Ebates was honest. Rakuten is shady. Ever since it switched I'm not getting any cash back. Ebates was honest and my cash back showed up with each transaction within a short period of time. With Rakuten I'm using it correctly and no cash back is showing up at all in months. Shady to say the least! I do not recommend them and I'll be switching to another more reputable company. After reading all of the other reviews I know I'm not the only one.

I had no problem with Rakuten, up until the point that I tried to refer my Mom to the service. We live in the same household, and the first time she signed up she didn't have her own Paypal account and asked to use mine, so we got flagged. No big deal, I talked to them to make sure you can have more than one account per household then helped her make a new account with her own brand new Paypal account. Then a few days ago, a couple weeks after she made her first purchase, both of our accounts were locked. Flagged again. After trying to get some information from customer service, they just keep saying that due to the "high level of abuse" they have deactivated our accounts. I've tried multiple times to explain the situation and get some clarification on what constitutes as abuse, with the same copy and paste reply.
After reading through the terms and conditions, nowhere does it say that there can't be more than one account per household, although it does say something about being able to check addresses. I think we were flagged because we live in the same home, so we of course have the same address, although we have different bank accounts/income and everything. Long story short, all the cash back I had earned before I had referred my mom is now gone, although I'm sure they get to keep the money they earned off of my purchases. Very shady. Use a different cash back service if you can, or at least try to not refer anyone that lives in the same house as you.

Total scam. They make it sound easy to earn money on purchases and promote their "Refer a Friend" feature but as soon as you accumulate any worthwhile amount of cash back they arbitrarily reduce the amount just before the periodic payout date. If you want to jump through hoops to get an extra $10 or $20 in your PayPal every four months or so, Rakuten is good for that. But don't expect any significant amount of cash back and definitely don't waste your time referring friends because they won't honor the reward for you OR the friend you referred. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Rakuten is a joke and a scam. I'll be sure to refer my friends AWAY from this garbage company instead of helping them spam my friends by referring their email addresses to them. Steer clear.

I was excited at first to join this site as I do a lot of online shopping and thought that I could save some money. Little did I know that the amount of effort that it takes to get the money back is definitely not worth it. You have to keep track of your orders and follow up to make sure that you even get credit for the purchase in the first place. Then when you don't get credit and send them the information that they require to process that purchase they then want more information (or more detailed information) and tell you to contact the store for the additional information. Basically, too much hassle for all the more you get back.

I have a problem with my account. Every time I try to get help it is through a robotic service. Is there any way to talk to a human? I got an email telling me what I’d earned, but when I go to my account it is not there. I’ve tried several times and I do get an email telling me Kohl’s didn’t report to them, but when I try to reply, my email back to them doesn’t send. Very frustrating!!

Since Ebates got bought out by Rakuten, the payment has stopped. I had a definite $1400(August) &$700(September)+ and a $7500+ potential growth, but they froze my account, eventually terminating it without sending any payment I had acquired. Rakuten does not have phone number confirmation, so anyone can get the $10 by creating a new email address many times. This is wrong. I contacted customer services, they did not check my account and who are referred. But they terminated my account one-sidedly. It is clear that Rakuten is committing a fraud by using users especially if you have high amount cash back.

Every month I have to contact the company via email and send copies of my emails to verify my purchases before I get my cash back. I am still waiting on one $700 purchase that is supposed to pay 15% cash back. I have contacted them twice about this order. I feel that since the amount is large they are trying to find a way to discredit the order and not pay. I am looking for another cash back site that is more efficient and honest.

When I 1st started using E Bates you would get money back. It didn't make a difference which store you chose. Then I noticed you wouldn't get money back from Groupon and if you got in touch with groupon and ebates they will come up with excuses not to pay your money. It's still the same. If I order business supplies I get money sometimes. If from groupon you don't get any money back and they don't answer if you request money. So I've come to find getting money back from either Rakuten they will choose what money you get. If it's 2 or $3 you're fine. If it's anything more than that you will find you will not get your money back. I used to recommend E Bates to all my friends. Now I in good conscience can't do that because for the most part you will find you will not get your money.

Since Ebates has changed to Rakuten, I have had issues. I thought it was me doing something wrong until I read the other reviews. (That's how they made me feel when I got in touch with them.) I also have had problems getting money back for my purchases and recently I referred two friends. One friend had to fight for her $25 bonus and to get my Refer a Friend bonus as well. The second friend made over $700 in purchases and had to contact Rakuten several times. I also had to contact Rakuten several times. As stated by other customers on this review site, they won't check into it for you and make you do their job. They told me sometimes purchases take a while to catch up with the rebate... It's been over 3 months and neither of us have received our Refer a Friend bonus. I won't be referring anyone anymore.

I'd give this zero stars if I could. For many years I used Ebates. I never had an issue with them. My orders were always tracked and I didn't have to "police" whether or not they were tracking. The moment they switched over to Rakuten all I've had are issues. Not once has my order earned cash back and I am definitely using the site correctly. I had to contact customer service to try and get this remedied. Bottom line: There are other cash back sites which I plan on using from now on. They like to collect info on your spending habits but magically can't remember your purchases? I call BS.

