Please note: FIRST MONTH'S RENT IS NOT $1. I got my lease on December 18, 2022. I am thinking rent is not due until January 18, 2022. No, the prorated rent for January is due 14 days later, January 1, 2023. I was informed by customer service that if the prorated amount is not paid by January 1, 2023, they will lock my unit on 1/2/2023. I wish I had read the reviews before I rented.

I have never wrote a bad review but having went through this I just had to share, I moved my things out of storage half way through the move, the elevator breaks down so the movers had to move my things down 3 flights of stairs. I don't have a problem with the storage place but you should have elevators that work for commercial use, I have never seen this happen before, I ended up paying $400 more on my move because of the extra time it took for them to get stuff downstairs, that was very upsetting.

I chose Public Storage for my storage unit because of location, convenience, and a competitive rate. I have never had a storage unit. Everything was smooth. After 5 months I noticed my bill increased $60 a month for rent, almost 25%. Mind you, the current promotion on my unit is half of the rent I was paying. I was forced to rent a truck and get out and will never go back. Employees could care less. Company can increase your rent at any time for any reason. Just a bait and switch company and a horrible business model. I am moving to another storage unit company, paying a little more but do not expect ridiculous rent increases. I would not recommend Public Storage to anyone.

I spoke with someone through chat and he was rude over chat. This was two weeks ago. Boom spoke with someone today over chat. They were rude. Got off the line with them and got a email saying I requested to vacate. Lol. I did state I would be moving my stuff out by Dec first cause all I get is rudeness, unprofessional so I hit the chat back up. Now the lady can’t verify my information. All of a sudden boom call the number. My information was verified immediately but that rep was horrible. Horrible. No empathy.
When I mention that the previous agent took 30 mins and could not verify me he was very rude but hey I would recommend a chair to be put on no units. The manager Sheryl from the Plano office is nice. I owe her a apology mussels but these other people OMG. I thought they were bill collectors. Mind you my unit is paid for so I’m confused as to the rudeness. Nope not again. I’m done done. Well at least my Dallas cowboys won today. Peace, love and soul.

I would recommend to any one that needed storage NOT to rent from Public Storage! I have used storage units on and off throughout my life. Public Storage is by far the worst storage company I have ever used and I will never use them again. Public Storage charged me for my October rent, withdrew the $177 monthly fee from my account October 3rd and informed me the same day that my unit had been broken into. There were no cameras around where my unit was located. After filing a police report, the same day October 3rd, I cleaned out my storage unit and closed out the storage unit with the front office. The next day October 4th Public Storage refunded my $177 monthly fee for October. Then, November 16th, I received a notice from a collection company for $177.
After speaking with the collecting agency, I contacted Public Storage directly. I spoke with 3 different employees, and explained the situation. The last one told me since Public Storage had refunded me by mistake I should just pay her the $177. I explained to her there is now a mark on my credit report from Public Storage sending me to collections for the funds I've already paid and they refunded. Awful.

In my experience with this company for a 6x9 unit because I was hospitalized and the payment was late charged me 179.00 for the unit plus 22 dollars for insurance, 59 dollar lien fee and another 40 late fee...The total they sent me that I owed was 293.00...The unit is 70.00 and I had been paying 97.00. Then I paid the money and they informed me I need to secure my unit with a lock?!?! I bought my lock from them and have never needed to go check on my unit as of late because they are suppose to be a secure place...I believe they were in my unit and cut my lock off trying to see what I may have.

Don't think that you can just walk up during normal business hours to the office and have someone be there or even answer the phone and when you call corporate to try to figure it out all you get is to talk to a computer. Unreasonably poor customer service and extremely expensive. When I pay top dollar I expect at least have decent customer service. Definitely not the case with this company.

If you're looking for storage, go somewhere else. Most Public Storage require you to buy a lock you can't use anywhere else. They don't pro-rate moving out early, so if you don't move out before the charge hits, you're bound to another month. The light in front of my unit was non-functional for 4 months. I complained three times and then call the regional manager to complain. It finally got fixed. On-site manager is rude and slow. Terrible customer service. Raising rates every 6-months without any improvements or services added. I had to rent for a year while my house was being built and in the end I was paying double what I started out at.
There was a leak from somewhere in the divider of the unit. When they looked at the roof and above the divider they could not find where it was coming from. They had to look from the top opening of my unit and saw a pack of the rodent poison they have in every unit and claimed it was a cold pack that was leaking. I said that was their rodent poison pack and it wasn't coming from that. I suggested the unit next to mine must of has something and sure enough, they had a bucket of Damp Rid that had tip over. I had insurance through my insurance company. Which was much cheaper than theirs. That covered the damage thankfully to my items that were in there. Who knows if they would have cover that with their insurance.

