The moving coordinator and moving crew of American Van Lines that helped us were good and professional. They couldn’t bring the things in my driveway from the beginning because the road is winding and there's a hill. And they basically said if we wanted to get it here we got to pay for that. What they have to do was rent a truck and park at some parking lot somewhere nearby our house. And we were going to have to transfer back and forth loading up things.
I understand why but they should have told me that up front. So I was very pleased with all of their work but I was not pleased with the fee. They worked very hard because we were not prepared Initially they wanted $5,000 but talking with them they brought it down about $2,000. He said, “The most we could come down would be $3,500.” I said, “What am I supposed to do?” We have to struggle to come up with the money. But other than that we were really happy with everything else. It was just a horrible event if you're moving from one place to another and the last minute to find out that they want $5,000.

I'm in the military and when I asked around people directed me American Van Lines. The moving coordinator was very helpful, very direct and straightforward. Most of the items came from Pennsylvania to California. The primary means of communication was face to face on day one. And then if I had any issues or questions I called and that happened once. It was a little hard getting in and out of the area that I was at but I offered to help the moving crew just because from the truck to my house the moving crew had to basically go a city block with every single item. I'm overall happy with the service.

My realtor recommended American Van Lines. I've had a couple of moves and the most recent one from Florida went well. Everything went fine with the rep who assisted me. He was very personable, confident, and reassuring. During the move, the crew was good and conscientious, and they seemed to care. I paid $6,500 which is a lot of money and I went with American Van Lines even though their cost was higher, but the move turned out to be fine. They might be too expensive, but they were good.

The team was very organized and did a good job with the packing and our move. Ester in Customer Service was frequently contacting us to make sure we were aware of scheduling and timing for everything and she followed up on each phase of our move to make sure we were taken care of. Thanks American Van Lines! And thanks Ester!

American Van Lines was on a website recommending the best moving van companies. They were quite upfront with everything, very businesslike and no hidden fees. They sent me an inventory and I filled it out. I had done a lot of packing beforehand so it was pretty straightforward. During the move, the crew was very professional. They moved so fast that we had to try to catch up to get to the destination. I'd recommend American Van Lines.

My moving day went very well from beginning to end. Customer service and Brian reassured me I would have the size truck I requested and they did. The 4 gentlemen were very professional and did a terrific job. I would definitely recommend American Van Lines as my experience was a good one. Thank you.

Overall, I would recommend American Van Lines. When getting my initial quote, the representative was helpful and gave me all the information I needed. Then someone followed up a couple weeks later. The movers were excellent--professional, timely, and very nice. The only negative thing I would say is that I did not get a phone call to let me know of the date and time of the pickup--I had to call them myself to get that information. The movers dropped everything off 3 days later for a 500 mile move, which I thought was impressive! It was also a little tricky getting a time frame from American Van Lines of when the drop off would be--they just gave us the date and then later in the afternoon, we were finally given a drop-off time. (The movers had run into some bad snowstorms on the way, so it was understandable.)

We used American Van Lines back in the '80s to move and we used them again recently. They called, made appointments and told me when to expect everybody to show up. The moving crew did their business. I just sat around and waited for them to load the truck.

Delivery 222 Inman Lane NE - We checked in many times about the need to pack one day and load the next. The dispatcher told us not necessary. The night before the move they call to say they needed to move the pack and load (airline tickets were bought, animals booked on flights etc). After much complaining they finally packed and loaded same day. Driver was very pleasant. The packers, 3 brothers in Denver were very nice but did a terrible job in the pack and load.
1880's mahogany table with the original chairs had one arm split open. Living room wing back chair (very sturdy) they split one leg in half. An expensive mahogany round table with leather embossed top (very sturdy), they broke two legs off of it. No apology. Was just told to fill out a form. So now I'll get a furniture restorer to price this out but any replacement parts (legs, arms) of antiques erodes the value of the pieces. With moving, being pleasant is a nice to have, being professional with precious items is mandatory. I do not recommend them.
Dear Sandy and Mark,
Please accept our apology for the damage to your three items. If you look at our email to you dated March 21st, we did apologize for the damage that occurred and included instructions of how to fill out our claim form. Even though we pad wrapped and protected all of your items inside the house before we even moved them, damage still occurred. We are waiting for your claim form to be filled out so we can handle your claim quickly.
We understand you are upset about the damage that occurred to two chairs and a table. We would like to include some positive aspects of your move too. I appreciate your kind words about the driver and movers being very kind. I also want to add that we picked you up on time in CO and delivered you on time in GA 10 days later. Your final bill was about $600 less than our estimate.
We will do our best to handle your claim to your complete satisfaction and hopefully change your perception of us to something positive.

We had a reasonably good experience with American Van Lines. I had a good driver but there were a couple of big dents on my French door refrigerator. And also they did some damage to the water or ice dispenser. And when I called the adjuster, she, in a very unsympathetic way, told me that I signed up for the lower level of insurance and even though each of those was going to cost me about $400 each I was only covered for something like $160. It wasn't what she told me but the way she told me so I wasn't happy with her. It was really curt and very short. And at that time when everything has already happened there was no need for her to be curt and short. She just needed to explain the rules and remind me of what I signed.
But I appreciated the ones that came out of Springfield, Missouri to load us and the ones that came out of Phoenix to unload us. The driver was very prompt and easy to work with. And the guy who handled my phone when I first called was very easy to talk and work with. So aside from having what I considered an unhappy experience when it comes to filing a claim I had the same experience that I've read when I read evaluations of American and other movers, that their worse experience is usually with the adjuster.
I didn't know that it was going to be such a small amount of money because when I talked to the guy who took my call initially, we were moving with $30,000 Baby Grand Piano. And I talked to him about the coverage and so on because I said, "What if there's an accident and it's damaged or even worse your truck burns, then I really have the assurance that I could probably insure it for as much money as I want to." And I didn't. At that time, we were loading up in a snowstorm and I was just anxious in getting out of the snow that was coming down in Central Missouri.
I found out that most of the guys who took the phone calls were easy to talk to and supportive, especially the guy who took my first call. And he was located in Florida. The guys who came in at both ends were very pleasant and worked hard. I was impressed with them and pleased with them. Plus the estimated cost of the move stayed steady throughout the entire thing. I didn't have the experience that I know some people have with their moves, where when the move is all over, they add on $1000 here and $1000 there. I was pleased with that, for it was done in a very business-like and honorable manner.

I asked for the movers to come on Saturday the 24th. I was told they might arrive on the 25th, to which I stressed that I would be flying out on the 25th and wouldn't be available that day. When I called on the 23rd to update my inventory, I was told that I was scheduled on the 25th. Why I had to call to find this out is outrageous. I had to sign a POA over to my landlord because, as I had stressed before, I wasn't going to be around on the 25th. My plea seemed to have fallen on deaf ears.
The movers showed up an hour or so late and were not given any of my landlord's info. They were calling me when I was in flight. Once I complained to the office, the movers then claimed that they couldn't park their 16 wheeler on my street and they tried to have my landlord pay for a U-Haul to ship my items to wherever they thought they would park their giant truck in Hollywood, CA. I was told by the office that if they couldn't park their truck, they couldn't do the move, which made me furious. I was also told I had to pay an extra shuttle fee for the movers to get a smaller truck, which is total **. Whoever thinks that someone can simply pull up in a 16 wheeler anywhere in Los Angeles is an idiot. I'm sorry. What ended up happening is that they did the move the next morning on the 26th, frustrating both me and my landlord (I was told by the mover that they got a parking ticket for parking in a permit zone overnight, like it should have been my concern).
Upon arriving in Charlotte, they were 5 hours late. It took them 45 minutes to get everything off their truck and start loading into my new place. They left everything outside, sitting in the wet grass, in the pouring rain, including 25 pieces of priceless artwork that I was told would be boxed up in cardboard by the movers (none of it was). Fortunately for me, I wrapped all of the art in bubblewrap, which served as some protection from the rain. It took the movers over an hour to set up the bed and they didn't end up finishing the job until 11:45pm. Not sure what good any of this is going to do at this point, but rest assured the next time I do a big move to a different state, I will be using a different moving company.
Dear Mr Victor,
I am sorry for the frustrations we caused you on your move. Please accept our apology for the issues that were our fault.
I would like to clarify some of your frustrations weren't our fault. Please let us explain.
Your move was booked with the pick up dates of February 24 and 25th moving from CA to NC. Since your pickup date included the 25th, we believe your choice to fly out on the same day added to your stress. In addition, during your estimate call with our office, you were asked if an 18 wheeler could make your pick and you said yes. Our estimate also says if an 18 wheeler can not make the pickup, an additional fee may be added. While I understand these issues caused you and your landlord a lot of frustrations, we don't believe we should be faulted only.
We do apologize for being 5 hours late at delivery. Our driver should have more respectful of your time. Also, please accept our apology for allowing some of your items to get wet while we were delivering you. I am thankful nothing was damaged in the rain.
We would like to add some positive aspects of this move. You were picked up and delivered according to our agreement. Your final bill was less than your estimate and nothing was damaged during your move. Our point isn't to diminish your disappointment but rather to add a full picture of the whole move.
We acknowledge our shortfall on this move and will continue to work to get better. We are glad to report that we have come to a mutual satisfactory outcome with you.

I had used American Van Lines before so I used them again. My interactions with their reps were very good and I had a great time with the moving crew. However, I had a glass tabletop that was missing. All the while, I thought I left it at the apartment. So, I went back and looked twice. And then I thought it was left in the truck. I contacted them, talked to them three or four times and I sent about five emails, I even sent pictures. I have two glass-tops and I sent them a picture of one. I told them in the last email, which I sent yesterday, "If I need to go file a claim, that's fine. I'll go do it. But just tell me that. That's all I'm asking." They said, "Our claims department will get in touch with you," which is fine. If they're gonna do something, that's great too. But if not, at least I know. Other than that, everything was perfect.

I was relocating for a job promotion and the moving coordinator was very professional and reliable. He took me through the whole process of moving, and any questions I had, he always answered them. The mover was very friendly and professional too. He labeled all my furniture and organized it pretty well. If I told him to put it somewhere, he would put the furniture wherever I wanted to. He also put pads all over the stairs so the wooden floors wouldn’t get scratched. They did a great job when it came to taking care of not only my property, but the actual location itself. It was a great experience and if I have to move again in the future, I will be contacting American Van Lines for their services again.

