I had a storage unit at this address for 8 years, 18401 N. 35th Ave. Phoenix AZ. The rates kept going up. The last one was an increase of $50.00 a month. The increases were happening every year. I sent an email one of the times asking to please reconsider. I never heard from anyone. The increases became a financial hardship when it went up to $350.00 a month (7.5X10). I found a bigger one for $112.00 a month. When I called Public Storage to let them know I was no longer going to be renting from them, they wanted to negotiate a cheaper monthly fee but I was not interested. The gouging is appalling. Shop around. Storage facilities are popping up everywhere. Don’t waste your hard earned money on this place.

Our customer service agent was Ashleigh on Wever Road. She was very patient and detailed with our services. She worked with us to find the right size and pricing. I was reserved at 10 am but did not make a decision until 1 pm. By then the discount have vanished due to another reservation. She got us the same discount for another unit with access to the mobile app for entrance. I would absolutely go back to rent a space from that location.

Beware, before even you try to book any storage with this business. They will scam you with lots of hidden charges and extremely unprofessional. Here is my story. I had few extra boxes that I wanted to keep in a small storage unit at Public Storage about 2 blocks from my place. I booked online on 30 July and scheduled to move on 31st. I was overcharged and there was hidden fees that they would never disclose up front. I called and left several messages but no one called me back.

I tried to chat with them online, six times that chat agent hung up. There is no way to cancel the order. You can download their app and you can only move in or move out with the app. How one can move out when he/she has not moved in yet. Then I called and with extreme difficulty tried to cancel the order and the agent was extremely rude and declined to issue a refund that they charges over $116 and she hung up. I called twice and after lots of persuasion, they agreed to provide a partial refund. They did not even do that for over a week and when I called they did not refund the full amount. I booked online, never moved in and yet they charged me money. Extremely unprofessional business.

I inquired about a 10x10 and a 10x15 unit, and Lexie showed the 10x10 and demonstrated the 10x15. When I was confused about the pricing, Lexie took time to explain in detail every aspect of the pricing. I was very pleased with my experience. Lexie is a credit to your organization. Thanks.

I recently stored my truck at Public Storage for 5 weeks. I called customer service in advance to ask if the monthly rent on the 2nd month would be pro-rated, since I was moving out after only 1 week. I was told yes. When I moved out I was told it would not be pro-rated. I called customer service again, to explain that the only reason I stored my truck there was because they gave me the wrong information. They would not refund ANY of last month. VERY UNHAPPY CUSTOMER. Truck will not be staying there again.

The unit I was given had two doors. Only one operated. I was told just to use the other door. Within 2 months of renting the unit, there was a huge price increase. I could not access my storage unit most of the winter because there was a gutter that drained right on top of my unit and there was thick ice at all times in front of the storage door making it impossible to open the door. I was told it was my problem or I could use the broken door (umm...its broken). I then tried to switch my unit to another unit on the property. The unit was advertised as a 10 x 20 but there was a big metal housing or duct work that took up at least a 1/3 of the floor space at the back and side of the unit. I then had to fight for a refund for that unit and was refused the $29 admin fee I paid even though they falsely advertised the unit (and were charging me rent for a 10 x 20 unit).

When the office called they did not offer to rectify the situation in any way. I then decided to move my storage out to another facility. I gave them notice of my move out. Then all of a sudden the office wanted to work with me to keep me from leaving completely when they wouldn't even help me for the other problem. When they refunded me for the unit I didn't take, not only did they not refund the $29 admin fee, they also shorted me another $5 for absolutely no reason. Stay away from Public Storage! They are deceptive and thieves!

Absolutely terrible customer “service”. Worse than Comcast, and I didn’t think that was possible. There is never anyone on site in the office, customers are directed to teeth-grindingly bad “customer service” number that puts you through voice menu hell. If you can navigate that, you get dumped into an AI text messaging app that eventually says, oh I can’t really help with that, please call the customer service number. I finally got through to a person by pressing “0” in the voice menu, and the agent really barely spoke English and ended up forcing Public’s own insurance on me even though I have my own.

The website promised a small space for $65 a month, with first month only $1 plus $20 processing fee. But when I actually rented it, they said, oh that’s only for new customers and you already have an account with us. The first month’s rent plus addons ended up costing close to $120. I had rented a smaller space because the one I had, they suddenly jacked up the monthly by a whopping 40%, no advance notice. Stay away from this company, they are terrible.

