They have a sneaky subscription model. Like every other complaint here, I only wanted to use their service once, but they secretly signed me up for a subscription plan, or as they put it to justify not notifying me via email every month, an installment payment plan for a package. When I went to their website, I couldn't even find a way to see if I had a subscription. The only sign that I had one was a monthly charge on my bank statement which I only noticed a few months later. Yes, they promptly issued me a refund, but I can imagine based on the 100s of resolved complaints on the BBB website, there are probably 1000s of people who are unwittingly paying for a 'subscription' they never signed up for. If you had a similar experience, please join me in giving a low star review.

Maria was amazing, she was very patient with me even in my frustrations. She handled me with grace and care. 10 out of 10. She guided me on the process and I needed that, telling me where the fees came from and how she could assist in seeing where I went wrong. She also was able to help me locate a duplicate account that I didn't know I had and that helped resolve my fees.

This service will charge you without explicitly stating what you have subscribed for. Disappointed by that. It was one dollar for the report, but somehow I don't even know I got charged 9+ biweekly. I did not have emails saying what happened, what I have subscribed, just started getting spams of sms.

I feel like I was scammed. In most areas of the country, public records are freely accessible. Searching for county records I stumbled upon this site and fell for the charges. I learned from that experience and cancelled my account only to find that this company had charges my credit card for “reports” after my cancellation. Intent on contacting the company, I engaged in a live chat with a representative and he politely responded to my concerns and reversed the charges after my cancellation date.

Margaret - Customer Support was very helpful. The report's value to a homeowner is questionable. Also, trying to view the report locked up my laptop. I was not able to stop whatever was happening, presumably Acrobat processing the PDF, and had to restart my laptop to regain control.

Terrible. Beware. I think their positive reviews are fake, possibly paid for. I had a terrible experience with chat customer support. Just endlessly repeating herself/himself. Then a person on an actual customer service phone call get pretty darn snarky telling me how credit card statements work. And that my refund that was allegedly sent and should process in 3 to 5 days is now going to take 60 days. Hahahaha! Because of the way banks work. I told her I would be sure to alert Bank of America to their imperfect system of processing refunds when I am on the phone disputing their charge. Do not believe many or most of the positive reviews you see.

I was doing a search on my county website for information about getting a copy of my marriage license. I downloaded a form to fill out and was charged $20. I've never downloaded a copy and rarely do searches on the county website so I was shocked at this charge. I contacted chat, explained my situation and was refunded the $20 fee.

So I had an issue where they charged me 3 times in less than 1 month. So the person helping me was quick to answer my questions close my account and refund my month. They did a great job. I noticed that what I thought I signed up for was a 1 time background check instead it became a payment of a $1 charge plus a total of 3 separate $9.95 charges on my bank account. They fixed it by closing my account and refunding my month so yeah that's fixed now.

I tried to use this site to get a copy of my divorce decree. Not only did I not receive my "$1" report, but my cc was charged twice in the following 2 weeks for $9.95 each time. When I called customer Service for an explanation, they just cancelled my "subscription". No refunds or explanations. This site was not helpful and charged me $20 for nothing.

Watch out, they say it’s a five-dollar initial charge for the review, I wasn’t even able to pull my records, and still been getting charged 20 a month for the last 5 months, 100 dollars down the drain. Deceptive at best.

I was able to access my public information super fast, however, I didn’t realize it would charge you separately for the reports and PDF files. (This could be an oversight on my part as I was in a hurry to access my records.) Be careful when purchasing a report. They end up selling you a package but it doesn't look like that when you're first purchasing. Then they start charging you monthly. Other than that everything was ok.

I hesitated to select the star rating. I feel like I was ripped off, but they refunded me without any struggle. I submitted a public record request for $1, which I received via email. Not only was I charged the $1, but I received a second charge for $20. I contacted support via the link provided in the email and communicated with Gary via chat. He said the $20 charge was for the report package and asked if he should close my account so no further charges would ensue. I told him I was unaware of the $20 report charge and asked for a refund. I purchased a PDF vehicle report by VIN. It was all the information I needed and more. Very helpful. However, I authorized an $8 payment. The website confirmed I would be charged $8. I authorized the payment for $8. I was later charged an additional $20 for some package I purchased. No confirmation about that charge. Must have been hidden in the small print somewhere. Customer service was quick to close my account to stop any future payments, no refund was offered or issued.

I was trying to determine my property line. This was not resolved by this service. But it did provide some interesting history about my home. I don't know why or how, but I later discovered I was getting charged $40 a month in two separate payments, which I only discovered by looking at my credit card statements. However: the online chat service was terrific! It made it VERY easy to show my statements and get refunded very simply with no fuss. So support service is excellent.

We were looking for my wife's marriage license from her first marriage. The website says that they provide records for $5. Once we were searching there were several steps where we were given the impression that there would be additional charges for taking next steps in our search. These were small charges, but they kept adding up, and we were willing to pay them to get the record we were searching for. Finally, we got a list of a bunch of people who weren't my wife, but had similar names. That was the end.
There was a chat option, so we went on that and were told that a "research specialist" would email us the info in 24 hours. That didn't happen, so I emailed customer support. The next day we got an email from them suggesting we contact our local county clerk for the marriage license. Problem is, her first marriage was in a completely different state and about 40 years ago. I replied this to the email, and haven't heard back since. It feels like a complete scam.

My experience with my customer service rep was great. I had no trouble achieving what I set out to do, which was cancel any supposed recurring charges that seemed to be hitting my bank account. When I asked for email confirmation he said no problem, and I did receive that email confirmation. However, I do have an issue with the account management capabilities of the website because there are none. It's all nebulous. I had no idea by ordering my PDF public record that I would be automatically set up for some recurring payment. I'm sure there was a pop-up window with terms and conditions saying as such, but something like that shouldn't be hidden in a length terms and conditions sign-off. It should be painfully obvious that by purchasing I am committing to a subscription of sorts.

When signing up with PublicRecords.us I did not realize I would be charged bi-weekly. I only needed the access for a one-time report. The customer service rep was very helpful in cancelling my account today to alleviate future charges. Thank you.

The service was great, and I reviewed a public record. I paid for that service, but I somehow also got signed up for a recurring service that I didn't want. I should have checked my credit card records in a more timely matter, but when I found out I had been charged a recurring fee, I thought I was out of luck. But I entered an online chat with Peter, and he canceled the service and refunded all the unintended charges! I was very pleased that I wasn't out that money for a service I only used once.

AI bot support was so fast and thorough. Took 1 minute to solve my problem and issue a refund. Wow. Very surprised at the efficiency even though I had no idea my subscription was automatic and was charged monthly. Problem solved.

First off, great service. I was able to acquire all information needed. Secondly, I noticed there were additional charges on my card, so I reached out to customer service via the live agent and it was fixed in 2 mins flat. I literally timed it, KATHERINE, did an amazing job! Great customer service team!

The agent was quick and helpful! The information that I received regarding the record really didn’t help me. So I was charged, but I can’t use the information. I was looking for information that I need for a case and it wasn’t there, just their criminal record, but I need civil and circuit court information.

Responses from customer support are immediate and very helpful. Richard was able to provide my account information and provide a refund. It would be helpful for customers to be able to access their own account information, via a portal or account page.
