My husband and I have belonged to their membership program for over 10 years. We both had prepaid for massages. I had 6 and ask them to freeze my account as I has moved from the area and could only use them when I would be in town. I was told I had 6 months to use them and my account would be frozen till Mar of 2019: I was informed today I could not use one without unfreezing my account and having them charge me for another prepaid. I asked to have my money refunded since I had moved out of the area 3 hours away from the nearest Massage Envy. I was then told they didn’t give refunds for services not rendered. My husband finally gave up arguing and he too had prepays. What a great scam for this company. Beware of their policy.

Massage Envy Victor NY - I had an appointment 2 months ago and left work early for it. I even had a confirming phone call the day before. I showed up 15 minutes early and was told that they called and left a message but the therapist was not available. I showed them my phone and no messages or missed phone calls. I even had an email but the emails do not tell you when your appointment is and I called and talked to the manager (knew in the last 6 months) and I’ve been a member for 2 1/2 years with never a problem until this new manager started.
I schedule my appointments a rolling 3 months out for 90 minute sessions. So I called the manager and complained about the blank emails and my last appointment that was never cancelled. I told him, "Two errors and the third time you’re out." He said he would personally take care of it. So yesterday I received a phone call confirming my appointment for 2 and I said, "No. It’s at 4." The lady said, "Strange. I have you scheduled at 2 and 4 for 90 minute appointments," and she said she will cancel the two and, "I will see you tomorrow at 4."
So I get there and to no surprise I’m not down. They looked it up and saw both were cancelled. I said, "Look for my appointment in Nov 3rd at 2." Not there. I said, "I’m done here, cancel my membership." The manager then said, "Maybe it was a misunderstanding yesterday and she thought you cancelled both." I said, "No. She said I’ll see you tomorrow at 4." He said, "Sir you’re getting aggressive. Maybe we should cancel your membership," and asked me to fill out a form. Imagine, me being blamed twice as the customer and now I had to fill out a form. I asked for the owner's number and he said it is posted on the wall for Jason. I called it four times and it is a disconnected number. He assured me that he would call me and that I would not be charged. Great massages but terrible front desk under this manager.

During my massage the male therapist kept putting his genitals on my hand or arm. And he was aroused. Then he leaned over my entire body with his body completely touching mine. I stopped the session, went out to ask for the manager. Spoke to the manager and asst and they took a written statement. They gave me a brochure about providing a safe environment yet they did not provide one. No apology, no promise to investigate further. I was called by the area manager and told my story again. Again, I don't believe anything was done. This is the Massage Envy in Webster TX.

I’m so frustrated about the service I got from them! When I call for appointment they ask for my debit card immediately which I gave because I thought I will be happy and come back for more massage service but before I end the conversation with the girl name Mimi she informed me that I will get 50% charge if the will cancel on the day of the service! I know that’s their policy. They gave me cold tea to drink while waiting even though I ask for hot tea! Gave me a guy therapist which I got shock because they don't even ask me when I set an appointment if I prefer a girl therapist!
I have no choice because I cannot come back another time to wait for a girl therapist. They ask me to log to their tablet and answer this questions what area of my concerns in my body so I choose. But the massage is just my back not the whole body which I expect. The facility is hot, dirty and not relaxing! I spend $70 for nothing including tip. Never come back and never recommended to my friends!!!

I suffer intractable tension/migraines and have been getting massage therapy over 15 yrs from dozens of therapists. KC at the Massage Envy on the Promenade in D’Iberville, MS has a medical background and is very knowledgeable in A&P. I have benefited from his expertise. The receptionists are friendly and helpful when scheduling and the facility is clean and comfortable.

I cannot recommend Massage Envy, and I have made three visits to two different locations. They are more interested in up-selling than meeting your massage needs. $10 more for "Boost" this or "Boost" that, or aromatherapy, etc. When I went to their website, I could not see the price of the massage I wanted to schedule until the end of question process. When I called to ask where I could find a price list on the website, the person said "corporate wants people to call the salon so prices can be given over the phone for that specific location." Right...wink, wink. Only thing is, if you actually schedule an appointment online, it shows you the price for that very location. Sooo...why can't prices be displayed BEFORE you schedule your appointment? Sounds a bit sketchy.
Each time I have been to Massage Envy (three visits to two different locations), I feel like a head of cattle. The staff are not unfriendly, they just move you along. With a smile, of course. I recommend that, if you are in the Greenville, SC area, you schedule your massage at a salon that will actually take care of YOU, not their bottom line.
The Spa at West End https://westendspa.com/. WOW! They truly treat you like royalty, and they make sure you do not feel rushed. There is a steam room you can enjoy after your massage, and they tell you to stay as long as you like. And the sitting area is very private and nice. I've been there twice, and have not been disappointed. True professionals. AND, they are actually $5 less for a 60-minute than Massage Envy. I've been to one or two other places in downtown Greenville for a massage, and one on the outskirts of town. They have all been better than Massage Envy, but the Spa at West End https://westendspa.com/ is the best I've experienced. Prices are pretty comparable wherever you choose to go.

If I could give this location less than one I would... Bad management in terms of customer service and communication skills needed for successful business practices. Made an appointment, spoke with a representative confirming appointment and that my appointment was to use past massages granted by a lawsuit against the company awarded back to customers. After explaining everything to her, she informed me “That it was fine and just bring the paper work With you.” Arrive at my appointment after driving 40 min while 8 and 1/2 months pregnant, I fill out their consent forms and explain everything again. Not one min into the explanation a manager walks out and takes over the conversation. She says these expired. I told her I wasn’t aware, I received a phone call from this location stating I could use 75% of my past messages and that they didn’t expire according to the representative I spoke with.
I explained that I had called to verify I could use them two days before my appointment. She continues to argue with me about the terms, saying, "I can’t just give you 6 messages." She tries to look up my past account and says, "I can’t find you." I said, "I had just logged onto my account within the past two days." Then she discovered my name was spelled incorrectly in their computer system. I understand miscommunication and policy I was in the Air Force for 14 years but accept the blame and don’t push responsibility off on another party. I would have understood if she said “I’m sorry for the miscommunication and paperwork errors but I can’t fix it.” Ok but don’t blame the customer or argue about the situation just for the sake of it.

I have been going round and round with Massage Envy for the second time. My mom and I both had wellness agreements with them and I finally got mine resolved and now I am battling for her. Due to a recent stroke, I am now her POA and we have about had it! Now, despite proof of the cancellation in January of 2017, they want me to submit medical records. Are you kidding me?!?! If I hadn't submitted her cancellation half a dozen times, I could understand the need to have that documentation. However, it was cancelled almost two years ago AND they kept charging her until this past May! This place is ridiculous.

I registered online for a massage and was going to use a gift card but unfortunately I had to postpone my appointment the evening prior. Unfortunately their scammy website does not allow for either online cancellation or rebooking! This is all part of their strategy of course because when you call them they also don't pick up the phone. I called again the next morning. Still no answer so I wrote an email to cancel then they responded that the cancellation window is 24 hrs so they have to charge me 50%.
I insisted that they made it very hard for me to cancel and that I was a first timer using a gift card but they didn't care and showed no flexibility whatsoever. This is absolutely unheard of! No Dr. Office, PT or other practice does not allow postponement or cancellation prior to the appointment. Beware of this! Personally, I am returning my gift card to them, they can keep it! And I will never set my feet there due to their terrible service and scammy marketing approach.

It seems like it's going to be such a good deal at Massage Envy, but once you get mired in the quicksand of all their administrative procedures, you might never get back out of it. In my particular case, the membership I signed onto automatically debits the cost of a massage every month with the promise you can always use them even if you miss going a month or two. Of course, that's not true. There are details that ensure you can never actually use your massages without always being behind, creating an indentured servitude situation.
Additionally, they have cancelled appointments without any notice. The staff has always been incredibly rude. The massage therapists are clearly overworked and unenthusiastic. It's really a bad deal. I can only strongly recommend that you look into Massage Envy reviews before you commit. At this point, I can only hope to recoup my trapped $180 from this company and never return.

The management talks to you in a very patronizing tone and is inflexible--whatever happened to customer satisfaction??? They ask for feedback--but when given you're countered with excuses, blamed for misunderstanding and given empty, callous, passive responses. Please don't enroll in this service. You've been warned!

So disappointed that I could not get a refund on a gift card I purchased the day before. There is no indication, anywhere, that there are no refunds. When I spoke with management, they said that the gift card specifies that there are no refunds but you do not receive the gift card until AFTER the purchase. I asked, “if the moment after I purchased this gift card I read the card and found that it’s non refundable and requested a refund right then, would you have given me one?” Of course they said, “No.” If the card receipt I sign or ANY notification was visible that this is the case, that would no one thing. But I don’t see any reason not to offer refunds if no services have been rendered. I’m most concerned that I was not informed that the gift cards were non-refundable before purchase. The sales associate mentioned everything else in their bid to upscale me to the highest available package but failed to mention that.

I reside in Florida. However my home office is in California. Prior to Hurricane Irma I had 5 paid in advance unused visits. Before the storm hit I cancelled all future visits. Recovery took about 6 months to resume my normal routines. I called back to make my usual appointments only to be told due to no shows I no longer have visits. I am furious. This is a bunch of bull. No one from either office can provide a true total of how they came up with their findings. I'm not finished with them yet. I refuse to allow them to charge me the full price of 5 visits for 2 no shows. The Westley Chapel office is a ripoff.

DON'T SIGN UP FOR THIS SERVICE!!! This company has done nothing but stress me out since I signed the contract. My initial service was a gift from a friend. That went well. So afterward they talked me into signing up for a year contract. After signing the contract I asked to make an appointment that would be included in my contract fees. They made the appointment telling me explicitly that there would be no charge other than the upgrade of service that I requested. I arrived to my next appointment and was told there was a typo on the contract and I needed to sign a new one, but it changed nothing (I did ask if it would change my billing). Thinking that was fine I signed the contract. Before I did I questioned that they had changed the date on the contract beginning and ending. I inquired and was again reassured it changed nothing.
So I had my service done and was only told afterward that because the contract date changed I had no choice but to pay for the entire service that day... and additionally pay the contract fee when due. I wasn't happy of course, but I did what I was told I had to. I made a follow up appointment. That appointment was canceled and I was never notified. They continued of course to draft from my account. I spoke with 3 different people there on separate occasions before I was able to reach an actual manager. He said I signed a contract and there was no disputing and regardless of whether I wanted to return after all this hassle that they would continue to draft the fee. I contacted my bank and am now disputing the fee and canceling my debit card to ensure they cannot access my account for future fees. This is a shady corporation and they deserve every bad review they receive.

When I arrived to my appt at 3 pm the front desk staff told me they moved my appt from 3 pm to 2:30 pm and I was 30 minutes late. Then I was told they tried calling me but no one answered and they also didn't leave me a voice mail. Sooo... let me get this straight... Massage Envy changed my appt time without notifying the customer. I disagreed with the front desk staff and went into the massage room expecting 60 minutes which is what I booked but I was wrong. The massage was over 15 minutes and they billed me $85. I could have caused a big scene, the staff is poorly managed and not smart business professionals. I wrote a email to the owner and still no response. I will never return to Massage Envy Blossom Hill San Jose, CA location.

I made the mistake of signing up for this membership and have lost tons of money as a result. Once you sign up it is extremely difficult to get an appointment. You can't get out of membership without jumping through hoops. In the meantime you get stuck with unused massages, which you lose unless you pay "hold fees". In addition, my elderly mother had a stroke and as her caretaker I now have no free time to use a massage. Then I broke 4 ribs and my dr told me not to get a massage as 1) I can't lie on stomach, and 2) should avoid possibility of moving or further injuring ribs.
Went into store to explain this and the employees literally ignore you. Can't get the manager to call me back. I literally can't give away my massages. The recipient would have to pay a guest fee and "tip" on a ridiculously marked up price. And if you find someone who actually wants the massages, you can only give them 1, so they really make it hard for you. I am going to have to bite the bullet and forfeit about $1000 worth of massages. Deeply regret ever walking into this store!

I booked a 90 minute facial over the phone. I was told it would be $68. When I arrived for the appointment today, I was told it would be $83. When I said I had been told $68 when I made the appointment, I was told it would be $68 if I joined today and I could think about that while I had my facial. My facial was good with Sky and he recommended some products which I planned to buy. When I went to pay for the appointment, I was told it was $143. This was very shocking and I asked about the $68 I had been promised. At this point, that was not an option, membership or no membership. After some discussion, I paid $83, left without the products I had intended to buy and will never return.

Had a 90 minute massage with Laszlo today and it was very good. After my massage I went to the receptionist to pay for the additional 30 minutes. The receptionist asked how my massage was and I said "very good". I paid cash for the 30 minutes and gave the receptionist another $20 and asked for $15 back. I told the receptionist the $5 was Laszlo's tip. The receptionist asked how my massage was. I had told him already that it was very good. I said again "it was very good". He then questioned my tip amount because I said my massage was very good. I couldn't believe what he had said. I was speechless. I gave this conversation a great deal of thought on my drive home.
Once home I called and asked for the manager and I was passed along to Regina (asst. mgr.) and explained what had happened. She said that the receptionist had overstepped and that is a conversation only for management. I checked my contract and did not see any wording regarding tips. Laszlo gave me a great massage, I paid for the service, but I don't believe a large tip should be expected. ME should pay their massage therapists better and not expect their customers to shell out an additional $20 a massage. The receptionist who confronted me regarding my tip reversed all the good Laszlo did during my massage.

