They promote all this cash back and then weeks or months later they are marked as ineligible. Denied cash back of almost $100 from Christmas shopping. Don’t use this service, just find best deals with upfront discounts.

I just made a sizable purchase at Sonos through Rakuten when they promoted %15 cash back. When reading the fine print all that it said was that vendors were ineligible, and there was no max limit. When it came time to give my cashback, I was told the purchase was ineligible (with no explanation given).

I’m extremely disappointed with Rakuten’s referral program. I referred my daughter, and despite her making about $100 in purchases, every single one was marked ineligible. We never received the referral bonus. The ‘refer and earn’ offer feels misleading and not worth the frustration.

I requested withdrawal but they blocked my account and minus all the profit I received without any acceptable reason. I requested withdrawal but they blocked my account and minus all the profit I received without any acceptable reason. From there, things spiraled. I researched and reported to the FCA that all my funds have vanished, they recommended the agency (nordevamberCOM) that helped me with the recovery process. They recovered and returned my full amount. Without that intervention, this would have been a devastating and unforgettable loss.

Just bought a mattress from Macy’s online through Rakuten link, and paid ~$1400. The Rakuten promotion for Macy’s is 13%. But only ~$19 rebates given. What kind of marketing. It lies to customers. It is a cheater.

So you buy through the app that doesn't give you your cash back. It owes me from 4 months back. There has got to be some law for these companies that are ripping people off. Senior citizens trying to make ends meet stay away from this.

You can buy stuff and get a pending reward, but after a few weeks they may find your account "suspicious" and suspend your account to avoid the payout. Basically there is no recourse. They can say whatever they want. My feedback is consistent with most on here.

I advise no one to deal with this company or download this app. They don't give you your cash back if it's a lot of money they have to give you. As long as it's pennies they will give it to you. I purchased the Norton security from their website. I was told that I would get my cash back on 09/08/2025. After I didn't receive it I contacted them today on 09/13/2025 to be told I didn't qualify for the cash back and that I should have read the qualifications. I did read it and it said I was qualified to get my cash back so I advise you not to download this app. I uninstalled this app this morning. I would give it a zero star but it wouldn't let me.

Rakuten is absolute garbage, fails to deliver what they promise. It is a waste of time and customer service is completely useless. Also no option to remove your account, just unsubscribe from emails. Be careful before you use your identity on this site. Customer service is just running people around, wait 7 days from delivery, wait 45 days from contacting the seller, sorry we promised you up to 12% but it doesn't apply to you. Forget it.

I have been a long-time user. Recently, their reliability has gone way down; I did not receive two of my last three payments. One had to be reissued and the other is still missing. This is unacceptable. Because of the lack of consistency in payment, I cannot recommend.

Since Rakuten has adopted a policy of not having a timeline to confirm cashback, you can expect much, if not most of your money, to disappear after 90 days, because it does, even though they say it doesn't. Rakuten just blames the merchant. It's all very convenient. I received a check today for less than half of my total cashback earnings, and most of the unconfirmed amount is from 3 months ago, to a company that has a 30-day return window. The unconfirmed amount will eventually vanish from my account, although there are dates and amounts of my purchases, and no returns. If you don't mind only getting 30% of your cashback earnings, by all means, sign up. If you think you should receive what you've rightfully earned, avoid this company.

I signed up to try to get a little cashback on an iFixit purchase. The purchase never showed up as pending or otherwise. I do use an adblocker, but I value my privacy more than a few cents on the dollar return. If you're ok with being opened up to tracking, don't value your privacy at all, and are ok with everything you lose by turning off your adblocker, go for it. Rakuten MIGHT work assuming the adblocker was the issue although similar offers/processes from my credit card companies seem to work just fine. I also started receiving more spam calls after sign-up. In my experience, it was a waste of time if not an outright mistake to sign up with a company like this. I have now requested to have my Rakuten data and account deleted.

Rakuten used to be fairly solid portal to do shopping in. It has increasingly become more problematic. Having to chase customer service for cash back requests now to the point where they just say "the merchant has not confirmed your purchase" after receipts have been provided and all details. Chasing for now 4 months on last purchase I have given up all hope that they will honor what they are promising on their website. Won't use again going forward.

I felt like I got scammed, they promised to give me 10% cash back on my dell purchase, even I got confirmation but they are mentioning that I am ineligible for that. It seems like clickbaiting to use their link.

Rakuten abruptly deactivated my account without any prior notice or specific evidence. Their team claimed my account was linked to multiple others operated by the same person, which they allege violates their Terms and Conditions. However, they did not provide any proof, nor was I given the opportunity to clarify or appeal before they permanently closed the account. To the best of my knowledge, I have operated my account independently and honestly. The only “related” account may be that of a friend I referred months ago — who signed up independently using a different name, address, and email. We are not the same person and do not share a device or household.
Rakuten’s enforcement appears to rely on unclear internal assumptions about associations between users, possibly based on referral history or IP data. I find this approach unfair, as I was not shown any violations or activity that would justify termination. Their responses were vague, and the final message encouraged me to use another platform rather than resolve the issue.

Ebates was legitimate but Rakuten is scammy. Over and over, they fail to pay cashback. One must open a claim with them to then get some bogus excuse as to why they cannot pay the cashback. They always blame the vendor but it happens too often, with too many vendors. Today they advised me that five separate claims I put in for purchases made with Viator during a 20% cashback offer were not eligible. They blamed viator.com. I knew they would pull this nonsense, so I screenshot the purchases at the time they occurred documenting the date/time, order number, URL, etc. They still refused to pay out any cashback. This is FRAUD

This company (if you so choose to use it's extension) is one of the greatest scams I have seen in a while. I guess I do not need to say much as the 1.4 ranking and myriad of negative reviews say it all. They do NOT do what they say!

