My dog began having seizures late April. I’m not sure when I started giving them the little Incredibles canned wet food but one of my dog starting having seizures. I stooped the food for three weeks... Gave him a can and it wasn’t 4 hours later he had a massive seizure. I’m going to have his blood work done and talk to the vet tomorrow but I know it’s this food. Shame on Purina and shame on whoever is in charge of keeping stuff like this off the shelves. Enough complaints have been made yet they continue to murder and hurt our pets. It’s unbelievable.

We fed our beautiful Goldendoodle Beneful. We came home one evening and she was seizing on our kitchen floor. We took her immediately to the emergency vet. Over the next 36 hours, every major system in her body failed. She died about 40 hours after her first seizure. We had an autopsy performed. The only thing they found, after her vomiting consistently, was her food: Beneful. She was just five.

I bought a very tiny Chihuahua puppy a few days ago, I started feeding her and my other 2 young Pugs the Beneful Brand of Puppy Kibble. Now all of them are throwing up, and when not vomiting have dry heaves.. Their breath smells like vinegar when no vinegar has been consumed and now they are developing diarrhea with an excess amount of mucus. If my fur kids pass away or get any sicker I am going to sue the company.. I threw the rest of the bag of food in the trash and started them on another brand of puppy food. Please don't feed Beneful to any of your fur kids if you want to enjoy their company for the years to come.

I have a almost 2 year old American Bulldog who now has bloody diarrhea after eating this crap. He ran out of his food and as a kid I remember feeding this to my dogs having no issues but now it’s nothing more than a issue!! He doesn’t even have much stool when he goes. It’s mostly just blood and this started happening the day after he ate this!! I just wanted this for a quick fix for my pup for a few days till I was able to go to the market and get his good food. But this dog food might actually cost my dog his life!! I’ve been having to wake up with him multiple times a night to let him out! Just wow. I can’t believe I let my dog eat this crap. Will NEVER make that mistake again!

I have a 5 year old black lab mix that was a rescue. When I got her she was nothing but skin and bones. I was told by the rescue to keep her on this special yet very expensive brand of dog food till she filled out. On one of her check ups the Vet said that she was 5 lbs over her target weight and to get her on a Healthy Weight type of food.
While I was at Walmart I found the Beneful brand with the healthy weight formula. A week went by and my dog started sleeping all the time, didn't want to go on walks or play anymore. Her stool was runny, the smell was horrible, and one day I woke up to bloody diarrhea and bile vomit all over my kitchen. She couldn't swallow and was constantly drooling.
I called into work and rushed her to the Vet. The Vet did x-rays to see if she swallowed anything. Those came back clean. She was given an IV, anti diarrhea meds, and anti nausea meds. The Vet also sold me some canned dog food that helps with tears in the intestines. After a week of the Vet's food she was back to her old self and was doing great. Not knowing what made her sick in the first place I started feeding her the Beneful again and within 3 days we were back in the Vet's office. After over $1500 worth of tests, meds, and Vet visits we figured out what was making her sick. It was the 50lb bag of Beneful Healthy Weight dog food. Since then I have put her on another brand of dry food and she is doing great. Don't buy this food!

I thought since my dog is getting older (3 years old) I should change his kibbles and bits diet to a more holistic diet. Beneful has great advertising that their foods are made from real meats. I know my dog loves fish, so I got him the salmon dry food. After 1 day he had green oddly colored poop that smelled really bad and different. Then I thought well it’s the change in his diet. Today would be day 4 of changing his dog food.
This morning I woke up to him gagging up a frothy bile looking vomit. I guided him outside where he left a pile of dog food. I ran to the bathroom myself, so I’m uncertain which end the dog food came out of my dog. What I know is that he has no desire to eat that food all of the sudden. I’m going to try fresh chicken and rice and pray that he poops enough to rid his little body of the toxins that are obviously making him sick. I couldn’t understand what is wrong with him. So I decided since the only thing that’s changed in his routine was his dog food, I'd Google search his new food. I was amazed and relieved to read the lawsuits against Purina. So I think I’ve found the problem, hopefully some natural foods help him get better. He is just lying next to me curled up in a ball. And he is breathing weird. Stay away from this food. Stay away from this dog food!!

I have been feeding my dogs (14 lbs and 44 lbs) this dog food for 10 months with no problem. In December my dogs started losing weight, even though they continued to eat normally and have normal bowel movements. My little dog started being a little off-normal one Friday. Late Sunday she was vomiting and drinking a lot. Seeing she was ill I planned to take her to the vet in the morning.
My little doggie died in the night on December 17, 2018. I did not initially think it was the food. But after looking at these reviews, researching poisoning symptoms, and trying to think of alternative explanations, I believe the food killed one of my dogs and made the other ill. I will never feed an animal commercially produced animal food again, for two reasons:
(1) Any dietary problem that results from feeding my dog people food would be an honest mistake, and not the result of a greed-based decision-making process; (2) Manufacturers of food intended for human consumption are more likely to face meaningful (i.e., expensive) consequences if the food is poisonous than are manufacturers of animal food. Apparently there is no law against killing pets with poison food, since they don't have any monetary value. I am disturbed that I was able to easily find many years worth of complaints about this dog food online. Does no one care?

Our household usually buys a Holistic brand dog food, and because we ran out, my husband decided to get a 40lb bag of Purina Beneful. We have three dogs ranging from 50-80 lbs. Our oldest has been vomiting and has diarrhea, and acting like she’s scared, panting heavy, and seems disoriented, and our middle one has been vomiting now... the only common problem is the food. This isn’t the first time this has happened... Instead of quantity how about making a quality product! Put yourself in our shoes... Would you want your pet’s food making your pet sick or worse? Better yet, think of your pet as your child... I bet quality control, regulations, and ingredients would be better! I will never buy this product or any Purina product ever again. I have an Alaskan Malamute that's 165 pounds at 10 months. We selected the Beneful brand because of the ingredients. So since my boy has been on it he's always vomiting a green frothy spew and his stool is always runny. We have taken him to the vet previously and the vet had ruled it out as a sickness. However with his fully potty trained self he's had quite a few accidents in the house. The last time he had an accident in the house we noticed blood in his stool so we contacted the emergency vet and they noticed internal bleeding. This is how I found out about this lawsuit because they asked me what I was feeding him and I told them 3 cups twice a day of the Beneful and they told me to change his diet completely.
Thank God for pet insurance otherwise his hospital stay and treatment would have cost me 11000 dollars. I have since switched him to the Rachael Ray Nutrish brand and every symptom has diminished. Never in my life will I ever recommend this brand of food to anyone to include my worst enemy. If you're feeding your furry child this brand please stop immediately before it's too late. I almost lost my boy because of this brand!

My three dogs have been on Beneful for several years without incident until recently. I noticed in the past 2 weeks that their stomachs seemed to be upset. They all have had extremely bad gas and a change in the appearance of their stool. Very soft stools with a lot of mucus. My female was showing some signs of foaming at the mouth. Nothing else has changed in their diet and I mad sure they were not getting into or eating anything outside. I changed their food to a grain free better product. It is much more expensive but there was am immediate difference. No more bad gas and stools look normal. I would no longer recommend this brand of dog food for any dog.

