sick. Affected his bones and all. I tried to raise his head to kiss him goodbye and he cried out in pain... I would like the Purina people to eat this food for four months and let's what their overall health is. My husband has been unemployed for four years stuck working crappy jobs so we didn't have the money to run all kinds of tests. I feel so bad.

I had a great female pit bull in the prime of her life until she started to gag and vomit about an hour after being fed Beneful dog food. Or she would have a watery stool. I assumed she had eaten something else besides her dog food to make her sick like scraps the folks next door throw out on occasions. She slowly declined in health until I found her dead on the back porch in December. I buried her myself. I did not know anything about the class action lawsuit until I seen a report on my local news March 16, 2015.

With each comment I read on this page, I became angry and felt guilty that I could not save my friend from the ignorance that this company has portrayed. Every one of these symptoms that consumers are reporting, happened to my beautiful Jack Russell Terrier, Maxwell. I had always fed him Kibbles 'n Bits but it wasn't until I changed his food to Beneful that I noticed he was always becoming fatigued and sleeping. It happened so fast that I can't even remember what symptoms came first, but I know it started with a sudden seizure as he slept in my room one night. He had uncontrollable diarrhea, urine, and vomiting, whitening of gums and paws, and he refused to eat and drink water no matter what ways I attempted to feed him. As a result, he lost tremendous weight to the point that I could see his cheek bones. It broke my heart to see him that way.

After the first 3 days of the symptoms, I took him to the vet where I was informed that his white blood cells were extremely high and red blood cells were very low. An x-ray also revealed that he had a sudden huge mass by his liver. He was given medicine, his levels evened out a bit, but his symptoms stayed. The day before he was to be put to sleep, I sat on my couch holding him like I used to when he was a puppy so many years ago. My dog then had a seizure, and his mass ruptured. I carried him in my backyard, and layed beside him as he took his last breath. It was a beautiful day outside for him to pass, but the pain and helplessness I felt, I would never wish upon anybody. If anyone can help me find a way to take part in this lawsuit to have justice for my dog, please email me.

My six pound Yorkie became lethargic over a week ago. $1500 in vet fees later we've come to the conclusion it was the Beneful. She was shaking, unable to jump or walk long distances, not going to the bathroom, not her normal self at all. I can't believe they're still allowed to sell this! Shame on Purina - she was on anti nausea medication for a week and is now switched over to a real diet so I know exactly what she's eating.

I have a pure breed dachshund. He was getting a little chunky so I decided to buy him Beneful because the way it was advertised lead me to believe it was a healthier alternative. The first few months we noticed he became very bloated. Well we thought it was him eating too fast so we got him a special bowl to slow him down. Towards the 3-4months we noticed hair loss but we thought it was because of his old age and our vet didn't seem too concern about it either.

Now we noticed him still being bloated yet seems to have a lot of weight and is always too tired to go anywhere. He seemed depressed so we took him to another vet. He insisted we had blood work and an ultrasound done which we did. Found out he has a tumor on his liver. Ever since we started his "diet" with Beneful his life deteriorated. The tumor is incurable and I might have to put my beloved dog down. I had him since I was 9 years old and now I'm 19. This is truly like losing a brother.

My daughter moved and took her dog with her. We had been feeding Arrow Blue Buffalo-Fish/Potato. Arrow was 8 years old when they moved. My daughter is on a very tight budget since her job only lets her work 29 hours/week. So she switched to Beneful around December 2014. Just now, March 14th, 2015, we took Arrow to the vet because she had developed a growing tumor on her face right under her ear and right past her mouth. The tumor will be removed on March 18th and we will find out if it is benign or not. Needless to say we are switching back to Blue, but I pray that it is not a Grade III, Stage IV Mast Cell Tumor! It is growing fast!

