On the main page (non-subscriber) when looking for carpet cleaners in Grand Junction, Colorado at the beginning of the page they show 34 "CARPET CLEANERS TO AVOID", and 17 "TOP RATED CARPET CLEANERS" (they list only how many, not the names) which totals 51. Toward the bottom of the page in green print they have "ALL CARPET CLEANERS IN GRAND JUNCTION, CO" with the total being 51. Webster defines "all" as "The entire number of." I know for a fact not "ALL" Grand Junction carpets cleaners are listed. Therefore, their claim is FALSE! Called customer service/member care and got the run around speaking to about 4 different customer care reps. and 3 supervisors. Was hung up on a couple of times and had to call back. I was on the phone with them for over 1.5 hours. They refused to answer all questions: such as "What does ALL mean?" And claimed: "All" is for just the ones they list.

When asked why they don't just say "ALL THE CARPET CLEANERS WE LIST..." No viable response was given. Those who view Angie's List are DECEIVED by the wording thinking "all" the carpet cleaning companies are listed when in fact they are NOT! Additionally, between the "run-around" and being interrupted constantly: Angie's List deliveries VERY POOR customer service. They seemed more interested in justifying themselves than listening to the customer and improving!

I impulsively subscribed to Angie's List because I'd heard good things, and I wanted to check local reviews. After paying, (I never established a password) I clicked on an entry. The free reviews I'd seen online were far better, and Angie's List was showing me hair salons 40 miles away. I immediately tried to cancel. I was given a cool polite offer to cancel my membership for NEXT year. I did this twice with the same result. I had only had the subscription for a few minutes. Then I posted their quote: “If you purchase a year membership and are unhappy with our service, we'll refund your purchase - 110%. It's our goal to make our members happy. :)” Funny thing. My refund came through immediately. I consider this deceptive. My advice: Check reviews for Angie's List online! And use the 110% promise if you're not happy.

I posted a negative review of Las Colinas of Westover Hills in San Antonio, Tx. A rip-shod medical rehab facility. Days went by and all I could see on Angie's List was the name of the company. No grade was posted and the review count was set at 0 - why? People searching the list would see no grade & 0 reviews and move on. I kept writing in to customer service via their web site and also made calls to their toll free number. Was told that it would take time for the "review" team to analyze. I paid $29.99 for the PLUS subscription that gives access to medical info.

Finally - after about a week - I got hold of an honest employee that said Angie's List does not like to print a single review if it's the 1st one and it's negative? If the company did a lousy job (and they did) - what should it matter? I cancelled my subscription and was told $$$ for the basic and plus subscription would be refunded to my PayPal account. I then became suspicious and googled Angie's List. Was surprised to see how this company fleeces customers and contractors. Do not waste your time and $$$ on Angie's List.

So I just discovered Angie's List for businesses is a scam! Basically you have to get your current or past clients to join their membership in order for them to give you a review. Until then your business will not show up when members are searching for your service you provide. But this is not what they told me when I started. They said even outside reviews would get me on the list. So I did that. Got a few awesome reviews from my very sweet, kind clients. Called to check my status, and now they tell me the real truth...... They have to be or become a PAID member in order for my reviews to count. REALLY???? A shady, small pyramid scheme maybe. I don't know but this world becomes more and more dishonest and ugly everyday. BEWARE OF ANGIE'S LIST!!!!

Angie's List does nothing to prevent a competitor from taking the identity of a business with a good review and changing the information so that future referrals come to the fraudulent competitor. It seems that a web-referral site would be certain that the business they refer to is in fact that business that earned the good review and not some thief, business troll who lurks on Angie's List.

I have a small business in Austin TX and we have tried to be very calculated in where we spend our marketing dollars. We had a couple of our clients leave us A+ reviews on Angie's List so we started receiving calls from the marketing department of Angie's List soliciting us to do advertising with them. It sounded like a good opportunity being that they have so many paying subscribers in our market. Before I agreed to commit I was receiving 1-2 calls a week like clockwork from ** the salesman. Past me signing up NO ONE has called me. They took my money and made me sign a one year agreement then vanished.

When I called in after several weeks of no contact I got attitude from the "manager," basically telling me that they would not give me another rep and that they would contact me when they got around to it. ** is my rep and I still have not ever once talked to her going on two months now. This place is the worst kind of joke imaginable in that they steal your money as well as give the worst service possible. I would never do business with this company. I have been approached by their account reps on numerous occasions to advertise in their publications and have always politely refused. Their selling point was that they have many calls for people that could use my service. The last time they contacted me I turned them down again due the cost. I have noticed the referrals have stopped since January. I sincerely believe this is due to my not buying their advertising.

As soon as we declined to renew our advertising, we suddenly got a dissatisfactory rating posted to our page that is actually for another company not ours. We posted a detailed reply explaining the rating was not for our company and outlining the information. We contacted Angie's List. They made us submit all our company ownership papers and after several months of review and delay they relocated the listing to the correct company. Last month, when we did not renew our advertising contract, Angie's List suddenly placed the same review for the other company back on our page and simultaneously removed the reply we had made. They have now contacted us repeatedly via email and phone call to solicit advertising. They are attempting to bully our company into advertising with them.

I put my business of 21 yrs on Angie's List 4 years ago. They immediately bombarded me with solicitation calls and emails wanting me to advertise with them for approximately $5500 a year. All of my business comes from word-of-mouth from completely satisfied customers. The rep told me they would give the same advertising package for $2100 with many promises. I decided to advertise with them and it was a huge waste of money. After the year was over the bombardment of calls and emails continued. I asked and replied to emails to 'Please remove me from all call and email lists'. No success. I called and spoke with a supervisor today and ask for my company profile (which has nothing but A reviews) to be removed from Angie's List. He said that they would not do that.

I understand if a bad company wants to be removed and try to hide from the consumer but I have an outstanding reputation with the BBB, all municipalities that I work in, etc. I am not trying to hide from anyone. I just do not want to be associated with this company anymore. They told me that they could remove my company from the search engines and it could only be seen if someone searched for the name of my company specifically. BUT they post a notification on my company's profile explaining why the company was excluded from search results which some consumers could deem bad.

The only advice that I can give to any credible company that is thinking about joining Angie's List, DON'T DO IT. I am searching for any groups or individuals that have had the same problem so that possible legal action could take place. I don't think that Angie, founder of the company, wanted this business to end up the way that it has. I will file a complaint with the BBB as well and post my story anywhere that I can.

In conducting searches through Google, I find several companies which are also on the Waco Angies List, but were not included in my search results. It took several times to adjust the filters to figure out why all companies were not showing up, and it was then that I was hit up with a charge to access those. What a crock!

Why would I pay to access these companies' information through Angies List when I can Google them (for FREE), and if nothing else, they are listed as belonging to Angies List which shows me they are accredited, recommended, etc. I wonder if these companies who are paying for advertising know their companies are not being listed unless someone pays to see their information. Hmmm... bad deal. I won't be using Angies List. BEWARE, you are not seeing all those companies when you search... unless you pay to access it. I did not have any luck with getting someone I wanted and so pursued other avenues all of which were very helpful. I wrote Angie's list and told them I did not want to use their services and forgot about it, until my credit card was charged automatically for renewal. I would advise anyone contemplating using this service to refrain from using them. There are other services out there, some that are even free and I have had much better luck using them. The saga continues because I still don't have an answer on the dispute. I am sure the Credit Card companies know about this company's practices. I had already spent 2 conversations being nice and delaying assisting my customers in person for her spiel.

