I’m going to remain civil for now regarding how this company is handling things. I’ll leave a rating, but it’s difficult to promote a service that’s making me look disingenuous. Originally, the referral program offered a $30 bonus when someone signed up through my link and spent $30. However, now when I visit my referral link, there is no longer an invite page, which was much clearer and more intuitive. Now, you must first click on the three lines at the top left side of the page, and it shows a different offer: a $10 sign-up bonus and an additional $25 when spending $25. This change is quite confusing for me, and I’m sure it’s confusing for new customers as well.
To make matters worse, in the same area, there is a link to refer new customers for a $30 bonus. It seems like they are trying to recruit new referrers via my link, and I don’t believe the referrers receive credit for recruiting other affiliates. I’m not trying to smear their company; I’m stating facts and I’m bewildered by their business model. I’m telling people one thing, and they’re offering something else. As for recommending it to friends and family, I have before. It was during the holidays when the offer was $40 when you spend $40, and that was stated clearly on the invite page. So far, I haven’t had any complaints. With that said, I could be wrong in my assessment of this company, but they are not proving me wrong.

I have been a member since it was Ebates. However this company is becoming shady. They didn't require one to make a purchase on their browser before. However now all your passwords are saved by them which doesn't make any sense. Almost 3 years back they were issuing cash back checks regularly and efficiently. I didn't even have to check but now it seems that they are looking for ways to deny that and label transactions as ineligible.
In addition they won't honor the welcome or referral bonus any more. I had convinced around 10 to 12 people to sign up. One of whom is my mother who is elderly and shops a lot. I helped her make her account. They denied her bonus and even deactivated her account. Trisha M messaged who was very curt and rather accusatory. The last kind of person who should be in retail or marketing. I have let all my other referrals know and they are also not going to sign up now. Neither will I because the only reason I continued when it changed to Rakuten was because Ebates was a trustworthy and reliable company and I thought this will be as well. Unfortunately it is not and there are far too many cash back apps and platforms to tolerate the above mentioned 4 issues: storing passwords from other sites, randomly labeling transactions as ineligible, not honoring bonuses and unfriendly and belligerent customer "service". When it works, you can get some cash back from your shopping experiences. But when there are glitches, you are on your own. There use to be an online process to inquire about missing cash back, but that has disappeared. Now there is just a frustrating "Frequently Asked Questions" section that is only answers basic "how to" questions.

Have been a user for many years (back to the ebates days) but am finding increasing problems with getting cash back on purchases. The most recent response to my query about missing cash back included 6 conditions that could affect eligibility for cash back--none of which seemed to apply before as I have purchased from the same vendor through Rakuten many times in the past without issue. Seems like the company is looking to reduce cash back that it actually pays despite the rates advertised.

I am brand new to Rakuten. Want to purchase boots on Nordstrom and take advantage of the 12% cashback. The link won't load and comes up Web Page Unavailable. I emailed Rakuten and no response except they received my email. I was looking forward using Rakuten but now turned off. I guess these boots are made for walkin'!

Rakuten is a scam! My purchases from November and December are still pending so they don't have to pay me in February. They use to update quickly. So, I guess they are using my money to finance their website!

I joined thru a friend and never got my $30 for a new customer. I made an order thru them and now don’t get the cash back. As soon as I emailed them they made my account inactive. My friend also gave not received their $30 for referring me. Definitely a shady app! Now my info is in there and I’m not able to delete my account, as I’m not able to sign in.

I used it to purchase several items, got my cashback on time and without a problem via PayPal. They have a wide variety of places to shop. A lot of Triple cash back opportunities. I fully recommend Rakuten.

Ebates was a dependable company but Rakuten.com doesn't have that reputation. I receive a fraction of the cashback I used to receive. I routinely earn over a hundred dollars a payout but most of that amount is "pending" which means Rakuten hasn't collected the funds from the retailer so I won't receive it. At least that's the explanation Rakuten gave me. What they don't tell you is why the funds haven't been collected. Are retailers stiffing us or is it Rakuten? It's rather strange it was never an issue in all the previous years I used Ebates and Rakuten. It's only been the past year or two. I've found that pending cashback just disappears if it hasn't been collected by the time you get your "big fat check". That said, much of the money earned never even goes on your account, especially when the cashback percentages are high.
You can contact Rakuten and they will automatically add the funds but they always end up in "pending" and never get paid out. I don't even follow my account anymore. I don't see the point. Something is very wrong with the way Rakuten is conducting business. What used to be fun and profitable is now hardly worth your time. They should be investigated by a consumer agency.

This company is a scam. They do not honor your cash back, especially on larger purchases. I have been waiting since October for cashback related to a hotel booking. I chose that hotel specifically for the “guaranteed” cash back.

A perfect website to "earn" cash back, but only wants to play pretend, so don't worry, it'll be marked "ineligible" for cashback secretly after it was already "confirmed!" A great way to get scammed!!!

1: I still call it ebates instead of this made-up work. 2: They're getting pickier and pickier with what actually counts for cash back. They keep making more exclusions, and even though the pop-up will say that your cash-back will arrive in your balance soon, they NEVER send a follow-up saying "Oh actually no, you didn't, we exclude all these things". You just have to remember and eventually go back to see that your balance hasn't changed. very frustrating. 3: I'm officially removing the extension, because it now includes this super obnoxious pop-up that blocks a bunch of stuff on your screen that you have to click multiple things to get rid of. Basically: they're doing all they can to be less usable and get you less money.

I have been using Rakuten for a few years. Lately I have not been receiving the cash back. The cash back remains in pending and it's troublesome to try and get it as a pay out. I purposely use the site for the cash back. Sometimes the the product is a little more expensive but the cash back is great. I'm not using Rakuten any longer. Honestly Amazon prime with the 5 percent credit is better even with Amazon's monthly fee.

I have 5 pending cash back purchases sitting in pending status. The oldest one is from Oct 13 2024. The newest one is from 12/16/2024. Three different stores. Rakuten states I need $5.01 In confirmed status to receive any payment in February. Since they won’t move the legitimate purchases to confirmed status, they won’t send the money. Very easy to place all my transactions in pending, blame it on the three different stores, keep the money! If you look at the numerous complaints on BBB site, every complaint is the same! A seemingly systematic policy to deny payment, by blaming the store. They collect the shopping data, but withhold the payment! Contact the customer service, and they continually respond…. Don’t worry, we're working on it… 3 months later!!?? Give me a break!

Rakuten is not an honest merchant. Almost all of my recent rebates were declined or given less than stated, even though I didn’t use any extra coupons or make any changes to the orders. This wasn’t frequent before, but it has become a common issue this holiday season.

I can not re-join Rakuten. No matter what I do I get the same lame answers. I was told to wait 45 days to re-join. Well, it's been more than 45 days, and I keep getting rejected. The app is of no help at all, so is the so called "help". Rakuten rejects my email and phone no. Always the same "oops!" I will be taking my business elsewhere.

I’ve been a loyal Rakuten user, but my recent experience was very disappointing. I purchased clothes and shoes from adidas as Christmas gifts for my family during a great deal. Specifically, I bought four pairs of sweatshirts in two colors and three pairs of the same shoes, all for my family members. Rakuten refused to honor my Cash Back and accused me of being a reseller, which is completely untrue. These were personal purchases made for gifting. This kind of treatment feels unfair, especially since I followed the deal in good faith. Rakuten, this is not the way to treat loyal customers.

I've been a longtime time user, since it was Ebates, but it's really gone downhill. Most of my successful shopping trips, which were previously verified, turn into pending, then ineligible! This has now happened several times now, and I have to contact them and send them receipts breaking everything down. Then they try and cheat you by not giving you correct percentage back or making up excuses saying it wasn't activated even though you can clearly see it had been pending on the website. I'm going to look for a new way to shop as they've seem to become scammers!

I've been using RAKUTEN for many years. Cash back posted on the site in less than a week, sometimes 2 weeks max. NOW....they are all "pending" for months and months with no movement. I've contacted them and they are NOW saying it may take up to 100 days to get info from the merchant. What a SCAM...because you can only access your 'shopping trips' for 90 days, so you have no way to know what's going on. This is the NEW way??? Well, then I'm OUT. I used this site faithfully, but this new system has me leaving for a new one. Hoping they go back to the old system, but for now, I'm jumping ship.

Rakuten had change all my confirmed purchases to pending and now everything is pending. Others have had stuff or pending for 5 months and the only thing Rakuten will say is give them 100 days. 5 months is well over 100 days. I would use a different company. They are not the only ones out there. They keep giving them same copy and paste response when you reach out or make a BBB complaint.

I am being harassed by this company! I was purchasing from another site when Rakuten popped up. I did not sign up yet they are very persistent and keep sending me emails referencing the purchase I made from the other site. I have tried to stop the emails to no avail. They want me to create an account in order to unsubscribe.

I made a purchase at PetSmart on 9/2/2024 and they had shown my cash back of $15.90 but after 2 months it shows the order hasn't been confirmed. I have sent emails to Rakuten. They just say they're waiting for the merchant to verify the order still after 2 months lol. I don't know if it's a scam but I know I'm not going to get pay when I should be.

I have been using Rakuten/Ebates for a while. This company NEVER gives you a straight answer on the balance on shopping trips. Today my confirmed cash back balance shows $80.63 yet on 11/15/2024 I will only get $45.66 of this money - why are they holding on to money? To get the interest rather than send it for me shopping using their site. They don't always give cash back too. I have to constantly contact them asking where my cash back is for shopping trips.

Purchased a desktop through dell for 10% cashback. Immediately got a PayPal request to change my password for security reasons. Had a pending payment of $270 cashback for a couple days and it went to $0. Don't use them! You will not get your money and risk compromising your accounts.

I signed up for a $350 Sofi promo through Rakuten, after my initial deposit of $500 was declined because it was bank to bank and not ACH, I had 2 deposits totaling $500 ACH into my Sofi account. Rakuten would not recognize this, and declined to deposit the credit into my account. My husband did the EXACT SAME promo, and Rakuten deposited the points into his account as a COURTESY prior to it even being verified. This company's customer service is a joke, if you're a merchant using them please know they are causing you to lose customers. I am closing my Sofi account and letting them know why.

I never had any problems getting cash back when it was Ebates, since it has been Rakuten I have so many problems getting cash back. I constantly have to send proof of purchase with date, amount and all items that were purchased, I use the cash back button, receive the confirmation and still the cash back does not go into my account. When it is time to get the "Big Fat Check" (quarterly) the money is never the same as shown because all of a sudden my purchases were not verified. Last quarter it was $20 that disappeared. When you ask to speak with someone, they don't have a person to speak with, corresponding through email is useless. It would be a nice program if they lived up to what they say. Tired of getting ripped off by them.

If I was able to give negative 5 stars I would. I recently made a purchase thru my Rakuten.com app for Samsung with 10% back with home appliances. I thought would be great since I spent $3,500. They are coming up with every excuse why I have not received my cash back. I have emailed them literally every day on this issue. I'm so pissed. I feel like I completely wasted my time and at this point I'm ready to get some legal help because they should not be able to get away with this. I'm ready to sue.

If I could give Rakuten 0 stars I would. For several years they were dependable and honest with their transaction BUT that is not the case any longer!! My husband and I have separate accounts as we shop separately. My previous email was hacked last year so I had to delete it and lost access to many websites...I recently restarted again with Rakuten and they offered a 10% bonus. I made a vary large purchase and the credit showed in my account. Several days later it was deleted and 1% was credited to my account. I have sent many emails, you cannot call them of course, and have received no response! Total bait and switch! When I mentioned it to my husband he said the last year or so many of the purchases he made using Rakuten have not shown up on his account. It is hit or miss. JUST STAY AWAY from this site... They are not reputable and do not honor their posted rebates!!!

