My husband and I put our household items, appliances, clothes, important documents including land title, firearm documents in a public storage unit at 8300 University Dr. Tamarac. I noticed the increase of fees on a regular basis of $60.00 or more. We rented the storage for 3 years and paid almost $14,000.00 in storage fees. From January we have been paying every other month which is $860.00 USD. We've been calling the office to find out when is the deadline to make the payment and no response. No one contacted us, we only discovered that they auctioned on belongings on Friday the 24th of May 2025 for less than $800. Without any proper notice at least 14 days prior to any sale according to the Florida statute S 83 806 S 83 807 self storage operations. We have all correspondence and the date they were sent. We are willing to seek the assistance of an attorney if this is not addressed promptly.

Absolute worst most condescending and arrogant customer service agent ever, the agent told me, I was telling her too many details about what my needs were for the storage, she didn’t want to hear it clearly. Did not care, kept recommending me a 5x5 unit because I said the prices were quite expensive, when I had to eventually cut her off and tell her for the third time I have a dresser 7 ft long I need a minimum 5x10 unit, she then said with attitude I cut her off and gave too much information and it was beginning to be too complicated for her, her attitude and the fact she was not listening to my needs to begin with, made me so happy I did not take a storage unit with Public Storage.

I will be staying with U-haul and the staff are much nicer and polite there and helpful and the units are clean, after such a poor customer service on their national line I’m so happy to be staying a uhaul customer. I am paying $348 for parking spot. Now here’s where the nightmare begins. Across from my trailer a very large plumber’s truck that sticks way out into the lane. Completely blocking my ability to exit my spot. Having to call management every single time I wanted to pull my trailer out. Such a nightmare and they continue to put larger vehicle vehicles right next to my trailer every month. It’s a new vehicle and bigger than the last. Do yourself a favor. Do not ever deal with this company. Absolutely never ever ever.

They get you in with a decent rate and then every so many months they Jack it up on you. The insurance for $15 a month is a complete waste of time because it only covers $250. Unfortunately my items were in there for about 2 years. I only went to the unit a few times a year. Recently I went back to get everything out and discovered all the boxes and some of the bins they even managed to get in were infested with rat poop and urine. There was also mildew on the walls and on my items. Most of the stuff had to get thrown away. At that location there are no employees even to cancel to make sure I don't get charged in a few days. I had to leave a voicemail hoping that somebody's going to call me back in time. There is weather strip missing from the doors making it even easier for bugs and mice to get in.

As a long term customer of almost 15 years, the Public Storage business model of the forever and endless, criminal rate increases, are driving people away. My first unit a 10’x30’ was about $100.00 Monthly, escalating to nearly $600.00. That’s pure robbery. I moved to another unit because this rental was more than a mortgage payment. Started out at $202.00 now they are at it again and smacking another $74.00 per month increase, isn’t that lovely. So, their customer service is as effective as “ZERO”. The only saving grace where I’m renting is the very attentive and informative manager “Nick”. He tries his best and is what customer service for this company should be modeled after. Public Storage will continue this trend to keep the wealthy upper crust management flush with yachts and golf club fees. Sickening.

The setup started when the Property Manager said I could get a lower monthly price for the same size unit (10x10) right next door (to save $90, per month). The theft was reported to the Hurst Police Department and a "case number" was assigned. My Master Lock was picked and several items were removed to a value that exceeded $10k. I have relocated my belongings to another storage facility which has a sensor inside the unit that notifies me when the unit has been opened. Before you go and open an account you might want to ask the question: "How many reported thefts have you had?"

Updated on 05/21/2025: The regional manager called my sister and I back and did make the situation right. I'm grateful for her willingness to listen and understand. I still believe this company engages in bait and switch tactics, but at least the regional manager acknowledged our frustrations and corrected the issue for us.

Original Review: DO NOT RENT HERE. I rented two storage units at the 6800 South State Street location in Midvale, UT for my sister. My sister was explicitly told over the phone that the first month would be free, and that we would only be charged a pro-rated amount for any additional days if we moved out early the following month. Based on this information, I agreed to pay the rent.