Today after she contacted my manager and tried to pressure him into the same thing he politely excused himself from the call for an upcoming appointment in 5 minutes. The representative was so offended that we had a CUSTOMER to take care of that she sent us this email. "I'm shocked by the way our conversation ended. We are looking to feature a company that shows our Members respect and provides excellent service. That's why we initially called you. I'll note our conversation and proceed on my end. Make it a great day." We don't need you wasting our time on a product we did NOT solicit, nor do we need your staff sending rude emails because we have ruined her quota for the day.

My company was approached by Angie's List sales department. We told them that our company was struggling and needed some advertising that would have quick results. They assured us that we would be at the top of the list and that we would see a marked (75% or more) increase in calls within a three month period if we would sign on to their program. We agreed and they started billing us $750.00 per month. It took three months before we showed up as promised. In the following month we received just one Angie's list referral and that was from a past customer of ours. Prior to signing up we had a "A" rating on their list.

At this point our company was doing so poorly we decided to close the doors. When I contacted the agent who identified herself as **, she told me that we could not expect to see any results for at least one year. This is just the opposite of what she had promised. We told her that we were closing our doors and at that point the friendliness ended and we were told that we would be billed for early withdrawal for 30% of the contract fee. This was additional $2000.00 plus the three months they had already collected. When we refused to pay they took the money from our credit card account. I would advise anyone who is thinking of getting involved with this criminals to think hard and long. The only difference between Angie's list and a bank robber is the mask.

I absolutely loathe what they've become. I sympathize with the businesses being harassed. I'm not a business but a consumer tired of the way companies act these days. I signed in to cancel our account. I took the time to itemize some of the reasons why and I didn't care about getting a refund. I requested the representative to not defend the site. But he/she/or it copied a scripted response. I said, "If you won't cancel it, I'd change my password" (I didn't say to something so ludicrous I wouldn't remember it) because if either of us accidentally tried to sign in and had to reset the password, it would be enough of a reminder to not reset it and, therefore, not post a thing.

If I cannot post a negative response about a company without fear of retribution, that website becomes useless. If policies are hidden so businesses can be harassed by them, I will not deal with them. Unfortunately, American workers (I assume they do provide jobs to them) will again suffer. But if you don't trust a company and don't trust a review, the website is worthless.

Sarasota's Wentzel Heating and AC recently received the Angie's List Superior Service Award. My experience with them = they were installing insulation in a home next to mine by pumping from a truck in the street to the home. The noise and both the smell and chemical experience were horrendous, causing painful watering of the eyes and nose and irritation to the throat. I called to inquire how long this would go on and was responded to by one of their representatives - "this would go on for perhaps 14 hours" and that it was just too bad for me. I should shut my windows and shouldn't walk my dog and he was sorry I was such a poor neighbor and that he wouldn't want to live next door to me. I was truly shocked that this individual would not apologize nicely for causing me any problems and offering any relief or consolation.

As it turns out, the next day, the truck was parked up near the house instead of in the street. Their next day activities were not obtrusive at all. Now why didn't the company just do this in the first place, and why didn't the representative apologize and suggest they could at least partially remedy the problems by moving the truck? The problem could have been solved easily and nicely, and the problem eventually was. Too bad their representative was so poor at consumer relations. I was surprised to see Angie's List give them such an award.

I did exactly that and in one case offered to assist the member but never received contact back nor was the damaging review removed; this review was clearly untrue, fraudulent and slanderous to our company which could cause great damage to our reputation. Angie's List was supplied all our information to show we were telling the truth.

They replied by saying we're not a mediator and they don't own the review the customer does and we can't get involved so the review stays. I responded that they must as a company have some responsibility for the honesty and integrity of what was posted and the response was the same - Angie's List feels they have no responsibility for the damage to a company’s reputation due to untruths at all. I was told if their customer says it true then they are allowed to post it and they do not need any proof whatsoever. Instead of helping the consumer to choose a reputable company for their product they are misleading the members with bogus reviews!!!

I am the owner of an established and reputable business in the Chicago area. We have had calls from Angie's List representatives for the past year, attempting to convince us to sign a yearly contract and PAY for business leads. After a year of calls from their sales people, I was interested in hearing what they had to say, so I took the time this morning to hear them out. On a sidebar, I thought it was ironic and timely, as I actually watched one of their commercials on television last night.

The contradiction: The commercial, as they have always touted, is that Angie's List is different. The homeowner signs on for an annual membership of $35.00 to locate highly-rated contractors in their area to provide services. The fact that they are (now) attempting to get contractors to PAY THEM for business leads is contrary to their advertising campaigns. In the past, they have slammed HomeAdvisor for their business model (yes, they are bad!) for having a system where the contractor is actually paying for internet generated leads (or should I write desperate business owners, that need customers!), versus Angie's List, where they will have the homeowner paying for annual memberships.

By doing so, these homeowners will obtain the Angie's List of reputable, licensed contractor. Ha, that's bunk! Frankly, a well-established business DOES NOT need Angie's List for their little projects. Now, contrary to their advertising, they are going after and using the disreputable Boogie-Man, aka HomeAdvisor's method of business, by getting the contractor to pay for leads. Based upon what I read on this site, it's obvious that both models have not been working for them and they are nose-diving into business failure and extinction.

Consumers have jumped ship and discovered that they DO NOT like Angie's List to find local and reputable business contractors and reputable contractors have found that they were scammed and DID NOT receive the leads promised by Angie's List to generate new business. Either way, it simply does not work. Thank you Consumer Affairs for this internet forum - I sincerely mean it! It has saved me from making a huge mistake many times in the past and I hope your site continues to saves others like me both as a homeowner and a business owner.

Then, I read about a woman who was sued for posting on Angie's List. I contacted Angie's List and inquired about my post and the position that Angie's List would take if a member were sued for posting valid negative comments. I was told that I was on my own. Angie's List would not become involved. I pointed out that Angie's List had encouraged me both by email and during phone conversations to post the negative comments. I cancelled my membership in 2013.

In 2014, Angie's List automatically charged my credit card and I had to get the charge removed. They have just automatically charged my credit card again; and I have had to ask the credit card company to block them from making any charges to my account. I would suggest that all previous members check your credit card statements to make see if you are being charged by Angie's List after you cancel your membership.

We were threatened by a customer before we even went on the job. We went anyway (our mistake) did the basic work and got things running again - they didn't like cost or the amount of additional work needed. They call someone else and used the information gained from us to achieve a better price - reducing the work by the other vendor. Reported us to Angie's List and wanted the entire fee returned for the work we did do. AL told us if we resolved - customer would be required to regrade us and that we may not be eligible for their Super Service Award. They also asked if we would allow for publication in their magazine of the resolution. We said no.

1 year later - apparently a slow news day - they published anyway with a 1 sided version of the issue - we settled based on extortion and they made the extortionist famous. I guess that really made AL look good. What was really ironic is that we were on the Honor Roll in the same issue. When I called they said 'read the contract' (referring to the resolution agreement). Apparently, our word has to be good but theirs does not. Use caution.

I have heard that Angie's List helps the consumer but I have found just the opposite. Firstly, I was asked to create a free account in order to enter the site, which is understood and typically standard practice - but not in this case. Once I created the account, I was routed and rerouted and rerouted to a page that insists I pay for the service in order to read the reviews. This would also be fine except there is an explanation stating I Don't Have to be a Member. One screen states, "Membership awaits! Please complete your membership to access thousands of local reviews, discounts and services, and our complaint resolution team. Join Now. If you choose not to join at this time, you will remain signed up to receive email updates from Angie's List." Be warned - there is No Way to navigate around this screen so you must "Join Now" which brings up the pay table, hit the back arrow or exit the screen and start over.