Their policies are not customer focused. They promote 1 hour massages; which are actually 50 minutes. They take 10 minutes off your service to account for 'changing clothes', which actually takes a minute or two. They encourage members to Tip for 1-hour however. They CHARGE $10 to GIFT a massage to a potential new customer. And they limit gifting. Why would you want to deter trial by new folks by charging your long-time customers?
Turnover is high which suggests it's not a great company to work for. If you want to freeze your account (out of the country) they DON'T allow you to use the services you've accrued while the account is frozen. Would have liked to burn up some of the ten I have accrued before I leave the US. That's ultimately the reason I'm quitting. They'll probably be glad to see me go because I signed up with they only charged $39/month! Be sure to read all the fine print if you think about signing up. All that being said, I've had a few good therapists over the years. It's possible to get great treatment, but the company could care less about customer service.

I am LIVID with Massage Envy on Niagara Falls Blvd, Tonawanda, NY 14150. I have an appointment every 3 weeks. I went in tonight for my SCHEDULED 6:00 p.m. appointment, only to be told that I cancelled it the last time I was there and rescheduled it for this Thursday. I DID NOT CANCEL MY APPOINTMENT, YET THEY CANNOT GIVE ME THE NAME OF THE EMPLOYEE WHO CANCELLED IT. How DARE they speak to me in the condescending way I was just spoken to by the Assistant Manager. And to make matters even worse, when I asked for a Manager, she informed me AGAIN that she was the Assistant Manager. I have spent thousands of dollars at this location over the past few years, I book my appointments a year in advance for every three weeks, but their arrogance has me rethinking this entire situation.
At $60.00 per hour for the massage, plus a $15.00 tip, I'm spending $75.00 every three weeks, and they can just give someone else my appointment??? I even showed her my datebook, which clearly shows I had an appointment tonight at 6:00 p.m. I have had problems with the attitude of management at this location already (they do NOT ever call you back or follow up - they just do not care if a customer is unhappy), and tonight's attitude tops all. They obviously gave my appointment to someone else. Well, I may give my business to someone else. I'm sure there are many massage therapists who would love to earn $75.00 every three weeks.

When I stated I never wanted to use their services again he didn't care. He is in customer service and should care. I wonder how many other customers left because of this location's staff. The front staff, clearly does not know what they are doing and are unprofessional. The manager doesn't know what he is doing. Months will go by and they will continue to extract their monthly fee without your knowledge. You will pay them for NO SERVICE PROVIDED until you take action or until the HSA account is depleted!! Beware! You can get a massage anywhere. The important thing is the Customer Service you receive and Massage Envy has the worse Customer Service. They are thieves and will steal your money. Their tactic is to lock you into contracts of 6 months or longer. If you cancel the contract that you rightfully fulfilled by paying every month, paying in full, but don't use your massage every month to save it for future months, they then give you a time limit of something like 30-60 days after you end your contract to use them or you lose them. This is a bad way of doing business and just tells you that they don't retain clients. I lost 2 of the 6 massages paying around $65 per month after ending my contract because I couldn't use them in that 60 day window. It makes no sense to me why a massage place would do this, I cancelled because I still planned on going, just not every month. I will never go back there. Don't give Massage Envy your business.

I have been a ME customer for over seven years at the 1208-D W Broad St, Falls Church, VA 22046 location. Because I occasionally travel overseas for weeks or months at a time, I "freeze" my account using their "Freeze" status. All automatic billing should cease. In the three times that I used their nonsense "freeze" feature, they continued to charge my card every single month. I spent hours talking with clueless Massage Envy associates that promised that it would be different next month -- it never was. They still charged my account over and over, despite the confirmation of a "freeze." Because the last freeze (October of 2017) was apparently never processed (I have a photocopy of the signed form), they CONTINUED to try and charge the card on file. My bank changed from Mastercard to VISA that month, and I had not updated my card with Massage Envy as I was traveling and I thought it was "frozen."
Upon my return, I stopped by the Massage Envy to try and schedule a massage. The associate told me that I had no sessions left when I was expecting to hear "thirteen." I explained the situation to the associate (account had been frozen, etc.), and she said that "we can't find any record of that. Your card was declined when we tried to charge your monthly membership fee." Of course it was declined! It is a totally different card, and the Massage Envy associates didn't "freeze" my account.
I was not very happy, to say the least, knowing that hundreds of dollars were thrown away because of their mistakes. Of course none of them had the power to do anything, except sign people up and schedule appointments. They asked me if I would like the manager to call me, and I said "Yes... Please" and left my business card. No manager ever called... In fact, I have not heard from them again. I can still log on to the Massage Envy portal that looks like it was created in the late 1990's, and that has similar functionality. It's a total joke -- all of it.
I would stay far, far away from this Massage Envy or any other one. As a successful serial entrepreneur and investor, it is stunning to me that they would flippantly screw over a long time (7+ years?!) customer over a trivial administrative error that employees should have the ability to resolve quickly. Instead, their actions show that they could care less about having me as a customer. I would give them a zero or negative rating if it was possible with your system. Massage Envy is a total farce, and I would set up some Google alerts to see when all of the different class action lawsuits get filed for deceptive marketing practices, fraud, etc. Go anywhere else!

After canceling one Acct, I tried to have all unused sessions transferred to my acct since I was the one paying for them. Was told, "No, couldn’t do that". ME continued to charge my card for the closed account. When I realized this, I canceled my account as well as my daughter’s. My daughter texted me this morning indicating my bank notified her there was a charge of $55 from ME and wanted to know if it was legit. She said, "NO". I have been charged 4 times so far and have used only 1 massage which I gifted to my husband. Not only was the "hour" long massage only 50 min long, it was a horrible experience for my husband and he refuses to go back.
Also, my disabled daughter's bus schedule changed so now I have to pick her up after school and would have to now drive 45+ minutes just to get to a Massage Envy location. THEY WILL NOT CANCEL MY MEMBERSHIP. I didn't ask for a refund for the 3 months that were already charged just to cancel the rest since I can't get there. Instead they intend to take $720 from me for 1 massage. I'm the wife of a disabled veteran and mother of a disabled child. I don't have extra money to waste. I am very disappointed in these people. I HIGHLY recommend against this place. Please please please go somewhere else. Listen to ALL the people leaving reviews here. Imagine both my surprise and shock when I tried to schedule a massage and learned that the Town Square Massage Envy site had closed its doors without providing membership notification. Both Chelsea and Theressa at Corporate Headquarters in Scottsdale, AZ have failed to resolve the issue of the $300.00 plus dollars owed me in pre-paid credit. Massage Envy and I entered a contract. I did not break it. Massage Envy did and I will continue to explore all avenues for a positive resolution. I have lost all confidence in Massage Envy's ability to make customer satisfaction top on their priority list.

Was given a paid subscription to Massage Envy in Spartanburg from my children for 6 visits. Really had no problem with any of the massages until this last visit on Sept 29, 2017. Chrissy the girl doing my massage was horrible. This girl needs to go back to school. This was the worst massage I have ever had anywhere ever. She did not know anything at all about giving a massage. All she did was rub some lotion on my back. No massage at all. Rub the top of my shoulders and rub the same spot on my neck so long I thought she was going to make it sore.
Lifted the sheet no higher than my kneecaps on the back of my legs and rubbed lotion on my calves and my heels. Rubbed lotion on the tops of my arms and the palm of my hands. When she went to do the tops of my legs, lifted the sheet to my shins and rubbed lotion on my shins and some on the heel of my feet. She never got off her little stool. It wasn't worth my time going all the way over there and my 8 year old granddaughter could have done a better job than this girl. The worst ever. Don't waste your time.

I had been given a gift certificate for a free massage by a relative who works for Massage Envy in another state. Upon arriving for my appointment, I presented my certificate. The receptionist said they were going to do this and that. I said "Whatever the gift certificate covers". The massage therapist, a man, was horrible. Very lackluster massage. He talked the entire time about a pyramid scheme he thought I should get involved with. I immediately told him no, and to please stop talking about it. He continued, to the point that I decided to leave no tip.
When leaving I was presented with a bill for $120! I reminded them of the gift certificate but was told it was good for only $40 off! So this ridiculous massage was supposed to cost $160? Way, way, way over the going rate here. My relative who gave me the certificate was outraged. Needless to say, I'll never go back and have convinced others to go to other massage therapists. These people in Miamisburg are scam artists.

April, the manager of this location has completely resolved this situation. Though not a fan of the company's overall policy, she's been very helpful. Be sure you know - fully - what you're getting into and if it goes south pray you find an understanding, compassionate soul that's willing to help.

I stopped in to get a massage a couple weeks ago, ended up getting a facial as well at a new store on Germantown Road, Memphis, TN. Couldn't get out of bed due to pain for nearly a week following massage and got an eye infection along with acne breakout (I'm 51 and way past that) immediately following treatment. Suspect skin allergy to Murad products... Was verbally conned into signing their contract enticed by discounted services for the day. I say 'conned' because the young girl who says she's actually manager of the location did not disclose the fact that their contracts can NOT be canceled before 12 months are over.
To the contrary, she told me that I would only need to personally 'come in' to the location to cancel which I did yesterday, now that I'm able to get around again, at which time the girl (manager) told me I had to have cancelled within 3 days of signing their lengthy contract. I was stunned to say the least. When I told her that she didn't explain that on the front end she basically called me a liar and told me I'd signed and initialed their contract. She's correct only in that I did indeed sign and initialize the paperwork. My downfall was trusting that she truthfully disclosed the contract terms in her explanation; she did not. DO NOT EVER do business with these crooks. Worst management staff in existence and shoddy business ethics!

My experience yesterday at Massage Envy was a disaster. The massage therapist was not pleasant with her overall attitude. I wanted deep tissue massage (what I normally would get) and she did more of a deep surface rub and I wound up this morning with massive bruising on my back and glutes. I was unable to sleep and unable to sit with my back touching anything. I've never experienced anything like it. I am extremely dissatisfied.

Caution when you cancel!!! I was a member at the Warren, NJ location for just over 2 years and was usually happy with their services. This year I have had some medical issues arise so I needed to cancel my membership. There is no information online as to how to go about or what is required short. Since mobility is a real issue for me now I called and learned that you must cancel at the location you signed your agreement with. I was able to locate the email address for my location as well as the Home Office. On June 5th I emailed my intent to cancel to my location and cc'd the Home Office. I received a response with the required form needed. I emailed the completed form on June 9th again to my location and cc'd the Home Office. I received no reply that there was any issue. On July 11th I received a phone call that "My payment had been processed and would I like to schedule an appointment".
I stated that I had canceled my membership and had emailed the form back on June 9th. They immediately refunded my payment. I thought that would be the end of it. Wrong! Just to make sure, I checked my credit card statement and sure enough there was a charge on August 11th!!!! I tried calling but was only able to leave a message as they were renovating the location. I did not receive a call back that they got my message and were correcting the problems. So I drove down and walked in. Granted I was not in the best of moods but I feel I had a right to be a little upset since 2 1/2 months later they were still billing my credit card... Illegally. I was in no way rude nor was I even loud.
I was told that only the manager could cancel an account and they were not there today. I attempted to say when I had sent in the form, but the girl behind the counter apparently didn't want to hear it as she began speaking over me "Mam, I can see all that information in my computer". When I pointed out she didn't need to be pissy she claimed she wasn't. Why would I know what you can see??? You have told me nothing about what information you have. I explained that her most current statement and tone were uncalled for as I was trying to provide her with copies of the email string and the form for her manager so they could finally do their job. Miraculously she was able to cancel my account.
You can bet that I will be checking my credit card statement every month from now on to ensure they aren't hitting my card again. If I see a September payment, I will have to take this to the next level. For anyone looking to cancel you should be able to find your location's store number online, "Massage Envy (city, state) store number". Their email address should be "clinic(store number)@massageenvy.com" and the home office is info@massageenvy.com. Good luck and pay attention to your credit card!!!

Her 4 year old sister could of done better. I have been in the beauty industry and my ex boyfriend was a therapist. I got many massages and the one Massage Envy gave me was a joke. All I received was a oil bath and he would not rub me at all, I got off his table and told him I won't get any effects from his massage. What kind of massage are they performing. I was considering a membership to Massage Envy. It is basically a legal contract so I wanted to get a copy to review it before signing. They don't provide the details on their web page so the contract is the only place you can see them. They would not provide a copy until I signed up. The only option they offered was to come in and read it there. You should be able to review any legal document ahead of time and even allow your lawyer to review it if you would like. Their reasons for not providing it aren't valid. It appears they don't really want consumers to fully understand what they are getting into. After doing some research I can see why there are so many complaints regarding their practices and decide NOT to pursue a membership.

I have had some decent massages from Massage Envy, but with that said, I have had some horrible ones as well. One, in particular, was reported, and the people behind the desk acted as though it was funny. They did not offer to have it replaced or have another therapist provide the service. The concept, in general, is horrible. It keeps the clients paying up the "rear end" for life. I absolutely DESPISE the way they do business, and there should be more class-action lawsuits on them. If a person has a life change that does not allow them to avail themselves of the services, it is just "too damned bad". They continue to rip the clients-off. I only hope and pray that they will go out of business or that some other entities file another successful "class-action" lawsuit.
The other thing I despise about Massage Envy is the fact that if you have a facial, they make you use their own supplies, Murad. I personally do not care for Murad. It does nothing for me or my skin. The customers are not allowed to bring in their own preferred brand of skin care to use. I absolutely dislike the way Massage Envy does business. If there is another class action lawsuit action, please let me know.