My sister moved in on April 28, 2025 and moved out completely by May 2, 2025—just a few days into the next month. I was shocked to discover that Public Storage refused to honor the pro-rated pricing and demanded full payment for the entire month of May, even though she vacated almost immediately. When we called to dispute the charge, we were told that the pro-rated pricing “wasn’t company policy” and that the contract my sister signed stated this. This directly contradicts what she was told by their employee before signing the agreement. Had we been accurately informed, I would never have rented from them in the first place.

This is not a simple misunderstanding—this is a bait-and-switch tactic. They lure you in with verbal promises, then hide behind legal language in the contract when those promises aren’t honored. That is deceptive, unethical, and unacceptable. I escalated the issue to a regional manager, but instead of addressing it professionally, my sister received a call from a generic 866 number telling her the complaint was denied—though they “generously” offered to charge half the month instead. That is still unacceptable. We were misled by their staff, and I do not believe customers should be penalized for internal training failures or dishonest sales tactics.

For the record, Public Storage is not BBB accredited, and this experience makes it easy to see why. BOTTOM LINE: If you’re considering renting from this location (or any Public Storage location), read every word of the contract and do not trust any verbal assurances you are given. Better yet, take your business to a company that stands behind its word and treats customers with transparency and integrity. I strongly advise against renting from Public Storage. My experience involved misleading billing practices and what I believe to be deceptive and unethical treatment of customers. Proceed with extreme caution. If Public Storage wishes to rectify this situation, they are welcome to contact me with an acceptable resolution. I would be more than happy to update this review to reflect that they listened to their customer and made things right.

Kept calling, requesting the form that I needed. After 2 weeks and 17 calls/messages left, call was returned. Manager said they do not require the form and all I had to do was stop paying and they would just take the unit over after 60 days. I and now receiving calls from a collection agency saying I owe $900. Don't get yourself involved with this company.

1000 reviews with 1 star is clearly the best indicator of the value and service of this sham operation that does not provide accurate measurements for their units but sells you what your needs are in measurements regardless of the reality of the unit's actual size. A 10x20 unit with an 8" entrance is not a viable option if you need to have 10' width to get into the 10x20 unit. And then argue that it's 10' when your tape measure indicates 8' otherwise is simply ignorant and a denial which results in no refund since they say 10'. Many storage places around with actual people onsite makes a big difference, but then for the lousy corporations like PS with 75% of the customers satisfied can just leave the 25% at a loss and not be bothered. Claim denied, we made our money.

I enjoyed talking to him and his patience with me driving and trying to answer the texts he was sending to activate my unit. He was great! When I finally got to my unit I was horrified to see rats running through the facility! Even more horrifying was the worker telling me a rat ran across his foot when he opened the facility that morning! Shaking my head! It was raining and I had too much to unpack and place into the unit to turn back now! I was so upset spiders and webs were everywhere in the unit! I had to go buy a broom from the dollar store across the street and to the Home Depot a few blocks away to get Rat traps! I also purchased spray for spiders. I swept the webs out spiders were running everywhere!

The worker gave me a packet of rat poison and I set up my traps in each corner and sprinkled Ajax around the perimeter in case of water and to deter rodents and bugs! I placed my belongings inside and poured bleach on the door once I locked it. I’m absolutely appalled by the rat infestation!! So I went back today and there’s a rodent in the trap and it’s large! On my way back to my vehicle I’m going down the aisle in the facility and dog poo is just sitting in the floor with lots of flies enjoying it! Ughhh! I called customer service and demanded I be transferred to another facility closer to where I live and I want a month off! They claim they will get back to me and they claim they’re sending someone to spray and clean that particular facility location on Aramingo Ave in Philadelphia!

Don’t be fooled by low introductory rates to get you locked into their setup. Prepare for scheduled price increases. 3 months to the day of being at public storage they took my rate from $177 to $238. A $47 increase. On top of their gate rarely working and property management rarely being available these scheduled rate hikes are predicted abusive billing practices. They use low introductory rates to get you moved into their facility and with perfectly timed planning they increase your rate.

