Website very unclear that this was a recurring charge service. After spending my $1.00 for a simple question, I canceled that service. Was never told by the customer representative that I was 2 days late to cancel. was charged $46.00 the following month. Did not use the service except for the 1 initial question (3 minutes of their effort to answer). A very expensive lesson. Complete rip-off.

I asked for advise about my pet chameleon and got an okay response but it wasn't anything that I couldn't get online after doing a little digging. I then asked for a second opinion and waited a day but never got an answer. Soon after my card was charged for the monthly membership that I forgot about till I was charged. I called that day to ask for a refund and to cancel my membership. Customer service was extremely pushy and told me many times that I could not be refunded and tried lowering my payment or offering me other deals. The rep even spent a long time explaining the benefits of their service. I insisted that I wanted a refund and was told that the contract that I "signed" by signing up said no refunds... probably in fine print somewhere in their terms. I demanded to speak to a manager and the representative was very persistent that his manager would not refund me after I demanded to speak to her several times.
Finally after making some threats like giving them a bad review (doing that anyway) and threatening to sue (?) I finally got my refund... ANY company that does not refund a customer for a service that they never used and called the day they were charged (charge hasn't fully been hit my bank yet) should not be in business! If you care about your customers that little then I don't get why you have customers.

I signed up for the $5 7 day trial, i asked my question and got a pretty quick answer. I went back to try and ask a follow up question, which i was able to for $5 deposit and then $31 after the question was answered. So the $5 7 day trial is now up to $41. Then i messed up and didnt cancel before the 7 days was up and i'm out another $46. Then it's going to take you at least a half hour to cancel so if you're at work it'll eat up most of your lunch break. Don't fall for it!!

They answered my question quick in April 2019. I cancelled this account the same day they answered my question. In June they took 46.00 out of my bank account. I went back and forth with customer care, until I got Mia, very rude. She told the money was not taken out of my account, I sent her a picture of the money taken out. I have not heard anything, but she closed my case. Will I get my money back??

This is a scam - I ask the question and never got an answer - after waiting 45 minutes to an hour. When I ask the question I was quickly sent to the site to enter my credit card information - saying it would only charge a dollar. Then I ask the question and no one answered. This is a scam and the FCC should investigate this site. Do not use this site.

I had signed up for just one question for 5$ trial account. And just today I noticed a 34 $ charge on my account. They just extended my account to monthly membership without even explicitly notifying me that they are going to charge me for an extended membership when I did not even want it. Talking to customer care is another nightmare as they would not even acknowledge that they are deceiving their customers in this way.

I got on JustAnswer to ask a legal question and was charged 5.00. No problem. 6 days later I was charged 46.00. I received zero emails about billing me 46.00. This is deceptive and all you have to do is look at all the reviews on multiple sites stating they were charged without knowledge. I want a refund. I have already cancelled this "membership". I don't mind paying for question, but it definitely wasn't worth 46.00. I received an email about my cancellation and now put the money back into my account. Thanks.

Finally, I tried JustAnswer, and a mechanic told me how to test the window switch. It turned out the problem was on the driver's control, not the in the passenger door. I never would have figured it out without his help. He told me to get back to him after I ordered the part to make sure my problem was fixed. Well, it was, and I talked to him the next weekend to say thank you!

Hi there S,
We're sorry for any confusion. From what you've described, it actually sounds like you didn't sign up for the membership.
When you come to the site, if you opt into the membership trial, the first question is only $5.00, however, if you don't opt to take the membership, the first question is charged at full price. This is explained on the billing page where you entered your PayPal information.
We also send a receipt E-mail detailing how much you have been charged, to what billing amount, and what the membership status of your account is.
We're sorry to hear that it sounds like you missed this messaging.
Please reach out to us and let us know if you need any further assistance.

I asked a simple question about removing a nut from a shaft on a lawn mower transmission. My answer was lock shaft to where it doesn’t move and use impact wrench to remove nut. DUH!!!! That answer cost me $91 so far. I’m sure they aren’t done. I would have given them no stars but that’s not possible.
Hi there Steve,
Thanks for letting us know about this.
We're sorry to hear that you didn't find the first response from the Expert to be helpful. In these cases, we suggest to customers that they continue the conversation, the same way that they would if talking to the Expert in person. The Expert doesn't know what your level of experience or technical understanding may be when you first come to the site, so they will typically start the troubleshooting process with the easiest steps first, and move to more complicated solutions as warranted, if the customer feels comfortable working on their machine.
If you still need help with the mower or would like to reconnect with the Expert, please reach out to us by replying to us here, or sending a message from the Help Page

I'm a new business owner in Georgia (U.S.) that need guidance or clarification sometimes. I gotta say that JustAnswer is really good and convenient to my needs. The quality of advice you receive does seem like a hit or miss depending on who you get. But, when it worked, I was so, so, so grateful to be able to only pay less than or around $100 total and get answers/guidance ASAP (less than 10 minutes) instead of booking an appointment with an attorney for a week later and pay $300.
I've used it six times total. Four out of six of the professionals I spoke to was excellent. And I like it that you can see the person's full name. It makes me feel very reassure when I can google their name and easily see they're a legit professional in their field and have good reviews for their own business. I've spent close to 400 so far on JustAnswer, but the help I received and the speed that I received it, was probably worth more than $1000. I would totally recommend it or use it again!