I used to like the site until I realised that Rakuten wasn't collecting credits for my purchased items properly. I guess that's so that they don't have to pay out all of those so called 'BIG FAT CHECKS!' Anyway, when I found out I contacted them and they wanted me to do their job for them. It's funny how they're able to collect spending habits most of the time but this time there's a problem; this time they failed to do it. Rakuten wanted me to go thru all of my emails and collect all of the order numbers and send it to them in order to prove that I do have credit for purchases missing. Why would I have to do that when as I assume, it's supposed to be done by Rakuten? People, you need to check like I did to make sure you're getting the credit you're supposed to be getting. It's so not worth the few pennies for me, but I wanted to go on record saying that something fishy is going on!

If I could, I would give 0 stars for their service. Everything on the Rakuten website screams rewards whereas nobody cares about the customer’s shopping experience. I thought the ultimate goal of your company is the customer’s satisfaction before a reward percentage. On October 2nd I opened up an account on Rakuten.com and purchased 1 x “XPG SX8200 Pro PCIe NVMe Gen3x4 M.2 2280 SSD with Black XPG Heatsink". Next day, I received an automated email saying that my order has been cancelled with no clear answer why. Ever since then, I am trying to get in touch with someone to help me understand why my order was cancelled and why I cannot purchase the item again, but no luck.

I've been a longtime customer with many past orders and recently any new order I make is cancelled within 30 minutes automatically. I'm signed into my account, my payment details & address information is correct, stored with Rakuten and have not changed. I tried alternate payment method as well including PayPal with the same result. I do not have this issue with any other online retailers. You would think they would treat a repeat customer with more attention then ignore them with form email response. Overall very disappointing customer service & shopping experience. Whatever changed please change it back.

I've been using eBates since December of 2014. Pretty easy to use - go to their site first, go find the website you want to shop with, do your shopping, get a little bit of money back. One thing that's been happening more and more often is that cash back isn't being recorded to my account. So if I place an order, wait a few days, up to a week, and the money never posts to my account, and I have to fill out the "Where's my cash back?" form, or use the bot on their site.
This latest time I used the bot - it failed, so I had to go through the site and fill out the form where you paste the email to it. And I went ahead and did it for Peet's Coffee, because it's been a few days and I still am not seeing the money for that one. Also, if you want to use coupon codes, that sometimes negates the rebate. There have been plenty of times when the savings from coupon codes is way more than the cash back, so I just go for that. In short, if you're thinking of joining, skip it. It's really not worth the hassle.

I have used Ebates for many years without any issues. It was a great program. When Rakuten took over all of a sudden terms changed, and not for the better. It is nearly impossible to speak to a human being about missing cash back. After several attempts at emailing customer service, the one response I received was a "stock" response and didn't even answer the question I asked. The concept of the program is a fantastic one, unfortunately I have now stopped using the app all together and have advised the same people I recommended for it to do the same.

The Rakuten customer service reviewed my case and reinstated my account along with the cash back & referral amount. I still think, a lot need to improve on the customer service front. Rakuten tracks all possible information when you use their site for completing any purchase. It's all mentioned in the terms & conditions. After possessing so much customer data, they are still finding it difficult to identify the accounts which actually abuses their platform. I hope they improve their risk assessment programs so that regular users are not incorrectly flagged as users abusing their platform. They also need to update their terms and conditions clearly stating the scenarios for which they can revoke an account.
Original Review: Sept. 14, 2019
I have recently started using Rakuten. My initial experience using Rakuten has led me to believe that this is a business which thrives in cheating customers, abuse customer data and indulges in unethical practices. They ask customers to refer friends and family. When you do refer them, they will come up with creative ideas to deny you the referral amount. In my case, they denied me the referral amount and on top of it asked me to merge the account of the person whom I referred. When I told them that these accounts belong to two different person who shares the same address and I don't want to merge them, they went ahead and came up with more silly logic and closed my account. They say that they closed the account because of the "abuse" of their platform". From a customer's perspective, this is an abuse of customers data and trust. Worst of it all, they will not provide any reason or evidence of what they call "abuse of their platform".
Going through the reviews, it looks like Rakuten regularly uses this ploy to steal customer cash-back amount and deny referral bonus. I had around $30 worth of cash-back. I hope stealing $30 from a customer really enhances their brand image. Its good that I came to know that Rakuten as a brand cannot be trusted. God knows what they will do with all the customer data they collect from the subscribers.

I ordered products from a seller on Rakuten. The seller sent the wrong merchandise and I notified Rakuten. They reached out to the seller for me and also sent me the sellers information. The sellers Beauty Price Match and Buy Beauty Products are a rip off. DO NOT BUY FROM THEM! Not only has Rakuten not responded in the timeline they gave me to work this out, I tried calling and emailing the sellers only to receive a message that says "this site and phone # have been compromised". To a consumer that means they are fake businesses taking peoples money and not wanting to reimburse them when the seller is unresponsive.
The worst part is Rakuten is allowing these businesses to advertise and sell on their site when these companies are clearly in violation of Federal policies. Rakuten, who promised to keep in touch with me on this outcome, has now become unresponsive to me in the last several days. It is a sad shame that I have to reach out to Consumer Affairs and the FTC to investigate. This was my first and last experience with Rakuten, Buy Beauty Products and Beauty Price Match. I am on disability and am out over $155 that I may never see again.