I am a member of a wonderful Massage Envy in Rockville, MD. However, I have always been able to schedule appointments at other Massage Envy's throughout the U.S. as I used to travel a lot for work. This past week I was able to schedule an appointment closer to work at the Gaithersburg Crown location. The therapist was very helpful and suggested I return for one more appointment so she could continue the work she had started. I made an appointment for a return while in the store - but had to call to change that appointment (per their policy - 24 hours in advance).
When I tried to reschedule, the woman told me they could not do so without a credit card number. I asked why and she said it was in case I didn't show up. I told her I thought they used the credits I have on file (over 10 hours of massages) and she said they do - but just in case I didn't have any left she needed it. This was a 1 time appointment. I don't understand and the woman I talked to told me I'd have to call back to speak to a manager. I gave up after 2 attempts where I was left on hold for over 10 to 15 minutes. It is with great disappointment that I write this review. Last Friday, 3/31/17, I went into the Golden Valley Massage Envy clinic after mailing a package at the post office. I wanted to know if they might have any 90 minute openings with one of the two therapists I have seen. They told me that one might have a 120 minute opening on Sunday, but they would have to give me a call back to confirm that the massage therapist could do 120 minutes.
I called back today (4/3/17) because I never received a callback. My call was not focused on the fact that I never received a callback, but whether or not there were any future openings. I have been a member at the Golden Valley location for many years. I was beyond appalled at the woman who I initially spoke to. She implied that I was lying about going into the location on 3/31/17. She said all the therapists had been booked for a long time and it didn't make sense what I was saying. I asked to speak to the manager. The woman hung up on me.
I called back. I was on hold for 15 minutes. I hung up and called back again. I asked to speak to the manager. The woman who identified herself as the manager was extremely hostile and once again implied that I was fabricating a story about stopping into the clinic at 3/31/17. I told her that the customer service she was exhibiting was absolutely unacceptable. She began to yell at me. When I asked her for her name she refused to give it to me. I asked four times before she gave it to me -- Molly.
I am absolutely appalled and disgusted with this incredibly hostile customer service. I have paid my dues as well as both of my daughters' dues for many years. It was absolutely unacceptable. If it hadn't been for the fact that I spoke to two different people today who were equally rude and hostile I would have chalked it up to someone having a bad day. I cannot in all good consciousness recommend the Golden Valley.
I called back tonight at 8:10 and the woman told me to call back on April 17th when Annie would be back in town. I suggested that I was paying monthly fees (I've paid for four people for more than one year) and that Annie might have the responsibility for calling me. The woman absolutely agreed and apologized for my experience. That would be an example of customer service. It's unfortunate that it take a formal complaint to get someone's attention.

What I can't understand is charging a client for a visit that they didn't schedule or get a confirmation call about. I booked an appointment for last week. I wrote it down in my calendar.
I checked the Massage Envy app that day, and noted that it was not listed in the app and that I hadn't received a call about that appointment so I did not go to that appointment. They apparently had the appointment listed as today. They did not call the day before to confirm (even though it says they did) and the appointment was not listed in the app. They told me that the app is not their responsibility even though it has their name and logo and all my other appointments have showed up in the app, and that I should "write down" my appointments in the future.

On December 23rd, I went to ME for my monthly relaxation routine. This session I used the Woodmore location in Maryland, where I initially started my subscription. On this particular day, I was more than dissatisfied, to say the least. I was greeted by a masseuse that I made clear was one that I had requested not to be assigned to again due to our initial encounter. I spoke to the manager at the time about the situation. It took them 30 minutes to reassign me another masseuse, and this was not until I had demanded that my 1 hour get some resolve. There was more of a hush about the situation than haste. I completed the 30 minute, which was not the initial time, with another masseuse.
After that un-relaxed experience, I spoke to the manager and explained that I wanted to file a complaint and request that my account be pulled from their location and be reassigned to another, College Park, as I refused to be tied to this location anymore. The manager at the time was very slow to produce the necessary paperwork and decided to get another manager involved. My request didn't change however as I was by now utterly irate.
The second manager checked my file and stated that it was their mishap as they never documented that masseuse on my file and if I still need to be reassigned then she would have me complete the documents and forward it to the department. I filled out the form and requested a copy. They credited me a half hour, to pacify the matter, and then I left, feeling that the action would be complete. In February, I called ME College Park to gift a session to my daughter, who wanted the experience, which would determine her sign up, only to be told by a rep at College Park that my account is still assigned to Woodmore Town Center. Needless to say I went off.
When I called there, another manager was present and I had to update her on the situation. She asked me to hold and when she returned, she informed me that not only did they not fulfill the request, but the form that I had filled out somehow got missing, and a note was left stating that they needed more information from me regarding contact. Now I was on fire, as all the information that they needed was just a click away as no information change had been made since 2013. I informed the manager that I will call the assigned department to that location about the matter.
The following day the manager that I spoke to on December 23rd, sent me an email which started a paper trail of information, which I still have saved. She apologized and ranted about how she recently requested update on the request. This is now February. She is saying this about an action that should have been taken care of in December. Not only did she do that, she explained she wasn't sure how the document got missing, but she sent me a completed form with the reason being that I requested relocation, no explanation as to why, which was on the initial document.
She also added that if I didn't get a chance to sign she will still move forward with the request. I responded by telling her that I will not sign the document as that didn't state the true reason I wished a relocation. I spoke to Sara ** the ME affairs coordinator who requested my copy to complete the transaction after I spoke to her in length about all that was taking place. She said she would get in touch with Shelby, who was the manager.
I forwarded all that I needed to. She replied to me once, stating that she apologized now for the delay and as soon as that is cleared up she would reply. It is now March 14, 2017; about 12 weeks after the incident and 4 weeks since Sara and I made contact. I sent an email last Monday, explaining that I now wish to cancel my monthly with ME based on the lengthy unresolved matter and my feeling as a consumer and no one, especially Sara has tried to reach out nor any update has been made to my account. This is far beyond acceptable and I need to know what can be done regarding this matter.

I just don't understand how they charge people. If your massage is 85$ it should be 85$ whether or not you're paying in cash or you're using one of your prepaid month that you spent 60$ on. If you use your prepaid massage they want to charge you for 2 pre-paid massage that adds up to 120$. Or if you want to use 1 of your prepaid massage then they want to charge you another 45$. I know I'm not the smartest person but I can add, if something is 85$ why would I pay 120$ or 105$ for something they have listed for 85.
So if we recap. A hot stone is 85$, a prepaid massage is 60$ so if I want a hot stone I should only owe you 25! When I went to school 60+25= 85. I don't know where they get off charging 105 up to 120 for a 85$ massage just because you want to use your prepaid massage that they already charged you for. What a RIPOFF.

If I could give a zero star rating, I would. Let me say, that I canceled my membership because I wasn't using the services as often as I was paying for them. I had 4.5 remaining to use and scheduled a facial. I was called shortly after to reschedule due to a training the esthetician was attending. No sweat, I rescheduled for the next day instead. Then, the morning of the appointment, I was called and informed the esthetician no longer worked there. OK, things happen. I rescheduled for the following weekend. I was never given a confirmation call, mind you, but I showed up for my appointment (rescheduled twice now) to find out, I was again scheduled with the same esthetician that no longer worked there. What imbecile reschedules an appointment for a client, with an esthetician they KNOW no longer works there?
So, they tell me they can rebook my appointment for later the same day - "No I'm sorry, this is your mistake. I'm not coming back after I've already rearranged my day for this." Then they try to offer me a comped service. "I'm sorry, you can see I already have 4.5 that I haven't used, what makes you think I need another one?" At this point, I no longer want to do business with Massage Envy and ask for my services that I have remaining, to be refunded. I paid for these services and they can't competently schedule me, then I wanted my money back for them. The person says they can't refund my money but again tried to give me another service. NEVER will I go back. I am filing a BBB complaint. They need smarter people to work there. Someone who doesn't reschedule your appointment with someone they just told you no longer works there.

How does one describe the nature of this company in Myrtle Beach? You sign a contract, the contract is a crock of crap. There is a high turnover rate with both the front desk and the massage therapist themselves. Is right of the bat is a revelation that owner does not know what he/she is doing. Any time there is a high turnover rate, one must question the nature of this location/owner/company as a whole. It is such a complete joke. For example when someone you like works on you they are usually gone within six months or less. It seems the good employees are either frustrated out the door or the owner fires them. It appears they would rather hold on to mediocre help, instead of quality help for whatever reason or reasons. Perhaps this act has something to do with controlling the subpar help.
However, me and my wife will no longer be seeking their services. Not to mention the male therapist we use to go to was exceptional, whatever happened to him, remains unknown. However, we tried other male therapists at this location and they were lousy. The pressure was light and they did not pay attention to detail. It appears the owner of this location does not care and maybe should sell the franchise right to someone else. The fact of the matter remains, do not ever become a member of this company and these Myrtle Beach locations are a complete and serious joke. Use caution before joining. And test the therapist before joining, if they are good they usually will not last.

I said "wait a minute. I should still have 1 more month of service" and she told me "no because you used all yours up with the extra times you took." "I thought that was covered since I paid $20 each time extra." "No that was taken from each month." Also I never used anything in January so technically I still have a month, not all used up. Unacceptable. I have had several issues with the Kingstowne facility. First one was a bad odor in the facility on the day of a massage. They did reimburse me with a free session for that month. Another time the room was so cold the masseuse could barely warm her hands. They gave me another free session. Today my 2 PM massage was cancelled by a phone call at 11 am!!! There was no backup masseuse. People have busy lives and I told them that I had rescheduled my entire weekend around the appointment. Not having a backup is stupid and hardly worth a subscription. How can I be sure there won't be another issue? I resent having to "subscribe" to a facility that is obviously not ready for prime time. The concept of a subscription is in itself stupid and only benefits the corporation. Other facilities don't expect you to "join"... they are doing fine. I will most likely be taking this into consideration going forward.

Finding time to get a massage from a place you don't care for is hard. Going in to cancel your membership is just as hard. After not using the membership since July of 2015, I was relieved when the card they had on file apparently expired and they were no longer able to charge. Magically this month, they were able to charge the last 5 months at $299. This was obviously an unexpected charge and not easy to swallow. Upon calling the Westminster, CO store, I was told that the system automatically runs the card daily. If find this to be a lie as there was definitely enough money in the account to pay at some point over the last 5 months. They won't give refunds as they say it is impossible, bs. Steer clear of Massage Envy and make sure you follow their outdated procedure of canceling in person!

Massage Envy lost two or three new customers, earned a POOR rating from us and I am recommending to everyone we know that they should not only steer clear of ME as a business, but to definitely NOT buy a gift certificate. You won't get what you pay for with ME. My granddaughter and I booked a one hour massage and foot spa the last week of September for my daughter's birthday the first week of October. ME's prices increased October 1st.
When my daughter called to book her massage and foot spa, ME would not honor what we purchased in September because of a price increase that happened AFTER we purchased her gift certificate package. Neither the location purchased or the location where she wanted to book would honor the purchase because of corporate ME policies. Instead of granting my daughter the massage and foot spa as paid for, ME deducted the foot massage from her package because of the price increase, even though her gift certificate had not expired.
To add insult to injury, they charged her $0.01 more because of the price increase! A PENNY! Lastly, she booked the appointment weeks in advance for 4:30. The day of the appointment, ME had a cancellation and called to advance her appointment time to 4 p.m. to which she agreed to at the time of the call, but with 4:30 still in her mind, she got busy and when she remembered the time change and realized she'd be late, she called and learned that if she rescheduled back to her original time of 4:30, ME would have charged her for the time change because it was less than 24 hours notice - even though it was ME that rescheduled her within a few hours.
My daughter rushed to get there and was ten minutes late. ME not only deducted the ten minutes from her one hour massage, but deducted an extra five for the time it took to check her in - So - for the gift of a one hour massage and foot spa, she received a "45" minute massage, No Foot Spa and Owed a Penny! The only reason we gave ME a try was convenience (there's a location close to my daughter's work and home). I will NOT recommend Massage Envy to anyone and NO ONE in our circle of influence will darken the doors of Massage Envy as a result of this poor experience.

I went online to Massage Envy in Fishers, Indiana to schedule a massage after receiving their gift card as a gift for Christmas. I was called by a representative and told my charge would be $65 for a 60 minute appointment. I told the representative the price online was $55. She said it would be $65 if I chose a pedicure without the polish, which is an upcharge. I told her I did not want the upcharge. She then told me my reservation would not be secure without a credit card, which I refused to give over the telephone in this day of credit card theft.
I explained I would be paying by gift card, which she said was fine, but they would not reserve an appointment for me. I shared I do not live in Fishers and did not want to travel 30 minutes to take a chance on not being serviced. An appointment was not reserved for me and I was given no satisfaction, even asking if I could just get a refund for the gift card. I will use the gift card I was given, but I will never return and I will recommend that all of my friends and family not use the services of Massage Envy.

I was very upset and cancelled the appt. I was charged for that appt. If they were late why am I still being charged? I cancelled my membership. The front desk acted like I had no right to be upset and cancel. I was a member for several years, they didn't care that they were losing a client, they wouldn't reinstate my time.