Then you have to play their silly game and call and cancel your current unit and reserve a new unit at the lower rate. I tried that and they said since I was already a customer they couldn’t give me a low rate so I just told them to cancel me and I’ll be moved out by my next billing cycle. Magically they were able to lock me in at a rate that was only $10 higher than original rate for the next three months. When I moved in I even asked the lady at the front counter how often they do rate hikes and she said “Public Storage is known for keeping rates the same for long periods of time”. For me, the lack of transparency makes me not want to give this company my business. And I’m doing just that. I’ll be out of here in less than 30 days and won’t ever bring my business back.

I also know several other friends and business owners who keep items here and I have reached out to them to educate them how to beat public storage at their own stupid game. Do better PUBLIC STORAGE. Be transparent. And perhaps honor the words in the emails you send that claim you appreciate our loyalty. You lost a customer.

Not to mention the new rate breakdown they send is completely contradictory. Somehow standard rent of $206 minus $50 credit somehow gives you rent of $238 that when $50 is subtracted from gets me to the final rate of $187. Why even mention the $206? It’s irrelevant and rather than make you feel like you’re getting a deal, you get to see the nonsense they try and pull on customers. At no time was my rent ever $156 (standard rent of $206 minus $50 credit). Why not just be transparent? Id rather you start me off at a higher rate and lock it in for a year vs this nonsense. But like most big businesses, once they have the leverage over you, they know youll usually comply as its inconvenient to move back out.

You can sit and wait forever. Horrible place and I got billed $66 and I wasn’t even two weeks into the thing went up. They are awful. Don’t do it.

Despite automated doors and gates, it's only open until 9pm now. They also have high rate increases, and have high (mandatory) insurance rates. Claims to be climate controlled, but always very cold in the winter. No trash available. Poor parking.

I wouldn’t recommend Public Storage if you have ANY other options. It’s very easy to set up online but after the sale comes the nightmare. They will send you messages that you owe money when you don’t. Try finding someone who can help you with that! If you have a problem, customer service is virtually non-existent. The 800 number is a loop that will send you nowhere to find a human to talk to. If you dig deeply enough, you can find a customer service email that doesn’t do much of anything. The “chat live” link has been completely disabled. Essentially, they are a building with no support.

On December 1st 2024 I was a month behind on my storage. I went there to get everything out and was told I needed to pay for another full month's rent because it was on the 1st. Now the person that was there in the office Joanna I believe or Joanne was very courteous and caring about my situation which is why I wrote a very good review about her. This is now April 2025 and I am getting calls stating I owe money. December 1st Joanne told me as long as I got everything out before the end of the office hours she would go back in and zero out my storage as long I was caught up on my past due balance which I did. I paid $239. After she's zeroed everything out I wrote a review everything was great. Like I said now I'm getting calls stating I owe for another full month's rent.

If you look at the Google reviews for December 1st you will see my review as well as another family's review saying the exact same thing that they were going to be charged for another full month's rent but she went back and took care of the balance ensuring they wouldn't get charged for a full month when they were even there. This proves that I'm not making things up but when I've called supposedly the corporate office as well as the office at hand they tell me the same thing that it's an algorithm that enforces full month's payment if you're not out by the first. Now I do understand procedures and rules as where once it's in the computer and it says you need to pay then it is what it is. But the fact that Joanne who was there in the office 100% insured me that I would not get charged and then had already told another family the exact same thing which is documented and a review then I should not be viable for having to pay that rent.

And as the face of that company your company is should be now held liable for zeroing my account since that is exactly what I was told was going to happen. Also be aware people you get one price and then it seems like every couple months the prices do go up cuz I was told I started out at $79 a month and within 6 months I'm paying $130 or $140. How the heck is that possible? If you go online now it says it's only $49 in store and 39 online so how is it it's $100 difference? This place is a ripoff. They're a scam and something needs to be done before they get sued again because they were just sued in 2016 for the same stuff.

The BBB needs to shut you down for this immoral and selfish behavior that you give to the customers if it doesn't suit your needs at that particular time. I will never ever go back to you guys and I will tell anybody everybody never to go to your place as well. And I am a public figure on the internet with over 20,000 followers and over 200k views and likes so trust me when I say everyone will know how much of a scam you are. I do not ever leave bad remarks on businesses this is the first time I've ever left anything like this because it is 100% true. Stay away from this place.