Who is to say if the dog food was responsible, however it seems to be a very interesting coincidence! Sure wish I would have kept the receipt but we purchased the bag of Beneful at PetSmart in Houston, Texas off of Highway 6 and 529. I can submit a copy of the vet bill on Wednesday if needed. The vet is Clay Road Animal Hospital on Clay Road off of Hwy 6 North in Houston, Texas.

Over the last couple of years, I had been feeding our 2 dogs Beneful Dog food (wet & dry food). Then came Nov 2014, 1 of our dogs began showing signs of throwing up & coughing a lot. Shortly, soon after, our other dog began showing the same signs as the first dog. Long story short, they both began showing signs of being really sick. Our Vet was unsure what was making them feel this poor & to switch them over to grain free diet. We tried that, they were both getting more sicker! Come January 2015 (9 days apart) we had to put both of our dogs down!!!! Had I looked more closely into Beneful dog food, I FIRMLY believe our dogs would be alive today! RIP Tucker & Zach.

I started using this dog food about a year ago steadily for my corgi as a daily diet. I used the "healthy fiesta" kind. My dog started randomly having seizures and started to age quite rapidly. He is 11 years old and has had no health problems in the past. I recently switched him off Beneful to a good food recommended by his vet. Beneful is a horrible brand that does not care about anyone's pets. Please never feed your animals that filth.

My little dog, Thumbalina had been on Beneful Healthy Weight for about 4 years. She had repeated bouts of pancreatitis and digestive issues during the past 4 years also but I never realized the two were connected. Last year I noticed that something was wrong, she seemed sluggish and didn't want to play hardly at all. I took her to the vet and they didn't know why she wasn't spunky anymore. Then she started drinking huge amounts of water and having bouts of vomiting so back to the vet we went. This time they did blood work and her labs were abnormal-high calcium, high white count, high glucose level and her liver function levels were three times higher than they should of been.

We were at the vet usually twice a month and had constant lab work and x-rays done. Her abdomen was distended, her liver enlarged, she had a blockage in her bowels. Blood in her urine, peeing in the house when she had never done this in 11 years and even loss control of her bladder once when I was holding her. She started developing bumps on her skin and a cyst-like place at the tip of her vulva that could never be diagnosed because the vet didn't know what it was. I was back and forth to the vet because my little girl wasn't acting like my happy, energetic little girl anymore. All these abnormalities and no explanations.

Then on November 26, 2014 we were told she had a massive liver tumor that was inoperable and untreatable. We were devastated. That night she had her first seizure and there were many more before she died on 12/31/2014. She didn't die of natural causes, she didn't die on her own - we had to make that heart-wrenching decision and she didn't die peacefully. She suffered until the afternoon she died. She would of been 12 years old March 24th and she should of had the chance to celebrate that birthday. I know some people feed their dogs Beneful and their dogs are healthy - thank goodness for that. But my little Thumbalina ate Beneful and she died.

Toward the end she would only eat certain pieces of her food and eventually she wouldn't touch it. She was trying to tell us it was making her sick and we didn't realize this! We changed her dog food the last week and a half and she actually perked up a little. But the damage was done and it was too late to save her. I can't save her but maybe if someone reads this it will save their dog. She was a member of our family, she was my baby girl and my heart is forever broken. The photo below is her last Christmas with us.

My dog was old when he passed on, 13. A Boxer/Pit-bull/Shar-Pei mix named Rellik. Beautiful boy, beautiful soul. Best buddy ever. He came into my life by accident when a friend of mine's child rescued a momma dog with a litter of puppies that were about to be drowned by a 'person' who did not want them. I had no idea this little guy, that could fit under my couch, would turn into a 65 lb., handsome, naturally well mannered, best friend in the world.

He saw me through college, 3 babies, 2 doomed relationships and countless moves. He was my constant, my rock, my friend. When he turned 11 he experienced a neurological disorder that left his back-end paralyzed. I immediately took him to the vet and was told he might or might not come out if it with time. I faithfully carried his back-end whenever he had to go out and encouraged him to move around when he could, within a year he could walk with only a slight drag of one of his back feet.

