Nearly every single time I have searched for reviews of products on CA, the CA reviews don't come anywhere close to actual consumer reviews! Check out the 3.8 rating they gave to "Gentle Dental"--then count the actual reviews in every tier: 5-Star (3), 4-Star (0), 3-Star (0), 2-Star (11), 1-Star (80). 80 1-Star reviews! 11 2-Star reviews! No 3-Star reviews! No 4-Star reviews! And a measly 3—THREE—5-Star reviews! Do I seriously need to do the math for you? Okay—fine! (80x1=80) + (11x2=22) + (0x3=0) + (0x4=0) + (3x5=15) = 117/(80+11+0+0+3) = 117/94 = 1.2. Gentle Dental's Average Rating is actually just 1.2 Stars! How do they even stay in business? But more to the point—how do you even stay in business?
Hi Tamara, Thank you for reaching out! A company’s “overall satisfaction rating” is a time-based weighted average numerical calculation of the ratings submitted by consumers in the most recent 12-month period if the company has received 30 or more ratings in the last 12 months. If a company has fewer than 30 ratings in the most recent 12-month period, we average all ratings received, including those from before the most recent 12-month period.

If Consumer Affairs is supposedly for consumers to know the truth, why wouldn't you allow my story to be heard? There was NO PROFANITY in my post, IT WAS NOTHING BUT TRUTH! This was my first hand experience with this company, and Consumer Affairs wants to deny my review? I find that a little hypocritical and completely wrong (AND POSSIBLY ILLEGAL). I read a few posts from other Consumer Affair reviewers and they were complaining of the same issue. The only difference is, Consumer Affairs responded after the reviewer asked why this had happened, and they ALL SAID THE SAME THING! That the mediation department refused to publish the review because there were too many NEGATIVE REVIEWS! REALLY CONSUMER AFFAIRS????
You have this information pasted right before where a consumer would complete their review, as follows: "We want to prevent one-star experiences for consumers and brands. Our business model is set up to support this mission". Well it definitely isn't trying to protect the consumer in any way when you refuse to publish A REAL LIFE INTERACTION, BECAUSE A COMPANY IS GETTING TOO MANY NEGATIVE REVIEWS! What do you think that means???? Maybe the company isn't doing the right thing! What it looks like to me is that the companies who pay you top dollar (you guys call that, Authorized Partners) have you in their pocket and you guys might as well be THEIR puppets. Another business that is run by who can give them the most money! What happened to loyalty, integrity, and self respect? You guys are saying one thing and doing the EXACT OPPOSITE!
You should be ashamed of yourselves, if this is in fact the way Consumer Affairs is conducting business. Many people rely on this site to make decisions about doing business with reviews given on your website. If Consumer Affairs is standing in the way of negative reviews from being heard for their own benefit, it is wrong, in so many ways. We can only hope that the reviews given by REAL PEOPLE, with REAL LIFE dealings, between them and a business is incorrect (I highly doubt that people are sharing lies about their interactions with said business's).
I guess we will have to read the many reviews from other sites, that will publish THE TRUTH! From consumers about their real life dealings and their reviews, no matter if it is negative or positive. Then, and only then will each individual be able to decide whetehr or not Consumer Affairs is really doing as they say they are....

I came on your site to review your ratings of Pool companies in Clark County, Nevada. I recently had a very bad experience with Renaissance Pools & Spas in Clark County. When I try to enter their name and offer your subscribers an opportunity to hear about my experience, your page won't accept their name in the "What company are you reviewing?" box. I then noted that Renaissance Pools & Spas is one of the pool companies you recommend and that companies pay you a fee for that listing. That tells me that "Payola" from companies matters more than "Consumer Affairs." Too bad.
Thanks for reaching out. Maintaining a website like ConsumerAffairs requires a lot of work and unfortunately it is not realistic for us to include every company in America on our website. We choose to focus primarily on larger, nation-wide Brands to help as many consumers as possible. Because Renaissance Pools & Spas is not listed on our site, you are not able to leave a review for them at this time. You can see the Brands we do have listings for here https://www.consumeraffairs.com/homeowners/pools.html
ConsumerAffairs doesn't recommend companies, but instead helps provide consumers with the tools and resources they need to make informed decisions.

I recently rated Thrify Car Rental and Consumer Affairs shows overall rating as 4 stars for the past year. This is simply not factual. In the past calendar year from May 2020 to May 2021, Thrifty was rated 1 star 53 times, 2 star 1 time, 3 star 0 times, 4 star 0 times and 5 star 0 times. When you click on the graph it shows a majority of responses as 4 stars which does not jive with the reviews. Care to explain your methodology? When I looked at overall history, I stopped counting 1 star reviews after reaching 700. You are giving folks the impression this is a 4 star company when in fact according to your reviewers they are barely a 1 star company.