It would be zero stars if that were an option. The customer service on this site is a joke. I tried twice within 24 hours to place an order for a TV. The first time, they confirmed the order and then shortly thereafter, canceled it because they said my phone number was incorrect. My phone number is fine and I’ve used it with countless other online merchants but apparently this wasn’t good enough for Rakuten. When I called their customer service number, the representative refused to update my order despite the fact that she had all the information in front of her.
She insisted I had to go back online and re-process the order which I did. I received another confirmation and figured this time everything was OK. Wrong. This morning I received another email, telling me my order was again canceled, this time due to an incorrect price. Rakuten uses a third-party vendor to for fill their orders, and this one decided that the price that was posted was not the price they wanted to sell it for. So within 24 hours, I’ve had 2 orders confirmed and the same 2 orders canceled. What a complete waste of time and effort on a company that clearly doesn’t get customer service.

First off I wrote a review on Rakuten.com and was emailed saying the review had been "moderated" and would not be posted to the website. So they only post positive reviews? This is exactly what I put on their site: The switch came and works wonderfully however it did not come with the extra joy-cons pictured in the bundle. I was extremely disappointed. I called BuyDig to straighten it out and they said it doesn't come with those controllers despite it being pictured in the image for the product and implied in the description. Needless to say I was disappointed and upset. Turns out not as great a deal as anticipated. Could have gotten it for the same price at Wal-Mart.
BuyDig was the seller on the site. They were not helpful and told me to contact Rakuten. When I contacted their customer service they did give me a 25 dollar credit but basically told me tough luck about what I thought I had purchased. They didn't even apologize until I pointed out how crummy their customer service was. I won't be shopping there again.

They kept sending me the same response over and over again which said that I was ineligible because I had received a few free books. This was ridiculous because I had never purchased anything at this point.
The discount was only $5! Any other company with decent customer service would have gladly given their customer the discount and found a workaround to the technical difficulty. Not this one. I ordered a radio recently from this company's site (the store was 123 Stores I think) and was not satisfied with it and wanted to return it. They said no problem but that I would have to pay for the return postage which would have been something like $13. To me that's absurd. Maybe I'm just used to AMAZON or JET or Walmart etc where they will pay for the return post. Anyway 123 REFUSED to do so so I emailed Rolaneil at RAKUTEN. He was FANTASTIC! Until they realize they can't and well, then it's on you. Customer service has promised me Rakuten points for inconveniences but have never delivered them. I have wasted hours of time and had many business problems because of this company. I would recommend that everyone avoid this company like the plague.

I just wanted to warn anyone who is considering to become a seller on Rakuten. Do not! Their customer service support system is extremely unsatisfactory. They do not have a contact tel. number or a live chat and the only way to communicate with them is through email. Majority of the emails, they reply the day after. Therefore, when you needed an answer, your task is on hold until they reply back via email. When they do reply, their information is very vague. A few times they had an automatic reply stated that the person is no longer with Rakuten.com and all inquiries to contact the new customer rep with an email address enclosed. They seem to have a constant turnover on their customer service people.

When I called them, they told me to call Andrew James who said they did not see my order. When I called Rakuten again they said they would look into it. I did not hear from them, so after a week more I wrote on their Facebook page and contacted their European CEO via LinkedIn. Finally, they redid the order but they did not offer any kind of compensation for the mess-up they caused and for the stress and time they cost me.

I still have not received any response from Rakuten.com through PayPal either. They take your money and have nothing more to do with you. After I sent my complaint to Rakuten.com they had the nerve to send me a survey to ask if I was satisfied, yet they did nothing to address or fix the problem. I purchase a $1700 HP Zbook 15.6", 8GB memory, 1TB HD from buy.com aka Rakuten.com aka datavision.com via Best Buy Marketplace. The HP zbook is defective. It freezes every time we tried to download a software or surf the web. We brought it to the Geek Squad who told us to return the item. Why purchase an expensive "defective" computer. We agreed. So, I have been trying to obtain a authorization number from Rakuten.com to return the item. I am on DAY 5. I have been calling Rakuten.com 2-3 times a day. This is what I get: "I apologize for the inconvenience." "Your issue is with the 'specialist' who is investigating." "Please give us 1-2 business days to investigate." "My supervisor is talking to the specialist to resolve your issue." "Your computer is over $1600. It needs an approval from the specialist to return."
What are they investigation? No one could tell me. What is their definition of 1-2 business days? Are they on the same calendar system as us? I have spoken to 4 male supervisors. None were helpful. I went to Customer Service at Best Buy in Danvers. They listened in to the conversation with the agents at Rakuten.com. The customer service manager tried to talk to them but they refused to engage in a conversation with her. In fact, the Rakuten.com supervisor hung up on the customer service manager. Well, it has been 5 business days. No resolution. I am still on hold after 45 minutes +. Waiting. Getting very frustrated and angry. There has been no resolution. I called Best Buy Corporate twice and have yet to hear of a resolution.