I have been a member of Rakuten for the past three years, during the first year everything was fine, however, sadly, Rakuten's services have erroded over the years, most especially this year. Cash back is ofter very little, I often have to chase Rakuten to give me my cash back refund,. When a merchant raises their cash back and you make a purchase, Rakuten fails to honour that, instead, they come up with every possible excuse under the sun to deny you your rightfully deserved cash back, especially, when you make large purchases.
In May of 2024, I made a large purchase at 24S, as they rose their cash back to four percent. Rakuten never honoured their commitment to give me my much deserved cash back, instead, they gave me the excuse that I used a promotional coupon, in addition shopped on another cash back site, hence, I do not qualify. This was not at all the case!!! I know of NO other cash back sites. Again, at the end of July 2024., I made another large purchase on 24S through Rakuten, it was deja vu all over again, Rakuten once again denied me my cash back, stating that 24S does not offer cash back on certain brands.
At the end of July, 202024. I also made another purchase at Italist, through Rakuten, seeing that Italist increased their cash back to 5%, to this day Rakuten has not given me my cash back, I have been imploring them to no avail, to have them pay me much overdue cash back!! Instead they have come up with another crafty excuse as to why they are denying me my cash back, they are stating that I did not begin my shopping visit at Italist through Rakuten first. This is far from the truth!!!! I have concluded that Rakuten is a fraudulent dodgy business. They are nothing but thieves. I am owed much overdue cash back, I want it now. I have been patient to a fault!!

Be forewarned. I made a large purchase from Omaha Steaks because Rakuten showed the cash back at 15%. Before shopping at Omaha I made sure I was in the Rakuten app. It displayed 15% at the top of the page. Once I verified I was in the app I placed my order. The shopping trip never showed up on Rakuten so I emailed them asking that they contact Omaha to receive the shopping trip. I’ve requested this 3 times. They are ignoring me. This morning I called Omaha and asked if they would send the information to Rakuten. The supervisor said it is Rakuten’s responsibility to gather the information, not me. My cash back is $46 and it looks like I will not receive it. I will no longer use Rakuten because I don’t want to give business to a dishonest, crooked company. Shop with them at your own risk. It’s just not worth the time and aggravation.

They offered me 15% cashback for Samsung fold 6 purchase. I made the purchase using their extension, it showed pending for 15 days, I contacted them to check the cashback. They Said samsung is not giving them the cashback because the order did not qualify for the cashback. The order meets all the requirements but still they are not giving any cashback. They are scam.

They gave me money for my first couple purchases and they will payout but when someone from the same household tried it they didn't send anything and actually closed their account. Also, they didn't honor a $30 referral twice! I signed up, and a family member signed up, and we both didn't get $30, I got 10% extra cash back on my first week and they didn't get anything! We used the same guys referral, a youtuber, (Pokemon Doctor) and we both didn't get what was promised. I'd deal with this company at your own risk, because they do payout but are pretty stingy.

Completely fraudulent practices by Rakuten. They advertise a rebate and after you make your purchase, they find vague reasons not to pay you. They will hide behind the Merchant and say "well, we didn't get paid and the Merchant won't tell us why, so you don't get paid." Even though you adhere to all of their T&C on their site, it's apparent they get kickbacks from these Merchants to steer you toward making a purchase you would only do if you seen a great offer out there for a discount or rebate. Only to have the rug pulled out from under you. Beware. False advertisements at the very core of the meaning, all the way around with these scammers!

First off, I've written over 1,500 reviews on sites and I have a 97% customer favorable rating on Amazon. I would not call any site a SCAM, if it wasn't. RAKUTEN would owe me over $100 for purchases made over the last couple of years. What does their site show for me?? It shows "$1.36". That's right. Even though I had their hugely ANNOYING Rakuten Extension on my browser and purchased from dozens of covered websites, that's all the crooks say I'm owed. Even though I recently purchased a GE refrigerator from Best Buy at over $1,200 and their annoying popup that I activated said I would receive 2.5%, (which is about $27.50), they cheated me out of that, too. Even though I made a large purchase at Vitacost that they claim was 10%, I received NOTHING!!!
Either people lie about getting anything from them or they pick and choose who they decide to actually pay. But, I will make it a point, to go on every single review site I can find and WARN people against their SCAM!!! I have and do use mrrebates.com and have never been cheated by them. They may not claim as high in rebates as Rakuten, but what difference does it make when Rakuten DOESN'T PAY YOU? Look at their hones reviews and you'll see that nearly 70% of people give them ONE STAR. About 7% of people give them FIVE STARS. The 5 star reviews can easily be FAKE. You will never find any legitimate business with this bad of reviews. Oh yes, also my $10 sign on bonus just magically disappeared, too. What's the odds? Needless to say, I DON'T recommend this business.

They keep on showing window pop ups for the cash backs but even after a month of making the purchase, I still yet to see the cashback hitting my account. I even reported the missing cashback, but still no help coming from them. I deleted my account even if I have pending cash backs. I consider it as my donation to them. This company is not to be trusted. I am so done with Rakuten.

This is scam, I used it my cash back was $51 and decrease to $28. Asked why but never got answer. It said 16% cash back on Temu but never got cash back in 1 transaction. It does not stick to its promise.

I made a purchase a Temu. It’s showed 25% cash back. I received credit. After couple of days I visited the page and noticed Rakuten reduced the credit. Not only that, Rakuten reduced the order amount to show the credit. Rakuten is scamming and cheating the purchase total and credits. You can’t trust these sites and recommend anyone. I contacted the customer service. They saying it’s credited but they are lying.

They boast a 25% cashback if I buy something from Temu, which I did. I was sure the system activated this cashback just before purchase. I signed up for this virus and after 10 minutes of having it, I knew it was going to be too intrusive for me. I cancelled it immediately and they said it would take 45 days to remove me from their list. It's now 3 months later and every time I open my eBay page I get Rakuten pop-ups. I've tried emailing and calling but Rakuten remains on my computer. It's very frustrating that I have to put up with this nonsense. I'm going to report them to the FCC for harassment.

I have never, not once, received a payout from Rakuten. I've been with them for almost a year, and the payouts never happen. I stopped using PayPal since that's where the payouts were supposed to go and signed up for a check instead. My last check which would have been my first money received, was supposedly sent out 2/15/24. I haven't received that either. My address is correct. Why sign up if you don't get money back at all???

Rakuten.com is the worst of the eight or so survey sites I've tried. After I answer quite a few questions I rarely am qualified for the surveys. And many of the surveys say, "you'll get your points in about 8 weeks." Who wants to wait that long, and why should they have to? Avoid this site.

I have been with Ebates/Rakuten.com a few years now. I used to love it but I have to constantly ask to get my purchase credit. Now, if you try to submit Missing Cash Back, after I select the merchant and date of purchase, the app just spins. This happen on my Android and Dell Laptop. You cannot email them directly anymore. I feel dupped as I think I am going to get paid and never do. I also agree that if a merchant says they will pay out a percentage and I shop thinking I am getting money back, Rakuten should pay their customers and go after the retailer. False advertising to lure shoppers into a purchase then never give them credit. I will shop more with Ibotta who pays back faster.

In the past month, I have had $130 of referral bonuses removed with no explanation. All they will do is site their policy that they reserve the right to rescind any money. Come on… really? And after spending over a week in emails with customer service. Oh yeah, they have no one manning their phones or chat customer service anymore, so it’s all e-mail. You are going to task your users to recruit for a small sum and then take it all away? That’s just bad business. It makes sensible adults like me seek out places to write bad reviews.

Rakuten used to be a good company when it was Ebates. Now they do not seem to care about honoring their cashback promise. And there is no customer service number, emails are ignored. If you complain they tell you to terminate your account. It’s a terrible way to treat customers; and they are still paid by all the companies they are affiliated with.

I have used Rakuten for dozens of purchases over maybe 6 months at this point, and I think the only time I have ever gotten the cashback I was supposed to was when buying from Aliexpress. Every other purchase required me to email Rakuten customer service to get it added to my account after it failed to appear automatically even after a month or more. I haven't even bothered to contact support for 90% of my missing cash back because it's not worth the hassle, which I assume is how Rakuten makes money. They just don't give cash back automatically and instead, pocket the earnings when most customers fail to notice and chase them down to get the cash back. On the bright side, signing up for Rakuten and using it is free, so you aren't actively losing money, and on the random chance that you manage to get the promised cash back, it is a nice bonus, but I don't like supporting this company with how scummy their operations are.

Like many other reviewers, I was enticed to shop with a promotion of an increased rebate with Saks off 5th. I only went ahead with my purchase based on the fact that I would be getting a cashback. I got an email confirming my purchase and saying my rebate would be paid in 2 weeks. I waited two months for it be cleared only for it to be denied. Now I check again and it says “pending”. It should have been paid over a month and a half ago. Have emailed several times with no reply. It should be illegal to falsely advertise rebates and time frames for rebates that they do not honour. I would have sent back the shoes if I had known that I was not getting the extra discount and now it’s too late. Very, very poor service.

As with others on here, I finally was convinced to sign up for Rakuten after seeing endless points/miles blog posts about signing up for a referral bonus. I signed up using the referral code from a popular points blog, spent the required $, and assumed I was good to go. It's been a couple months now - no signup bonus and Rakuten seems to be ignoring me now after a couple vague and generic customer service replies via email. I referred family, they spent their $ as well, they never received their signup bonus, nor have I gotten any credit for referring them. Their attempts to contact Rakuten customer support ended in the same result.
I guess I can still use the gift cards I bought via Rakuten, but would have been better off just saving my $ and using my credit card at the merchant directly. Rakuten appears to be deliberately running a scam in which they entice new customers with seemingly lucrative signup/referral bonuses, but don't actually honor those bonuses.

I was purchasing a laptop and they had access to the site. I went all the way through with the purchase and waited for days after receiving the merch. I sent in a request and they came up with a lame excuse about some code, which was one of the ones I activated with. If they didn't want to pay me, then I could have used Ibotta or Dosh. When there are larger payouts, they seem not to want to pay. I would stay away from them when it is large and use someone else.

I've been with Rakuten for 10+ years, starting when they were Ebates. The last year or two, Rakuten is a complete bait and switch. You shop through rakuten assuming you'll get 5-10% cashback and take that into account when comparing prices. Then when it comes time to add your cashback, they claim the stores haven't reported cashback. Or even when the stores do report, rakuten doesn't pay out. So you're actually spending more money shopping through rakuten as just finding the best deal. I'd say maybe 2 out of 10 shopping trips through rakuten actually pay any cash back, and that's usually only after you've gone through support asking why they didn't pay out. If you want to be frustrated, discourage, and feel like you've been ripped off all the time, by all means use Rakuten. If you don't want to worry about it, use another cashback site, or no cashback site at all.

It does not give you the cashback it promises, you will get an email telling you how much but when you check it they have taken the money back and you can only talk to the bots and you have to go back and find the order number and the amount of the order and they still didn't put the money back.

In April 2023, I saw an ad for Rakuten and I joined. On May 6th my mom joined after I sent her a referral and showed her how to set up her account. A $30 referral bonus was sent to me and her after she made her first purchase and that is when the problems started. May 14th I sent an email because the cashback was taken out of my account and my mom's account as well. I have contacted Rakuten multiple times about this same issue involving Cashback being taken out of my account. This morning I received an email and I tried to check my account but it was inactive. I asked my mom and the other person I sent referrals out to and they are having the same issue with their accounts. I have tried to reach out through the BBB as well but my issue was not resolved.

Now it is simply a bait and switch tactic. Promise, notify, add money to your account then quietly remove all the big generated items. Since 2023 I have Rakuten remove money after it was credited to my account. I was up over $118+ dollars to find out it was reduced to $36+ and tonight &25+ dollars. Seems like all the 15% promotion rebates have been removed after I have spent hundreds of dollars those 15% rebates would have really helped. No explanation. Money is just gone. No live person to contact and you cannot get past the auto bots to reach anyone for help. Best I can figure is Memorial week coupon code listed on the Duluth website I used voided them paying out the 15%.