I feel so foolish, I gave my Yorkie Beneful grain-free food. He was on a much more expensive organic/holistic brand from a specialty store but we ran out over the weekend. We got a new bag of Beneful from a local store & fed it to him Sunday and within a couple hours he was vomiting foam everywhere. He gradually got worse, extremely lethargic and couldn't even get up. We brought him water to drink and thank God he at least drank. When I got home from work Tuesday he had pooped himself... he couldn't even get up to go poop and it was runny, bloody and foul smelling. I had to bathe him but he could hardly stand up in the bathtub. He wouldn't stop shivering and I could tell he lost several pounds. I just wrapped him up in a dry towel & a blanket and held him until he warmed up.
I literally thought he was going to die... it was awful. He slept with me all covered up to stay warm. He hadn't eaten for several days. Finally on Wednesday morning he started to regain an appetite. I got him his holistic food and he's so much better. He's no longer getting sick and is barking and wagging his tail again. The food change was the only thing we did differently, it's not a coincidence. I called the store that we bought the Beneful from to tell them they need to get that crap off the shelves. I didn't want a refund, just wanted to make sure this doesn't happen to another animal. These online reviews here describe exactly what happened to my dog. Apparently this "food" has killed much larger dogs... we are so lucky to still have our tiny baby. Please don't give your fur babies this poison.

Do not feed your dog Beneful. In February my lab got incredibly sick. It was really hard to pinpoint all of the symptoms at once. The symptoms included severe diarrhea throughout the night, panting, loss of appetite, drinking lots of water. Her joints seemed to ache too because she was having trouble getting upstairs. We went to the vet multiple times as new symptoms appeared. Finally we stopped the food after a few weeks. She slowly started to get better. Slowly, like several weeks later she was about 80%... then we noticed she seemed blind. Like almost overnight.
One week on a walk she was catching balls, the next week couldn't see a thing. We brought her to the ophthalmologist who said this was extremely unusual to happen so quickly and with her size and breed. She diagnosed it as SARDs but didn't know why. But I do. It's the food. Let me add one last thing. My sister's lab also got really sick the month before mine. After comparing notes she realized she had been out of her fancy food so she feed her dog Beneful from Walgreens for 4 days while waiting for hers to be delivered Coincidence? I doubt it... we were next door neighbors... shame on you Purina.

After purchasing Beneful dog food for my dog for several months without any issues other than shedding (which I thought was normal for the breed) I went to my local store to pick up a new bag of dog food. The store was at the time sold out of the Beneful variety that I normally purchase (which was Salmon), so I decided to purchase the Healthy Weight Variety. Over the course of the next month my dog began vomiting, having more frequent bowel movements, developed a skin infection on his scrotum, developed yeast infections in both ears, an eye infection, starting shedding excessively and overall just seemed not himself.
I did not initially link this dog food variety to his health issues, because I had never had a problem with this brand before. I began treating his yeast infection, eye infection, skin infection and researching supplements for excessive shedding. If I could rate them in the negative numbers it still wouldn't be enough. Five years ago we lost our sweet dog due to many similar complaints I've heard from others. And there's not a doubt in my mind that it was from Beneful dog food. She was only 8 years old, a beautiful completely healthy, active Samoyed named Missy. We changed her dog food to Beneful when she was about 5 years old, and she still remained happy, healthy, active... until all of a sudden one day she was limping and her hind right leg was a little swollen. We took her to the vet and they thought maybe she sprained her knee so they wrapped it for support.
About a week later she was much worse and could hardly walk, was depressed and laid on the floor crying. Again, took her to the vet and they still couldn't figure out what was wrong but this time ran bloodwork. The next day she laid there screaming and howling in pain, it was awful... neighbors came over to our house because it sounded like someone was beating her. We immediately brought her to the vet where he decided to X-ray her to see what was going on within and as he lifted her there were about 5 maggots on the floor where she was laying! The bloodwork came back while we were there and he discovered her liver was shutting down, she had blood coming out from her mouth, and she was literally rotting from the inside out, hence the maggots falling out from the inside of her body. She died shortly afterwards.
This was the most horrific experience... for years your dog is completely healthy, happy and within less than two weeks she went from happy, to limping, to screaming in pain from rotting from within. I don't care that Nestle/Purina got away with it in court from semantics, they didn't win... they are a horrible, horrible company and there are thousands of people who lost animals the same way we lost ours. There cannot possibly be that many coincidences in the world! They killed our dog... and thousands more... and the FDA stands behind them while they kill God knows how many more. I wish everyone would hear about what they're doing now so they don't have to watch their own animals suffering and especially for these poor animals sake. Innocent lives taken for profit... it's a sin. I will never buy from Nestle or Purina again... anything.

A few months ago, our local Wal-Mart stopped carrying Healthy Weight, so I switched them to Beneful Originals without incident. Last week, we ran out so I stopped at Dollar General. We have a 7-year-old Boxer female. She arrived from the kennel with Beneful puppy chow, so we fed her that for the first year or so, and then moved her to Beneful Healthy Weight later. She has always been quite healthy. Until two days ago, when we noticed blood in her urine. We immediately made an appointment at the vet. It seems she has bladder stones, The xrays revealed that her bladder is full of them. She is currently in surgery--with xrays and other tests, setting us back about $1250 dollars. Worse, yesterday she passed one smaller stone quite easily. But last night she could not urinate at all from 7 pm until about 3 pm, when she passed a second, larger stone.
Our vet indicated that the ph balance (acid level) in Beneful dry foods is directly correlated with producing bladder stones. We were shocked. The vet indicated that 90 percent of the cases of bladder stones that she sees are from dogs that are fed Beneful. So I am posting this here to warn others: DO NOT USE BENEFUL DOG FOOD. Our beloved family pet, a Chihuahua named Chewy, died this past week suddenly and unexpectedly, and I believe that Beneful dog food may be the culprit after discovering that thousands of pet owners reported similar illness and deaths of their dogs while eating Beneful. Beneful Incredibites was Chewy's primary food source for quite some time. One evening we noticed that Chewy's right hind leg was so swollen that he could hardly walk on it. Upon further exam, his stomach was purple and black toward his back legs. We were going to take him to our family vet the next morning, thinking he may have something wrong with his leg, but he did not even make it through the night. Around midnight he woke us up screaming in pain, and at that point he went downhill fast and died soon thereafter. He did have some bloody discharge/vomit come from his mouth shortly before he died.
Upon examination the next morning, our vet said the stomach discoloration was from internal bleeding and it was probably cancer, so we opted not to have him cut open. I wish I had now, because I have a feeling that we would have found kidney failure and/or liver damage, instead. I just couldn't understand why a dog was healthy one day and within 24 hours was dying a horrible unexplained death. Then I remembered that we had taken him to the vet a month earlier for bloody diarrhea. That's when my daughter and I began to do some research and found similar stories from other pet owners, including two class action lawsuits that had been filed but dismissed later. I think over 3,000 reported cases (and those are just the reported ones) should be enough for someone to investigate further. We, as consumers on behalf of our cherished family pets, deserve better.

I am shaking so badly it is hard to calm my nerves. I have an American Staffordshire who originally was being fed a more expensive brand of food before I adopted her. I eventually changed her over to Beneful Healthy Weight gradually. In hindsight this is when these patches of hair started missing on each of her sides. She is an inside dog exclusively no plants or other toxins for her to get into but she gets extremely ill more and more frequently. Each time I would based upon prior experience remove her dog food. Give her water only for 48 hours. Give her plain white rice then gradually add ground beef is she seems to be losing too much weight. After a few days she is fine. Then back to Beneful she goes. The cycle begins again. She is lethargic with mucous looking poop, vomiting. She has accidents at the door signaling that she got as close to outside as she could. These are explosive diarrhea episodes all on walls and doors indicating illness.
Finally I associated the episodes with Beneful especially when the bag had not been sealed airtight. I thought she was gonna die the last time but again didn't yet associate with Beneful. Last night after she became ill again I recalled my American Bulldog who died at the age of 6 suddenly. I had left her and her Beneful Healthy Radiance with friends when I moved. I always blamed them because the explanation was they thought was just old. All she did was lay around and get sick.
I am very afraid this food killed Aaliyah whom was my murdered father's dog and very dear to me and now my new baby whom I adopted because she is Aaliyah's doppelgänger. If she dies too I will probably lose my mind. This is my only child now. Please don't feed this food until there is a resolution. This is not coincidence. There might be tests proving otherwise but something in the handling or storage combined with ingredients is making dogs ill and causing deaths. Real talk. I keep her food in a self-feeding container. As owners we need to all compare notes and figure out common threads.

