I tried the $5 ask a question thing, the answer were more yes/no and I would need to reach out to an attorney for more details. While chatting with the "attny" the chat kept wanting me to speak with them by phone (so they could charge me more). That was around July 9th, then July 17th they charged me $53. Today Aug 14 I called to cancel and they said they would not refund the $53 and would not be charged any further. So I said I didn't use it since the first day when I paid the $5 and good customer service would have refunded my $53. I don't need the service since my work provides legal counsel and they could have looked to see that last time I used their service and refunded based on that criteria. Rip off alert, they obviously do not care about the people trying the service nor their own reputation...$53 not worth it.

I am very frustrated as I asked one question and paid $5 for it. The Dr. who responded literally just reiterated that it could be what I thought it was and to go to an actual Dr. So obviously after having such a crappy response I never wanted to use this app again. This morning I received a charge for $46 and I had no idea I was even signed up for a membership automatically. I called and emailed trying to get a refund as I haven’t even used the service since I asked that first question and have no intention of using it anymore and they told me I was “ineligible” for a refund which I don’t understand. I’ve had similar instances with other places on occasion and they’re always happy to refund. Will definitely be writing a negative review if I don’t get my money back.

I asked a simple question that never got answered. I asked for the refund for the $1 they charge you to even ask questions. I look at my account, $46 taken out for my membership that I already cancelled. Ironically, I ask them how to properly cancel the membership and for a refund, they asked for $1 to answer my question. So obviously my membership was cancelled but why I received no refund is beyond me. Very dissatisfied. Would not recommend.

I gave a poor review and was then bombarded with emails and now understand why, so they could charge me for all my replies. The advertising quoted 5$ and I see my credit card has been charged 49$. Hello Robert,

Thanks for reaching out to us about this. We're sorry for any frustration that you experienced.

We would love to take a look at your account to see what happened. The Experts are usually only able to offer advice on a situation based on the information that they've received through troubleshooting with the customer. It may just be that the Expert needs more information about a specific fix that you're looking for.

It also sounds like you may have opted into the membership program, which we can resolve for you as well.

We've reached out to you privately to gather some more information. We hope to hear back from you soon.

JA and Samsung are useless. The latter does not want to provide service and the former contracts with them and rips you off. I am trying to buy a part from Samsung and their "chat" takes my information and then sends me to JA. Having been burned by them before, I want no part of that. The "JustAnswer" is to avoid Samsung.

Absolute rort. I have had the same issue as many people who have left reviews here - was told I was paying $5 for one answer (which, by the way, was so generic it was entirely useless) - turns out I've signed up to a VERY hefty membership of $72AUD/month, which has been debited from my bank twice now. I had no idea I'd signed up to this membership - I barely pay that much for my iPhone XS max bill - as if I would pay that for a useless organisation such as this! The response from the company to another person with the same issue as me is a total joke. I quote:

"The cost of the Full Membership, along with the details of the trial period, and of the £5 collected are outlined and displayed on the same page where you submit your billing information, just before you post your question. There is no obligation whatsoever, and the membership can be canceled at any time. An automated email is sent out 48-24 hours before the billing begins."

I'm sorry, I am an intelligent person and fully aware of scam websites, and I did NOT see anywhere on the sign-up page the details of the full membership cost/the fact I was signing up to this - if it was on the page it must have been in minuscule writing and attention actively drawn away from it. Additionally, I NEVER received an automated email before billing began - I simply had $72AUD taken from my bank account without me knowing. Stay away from this company, they are absolutely scamming people.

I wanted to ask a legal question and JustAnswer informed that I had to become a trial member for 5$ & I agreed & they charged me 5$ on my credit card. Again after 3 days I asked another question & again paid 5$ for trial membership. But after that for 2 months without my knowledge they took 46$ + 46$ out of my card although I didn't become their member.

Only in the 3rd month I knew that they were charging me 46$ per month & when I phoned them up they told me the membership fees are non-refundable when they were not supposed to have taken the membership fees as I had applied only for their trial membership & not their full fledged membership. However since I had disputed the 3rd membership fees through my bank, they did not take the fees. I think this is a scam & advise everybody not to give their card details for the trial membership as they will go on charging every month the full membership fees without informing. This is a big scam on unsuspecting people. Beware!!!! If possible I request JustAnswer to get back to me at **.

When I protested that I was not made aware of this I was told the information was somewhere in the fineprint. Hello Charles,

Thanks for getting in touch with us about this. We're sorry for any confusion.

In most states, HVAC/Furnace and waterline work are all conducted by tradespersons licensed in plumbing, this is because in a modern home, there is so much integration between heating, gas and water systems.

Regarding the charge, we'd be happy to take another look at your account to see what happened. If there was a charge eligible for a refund that wasn't processed, we'd like to make sure that that is handled for you.

Good - My dog got into some prescription medication at night and I needed to know what to do. The vet was prompt, courteous and answered my questions. Bad - I believed I had cancelled the trial membership until I saw a charge pop up on my credit card for $59 for automatic renewal. I got in touch with JustAnswer and they passed me around to three different people when I tried to cancel again. Each person had to review the previous persons conversation while putting me on hold and then each person was more insistent that I not cancel. It took over 20 minutes, me getting angry and apparently an act of Congress to cancel the "trial" membership. If you decide to sign up with JustAnswer, make really sure that's what you want to do.

What a waste of time, I wish I had read all the reviews before starting. I ended up wasting a week waiting for a so called expert to help me. When I originally asked my question the expert came in straight away, asked me questions about my problem and made sure to get paid and after that no response at all. I even explained to customer service I was stuck out on my farm nowhere near any town without this vehicle and they said my question would be high priority. Still nothing and I paid for unlimited questions and guarantee answer within 30 minutes. I waited a week. I changed experts. I was on high priority and still nothing. Many emails to customer service and they offered me a refund which I got but not the full 100%. I had responses from senior manager customer services and I explained to him I would rather fix my problem, not a refund and I never got another response.