The president of American Van Lines contacted me directly to work out a solution that was agreeable. We were fairly compensated for the issues, problems, and damages that occurred during the move. We received a personal apology from the president as well for all of the problems. Everything has been resolved to our satisfaction

We had the misfortune of making the mistake of using this moving company almost a year ago and have had nothing but problems from the beginning of the move until now. From lies about calling to obtain our time frame and date for the move to constantly being told that we could call "The next day" to obtain the date and time of the move only to be lied to that it's too soon to call for any time/date estimate. After 8 attempts to obtain a scheduled date and time I was still not given the information as I was told. This created significant issues with my new employer. I had to travel back to the state of my previous residence, Tennessee, and wait to receive an estimate when I was repeatedly told by American Van Lines representatives that this would not be the case.
American Van Lines finally gave me an estimate a day before the move of between 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. The movers did not arrive until 7:00 P.M. at night and did not finish packing up until well after 1:00 A.M. To say the movers were clumsy is a serious understatement. They couldn't back up the truck properly and gouged our concrete driveway. In addition they damaged the walls in our master bedroom that I had to repair as we were selling our home. I could not leave the walls damaged.
After this we were told that we would need to be at the new condo we rented in Pennsylvania to let the movers in at a time we could not possibly arrive it due to the moving companies own delays. Yet somehow this was our fault and we would have to pay for storage of our items until we arrived to let the movers in. After arguing with a representative about how this was absolute nonsense they finally came to their senses and realized that the fault was their own.
We immediately turned around and drove from Tennessee to Pennsylvania overnight. A 12 hour trip. The clumsy movers showed up and caused damage to our furniture and the walls of the condo that we're renting. They damaged just about everything they took off of their truck. From the work desk we have, which they tore a large chunk out of at the top, a nice new kings sized bed frame where they destroyed the wood backing to the headboard, and a dining room table that they chipped up in just about every location they can get their hands on.
We filed a claim over these damages based on their own insurance coverage amounts which is the weight of the item times 60 cents. The total of the claim amount came to $1197.48. What they offered us in return was $600.00. Half the amount of the claim. After arguing with them over this they offer a total of $818.00. Still less than the $1197.48 claim we submitted. Their argument is that they base the weight of each item in the claim on estimated "military weights" and we were using the estimated weights that they supplied to us. So they substitute one guesstimate for another. They refuse to work with us any further to pay us the full amount for all damages despite the horrible experience we've had with them.
The bottom line is that this was an absolutely HORRIBLE experience from the beginning. 4 months to complete claims processing with an excuse of "That's the industry standard" which translates into "We're no better than anyone else". Save yourself the trouble and headaches. Find a better moving company and avoid American Van Lines. This has been the worst experience I've ever had with any company I've done business with. Attached are a few pictures of the damage that the movers caused. Please look at them and see what you can expect when hiring American Van Lines.

On my move recently to Atlanta I experienced terrible customer service from my moving coordinator Marisol **. Part of the problem may be American's policy for giving large windows of time with only 24 hours notice of pick up and delivery. This made it very difficult for me to work and move. Marisol was not the least bit empathetic or helpful throughout the whole process. Just one example of this: I was told my belongings would be delivered on Friday March 16. She said she would call me on the 15th to confirm time. She never called and my belongings were not delivered until the 17th.
On the other hand, the gentlemen who came to pack up my belongings and deliver them (Ron and Mike plus a couple others) were extremely kind and professional. All my belongings were delivered intact and they were very helpful throughout the whole process. Lastly, I would never use American Van Lines again. I would never recommend them to anyone. And I will certainly be leaving reviews on appropriate social outlets so that people will know what to expect if they were to contract a move with American.
Please accept our apology for the poor customer service you received from Marisol. We appreciate the kind words you shared about our movers Ron and Mike and we are glad everything was delivered without any damage. We would also like to note that we picked you up on time and delivered you just 5 days later from PA to GA. Please consider that your final price was less than our estimate. While we understand your disappointment with our moving coordinator, our hope is you may still remember the positive aspects of your move and consider us again on your next move. We wish you the best.

My spouse was moving for a job, and my moving coordinator from American Van Lines was absolutely wonderful and a very nice lady. She was really friendly, very knowledgeable and she was always there if I had a question. It didn’t ever seem like she was frustrated because I usually ask a lot of questions. If she didn’t know something, she could find it and then she would contact me back.
The American Van Lines crew that came out was fine. The move took about 32 hours from the time that they showed up and loaded it until they unloaded in the afternoon. There were a few issues on the tail end of it all but you can't expect everything to come back looking like it did. There were a couple of things broken, and nothing was ever mentioned about it. It would have been nice if they brought it to my attention. Other than that, they were very pleasant to deal with when it came to walking around and showing what needed to be done. I didn’t have to sit there and babysit them. They were well-experienced and polite.

We sold our house in Kentucky and bought a house in Florida. We used American Van Lines when we moved and our coordinator was good. But we did not get a phone call from her 24 hours prior to the movers coming here. She called us on a Thursday and said it was probably going to be Saturday that the furniture would be delivered, but she will call me back on Friday with a time. I waited on Friday to hear from her, but there was no call. So, I thought, "Okay. Well, maybe she forgot. We'll wait around Saturday. Furniture will be delivered Saturday." At about, 4 o'clock, there was no furniture and no call, so I called them. The guy who answered the phone said it would be Monday or Tuesday, and they were not sure yet but somebody would contact us back from there. On Monday, we stayed around all day. And didn't hear anything the rest of the day.
We went to eat lunch at Naples, which is about 35 miles from the house. Once in there eating lunch then I got a phone call from the mover that they were at our house. We didn’t get to complete lunch. We hopped up. I'm doing 90 on Highway 75 to get back here. And I was thankful that he understood and waited. But my neighbor had a key to the house, so she opened the house and let him in. The movers were fantastic. The only damage that was done was that the four wheels on the bottom plastic of the TV cabinet all broke off. And everything smelled like a musty moving van. But everything else was great.

I was very happy with American Van Lines' service. My whole move went really well. They were having a bit of an issue with their computer when I was giving them the data. And then, they called me back twice about billing and they kept re-asking me about stuff. It was just me re-clarifying what was included in the move. But they were there early, which wasn’t a problem for me. It could have been to some people I imagine but it wasn’t for me. That kind of worked to my advantage. The billing was less than what they originally quoted by a thousand, and that was good. The movers were faster than I expected, too. They packaged everything really good and nothing was hurt. I saw one minor thing that was damaged but it was just a caster wheel on a file cabinet. The file cabinet was old.
The main truck driver, Benjamin, was excellent. He was very polite, very helpful, and very quick. The workers were really good. There was three of them. The driver and the two helpers were really professional. I'm kind of really a picky queen person about how they damage stuff, and they were really good. I bought a house in Colorado and I was moving things that I owned. I googled American Van Lines and because they take credit cards, I decided to use them. From what I'm reading, companies that take credit cards and not only just cash are more believable than other companies, and I got burned by that once before. They also usually own their trucks.
Setting up the move with the coordinator went a little rougher and longer because I was moving a Jacuzzi and American Van Lines was inexperienced in moving that. I had to keep calling them every other day because they were not calling me back as they were still trying to figure things out on their end. They also had to get a third party person to help load and unload the Jacuzzi. It was like pulling teeth to get the ball rolling. But they weren’t the only moving company that I called that it was pulling teeth. All the companies that I went with were also having troubles with how to move a 900-pound Jacuzzi.
Their moving crew was professional too, but they were a little light on people because I ended up helping them. Also, they didn’t have the correct tools for the job and they made the move a lot more difficult than it should have been. If the people from American Van Lines care about their company, they should provide their movers better equipment. They were using two plywood boxes and were just rolling the spa on a dolly on one box, and then moving the other box in front of it. They kept doing that, and it was wet and snowy so the boxes deteriorated. It took them almost an hour and a half just to move a few feet. I gave them four pieces of plywood so they could move it pretty far. I also gave them bricks to help them get everything in place. But we got it done. American Van Lines was very good and the Jacuzzi was just a really tough thing to move. I moved only once before and the other company I used was not good at all. This was relatively painless.

I had a company move me a couple other times before and they didn't wrap things up as good. Plus the movers from AVL were really quick. They showed up, I got them started and I left. I went on a site where there was an advertisement on three men or truck and two men for $45 which I can't remember what they called. But next thing I knew, I was dealing with a different situation. It was American Van Lines with that other name on the truck and it ended up being far more with it right at a $1,000. If I had realized the expense was going to run up anywhere near that, I could have gotten somebody else with a clear contract from the very beginning. Also, it sounded like something where you were going to do a partial move. I ended up paying a fee that would have gotten us a total move where a lot of people come in and prepare and move everything. But instead, we only got not all of the bigger items moved.
They need to be upfront and honest about what they're doing and it needs to be clear. The people who were involved with that need to be people who attempt to be pleasing in their service from the very beginning as opposed to telling you who's in charge. I started off with one thing and I ended up with something entirely different. And I didn't really realize how different it was going to be until the morning when they showed up. I felt like that as I was trying to explain to them what my needs were and they told me that they were going to make that decision on how things needed to be loaded, what they would be willing to do and what they weren't, when they’re willing to do and about how they weren't in a hurry. It was not a good experience.

When I first Googled moving companies I was worried. Among 4 companies I chose American Van Lines. Alan the moving estimator was polite, professional and knew his job well. The guy was there from the estimate to the day of moving. The moving crew was excellent, quick and knowledgeable of what they were doing - experienced. Theresa my moving coordinator played a vital role and was in touch from she took over even to the day after delivery. I was so satisfied that I had to courteously call both Alan and Theresa to thank them for an uneventful move, excellent, professional, reliable and affordable service. They are the BEST!

Every aspect of this move was positive for me. Marcus, my project contact was on the ball. Manny and the men he used were unbelievable! Very capable and did everything perfectly and quickly not to mention Manny was a real prince and accommodating. Price was exceptional and right on the nose as far as estimating and actual. There were no surprises at the end. I've recommended American Van Lines to everyone.

We sold our house and we were moving. We were getting quotes from the local moving company that had to drop three hours to get here which is a long drive and American Van Lines was cheaper. The first person I talked to was William when I schedule it and then, I talked to the moving coordinator with whom I went over and listed every piece of furniture that I wanted them to move. And the crew was very pleasant and they were hard workers. They were there at the time they said they would be. They went straight to work and got the work done. I was impressed with how fast they got everything loaded up into the track. Then, as we were finishing the move, the coordinator called to make sure everything was okay that day. She was great. Everything went smooth and when we build another home, we would call them to come move everything that they just moved. I would recommend American Van Lines.

I started researching for long distance moving companies and saw American Van Lines. Their rep got us sold on it. I talked to him, he got the move scheduled, and he took the first deposit. We needed to deposit half of the quoted amount and then pay the rest once we've moved. Their moving coordinator sent me some paperwork to sign to make sure the date was set. She was the one that got in touch with dispatch and told me when the movers would be there, what day and what time frame. During the move, she would call and make sure that everything was still going good and making sure the truck driver was staying in touch with me and all that. So, the interactions were really good. They were on top of things.
The moving crew was great. The actual truck driver and the person that drives around with him were the ones that packed our stuff. They got there at 8 o'clock in the morning to start packing and didn’t get to leave until 10 o'clock at night. It might be better if American Van Lines would outsource some of that and hire someone to come and pack in advance, and then have the truck driver load it. It'd probably cut down on some of the time and some of the pressure on the truck driver and the assistant. Other than that, I have two kids and they were very good at working with them and my family, making sure everything was packed the way we wanted it and didn't pack everything that we weren't taking with us. They were really good to deal with.