I opted to exit the site, and start over. Upon navigating to the site again, I saw that I was "signed in," and was permitted to search for deals. In this manner, I purchased two deals for home service: one for installing a fan at 35% off, and the other for servicing my H.V.A.C., at 65% off. I paid via PayPal with no issues whatsoever or reference to needing a paid account. However, when I checked my PayPal account, I was charged full price for the "Deal." Additionally, the service companies sent me an email to confirm the date of the service; but in order for me to reply, I had to go back into Angie's List and Pay to Read the Emails!

So now I'm charged almost $200.00 more than I was supposed to be charged and in order to move forward, I must pay more to become a member! Wow! This is the shady, underhand and slimy type of behavior Angie's List was supposedly set up to avoid. Shame on you. My boyfriend and I are looking to add on to our ranch-style home with a simple master bedroom going up with the structure. The first person I spoke to clearly didn't want to do the work once I told him that I found his information through Angie's List. He told me that generally speaking general contractors will give you a price based on $150 per square foot with a minimum of 1000 square feet so he wasn't interested in doing anything that we wanted...only basically wanted to use us to fund his retirement fund (Note we paid $170K for the whole rest of the house).

He also asked if I had a engineer come out and look at doing drawings for the project. Since I had not, I asked him to recommend someone. He sent me an e-mail with the person's phone contact information. When I called the person, said that he had gotten other leads from Angie's List that went nowhere so he didn't have time to be kicking tires and then hung up on me.

Angie's List is supposed to be a resource for people who don't know where to begin to get an idea of experiences that other people have had with the services. When the people you contact flat out tell you that they don't want to do the work because of how you got their contact information, there is seriously something wrong with the way that Angie's List is being run for them to have that reaction.

My husband ** is a retired disabled veteran who does the actual cleaning and he does a very good job. We strive to give excellent customer satisfaction and we do. Angie's List hounded us for a year to sign up and pay to advertise. They guaranteed us a high ranking on their first page and they promised specialized care with an account manager who would ensure we got leads.

When they did not list us accurately and the acct manager hung up on us, we cancelled after only 3 days. Angie's List pulled our listing and does not even acknowledge us as a business in Birmingham even though we have excellent reviews. Angie's List is definitely not Customer driven. Only businesses that PAY are listed, so if you are looking for a good Carpet Cleaner or Contractor, I suggest you actually TALK to your neighbors to find out who is the best. Angie's List is unethical and their business model cannot last much longer. They cannot continue to say they are customer driven, but charge businesses for advertising. They are not a true review site, they are really an advertising/marketing company and need to be recognized as only that. Only paying businesses can be listed. If you are looking for a review on a company, try somewhere else.

The second purchase included work that needed more time than I had purchased, so I requested the handyman complete the work with extra payment. After the two hours I had initially purchased, I was told the handyman was no longer available for more work. So I was back on Angie's list looking for another worker. In addition, the work done included raising a bed, but two days later the bed was separated from the raised platform the handyman had fixed. My third experience was buying 2 hours work for 150 dollars.

Most of the work needed more time so I got the work done and turned out expensive. The payment was very unclear and according to the final invoice that came in two installments the handyman charged by the hour on day one, then by the work done on the second day, then by the hour on the third day. The worker sent by the handyman did not report the correct number of hours he had worked.

At the end of the day, Angie's list offer deals that are useless as they end up costing as much as any other business you would call for the service through the yellow pages. If you want to establish a new contact for services such as electrical, plumbing or carpentry when moving to a new city, Angie's list does not work when you get an electrician or plumber who can't come back to complete the work and you are back searching for another service agent. Besides, the rates are not discounted, rather, end up costing a whole lot more that you would pay from the yellow pages. Save yourself money and forget about Angie's list or their contractors/service providers. Better off going to your local hardware and requesting an electrician, carpenter or plumber.

We began to track the number of calls and asked the reps to please stop calling. They even threatened to revoke our super service award if we did not advertise with them. Unfortunately their business model doesn't work. (80% of Angies list income is from service providers.) This creates a frantic push upon their sales staff to generate more $ by harassing service providers. It is unfortunate dilemma because the concept is good for consumers.

But what they don't tell the consumers is that businesses MUST pay to be found on Angie's List. Businesses pay thousands of dollars a month to be on the first and second page of their field in the search lists. Hundreds to thousands more if they want the "Honor Roll" which they advertise to the consumers as they offered something special and were extra good companies. All they have to do is maintain A or B rating and they receive an invoice to be on the "Honor Roll."

First X number of companies to pay are granted the award. Something for all their other awards. And those Big Deal pricing... Did you know that Angie's List keeps 50-100% of that expecting the companies servicing them to provide the service for 1/2 off to free? When asked how they are supposed to stay in business offering these, their response was "Up sell when you get there, and if they don't need anything else, make them think they need something else." Then they tell their consumers that they will get discounts off discounted rates without the business owners approval then tell the business owner who has already vested thousands or tens of thousands of dollars in them that they must approve or they will be removed.

The whole concept of Angie's List is a scam. They may have set out to do it right to begin with, but they don't anymore. The people at Angie's List don't lift a finger for the businesses or consumers without making money, big money. It should be illegal, but somehow, they get away with it. In the end, when the consumer buys products from Angie's List businesses, they will pay 20-40% higher than they need too because the costs of Angie's List have to be made up somewhere. I know this because I've been paying them now for 2 years and every time someone says they found me on Angie's List, I cringe and know my prices have to go up for them. Especially if they bought a "Big Deal" which I haven't even authorized. My contract is finally coming to an end and I can free up a ton of advertising money.

My advise to consumers, if you want a good company and insist on using Angie's List, go to the bottom of the listing... example you need a plumber, go to the last plumber listed with an A rating with only 1 or two reviews and call him. He hasn't been on Angie's List long enough to get caught up in the routine of paying thousands of dollars yet so you might actually still get a good deal from him. Also NEVER buy a Big Deal. You can always get a bigger deal from calling the company direct.

My advise to businesses, when you start getting the 900 calls a week from Angie's List trying to sign you up because one of their customers gave you an A rating, don't. They will sucker you in with a low price of advertising them, then before you know it like they are like a vacuum cleaner on a dirt hill. You'll suddenly realize all of your marketing money is gone and your prices have had to go up 20% just to make a profit.

I had to use my time/energy to follow through with Angie's List to get the services I paid for. With the window cleaning, someone from Angie's List called shortly after my purchase, and I told the representative I hadn't heard from the company. After that, I get an email from Angie's List apologizing for my experience and said their Ecommerce Department would contact me within two days. That was Dec. 30th, and today, 1/15, haven't heard from them. Will NEVER buy anything through Angies' List and won't renew membership!

Overall, it did not go well for us. We chose to pay over 500 per month for advertising with Angieslist. Angieslist told us that we could expect 4 to 6 calls a day from advertising with them. Once our advertising began we did not see any results. We waited for a month with no change and then AngiesList told us that creating Store Front offers with them would help, so we created 5 of them. We were also told to wait until our magazine ad was published and we did. We waited over a month and still did not have any business from advertising with AngiesList.

We were then told we should run some AngiesList Big Deals to help generate some reviews for our business. Angieslist said that more reviews would help us get more business from advertising with them. So, we ran some Big Deals where AngiesList made money from them but it was at a loss on our end. We did a total of 12 Big Deals. This was going on our second month and to date we had only gotten one paying job from advertising with AngiesList. Our phone was not ringing. The Big Deals were done at a loss for us and we only did them to help get more reviews, however, we only got 1 review from doing 12 Big Deals.

AngiesList then stated that they would run their fetch a review program. They said it takes about 3 weeks. We waited 3 weeks and only got 1 more review. At this point we had to make the decision to stop paid advertising with Angieslist. They had made over 2000 dollars from us and we had received only 1 profitable job from advertising with them. We felt like we consistently got the run around. Their response was always to do something, which we did, or that it takes time to see results. However, with the amount of time it was taking we would wind up going out of business. Our advertising dollars are much better spent elsewhere, which is the reason we stopped paid advertising with Angieslist.