Have had a great experience with Public Storage at 4654 Roswell Road in Sandy Springs GA, with the exception of rental increases. Within one year my rental unit went from $218 to $368 per month. I called and thankfully they agreed to lower it to $292 ($308 with insurance) for three more months. However, the fact that they would take this much advantage within a year of renting is very disappointing. So, my advice is to read line 22 of your contract carefully and know that the amount you’re signing for means little by the end of the year.

No one is ever in the office and they never answer the phones. They closed the place completely two days before the last hurricane hit preventing customers from entering their storage units and like me many of them rented the storage units to save their valuables then couldn’t get in to store them. The corporate office doesn’t care about anything and always blame the owners of the storage facilities. Then when moving my stuff out someone vandalized my car while inside in the dark and they refused to show me the security video. All the people that work at public storage and the corporate office have no experience in the business world at all.

2801 Hullsmith Dr location is a joke and customer service is a joke. And "climate control" statement is a false advertisement! All my stuff smells of mold after only 3 months. This whole place is a joke. Nothing is working and you can't even access your unit. This particular location is completely out of order and contacting customer service is like talking to the wall. I started sweating inside the unit right away and then quickly realized all my stuff smelled of mold after being there for only 3 months. Its so hot and humid inside I had to step outside to cool down!

I submitted an online "concern" about climate control through live chat and was promised 72 hours response that I'm still waiting on. Both lights in my unit don't work, the bathroom doesn't work. And then the next day the gate system is offline and the property manager doesn't have any keys to access the buildings manually. First of all how does the property manager not have access to the inside units? What if there is a fire there or I passed out in one of your "climate controlled" units? It's insane but manager on duty can't help with anything but submit a request to fix the lock system. Okay whatever..

2 days later, no one is answering the phone, and none is calling back after leaving the voicemail so we came to check it out and the system is still offline and manager on duty is non existent. So I made an earliest appointment online for today through the live chat and was promised a confirmation within 24 hours. And when I got here today of course there was none on site. I went back to live chat and apparently they have no records of making an appointment for me. I knew I should've screenshotted that conversation because it was too good to be true. So we called again and finally got to a representative and he said he'll call the manager on duty and he was only a couple minutes away. But an hour later there was no one present.

Hours later I get a call from them saying that the property manager will be there at 1pm and will have a key to let you in. 30 min after I arrive to the location later I finally get a hold of their customers service over the phone and apparently their schedule is 1.30pm till 6pm. So customer service does nothing but promises you what you want to hear but doesn't actually do anything or for some reason they won't give the upper management contact. So if you have any issues know for sure it won't be fixed and if you have deadlines to catch, you are screwed. All they do is lie and "address your concern" and take your money. The worst experience with a storage unit I've ever had! And I'm hoping maybe they will respond to me after this review because the whole company is a false advertisement!

I had to chat to request a refund, not once, not twice, but 3 times throughout the month and was told each time the refund was submitted. I think they do this on purpose, take the money and hold it from the customer and make interest off of the rent they stole from me. My experience with Public Storage was terrible - including predatory price increases, insufficient security (including 2 break-ins in 6 months) and poor customer service/responsiveness. The TLDR summary is -- stay away and find a different solution for storage! Public Storage offered a good initial price compared to competitors in the area, offering me a large unit for $424/month. I expected an increase, as it is known that this industry lures you with low initial pricing, but the experience I had is nothing short of "predatory". In the 4th month, the price increased by 39% to $593. I was surprised by the magnitude of increase but continued using the storage unit.

About 6 months into my lease, I experienced a first break-in where a pry-bar was used to open metal corrugated doors on the unit, by bending them out of the tracks. My storage unit was at the end of their building, and they did not have adequate security camera coverage. Multiple items were stolen from my storage unit, which amounted to an eventual ~$1500 payout from their third-party insurer through Orange Door.

Public Storage was not able to provide another large unit that could fit the contents at the time, so I had to move some more valuable items out (time/effort/expense) and asked them to repair the unit as soon as possible and install a new security camera that covers the end of the building. It took them over 2 weeks to install a plywood cover over the broken door, and 3 months to repair the door (without further securing it). I left Public Storage a key to my unit to facilitate the repair but had no idea it would take 3 months like this (more later). Throughout the whole ordeal, I also was never successful in getting any additional security/lighting or protection added to this part of the building.