I purchased Beneful Healthy Weight with real chicken on 1/20/2018 at the local grocery store. After my dog started eating this food he became ill. On Friday morning I noticed he had swelling in his right back foot and leg. I had him stand up and walk around and then the swelling started to move to his left leg and abdomen. I immediately took him to the vet and lab work was completed. Saturday morning the vet contacted me with results. My dog has no fever, his white cell count is fine but he is losing proteins from his body. The doctor recommended either a second opinion or for me to take him to a specialist in another city.
As my veterinarian has not a clue as to what is causing it my dog has been healthy until I change to this food. I bought him another bag which I have just opened this morning. Needless to say I think I’m going to feed him boiled chicken rice etc. If I find that this dog food is killing my dog I’m sure I will be one of many to go after Purina. My dog is my companion and my best friend. The thought of losing him is devastating.

Within the week of giving my dog Beneful he got really lame and started vomiting stuff that looks like fluff... He does not vomit when given a different dog food... I wish we could put negative stars on this. I had a healthy happy Boston Terrier named Buttons 4 yrs ago. We had ran out of our normal food and purchased Beneful as a substitute food. I went out of town that weekend and left her with my husband and kids. She was approximately 15 lbs. When I returned home on Sunday, I noticed she was not her normal energetic happy self so I questioned my family and was told she had vomited several times that day and day before. Since I had not been in town, I thought maybe they fed her too much or not enough so would call vet the next morning if she was still ill. Monday morning she was so lethargic she wouldn’t even go outside to potty so I called her vet and rushed her over.
Blood tests showed she had some sort of poison in her system. With more testing, find out she is going into liver failure! Crying so hard, I have to call my husband to come calm me down so I could go home. Buttons had to stay at the vet and they were giving medications through IV overnight and would call me first thing in the morning. Tuesday morning around 7:30 they call me to tell Me to get there right away, they weren’t sure she was going to be alive much longer. Only option was to do a blood transfusion with little hope that it would work. The hardest day of my adult life was holding Buttons as she slipped away. In my heart I knew it was the food!!!!

Beneful is the worst food ever for dogs! The Humane Society was feeding Beneful to my dog at the time I adopted her so I assumed they knew what they were doing by feeding her the food. I spent the first two years of her life dealing with diarrhea. She would get diarrhea, I would feed her rice and chicken, it would clear up, then I returned to feeding her Beneful. She was even on probiotics for a while, but nothing ever seemed to help. Lucy, is the first dog I have raised on my own. I felt like a horrible dog owner, because she was always sick. Looked on the Internet to see if other people were having these issues and that was the first time I read about liver damage from dogs being fed Beneful. Immediately, I changed her dog food. You know what... her health improved.
Diarrhea became a rare occurrence. I thought I dodged the bullet, and my dog would be spared. Found out today she has kidney disease!! Don't know how much longer she has. Could be a year, but she definitely will NEVER make it to her tenth birthday just because Purina won't pull their worthless product off the shelf!! I freaked out and thought he might've eaten something so I contacted emergency vet because it was Christmas Eve and the regular vet wasn't open. They told me to monitor him and try feeding him rice and chicken.
So I tried feeding him that and he couldn't even really open his mouth without being in pain and he started having black stool but no more vomiting. On Christmas Day he started acting more normal and actually tried eating and walking around and since I've switched him to canned food he's back to his old self, but me thinking he ate something wrong. Kept feeding my other two the IAMS and now they are vomiting, no blood yet and thankfully I searched around online. I'm never buying this crap again!! My 6-year old beagle was slightly overweight and the vet recommended switching her to a weight management diet. I have used Purina products with other animals in the past and I decided to purchase Beneful because it was touted as a healthier option and had a weight management version. She was in very good health according to two vets (except that she was taking in too many calories), no problems with her blood work, etc. After a few months on Beneful she lost about 8 lbs, putting her back into a healthy weight, however she started vomiting and having diarrhea. We thought she'd gotten into something but couldn't find evidence of her eating anything outside of her Beneful. She was put on a bland diet and given meds to treat acid indigestion, combat nausea/vomiting, etc. She seemed to get better for a few weeks.
When we switched her back to Beneful, the nausea and vomiting began showing up, almost in a cycle. She would be OK for a week or so, then vomiting, diarrhea. The vet couldn't find anything abnormal in her blood work and ruled out parasites. After a few rounds of the same problems, she began having stools that were gelatinous and bloody. The vet was still unable to find the problem, they kept thinking she got into something wrong and just recommended we put her back on the bland diet. I've spent well over $2,000 in vet bills with no answers. It finally occurred to me to look online to see if I could make some connection to what was making her sick. I stumbled across the info about a Beneful lawsuit. It NEVER occurred to me that the dog food could have been what was causing her problems.
As I read other dog owner's horror stories, they were very similar to mine. Apparently the lawsuit was dropped because no-one has been able to effectively prove Beneful is directly responsible for the deaths and illnesses. My sweet girl is still here with us, but her health is terrible, she continues to have accidents in the house, vomiting and diarrhea, and some days she just refuses to eat. I fear the damage done to her system is irreparable. I am currently making her dog food to ensure that I know what is in it. She has fewer symptoms with the bland diet, but she was eating Beneful for so long, that I don't think she's going to recover.
Please, if you're reading this, do NOT feed your dog Beneful. I hope that Purina will take action to either fix the problem or pull the line from the shelves. There is no reason that our companions should have to suffer due to negligence on Purina's part.

I fed my 65 pound, 12 year old American Pit Bull Terrier the exact same food his whole life up until his last 2 weeks. He had just been to the vet 2 days after I changed his food and my vet of 25+ years said, "He's the healthiest Pit Bull I've ever seen at his age" and to keep doing whatever it was that I was doing. I switched him to Beneful because he was getting old and thought it would be easier to chew. After a couple of weeks he all of a sudden woke up having what I thought was a seizure, and started peeing in the chair he was asleep in. I held and comforted him before I moved him to the floor where he then pooped and vomited twice and started panting heavily. Shortly after he couldn't move at all, and he was an extremely active and healthy dog.
So we immediately rushed him to the emergency vet that night, and I rode in the back with him all the way so he wouldn't be scared and know that I was close. He tried to stand up twice but could only barely use his front legs, his hind legs were completely limp. I had no idea that I was slowly watching my baby/best friend fade away the entire time. The emergency vet took him out of my arms and carried him in and he just looked lost with a blank look in his eyes. That was the last time I ever saw what I loved more than anything else in this world. The vet was asking if there had been any head trauma, and eventually just told me it was a stroke or aneurysm.
After reading a lot of these reports on here with a lot of very similar testimonies, and watching the documentary, "Pet Fooled", I'm 100% sure it was this food that caused it. I can't begin to explain the amount of psychological and emotional stress and amount of pain that I have had to deal with. I was with that dog 24/7-365 a year, ever since he was 6 weeks old, and there's NOTHING in this world that can ever fill the void it left in my life. This has got to stop. Beneful dog food is one of the first dog foods We fed Our beloved Min-Pin, but that changed real quick. When we brought her home We took her to Our local Vet. She was healthy as all get out. We choose to feed our dog Beneful because of all the sweet Commercials and claims they made during their commercials. Little did we know, Beneful was affecting our dog's liver and killing it slowly but surely, within 1 year. YIKES we thought if we keep feeding our pet Beneful Our dog will be dead within another year or two. So we tried an experiment our own and switch dog foods. Lo and behold our dog’s liver improved a lot since taking her off of beneful dog food... but I will say this company is brilliant. Dogs love the hell out of beneful. If you ever look at beneful it looks like a bowl of mini chewy treats and very soft.
So the moral of this story is stay away from Beneful dog food if you want your dog alive longer than five years without liver problems. No disrespect to "Beneful". You do make an obvious Tasty food for dogs... but your ingredients is equivalent to a McDonald's triple cheeseburger with 4 extra greasy sausages stuffed in the middle with extra grease poured on top??? There was another dog owner with the same issue. Did Beneful admit to these claims when confronted... Of course not. According to beneful we're probably bad dog owners and that's why the majority of dogs eat beneful get liver issues right??? And I guess you might have those few people that think this product is the greatest thing on the market and their dog does cartwheels on the front lawn. I would definitely reconsider when you take that beneful bag off the shelf... It's not fair to your pet.