Absolutely do NOT use this place. When picking up our stuff, the key got stuck in the lock. The lady at the front desk refused to help or call for assistance and instead said "we should go buy wd-40." Never mind the fact that we have movers sitting there getting paid by the hour. We asked her what they would do if a customer stopped paying their bill. She said they would "cut the lock and sell the contents of the unit." We then asked her to cut the lock for us. She refused because the "people who cut locks aren't here."
We had to go and buy a cutter ourselves. In addition to this, there were a few previous negative experiences. There was almost a month-long period where their phones were down (or so they say) and they failed to return numerous phone calls. The guy who finally called back was pretty blunt and rude, and yes, claimed that their phones "were down for a month." Look elsewhere. Notice the positive reviews for this place are almost entirely on the way in.

I’m a Public Storage customer and because of the laziness of the property manager when there were people on the property with bolt cutters breaking into units and she was promptly notified the property manager did nothing resulting in storage units broken into mine included. Now you have insurance. You say, "Well guess what? Orange Door insurance will not pay your claim so it’s a total scam." They take your money and then when you need them they do nothing. You’re better off burning your things. The security floors are open at Public Storage. There is no security safeguarding your property and you can read the long history of customers who’ve had this very same complaint.

I reserved a space for storage. The website showed it was on the first. I went through the reservation process and received emails, one included the access code. On the move-in date I tried the access code several times but it would not work. I went the office the next day and the manager said the computer gets confused sometimes and the codes don't work.
I asked about my unit, she said to go in such and such door and take the elevator to the second floor! Uh oh. I specifically wanted a first floor unit and the website, reservation system and emails all showed it was on the first floor. So I asked the manager to move me to a first floor unit and she said none were available. I said give me the space I reserved on the website on the first floor or give me a refund. She said Public Storage gives no refunds. I told her their information was fraudulent and not accurate. She said there was nothing she could and I could call customer service. I called them and got in the phone queue. I recommend that you not do business with Public Storage or be prepared to be put in a space which you did not expect (3rd floor vs 1st). And your access code might not work either!

Bait and switch once again! I was told last year that our rate would not be increased by more than 10% per year yet for the second year in a row I received a notification that my rate will be going up almost 40% and it's almost impossible to get a hold of anyone to discuss/resolve the issue. It's really unfortunate they take advantage of their customers this way with no proper explanation other than that their rates are competitive. The premises are dirty, garbage in the elevator areas and there are rarely carts available even when there are only a couple other cars there. Not worth the money and dishonesty.

I thought District Managers were there to help customers! I have had such a bad experience, I am in tears! I have been a Public Storage customer for years. I have never been late with a payment. I have six units throughout the Bronx. The manager, ** at the 367 Southern Blvd location in the Bronx, has been very nasty to me on multiple occasions and verbally abusive to my elderly parents. Whenever I have expressed concern over this, I have had my lease threatened.
I was given a flatbed with a faulty wheel one afternoon at the 367 Southern Blvd location in the Bronx and went to the office to ask for a new one. I expressed that my mom is crippled and it could cause her to fall. ** refused to give me another cart as a courtesy. I finally called the district manager, **, and left a message. They will not offer us any of the senior accommodations and are very disrespectful. ** called me back and did not address the issues, including zero climate control, even though we are paying for it, which causes my parents to be there at a stuffy, fuming unit in 95 degree weather; Instead, ** said he wants us to VACATE ALL our units at every Public Storage location by August 31 2022, claiming lease violations we were never warned about and have not committed. ** even visited one of my units one day in June 2022, had no complaints, smiled and said to call him if we had any problems.
This is direct retaliation for my complaint and it is ageism. I have never heard of a location not having a problem with your tenancy for years and being subject to such vicious retaliation, because you finally found a voice to say something about the wrongs going on there. ** says how we manage to move so many belongings out is our concern, not his. I am a single woman with 2 elderly parents. Whoever heard of having to vacate all your units at the end of the month only two days after complaining that the site ISN'T SAFE OR CONSIDERATE TO THE ELDERLY?
I work full time, and I haven't done a thing wrong. I only requested a different flatbed for safety issues when there were plenty more outside. I have had ** regularly threaten my lease when I have asked for a minimal amount of courtesy. That is extortion. I don't know what I am going to do. I am in emotional turmoil, over a place that was just supposed to help me store my belongings. My whole family has units with Public Storage, including each of my elderly parents and all our units are in jeopardy at their whim. When I asked ** which units I had to vacate, asked him to give me the account numbers, unit numbers, specific reasons why they were doing this to me, ** said "You know which units you have," and refused to provide any further input, then hung up on me."