I was discovered during that process after getting a quarter way through the move that this unit was not properly maintained and as a result a family of raccoons had infested the unit. This resulted in thousands of dollars worth of damage to my property. I am attaching photos of the damage done. Dead raccoons, raccoon feces etc. the moved at this point was halted as the area was deemed to be unsafe for the movers. Management at the office was then contacted and I was told "there was nothing that public storage could do about the situation".

My next step was to hire a company to bio hazard the unit and remove the dead animals and all damaged property that cost $900.00. The salvageable items had to be then loaded into a second POD unit which was rudely received by the property manager stating they "didn't want PODS on the property". I found that strange as I would not needed the POD if your unit was maintained properly there would be no need for this additional step in the process and the cost associated with it. I then contacted the area manager Robert ** who was at least apologetic about the situation (something I never got from the property manager BTW). Robert said that he would be talking with upper management to work out a compensation plan for the damage occurred.

In the meantime I filed a claim with my homeowners policy with Progressive that was denied as the were no perils for racoons and I have also attached a copy of that denial. Robert contacted me a few days later saying "we have a settlement offer of $400.00 which I found to be totally unacceptable as they are basically taking no responsibility for what happened to me. I had a catastrophic experience with Public Storage at 12211 Middlebrook Rd, Germantown, MD, and I’d caution anyone against renting here. I leased a 10x10 unit in November 2024, expecting dependable service. On February 17, 2025 (Presidents’ Day), I arrived around 7 PM—within their posted 6 AM-9 PM hours—to store a nearly new disassembled IKEA bed and mattress. The office was deserted, with no staff, hours, or emergency contact posted. The elevator was a disaster—only reaching the 2nd floor (I needed 3rd), doors barely opening, and it trapped me twice, once with another couple joining me. The emergency button connected to someone’s private cellphone, but it was one-way audio—they hung up twice, never following up. Major safety hazards.

Unable to haul the bed and mattress back home alone and needing my car for early school carpooling, I left them neatly on a cart by the elevator. At 8 AM, the office was still empty; my items remained untouched. I waited 20 minutes—no one appeared. By 11 AM, they were gone. An employee admitted tossing them in the dumpster—scratched and broken—labeling them ‘abandoned,’ despite their pristine state on the dolly. They confessed to juggling multiple Public Storage sites, explaining the chronic understaffing. Security footage could’ve proven our elevator ordeal, but they didn’t care to check.

I contacted corporate, demanding reimbursement for my ruined property and accountability for the safety failures. They promised a regional manager’s call within 48 hours—nothing came. Instead, in apparent retaliation, they nearly doubled my rent from $180 to $250 without written notice or consent. This facility is grossly mismanaged, understaffed, unreliable, and unsafe, with a knack for destroying property. Management dodges complaints and punishes you with price gouging. Avoid this greedy, negligent company—I’m out a bed and mattress with no recourse.

I rented a storage space at this facility, only to find that the access was terrible. Every time I needed to get to my unit, I had to back out of a long driveway just to reach my space—an inconvenient and frustrating setup. When I first signed up, they contacted me immediately because I had turned off auto-pay. I did this intentionally due to past experiences with large corporate companies that often charge unnecessary fees. While they may eventually refund incorrect charges, they prefer to take the money upfront, counting on the fact that many customers won’t have the time or resources to dispute them.

When I moved out, I vacated the unit on the second of the month, yet they still attempted to charge me for the entire month. It’s no surprise that these companies have such poor reviews and low ratings—they take advantage of customers, squeezing every last penny out of them simply because they can. After this experience, I will never use Public Storage again. Instead, I’ll find a local, independently owned storage facility where I can trust that I’ll be treated fairly.