My dog has been eating Purina Beneful original dog for a couple weeks now. After a few days she started losing her appetite, would skip one meal or both some days but we thought maybe she was just having common stomach problems because she would eat grass outside and had gas. After the first week, we started noticing hair loss on her hind legs and stomach area, as well as weird skin problems that were flaky and looked like scratches on the inside and outside of her legs. Her stomach is now bloated and hanging down more than before and I was told by a colleague about this dog food.
I did my research, threw the remaining dog food away and made a vet appt. Now that she is eating another food, she hasn't skipped a meal yet. The vet visit isn't until later this week so I'm not sure what the damage is yet internally or what the weird scratches and skin problems are on her legs but I, like most people, don't have thousands of dollars to spend on the vet because of a company that puts harmful ingredients to dogs in their dog food. Please don't buy this food if you love your dog. Spend the extra money to ensure your pet's health.

Last Saturday, my dog was happy, she played, was energetic. I opened the new bag of Beneful and fed her. A little later, she started vomiting and became extremely lethargic. I took her to the vet yesterday and blood tests showed her liver number's incredibly high. The vet asked a lot of questions about what she might have consumed but the dog food was all she ate. I have been feeding my dog Beneful for several years, although she was never enthusiastic about it. No more. I cannot definitively say this dog food caused this problem but common sense says it did. I hope she recovers.

I just bought Purina this month because the 20lb bag was on sale for $7 bucks and then I read all these and I had the same problem. But now since he no longer is eating it he is not having the runs. Today my dog's do nothing but vomit and they have had severe diarrhea and my littlest one, the Chihuahua Min Pin has severe bloody diarrhea. Keep in mind this has never happened to my dogs before, ever, from anything and this is happening from only two bowls of this dog food.
This needs to be pulled off of shelves immediately and taken off the market. This is absolutely toxic. I never could imagine a food could do this to my pets. I'm only hoping that they will survive. I have two one-year-old cats that also like dog food, they ate a couple pieces on day one and I haven't seen either cat at all since then, unfortunately they're probably dead somewhere due to this food. As a pet parent of a Beagle/Basset, we were unaware of the toxic diet we were feeding our beloved Biscuit. Biscuit was rescued from the pound at age 1 and he (as most Beagles are) was a bit obsessed with food. So when we switched him to the Healthy Weight from Purina, he didn't seem to mind. After a few months on the new diet, he started having seizures which our vet said it was probably something in the breed.
However after my wife found some articles online a couple years later linking this food to possible seizures, we decided to switch his food to Blue Buffalo (healthy weight). He immediately stopped having seizures and hasn't had one since (which we reported to our vet). Beneful is the reason why my 3 dogs got sick. I was feeding them Beneful for years and noticing their health as marginal but not a cause of alarm until I took them off of Beneful for a 50 pound bag of a high protein food. When that bag was gone I bought another Beneful as their normal feeding and fed them their first bowl. Within 6 hours all 3 had thrown it up. Thinking it was just some fluke or a changed diet I did fed them again with Beneful. All three threw it up and one 7 year old healthy male got severely ill. Gums white, no appetite, throwing up bile. More like poisoning.
I took the bag back to the retailer and they said they had several complaints about Beneful making other dogs sick. I got a store credit. I switched foods and never will use Beneful again or any Purina product. I hope you do the same. If enough people stop buying the product, they will fix the problem or go out of business. I believe it is the use of foreign food raw ingredients in the product. No one is monitoring the heavy metals and toxins that come over and FDA uses the science of the same companies they are supposed to monitor. They generally wait for consumers to file lawsuits and then they take a look at the problem.

Later I tried the Beneful again, he still didn't want it. Reluctantly, later in the day he did finally eat some of the Beneful and then began to vomit all over the house!
This dog food is toxic! He has never gotten sick before and is not a picky eater. He knew this food was bad but, finally gave in to his hunger. I started giving this food one week ago to my dog (Purina Beneful Incredibites), and 2 days ago I noticed something strange in the dogs bed. It looked like intestines with something black attached to it (very strange). I did not pay any attention to it at the time although it made me wonder what it was. Today I found something similar with vomit and I started to worry about my dogs health. I even took pictures of it to show them to the vet. I started searching for information trying to figure out what was this thing that my dog vomited, and I found there are other complaints about this product, dogs that have died after eating this food for months, with mass in the stomach found.
I called Purina (1-888-236-3385) and put a complaint, but the lady that answered kept saying that there were no complaints about that product. I gave the number on the bar scan and the number below the expiration date. I told them to take that food out of stores. My next complaint will be at Walmart where I bought it. I had the unfortunate experience of seeing my beloved dog Chloe pass away last week on 02/02/17. She was only 7 years old when she died. She was a very vibrant, active mastiff pit husky mix. As a result of my own health issues I had to stop working and could no longer afford the expensive natural dog food (Taste of the Wild) that she was used to eating since she was a puppy. I mean I really went bottom of the barrel when I think about it because I feel that most of the dog food on the store shelves is garbage. I should have done my research.
Needless to say about 4 months ago I had to switch her dog food to a more affordable option. Beneful Healthy Weight is what I went with. I felt reassured that it was a good alternative because it's been around for a long time and I'd seen it on TV. Boy was I wrong!! I should have paid heed when I noticed that she would leave a large portion of the food in her bowl for days but I kept on filling her bowl with that toxic dog food. She much rather eat her dog treats.
Days before she started vomiting yellow bile she became desperately thirsty and I thought it was really odd. I was praying that she would get better and kept an eye on her to see if any other symptoms cropped up. She seemed to be more tired too. She vomited bile for days and then she wouldn't even eat or drink anything. I tried to get her to eat plain rice and boiled some ground beef as the vet suggested but to no avail. She refused to eat. I was not able to take her to the vet because I had no income and the vets wouldn't see her without payment up front. In the end she suffered so terribly. It was horrible to watch! I only hope that anyone who reads this takes heed and never buy that brand of dog food because I truly believe it is what killed her.