Manager: Kelly As always, Kelly, the manager of the S. 44th St. location in Kansas city, KS., shows us Rockstar property management, exemplary professionalism, and consistent courtesy. I've worked with Kelly for over 3+ yrs at this location, and while much of that time the country was navigating Covid, with skeleton staff, I personally communicated regularly with Kelly; and while she was the only staff-member on-site for easily 1.5+ yrs, I watched her manifest the same level of pinnacled 5 star professionalism, had she had 20 employees. She continues to embrace, uphold, and honor the kind of customer experience principles and leadership acumens, for every guest, acct. holder, or trainee, that many companies and their staff no longer require, nor coach as basic or genuine manners towards customers.
Today, I was pleased to meet Frankie, a new-hire in training for KC area, who was as delightful, professional, and personable as they come. She's lucky to have the chance to train with Kelly at the S. 44th KCK location, and we wish her the best of luck as she transitions to her downline property. Again, hats off to Kelly (and her team) at the PS South 44th St., KCK location - with a PS facility directly adjacent to where I live, she's the reason I still have the unit at the s. 44th St. location, over a mile away. I hope this review will help anyone think of considering to rent storage from this company. - They will increase the rent every other month. - bad customer service, in other words they don’t care at all. - They will auto charge you if like it or not. - Be careful about this. If you forget to pay for three days they will send you to collection automatically and it will show in your credit. - Now you can sign up for auto pay to avoid that but, good luck with the extra fees, and continues increase. -Don’t let the orange building make feel that you are working with a company. They are devils from inside and outside. - No trash.
You have to take everything by yourself. - Elevator is not working most of the time. - Front desk busy with her lunch most of the time. - People are living inside these rooms and a lot of people mentioned that you have to be careful about your stuff and never store anything has a value over $1000 - last but, not least consider alternative. You will pay a lot of money for stuff you might not need. Stay away from them and avoid regrets later.

I went back to the app to make sure all my information was updated correctly due to my move (from what I could see it was) and reprocessed my payment immediately. Again, I received an email saying your payment processed and went to my bank account to see it was charged correctly. Yet again the next day I received an email saying the payment did not go thru. I called the brick and mortar store I rent from to ask them to look at my account settings to tell me what I need to correct. Nothing seemed wrong from what they could see.
I called corporate then to get my bill paid immediately and figure out what is going on. I had everything correct from what they could tell me, and again, there was enough money in my account. All of this was done as quickly as possible. I receive a $45 rate increase letter with less than 30 days to adjust after my 6 month mark of using the storage facility. Call the facility in regards to the increase and spoke with the representative which was given a number to forward the influx in calls that she had been receiving to call which seemed to be a customer service agent that was scripted on the leasing contact on what to say per your rental contact. They have to give 31 days in regards to the rental increase which does not include mailing, so the notice was dated on the 31st of the month which left a 3 week notice for you to adjust your finances to give the greedy owner to increase the unit at a market value.
As I explained to the rep that stated that she tried to decrease my rental amount but the system would not let her. Which of course makes it seem as if she is actually trying to help you but being in customer service for years is a crappy why to remove the agent from a negative equation. I am very disappointed that Public Storage has taken this time in the world to also capitalized on their customers in an already failing economy. Little did we know that every six months they would increase the rate, by $30-$40 more per month on each unit! We had 3 smaller units side-by-side that were vandalized. We didn't have them insured. No locks were opened or broken. We asked PS about security, cameras, etc. They took NO responsibility even though it appeared to be an inside job or the perpetrators claimed over the top from a unit down the line or the unit right next to ours to gain access. PS wouldn't even check with the owners of the other units to see if there were any issues. PS suggested insurance for the future and moving to another area.
We filed a police report but there was literally nothing the police could do without the help of management, which was null and void. I was shocked to see that it is very hard to contact any leaders or supervisor staff for Public Storage. I have been dealing with a major issue with the lock panel on my storage unit since March 2022. First, this storage location decided to cut locks on the 20th day and not the 30th day after the due date. I paid my bill on March 25th. I went to the storage on March 27 and had to put on a new lock on the unit and check my unit. I put my new lock on and then could not get it off. I went to the storage office and they came to check it with me. We took pictures and video to document the incident. The lock was stuck because they damaged it when they cut the panel.
The manager then said that it would take a week to 2 weeks before it could be fixed and they would call me to let me know that it was fixed. I told her we were also planning to move out and asked if it could be fixed sooner because that would put us into another month. She said she would try. By April 29th, the lock was still not repaired and I have still not been able to get into my unit. I paid the bill anyway on April 29th. On May 2, I went to check the panel again, but the panel was still not fixed.
I went to the office and they proceeded to say that I needed to pay another bill because it was due on May 1st even though the panel was not fixed for the past month and I have not been able to get into the unit. They told me that I had to call the customer service number to complain and there was nothing they could do. I called several times without anyone answering. Today, I finally got through after being on hold for 40 minutes. The customer rep left a message for the property and sent a message to the District Manager. I have yet to hear back for the property. This is a mess and I am extremely disappointed with Public Storage. I will be moving once they fix the panel.