I have to agree with most reviews. This is just a money grab scam, they possibly could help with a very simple problem but if it looks like it might actually take time to fix then no answers. I'm looking to invoice them for the time I wasted. It states very clearly guarantee answers within 30 minutes which never happened. Scam company with no conscience or moral ethics leaving people in need stranded. DON'T BOTHER WASTING YOUR TIME, EVEN AS A PAID UP UNLIMITED MEMBER I WAITED OVER A WEEK TO NOT GET A RESPONSE.

Please, please stay away from this website, it’s a scam. They start off as a trial for $5 dollars, but trust and believe you will find a $46 dollar charge on your credit card or whatever payment method that you used. These people won’t answer any of the questions that you ask correctly and will take a while to get back to you. And when you try to cancel or get a refund they give you the runaround and lie to you when you call and tell you that the payment has failed when they know full well that they charged you.

Contacted them about an issue with the truck I had. Signed up for a $5 7 day trial. Cancelled the plan after 4 days (7 day cancellation cut off). Still got charged $41 for the answer. The answers were kinda on topic, but didn't help me, the issue ended up being something else I found myself. I did leave a good review to mechanic for trying and left him $10 tip. When contacted JustAnswer for refund they acted as I paid for the service and nothing is being refunded to me....even though my plan was cancelled and I didnt receive the correct info. I have never set the price to pay to mechanic, they just paid him $41 because they decided it's what they deserve I guess? They really confuse you with their pricing (membership / vs pay per answer) and it becomes very foggy. Putting in fraud claim with credit card now.

I simply wanted help to fix my AC pump. So I typed in the question, and was warned this would cost $5.00. I should have known better, but I went ahead with it anyway. After all there were 50 some representatives online, so I should get a quick response... But a day or two later, I got a reply saying they would be glad to help. What is it that I want. I HAD IT ALL EXPLAINED IN THE FIRST CONTACT! And just that quickly I see I got charged $30.00 some for his reply. I knew there was no way I could pay this much for simple communication, so I stopped then and there. Not long after I got a call from my Credit Card company wondering about possible fraud they saw on my account. I told them it was fraud, but I admitted it was my fault for letting it go this far. I now know not to waste my money on them! And if you are willing to spend that kind of money, take it to someone who actually can help.

In the Philippines. Not that an overseas location is the kiss of death all of the time but it is in this case. Most untrustworthy with small print, charged me after I said the "advice" was unhelpful. One thing about overseas companies is that language can be an issue. The "expert" was certainly not an English language expert. If you are looking for a reasonable approach to a "contract" to take money from your account automatically, this is not the place. I consider this fraud! I said I was dissatisfied after the session. This should be enough to cancel my account. Another fact to drive you crazy is that the supervisor is busy with another customer.

ALL the supervisors are busy with another customer. Lockout from the chat window, the ontological hiding of clear contact. Yes, it is the nature of being for a fraud to make obscure contact after they take your money! A revolting experience and another overseas company that has no expertise, unable to understand the English language clearly and obscurity of clear contact. Avoid.

If I'm sitting there telling you that I had to get a new card because it was fraud like and I would like them to refund the money I don't understand why that was so hard to just comply with. I am happy with the content and the expertise. However, it's not that easy to cancel your trial period! Other similar sites that I have tried, have one button, press and you're done. That gives me more degrees of freedom and confidence on the site, making it a site I want to use. It's taken me hours of interaction with the help on line, chat, etc. I'm still working on the trial period cancellation. This is too cumbersome and time consuming. The advantage and attraction of these sites for me is to be able to sign up and cancel the service any time without jumping through many hoops. This is a bait and switch. I have read a long string of other reviews where the same thing happened to others as happened to me. JustAnswer responds to many of them saying about the same thing, that they're sorry about confusion with membership terms or payment terms. It seems they should maybe clarify that better on the front page before you commit to the first $5.00 charge. I feel like I was scammed as well. In my own case they were unable to come up with an answer for me after a couple days of searching but proceeded to charge me the $5 plus another $46 to the best of my memory for a month's membership I didn't ask for and that I received no service during.

In short, I was charged $53 bucks for nothing. I disputed the charge with my credit card company and they fought the dispute and forced me to lose that money in exchange for nothing at all, since it's "all in the fine print" and was all "available for me to find and read" somewhere on the site. I was conned out of my money by a deceptive site and received no service. Beware.

Updated on 08/01/2019: This is a continuation of a previous complaint. I contacted the company with a potential problem with my wall oven. They did not respond until I complained and they stated they did not have an answer.. About a week later I heard from one of their Techs with an answer. He asked me to give him a good rating which I did. Not for the service but for his reply.

They then billed me $5.00 which was an introductory offer and in addition billed me $28.00 in June then again in July. When I complained they cut me off and said they would not bill me for additional payments for membership which I never agreed to in view of their failure to perform. They advertise that if one is dissatisfied with their service they would refund their charges. They have failed to do this and when I contact them they have responded curtly and state their supervisor is busy and can't talk to me. This is a scam and I do not recommend them. They try to appease me by telling me they will extend my membership for a week. That is humorous as I never agreed to a membership as they never performed as advertised.

Original Review: I submitted a question about my oven which I was concerned may have a possible fire hazard. I never heard back from them even though they promise an answer in 24 hours. When I did not hear back from them I contacted them again and told them their service SUCKS. They admitted they did not know the answer. However about a week later I did get a email from a Tech who seemed to know what he was talking about.