I did catch it and they unpacked those items. The driver we had was the best! Not only did our stuff arrive in a timely manner, accounted for and unbroken, but he was the best packer of them all! I moved from a two-bedroom apartment to a three-bedroom house and the locations were within the same five miles. It was a very local move. I did a little homework online and found American Van Lines. I was trying to hit a certain price and when I gave them my estimate, their price came right in the ballpark. The coordinator I talked to on the phone was very helpful and got back to me on a weekend. I was not expecting to hear back from them since I made the online inquiry on a Friday. But she got back to me on a Saturday and we had things in hand before business on Monday morning.
Then I had a moving coordinator on site who was very professional and accommodating. Nothing fazed him at all. Every piece of furniture, every box, whether it was taped up or in shambles, he took it all in stride and worked to try to make it efficient for his crew. Everything came through just fine and there was no damage at all. In fact, things were more organized and efficient than I had assumed. I had one situation with a queen-sized bed, but those guys disassembled and reassembled it exactly where I wanted it. I had also had three of what I would consider awkward and difficult pieces of furniture and they handled all three of them very easily.
There were three guys who helped me with the actual move and I was very impressed with what they did and how they did it. They were very friendly and I gave them a tip on site. I even bought them lunch. They packed everything and were done about an hour quicker than was expected. I also requested 25 boxes but they didn't bring them or use any so I wasn't charged for that. They were there for about 90 minutes to unload and unpack, then they were on their way.
Initially, I was going to do the move by myself but we had a freeze all of a sudden the week before. I've moved twice in the last year and had my softball team come out and help me. But I wasn’t going to make them do it in the cold. So, I thought if I could do it for less than $700, I wouldn't do it myself. I priced it right and the cost ended up being about $550, since the guys got done early and they didn't use any boxes. So I was very happy. Everything was as promised, I came in on the budget, and I didn’t have to bug any of my pals.

I got a divorce and did a 10-mile move with American Van Lines almost a year ago. The movers did a fantastic job working within the three-hour window and they even went so far as to reassemble some bedroom furniture and cleaned up. They went beyond and above the call of duty because they were helpful and kind. They were also friendly and professional. The person who was in charge was fairly in charge of the rest of the crew and everyone did what they were supposed to do. Even the moving coordinator I dealt with prior to the move was fantastic. She explained everything over the phone and then I dropped off the paperwork and picked up boxes at the site. Everyone was just super. The move was seamless, perfect and hassle-free. They also honored a veteran’s discount, which I appreciated.

I also went to their office to pick up some boxes and that was a pleasant experience. The moving crew was okay too, but I didn’t like the way the driver handled our interactions. In almost the very first thing he said, he was begging for tips. People should not ask for tips though. You should earn them. If you get any, that’s fine but if you don’t, that ought to be fine too. He made an issue of it during the whole time we were moving and it got on my nerves. I didn’t like his inquisitive questions and he was even trying to sell his merchandise. He was too nosy and suggestive. I just wanted to move. Still, I gave a tip and I would use the company again. I had no problem with their rates and their service. I just wouldn't want that driver.

We were living in Pompano Beach and American Van Lines were a local company down there. They weren't a broker, so we decided to go with them because they were a legitimate moving company and they had a good price quote. Their reps were good overall. They kept in touch with us throughout the move and made sure that everything was accounted for. They locked us in at a good price and we ended up using them twice. One time, we had stuff missing but they were able to locate it and got it back to us in a timely manner.
I spoke with a couple of different people, initially the claims department, and they were helpful. But I was a little irritated because I thought they were going to get it out sooner when they located the items. But it turns out, FedEx doesn't pick up as frequently as initially thought. But it still made here quickly after that. The manager followed up with me about it and she was very helpful, polite and understanding. I was initially disgruntled about the missing items, but I was happy with the way they resolved it.
There were multiple movers, which was good, and everyone was friendly. We've used other places in the past and I ended up having only one person deliver all of our stuff, which wasn't satisfactory for us. But American Van Lines had sufficient help. Everyone was careful with moving our stuff in and there was not much damage to any furniture. Overall, they were friendly, accommodating, expedited the move quickly and they were on time. But overall, I like their personal service and the personal touch which carried through all the way to moving to our new place. There was an honest desire to be helpful.
Their movers were friendly, courteous, and very, very professional. Cherry and his crew were absolutely marvelous. Since I'm retired military, I have a considerable experience with packing somebody up and they did a great job in getting everything done from scratch to in the truck and ready to go within eight hours, which was marvelous because they moved nearly 5,000 pounds. I used American Van Lines for a 10 miles move. The person who coordinated the move was very nice. We talked about my furniture and what I had, which was just boxes and a few furniture items and a bed that needed to be disassembled and then assembled back again. When the movers took all my furniture, they were in a big rush, and it wasn't a problem for I know there was a timeframe. But one of them used my bathroom and made a mess. And it took a good 20 minutes, so we had to wait for him.
When we arrived at the destination where we were putting all my furniture, the movers refused to carry my couch upstairs. I had to get my landlord, who's 85 years old to speak to them in Spanish because they couldn't understand me. They didn’t speak a word of English. And they were going to leave my couch outside. He had to speak to them and tell them that there have been bigger couches up those stairs than the one that they were telling me that they couldn’t fit. He, at 85 years old, had to help three young guys, take my couch and get it up the stairs, which it did fit. And then, they billed me for more because it took more time.

I moved from Las Vegas, New Mexico to Florida, which is 2000 miles and where I'm at now. I explained to the American Van Lines rep that I've never moved across the country like this and I was very nervous. This was a big move for me. They told me they'd take care of everything. I ordered the complete package. They were supposed to pack and unpack for me. When they initially set it up, their rep called me and said, "Well, your furniture might get there by the end of December." But that's not what I was initially told. They did manage to get it here by Christmas. I was very happy with their truck driver, Rick. He was very nice and very professional. He did everything that he could for me.
I paid over $5,000 for this move. However, when my furniture got here, one of the two people that were packing was not very friendly at all. It was like he was in a hurry to get out of here. They weren't asking me where I wanted stuff. Half my stuff was in the storage room outside, which I needed inside. They just kept on putting stuff in my storage room. They brought my clothes in and they just laid it on the bed. They were supposed to help me put things up but Rick said, "If we unpack, we're just going to set things everywhere. We're not going to put them away for you. And it's just going to be a bigger mess." I have a picture of over 30 boxes that I put away by myself.
A lady called me and I told her about the rudeness of the packers. She sent me a refund for $175 for my inconvenience, for what the packers did by just shoving stuff into my storage room and the mess that they left. And I told her, "I'm not accepting this as my full claim." She says, "No, ma'am. You still have a right to file a claim."
Also, Rick told me my coffee table was damaged. He said the load must have shifted. That coffee table weighs a lot and has heavy tiles on it. All the tiles were busted off. Everything was just hanging there. There's no way I'm going to have that fixed. They then brought it into the backyard. And then, I had a glass entertainment center that my big screen TV sat on. The top shelf of the glass was scratched badly. I also have a butcher block table that's on wheels and that's all damaged up too. It leans now. The inside of the cabinet is all busted up. My small computer stand was also broken. I took pictures of those and sent it to American Van Lines' office.
Now recently, my husband wanted one of his watches. We have a clear container box in our dresser where he had four watches, and three of them were missing. I have not relayed about the watches yet to AVL because we just recently discovered it. Although I had called the lady a week ago to check the status of my claim. She put me on hold and she came back and said, "Well, you do know that we have 140 days." I said, "Okay, ma'am. Thank you." I've got all my paperwork now. David was the initial person that I had contact with when I initially took American Van Lines on and he informed me that they would arrive in New Mexico on the 12th. They would load and they would leave, and they would get to Florida on the 16th. But that was not how it worked. I'm happy that my furniture got here but I'm not happy with the condition it came here in.
When this initial thing came up with the coffee table and Rick showed it to me, he said, "You can file a claim, but they're going to take it out of my check." That made me feel bad. Because this man worked hard for his money. I don't want them to take money away from this man that's got a family to support. And I did mention this to the lady that sent me the $175 back and she said, "He had no right saying that to me." Also, while unpacking here in Florida, they were taking stuff through the back gate through my yard and to my shed and Rick told them, "Just be careful because she has dogs so that you don't step on anything." I said, "I just cleaned the backyard." And one of the guys said, "Well you didn't do a very good job." I also mentioned that to the lady and she said that was very uncalled for.

Don’t believe the biased high ratings for American Van Lines (AVL) seen online. AVL buys people’s silence if not 100% satisfied. To accept their “settlement offer”, you sign a contract saying you won’t say anything negative about the company. AVL caused over $8000 worth of damage to our belongings (not counting damage done to either house) for which they offered a settlement of $1483. The movers’ attitude was great. Whenever I tried to help box items or carry items to the truck, AVL repeatedly informed me that I paid them to do the work and I shouldn’t be doing anything. But one worker clogged our toilet. Rather than saying anything about it, he closed the door. I found the mess 2 DAYS later. I had to purchase another plunger to unclog the toilet. Also, items were not packed carefully (e.g., 1 sheet of paper between 2 glass pie pans). I was expecting an 18-wheeler to carry our belongings like we had before.
AVL showed up with a small truck, realized not everything was going to fit, and rented a trailer to pull behind the truck. AVL strapped my grill, wagon, & plow to the outside of the trailer (they wouldn’t fit inside). I rented a trailer to carry what AVL couldn’t fit. Our belongings were emptied into AVL’s storage unit, then reloaded when we were ready for delivery. The day we closed on the house, AVL called to make arrangements; dispatch gave me a delivery window of 2:00-4:00pm. I told them that we wouldn’t be closing until after 1:00. AVL arrived at the house at 11:00am. The driver chewed me out because I wasn’t there to take delivery and if I wasn’t there by 2:00, he was going to charge me a waiting fee. I arrived at 1:45. AVL wasn’t there, and didn’t return until after 4:00. I told my wife what happened.
She posted a bad review on Google. Within 2 hours, Theresa (caseworker) called me and said if we removed the post, AVL would give me $200. The post was removed, but I never saw the $200. She told us we had 90 days to file damage and loss claims. Just a few weeks ago (way too late to add to the claim), I discovered that my 2 sets of handcuffs & keys were stolen. I repeatedly told them to take extra care of some items due to their sentimental or intrinsic value. Several were damaged. Not expecting that much damage, I foolishly signed Option 2 of the contract, which waves full replacement cost. It allows for replacement cost of $0.60/pound of that item. AVL’s settlement offer for some items was $508. Because the damage to the house was not noted in the log when the movers were here, AVL only allowed $725 as a “courtesy allowance” because I had pictures.
There was a long list of other items that AVL did not offer fair settlement because their damage or loss was not listed on the bill of laden. As the homeowner, apparently it’s my responsibility to assess loss or damage to EVERYTHING as it’s unloaded. I guess I was supposed to go through every box while the truck was being unloaded to check for damage, but had 90 days to submit the paperwork? There was a 5-man team unloading items and entering the house through 2 entrances, some boxes and items were left in the garage. I could not keep track of everything. AVL used a $200 rain barrel as a packing vessel. It was filled with tools, then a chain was taken out of a tool box and thrown on top of the tools. The weight and sharp angles wore a hole in bottom, which wasn’t discover until I emptied it. A wood cabinet was destroyed. AVL put it in the garage and buried it with boxes so that I couldn’t see it.
Out of “good faith and customer service”, AVL offered a settlement of $250 for the items damaged or lost that were not listed on the bill of laden because of the photos. As per their agreement, AVL had 120 days to respond to that claim. After 121 days I called them. For me to accept their pitiful offer of $1483, I must promise that I “will not, directly or indirectly, make any negative or disparaging statements”. I would rather be out the $1483 and inform others of our experience.
Dear Joe,
Please accept our apology for the damages and other issues that occurred on your move. I am sorry you were unhappy with the settlement amount offered. Please understand we offered you nearly 6 times the amount you were entitled to according to the coverage option you selected.
As you know, you had a choice to purchase “Full Value Protection” (FVP) for an additional fee or accept the free coverage that all movers must give by law. You chose the free coverage which is a limited coverage option and unfortunately doesn’t always cover the replacement or repair of an item. At your delivery, you marked 4 items as damaged out of over 300 items delivered. The next day, you called into our office and added one more item as damaged. Then, almost 2 months after your delivery, we received your claim asking us to repair or replace 37 items. Even though you didn’t mark these items damaged at delivery, we still attempted to work with you and include many of the items for compensation.
According to the option you selected, you were entitled to $273. Also the claim you submitted had inflated values. In an effort of good faith, we offered you $1479 to settle your claim hoping this would make you happy but unfortunately we were wrong.
Please remember your items were put in storage at your request because you didn’t close on your new home yet. We didn’t know your closing was after 1pm. The day before your delivery, we let you know delivery was scheduled for 2pm to 4pm. The driver was running early and showed up at 10am not knowing you had a closing at 1pm. We didn’t charge you a waiting fee.
Our ratings are 100% unbiased and real. Everybody can see the thousands of good reviews we have and the few bad ones we get. You will notice, we work with the customers who are unhappy and most of the time we are able to resolve their issues to their satisfaction. We are sorry we couldn’t come to an amicable resolution here, but it wasn’t because we didn’t try.
We noticed you and your wife have reviewed us multiple times online creating duplicate content to make it look like we have more bad reviews than we have. We believe this is a vindictive behavior because we didn’t agree to pay your inflated claim.
We would still like to work with you in hopes of reaching a satisfactory resolution.
Even though we wrap and protect our customer’s items for maximum protection, sometimes damage happens. We encourage our customers to purchase FVP coverage for peace of mind. Just for the record, American Van Lines claims ratio and severity is much less than the national average.