I have belonged to Massage Envy for over 8 years and was going to the one in Cleveland, Ohio, the Chagrin road branch. I was consistently working with a therapist named Eric **. I have had various injuries. One of them being a right shoulder injury that I was rehabbing for a presumed labral tear, and Eric knew about this. I was actually commenting to him that I was happy my shoulder was getting better with rehab. During the massage, he starting massaging my right arm and pulled down on it and on my shoulder causing acute pain. I jumped in pain and he got angry with me. Told me he knew what he was doing, and to go find another therapist. I was pretty shocked, but decided to get the rest of my massage. I even tipped this arrogant therapist.
Since that time, now a month later, I have had bad shoulder pain, have seen doctors, gotten acupuncture, and cannot get back to the improvement I had. He hurt me badly and when the owner called me about it, I explained my position. One month later, the owner has not taken any appreciable action (I asked for a face to face meeting with him and the therapist) and has yet to even talk to the therapist more than a few minutes.
I am a physician, and I have not experienced such an arrogant massage therapist who does not know his physiology. Not only does this therapist NOT know what he is doing, he is arrogant and indignant (I have recently found out that he is known to be arrogant and this obviously makes me feel worse). The owner (Christopher **), although nice on the phone, said he was going to "counsel" Eric ** and let me know the result. One month later he has done nothing (except gave me a couple of facial massages which is a pittance compared to the damage his therapist has created). I strongly recommend NOT going to this Massage Envy, but if you do, NOT going to Eric ** who is known for his arrogance and who physically hurt me without showing an ounce of compunction. Stay away is my advice.

Contract with Massage Envy does not allow for rate increase at the location I have the contract with. They increased rate - charged my credit card without notification (they mailed a notification to the person who recommended them to me apparently- not to me!). My contract clearly stays at the rate that I signed up for. There is no clause that states they can raise the price. They are refusing to continue giving me the contractual rate, telling me I have to go to a far away location in order to continue with my contractual rate, as the location that I have the agreement with "cannot" charge me the now lower rate.
Also they would not refund the charge to my account! They gave me a gift card for Massage envy for the overage and told me I had to use the massage! Which I did and used the gift card for the tip for the Massage Therapist. Then my account was put on hold, until they could figure out how to honor the contract. First they said they would manually charge my credit card each month. Now they are refusing to do that! They are telling me I have to sign a cancellation form and then resign up with another location that is 30 miles away to get my original contract price. They are in breach of our contract. They have no integrity whatsoever; unethical business practices.

I was sold the Massage Envy membership. BIG Mistake!!! It is very difficult to get appointments on the weekends. I made an appointment for a facial and a massage at the Massage Envy in Thornton Colorado for 11/26. My massage was first and my facial was to follow the 60 minute massage. Seven minutes after my appointment was supposed to take place a young woman walks up to me and says "I am sorry but the therapist that was supposed to do your massage is not even on the schedule". I asked what that meant to me - she stated that I would have to reschedule my massage at another time. I said that I did not understand how they could make an appointment with someone not on the schedule. She said that those types of things were out of her control. I told her that was not true, they had complete control of the schedule and they made a mistake. I should not have to pay for their mistake. Basically there was nothing she could do.
GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE. If I no-showed I would be charged. Shouldn't they provide the service for free - since they made the mistake? Interesting they offered nothing in compensation for their mistake. All the people at the front desk gaped at me as I told the alleged manager that I was upset. I had gotten a ride to the business. I could not leave and I was dressed for a massage and facial. I would love to never go back to this HORRIBLE business, but unfortunately they conned me into a membership and I have 10 unused services that I need to use before I can cancel.

Once you sign a contract, you are stuck with paying monthly even if you don't use any of the services. To cancel, you need to be present and pay a month in advance even if you haven't used any of their services. You have to apply to have your account frozen so you don't pay the monthly membership but then you have to pay up to keep your membership before they freeze your account. If you freeze the account, you can't use the services you are entitled to, unless you pay an additional monthly fee. It is a racket. My advice, if you must use Massage Envy you are better off paying regular rates rather than paying for membership. They now owe me 6 sessions and there is no way I can get my money back without having to continue to pay them. Their practices are shadowy if not illegal. Stay away!

On August 28, 2016, I came into Massage Envy in South Reno for a massage using 2 $100 gift certificates (equaling $200). My massage was ok, nothing great. Afterwards there was a new employee who was using false promises to have me sign a contract for massages for a year. When the girl helping her was looking up my gift certificates, she was unable to find the balance or information on one card and stated "Don't worry, we will honor it." She stated this several times. This was after my voicing that the only reason I would even consider a one year of massages contract is because I have the $200 in Gift Certificates given to me by family members. She ASSURED me the $200 would be applied and stated that she noted both cards in my account in the notes and that I didn't even need to keep the cards anymore. (I kept them anyway).
Later when I arrived home I noticed she did not fill in the date that my credit card would be charged each month making this an incomplete contract. I also asked this new employee if the massage on this day was going towards the 12 credits required for the year and was told "yes, absolutely." Fast forward to my next appointment I made. (9/11/16) After the massage, again mediocre. I told the person at the front counter I wanted this to go towards the 12 credits. Meaning I now have 10 left to fulfill my contract. I was verbally told "no, it didn't go towards your contract, but let me change that now for you."
Also, she stated there was no balance on my $100 gift card that was used at the previous appointment when I was told I did have a balance after the first massage was paid for using that card. She then stated that the other card she magically found on this day was used by my sister-in-law in Kentucky who is the giver of the gift card. (SO, WHY WERE THEY UNABLE TO FIND THIS ON THE DAY I SIGNED UP?) I left that day extremely upset at the inconsistencies your employees tell your clients.
Then, I called to set an appointment on 10/23 and spoke to manager named Anna. She looked into my account and stated that I have no massages towards my contract fulfillment at this time. Imagine my frustration as I have been told something different each time I have called or walked through your door. I was told during first visit that I now had 11 massages left on the contract to fulfill. On my second visit I was told I had 10 left to fulfill and now during booking third visit I was told I still have 12 left and that NONE have been used. Each time I have been told "Don't worry we will make notes on your account" only to find the next person can't find anything in the notes and one employee even stating you don't have notes. Horrible experience and very unethical practices.

I have been a member of Massage Envy since 2010. I was fortunate enough to find and keep good therapist over the years. Recently, ME decided to increase their monthly fees to $55 per month. I learned about this increase through word of mouth from one of my girlfriends that also has a membership, not sure why they did not bother notifying me via email or in person especially since I usually get a massage monthly. I went to ME today to update my credit card and take advantage of maintaining the $49.99 rate that was extended to existing customers (although no one from ME told me about this) and was told that the offer to keep the $49.99 expired on October 13, 2016.
When I spoke to someone at ME well in advance of October 13, 2016, about updating my credit card, I was never told that there was an expiration date on keeping the $49.99 for a additional year. Why wouldn't an existing customer agree to keep the lower rate for an additional year? ME should have simply grandfathered everyone in to the $49.99 rate. It looks like more of their tactics to gouge customers and take advantage of people regardless of the longevity of the relationship. ME should be ashamed of themselves!!! They probably had to increase their dues to make up for all of the customers that are leaving them. Needless to say, I cancelled my membership.

Mighty interesting that you can boldly call someone, threaten to send to collections, non-payment. Maybe because the service is the worst? Hmm, well if you look at a person's account and see they have massages on their account that are paid for, that you refuse to allow them to use because you suspended their account. So tell me how do you get to keep my money I paid for unused massages but have the nerve to send me to collections. Can we say absolutely ridiculous! You mean to tell me you get to keep $240 plus try and collect for future never used service for $180. You have got to be joking! I feel that is theft. How do I get paid for not doing any services because I am in the wrong line of work?
You should be ashamed by reading all these reviews your company seems absolutely the worse. Oh another thing, just automatically renewing a membership without checking with your client seems wrong. Especially when you see in their account that they don't use your service on a regular basis. Have you ever thought about a call out a month before renewal? That's called customer service. You may want to look into that. It's not like you're a gym and people use you on a regular basis. I'm just saying. Your fine print may cover you but it doesn't make it right.

I called the franchise she bought this card from to see if she could get a full refund if she brought them back the card and her receipt. No. Not under any circumstances. What kind of business is in such bad shape that they have to hold on to every penny that comes in the door. If she had bought a blanket or sweater she could have returned it. She has no "product" at all, just a piece of plastic. This is not the only scam this company perpetrates. They also short their customers on their massages, starting late and ending early, they don't honor gift cards claiming they've expired when in my state that is illegal, they don't cancel memberships thus ruining the credit of customers and sending their canceled accounts to collections and in one review they even stole a Fitbit. I received a free massage as a gift from my roommate because I have been going through a very difficult time. After I was done, unfortunately, it was easy for the saleswoman Nicole to talk me into a membership. She said I could cancel after the initial period which ended on Sept 14th. I asked her multiple times about this because I was nervous. I never sign up for things like this because I'm always afraid of having a bad experience or being screwed over. I should have listened to my instinct.
I signed up with her telling me I could cancel and she even laughed and said, "No, we're not here to screw people." That should have been a sign for me. Sept 01 my car's engine blew up and I spent everything I could in getting it fixed to get to work. Clearly, this caused a financial burden for me. I already paid the $54.99 on Sept 5. I knew after my car blew up that I would not be able to continue with this because I would be negative in my account. It was get a massage or get my car back so my son could go to school and I could go to work. Am I going to miss work so I can pay my massage service? Of course not. The money was taken out on Sept 5, of course. Sept 15, I called and told them I had to cancel. I will never use my massage and they can just keep that Sept 5th payment of $54.99 because I don't have the energy to fight.
I sent an email and called customer service. I spoke with Cody (a fantastic and wonderful customer service agent!). Shannon (a manager at the actual store) emailed me a cancellation form. I filled it out and sent it back. October 5th, they took ANOTHER $54.99 out of my account and they're saying although I requested it on Sept 24, they didn't reach out to me to send me the cancellation form until Sept 27, and my next payment falls within the 10 day period of processing, therefore, they get another payment and will not refund it. I reached out WAY before that. They got back to me and finally got me a form on Sept 27, I complied with everything, even thanked Cody for doing an awesome job unlike anyone in the actual store, and was assured it would all be cancelled and I wouldn't be charged anything more.
Of course I was charged again. Of course, they refuse to refund. They now have $109.98 from me, and I've never once used their services or had a massage. I have literally paid this company $109.98 for nothing. Literally nothing. Shannon ** works at the store. Stacy ** is the General Manager. On 26 Jul 2016 I talked to ** (one of the managers) at the Massage Envy located at 10 Vista Blvd, Slingerlands, NY (518) 478-0900, in regards to the cancellation of my wife's membership. I asked whom the individual is that can make a decision for this branch? ** stated that the person to talk to is **. I explained to ** that my wife is very timid and often agrees with people who come across as rather forceful, pushy, and extremely persuasive in sales techniques as demonstrated by her, ** staff. I also explained that every couple of months my wife would receive a call from Massage Envy stating that she has a few, then several, unused sessions and when would she like an appointment. Not once did the representative ask why she was no longer scheduling any appointments but rather “When are you going to come in?” You can note the lack of appointments in their schedule.
She has been under the care of a doctor who will gladly send you a letter to verify her condition. I explained to ** what had happened on the last couple of occasions when her staff called my wife. My wife had tried to terminate the membership due to a medical condition but all the Massage Envy would keep doing is ask her “When would be a good time for an appointment?” The phone representative would just continue attempting to get her to agree to schedule an appointment. After being on the phone for while, my wife, in tears, said, "Please, I just want to cancel my membership, what do I have to do." The phone representative FINALLY informed her of what to do.
I had also made a couple of phone calls while we were on vacation in July 2016. I got the same disrespectful and pushy treatment from your phone representatives as my wife. I am a retired 28-year Air Force veteran and I can tell a scripted response to questioning. It was unnecessary, disrespectful, intimidating for my wife, and more importantly, thoroughly unprofessional.
My wife drafted a letter to include her name, medical condition, doctors' name and mentioned that she is able to get a letter from her doctor. I asked ** for the amount of the unused sessions over the last several months. The total was $929.85. However, ** explained that she was not authorized to give the refund of $929.85 and that I would have to send the request to the Director of Operations, **, and she (you) will have the authority to disperse the refund. ** said she was going to give you a heads up to let you know that I would be sending you an email.
I believe that under the circumstances in which my wife, and myself, have been treated and that her fear of being touched (medical condition) prevented her from getting the nerve to continue massage treatments, it is fair to request a refund of the remaining balance on past months of automatic payments in the full amount of $929.85. Please return the amount to the Visa card on file or mail her a business check to her name and address at the Slingerlands Massage Envy on file. I have never had to write a review on anything, but today has been too much. I'm not one to speak out. I try to avoid confrontation at all costs. Let me go back. About a year and few months back my husband bought me a 100 gift card to Massage Envy, but I work 3 jobs and have 3 kids so my time is limited. It took me about 5 months to redeem. The first couple attempts to make appointment they told me I had to be a member for them to even set me up with appointment. Okay that's strange. I know I have seen their sign out that clearly says walk in welcome, but whatever. So finally I was able to get an appointment. My massage was amazing. So when I'm ready to go, the lady at the desk asks me if I would like to become a member and today's visit will only be 59.00, but if I didn't want to it will take the whole 100.00. The catch is you have to sign up for 6 months and it is directly taken out of your account.
I explained to her that I'm very busy as you can see it has taken me this long to redeem this. She tells me my hours will roll over. Huh, this goes on for about 20 minutes. So my 6 months end but everything has been going great, but come June I get my daughter braces so I start spending money like I did on things that I don't really need, besides I have 3 hours saved up. This was on June 29th 2016. I cancel my membership, and she tells me my hours will expire in 60 days so that would make august 29th, right? Wrong! I said, “EXPIRED? What do you mean?” She explains to me well not really, “Those hours will always be there, you can just call and use them.” Talking to her for a while about this she reassures me I have nothing to worry about. So I leave there feeling pretty good.
September 1st I call and speak to a lady who was really nice, and she says, “Yes your hours expired in July, huh.” But she puts me on hold and comes back and she said she extended it until October. Sweet, right away I scheduled appointment the next day, after that massage I scheduled for Sunday September 11th. This is where the ** hits the fan. I get a call today from Massage Envy telling me my hours are expired and I will have to pay 100.00. I don't think so. I call them back and explained to the lady. I just spoke with someone a week ago about this. She tells me that girl no longer works her and they can't extend my 2 hours. Are you serious, I spoke with 2 ladies that told me I had nothing to worry about and you're telling me that the money you took out of my account is just yours and I get nothing? Her response is YES. As I'm losing it, she HANGS UP ON ME! I can't be the only person that thinks this is wrong.