I used to have my account via Play.com (they were great) which was then transferred a Rakuten.co.uk. Worst thing I did was order off this company. It's just a complete mess with little or not organisation. I placed an order for a TV 4 days ago. My order at this point had the status showing 'awaiting shipment' for the 4 days. I sent 2x messages for a progress update and received not reply. I then called and spoke to the supplier direct as advised on the Rakuten website and they had advised me that Rakuten had cancelled my order due to possible fraudulent transaction. I called Rakuten who advised me that all was well with the order and that payment and order had been accepted? I called the supplier again who said this was incorrect and that they couldn't proceed as per Rakuten's instructions. Went back to Rakuten and they looked into it further and my order had been rejected due to their fraud squad red flagging my order.
The advisor of all things advised me to place the order again and exact words used 'hopefully, it shouldn't happen again'. In the end they couldn't resolve or honour my order. I called my Bank and of all things they confirmed that payment had been accepted and was pending. My bank advised me to speak to Rakuten and cancel this earmarked payment, providing me with authorisation code...again they couldn't do this and advised that as the order had now been cancelled the funds will be returned and not debited from my account. However the available balance in my account is now minus the amount pending so I can't even access my own money until all this had all cleared, which is going to be another full working week.
I wanted to log a complaint and spoke to a Debbie who gave the usual upstanding tone... I tend not to listen but judge on action, which is tangible. I asked to speak to her manager, who was apparently in a meeting with no end time. 3 hours on and no call. All I'm left with is to make sure the earmarked payment doesn't go through (4-5 days' time). Complete nightmare experience. If you like taking chances with your money (and sanity) then go ahead order from Rakuten but I strongly advise to stay well clear of this company. I can't even stand saying the name... After next week (fingers crossed) I'm done with this company.

I placed an order for multi-vitamins 11 days ago. I was really happy to have found a new website with great prices! The website was very professional, so it seemed like it would be a reliable place to place an order. In retrospect, I should have read some reviews first, because they are all bad (as I am reading them now).
After waiting 10 days to get my order, I received prenatal vitamins (I am not pregnant.) Hey, mistakes happen. I found the receipt in my email, and went on their website to see how to resolve this. Since there was no phone number to contact, I filled out the form. There are 2 options: one to receive a phone call within an hour, and one to receive email contact within 24 hours. The call I received was 3 hours later, when I was in a work meeting. When I called back, I was told that my order had been filled by one of their providers, and that I would have to call the provider. I would have expected the support rep to contact them for me to resolve the issue, or at least connect the call & facilitate it. That didn't happen. The support rep was also very frustrating to speak with, as she kept parroting back everything I said.
So now, after filling out the form, and already talking to someone who couldn't help me, I now tried a 3rd time to contact the provider to get the right vitamins. The gentleman who answered the phone was very polite and professional. Unfortunately, he was unable to help me. He told me that the order had been mismatched by Rakuten.com. The provider did not carry my vitamins, so they just refunded my money. Needless to say, having to make several attempts to resolve this, still not getting my order, and now having to place my order somewhere else has left a bad taste in my mouth. I will NEVER visit this website again...

I ordered dummy cameras to go with existing cameras. The product shipped out quickly. I received it two days after the order. Everything in one piece. Ok. Nice. That was May 20th. A week later, I noticed my card hadn't been charged. I'm an honest person. I call my bank and see if they have record of the transaction. Nope. I contact Rakuten, through the customer contact on the website, and they call back, leaving a message saying they received payment May 19th. Hmmm. Well, maybe just a delay somewhere.
Another 5 days later, still nothing. I call the bank, again. No record. I call Rakuten back, with the number I now have from them calling me, and explain, again. She has me read off the last digits of my card number. "Oh. That doesn't match." She leaves a message for a customer specialist to contact me. Super! We can correct this.
A few hours later, I get a call from a call with no caller ID. I'm driving and can't answer. The caller doesn't leave a message and calls back immediately. Maybe an emergency? I answer. Yup. Rakuten's customer specialist. I explain, once again. She has me read off my card number. The last two digits are incorrect and they've charged the wrong card... I don't know how they managed this with incorrect information. "Well, there were inconsistencies." Ya think? She then begins to argue with me about the validity of this being my card. "Maybe it's another card? Maybe someone else used your card?" Really?!
I tell her several times that this is not the case, I ordered the product, the card number I have is the one I just provided her and, again, they've charged someone else's card. All of the sudden, she can't hear me and hangs up. I wait. She never calls back. They have my number. I call back. Tell them I got "disconnected" from the specialist and I need to resolve the problem. "I can't transfer you, but I can leave a message." "You have my correct card number?" "Yes." "You have the card number of this other person?" "Yes." "Ok." I hang up. Now, I make another phone call. "Customer service, this is **." "Hi, **! I need to cancel a card."
I sent Rakuten an email advising them that they are not going to be paid twice for one product. When they can provide me with proof that the other payment has been returned, I will then pay for my order by another method. Also, I updated them about the same and they released my order for shipping. After couple of days of inactivity I had ringed them to check in about the status of my order. I suspect this was not a new computer returned but off lease. I complained, but they would not make any adjustment. They just offered to ship me another one, probably just like the first. I used it, but I really got no bargain. I am a very dissatisfied customer.