That was late at night and while I know I clicked on cancel membership I don't remember a ton else about it and I don't have a confirmation number so shame on me for that. But today when I saw the $46 hit my bank account I called JustAnswer immediately and told them there must be some mistake that I thought I had canceled, and ask them if they could just cancel membership officially in 1 month to give me my money back.
At this point a customer service person starts to try to sell me on the product all over again. I told her I want nothing to do with your service. I just want my money back am I getting these cancel membership that I thought I had done the first night. She tells me that I hadn't canceled it and the questions she asked me made me very suspicious. She is obviously answered many calls like this. I come to find out didn't you can't just cancel your membership you have to cancel a membership and then answer a bunch of questions and then they ask you again if you want to cancel your membership and you say yes and then asked you to confirm it. What a freaking joke they made it as difficult as it possibly could be to cancel their membership. This thing is a scam from a membership standpoint and well the answer I got seem to be quality. Then I guess by asking the question I joined JustAnswer, which was not my intention, but if you ask a question and pay the $5 you unknowingly join JustAnswer at $46 dollars a month. I was totally unaware that I was joining. After the second month of a bill of $46 I called to cancel. I got the right extension and talked to someone about what I needed. They said I would be next in line to talk to someone. After about 30 seconds the connection went blank and I was disconnected. I called again and asked for a different extension. Talked to an operator to cancel my unwanted subscription. I asked for a refund on my unwanted membership, but she said "no refunds", but my subscription will not run out until next month.

I would NEVER use this again. I thought I was paying $5.00 for an expert to give me advice, and I could pay more if I felt that the help was useful and accurate. I got a few emails saying that an expert had reviewed my question and would get back to me soon, then a different "name" appeared and asked the same starting questions all over again, and the result was I got "ZERO" results. Then a month later I saw a recurring charge of about $45.00 on my VISA card. I called JustAnswer customer service and they cancelled my membership but refused to reverse the charge. Fortunately CitiCards immediately responded to my dispute and reversed the charge.
Hello Joel,
We're sorry to hear that you were unhappy with your experience on the site.
The membership does pick up at the end of the trial in order to prevent a disruption in service. We also send several notification and marketing E-mails in the first week to remind customers to use the trial, as well, we send a billing reminder E-mail to each customer 3-days prior to the membership billing with instructions on how to administer their membership.
The Experts do often need to ask diagnostic questions in order to make sure that they have all of the appropriate details and context to trouble shoot a customer's problem. Sometimes the questions can seem a little bit repetitive.

I accidentally came across this site when trying to get appraisals for artwork. So I tried their 7 day trial membership for $5. The service was pretty pathetic and I did not want to continue with it. The site has a 100% money back guarantee claim, but I thought it's just $5 and let it go. Fast forward 7 months and I check my bank account statement today to see these people have been duping me of $28 every month. Now let's be clear, no one ever asked to take the monthly membership or even more laughable to have the membership on automatic deductions.
So yeah I just found today that I lost $200 because of this fraudulent site. I contacted them regarding the issue and they so graciously stopped 'future' membership and oh so conveniently dismissed the previous payments as if it's my fault. Please advise me where I can take this issue up further. $200 may seem nothing to them, it is however a lot of money to steal from unknowing innocents cleverly preyed upon without their consent.

Make sure you cancel your membership within that seven day window they give you. They are counting less-than-responsible people - like me - to forget to cancel. Lo and behold, I paid $48 dollars for one question. They don't give any reminder that your trial is going to be cancelled - they give you a "your membership benefits" Email, which basically just says you're a member. If the free trial was in good faith, they'd send an Email informing the user that their free trial was about to end. Had they done that, I would not have left this review.

I called Cust service on May 8, 2019. First of all I did not realize that I was signing up for a membership. Also I called within the 7 days. The rep. refused to refund membership. I appealed to him & he talked to a supervisor. Answer was “we count the 1st day. No refund”. I asked if the $28 is worth the customer ill will and apparently it is...no refund to be issued. Very disappointed that this company is dishonest regarding the 7 day trial. Even if you do count the first day, I still called within 24 hours. My recommendation is to stay away from this company, I know I will be.

Day after my $5 trial, I went to my account, clicked on "Cancel" membership. Left site. Kept getting emails, so checked a week later to find my membership was NOT cancelled and I had been billed $46! I then tried to cancel again and found that after hitting the "cancel" button, a delayed "chat" session opened in which I had to answer a series of questions before they acknowledged that my membership was actually cancelled. This was 2 days after the $5 week had expired. I wrote them about the problem cancelling and requested my money back, and was refused. How many people does this happen to where a $5 trial turns into a $46 membership even though they try to cancel? Hitting the cancel button should cancel the membership, not lead to a prolonged chat session.

Hello Barbara,
Thank you for reaching out to us about this. We're sorry for any frustration that you experienced.
The 7-day trial offer came after you posted your initial question and as is not retroactive, this is why you received the $73 charge.
For your reference, when asking a question on JustAnswer, a non-member customer is required to place a Good Faith Deposit that is equivalent to the price set for their question. The value of your question is set based both on its complexity and the category in which it was posted. Your question price was set to $73.
I see that you have utilized our self-refund tool today and processed the refund of the $5 partial question deposit. Please allow 3 to 5 business days for the refund to process, after which you will see the refund reflected on your account statement.