I read reviews all the time, rarely take the time to sign up for a service with the sole purpose of writing one. My experience today was so ridiculous, I felt I needed to alert anyone that might be tempted to purchase a gift card for friend or loved one from Massage Envy. I received a Massage Envy gift card from my brother last Christmas. The voucher was good for a customized 1 hour massage or a 1 hour skin facial session. It expired on Sept. 15th, so I decided I better give them a call (about 10 days before expiration), to make an appointment. So I called and asked about making an appointment to redeem my gift card. The receptionist asked if I had ever used Massage Envy, to which I replied yes but was at least 10 years earlier (I did not mention it was not a great massage so I never went back).
She said "oh, so you never get massages or facials?" (Her remark sounded a bit condescending, maybe it's just me), to which I replied "actually I get massages all the time. I have a private masseuse, which is why I am interested in the facial". That seemed to put her in her place (always my goal, ha), and she proceeded to find me an agreeable time for appointment, and then set about creating an account for me (apparently required, sigh). Once she got me in her computer (email/address/phone number/first born haha), she asked me which credit card I would like to use to secure my appointment? "I need a credit card to secure my already paid for facial?" She said "yes in case you are a 'no show' for your appointment"...??? So, of course, I replied "you mean, for the appointment that has already been paid for?"
She started to explain the logic behind this, but I must admit, at this point I interrupted her because I was at my "idiocy meter" limit & just told her I was no longer interested in anything Massage Envy had to offer, and hung up the phone. That is 10 minutes of my life I will never get back & now I will need an extra massage this week, for the stress, hahaha. In summary, as if I have to, for those paying attention... If you're tempted to give your loved one a gift certificate, do them a favor and pick something a bit more consumer friendly.

I noticed every time I went in for a massage there was someone knew at the front desk. Never a good sign. My massage therapist let me know she was going to be giving her 2 week notice, because of the poor treatment from the owner. So I made sure I had a massage scheduled with her before she left. The day before my appointment I got a call from Massage Envy telling me she had gone on a leave of absence, would I like another therapist. I said no thanks and cancelled my appointment. I got a recommendation for a new therapist and made an appointment with her. Things went pretty well for a few months, until she decided she was tired of the unfair treatment of the owner and told me she was giving her 2 weeks notice.
So once again I made an appointment for one last massage, received a call the day before my appointment saying she took a leave of absence. I really needed a massage so they scheduled me with a therapist they said had been with them for about 4 years or so. This woman was scary, she came in to do my massage and asked what areas I needed work on and so forth. She started the massage, which was very abrupt and rough. I let her know and she said no problem. Then I noticed she was constantly sniffing, I got the impression her nose was constantly running. So she starts rubbing my neck, but starts rubbing the same spot over and over, harder and harder. I told her to stop, that it was hurting, she said sorry and moved down to my shoulders. Within a couple of minutes she started on the same area of my neck again with the same rough and fast movement as before and I told her "that's enough." She said "time was up anyway." Thank the good Lord.
I let them know at the front desk and told them I never wanted her to massage me again and asked how long she had been working there and was told about 8 months. I asked if her credentials had been checked and if they did drug testing on their employees. I tried a new therapist the next time and she was also horrible. Finally I ran into someone who had formerly worked there and she referred me to another therapist. When I called to make the appointment the guy that answered the phone was rude and dismissive. He told me there were no appointments at the time I was requesting. So I said thank you and hung up. I called again a few days later to make an appointment and the same guy answered and was even more rude than the first time. He told me once again the days and times I requested were not available for this particular therapist. I settled for a day and time that was tough for me to make.
The next day I called and asked to speak with the Manager. Her name was Wilma I believe. I let her know about the poor customer service I had received from the guy on my two previous calls. She said she was sorry, but he was only going to be there 2 more weeks, because he had given notice. I said if I were her I would let him go now or at least make sure he didn't answer the phones because they could lose business with his behavior. She said she would look into the matter. While I had her on the phone I asked her if the therapist I wanted was available on a certain day and time and she said yes. It was the same day and time I had tried to schedule the day before with the guy. I inquired if that spot had just become available due to a cancellation and she told me that the therapists schedule was wide open for the week I was requesting.
I had her cancel the appt I had made on the phone with him and let her know he had told me the therapists schedule was booked that week and only had the appt left that he made for me. When I called the following week the same guy answered the phone so I just hung up. A few weeks later I was getting ready to go for massage appt with my new therapist and got a call that she wouldn't be in that day and they had to cancel. I was done. I went down there a couple of days later and cancelled my membership. You go to get a massage to relieve stress, but Massage Envy in Seal Beach provided me with more stress than driving on the freeway. No Joke! Stay away from this location, it's horrible!

My extraordinarily poor experience with Massage Envy can best be retold through my July-August 2016 email communications with Katie, a supervisor at Massage Envy: My name is Veronica and although I live in California, I signed up to become a Massage Envy member while traveling in Houston on March 19, 2015. Julian, the business manager at the Houston Galleria area location provided me with your email address as I have a situation that he cannot fully address.
I received my first Massage Envy massage from Garrick at the Houston Galleria area location, and it was phenomenal; I was so delighted with the quality of the massage that I signed up to become a member that day (especially since I had travel plans to visit Houston monthly for the next 5 months). Unfortunately, since becoming a member, I was only able to be scheduled with Garrick one other time.
In addition to the Houston Galleria location, I tried massages in California at the Walnut Creek and Pleasant Hill locations. All other massages fell far short of Garrick's expertise and quality. I have since learned that I have osteoarthritis in my neck which may be impacting my massage experience (I can provide a note or copy of x-ray if required). After mentioning this to a massage therapist at the Houston Galleria location, I had the roughest and most hurtful neck massage of my life. I mentioned the experience to the attendant on duty and said that I would never book with that specific massage therapist again.
My Massage Envy account has been paid timely and shows 11 hours/massages remaining, which should be an indication that there has been an issue with service delivery or customer satisfaction. I spoke to the Ygnacio Valley, CA location about cancelling my membership at the time of my one massage attempt there, and they indicated that I needed to work with the office that originated my membership. So I made several calls earlier this year to the Houston Galleria location, and in April was told that Julian would call me back; he never did, so I called again on Friday, June 17, 2016. At that time Julian provided me with your contact information.
Timely payments have been automatically deducted from my account throughout the membership period, including payments in May 2016 and June 2016 (a couple months beyond the expiration date of my agreement). I've been seeking a solution for months, and have not gotten any traction or escalation until now. I am a wellness coach and believe in the power and healing of massage, and during this time period, have returned to my former massage therapist for massage. I really don't want to walk away from this Massage Envy experience without having due consideration for my multiple requests to transfer massages or gift remaining massages to others. My request is that my remaining massages be transferred to the friend who recommended Massage Envy and routinely receives benefit from the experience. Can you facilitate an equitable solution to this situation?
My next communication: There doesn't appear to be flexibility in the Massage Envy policy when the services provided have not met the expectations of the client. That said, I'm willing to let my unused hours go unused. What I am not willing to do is to continue to be charged for services I am not using. I am livid as today I received another monthly charge from Massage Envy. This is the third month beyond the expiration date. I request that you initiate a credit to my account as I have been in conversation (verbal and in writing) with Massage Envy employees since April (or earlier) and have made it clear that I DO NOT WISH TO CONTINUE MY CONTRACT. I have now been charged $59.99 for 3 months beyond my contract date. How can I make it stop? Maybe you can do this? I am requesting a credit of $179.97. If you cannot handle the credit portion of this request, I ask that you provide me with the name of your immediate supervisor.
After filling out a two-page cancellation form, and scanning and emailing it back, my final communication to them was: Please process the attached cancellation at your earliest convenience. I will be talking about my Massage Envy experience to others, especially cautioning folks about the expiration and cancellation procedure. As you might imagine, I'm seeking to join a class action against Massage Envy for their inability or unwillingness to honor the expiration date on their agreement.

I wish I could express my true feelings about the management of this company, in particular, the one on Highway 17, in the Hibernia area of Fleming Island, or what use to be a part of Orange Park, Florida. Let me first say, the therapists and young staff are usually just great. Their problems lie in the upper management and ownership of the place. I had a membership for about 3 years. I think the concept is great, but the way they treat the worker bees, and members, leaves a lot to be desired. They can be exceptionally rude to patrons, and downright mean to their employees. I would NEVER go there again. They are NOT interested in people, just the bottom line. Regrettably, most companies have forgotten that the employees make or break their business, and being fair to customers should the number one most important guideline in growing your little empire. :(

But still couldn't receive massage service. My account had to be in good standards. If I paid for them, I should be able to use my massages. So disappointed with this company. So basically if you can't continue to pay you can't utilize your credits. My friend also had 4 credits and she wasn't able to use hers as well... They used hers as payment for months missed... Left a sour taste in our mouths. Rip offs... 180. Gone in their pockets...

Just stopped dinging my credit card.). An hour ago, less than 3 hours before my appointment they called to change the massage to a sixty... leaving me with half a credit I won't be able to use. I opted to turn it into a gratuity for my massage therapist. How much is my half credit worth? Twenty bucks. This apparently means that each $59.99 is good for forty dollars worth of service and $19.99 in ME fees. So glad I am done. And. Hey. If I cancelled with less than 24 hours notice, I'd be penalized. The customer service is disingenuous making the experience less about pampering and more just a transaction. The staff were not responsive when I called. It took days to speak to the approved contact. 9 months later I paid my full year membership and I went two times. With the experience I had there was no way I would go back to use them. We asked to use the balance of almost $1000.00 at full price services and they declined and said we need to continue to pay the $59.99 to keep active so we can use the service -- crazy stupid. So if we cancel the service they want to steal the nearly $1000 of unused services. They won't allow her to gift to friends to catch up -- the whole thing is a major scam. BEWARE OF THIS SCAM. Not to mention you never even took the time to call me to let me know you cared and were looking into it. Why did you ask for my number if you were just going to ignore it and not do anything about it? It was only due to me calling you today 6/21 that you even acknowledged there was a problem and even then I had to do the running around to get what was needed to fix the problem.
It is disappointing that you lack common customer service skills that would make people believe in you and want to do business with you. But I know that none of this means anything to the person reading this letter. Or I would have gotten a call by now to resolve this issue. I expect a full refund for my purchase amount today 6/21/16. In Grand Prairie, Texas during March 2016 my wife bought me a free massage in the form of a ME gift card from Massage Envy during one of her facial treatments. I returned a couple weeks later to get my massage for my birthday. The gift card was for a 90 minute massage and it only lasted 50 minutes. After the massage, I returned to the front reception area to check out. They quoted me a 50 price. I handed the attendant the card. She scanned it and fumbled around with the card and said "That will be $50 dollars. How would you like to pay?" I told her this was a prepaid card with 50 dollars total.
This is where the old scam comes in... She has the balls to tell me that "Yes that is for our members price only" blah blah blah BS. [As I think back I should have just walked out of there.] I paid for my free birthday massage again (my wife bought the card for 50 bucks). I paid and left feeling like I had just been violated and a bit confused & angry. They ruined my birthday gift and smiled as I walked away pissed. PLEASE avoid any location as this is a crooked business model.
Now fast forward to June 2016. My wife decided to cancel (or not renew). Her 1 year contract was up and she had gotten her last massage. They told her to come in for a last free massage she had remaining. Somehow this automatically signed her up for a new 12 month contract. We requested a cancellation form - they emailed out. May 2016, we filled it out completely and correctly, digitally replied with the signed/completed copy of the cancellation form. We also added to the email body for them to reply stating that they had received the email/form... No reply but in June 2016 we see another charge on our bank statement for the regular monthly membership fee 59.99.
I jumped into my car with a copy of the signed cancellation and a copy of the email and went to pay them a visit. I politely explained this whole mess and had the clerk print out an entire audit of the account. She took the cancellation form and signed it and brought out a refund receipt. We will cancel the CC they have on file to avoid the whole song & dance in the future.

Finally, after receiving a response I'm told there are no refunds. They suggest I use the card, sell it or give it away. Not bad options however I shouldn't have to do any of those to get my money back. I'm a paying customer who spent over 100 dollars. After being a member for 6 yrs and never having an issue paying or anything, I have run into financial and scheduling issues. So I have accrued 8 unused massages (that I'm trying to catch up on) and I am stressfully struggling to pay each month right now. I called ME to explain and ask them for help with my account. Genevieve said the new rule is that they can freeze my account but I CAN'T use it (can't catch up on using the 8 massages)... or I can cancel my account but the massages ($69 each) that I bought will be forfeited and they would keep my money.