The specifications stated one year warranty, which comes with a new PC, so I ordered it. What arrived was a refurbished PC with a 90-day warranty and a dent on the top of the laptop. I called Best Buy, which referred me to Buy.com. They apologized that the ad was incorrect and that was actually for a refurbished model. They offered me a refund and a $20 voucher. I did not accept the voucher as I will never buy from them again! The laptop is being returned. I wanted a new laptop!

I placed an order in mid-April 2013 for a hard disk drive. About a week afterwards, strange charges started to appear on that Visa card. It was a new Visa card and the only place it was used at was Rakuten (Buy.com)! I called my Visa company and the rep said that he personally had received several calls from other cardholders that had to do with suspicious transactions after a Rakuten order. There were also many false log-ins into my online Visa account and an attempt to change my address by phone.
I also called the company that posted by charges and they said that other person's name was attached to those orders. Lastly, I searched Rakuten credit card fraud on the internet and I found hundreds of postings from people saying almost identical things. This is absolutely crazy! Rakuten wants to be considered like an Amazon but I've had better security from little one-person internet companies over the last 15 years. This has never happened to me before. Absolutely terrible security exists for Rakuten customers at Buy.com.

On 04-21-2013, I purchased 2 computers from Joy Systems (a great company with the best customer service I have ever dealt with). Apparently, when on Joy Systems' website, the purchase actually goes through Rakuten. The following day, I checked the status of the order and saw it was in progress and I had a credit of 1638 points ($16.38). Later on the 22nd, it would not let me check the status. It kept saying incorrect email. I contacted the company and they advised me that I was not using the correct email to get in.
After many emails back and forth, they kept telling me that I needed the original email. I kept asking how to retire or reset it and was constantly advised I could not reset it without knowing the original email (which I may have made a mistake when I ordered). After first saying they had no record of the order, I contacted the credit card company and was advised that a charge went through on 04-21-2013 at 6:49 pm from Rakuten. I gave them this info, the items purchased, all my contact info that was on the order and they refused to help me.
Two days ago, I advised them that if they wouldn't help me, I would refuse the packages and challenge the charges with the credit card company. FedEx later that day left the packages on my doorstep. I was going to send them back, but I do not want to create any problems for Joy Systems (who are an awesome company). Two days ago, in an email, Rakuten's rep said he never thought to call me on the phone (which is what I wanted from the start). They do not publish a phone number for the public on their website. He also said he would have a rep call me three days ago - no call.
This is the worst shopping nightmare I have ever been through. I am going to challenge this $16.38 amount when the credit card comes in and file complaints until I get it.

I ordered a laptop off Buy.com (apparently now Rakuten.com) and had it shipped to my home. I was not home when FedEx finally came by, so I called to have them hold the package at their facility. I was told that due to shipper restrictions, in order to hold the package, they would have to be contacted by the shipper. It was inefficient but okay. So then, I called Customer Service to have them call FedEx on my behalf to hold the package at the FedEx facility. I got a girl who could barely speak English tell me that unfortunately, they could not change the delivery address because of shipping restrictions.
So I asked what those restrictions were, and I was told that they needed a signature. Wouldn't I have to sign for a package at the facility as well as present an ID? So then I asked what my other options were, and was told FedEx will try to deliver the package 3 times and would then hold my package for pickup. I felt like I was in the Twilight Zone. So I have to wait 3 days for an action that I was requesting that day? Then she transferred me to a supervisor who says she will look into it.
I got an email later that day saying she would contact the vendor to honor my request, but she could not guarantee they would comply. Excuse me? I thought I was talking to the vendor. So she has to contact her own company to honor my request but can't guarantee her own company will listen? So I called customer service again to get some clarification, and was told by another non-English speaking person that yes, my request was passed along, but they are a big company with a lot of people working there, and I would be contacted by email if or when my request went through. Obviously, there are problems with integration within the new Rakuten/Buy.com. Next time, I will gladly pay the extra $50 and go with a company that provides better service.