WATER DAMAGE TO MY STUFF. And it’s not about filling a claim because there is no monetary value to my daughter's stuffed animals from her childhood or the ruined pics. How can you put a price on that. But then it’s all my fault they have rats. It’s all my fault there are holes for water to get in. This company could care less about you storing your precious things in their units. Just don’t. Find another place to rent.

We are in the process of building and needed a rental unit that we could keep our possessions in for roughly two and a half years. After the first year (this February) received notice they are increasing our rate from 239 dollars to 314 dollars per month. The contract states they can change their rate AT ANY TIME! I had been assured by an executive of the company when he gave me the rate that it would NOT change. If the manager of the Public Storage unit thinks he can get more money out of someone else, he or she will significantly hike up the rate to get you out or to fleece you for more money! Now we are looking for another unit and dealing with the hassle and expense of moving our things for the remaining year and a half. I would NEVER recommend this company. They go back on their word, and they use bait and switch tactics. Say one thing, do another.

When I messaged them that I was moving, I got an email offering to put my bill down for 6 months to what I paid when I moved in, but when I click on it I got a message saying, "Aww it's too late for that offer but we're here to make your move easy." I was informed by a customer service rep that my rate would not go up in the first six months and after that "if" it went up it would only be a $10-$20 increase.
I have recently been informed by Public Storage that my rate is going up $60 a month. These people lied and cheated us. They charged us two extra weeks on the front end and three extra weeks on the back end of a contract for three storage units. This came to over $1000. Yes, the contract did say we had to pay the entire month. They pointed that out after we moved out and the account was closed. Before that they said we would receive a refund for the last three weeks. The whole thing was very complicated so this may not make sense. Bottom line, we were told and promised one thing and they did another.
The worst part is that I tried to talk with someone and got the slickest run around ever. When you call customer service they say you can speak with the executive team. They give you a number, you call and get a voicemail, and no one ever calls back. I even tried emailing and was told to call the original number. The whole experience was a nightmare. In this case, the robbers dug under the fence surrounding the facility and simply walked into the unsecured climate controlled building, which is not locked. There is no on-site security guard and there is no personnel on site whatever at night. The burglars just walked in, broke off the locks on the units and took what they wanted, undeterred. There are no security cameras, no guards, nothing.
There is a rude and obnoxious woman at this Houston, Texas, facility who couldn't possibly have been more offensive when I was notified. I paid 378 for my tent September 27th 2021. They took the whole entire tent and applied it to their fees. Called, emailed every manager, got no reply.
When I finally got someone and explained my situation they could have cared less. Did not even attempt to work with me or answer any questions. I asked where does all of these fees go to their reply, "The company?" It's an automated system so who gets the money the computer software? Now I have an additional 99 dollars fee and have to pay 378 plus 477 November 4th to prevent them from auctioning my storage. The staff and management will go through the storage if put on auction and take what they want leave the rest for auction. I have personally witnessed this account. I truly believe if they know you have value in your storage they want to make it impossible for you to pay so they can acquire your possessions.
Public storage lures you in at their 1 dollar special but little do you realize they can 2 times a year raise your rent at their discretion and the fees. Public storage got millions in Federal PPE grant money? Why? They were not affected. They were able to stay open and make money, and they obviously did not give it out to tenants that needed it. I gave read complaints in many different sites that all day the same thing public storage only cares about money and how they can acquire your possessions if need be. The federal government needs to create regulation for storage companies especially off this size, to limit the amount they can raise the rent and their fee charges. Also make sure you have an emergency contact or they will auction your belongings and claim they contacted you. Renter beware. This company is as greedy as it gets.

When they sold off my things, I noticed within a few days and contacted them about my personal belongings. When I spoke to the location, district manager and corporate office they all said that they sell things after 2 months and that they have to protect the buyers therefore cannot support connecting you with them to get your personal things (these low life predators that try to make a profit buying people's things in storage).

