My husband and I became members of Massage Envy, my husband in 2011, I am a member since December last year. My husband moved several times over the years and he had some credits stored up (8 sessions to be precise)... which miraculously disappeared when we came to Texas. We transferred to Corinth. Luckily one of the girls from the Flower Mound branch was able to see those 8 credits on their system. We were so happy that finally someone was able to, so we ask her to leave a note on the system in order for them show up whenever his file is open and she did (I regret that we didn't take a pic or make her print the page for evidence).
About a month later we went to cancel our membership and once again he didn't have those credits. We tried to talk to the corporate office, they never pick up their phones or return calls. My husband wanted to talk to the owner of the branch in Corinth, he never returned his calls either. We went to talk to the same girl in Flower Mound, who found the credits, fortunately she remembered us and she opened his file to see if the note she wrote is there. Apparently it was deleted. Massage Envy in Corinth altered my husbands file, they simply deleted those credits. My advice for anyone who is looking for a massage place: DO NOT GO TO MASSAGE ENVY, THEY ARE LIARS!!!

Massage Envy recently opened in Duluth, MN in fall of 2014. They had regular live radio spots on local radio stations promoting a special deal just before Christmas. The message went something like this: "Give FREE massages for Christmas! Buy 3 Massage Gift Cards for $150, and get a FREE one for yourself. You can give 3 massages to one person, or give a free massage to 3 people, PLUS get a certificate for a free massage you can either use yourself or give away too. And the gratuities are included in each gift card!"
I bought this deal for my wife as a Christmas gift. The cards have no $$$ value amount mentioned either on front or back, just says "Merry Massage, Happy Holidays, Seasons Greetings, etc." on the front. The cards have no expiration date, but the paper certificate was good for only 3 months (exp. March). She used the paper cert. first and left a tip since it wasn't one of the cards. When she approached the checkout counter, she was advised that she qualified for an extra 1/2 hour on her next visit. Then the high pressure sales pitch for the regular membership began, but my wife declined it. She reported to me that she loved the massage and was looking forward to the next visit.
After a few weeks, my wife decided to go for her second visit yesterday. Types of massages were offered, she chose the "deep tissue" massage, no extra charges were disclosed. After the fine, relaxing session, she left a tip in the provided envelope for the therapist (despite inclusion in the gift card), then went to check out where she was presented with a $149 bill. My wife handed the clerk one of the gift cards, where the clerk rang it up and informed my wife she owed a balance of $99. My wife said the certificate was for a "FREE" massage. The clerk then proceeded to "explain" that the offer was "introductory" and she had already been there before, so now the card was only good for $50 off, but she could apply her "points" earned from the last visit (previously described as "Free Extra 1/2 Hour") towards her bill leaving her with a $77 balance).
My wife, getting annoyed and upset, then asked if she could apply a second gift card. The clerk accepted it and charged my wife $27 in addition to the 2 "FREE massage" cards. She reluctantly paid the $27, and the clerk had the gall to ask, "Don't you want to add a gratuity?" My wife informed her she already tipped the therapist in the room. Now after all this with my wife already very upset, the clerk proceeds with the spiel about buying a membership, not wanting to accept "No" for an answer, and saying "Just think how great you feel right now!"
On the contrary, the clerk was being very pushy at the point of becoming rude, making my wife very uncomfortable before finally walking out the door. There's one card left that will likely not get used now. I feel ripped off by purchasing these gift cards as they are certainly not good for what they were advertised being good for, and I feel bad my wife had to have this type of experience that I gifted her with. She also feels taken for having to pay for something she believed she was getting as a free gift from me (plus having to surrender an extra one of those freebies). They make you feel physically great, then follow it up with making you emotionally stressed and ripping you off.

Due to extensive work travel, I had to freeze my account. I still had 3 HOURS of PREPAID & UNUSED services at the time of freezing my account. But, when I attempted to use 1 of those 3 hours, they told me that I could not b/c once your freeze the account, you LOSE your membership Privileges. Unbelievable!! They ripped me off… I paid for services and now I cannot use just b/c I had to freeze my account. They are essentially holding my prepaid hours ransom.
I then try to locate a contact email or phone # for their Corp office, but they are crafty little **!! Their corp website actually says: “We have found the best way to address your inquiries or concerns is by contacting your local Massage Envy Spa clinic directly”. Put your decoders on…this really means, we don't give a ** about our customers and don't want to be bothered… call the franchise… as we are too busy ripping you off to handle your complaints. I will now CANCEL my membership and share my horrible experience with others. Best you spend your $$ at a reputable local facility.