They did not pay a large rebate they 'confirmed' by email for 60 days, only to remove it just before paying it out. They did not help resolve the issue and delayed the resolution for over 180 days making a refund on the service impossible now. 100% cash back offered and 0% paid out. I'm stuck with an overpriced nordVPN subscription while both Rakuten and nordVPN point the fingers at you or the other party. Scam site. 2023. They used to be a legitimate service but now are just a scam.

Signed up with a YouTuber link for a $30 bonus on the first purchase. Made a purchase, received an email that I got the $30 bonus, and 4 months later still waiting for the check. I installed the browser extension and click on it when I make purchases online. Occasionally it works and says I got 18 cents, or 30 cents, but when I signed up for new cell phone service it never registered the rebate I was supposed to get, and it never works with Walmart or Target the way it is supposed to. I emailed them a few weeks ago through the help link on their website asking about my $30, and of course no response. I think they are probably getting the rebates from the companies and just pocketing it all.

Keeps crashing. Lost out on 2 big purchases not to mention the $10 for making a purchase over $25. Well one of my purchases was $96 and the second got so frustrated from all the crashing I just ordered through the ulta app directly. Was also asked to delete a version of my web that's why it was crashing so I did and it still would cash. Doubt I even got my credit for the heydude purchase I made ... Never had this problem before. Even deleted and reinstall the app. No help. Basically losing money so if it works for you great. Me? It did nothing but cause frustration. Good luck losing money they'd promise.

So I joined Rakuten 8/25/22. Activated it and bought so many products from Ted Baker, Hotwire, Walmart and NYX PROFESSIONAL. I did huge purchases especially through Hotwire for a time I was living in hotels for work. Only credited me $13.79. To get that amount sent, I filled my address and PayPal (they already had my address-so not sure why asking again), and then they say they will send a code to my email. Code never is sent. Not in spam folder. Not in my email address. Wrote them 6-8 emails. Still going round and round. This company is dishonest, lacks integrity. They waste your time and are not effective at back end of customer relationships. They already have all your information, track what you purchase when activating, so this process should be seamless and effortless.

I was trying to log into my account one day and all of a sudden my Rakuten account comes up as an active. I tried several times to contact their so-called “support “ and could not get a response from them. You can’t get a live person at all when you call their number only a recording that tells you to leave a message. Other than your case has been recorded and they you a long checklists to troubleshoot which more than half of them on there require you to log in and you can’t because my account is inactive! You tried to contact and live agent, and the live agent tells you to fill out a form you can’t even chat with anybody online and you have to sign in and I can’t even sign in.
They keep telling you, “oh we will get back to you”. I let them know that I had $300 in my account and that I did not receive my cash back and no response has been received. They are not entitled to my money since I am the one spending the money in order receive the reward and that would be considered theft, I guess. I will keep complaining and go as far up the chain as I need to in order to get my money. I would not trust them, it is not right when you can’t speak to anyone nor chat.

90% of the time Rakuten does not automatically credit you your cash back instead a claim has to be made manually. Cash back on orders of less value usually receives a cash back immediately or a response that they will need to reach out to the merchant that it could take up to 45 days. Cash back on orders with higher value somehow, some way gets denied right away. 99% of the time they will say that vendor reported back the cash back was claimed elsewhere which in untrue and deny you completely. The quick denial response makes it so suspicious like it was falsified not wanting to pay up what they advertised. I am so fed up with them at this point after the number of manual claims made and denial on every expensive purchase.

I referred 3 family members and never got my $40 referral bonuses. Neither the people I refer did. I emailed Rakuten customer Service and they only replied to me the first time to say they will look into it and nothing. I’ve been emailing them every day and nothing. I tried calling the phone number listed as customer service on the internet and the automated system says nobody can help me for now. I’ve been trying for days! I got to know about Rakuten from my friend and she referred me to get 40$ cash back bonus as mentioned by Rakuten. I signed up and purchased shoes from Adidas. At a time the 40$ referral bonus was shown in both of our account. I referred some of my friends and 5 of them signed up and made the order of 40$. Initially, all of them got 40$ each and I also got 40$ from each of them. When I tried to redeem the bonus, they told it take a couple of months to get that money. But suddenly my sign-up referral bonus, and 3 of my friends' referral bonus are disappeared one by one.
I made a complaint on their customer service but they never got back to me and never explained why they took all money back. Three of my friend also lose their money from their account. Rakuten is completely fraud and scam. I was surprised how this kind of fraud company is advertising so many trusted brands and Us law does not accused them yet. I suggest all of you to not to use this app and do not trust their referral bonus scam.

I was referred by my brother who helped me pick out some laptops for Black Friday. He told me Rakuten was offering 15% cash back if you purchase from Lenovo through Rakuten's website. I was really excited as I was looking forward to using Rakuten for many other shopping needs. I read through their website and it claimed I would receive the cash back in my Rakuten account within the same day or the day after. That excitement I had quickly turned to disappointment and frustration after I placed a order on Lenovo totaling nearly $4,500 on two gaming laptops with the promise of 15% cash back and a $40 referral bonus. The cashback + bonus Rakuten advertises is what made me make the decision to spend so much this Black Friday.
It's going on two weeks now without receiving the cashback + referral bonus that was promised. I tried emailing them and they told me I would have to wait 45 days or more. They want me to wait until the return policy runs out on my purchase so I have no choice but to keep the full priced Laptops with zero cashback or bonus. I don't want to wait that long. It shouldn't take 45 days to get in touch with Lenovo and sort this out. I am so upset to find out that this is how Rakuten does business. I was hoping for them to be my go-to cashback extension.
I contacted Lenovo about this and was given outstanding customer service. They went out of their way to try to make it right. They also said they would email Rakuten to confirm the purchase I made so I could be allowed the cashback bonus but it seems Rakuten isn't interested in resolving this. At this time, I cannot recommend Rakuten to anybody. They track you, sell your data, and make you beg for the money they promised you.

In most cases, they will not automatically credit you with the promised cash back. 95% of the time, I have to go through their website, click Help, click Missing Cash Back. You then have to provide the date you made the reservation and the amount. They will then send you an email and ask for a copy of your receipt. Then they will say that they have to verify your purchase with the vendor. The only way to guarantee you'll get your cash back is to save everything. I have a spreadsheet which records the purchase date, the % cash back promised, the amount of the purchase, the confirmation/order number and the shopping trip number (use the pull down menu by your name and click shopping trips) and save all your receipts because they will ask for them. I've made over $2500 but had to go through this process.

I am from Ukraine. On September, 12 2022 I signed up on “Rakuten”. They checked my personal documents and verified me. On that day (September, 12) I booked and paid via Rakuten’s affiliated site hotel number (for 134.83 USD). When I was making booking there was information about cash back (approximately 5 USD) and this sum was in my personal cabinet on Rakuten after booking. But then it disappeared.
After my request Rakuten’s support service send me next respond: “We do not offer service in the country we determined to be associated with this account”. And also they told that any balances will not be paid! However, I can see on Rakuten that they provide services in Ukraine. Even if they do not, they should have informed me when I registered my account and made purchases via their site. I wrote them one more letter with these issues, but they ignored it. It looks like indecent actions. I do not recommend anyone to have any business with Rakuten, and better use another cashback websites.

When the shopping trip a sizable rebate, conveniently the shopping trip & its confirmation disappear. I have always kept screenshots to dispute and inquire about my missing cash and when it's large, they never resolve it. If it's less than a dollar then they resolve the dispute. Very difficult contract and working with their customer service dept. You really need to jump through hoops and spend a lot of time only to be disappointed and never really get the cash back. I made a hotel reservation in March of 2022 through the Rakuten.com site, provided the full documentation of completion for the hotel stay and to this day never got the money. I had 3 shopping trips at Lowes.com through their site in June and never got the money. When I try to inquire about these 3 trips, their website erases my information.

I used Ebates.com for years. We travel for business and spend weeks at a time in hotels throughout the year. Ebates always made sure I received my credit for staying and I never had an issue. However ever since it became Rakuten.com I haven't been paid once for the hotel stays. The first time I thought it was my fault, maybe I didn't register the credit card? But when I checked the credit card, it was listed. I contacted them and they said, "For hotels you had to wait 6 months." When I contacted after 6 months, all the information about the stay had been deleted from my account. 2 more hotel stays later and still the same. They should change their name to Scam.com. I'm looking for an alternative company. I'm done with Rakuten.com!

I am a member at Ebate.com/Rakuten.com since 10/21/2007, so I am familiar with the requirements and regulations. On May 22, 2022, I was attracted by a 10% offer from Rakuten for my purchases from Staples through Rakuten website. I Followed all the required steps and I placed my Staples order for the amount of $39.89.66 Dollars. Rakuten did not give me the cash back as it was supposed to happen.
I filed several claims, but no customer service answer was received, all the answers were generic replies by the website. After more than 20 attempt to reach a live customer service, I received an email from a customer service Blaming Staples for not giving me the 10% cash back WHEN THE CASH BACK WAS OFFERED TO BY RAKUTEN NOT BY STAPLES, I think Rakuten are switching their business from advertising to scam.
Scamming the customers is an easier and more profitable business for Rakuten than their previous honest business of advertising. Rakuten is blaming a third party for the false promise of 10% that they refused to abide with. The misleading action of Rakuten costed me $40 dollars that I want it back asap. It is not my problem what goes between Rakuten and the seller, My contract for 10% is with Rakuten who is trying to ignore. I want Rakuten to give me my 10% as I was promised.

Trying to get a cashback check as my balance indicates money to be sent to me by 5/15. The balance of what they say they have paid me is not correct as I have received very few checks and cannot get the current check they owe me. I contacted the online chat and they sent a link which sounds good but does not activate on my account. They tell me to change my address on a certain site and there is nothing on there to do this. I sent an email to customer support and received a general response with no follow-through. I think they are a scam. I have been patient now am writing reviews on this as they will not respond.

I shop a lot from Instacart and Rakuten promises 2% every time so I make sure that I click it. However, when I checked my account not a single one of my shopping experiences has cashback attached. I checked the website and the qualifications needed and I met all of them and still no cashback. I wonder if Rakuten has benefited from all my shopping experiences through Instacart and is keeping all the benefits to themselves. I have received a few payments from them, but not always. It is a little annoying to say the least.

When it was Ebates everything was easy and I always got my rebates. Rakuten NEVER gives me the promised rebates until I contact them and then have to send copies of my completed invoices then have to wait MONTHS to see a dime. This company used to be called eBates. I do not know if they were sold to someone else or if they simply changed their name, but now they are called Rakuten. I signed up with them a long time back. I cannot even recall how long ago. I very rarely ever sign into my account mainly because I forget about them because I simply do not buy online aside from eBay, Amazon, and occasionally on a few other sites. I do not shop with most any of the shops they use on their site.
Anyway, I tried to log in a few days ago, but I could not log in, so I reported it to them. I thought they were having a website glitch or something. After a few days, I received this message from them: "We have found a number of accounts in violation of our program terms related to yours. Due to the abuse of our program, our risk department has ended membership for all related accounts."
I have no idea what this ^^^^ even means! I have only one account with them, and as I said, I seldom even use it for the reasons stated in my first paragraph above. So, I contacted them back and told them I do not even know what you are talking about. I only have one account. I am an individual not associated with any other business or account. To close my account without asking me any questions, without providing any sort of evidence in support of what you are talking about, and without notifying me of anything is unreasonable. It is a lack of the idea of due process. You have accused me, judged me, and executed me without me knowing anything about any of this. They replied that they do everything at their "sole discretion." Can you imagine if everyone operated this way?!
I was so angry that I filed complaints against them with the BBB and the California Attorney General's Office for Consumer Protection. They replied to the BBB complaint with the same message---no explanation, no clarification, no evidence of anything they think I have done wrong, etc. I am truly appalled. I began researching them online, and I found where other people had the same thing happen to them. It makes no sense to me whatsoever, but I wanted to share my experience. I do not think I had accrual of much cashback, but I cannot even log into my account to check. They have not made a lot of money off of me because I did not buy through their site a whole lot, but what about people who DID buy a lot through their site and accrued a good bit of money that they had not yet collected and then their accounts were unilaterally closed at Rukuten's "sole discretion"? This sort of behaviour is just plain wrong.
I encourage others with bad experiences with Rakuten to share their experiences, too. I bet there are a lot of people out there who have not reported on this site. My best advice to everyone is to file reviews and complaints, and stay as far away from this company as possible. They are NOT trustworthy and not worth your good faith in them.