We needed to move so we called around to get quotes, and I was able to speak to Mike, the lead guy for American Van Lines. He obviously had worked there a long time. He was extremely efficient and right to the point. He was also super nice and he walked through everything with me over the phone. At that point, he was giving me a quote and there was no dancing around. The quote was comparable to a couple of other places but Mike was so good to work with, so we ultimately went with American Van Lines. We had a couple of other companies come over and give us some quotes but their people did not appear to sound like they knew what they were talking about even if they walked around our home.
The American Van Lines moving crew consisted of a couple of guys who were from North Carolina. I've never used professional movers before. Most times, we've moved stuff on our own because we haven't gone that far. But these guys were unbelievably efficient. I've never seen anybody pack a truck like that. They busted their behinds to get the job done and they did everything in their power. Plus, they were polite. We had an issue with the scheduling out of Florida that they had a schedule for two days and we had to have the truck packed in one day. They stayed until after midnight to get the truck packed. They went far and beyond what my wildest expectations could have been and my husband’s too. These guys were fantastic.
We closed in Michigan on the 17th and drove down then we closed on the 18th in Tennessee. By that evening, they had all of our stuff in the house. They even had our beds put up for us. I ended up sending a letter to the president of American Van Lines complimenting these two guys and I received a note back. Two of our neighbors in Michigan who are moving are both using American Van Lines as well based on our experience with them. We'd recommend them to anybody. We were definitely most pleased with them.

We're moving from North Carolina to Texas for work. The moving consultant has been good. We're moving most of the stuff in the storage and then some to the apartment once we reached here. And so, scheduling-wise, it had been fine. The crew that came in NC to load the truck was good, especially the lead person who was extremely good and very efficient. However, we had a lot of issues with the crew that came in to unload the truck here in Frisco. There were four people and the lead person was constantly in an argument with the others on the team. Whenever I had questions for him I didn’t get straight answers and he always seemed to be rude.
Therefore, the last experience was not that satisfactory and we also have some damage to stuff when they brought them here. We contacted American Van Lines but they needed pictures. So we need to send a report on that. I suggest American Van Lines screen the folks that are coming for the move to make sure they were skilled and that they would meet the requirements. They also need to ensure that all the handling is done properly and that there's no damage.
Dear Bino,
Please accept our apology for the for poor service you received at delivery and for the damage. As you know, we are waiting for you to file the claim form so we can handle your claim accordingly.

The company was extremely responsive meeting tight timelines that had to be met. They were willing to apply additional resource when required. All timelines were met. The staff was friendly and extremely helpful. I would certainly consider them on another private move.
Original Review: Feb. 9, 2018
The company including its President openly lied about the process: Speaking to him directly he promised and certified there would be a reconciliation between a high-level estimate and an actual count. All prior movings I have used use a tag inventory system that is validated by the customer. Since their bill of lading was an exact match to the 15-minute estimate I refused to sign it. They also promised credit for boxes I packed. None was given. I estimate the overage of at least 200 boxes was close to an overcharge of $2,000. I will never use them again and intend to report them to the Better Business Bureau.

I was moving for work so I did some research online for a moving company and I came across American Van Lines as one of the high-rated companies to look for. I also spoke with a few friends and they said they’ve heard of AVL as one of the best ones. I had a decent interaction with their coordinator. She reached out to me right away to schedule the actual dates and let me know what I needed to prepare for. However, I did have some difficulty getting back to her at some points. But I understood later on that it was just a scheduling issue with her own schedule. Overall, I was satisfied with their service. The moving guys were absolutely fantastic. They were very thorough, they were on time and they did a great job. The actual delivery location was up two flights of stairs with no elevator and there were just two guys who did absolutely everything. The move was perfect and there was nothing broken.

The neighborhood I went to for surgery became very dangerous. After 3:30 I couldn’t even walk my dog. There were carjacking with guns right my front yard. This is on St. Charles Avenue, New Orleans in the Garden District. I've always wanted to live there but it got really bad especially towards Christmas. So, I had to get out of there.
The gentleman from American Van Lines who set up the move was good. It's just that he underestimated the boxes. I had less furniture and he said that with it being a one bedroom, it would just be a standard price. When the guys got in to pack it, obviously, it was more money then but only for $200. The packing went great. One guy didn't speak English and he seemed grumpy although I think it was just the accent. But everything was done in spite of one little bathroom broken glass. Also, only one box and one side table did not end up at my house and that was it. It probably ended up at another move because there were four houses on that truck. I contacted customer service about it and Theresa was awesome! Constantly, I never had a bit of problem with any of it. She was on the money. Everything was perfect! She fixed my check because we couldn't find one of my stuff and she replaced it. My sister went down to Target to get a replacement.
They asked to come early to bring the stuff so I had to fly home which is not good because I was here doing the paperwork for the condo. It was a little bit inconvenient because although they offered to hold my furniture for free, the carpet people couldn't come and now my new carpet isn't coming until the 28th of February which really screwed me up because the condo was supposed to be empty. They have been very accommodating. It just didn't work out. Still, I would definitely recommend American Van Lines.

We sold our house and bought a new one. The American Van Lines rep underestimated what we had and did not send a big truck but everything else was fine. My experience with the moving consultant was good. We had two different crews because we had to leave it on the truck for a couple of days because of the close on our home and we had to wait. The crew that moved us out of the house, it went smooth. There was no damage to the house and it was very easy. But then a different group with the same leader moved us into our new home and they cracked the step and put three dents on the wall. They were nice, but it was frustrating to have that. We're still dealing with that and we had to keep calling. It's a wood step and it's cracked in a brand new home.

We were getting ready to plan our move from Boca Raton, Florida to Central Florida in a town around Orlando, which was only a three-hour drive. I called a host of different people, and it turned out one of my good friends had just used American Van Lines. This was after I had contacted American Van Lines and set up with them, and it was a confirmation that it was a good company to deal with. My friend had the same experience even though her main representative was different from mine. The gentleman that serviced our account was spot on in every way. He came through whatever he said, and he made sure we had whatever was needed. There were certain pieces that were irreplaceable, and those were packaged well. One furniture was an Onyx mirrored bar. The Onyx came from Brazil, and it’s about 70 years old. I pointed them out, and the gentleman did an excellent job.
The men worked hard. However, they were tired by the time they unloaded, and some things were kind of placed haphazardly. Some things were broken, such as that one particular glass shelf for my antique cabinet. They never told us that it was broken, so we kept thinking that it was packaged with the other pieces. The plus side was it forced us to open up everything, and we got things put away really fast. But the glass shelf never showed up. When I called American Van Lines, they checked with the driver, and he said it was broken. He drove me nuts for four days unpacking all the artworks, so that was the only downside. American Van Lines was excellent, and my experience with them was good. I would recommend American Van Lines, and, all in all, I would use them again.

American Van Lines is professional. They weren't the best price from the multiple quotes that I got from other vendors, but they have a lot of experience in moving. I went down to one of their distribution centers and they were real. It wasn’t just two men and a truck. They had 20 trucks in their lot. My moving coordinator was very professional and accessible. We did an interesting quote because they charge by weight on a cross-city when I had to move from Charlotte to Raleigh. So, we did a fixed price based on weight and if it exceeded a certain weight amount it would be fixed at one amount. Otherwise, it would be a lower amount. The moving crew was on time and friendly.

I did some research on moving companies and read the reviews - some very positive and some real horror stories! I got three quotes and ended up going with American Van Lines, mainly because from the very start the customer service was excellent, although I also found their pricing to be competitive. I'd like to call out Toni **, the Moving Consultant I dealt with initially and Samuel **, my Moving Coordinator - both provided excellent follow-up and kept me well informed. I was never left wondering what was going on and my calls were always returned promptly.
My movers, Chris and Peanuts, were also awesome and did a fantastic job of packing and unpacking our household goods - nothing got lost or broken. It was clear they were experts in their field. The delivery window I was given was about 3 weeks but they delivered to our door in only 1 week. I realize much depends on where you are in the line in terms of pick-ups and drop-offs so we probably just got lucky but nevertheless, I was thrilled! It was such a relief to know I was working with a professional moving company who provided such great customer service - they really took away a lot of my stress. I had to relocate two states away and so I went on my phone, Googled moving companies and called around. The salesman at American Van Lines sounded most professional, and they had all the services that were better than everybody else’s. The coordinator was just as professional as the salesman. I was very satisfied that she knew what she was doing and she covered everything.
However, I’m in the process of filing a claim at American Van Lines because some things are missing and broken. It’s going to cost me to get them fixed and I have six months to do it. There's a couple of things I can’t get an estimate for because I don’t know who would fix them anyway. I need to use some of the stuff that were damaged and the sooner I do the claim, the better.
The people that did all the moving seemed to be novices. They were quick but they were not thorough. They wrapped some things and didn’t pack them, which is part of my claim at American Van Lines for getting things working again. For example, there were some glass shelves that went through a little glass display case. Now, my display case doesn’t have anything to display because I got to replace the glass. They can pick up stuff and move it, but they were not able to coordinate what they pack and what to move. The guys that unloaded were more proficient because all they had to do was unload and put it where I told them, and they did that quite well. There was some damage to walls and stuff in my new home, but the driver patched it with a can of paint.