My dog is a black lab and has been eating the food Beneful for 14 years. He always ate his own poop and other animals poop and I always have thought it was normal behavior. He would occasionally get sick and throw up his food. He started doing it more in the last year every single week. He became very skinny and would barely eat his food. I could see his ribs. I started working at Petco and learned about dog nutrition and learned what a horrible food Beneful is. The reason why dogs eat their own poop is because they aren't getting enough nutrition from their food and would rather eat their own poop than the food that makes them sick.
Beneful has tons of recalls on it and is making several dogs sick and dying. I switched my dog to a grain free food and he doesn't eat his poop, gained weight back and is active as ever. He will be 16 in April and I think the only reason why he is still alive is because of the food switch. It's never too late. Please switch off this terrible food to prevent thousands of dollars in vet bills and your best friend suffering. Rule of thumb for everyone, don't ever buy any pet food or treats from the grocery store, none of those foods are good quality, pet store only. Avoid Iams, Purina, Pedigree, Diamond, Cesar, Fromm. Go grain free it'll make their poop more solid and can be processed more easily. Please get smart and research everything you feed to your dog, it could save their life.

I am writing on behalf of my mom, who is too upset and distraught to write a review, or further look into her beloved Great Dane's death. My mom was the proud owner of a very hyper, yet loving Great Dane; who she had owned for the past 2 years, since he was old enough to come home from the breeder. My mom had always given Harley (her Great Dane) the same brand/type of dog food, and had never had any issues. Harley also was up to date on vaccinations, and showed no prior medical concerns. My mom had planned to visit me for a few days, in which she left the dogs (she has 2) in the company of a close friend to take care of. This was also not the first time my mom had traveled, nor the first time he was taken care of by this particular dog sitter.
Well, prior to my mom leaving for the airport, she ran out of her monthly scheduled/shipped dog food, so she ran to the store and grabbed a small bag to hold over until the shipment arrived (2 days later). Little did I know, she grabbed a bag of Beneful, dry dog food. I personally know of all the recalls and negative reviews with owners claiming it had killed/sickened their dog - but my mom was not aware. 24-hours on the new dog food, we received a phone call that Harley seemed very lethargic, laid on the couch/pretty motionless. He didn't have the same spark, or didn't jump up and bark at (the dog sitter) when they arrived, like Harley had always done. In fact, Harley really didn't move much. We video chatted with Harley, thinking maybe he was depressed my mom had left him, but no excitement from him. His gums were still pink, nose was moist - other than being "tired" or lethargic, the signs you look for, seemed to check out.
This is when I learned of the brand of dog food she bought him, and that's when I alarmed her of the bad reviews and lawsuits. She asked the dog sitter to check on him in a few hours, and at that point, decide if he needed to go to a vet, or if he was better... just as anyone would do, even if home. Monitor before deciding... in the meantime, my mom called her vet and her vet pretty much informed her the same - to take him to the vet if he doesn't get better, or if his gums turn white, etc.
A few hours later, we received a frantic call from the dog sitter, who was already in route to the emergency vet. (mind you, he had to pick up and transport a 150 lb. dead weight dog!) By this point, less than 3 hours later, Harley's heart rate seemed to rapidly decline, and his mouth smelled of bile - he was rushed to the emergency vet, but by the time he made it and they checked him on the table, there was unfortunately no heartbeat, and he was pronounced deceased.
After further review, the Dr. instructed us the cause of death was bloat. While they informed us bloat can be common in Great Danes - it seemed odd to me that he never had any issues, he also used a Slow-Bowl, so not to inhale his food; and that the only change was his diet - the change from a dog food he always ate, to Beneful dry food, and 24-hours later, he was sick, less than 36 dead. After reading reviews, I believe Beneful is the culprit. DO NOT buy Beneful!!!

My heart weighs heavy as I just so happened to stumble across the concerns related to Beneful dog food. Back in December of 2011 we brought our 10 week old golden retriever, Bella, home to meet her new family which consisted of mom, dad, and 3 boys. We were delighted to welcome her into our family, it was new beginnings for us as a family. She was our sweet baby girl and loved so dearly.
In September of 2014 she became ill (peeing in the house, stopped eating, drinking enormous amounts of water, lethargic). We took her to the vet assuming she may have consumed something or had an obstruction. X-rays were taken to rule out any blockage, they were negative. They wanted to start an IV and antibiotics but we opted for blood work to find the cause. We took her home that night and in the morning I received that dreaded phone call. Bella had excessive amounts of potassium in her system and was in kidney failure. Our options - put her down or let her suffer another day or two and let her pass on her own! We made the decision to put her down later that day and end her suffering. I remember the drive to the school to bring my boys home so they can say their last goodbyes. I choked back the tears as I delivered the news to them. It was the saddest day of our lives.
This all happened so quickly and there was nothing we could do to change anything. She showed no signs of illness throughout her few short years with us, was taken to the vet regularly, no unusual sicknesses other than occasional stomach issues (which I thought were normal) but Bella was fed Beneful from the time she was a puppy.
We have since adopted a rescue dog (Great Dane/Lab) who just turned 5, we've had her for almost two years now. Initially we had her on a different food but due to cost and convenience we switched her to Beneful thinking it was ok for Bella it will be fine for her. However, I have noticed since we switched she seems to be doing things like, eating grass, chewing up her toys, leaving food in her bowl, stuff she was not previously doing but also very similar to what Bella used to do.
I'm thankful but very saddened to have stumbled across this information regarding Issues/concerns others have had regarding Beneful dog food. I went out and purchased a different product for my sweet Tessa girl we have now, the thought of losing her possibly due to a particular brand of food would be heartwrenching. I will not longer purchase this product and believe further research needs to be done. If this is the case and all of these dogs have suffered similar illnesses due to their diet something MUST be done! My thoughts are with each and every pet owner who has suffered a loss!

I've been feeding my dog Beneful original formula off and on since I rescued her nearly 10 years ago. There was never an issue as far as I could tell. But about a year ago she stopped showing interest her food and was eating less and less and was also becoming more and more lethargic. She also would frequently eat my other dogs' food who is on a special diet because of allergies. I thought she liked his food better and wasn't as active because she's getting older, but since she was losing weight I started adding wet food to her dry to try to entice her to eat more frequently, which worked. Mostly she has just had runny and mucousy poops from time to time but I thought it was because we were giving her too much wet food, so I would scale it down, and have changed the wet food a few times, but her poops stayed the same.
Three days ago I popped into the grocery store and picked her up a small bag of food to get her through until I could make it to Target to get her the larger bag. I had accidently grabbed the beef Beneful instead of the original and the next day she had runny poops. Then last night I came home from work to find her completely freaked out and absolutely covered in hives, she had also vomited up all of her breakfast. I thought that maybe she was just allergic to the beef so I threw it out and had my boyfriend to stop to get her the original Beneful.
I gave her some ** and the hives went down a little and she seemed more comfortable, and come her usual dinner time she seemed more than ready to eat. Since I also wasn't 100% sure if it was the wet food since she had only been on it for a few months, I only gave her the dry kibbles. Within 30 minutes of eating it she was covered in hives from head to toe, about 3 times worse than they were when I'd first gotten home. I gave her more ** and monitored her to make she wasn't having any respiratory distress etc. She is a very well behaved dog and even though she knows she's not allowed on the bed when we tried to get to calm down and stop itching last night she jumped up on the bed and burrowed into me. I decided to let her sleep in the bed with us since it seemed to help calm her. I woke up several times during the night to the sound of her whimpering, even in her sleep.:(
She had a pretty rough night, but thankfully seemed back to normal and hive free this morning. We of course didn't give her any of the Beneful again today. When I got home from work this evening I Sat down to research the ingredients in the Beneful original formula, the Beneful beef and her wet food so that I could make sure that the new food I get her doesn't contain any of the ingredients found in them. That's when I found this website. I just can't believe that I've been tricking her into eating poison all this time by adding wet food to it. I feel absolutely horrible and I just hope that no irreversible damage was done. :(