Recently, I received an email stating if I refer friends I would get 40 bucks and they also would get 40 bucks. And I saw the money in my account but after a few days it was gone. I had at least two people sign up. The second person never saw her 40bucks and we both sent emails and never received a response. Guess they say if it's too good to be true...

I opened an account and was offered $30 with a qualifying purchase. The money showed up for a couple of days and then disappeared from my account. I also referred 4 family members some which live with me, but I don’t see how that would be a violation with the same $30 offer for both parties. Once again the money showed up for a couple of days and disappeared again. I contacted customer service and they are bullies. They kept telling me to consolidate accounts which I kept repeating to them that the referred accounts do not belong to me. They are very aggressive and I honestly felt threatened and bullied. They have the worse customer service and I would recommend everyone to not do business with them, their signup bonuses are a scam.

Their process is very cumbersome and involves many steps to accurately get your purchase to apply properly. Too many times you click on a portion of the vendor site and it takes you out of the Rakuten process and you wind up purchasing an item without getting proper credit for it. So. It is too much to keep straight while shopping.

Rakuten is the real deal, they really send you a check for your cashback with no strings attached. Also it is completely free to be a member of Rakuten. And they have a lot of deals on many websites (like almost all of 'em)! : )

Rakuten never fails to amaze me. Have only been a subscriber for 2 years but no matter where I want to shop, there is always a cash back offer thru them. I made the mistake twice by not checking their site first. Never again. I missed out on $25.00 by directly shopping the store site. Learned my lesson. When looking for a product on line, always check Rakuten first. 98% of the time, you will find a cash back offer or discount coupon. Rakuten ROCKS!!

RAKUTEN IS A SCAM! BUYER BEWARE! I have been happy with Rakuten until this past month. I have been a loyal member for YEARS and not using any of the other apps due to loyalty. If there were issues in the past, communication was very easy and as long as you showed proof of your claim (ie order number from their page, confirmation email, etc.) they were very good about crediting your account. HOWEVER, lately I had been booking airline tickets and hotel stays through the website and had been very patient waiting the THREE MONTH AFTER TRIP COMPLETION requirement. You can imagine the amounts were no longer simple $0.93 or $1.18 credits... After the waiting period, I contacted CS to ask and they said they needed the complete confirmation emails as the hotel/airline hadn't acknowledged the transactions. No problem. Send everything in. They said it would take up to another 45 days. Fine. Waited.
THEN I started getting emails that the hotel/airline wasn't acknowledging the transactions so I wouldn't be getting credit. I sent back the emails again WITH screenshots of the ORDER numbers generated on Rakuten and they then escalated the claims. After all this, they again informed me that I would NOT be getting any credit for ALL THREE transactions I had completed (which added up to about $2500.00) because their partners would not credit them (Rakuten) for the transactions. Had I used other apps, I would have been able to get some cash back, but now I get NOTHING.
Rakuten will not acknowledge their own order number or the confirmation emails that they asked for and have always used before as proof of claims. It seems that their policy is only to give cashback for what THEY feel like is an acceptable amount and not what they promised on their website. PERFECT WAY TO END A PERFECT YEAR!!! TIME TO MOVE ON AND USE ANY OTHER CASHBACK APP BUT THIS ONE!!!! BUYER BEWARE!!!!

I referred several people here when it was $40 cashback. They accused me of creating accounts and referring myself because I referred my roommate at my same address. Also accused me of making my mom's account because we share the same last name. I’ve lost $80 in referrals and will probably be accused of creating my sister's account because same last name. What a joke! As others mentioned if it’s 1-3% back you get the $$ fast but anything above 8% you’ll be fighting for and likely never see.

When I was logging on to a new device, I forgot which email I used and accidentally signed up for a new account. They locked my original account and couldn't get my cash back. Contacted their customer service and told me they couldn't do anything because I had multiple accounts. Gave a referral to my brother, bought items through them and now I can't get anything because they believe I intentionally created another account to get the referral bonus. Thing is I didn't even sign up through a referral link on the accidental account, it was at their sign in page where I accidentally signed up. I guess it was my mistake to begin with but they don't see that as an honest mistake.

My experience with Rakuten is to great extremes-when the cash back about received is minimal (1-3%) the amount is added immediately with no issues, however not the same at (10-12%) using the same process.

I easily uploaded the app but the first time I had a receipt for cash back, I received a pop-up wanting me to consent to allowing them to access my emails, texts, searches, etc. in order to proceed. I couldn't believe it. Was it someone trying to hack my phone or are people vulnerable enough to give up all their information for these people? I certainly am Not. Will remove this app.

Be careful making a large purchase using Rakuten as they will rip you off! I was promised %15 cashback on an HP laptop that I paid $2400 and they won't pay me my cash back. I provided invoice and they confirmed I did make a legit purchase. It's been over a month. Still no cash back. My advice is that instead wait for the manufacture to discount their product instead of going for cashback as Rakuten is a complete scam!

I order a lot through Rakuten. When it was Ebates my rebate checks were on time and a nice amount. Now though I get about half of what I use to get back from Rakuten. Does anyone know of a better site to use. I'm so done with Rakuten.

The check I just got had the check number where the routing number should be first on the line. The routing number, or so I presume, is second on the line format. Then it appears some garbage account number ** is third. No bank will allow deposit for cashing of this check. This can't be a mistake if this company is legitimate and has been in operations for more than a year. Could be a scam. Check is stamped signed by Mail Patel, CEO. Two banks identified at the top Silicon Valley Bank Pittsburgh PA and presumed routing number is for The Bank of New York Mellon, New York NY. And the company address is identified as 160 Spear Street 19th floor San Francisco CA 94105. Don't know what is true about this company and what is false.

I've been trying to access my cash back for a month now. Every time I sign on I go to my account settings, tells me what my cash back balance is and then it tells me to add address then I click on address and then continues to continuously pop up saying that address there is no way for me to add an address so there is no way for me to access my cash back which means that this is a big scam.

My experience has proven that what is promised as the percentages in rewards at the time of purchase is not necessarily what you always receive. When the browser extension states 4%, 5% or 6%, you will only receive 1%! I bet if you check your history of payments you will see that this has happened many times to you as well. I am in the process of collaboration on a class action suit since I believe that they are operating under the wire and if others really check, they too will realize that Rakuten is cheating them as well.

I opened an account with this business and had it open for several months. Over these months I purchased several items through their website and accumulated around $150. However, right before the payday they closed my account claiming that it's in a violation of their policy. They don't have any numbers so I emailed them to find out what policy is violated. After a week they just responded the account is in violation of their policy and provided no further explanation. I told them to reimburse me the cashback balance which they had collected from the businesses I made a purchase from. After another several days they responded that I have forfeited my rights to get any cashback. This a scam and a fraud I have never seen before.

I recommend this app to so many family and friends, but I'm now doing reviews to see if they are a scam because, for months they keep on changing the mailing days for checks. My family and friends are now getting rid of the app. They think it's a scam. I feel really bad for recommending it to them, I'm confused.

I received a cash back check from Rakuten. Deposited the check in my account and the check BOUNCED. THERE WAS NO ROUTING OR ACCOUNT # ON THE CHECK, PLUS IT WAS NOT SIGNED. Rakuten is a total waste of time. There was no way to explain the problem in their website and guess what, they don't have an email address or phone number. I am sorry these people have my information and they are not in the U.S.

I have been a member of Rakuten since 2012. Recently I made purchases through AT&T and Verizon as well as many others. Suddenly my account was closed and the reason was I had ineligible purchases. They told this in past when owed $250 and I spoke to the company and waS told they have no say in what Rakuten pays. They're liars, plain and simple. Now they me $417. 72 which they tell me is ineligible. This been on my account since February. I find very convenient for them. They get money from the vendors and tell you are ineligible, that is how they make their money. Greed runs this company.

Beware of fraud and follow-up collection threat! We signed up with the Rakuten Affiliate platform in early 2020. They promised great data of affiliates and publishers with amazing features and abilities. All was overpromised and underdelivered. If I say straightforward - they just give you any information you like to hear to get you signed up on a monthly fee and it is nowhere near reality. Total **. After spending many months on paid service and get absolute zero results we demand termination based on a false advertising argument. But they kept promising boost and kept charging us. After almost a year they agreed to terminate it but still threat us with a collection for thousands of service fees for service they never delivered. My account became unavailable online and they were asking for all kinds of proof for an online transaction. I was a little frustrated and told them to cancel it. The agent proceeded to delete my account without even empathizing. Now I have list my cashback. I have been a customer for seven years and this is how they treat customers. I can't call or speak with anyone and my emails get ignored.

I started using Rackuten.com late last year. Also referred family and friends during holiday. Except for my brother and nephew that share the same name all other family referrals hit my account. The only issue I have had was with one online shop that did not show up in my account the next day. I entered the order number and website and money put in immediately. Pending review or not it is part of my next check coming out. I love it. I have actually placed orders and cancelled them to reorder when the cashback was higher next day. All reflected perfectly. Checks come when promised or when mail delivers. I never used to care about these sites but now I consider the additional cash back as added % off items and when already 40% off on some retail chains this is a great addition.

I have used Rakuten for a number of years and had no problem. Recently I was sent my rebate check but it was not signed. My bank will not deposit or cash this check without a signature and there is no phone number to call to get another check.

They used to have a policy that shopping rebates from October 1 - December 31 were paid February 15 (six weeks after the stop date). NOW they say they send the checks out February 15th - but it takes up to three weeks to receive them. I know the post office is slow, but not that slow. Sounds like they are having money issues. I'm now going to try one of the many other rebate sites.

This is a scam. I received one check from them and now they have a cash balance on my account. They say, "Put your address in to get paid." I did this several times. A box comes up that says to verify my account they will send a code and they do not send it. This is a scam. Make no mistake about it. Do not sign up for this site.

I made a gift card purchase on 01/26. I used my debit card. There is money in my account to cover the purchase. A few minutes after the purchase I get an email from Rakuten telling me that my order didn't go thru. It said if there was an authorization that it would drop off within 48 hours. I immediately called my bank and was told that there was no reason why it wouldn't go thru. They got authorization. (It was pending on my account so my money is being held). My bank cannot dispute it since it was only pending. They told me to contact the merchant to have the authorization removed. I searched but could not find any phone number to contact Rakuten so I had to email them. I asked why the charge didn't go thru and said I wanted the authorization removed. They responded the next day to tell me that they couldn't discuss that over email but I can call and they provided a phone.
At this point I decided to just wait because the charge should be dropping off as it was close to 48 hours. After 3 days when the charge did not drop off, I called. The person I spoke to was useless. He couldn't answer why it didn't go thru or remove it. He told me he had to escalate it via email. I explained to him that they said they couldn't discuss it in email. He said because it was escalated that they would respond to me via email same day and that I would have to ask them. Makes no sense. So I wait for an email. I do get a response same day and it's the same email I got the first night. All it says is, 'Your charge didn't go thru and will drop off in 48 hours." I wrote back to once again ask why and to ask that they release my money as it is over 48 hours. They reply and tell me that my order is declined due to payment processing rules from the vendor. Additionally I will no longer be able to participate in the Rakuten gift card shop.
I have no idea what that means. I did nothing wrong. I made a purchase with my debit card and they got authorization. So I once again write back and ask for the authorization to be removed. They tell me that they and their partners are not able to do that. The "typical" time frame is 48 hours but it could take longer. So... They are holding my money for 4 days now (today is the 29th), I have no product and they are refusing to remove the authorization.
I called my bank again to see if they could help. They said that merchants have to remove the authorization that they cannot. So I emailed again. Rakuten responded and apologized and offered me a $50 bonus on my next order. That doesn't help me now as I need my money, and I will never use Rakuten again. This is terrible that they can hold someone's money for 4 days. As I said, I will NEVER do business with them again and if my money isn't available to me soon, I will be taking legal action.

