We were very happy with the service and quality of our move. The front office was very helpful and responsive, and the movers went above and beyond to ensure all was done to our satisfaction. We would highly recommend American Van Lines to others.

Your estimate was well below everyone else I spoke with. Your packers/driver were kind courteous and handled my things with care. I would highly recommend your service to any and everyone. Thank you for making a terribly stressful move a truly remarkable experience.

The moving coordinator from American Van Lines was very good, knowledgeable, polite and cordial. We moved across town from the west coast to the east coast to be on the beach, and there was one mover who was part of the group who did the least amount of work. He had a bit of an attitude but I spoke to the leader and he spoke to him, so they were very good for the most part. Unfortunately, about eight pieces of my furniture were damaged so I’m putting in a claim and I’m going to have to go through the claim process and deal with that. Overall I would use them again and I would recommend family members to use them. From the initial consultation to providing the boxes, they were very professional.
Hi Carlos,
Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry you received poor attitude by one of our movers. We will handle this internally. As soon as we receive your claim, we will handle it quickly for you. I am thankful your overall experience with us was still positive. Thank you.

Great company, showed up on time, assessed what was going and got it done in less time than was estimated saving me money. I was alone so the unload was a bit overwhelming with stuff coming in so fast trying to direct traffic and unload wardrobe boxes but they even helped with that. Very satisfied with the whole operation from initial call and quote until completion and follow-up. Highly recommend these guys. Thanks.

This has been resolved. I received a check for $375 dollars and mailed the form that I needed to sign. The Customer Service Manager told me that I should be receiving a $50 dollar credit to the card that was used for my move. Thank you, American Van Lines.

Allen, the moving coordinator from American Van Lines, was fine. He was the one that set up everything. When they moved me out of my apartment at Ellesmere, I was on the fourth floor. Allen was very well aware of this. There are elevators but they're not large enough to accommodate some of the pieces of furniture I had, like my dresser. However, the movers made it known that they weren't too happy about carrying some heavy pieces of furniture downstairs. And after the men delivered my furniture at Oakridge, I got the impression that they were waiting for a tip. It was very obvious. But I didn't feel that it was appropriate.
Then I saw the crew visibly scratched my wood floor and one of my jalousie windows on my front entrance door got cracked so I had to replace it the other day. My grandfather clock doesn't seem to be working as it once was, too. These were not so good experiences so I called AVL's customer service department and talked with Josh. He was supposed to have somebody call me back. I called more than once but nobody has ever called me back so I took things into my own hands and put in a dispute of the $980 balance with my bank.
Hi Marsha,
We are sorry our movers acted unprofessional during your move. As you know, we are waiting for you to finishing sending in your claim so we can handle it for you. We always aim for 100% customer satisfaction and hope to resolve your issues to your satisfaction.

AVL's moving coordinator was very nice. My husband was there for the move itself and I wasn't, but their people told me they were gonna notify me before the move and they did. They also told me they were gonna call me half an hour before they go there which they did as well. The people of American Van Lines were very professional from the beginning to the end. Everything was perfect, and nothing was damaged or broken too. I'd definitely recommend the company.

I had a very nice experience with American Van Lines. The moving coordinator gave me information that helped me decide to go with them. He was very helpful. The moving crew was very thorough, too. There were some things I didn't have in a box and they helped me put these into the box. The AVL people were very professional and came within the timeframe given. The only issue was that a bookshelf got broken, as well as my shampooer. But, other than that, everything was nice. I also recommended AVL to my daughter who's gonna move to Arizona.

I was aware of American Van Lines because I was in the military. However, I googled them when I was in Phila and did some price quotes with some other van lines, but eventually decided to go with American. The coordinator was really nice and he kept me abreast on everything. He sent me documents and we had to sign them online, and they had all this neat and progressive software which made it very convenient for me. We stayed in touch throughout the whole process. Even when the packers or the movers were there, I had to call him to ask a few questions and he was always very responsive. Plus the movers were very efficient, friendly, courteous and they moved fast. It was a great experience and I would certainly recommend them to friends.

I had a 100 mile move and I used American Van Lines. I was gonna go with Two Men And A Truck and American Van Lines gave me their initial price which was a little bit higher. But then, American Van Lines agreed to match Two Men And A Truck so I went with American Van Lines. They were able to help me understand that if it's an interstate move, there's a certain amount of money that's gonna be added to it 'cause it's not a local move. They were upfront about everything with their cost. I feel there's an even lower price but I understand there are also regulations against that.
I gave the moving consultants some basic information like how many boxes and they said, "We're gonna put you overweight which is a good thing 'cause if you're underweight, it won't be as much on the charges at the end of the day." And because I was underweight, they made the price go down. The person who helped me out down in Florida was also very professional, open and very available to me for any questions as far as email or phone. She was really a big help. I give American Van Lines credit 'cause I had to move fast and they got me in on a schedule pretty fast.

During our move to another state, the American Van Lines moving coordinators were knowledgeable and helpful. The moving crew were fine and they were very hardworking. And although we weren't real happy with the condition of some of the containers that we've had and with some of the furniture that got scratched or broken, we were happy with the overall move.

Thank you American Van Lines. Our move from Florida to Illinois went very smoothly and was completed as promised. The workers that picked up the furniture in Florida and the workers that delivered in Illinois were very friendly and courteous. Our moving coordinator Benjamin kept us informed throughout the process of moving. We appreciated that. We definitely will recommend American Van Lines. P.S. After everything was unwrapped and put in place, the delivery driver and I checked all the furniture and unfortunately we discovered two items were slightly damaged, he took pictures of the damage, I notified Benjamin and in a few minutes later I received a claims form.

For the most part, our moving coordinator from American Van Lines was pretty good. Then he got moved to another position and things were a little bit dicey, but we were able to get through and communicate. Overall, it went smoothly. It's just that some people change positions in the company and they had to shuffle us around. Also, the crew was great. However, we had a couple of items that were damaged and we never heard anything back from them about that. We sent pictures of the items that were damaged. One of the items was inconsequential and the other one we're still able to use but it got torn and dirty and doesn't look as good as it used to.

I was moving locally and American Van Lines was referred to me by a friend of the family who’s in the moving business. The moving coordinator who assisted with the purchase of the moving was Peter and he was terrific. He came out, gave an estimate, and looked at everything personally. He was very knowledgeable and fair. Someone else helped plan the details of the move and the experience was great.
They were very knowledgeable and accommodating to dates because my move ended up being complicated. The closing date of the sale of my home and the purchase of the new home got pushed back while they were loading the truck. So they had to stop loading the truck and unload the truck. Then I had to reschedule for two days later. They came back and reloaded the truck and then held the items overnight for me and delivered the following day at my house which was about three blocks away. They were within the window that I was given for arrival and they were waiting for me when I got there to the house the next day for the delivery. The whole experience has been efficient and fair and I would recommend them.

I was searching for a moving company online and American Van Lines seemed to be the most convenient for my purposes. The moving coordinator was very good and clear as to the procedure and services to be provided. He quoted me a price which was a little high but after actual weighing, it was reduced significantly so I was very pleased. Due to traffic, the crew came around 3 o'clock in the afternoon and because the elevators in our condominium do not allow move outs after 5 P.M., they were only allowed to pack until very late at night. They came back the next morning and so a one-day move turned to be a two-day move. But it was out of their control to reach here on time and we communicated about the situation. And their crew was also very polite, cautious and expedient. So in general, I'm satisfied with how everything turned out. They provided professional service as expected.

We used American Van Lines for a long distance move. The lady who took our order was nice and professional and the guys who came out the day of the move were exceptionally good. The crew didn't ding any walls in the old and new place or bang up our furniture. They also gave us a timeline and worked within it. We liked them.
However, we didn't get somebody to come out to see the rooms and what is going to be moved. From my understanding, that’s the way it works with long distance kind of hauls. When my mother-in-law moved years ago, she said someone came out on site and actually did a walkthrough. That would’ve been great for us, to actually have somebody come out to say, “Okay, this is what you’re gonna expect,” based off of what they actually see as opposed to us just telling them. We ended up selling off a few things when they got there because we didn't earmark it the correct way.
Other than that, the service American Van Lines provided has been great. They got the work done and went above and beyond doing little extra stuff that wasn't included.