We have used Public Storage for years. They have consistently raised our rent, multiple times a year. So often in fact that we had to get a different unit inside the same property to stay on budget. Then more recently we needed a much bigger unit because we were moving, and since Public Storage was the only local place we had no choice but to get a different one - though at a different property. Way overpriced for a 10x20, but during the pandemic you have no choice and are lucky to even find a space.
While moving we had to find yet another storage unit and found one at an Extra Space location close to where we were moving to. When we completed our move and vacated Extra Space we asked if they could prorate our rent because we had just paid a week earlier and they were more than happy to, knowing that during this time they would quickly rent the unit again. When I asked Public Storage for the same consideration, since I had paid my rent ONE day before vacating, they denied the request. The managers at Public Storage locations are bound by corporate and cannot do anything to make a customer happy.
The corporate office will just ignore any requests you make of them. I have had the Orange Door insurance from the beginning, so I took inventory and photos in order to file a claim. The final damage tally came out to around $1,100. I filed the claim only to be told today that OD insurance only pays up to $250 for vermin damage.
I’m not going to sue them over $1,100, but what I am going to do is, move to a different facility this weekend. They’ll lose several thousand dollars of revenue from me over that. Secondly, starting with this post, I’m going let everyone know how OD and PS treat their customers. I’ll post on social media and other review sites. Also, our neighborhood participates in the Next Door web platform which covers several thousand households in our region of the city and is excellent for public service announcements. I’m going to post this in the open forum every so often to warn my neighbors. Even if those posts keep two or three people away from PS, that will mean that much more lost revenue for OD & PS. You can never talk to anyone, about anything because they NEVER CALL YOU BACK. SO if you have a problem with your Storage or some simple questions, don't expect a phone call back. Even if you leave your Name, Phone Number and the reason you are calling. It is not worth it paying for increase payment and you gain nothing from it. Your Storage don't get any BIGGER, the value of your insurance say the same (2000) Even if you have 5,000 dollars of valuable in their Storage. It's not worth it. I tried talking to the manager, recieved excuses for not being present to unlock the door accessing my storage (during normal business hours), and lecture on tone... which I did have because after years of being locked out and having my stuff thrown, you bet I'm upset. That call resolved nothing but a "if you don't like it then you can go ahead and vacate". When I tried to contact the corporate office, nothing. They don't answer their support line. After 3 email attempts I finally got an answer, very unprofessional response, but beyond that, still not addressing my concerns. I will be vacating and found a better company to store with.

In 2015, in a bind, I signed a contract with Public Storage with the $1 down for the first month. Although I was not impressed with no climate controlled (gets hot/has pests) and the addition of paying insurance monthly for the unit. To be fair, up to this point my items were safe. Had autopay, no issues and today I’m paying, for the exact same unit, $265 per month!? I think prices even increased during the pandemic. Need larger space for Nana's stuff; decided to move to climate controlled facility on the 13th and Public Storage will not prorate the remainder of the month. Reverts back to that contract! They need regulation! It’s preposterous!! Where’s the customer service? I’d give them the TIP of the 1st STAR if I could.

I rented from a wonderful storage facility (controlled climate) over a year ago. The facility was run by a lovely couple who lived on site and kept the entire storage bldg in immaculate condition. They were wonderful! That is until three months ago when Public Storage bought them out. Since that time the place has become dirty, the elevators have stopped working (I'm on the 3rd floor) and customer service is all lip service. And here it is, three months later, no working elevator, doors wide open so you wonder about the climate controlled conditions and they decide to raise rents! (Public Storage in Arnold, MD). No kidding..this is pathetic and I have NO idea how I'm going to get my stored items moved off of the 3rd floor with no working elevator (not working for the past 3 weeks). So the maintenance goes downhill immediately and they raise rents.
Do reconsider renting from Public Storage because this is an example of how you and your belongings will be treated. You are nothing more than a walking pocketbook that they have their hands in and all the while the facility goes downhill and fast. Licensing agencies need to take a closer look. I'm stuck with no working elevator....

Without notification, there was an illegal penetration into my locker on the 3rd of March.
On the 4th of March, I made the cash payment. I have brought Public Storage to court as a witness/second defendant April 20, 2021 **. Since I have made payments 2-3 months ahead. I have not entered the premises since I moved in. I have not contacted Public Storage. My account is paid until August 1st. I have nowhere to put my belongings. I arrived later than I wanted but within enough time. But there were zero carts, I had to carry things out by hand one by one. That took time. Then the elevators shut down on me at 9pm and still had a couple loads (or about 1/3 a cart if they had one). Hit the emergency call button on the elevator, they for me out, but my storage things were in the hall the floor above and everything open and lock on the floor. I had just moved the contents of my two bedroom penthouse there into their largest unit. Elevator lady did not have a means to contact public storage and I spent 40 mins trying to find an emergency number. A facility in an industrial park where you have valuables about you and no emergency contact info. The system does not warn you you're about to get locked out (or in), it just happens.
Would not not been a problem had they had carts for people rather than expecting people to hand carry. My experience was in Alexandria Va, miles from the capital of the free world. All I needed was someone to allow the elevator to go up one level so I could secure my things. But safety of property, of peace of mind, of life itself apparently is not a concern with the owners of Public storage. Patrick