I checked my inbox AND my Spam Folder and had not been emailed by justanswer.com since I first called them and gave them my CC number in February. Unless you go over your CC bill with a magnifying glass, they are able to charge your card for several months before you discover the charges.
The SCAM is that they know psychologically you were upset about your pet when you called in the first place and that you will forget about getting charged, especially if you DON"T get a newsletter or any kind of billing statement. They rely on that and are very "well trained" and righteous about their "business." What pieces of garbage, that they make their money by Deceiving and Extorting from Pet Loving Americans. Regardless, the presentation is basically an obfuscation of the fact that they are nicking you for $28 that you had no intention of spending.
The fact that their voicemail prompts include an option - "if you were not aware you were getting a membership" pretty much tells the tale. I was NOT notified by e-mail. They claimed it was sent on March 11. I did not use their service until March 27? It was a tax question and I did not begin to work on my taxes until the 25th of March. Had no question to ask till then.
I am being charged for a month of service I did not use or intend to use; in fact didn't know I had the service. I am trying to cancel it and they will not cancel it until the May charge starts. I called Saturday evening to cancel it; was told I would receive an e-mail immediately verifying it was cancelled; did not receive it. I called again this afternoon, was told the May service was canceled and they would send an e-mail immediately. Did not receive the e-mail again. A company interested in promoting their business would cancel the month charge when they can plainly see I have not used the service. I am glad to pay for the service I used, but not willing to pay for a service I did not use.

I'm another one of that long line of people that had their money taken without any value from JustAnswer.com in return. I asked a computer question because my PC wasn't powering on, prompting me for a 5$ trial and the only answer I got was "Give me 37$ so I can connect remotely to your computer to fix your problem." Hellohoooo... It's not turning on, how are you going to remotely connect? After I declined that, just complete silence from their 'experts'. I don't think you are talking to any real people there until you cough up more money. And I get it, expert advice isn't for free, but in the end, I just coughed up 5$ for absolutely NO answer or help. I might as well just opened the window and made a paper plane out of a 5$ bill, that way at least SOMEONE gets something for it.
It's an absolute hassle to cancel and even though I cancelled my membership WITHIN the hour of opening it, there's no refund like they promise you when you sign up, no option, no nothing... Do yourself a favor, go to a real expert, these people just try to get some money from you with canned answers. Think "calling tech support", that's about the level of expertise these people have.
Hi Angel,
Thanks for letting us know about this. We're sorry to hear that you haven't gotten a response yet. We've sent a request for some account information so that we can take a look at what happened and make sure that we connect you with an Expert that can resolve your concern.
The additional services like Remote support and phone calls are optional, and some of the offers come up automatically and may not be generated by the Expert. You can still continue the conversation with the Expert on the website without an additional charge as well.

I fear that, like others, I will be charged a monthly fee for a "service" that I do not want. I have blocked this vendor on my credit card account, but worry that this scam company will find a way around that.

4/10/19 had a question so I applied for the $5.00 for 7 days. Was told I’d have an answer in 8 min. Here comes 2 hours later still no answer so I put in writing to cancel out my membership on the same day but 2 hours later. Finally about 5 hours later in my email there was an answer. This so called retired judge put words in my mouth that I never said. I only asked if a doctor can legally stop your narcotics cold turkey. My answer was, "You can sue the doctor". Never answered my question. I then answered the email they sent me. Told them I had cancelled out my membership because their so called retired judge is sick and never answered my question.
So this company in returned sent me an email stating that my account was closed and if not be charged the $5.00 and all future payments cancelled. Lo and behold today at 7:30am there is a $46.00 charge still pending. They had their 800 number listed so I called it. Was told there must be a quichein the system to tell her when I cancelled and how. I again explained and said by email to their office same place where I got the email stating everything had been cancelled. I found a $46.00 charge so I told her after arguing that I would contact a lawyer to get my refund. Tune changed. She did a total turn around. Said I’ll remove the charge since it’s still pending and send an email stating account is cancelled. I told her I’d NEVER recommend this site to anyone. I hung up. She did send the email stating the account closed and a refund given. Checked my bank and it was removed. So this site I’d never recommend to my dog if he had questions.
Lied how long it actually takes to get an answer. Takes your money even if you cancel. They don’t even answer your question. When you cancel they say there is a glitch. My suggestion stay away from this site. At least I did get my refund but I feel the only reason it was refunded ASAP was because I was going to contact my lawyer.

Our poor experience with JustAnswer.com mimics many of the negative experiences reported by many other users. Our question was submitted on 04/04, no answer has been received as of 04/11. For no service JustAnswer.com tried to charge $46 but fortunately our credit card company recognized a potential fraudulent activity and halted payment. The canned answers provided by JustAnswer.com to the consumers herein cannot disguise the fact that services were/are lacking and billing practices mis-representative at best. It's disappointing that such a promising business model be implemented in a fashion that clearly is unresponsive/does not help but rather takes advantage of people looking to better their own specific situations.