I recently enlisted the services of American Van Lines through a strong recommendation from my real estate agent with regards to a property in DelRay Beach, FLA. My introduction was through an excellent communicator named Brian ** who detailed all that would be happening from start to finish and he guided me along the way with the progress of the packing and shipping. In addition Barbara ** provided excellent status updates as the furniture and contents were moved. I was amazed that while given a 2 week window for delivery which was fine it ended up coming a week earlier. Who could beat that? When the driver and movers came they were very professional and personable. Despite being late due to being stuck in insane NYC traffic during holiday time they were in good spirits. We fully understood the reason for lateness which was not all that bad when all was said and done.
They were also very fast and efficient and we were grateful when delivery was complete and it was all over. Again Brian and Barbara provided awesome support to us from start to finish and were always available when a call was made about any questions or status. We are pleased with AVL and would highly recommend them as your moving choice without reservation. We cannot thank them enough for handling our move the way they did!

I knew American Van Lines, so I used them. I liked everybody that I worked with. Every person that I dealt with was very professional. The delivery people were fine. There was no slacking off. They did it as quickly as they could and as professionally as they could. I just have one concern though. When the guys showed up with the truck, they had some things they had to unload to get to our furniture, which was fine. I did not know that those were used mattresses. They were all in plastic but some of the plastics were torn and it concerned me. I didn't know where the used mattresses came from and it could be that it didn't come from this area. After that, I saw on television where this company goes around and gets mattresses. Some of them came from really bad places and they refurbished them. There were a few stains on some of those mattresses. They were used and they shouldn't have put them in with the furniture.
So far, our stuff is still in storage and we don't know if anything has gotten on them because of those mattresses. They couldn't deliver the furniture when they were going to originally do it because their truck broke down and it took almost a week longer. And by that time, it looked like they had loaded up these used mattresses. It was definitely on the way. Ours was on the front. Hopefully, there was no contact with anything and nothing's on there. We're not getting our furniture out of there until the 26th. It's too cold to go look it over, and I'm hoping that whatever is on there, froze to death.

They gave me a good rate and I compared it to other companies and to the cost if I did it by myself. It was refreshing that they all spoke English and they were extremely cordial and respectful. They were very careful with the things that they moved. They had promised it on a certain date and it came a few days before that.

I wanted an easy move without a lot of problems which was why I went online and saw that American Van Lines was well-reviewed. The people who do the heavy lifting are at the core of the movers because they're the people that we spent hours with. It's good to have a good coordinator but the actual movers were underappreciated. How careful or reckless they are, how polite or not polite is a huge thing. They should be respected and paid well. They were definitely on the job, no nonsense and were conscientious. They kept unloading the truck and taking things wherever we said to take them.
There were some controversy with our experience. The load weighed more than what was anticipated. They'd given me the final cost and I had already gotten a check. Before the movers had made their final delivery to our house and after I paid premium for it, they asked for more money. The rep told me it was a computer glitch and she was helpful but it would've been nicer without that. Other than that, my experience with American Van Lines has been good.

My mom is 88, my dad had passed away, and she's always talking about her friends, our old neighbors, who lived down in the Carolinas. Then I found a really nice house there which we bought. Hence, we decided to move there and I looked for movers. Somebody suggested to check out American Van Lines so I googled them, spoke to the guy, and they took care of me right away. Anything that I needed answered, they answered. There were also no hidden things, they told me everything. I wish I would've called them sooner and had them do the complete move. I made the trip with three trucks myself when I could've had them do it for what it cost me.
I originally talked to Joe then they hooked me up with somebody else who was the actual guy to call for the move. Everybody was great in helping me out. I had no problem as far as them picking up or what they did with the furniture. I was here when they took all the furniture. Since we had taken some stuff down prior to them coming, they ended up taking some other stuff that I planned on taking down at the end when we were done selling this house. I felt very comfortable with them.
My brother went down to help assist with the moving and they had some problems getting into our property. But they still did it and didn't charge me anything extra. They called me here thanking me for the tip that I left for them. I stayed in touch with the guys. I even offered that they can park their truck on our property overnight when they're in the area and have waiting time. They can stay in the house and we'll have a cookout. They felt like family and that was a good feeling.
The week before American Van Lines showed up, I had this second transport from New York come to my house with a regular truck. They told me they were going to take my furniture to Connecticut and then transfer it to another truck. I told them there's no way they're going to get the furniture in there. I'm not putting my expensive furniture in that truck only to have them bounce them all around and move them to another truck. I was also going to have to wait another three weeks before the furniture is delivered.
They got pissed off and the guys rummaged through my mom's jewelry, actually stealing my $1,000 camera. But I got a security system in the house so I got them on videotape rooting through the jewelry, going through the drawers, and picking up my camera, then stuffing them under his shirt before walking out. I called the District Attorney to tell them what happened. I'm going to sue that other moving company for everything. I'm totally disappointed in how people can lie to me over the phone.
But with American Van Lines, they did above and beyond whatever they told me. I would recommend those guys to anybody. I asked them to send me flyers and cards to send them out to over 300,000 customers with the different businesses that I have as well as my friends. They're the best company I ever dealt with in my 60 years of life. If I had anybody that I had to deal with on a regular basis, I would definitely use American Van Lines every day without a worry and trust what they would do for me and what they told me if there was a problem because they don't lie.

Oh man, this company just delivered our household items. What a nightmare. The good - they were friendly. From my phone conversations with them to the gentleman moving the my items - they were friendly. They were on time when they told us definite times and dates. Everyone from my main contact person, to the drivers was very nice.
The bad - where to start. First - I haven't even unpacked yet. I am kind of afraid to. On pick up they already broke things. They came with a truck that was already 3/4 full. I told them that we had a four bedroom house with six people's stuff. They did eventually did fit it in but they had my entire household's worth of furniture and boxes in the front yard while they were trying to figure how they were going to fit it. Then it began to rain. Everything got soaked - mattresses (that were in moving bags but the open side was up so there were nice plastic bags to catch the water), sofa, chairs, oak table, all our boxes. They then frantically starting tossing things back in my garage.
In doing this two boxes full of kitchen glass items (that said fragile on the boxes) were tossed with the contents in them shattered. I called my consultant on the phone in tears. She told me to take photos and when we go to file the insurance claim we can put all this in the claim. And this was before they even left my front yard!
Fast forward two weeks. They are getting ready to deliver our items to our new home in Michigan. They were upset even before they got there once I told them it is 1 mile down a very hard packed dirt road. "I don't think our truck will go down that road." This is a road that other semi trucks go down as well as heavy farm equipment with thousands of pounds of hay. It was being moved in the winter - but we made sure the driveway was clear of snow. The new driveway was about twice as long as our old one (which was a short suburban driveway), so we figured they would have to haul the items in from the road.
When they got to the location they refused to haul our items from the truck to the home since they couldn't get their semi in the driveway. Now they didn't fit it in the driveway at the home we were leaving - they just took it from the house to the truck on the side of the road. They refused to do this at delivery saying their equipment won't do that. This was a very cleared hard driveway. They said they would have to rent a U-Haul and move everything from their truck to the U-Haul, then move the U-Haul the 75 feet length of the driveway and then haul the furniture from the U-Haul into the home. The cost - $950. We asked if they could just leave it in the U-Haul and we could unload it ourselves. They refused. Our items could have been moved up the driveway - they didn't need to transfer it to a uhaul and then up the driveway and into the home. That was crazy, but they refused to release our household items to us any other way.
We knew if they couldn't get down the road that this may be something they had to do - and we knew there would be an extra cost with it if they had to - but they were at the entrance of the driveway!!! How many driveways can hold a massive semi truck - we have never had one that could before. The items could have been taken up the hard driveway on their dollies, that was how they were taken from the home we were moving from and it was no big deal. I hate to say this but I honestly believe the driver was angry at us for calling to complain about all our items getting wet in the rain and the two boxes that we know got shattered that they decided to retaliate by doing this.
Now - I thought about waiting until I see what is broken and after the claim has been set to write this - but since the reviews on this site were the number one reason we went with this company I wanted to put this in there now. We had to pay for this move ourselves - and our cost ended up being over $7000 and WE DID ALL THE PACKING AND WILL BE DOING ALL THE UNPACKING! All they did was load a truck (we had all the boxes in the garage when they arrived), drive from Florida to Michigan and unload a truck. I will NEVER again pay a company to move us. It totally isn't worth it. I would have much rather paid the $1500 total (truck and gas) to move us ourselves. If you go with this company get a 100% binding estimate. Or better yet - don't go with this company. I am terrified to open the boxes and see what we have that survived the move.