I had several orders from different stores. I checked and no cashback. I was told I had to manually send in my 'order confirmation' from each order. Even though I used their app. Then 7 of my orders were denied because they said I didn't use the app. Very disappointed. You have 90 days to check "cashback' and put in orders yourself or you lose any cashback on those orders. There is nothing mentioned about that in the TV ad.

Rakuten offered $40 for the referrer and the new member. I found out about this because I was referred by a friend. So I took advantage of this and started referring family and friends. I made two purchases through Rakuten during this time as well and accumulated a total of $122.88. I was supposed to be paid out in Feb. However, for some reason rakuten has decided to close my account with no reason. I have reached out to them with no response. I don't think they understood how many people they would entice with this offer because halfway through they dropped the amount to $20. Rakuten saw how much they would have to pay me out and rather than being an upstanding company and pay what they agreed. Instead they just shutdown my account with no reason.

Too much hassle trying track $ and to get Rakuten to follow through. I was referred, opened an account, shopped, the bonus showed up in my account (which is paid out quarterly) then two weeks later they withdrew it from my account. Tried going through support, which is useless as well, and takes weeks to get a responses because they are only available via email. Don’t waste your time unless you have nothing better to do and go in with low expectations. You will spend most of your time tracking down $2-3 payouts that you will be lucky if they show up.

Ignore the people who say this is a good company as I'm sure they work there. This company is full of ignorant people who couldn't investigate their way out of a paper bag. The scam they ran this holiday for referring friends and family was a complete scam. I am part of three generations of men in the same family. We all have the same name except for our middle name which does not make us a III generation type name if you understand what I mean. 2 of us live at the same address while the third does not. We all signed up with our email and made qualifying purchases yet NONE of us got any bonuses that were promised.
I sent this in to them on Dec 7th 2020. "I DO NOT have more than one account. We are father and son.... TWO different people using TWO different methods of payment. You are incorrect. His email address is **. My fathers account is **. He also uses a different payment method and LIVES at a different address. You are incorrect. I should not be penalized because my son still lives in my home. Please fix this incorrect assumption by Raketen. Thank You."
Then I get this back finally in January 2021. Member Services (Rakuten). Jan 13, 2021, 4:02 PM CST. "Hello James, At this time, we are not able to make any changes to your Rakuten account. Our program does not allow members to create or manage multiple accounts. In some cases, we do remove members from our program. Lastly, the bonus program is restricted to members within the United States and Canada. We regret that you had this experience with Rakuten. LauraMember Operations Analyst." End of story. They are completely wrong and I hope all of you heed my warnings. They don't care and they don't understand that men can have the same name. The promotion clearly asked you to invite as many friends and family as possible. I will never have anything to do with them ever again.

I am visiting my parent in Japan and I bought sunglasses from Rakuten.co.jp paid by American chase CC and they did not accept my order. Next day they cancelled my order without any reason. I am so mad that they cancel my order without any reason. My credit score is perfect and it works. It is not because my credit card does not work. I never use it again. So bad.

I was referred during their period of $40 welcome bonus and $40 for each person you refer which they also get their own $40. When I initially signed up, I said there's no way it's $40, but I saw the balance in my account and as soon as I saw the bonus I referred 3 family members who we have the same last name and also referred my boyfriend. Which we all used our own credit cards for purchases. We all saw our bonuses of $40 for the first few days and then they were gone. I emailed them multiple times and only got one response and they basically accused me of creating different emails to earn the bonus, and I responded that they were my immediate family which we have the same last name but they paid with their own credit cards!! And I'm not sure why I nor my boyfriend never received our bonus after referring him if we don't have the same address nor last name. So their welcome bonus was just a scam to get people to download the app.

I've used Ebates now Rakuten approximately 6 years or so. My experience is it infrequently records shopping transactions and doesn't award cash back unless a request is submitted. They only seem to honor the request for the missing cash back when the amount is under $10, anything over they refuse to acknowledge the transaction. I know I've used the app correctly as I've navigated back to the Rakuten app after the store purchase and it's shown a shopping trip but surprise, no cash back is awarded unless I submit a request.
And if the amount is of the cash back seems to be over $10 they have always denied the transaction. They have fraudulently kept upwards of a few hundred 'cash back rebates' from my shopping trips. Multiply that by thousands of shoppers and that's a huge sum of commission cash back rebates from merchants they are keeping and not all allocating to the consumer. It's fraudulent practices and they should be investigated.

I placed a purchase on ToryBurch.com on 11/11 this year with a cash back deal of 12 or 15% through Rakuten. The order got lost, so Tory Burch resent me a new bag on 11/16. The cash back was still there until this week. Rakuten took it away. I contacted them to explain the situation and they told me to cancel the order and replace a new one. If you follow their site, you would know that Tory Burch usually doesn’t offer cash back deal for more than 2 or 3%. How do I place another order now to get 15% cash back deal back in November????
They said if the store modifies the order in anyway, then the consumer will not get cash back. That’s ridiculous. It was not my fault that my order was lost. Shouldn’t they challenge Tory Burch about that lost order? It was not my fault that I didn’t get my bag as I was supposed to. Especially when I followed Rakuten rules to place that order through their site. If it’s not my fault, why would I be punished for it? Also, as the customer above mentioned, I got two transactions with The Children’s Place and Ann Taylor which didn’t provide cash back. We wouldn’t bother going through Rakuten to place purchases IF a store didn’t provide cash back in the first place. Ebates was much better and less troubles than Rakuten.

As another reviewer mentioned, I also fell victim to the scam encouraging me to sign people up for $40 bonus. My friend also enrolled, spent over 150 and we both got the credit then days later it was gone. Another friend enrolled and spent a lot, no referral bonus. I contacted customer service but they gave a vague answer that while it qualified at the time, it didn't qualify anymore. No specific answer about what changed, a resolution or intent to make sure to earn what I was promised. How can you follow the rules, earn it under the rules and once they get what they want (the sign up and all the purchases) you change the rule after? I am owed $80 and both of my friends are each owed $40. Do not refer people because it seems like a scam to inflate their user base.

I was referred by someone under the premise that you’d buy something through the Rakuten website or app and then get cash back. Sounds like a scam right? But I figured, why not. I need to get some Christmas presents and I already shop online. First off, their account creation system is a whole mess. Even though I’m a millennial, I struggled creating an account and somehow between the app and the website, two accounts were created for me. Rakuten didn’t tell me this; I had to do all the research myself. How I struggled creating an account: every time I would login it would tell me I didn’t have an account or my password is wrong. It would keep asking me to create an account and wouldn’t move on until I had.
In addition to my struggles with account creation I noticed that the $40 cash back offer that I initially was enticed by was not in my account, even though I had used the referral link every time. That was the first red flag. I had to go jump through another hoop by linking that person's referral link again and waiting 24 hours for rakuten to “approve” it. When that didn’t work, I emailed them to ask why two accounts had been created for me and why the $40 offer wasn’t valid.
I first sent them an email on 11/19/20. They stopped replying to me on thanksgiving without resolving the issues with my account, saying they’d send my request to a specialist and wouldn’t reply until they had more information. I sent another inquiry on 12/6/20 and they still haven’t responded. As of the time of writing this review The issues still haven’t been resolved and I don’t think rakuten ever will. It appears like rakuten has either closed my issue and blocked my email or they just don’t care to respond.
They only pay out four times a year, probably time for them to find issues with your account and invalidate any promotions they offer. All of this occurred after I had spent over $250 through their app and website, so it’s not like I was not a paying customer. I am loathe to recommend this website to any of my friends or family due to this negative experience. God forbid you need to return any of the items you bought from a company because I’m sure rakuten would be quick to invalidate your account after getting what they want from you: selling your information and consumer habits.

I spent ~same price as for a brand new iPod to buy an iPod at their website. Strongly suspecting it is refurbished. The battery runs very fast, the same problem as the refurbished one I purchased from Amazon earlier. Very disappointing. Will not buy from them again.

Rakuten isn't crediting the account if cash back is more than $5.00. The last big 3 purchases (legit and confirmed purchases) made were nor awarded with promised cash back. I had to contact and follow up weekly for over the month, and the answer received from a supervisor Alison (who was very rude and sounded she doesn't care how Customers feel) that the final decision is made to not credit the account as they (according to her-and how we, customers of Rakuten, have to believe?! or check if it is true) did not receive it from the Merchants.

I have been using Rakuten for years, when it used to be ebates. I booked many vacations through this site over the past year. They have not applied any cash back. It just shows as pending. When I did call about the oldest one, I was given a very hard time to get my cash back. They wanted details which are already showing on my account. It was through email and it's like they don't even read the emails, they just give standard replies. I finally called a telephone number today because I had some extra time to deal with this, and only after I was on hold for 20mins did I get transferred to leave a voicemail. This is ridiculous. Is this company getting their kickbacks from IHG and not giving customers their rebates? The only time I have no problem with cash back is when it is for a few dollars in rebates.

So I got to know a about Rakuten's referral bonus. Then I got a referral link and signed up. Made a purchase and received referral bonus too. All looked good. Next day when I woke up, bonus was gone from account. Tried reaching out to customer care, no response yet. I did not lose anything as such apart from time I spent on signing up and navigating to shop.

I was a happy and loyal eBates customer and had no issues with their service in 2019, however, when they changed to Rakuten, everything seems to have fallen apart rapidly. Checks always came fairly quickly and I never had to look up the progress or follow-up. Now, after nearly a year of placing orders on sites such as Vitacost (amounting collectively to thousands of dollars), I realized that I have yet to receive ANY cash back checks from them for the entire year!
When I checked my balance, not a single order was accounted for in my "Shopping Trips" section and yes, I followed the same exact procedures every time I placed an order. (First click on Rakuten, then the Vitacost link, then a confirmation came up indicating that the cash balance was applied and nothing more to be done on my end.) I went to Rakuten's Help section and started to manually log in every single transaction on my end from the most recent date going backwards. After a few entries, it appears that I could no longer enter anymore information and got back a standard "email will be sent to you" message. This is very frustrating. I am owed a substantial amount of money.

I ordered a new iPhone 11 Pro Max $1149.99 through Rakuten for AT&T wireless. The offer was for $75 cashback. They keep asking for the order number which I have provided roughly 7-8 times. I also sent them actual copies and screenshots of the order and they are still asking for the order details and number. They even sent a few emails WITH my order number attached as if they don’t have the information. I had the same issue a few months ago. I placed an order for $360+ for tires and again no cashback. It’s like pulling teeth to get cashback for anything purchased over $150.
Years ago I went on vacation for a week and my car rental charges were in excess of $380+ and the percentage was 9%. They reduced Budget car rental to 3%. Tired of fighting with these people. Not a very honest company. Make sure you review your account because some shopping trips disappear. I’m going to try Honey.com. My friend says it is better than eBates/Rakuten.