I did a job-related move from Illinois to California so it was a pretty lengthy move. The American Van Lines moving coordinator was clear but the movers did not show up the day they were supposed to. We had to come back to California and then fly back again for another day because the trucker did not show up. That was a weekend and I couldn’t really contact anyone. When I was finally able to speak to someone and the guy, Kevin, basically said, “We’re sorry that happened. We are going to give you some discount once everything is settled.” I said okay but I had no choice anyway. Then, after the move, I never heard from anybody. I tried calling a couple of times but I couldn’t even reach them. Their extension is either always full or there is no way to give a voicemail.
I’ve actually used them twice; to move from Florida to California and also from Illinois to California so we had a lot of things moved. They basically hire local people for the move. So, I actually shopped for local people and they were cheaper but I was worried about whether or not they would be okay. The gentleman who set up the move was great. I had about a month advance notice. I set up my initial move dates and times about a month before the move. The move was pretty straightforward, out of a ground level apartment into a house. The crew that did the packing was awesome. I have a wooden furniture my dad made and it's exceptionally nice. I could tell that they took care of it and they made sure that they packed each thing the right away. The guys were really nice and I enjoyed talking to them.
The only thing was when we packed up my mattress and boxspring, I put it inside the mattress bag that I had bought and then we boxed it. Somewhere along the way in the transfer, from Dallas Texas to Colorado Springs, Colorado which was roughly 726 miles, the mattress bag was ripped and I got a stain on my box spring. I called and emailed them, but I never heard back. That part of the move was not very good. At the end of the day though, there was not much they could do. A stain is a stain and that was fine. We have moved a lot, locally and out of state and have had minimal issues. That all changed with American Van Lines. I chose American Van Lines because of their great reviews on this site. I should have paid more attention to the reviewers stating the good reviews were bought and paid for. We booked the movers a month out and by the time the move date came, I had been reassigned to 4 different agents. I was assured that they are not a broker and use their own trucks and employees. I received a call about 5 days out from agent number 4 and we went over the manifest and made all necessary updates and I paid an additional deposit. We were given a moving date of 9/26/17 and made arrangements for our children. That morning came and went with no movers or phone calls. I had to call and was told that they couldn't get a truck to us that day and they would come the next day.
I was told I would receive a call that night with a window for the following day. I never got a call. I was told that I would receive a call when the movers were an hour out. Never got the call and they just showed up. It was not American Van Lines, it was a company called BP (Best Price) Moving. They did not have the updated manifest from American Van Lines and there was not enough room in the truck to fit our belongings. After arguing back and forth and hearing nothing from American Van Lines, BP Moving said they were cancelling our move!!! After several frantic calls to American Van Lines, they assured me a truck would be back the next day. The next day, the same truck showed up without the one hour warning call and now had put in another person's load. They was about 15 feet of truck left to move our family of 5, 4 bedroom home. The movers knew they didn't have room but American Van Lines still sent them to our house.
We were closing on our house that day and had to be out! We got on the phone and found a U-Haul and local movers to help us faster than American Van Lines could do anything and this was their job! My wife was in tears, our special needs son is upset and our assigned agent was overhead calling us **! She called us this after what she and her company put us through. This same woman also didn't return calls she said she would several times. She refused to call my wife's phone after repeatedly being told to do so. We were ready to have the new movers come out when management at BP Moving said they would try to help us. They went and rented a storage unit and had to load all of our stuff in two trips and leave it all in storage and they would have another truck come through in about a week and pick it. We had no choice so that's what we did. We then made the 1700 mile trip to our new home.
We had a contract stating our movers would deliver our stuff by 10/14/17. They didn't show up until 10/18/17. They were 4 and half hours later than we were told on the phone call and it again was a brokered company, not American Van Lines. I was given a small credit for the 4 days late. American Van Lines offered us another $380 to sign an NDA and not leave any bad reviews. I could not in good conscience accept that money and not forewarn others about this company. I wouldn't wish our experience on my worst enemy.
This took years off of our lives and created an exorbitant amount of stress on my family. It was actually a good thing that they lied and brokered another company. BP Moving saved the day. I confirmed they were brokered and American Van Lines calls the brokered movers, sister companies. Don't buy this propaganda, they are brokers and poor ones at that. I won't even get into the book tree that was intentionally broken. PLEASE AVOID THIS COMPANY, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

American Van Lines was rated highly online. When the representative I was talking to came out, I felt that it was going to be a good fit. During the move, we had to go two hours away within North Carolina to an apartment since our house was still being built. They had to drop off furniture to the house and then to the storage unit. Their moving crew was very good. They were six guys and they worked very fast. There was a whole house full of stuff, as well as garage stuff and they had to take Sleep Number beds down, which took a little time. While the move didn't take very long, some of the stuff that we purposely boxed ourselves went to the storage area that should have gone to the apartment. So, there was a little bit of confusion and we weren’t able to even find it out until we came to the apartment.

Our lease was up and I was moving from one apartment to another. The American Van Lines coordinator followed-up and she made sure that everything was scheduled. She called me beforehand to make sure everything was okay. The consultant was also awesome. He was very friendly and when I spoke to him, it felt like he really had general care for our stuff. He explained everything and he went into all the details. I asked a lot of questions because the last time, I used FlatRate moving company to relocate, and they were horrible. He, on the other hand, was so patient and he really walked me through all the steps. I recently referred American Van Lines to somebody else that I know that's moving. I had a great experience with American Van Lines, and I will definitely use them again next time.

I called a couple of different places and American Van Lines could accommodate me the fastest when I was moving for my job. They were very organized as well. The rep was very nice over the phone and everything was quick and easy. My only concern would’ve been not knowing that there was a time lapse of when they pick up and can deliver. It would’ve been nice to know beforehand because I was hoping it would happen over the weekend and it didn’t have a week of time in between because I was moving from state to state.
As for the moving crew, the one that I had originally in Waukee, Iowa was great. They were super nice, very efficient and fast. The one that was in Chicago did a great job except they were only going to accept the cash payment from me, which was not what was mentioned to me over the phone so it was shady. But then they let me call someone, who called them and confirmed that I could use any type of card to pay for it. It was fine after we figured it out.

I placed a deposit in early June 2017 for a coast-to-coast move at the end of July 2017. American Van Lines lured me in with competitive pricing and a professional sales staff, but things quickly turned negative after I placed my deposit. American Van Lines backed out of the move after our agreed upon pick up date. They were difficult to reach and changed their plans leading up to the move, and they continued to change their estimated pick up time after the original pick up time had passed. Eventually, they cancelled completely, leaving all of our possessions with no place to go.
American Van Lines followed up their nonexistent service with shady business practices. Instead of refunding my money like an honest business would, they tried to strong-arm me into signing a waiver to stop me from writing about my experience with them. When I refused to sign such a document, they told me that it would take weeks to refund my deposit. Do not do business with this untrustworthy company. My credit card company helped me get money back to hire a reputable mover. Otherwise, American Van Lines would have left me completely stranded. If you value businesses that stand behind their contracts, look elsewhere.

I had sold my home and bought another one 27 miles away. But everything worked out fine.Toni, the moving consultant who assisted me, was very knowledgeable and thorough. She did the quote and walked me through every step of the way. I had some concerns because I was leaving the country just prior to our move and she was aware of that. She came through with me once we got back just to confirm everything.
There was supposed to be two trucks and four guys. We had paid for eight hours with two hours of wrap time. But they only showed up with one truck at 10:00. At 12:15, one of the guys approached me in my house and asked me what my plan was for all the stuff that was left over. I was a little concerned when he said that the truck was full and there was stuff left. I had to enlighten him that he was only two hours into his 10-hour paid time frame. I strongly suggested they make two trips which was what they did.
We ended up getting charged for an extra half hour which was no big deal but it could have been a lot faster had they actually had the two trucks that they were supposed to have. When they got to their warehouse in the morning and there was only one truck, they should have questioned that. But at the end of the day, everything got moved so I’m fine. And I have to give credit to all four movers because on our moving day, we had a freezing rain slash snowstorm going on and they were all out in the snow.

I was looking online trying to get people’s opinions on a good mover for a good price when I found American Van Lines. I got a good feeling after I talked to them over the phone which I didn’t feel with the other moving companies. Their moving coordinator sounded like they knew what they were doing. They were friendly, professional, courteous and accommodating. We moved from Maryland to Florida and it was a little bit hairy for us, but they made it much smoother than it could’ve been. We had our house that we were moving from prepared to sell, and we were concerned that the move would beat things up. But, the moving crew was very careful and did not beat things up at all. We were told that the move could take as much as two weeks but they got down there in three days.
In terms of their price, it was relatively correct. It ended up being more than they thought, and they could’ve jacked it up but didn’t so it was also very impressive. I’ve talked to friends and neighbors with our stories about moves, so it was scary both price-wise and damage-wise and we didn’t get any of that from them. I’m a tough customer to please but I’m happy with the overall experience and I’d recommend them.

They gave us time to decide then I called them back and said we were ready to go. They looked at where we were going to be delivering furniture versus where we were and agreed to the service. Both moves made by American Van Lines were no more than 15 miles. Before the first move, I told the guys that we just painted the walls and for them to be careful in moving the furniture along the walls, and the move went great. The guys were fairly friendly. But during the second move on the 20th, I had brand new walls that were marked up from the furniture movement. Plus, there were things moved out of storage that we specifically did not want to be moved out. We simply got an apology after they already came to the house rather than telling us that they’ll take it back. There was another issue when the delivery guys left our bedposts for our large master bed with headboard and footboard. Those were circular posts that come on and off. They left a couple of those on the truck and they called us to say they’ll bring it back the next day.
They came, left and walked away. They could have put it on the bed as it should’ve been assembled but it wasn’t done properly. The rest of the bed that they put together wasn’t attached to the frame at all, only for me and my husband to discover that after laying in it for a couple of nights. The second move was pretty bad and I certainly wouldn’t recommend American. On the other hand, the sales rep, Toni, was the main reason why I went back to American the second time. She was very friendly and she took care of our business and also had personal conversations.

My experience with American Van Lines has been pretty good. The packer in Austin, Texas was very good and the removal of the things from the house was excellent. During the delivery, however, there was a light snow and they should have had more things to lay down to protect the carpet from their wet shoes. I was having to squat and be sure they didn’t get into any dirty snow and sweep it off and so forth. They also had to take our grand piano outside and slide it down the snow hill to get it into the house. That was the only option they had because they couldn’t take it down the stairs and it went fine. When I asked them if they were going to come and unpack the stuff since we had the TV and some pictures crated, they told me that it would be $1000. That was ridiculous since they just removed a few screws and they could have uncrated it easily. I wasn’t going to pay them $1000 so I uncrated them myself.