I've known about American Van Lines for many years, so when I decided to make my move across several states, I thought of them. I also sought out Mayflower and other companies but American Van Lines had the better rate. My moving coordinator stayed in touch all the way, and anytime I had any questions, I was able to call her.
The moving crew was fantastic. The streets in the apartment complex where I was were being repaved so they couldn't come into the complex. When I gave a call, they even offered that we do the move from U-Haul from my apartment to the truck that was parked out. They worked very hard. I came from a one-story to a two-story and they took and set everything up. I was very pleased.
The move went very well. I was missing one box but it doesn't have the essential things that I needed, and I can understand that since they have more than one customer on the truck. I had someone else's box, and they sent me a FedEx label for FedEx to come pick it up. Overall, I felt my belongings were safe and my experience was fantastic.

This is the best experience with a moving people that I have ever had. They were prompt, courteous and polite, fun and very helpful in loading my household into the truck in Texas. The delivery went just as well. They let me know when they would arrive and again they were prompt, fun, and fast and thorough in unloading the truck. Victoria was my main contact in the office and she also was wonderful in keeping me informed and helping me understand the process. I loved all the people that helped me with my move and I hope I have the opportunity to meet them again.

We wanted to get out of the Chicago winters and we had a seamless experience moving long distance with American Van Lines. The moving coordinator was really good, very upfront, and honest. She always got back to us with any questions that we had, knew what she was talking about, and wasn’t telling us one thing and then we turned around and found out something else later. We didn’t have anybody come over and walk through the house because she did it all for us. The crew worked harder than I would ever expect anybody to work. They did a phenomenal job for having just two people to do the job. Everything went great and we had the same movers move us once we got to the location. They moved the furniture back in, set things up, and were just as pleasant as could be. We didn’t have any issues with American Van Lines and they were great.

I was watching Undercover Boss and it was an American Van Lines episode. I happened to be moving a month later so I figured why not give them a call. My moving coordinator was very thorough, asked me a lot of specific questions regarding my moving needs and the items, the rooms and the size of things just to get the best quote available. I would call and their reps would call me back promptly if they weren't able to answer. The moving crew packed most of my large items up and I had some boxes already ready to go for them. They were on time, moved fast, made sure everything was securely and properly packaged and they took their time to load things. They weren't rushing so they weren't mishandling anything. I was a repeat customer of American Van Lines. I had requested for a quote online and I received a call. I gave them the list of items that I have and they provided me two quotes, one was the binding, the other one was by weight which is non-binding. With my last move, I had used the binding weight and I was satisfied with the experience I had. Even though it was $100 more than the non-binding weight but they did not change the rate and there were no hiccups at the time of delivery.
The crew was very efficient and professional. There were a few items that were discussed as part of the move agreement. They had to pack those few breakable items and they did that very well. None of the items were damaged when they delivered. There were minor scratches here and there and that was nothing I didn't expect during the move. So, it was all good.
However, I had a bit of tussle with the mode of payment. I was not comfortable filling up the details of my credit card on a form and hand it over to them so I opted for the other option which was a cashier's check or money order. I gave them the money order but I received three follow-up that I've not made the payment. But each time, I clarified the payment using the money order and it was handed over to the crew. Without it, they would not deliver the stuff. They were lost within themselves. There's no payment due on my end. They usually do not do cashier's check so they were not expecting it or it wasn't posted onto the account by that date. But later on, they came back saying that they have received the payment. Other than that, everything was tied in. Everybody was comfortable to work with and everything met my expectations.

My wife and I got new jobs, needed to move from Texas to Wisconsin and American Van Lines had the highest rating. My moving coordinator was very good and helped me in certain things that I needed done. She also let me know what needed to be done so the move could be quicker. However, when we were scheduled to have a delivery, we told them on a certain day and they tried to advance it a week when we weren't even close to the house that we were moving into. So we had to reschedule everything then they gave us a rate and they overcharged us because they scheduled it way in advance.
They reimbursed us a certain amount but not nearly enough what they quoted us. We were kind of blindsided at that point. Then there were certain things I didn't want messed up or broken and we even packed them in boxes marked as fragile. But some of them were broken. It seemed like they weren't packed right in the truck. And they didn't contact us to ask what was the damage. Overall, it was a frustrating experience for me.

Thank you for choosing us for your move from WI to MI. I am happy to hear it was successful. I noticed your move was during the summer which is usually more expense. May, June, July, and August are considered movers peak season and all movers charge a little bit more. If you have a choice of when you move, you will save money moving during the winter months. They went out of their way to meet us in the next state at our convenience. I looked up on the internet and was getting bids for our move. When I talked to the guys at American Van Lines, I told them I got a bid close to theirs with a company that is local, and was thinking of going with them. The American Van Lines rep made me all these promises, and sounded like a very personable guy who would carry through with his word, so I went with them instead. However, it didn’t happen that way. It took 20-some days to get our furniture from point A to point B, and we’re still missing our picnic table that went with our set of furniture outside.
I was promised that our furniture would be right there the day we'd arrive, and come to find out, they put it in storage, and then they were going to deliver it, but the driver got sick, and then another thing. We lived with two camping chairs and a paper box from Lowe’s, which was our table for those 20-some days. We didn’t have anything. We didn’t even have any clothes to change. It was a real test of endurance and wasn’t very fun. If I had to do it over again, I would not have let that person talk me into that.
The two guys that came over to our house in Oregon and loaded and unloaded our stuff worked their butts off. Those guys weren't getting paid enough as far as I was concerned, and they worked so hard it was unreal. They should be complimented. They were excellent. In fact, they were the only positive part of the whole trip.

We found American Van Lines online. I also called other companies and got their estimates and I found American Van Lines more affordable. The first person whom I talked to with the rate was nice but it was only good before the move. They told me over the phone that the charge is all for the 3000 pounds. Then, they let me know that there is another company who is going to move my luggage but my contractor will still remain with the American Van Lines.
Three different persons called me three different times before they picked up the luggage. We agreed I would pay a fixed amount for 3,000 lbs. I was told by everyone I talked with that the rate will be 60 cents per pound extra. But at the end, the other company was billing me $1.05 per pound. They kept calling and bugging me and I told them I'm not paying the $275. I told them, “I didn’t contract with you so don’t call me. I will pay whatever American Van Lines will charge me.” I have it written in my mail that whatever the contract with American Van Lines I signed, it will remain the same no matter who is moving. The movers were American Van Lines' employees and I didn't contact them. But at the end, whenever I call them, they either put me on hold or don't receive the call. They tell me they will give me a callback or mail me but they never did.
Then the other company told me that they have called American Van Lines and they have to take money from me. It was frustrating. Then American Van Lines said, “You should go and pay the other company.” I said, “Why should I pay to them?” Because I have it written down in my mail that whatever the contract with American Van Lines I signed, it will remain the same no matter who is moving. But the other company told me, “Pay this amount and we won’t do this.” I said, “Go ahead and do it.” I’m not scared because I didn’t do anything wrong. In the last email American Van Lines have sent me which they asked me to sign, I have paid them everything and the case was closed. I requested them to send it back to me but it's been three months now and they've never mailed me back. There was too much confusion...
In the end, I paid up because it's been three months already and it's better to pay it than be put on hold for one and a half hours with American Van Lines. But I will not recommend American Van Lines and if I will, I would suggest that everything will be documented on paper. Things did come safely on time and that was the good part. But as far as their rate and these dealings, I'd suggest to be very cautious. Their behavior is irresponsible, not satisfactory and not serious.