Furthermore, that was the last of those computers and they could no longer follow through with their end of the deal and that I should be expecting a refund. Wow! I begged them not to issue a refund as this purchase was a calculated tax write off for my business for the 2012 year and any purchase in 2013 would negate the entire purpose of me (planning for 11 months) on buying this computer. Before I proceed, I'd like to say that I placed orders from buy.com many times in the past, but this experience has completely turned me off and I would never do business with them again.
I made a purchase on 4/18. The items were listed as In Stock and Usually Ships in 1 to 2 business days. I received instant order confirmations. On 4/25, I emailed buy.com asking when my orders would ship. On 4/26, Alexis replied, stating that on 4/19, someone left me a voice mail asking for more information, and to notify them if I did not receive this message. I replied, and asked for them to call me or verify my address through email. The same day, Tamie responded, saying that my info was forwarded for review and that my order would be processed in 1 business day. On 4/30, I got a voice mail asking me to call to verify my address, but no number was left. After hours on the phone, I finally verified my address. Within minutes, my orders were canceled by the marketplace seller, stating that the stock at the lower price was no longer available. They said buy.com took too long to process the order and it sold out.
I contacted buy.com asking them to honor the price, but they refused. I spoke with 2 reps before trading emails with Robert **. He claimed that there was a price mistake and said they will not honor the sale. This was not a price mistake and there was no reason to assume that. I purchased the items for $118, but buy.com claims that it is $1218. This sells for $599 everywhere else, so there was no reason to assume that it was fat-fingered. I figured this was a clearance item, since a new model of the tablet is about to be release. I was offered a $25 gift certificate, which I refused. Then they offered me $100, which I also refused. Then Robert offered to price match 1 of the tablets to a competitors price of $599, which was ridiculous because I could have just purchased at that price originally. After I refused, he stopped responding.
This is unacceptable.

Then I used my Visa check card and the purchase looked like it went through, but, alas, they referred it to the Address Verification Team. I called the team above (1-877-880-1030) and Victor looked into it and blamed me for having a gmx.com email account, saying they get a lot of fraud from those addresses. What? So you cancelled my order without telling me? He said he would reinstate the order but couldn't with two items. I would have to order them again.
So then I get an email confirmation at 9:02 pm saying the order was complete (with 2 items only). But at 9:03 pm there was an email for a cardholder protection form that required a copy of the credit card and a driver’s license. Then, without any action from me (I wasn't around), there was another email saying the order was complete at 9:05 pm. And to top it off, at 9:07 pm an email came canceling my order.

I was more than a little offended to think that Buy.com was asking me to go away for $20 and doing nothing to correct the problem but I might have left it at that until I opened the Buy.com web page and discovered that the fraudulent advertisement for a Sony KDL-46EX700 flat panel TV for $1,099 with free shipping. As of this writing (on November 13th) this misleading bait and switch ad remains on Buy.com. So, because Buy.com obviously intends to do nothing to abate the bait and switch scheme being perpetrated on their website, as I promised I would. I will publish this bad service story far and wide, and I will never again patronize Buy.com or TigerDirect. I hope plenty of others will read this and make the same choice.

I was looking on Buy.com and noticed a very good deal on a microphone that they had; it normally sold for $519 but they were selling it for $39 + shipping. The mic included a hard case and other accessories too. Buy.com was selling these for Adorama camera. I thought it might be a closeout or something. I ended up buying 6 of them because I thought it was such a great deal. I got confirmation from Buy.com that I had indeed purchased the microphones with accessories and that they would be shipped from Adorama Camera, NY.
I did not open the six individual boxes because I wanted to sell them as new; each box was labeled with the correct info, the Buy.com confirmation was in order. There was no reason to suspect anything was wrong. I quickly listed these microphones on eBay at a very competitive price far below the competition and they all sold quickly. I shipped them all out; one buyer paid to have his shipped overnight across country.
Well, then it all fell apart; the overnight buyer, who received his first, was very upset. Inside of his box was an empty microphone case. I soon got another disturbing email from another buyer who received an empty mic case. What had happened was someone at Buy.com had advertised the microphone with case and accessories, but in actuality, Adorama was only selling the empty mic case. Someone at Buy.com really *** this one up.
I looked at the packing slip that I had originally received from Adorama and it showed that they had in fact only sent 6 microphone cases; the six boxes that I received though had the microphone info on it and did not show the model # of the empty case. It appeared to have the microphone set in the box. I quickly wrote my six customers and explained what happened. I then refunded their money + shipping and informed them that they could keep the empty cases if it was going to be a hassle to ship them back. I was more concerned with keeping them happy so I wouldn't receive a lot of negative feedback or complaints with eBay at this point. I contacted customer service with Adorama and they pretty much said that they could only issue me a return shipping label to return the 6 empty cases to them for a refund of the original purchase price.
I contacted Buy.com customer service and after they investigated, they pretty much said what Adorama had told me. I then wrote the CEO, VP of Customer Service and Fred ******, the VP of Operations for Buy.com. Fred ****** was nice enough to reply and said he would check into my order. He had been misinformed that I had received empty boxes; he told me that I had in fact received empty cases instead, which I was aware of. I have emailed Fred ****** several times since then and he has not replied. I stated that I had purchased 6 microphones with case and accessories, that I only received the empty cases and that I would like to receive the 6 microphones with accessories that I had ordered and never received.