I have two units and was paying them on time and in the full amount for quite some time - maybe about a year. I ran into some problems and I am paying the storage fees each month though now it is late. I am now having to use my social security to make the payment and I don't get that deposit until the second Wednesday of the month. Since it's due on the 1st, and even with a short grace period, I'm always late. Their late fees are very high ($44.00 on one, $54.00 on another one). I can't pay next month's rent from this month's SS as I can't get that far ahead.
Public Storage will not change the due date so that it would be after the latest date of the month that I would receive a deposit (which would be the 14th). So every month I'm getting hit with late fees which I can't pay. They did waive this month's late fee on both which was certainly appreciated. When you email the customer service contact listed on their site, they have never answered any question or helped in any way. The reply I get is that I need to call the Customer Service Department. Have no idea who customer service is at the email address for them on the website, but it's not customer service. When I contacted the "Customer Service Department" they basically said "Oh Well - can't help you", brushed me off and ended the phone call.
The woman actually on site at the Public Storage facility is always very nice - both of them are - whenever I talk to them. They have no authority to help, but at least they don't brush me off like corporate does. In the meantime, my locks have been removed from my units and I can not get into them - either to add something or remove something - until the count is 100% paid up to date. I don't know when that is going to be.

I rented four Public Storage units six months ago. I used the autopay for all four units. All was well until this month. Public Storage decided to change a security setting on their website (and didn't bother to let customers know until way too late). All of a sudden, my autopay was cancelled and I was told my bank was declining my payments. This was not the case. I literally spent six hours on four calls to "customer service." Every single time I was told it was "fixed" and my payments would be correctly debited. Every single time it was not "fixed." Finally, I went to the Public Storage location and was told, again, that it was "fixed." I was also charged $60 in "late fees" even though I was not the reason for the late payment.
The very next day, I get a text from Public Storage saying my payments were due and I was going to be charged late fees because of it. My autopay was cancelled for the third time. Another 90-minute call later, I'm told it's "fixed" again. I sincerely doubt it. All I know is that I've lost $60 and I keep getting increasingly rude calls/texts/emails saying I'm not paying my bill. I can't get my items out of these units fast enough. I have been a renter of two different public storage units and have faced the same, dishonest behavior where they continue to raise the rent for absolutely no reason. There is no way that "Corporate" has a clockwork rent increase (to more than $30 a month) to cover "operating costs", it's entirely too calculated for that. So, during the middle of a GLOBAL pandemic, this organization continues to choose to bilk money out of its customers and have its customer service people respond with, "well, you can come get your stuff if you don't want to pay the increase." This is absolutely shameful behavior. SHAMEFUL. I will warn everyone against storing their belongings with Public Storage.

Their negligence ruined & contaminated all of my contents with mold. A settlement was supposed to occur but 14 calls/texts/emails have gone unanswered. My storage unit and all around it had major water damage and a TON of visible mold all over the ceiling. I have photos and videos of proof. The insurance I had to get to rent the unit already agreed with my claim and paid out the maximum amount of 3000$ to me. But my losses after having to throw tons of stuff away and have the reset professionally decontaminated cost me 12,292.36$.
So I began talking to Dana **, the supervisor asking for reimbursement. He referred me to Morgan **, their lawyer. She told me on 11/16/20 that she would have a settlement amount for me no later than friday 11/20/20. The last time I heard from her was on 11/24/20 when she sent the copy of my contract I had asked for. I emailed her again on 12/3, 12/8, and 12/15 and she never responded. I have proof of this as well, screenshots. So I reached back out to Dana by phone on 12/23/20 and he didn't respond so I reached out again on 12/29/20 and he text me saying he wrote to Morgan the week before when I called and she hadnt gotten back to him. So I text him back that day 12/29 again on 1/4/21, 1/12/21, and 1/13/21 and called him on 1/14/21, 1/15/21 and 1/21/21 and he never returned ANY of my calls or texts, 8 in total went unanswered. I have proof of this as well.
I called Morgan ** once more on 1/21/21 and never got a response. So I called customer service and asked for their boss who I was told was the Regional Manager Jeffrey **, I called him on 1/21/21 and 1/26/21 and he NEVER called me back either (I also have proof of this) and I told him everything in the voicemail and how 4 messages to Morgan and 8 messages to Dana were ignored by them. The fact that their negligence RUINED my stuff and cost me 12,292$ in the times of Covid and they promised to reach a settlement agreement with me and then just completely ignored me is absurd and abhorrent behavior from a large chain business like them. How can you treat your customers this way?
I manage some very serious chronic health issues and CIRS and MCAS as well as being tested and showing I have variants of the HLA gene which makes me WAY more susceptible to mold illness so this has been quite a challenge for me as I spent the money I needed for medical treatment to replace and decontaminate my items with the understanding that they were going to come to a settlement agreement. Now I cant pay for the treatments I need. This is abhorrent behavior from a Supervisor, a Regional Manager and a Lawyer, they should know better than to treat their customers like this.
I will be posting this same complaint on EVERY website where I can leave a negative review on Public Storage, I have already contacted my local news stations and newspapers and their investigators and given them this story and they have stated it sounds like its worthy of them looking into and possibly doing a story on, and I have a lawyer on standby. So if they do right by me I'll tell the news stations not to run the story and I will delete the negative reviews. I have all the screen shots of my messages going unanswered, all my items I threw away, other receipts, itemized lists of everything I threw away and its cost, etc.