American Van Lines was referred to me by a friend. The move was excellent. The driver and his workers were excellent. He wrapped my things. Though one of my shoe racks went missing, but it wasn't a big deal. Everything was good except for the coordinator. I spoke with one coordinator and then there was another later on. Originally, I got a quote which was fine and I agreed to it. And later on, we fixed the dates when they told me they couldn’t pick up on a Saturday. They also told me they'd deliver it within a window. Everything that was agreed upon looked good. I had made notes on plans.
They called me up a few days earlier and told me that the pickup could be preponed, which I thought was okay. They said they could come and deliver it in four days, so until then, I didn’t ask for anything. I was moving from one state to another, and I had to take an apartment at an earlier date, which costs money. I was told that their truck would be coming down from Maine and heading to Atlanta. So, we'd get it in four days. I then made my plans accordingly, but when the driver came in, he said they’re not coming down from Maine. They were going to Maine then coming down to Boston, and I’d get my stuff after seven days. That was a major miscommunication. I understand the difficulties and limitations of a moving company and that everything cannot be delivered on a fixed date, but when I’m told something, I would expect it to be upheld.
It cost me money and a lot of headaches. I was misled into believing something could be delivered early, which spoiled the positive points of the move. It discounted all the efforts of everyone else. And because of that, I don’t know if I’ll recommend American Van Lines to anyone. It wasn't something that I would expect from a national mover.
Hi Vishal,
I am glad to hear your move was excellent and you were very happy with our movers. I am sorry to hear that the confusion on your deliver dates spoiled the positive points though. Please consider that delivery in a week is still very good in the moving world. I hope you will forgive us on this mistake and still consider us next time you move.

I was moving from Texas to Arizona and someone suggested that I call American Van Lines. The rep that I talked to was very nice but their rate is high and they broke my things. They totally ruined my roll-top desk and a couple of pieces of my furniture. The list is so long. I'm 75 years old. I didn't have time to sit there and haggle with somebody over how much it's going to cost to get this piece fixed. I finally gave up and they told me to file a claim but it would take forever.
The driver was really lazy because he did not do the inventory. He just left the sticker on it and puts whatever it says that's inside the box. I used to work for a moving company and when I did an inventory, I marked every scratch, every nick, every break, whatever I found on the piece of furniture. But he marked nothing. He was stick, tag and go. He was in a hurry. It was so strange because the boxes that they packed, everything was labelled "electrical" with nothing to describe what it was. I'm thinking to myself, "**, I'll be here forever" because I still haven't got all my boxes unpacked and found everything, and that was since June 25th.
I also looked inside that trailer and it was filthy. The blankets were dirty and things were stacked on top of the roll-top desk. The roll-top was down and it cracked all the way across. The back was hanging off of it! The stress from that move, it nearly put me in the hospital. Sure, the driver was a sweetheart and the man that worked with him was very nice too, but nice doesn't get a move done. I was very dissatisfied and I will never use them again. I will never, ever recommend them to anyone.

So I was a little skeptical when I got them in Florida. I called the location to make sure they're a legitimate company and they were. My moving coordinator was great, was on top of things and always called me back. The moving crew was way on time and I didn't expect them to get there as early as they did. I figured I'd be sitting there until the end of the time window that they gave me but I wasn't. So I was able to get moved and get other stuff done that I needed to get done during the day. They also had to spend 15 minutes extra trying to fit my desk into my office.
Even my mother was impressed. They were excellent, professional and wonderful. Everybody was nice and friendly from the verification person to the person that scheduled the move and to the two movers. It also came out a lot cheaper than I was quoted. This was a horrible experience for my family. We had Gloria give us a virtual binding rate of all of the items in my house. This was a flat rate based on the items list attached/Virtual onsite done to confirm accuracy. I will say that Gloria was very friendly and helpful during her estimate. We went through every room in the house. A week before our move American Van Lines called to tell us that they would not have a truck for our move. They put us in a terrible position. We had reserved the truck way in advance so we were shocked to find out a week before that they didn't have a truck. They reassured us that they would contract us out with a company and they would follow American Van Lines guidelines. We were told that we will have an 18 wheeler arrive on moving day and that there would be plenty of room for our furniture.
On moving day an 18 wheeler did not show up but a 16 foot truck showed up. Then we were told that all of our items would not fit on the truck. We told them "I'm sorry but all items must go on the truck. We have closed on our house and must be out and we were promised the truck would be big enough for all of our items." I told the movers that all the items and boxes are on the items list from the virtual rate and that nothing new has been added. The movers then proceeded to tell me if I wanted all items moved that we would have to pay $1700, that they would not move our stuff.
On moving day my husband had to cancel his flight and drive a uhaul truck with the items the movers would not put on the truck and drive 20 hours. We also purchased a package to ensure that all of our furniture and artwork would be paper wrapped and padded to ensure that it would protected in the move. We were also going to be putting all of our furniture in storage while our house was being built so the items needed to be wrapped to keep it protected in storage.
The movers then made it to Scottsdale and unloaded everything in our storage unit. When my husband made it to Scottsdale and opened our storage unit, we were shocked to see that my furniture had not been paper padded and wrapped. The dining rooms chairs were just thrown in the storage and not wrapped, they were scratched up and broken. My nightstands the legs were all broken off. The artwork was not wrapped and padded. All the couch and club chair cushions were just tossed in the storage and not wrapped so my furniture was dirty. This move was devastating how they damaged our furniture and did not wrap it especially since we paid extra for this service. We payed $8500 for this move and it was a total joke.
here MO is to arrive at your house with a truck and tell you that you have more items and then they tell you they will not put the items on the truck unless you pay thousands of dollars. They know your hands are tied because you have to get your items moved.
After much research and investigation online because I felt like we had been scammed and I didn't want this to happen to anyone else, I then I discovered that the owners of American Van Lines Aldo Disorbo (possible alias Al Luciano, his brother is Anthony Disorbo, mother is Josephine) were being investigated by NBC Dateline for fraudulent moving company practices. I also discovered that Aldo Disorbo was charged by the state Attorney General's Office as a menace to consumers was found guilty of violating a court order that barred him from the industry for three years. The judge discovered that Aldo Disorbo had spent those three years playing active roles in several moving companies. After Aldo had been banned he continued in the moving and storage business after he was ordered not to, he did so to the detriment of consumers," according to Broward County Circuit Judge Thomas M. Lynch.
My advice to you would be to stay as far away as you can from American Van Lines, they are crooks.

American Van Lines was great! I was moving from Virginia to Ohio for a new job and their coordinator explained what they were going to do and what was expected of me. They let me know when the mover was coming and if I'm comfortable with what was going on. Their consultant kept me informed when the mover is coming for the pickup. The mover was right on time and the crew was very friendly and helpful. They kept me updated for every step and even helped me put some of the furniture back together. They were done with everything in one hour. The only thing that was a bit off is I had to do one payment and the other payment and the payment after the delivery but they kept calling me to do the final payment when my stuff weren't delivered yet. I didn't feel comfortable making the final payment until my stuff were already in my house. Other than that, I didn't have any big issue with them.

The coordinator and the moving consultant from American Van Lines was very helpful. I didn't know how much space I would need and consultant explained to me whether it was done by weight or square footage on the truck. He gave me a detailed list so I could check off how many items I had which gave me a good idea of the weight. I like that it was the same crew that picked up my stuff and dropped it off and they were good. They were helpful and professional. However, they were not really good at communicating the pickup time. In the beginning, I was told that there would be a three-day window and they would tell me when the first day would be. But on that day, they didn't tell me anything. I was waiting until noon or later. Then I finally called them and they said that they were not gonna be there until the following day which was really inconvenient. But what was more frustrating is that they didn't even let me know.
Then they told me that they would call me to let me know when they would drop off my stuff. However, I was just sitting in my living room when they pulled up without notice and no indication that they would be there on that day. If I was at work and not here, it could've been a problem. Other than that, it was a good experience. It was the first time I did it so I was nervous but I was happy in the end. It was not the cheapest one that I had called, but I'm still confident that I went with a little bit more expensive one. I feel good about the value for what I got, but the communication on the delivery time, pickup, and drop off would have been better. But I would still recommend them.