I would naturally assume buy.com would allow to redeem them since it is their relations with Chase and I don't affect them, but they refuse motivating this would be unfair to others. Bought a laptop computer on July 26th, 2010. I had to initiate contact with the company four different times to push the process along and finally got delivery on August 20th. Upon opening the item, I found a broken "P" key, something that even a cursory inspection should have revealed (I found it within 45 seconds of opening it). I sent an email requesting an immediate call back and got the "sincere apology" mentioned in so many other complaints on this site and was told the item was out of stock.
The only option offered was to send it back and they would "consider" a refund, 5-7 days after they received it back. No discounts on future purposes, nothing. Just send it back and hope for the best. The irony of this situation is I shopped an established retail outlet on line to avoid dealing with sketchy characters on sites like craigslist or eBay but I would have had none of the hassles listed above if I had done just that.
In a way, it's kind of nice to know my experience was not unique but I sure wish I'd found this site about a month ago. I wasted almost a month on a transaction that was advertised as a 2 (business) day turnaround and may still be out over $300 if they decide for whatever reason to not issue a refund (at which point, they can fight with my credit card company over it).

I ordered a cell phone, the LG Vu to be specific, from this company. I purchased said phone on May 16th and chose to have the phone expedited. I was told that this would amount to somewhere around 2 to 4 business days. So, I expected my phone to arrive anytime before that Friday. Well, Friday rolled around and the phone wasn't delivered. I contacted the company by email, to which a man named George ** said the phone would be delivered by the following Thursday at the latest and he apologized for my inconvenience and to satisfy me would refund the shipping costs and an extra 20 dollars.
I was satisfied with this agreement but when Thursday rolled around, I still had no phone. I called George ** at the cell phone number he left me in the email he sent me. It went straight to voice mail and 5 minutes later, a sketchy man called me back under restricted and said he would contact the Postal services to find my phone and call me back. He never did. So we contacted Buy.com for a refund and they did nothing. Finally, on June 3rd, I decided I had had enough. I called back George on a different cell phone. Once again, he tried to pull this scam of call you back in 30 minutes. I flipped out on him and he promised to call back. He never did. Finally we got Buy.com to refund the money and they said that Stratus Zone Mobile had a recent death in the family so they couldn't ship the phone. This company is a scam and absolutely horrendous and because of this, I know have to incur an extra charge with AT&T. Because they didn't deliver the phone I was forced to incur charges from AT&T for another month of internet because of the phone I owned.

The problem with this story is that this a pre-order for a software, and nobody has stock. The item isn't even manufactured for another 10 days. Despite at least a dozen transactions of over $1,000 in the last 10 years, I can't ever see myself trusting this site again. A couple of days later, I received an email back telling me there was a mistake and they would send a UPS shipping label within 24-48 hours. Instead, what they did was remove Tiger Direct as a seller of the camera 4 pack.
After a week, I emailed back and asked where my 3 cameras were at. I received a snotty email telling me they made a mistake and I would receive a label within 24-48 hours. I answered that I wanted what I paid for not to play hide it games. Their answer was to send it back and I'd receive a refund. At this point I don't believe for one minute there would be a refund in any way shape or form. I tried to do a feedback at Buy and their system refuses to take it. Knowing I have been screwed, I have tried to remove my email from their system and they refuse to honor my requests.
I keep getting ads from them daily. I consider this to be harassment. Today I also received a note to leave feedback on the transaction with a subtle reminder that I couldn't take it back. I'm guessing that was a veiled threat for a lawsuit. Buy.com are scumbags shilling for Tiger Direct in their bait and switch scams on the net. Well, aren't they helpful at all. Who, in the world, keeps the packing material, which I had to cut open with scissors, as it is a shrink-wrapped piece of plastic, in order to get the thing open. You can be assured that Buy.com will receive a very harsh, negative report, which I will most assuredly post on Amazon.com, for the entire world to read.
And, on a second note, you can consider that I will never purchase another item from their company, ever. I will make sure to tell everyone I know, to not purchase from them, either. I sure have heard of a dissatisfied customer telling a dozen people. Well, I have about 500 people in my email address book that I will contact, and let them know.
Their return policy of the original container is ludicrous. It is also unreasonable, at the very least, for this item, due to the way it is packaged. If it were packaged in a box, much like a network card, no problem, but shrink plastic wrapped? Come on! Lastly, I will absolutely now dispute the charge, and force Buy.com to spend more of your energy and resources to defend their business practice of sending out defective and non-working product. I would believe a fair and equitable resolution would be to replace the defective product they shipped to me. I don't even want my money back, just the product, to work as promised. I am out $70 for an item that is useless. All I want is to exchange the product. They, Buy.com, should be the responsible party, who has to contact the manufacturer, not the consumer!