Make sure you do your research before signing a contract with Public Storage. We moved out of the country and needed a 10x25 space to hold some of our household goods for up to 7 years. Public Storage advertised the lowest rates so we signed a contract. After only 3 years, we had to take a trip back to the US to move our goods to another storage facility (Storage Q in Festus, Missouri owned by a nice couple). It was well worth it. What we learned about Public Storage (and other corporate-owned storage facilities) is that they hook you in at a low rate and begin raising rates steadily, thinking that people would rather pay the higher rate than go to the trouble to move again. Our rate started at $138 per month and after three years, we were paying $421 per month (a 205% increase). Even after the first year our price rose by 54% (which is way beyond the cost of inflation).

I called them several times and they said that I could rent one of their other storage units at a lower price and move my goods to that one - which obviously is an absurd thing to have to do. By policy, they allow you to delay one increase, only one time for three months. After that, they do not negotiate nor do they allow you to lock in at a fixed price. Had I kept the unit for seven years, I would have ended up paying the price of a two-bedroom apartment. Public Storage is unscrupulous. Just doing 5-minutes of research you will find many similar stories. So my recommendation is that if you need a rental unit for more than 6 months, do not rent from Public Storage.

ALSO I've helped family members move items into other storage units. Public Storage temperature controlled units are not very good. There are better temp controlled units out there. Avoid, it's a rip off business model. They get you in at a price (for me it was 180/mo) and then will consistently move the rate up (after 2 years it was 340). So it almost doubled. When I called to try to get a fair price restored, first they made me play phone tag, and one even refused to talk to me at all without a "security code" which I didn't have. The ones that would talk to me claimed that they had to increase costs to make money, etc. Nobody would help me, I always "needed to talk to someone else" or "that's just the way the storage business works, too bad".

What disgusted me was checking their current rates on their own website and seeing my EXACT unit at the EXACT same location still offered at the EXACT $180 price. So, this is a predatory business. They have calculated that they can make more profits by exorbitant rent price increases several times a year vs. advertising and signing up their new customers at a transparent but slightly higher price. I will never do business with them again.

I have receipts from the new facility and the moving company confirming I moved out. Not being an idiot, I turned off the AutoPay. I didn't trust Public Storage to NOT try to steal money from my account for a storage unit they knew I no longer occupied.

Three guess as to what they did. That's right. They tried to take money from my account, they were thwarted because the AutoPay was no longer active. I'm now receiving threatening phone calls and emails, demanding I pay them rent for a unit they know I no longer occupy. I went to the storage facility, showed them my lock (which they advised me to take with me when I moved out, further proof they knew I was moving out). They insisted there is a lock on my old unit, therefore I still occupy it and have to pay.

Either they're lying about a lock being on the unit, they placed a lock on an empty unit, or they already rented the unit to someone else and are fraudulently trying to get paid twice for the same unit. We moved from Europe to the US and needed extra storage for a couple of months. Our storage unit got broken into and our collection of antiques which we gathered for over 25 years was stolen from us. They also took boxes with family pictures and unique art pieces by my late artist grandfather. The insurance Public Storage offered is useless as they need receipts which we don’t have for antiques that have been in the family since 3 or 4 generations. When I asked the receptionist if we were a unique case, he answered we were the 4th robbed box in a week and there was a plague nationwide.

Thieves open an account anonymously to get access to the grounds, park a van in front of the door to block the view for the cameras, open it with a bolt cutter, empty the box and off they are. We filed a police report and by the time an inspector was on the case, Public Storage had already erased all the video material. I am truly devastated. Their business model is borderline malicious as they don’t improve the security. They also raised the fee for our box from $140 to $200 in 5 months. Many people using their service need this as a temporary solution and are already in some kind of struggle and the main shareholder, who is the founder’s daughter, is the 241 richest person on the planet sitting on $8 billion. I feel like I’m robbed twice. Avoid at all costs.

Problem with website description of unit and customer service for 151 Handover St., Peabody Massachusetts. I Stop by to look at the space I wanted to rent to confirm it was what I wanted. During business hours no one was there. I stopped by three times from 10:00-3:15 and left two messages to call me back about questions about the space. I also called the main Public Storage to help me complete the rental and they said The system wouldn’t let them complete the booking and I had to do it in the Office or online. I was moving my daughter‘s dorm stuff so I had to go ahead and book online because no one would call me back or was in office during business hours. The space is misleading. The Description of a space says ceilings of locker maybe lower than typical units. It says it has elevator access but does not mention once you use the elevator to get to the space. You then have to climb at 10 foot ladder to put stuff in the unit.