Shortly after this horrible experience, I was contacted (8 months in) and told that the price was increased to $755/month - a 78% increase since starting the lease. After spending a good amount of time on the phone, the local office reduced that to $633 for "3 months" and I started to make plans to vacate the unit. After planning to move out, I returned to the unit to find that more items had been stolen from the storage unit. Since this happened while Public Storage had access to the storage unit, I contacted their management and suggested they investigate (and filed another police report). They claimed that another break-in had occurred, and they had already repaired the unit again. They had not reached me about either the break-in or the 2nd repair.

Throughout the issues, I found it difficult to contact the company representatives. They do not really work through email or text messaging and often don't answer the phone during business hours. I also made 3 separate trips to try to collect the shared key during clearly posted business hours, but there was not employee available onsite. When I did reach local representatives, they were generally nice and helpful. At the end of the ordeal, I asked for a 1-month credit due to poor security and overall experience. This was granted and showed up on my credit card, and I put this behind me (or so I thought).

Several months after putting this behind me, I was contacted by a regional office for Public Storage claiming that I was granted a one-month refund that I should not have received. I explained this over the phone to the regional representative, and his attitude was one of complete ambivalence as I relayed all of the issues at which point he told me to pay, or he would send my account over to a collection agency.

I just moved out of my Public Storage locker in Nashville, TN. Why? Because they raised my rent 200% over the 20 months of my stay there. While I expect inflation raises of 5-15% annually, Public Storage (PS) takes big advantage of the fact that you have already paid a lot of money, and spent a lot of time, moving-in, so they know they have you - they are the worst kind of bullies. I called, sent texts via their website, and spoke personally to the manager of my facility, and he related that this is standard practice at PS, and that many other renters there had also complained (in fact, one was on the speaker phone while I was leaving complaining about the same price increases).

Management continues the practice, and I suppose it is their business model to rip off their customers, because they know they have your stuff, and many times the people have moved, are out of state, or otherwise unable to move their belongings in short order. It's a really poor model that abuses their customers, and I will never, ever work with them again. The PS management and ownership are really ** people, because I would have stayed there for years if they hadn't ripped me off so badly. The greed they exhibit should be illegal, and I hope one day it is.

All I can do is tell as many people as I can not to use them, so they too don't get taken advantage of like me. Image how bad the management and ownership is that they destroy their brand value like this. Really a shame, and the owners and management should really examine their moral and ethical boundaries, as well as their financial plan. Word is out on Public Storage, and it isn't good. Don't stay here with these thieves.

When I called to complain about this, I was told that all the rates shown are “introductory rates”. So my only options are to move out with no refund, to move to a different location at a much higher price or to take a smaller unit available at a much higher price at the same location. I am livid at this point because this rental unit should not be in this conditions in the first place. No person in their right mind should use a storage unit in these conditions. Public storage has one obligation to make sure the unit is clean and rentable with no exposure to rodents or the weather. You should be able to feel safe putting your belongings in the storage unit without dirt, feces and visible point of entry for rodents to enter. I am receiving horrible customer service as if I put the holes in the walls, placed the rat poison and feces in there myself.

Please do not rent from this company or location if the rental storage unit are in these conditions because then the next person has to use it without them cleaning it or fixing the damage holes in the walls. Messages left completely ignored. YET, they keep billing me for several months after I told them to dispose of the contents in the manner of their choosing, since I was under the impression it had been sold already.

I cannot believe it is legal to operate as they do in Michigan; nearly IMPOSSIBLE to get someone on the phone, unless you pretend to be someone looking for a new unit. Asked for supervisor, was given someone whose English was so poor I had to ask her to repeat everything she said. When finally given to someone in "escalations", he just repeated that the comments were noted, but NEVER answered any question about why nobody answers the phone, why I was told my stuff was being sold and months later they are still billing me and telling me it is GOING to be auctioned. My sister was explicitly told over the phone that the first month would be free, and that we would only be charged a pro-rated amount for any additional days if we moved out early the following month. Based on this information, I agreed to pay the rent.