I doubt this honest and accurate review gets published considering it diminishes the integrity of the ones reviewing these comments. However if it does, I encourage you to go check out the rating of the USPS and see if it aligns with the comments and ratings. ConsumerAffairs states that they're a 3 star company according to over 2,000 (currently) ratings in the past year. This is the kind of situation that cannot be rationalized by a company spokesperson regurgitating an approved statement claiming some technical algorithmic explanation of this anomaly. The people who USE this site for credible information also have to use the USPS. This curious embellishment raises the question of why; is it because they pay for it or because they need to be protected in an effort to preserve?
Hi Cody, We appreciate your feedback. USPS is not an authorized partner and we have no relationship with them, ie they do not pay us. The 3 star average rating is not based on all 2,000 reviews it's based on the last rolling 12 months worth of reviews. These are genuine consumer reviews that have been left by consumers on their own accord and are an accurate representation of their experience.

ConsumerAffairs is paid by these companies. I've seen 3 companies where I look through reviews and see all one star complaints where these companies basically stole their money, yet it shows that the company averages 4 stars. Not sure where the good reviews are, all I can see is complaints. I also see some 5 star reviews that look fake like the company needed to get that average up so paid people for 5 star ratings. The fact that my complaints with pictures have to be reviewed by the company we are complaining about tells me all I need to know. This site should be to educate the consumer. When it takes money from the companies being critiqued, that's an obvious conflict of interest.

So, I'm writing this review about the ConsumerAffairs.com organization and how they do not communicate, do not reply to emails and do not provide a phone number. My first review has be stalled and each time I check on it, I receive a robo/canned email saying my review is under review. It really feels like they are blocking the review in favor of a really lousy organization aka Express Scripts. ConsumerAffairs called, inquired about my issues with AHS. The representative listened, then asked me to rate AHS which I did. I have no idea what the representative did after the call ended. However, AHS called me, assigned a person to me to specifically to resolve my problems. The AHS personnel then authorized that I call a repair person, fix the stove, and they will reimburse me for the repairs. The largest burner on my stove stopped working in February. I called AHS and paid the deductible for the repair on March 3rd. Four Sears workmen visited and several wrong parts were ordered and the stove was still not fixed as of August 31st. Because of ConsumerAffairs my stove has the correct part and was repaired in 1 week. Thank you ConsumerAffairs.

I used Consumer Affairs to file a complaint against American Home Shield Home Warranty company. My refrigerator went out and I had to buy a new one. American Home Shield is a good company for the most part, their customer service is just impossible to communicate with. I spent two weeks trying to get reimbursed for the appliance. I was on hold on 6 or 7 separate occasions for well over two hours each time (12 to 14 hours) without ever talking to anyone. They owed me $2,190.00. for the new appliance. I put my complaint on Consumer affairs and within 4 or 5 days AHS contacted me! A first! I had my check in under a week. It would not have happened without contacting Consumer Affairs. All my favorite stores in my town have closed. I'm at a loss as where to buy anything anymore. Consequently, I've been buying clothing and accessories online. I've been satisfied with most products from Amazon, but Amazon doesn't always have what I want. I'm skeptical of the quality of products I see online from vendors I've never heard of. I figured there needed to be a place where a person can go and read reviews from other customers about the quality of products and the service from online vendors.
I think ConsumerAffair.com is the answer. I've posted a negative review about an online purchase I made. A company representative contacted me and I have been given a full refund on that product. We not only need a place to resolve disputes, but we need a place to learn about company quality. I encourage other users to look here, if they are skeptical about online product quality and service. Now we all need to write the positive reviews for those vendors we use who are providing us with good quality products. Let's not just come here with complaints. Report the good news, too.

While using the Consumer Affairs website itself is straightforward enough, I don't find the reviews credible. It seems that somehow the companies who pay to be "accredited" have mostly great reviews, and those who don't have mostly terrible ones. That seems to be too much of a coincidence. I recognize that there's a place in this world for reputation management services, but Consumer Affairs seems to be posing as something very different. All the disclaimers on the site notwithstanding, it's at best potentially very misleading.
Thank you for all of your feedback! Reviews are collected in a variety of ways. For example, consumers can submit a review to us via an online webform. As part of the Authorized Partner Program, ConsumerAffairs collects reviews for Authorized Partners through a variety of means such as via email, phone, third-party consumer panels, and social media platforms, such as Facebook. Keep in mind, "Happy customers tell their neighbor, and angry customers tell the whole neighborhood." Because of this when you proactively collect reviews from an unbiased sampling of customers, we tend to see higher star rating averages.