Updated on 04/13/2019: After they responded to my first review I got curious and did a search in my email to see if there was a response to me canceling my membership - and by the way, they publicly responded to my review and acted as if they were gonna do something, but never responded to my private message giving my account info. But anyway, lo and behold there was an email that was In my spam folder back when I canceled my membership and asked to give me my money back that I did not know about them taking - I will post the response at the bottom and you can clearly see how this company works. They do not care and flat out tell you that you won’t be getting a refund for a service you never used! It’s shocking when your past experiences are with more reputable, honest companies - who will absolutely give you a refund if you didn’t understand about this membership and you do not want it.
The thing about this company is that they don’t TELL you about the upcoming $46 fee!!!! If you had $46 to ask a question to a lawyer then you probably have the money to get an actual consultation from an actual lawyer who you know for certain is a lawyer! So you’re not just taking money dishonestly, you’re taking it from those who don’t have it!!!! Taking $46 from a person who doesn’t have it can have an impact on their life, whether or not they can feed their kids that week, gas in their car, etc - here’s the thing, if you are upfront about taking money then you wouldn’t have this many reviews from people saying that they had no idea you would be taking MORE MONEY from them!!!!
The review speak for themselves!!!! Companies such as this is why people are skeptical of handing out their debit card numbers, because of dishonest companies like this! I’m posting the response in which I was told that I was not eligible for a refund - so apparently, that one question - where I asked what could I do in regards to renting a house that was infested with mold & a child hospitalized with ACUTE respiratory failure - cost me $51 - for an opinions!! Membership can be canceled at any time. "Meanwhile, I’ve taken a look at your account and unfortunately you are not eligible for a refund and I'd like to confirm that your membership was successfully cancelled on 3/29/2019. Moving forward, you will not see any recurring membership charges. If you would like to enroll in a membership in the future, please!!"
Original Review: I consented to the $5 - I was even pleased with the response, and thought hey, I could use this again! That was until a few weeks later and I was trying to figure out where a $46 charge came from and I realized it was them. I immediately canceled my membership - tried reporting it to my credit union, but they couldn’t do anything, so I emailed these people again and no response. I had a 7 year old in the hospital at this time. She sure could have used the $46 they took. They should be absolutely ashamed.

Got the runaround. Said I wanted to talk to a manager but they would not connect me to one. They said they would have one call me within 15 minutes, they never called.
This is a very deceptive practice. They are not interested in the $5.00 dollars. They are interested in this $46.00 charge they add. I read that some people were told about 7 day cancellation rule. They wait till 8 days before they post charge. They said satisfaction guaranteed. I am 72 years old. I should not have to deal with this kind of treatment from a company. Not an acceptable way to treat a military veteran or anyone else.

This company is a big SCAM!! STAY AWAY!! I paid 5 dollars only to get a generic answer. Then cancelled my membership before the 7 day trial and was still charged 46 dollars. Call customer service. Both the representative and supervisor was very rude. So my membership is cancelled now after they took my money. They told me I need to send in proof of the date I cancelled my membership. But when I asked them to send me proof that I didn't cancel before 7 days they wouldn't do that.
Bottom line is this company takes 46 dollars plus the 5 dollars you already pay for a basic answer and won't give a refund. If they do this to everybody that signs up think about all the money they are making scamming people. Plus there is no proof this is really a professional or somebody just looking up answers. Lesson learned. I will be calling my bank and reporting this fraudulent charge. Also I am calling corporate to report the rude rep and supervisor. I thought I was getting good customer service, that I was paying $5 fee for a one time use. My question was answered & some of my money going to charities which I supported. Turns out they sneak in the terms & agreement that you're signing up for a membership?! So I was charged $46 & when I called for a refund I was denied. Watch your email when you sign up for this "one time" fee because they email you & you have to respond that you don't want the membership fee, otherwise you get charged!!!

Asked a question. The answer was a joke. They took word for word off companies Website. I already had that information. When I contacted them and told them I wanted a refund they said fine. Card was not charged and charges would fall off. I checked my bank account today. Not only is the first charge of $33.00 still there nows there is an additional charge of $35.00. I contacted the company and all I got was a generic email back that did not address the complaint at all. What a big scam.

My 10-year old Kindle froze repeatedly. It was given to me as a gift, so I had no idea: 1) how to go about getting it repaired, or 2) if it was fixable. Plus, it had nearly 300 books on it that I didn't want to lose. When I went online & typed in "What do I do to repair a Kindle?" I was taken to a JustAnswer website. I read how I could get a trial membership for $5.00, & cancel it at any time. I was desperate to fix my Kindle, so I signed up, & asked online how I could get my Kindle repaired. The JustAnswer answerer advised me of several steps to try. He also asked me to rate his help. I told him I would & rated him immediately. When I tried to return to him to ask him "If these steps don't work in fixing my Kindle, what do I do next?" I couldn't get back on the site; I was locked out.
I complained to JustAnswer in an email, & I was given the opportunity to ask part 2 of my question to another answerer - what to do next, since the Kindle still wasn't working, after completing the recommended steps. The second answerer gave me the exact same steps to try, to fix it, which didn't work the second time around either. But I did get to ask, what do I do when these steps don't repair it. He gave me the Kindle phone number to call. (I did have the number written down, which I didn't realize until he gave me their number.) I ended up calling Kindle & buying a new Kindle. So the JustAnswer people basically gave me a phone number & that's all.
I did remember to cancel the membership immediately, before the trial period ended. But, when I got my bank statement yesterday, I saw a charge of $46.00 from JustAnswer, in addition to the $5.00 membership fee. I called JustAnswer this morning, only to be told they won't refund the $46.00, which he couldn't even tell me what it was for, or why they wouldn't refund it. I think it represents the cost of one month of membership, which shouldn't have applied, because I had canceled the membership immediately. The operator rudely insisted they had told me about this fee, but obviously they had not. I never would have agreed to pay a total of $51.00 to ask one question. This "service" is just one more online scam. I am going to call my bank to tell them not to let JustAnswer steal anymore money from my account.