This is why I wanted to look at it first. When Ana finally opened at 3.47 in the afternoon on Friday 17th I let Ana know that this is not the type of space I need and I need to switch to one that starts on the ground. She informed me I could change the unit to one that was taller and on floor level. She said the new price was gonna cost me $32. I ask why if I booked online it was $22.00. She told me she could not give me that rate. That I had to cancel the first reservation and wouldn’t refund me the $29 administrative fee and I would have to pay it again to book another space online. I should’ve not had to pay $29 twice to book the right space. Ana’s customer service was cold and unhelpful. She would not even call someone to make sure this couldn’t be corrected. Someone should’ve been in the office during the office hours. This would’ve avoided the problem altogether.

I am writing to express my extreme dissatisfaction with the escalating storage rates at [Your Local Public Storage Location]. Over the past four years, I have consistently paid my rent on time, despite facing significant financial challenges while serving on overseas missions. Despite my consistent payments, the monthly rate for my 10x25 unit has increased dramatically, from $217.80 to the current $366, with a proposed further increase to $422. These exorbitant increases are unsustainable and financially burdensome, particularly now that I have relocated to North Carolina. Furthermore, the lack of adequate security at this facility is a major concern. The prospect of losing all my possessions, including irreplaceable family heirlooms, due to an unforeseen inability to keep up with these escalating costs is deeply unsettling.

To add further insult to injury, I now face the significant expense of relocating my belongings from Alabama to North Carolina. These exorbitant storage costs, coupled with the added expense of moving, have created an immense financial burden. I have attempted to address these concerns with management and have also tried to contact customer service at the corporate level. However, I have encountered significant difficulties in reaching a human representative. The automated phone system and limited customer service options make it extremely challenging to resolve issues and voice concerns effectively.

I strongly advise against using Public Storage due to their exorbitant pricing, inadequate security measures, lack of customer-centric policies, and the difficulties encountered in resolving customer concerns. I believe this company prioritizes profit over customer satisfaction and fails to provide a reliable and secure storage solution. I would prefer to not give them one star, however I am required to in order to make this post.

Easy to set up a unit but the exit has been a horrible experience! Vacated in December with end date of 12/31/24. Did exactly what I was told to do - use app to put move out date, remove contents, leave lock off, and leave door open. January I get a call that I haven't paid my bill, told her I had moved out and done what I was told to do. Couple days later another call and told that my unit still had a lock on it.... Told her not my lock! Today after many more calls, voice mails and messages left with no success in getting this issue resolved I get a notice of default. Again I get on phone trying to reach a human and told the same thing that it would take 48 to 72 hours to see what is happening and they'd reach out to the district manager - I've left several messages for him also on the number he gave me when he gave me instructions for terminating the lease.

I'm not sure who has stuff in that unit or who's lock is on the unit but if they cut the lock and sell the contents - the stuff isn't mine so they will be selling someone else stuff. I'm thinking they have rerented it and not removed me from the unit properly or someone has rented and put their stuff in the wrong unit. Today started the next 48 to 72 hours for them to figure out what is happening - no call in 72 hours and I'll be calling my attorney to start legal process to stop the harassment and the false charges! Will never use them again nor would I ever recommend them to anyone! Customer service has been weak at best!!!!

When I found my little 5’x10’ storage unit for less than $200 monthly, I was so happy. In December 2022, I was forced from my home in a terrible divorce, and all I had left in the world would fit into this tiny locker. In fact, there was room left over most importantly, wise my racing wheelchair that was given to me so that I could compete at the Olympic level as a para athlete. Since then, my rent has gone up for that little locker from less than $200 to nearly $300. Recently, the firestorms in L.A. County forced me to evacuate from my transitional housing unit at West Los Angeles VA Medical Center. Now my living situation is even more tenuous than it was in December 2022.

I’m grateful that many businesses, even the phone company have relaxed the due dates for services and storage because of the extreme hardship being endured for the victims of the Los Angeles County fire storms. This is not the case with Public Storage. If I am one day late for a payment, the coercion via nasty threats begin. They charge horrible late charges and threaten that even if I catch up my account, they will not allow me to access my few little possessions.