When he was 12 I had experienced financial difficulties like never before and could not afford food for him. I was told about our local humane society that gives away donated bags of dog and cat food to the general public. I was so grateful (and still am) for their help. They gave me two 20 lb. bags of Beneful Dog Food.... Right after eating the food all of the hair fell off of his tail and his skin developed a slime in the fold of his neck.. I took him to the vet who thought it was because he was part Shar-Pei (who have skin problems in the folds of their skin if they are not taken care of properly) and his age, he prescribed antibiotics and the skin cleared but the hair on his tail never regrew. I soon recovered from financial disaster and returned to our regular dog food.

Within 4 months later -- I looked my dog one day and his skin was 'yucky', his ears were weeping, and his eyes had clouded over. I blamed his old age and my not paying attention (single, 3 kids) for him looking sick. I faithfully cleaned eyes and ears and gave 'sponge baths' daily. Within a week all of his symptoms were worse and his skin started to stink and secrete a slime, he had gone blind and both ears were fully infected. I called the vet but could not afford the weekend rates so had to wait until Monday morning to get him in. In those 2 days he declined rapidly, but he still had plenty of heart, he had not given up despite his failing body.

The moment I walked into the vet's office (it was a new vet for us) everyone in the office looked at us with horror and got us into a room immediately. After a few questions from the vet I soon realized they thought my dog had been living outside and neglected. It was obvious my best friend was going to Heaven that day, what I was not prepared for was feeling that it was because I had neglected his basic care. (He lived indoors and slept in my bed his whole life.) I was so in shock about the way the doctor and nurse made me feel I was compelled to bring them the last photo of Rellik, just 3 months prior to that day. He was old, he was loved, he was the best boy ever. My brain began struggling with what I knew his care to be and the way the doctor and nurse reacted like it was a long time neglect that had been the cause of Rellik's health.

It did not make sense to me, and at his age there was no immediate cause for the vet to consider anything but neglect on my part. It left me humiliated and heart broken. I started to believe maybe I had not done what I could have or should have for him. I felt guilty, bad, and that I had failed a very good friend in the worst of ways. It was not until I came across the "bad Beneful' information that I began to think about what had happened to Rellik again. I wholeheartedly (and am a bit grateful for it - as weird as that sounds) believe that the 2 bags of Beneful that we were given caused his liver to fail (and maybe other organs.) Since he had been healthy and only had the 2 bags of Beneful..... and had had heart..... his body did not shut down right away but did a slow demise with a 'crash at the end.'

I know he was old and close to Heaven but, I think he would have made it to 15.... and not have passed away looking like no one cared about him, if there were not some underlying reason for it. The vet was nice but it was obvious what they suspected by their questions (maybe it was a good thing our old vet was just 1 town away and could be contacted by the new vet) and I have never felt at peace with my friend's passing because of this. I do feel a little better having a potential answer about what had really happened to him. Not enough to heal the wound of losing him in such a way.

I have 4 Kerry Blue Terriers. I been using Beneful for sometime now and my dogs periodically experience some vomiting but I took it as they having a bug. The vomiting would stop and also had periodic bouts with diarrhea and again I would treat it with some meds and they would be fine. Recently one of my healthiest babies began to get real sick. This happened quickly. She stopped eating and began to throw up profusely. I took her to a Vet for emergency work and they found that she had Pancreatitis, Liver Failure, and Kidney damage. She died within hours of the Vet visit.

Now I have another baby who is refusing food today and has the exact same symptoms as the baby that died. She has bloody diarrhea. I am no longer using that POISON BENEFUL but the damage is done. One of my males when I was giving them Beneful would sometimes take forever to eat or start eating his food. He would sniff it and walk away and then would come back and do the same. With their keen sense of smell I am sure he was smelling the poison that the Federal Government is allowing Purina to use to kill our dogs. I still can't believe that they allow this food in grocery stores.