Also, note that when we were paying for advertising we were in the top 3 of the search results for our area consistently. Which, just proves to us that Angieslist advertising just wasn't worth what they were charging us. We wanted to share our story to shed some insight for other businesses who were considering paid advertising with Angieslist. For us it was not worth it and at the least we would advise you to be very cautious.

The member can fill page after page with nonsense, in fact they can take so many pages that no one can see anything else but their compliant. Good Bye to all you excellent ratings. Once the complaint is filed you have specific time period to respond and defend yourself through Angies paper work and their schedule. The pressure is to settle regards of the nonsense. If you do not, regardless of your previous ratings you are removed from the list and but in a penalty box.

Here where it gets nasty - If you mention that you previous informed the member, that if they did not stop their harassment you would take legal action to force them to stop. To Angie that is a legal threat. You will then get an email from SP Integrity, (which just happens to be AngiesList employees) stating that if you take legal action you will be removed from the list. Angie wants to affect your rights and change common law.

Considering that I did mention legal action and did not take kindly to their Threats Angie has removed us from the list. For the record, we have an A rating with Angie for twenty years. We have recently won the Super Service Award. Which we do every year. All of that is worth nothing!

Angie's List sales rep reached out to me to work a sale so that I could pull up on their search results as a top contractor. Finally, on a Sunday evening I received a call from Rick ** for the umpteenth time to push the sale through. I told him "okay", and that I was willing to give it a shot for 2-3 months to see if it would provide any benefit.

I was EXPLICIT with him that if after 60-90 days I didn't see any results, I would pull the plug. He said he understood and assured me that I would see huge results. They run a fancy system of metrics and algorithms that tell you how much industry revenue is generated in your area and convince you that you're missing out on it, but once you sign with them it's all yours. This is not the case.

I let the scam run on for over 4 months and only received 2 phone calls. One was an easy quick repair that generated $85, the other was a complete beatdown of price negotiations - all for $125 repair. I called up to Angie's List and told them I was cutting them off for the following 2 reasons: The phone calls did not come in droves as promised. I was not a priority search as promised.

This, however is not the reason for the review. The REASON for the review is because shortly after canceling, I was nailed with a 500 DOLLAR cancellation fee that they automatically hit to my bank account. My ROI was RED before, now it was BLOOD RED. I quickly called Chase Bank to tell them that fraud had been committed - they canceled the card and were about to reimburse me when I told them I didn't want Chase's money - I wanted MY money from Angie's List. I was then transferred to the Chase collections department where we phone conferenced in to Angie's List customer service. We were told that they would do an "investigation" into it and would reach back out to us on Friday of the same week. It's been 8 weeks and no one has followed up with us. I emailed my account "manager" to no avail and their customer service has been unresponsive. It's ironic - Angie's list is service company with service providers and their customer service, communication and transparency is TERRIBLE.

I'm in property management and have used their many vendors over the year. Some were good, some not so good. But that's not Angie's List's fault, or is it? Well I hired a septic tank company that did horrible work for one of clients. They did not do the job and therefore I hired another and reported it to Angie's List. I started getting emails refuting that validity of my review. It was escalated to higher up where they agreed it was an accurate review. 4 months later I get a call from Angie's List again and someone else within Angie's List reverse my review. As a business owner I'm aware the more advertisement you pay for the more they assist in cleaning off bad reviews. I had 3 removed for my business. So this really bad septic tank company remains with great ratings, however when I posted they had many. Now they were all gone. All they see is a couple F reviews that have nothing to do with my performance. My business has tanked because of this. And now I have extremely bad feelings for Angie's List. I will be canceling my Angie's List account on Monday. At least Yelp has the good sense to automatically filter out the crackpot reviewers. I am a builder in the Dallas Ft Worth area in Texas. Angie's list posts an F rating on my company because a dishonest, disgruntled customer decided she wanted to damage our reputation. Our side of the dispute doesn't make a difference to Angie. We did our best to work something out with this customer to no avail and she decided she wouldn't pay us. I warned the customer with plenty of notice that I would pull my crew off the job if she didn't pay the agreed amount. She refused. This same customer went on Angie's list and rated our company with an F rating. Our side of the dispute did not matter.

At one time Angie's reps told me the person was not a member and no one would see the complaint. The disgruntled customer joined Angie's list after that and now it looks like our company is nothing but a dishonest fly by night. Angie's reps told me the only way I could change the rating is if I recruited some of my good customers to pay Angie a monthly fee and then they could get my rating up by writing good things about our company. I have and maintain an A+ rating with the BBB in Tarrant County. They don't allow a mad customer to ruin a company's reputation on 1 complaint like Angie's list does and then want you to recruit your customers to join for a fee to offset the bad complaint received. I am absolutely disgusted with Angie's list and the way they do business.

Well, I knew there weren't 57 hypnotherapists in my city, but I figured they would list some who were in nearby cities. After paying both the basic membership fee and an additional fee to use the healthcare list, I discovered that most of the listings were far away -- too far to be practical for visiting, say, once a week. In addition, the list of "top rated" people included an acting coach. That acting coach may use hypnosis in coaching, but that doesn't make him/her a hypnotherapist. Angie's list may be useful if you're looking for a house painter or plumber, but I recommend you do NOT sign up just to use it to search for more specialized services.

First, we would like to thank you for taking the time out of your busy day to read this. We hope that our professionalism, integrity and honesty will help you in making the decision to hire us.

Angie's List (AL) is a ONE-sided company. We were Service Providers (SP) up until October 13, 2014 but no longer hold that position as Angie's List has made the decision to "excluded us from category and keyword searches and maintain our ineligibility to advertise or obtain a Super Service Award". This decision was made through the Angie's List SP Integrity Department because we "stood up" for our Company by responding to a review that was recently placed on our page.

AL states that they have an open forum when it comes to reviews, however that is a COMPLETE & BLATANT lie. AL allows the Members to write whatever they want, whenever they want and about whomever (SP) they want even if it is NOT the truth.

Example #1. If A Member states that they called a SP and that SP did not return the call, AL permits that Member to write an "F" review...

Example #2. Members are allowed to upload pictures along with their review, but what do the SP get? Oops, nothing! SP are only allowed to reply to the review in writing but at NO TIME are SP allowed to upload any before and after pictures.

Example #3. Member's Refund... SP do not deal with refunds if we have not performed any work. That is the SOLE responsibility of AL. A few times we have had to provide refunds directly through AL for different reasons (scheduling problems or project not under our "scope of work") but did you know that Member Services will tell the Member that they HAVE TO provide an "C-F" rating for a refund? Yes, that is correct! A Member MUST provide an "C-F" rating in order to escalate their refund request... So in the meantime, the SP's overall rating and reputation are damaged while AL verifies information from both parties, (sometimes this can take weeks) so in the meantime, if another Member views our profile, they view these "F" ratings.

Example #4. Members are permitted to write a review on a SP even though it is the wrong Company they are writing a review about. Yes, this has happened several times. Members have called in or emailed a review on L&D Renovations when we don't even know of this Member. In fact, after receiving a recent "F" review, we contacted AL and explained that the Member made a mistake in the SP's name, but nothing was done. We had to actually visit this Member's home only to find out that this Member DID hire a SP (Not us) and when she requested a review form to fill out, AL emailed her one with our name on it. Not noticing that the SP name was incorrect, she completed the review and submitted same. It is too late now, but it took us to drive to her home and request that the Member retract her review. Again, AL did NOTHING! It's pretty sad that we had to take time out of our busy schedule to track down a Member to save our **!