When our dog had puppies in 2012, I chose a medium priced dog food thinking it would better. Beneful advertised veggies and meat, and looked like a better quality product. Sadly, it was the first food our beautiful Brutus ever ate and all he was fed for his early years. After hearing the claims that it was harmful, I found info that sounded like the dog food had mold, which I hadn't seen, so I continued feeding it to him and our other two, older dogs. When we tried to change their food, it was hard to find anything they'd eat as well as Beneful.
Now our 5 yr old Brutus, the friendliest, most loving and attentive dog we've ever owned is at the vet's suffering from kidney failure. This dog has never eaten or chewed on anything that we didn't give him. When the vet suggested his kidneys may have been compromised long ago and just got to the point where there were symptoms, I decided to review the Beneful info again.
I found that there are toxins in the food, fit in "acceptable" limits. Well, our baby was ingesting those when his puppy body was growing, when I thought I was giving him something healthy. Since kidneys can operate with up to 75% damage it makes sense that it wasn't obvious earlier. Although he didn't die in a few short weeks after being fed Beneful, it makes sense that those toxins built up in him and finally caused kidney failure. He has never been exposed to anything else that would explain the horrible illness. It's time Purina stepped up and removed Beneful from the shelves. Brutus is a member of our family, - and we are grieving over him.

My ten-month-old puppy, Charlie, has died after eating Purina Beneful dog food. His illness began shortly after eating the food. He started having trouble breathing – a little at first, but within a couple days his sides were heaving and he could no longer run or play. I took him to the vet on Friday and the vet could hear that his heart was in bad shape. He seemed shocked and asked me repeatedly, “You haven't noticed these symptoms before?” "No, it just started." He said to schedule an x-ray the following week. Over the weekend, not yet realizing the problem, I fed my best friend this poison from the palm of my hand thinking if he would just eat he could survive. I had no idea the food was what was killing him and the pain of my actions consumes me. I spent a beautiful day with him outdoors on Sunday. My healthy, active, frisky puppy could only bask in the sun. He had to be carried. He could barely walk on his own. Monday, he couldn't go on.
My baby passed away in my arms. My BEST FRIEND. The canine love of my life, my soulmate. I loved this beautiful, innocent animal as my child. I protected him from owls, from strangers, from fire ants, and sandspurs... But I could not protect him from his own food his life source. I am heartbroken and devastated by his loss. After his death, I racked my brain for every possibility of his illness – and the only change had been in his dog food. Lo and behold, he's not the first and likely will not be the last to lose his life due to a "trusted" brand keeping poison on store shelves.
My baby is gone. My sweet, loving, affectionate, silly, funny, wonderful Charlie is gone. Phi, Alex. I really thought you were a good guy and I hate feeling so disappointed... is there any chance you could do what you said you would do, based on principle, so my final impression of you will be as a man of your word? And if you won't do it, then could you at least tell me why you won't rather than ignoring me, as a man of integrity? He has recently had a full blood test done and has no problems with anything except he has arthritis which is not surprising for his age. So I do feel bad for those who have lost their dogs but I for one have no complaints about Beneful dog food.

I was feeding my dogs a brand of dog food that I had to travel to buy. I had seen ads saying that Beneful had a new formulation that had beef as the first ingredient and it was available at a local grocery store so I bought it and over a few days switched the dogs over. The new food was enticing and the dogs seemed to like it. Within a week of being on the food, I came home on a Wednesday night to find my 10 year old golden-doodle Jack very ill. I rushed him to an emergency vet and they found he had a heart rate of 200, had to be put on oxygen because his gums and tongue were grey, and they witnessed the extreme abdominal/back 'contractions' that made me take him there in the first place.
After x-rays, blood tests and an US, they could see no obstructions or anything of immediate concern. They gave him a shot of painkiller and I took him home. He slept most of the next couple days which I chalked up to the painkiller and I spoke with my regular vet saying that I would watch him and come in if necessary. He wasn't eating but was eager for water and was able to get out for walks etc. Sunday was a bad day but Monday and Tuesday he seemed to rebound a bit to his puppy like self and didn't want his kibble but seemed eager to eat. I put some pumpkin, something that he loved and is good for dogs tummies, on his kibble and he licked it all off and left the kibble. Within an hour the contractions started in earnest.
My vet was closed, the emergency vet over an hour away. I lay beside him comforting him and waiting for the episodes to subside but they didn't. I had an appointment the next day at my own vet and thought we would certainly get there. At one point I was sitting on the couch on the phone with someone and he got up, came over to me, put his paw on my knee and fell over backwards. He didn't get up again and by 4:30 in the morning he was dead. I was with him until the end. I ran over the preceding weeks trying to figure out what I could have done to contribute to such a drastic change in a beautiful healthy animal and I decided to look up Beneful to see if there was anything online about this brand, something in hindsight, I should have done before buying it.
I was shocked by what I read. Jack's symptoms were exactly what many pet owners had documented with their own pet's after putting them on Beneful... there were hundreds!! Many cases had ended up with the death of a beloved animal like mine. Purina, although a recipient of these complaints and a class action lawsuit, continues to promote and distribute this brand.
My little dog Wilson is now refusing to eat kibble... I've reverted to travelling for the other brand again... and I am watching for similar symptoms. He is a little tank with an ironclad constitution so I'm hoping this is just grief and not illness. Stay away from this brand. I've informed my local grocery of Jack's death. Because Purina is such a big company, they are uncertain what, if anything they can do but the manager has promised to pass my concerns on to head office with a reference to the online info. I trusted a brand because of advertising and have paid the ultimate price. Buyer beware.

Once again, not realizing it was the food I introduced her to Beneful again puking a lot. Bought another bag of prescription food. She was fine immediately. I started mixing the Beneful with prescription to wean her off last night and at 2am woke up to her throwing up again. Are you really going to tell me it isn't the Beneful dog food? We have two dogs that were eating Beneful. Unfortunately, now I only have one dog and she will never eat Beneful again. My beautiful 27 pound Beagle named Lucky died ten days after showing symptoms of being sick. She stopped eating, was vomiting, had diarrhea, and drinking tons of water. Our vet indicated after doing blood work that her kidneys were failing and it was only a matter of time. After she died, my other dog refused to eat the Beneful. She would lay near her food, look at her dish like she was hungry but would not eat. That is when I went online and researched Beneful and the terrible rating Beneful has received and about dogs dying due to eating Beneful. I just wish I had known sooner.

My boy was fine and within 2 weeks started puking, peeing in the house and when he started pooping it was a brown dark brown color. Again unaware it was the food I was feeding him.
Today I had to put him to sleep, he could no longer get up, his legs were wobbly, he wouldn't eat for four days, he drank water that I asked him to drink. I stayed up 2 nights with him. It's been a horrible day for both of us, then knowing that I lost my best friend by feeding him this Beneful poison. We have been feeding our 3 adult dogs Kibbles 'n Bits. Unfortunately our local store was out of stock and decided to get Beneful dry dog food. Yesterday, Sunday October 23 our American Bully (Remy) got sick. We've had her going on about a year now and hasn't been sick once until yesterday. I thought it was strange, but didn't think more about it. That was around noon. Well later that night around 10 pm she got sick again and both times contained her dog food. We put her up in her kennel for the night. As I woke during the late night early morning there was two more piles of vomit containing dog food and at that time the only dog of 3 that was in there was our Labradoodle (Coco). This is the only thing that was done differently. I hope I have catched it in time and will be switching back to our preferred Dog Food. I also took photos of the 2nd dogs vomit, this really upsets me.