My experience with American Van Lines was terrible. The pick up was fine and I asked that everything to be immediately sent. However I was stonewalled for over a month. Then, I was told on a Friday that my stuff would be here the next day, and then later that day I was told that my stuff still had not left North Carolina. I was left living in California with my kids for well over a month, living and eating on the floor like I had absolutely nothing. Every time I tried to get something done about it, nothing was done. They just kept dragging their feet.
Also, American Van Lines missed the first window by a day which was a three-week window. Then, they missed that date by two more weeks at least. When they showed up, they showed up with an 18-wheeler when I'd already paid for the shuttle service. They still weren't able to deliver my stuff. When they brought back a shuttle, they had someone else's stuff on the truck and they walked into my house with someone else's household goods. That took another three hours to get it sorted out. It was absolutely ridiculous overall. If they didn't make me sign a gag order to get my money back then, I would destroy them on social media and everywhere else I could because they're absolutely the worst company I've ever dealt with for anything in my life.
Please accept our apology for the issues on your move with our company. Even with so many trucks, we were unable to meet your delivery time frame as promised. We realize the discomfort delays cause families and always try our best to be on time. I had a very positive experience with American Van Lines when I had to move for a job relocation. They were very knowledgeable and were willing to help me and answer all the questions I had. But the quality of the service that I received evened that out.

I inquired about this after the fact and received a $50 refund, which I thought was great. Overall, I am very satisfied with the service I received. One thing I do not like is the amount of emails and calls I've received about submitting my feedback. I am kind of only submitting this because I'm hoping it will make them stop.

I was moving across the country and AVL's moving coordinator was not very good with facts and information. He was very nice and factual but was a typical salesman. I felt like nobody was listening to the details when I'd call back and give them details. Nobody was taking the details and following through with them. And in the end, my move cost way more than what I was originally told. I kept going back and saying that I have more than what was originally thought to the person that was coordinating it after the salesman. I was told not to worry about it but I had to.
In the end, there wasn't enough room on the truck because I was the last pick up. And other customers had more than they expected. And the movers got there very late, after hours. I was able to let them in the gate because my house was close enough to the front gate, where nobody would be disturbed. But I would have been fined by the HOA. But AVL making that racket until almost one o'clock in the morning was further jamming the development. And then I couldn't have my wardrobe boxes because there wouldn't have been enough room in the space that was left over for my move. So, I had to put my stuff in cartons. And my clothing that I had left out to put in wardrobe boxes didn't need to go into cartons. And then they had the nerve to charge me for the cartons which was wrong considering I couldn't have the wardrobe boxes, which is what I was expecting.
And I had a mirrored console table, which will cost $400 to fix. And even if they tried to fix it, they have no guarantee as the whole top has to come off because that's the part that's chipped in the corner. And in order to remove the top, they could damage the sides. So, in the end, I might as well go out and buy another whole table. That was the only piece that I kept telling them that I really needed packed. And they packed it the way they thought it should be packed. But I wanted to add double wrap to the top of it. But then again, at nine o'clock at night, I'm exhausted having waited most of the day for them to get there.
And then they didn't leave until twelve forty-five at night. So, they were four hours late in getting there even though there is rain in the desert where it hits in this one spot which could back them up for a while. The drivers and the people that packed my stuff were great. But it was total chaos at that time of night. And I was not happy. And then, when I got my stuff, I saw the chip on my mirrored table which is the one thing I kept stressing from the time I hired them. It's insignificant to someone else but I only had that table less than two years so it was fairly new. And I love that table. Then when I was cleaning my bedroom today, I noticed that there was a gouge in the footboard of my bed. But I never reported that to them because I can have that fixed until then. But all the lamps and shades I packed separately were all in pristine condition.
But I'm not happy with the way the move turned out now. I should have refused them because there was not enough room on the truck. They should have had a backup information prior to this for the truckers, like if they ever have this happen, don't pack the next person. Give them the opportunity to take the next truck, if they can. And I would have waited. I could have called the owner of the house I rented and could have stayed another week or two if I had to.
I'm disappointed in the whole process. I also told them at the beginning that I'll move my stuff into a storage unit. But I found out that the apartment I'm moving into was ready way before I saw it. So I immediately called AVL back. And that was a week to ten days when they were still out on the road. And I said to the girls at AVL to make sure she told the movers that I have my apartment and that that was the new address. The trucker called me then saying he didn't have the new address and that he was still coming to the storage unit.
There's also a separate drop to my son's house of some items I was giving him. And the storage unit was only two minutes from my son's house. So, he thought he was going there and I told him no repeatedly and that I gave them the address of where he's coming from. But I called as soon as I got my keys in my hand. I knew I was going to be able to move in and take the apartment sooner than we ever thought.
That alone is really serious. I felt like they weren't really paying attention. It's my stuff and my move. Especially when I paid a couple of thousand dollars more than what I was originally told. The people that I didn't hire were on target with the direct amount of how much it would weigh. I took this company and they were totally wrong from the start to finish, practically. So, they got paid but I wasn't happy.
And I don't know what the outcome will be with my mirrored table. There was only one person that would come out to look at it. Nobody fixes those tables. Because they know once they fix one part, they could wind up smashing or cracking another piece. That's the trim. And being that it's the top of the table that needs to come off and be re-done, they could wind up cracking all the trim around the edges of that top. And there was only one person who looked look at it anyway. That was my experience. I'm unhappy with this whole thing. Because no one was listening.
Resolution Update 11/28/2016: Move was handled efficiently and responsibly. Questions asked answered, about packing any specialty items. This is to let potential customers to allay there fears about moving long distance. All came out OK.

Sales associate was excellent. Very prompt, professional and helpful. Move coordinator/customer service did not send information promised in a timely manner and did not return phone calls or emails prior to the move date. After calling to say they would be there in a half hour, movers arrived over an hour late (citing stopping for gas and getting lost), and had to be continually monitored to keep working (often found them talking in the truck). Did not seem to take much care with items, walls, door frames, etc. Paint chipped, walls, ceilings and door frames scratched.
Packing supplies (cardboard and 6 rolls of tape), empty energy drink can and a backpack were left behind at old address. I asked movers to follow me to new address to make sure they got there, but they left without me. Found them sitting in the housing plan using phones. On the way to new address, they stopped following me, so I turned around and found them at a gas station. They said they were stopping to use the restroom, but both used bathroom at the new address when they arrived as well.
The stop also added additional time to the move. Again, I had to monitor to keep them working to unload or else they would stop and talk. Overall, I felt that time was wasted, and having to pay by the hour, it was frustrating to see. The movers were nice, but more prompt, professional, efficient, careful and conscious movers would have made the move more timely and less stressful. Thank you.

Pam and I googled, looked on Yelp, and cross checked a lot of different shippers. The original moving coordinator was Angie, she was super helpful, very available, did her best to help me get the best rate, and gave me her personal cellphone number if I had any questions. She made that really super stressful situation much, much easier.
Plus, their moving consultant was really fantastic, and my experience with her was flawless. The moving crew were a couple of guys. One of the old guys who was leading the move was really sweet older gentleman, and knew what he was doing. It was pouring rain that day, but the crew did their best to not have that interrupt their work. Both of them were great guys.
The shipment was delayed by a week, and in that time, a lot of mold had grown on a lot of things that were important to me from my childhood and things that belonged in our family. So, a lot of the things had to be destroyed. I was given a settlement, but it was pennies on the dollar which felt unfair. So, that was a turnoff for me. The biggest strike against the company is that I didn't feel fairly compensated given a guaranteed delivery date and that passed by. I would recommend and then tell the people about the delay, despite the guaranteed delivery date, and also the damage to my personal items and let people make their own decision.

I did an in-state move. American Van Lines had good ratings and a fair number of ratings when I did a Google search. It was a good interaction with the moving coordinator but there are some things that could’ve gone better. He wasn’t clear on the dates and that caused some anxiety, but it all got worked out and wasn’t a big deal in the end. However, nobody came to give an assessment of the move ahead of time and the bigger problem was that it was extremely underbid. I had more stuff than they anticipated so it took a lot longer than anticipated.
The moving crew worked hard and although they were good, they made it seem like I was trying to hide something whenever I talked with the guys on the phone. They said that I didn’t tell them that I had so much stuff. There was no kitchen on the moving itinerary so that was never marked. I told them that I didn’t tell them I didn’t have a kitchen and that I certainly didn’t hide that from them. I have a two-bedroom apartment so of course, I have a kitchen. All things being equal, it was a fine move. We ended up coming to some agreement based on the time. However, there was a sticker shock at the end when they said it was $5,000 and I was quoted $3,000. The 50% increase was tough. It would have been beneficial to have somebody come and look at the stuff if there was any question.