They don’t honor the cashback offers promoted on their site. They will make you wait while they “research” for 45 days to come up with an excuse to not be accountable and pay as advertised. Would not recommend.

I purchased over holiday a LG TV and LG sound bar. Even filed BBB complaint yet nothing. I solely purchased LG from Rakuten for the fact offering 15% cash back. The next day they offered 20%. And the final even after getting confirmation did not receive the 15% promised. It was a scam. The BBB just got a canned response from Rakuten and it was accepted. Be wary look elsewhere for better trusted equipment and discounts. It was a $200 loss from trusting both. Never again closed LG and Rakuten accounts

Initially, the app was great, never a complaint but as special offers have began, I’ve been denied my cash back payments for the larger purchases, with no explanations. The basic ineligibility statement does not help understand the denial. The second issue with that is it also eliminates the opportunity for the cash back with a different third party.

I'm a new user, have only made small purchases while using Rakuten, and I'm starting them off at 5 stars... for now. I will update this, and modify my stars accordingly. So far, I did receive an initial $25 credit through Rakuten which was nice but, I have noticed that you have to read the fine print EACH and EVERY time you use Rakuten. They allow some companies to put fine print so that the credit that Rakuten will continue to send you in pop-ups, only applies to the 1st purchase on a given site.
Rakuten if you're reading this please fix you app so only applicable, valid pop-ups occur. If you send me a message that says $10 cash back available then I expect you to honor that. I didn't come to you, you are coming to me. That should make a difference. Fix that please, and I'll gladly return you to 5 stars. You do provide a service, you don't need to be sketch to be successful. Just imagine if people trusted you!

I made a $1500. purchase on an 'open' Rakuten ticket at 15% rebate. They made all kinds of excuses why they couldn't pay, and in the end, lied about the 'open' ticket. My advice is if you want the nickel and dime stuff, go ahead, but if it comes to high ($) end products, don't bother. This is the 2nd time they haven't paid up.

Canadian revieww. I had two accounts with a low balance without notice I received two cheques in the post to bring balance to zero.. Fine. Afterwards I had earned about $4 in each account, one day it was gone indicating I'd been paid out. Contacted CS and was told yes I was paid out. # of times I contacted them to say accounts paid out. I deleted the accounts. Why has the world gone to coupons, just have your product at a lower price and gain publicity for that rather than a 3rd party full of expenses and no discounts given.

Total garbage company that count on people forgetting they shopped through them but didn't get cashback. Have had dozens of orders through them but not one has ever cash back. They make you jump through hoops to prove order and half the time they still deny. They are still in business so they are clearly getting money back themselves. Total scam.

Hi there - We're so sorry to hear that your purchases aren't tracking Cash Back as we want to ensure every order you make earns you Cash Back. Some factors can happen to make the Cash Back not track, such as buying an excluded item, using a coupon code that wasn't found on Rakuten, or using another rewards site/app.
We'd be happy to look into these orders for you. Please reach out to us at https://www.rakuten.com/help/missing-cash-back and we'll look into your orders for you.

Denying legitimate cash back requests all the time now! I have shopped through Rakuten since before COVID. Their technology for capturing shopping trips isn't great. I frequently have to report missing cash back. This used to be easy and the cash back would be quickly credited. Now they always seem to find a way to deny cash back. I'll submit a missing cash back request and they find some weird excuse to deny it. I have even been given different excuses for the same request. Let me tell you - I absolutely shopped through Rakuten! Something is amiss with Rakuten tech (which has always been glitchy) and that I didn't suddenly forget to shop through Rakuten.

More than a few times I’ve gone out of my way to use Rakuten because of the cash back only to be denied cash back after the fact. Had to return a $600 item, didn’t give me cash back for that, which is understandable, but I was given a credit by the site for that order, so it’s still cash I spent and using on something else on that site, refused to do cash back on that because it was site credit now, not cool, but whatever. Have shopped at a couple places only because of the cash back and have recently found out they will not give you cash back if your rewards for business is connected?!? So the amount is brought down a little because of rewards, meaning the cashback amount would actually be less on their end, but instead, they’re using it to deny me my cashback altogether. Feeling ripped off now because I could have went to other businesses for these products for cheaper but didn’t because of the “cash back”.

Hi there - Unfortunately, some stores may not give Cash Back if the order is for business purposes such as reselling. Each store has their own terms so we recommend viewing this in their Rakuten page prior to shopping.
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this has caused.

I’m going to remain civil for now regarding how this company is handling things. I’ll leave a rating, but it’s difficult to promote a service that’s making me look disingenuous. Originally, the referral program offered a $30 bonus when someone signed up through my link and spent $30. However, now when I visit my referral link, there is no longer an invite page, which was much clearer and more intuitive. Now, you must first click on the three lines at the top left side of the page, and it shows a different offer: a $10 sign-up bonus and an additional $25 when spending $25. This change is quite confusing for me, and I’m sure it’s confusing for new customers as well.
To make matters worse, in the same area, there is a link to refer new customers for a $30 bonus. It seems like they are trying to recruit new referrers via my link, and I don’t believe the referrers receive credit for recruiting other affiliates. I’m not trying to smear their company; I’m stating facts and I’m bewildered by their business model. I’m telling people one thing, and they’re offering something else. As for recommending it to friends and family, I have before. It was during the holidays when the offer was $40 when you spend $40, and that was stated clearly on the invite page. So far, I haven’t had any complaints. With that said, I could be wrong in my assessment of this company, but they are not proving me wrong.

Hi Victor - Please note that your referral link should bring visitors a sign up page that shows the current referral bonus for both you and them if they sign up. We tested this on our end and it seems to still be the case. Please let us know if you have any other questions.