My sister moved in on April 28, 2025 and moved out completely by May 2, 2025—just a few days into the next month. I was shocked to discover that Public Storage refused to honor the pro-rated pricing and demanded full payment for the entire month of May, even though she vacated almost immediately. When we called to dispute the charge, we were told that the pro-rated pricing “wasn’t company policy” and that the contract my sister signed stated this. This directly contradicts what she was told by their employee before signing the agreement. Had we been accurately informed, I would never have rented from them in the first place.

This is not a simple misunderstanding—this is a bait-and-switch tactic. They lure you in with verbal promises, then hide behind legal language in the contract when those promises aren’t honored. That is deceptive, unethical, and unacceptable. I escalated the issue to a regional manager, but instead of addressing it professionally, my sister received a call from a generic 866 number telling her the complaint was denied—though they “generously” offered to charge half the month instead. That is still unacceptable. We were misled by their staff, and I do not believe customers should be penalized for internal training failures or dishonest sales tactics.

For the record, Public Storage is not BBB accredited, and this experience makes it easy to see why. BOTTOM LINE: If you’re considering renting from this location (or any Public Storage location), read every word of the contract and do not trust any verbal assurances you are given. Better yet, take your business to a company that stands behind its word and treats customers with transparency and integrity. I strongly advise against renting from Public Storage. My experience involved misleading billing practices and what I believe to be deceptive and unethical treatment of customers. Proceed with extreme caution. If Public Storage wishes to rectify this situation, they are welcome to contact me with an acceptable resolution. I would be more than happy to update this review to reflect that they listened to their customer and made things right.

Worst experience with a storage unit. Don't use them. Gave up a storage unit in which the on-site property manager said all I had to do was sign paperwork to release the storage unit. Kept calling, requesting the form that I needed. After 2 weeks and 17 calls/messages left, call was returned. Manager said they do not require the form and all I had to do was stop paying and they would just take the unit over after 60 days. I and now receiving calls from a collection agency saying I owe $900. Don't get yourself involved with this company.

1000 reviews with 1 star is clearly the best indicator of the value and service of this sham operation that does not provide accurate measurements for their units but sells you what your needs are in measurements regardless of the reality of the unit's actual size. A 10x20 unit with an 8" entrance is not a viable option if you need to have 10' width to get into the 10x20 unit. And then argue that it's 10' when your tape measure indicates 8' otherwise is simply ignorant and a denial which results in no refund since they say 10'. Many storage places around with actual people onsite makes a big difference, but then for the lousy corporations like PS with 75% of the customers satisfied can just leave the 25% at a loss and not be bothered. Claim denied, we made our money.

Very shady. They raise the rent all the time as well. Who is the mysterious District Manager that is always "unavailable"?

When I called to order a storage unit the customer service representative was absolutely wonderful and personable. I enjoyed talking to him and his patience with me driving and trying to answer the texts he was sending to activate my unit. He was great! When I finally got to my unit I was horrified to see rats running through the facility! Even more horrifying was the worker telling me a rat ran across his foot when he opened the facility that morning! Shaking my head! It was raining and I had too much to unpack and place into the unit to turn back now! I was so upset spiders and webs were everywhere in the unit! I had to go buy a broom from the dollar store across the street and to the Home Depot a few blocks away to get Rat traps! I also purchased spray for spiders. I swept the webs out spiders were running everywhere!

The worker gave me a packet of rat poison and I set up my traps in each corner and sprinkled Ajax around the perimeter in case of water and to deter rodents and bugs! I placed my belongings inside and poured bleach on the door once I locked it. I’m absolutely appalled by the rat infestation!! So I went back today and there’s a rodent in the trap and it’s large! On my way back to my vehicle I’m going down the aisle in the facility and dog poo is just sitting in the floor with lots of flies enjoying it! Ughhh! I called customer service and demanded I be transferred to another facility closer to where I live and I want a month off! They claim they will get back to me and they claim they’re sending someone to spray and clean that particular facility location on Aramingo Ave in Philadelphia!

Arrived at facility and stored a few items, later that same day I received an email that I had abandoned the unit and my account had been closed. I called and spoke to someone explaining that I paid for the month and just moved in, why was the account closed. After the conversation, I asked that the account be closed and I wanted a refund. Still needing a storage unit and the location of the Pubic Storage right around the corner I opened an account online again and assigned a storage unit, this time under my wife's name. I Arrived the next day and a lock was on the unit.