After 35 minutes the system terminated the call and I tried twice again with the same result. I then called the Florida number: this time I was given a wait time of one minute after which I was given a wait time approximately every minute of again one minute! This went on for about 10 minutes until I was again hung up on. After multiple tries I gave up. Make no mistake this is a horrible way to treat your customers! It is terribly frustrating. Your service was excellent outside of this really regrettable communications system. This cannot be that hard to correct! I hope you do.

This company is absolutely terrible. They're a nightmare to work with and become so difficult to get in contact with after you submit the initial down payment. I moved fairly last minute from North Carolina to California and was pleased when they told me they could pick my things up a few days after I called. I had no problems with the pickup. The movers weren't very professional, but they got the job done and had my one-bedroom apartment loaded in their truck in about 2 hours. I did all the packing and they just loaded boxes and wrapped furniture.
I had a delivery window from October 6-October 28. I received about 5 calls from American Van Lines either telling me they didn't have a date yet, or that they estimated the delivery to be closer to the end of the window but didn't know when, or that they had a date, but not a time. They finally scheduled the delivery for October 27 from 9-11am.
Whoever is in headquarters in Florida who deals with scheduling and payments only seems to calls right before the end of their workday and they never answer phones during the workday when I call, so if I miss a call because I'm at work, I have to call them back numerous times the next day. I attempted to contact them about a credit card payment, but didn't hear back from them. Right before they closed, they left a message saying to call them back first thing in the morning. They informed me that they opened at 5am west coast time and I should call then so that the credit card payment for my delivery could be made. I set an alarm and called and nobody picked up. As usual. I didn't hear back until 9:30am east coast time and the same guy that left the message told me he just got in.
He sent me the form for the credit card payment and I asked why AVL was charging an extra $370. He then tells me, after putting me on hold numerous times over a 30 minute conversation, that it's because they have to rent a U-Haul. They claim dispatch looked at the location and that there's nowhere for their trailer to park outside of my apartment complex. They also claim to charge extra because there are stairs.
I had originally given them the nearby drop off location of a family member's house since I was still trying to figure out my housing situation. This house has ample parking for a tractor trailer and no stairs. A good week and a half to two weeks before drop-off, I updated the drop off address on file to my new apartment address. They told me multiple times that there were not going to be any additional charges because it was still within the 50 mile radius. I questioned again if there were extra charges because my apartment is a fourth story walk up and was told "no" multiple times. I brought all this up to the man I was speaking to and he said he would contact dispatch and get back to me with information on whether they needed a uhaul and with a more specific time. Never received a call.
Finally at about 10:30 am, they told me that they're running late and changed my delivery window to 12pm-2pm. I called right before 1 to see if the time frame was still valid and they said yes. They also asked if there were places around the apartment complex to park a tractor trailer and I said yes. At 12:20, they called and said they had gone ahead and rented a uhaul anyways and were currently driving around looking for somewhere to park and transfer my belongings from the tractor trailer to the uhaul. Didn't hear from them again within the 12-2pm window. They finally gave me a call at 2:20pm and told me they were 15 minutes out.
Around 2:45pm, they called and said they were outside. I went to meet them and walked the perimeter to find them. They called back and informed me they were at the wrong address 30 minutes away. This was after having verified my address every time I was contacted by AVL and having talked to corporate this morning and having them not believe me when I said the address was associated with an apartment. They asked multiple times and even talked down to me asking "are you sure there isn't a number or a letter on your door?". I'm aware of what my address is. I gave the right address and told them that the number preceding the street name was outside my door. They still seemed skeptical, but I'm sure this address mistake was not an oversight on my part.
They finally showed up at 3:45pm and wouldn't open the back of the truck until I gave them $370 cash. We asked for a receipt immediately and they dismissed us, stating it would be in a later receipt. They moved everything up, but failed to assemble any of the furniture that needed assembly. They rushed off to get to another job and at that point, I didn't trust the movers to assemble my furniture anyways. I overheard them on the phone just before 4pm, giving another customer a window of delivery between 4-6pm. They brought up a box that didn't belong to me and didn't believe me when I said it wasn't mine. They reeked of smoke, which is now clinging to my furniture. They also made me feel incredibly uncomfortable and unsafe. Im honestly incredibly shocked nothing was broken.
The Uhaul that was rented was much larger than what was needed for my things. There was an entire other shipment in the uhaul and there's no justification for $250.08 for the shuttle charge. My husband and I both missed a full day of work. We spent all day waiting for them and I had to pay an extra $370 just to get my stuff which already took three weeks to be shipped across the country. I want to know where things went wrong, why there is such a severe lack of communication within the company and with me, why I wasn't informed earlier of the additional charges. Do yourself a favor and don't consider using American Van Lines if you have a move, especially a cross country move. What a nightmare.
Tory, I am sorry you feel your experience with our company was terrible. According to my notes and your own admission, your dissatisfaction started when you were asked to pay an additional $370 to complete your delivery.
Please understand, your original delivery address was to one story home with easy access by a tractor trailer. Even though you state that you gave us a new delivery address 2 weeks before your delivery, we didn't have your new address in our computer. According to our notes, we received the new address on delivery day. Your new address required a smaller truck to make delivery. We had to move your items from our tractor trailer to the smaller truck so we can fit into your apartment complex. This is called a "shuttle truck charge". In addition, your new home was on the 4th floor and required our movers to move everything up 4 flight of stairs. The $370 was the additional cost to perform these two new tasks. We would have delivered you between 9 am and 11 am if we didn't have to go to a new address and also transfer everything to a smaller truck.
I want to also point out that we picked you up on time and delivered you within your delivery dates, without any damage to your furniture.
This is in no way an excuse, but rather an explanation of our facts. Since your review, we have been in communication with you and reached a reasonable resolution. Thank you for your business, and I hope our efforts have made this experience a little better for you.

The moving crew of American Van Lines was good and professional. There were also no issues with the moving coordinator and they were able to accommodate all my requests, too. The only issue that I have identified was they haven't informed me of the time that they were to deliver. They said after I give the confirmation day, from there it will take a week. But fortunately, I got it in two days.

The American Van Lines coordinator I spoke with was very thorough. The moving crew was very efficient, and there were no big surprises. The only slight problem I had was that the company subcontracts a lot of workers with their own trucks, and their truck had a little bit of a roof leak in it, so it got some of our boxes wet, but there was no damage. It would have been helpful if the company inspects or double checks their subcontractors' gear.

I called AVL and their price seemed reasonable. We dealt with the moving consultant on the phone and working with them was fine. Plus, the moving coordinator was great. They put my stuff into storage between moves. However, I paid for climate control storage and I don't think that's what I got. My furniture was in climate control storage, but I don't think the rest of my things were there. All of my spices were solid like they've been baked in a 400 degree oven for nine months. A lot of my plastic kitchen things fell apart, even my washer and dryer which were white were yellowed. By the time I realized it, too much time had gone by. I got completely screwed on that.
Hi Evelyn,
I am sorry you are disappointed in the storage services you received from our company. All of your items were stored together. As you know, we completely wrap and protect all of your items while they are in our storage. It is odd that your spices, plastics, and washer and dryer suffered damage. You were delivered four months ago, why didn't you tell us? Even though your time has run out to file a claim, we will be happy to allow you o still file a claim for these items. We will work with you to investigate why this happened. If we are at fault, we will resolve your claim fairly. Thank you for your business, we hope to turn this negative experience around and keep you as our customer.

Another representative gave me updates on a weekly basis while my things were in transit from Florida to California. Lastly, delivery to my new place was not possible using their big 50 feet rig, they were accommodating by transferring my things to a smaller truck and delivering on the original date, even if it was 7 pm when they arrived. The second move was a third party because I had a short lead time and they didn't have their own guys available. The team they sent did a good job and I didn't love the moving guy's attitude although they did a good job. My complaint was followed up thoroughly and in a very professional manner. This is my last move and since my husband died, was very upset to leave home), very professional, hired the right people. They also very polite, kind and respectful to all of my belongings. Patrick is an asset to your company.
One more thing, I want you to know I called several moving companies, you were not the cheapest, but the reason I hired you was because Scott knew what a dry sink was, apparently the only one in your industries that knew and that impressed me... I went to different companies and got quotes. One of the companies came very low so I was about to go with them, but then I talked to AVL and they came up with a good price. But things changed.
They found out that we have a little bit more than that in the inventory so they charged me a lot of money for it. I wanted to negotiate with them for a better deal if they can charge me less, and they did but they only dropped like $400 which I thought it was not totally fair. There were also several items missing and broken, and we're going to file a claim. Their staff was nice but we had a lot of misunderstanding in the process.