Well hold on, it gets better. THREE DAYS AFTER THIS SCAM, WE WERE CHARGED $69.59 AND HAD NOT HAD ANY CONTACT WITH JustAnswer OTHER THAN RECEIVING A REFUND EMAIL. I have now had to report this fraud to Capital One, put a stop on my wifes card and request another can be sent so these bandits cannot do this again. Hello Warren,
Thank you for getting in touch with us about this issue. We're sorry for any inconvenience or confusion.
In looking into your account it looks like you were in Mexico when you posted your question, as such, you were charged in Mexican Pesos. As we are a US company, the funds are then converted into USD with a conversion fee. Once the refund was processed, the funds were transferred back to your account minus a currency conversion fee that varies based on the valuation between the USD and Mexican Peso on any given day.
You were charged MX$950.00 and we issued a refund for MX$950.00, the difference that you ae seeing between the charge and the refund is due to this value fluctuation and any fees levied by your bank. Your CapitalOne card representative should be able to explain this to you as well.

I can't say I wouldn't recommend the site because the attorney I spoke with was super helpful and I rated and tipped him as such however funnily enough the website worked just fine until I went to cancel my membership. I agreed to the $5 membership with the full intentions of canceling it the same day unlike most who forget about it then are shocked when they're charged for the membership they SIGNED UP FOR. When you go to the page to cancel it asks for a reason why, all well and good EXCEPT the box flashes away and you're back where you started before you can type anything or hit the final cancel button.
If you can wiggle around until you find a way to cancel it (I can only hope anyway because the page after hitting cancel wouldn't load either) you're still stuck with the account, which has your card info, to delete that you have to contact customer service and you guessed it. There's a page error there too. Not my computer trust me. I cleared my cookies and had no issues there or on any other website all night until I went to start canceling things. I'm calling my bank in the morning to flag any more charges they may try to make but would only recommend if you're seriously in a bind and don't mind possibly losing about $40-50 more than planned.

This was not my intention and when I called cust-serv. they explained that it was not refundable and I was out of luck.
I had a simple question that was answered quickly and I agreed to pay $5 for. I did not agree to join as a member and pay a membership fee of $46 a week later. This is shady business practice and to not have a refund policy is even worse! It's like taking money out of the pockets of people without them knowing. Your fine pint and policy terms are despicable and I would caution anyone from using JustAnswer services as they may be the next victim. Their approach is very deceptive. I called today (3 March 19) to cancel my "membership." The customer service agent was nice, cordial, and very apologetic. I told her I would like a refund since they did not have my consent to sign up for the membership. I was placed on hold until she spoke with her higher ups. She came back to tell me because of my membership type she could not refund my money, a membership I never signed up for.
I hope JustAnswer needed my hard earned money for a membership I never knew about. They need to be upfront and honest in presenting these memberships to ensure that consumers do want it. I hope that my "membership" is truly cancelled. I thanked her for nothing. I will now go to different sites to lodge my complaints with JustAnswer. A visit to the Federal Trade Commission will be in order. They need to change their deceptive approach!

I would have liked to know a couple different scenarios that it could be instead of the worst one. -1 star for that.
The other issue occurred a month after my purchase. I was charged $41 for a membership fee by JustAnswer.com. The advertisement said I had a free 7-Day trial period but nowhere did I see that I would be billed automatically after the seven-day period. I disputed the charge and they did remove the membership fee after I argued and asked them to show me the document that I signed up for a membership. They could not show me a document but said it was on the terms of agreement. This is just plain bad business and customer service! I agreed to speak with them, and she transferred me. I had to give my credit card either before or after I was connected to Just Answer, I can't remember which, but they had my credit card number.
The individual at Just Answer, after I explained my situation, suggested he take control of my computer and work the problem remotely. REALLY? Needless say, I will file a fraudulent purchase with the card company and will hopefully get my money back. I will also advise Blizzard that they are referring their customers to an unscrupulous resource.

Company has reimbursed the monthly fees charged.
Original Review: Feb. 25, 2019
I was looking to have an issue with a car diagnosed. I paid for a trial subscription to receive an answer. Received answer, which I feel that the trial membership paid for. Little did I know "JustAnswer" is NOT a customer friendly site. They send e-mails regarding continuation of membership, however, IF YOU DO NOT RESPOND to the e-mail they will CONTINUE CHARGING YOUR ACCOUNT A MONTHLY FEE. Rather than having a verification from the customer to continue the membership, they do just the opposite. Although, this would be more customer friendly asking the customer to respond to a verification to continue the membership. However, by them continuing their business practices as such, I'm sure they REAPING the benefits of this practice. Mind you by the time you notice what is going on, they will not issue any refunds even though you have not visited the site since the initial visit.
Hello Ann,
Thanks for reaching out to us about this. We're sorry for any frustration that you experienced.
As you noted, we do attempt to make sure that customers are well informed of the status of their membership and their account as well as any questions they have posted on the site. We do send E-mails out each month, 3-days prior to next billing, as well as marketing E-mails encouraging customers to use their membership.
Much like other services that you probably subscribe to, Netflix, Hulu, cable, car insurance. The membership billing does continue after the end of the trial, and on a monthly basis, in order to prevent a disruption in service.
If you've got any other questions about your account or the site, please reach out to our Customer Care team. We look forward to hearing from you.