I understand increases will happen due to legit expenses, but a 20%+ increase in monthly rent is excessive and I guarantee, the rent will go up again in another few months. I called on 11/30/20 to upgrade from my 5x5 unit to a 10x10. Shana tells me that it’s not possible to upgrade, she would have to “vacate” my current unit then I would have to make a new reservation for a 10x10 unit - the problem with that (other than it not making sense) was that I hadn’t moved in yet so it couldn't be done until I moved in…and I had to come in to the office to do it. I mentioned I didn’t mind changing my move in date from 12/3 to 12/1 and coming in but I wanted to make sure I didn’t lose the 10x10 unit…She couldn’t hold it for me (of course) but at least she offered to speak with her Regional Manager (didn’t get the name).
Shana calls me back later that morning to say that her Regional Manager confirmed that I need to “vacate” my current unit but not to worry I would get a full refund. I then asked her about the 10x10 unit to which she gave me the price of $162, though online it was $171. Shana was not able to explain the price difference and said she couldn’t reserve it for me…I again had to come in. I reserved the unit online because it was obvious I was about to lose both units (this was used against me later on). As Shana finish the “vacate” process she realizes that she didn’t have the option to refund the $24.00 Admin Fee. She again says she will call her Regional Manager.
I later receive a call from Patrice who introduces herself and pauses as if I should have expected a call from her. She then tells me that the $24.00 Admin Fee is non-refundable and what I should have done is upgrade my unit not “vacate” and book a new one online…(screams on the inside!) I keep my cool and waste my time explaining what actually happened earlier that morning. I am again promised a call back because the Regional Manager has to be consulted…again. The next call is to tell me that I will in fact get a full refund. When I bring up the price difference, I’m told that because I booked online they couldn’t offer the lower rate of $162…what a joke! Did I mention how much this interrupted my work day?
I call again the following day after waiting all day for the return call that was promised. Patrice had no update for me just the “promise” that I would receive my refund, and before hanging up she informed me that I would need to ask for Sue if I called later in the week. Great, a third person to do absolutely nothing! Sue leaves me a message the following day (Wed 12/2) saying that the $24 Admin Fee was credited back. I waiting until it showed up on my bank account. It never did. I called again on Sat 12/5 and left a message for Sue because I had yet to receive a refund for the first unit and they had already charged me over $200 for the second one. Sue leaves me a message later in the day to say that the credit had been issued - I’m surprised she didn’t defer to her Regional Manager.
When I showed up on Thursday 12/3 I had to drive around aimlessly looking for my unit, thinking that I had the wrong address because again their untrained employees that cannot do anything without consulting the Regional Manager, failed to tell me that they have two facilities, each located on opposite sides of the street (not easily seen from the street unless you know what you’re looking for especially at night). I finally walk in to the unit only to find the lock inside the dirty unit with no packaging…their lock return policy says it has to be in the original packaging in order for a refund to be issued…this is yet another way they stole my money. Oh! and the place reeked of naphthalene! I hope someone tells them that does little to get rid of rodents and termites...
As of today, Monday 12/14, I have yet to receive a refund for the $24 Admin Fee. I noticed, however, that next month’s invoice was reduced by $24…so I am being forced to pay for a second month if I want to be credited for their mistake and inability to train their employees. Needless to say, zero compensation has been offered for this awful experience…At this point I just hope to eventually get the money they stole from me. Do not rent here. The units are dirty, the staff is untrained, and you pay for their mistakes - even if I eventually get my money back, it’s simply not worth the hassle.