The rent is always just about to go up, the service charges are always hammering me down And there is absolutely no consideration of mercy towards the poverty stricken homeless disabled veterans like myself I don’t need to get out of paying my bills, but these terrible threats, when I’m only two weeks late, make me feel as if I’m living in a dystopian culture like The Third Reich! Unfortunately, I can’t give them the rating. They deserve. Because I can’t go lower than one. Public Storage is an awful company constantly on the workout for ways to extort your last dollar, separate you from your possessions - forever.

As a loyal Public Storage customer since 2017, I am extremely frustrated with the lack of professionalism I experienced with property manager Miranda. I formally complained about her behavior in March 2023 when she refused to answer my questions and spoke to me in a condescending manner. Despite promises from corporate that my concerns would be taken seriously, nothing has changed.

While traveling for work in Boston, I encountered further issues when items scheduled for auction on December 24th were mishandled due to technical difficulties I had with payments on my larger unit. Miranda insisted I had to pay on time, yet I was unable to make the payment because the system wouldn’t accept it. Despite having the funds available, I missed the deadline. When I finally reached Miranda after many attempts, instead of receiving help, I felt dismissed. I urgently asked her to contact the buyer of my items, which included personal documents, but she continued to avoid my calls and failed to follow through with any assistance over the next several days.

After another week of attempts to reach her, I connected with a manager at a different location who quickly resolved my queries. This entire experience left me feeling disregarded by Miranda and Public Storage. Despite my many attempts at communicating, I have not received any feedback from corporate or the district manager. Overall, my customer service experience has been unacceptable. If you’re considering using Public Storage, think twice. You may find yourself at a loss for words—or worse, for your belongings.

An agent that worked for them told me that they get complaints all the time and in fact they put in their notice and was leaving the company for this particular behavior as this is what they plan on doing to all customers in hopes that the customer cannot pay and they will then end up with items in the unit to sale them and the company makes even more money.

That employee stated is a ongoing bet which unit they will get. The employees get to bet and whoever wins the bet gets to pick one big item out of the unit to keep as their prize. How horrible! Stay away from location on Granbury Rd in Fort Worth TX as the service is the worst on top of the scam they have going on which attorney is looking into and states could be end up being a massive lawsuit.

There was never anybody ever at any facility every time I called. No one ever answered the phone at this facility. There was nobody there. We had to call the national hotline, so they're telling me I'm at the wrong door. Go back to the other door that I was previously at twice.

Now I'm able to get in because she says she reset whatever the code was, but I'm still like I can't get into the facility to park my car coming to find out they gave me an outdoor storage. I had to pick up my other car that was getting worked on So I had somebody following me wasted over 2 hours with these dudes, and then when I asked for my money back, they told me they couldn't give it to me. Today, I moved out and into a clean, bright facility, same-sized unit (10x15) for $366 LESS per month. I face-to-face told the front desk I was closing my account, was asked why, supplied my answer, and received absolutely no reply! Told them they'll finally have to replace the bulb if they want to rent the unit again and still received no reply. This facility also does not have carts. Makes moving in/out even less fun; bring your own dolly/hand truck! BeSmart and find Self Storage elsewhere!

Terrible customer service just now when I messaged to ask about this December 2024 payment email from CubeSmart instead of Public Storage. We’ve been renting a space here for years via autopay and out of the blue, with no email communication I can find, it seems this place got acquired and a new company is asking for payment. Messaged the online agent and they basically told me there’s nothing they can do, they don’t have any of our account information anymore, and to go talk to the new company about my account.

I asked if they could share a contact email for CubeSmart and their reply was “Unfortunately, no. This is beyond our assistance” like they don’t give a damn anymore and can’t even pretend to figure out how to contact the company that took over so we aren’t left hanging and when I asked where I could file a complaint to Public Storage about the lack of warning and lack of account and payment transition support, they basically said “no one. Contact CubeSmart. If nothing else, thank you for visiting" and then they ended the chat. Terrible service. Really expected better and at least communications about the change of management and how to properly get set up with the new system so no payments are late.