I got a serious computer virus and was looking for a remedy - these people asked for a $5 refundable deposit and credit card details. They asked which membership I would like - I exited the screen and they then charged $75. Do not give your credit card details to these people. Not coincidentally the same complaint has been lodged on the website and they have the cheek to defend this irresponsible and fraudulent behaviour.
Hello Peter,
Thanks for getting in touch with us about this. We apologize for any confusion.
We'd definitely like to take a look at your account to see what happened.
If you agreed to a Remote Support session in order to resolve the Computer issue that you were having, that might have been the cause of the charge. It might also be that you were not on the membership program, which would require you to pay the full question value once an Expert has responded and resolved the issue.
The charge amounts and details are disclosed on the page prior to any charge being processed and we also send receipt E-mails as well.
Please reach out to our Customer Care team so that we can look into this for you.

I'm charged 3280 again in February for no advice. This is a fraudulent payment charged from your company again and again. I don't have a membership and I want full refund of both 3280 charged twice. Not impressed with this service. I had an after hours veterinary emergency with a 9 yr old cat and just needed some answers to get me through the night, until I could take my cat to the vet the next morning. The Vet I got was critical - of me and of my regular vet - also very impersonal and used "cut and paste" medical information in his first response to me, not even addressing my actual concerns - just parroting back to me my cat's condition. I needed to belabor the point and press him for a relevant response. In his final response he criticized my regular vet and basically made me feel pretty lousy. I was going to let it go, and chalk it up to experience, but then he asked me to give him a 5 star review!
In the stress of the moment, I'm afraid I wrote back exactly what I thought of his "expert" opinion. Now when I research that question, since I've had numerous emails from JustAnswer saying that I need to view the responses from my expert, I find that they have removed my final written response to him, in which I clearly called out his unprofessional behavior and clearly stated how unsatisfied I was with his help. Any legitimate company will allow the negative feedback to stand alongside the positive feedback. That right there tells me to smell a rat with this company.
If they can't handle honest negative feedback and feel the need to remove it, then there's a problem. I paid my $5, and I have not been charged any other fees. But their thin-skinned reaction to my honest and legitimate negative impressions of this experience is troubling and should give prospective customers pause before they use this service. I now have to doubt all the glowing 5-star reviews on their site. My 2-star review shows up, but my written response to the vet is gone. That's a very bad practice. So I say, beware and use with caution and at your own risk. My cat, by the way, in opposition to this expert's dire predictions, is fine.
Hello Christine,

feedback isn't edited or removed unless the feedback doesn't help to progress the conversation i.e. expletives or personal insults.

Beware, this company and its owners are scamming unsuspecting consumers (a senior, in my case) in the worst way: offering a trial membership ($5.00), giving you 7 DAYS to cancel before converting to a full membership @ $46.00. In fact, JustAnswer's own website advertises that your trial membership "automatically transitions into a full membership AFTER THE 7th DAY". I signed up for the trial ($5.00) on 2/4/19, then cancelled same 6 DAYS later, on 2/10/19, per their advertised terms. I have documentary proof of my cancellation of trial membership on the 6th day, by my email sent to JustAnswer, which will be included in my complaint to the CA Attorney General, Consumer Fraud Division, Federal Trade Commission, BBB and any news media consumer watchdogs I can interest in this story, in the event JustAnswer does not immediately credit my credit card account for the $46.00 fraudulently billed.
Despite my having terminated my trial membership one day short of the advertised 7 days, JustAnswer went ahead and billed me for their permanent membership ($46) on 2/11/19, clearly a deceptive business practice and fraud. A further deception on the part of JustAnswer is that they claim to send out "at least one" notification email notice prior to their upcoming auto-renewal, which they never did - another lie and fraudulent representation on the part of JustAnswer. As anyone can see, this excellent service and website by Consumer Affairs is chock full of complaints by dozens, if not hundreds, of almost identical experiences of fraudulent billing practices on the part of JustAnswer.

After a week I did not pursue the matter any further, although I did notice attempts on the part of JustAnswer to maintain a semblance of continual dialog. None of the 'experts' seemed to have all the information I continuously was inputting. I was just happy it only cost me $5.00.
Well a week went by and I was getting ready to pay my car insurance when I noticed more than half my deposit was gone! I called my bank but they said since I accepted invoices (the $5.00) from this merchant before, I had to go to them for a refund, not my bank for a dispute. I immediately emailed JustAnswer.com explaining I didn't have enough for my car insurance, it was unintentional to sign up for a membership AND I never received a warning that this so called free trial was expiring. I wrote back very angry and of course they still won't budge! Their responses are condescending and "nothing we can do"! I've had the same experience as so many others on this review website. I paid $5 to ask a question with the understanding that the $5 was for a one-week trial membership. The "expert's" answer indicated he didn't really understand my question (I admit my question was rather complex). After a follow-up exchange with similar result, I decided not to pursue the matter further with JustAnswer.
A month later when I received my credit card statement, JustAnswer had charged me another $28 for a full membership, which I know I didn't purchase and did not push any button on their website to do so. Upon calling JustAnswer, they agreed to cancel my membership but refused to refund my $28 stating it was already entered into their system and therefore was non-refundable(?).
The supervisor told me their terms were: if I didn't cancel membership during the one week trial period - they automatically billed $28 for the full membership. This seems a rather backward way of signing up customers. I don't want to use the word SCAM - but this certainly is not an honest way of doing business! The supervisor said my only option was to "extend" my membership further at a better price (LOL). I said his only option was my writing this review.

An answer was given, but very generic, like made by a computer program (robot). Not real expert living people. So, answer not responded correctly. Then charges of $34 will appear monthly without your permission. Called their customer service, they say, "You are responsible for those charges because you signed up for a membership." Refund never received. In my case, I lost $141.00 and no correct answer received. Check BBB.com they state "This business receives a high volume of complaints." Complaints on file stated consumers pay the $5.00 question fee but are later charged additional amounts. And BBB.com is only publishing 25% of this business’s complaints online!