I had signed in with a $5.00 offer and they billed me $28.00 in June and again in July. I never agreed to a membership and especially when they failed to perform within the terms of their advertisement. I am willing to pay the June fee but not the July amount and have protested and requested they credit my credit card for the amount. Their response was that they cancelled my membership which I never approved or agreed to and especially when they failed to perform as advertised. I have submitted a dispute to my bank to not honor this charge. Walter **

This was a waste of my money, and right away they tried to upsell me, asking for $28.00 to talk on the phone with a vet! What did I get for my $5.00...not dang thing, except some crap trying to tell me my pet was in serious trouble health-wise!!! What a load of crap!!! I want my money back!!!

    Hello Richard,

Thank you for getting in touch with us about this. We apologize for any confusion. There are a lot of free sources of information on the internet however JustAnswer has never been one of them.

In order to keep the site functioning and make sure that you're able to speak to a licensed vet online, the fee for using the platform is necessary. If you bring your dog into a Vet in person, the Veterinarian is likely to charge an office visit fee that is significantly higher than ours. Bringing your pet in may also be difficult if the Vet is far away or the animal is large or in significant pain.

We do hope that you were able to get the information that you needed to take care of your dog.

If you need any further assistance or have any questions about the site, we're happy to help.

The amount you will charge after the trial should be clear and apparent, not hidden in fine prints under 5 pages rules and regulations.

    Hello Ken,

Thanks for letting us know about this. We're sorry for any frustration.

We would definitely like to look into this a little bit more because the membership information should be pretty easy to find.

If you're on a membership, we send out several notification E-mails when you sign up with the charge amount in them, we also send a payment reminder E-mail 3-days before billing. You can also access the membership details form the My Account section of the website. Finally, if you are on a membership, the details are extremely easy for the agents to find and communicate.

It might be that the agent that you spoke with was new, or needs additional training but we're happy to take a look.

Just be sure when you "Just Ask" that you know that the minimal charge ($5.99) for your question is not the whole story. Unless you cancel, it obligates you to a "FREE" trial for 7 days, which you need to cancel or you'll be charged the $53.00 membership fee. To be fair, they do state this, but when one is under the stress of needing an answer quickly (ONE ANSWER) this info can be easily missed. Also, the lawyer had bit of an attitude in her request for more information, with a backhanded insult of stating that my request to know 'my rights' implied I didn't "want a lesson on the Constitution, so could I be a bit more specific?" It was after her request for more specific information came up that a message stating something to the effect that I could get more information for more money.

    Hello Paula,

Thank you for letting us know about this. It sounds like you've been dealing with a frustrating legal situation so we're sorry to hear if you encountered any extra trouble on our site.

Just to clarify, the 7-day trial membership is $5.00 and is not free, we do not use any terminology to imply that the service is free anywhere on the site. As you mentioned, the membership is mentioned on the payment page and in other locations. We also send out several notifications about the membership via E-mail and we send out a payment reminder e-mail 3-days prior to the next billing in order to give plenty of time to take any action.

It sounds like you may have also seen an offer for a phone call. The phone call does come with an extra charge but is by no means obligatory and you can continue the conversation in the online chat for no additional charge.

We're happy to take a look at your account and the conversation with the Expert if you need any further assistance.

It's a bait and switch. You start with a person who seems knowledgeable and personable, but if you pay extra for a phone call, you get a different person entirely, who may not be as good. My phone call was with a retired lawyer who quite obviously didn't give a ** who simply directed me to go read online resources. And don't be late cancelling the trial membership...I apparently a couple hours late (after they'd charged my card) and could not get them to refund the fee.

Would love this to be the answer to not being able to find what you want online by asking experts - however it's simply not the case. I asked an Expert Lawyer a simple question on JustAnswer, and their response was, "you need to contact an expert lawyer!" and for the privilege of 30 mins of my time they charged me £5. No problem you think, as it's allegedly a fully refundable membership deposit but what they don't advertise is they don't refund it for 30 days according to T&Cs.

The next con with JustAnswer.co.uk is that once you start chatting with the lawyer every single response shouts at you to persuade you to do a call rather than a chat and for this they will only charge you a further £43 to talk to them. Unbelievable really! Glad I didn't pay £43 to be told by phone as well that "really I should be talking to an expert lawyer". As with most companies like this you can't easily email them as everything is sent with noreply email addresses forcing you to login and hunt for answers taking up more time that you wanted to save by using them in the first place!

    Hello Oliver,

Thank you for letting us know about this experience. It seems like there may be some confusion about how the site operates.

The per-question deposits are refundable for UP TO 30 days. This means that as long as you contact us within 30 days of the deposit posting, are unhappy with the service, and you haven't received an answer, we are happy to refund your charge.

The Phone call offers are automatic and are an optional service that some customers find to be very useful especially when conducting a conversation about representing oneself in court as there is a lot of nuance and detailed information that is necessary to pull that off correctly.

After that they charge me $53 as a monthly subscription which I am in no need of. Speaking to the support team they just reply with "you are not qualified for refund". I mean every company understand this and based on the usage they refund. But this company is not at all cooperative. They did not even sent a reminder email or text before deducting money.

If that is the money making model they rely on then they better shut their business. I thought I had a great experience earlier and will come back to use (subscribe again of course) again when needed. But right now I don't need it and hence would want them to refund the money but they clearly do not intend to do so. This is the customer's era my friends at JustAnswer. If you can't satisfy or treat a customer nicely you will not suffice for long and will reduce to a money making con company instead.

It doesn't sound like you ever used the site or spoke to an Expert about this issue, it seems that you might be upset that there is a charge to speak to a certified professional plumber.

There are a lot of free sources of information on the internet, however, JustAnswer is not one of them. In some cases, the manufacturer of the product will offer free support for the product as long as it's still under warranty, that might be the best solution for you if the toilet is indeed still under warranty.