I called and was another unit. I'd had enough, held the unit for 1 month, after all the problems before even moving in. I didn't want to keep my stuff there. Only went a few times the short time I rented, no cars in the lot but there were no carts in the lobby, where were they. I was glad I hadn't planned any heavy moving in those days I did arrive. I would advise others to stay away from Public Storage. I don't know if it's all facilities or just this one.

Their storage prices from 2019-2024 have increased 313.43%. They increase you by 32% every 6 months. I have NEVER been notified of an upcoming increase, a gate hour change, or a change to the kiosk system. For over a year, I have had a 10x15 gate that won't shut or open, slick lock doesn't work, etc. I had the first week of May to interview PS customers at the State Street site in Midvale. Don’t be fooled by low introductory rates to get you locked into their setup. Prepare for scheduled price increases. 3 months to the day of being at public storage they took my rate from $177 to $238. A $47 increase. On top of their gate rarely working and property management rarely being available these scheduled rate hikes are predicted abusive billing practices. They use low introductory rates to get you moved into their facility and with perfectly timed planning they increase your rate.

Then you have to play their silly game and call and cancel your current unit and reserve a new unit at the lower rate. I tried that and they said since I was already a customer they couldn’t give me a low rate so I just told them to cancel me and I’ll be moved out by my next billing cycle. Magically they were able to lock me in at a rate that was only $10 higher than original rate for the next three months. When I moved in I even asked the lady at the front counter how often they do rate hikes and she said “Public Storage is known for keeping rates the same for long periods of time”. For me, the lack of transparency makes me not want to give this company my business. And I’m doing just that. I’ll be out of here in less than 30 days and won’t ever bring my business back.

I also know several other friends and business owners who keep items here and I have reached out to them to educate them how to beat public storage at their own stupid game. Do better PUBLIC STORAGE. Be transparent. And perhaps honor the words in the emails you send that claim you appreciate our loyalty. You lost a customer.

Not to mention the new rate breakdown they send is completely contradictory. Somehow standard rent of $206 minus $50 credit somehow gives you rent of $238 that when $50 is subtracted from gets me to the final rate of $187. Why even mention the $206? It’s irrelevant and rather than make you feel like you’re getting a deal, you get to see the nonsense they try and pull on customers. At no time was my rent ever $156 (standard rent of $206 minus $50 credit). Why not just be transparent? Id rather you start me off at a higher rate and lock it in for a year vs this nonsense. But like most big businesses, once they have the leverage over you, they know youll usually comply as its inconvenient to move back out.

On December 1st 2024 I was a month behind on my storage. I went there to get everything out and was told I needed to pay for another full month's rent because it was on the 1st. Now the person that was there in the office Joanna I believe or Joanne was very courteous and caring about my situation which is why I wrote a very good review about her. This is now April 2025 and I am getting calls stating I owe money. December 1st Joanne told me as long as I got everything out before the end of the office hours she would go back in and zero out my storage as long I was caught up on my past due balance which I did. I paid $239. After she's zeroed everything out I wrote a review everything was great. Like I said now I'm getting calls stating I owe for another full month's rent.

If you look at the Google reviews for December 1st you will see my review as well as another family's review saying the exact same thing that they were going to be charged for another full month's rent but she went back and took care of the balance ensuring they wouldn't get charged for a full month when they were even there. This proves that I'm not making things up but when I've called supposedly the corporate office as well as the office at hand they tell me the same thing that it's an algorithm that enforces full month's payment if you're not out by the first. Now I do understand procedures and rules as where once it's in the computer and it says you need to pay then it is what it is. But the fact that Joanne who was there in the office 100% insured me that I would not get charged and then had already told another family the exact same thing which is documented and a review then I should not be viable for having to pay that rent.

And as the face of that company your company is should be now held liable for zeroing my account since that is exactly what I was told was going to happen. Also be aware people you get one price and then it seems like every couple months the prices do go up cuz I was told I started out at $79 a month and within 6 months I'm paying $130 or $140. How the heck is that possible? If you go online now it says it's only $49 in store and 39 online so how is it it's $100 difference? This place is a ripoff. They're a scam and something needs to be done before they get sued again because they were just sued in 2016 for the same stuff.