Them selling her most precious things, her only personal sentimental things (baby pictures, dead grandmother's earrings) that are only valued by her and the family is the most piercing thing to her heart. I just cannot wrap my head around such heartless people doing this to anyone, especially during such hard times (Covid lockdown). There's a special place for people like this and we all know where that is. They only live for this world, greedy and not caring who they crush in the process. But, one day they will answer to the most high for their horrible deeds.
Original Review: BEWARE: Heartless company during hard Covid times when people are struggling. If I could give a negative infinity rating on this website, I would, because that is even too good for them! They sold all of my family members' things on 11/24/20 and she struggled and just made a payment on 11/04/20, and Public Storage didn't have the decency to notify her in time, so personal things like photos, financial information could be retrieved. She has been with Public Storage for up to two years, and this is how they treated her in hard times. No loyalty whatsoever! Yes, material stuff can be replaced, but not family photos, mementos and priceless heirlooms (her dead grandmothers' $10 earrings, they hold sentimental value), they sold them too! Vultures!
Personal, financial, medical and previous client tax/financial information she was trying to protect that was stored there is now in the hands of who knows who, because they don't even tell you who they sold her items to. So that's a breach! It sounds illegal selling personal info like that anyways, and most people would get locked up for that. What kind of person(s) Sell and Buy a poor struggling single mother and her children's things anyways? Do you take pride and joy in that? Sickening! A Scrooge of all scrooges, that's who (Hedgcoxe, Plano location main culprit in this matter, they are the greedy ones who sold her stuff). You sold the children's things too. The children have nothing now, and I mean NOTHING, all of their childhood things (baby clothes, toys. etc..) are gone.
One of her children is a budding artist, and you sold his artwork without his permission, that's illegal too! You sold the children's innocence to a stranger too!. What kind of evil are you? What are they (Buyers) going to do with innocent children's pictures anyways? Public Storage doesn't care and I bet they didn't even ask them either. I cringe at the thought of these children's pictures ending up on the dark web or something. I vomit when I think and read of how you've been doing this type of business practice over and over again for years and getting away with it. Where is the justice system to protect these poor people? Just look at the reviews here on this website, it doesn't lie, just sickening, Public Storage and their mysterious heartless buyers crushing life after life. Just gutter people! You should NOT be in business.
If any of her identifying personal, financial, client, children or medical information gets on the black market, or dark web, you and your buyer will be held accountable for theft and privacy health information violations to the highest degree. She better not start seeing scam calls and upticks of scam mail or any indication her rights have been violated, because we will know who got the ball rolling.
People listen up, go to Uhaul or anyone else for that matter, stay far away from Public Storage. Don't get drawn in by that $1 deal either, it's how they bait you in. Then their fees go up and up, piling on top of each other quickly so you can't make full payments and get behind on payments, then there's late and all kind of crazy fees you can't handle and when that happens, they sell your stuff. These folks here have no heart! Public Storage and Mysterious Buyer whoever you are, GIVE her, her things back, you know who she is. You are in the wrong and I will keep bringing attention to this matter on all social platforms until this is resolved and so others don't have to go through this mess. How do you sleep at night? There were mice dropping and pee all over the storage floor and also on so much of my belonging. This caused so much damage. I could also see that there had been water leaking into the unit as well.
When I went to the desk to report this, I spoke with a Melissa who informed me that they were aware of an influx of mice in the storage areas because they had to put down more traps in the storage areas. However, for some reason the Property Manager failed to inform me or any other renters about this issue. She also indicated that someone else had reported seeing a dead mouse in their storage when they went to move out of the unit.
My complaint is that the Property Manager and the company had an obligation to inform people about this influx of mice. If they were putting down extra traps due to this, they should have contacted me. I paid roughly $220 a month for a climate controlled storage unit and no one felt it was necessary to let their customers know about the mice issue. I tried calling the District Manager (John **) and left him several messages and of course he has not returned any of my calls. Stay away from this company. Spend your money with a storage company that values their customers.

The battles and challenges of COVID-19 have been challenging and devastating. I am current helping a family member who is battling the Virus and this doesn't only affect one member but the entire family. The majority of my bill was paid the month before which left me with a $20.00 balance that I forgot to pay by the 5th of the month. When I remember that this amount was due, I was assessed a fee of $29.00! I called and explained the circumstances which I received a call back from the assistant manager who advised me that my account wasn't eligible to have the fee waived, which is higher that the amount that is due!

I started out my monthly rental @ $49. It sounded great in the beginning as I was ok with that amount. Then, it started to increase more and more. By the end, I was paying $84 a month, a 71% increase, in just 14 months! Then, when I emptied and canceled my unit one week into the month, they refused to refund me any money!! Never again.

Anyone who has been denied use of the restroom at Public Storage at 385 Gerard Avenue, Bronx, N.Y. 10451 should kindly take photographs of the signs on the public restroom doors and obtain photos of who they are "selectively" permitting to use their restrooms. They have had signs up using Covid as an excuse for 6 months and the discrimination here is atrocious. I asked who the manager's name is and they told me "**" but would not provide a last name or show even a tiny shred of humanity. This is despite the fact that my 70 year old mother with a bladder condition was with me and I literally begged them. My father and I were