After giving him more details, he said by text that this would be much easier over the phone, for an additional $26. I replied complaining about this and he failed to answer.

In the meantime I emailed the "friendly" person who was my initial contact and told her I wanted my membership cancelled immediately. "Okay," she said, "I will pass that request to my supervisor, who unfortunately is out of the office now." You get the picture. There was a method to dis-enroll on their website but it failed to work. Next day, I received an email telling me I was dis-enrolled, as well as messages from the expert telling me to update the info about my problem, which I ignored. Unsolicited, they refunded the last month payment. Because I could not remember using their service at first I asked them to show me what question I'd asked. They sent it and it wasn't even a completed sentence. So, I asked, given that I never actually used their service, if they could refund all three months? They did! In the email they said I had clearly not intended to use the service so they would not charge me at all. How's that for good customer service? Oh, and all of this - the cancelation, emails, refunds - took place in a matter of hours, even after hours. Given this experience, if I DO ever need their service I will not hesitate. I had nothing but praise for Just Answer the last time I used it but this time they have changed the whole platform so now it is very frustrating to get their help. I went on their site and filled in some info and then was asked to pay a fee and I thought I was speaking to a person who could help me with my problem only to find out I was speaking to a bot although they showed a picture of a woman. Then when I thought I had finally gotten a real person come to find out I had gotten another bot and they wanted more money.

After getting so frustrated I decided to end this bad adventure. I get an email from them so I thought maybe I will get somewhere now so I followed the email only to have to put all my info in again. Then to make it worse they didn’t help me with my problem. So now I have to try to cancel the service because you can’t just pay for one service. Instead you are signing up for a monthly plan. I have been looking for a way to cancel but so far I haven’t been able to find it. Also while using the service I kept getting pop ups to call them but they said it’s not them and not to call them! It definitely sounds like you had some navigation issues when you came back to the site this time. You should have been able to use your old login credentials and get right back into your account instead of needing to come through the homepage like a first time user.

This is actually really easy for us to solve. Please reach out to our Customer Care team at http://ww2.justanswer.com/help and we should be able to get you squared away. You can reach via Chat, E-mail or Phone, whichever is easiest.

Wrongfully advertised themselves as "Microsoft" so when I reached out to what I thought was Microsoft office support I was asked to put in CC details. After that, the cancellation link for cancelling a membership did not work ten times. The agent came online and told me the "cancellation link does not work and stop clicking on it." They collected $1 for not answering any question and not doing anything. They should be reported to the relevant authorities for scamming.

I tried this and got some great info from a good old boy. Very knowledgeable Toyota mechanic for $26 plus I tipped him $10 for his great help. What I also got was a $34 additional charge for a monthly membership that I didn't sign up for (knowingly). On their webpage, which I late explored, there is a "How much does JustAnswer cost?" question. They do not answer the question but instead state the after a trial period you will be billed. This is a fraudulent practice. So I called and canceled (since their chat session is inoperative) and supposedly I will be refunded my $34 and my account canceled. They seemed fairly responsive this way but probably because they don't want to be taken down by the FCC.

    Hello Kurt,

Thanks for letting us know about this. We're sorry for any confusion about the payment for the site.

The membership charge is presented to all customers on the payment page prior to entering any billing information. After the question is posted and the membership is agreed to, we send a receipt E-mail, as well as a payment reminder E-mail 3-days prior to any recurring billing.

It seems that all of these messages might have been missed. The FAQ page doesn't list a flat cost per question because the cost varies based on the category in which you post your question. Legal questions have a higher cost than Automotive questions, etc, etc.

I called saying how I was completely unaware of the extra charges they would charge me and they would not give me refund. So be careful with the extra money they charge your card because no refunds are apparently possible for this website when now I am sitting here with no membership. Don’t need a membership and paid 55 dollars for one question.

The website itself is terribly laid out with tons of busy and confusion extra junk that distracts you from getting "just" the answer. They have a fake AI bot customer service chat that is constantly popping up that is not only completely useless but is also very distracting and annoying. The process of getting an answer and getting connected to the expert was terrible and also very confusing with lots of junk email with ads for other services and an "assistant" which had nothing to do with my question. Trying to communicate with the expert was also clunky and confusing as they added other "experts" to the page and the email instead of the one that was actually answering my question.

After trying to cancel my trial membership, I was again forced to deal with the AI bot which never actually did anything to cancel my membership. I had to spend 20 minutes on the phone with them just to cancel it! What on earth would make a company force people to spend almost 30 minutes just to cancel a trial? The only reason I give it even one star is because the expert did actually help me with my question. That is literally the only thing about my experience that was good. It's amazing how they could get the execution of the site and service so wrong and yet still connect you with knowledgeable experts. The hassle is seriously not worth it though.

    Hello Adam,

Thanks for reaching out to us about this. We're sorry for any confusion.

The $5.00 deposit is for the first week of the service, this covers any question posted during the first week. After the week-long trial, the month long membership begins and this allows you to continue using the service as needed and gives you access to Experts in over a dozen categories for one monthly charge.

It sounds like the E-mail that you saw was the receipt and membership notification E-mail, and as you've observed, you can opt-out at any time and we've got a very generous refund policy.

I asked a single question about a specific computer problem. I received nothing more than I could get with a few Google searches. I thought I cancelled my account shortly thereafter, but apparently not. My Visa bill for this month showed a $46 charge to JustAnswer. In reaction, I tried to cancel the account online, but couldn't due to unavailability of an online supervisor needed to complete cancellation. I was instructed to phone JustAnswer. Once connected by phone, cancellation was difficult and I was given considerable runaround and options to extend my membership. Finally, I was told that my single question, if the account was not cancelled within 7 days, would be rolled over automatically to a $46 on-going membership. I didn't understand any of this when asking the question and was completely unaware, although I was told on the phone that it was described in Terms and Conditions.