The BBB needs to shut you down for this immoral and selfish behavior that you give to the customers if it doesn't suit your needs at that particular time. I will never ever go back to you guys and I will tell anybody everybody never to go to your place as well. And I am a public figure on the internet with over 20,000 followers and over 200k views and likes so trust me when I say everyone will know how much of a scam you are. I do not ever leave bad remarks on businesses this is the first time I've ever left anything like this because it is 100% true. Stay away from this place.

Yeah, mom died and wanted her stuff. Turns out I would have to pay 265 bucks for the privilege of emptying out a 10 by 30. Yes, it went up 65 bucks in a year after and already high price. No, of course I can't just go in and take her stuff without paying. That's piracy! OK I rented a new public storage place nearby. I got the first month for a dollar but the listed price 54 dollars went up to 65 dollars immediately. I never got the sale price. Seems the only way to get ahead with public storage is to move your stuff around every month. I am going to move my stuff after a month. Lady at my mom's storage place started sobbing that her mom died today but she was all business in telling me that I had to pay first when I asked to get some of my mom's stuff.

I would warn future customers from renting a unit at the Centreville, VA location. Several patrons are leaving this facility for other storage facilities that do not play games on their patrons. It has been less than a year and there have been two outrageous upcharges of $100 each. The monthly cost has nearly DOUBLED from the price 11 months ago. I am paying nearly twice as much but have not been awarded twice the space in compensation. This is not the way to do business nor build a positive relationship with the community. It's time for Public Storage to get on board.

Soon after my online registration last week, this lady called me regarding my interest. Followed her clear guidance with patient answers for my questions, very quickly she earned my trust to proceed for confirmation. The contract with instructions came. She also gave me the number to reach her with specifics (i.e. her off days). I did call her soon after for a minor clarification and got it.

In the morning of the move-in day, I called for the gate code. Only a few minutes later, she rang me back and sent me the code promptly. I passed on the code to my son who just moved to that neighborhood and needed the storage. He was able to check the unit and got the keys right off the bat. That's efficiency. The codes we were sent did not work. We called customer service. Service. They said they disabled the code because they needed further ID info. Which needed to be verified by an onsite agent. Explained already paid. Agent replied that they needed to verify my identity. We told them no one was on site although the store hours were till 5 pm. She said yeah but they don’t need to be there. She said we would have to drive to another facility to an automated system to verify.

We explained that would take 25 miles on a rented U-Haul. We only had till 5pm and charges $1,40 per mile plus gas. She said, "Well we can’t let you in." I told her I would need to get my refund so I could pay the next closest location (different company). She said sorry but it will take 7-10 days for refund. Wound up spending 40 dollars extra on gas going over the time limit on truck and getting a call the next day from Jasmine who sarcastically said, "You are not getting a refund because you didn’t check out yesterday," and I said we never got passed the gate. She said in her own words, "That’s just too bad you didn’t check out yesterday." This was the most aggravating, unprofessional and costly storage facility I have EVER done business with. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY!!!! I rented a unit from public storage Unit A004 from January 2025 until February 2025 at $220.00 per month. I had a moving company do a long distance move in February 2025 that cost me $4300.00. I was discovered during that process after getting a quarter way through the move that this unit was not properly maintained and as a result a family of raccoons had infested the unit. This resulted in thousands of dollars worth of damage to my property. I am attaching photos of the damage done. Dead raccoons, raccoon feces etc. the moved at this point was halted as the area was deemed to be unsafe for the movers. Management at the office was then contacted and I was told "there was nothing that public storage could do about the situation".

My next step was to hire a company to bio hazard the unit and remove the dead animals and all damaged property that cost $900.00. The salvageable items had to be then loaded into a second POD unit which was rudely received by the property manager stating they "didn't want PODS on the property". I found that strange as I would not needed the POD if your unit was maintained properly there would be no need for this additional step in the process and the cost associated with it. I then contacted the area manager Robert ** who was at least apologetic about the situation (something I never got from the property manager BTW). Robert said that he would be talking with upper management to work out a compensation plan for the damage occurred.

In the meantime I filed a claim with my homeowners policy with Progressive that was denied as the were no perils for racoons and I have also attached a copy of that denial. Robert contacted me a few days later saying "we have a settlement offer of $400.00 which I found to be totally unacceptable as they are basically taking no responsibility for what happened to me. The bottom line for me is this company is horrible and should not even be in business. I have plenty picture.