A robbery occurred at the house that I lived in before, and I couldn't live there anymore and needed to move. Price-wise, American Van Lines was within a few dollars of the estimates that I got from other transport companies. I got three estimates and they were all within $20 to $30 of each other. So, that lets customers know that there's no screwing around or they might not be getting another price, and nobody is taking advantage of them and charging them double because they don't know any better.
The American Van Lines people were also the first ones to come see me and, everything else being equal, I give extra credit to the first company that responds to my request, for being early in responding, and that adds some weight to my decision about who to use. I had listed my house for sale and it sold much quicker than I thought it was going to. I didn't have a place and was staying with a friend. American Van Lines had a promotion of one month free storage and I had them store my stuff for a couple of months.
The moving coordinator, a nice young man, did a good job and was professional. A young lady named Barbara interfaced with me the most and she was diligent about calling me every week. She asked, "Have you found a place to live? Do you know where you want your things delivered? When would you like me to call you back?" She was good at it and did a great job. I told her, "Call me every three weeks if you want because I don't think anything is gonna happen between now and next week."
The moving crew also did a great job during my move. They were extremely nice, didn't mess around, really got to it, and got everything wrapped up. Nothing got damaged and everything was done well. Although the move from the house took longer than the delivery of my stuff to the apartment, both happened similarly. I was surprised that the guys that moved me from the house turned out to be the same ones that delivered my things to the apartment. They were really good and reassembled everything that they had to take apart. If any of my friends ask, I would definitely recommend that they use American Van Lines. All in all, my move went smoothly.

I had an antique furniture that had to be moved from West Virginia to Texas. I had called an antique company to see if they knew any kind of a moving people that would handle that and they mentioned American Van Lines. My mother is 98 years and we had to move here to an assisted care place. We're moving my great grandmother's bed that was built in 1850 and this was some of the family heirlooms that she was using but could no longer fit into her place. My sister in West Virginia, where my mom was, had to take care of that end of the move and be there when they came to pick up the furniture. When the things arrived, I was the one that to handle that. There were some problems with my sister when she was told that they would be there. She had one phone call that did not leave a name or a number on her cellphone. She could tell somebody had called and figured it might be them but she never knew if that was them or not.
When I tried to call the agent that was handling all these, I couldn't contact him and I kept leaving messages for him. He only had his voicemail and it was full. Then, she gets a call that they are showing up at the storage shed. She didn't have any information that that's when they were coming. She was told that she would get a two days notice when that would happen and she did not. They called here instead of calling there, although all the paperwork said she was handling that end of it and I was handling this end of it. So it was messed up on that end.
Then, I was told it would be within 30 days when it would be delivered here and it was going to be taken down to Atlanta or somewhere. On the 29th day, I finally called. I tried a couple of times to call the agent and just got a full voicemail and said they couldn't leave messages. And finally, I called someone else and said I can't leave messages for that agent. It's almost the end of the 30th day. Is my stuff about to come or not? The communication part was not very well on both sides of that.
Then, he told me it would be delayed. They also told me it would come in on Monday between 9:00 and 11:00. I had a board meeting for a woman's group scheduled that day somewhere else so I've scheduled it to my house so that I'd be here for them and nobody showed up. At two o'clock that afternoon, the movers showed up with the furniture and I told them, "Well, I was told you were coming between 9:00 and 11:00." And they said, "Oh. They don't have a clue when we're coming. They just give you all some kind of a time frame." So those parts of it were not successful but my furniture arrived in great shape so I was really pleased with that. Then the two gentlemen that had the truck and brought it in and put it together for me. They did a very good job. So the final picture of the whole thing turned out okay.
Hi Jane,
I am glad that in the end, everything arrived in great shape and that the move was very good. I am sorry that our communication wasn't good. I did a Google search to see what are the top 10 van lines available and found American Van Lines to be one of the top. Their moving coordinator gave me a good and competitive rate and I surely appreciate him doing that. Towards the end of the time, they were saying that they own the truck, and don’t do a third-party deliveries and that’s how they’re different from all the other companies because other companies sublet the transaction to some third-party truck owners.
But then, eventually, what I got was not an American Van Line truck. Instead, I got again a third-party truck. I wasn’t very happy about that part of my experience. Plus, they charged me $300 for packing that wasn’t required and they didn’t let me know beforehand that they would be charging me that much. I would have taken a few things out of those packing because there were a few things that didn’t even worth the cost of the packaging for that product. That was disappointing.
On a positive note, though, I didn’t have any major delays or major damages. I had some damages but the cost of the putting and getting the money back is way more than what the damages cost, so we thought of not applying for those. And, my five-year old vacuum cleaner wasn’t packed well, it was the Dyson cleaner that was broken. On the whole, it was only one or two things that got damaged compared to my friend’s experience where there were a lot of issues with it. I also noticed that it is a bit weird that the driver was charging us for delivering the objects upstairs before we even thought of unpacking. He said that we have to give him the money before he even put things down. We ended up only putting 10% of our boxes upstairs, but he took $150, so we gave them the money because he did do a hard work of putting everything inside.
But those are very small things compared to what I have heard about the horror stories of the movers. So on a comparative basis, the delivery was well done. Although I spent a little bit more money than expected, the service was great, and everything was done upfront. They were very truthful, always communicated where things were, and the guy came within two days, which was great, so we didn’t have to wait weeks for our things to be delivered. I was happy with the entire end-to-end service.

Our experiences with American Van Lines were terrific. Everything was positive, and we were very pleased with the people we met. The moving crew was there early and were very good. However, on the way back, when they were actually delivering the furniture, the poor driver was by himself. My husband and I would just take off the wrappings but he basically did most of it himself. It all went well, but it was tough on him. But other than that, they stuck with their price, didn't play any game, and were good to deal with.

The moving crew did well however from the beginning there were seven different answers to the same question. And the more people I talked to, I always got a different answer. It was confusing for a while. I felt that I was doing all the legwork to find out what was going on with my delivery. The truth of it is, they never do any of it. If I knew that, I wouldn't have to do any of it. And I don’t wanna blame the girl who initially came up because she really did a good job. And once I got hooked up with her, it was a phenomenal experience with American Van Lines. It was absolutely great.

I relocated my family and I used American Van Lines. Their reps were fine, but on the day of the move, it went a little slow. The crew took a lot of breaks and it was a very slow-going day. They were there for a long time. Everything was okay until we got our goods delivered. I have moved quite a few times and I experienced more damage to goods with that move than any other ever.

I did some research online to try to find someone to help. After talking to other moving companies, the rep from American Van Lines was the easiest to talk to and he made it easier for me than I thought it would be. The move was a house to house loading and unloading. The moving people were very helpful and quick. It was 100 degrees outside and they worked their butts off. I would definitely recommend American Van Lines. My parents will be moving across state so I recommended them.

Talking with the moving coordinator went well. We got along with the moving crew, too. They were very congenial and did a good job. A rather concerning time though, was when American Van Lines had us moving in at a different date than when we were scheduled for. There was a period before we would be able to move into our new house, and that date was confused for some reason. We eventually had to get them to rearrange some things and move us in on the date that we initially scheduled for. We also had some breakage involved with the move and we're in the process of putting together a claim for that.
Hi William,
We are happy you had a good move except for the scheduling issue. I am glad we ultimately worked out the schedule to your satisfaction. Once we receive your claim, we will handle it quickly.