I ordered a desktop computer from Buy.com and paid for expedited shipping (a big mistake) on January 3, 2010. It is January 16, 2010 and there is no trace of my order. I have been talking to "customer service" for the last 4 days and the only answer I get is: "We apologize for the inconvenience. We have escalated your order to the higher department and we promise we will call you back in 24 hours." Of course, no call backs ever occurred. Every time I call and talk to every person (in the same call) I have to verify every bit of information. My credit card has been charged and I have no idea where the order is. I am probably going to go through a nightmare trying to get my $500 back. Note that the same product is still available from various vendors at $20 more. Wish I had paid the extra $20 and avoided the $50 spent on headache medicine!
Buy.com used to be a great site with great customer service. However, now all you can get is customer service in Manila, Philippines and all the authority they have is to say: "We apologize for the inconvenience. We have escalated your order to the higher department and we promise we will call you back in 24 hours." Trust me, no one calls back and there is no higher department. I’m sitting without a desktop for 15 days. Now if I try to buy a similar one (I bought one in the post-Christmas sales), I will be out an extra $200-$300 from reputable sites. This sucks.

I contacted the manufacturer; they said it was defective and to send it back to where I purchased it. I was told that you cannot return without the original box (which I got rid of after a few days because the radio was working). Why isn't this information given to you before you try and return it?! I purchased a refurbished Xbox 360 from Buy.com on December 21, 2009 before 4pm Eastern. During checkout, it said that if I selected 2nd day shipping and paid extra, it would be shipped in time for Christmas. I decided to pay the extra so it would be here by Christmas. I checked the status at 6pm on December 22nd and to my dismay, the order status was stuck at "Processing". I still had to go through "Sent to Warehouse" and "Shipped". I called the customer service line and was connected to a front line CSR. He was polite, but he was not able to tell me of the status of my order. I said that if it couldn't be shipped by Christmas, I didn't want it; and I would buy one from a local retailer. He said it was too late to cancel the order.
I was pretty pissed at this point. The checkout system told me it would be here and their CSR didn't seem to have any additional information. I decided to send an email to the executives at Buy.com and complain. I looked around on the internet and found as many email address as I could for Buy.com VPs and above and sent a complaint to all of them. To my surprise, the VP of operations responded in a few minutes and said he would look into it. Within 20 minutes he had my tracking number.
As it turns out, the Xbox was shipped on December 21st and is scheduled for delivery on December 23rd, a full day before Christmas. Everything was okay! I honestly feel bad for causing such a commotion, and I am sure having some VP spend 10 minutes tracking down my order wiped out any and all profits they would have made on my order; they do need to improve their order status page. All of this could have been avoided if they updated the online order status faster and/or give their front line CSRs more information on order tracking. I still can't get over how impressed I was that a VP got involved. Because of his actions, I will continue to shop and Buy.com.

I purchased some video games with Buy.com on Black Friday for my nephews and niece in another state for Christmas that I paid with PayPal. I didn't receive the purchase confirmation or the cancellation notice via email. The reason they claimed to cancel my order was the billing address was different from shipping. I had them shipped to my out of state sister's house.
I tried to call them but they don't have a listed phone number so I left my number for them to call back. I received a call back from their overseas customer service that barely speaks English with strong accent and doesn't listen. They asked me all sort of questions for "my protection" about myself and the order that could be barely answered. When I made the purchase, I checked out as a guest paying with PayPal so minimum information was given out during the purchase.
I was informed that as their policies, they do not ship order to different (unconfirmed) address than billing address. They told me, I can't purchase anything for friends and families and ship to them through their website. I refused to believe that, so I asked for a supervisor. I was put on hold for 45 minutes then got hung up.
I requested another call back. Half hour later, somebody called back, I immediately asked for a supervisor and he refused to transfer me to one and asked all sorts of questions, more than the first time, about the order which they canceled and never notified me or sent the purchase confirmation. I couldn't answer the questions and got so frustrated that I hung up on him.
Keep in this mind, I have made many purchases online and have them shipped to different addresses using PayPal. Now I have no presents for my nephews and niece. The items that they canceled are older games that are hard to find plus the prices have doubled and tripled since then. Now, I have lost 12 days and I'm not sure if I can get those games again and have them shipped before Christmas. What a bunch of jacks!

So, I followed the return information to the letter when I returned the merchandise on 6/26/09. Today, 7/28/09, I received an email stating that I have been refunded the amount of $124 which means the company has $237.49 of my money. They essentially stole the money from me. I was charged $15.46 for shipping and handling which is fair. I have no idea what the $237.46 was for.
I called the customer service number that I had to hunt down on the web. I called their customer services and immediately asked a rep in the US. Did I get one? No. I knew I was in trouble then. The rep kept repeating the same thing over and over and over again. Something about expedite it to some experts. So, I kept asking the same question over and over again. When am I going to get my money and what the heck is expediting to experts? Give me the number and I will call them myself. I told her I wanted to speak to someone who was going to tell me when I would receive my money back. She then told me that after speaking to the experts, she would get back to as what their determination was? I said, "What? You have got to be kidding me." There was no earthly reason for Buy.com to keep $237.49 of my hard earned money for absolutely nothing. It's like I paid them $237.49 to keep their own merchandise.
Needless to say, I am not a happy camper. In fact, I am furious. If this company is California, then why are the customer service people in Manila, Philippines? Why are they not from CA? This was a huge problem as they gave the option to cancel the order but I had already promised these to my family.