She told me how they were going to do things. By the end of it, she had a rough estimate of the weight that I have to move, and based on that, gave me some selections as far as how many people it might take and how quickly it could be done. We came up with a quote and everything sounded good.
The move was a little bit different than I originally had expected because I've done corporate-type moves, where the corporation sends in a whole crew then they wrapped and packed everything, placed it in the truck and took off. I was thinking it was going to be that way but I found out when they got to the house that they don’t do any packing. So, we had to quickly pack things up and they would move it. Luckily, we already started well ahead of it and there was a lot of stuff I was able to do myself. There was a couple of different people that I worked with at American Van Lines. I worked with someone initially out of Miami. We talked about the inventory and we discussed when it needed to be moved and how much that was going to be. I had to make a few adjustments to that and it went really well in terms of the ease of making those changes. Every time we chatted or made a change an email update was sent so I have the information.
I feel like I dealt with somebody else later when it came to confirming the actual move and what day they would come. My biggest frustration is that American works within a pickup and delivery window. If you know you have to leave your house on a particular day but they say, “Well, we’ll maybe come this day or this day," that’s not convenient. Luckily in our case it worked out fine.
The guys who came to pack up were lovely. They were friendly, courteous, respectful and very helpful. They delivered everything when they said they were going to deliver it and unloaded it. I had everything packed up and they only had to pack up my TV. They came in and pick all the things and load it up. They were great. Although there are a few things that I’ve noticed that somehow in transit got a scratch but nothing that was significant or that was bothersome. And, their billing department doesn't seem to know what's going on because I kept telling them that we didn't have a date to move in. It was just a nightmare speaking to them and telling them to just bill me for the current month. They didn't seem to understand. I heard a lot of bad stories about other movers but my experience with American Van Lines ended up good and I was satisfied. Everything went well on the estimating level and the person who assisted me was so nice. When it came close to the moving date, American Van Lines wanted to add $300 more. I was relocating from Minnesota to Wisconsin, leaving an apartment and moving to another one, and because both buildings had elevators, they wanted to charge me more. I asked why but they didn't answer.
The person at their customer service said it was not in his hands so I asked him to connect me to their manager. The manager still insisted on it but I said I would not pay more for the elevators. If they didn't want to use the elevator, they didn't have to use it. They were very welcome to use the stairs bringing everything down from the third floor. It made no sense for them to charge more because elevators make the movers' job easier. Instead, he acted like he was doing me a favor when he said, "Okay. We won't charge you more, but this is the way that we work."
Then, on the day that the movers came, they didn't have enough boxes and materials with them. I provided them additional boxes and tapes then after that, I packed some stuff by myself. At the end of the day, everybody was tired and I signed whatever they gave me. I tried to be very friendly because they were hardworking people. But they didn't pack some items properly so I had some broken glasses. They also didn't deliver one item, which wasn't precious so I didn't file a claim for it. Then, on the day that they moved and delivered my stuff, I counted 60 boxes yet they listed 68 and they wanted to charge me for more packing. They asked for my consent to charge my credit card and they said they were not delivering all my stuff if I didn't sign it. I had already given my credit card to the company though and I was not giving it to the driver. Then they said they were going to charge me after a month. I expected they would but in the end, they didn't.

I went to the Better Business Bureau site and pulled up a whole bunch of moving companies. I got three different quotes, and American Van Lines came in at the best price and also guaranteed delivery by a certain time so I went with them. I called them and the dispatch connected me with someone who scheduled an appointment to do a video phone call. I was in LA and they were in Florida. Then, they called me on the day and time they scheduled it for, so I walked around the house and showed them all the different items I was moving. I also showed them the street because we lived on a hill.
The actual move was surprisingly easy. Leading up to the date, I got a phone call and we confirmed the time, date, who was going to be coming and what I needed to be done. They came on the day it was scheduled and within the timeframe. They did such a great job. I had all the pictures on the walls. The only thing I took down was the television because they would have to get that subcontracted out because it's a big electronic. But they wrapped everything. They worked fast, very cleanly and efficiently. They had everything loaded up. I was very stressed about relocating my family but I was shocked that the actual move was stress-free. American Van Lines gave me a window of 5 to 10 days for the move but I got it in 7 days.
When they got here in Florida, the driver was the same person but it was completely a different crew. They were extremely efficient that they had the list of everything and they had all the boxes numbered and labeled. They had a different label to put on each thing so we accounted for every single item. They assembled all the beds and the cabinets. I was thoroughly impressed with American Van Lines as people have horror stories when it comes to movers and I was expecting the worst.
The driver was an incredible person. He had never worked with the LA crew but we wouldn’t have known if he didn’t tell us. And the driver has worked with the crew in Florida many times so the work was seamless. My stuff looked heavy but when they actually put it on the truck, it wasn’t. It came in $2,000 less from what they estimated so I gave them a nice big tip because all in all they made my whole transition which was really emotional just that much easier. I highly recommend American Van Lines and I have referred them to some friends who were relocating as well.

They were hands-on from the beginning so I dropped all the other companies that I was dealing with. I had a really good experience with them and I can't complain at all. The moving coordinator was so fantastic. In the beginning, there was someone else who started off but after they set it up, they told me that this other girl was going to coordinate. Every day, she called and was on top of everything and reassured me that nothing was going to be a problem. They were forthcoming with the account and the money and I didn't get any surprises. She followed through and every day, I got a phone call.
The movers were excellent. I wasn't there at the move and when they got to Alabama with my stuff, I had a family member of mine meet them there and she congratulated me and said that they were really a great company to deal with. We had a storage unit there and they were delivering to the storage unit on a Saturday. She told me that everything was right on and well done. And she said she's had bad experiences before with different moving companies and she was really surprised at how well my delivery was on April 29. When they said they were coming between 4/23 and 4/25, they came at the right time and they informed me.
They were very accommodating. They gave me a non-binding estimate and there were no surprises. The money was right on and everything went really well. There was an inventory list and everything was checked off. Nothing has been broken or destroyed. From the initial phone call to the delivery, I got excellent service. I felt like they were part of the family. And I had friends there helping me and everybody complimented me on the moving company. I had zero regrets because this is not the first time I've moved so this is my best experience.

When I spoke on the phone with the lady that helped me set up the move, she was very thorough as to find out how many boxes I needed and all that. The movers were amazing and did an excellent job. They were a few minutes late, but my time was flexible and I understood how it is with the traffic in Miami, which is bad. I expected some kind of issue since I never knew what a 95 has to offer once I get on it. Finishing the move took a little longer than three hours. I couldn't believe how quickly the move happened. The crew was quick and very patient. They took two and half hours to pack up my house. It was a two-story five-bedroom house though I didn’t bring everything. But they were really good once I pointed out what was going and what was staying. They were also really good with the furniture and about getting and moving the heavy things down the stairs with no damage to walls. They didn't bang anything up. There was one little slip-up but they acknowledged that and it wasn’t anything that was going to show anyway so I didn’t worry about it. And then, when we got to Durham, getting everything in was done under two hours. That was good timing.
In the end, it cost me a lot less to move than I thought it was going to. I guess when American Van Lines estimate furniture, they go high because they want to be on the safe side but most of my things were lighter than they expected. So that was good too. I retired and moved away from the rural area I was in and moved to a city. And I'm very glad I didn’t try to do it myself. It was worth the money that I paid for professionals and for peace of mind. I loved American Van Lines and I would recommend them.

We were downsizing and moved from a location about 17 miles away. We went with American Van Lines as suggested by my real estate broker. Their sales representative was excellent and very attentive. He came back every time I had a question and made adjustments on pricing when applicable. The moving crew made note of anything we had that needed special attention and took care of it exactly as I had asked. We did a lot of our own packing and what we couldn't handle, like the paintings, mirrors and lamps, they did. They came and packed in a day, then took the truck and delivered the next morning. We got a 16-wheeler which carried 17-years worth of our stuff. Overall, it was a very good experience and their people were very responsive.

The people at American Van Lines were professional and the moving consultant was helpful and easy to work with. On the other hand, there were issues with scheduling the drop-off. And although the moving crew was fine during the pickup and delivery, they were the worst at packing and unpacking the boxes compared to any of my military moves. Things were not wrapped and minimal items were put in entire boxes that were not even necessary. They threw a bunch of miscellaneous stuff in so it was like they packed an empty box. A couple of things were broken and plants were shoved in so they got squished. My past experiences with other companies that I had worked with were far better.

I looked up online, read about American Van Lines and tried them out. Their packers were wonderful and everybody was great. However, I was given a two weeks window but I didn't hear from them in between until two or three days before when they were ready to go. I thought it was very short notice. They kept putting me off. I found that very difficult. Nonetheless, I would recommend it because I thought they were great.

The coordinator from American Van Lines was very personable, very nice and knew his stuff. He made sure we had enough boxes and even made 2 trips to our house to do that because his personal car was too small. Then he said that the fish inside my husband's car needed to be crated and I agreed because when we moved before, that was crated as well. He also said that the large TV needed to be crated. So we paid extra for the crates. But when the actual movers came, they had no crate. I was concerned about the fish but they said they would take care of it, and they did. It got here perfectly and the same thing happened with the TV.
When we got to our new location and I was inside the house directing where the boxes went, they had some company come and crate the fish. The other thing was never discussed, though we paid for more than one crate. So when some lady called about the crates, I told her that we needed a refund since we never got the crates. I also wrote an email or sent a text message about it to the coordinator. Then I talked to their liaison twice and told the actual movers. We don't live here all year round, we live in Maine part of the year, and the movers told us that now we could take the crated fish to Maine in the car, but I don't know any car that was going to hold this crated fish.
I told every single person that thought I didn’t need the crates and the crates never came. But they told me that they did. I also said that they crated the fish in the driveway of the new house and that it was only one crate. So it was kind of Laurel and Hardy thing that they did. They moved us then they crated us so that they didn't have to refund us the money. Anyway, my husband had to uncrate the fish to store it and it took him a couple of hours to do so. Then we had to throw all the wood away since regular garbage trucks didn't take wood anymore. We were completely overwhelmed with this move and that was the least of our problems. Also, I normally follow through on things, but at that point, I was so frustrated that I chose not to because the movers were one of the loveliest people I'd ever met.
Usually, it's the people on the bottom that gets the grease, and I didn't want to make any trouble for them. They were very kind men and they did a very good job. They were phenomenal and were very thorough as nothing was broken. They were very clean men, too. They also had to bring a lot of stuff up to the second floor but they never complained and kept their sense of humor. One of them was helping me decorate the new house and where to put the furniture. So they went above and beyond. I was by myself during the move since my husband was out of the country, and I never once felt uncomfortable. American Van Lines is a good company and I would use them again. I would just be smarter about the crate situation. We had a good experience overall and a couple of hundred dollars for the crates wasn't going to make or break us. We’ve also recommended American Van Lines to others.

My move from Charlotte to Fort Lauderdale was fabulous. The workers were very respectful and courteous which is important to me. They treated me the way I wanted to be treated. They wrapped everything well. Although, since American is using big semi-truck, my mover told me that if his truck wouldn’t fit into my building parking lot area, he would have to manually transfer all to a smaller box truck and that would be an extra $500 fee. I wish the coordinator told me ahead of time because moving was a stressful time plus hearing my driver tell me that it would cost $500. But I got lucky that it didn’t need to be transferred, although my cost was already around $4,000. The driver was doing his job but the staff people should have warned me and it must have been within the contract.
I also paid an extra $500 for them to come straight down so I didn’t have to wait a week for my stuff. They showed up and they had three workers. I was very, very happy with the workers that American sent. I would definitely recommend American and I'm actually going to be moving again here when my lease is up because I'm not happy with this place, so I am going to be needing another mover. So, I'm going to call them first and see what their price is because I'm sure it's going to be a lot less to move locally.