This referral and welcome bonus program offered by Rakuten is a big joke ever in my life. It is simply cheating. I have the same experience with others here. This is the worst company I met so far and its customer service is not helpful at all. I was referred by a friend via WhatsApp to join Rakuten on 13 Oct 2020 and I made a purchase for over USD30 on the same day. Then I referred to some of my friends via WhatsApp and two of them opened the accounts and made some purchases over USD30 as well.
The first day I received all the referral bonus and welcome bonus for USD90, then the 2nd day everything was gone. I contacted the Customer Service ("CS") and they said it was because I violated their terms and conditions in which they used an excuse that their IT dept. found that I have opened many accounts, but THAT IS NOT THE TRUE. All the referrals are really my friends, they are not even my relatives. I have sent them the referral link via WhatsApp. We use different email addresses for registration and of course use different credit cards to purchase. I even showed the CS some screen captures of WhatsApp of my friends to prove that we are not the same persons.
After a few attempts, they only keep saying I violate their T&C without providing me any further proof. The last emails, after I showed them the proof, they said the case is closed without further explanation. I even find one of my friend's account is blocked too. I'm so fierce about that. If Rakuten is not ready to give out your bonus, don't do it and cheat people around. And your IT dept. is so incapable too that they cannot find out whether accounts are not related. Don't trust this company and don't waste your time for this kind of programs offered by Rakuten. This company is a big liar and is a real scam. I will also write a letter to their CEO Mr. Hiroshi Mikitani to show that how incapable is this US subsidiary.

Given the plethora of 1-star reviews, it's obvious the company is doing something wrong. They task the Marketing dept to push "refer-a-friend" to get the new account (and hopefully cashback) metrics UP. Then task the Operation dept to shoot down referral bonus with arbitrary "fraud"/"abuse" accusations without proofs or evidence. These 2 contradictory directives wound up driving up customer complaints. Their Ops group treats members like thieves. The time to test for fraud is at/b4 sign-up, not a week before the "big fat checks" are to be issued with misleading "cashback bonus $**" all along that they have no intention to ever pay.
To extend the Fraudulent Business Practice theme, the cashback earned and then "forfeited" by these arbitrarily labeled "abuse"/"fraud" accounts are certainly NOT returned back to the vendors. They are kept by Rakuten, without even a thank you. The info from these same locked out "fraud" accounts remains part of Rakuten's Big Data cash cow. The above goes beyond operational process breaks that caused missed cashbacks or use wrong %. They are Business Practices that are setup to be fraudulent in the realm of Racketeering and we have even touched upon the USE of the data collected.

People working in this Department always told you that they can manually added but when you sent them a receipts and things are never happened and change to different direction as you need to go through their website, you have login more and they will lower the cashback. I have loved Ebates/Rakuten for years. Used to refer them to all my friends and family. One day when making a purchase I can't access my account so I email them. They said I have high activity on my account and asked me to explain why, which I did. They terminated my account because I shop too much. They are also very rude and told me to go elsewhere. I think it is a scam that they constantly cancel people's account and steal their money. I believe this is what happened to me too. I can't believe they think they can get away with it. Over the years my account said I saved $4520.82. I still have about $350 to be paid out.

I was referred to them to register for their affiliate network by a company I am already an affiliate for, that was partnering with them, and when I applied they repeatedly cancelled my account, stating I was in violation and a threat to the integrity of their network, and then stating they don't have to give me a reason for cancelling my account, and from other reviews I have found about them, this is their normal business practice. The company that was partnering with them backed out of their partnership with them too, thankfully. Seriously, find someone else to do business with. This company is bad news.

I am still waiting to receive my cash reward of 20% for a purchase made through Shoes.com that Rakuten sponsored. Numerous inquiries to Rakuten yield absolutely no response whatsoever. In addition, I have provided them with the necessary proof of purchase from the transaction on numerous occasions. I am somewhat bewildered, baffled, and disappointed. I hope my problem can be rectified by Rakuten as soon as possible.

I did lots of product comparison and selected to buy a mattress from Idle Sleep through Rakuten because they had a Labor Day sale of 30% off AND 10% cashback. I shopped through Rakuten to Idle Sleep. The coupon code was FROM Rakuten for 30% off. I have yet to receive the 10% cashback. I have communicated at length with customer service and provided the order summary. They say I either used another site's coupon or shopped from another site. My browser history shows I shopped at Rakuten directly to Idle Sleep then checkout and PayPal. I expect my 10% cashback since I followed their rules and shopped directly through their site and only used their coupon code. I am not new to senates-Rakuten it’s not like I forgot how to shop and get cashback. They are refusing to uphold their cashback deal.

Was told to make sure that I do not open any other windows on computer between the Rakuten site and the store that I am shopping in. Here is the order of events: I purchased "Monarch Specialties Computer Desk - 60"L " for $239.08 at Rakuten.com. Seller was ISave and more than 10 were available. Less than 24 hrs later, they cancelled my order saying the item was backordered, etc. I checked my account and went to "My Orders" and hit the item I ordered. Here it was. It was available now at $384.95 by same seller, ISave. Bottom line is they did not want to honor their own advertised price of $239.08 and/or they became greedy thinking to sell it for more money. Mind you, the $239.08 was not overly cheap anyway. It was an average price. Very poorly managed, bad firm. I will have to cancel my account with Rakuten.com. Lesson learned, there is a good reason why good companies are good companies. For instance Amazon, Ebay, Walmart, Sam's Club, Target.

I bought a Samsung washer & I particularly chose the website as Rakuten was giving back 10% cash back on that day, The washer cost me $638.96, I should have got back $63.89 as cash back, instead I got only 19.17 which is 3%. They conveniently choose the day the cash back is the least to process the transaction and not the day of the shopping trip.
Another purchase I made at Nike.com for a pair of shoes is not being processed as they are waiting for the cash back percentage to reduce. All I want to point out is that I will not decide my shopping choices on the percentage of cash back because they do not honor the cash back as seen on the day of the shopping trip, They wait for it to reduce and they add the cash back.

When they were Ebates, I would get cash back. Now out of all of my shopping trips, I get nothing. And it says the stores were not offering cash back. That's such BS. I wouldn't use Rakuten if the stores were not offering cash back. The "shopping trip" start when you go to Rakuten, find the store and then you hit "Shop Now." If you do not hit shop now, there will not be a shopping trip in your account. So why would I hit Shop Now through them if they are not offering cash back? Makes no sense. It is such a scam. I ordered from GlassesUsa.com and both times, I had a large order (glasses aren't cheap) and they had offered 2.5% cash back. Well guess what, Rakuten says they didn't. I ordered through Ulta, through Macys etc and I have the shopping trips, but no cash back. SCAM and makes me upset because I could have used RetailMeNot but I chose to use this site. Go through any other cash back site, do not use them!!!

I am so frustrated with Rakuten: I ordered my first two items from them and each had a problem: one sent to the wrong address; one sent the wrong item. Neither one of those were anything I did wrong yet I STILL have not received either a refund or a correct product. I tried customer service who PROMISED me I would get refunded and nothing ever happened-- it's been three weeks.

This place is a total fraud. The whole purpose of this business is cash back on your shopping. I shop a lot. Is that a bad thing? Isn't that what they want? They sent me emails of my cash back from purchases. However when time came to pay, they did NOT. They claim that my purchase are fraud? Uhh, no idea what that means and no one will explain. Basically I shop a lot and now they don't want to pay for my shopping. Well guess what, close your company because that is essentially what your business is! They barely return my emails and when they do, they come up with a new excuse to not pay me. They make up the rules as they go. This company needs to be shut down!

They have deleted my account, with more than 30$ cashback waiting for payment. No message before deleting, alltought that is bad enough, they dont even give me any information why they have deleted it. STAY AWAY!!!!

I have over 50 orders from April/May on Alibaba, and only 3 of them had applied cash back. Every shopping trip I do I do on Google Chrome with the Rakuten browser extension and click on the 'activate cash back' button on the browser before shopping. When I reached out to Rakuten, and provided them with order numbers, amounts, dates and email prints, they added only 7/47 orders that I submitted, and provided various excuses as to why they were missed. Each order that they added was significantly less than the actual amounts. This seems to be thousands of dollars in cash back they are trying to avoid. I opened an account at Rakuten on the recommendation of my friend, then I made a purchase and recommended my family and friend to open an account on my recommendation on promotional terms at that time. Then after three days I could not log in to my account because it was temporarily blocked with a request to contact support. I asked to unlock the account several times and each time I received the same message. The same as we received from chatbots that their system periodically removes accounts that are in violation of the site's Terms of Use. I am indignant at how this company treats its clients and feels treated objectively. I categorically disagree with the allegations it has presented to me. Each account was created by my family and friends. I required to unlock each account but to no avail. We used their services in accordance with applicable regulations and rules.
Everyone is writing to me saying that I invited them to a company that blocks their accounts unreasonably and without asking about their identity. Most of them have already made a purchase hoping for a refund, even though they could use other companies on the market, but because of my invitation they stayed at Rakuten. Everyone uses and has registered PayPal accounts on their Rakuten accounts. I advise against using their services. They block an account without reason, despite the fact that they urge us to recommend their friends to set up an account and buy through their website and then, in order not to pay the cashback due, they block the account on the pretext of violating their terms and conditions!!

I shop online quite a bit as I am a disabled woman. Since Rakuten took over Ebates, things have gone downhill with regards to the cashback we are assured that we will earn when shopping at online stores that work with Rakuten. A window pops up when you shop at these etailers from Rakuten that tells the consumer to "Activate cashback" and then advises there is nothing more for you to do except shop and enjoy your cashback. Not true! I shop at Kohl's quite often and when I look at my Rakuten statement, more often than not, I receive NO CASHBACK. When I reach out to Rakuten, their response is to ask me to provide order numbers (they already have that), confirmation emails from the eTailer, ship dates, etc., etc. What happened to "There is nothing more for you to do".
Rakuten is paid a commission from these eTailers and I would bet they collect on EVERY dollar that the consumer spends, yet when we have the audacity to request what was promised to us, Rakuten wants the consumer to do all the heavy lifting. I will be reaching out the the stores I spend thousands of dollars with over the year to let them know how unhappy I am with Rakuten!!!

I signed up with Rakuten Winter 2019. I made several purchases during that time, Proflowers, Hotels.com, Macy's even an Airbnb. I understood the terms and conditions, the projected wait time to receive checks, unfortunately not only did I not receive a check or checks, but customer service was rude, made me jump through hoops several times by sending receipts and other documentation of my purchases only to ignore my responses and verifications of purchases. I am disappointed that I thought a program designed to pay you for shopping is a deception to the general public. I would encourage people if it sounds too good to be true...it 99 percent of the time is. I am 50 years old and still was duped by this company. Very disheartening. Yvette T.

Huge disappointment. Rakuten tempt everyone with their referral programs, but all that is a bad joke. I referred my wife and they have revoked the bonuses and blocked the accounts stating that they were made by same person. I can understand that they need to protect themselves from multiaccounts frauds. Problem is that they did not even gave me a chance to prove that account was made by my wife and customer service was completely ignorant and unpleasant. On top of that they gave a point from terms and conditions that they can remove the bonus at any time for any reason or no reason!!! This is just ridiculous. Do not use the service just to spare yourself nerves and disappointment.

When it was Ebates, the process was simple and there were no glitches or problems. THEN IT BECAME RAKUTEN! - First they tried to take away cash back and strictly go on a points system - FAIL!. So they are (to all appearances) - back to a % based cash back business. Now the problem is Most of the time, you can't get on to the site, get your 5% at the store, you are basically just paralized, stuck in a #400 bad request. Try to log onto the site - #400 bad request, the pop-up comes on to click here for % off (while in the store shopping - #400 bad request), try to open the app online #400 bad request!!!! I have all but given up using this stupid money back app because it DOESN'T WORK, and annoys the HELL out of me. FIX YOUR G.D. SITE!!! FIX THE PROBLEMS!!!! FIX THE GLITCHES!!!! YOUR EBATES SITE WAS GREAT >>>> AS RAKUTEN - IT SUCKS!!!