I went in to cancel and was advised that I have 40 massages due me. To cancel I would have to do the 40 massages in 30 days and I could only give one away for this month and one for next month and would lose the others. I cancelled in March but they are requiring me to pay another month. None of this was explained in this manner when I joined. I was told that I would have 6 months to use the massages after cancellation and that I could allow others to use it.
What seems really unfair is that It is impossible to use 40 Massages in 30 days, to have to pay an additional month after cancellation, and not be able to give the massages away I have paid for and to pay for an additional massage that I am not allowed to use. When I cancelled I was told the manager would call me to discuss the cancellations. However, I never heard from her. I was just enjoying a gift from my sister. So she explained everything THAT SHE WANTED TO EXPLAIN! I thought I asked all the appropriate questions because I have been fooled into contracts before. So I left under the impression that I would be charged $70 until I was ready to cancel. Which was okay with me.
So a few weeks later I ended getting a job in Paris (I am a model) so I would have to leave for a few months maybe a year. So I was calling all of my memberships, the gym, etc. I then got around to call ME. I called early in the morning before they were open and left a detailed message and at the end asking for a callback. So around 1 pm I realized that no one called me back so I went to call back. I explained that I had left a message earlier and had not received a callback. The receptionist proceeds to say, "Oh yes I see your message here"... SO WHY DIDN'T SOMEONE CALL ME BACK!!!
Anyway I proceed to tell her my situation about how I was leaving in a few days and I wanted to either cancel or freeze my account. She goes on to say... And I said I want to talk to a manager, then she said she will be in at 11am.
United called back at 11am and now the manager is talking to the owner. So the lady at the desk said, "I will take your number and the manager will call you back." Well still no callback. I would not tell anyone to go to this place. It's the worst place to go. All they are about is getting your money, they don't give good massage. And I feel the staff is very rude on customer services... If someone tells you that you can cancel and then you can't I feel that is very misleading, and please don't buy their product because it don't work. I spent $45.00 on face items and throw them away. The whole thing was a waste of time and money.

My girlfriend received a gift card for her birthday from her sister for 1 hour and a half of massage at this company. As the gift card described, the service was already paid in full. We printed the gift card online with the barcode and we went to this place in Bayside, NY called Massage Envy Spa. My girlfriend had previously called them on the phone explaining that she had a gift card from her sister for her birthday and wanted to get an appointment, but they said they needed her credit card information.
Being extra careful as everyone should be today, she decided not to give the credit card information, also wondering why they needed the credit card since the services were already paid in full. Instead, she decided to print the gift card and go to the actual business facility. When we got there, they once again asked for her credit card information. At that point we asked "why do you need her credit card information, since we have the gift card with bar code right here and this has already been paid in full?" They responded that they needed the credit card on file in order to make the appointment and couldn't scan the gift card print out. This is all the explanation they gave us.
It's only because we insisted arguing and asking why they couldn't use the information from the card that already paid the service, that they finally explained to us that they needed her credit card in case she cancelled. You have 24 hour from the appointment you make to cancel or reschedule and if you cancel, your card will be charged 50% of the service you were going to get (even though the services were already paid in full with the gift card from her sister). So we said "what if she misses the train or there's some major delay, since she works in lower Manhattan, and she can't make it and she can't cancel 24 hr prior to the appointment? What is it going to happen then?"
In this case, if you don't cancel within 24 hours from the appointment, they would charge you for the full amount of the service you scheduled on that card. At this point I said: "so basically, if I don't cancel within 24 hours, you are going to charge me $120 for the service scheduled, plus her sister has already paid $120 for the gift card. It's like paying $240 without getting any services whatsoever." Since the manager (Rachel) seemed confused, I sarcastically said "it's just simple math" and she responded: "No, in this case, you can come with the gift card that you printed and then we will cancel the charge on your card with it."
In other words, her sister would've paid $120 for nothing. To me, this looks just like a fly-by-night operation. People should be informed of the way these people operate, because it is clear to me that is very shady to say the least. I'm going to look further into this and make sure other people hear our experience. By the way, before leaving the facility I asked: "can her sister be refunded for the gift card, since we are not going to use it?" Rachel, the manager, responded: "Sorry... they don't do refunds on gift cards."

All they care is to sign you in and take your money. I don't think that anyone should be forced to use someone's service if they no longer wish to do so. Massage Envy #1081 in Mansfield, Texas. On March 16th I was turned away, after waiting 30 min. past my appointment time, because I have breast cancer. I made an appointment to relax because of the stress I have been under after having just been diagnosed with breast cancer. I showed up early as requested and filled out the required paperwork. I told the truth. I informed them I wanted a stress relieving massage prior to my surgery that was scheduled in a couple of weeks. After waiting 30 minutes past my appointment time I was told by Amber that they were refusing service because of my cancer. When I explained that "Derrick" would not be massaging my breasts I was told that because it is "circulatory" they would not risk it. This doesn't make sense to me because whether before or after my mastectomy it's still cancer. She "preferred" I return after my surgery with a medical release. Hmm. How should I lay on the table for the massage?
The idea is to go before surgery so it wouldn't be uncomfortable. Today is March 16th and my surgery not until March 30th yet no offer to return sooner. So, Amber laughed and said she knows how I feel because her father has cancer. Seriously? Amber was gracious enough to inform me I would not be charged for the appointment. Thanks! Also, it was a 45 minute round trip drive to visit this location but I didn't get an offer to refund the gas it cost to make the trip. Oh, Amber made a comment about HIPAA laws as well, however, we were not talking privately. We were standing just on the inside of an office and everyone standing in the store front area heard everything. They were quick to look away from me as I left.

Too bad I have to give them one star, I would give them none. I joined Massage Envy in 2011. At the beginning it was actually not bad but increasingly I had more and more trouble to book my appointments and had to call 4-5 weeks in advance to make sure I got one. Also, their massage therapist were changing very often and the next was worst than another. I finally reached a point when I asked to cancel my membership. They told me that I can but I have only 30 days to use my 9.5 hours of service. I asked them how they propose I can do that since #1 you virtually CAN'T get the appointment on weekends and I work during the week from 7 am-7 pm; #2 the month has only 3 weeks left so it means I would have to have 3.5 massages per week. Impossible! But this is their policy that is written in stone and they will not change it for nothing.
THEY WANT YOUR MONEY! So I stay and decided to use as many as I can and then cancel after I'm on the last 1 hour of service. Then my Credit Card that they had on record got compromise and they no longer were able to use it. Since I only had half an hour left in massage, I decided to just forgot it and ignore their requests for new credit card number. Then, after 3 months, to my surprise, I got Collection Agency letter for unpaid 3 months of services!!! So now, I have my credit history damaged, they refuse to reinstate my membership so I can use the 3 hours (if I pay) and I just HATE them, their services, their staff (very rude all the time). Their membership is like signing a cyrograf with blood. It's forever and you can't leave. Do not use them ever, do not fell into that trap. I'm just surprised that they are allowed to operate with all those issues.

I have recently contacted the manager at the Massage Envy in OFallon Il about a past due amount on my account. I stopped going to their facility after I moved. After I moved I found one closer to my house (Darien, IL location) to use until it became inconvenient. I told them I no longer wanted to continue my membership. I have told them I wanted to cancel my membership, but they said they could not cancel because it was not my home location. They were supposed to send me form to my email which I never received. They said they did not have the correct address on file even though I have corrected it numerous times. I have told them I wanted to cancel my membership, but they said they could not cancel because it was not my home location.
I had to cancel my credit card so they would stop charging me. Now they say they cannot cancel because of the past due amounts on my account. I do not understand why you cannot cancel your membership at any of the locations if I'm allowed to use my massages there. Why would I pay for services IO never received (Unused massages left on my account) and the only way to stop the charges was to cancel my card because I couldn't cancel it at a different location? The manager at the OFallon location was not helpful at all & just kept saying I need to pay the past due amount. There should be no past due amount because my account should have been canceled at my last visit to the Darien location. She was not helpful at all and had a very rude/superior/condescending type attitude.
I make way more than enough to pay the stupid balance, but it is the principle of it. You are trying to trap people into a contract by not letting them break it. And even after you know they want to break it you send forms that get lost in the mail or never seem to get to my email account. This is very shady business practices, if not fraudulent. I do not want a membership here & I refuse to pay for any additional services (they want me to pay for 3 months of charges from after I canceled my card since they would not cancel my membership). I still have used massages that I feel I'm owed as a credit/refund & I want this cleaned up in the history of my account. I saw there have been numerous class actions against this chain. It does not surprise me when you make it so difficult for someone to get out of a contract they do not wish to be in.

I had a terrible conversation with the franchisee and attempted to contact their corporate level, whom never responded to my plea for help. I am now stuck!
I'm too uncomfortable to return to the location to redeem my benefits from the membership package I am DESPERATELY trying to cancel since the franchisee, Ken, was rude and degrading in our heated argument. I was given terrible service and no one seems to care. I had made an appointment for February 3rd at 11:00. I was told to be there 15 minutes early for paperwork. I arrived at 10:40 and was checked in by Emily and as soon as I checked in I was asked to check out. I repeated "Check out? I just got here and haven't had my massage, why would I check out?" She seemed confused and said "OK follow me." She brought me to the back waiting area without paperwork to be filled out. I waited and waited and waited. I then get a phone call from Crystal asking me if I am still coming to my appointment since it was 11:04 and my appointment was at 11:00. I didn't hear my phone since I turned it on silent.
I proceeded to walk up to the front desk and say "Why am I being called when I have been here since 10:40?" Crystal says "Oh I am sorry there was a mistake." I said "Excuse me, a mistake?" She said "Yes." Emily is new and checked in another person named Susan instead of me. So at that time I got paperwork to fill out and by then it was 11:15. Although the person who did my massage was very good, I didn't enjoy it at all. I was ready to leave and forget it. I finish the massage which was anything but relaxing, and proceed to check out with Crystal and says "Don't pay anything today until I have the manager call you first thing in the morning." It is the next day at 12:30 and no phone call.
I call there, ask for the manager to hear she is not there, I ask "Was she in at all today?" and that person said "Yes." Where is my phone call? Does anyone care about customers? Why wasn't I called first thing this morning? This is not OK and I don't see myself going back. The manager is no example to her staff at all. The manager is Marisa and it is clear she cares only about herself. She obviously doesn't care about her staff, since she left Emily alone to work and she clearly wasn't ready. This is very poor. Here is what we have learned from our experience with massage envy which we believed that everyone should read this before enroll their membership program. Their membership agreement terms of conditions can be revised at any time without your knowledge. In the other words they strive to find the way to take money away from your credit card. Never given your credit card number to them, they will abuse your trust on them, and may take more money away from you with a most complicated understanding explanation. If this have not happen to you yet. You are lucky. One day it will. When above trouble occurred by their error, NO REFUND policy according to their branch manager and you ONLY be recovered by giving you extra massage service. You probably never get your money back.
You not be allowed to share the prepaid massage with the member of family, even you signed a joint account with your beloved one (never mention word on their contract). If you insist to do so you have to pay $10 transfer fee. If you forgot your appointment event once, you must pay for an entire service as punishment, no matter what season you had and no matter how hard you explain to them, NO MERCY!! I felt like we have been robbed. Anyway, there are more I want to describe this horrible situation we had with massage envy. Massage envy is a company from HELL. Watch out!

In December I called to set up my facial and was told they no longer had a person to do facials during the weekdays and if or when they got a new employee they would let me know. I waited until 1/14 to see if they found a employee and they had not.
I asked them if I would still have to pay my January payment if they could not provide the service. I so wish I had read all of these complaints before I did business with Massage Envy. If I had I would have steered clear. This company, in my opinion (and obviously in the opinion on many others), employs shady business practices and poor customer service. I've had reasonably good massages with my Massage Envy membership (not the best, but satisfactory). The problem that made me want to stop doing business with them occurred when I woke up very sick on a day that I happened to have a massage appointment. Their rigid policy is that they don't want a client to show up sick and infect the place, but there is no flexibility with the 100% cancellation fee either.
When you call in sick, they inform you of this limbo state where they may be able to fill your time slot and avoid the fee, but if they cannot, or do not even attempt to fill the slot, you, the sick and miserable are responsible for 100% of the prepaid service you are not able to collect on. They have the upper hand, they have your money, they have access to your credit card. Your loyalty, your perfect record and prior history mean nothing to Massage Envy. You are not a human being worthy of compassion and flexibility, you are simply a monthly cash infusion to them. Then the games really start when you try to cancel your membership. It is so frustrating and you feel powerless as you just cannot believe that people are actually trained and motivated to put their innocent massage loving fellow man through a gauntlet of hell to break free of the evil insanity (aka the Massage Envy contract) even after it has become a month to month agreement. I joined Massage Envy on Touhy over a year ago with my daughter. She is 11 years old and a competitive dancer. It was very important for her to be able to get massages as she dances 6 days a week to avoid injury and stress. It was invaluable - at first. Then it became hard to get appointments even though I was charged for 2 memberships. Finally, after complaining on multiple occasions, we were able to get in. Without warning, I was told that my daughter could no longer come and get a massage with a female masseuse as they had changed the rules. I signed a contract for her to be able to come in. We were no unable to go into Massage Envy and get massages as I NOW had to sit in the room with her. Therefore we could not do this as an activity together and she was not able to even get a massage.
I spoke with the owner multiple times, several managers, etc. My contract was no longer valid. They lied and keep telling me they were going to credit the charges when my daughter could not even come in. Still they charged me over and over again for her membership. Finally, the owner called and said there was "1 more step", I had to physically go in and show my credit card. So I dragged my daughter over to to Massage Envy and showed my card. I also explained that they had been some questionable charges and therefore I was getting a new card from my bank. They then told me that I would have to keep my card open or they could not refund me the money they charged illegally. Weeks have gone by and still nothing.
I finally was forced to contact them again. Viviana, who was the manager I spoke with told me that now I had to come in AGAIN and sign a form. Why wasn't that communicated before? I was just there in person and was told there was nothing to do but wait a few weeks for the credit to show up. NO CREDIT ever happened. They still owe me the money and refuse to credit me. I also am being forced to keep a card open or I won't get my refund. I explained the story AGAIN to Viviana and she was just like the rest. Promises, more requests, and no action. I then explained that Massage Envy is there to relax people. This has created not only stress but risk.
I asked to cancel my membership as well since I now cannot go to Massage Envy with my daughter as I originally signed up. It's been 9 months and I still do not have my credit and they still have not cancelled the membership for my daughter that ties to a contract that is not valid. However, just recently is when things went wrong. First, I scheduled an appointment for 11/28. On 10/27, I got the automated message saying I had an appointment the next day at 8AM. I called back to tell them that was incorrect and they then told me that 10/28 was the date they had me in for. And when I tried to reschedule for 11/28 - like I originally asked for - they told me the girl I wanted wouldn't be in that day. I went to a different location.
Now is where the problems really start - I got a voice message the other day saying my account is suspended because they aren't able to take a payment from the card they have on file. First of all, I cancelled that card and second of all, I paid my contract in full. Why are you trying to take funds? So then, the guy tells me if I want to cancel, I have to come in. I got another call today. The girl says I have to come in to cancel and I say I will be in tomorrow to do that. She says in order to cancel, I have to give them a valid CC number. I keep telling them I won't provide that to cancel a membership that I'm not even locked into anyway. All she kept saying was how I have to provide that info. I'm heading in there tomorrow to take care of this and they are not getting my CC number. In reading other reviews, no one mentions that. Has anyone had that? How did you guys get out of this? In addition, when I made my two payments, I was asked if I wanted to include the tip on my card I said "yes" $10 each time and the total was $74 which made sense. However, the month that I did not get a massage $74.89 was still charged to my account and I asked why was the tip included? I was then told, that was my "regular membership price without the tip". Needless to say I was perturbed. Then I noticed on June 1, 2015 there were two payments $74.19 and $74.89 the same day which I did not authorize a double charge. Finally, I had a bruise on my leg during one of my sessions which I did photograph.