Their moving coordinators were helpful, very friendly and professional. They gave me good advice on being prepared, got back to me when I called and they were very thorough. During the move, their crew was very fun, personable, hardworking and did a great job. We have a main house and we have a smaller, second living in the back so some things had to come to the main house and some had to go to the other house. The movers themselves worked it out and made sure things went to the right place. It was a very smooth moving experience. I even told a friend who just moved to call them.

But, other than that, they got in, got to work and didn’t mess around. The cost ended up being more than I thought it would be but I also had more weight than I thought I was going to be shipping. When moving things from storage in Arizona to Florida, the truck arrived at the storage unit with one person, the driver. My daughter was there waiting, and had hired two movers to take her things from the unit we shared to her own. We paid these two men separately from American Van Lines because we needed more than one person to load the heavy furniture. On the delivery everything was perfect. Three men were there to take the furniture into my home in Florida and did a great job. American Van Lines reimbursed me for the extra money and gave me even a bit more due to the mishap and inconvenience. I would go ahead and use this company again.

American Van Lines is a well-known name and my daughter decided to get them to bring my stuff from Arizona to Florida. The moving coordinator was very reassuring and we felt completely safe and wonderful. She was also very professional. My daughter flew from Florida to Arizona where we had everything in a storage unit and she had to separate them out. She was there to make sure everything was okay out on the truck. American Van Lines was supposed to come at 10:00 in the morning so my daughter went at 9:00 and hired two guys off to move her little stuff out of the way and to make sure the way is cleared so when American Van Lines came, the movers can get my furniture out more easily. When American Van Lines came, there was a driver and no one else. I have a huge desk, huge bed and heavy stuff so my daughter told the two men we hired that we’d pay for another two hours for them to load the stuff onto American.
Everything got on the truck and my daughter said that the driver was very good at packing it in the truck and everything was packed very well. Then, they drove everything here perfectly and came just in time. They delivered everything and my husband received the stuff. American brought three people here because we complained so much. They put it together and we’re happy. The first half of the move was not that great but the second half of it was perfect. We had this ugly beginning for I lost money and American will not refund anything which is fair since I paid extra to the other movers. Also, I didn’t like the lady I was talking to, who we used to like. She did not offer to refund.

Our American Van Lines rep was awesome. She was the only reason we got their services. She was personable, found out what we needed, and was aggressive to meet any quote that we got from anybody else. Then, the moving crew was also nice. They were swift and didn't waste time. We had to stop by a storage unit on the way to our new place to drop off a couple of things and the team leader was very accommodating. One of the guys took out some of the tracks of my son's drawers to make the moving easier. He told us that he would put them back on and tighten up the screws, but he didn't and just went and put the tracks in the drawer. We had to go back through and tighten up all the screws. There were also a few things that we had to reattach and bend back into place. But overall, we were satisfied with our experience.

I was living in Arizona and I had an accident where I fell down some stairs. I'm 73 years old, so I couldn't live alone anymore and my daughter lives in Florida. So, within a week, I had to make arrangements. I had a larger than 2,000-square home that needed to be packed immediately all by myself. I contacted American Van Lines and the sales rep called me back right away. It's one of the things I really appreciated about them. They were so prompt and very transparent. Their rep told me exactly what I was going to be paying for. He got me the estimate right away and he was very accommodating. I was really stressed out and they took a little stress out of it. I also requested that they accelerate the date without charging me extra and if they could pack for me, and they did it all.
Sam, my moving coordinator, texted and called me several times a day. He wanted to know if I needed anything else above and beyond the moving stuff. He was great. He would even answer me on the weekends on his phone. I couldn't get around too much because I had fractured an ankle and the moving crew moved me around, they packed exactly the way I wanted and they were extremely courteous. Within just a couple of weeks, we were packed and I was on my way. No one else would have been able to do that, because I called a lot of different moving companies. Everything arrived great. If you want an honest group, go to American Van Lines. They're going to do what they say they're going to do and they're going to do it on time.

The movers were great. They were respectful, friendly and cordial. They were very protective of the furniture and I have high remarks for them. The other hitch we had was on the right timing. We liked American Van Lines' cost and the availability for them to move us. My previous house sold much quicker than we thought. We thought we’d have at least a couple of months and they wanted us out in 28 days. We went through the house and surveyed everything that American Van Lines needed to move and where it was located. The movers needed to familiarize themselves with the house, the layout of all the boxes that I had and the furniture, which to take and which to leave, and everything went very smoothly. The crew who picked up the furniture was a hard worker. They were a lot of fun. We joked back and forth and it was nice out of a turbulent atmosphere of moving furniture.
When the furniture was delivered here, I had a countertop where I laid out all the paperwork and they would yell out the numbers and I would check it off. And as they were checked off, I would tell them which room to put it in or if they needed to pile it in the garage. They set all the beds together as well. They worked like a team who worked before together. They were a business and they wanted to get a job done and get it done as fast as they could of course because they're going to have to go on to something else, yet they were friendly. And when I asked them a question, they were very helpful and no matter what I asked them to possibly do, they just did it. I was satisfied. The issues I had with American Van Lines have been resolved.
Original Review: Dec. 29, 2017
We moved from South Jersey to Clearwater Florida and it was important to me that American Van Lines handled the entire move and I was ensured that that would be the case. But, that's not what happened. We sold our house very quickly and agreed to a closing date. About a week before closing, American Van Lines told us that a reciprocal partner was going to handle the move. From there on, there really was no customer service. Trying to get a hold of people was very difficult. As soon as they had my deposit, I felt like that was the end. When I found out about this other mover, I tried to get in touch with somebody and left messages, but there was no return call and no response when I called.
We had a moving coordinator who was supposed to be in charge of our move. My husband had one interaction with him, then we asked for another. The next guy didn't know what was going on. We had more information than he did and he wasn't helpful. The last two conversations I had with him, he jacked up the price by thousands of dollars. So we stopped interacting with him altogether and just dealt with the reciprocal mover. The actual moving crew was very hardworking, but there were damages to articles. There were several wet boxes and they had to be tossed. There was also damage to furniture and there was broken China. I packed my stuff very carefully and marked the boxes that had breakable things in them as fragile and they were just tossed around.
The other part of this move that was very aggravating was the fact that my husband was in Florida. He had to come down here because of his job and I was in New Jersey. When I arranged the move I wasn't sure of the moving date. I knew when I had to be out of my house but, as it turned out, we were not going to be able to get into the place that we live in until July 11. The movers called us on the fourth of July and wanted to know the address. When I found out the day that we could move in, I notified American Van Lines. Then, we were charged for storage but there was supposed to be free storage. Another thing was that where we're living, they do not allow a big tractor-trailer. They don’t allow that size vehicle there. So they had to move our belongings from the tractor-trailer into a smaller truck and we paid for that.
In addition to that, because I've only planned on not having a place to stay until the 11th, we were put out until the 17th. That's when our furniture was delivered and it was out of pocket lodging expenses that we didn't plan on. So it was expensive and very irritating. There was no service whatsoever with this move. It was terrible and awful. American Van Lines reached out to me last night and they were trying to make me a little happier. But I was very unhappy with the move and would never recommend them.

At that time, the hurricane was coming through Florida so we had multiple conversations to make sure everything was straightforward and correct on the list. We were trying weeks in advance to get everything set for the move. The rep from American Van Lines was very nice and everything had been ironed out. I told my agent three or four weeks out that we needed to close on the morning of December 15th and to make sure that there's nothing that needs to be done. We had the idea that they could come that morning to get the furniture and then drop it off at the new house that afternoon, but then we found out that we couldn’t.
We had some last-minute changes the week before the move. The lawyer decided that we couldn’t close until 3:00 because of some miscellaneous form that she said weren’t filled out. So, I called AVL back and asked what we could do. We wound up with them taking out the furniture on Thursday and dropping it off at the new house on a Friday afternoon. They put everything together and I was pleased with that last minute shuffling around. I was a little mad at my agent but the move was still good.
The three guys that came out to pack and pick up the furniture were very nice and polite. They were very careful and there were very minimal problems like scratches. One of my big worries was my computer which I planned moving by myself, but I was tired. I asked them if they could pack it so, the guy put the computer in a small box and put blankets all around the sides. As he closed the top, he had a little slot that was just big enough to put a keyboard in. I was stunned and it looked like a manufacturer's packing up. I found American Van Lines on Better Business Bureau and I chose them because of the reviews and their rating. Everything was fine and I had good communication with the moving coordinator by phone and by email. I had to store for a period of time and when I was moving to Florida, we began to schedule the delivery but a hurricane came so we had to wait until it has left to proceed with the delivery so that got delayed. The only way to deal with it was to have a slower delivery. They showed up and they have their list of all the properties but the homeowner was not involved in boxing all the stuff and delivering them. The problem is when the boxes were coming off the truck, they have about five people doing it but there was nobody checking the inventory. Also, the homeowner has no idea of what was coming on and going off.
I had about 40 boxes of legal boxes containing my clients' files and I stopped the crew when we picked them up and had them put tags on those boxes and I kept my own inventory of the numbers. During the delivery, one of the crew was part of the team that loaded my properties in North Carolina so he already knew what the routine was. But still, I told all four of them that when it comes to those boxes, they have to look at my list to confirm that every box that went from those legal boxes were taken off. Nothing got damaged but I found out after about two and a half months when we did the move that I'm missing a box of Christmas decorations including small glass pieces that we have collected over the years.
However, I was satisfied with my experience. They have indicated the price and it was what it turned out to be. There wasn’t any surprises and difference. I have heard of other companies wherein as the property is being brought to the house, they’re negotiating a different up price so the homeowner is stuck with either paying it or the material is going to go back and then they’re going to have to fight with that. So, I find the financial part of it to be very good and I would definitely recommend them.

One of the reasons why I used American Van Lines was because the lady that referred them to me had used them for a move and she, at some time before, had lost a diamond watch in her house. John, the driver, found it and gave it to her so I knew they were honest and dependable.
I felt badly for the guys on the truck though. I don't think the transport organizer had a clear picture of how many things I had and if the guys hadn't brought some extra boxes, it would have been so hard for them. The three of them were fabulous though. I had their phone number and they had mine and we communicated a lot. I retired and relocated to Williamsburg, Virginia. I went on the internet and I did some research to find out who the top moving companies were, and American Van Lines was at the top of the list. However, I got switched around a couple of times but nobody called to tell me I had a new coordinator. I found out on my own, which was not quite right. When I switched to the new coordinator, that person led me through the process, and that was okay. I didn’t have a lot of furniture to move, but I have a very expensive bedroom set. My bed is an electronic Tempur-Pedic, which is the main reason that I wanted to hire a professional moving company because I wanted to make sure that nothing was damaged. If anything happens to those units, they are very expensive to repair.
The two gentlemen that came to move it were very professional. Though they were very polite and customer service oriented, they left a mess. There was debris left from the packing and wrapping of everything and I had to clean it up. Also, one of the things that I noticed as they were wrapping up everything was that the material seemed to be a bit worn. It was a solitary wood furniture and I was concerned about that, but again, I was more concerned about the move of my bed. I really wanted for the entire mattress to be thoroughly covered.
They knew it was a Tempur-Pedic and they said they'd be careful, and for the most part, they were. But when I looked at the mattress once it was delivered to Williamsburg there were a couple of tears in it. They were very small but they were not there when the furniture was first moved, so that happened in transport. I did not report that because when I pulled up all the forms for American Van Lines to file a claim, there were so many forms and things that I had to do. I was in the process then of getting my health insurance together for retirement, selling my house, going into settlement, etc. I had a lot going on. The time frame for filling out those forms was too short for me and it required an awful lot of work.
With the bed being electronic, I really wanted to make sure that it worked. I was able to test that out, and while I'm not satisfied that my mattress has some tears in it, it did not stop the bed from working. But that told me that in transport, it was not fully covered. I was also told that I would know beforehand when the furniture was being moved to Williamsburg, but I had to find that out on my own. I was in Maryland at that time selling my house. So then, I had to quick trip it down from Maryland to Williamsburg. I was also told that I would know prior to the delivery, and that I would get a phone call letting me know that they were on their way and exactly where they were. I did not get that call. I got a call from my brother-in-law telling me that the movers had arrived, but I was out of the house.