My brother & sister in law's 10 year old Corgi was a happy, healthy dog up until about 2 weeks ago. He began peeing in the house, wouldn't eat, had diarrhea, and his rear legs were shaking. We were expecting a hurricane in our area so we chalked it up to him perhaps sensing the impending storm and being nervous. But his symptoms continued after the storm had passed, so he was taken to the vet. Initially he was diagnosed with an undetermined gastrointestinal upset and sent home with antibiotics. A few days had passed and he still wasn't improving so the vet ordered an ultrasound. It was then that a cancerous tumor the size of a tennis ball was found in his intestines and was attaching itself to lymph nodes as well. The agonizing decision was made to put the dog to sleep.
My sister in law offered me the remainder of a bag of dry food for my dog, so it wouldn't go to waste. I asked her what she was feeding her dog, as in the past he had always been given Iams or Science Diet. When she responded "Beneful", my heart sank. She switched his food about 3 months ago, and he had all the symptoms listed in other reviews. I had read in various places about pets being sickened and dying after eating the Beneful brand and I didn't have the heart to show her the reviews on this site about this food, as she is still heartbroken over how suddenly and quickly her sweet dog got sick and passed away. Plus, telling her isn't going to bring her dog back. But hopefully my review and all the others posted here will save another dog's life in the future by not being fed Beneful. There are too many instances of this happening for this not to be investigated. Our innocent, voiceless 4 legged friends need us to speak up for them!

If only of them got sick then I would think it was something else that got her sick, however, both of them did. Please do not give your dogs this product. One of my dogs who is 15 years of age is currently at the vet getting blood work done because she is too weak to even walk. I had read all the reviews, seen all the recalls, check the Web in the past but still feed him the food in moderation. I have given him a couple handfuls of the dry food once a week since he was a baby. Because of some financial hardships in my family I started giving him the dry IncrediBites daily about 3 weeks ago. He seemed fine until today. Last night I decided to change it up a bit & gave him the dry mixed with a small 3 oz can of Beneful medley wet food. Within an hour of feeding him this combo he had what I would call hives. His lips & face swelled & he was itching everywhere.
Today he is lethargic, will not drink any water, of course won't eat anything & is puking all over my house. He seems confused, is digging at his bed (which he has never done before) & only calms down when he puts his head/face against the wall or the couch. I truly believe it's the Beneful food. Don't know if it's the combo of wet & dry or if he has just had too much of the dry. Of course it's Saturday night & all the vets in town are closed. I hope we don't lose him before we can get him some help!

We took her to the emergency vet and around 1 today we had to say our last goodbyes. She was our heart and not just a pet but a part of our family. I have since learned that many other concerned pet owners have had the same issues and they too are Beneful. If this poison had not been on the shelves, our Sadie would most likely be with us now.
Purina states the food has Propylene Glycol that is safe for humans. Dogs CANNOT consume a lot of the same things as humans. Their bodies can't handle it. Her stomach would growl with hunger so I would switch her food up, feed her scraps then switch back. I have had problems with both of my dogs throwing up and severe diarrhea. Not putting two and two together that the dog food was the issue until recently.
I bought a new bag of beneful and my pointer is refusing to eat it. I buy the bite size and didn't realize they make both beef and chicken so I'm thinking she doesn't like the beef. I'll go buy another bag of chicken, nope she refused to touch that either. My Chihuahua Stewart passed away 2 weeks ago. This was very upsetting to me, as he went from being healthy to being unable to stand nor walk after changing his food to Beneful on 4/7/16. He suddenly became ill on 5/1/16 from excessive coughing and bloating. I decided to take him to the veterinarian on the following dates, The Human Society Tim ** on 5/2/16.M. ** on 5/3/16, 5/10/16, 5/17/16, 5/20/16, 5/23/16, 5/25/16, 5/27/16.K. ** on 5/21/16. Blood work was done on 5/21/16 & 5/27/16. An x-ray was taken on 5/2/16. The first veterinarian, on 5/2/16, stated that Stewart was unusually bloated and that there was some fluid in his chest cavity. Medications were prescribed, one to remove the fluid and another to lower the blood pressure. The cause of the illness could not be determined at the time.
The next day I then decided to take Stewart and get a second opinion. Another veterinarian, Michael **, on 5/3/16 and he indicated that Stewart was bloated and should be monitored carefully. He also indicated that something caused Stewart to have a type 6 heart murmur. A prescription to suppress the coughing was provided. I noticed that Stewart was not getting better and returned to the veterinarian on several occasions. On 5/21/16, Kari **, substituting for Michael **, stated that Stewart had bloody/tar like diarrhea probably caused by the liver. Bloodwork indicated the presence of toxins, but she was unable to determine the exact cause of the illness. She also stated that Stewart became anemic and an Iron supplement was provided, Pet-Tinic. The bloodwork test was unable to provide the specific toxins present, but a blood transfusion would be performed if Stewart's condition got worse.
The veterinarian asked what type of food he was eating and I stated Beneful. The Veterinarian just stayed silent and she walked out the exam room for a few minutes. She then returned and asked me to change his food immediately. When I arrived home, I decided to remove Beneful, the food Stewart was eating since 4/7/16. Stewart was given several injections of Lactate Ringers every 3 days in an attempt to flush out the toxins and to hydrate him. For a few days he was getting better, but he suddenly took a bad turn to the worse. My poor baby would just lie down with his head looking up and tears in his eyes. It was very heartbreaking to me. By this time, he lost 1 pound of body fat. I decided to feed him baby food and Pedialyte with a syringe, since he was refusing to eat Cesar or drink water on his own.
My father would hold Stewart and I would feed him with the syringe. Stewart tried to urinate and poop, but his thin legs would collapse due to tremors and weakness, but I would hold him up until he finished. Unfortunately, on 5/27/16 at 6:03 a.m. my baby boy passed away in my arms. The veterinarian stated that he never heard anything about Beneful but that there was a great possibility that Stewart may have been food poisoned... he exhibited all of the signs. The food poisoning would cause bloating, loss of appetite, coughing, lower body temperature by 2 or 3 degrees, bloody or tar like diarrhea, weakness, difficulty breathing, create a type 1 through 6 heart murmur, renal insufficiency or renal failure causing kidney failure, breathing difficulty, and finally heart failure. A horrible way to die!
I decided to check online and I was devastated to read the many tragic and sad stories of other pets dying after eating Beneful. Stewart was like a little person to me. He was all I had left after my mother left him in my care and then she suddenly passed away. I became extremely attached to him. Why would a company manufacture a product that kills and get away with it? It’s only about profits! Beneful, by Purina, contains Propylene Glycol (Antifreeze) which is very dangerous and fatal to pets. Beneful needs to be pulled off the store shelves and the Purina company fined to the maximum allowed by law!

He eats very little, has bloodshot eyes, sores in several areas of his body, and is losing quite a bit of weight fast since I've been feeding him this dog food. He yelps for no reason as though he's hurting. I've taken him to the doctor twice in 2 months and we can't seem to figure out what's wrong with him. I didn't want to believe the Purina company would continue to put out a dog food that's poisoning dogs. I'm switching his dog food and feeding him chicken in hopes that it will nurse him back to health. I pray that he doesn't have liver failure as reported in so many case complaints. I am terribly fearful for my baby!!!