Beware when you think you are asking a simple question. What you get and what it costs can come as a surprise. The answers are no better than you can get on your own and getting out of this billing mess of on-going charges is something you don't want to deal with. Their business model seems unethical to me, but you be the judge.

I got on JustAnswer to ask a legal question and was charged 5.00. No problem. 6 days later I was charged 46.00. I received zero emails about billing me 46.00. This is deceptive and all you have to do is look at all the reviews on multiple sites stating they were charged without knowledge. I want a refund. I have already cancelled this "membership". I don't mind paying for question, but it definitely wasn't worth 46.00. I received an email about my cancellation and now put the money back into my account. Thanks.

I never would have figured it out without his help. He told me to get back to him after I ordered the part to make sure my problem was fixed. Well, it was, and I talked to him the next weekend to say thank you!

I thought this in and of itself was deceptive, going from $5 to $52, but I agreed to it so I'm not complaining about that. I then see a $28 membership fee on my credit card. I had no idea I was signing up for any type of membership and have no need for it. I then cancelled but am stuck with the $28 wasted fee. Obviously they are trying to take advantage of people.

    Hi there S,

We're sorry for any confusion. From what you've described, it actually sounds like you didn't sign up for the membership.

When you come to the site, if you opt into the membership trial, the first question is only $5.00, however, if you don't opt to take the membership, the first question is charged at full price. This is explained on the billing page where you entered your PayPal information.

We also send a receipt E-mail detailing how much you have been charged, to what billing amount, and what the membership status of your account is.

We're sorry to hear that it sounds like you missed this messaging.

We're sorry to hear that you didn't find the first response from the Expert to be helpful. In these cases, we suggest to customers that they continue the conversation, the same way that they would if talking to the Expert in person. The Expert doesn't know what your level of experience or technical understanding may be when you first come to the site, so they will typically start the troubleshooting process with the easiest steps first, and move to more complicated solutions as warranted, if the customer feels comfortable working on their machine.

If you still need help with the mower or would like to reconnect with the Expert, please reach out to us by replying to us here, or sending a message from the Help Page

The quality of advice you receive does seem like a hit or miss depending on who you get. But, when it worked, I was so, so, so grateful to be able to only pay less than or around $100 total and get answers/guidance ASAP (less than 10 minutes) instead of booking an appointment with an attorney for a week later and pay $300.

I've used it six times total. Four out of six of the professionals I spoke to was excellent. And I like it that you can see the person's full name. It makes me feel very reassure when I can google their name and easily see they're a legit professional in their field and have good reviews for their own business. I've spent close to 400 so far on JustAnswer, but the help I received and the speed that I received it, was probably worth more than $1000. I would totally recommend it or use it again!

At this point a customer service person starts to try to sell me on the product all over again. I told her I want nothing to do with your service. I just want my money back am I getting these cancel membership that I thought I had done the first night. She tells me that I hadn't canceled it and the questions she asked me made me very suspicious. She is obviously answered many calls like this. I come to find out didn't you can't just cancel your membership you have to cancel a membership and then answer a bunch of questions and then they ask you again if you want to cancel your membership and you say yes and then asked you to confirm it. What a freaking joke they made it as difficult as it possibly could be to cancel their membership. This thing is a scam from a membership standpoint and well the answer I got seem to be quality. I accidentally came across this site when trying to get appraisals for artwork. So I tried their 7 day trial membership for $5. The service was pretty pathetic and I did not want to continue with it. The site has a 100% money back guarantee claim, but I thought it's just $5 and let it go. Fast forward 7 months and I check my bank account statement today to see these people have been duping me of $28 every month. Now let's be clear, no one ever asked to take the monthly membership or even more laughable to have the membership on automatic deductions.

So yeah I just found today that I lost $200 because of this fraudulent site. I contacted them regarding the issue and they so graciously stopped 'future' membership and oh so conveniently dismissed the previous payments as if it's my fault. Please advise me where I can take this issue up further. $200 may seem nothing to them, it is however a lot of money to steal from unknowing innocents cleverly preyed upon without their consent.

Make sure you cancel your membership within that seven day window they give you. They are counting less-than-responsible people - like me - to forget to cancel. Lo and behold, I paid $48 dollars for one question. They don't give any reminder that your trial is going to be cancelled - they give you a "your membership benefits" Email, which basically just says you're a member. If the free trial was in good faith, they'd send an Email informing the user that their free trial was about to end. Had they done that, I would not have left this review.

I called Cust service on May 8, 2019. First of all I did not realize that I was signing up for a membership. Also I called within the 7 days. The rep. refused to refund membership. I appealed to him & he talked to a supervisor. Answer was “we count the 1st day. No refund”. I asked if the $28 is worth the customer ill will and apparently it is...no refund to be issued. Very disappointed that this company is dishonest regarding the 7 day trial. Even if you do count the first day, I still called within 24 hours. My recommendation is to stay away from this company, I know I will be.

Day after my $5 trial, I went to my account, clicked on "Cancel" membership. Left site. Kept getting emails, so checked a week later to find my membership was NOT cancelled and I had been billed $46! I then tried to cancel again and found that after hitting the "cancel" button, a delayed "chat" session opened in which I had to answer a series of questions before they acknowledged that my membership was actually cancelled. This was 2 days after the $5 week had expired. I wrote them about the problem cancelling and requested my money back, and was refused. How many people does this happen to where a $5 trial turns into a $46 membership even though they try to cancel? Hitting the cancel button should cancel the membership, not lead to a prolonged chat session.