I called and made an appointment in the morning, as I woke up with a pinched nerve. They said that they had an opening at 6:30 pm and booked me with my wife's membership that she was able to gift me. So I took off from work early (I am an owner of a fast growing company that ships products around the world. Which means I work 7 days a week) and arrived at 6:10 pm as they instructed me to do so as I had paper work to fill out. I walked in and they looked up my appointment that they couldn't find.
Finally after 2 of them had no clue what was going on, the 3rd person said "oh yes there was a scheduling problem with your appointment. Come back in two days at the same time." I politely replied "never mind, just cancel my appointment." My time is valuable and I refuse to be treated like that. They could have at least called and told me there was a problem. Then I would have understood and felt differently. I will never step foot in there again.

Advertisements, website, and all store signage list times and process, but beware a 60 minute massage id's actually only about 45 minutes. The other 15 minutes id's for paperwork and dressing time. Then there are add id's that are only explained after the appointment is made. I called in and asked for a deep tissue massage. I was quoted $49.95, but that is only a base price. To get the deep massage, it is required to pay $12 more.

First, before signing up, I received different information if I need to cancel or froze the account. Then that person left the company - a month later, another person told me I need to fill up the form to froze the account. Did that, and a month later they still charge me. Very disappointed and will go to hotel spa from now on. Will not recommend to any of my airline friends.

Will not recommended or use Massage Envy ever again.

I have a medically complex 3-year old. He's been through heart surgery, countless procedures, is GTUBE fed, in and out (over 40 times) of the hospital since the day he was born, and has countless weekly doctor app'ts. I work full-time, and have another young child who is healthy and typical and wide-open. Let me say, I am not creating a "woe is me" situation -- these are just facts. A few months ago, I used a gift certificate one of my mom's wonderful friends gave me to Massage Envy for a treatment because as you can imagine, my life can be somewhat challenging day-to-day. Had my massage, which was 'ok' and attempt to check out. I felt like I was at a gym where the girl checking me out gets money for getting me to sign up for one of their "packages".
"No, I don't need a package, but thank you", I explained. But on and on she went telling me (in a few words) how catastrophic it would be if I didn't sign up right then and how much money I would save on the days treatment...on and on and ON. And my response: "No, no, no, no, but thank you and no". But ah! Finally a question I can say "sure" to without signing a contract causing me to be beholden for a monthly mediocre massage. Sure, I answered, I'll go ahead and make an appointment for next month. But without fail, my son once again, gets ill. Of course I'm running around between doctors app'ts, my job, my other child, and well, just life.
Somewhere in the mess, I listen to a message confirming my appointment. "Shoot" I thought, "I need to cancel that. " But real-life events prevented me from doing so, I'm afraid. On purpose? On the contrary. I pride myself on being considerate, thoughtful, and well, tend not to skip out on my commitments, because I do understand people have to make a living. Totally get that. But color me crazy, maybe they could let this ONE instance go without being charged? Negative. They in fact did charge my card, which was declined, because I'll be honest, I work at a non-profit supporting families with special needs children and my paycheck is, well, pathetic. So there one "my record", my declined charge remained.
So I give the place a call and after explaining to the receptionist my mistake, and mentioning my situation (yes, I used my son as a reason. I've earned it) that I perhaps, and totally by mistake, forgot that: (A) I had made the appointment in the first place; and (B) to follow up after the reminder. AGAIN, MY FAULT 100% and I do not, in no way, skirt from taking responsibility. I am simply explaining my reason, and asking for a one time reprieve. The girl tells me the policy is in place for everyone, no matter their reason, and that I was "never allowed back to that location until my bill was paid in full".
Ummmmm...excuse me? "So you're telling me if say, I had to be in the hospital, you would charge me?" "No", says receptionist, "that's considered an emergency." Ok, well, is my son's situation and him being sick not in the unforeseen circumstance category? "No, you said you forgot you made the appointment - I understand about your son...." "NO. " I quickly interrupt, "You don't really understand about my son. Just please have your manager call me." "She's going to say the same thing and tell you you won't be allowed back until you pay your bill. " "Ok," I said simply, "I'll wait to hear from her." Scheme of things, $79 is not a big deal, and my time could have been spent in better ways than writing an angry review. But I'm big on principle. And this falls under that category.