Massages last about 35 minutes, not worth taking off your clothes. However, I have been informed that the massages are "gifts." I've been informed that the reason I am required to pay the monthly fee is to belong to the club. The only benefit of the club, of course, is the massage. If I have accrued "gifts" but fail to pay my next month's fee, the gifts are not available to me. And they make getting out of the contract incredibly complicated. Massage Envy is kind of a scam, actually. It would be easy to just submit if the massages were worthwhile. Mostly, you just wish that they'd be over.

I cancelled my membership back in June since they were unable to keep the same massage therapist for more than a couple of months. Plus on top of that it was so difficult to schedule an appointment it was getting absurd. So I called and cancelled, filled out the form and sent it back. I was already a year and a half in and on a month to month membership. A month later they try to charge my debit card for the monthly fee so I went down there. They apologized and refunded my card. I called my bank to make sure that they could not "accidentally" charge my card again. Then in November they found a way around the bank's stop payment and charged my account almost $300.00. My bank let me know that they had been trying for over a month to charge my card for all different amounts in different ways. My bank got this resolved for me but I wanted to warn those out there to be careful.

I became a member of the Edina, MN Massage Envy about 2 years ago and was okay with the service, enough to keep my membership. However, I was planning a move to Washington DC for one year and asked about whether to cancel or suspend my membership until I came back. I talked to three employees over the month before I moved away and they all said that I should suspend because I would be coming back but that I could only suspend for six months at a time and then I would have to call and reactivate that suspension, so that is what I did.
It has now been six months and I called to reactivate the suspension and I have been told that I cannot do that. So I asked to cancel and apparently I can only do that in person or I need to fill out a form, sign it, and send it back with proof of my new address. I will also lose the 2 massages that I have already paid for (total $120). There are Massage Envy's in Arlington, VA that I could use but to use my paid for massages I need to transfer my membership. Which means I have to fill out a form, sign it, and send it back to Edina, MN with proof of my new address, plus pay $10 at the new place to complete the transfer. When I called the Massage Envy in Arlington they said I just needed to call the one in Edina and let them know I wanted to transfer so Arlington could call Edina and get my information.
Are you confused yet? I am too. Right now I am going to try and just cancel and think of the $120 as a cancellation fee. However, I am very worried they are going to charge me for November before I can get them all the information they need. Having said all this I have yet to receive an email with the forms to fill out for cancellation or to transfer my account. I talked to the Edina, MN branch on Tuesday, November 3, Wednesday, November 4 and again today, Sunday November 8, 2015 (about an hour ago) to see if I could get that information. I have yet to receive it. Each time they said they need to speak to the director and would call me back that day. I have yet to receive a call back as well. My recommendation is to stay far, far away from Massage Envy.

Then went back in the store the south Portland, ME location on 343 Gorham RD, then all the suddenly I was the one with faults. Them asking me why did you sign before you understood the terms. Because I made a mistake to trust one of your employees and I only asked one simple question and that was if I CAN CANCEL MY MEMBERSHIP ANYTIME I WANT WITH OUT ANY OBLIGATION, then she said YES! YES! Two times.
Since then I tried to resolve this issue with them for more than five time. Then on Dec 11 of 2012 I got a letter from them saying that my account # ** has now been paid in full. I was told that Massage Envy is a big corporation that they can get away with that. And that was when I went back to ask again about my account in June of 2013. When I received a communication from TRANSMITTAL systems a collection agency saying that they are trying to collect a debt that the creditor has requested that they contact me regarding the account # **. This time different from the first account number from Massage Envy, so since then I suffered different credit issues and I still have a bad credit because of that simple mistake I did to trust one of MASSAGE ENVY EMPLOYEE... I did the one hour 39.99 new customer massage and I really just needed to have the knots worked out between my upper shoulder blades (which I communicated to the massage therapist). My therapist did a light general rub on my back and my arms and for the most part, just talked about how she had been in a number of car accidents, about her personal injury attorney, how "race" caused the accidents she got into, the paternity tests for her babies, her own health issues and personal woes, etc. Many times she would stop massaging for several minutes just to talk and sort of complain about life. She her breath smelled badly of stale cigarettes, which was particularly intolerable while she was rubbing the back of my shoulders with my face facing the ceiling.
As I was checking out, they really pushed me to purchase a membership, and to schedule on-going appointments, which I declined. After reading these reviews I'm really glad I did not sign up. Their non-membership fees are very pricey, similar to a high-end salon - but not nearly the same quality. I left with the same knots in my upper back and not feeling like I even had a massage - just a waste of my time and money.

I usually only write good reviews because these tend to be less frequent and I like to give credit where people/businesses go above and beyond to give great service. However for me to be writing this TERRIBLE review about Massage Envy is because they are a bunch of thieves!!! 1. Tried to cancel & was told "sorry no you can't, you signed contract for 1 year." "Hmm really, don't remember that but OK I'll go home and look for my contract"
2. Before attempting to cancel I tried to use my membership several times & they NEVER had availability at any of the locations when I tried to set an appt. 3. My mother whom I had signed up with on the same day had to go in and cause a scene just to get out of the contract. (Lost all her credit, 8 months worth total of $450. Also, they didn't just let her out of her contract but they cancelled mine too WITHOUT informing me they had done so. 4. Within 30 days of MY call (thinking I was never cancelled) I tried to schedule an appt again only to be told that my account was cancelled and I could not use my credits because I didn't use them w/in the 30 days after cancellation.
I WASN'T EVEN ABLE TO SCHEDULE ANY APPTS WHEN I DID HAVE AN ACTIVE MEMBERSHIP. What makes them think I could schedule 8 appts in 30 days?! $400 down the drain!! $850 easy money for them without having to lift a finger. The one time we each did get a massage it was mediocre at best. Horrible! Horrible! Horrible! Don't ever use them! Ever!

When I did try to use them I was told I can't because I was pregnant & for whatever reason, they never have a prenatal therapist on site. So I'm getting charged for massages that I can't use? & if I cancel I lose them ALL. This membership is a waste. There are MUCH MUCH better spas with better membership terms, better layouts, better lobbies, better options & better masseuses.

My facial was great. I didn't go for couple of months and next thing I receive a phone call letting me know my account has been suspended (mind you THIS WAS PREPAID) as I my credit card was declined. Membership is great until you try to cancel. I moved out of Hoboken with 4 sessions left in my account and was told I needed to use all the sessions before I canceled my account or would lose them. Obviously it's difficult to use 4.5 session within a 30 day window but I was willing to try. The only locations I can now access within a 45 min radius are charging me a significant additional fee to use my sessions that I've ALREADY paid for... I was a member at the Hoboken location. I called them to ask for the new charges to be waived or reduced but they basically told me I was SOL. They didn't care that I have been a member for over 4 years and were not willing to cover the additional fees I would need to pay to use my sessions.
Massage Envy already has my money so there is no incentive for the company to deal with me. This is very poor customer service and their policy prohibits loyal customers from maintaining their membership after a move. In the event of a customer moving, unused sessions should be honored at the price already paid without additional fees. My only option now is to forfeit 4.5 unused massage sessions (value ~$315) or pay an additional $20-30 more per session to use at a location near me. That's another $112.50 to use a service that I already paid for but because I moved I'm getting penalized. Hoboken's suggestion was for me to go away on vacation and then use my sessions to avoid their egregious up-charges in my new hometown. I would not recommend this membership to anyone. If I would have known my sessions would not have been honored without any hidden up-charges when I moved, I would have never become a member.

Of course I was not aware my membership expired nor did I receive any notice nor was I going to be told this till after my massage. I'm only to assume that if I had followed their wished and took my massage before I took care of payment that I would then be obligated to pay double of what I usually pay.
So I left feeling tricked and went through the trouble of cancelling my credit card that they had on file. No telling what other dishonest practices they might try. I used a favorite massage person who helped through massage to ease my back and neck tightness. I will be at a loss till I find another massage person who is just as good for me. Buyer beware! Please think twice before choosing to become a monthly member at Massage Envy. I've had one headache after another since becoming a member in November of 2014. First, don't expect an hour massage. They will call you back 5 minutes late and still get you out five minutes early. With changing time, you're receiving a 45-minute session at very best. This happened to me on every occasion I went. When I went to cancel my membership after many months, I had seven outstanding massages. The girl informed me that I had only 30 days to use the remaining 7 massages. This is NOT what I was told upon signing up. When signing up, they say that the massages, "never expire." When canceling your membership, they then decide to add, that massages "never expire until you cancel your membership."
I finally resolved to pay the crock of a $10 transfer fee to use my remaining massages. Near the end of my 30 day period, I called to find out how many more I had left. The girl I talked to told me that I had three left. She then proceeded to help me understand all of the ways that I could use my remaining three massages. I decided to go with her suggestion of doing 2 - 90 minute massages, one for me and one for my mom. We got our massages (really only about 75 minutes, see above). Upon checking out, they told me I owed for an entire hour. I told them that the girl I spoke with told me that I had three left. Their response, "She is new. You still owe for the last massage." I cannot believe that a company would expect their clients to pay for their mistake. Oh, and rudely I might add. I am beyond disgusted with Massage Envy. And I get that you need to pay every month for services you have to use or you lose them at the end of your membership, or did until the class action lawsuit earlier this year. Even that was okay with me. But what is not okay is the pathetic $10 "transfer" fee you have to shell out for giving one of your umpteen massage times you have left over (because you inevitably will if you have any kind of job or activities going on) to anyone else in your family (even if you live in the same house), PLUS you are unable to transfer anything more than a 60 minute "credit" to anyone one time every six months.
Meaning, if you personally don't get the massages, you are out of luck. This place makes its money by assuming you won't get all your massages. They plan ahead to rip you off. The next appt I signed up was the following month - they called to confirm my appointment but they had the wrong time. I called and the phone was never answered, so I went at my time. They charged me for missed appointment, never taking responsibility. They offer me a 90-min massage after they charged me and my next appointment I went in, I took the card with my appointment and time that they changed me last month, and they still denied it, acting like I changed the time on the card.
I had a 60-min terrible massage that day. What happened to 90 mins? I was stuck in this contract. I took some time off - 1 month did not go and the next month I didn't go - so I had credit. I was going to take my son and pay for his facial and with my 2 month credits, I was going to get a facial and massage. They said I missed my appointment and no, that got settled. Then they said they didn't receive payment for the last month. I told them it was on my bank receipt they did but they still didn't admit. They charged me 2 facials, 69.99 each, and 60-min massage for my membership. This made no sense to me, I felt numb and taken advantage of.
So I made my appointment for this month, July 17 2015 at 11:00 or 11:30, wasn't sure what time, but I knew it was 11:00. So I called and they said it was at 9 am - oh man I was so mad, I wish I can just get out of this contract. So he said I can schedule you an appointment today. I was like, "ya but you'll charge me." "Yes", he said, "I have to, but you can talk to my manager." Then he was like, "oh they couldn't pull out payment today from your bank." I was like, "oh ya I have a new card due to fraud on my old card, but I do have the new one." He wanted the card number bad. I was gonna give it to him but I had a 'Humm' moments - they can't charge my card if they don't have it. So I did not give it and said, "please have your manager call me." What should I do? Any advice?

WATCH OUT. I made an appointment for a massage. There was a misunderstanding on the date booked. There was no prior reminder call. The Assistant Manager Adriana claimed that an employee talked to me directly. I was at the beach. They lied. Then they charged my card for half the cost of the massage. I will never return to the Pleasant Hills CA Massage Envy. ** was rude, condescending and accused me of lying. WATCH OUT.