I checked my inbox AND my Spam Folder and had not been emailed by justanswer.com since I first called them and gave them my CC number in February. Unless you go over your CC bill with a magnifying glass, they are able to charge your card for several months before you discover the charges.

The SCAM is that they know psychologically you were upset about your pet when you called in the first place and that you will forget about getting charged, especially if you DON"T get a newsletter or any kind of billing statement. They rely on that and are very "well trained" and righteous about their "business." What pieces of garbage, that they make their money by Deceiving and Extorting from Pet Loving Americans. Regardless, the presentation is basically an obfuscation of the fact that they are nicking you for $28 that you had no intention of spending.

The fact that their voicemail prompts include an option - "if you were not aware you were getting a membership" pretty much tells the tale. They replied with message saying that while many answers appear in 10 minutes, some may take up to 24 hours. I replied to this message by saying I had now waited 48 hours. They sent reply saying they have automatically cancelled my question. Huh? They did not however cancel my charge. STAY AWAY.

I am embarrassed to say I got scammed by this site. Though I was extremely careful about reading everything on the screens, the navigation was confusing and I must have agreed to a membership even though I didn't want one. A few months later I realized they were still charging me a fee of $32 US. Sure, their "expert" answered my question, but I would have paid less money if I had just consulted a real person, in person, rather than being tricked into a paying membership. And I say "tricked" because I had no intention of buying a membership and I read everything on the screens. So their business model is clearly to confuse people with poorly laid out content/permissions in order to sign them up for monthly payments. Stay away!

I was NOT notified by e-mail. They claimed it was sent on March 11. I did not use their service until March 27? It was a tax question and I did not begin to work on my taxes until the 25th of March. Had no question to ask till then.

I am being charged for a month of service I did not use or intend to use; in fact didn't know I had the service. I am trying to cancel it and they will not cancel it until the May charge starts. I called Saturday evening to cancel it; was told I would receive an e-mail immediately verifying it was cancelled; did not receive it. I called again this afternoon, was told the May service was canceled and they would send an e-mail immediately. Did not receive the e-mail again. A company interested in promoting their business would cancel the month charge when they can plainly see I have not used the service. I am glad to pay for the service I used, but not willing to pay for a service I did not use.

I asked a computer question because my PC wasn't powering on, prompting me for a 5$ trial and the only answer I got was "Give me 37$ so I can connect remotely to your computer to fix your problem." Hellohoooo... It's not turning on, how are you going to remotely connect? After I declined that, just complete silence from their 'experts'. I don't think you are talking to any real people there until you cough up more money. And I get it, expert advice isn't for free, but in the end, I just coughed up 5$ for absolutely NO answer or help. I might as well just opened the window and made a paper plane out of a 5$ bill, that way at least SOMEONE gets something for it.

It's an absolute hassle to cancel and even though I cancelled my membership WITHIN the hour of opening it, there's no refund like they promise you when you sign up, no option, no nothing... Do yourself a favor, go to a real expert, these people just try to get some money from you with canned answers. Think "calling tech support", that's about the level of expertise these people have.

4/10/19 had a question so I applied for the $5.00 for 7 days. Was told I’d have an answer in 8 min. Here comes 2 hours later still no answer so I put in writing to cancel out my membership on the same day but 2 hours later. Finally about 5 hours later in my email there was an answer. This so called retired judge put words in my mouth that I never said. I only asked if a doctor can legally stop your narcotics cold turkey. My answer was, "You can sue the doctor". Never answered my question. I then answered the email they sent me. Told them I had cancelled out my membership because their so called retired judge is sick and never answered my question.

So this company in returned sent me an email stating that my account was closed and if not be charged the $5.00 and all future payments cancelled. Lo and behold today at 7:30am there is a $46.00 charge still pending. They had their 800 number listed so I called it. Was told there must be a quichein the system to tell her when I cancelled and how. I again explained and said by email to their office same place where I got the email stating everything had been cancelled. I found a $46.00 charge so I told her after arguing that I would contact a lawyer to get my refund. Tune changed. She did a total turn around. Said I’ll remove the charge since it’s still pending and send an email stating account is cancelled. I told her I’d NEVER recommend this site to anyone. I hung up. She did send the email stating the account closed and a refund given. Checked my bank and it was removed. So this site I’d never recommend to my dog if he had questions.

Lied how long it actually takes to get an answer. Takes your money even if you cancel. They don’t even answer your question. When you cancel they say there is a glitch. My suggestion stay away from this site. At least I did get my refund but I feel the only reason it was refunded ASAP was because I was going to contact my lawyer.

The canned answers provided by JustAnswer.com to the consumers herein cannot disguise the fact that services were/are lacking and billing practices mis-representative at best. Updated on 04/13/2019: After they responded to my first review I got curious and did a search in my email to see if there was a response to me canceling my membership - and by the way, they publicly responded to my review and acted as if they were gonna do something, but never responded to my private message giving my account info. But anyway, lo and behold there was an email that was In my spam folder back when I canceled my membership and asked to give me my money back that I did not know about them taking - I will post the response at the bottom and you can clearly see how this company works. They do not care and flat out tell you that you won’t be getting a refund for a service you never used! It’s shocking when your past experiences are with more reputable, honest companies - who will absolutely give you a refund if you didn’t understand about this membership and you do not want it.

The thing about this company is that they don’t TELL you about the upcoming $46 fee!!!! If you had $46 to ask a question to a lawyer then you probably have the money to get an actual consultation from an actual lawyer who you know for certain is a lawyer! So you’re not just taking money dishonestly, you’re taking it from those who don’t have it!!!! Taking $46 from a person who doesn’t have it can have an impact on their life, whether or not they can feed their kids that week, gas in their car, etc - here’s the thing, if you are upfront about taking money then you wouldn’t have this many reviews from people saying that they had no idea you would be taking MORE MONEY from them!!!!