Example #5. The last 'F" review, dated September 30, 2014 was the review that made us write "Our View On Angie's List". This Member lied throughout his entire review and AL did nothing to stop it. When we called him "out on it", that is when L&D Renovations' contract was terminated. He stated the following but "for some unknown reason" this Member's review has been deleted, however our response is still up for Members to view... I guess, he figured out that he was caught in several lies.

Member Comments: I called to find out if they were available, they said they could go over the house, give a price and then go to work the next day. My fear was because they had a $250 coupon that their rates would be jacked up to give the appearance they were giving you a discount. Prior to them coming we had gotten prices from both Lowe's and Home depot so we had an idea. Their charges would have been 3 times the amount the store would have charged me. So much for coupons and deals, it would have worked out to over $100 hour per worker. Good money.. It was strange when I asked if I should buy the coupon online, she was insisted that they would just give me the discount and not to worry purchasing it online with Angie's?? Strange. We refused to do work with them, if they can't be trusted with the little things how could you trust them with the big things... Beware of folks bearing gifts, be a smart consumer and know what other charge!!!!!

F.Y.I. Members pay a annual fee $40.00 (sometimes changes), but did you know how much a SP pays? Thousands a month! To upload our SP's information without any advertising, that's free. Advertising rates depend upon what the SP wants... (We have paid $60 - $160 per month). Now for the Member's Big Deals, that is where the fees go "through the roof". Those fees range from 25% - 50%... (The most we have paid is 40%)... Oh, but wait... SP cannot offer Big Deals unless we advertise. You see Members, when you buy a big deal, we DO NOT get all of the money... Yes, that is correct. When a Member purchases a Big Deal, the credit card information is given DIRECTLY to AL. We, the SP do not see that information WHATSOEVER!

Example #1. A Member purchases a Big Deal for $149.00; SP only receives $89.40.

Example #2. A Member purchases a Big Deal for $250.00 for $500.00 worth of labor; SP only receives $150.00.

Example #3. A Member purchases a coupon for $1000.00 for an interior paint project; SP only receives $750.00.

Now, with all that said, I would like to state that AL's concept works. Members have saved money, while, yes we the SP's also made money. However it is time that Members know what truly goes on "behind closed door". AL's only takes care of their Members. Angie herself should realize that without her SP's she wouldn't have the business (money) she has now. Yes, she also needs Members, however Angie is not "laughing all the way to the bank" from the Member's money, it is the SP fees that help her do that.

Oh, and SP's can't even talk or email Angie directly. We do not have the right to know or are NOT important enough for that. We know that not all people act in the same manner and most Homeowners realize that some projects do not "go as planned".

He bitched and whined the whole time about the job but said he would be back the next day but needed to be an hour earlier and I agreed.

He never showed up the next day and left my dogs without someone to feed and walk them. I called him and he started yelling at me saying he never agreed to the entire 7 days. I reminded him of the emails we exchanged and he threatened to report me to the humane society for the way I cared for my dogs. I ignored that because the dogs had just been to the vet and both dogs are kept better than most people are. I wrote a truthful review of my experience on Angie's list, just as I have here. The guy who is the walker is an ex-lawyer and he has sent me 2 Legal Threats demanding that I remove my review as it is causing him loss of business! I contacted Angie's List and was told that they were not going to do anything about it, but I could remove my review if I wanted to! Now isn't that fraudulent advertising and practice?

I tried to get back into Angie's list site to remove the review to prevent this jerk from suing me for slander and they locked me out even though I had paid through the end of December. I have now hired a lawyer to take care of the mess! Need I say more?

He doesn't remember where he packed the list, or didn't use the labels I gave him to pack things in order. Broke bottom of sofa and I didn't even need the sofa moved. Broke apart bookcases and I didn't need the bookcases moved or anything that was moved into the garage.

I just needed the things on the list packed and moved to the garage. I didn't need the 50-inch TV removed, or the computer, or the Xbox. Didn't ask for the pictures on the wall removed. Only 40 things on the list. Lastly, I'm going through at least 48 boxes in the garage that weren't labeled like I asked him to for a quick find of things. I cannot find any gaming devices, including the Xbox, the Wii, brand new Kinect player, video games, a 300 CD case logic pack, 300 CDs that were in the Case Logic. A $300.00 sewing machine.

I joined Angie's List on May 23, 2014 and paid a basic membership fee of $7.99. A couple of months after joining, I received email notifications from Angie's List introducing me to their "free" service called "Band of Neighbors." On or about August 5, 2014, I logged onto Angie's List web page to join the advertised Band of Neighbors, but without success. It showed my home in the wrong neighborhood on their map, and it would not allow me to move the location of my home on the map. I double-checked my account settings, confirmed that my home address was entered correctly, and tried again, but to no avail.

When I called Angie's List and spoke with a customer service representative, he told me that basic membership allowed me to only deal with issues by email, not by telephone. So I hung up the phone and emailed my complaint to Angie's List. The return email the next day told me to do the same thing that I had already done - go into my account profile and confirm that my home address was entered correctly. I tried again to join Band of Neighbors but, once again, it would not show my home in the correct neighborhood. On or about August 8, I called again and spoke with Angie's List customer service rep and explained my issues. He informed me that he could help me by telephone only if I upgrade my membership and pay Angie's List more money. My response to him on the phone was, "So I must give you more money before I can join Band of Neighbors?" His response was simply, "By upgrading your membership with Angie's List, you'll receive more benefits." He would not admit yes or no to my direct question.

To this day, I have attempted every day to join Band of Neighbors, but to no avail. Angie's List has not corrected the map issue, and I feel certain they will not correct the map issue until I pay $29.99 to upgrade my annual membership. Considering that Angie's List has advertised "Band of Neighbors" service to be a "free" service, and the web page will not allow me to join, I allege herein that I have been the victim of false advertising and I have asked the Federal Trade Commission to investigate Angie's List policies and procedures and have them cease advertising "Band of Neighbors" as a "free" service.

It is about as easy to Fake a review as it is to create a FaceBook account and use any name you want! So why is Angie's List so great that they think we need to pay them for their services? I do not know but I can tell you as a Contractor myself I end up getting a review or two from customers who felt I did right by them so they left me some reviews. To this day I have not read the reviews but I received a phone call from an Angie's List rep offering me some kind of special advertising and a specialist who would help me design and create a web page sort of thing that would show my reviews, images of my work and the cost of my service was based on the number of customers that have access to my review page. The problem is I did not create my review page and I did not have any time to create the page so I told the lady I would go ahead and "TRY" the service and see how well it worked.

So I paid about $69 to get started and within about 2 weeks I was contacted by a rep from Angie's List who was supposedly the guy who was responsible for designing and creating my page. I told this rep that my little sister was to handle all of my website and review page affairs and he would have to get in touch with her because I was too busy working, doing what I do to create web pages. Not that I do not know how - I just do not have time.

Well this person tried to contact my little sister Once or TWICE and then she and I NEVER heard from him Again! Furthermore Angie's List NEVER Designed or created any page that I was able to look at and approve or deny, like or dislike! After paying for Angie's List for about 6 months I never received so much as ONE Customer who had said, "Hey, I read your review on Angie's List and I want some work done!" However I had about two customers a Month call me who had found my name on a wall somewhere or on some other website but Not ONE on Angie's List!!!!