For the first several months I asked over and over to adjust my payment date because I get paid either the 4th or 5th of each month while being charged $35.00 each month for late fees.

When my bill kept increasing, they told me that I can keep my original price if I was to move everything out of my unit and move it back into another unit in the same damn building! Then I thought my payment went through for February and today went to make my payment, $408.00!!! This is the icing on the cake, they said that because I missed last month's payment they had already scheduled an auction for March 26th and they charged me $40.00 on top of the $35.00 and a fee for re-access! I had a catastrophic experience with Public Storage at 12211 Middlebrook Rd, Germantown, MD, and I’d caution anyone against renting here. I leased a 10x10 unit in November 2024, expecting dependable service. On February 17, 2025 (Presidents’ Day), I arrived around 7 PM—within their posted 6 AM-9 PM hours—to store a nearly new disassembled IKEA bed and mattress. The office was deserted, with no staff, hours, or emergency contact posted. The elevator was a disaster—only reaching the 2nd floor (I needed 3rd), doors barely opening, and it trapped me twice, once with another couple joining me. The emergency button connected to someone’s private cellphone, but it was one-way audio—they hung up twice, never following up. Major safety hazards.

Unable to haul the bed and mattress back home alone and needing my car for early school carpooling, I left them neatly on a cart by the elevator. At 8 AM, the office was still empty; my items remained untouched. I waited 20 minutes—no one appeared. By 11 AM, they were gone. An employee admitted tossing them in the dumpster—scratched and broken—labeling them ‘abandoned,’ despite their pristine state on the dolly. They confessed to juggling multiple Public Storage sites, explaining the chronic understaffing. Security footage could’ve proven our elevator ordeal, but they didn’t care to check.

I contacted corporate, demanding reimbursement for my ruined property and accountability for the safety failures. They promised a regional manager’s call within 48 hours—nothing came. Instead, in apparent retaliation, they nearly doubled my rent from $180 to $250 without written notice or consent. This facility is grossly mismanaged, understaffed, unreliable, and unsafe, with a knack for destroying property. Management dodges complaints and punishes you with price gouging. Avoid this greedy, negligent company—I’m out a bed and mattress with no recourse.

I rented a storage space at this facility, only to find that the access was terrible. Every time I needed to get to my unit, I had to back out of a long driveway just to reach my space—an inconvenient and frustrating setup. When I first signed up, they contacted me immediately because I had turned off auto-pay. I did this intentionally due to past experiences with large corporate companies that often charge unnecessary fees. While they may eventually refund incorrect charges, they prefer to take the money upfront, counting on the fact that many customers won’t have the time or resources to dispute them.

When I moved out, I vacated the unit on the second of the month, yet they still attempted to charge me for the entire month. It’s no surprise that these companies have such poor reviews and low ratings—they take advantage of customers, squeezing every last penny out of them simply because they can. After this experience, I will never use Public Storage again. Instead, I’ll find a local, independently owned storage facility where I can trust that I’ll be treated fairly.

Make sure you do your research before signing a contract with Public Storage. We moved out of the country and needed a 10x25 space to hold some of our household goods for up to 7 years. Public Storage advertised the lowest rates so we signed a contract. After only 3 years, we had to take a trip back to the US to move our goods to another storage facility (Storage Q in Festus, Missouri owned by a nice couple). It was well worth it. What we learned about Public Storage (and other corporate-owned storage facilities) is that they hook you in at a low rate and begin raising rates steadily, thinking that people would rather pay the higher rate than go to the trouble to move again. Our rate started at $138 per month and after three years, we were paying $421 per month (a 205% increase). Even after the first year our price rose by 54% (which is way beyond the cost of inflation).

I called them several times and they said that I could rent one of their other storage units at a lower price and move my goods to that one - which obviously is an absurd thing to have to do. By policy, they allow you to delay one increase, only one time for three months. After that, they do not negotiate nor do they allow you to lock in at a fixed price. Had I kept the unit for seven years, I would have ended up paying the price of a two-bedroom apartment. Public Storage is unscrupulous. Just doing 5-minutes of research you will find many similar stories. So my recommendation is that if you need a rental unit for more than 6 months, do not rent from Public Storage.