My experience with them has been very good. You have to make sure you don't have anything that cancels out your Rakuten cashback, like Honey (or sometimes putting in certain discount codes). But otherwise, it works really well. Compared to other extensions like Honey, it tends to give you more cashback and a wider range. I signed up for Rakuten because I shop online a lot so I thought I can save some, and I referred my family members who also made accounts and purchases online. After we all made purchases Rakuten deactivated our accounts claiming we violated their terms. This didn't happen once with me, I tried to explain that the accounts belonged to family members, but the emails I received were as if I was talking to an automated machine. They finally reactivated my account and family’s accounts but refused to give the cash and bonus back. They told me they will get cash back when they make purchases again with their cards and inform Rakuten about the purchase and the bonus will be given.
At this time I had referred other family members that live at the same address but have their own credit cards and did their own purchases. When they got the cash back and bonus back. One of my old referrals made a purchase and reached out to Rakuten about the purchase. Inside of giving them the cashback and bonus he was mailed back that his and all the other accounts that very associated with me were deactivated because they violated terms, and it looked like one person was using it.
Before I signed up I asked them can family members living together be referred, they said YES but they have to open their own account use their own card with purchases. That is exactly what my referrals did open an account bought through Rakuten with their own credit cards, but Rakuten deactivated our accounts after we all made money for them. Anyone wanting to use Rakuten seriously beware, they are cheats and frauds. They make money off you then refuse to give you yours back. Save time and mental health with dealing with them. Their accounts team is horrible, they have frustrating customer service. Talking to them is like literally banging your head against the wall. I called them twice, was told the accounts team will get back to me but they never did. Horrible experience. Please save yourself from them. They will make money off you but never give you back yours.

I purchased a hostgator 3 years hosting plan through Rakuten link on 7-Jan-20. I got a mail from Rakuten for 30$ cashback on 8-Jan-20. I remember this cashback showing in my account till 24-April-20 as I bought a domain at godaddy, so I remember seeing my cashback there. Now, yesterday when I checked Rakuten, I saw that my cashback of 30$ was removed that I was supposed to get paid on 15-May-20. I checked with customer support, they replied that Hostgator has cancelled cashback and that I should provide purchase receipt.
I provided them purchase receipt and also gave them the name of the website that is hosted at Hostgator and that's online. They replied to me today, saying that they are investigating the matter and that it may take anywhere from 10 days to 45 days. Pathetic experience, if it was ebates, I would have easily got the cashback by providing this much evidence. Since now it's been taken over by Rakuten, you can expect more frauds to happen. Stay away from these fraudsters.

I joined Rakuten at the end of last year because I do a lot of online shopping and most of the online stores that I shop from are on the list of stores. I have yet to earn a single penny unlike when they were Ebates and I was earning a lot of rebates back then. The only two things have changed since then are the company changed their name and stopped giving rebates. The other is that I am shopping online more because of the lockdowns. One would expect that I would be racking up a massive amount rebates with the increase in online shopping that I am doing. Instead I have got nothing. Who knows maybe rakuten shut down the rebates due to the sudden volume of people shopping online now. if so, they should announce that. In any case, rakuten needs to go back to being Ebates. They were a lot better back then. I was forced to give them a one star when I would rather give no stars as that is the rating they deserve.

I heard great things about this company and I am VERY DISAPPOINTED! Rakuten does an inadequate job and fails to tell you that if you refer a family member or someone who shares your home address/email address they will tag your account as fraudulent activity and refuse to help or reply. This is completely unacceptable as I even had asked them via customer chat that we all share the same PayPal and they said I could use the same paypal since we didn't have another option. I was referred by my BOYFRIEND and I REFERRED MY MOM AND BROTHER and many others!!
This is ridiculous as apparently all of their accounts are violated and they all have their own brand new accounts. Rakuten is suspending everyone's account instead of honoring their agreement and rewarding for those who refer the service and are new members!! It would be great if they could accept that they suspected unnecessarily and restore our accounts. I AM EXTREMELY UPSET. DO NOT USE!! SAVE YOUR MONEY AND USE IT ELSEWHERE!!

Rakuten touts a large referral bonus, what they fail to mention is that if you refer any family member or someone who shares your home/billing address or a similar email address they will make your account as fraudulent activity and refused to assist. I referred my mother, brother, sister, girlfriend, girlfriend's mother and apparently all these accounts are in violation of their referral service although these people all have their own and new accounts. It's ridiculous. They are now suspending everyone's account instead of honoring their agreement and rewarding for those who refer the service! DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE!

If you are signing up and using it to receive $5 welcome bonus and $10 for referral, make sure the store that you are going to shop with is offering cashback rebate. I did an online purchase on Amazon for over $25 and received nothing from Rakuten as they told me that Amazon is not doing cashback bonus anymore so my purchase is not eligible.

During this unprecedented time, Amazon has decided to currently not offer Cash Back. To earn the Welcome Bonus or Referral Bonus, the purchase must be an order qualifying for Cash Back. We hope this helps and to have Amazon back in the future!

We spent over $100,000 from online & offline stores. We were supposed to receive around $19xx mostly from 1~2% cashbacks. We have all invoices/orders from the websites/stores and card that was used to link to the Rakuten to receive cashbacks. All of a sudden they accused us for abuse, cancelled Big Fat Check and closed our account. If they do not send us Big Fat Check within few days we are taking this to court.

As a long-time customer of Ebates which then changed to Rakuten, I have always loved this company. But during the coronavirus outbreak which is challenging our country like we have never seen and leaving so many people not working and putting our country into a depression that we have not experienced in quite a long time, instead of Rakuten supporting its longtime customers at the one store they know Americans will be shopping at more than anyone else because of necessity, they actually TOOK AWAY ANY cashback percentage for purchases to this store. By not offering even one percent cashback at a time when everyone in our country should be working together to make our economy better, I think they are demonstrating horrible customer service and clearly very little loyalty to their customers who are desperate for some kind of financial relief at this time of crisis. I think Rakuten should be ashamed of themselves.

It was great when it was Ebates. I used to get money back on everything I purchased pretty much. All the normal stuff you would buy on a more regular basis. I'm still buying all the same things but I no longer get any money back. It no longer gives you money back off of most of what it used to give you money back off.

Think twice before spending time to use this service. Everything worked good until I earned essential amount. After this my account was blocked. If you're interested a reason, you can write a letter to the site, but would never get any worthwhile answer, just reference to the agreement which you sign to use this service: "Specifically in article 22.1. Termination or Suspension it states in part, "We may terminate this Agreement and your use of or access to the Program at any time, for any reason or no reason." So remember, this site has "No reason" to pay your money. Great job!

I want to take a minute and let you know of a VERY DECEPTIVE BUSINESS PRACTICE that is being used. Some of you may use RAKUTEN as a way to get rebates from purchases. We have used them for years and never had a problem before now. A week ago, they were advertising rebates of 14% on purchases (with the pop up advertisement that instantly took you to the merchant you were navigating to). We purchased the item thinking we got the discount, only to find out days later that the actual discount earned was less than 1%.
When we inquired about the difference, they essentially had a “give a ** response” and told us we should have read the fine print (which said stated the discount only applied to certain categories). We told them the advertising did not include that detail and they said it was our responsibility to go to their website and research any offer. When we mentioned we would tell our story on social media, they essentially said “do what you have to do”. From a customer service perspective, I was shocked by their attitude and response to us. Well, here it is. Please do not fall for this very deceptive practice.

Unbelievable. I'm still in disbelief. I racked up quite a bit using Ebates and was diligent every time. Went through their website and most times I had to manually fill out their form with all the info, including the subtotal, merchant, order confirmation email. When it came time to pay the "big fat cheque" they literally shut down my account and refused to pay me claiming that the orders weren't placed properly. Awful company. I actually mistakenly thought their customer service was decent, as they'd tell me they would get back to me when they heard about my order from the merchant and would promptly credit my account after. Pretty disgusting.

Rakuten is the old Buy.com, which was bought out by the Japanese company. It continues and expands on what Buy.com was famous for, electronics at the best prices. They now rival Walmart for their online product selection. The inventory is all by third party sellers, who often offer free shipping regardless of pricing.

I haven’t been using Rakuten since last year. In first few months, everything was smooth. I got cash back for all my transactions. Lately, They couldn’t recognize my transactions and I had to send them images of my transactions in details including the prices, promotion deals, home billing address and type of credit card used. I have no problem with that. Then I have problem with the referral and I asked for help. I tried to explain my situation and instead of helping me they deactivated my account. They have the worst customer ever. It’s waste of time. They basically get paid from our purchases. But we have to deal with their worst customer services.

I was excited to shop Rakuten living in rural Colorado. My first two orders went well and soon received my first check. But three subsequent orders have been a nightmare. I spent $60 to $100 each time. But Rakuten didn't credit full order. Example: 41 cents back on just some socks. Then they want you to email and screenshot to resolve. Here's the deal; they get the money then want you to fight for it. And that's not worth it.

When I used Ebates, I always got cash back rewards on eligible purchases. But something is going on with Rakuten! I received no cash back rewards for purchases made In November and December 2019 - even though they were all eligible purchases!! Every transaction shows up in my account history.... but every reward amount equals 0.00!!! The busiest shopping time when a lot of purchases were made.... and not one penny was awarded in rebates!! When I inquired, I was given an online link to fill out forms with required details and proof of purchase!! This is ridiculous - very time consuming!!
I'm not talking about a missing purchase here or there - I'm talking about all of my purchases!! Since it's so tedious and time consuming to complete the online forms, I only completed and submitted 5 forms to see what results I would get. No reply and not one cent credited to my account. That was a waste of time to complete the online forms. Glad I only did 5 - and not 35!! Rakuten you are guilty of FALSE ADVERTISING and I don't understand how you are getting away with this scam!!

I have joined with Rakuten before few month back referring my boyfriends recommendation. I have done several purchases through the Rakuten (30$) within this period. Once I ask the bonus (after purchase more than 25$) they have informed you abuse the agreement & we deactivate all your related logins. With this action they have deactivate my account, my boyfriend's account & all referees account (around 10). Those all accounts has done purchases through Rakuten which gave income to them.
As per the terms they have right to deactivate any account, but we have right to as why? But still they failed to answer the reason for this case. They have closed the ticket without any feedback. Hopefully this can be happened many users, as they are deactivating accounts once we done purchases only. Not initially. Careful friends..

I decided to give this a try by purchasing an item the app advertised as being eligible for cash back. Not only did the purchase take forever to “clear”, but Rakuten now claims the purchase was never eligible for cash back in the first place. You have the option to dispute the purchase, however they make it difficult with an unusually long order ID that’s unable to be copied or pasted into their dispute form, requiring you to type it.
I decided this wasn't the service for me, especially if I have to micromanage every single purchase to make sure Rakuten is holding up their end of the deal. I asked them to delete my account and all associated data. Now I'm unable to stop receiving promotional emails because I have to log in to my already deleted account to change those preferences. I don't usually leave reviews, but every interaction with Rakuten has been a hassle. They really need to work on their Customer Experience. This was a complete waste of my money and time.

So, I like Rakuten. I really, really do. But I get pretty frustrated, on a regular basis. I do my shopping the way that I'm supposed to- I log in to Rakuten first, and then log in to my selected online store. When I'm done, a pop-up from Rakuten says that the cashback will be deposited into my account within a few days. But sometimes, and especially with bigger orders (read "bigger cash back"), that just. Doesn't. Happen. So I check My Shopping Trips periodically, to see if the cash back has been deposited (I do a lot of online shopping, so this gets pretty involved and time-consuming).
For example, on 12/22/2019, I ordered over $100.00 worth of flowers from 1800Flowers; at the time, the promo touted 30% cash back (that is some seriously big fish). So I bit. I ordered flowers for a friend in town, and for my sister in NJ. As of today, 1/30/2020, the cash back STILL HAS NOT BEEN DEPOSITED INTO MY ACCOUNT. I have contacted Rakuten (there is a not terribly helpful HELP button), and they have replied "We are only able to add Cash Back to your account when stores let us know about your order. We will contact the store to verify your order. It usually takes about 10 business days for us to hear back, but it may take up to 45 days".
The vendor (1800Flowers) has seriously reneged on what they said they would do, and I am in the meantime out about $30.00 that influenced my decision to order the flowers in the first place. And this is not the first time that it has happened -- 1800Flowers seems to be the biggest offender, as this scenario has been played out for me once before within the past six months. I seriously need to reconsider whom I am buying my flowers from, but Rakuten also needs to hold their vendors' feet to the fire, because ultimately, it leaves Rakuten with egg on their face, because they are not living up to their commitment either. So by all means, use Rakuten, but do your due diligence, because if you aren't watching, it's really easy to miss out on the cash that you have earned and that was promised to you.