We had a problem though since the glass door was broken but we didn’t notice it ‘til later, as far as it closing after that. Updated on 05/25/2020: I conducted a move back in 2016 and this company still hasn't paid me the reimbursement for my damages. The movers were not on time, damaged a large portion of my furniture and damaged my house while packing. Every time I called AVL, they straight up lied on when the movers would show up. In ANY settlement, they force you to sign a gag order from posting reviews. I paid over $700 for insurance and in order to get paid, they force you to sign documentation that says you can't write a review. DO NOT TRUST THEM. PLEASE READ ABOUT MOVERS FRAUD BEFORE SIGNING UP WITH AVL OR ANY OTHER COMPANY. They still owe me $1200. I chose not to sign the documentation because it seems really sketchy to have a customer pay for insurance and the only way they will pay you back is if you keep your mouth shut.
Original Review: For my review, I am including the email below that I sent to American Van Lines Quality Assurance. I have not received one phone call in response to my email. I am also including my estimate and pictures of items that were left an unpacked. Again the movers were nice but VERY upset that the company did not set the right expectations with them on my move.
I am sending this email because I am very upset about my move so far. I had a window of 10/10-10/12 for PACKING and MOVING all my furniture and the movers did not show up until 1:30 PM today 10/12 to move my home. They only sent 2 people. They did not have enough supplies to pack my things properly, and they seemed to feel as if your company did not properly inform them about my home.
It is now 5 AM and I have been up all night with the movers. They DO NOT have enough boxes to properly pack my artwork, my large mirrors (which I specified in the estimate) and other items. I was VERY clear with Joseph about my artwork/mirrors, etc. I only have a 1500 sq ft home and am leaving a large couch, dining room table, full-size bed, and other small items in the house, so I wasn't moving everything. It was totally reasonable to pack one day, move the next.
I signed a credit card waiver for FVP upon arrival due to the fact I was very nervous about how this move was going to go based on all the back and forth with customer service/dispatch. First, I spoke with Joseph and went through every room in my house to make sure I accounted for every item. Second, I had to secure 2 DC parking permits for the truck since we had a three-day window. This cost me $110 and I was ASSURED by your customer support that both packing and moving would happen within that 3-day window. In fact I was told that the movers would come one day to pack and then the next day to move all my furniture.
Second, I received a call on Saturday 10/8 in which the customer service person left a message informing me that my move would be on 10/10 or 10/11. I called and left several messages because I was concerned that the message did not indicate that the team was coming to pack, which was very key to the move. I spoke with a customer service agent on Monday morning that indicated that there was still a chance the movers would show up later in the day and if not on Tuesday morning.
I called later in the day on Monday to find out that the movers would be at my house on Tuesday 10/11 sometime between 10/12. The movers never showed or called. At 12:30 on 10/11 I called customer support again and they informed me that the movers were now coming on 10/12. They were going to pick up the extra truck they needed to drive in DC at 8 AM and then they would be on their way over. I expressed several times (including to a supervisor) that I was concerned about the constant changes and that they still had to PACK and MOVE within one day. I was assured that this wouldn't be an issue. If I had known that only 2 guys were going to show, I would have insisted that it was very unrealistic to be able to accomplish my estimate in this short amount of time.
In addition to the above, it is now 5:22 AM, these guys are having to leave some of my artwork and other items they were supposed to pack because they did not have enough supplies, and I have a busted lamp on my new fan and deep scratches in my walls due to their carelessness. I wanted to let the guys know that I would be glad to help as I could. I went and got more boxes and rods for the wardrobe for them at UHAUL, brought back coffee, offered water and food.
The drivers were nice but it is clear there was a major communication between you and them about the type of house I had, the DC permits etc. They seemed really burnt out and tired and I feel awful that they are still here moving. I do not know where the breakdown is, but they seemed upset as well. I also told the movers about my situation with the parking permits, the fact that I had cleaning women coming at 8AM (I'm still hoping they will be finished by then) and that had I known they for sure couldn't get the job done, I could have called the cleaning company before they closed.
I also spoke to a supervisor about my drop off in Austin, and I am still VERY concerned about the timing and communication issues. I have signed 2 power of attorney documents for my nephew Lane ** and Chris **. I have left the storage unit address and contact information for both Chris and Lane. I am super concerned that the latter half of my move turns 180 degrees from where it is now. To be up at 5:30 am with no sleep, with proposals due at my work tomorrow and preparing for an overseas trip on Saturday morning, I am tired, very emotional, and extremely stressed out. Not to mention all my stuff didn't get on the truck. I really need to understand how this is going to be resolved, including the damage in my house. Please see attached pictures. Thank you. I appreciate your attention on this matter.

Their people are extremely professional, punctual, came to our house and checked it all out to see what has to be moved. We were moving from two houses into one house so we had two trucks and both of them were amazing. The first day that they were supposed to move us, the deal fell through in the middle of the move and my realtor had ordered to stop the move. I was freaking out - the most stressful day of my life. I retired early and built a house 1,500 miles north. I'm moving from Western Florida to Indiana, and got American Van Lines for my move. The moving coordinator and the consultant were outstanding and superb. Compared to another moving coordinator I had before, it was a night and day difference. The consultant also spelled everything out in black and white. There was nothing to guess. If I had a question, he said, "Let me get right back to you on that," and he did.
As for the leader of the moving crew, there's no dust settling underneath that gentleman's feet. He was also outstanding, introduced me to his whole team, let me know that I had wood floors where I was at and I had wood floors where I was going to, and made sure everything was protected. I was at my previous place for 36 years, so I don't move often, but if I ever had to move again or recommend a transport company, I would definitely recommend them for sure.

I was looking for a company for my move. I already contacted a couple and had them give me an estimate, but I wasn't pleased with the way they are doing their business. I didn't understand how people from the other businesses could give you an estimate over the phone of what you had. I've heard worst stories about these companies shipping your merchandise to another place. They take it off the truck and put it on to another. By the time they get to you, they'll hold you a hostage until you pay some more money.
The third one I contacted was American Van Lines and from the get-go on the phone, they were very positive about things and I like the way they conducted their business. Their rep was excellent and told me exactly everything. He went to the house and in crawl spaces. He took an inventory of everything and gave me a price at the end. This guy from AVL guaranteed me that what was picked up would be delivered within the week in the same truck. The guys that loaded it on and packed the stuff away were the same guys that delivered it. They packed the stuff and made sure that everything was secured. It took almost the whole day, but they worked constantly. They also helped me put everything in my storage unit. I couldn't ask for anything better.

We were retiring and moving closer to our kids. I went online and looked up “best moving”. We priced several moving companies and American Van Lines came within a couple hundred dollars and they could keep our things overnight which was one of our deciding factors. I contacted the moving consultant and she said that the move would be between 10:00 and 1:00. When I had told them that we couldn’t go before 11:30, she said that they’d tell the moving company. But while we’re in the middle of the closing, they called at 10 o’clock and said they were in front of our house which meant that they sat there for an hour and a half which was unfortunate and not necessary because I had given them the information. So, I wasn’t real impressed with the moving coordinator.
Still, everything else happened all right. The crew was awesome. They put things together, asked us where we wanted them, and helped us out in any way they could. They ripped one of our chairs but I never reported that. Also when we didn’t call on the right line, the guy we contacted said we had to call another line. He had no personality and I was disappointed with him. But they answered our questions. We had another mover move some of our stuff to a storage unit and then American Van Lines came and picked it up. They did a great job and when we unpacked things, the only thing that was broken was what we put in the storage unit so we assume it was broken the first time, not by American Van Lines, hence we were disappointed in our first movers and very happy that we went with American Van Lines the second time.

I didn't do the insurance because the guy that came to my home said that it's mediocre so I shouldn't do it. They only gave $66 for the drawer even if cost almost $5,000. The guy that took my drawer went down the stairs and just pushed my drawer. I don't have another one here and with $66, I can't buy anything. That was crazy and I'm really sad about that.
Hi Patricia,
I am sorry we damaged your drawer. Since you didn't purchase full value coverage on your move, you received less than replacement cost. I would recommend calling a furniture repair company. They may be able to fix it for a reasonable price.

I had a wonderful experience with this moving service - they communicated VERY well and everything went as smoothly as it could have. None of my furniture was damaged in the move and nothing was missing - everything showed up exactly as it was when I saw it loaded up on the truck. The whole move only took a week too, which is amazing as I went from one coast (Tampa, FL) to the other (Seattle, WA). Our driver, Rhett, and our mover, Roger, were very friendly and our moving rep, Natahlie, was super helpful as well. My estimate was spot on except for two hiccups of needing a shuttle to go between my apartments and the tractor-trailer, since the big truck couldn't fit in either of my neighborhoods. I was made aware of the possibility of that happening in advance so it wasn't anything fishy. Overall, using this moving service really took a lot of stress off my mind and to me, that's priceless.