I rented from Public Storage 13 months ago (10/23). My rate was a promotional rate of $67/mo. In April 2024, the rate was increased to $95/mo. Okay, I had been anticipating this. Promotions don't last forever. In late November 2024, I receive a notice informing me that on 1/1/25, my rate will be $123/mo. Payments have always been by AutoPay, so I have never been late. I don't feel the need to visit my unit very often. Several months passed before I went. But when I did, my gate code was not recognized. I saw the info regarding downloading the app for easier access. I downloaded the app. This didn't work. No internet access was the culprit. I called the office for my location. Was told (via a recording) I had reached a different location.

I left a message. I never heard from anyone. I went to the website & chatted with the rep. I was told 'It shows there has been no interruption with my code. It has not been disabled at any time.' At no point was I able to get a valid phone number in order to talk to a person. As for this latest rent increase, I do not intend to go through that run around again. Leaving a review seems to be the only way I can voice my opinion on Public Storage's practices. I will be moving my things.

If I wanted humid I'd get a cheaper outside unit. Now my things have mold on them and I had bugs and was told to take care of it myself. So I decided I'm going to vacate and I get a attitude saying, "You still have to pay your bill." I moved in late which prorated and I am allergic to mold so I couldn't vacate right away and I also had to make sure I was taking verminates and bugs and anything else with me.

Like I said the manager before was on point and it was maintained correctly. I don't know what happened but I'm not happy. As a relocating medical professional with an ER doctor background moving from Florida to North Carolina, I experienced a rather unsatisfactory interaction with a Public Storage customer service representative, whose demeanor was unfortunately less hospitable than one might expect from a company operating within the service sector. Despite my clearly communicated requirements for a storage solution suitable for a Jaguar vehicle & personal furnishings, the CSR's tone was marked by a discernible sarcasm when addressing a minor error in the provided zip code. This individual proceeded to question the operational status of my vehicle & its registration, seemingly assuming an authoritative stance that felt both unnecessary and disrespectful.

Moreover, the representative's subsequent remark, implying that my failure to pay the storage fees could result in my possessions being relegated to a "junkyard," was not only unprofessional but also indicative of a troubling corporate culture that may not align with the respect & care that I would prefer for my belongings. My primary concern was to obtain a comprehensive quote encompassing both my vehicle & furniture storage needs. However, the CSR's persistent focus on furniture storage only served to exacerbate the situation.

Given the lack of attentiveness to my specific requirements & the disrespectful tone of the conversation, I chose to seek alternative storage options from a competitor whose approach to customer service was more aligned with my expectations. This decision was motivated by a desire to ensure that my valuables are managed by a company that demonstrates a genuine commitment to customer satisfaction & respects the significance of the trust placed in them by their clients.

When I initially rented my storage space, I specifically asked, "How long is the rate good for?" The representative assured me, "As long as you rent it." I knew to be skeptical, expecting eventual increases, but I was recently hit with a 20% hike. After doing some research, it became clear that this increase wasn’t random—it’s part of their business strategy. Moving to a new unit would cost even more than the increase itself, making it financially impractical to leave. These companies know this; once your belongings are in storage, they effectively have leverage over you. If you don’t pay the higher rate, they can lock up your unit and ultimately auction your items. Moving out is possible but costly, and their pricing model relies on most customers opting to stay despite increases.

This isn’t a one-off tactic—larger storage companies use this numbers game regularly. For them, a few customers leaving due to price hikes is offset by the higher rates they collect from everyone who stays. Recommendation: Avoid large storage companies with month-to-month leases if possible. Instead, look for small, independently-owned businesses that offer 6-month or 1-year contracts, more like an apartment lease, which may have more predictable rates. If that’s not an option, do your research on pricing practices for each company to see how often and by how much they typically raise rates. Be cautious of "move-in specials," which often come with significant rate increases shortly after you settle in.

Don't get sucked in with their fake promotions, because after you get all of your stuff in the unit, the price will rapidly start increasing... Who wants to move out after all the work of moving in... NEVER AGAIN, PUBLIC STORAGE!!
