The retailer will be hosting holiday discounts through December

JCPenney is rolling back the calendar to 2019 with its prices for the upcoming holiday season

In addition to having many gifts listed at pre-inflation prices, JCPenney will also offer thousands of gifts under $15 and hundreds of items listed at 2022 prices.

Here’s what to expect from the retailer over the next month.

Over a month of savings

JCPenney has a whole month of sales planned for shoppers. The schedule of deals and discounts includes:

On Black Friday, JCPenney will open its doors at 5:00 a.m. local time and offer deals all day. Shoppers won’t need to have any coupons – all discounts will be applied automatically.

In addition to the savings, the department store will offer giveaways at four points throughout the day:

  • 5:00 a.m.: Chances to win $10 off a purchase of $10, $100 off a purchase of $100, or $500 off a purchase

  • 9:00 a.m.: $10 off a $10 coupon when you spend $50+ on gift cards

  • 1:00 p.m.: Chance to win free diamonds

  • 5:00 p.m.: Chance to win a coupon for $500 off $500 purchase

Some of the biggest deals shoppers can expect during the Black Friday sale include:

  • 40% off Cuisinart 5.5-quart stand mixer

  • Up to 25% off toys and games, including Melissa & Doug, Monopoly, Barbie, and Nintendo

  • 25% off men's and women's Adidas hoodies

  • 50% to 60% off men's Levi's jackets

  • 80% off Protocol luggage set

Preparing for the sales

In preparation for Black Friday, Mackenzie Shand, editor and shopping expert at BlackFriday.com, shared some of her best advice ahead of the season. According to Shand, here’s what consumers should hold out on buying during the upcoming Black Friday sales:

Big-ticket electronics: It’s easy to get wrapped up in the Black Friday hype and feel that you need to snag expensive electronics. However, before you buy a top-of-the-line TV or home theater system, know that these deals are often closing out older models for the year. This is because retailers are making room for newer models that are releasing early next year. If this doesn't bother you, feel free to add the items to your cart. But also be sure to read the reviews and specs, so you aren't being persuaded by a flashy discount alone.

Winter outerwear: Several large retailers offer discounted apparel on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. This tends to be a great time to shop brands that rarely have sales at other times of the year, and to buy items like family pajamas and slippers that are popular gifts. However, if you want to save big on winter outerwear like boots, ski jackets, snow pants, etc., you will find deeper discounts at the end of the winter season.

Travel deals: Travel sites and airlines tend to sit out Black Friday, only to push big sales on Cyber Monday. If you do see a sale on Black Friday, we suggest waiting a few days. You are likely to see bigger discounts on Cyber Monday from the same, and even competing brands. The caveat with these deals though, is that they tend to be date and location-specific. But if you are flexible with the date and location, you can end up with huge savings on your next getaway.

Furniture: You might be tempted to snag a Black Friday furniture deal to help you spruce up your home for the holidays. However, late summer and late winter (think Presidents' Day and Labor Day) are when the best furniture deals tend to be available. That’s because retailers are preparing to get new stock in, so they need to clear out the old to make room for the new.