When I was speaking with the first sales lady, one of her sales points was, "If you get just ONE Job from Angie's List it will be worth what you spend the entire YEAR!" Well, they wanted about $69 a month, A grand total of $829.00 a Year and in the Year I did not get so much as ONE Phone call or email! So I am not sure how much I paid out before I contacted Angie's List and told them to CANCEL my account that I was dissatisfied with this EXCUSE for Service they claim to provide and them charging me for 6 MONTHS and not keeping their end of the deal! I told them that the sales lady promised me a personal staff member to assist in design and creating my review page and that this person had (SUPPOSEDLY) Tried TWICE to get hold of my little sister and/or me to create this page.

At no time was I ever asked if I was satisfied and approved the page to be launched!! So what exactly was Angie's List charging me for? I told them that At this point I had paid for the service for nearly or over six months and had not so much as ONE call or Email and the cost at this point was over $400 so I asked how that benefited me at all to pay $69 a month and receive absolutely ZERO customers? Well, I was told that it was not a problem to cancel my service but that I had to pay for an early termination fee. I told them to go right to hell that at no time did I EVER Agree to any specific term of time and I was not going to pay any fee. Furthermore, I was not canceling my service because I no longer wanted it. I was canceling it because I felt it was Theft and outright FRAUD because they made promises they did not keep! And they absolutely did NOT deliver ANY of the services the sales rep told me they deliver!!!! Furthermore they are based out of the East coast and I am in Hawaii so one of the reasons they can NEVER Get hold of me is because of the time difference but still that is no excuse for completely failing to deliver on all the products and services they promised me!!

A few months after making it crystal clear that I wanted to CANCEL my account, I received a phone message from some new rep that I never heard from before stating that they "TRIED" Charging my card Again and the funds did not process!! I was in complete shock. I had not even heard from Angie's List in a few MONTHS and now they call to tell me that they failed to charge my credit card? Wow, I thought I had told them to go to hell and made clear they no longer had any permission, nor ever had any permission to just charge my card any time they wanted!! So I called the number back and of course given the time difference I did not get her on the phone but I was able to leave her a voice mail.

I explained that I had canceled my supposed "services" MONTHS Ago and they had NO Permission to make any attempts on my card! I told her that Angie's List had failed to provide services they sold and I wanted to make it absolutely clear that they would NO Longer try to charge my card and I said "I CANCELED My account MONTHS Ago so if you did not get the memo, it does not surprise me but Get it through your head and STOP Harassing me!!" I expressed that I felt it was theft, Fraud and outright harassment! And I never wanted to hear from them again PERIOD! And I threatened to start leaving reviews of my own about Angie's List if they attempted to charge my card again and/or tried to contact me again, and/or failed to cancel my membership!!!

I did not hear back from them till today when I received a letter from "Pangaea" A credit collection service asking me to respond within 48 hours of receiving their letter. They had Angie's List claiming that I owed them $219.26! I phoned them and left them a message and I said "Angie's list Owes me 2 BILLION Dollars so what do you think about that? How on earth do you send me such a letter just because Angie's List claims I owe them? Angie's List Lied and sold me a service that I paid for but Absolutely DID NOT GET! So I not only do not owe them but they Owe me!" I told them a few other things about going to Hell and left my phone number and "Account Number".

We will see how this turns out in the long run but I find it really funny that Angie's List sales reps can pretty much promise to sell you anything and absolutely NOT Deliver and then THINK they have you locked down into some contract or cancellation fee that I NEVER Agreed to!! So I guess if they can send me to collections for any amount they figure I owe them, I can tell their collection company that they owe me 2 BILLION dollars and see if it gets me as far collection my 2 Billion from Angie's List as they will collecting from me?

Have fun sending a rep to Hawaii to take me to court Angie's List!! Oh BTW I guess they should consider what might happen if I go to my local court house and file a claim against them for failing to honor their contract or perhaps they should consider Hawaii state law that VERBAL Contracts are just as abiding as written and their verbal contract stated they would provide me with staff to design and create a review page that I WOULD APPROVE and only AFTER I approved it would it appear on the web site but this never happened so why then was I charged at all?

So when I go to my local court house and file a claim against them, I wonder if they will settle or pay for someone to come out to Hawaii and TRY to fight it. Because the judges here likely like Angie's List about as much as I do. I never really liked that Angie Hicks or whatever her name is. She is a really UGLY Looking woman and I'd rather eat some dog crap than to ever see her nasty butch hair cut on another TV ad in my life!!! But this review really is not about Angie herself. It's about this crooked Fake service!! This is not a service at all. It is a scam and it is about time the people realize they do not need Angie's List. I still get phone calls from customers every month but never One time has any single one of them come from, seen or read anything about me on Angie's List!! I think Angie and Craig should get Married. Craig's List can sell Angie's List some children and be partners in Human trafficking!! Aloha.

I joined Angie'sList primarily to find a competent plumber for a small job: removing a radiator so I could have a floor repaired, then coming to put it back after the repair. I got a "deal" that was a TOTAL scam: $39 for a plumber visit, and $39 credit toward work. It cost $39. The guy came over and it took literally ONE turn of a wrench to take off the radiator. Great. Then he handed me a bill for over $200 worth of materials--when he used ZERO materials. Things turned ugly fast, with the business owner hanging up on me, they're leaving many threatening calls demanding their $, they're lying about what they told me the cost would be, etc.

Angie'sList told me they could help me resolve my complaint IF I agreed to leave a positive review for this company with an A or B rating! That is IMMORAL. I could never recommend such a shady company. But Angie'sList left me zero way to communicate this terrible experience to others. They just said: Sorry, but when you agreed to complaint resolution, you agreed to leave a positive review for the company. So long story short: Do NOT trust any reviews on this site--they are probably coerced. Angie's List is a scam.

I am writing from a contractor’s point of view. We were members of Angie's List for many, many years and have always taken good care of the customers that came from Angie's. However, this year we decided to drop out, due to the high pressure of Angie's salesman asking us to spend more. We are already not getting enough customers to pay for the expense of the advertising. We were losing thousands of dollars. You know what they told us? "You’re not charging enough. We did a cost analysis on your business and found other contractors are charging more than you. You need to up your prices." Who are they to tell us to charge you more for services rendered! They have been doubling our rate for the last couple of years to continue with them. Possibly due to many contractors dropping out from dissatisfaction would be my guess.

Their commercial on TV says that contractors do not pay to be on Angie's List but if you do not pay for advertising they bury you so deep on the list that no customers can find you in their search engine unless you already know who you’re looking for. We were always told that if we remain an A plus rated company we would always get an "ANGIE'S SUPER SERVICE AWARD" which we have done from the beginning. Now this year they yanked it from us not because of bad reviews "We have always made A's" but because we were graded on a curve and we lost the award due to not having enough reviews. How do we get that back you ask? Angie's said you have to spend more money, to get more customers, to get more reviews! How's that for your bottom dollar? We have to pass this expense to our customers because of Angie's greed for higher and more profits on the backs of you and us.

They are making small mom and pop companies like us who have a limited advertising budget pay lots more money to compete with larger deep pocket companies who have unlimited advertising dollars. Angie's did not start out like this but I guess Angie found it was too easy to suck us dry and I think she wants a bigger mansion. LOL. Believe me reviews can be fudged if you are dishonest. There are ways to fool them with false positive reviews. Put your boots on when looking at the reviews because you could find yourself standing in deep ** .That is something we have never done ("fudge reviews"). Keep reading Angie’s List complaints and you will see what I mean.

I posted a business on Angie's list a few months ago. I had some one working for me as an alternate contact. When no one could get a hold of me they called my alternate contact. Instead of leaving a message for her to give me, they let her sign contracts on my business account. Which in all fairness is partly my fault, I should not have trusted her, but Angie's List should not have discussed anything with her other than for me to contact them.