JustAnswer.com used to be a good place for cheap, quick answers to basic legal questions. Now it's a scam site. Deceptive practices. If you agree to pay ANYTHING more than the basic, the site automatically "rates" the "expert" a five-star (involuntarily on your part, you have no say at that point). Also, the "experts" are working attorneys and do their best to get you to go to offline discussion, then give you their normal hourly rates ($250/hrly or more) if you want to continue. Have heard it was a good, fast, cheap way to get legal questions answered. It was. Now it's a scam site. You CANNOT trust any "reviews" of "experts" as they're fake (the site "reviews" the attorneys for you, at five-stars, prob to up the site's ratings). Scam/deceptive site. Find answers somewhere else.

Others notated that they were told they could get a question answered for 5 dollars and then were charged more money later without their knowledge. I would like to confirm. I had the issue as of 2/7/2019 so this is still their practice. I am actually giving them two stars because the Nissan expert was very helpful and gave me the information I was looking for. Unfortunately they are in no way transparent about their pricing which is a ridiculous practice for any company that is trying to run a legit business.

Spoke with a fellow who insisted he didn’t read the terms of use and was automatically entered for membership. No matter what hubs said this man kept insisting we were wrong. The fellow barely understood our language, was impossible to speak with. I sent a written message to JustAnswer, waiting for a reply. We notified the CC company of fraud. This is a giant migraine. This is very shady practice for people that are supposed to be in the business of truly wanting to help. I will be contacting my bank to stop/prevent them from taking any further money from me. I cannot believe I was suckered in. I saw they had the BBB symbol at the bottom of their site, I guess that was just to give a false sense of security. Do NOT give your card information to this site!

When I contacted them the 5th time someone finally told me I had been cancelled because I had too many usages. That struck me as odd since not long ago they told me I wasn't using it enough and I needed to post MORE questions. My take is my monthly fee wasn't enough money for them so they simply cancelled me with no notification or warning. I am spitting mad. IMO they had a contract with me that they decided not to honor so I'm out UNLESS I want to pay more.

To be fair, I have used this site in the past and experienced no difficulties. My latest experience, however, was different. It has been a while since I've posted a question, but this time around, my encounter with JustAnswer proved to be less than seamless. Initially, the answer that I received, suggested that my initial question had been incompletely or hastily reviewed. Eventually, I was referred to a link that, ultimately, didn't specifically answer my questions. After noticing that the mechanic's response was off the mark, I could not find a way to communicate my response, so I opened a previous window in order to try to re-ignite my discussion with my representative/mechanic. Apparently, this resulted in my submitting a duplicate question and an additional charge, subsequently waived.
After my mechanic asked if I had any other questions, I mentioned that I wanted to know how to cancel. I was informed that my inquiry would remain open unless I entered a rating of 3 stars or greater. To me, this sounds a little bit like extortion. It is not my aim to receive a refund of the five dollars charged to my credit card (to which I am apparently entitled to receive). I simply want to make certain that no further charges will be levied against my card. I have no doubt that the majority of people utilizing JustAnswer, have positive experiences, but a dedicated search of online reviews suggests that this site has its share of limitations and that it might not be suited for some people.

Avoid at all costs. These people are super shady. I needed help with a legal question. They said, "Get an answer for just five dollars!" So I paid. Then, as soon as you get the answer, they go, "SURPRISE! - you were just charged another $31 on top of that, for a total of $36." Ok, whatever, I'll swallow the bait & switch because I need the answer. The answer I received was extremely generic, by the way - just two super broad, super short sentences with no nuance or real explanation (think, “No, you can’t do that. Thank you”). All the while, they're trying to upsell you - pay this much, pay that much, and I said no to everything. I just wanted my answer.
A week later, I have an additional, unauthorized charge in my account for $46! I contact their customer service via chat and they claim I signed up for a "membership". Not true. I ask for a refund, saying I never authorized this, was not notified in any way, and declined all their extra upsell offers. The person tells me only their supervisor can give me a refund and they are not available. So I try again and pose as a new customer trying to buy something - surprise, the supervisor is available!
I get constant resistance about the refund. "But you signed up for our membership sir!" I say, "No I didn't. Give me a refund." "But life is full of questions, sir!" "Give me a refund." "But our service bla bla". "Give me a refund." On and on. They eventually offer me a 30% discount if I stay. Give me a refund. And on and on, making it really hard for me to rectify things. Don't give these people your card. I'm on the lookout now for any future charges they may try to sneak through.

On December 23, 2019, after I googled a problem I was having with my Mac, I initially thought I was being taken to an APPLE partner site. When I saw that they wanted to charge me $64 for an answer as well as a $5 charge for something else, I knew I was in the wrong place. So I immediately contacted their chat help, explained to them what had happened, and asked them to please cancel these charges immediately, which they said they would do. I asked them to please email me immediately to confirm that the charges were canceled, which they did. What they didn't mention, however, was that, although they would proceed to cancel those charges, I would later be SUBJECTED TO A MEMBERSHIP FEE OF CA$84, WHICH IS, IMO, OUTRAGEOUS.
FURTHERMORE, THE MEMBERSHIP CHARGE WAS NEVER EXPLAINED TO ME BY THE HELP DESK CHAT. I may have unknowingly signed up for it WHEN I thought I was on an Apple-related site and that it was free, but no one ever told me that I had purchased a "Free" membership that would auto-renew on December 29, 2018. Nor did I get an email 3 days prior to December 29th (as their website says I should have) informing/warning me that it was about to auto-renew and would cost me CA$84! As I got NOTHING from them in the way of answers or help, I would have emailed them to cancel that charge immediately, as well!
I did however receive two emails from them on CHRISTMAS DAY (which was 4 days prior to the Dec 29th date), but, again, neither mentioned I was about to incur a charge of $84 CDN. This is an egregious and deceitful business practice that should be illegal, as it basically entraps unsuspecting prospective customers with misinformation, using language designed to obscure, obfuscate and redirect their understanding of the "free" aspect of the account so they can fraudulently charge them for a "membership," a few days later. How do these pirates get away with such outrageous and surely illegal practices?