We had just sold the old house and did not have a home here yet. A lot of coordination was needed in terms of the sale of our house and when they could pick up the goods. Plus, I had to be there when I wasn’t living in that house.
Vicky couldn't have cared less about my needs. She never got back to me when she said she would and would leave me hanging. She called me and I explained to her that I was promised I'd know something by 5 PM that afternoon, I asked her if she can tell me by 5 PM. She would "hmm" and "huh", then wouldn’t call me back. When she got transferred, nobody ever let me know so I was still trying to contact her to get information on my move. The second coordinator was better. She called me back when she was supposed to. She kept me posted even though a couple of things got screwed up. She was very good in informing me.
Both of the crews that worked with me were very good and kind. However, they broke an expensive pot that I've had for close to 17 years. Plus, the first driver accidentally took off with my cell phone. We had the exact same cell phones and mine was lying on the table by the paperwork. When he left, he took my cell phone. Nobody answered when I had my husband call my cell. However, the driver shipped it to me overnight the next day and I got it back.
When we sold our house and I had to get my goods out, they picked up the goods within two days after I called them. But getting it back was a lot more work. When I was finally ready for my goods it took a good bit of time after notifying them. They said they had 18 days, but that is a really long time to be waiting for my goods if I've given them a date. Overall, they were good and I'd recommend them.

American Van Lines helped us complete a move from LA to Atlanta, Georgia. The consultant was very thorough and the price was very competitive. Plus, the driver was very professional. All in all, it was a good move.

American Van Lines' moving coordinator helped me get what I needed to be done. I moved from Missouri to Michigan and it took from Thursday until Sunday. The moving crew were four hours late because they were scheduled to show up between 9:00 and noon and they did not get there till 4:00 in the afternoon but they knew what they needed to do and got it done in a timely manner.

I had estimates from a couple of people to move my stuff but I didn't like it so, I re-chose. I asked my realtor and he gave me the number of American Van Lines. They were very respectful and very courteous when they came, and they handled my stuff with respect. I would recommend them.

American Van Lines was referred to me by a mutual friend who spoke very highly of them. I met with the salesman, Bryan, who came to my home and he was excellent. He took everything into account including all the rooms and my garage, and that was the end price. Also, the moving crew was awesome. They were three very hardworking young men and they did an incredible job overall. If they had a question, they asked and they treated everything very carefully. Everybody that I contacted with, beginning with Bryan, was great all the way through. I was especially impressed with the crew that was headed by a young man, who was a bit older than the other two gentlemen.
We had established a company here in Boca Raton, Florida and we had bought some furniture from a company that was moving locations, and American Van Lines also moved us then. That move went excellent as well. Everything went as well as you could possibly expect. If I was to move again, I would definitely ask that they do it. And to anybody who needs a mover, I would give them Bryan's phone number and tell them that they're crazy if they use anybody else.

I choose according to how intelligent the people are who run an organization. The president of American Van Lines is my former student. He was highly disciplined and very intelligent, and the assistant was a former student, too. AVL was very careful and the communication among the employees with me was wonderful. The move was a five-hour move from South Florida to North Florida, and they picked things up in two different places. I was moving a lot of really unique stuff that was breakable. We had a hurricane and I didn't know what was going to happen, but that didn't stop them from working hard. Everything came perfectly and their price was great as well. My experience was exceptional.

I moved within the state. American Van Lines came out, did the estimate and the price was very reasonable. The guy was very nice and the movers came when they were supposed to. They were on time, very neat and they stacked everything great, nothing was broken. They did labels, too, so I could label everything.

American Van Lines committed and met our requested delivery date. Our goods arrived in great shape, which was to be expected due to the care they took in initially packaging it. They expressed regrets for being a bit vague initially, but we agreed that the hurricane that swept through Florida this past year played havoc with their schedules. The delivery team was very professional. While on the phone with their dispatcher they have extremely been polite, and called to le t me know the status and estimated time frequently.
In the end everything turned out well.

We sold our house in Massachusetts and we're building a new house in Texas. We needed to find a mover that is capable of moving our material cross country, but also store the material in the meantime because the timing wasn't the same. We were going to be living in a condominium we also owned elsewhere while the house in Texas was being finished. The American Van Lines coordinator was very knowledgeable, went through all the paperwork with me, sent it to me, gave me a good explanation of what was required as well as what to schedule specific move date. The assignment of the moving truck was subcontracted to another company because American did not have a truck back to do the pick-up.
The move was supposed to happen on Wednesday but the moving company called after their due time and said they were not going to make it today and would see us the next day. The next day, they called again at the due time they were supposed to pick up stuff and said they won't be here for another six hours. Then they came to pack everything up and by the time they got done, they said it was too late to load the truck so they came back the next day. While they were very polite, I was disappointed in the fact that all the pick-up times were not met. What should happen on a Monday, by 11:00 o'clock, ended up completed on Thursday. What it meant for me was I had to unpack boxes to stay for the extra few days, so that part was not good.
So I requested that my goods be delivered to me here in Texas on November 13th. I still have no idea if and when my goods are going to show up here. They were having trouble getting a driver and it's starting to irritate me because I know there's a window of 3 to 21 days after requesting a date. I had one fork, one spoon, and one knife for my wife and I. We don't have any of our comfortable furniture. We have no dressers, tables, coffeepots, pots and pans. I still do not even have a scheduled date for delivery. I'm not happy.
If someone doesn't come and tell me where my stuff is, then I'm going to charge American Van Lines money for holding my stuff. Three weeks almost have gone by from my target date with a month in advanced notice. I don't understand why they only have a shipment date. It's not acceptable to not even be able to tell me where our stuff is or when I am going to get it.

I'm military and I move around a lot. I've purchased a new home 20 miles away and I used American Van Lines. The moving coordinator stayed on top of things and there was consistent communication between us. When the movers came in, they packed and moved their thing in a good amount of time. They were nice, friendly and professional. They made the move a lot easier and everything was great. If I had a chance to move again, I will probably be using American Van Lines. I would give others the description of my experience and tell them to contact American Van Lines, too.

American Van Lines is a brand name that people know and we had used them for a previous move too. My husband got a new job on the other side of Texas, which means that it's a two-day drive to get there. We had been hit by Harvey and one couldn't get into our town. We were supposed to fly out and find an apartment, but we couldn't do that since Airports were closed.
We talked to American Van Lines and they were able to come get our furniture. We drove over and they did the load without me being there. A neighbor was there just to make sure they got everything and apparently, they did an excellent job down at that end. Plus, they treated my neighbor quite nicely. We weren't expecting them for two days, but they got here half a day early and got everything unloaded. They knew we had been without furniture for 10 days and got here as soon as they could. That shows true professionalism and great customer service. It also shows that they were concerned about us.
The drivers were great and the coordinator was absolutely wonderful. We had to change the date of the pickup because the trucks couldn’t get into the town due the flooding, but it was a great experience and I would definitely use them again. They did an absolutely great job under very difficult circumstances and I would recommend them immediately.

I was moving from NYC to Denver recently and as the date of my move was coming closer, I got more and more anxious about picking the right moving company. I did so much research, heard so many horror stories and got at least a half a dozen estimates. I ended up going with American Van Lines because they were the most responsive, very detail oriented and had excellent reviews on Consumer Affairs.
From the moment I signed the first estimate until the day my things were delivered, everything was done very well. My sales person John ** was so patient with me answering all my questions and my moving coordinator Araminta was extremely responsive and helpful. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was because the move had to be outsourced to a different moving company last minute due to lack of AVL trucks. The pick up went smoothly but the drop off not so much. A few of my things are damaged and will need to be replaced, for which I will be filing a claim. BUT things get damaged in a long distance move and I understand that. That is why I would advise everyone to get insurance separate than what the moving company is obligated to pay. I definitely recommend American Van Lines, I felt like they were on my side and protected me. Any move is stressful so I needed the support they provided me with.

Our daughter had just moved and the company we went with was an absolute disaster. So, I was a little more cautious with our move. I found American Van Lines online and I talked with them several times because there seemed to be a communication issue with the actual date that we could move. We were selling our house in Florida and we were closing it out and then we were also closing out our house in Connecticut. And I had been very specific with the dates before we could move from Florida and before we could move in here and there. We went back and forth several times with them setting up pick up and delivery dates, but it was finally resolved. We had the same crew in Florida that we had here in Connecticut and the guys were great. Everything went very smoothly and everyone kept in touch with everybody and it worked out perfectly. American Van Lines is a very reputable company and I would definitely recommend them.

I was having a reasonably, spatially complicated trip but it seemed like something American Van Lines would be able to do. Stuff were being moved from a place that I'm renting out and I had not seen what was moved. I had been renting that place off for a long time and a whole bunch of stuff wasn't there and the problem is I don't know whether the renters took it or if it just never got packed up. The most interesting that sort of fascinated American Van Lines' driver, who seemed like a nice guy, was that one of the beds came without the bed support and nobody could figure out why that was.
Some things were also broken and I don't know the extent. The people from American Van Lines were professional and everything was wrapped well so I have a suspicion that anything bad happened because of the renters and before American Van Lines even got a hold of it. Everything was well-coordinated too. There was some woman that was contacting me from Florida and she did a good job. The driver also seemed like a nice guy and he kept me posted on his arrival. That part worked smoothly. American Van Lines also voluntarily reduced how much money they got because the stuff weighed less than the estimate. So that part was good and the move was a little cheaper than I thought it would be.

I was shipping a vehicle and the shipper gave me the name of the company, American Van Lines. My interactions with the moving coordinator were great. However, we had some issues. We had to leave before the movers came in, so we had a friend who would stay at our place in Connecticut while they packed up. They left my whole washroom. I had an ironing board, brand-new iron, step stool, and all kinds of things in my washroom that never got moved.
When the moving crew got to Florida, they seemed very nice, very friendly, and seemed to be hard workers. But they didn't finish everything the way I had hoped that they would. They didn't finish putting together a vanity dresser in the bedroom. There were a few things that were broken that I didn't notice until after they were gone. I wished they had let me walk around with them before they left. They could have fixed some while they were there, but I wasn't going to go through the house trying to get the company to fix it after. I didn't have any priceless antiques or anything like that. I wouldn’t give them an A-plus, but I'd give them a B-plus. They were all very nice.