Meanwhile once all the money had been paid. My alternate contact went in and totally deleted me from my business. When I called AL, I was told there was nothing they could do. So pretty much they handed her my business on a silver platter. So I had all of my Information removed from the company and told them she could not pass a background check. She has a felony. I was assured all of this would be taken care of.

I built that business, I could build another. Lesson learned. I was overdrawn on my bank account couldn't figure out why. So now they have given my business to her and still using my account to pay for it!!!!!!!!!! The whole reason they let her do it is because I wasn't willing to pay for the ad, she was.

So just last week I paid my $7.99 and joined the supposedly wonderful site, Angie's List. I needed someone to fix my leaky outdoor faucet. So what was one of the first things I saw but a $49 deal on exactly that, offered by what I thought was a local vendor. Happy to get what I thought was a great deal, I paid Angie's List for it via PayPal and got a quick email scheduling the service for yesterday 9-11 AM. So far so good, right? Wrong. 11 AM came and went. No show, no call. I called the local number and got somebody in the next town, no explanation, no apology, they just tried to reschedule the job 10 days hence. I asked for and got a local person, a tech who rescheduled for 1-3 PM the next day. A little better. So the next day, 3 PM came and went, no show, no call, nothing.

I called back the local number and again got someone in the next town. Asked for the tech of the previous day by name, was put on extended hold only to be told he's "not answering." They asked for my address which I gave and was put on another extended hold. Somebody else came on the line, still in the next town, who knew absolutely nothing about me or the situation or the reason for my call. At that point I related what happened and said I wanted to cancel the service and get a refund. What I heard was, "You'll have to call Angie's List for that." And they hung up. So I called Angie's List. I went through an operator who transferred me to the "Big Deal" line. I sat on hold for over 20 minutes of the most ghastly music imaginable.

Think Flintstones theme song and Hey hey we're the Monkeys. Finally some perky person came on the line, who would not take my request for a refund until I went through her lengthy script detailing all the issues and answering a gazillion questions. Finally she said they'd send me an email with a few questions to answer and IF they determined I wasn't lying they'd process my refund in 7-10 days. 7-10 DAYS?? You know how much interest they can make on aggregate funds in 10 days?? And it sure as shootin' didn't take them 7-10 days to take money from me for a service not yet performed! So the email came with the same exact questions I had just answered, only now I was expected to give the answers in writing. I filled out and submitted the form and got an autoresponder notice saying again 7-10 days for any refund. I contacted PayPal and opened a claim, but they said about the same thing: up to 10 days for a refund. Hey, somebody's making money here and it sure ain't me.

I just want my money back so I can find somebody to fix my stinkin' leaky faucet. This is just garbage. I canceled the service, nothing was done, Angie's List took my money and won't give it back for over a week. Something's really wrong here. Honestly, I am completely disillusioned by Angie's List and will never use them again. I don't believe they're on the level. I'm convinced that that plumbing vendor has seeded their name with false positive reviews and I don't trust any of the other reviews either after this. No company who treated someone the way I've been treated can possibly have that many good reviews. And not only that, I strongly caution anyone not to pay Angie's List upfront for any of their so-called deals. They take the money, then if anything goes wrong, they take their time about giving it back, while it sits in their bank account earning interest.

This is not only an unfair business practice, but highly unethical at the very least even if not strictly illegal. I'd have demanded my money back for the subscription too if I thought I'd get anywhere with that. But I was hassled out for one day. Decided I'll just eat the $7.99 and consider it an investment in my education. What a load of garbage. This Angie's List is not what some people make it out to be. Furthermore, they're collecting money for vendors while claiming to be objective and in effect, acting as the vendor themselves. That's a conflict of interest for sure. Yeah, I should have known better than to pay for something before receiving it, but something really stinks about this whole thing. Just had to post a warning so maybe somebody else can avoid what happened to me.

I found them later after I'd been scammed in the worst way possible, by putting in an address. Instead of Caring Transitions they were listed under CT and had a lot of really bad reviews. I added mine and then they changed the name of the company again and took out the full name and made it initials. I contacted Angie's several times and filed complaints, telling them what they were doing.

They are currently listed under a new owner and address, and the old company listed as closed, though you can't see that on Angie's List, I only see it by looking up my reviews on my account. All the bad reviews are gone and they are free to steal from other elderly widows with Angie's blessing. I'm telling everyone don't use Caring Transitions or Angie's List. A few weeks later, a salesman from Angies List called and asked how things were going. I stated we have not received one call from any of your customers, so he stated we needed to advertise more and that cost was in the hundreds of dollars a month, plus if we gave our own customers Angies List review cards we would have more reviews therefore more customers.

What he did not state was all of the hundreds of dollars I would have to spend would be in areas I don't even work in, because the area I work in have all the contractors on Angies List filled up. I will not give my own customers Angies List review cards that would be advertising for Angies List and from what I understand some people have to pay to send in a review. As soon as our contract is up with Angies List, we will not sign up again. I don't believe customers should have to pay for Angies List when the contractors are paying too.

I was hired by a member of Angie's list to complete the inside of an addition built on the rear of member's home - an addition built by another contractor. I have an Afro-American employee who drives a diesel truck and some oil dripped on the member's driveway. Member then had called employee a **. I told member that I will not allow or put up with rude behavior and that we will leave the job site. Member's wife begged me to stay and finish the job with an agreement that when finish I would receive a payment toward the contract, just leaving some paver work to be completed. 3 days later we finish the inside of the addition. The member told me that "yes, I will make a payment." 5 times they stated that to me.

The day that I was to receive a payment, member had the El Paso Sheriff's office remove me from the member's property. I sued member in a lower court. The court ordered a State of Texas home inspector to go to member's home and evaluate the workmanship by us. The report came by and stated that the inspector had the construction contract in hand, viewed each item and stated in writing that the workmanship was "WELL ABOVE AVERAGE WORKMANSHIP." The court ordered member to pay me. Member did not appeal the judgment and the member did in fact pay me.. Member then posted on Angie's List a FFFFF rating stating that I did not install a concrete countertop under the gazebo. This item was not part of the contract. Member just made it up, member lied, and it goes on and on, slamming me with lies.

I call Angie's List and they told me that if I sue the member they will remove me as a service provider, and they did.... I did file suit in State Court for slander and libel for $135.000.00. The case is still pending and no court hearing, as of yet, and an injunction is also still pending. Angie's List is protected by the CDA for third party comments, but Angie's List IS NOT PROTECTED by the CDA for acting in concert with a member to harm a contractor's honest services, who has a constitutional right to sue a member who lies about a contractor. I won my case in the lower court and member stated the same claims as he did on Angie's List. Member lost and the member will lose again.

If I win in State Court, I will consider a suit in Federal Court for conspiracy and to smear my good name across the www and who willfully and knowingly with malice, harmed my business and to deprive me of my honest services. Uncharted waters is what I am good at and without a lawyer, I'm in pro se. I do have and I have always maintained an A+ rating with the true BBB. This case is pending and is for public record in the courthouse in El Paso County, Texas district clerk's office.

I received a bad review on Angie's List. This is from a person that never hired my company and cannot prove any type of invoice or receipt from my company. I don't want any affiliation with Angie's List and how are they allowed to just allow anyone to go on their website and post negative things without checking them out to see proof that a company was used by them? Not fair. We as business owners must have some kind of rights with this?

I have been an approved vendor on Angie's List for over a year. Yes, I receive telemarketing calls and emails from their salespeople but I am semi-retired and don't need a lot of business. I have received several referral calls from their members and overall, the results have been good. Considering that I paid nothing to be listed, I have no complaints. Then again, I haven't gotten a bad review either so I have not been on the receiving end of that situation. I also have a Yelp profile and while people do look at it, to my knowledge, I have never gotten any business from that listing. Local advertising still works the best.