The review speak for themselves!!!! Companies such as this is why people are skeptical of handing out their debit card numbers, because of dishonest companies like this! I’m posting the response in which I was told that I was not eligible for a refund - so apparently, that one question - where I asked what could I do in regards to renting a house that was infested with mold & a child hospitalized with ACUTE respiratory failure - cost me $51 - for an opinions!! Membership can be canceled at any time. "Meanwhile, I’ve taken a look at your account and unfortunately you are not eligible for a refund and I'd like to confirm that your membership was successfully cancelled on 3/29/2019. Moving forward, you will not see any recurring membership charges. If you would like to enroll in a membership in the future, please!!"

Original Review: I consented to the $5 - I was even pleased with the response, and thought hey, I could use this again! That was until a few weeks later and I was trying to figure out where a $46 charge came from and I realized it was them. I immediately canceled my membership - tried reporting it to my credit union, but they couldn’t do anything, so I emailed these people again and no response. I had a 7 year old in the hospital at this time. She sure could have used the $46 they took. They should be absolutely ashamed.

The immediate red flag came after I asked the question I received a reply that for an additional charge I could speak to the person directly on the phone. I chose not to. On that very day I attempted to cancel the trial membership and now one month later I see a $46 charge on my credit card.

I instantly called their customer service to ask for a reversal of the charge since I did try to cancel and was told me that the cancellation never went through and they do not reverse charges. Well how convenient for them that the cancellation didn't go through! I can only imagine how many other people have tried to cancel to no avail. If this does not sound like the makings of a scam, I don't know what does.

I had a car question, the person who answered my question was courteous and professional, but didn't know any more than I did when it came to my problem. He was basically looking in the same auto service manual I was. For 5 bucks it was worth a try. Then I saw a $30 charge on my CC bill. But figured it was probably something they lied about on being a one time 5 dollar charge. The next month it was $35. Of course they can see I used the service only 1 time on the night I made the trial question... but no refunds, Sir. Please. If anyone finds any other way to get the word out about this company, let me know. I will gladly post anywhere I can to let people know this business is a scam. I feel like a sucker falling for it. You really aren't getting a professional to help you. Like other posts have said, Google is going to do a better job than the JustAnswer criminals. DON'T GET SCAMMED!

Found out later they put me in a membership, and we're going to charge me a monthly fee of $34, I think I have it stopped where they cannot charge me again, it's very sad when you can not trust anyone anymore!

My 10-year old Kindle froze repeatedly. It was given to me as a gift, so I had no idea: 1) how to go about getting it repaired, or 2) if it was fixable. Plus, it had nearly 300 books on it that I didn't want to lose. When I went online & typed in "What do I do to repair a Kindle?" I was taken to a JustAnswer website. I read how I could get a trial membership for $5.00, & cancel it at any time. I was desperate to fix my Kindle, so I signed up, & asked online how I could get my Kindle repaired. The JustAnswer answerer advised me of several steps to try. He also asked me to rate his help. I told him I would & rated him immediately. When I tried to return to him to ask him "If these steps don't work in fixing my Kindle, what do I do next?" I couldn't get back on the site; I was locked out.

I complained to JustAnswer in an email, & I was given the opportunity to ask part 2 of my question to another answerer - what to do next, since the Kindle still wasn't working, after completing the recommended steps. The second answerer gave me the exact same steps to try, to fix it, which didn't work the second time around either. But I did get to ask, what do I do when these steps don't repair it. He gave me the Kindle phone number to call. (I did have the number written down, which I didn't realize until he gave me their number.) I ended up calling Kindle & buying a new Kindle. So the JustAnswer people basically gave me a phone number & that's all.

I did remember to cancel the membership immediately, before the trial period ended. But, when I got my bank statement yesterday, I saw a charge of $46.00 from JustAnswer, in addition to the $5.00 membership fee. I called JustAnswer this morning, only to be told they won't refund the $46.00, which he couldn't even tell me what it was for, or why they wouldn't refund it. I think it represents the cost of one month of membership, which shouldn't have applied, because I had canceled the membership immediately. The operator rudely insisted they had told me about this fee, but obviously they had not. I never would have agreed to pay a total of $51.00 to ask one question. This "service" is just one more online scam. I am going to call my bank to tell them not to let JustAnswer steal anymore money from my account.

    Hello Warren,

Thank you for getting in touch with us about this issue. We're sorry for any inconvenience or confusion.

In looking into your account it looks like you were in Mexico when you posted your question, as such, you were charged in Mexican Pesos. As we are a US company, the funds are then converted into USD with a conversion fee. Once the refund was processed, the funds were transferred back to your account minus a currency conversion fee that varies based on the valuation between the USD and Mexican Peso on any given day.

You were charged MX$950.00 and we issued a refund for MX$950.00, the difference that you ae seeing between the charge and the refund is due to this value fluctuation and any fees levied by your bank. Your CapitalOne card representative should be able to explain this to you as well.

I can't say I wouldn't recommend the site because the attorney I spoke with was super helpful and I rated and tipped him as such however funnily enough the website worked just fine until I went to cancel my membership. I agreed to the $5 membership with the full intentions of canceling it the same day unlike most who forget about it then are shocked when they're charged for the membership they SIGNED UP FOR. When you go to the page to cancel it asks for a reason why, all well and good EXCEPT the box flashes away and you're back where you started before you can type anything or hit the final cancel button.

If you can wiggle around until you find a way to cancel it (I can only hope anyway because the page after hitting cancel wouldn't load either) you're still stuck with the account, which has your card info, to delete that you have to contact customer service and you guessed it. There's a page error there too. Not my computer trust me. I cleared my cookies and had no issues there or on any other website all night until I went to start canceling things. I'm calling my bank in the morning to flag any more charges they may try to make but would only recommend if you're seriously in a bind and don't mind possibly losing about $40-50 more than planned.