I was given a gift card as bday gift by my mom. I scheduled a prenatal massage almost 2 weeks ago at which time I notified the receptionist that I had medically managed HTN. Showed up to my appointment today, gave the same info I have over the phone, and was refused my massage b/c I didn't have a MD's release, which I was never told I needed before. I was told by the clinical director, Nancy, that it was their protocol, but when the phone convo was brought up, she said it wasn't protocol to be told that when scheduling an appointment. I then left & called to get contact info to make a complaint & was hung up on once by the clinical director & then by a receptionist who was told to do so by the same clinical director. I have contacted the corporation in an attempt to get my mom a refund for the gift card as I will never go there.

I bought a one year membership. I only used 10 out of 12 monthly services. I told them two months ahead I would be canceling my subscription so that I would not be billed. They asked me casually to sign a paper to confirm my ending my membership after the year so I did. When I called to use my two remaining month of services, I was told the membership year was over 2 months ago and cannot use these services that I had already paid for as I am no longer a member!!!! That's like stealing money. Apparently it was in the fine print that I relinquish any remaining services once my membership expires.
So this is how they lure you into continuing membership so that you can use services you already paid for! Total scam. I am suing them in small claims even if I lose. I am calling Consumer Affairs. I am going there to ask for my money and will call the cops over just to give them some bad publicity. Don't be fooled!

Beware! Do not let anyone on staff at Massage Envy talk you into putting your membership on hold. I had to medically put my membership on hold and was unaware that your "hold expires" after a specific period of time. Sadly that doesn't mean that your membership stops after that period of time - it means they start charging your credit card again! When I noticed this and stated that I didn't have medical clearance to return they didn't care! In fact, when I asked what they were going to do with my five outstanding "credits" I was told to come on in and get a massage... The lack of medical knowledge is one reason I ended up on a medical hold in the first place! Don't get sucked in - spend the extra $20 and get a reputable massage!

First off, don't ever give these people your credit card number. I was given a massage for a Mother's Day gift. My daughter is a member and she transferred a massage to me. She wanted me to the Casa Linda location in Dallas, TX. Her membership is at another location and she called where her membership is so that no one would be charged. A few days before the appointment I got a called from the Casa Linda asking me for my credit card number in case I did not showed. I should have gone with my gut feeling and not have given it to them, but I gave it to them. I went to the appointment, nothing was said to me and I talked to the girls working the front and left.
When I received my credit card statement and they charged me for the session. So far I've spent over two hours on the phone with the Casa View location. I keep getting the runaround. I've contacted the card company. I have emailed the owner, Wilson Chen since the manager says he is not able to call me. He has not responded. Apparently in researching this company, deceptive practices are not uncommon. It's a major scam. Also, at the Casa Linda location the place ran by high school girls or very young adults, the managers are rarely there. It concerns me that this type of procedure (massage) is being done to people with little or no supervision on the premises. Another thing I was told that if they refunded my money then the person who did the massage would not get. I told **, one of the managers that guilt will not work with me. Massage Envy needs to be investigated for deceptive practices.

Instead my Appt. was canceled when I asked for the contract to be terminated because Massage Envy was not keeping their word to provide me a service. I was told there was nothing could be done. Neither could they get me in that week. I tried the following week. Still nothing. I asked to speak to owner. I was told by ** that she did not know the boss schedule. The billing for Massage Envy are very deceptive. If a customer wants to stop the program, this will delete or stop the customer's access to his benefits, even though they have been paid. It is like they take your money, then they make sure that you continue because they keep your money, and your services are blocked and they keep your money. This type of business should be outlawed.

I signed up for the membership to get the cheaper price. After the fact I learned I could see a private therapist in my area for the same cost as "membership pricing". So their non-member prices are a JOKE. What I missed when I signed up, is this is a one year agreement. You cannot cancel at anytime. So when I lost my job and could no longer afford this, they only let me freeze my account. And the freeze was a maximum of 6 months. So when I finally got back on my feet and I was not ready financially to start paying again, I had no choice.
Then to make matters even more messed up, the month my subscription renewed the only masseuse I liked was not available for over one month. They told me that wasn't their problem, that if I wanted to be picky when they have many other available staff was my own problem. Then I find out she wasn't available because they were closed for 2 weeks while doing a remodel. So I just paid for a massage I can't even use for over a month, and by then I'll be paying for a second one. Thank goodness that will be number 12 for me and I can finally cancel and be done with this rip off company. Support local massage therapist and avoid this place.

Unfortunately I have had repeated bad experiences with this location. It is extremely difficult to schedule massages on weekends or evenings. On the occasions I've been there in the evenings there have been very few visible patrons and many empty rooms leading me to think they do not have the staff to accommodate more than a few requests in the evenings. Weekend appointments are nearly impossible unless scheduled weeks in advance. On 2 different occasions I have had appointments cancelled by Massage Envy literally within hours of my time. Per their policy if an appointment is cancelled by the client without appropriate notice the client is charged a fee. However Massage Envy made no effort to compensate me in any way for my lost time due to their cancellations. I would have been very happy if they had simply offered to upgrade my next massage etc.
After the second time I asked to be contacted by a manager which has never happened. I asked to be put on a waiting list for next available evening appointment. Apparently, despite their canceling on me versus the other way around, no effort was made to work me back in. I called back on a whim the next day and they actually did have an available appointment upcoming on the following evening. I accepted the appointment and again mentioned to the staff that I was not happy with the service. Sill no call from a manager.
The last straw came when I received a call during my work day yesterday to say they had tried to process my credit card for my next massage, which was scheduled for the next evening, and the card was declined. I explained that I would work with them at the time of my appointment to figure out what the issue was (they were apparently trying to process payment on an old card they were to remove from their system and did not). However I was at work and could not handle the matter at that time. I happen to work in a busy hospital and my personal belonging, including my credit cards, were locked away in a separate part of the hospital. I was told in no uncertain terms that if they could not process payment they would not hold my appointment time.
I finally had had enough. After work I called their national customer service line and explained all the above. I was told the owner would be contacted and I should expect to hear from him/her the next day. It is now 6:26 pm on the day I should have been contacted. I have not heard from anyone. I have again left a message for customer service and have contacted my credit card company to prevent any further payment to Massage Envy. I would not recommend this location to anyone.

Well this situation started when my wife gave me a $100 gift certificate to Massage Envy Christmas 2014--HO! HO! HO! I have got "deep tissue" massages for years, and I called April or May of 2015 to get an appointment in Richmond. I tried two locations in Richmond and a 3rd in Mechanicsville, VA. OK, I got there. I work so I had to take an hour off early so they could "fit me in". The massage was great. Near the end the technician asked if I would like to schedule an hour and a half next time-- I said yes --she finished, left the room and I dressed and gave her a $20 tip. When I got outside the lady on the business desk goes after me like a used car salesman about how this would be expensive if I didn't sign up for the contract. Knowing full well the problems that I had had making the appointment to start with, I declined.
A couple days later I call back to get another appointment to finish using the $60 left on my gift card and got the "run around of all time". I tried another branch further in the West End --what a screwed up process! I let it rest for a couple weeks and call the branch in Williamsburg, VA--I understood that they could not see me at 6 in the afternoon but could have someone there at noon on Saturday. I cancelled a meeting that I had on Saturday morning and arrive 30 minutes early to find that my appointment was not on the 6th of June as I understood, but on the 20th of June. GIVE ME A BREAK! I have asked for a refund on the 60 dollars on my gift card, but that isn't going to happen. I notice their website does not have a place for a review--CAN YOU IMAGINE THAT! Well, they have bought a lot of bad advertising for $60. I will bad mouth them at every opportunity that I get.

I've had an account with Massage Envy since 2011. As a military member I occasionally have had to place my account on a freeze and usually had not had a problem, until last Oct. Massage Envy does have a ridiculous policy that forces you to bring your account off of a freeze for 30 days if you want to use any of your massage credits; it's annoying, but I was willing to deal with it for the time being... Until in October 2014 I again requested to place the account on freeze (as I still had 2 hours of unused massage credits), but the request didn't go through. Luckily my payment card expired in November and they were unable to charge anymore... as a result I received threatening calls and ultimately Massage Envy attempted to place my account in collections!
When I spoke to **, the general manager of the Clear Lake TX location, he was condescending and argumentative. Ultimately I told him to close my account and keep his 2 hours of massages - I wanted nothing further to do with the company! Instead I began getting letters from a collection company in February 2015. I called both the collection agency and the Massage Envy, both gave me the runaround. I have made attempts to get copies of my contract and account history, but my online account has been conveniently deleted! Yesterday, I received a voicemail from the Clear Lake Massage Envy congratulating me on bringing my account current and informing me that my surprise $384.93 payment meant that I could now use 9 hours worth of massages, that I don't want and did not approve payment for!
I wish I could pick 0 stars on this!!! If you need a massage, go anywhere else in the world to get it. Even though they do have some competent masseuses working for them, the management is worse than you can imagine! I really feel bad for the good workers at this location because the moron manager (**) is going to destroy their business!

My family has been a member of Massage Envy Weston for almost 4 years. My recent experience with them was horrible! I would give them no stars if it was possible! There is a new federal ruling as part of a class-action suit against Massage Envy that prohibits Massage Envy from cancelling out massages after your membership has been cancelled by them or you. It is retroactive to all who have participated as a member. Google the information and participate in the class action suit.
Basically, and as an example of why the practice was found to be illegal, if you've accumulated 10 massages and wish to use them, you need to stay a member until all of those massages are used. This would require you to get several massages a month, even if you don't want to. Their illegal rule makes it impossible to get only one massage a month as a member. You would accumulate a new massage with each month of membership. Therefore, you would never be able to use all of your massages. WHAT FRAUD!!!
The owner of the Weston location, Andrea O'Brien, has no people skills and makes no effort to keep long term clients. I have 3 accounts at that location. She was hell bent on being right and enforcing her self-serving "rules" that have been found to be illegal, rather than asking what she could do to maintain us as a client. Ms. O'Brien shouldn't be in the service business and allowed to take advantage of people. Ms. O'Brien preys on people's ignorance and hides behind illegal business practices.
Also, her location is run by young, inexperienced people, who claim that "they couldn't reach her even if the location was burning down!" Ms. O'Brien refused to call me back on the weekend and boasted how she doesn't work on the weekends. As a business owner that operates on the weekends, where is her responsibility to her clients? How hard is it to make a return call or reply to an email, simply stating "I'll call you back on Monday at 9 am". Again, poor business skills and very frustrating. Also, I've found that this location infrequently has availability, again, causing you to accumulate massages that you may not ever get a chance to use (until O'Brien begins to follow the law).

I show up with my gift card in hand and present it to the young gal behind the counter. She swipes it a couple times and says, "There's nothing on it." I reply, "Yes, there happens to be 200.00 on it." She tries a few more times and says I have to bring in the receipt for it on my next visit, but that I have to pay for this first visit myself. The visit was very good, and I scheduled my second appointment.
I explained the situation with my friend, and she gladly gave me all the documents I needed. It was very clear on the date of purchase, location (Boulder, CO), amount, and even the Massage Envy associate that rang the sale. At my second visit a young guy behind the counter worked on it while I was in my session, and when I returned to the front desk, they gave me the good news. However, they said, the best way to use this gift card it to get on a maintenance program. My first question was, will I be able to cancel it, and I was told yes.
Well, the gift card ran out and then my credit card started being charged each month, and my visits were nice. However, in April of 2014, I moved to Estes Park, CO and needed to cancel my maintenance program. The nasty looking lady behind the counter curtly said, "You can't do that. All you can do is suspend your account for six months." I let her know that that is not what I was told, and all I got was a glare in response.
They did not charge my card for the six months, but diligently began again in November 2014. The great massage therapist that I was seeing was gone, and the visits were not worth the fee, let alone a tip. In February 2015, my card on file with Massage Envy was used in a fraud purchase at Nordstrom for 349.00 and the 500.00 attempt at Wal-Mart was declined. The bank canceled the card, which left Massage Envy nothing to charge.
Since everything happens for a reason, I figured this was a good way to cancel this ridiculous subscription all in the name of my health. I certainly was not going to place another credit card on file for a service that I felt ended with my gift card. I received a couple calls and benefit letters that my card had expired, which I just ignored. However, yesterday, May 13th, a Massage Envy person called and left a message saying, I needed to call before May 30th because my account is in arrears and that they would be turning it over to collection.
I was livid! I phoned them late last night to tell them a few things, and they knew who I was from my cell number. I let them know that the harassing calls need to end for a service I don't want, and that if they sue, I will counter sue. Not sure how a service company can sue people who decline their service, so I Googled Massage Envy complaints and saw all the class action suits already in progress against them. Maybe I'll join one of those. Bottom-line - stay away from this crooked company and give your money to a self employed massage therapist and tip them well.

My husband and I became members of Massage Envy, my husband in 2011, I am a member since December last year. My husband moved several times over the years and he had some credits stored up (8 sessions to be precise)... which miraculously disappeared when we came to Texas. We transferred to Corinth. Luckily one of the girls from the Flower Mound branch was able to see those 8 credits on their system. We were so happy that finally someone was able to, so we ask her to leave a note on the system in order for them show up whenever his file is open and she did (I regret that we didn't take a pic or make her print the page for evidence).
About a month later we went to cancel our membership and once again he didn't have those credits. We tried to talk to the corporate office, they never pick up their phones or return calls. My husband wanted to talk to the owner of the branch in Corinth, he never returned his calls either. We went to talk to the same girl in Flower Mound, who found the credits, fortunately she remembered us and she opened his file to see if the note she wrote is there. Apparently it was deleted. Massage Envy in Corinth altered my husbands file, they simply deleted those credits. My advice for anyone who is looking for a massage place: DO NOT GO TO MASSAGE ENVY, THEY ARE LIARS!!!