I hate to say that but it's true in my case. I've used AngiesList twice, and yes, I willingly have a yearly membership and I found two reputable contractors through AngiesList. The quotes I got were reasonable and the workmanship was good. Having been burned more times than I care to think about by contractors, in my state anybody can call themselves a contractor if they get a license and purchase insurance. I'm grateful for AngiesList in my area. I'd be back to recommendations from friends if not for AngiesList and I got hosed by those contractors. For the most part, I believe in hindsight they did not know what they were doing when it comes to an old house but they wanted the work and were willing to wing it as they went along. Word of advice: Educate yourself on the job you need done before you hire somebody off any service to do the actual work, and BE THERE to monitor the work.

I cannot unsubscribe. Somehow (I cannot ever remember subscribing to AngiesList marketing email), I was added to AngiesList’s email list. Trying to clean up the email messages coming in, I've decided to simply unsubscribe to as many unwanted messages as possible. So upon receiving marketing email from AngiesList, I thought I could do as I've done with many other unwanted solicitations and simply click on the unsubscribe button. When clicking unsubscribe on the link listed directly in the marketing email that they just sent to my email address, I'm asked to enter my email address on file (keep in mind that this is the same email address they just sent their marketing email message to therefore it should be on file, right?).

After entering the same email address that they just sent a message to, I received an error response saying there is no such email address on file. After trying this several times, I sent a message to their contact email address, with subject that states "Cannot Unsubscribe" but got no response. After receiving another marketing message (almost daily), I sent another message to them with subject, "Cannot Unsubscribe: Second Notice!" Still no response. After receiving the third one and trying once again to unsubscribe and could not, I decided to call the customer service number. And after being transferred and on hold for 10 minutes, I spoke with someone named Patrick **. He was a very nice person and told me that he would help me.

I later received this email: "Thank you again for your call today, Joan. Here is a receipt confirming the cancellation of your AngiesList membership. Your account will not be renewed and you can continue to use your membership until it expires on 1/30/2014. Please let us know if you have any additional questions or concerns. If you ever need our help in the future, we'd be delighted to welcome you back! Thanks again for being a member of AngiesList."

The next morning, I received another AngiesList marketing email. I sent another message, subject, "Cannot unsubscribe - Third Notice!" I suppose I'll have to spend more time than I care to in order to get this stopped. Attorney General and BBB, next stop! This does not make for a good review, AngiesList!

How many folks are having issues with Angie's List referral services? On or about a year ago today, a representative solicited a call to me for a three-month trial to Angie's List referral service. Although I thanked him for his time and informed him my sons do my advertising online as they are both web designers, he still persisted saying, "What have you to lose?" He said, "Please give us an opportunity for three months to earn your trust; if you are not 100 percent satisfied, simply cancel." He was pushy but courteous and polite, so I agreed.

After the three months, I informed an Angie's List rep by phone that I wished to cancel their services. They said that they hated to see me go and that the fella who contacted me was no longer with them; however, they would honor his commitment. It has been over a year with a minimum of 5 phone calls to Angie's List representatives along with at least 4 managers, all of whom have assured me that my listing and billings would be canceled.

Angie's List continued to bill me through my Visa credit card. I have filed fraud with Bank of America 3 times and have finally had to resort to canceling a Visa card to finally stop the fraud and harassment from Angie's List referral service. I have now received a letter from collection agencies which states I owe Angie's List $200 for past services.

I have been in business for 30 years and have yet to stumble on or be conned and cheated and annoyed to this nature, which borders on criminal and fraud. How many other small business owner have suffered the same type of harassment case such as mine and are there any attorneys willing to open a class action suit against Angie's List? If so, please contact me. It not the money I am concerned with; it's the fraud which goes far beyond the measurement in money in true and honest business practices.

We are a company on Angie's List, put there by their members. Three times we have received somewhat negative feedback & we are not even the company that performed the work. I know that we can post a reply to the comment but I ask, how come no paperwork/contract is ever checked to begin with? So anyone, any time, can post negative comments without someone doing any research from Angie's List if the work corresponds to the correct company.

I am a physician who does not practice (I work in research). I never posted such a business listing and have ever been a member of Angie’s List or had any affiliation with them. When I contacted them to remove this posting with erroneous information, they refused.

I enrolled on Angie's List at a cost of $31.00. I received an email from Angie's List saying that my area is a test market area and that there is no charge for membership. I emailed back, stating that I felt ripped off that I shouldn't have been charged. No response and no refund. I'm writing my local Better Business Bureau. I shouldn't have been charged.

We are a business that is listed on Angie's List. We usually get all "A" grades. We do good work, have numerous awards and care about our reputation. Someone called in and asked for a price quote over the phone. We gave him a price range and that was it. He did not ask for an appointment and we didn't hear from him again. One week later (after his call), he posted a scathing review of us and gave us all "F" grades. We called Angie's List to get the review taken down. They refused and said it will count towards 25% of our overall grade! Insane! We are considering a class action suit against them for damaging our reputation. They should be stopped.

I subscribed to Angie's List in 2011, thinking it would give me access to reputable vendors, contractors, tradespeople, etc., but the problem began when Angie's List did not have a service area for my zip code. Angie's List substituted a major metro area instead, which is over an hour from me, and provided a list of vendors, contractors, etc. that I couldn't use, because of the distance. I cancelled my membership because of this reason, in December of 2011.

Angie's List contacted me today, and wanted a list of vendors that I would recommend, which I provided to them, but I did not find through Angie's List. They asked me for the reason for my cancellation, and I gave them the aforementioned reason. I told them they needed to provide services and contractors in my area, which is quite large, and recommended they create a service region based on the zip code for this particular part of the state. The customer service rep and his manager told me I didn't know what I was talking about, and that I would have to stay in the region they had in their system. I was trying to assist them, and they were flip and rude in their response.

If you do not live in a major metro area of the United States, Angie's List will do you absolutely no good. Do not sign up for it, because you'll be wasting your money. Ironic how a site who boasts it is serving the consumer, actually isn't.

I am a paint and remodeling contractor based out of Alexandria, Va . I was seduced into 1yr advertising contract with Angies List as a result of long term solicitation and "factual" information presented to me prior to signing. During the contemplation period, I believe an inside call from them was made to me posing as a potential consumer using their network in attempt to make my decision to join.

Although skeptical, I agreed to advertise with them. 3 months went by without a single call resulting from Angie's List. I attempted on numerous occasions to communicate with my account manager about my concerns. It was suggested to join their "big deal program". This program is designed for them to gain 30% of on an already discounted promo service completely on their terms. This would be in addition to their monthly subscriber fees. I did not feel this would be beneficial, nor did I feel I needed to go to such extreme/costly measures to make their program work for me.

After continuing concern, my account manager stopped responding to my emails for a period of 3 weeks. It was not until I sent another email, that I was then contacted by someone claiming to be my new account manager. I was never notified of any of these changes before or after. I don't believe this to be true. After committing close to $1,000.00 monthly subscription fees (1/4 of contract), they had no more excuses for me.

After demanding to speak to a manager, I was contacted by John **. I began to explain my case once more, until I interrupted the conversation on suspicion that the conversation was being recorded. When I questioned this, he hesitated, and waived it off as "standard practice".

I proceeded to explain that I had no issue with being recorded, however this information had not been disclosed/consented prior to. This is an FCC violation.

I continued to explain my issues and requested to be released once more from contract based on their negligence, unprofessionalism, and unsatisfaction with results. He admitted mistake, and verbally agreed to release without dues. With the understanding/assurance that something would be provided in writing stating such.

After a few more emails, he is now claiming only to have agreed to cancellation of ad, not in waiving any fees or providing written document as agreed.