I asked the phone rep how many times a day she has to deal with people who are upset about this exact scenario and she informed me that she didn't have to tell me that information. So A LOT then! Hello Kristin,

Thank you for reaching out to us about this. We're sorry for any inconvenience.

We do message on the payment page about the billing and the membership, and then the trial period is accompanied by numerous marketing and notification E-mails, including a billing reminder E-mail that is sent 3-day prior to the billing.

In looking at your account, I can see that you were able to call our Customer Care team and have a refund processed for the $46.00 charge.

Please reach out to us if you need any further assistance.

They told me the charge for the first sample use was $5.00. But after entering the credit card information, when I hit enter it rang up as $100.00! Then every email exchange with the lawyer exhorted me to make a phone call for an addition $59.00. The information I received was barely worth the original $5.

This is a very sneaky website. I PAID FOR A ONCE OFF ANSWER WHICH WAS NOT FORTHCOMING $5.95 and then there was an amount of $57.55 taken out for a membership I did not want or ask for. I am concerned about this very much and I will be contacting my Bank in regard to checking on this company's validity and why they could take out 57.55 without me wanting or needing this type of long term agreement.

This is total scammer's website, that tricks people into believing that they'll receive an answer to their question for $5. And then after you pay the $5 they ask not only they don't give any answers, but as soon as you give them your CC they say that if you wish to continue receiving help then you have to pay additional $39. And then after I shut it down, they bombard me with 1000 e-mails and in a few days I found additional unauthorized charge of $46 on my credit card from them. Anybody be aware of this scam and stay away from JustAnswer.com

I asked one question about a painting I bought. Before I know it, I am enrolled in a membership, which they did not divulge through an email or any type of notification. Their approach is very deceptive. I called today (3 March 19) to cancel my "membership." The customer service agent was nice, cordial, and very apologetic. I told her I would like a refund since they did not have my consent to sign up for the membership. I was placed on hold until she spoke with her higher ups. She came back to tell me because of my membership type she could not refund my money, a membership I never signed up for.

I hope JustAnswer needed my hard earned money for a membership I never knew about. They need to be upfront and honest in presenting these memberships to ensure that consumers do want it. I hope that my "membership" is truly cancelled. I thanked her for nothing. I will now go to different sites to lodge my complaints with JustAnswer. A visit to the Federal Trade Commission will be in order. They need to change their deceptive approach!

We signed up for the trial service and paid $5.00, which was immediately taken out of our bank account before we were able to speak with a technician. That same day we sent a note back to the company asking them to cancel our service. A week later I have an additional charge of $28.00 deducted from my bank account! What part of "no thank you" did they not understand? Now I will have to contact my bank and get it straightened out. With that said, the technician that assisted us with an electronic issue was extremely helpful and did a good job.

I took a 7 day trial which apparently gave 'Unlimited Questions'. After 4 days I don't have 1 even attempted answer despite the estimated answer time of 30 Min. They tried to sell me a phone call for a further £15. I don't know why they couldn't just say, "We can't answer your question" and refund me rather than attempt to get more money from me. I wish I'd given their fee to charity.

Tried to find a remote control for a Daewoo large screen I bought 2nd hand. Daewoo had gone out of the electronics business so I tried eBay and dozens of other stores. No help. Stumbled onto JustAnswer and didn't get any help just a debit to my VISA card for $65. No help from JustAnswer just something about I knew I was going to be charged $65. As a last resort I checked eBay and other electronics stores and finally gave up. I'm a wanna be mechanic so I thought I couldn't do any harm to the remote. Got some advice from a tech friend to open the case, use a cotton bud and mineral turps to clean the contact points. Got a bunch of dirt on the cotton buds. Did that and it now works like new. Kiss $65 goodbye.

I checked out the a terms of purchase and for the $26 decided it was worth a try. The mechanic was quick and thorough and even answered a couple extra questions. However his advice was based on absolute worst-case scenario. So while it was good to know what the worst case was it ended up not being that situation with my car. I would have liked to know a couple different scenarios that it could be instead of the worst one. -1 star for that.

The other issue occurred a month after my purchase. I was charged $41 for a membership fee by JustAnswer.com. The advertisement said I had a free 7-Day trial period but nowhere did I see that I would be billed automatically after the seven-day period. I disputed the charge and they did remove the membership fee after I argued and asked them to show me the document that I signed up for a membership. They could not show me a document but said it was on the terms of agreement. This is just plain bad business and customer service! Obviously they're trying to trick people into subscribing to a monthly service. If they were more upfront about it instead of hiding the fact, then it would not be trickery. However that is not the case. -2 stars for that.

    Hello Roger,

Thanks for getting in touch with us about this. We're sorry for any frustration.

The Experts on the website are only able to work with the information and requests they are given. If you are looking for information about a car issue with a different set of characteristics, the mechanics can field that question if you follow up with them.

We're glad to hear that the Customer Care team was able to resolve your account issue. The membership does continue billing after the trial in order to prevent a disruption in service. We do present the details of the membership on the payment page where your billing information is entered, and the information is also provided in an E-mail that is sent 3-days prior to the next billing.

If you still need any help, please reach back out to us.

I talked to a rep from this company and was told the 5.00 charge was all I would be responsible for... Twice. The question I asked was VERY specific and detailed. When the answer came thru it was obvious that the individual either did not read the question or had NO IDEA what they were talking about. The next thing I know they are charging me an additional 34.00 that I did NOT authorize. I will be reporting this to my CC vendor as a fraudulent charge.