They may not be a scam, but they are scammy. Literally EVERY order I've placed after logging into their site and linking to a merchant and making a purchase has not a automatically shown up. We're talking over 10 different sites. I have to contact them for 'missing credit' and the first 8x they gave me the credit and then later confirmed they heard from the seller. The 9th time they said what I bought from Amazon was completely ineligible (I was expecting 1% per their site). I have emailed them 7x asking why my purchases are never credit. They NEVER RESPOND!
My last purchase was 11 days ago and they still refuse to credit me for the purchase, even though I sent them the confirmation of purchase 11 days ago and they told me it would take up to 10 days to post (their site said it would post within 24 hours). So while the concept of Rakuten is nice, the amount of time and effort needed to get your cashback from them screwing you around makes it a giant hassle. But maybe that's the point.

I have used the app twice and 1st time I had to request my cash back. 2nd time I was supposed to get 5% and only got 1%. Had to provide details when I put in my request, which I did. They gave me the 1 % so they already had the details. After sending a request with the details I was asked to provide a screenshot of the transaction including how it got paid. I had been with Ebates and pretty much gave up on them because I rarely got anything back. I hope every time I use this I won't have to contact them for every transaction.

I referred my sister who downloaded and used this app several times for a fact, and has even gotten her big fat check before me. I have not been allotted my referral fee of $25 and it doesn't even show she exists by her email. when I use the horrifying app they have in place to deal with customers. And seems it’s the only was I get nowhere and what a waste of my time. I also referred a few more people and only one shows up as pending. Discouraged and not willing to deal with unjust and broken promises. Rakuten you need to step up your game. Shaking my head in disbelief. Don’t recommend referring for referral fee. It doesn't work. I used Ebates years ago and had a good experience with it - they tracked my purchases made through Ebates and paid me promptly. I had forgotten about using it until a year or so ago and began using it again. What a difference!! I would find only 10 or 20% of my purchases were being tracked. It was way too much trouble to keep track of information I would have to provide when I could figure out what was missing. I had hoped when it became Rakuten that it would change back to the great deal it used to be. Alas, I had approximately $2500 in purchases from spring to winter and received just over $5 in rebates! I made sure the popup said the purchase was recognized, but somehow it never made it to my records. Bah - I cancelled.

I bought a Jabra Elite 65T from Rakuten. Ordered it 12/8/19 received it 12/17/19. Tried it out and only works for 10 seconds after powering up. I tried powering down then up, updating firmware and still it only works for 10 seconds and then sound stops. Contacted rakuten on 12/18 and was told that they received my message and will contact Jabra. That was it until I contacted them again on 12/23. Again, I was told that they will reach out to the merchant and will have a response by 12/27 and if there is no response from the merchant, they will take independent action.
When I asked about what independent action would be, it is: "we’ll step in and find you a resolution. That may include a pre-paid label for returns and full or partial refund, or any other reasonable solution based on our sole discretion." It's now the 29th and I have not heard from anyone again. Good thing it is only a $60 product. I can afford to lose that but will never shop at Rakuten ever again and will let everyone know to avoid the company. There's a reason why Amazon is the number 1 online retailer.

I ordered a TV from Rakuten through Electronics Express on 11/28. The TV came on 12/6 which is reasonable considering the Holiday Rush. But EE no longer double box their televisions and many panels including mine came with a defective/broken screen. When it came time to ask for the replacement, the entire thing was a cluster. I called EE at least 4 times and had to get Rakuten involved in order for them to initiate a return. I asked on 12/8. Rakuten and EE couldn't get a person to pick it up until 12/20. Ridiculous. In addition, EE refuses to send me a replacement until they receive the TV which won't be until 1/3 at least. Who knows when the TV will actually arrive. Rakuten does not advocate for their customers instead they are just acting like a middle man. They won't engage with their merchants to provide better customer service. Their communication is awful and I will not shop at Rakuten again.

I had signed up a friend in order to claim the 25$ cash back deal they have going on, but 1 day later the money from my account seems to be missing. The 10 dollar welcome bonus on my friends account is also gone. So now Ive spent 155 dollars with about 10 dollars in cash back, of which should of been 45+. Pretty okay website, awful way to deal with "suspicious" behavior, Lets remove their money without telling them why and move on with it. If youre looking for any decent amount of cash back, dont use this website.

I have to call and ask where my refund is on almost every purchase. Choice Hotels, Lowe's, Vital Sleep, Money Gram, and the list goes on. Rakuten is always quick to add the missing funds if I complain. I seem to get more irritated by using Rakuten than it is worth.

I guess when a company get this big and made all that money from MEMBERS tends to forget or don't give a damn about the peoples who supported and help to get it this far. Shame shame. Rakuten will basically steal your money if you refer enough people to cost them money, even when the referrals are legit. I would not recommend using the website to shop for cashback or to refer anyone, unless you want to lose all your existing and pending cashback and the person you referred as well.

I will be very honest with my review. I ordered a Pixel 3 from Rakuten. After using it for a week I didn't like it and decided to return. I opened a return request stating that I found a better price. But then after I realize that there's a 15% restocking fee I decided to keep the pixel but I did not cancel the return request. After a week my phone started flashing continuously. I tried I tried to reset but it did not help. When I googled I found that it is an existing issue with many pixel 3 phones then I decided to return the phone. Since I did not close my previous return request, rakuten charged me 15% restocking fee and on top of that I had to pay $23 for return shipping. I tried to explain them many times, they didn't understand my issue and they decided not to refund the restocking. Since FLickering is pixel 3's well known issue, Rakuten should have treated my return under defective equipment category and shouldn't have charged restocking fees.

I joined Rakuten.com for the cashback program and immediately purchased things from stores through them, earning the $10.00 bonus for joining. I then referred my Sister who also joined and right away started purchasing from stores for Christmas through Rakuten.com. Rakuten gave my Sister the $10.00 Bonus for joining and gave me the $25.00 for the referral and then immediately took the $10.00 from my Sister and the $25.00 Bonus from me AS WELL AS MONEY HONESTLY EARNED THROUGH EBAY PURCHASE DISAPPEARING AS WELL.
I emailed them asking why and to please give it back to me as I honestly earned that bonus for the referral. They emailed me back a very generic response telling me they would look into it and get back to me. Needless to say no one ever got back to me after that. If you join this company plan on only being paid a small percentage, not even a quarter of what they promise. And if you refer a friend for the $25.00 bonus plan on doing it just because and with no expectations of receiving anything or them giving it and then taking it right away! They are liars and frauds in my eyes and in my sisters eyes!!! Just read the other feedbacks!!! Extremely justified for sure! As I told Rakuten via email; I pride myself on honesty and fairness. Guess we don't share the same values!

At first I liked Rakuten. I shopped from Microsoft, Macy's, IHerbs and other stores. But when I earned $ 240, they blocked my account and the account of my friends, whom I referred Rakuten. They just got % from the store where I made the purchase and canceled all our membership. And didn’t send anything!

I used this company for less than a year. I made several online purchases through them so I can supposedly earn "cash back". My account states that I have earned $131 and it will be deposited to my Paypal account on November 11th, 2019. Well it's December 4th, 2019 and I'm three emails and two unanswered phone calls later trying to get my money!!! Do not use this scam company. You will not receive your "cash back" but I can guarantee you they will keep their money for transferring you to the participating merchants websites. Please spread the word about this scam company.

I have been attempting to get information for an issue with my password. In trying to change my password I use the code sent to me, and I keep getting a message to enter the code. After attempting several times over a few week period I attempted to contact Rakuten Customer Service. I received an email stating someone would contact me shortly, never to be contacted. Getting a check from them is another issue. I had never had a problem with Ebates.

As many other reviewers here have stated, back when it was Ebates, they were honest and you would actually get your cash back. Now that it is Rakuten I'm having similar experiences to others here reviewing. No cash back for multiple transactions. Having to follow up just to get the cash back etc. I'm done. Will not be using Rakuten and will tell EVERYONE about the scam they are running.

I have used Rakuten for more than a year now. They have been promoting on TV that you earn a lot back from purchasing online with them. However, that is not true at all. I placed my Christmas shopping with them for my Amazon orders totaling more than $200. I received a total of $2.53 for those orders. Wow what a savings. This is such a scam. I contacted customer service and they said that Amazon does not give much cash back rewards for their orders. I won't be using them anymore.

I have used Ebates/Rakuten for a long time, often with success, but the AMAZON link consistently has bugs. Order freezes, requires re-logging into Amazon but errors out when you put in your CORRECT passcode. Tried to order several things on Amazon this past weekend and the Rakuten session simply wouldn't let me do it. SO FRUSTRATING! After several attempts I was forced to order things without the promised cash back directly on amazon.com. Get your Amazon integration figured out... you are LOSING CUSTOMERS!!!

Their website allowed me to apply a coupon and now they do not honor it. When I requested cancellation they say, "Product shipped so you will incur fees based on order cancellation policy of seller" - HORRIBLE. I should have the full right to cancel an order if what I purchased for is an error in their system and they cannot honor it. Their seller iElectrica is even more HORRIBLE. Both customer services are rude and their cancellation policy is not properly defined and causes pain to customers. WATCH OUT. Don't be fooled by their low prices.

I shop on eBay a lot. They used to give 2% cash back. Now it is only !%. I used to think it was worth it, but not anymore. People shop on ebay, and it's a shame that they can not give more than 2% back on purchases. Even on Bonanza it is only 2.5%.

Much like other one-star reviews, I am a long-time Ebates user. This time around I received an unsolicited offer from Rakuten to receive 11% rebated on various purchases. I went to the Hanes website, bought what I needed and waited for confirmation. Now several weeks later on the Rakuten website, I see that Hanes will not rebate me anything. I wrote the customer service folks and they told me that I needed to send them a bunch of information in order for them to look into it. This is a fraud. Either the money is to be rebated or they should not offer. Why Hanes would deny the offer, who knows? Why I as the customer need to do the leg work makes me less likely to use the Rakuten service in the future.

Purchased over $1500 from Saks with a 11% cash back. They added less than $4 to my account. I sent a note to support, sent the order confirmation from Saks and then was told I would have to wait 45 days for confirmation from the store? What? I sent all the proof, showed that I did the shopping through Rakuten. I don't see how this is allowed or tolerated. I will be deleting my account and all my data.

Updated on 11/15/2019: I contacted customer service by phone. The lady I spoke with was very nice/helpful. This issue is resolved. I am upgrading my review to a 3 pending resolution of the other issues. Recommend contacting Rakuten by phone for any difficulties with the app or cash back missing.
Original Review: I've been using eBates / Rakuten now for several months and have been very happy with the cash back offered and received. Lately I noticed that cash back on purchases was missing, but thought maybe I forgot to go thru the app, although very careful to ensure that I do. My last purchase was with Moosejaw with 9 % cash back. I waited, and waited, and waited and finally saw that on my Rakuten, I received no cash back, although I received and saved the email confirming my order. I contacted Rakuten and they were less than helpful; was told that they would investigate but couldn't provide cash back unless the store confirmed the order. If this is not resolved in a timely manner I will no longer use Rakuten and notify my friends and family to buyer beware.