I have several times over the last 6 months added Beneful Healthy Dog Food to my Labradoodle's diet. Both times within 3 weeks he became extremely ill with diarrhea to the point of pure blood. I have been trying to figure out what is causing it. I have had to place him on a white rice and boiled chicken diet as well as give him antibiotics and diarrhea medicine.
I recently decided to google his food and was in disbelief when I read how many others had experienced this same situation with Beneful Healthy Weight dog food. My bag is going in the TRASH and I feel terrible that I thought I was giving my dog a treat by rotating the Beneful into his feedings! However I was actually making him sick. I think back over the course of the last 6 months when I began this rotation with feedings and that is when the diarrhea and blood began. It irritates and frustrates me that these dog food companies don't care about animals in the same way that pet owners care. GOOD BYE BENEFUL!

I put my Theodore (18) on Beneful dry dog food. Symptoms - throwing up, spasms, peeing on himself causing sores, coughing, sneezing, lethargic, spacey, high liver blood count, on MANY medications to ease him. We all thought it was due to his age. I inherited my son's dog (10) and he ate Beneful and started the same syndrome and we thought he was mimicking Theodore as he does this with all other animals including cat's behavior. I noticed when I tried a different brand of food they did not have the problem. I'm stunned!!!
They are OFF the food. Theodore is dying from it now, I'm too late. Since being off he has been better but the severe damage is done. I can save the other dog. I HOPE. I ONLY found out about this due to this site. I feel like I tortured my babies knowingly and I didn't. Beneful is POISON. Don't feed your animals this food please. If I only knew this 6 months ago, I would never have fed them this. Heartbreaking and when in God's name will they recall and stop producing this product!!! I'm keeping the bags as evidence!!! Vet bills and tests as evidence!!!

Puppy died at 9 months with liver damage after eating Beneful dog food. This was a wonderful dog. Please do not buy this product or provide it in your store. The food is toxic and sprayed with a spray dogs cannot resist. But the contents are poisonous for dogs. We tried to save the dog, but could not.

My Maggie 8-year-old Sheep Dog was eating the healthy weight Beneful dog food and died with Carcinoma cancer - from toxin poison to her liver. She had the same symptoms, lost 20 pounds, stop eating, yellow in the eyes, not strength. I told her to the vets on Monday, they checked her blood. It was off so I took her in for a ultrasound. They found lesions in her liver. I then had biopsy done and it was carcinoma cancer from toxin poison. She died 11/30/2015 a week later. This was devastated to me. I will never see my best friend again.
I have emailed our state representatives (NH) trying to get the dog food companies to out a warning label on the front of any dog food that has anything in the ingredients that could harm or kill our dogs. This is not fair. We as consumer have no choice but to trust that the food on the shelves isn't going to poison and kill our pets, (our family member). I also filed a lawsuit against Beneful through the website Morgan & Morgan and suggest you do the same. This is a nightmare, it's been over a month now that Maggie has been gone and I just miss her so much. I cannot fill the big empty hole in my heart. I hope this message helps someone else so they do not have to lose their best friend from negligence. Something NEEDS to be done to stop this, it's all about the money and not the best interest of our animals.

One of my Corgis died from seizures last fall. Not taking stock in what I had read on social media I continued to feed my dogs Beneful. Another one of my Corgis died this week. The vet said her bladder had exploded. Please do not feed your four-legged family members this poison.

I switched to Beneful dry dog food last spring thinking the commercials were right. I was under the assumption the food was good for dogs. My dog ended up with severe skin allergies and open sores due to the food. I had to take her to the vet's office 3 different times and spent a bucket load of money on prescriptions. As soon as I took her off any Purina foods, she cleared up.

We lost our Lab due to this food. She was a bit overweight. She ate this food and then refused it. Within a week she lost a lot of weight, literally skin and bones. We gave her another food, scraps, essentially anything that would get her to eat. She started drinking a lot of water. We thought maybe she was going to be on the mend once she began eating again. She was healthy, active, prior to us feeding her this food. She certainly didn't eat much of it. We could see some differences in her personality as she prepared to pass away. We lost her at 9.5 years on 12-12-15. She gave us one last tail wag two hours before passing. I am positive due to her prior weight, health that this food is responsible. I will never touch their product again and have quite a bit remaining. My dog knew better and we missed it.

I was feeding Beneful dog food to my dogs because they liked the flavor over a few of the other brands back in the summer of 2014. My best friend Gypsy was pregnant at the time with her first litter of puppies. She was extremely picky at the time and wouldn't eat anything but the Beneful. After she had the puppies (August 2014) I noticed that she became very thin, believing that it was due to just having puppies. I added eggs to her food. She soon started vomiting and refused to eat any of her food at all. I took her to the vet and they gave her some antibiotics.
Within four days she was too weak to walk and I had to carry her to the car. She could no longer care for her puppies. I drove her to the vet and they did an emergency operation on her. The vet said that while she was open on the table she could see an enormous hole in her intestines. She picked up her intestines and it disintegrated in the palm of her hands, at which point Gypsy's heart stopped beating and she was gone. Gypsy was gone!
I asked "what could have caused this?" I asked "was this caused by her pregnancy", the vet said "no". She said that could only be caused by something she was eating. She asked me what I was feeding her and I told her. She asked me if I had ever given her aspirin or anything that would have acid that could eat a hole in her stomach? I told her "no! Never!" She had only been given the antibiotics and she hadn't even taken those as she should because she was already sick and refusing to eat. I was devastated!!! Gypsy was not only my best friend, but a member of our family. She had gone through some very life changing experiences with me.
The vet bill was horrendous. I sold my car to pay the cost. I contacted Beneful to inform them that I felt that they were responsible for the death of my Gypsy. I received an email stating... "we are sorry, but we are not responsible... blaugh, blaugh, blaugh..." I have not heard anything more from the company. Please stop them from hurting anyone else.

My poodle has been sick a lot lately. He had been eating Beneful dog food. So we heard there was a recall, so we changed his food to kibbles n bits. Now he is having seizures and his belly has been bloated. So took him to the vet. Vet gave him some meds and told us to change his food. Maybe too late we switched to Blue, better grade of dog food. Meanwhile we hope he gets better. But for now we're sure it was the other dog foods making him sick. So don't feed your dog Beneful or kibbles n bits food!

Purchased Purina brand dog food two years ago and it made my dogs sick. They sent me coupon to replace bag. Now my German shepherd with (dm). We were at Amelia island and purchased small bag of Beneful to mix with his food as treat. This was a 5 lb bag. We came home and mixed it with our shar-pei food as well. Exactly 7 days from start of mixing this food my poor German shepherd who was perfectly healthy died in my arms. He bleed from his mouth and urine. The shar-pei was ill for another week. I am so glad I did not buy more to treat her with her normal food. I am no vet but this was second time their products have sickened my animals and now Milo is gone. With (DM) he may have had years before it took over his body. This was too soon. Both times there was a timeline with their products. Please do not buy their garbage. Feed it to rats. Not to your family.

I switched over to Purina Beneful after running out of food one night for my cocker spaniel and ran to the local grocery store and that was the best (I thought) quality they had. Shortly after a day later she started throwing up and had terrible diarrhea - keep in mind this is a pup with an iron stomach. 12 hours later she was throwing up bile and pooping straight blood. I immediately brought her to the vet and they ran a bunch of tests but couldn't figure out what was wrong, put her on an IV and gave her an anti-nausea injection and sent her home. I get her boiled chicken to get her back on food and not knowing I had poisoned her with Beneful, tried to feed it to her again. She wouldn't eat it and I, thinking it was a mental thing with her, got her a new food. She started eating that immediately and has been fine since.
It didn't even dawn on me that it could have been Beneful, I mean, it's Purina for Christ's sake. I came across an article today and a lightbulb went off. I know there was already a class action lawsuit attempted against them that was unsuccessful but I have every intention of pestering them as much as I possibly can regarding this matter.