I wrote a review a week ago relating to Western Union unethical business practices and the fact that that company was not refunding my money. I believe the only reason this matter was resolved timely, less than 2 days, is because of the review in Consumer Affairs. It had been almost a month that I had been having a challenging time with WU and it was literally 2 days after my review that I finally received my refund. I had no idea this is an almost immediate result-oriented forum but I'm very grateful. In 2015 I made a complaint to BBB about another merchant who pocketed my hard-earned money and refused to refund over $300. I even attempted to sue them but they were under some other third-party business entity which was not located. This is obviously where I should've made the complaint. I will definitely be utilizing this forum for any future conflicts but hoping it doesn't come to that.

Hi. Thank you for the feedback. We apologize for any confusion but the overall satisfaction ratings appear at the top of profile pages for companies, whether or not they participate in the Authorized Partner Program. These ratings are based on a scale of one (1) to five (5), with five (5) being the highest possible score.
Overall satisfaction ratings are calculated the same for companies regardless of whether they participate in the Authorized Partner Program or not and come from consumer ratings.

I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because it would be even more helpful to the consumer if Consumer Affairs used other means (fax, mail etc.) to reach out to the company to make them aware of a consumer complaint or issue. One company I wrote a review about has failed to respond and that review was posted in 2014. The most recent review I made got me a response from a decision maker within the company within 24 hours and got me a resolution in 48 hours. For those companies who care about their brand and retention rates I believe Consumer Affairs is an excellent source to turn to when there is a legitimate issue that could possibly be resolved and not just a rant. I would certainly use CA again if I have an issue with another company that couldn't be resolved through regular means.

This article https://www.consumeraffairs.com/solar-energy/best-solar-panels.html#author-profile by Kathryn Parkman is misleading. It implies that panel efficiency influences panel production. That a higher efficiency panel will produce more savings is a conclusion drawn in the very first sentence. It's just not true. The efficiency is in terms of SIZE. A more efficient panel is just smaller. For example, which panel will produce more? A 300W panel with a 20% efficiency or a 300W panel with a 18 % efficiency??? The answer is NEITHER because they are both 300W panels!! It's just that the 20% efficiency panel will be physically SMALLER...size is the efficiency measurement. Readers of the article will definitely get that question wrong...
Since higher efficiency panels cost more and don't produce any more power given the same system size, it's simply not true that there is more savings. Sure if you have limited roof space the higher efficiency panels may allow you to get more production from the same roof but in states like Florida there is plenty of roof space and often lower efficiency panels create more savings due to their reduced cost.

I am writing this review because I believe this is the only way I will here anything back from you. Is this page even legit?
Thanks for reaching out! We're sorry to hear you've been having trouble using our site. Consumer Affiairs only wants to pubish the 5 star reviews. I was called by Consumer Affairs, unsolicited. They said I could edit my review before it was published. Instead they published it verbatim and gave me NO chance to edit it. My issue with the company I was complaining about was later resolved and I wanted to reflect that in a better comment but Consumer Affairs does not allow you to edit your own review.
We apologize for any confusion, but we would be happy to help you edit your review! We will follow up with a private message to help you edit your review shortly.

I believe that this is an excellent way for people to share each other's experiences, positive and negative: and I believe every consumer should consider taking advantage of being able to do this. Thank you to ConsumerAffairs for these opportunities. They are appreciated very much especially from consumers like me.

"ConsumerAffairs" holds itself out as a "Consumer News" resource "For life’s important purchases." They say, "Our experts can help you find the best products and services across 3,000 brands and companies." But, they suppress bad reviews about their "authorized partners." When the reviews of the "authorized partners" (DexYP) are negative, they say this: "Our moderation team has determined this review does not meet our guidelines for publishing." This is illegal for many reasons. It violates the Sherman Anti-Trust Act. It is false advertising. It violates the alter-ego laws of dozens of states. It is interstate fraud. If you are the person tasked with deleting this post, Baumgartner Law has already saved it, we will be deposing you, we will get ever other deleted post, and we will represent you free of charge against Consumer Affairs and DexYP. Whistleblower statutes protect you. 720-626-9418. Ask for Birk.
ConsumerAffairs doesn't suppress bad reviews about authorized partners, or any company on the site. All reviews must meet our guidelines for publishing. But it is NOT shown when someone searches for the Bouqs Company at ConsumerAffairs.com. It does show other 5 star reviews up to Feb 21. Does my review at ConsumerAffairs requires permission or screening from Bouqs? If so, my review would not be viewed by other consumers who do their research with consumeraffairs? Thanks.

If readers are relying on Consumer Affairs to provide useful info so we can avoid bad AKC breeders then Consumer Affairs should name breeders and kennels.