I have used JustAnswer several times since they began. I had truly wonderful experiences at first, then a couple of satisfactory experiences. This time, it has been a nightmare from the start, although they have a few more days to fix it before I will demand my money back and never use or recommend JustAnswer again. What an incredible pity!
For example, one new thing that astonishes and disgusts me is the rating and reviews of the experts. While waiting for a phone response from my assigned "expert" (which never came), JustAnswer AUTOMATICALLY GAVE HER 5 STARS. The website says "You rated 5 stars. Thank you. Write a review or give a bonus". I contacted customer care and told them I never did -- and never would -- give her 5 stars, and they told me this is automatic, and cannot be changed! Good grief, then there is no point whatsoever to their "rating" system.
So I wrote a little review expressing my disappointment with her non-service and submitted it. I NEVER SAW MY REVIEW AGAIN. I asked Customer Care how do customers get to see the Reviews of the Experts, and they told me that we can NOT see the reviews! Again, then what is the point? I tried to express this to Customer Care but these non-English-speakers could "care" less.

I was looking for answers. I posted a question to my browser. This site is the first on the list. Going to "Just Answer", I am offered a chat session with a tech assistant. I am asked questions about my issue. The presumption is that I have a problem that I want solved, not that I want answers (site name notwithstanding). The chat isn't with a real person, it is a bot. I answer a few relevant and a few irrelevant questions and am then promised an agent for "answers." But first I need to pay $5.00. This is a surprise, but OK, it is just $5.00. But we forget it is a weekly charge. I go ahead and approve the charge.
After a short while I receive a notice that an "expert" is ready to help. This person asks another question that I’ve already answered and without reading my answer asks if I want him/her to connect to my computer. I indicate no, but I am again faced with the need to approve a charge of $39.95. Never mind that I don’t allow those I do not know free access to my foundation computer, I have to ask, what is this person’s expertise? If I am going to open up foundation files to this person, shouldn’t that person pay me? I believe people are innocent until proven guilty, but there can only be two possibilities: we have a fraudulent computer expert or we have a thief. Either way, this is not good.
Hello Thomas,
Thanks for getting in touch with us about this recent visit to the site. The remote connection offer is an automatic offer that comes up and can be closed by clicking on the 'X' in the upper right-hand corner of the offer modal.
Most of the time, depending on the nature of the issue of course, computer issues can be resolved quicker if the technician working on the problem has access to the machine, but the remote connection offer is not obligatory in any way.
We've sent you a request for some more information that will allow us to locate your account and resolve any outstanding issues.

Was charged $46 after the $5 7-day trial. Didn't know I had to cancel. When I asked for a refund, they basically said "too bad so sad." Typical trick, only normally it is a free 90 day membership then ripoff for not canceling. These guys have stepped it up a notch!!
Hello Ricky,
We're sorry for any frustration that you encountered.
We do send out several notification and billing E-mails during the free trial reminding of both the benefits, and the upcoming billing.

Several weeks ago, I signed up with the $5 trial fee to get an answer to an unbelievably simple question about my oven and try out this service. First, I was asked repetitively to answer the same basic questions about model, age, etc of appliance that I already answered. I was NEVER contacted by a technician or received a response of any type to my question.
Next I got a survey asking how the service was, which I filled out in detail, with no relevant response. All the responses are "canned" and reflect no real reading of my actual message. Ultimately, responses ranged from "it can take time to answer a complicated question" to "we'll try to find you a different technician" but I've still never heard from anyone in response to my question. All I got were daily promos for their service and more surveys. Mixed in with these was a notice on Christmas day that my regular fee would begin immediately. I was out-of-town and wrote the next day to cancel and ask that no fee be charged, under the circumstances, referencing my previous emails. I've now been told that's "not possible" but I can pay per service in the future if I choose! Obviously, it's "possible" but JustAnswer has opted to keep my money and not even respond to my first question.

Called about a serger, got a mechanic. Got no answers but lots of charges to my credit card. Called them on it and they refused a refund. I am so angry... this is a sham! They did cancel my “membership”, which I didn’t sign up for but refused to refund the many charges they made to my credit card. It was advertised to pay $5 to answer a question, which they did not do. I am very angry about this. They suck you in if you ask a question, they automatically charge a membership fee and a bunch of other fees, which I was unaware of. DO NOT TRUST THIS... they are dishonest!

We are in the same boat as all the other dissatisfied customers. We ask a question and was charged $5.00 AU back in September, we did get a reply saying they could not help me with the request so for $5.00 thought it was all done. We did select cancel the subscription on the link they sent us but they never did. They kept on charging and we have no record or the cancellation. We have been charged for 4 months now so we have had to put a dispute to credit card facility to get our money back.