Saw several ads for free massage with a 100.00 gift card purchase. Purchased a 150.00 gift card for a Christmas gift and got the card for the free massage. The card expired on March 31. I called mid Jan and was told they were 4 weeks out on appointments. Called back in Feb, same thing. Called towards the end of March and was told at least two weeks. I asked about an extension and was told too bad I should have called earlier. I asked about the gift card refund as the card was for my daughter and she has not been able to use it, she has been getting the runaround too. They said no refunds. I will never set foot in that place again!

I had a scheduled and confirmed appointment for two services, one at 7 pm and the other at 8 pm. The esthetician came out at 7:15 to inform me she was just finishing up with a walk-in. I refused service because one of the two already paid for services would have to be cut short. While sitting in my car, being totally unproductive, the front desk calls to apologize. This apology quickly turned into a disagreement of whether the esthetician came out to me at 7:12 or 7:15!!! I absolutely couldn't believe it! Did it matter? Either way, I would of been cheated out of time I already paid for!!! This seems to be the norm, as it is not the 1st or 2nd time my service was started late. I would never again step a foot in that place if it was not for the year contract I feel I was suckered into signing. I will be looking for real professionals for my next facial and massage! This place is way too unprofessional for me!

I purchased a gift certificate for my husband to get a massage as a Christmas gift. After several months of him not wanting to use the certificate I decided to use it myself. I called and scheduled an appointment to get a facial instead. The facial was very relaxing and the tech was extremely professional. While waiting to get checked out I remember thinking that I would definitely return to get a facial every once in a while to treat myself. The store manager checked me out herself and was very pushy about selling me a yearly membership. After I tried to politely decline her demeanor completely changed and was flat out rude. The facial was relaxing but I walked out completely frustrated. I will never return for a massage or a facial. A business should treat their customers well whether they commit to a monthly basis or would like to just pop in a couple times a year.

To echo what many people have posted regarding Massage Envy's duplicitous practices, I have similarly had a terrible experience with them. When I initially signed with them I was told that there would 6 monthly charges to my credit card corresponding to a monthly 60 minute massage credit. I was told in no uncertain terms that my credit card would not be charged for further sessions beyond this, and that I had a year to use up my credits once the last one was charged. Turns out this was a complete lie. Not only did my credit card continue to get charged for monthly charges beyond the 6 month period, it took multiple phone calls to get them to stop charging further (about 2 months after I realized the situation and first asked about canceling).
My remaining credits - about 300 dollars worth were then expired and I was told I could not use them anymore. Basically, the membership is a scam with a business model built in to fool people into accruing monthly credits that they will never be able to use in the future. This is an extremely dishonest operation and I will definitely never recommend them to anybody. Unfortunately there is little recourse to combat this type of behavior, but people should know not to transact business with them.

I purchased a membership on March 18, 2015 for 6 months, I decided to go back today March 20, 2015 and use this membership! (My first visit was a gift certificate.) The receptionist tells me she recommends aromatherapy, not knowing any better, I did not realize I was being charged $10.00 for it! Now I'm satisfied with the particular masseuse for my first "free" massage, but now the sales pitch begins! I am told that I could have ** anytime I requested. Well guess what, I requested her for my second visit and all of a sudden I cannot have her. Now I am not real happy about it but I schedule with another masseuse!
My appointment started at 6:32 pm, well I felt as if the time flew by because now I'm told my time is up! I get dressed and go to the front desk to check out and I'm told I owe $39.99???? I explained that I just bought a membership and owe nothing, they gave me a song and dance about it not being able to be used until April 18???? Now being totally confused and wondering why, I haven't realized the time of evening it is! I leave 45 buck short and look at my car clock and it's just now 7:30 pm! Ya, you do the math! I got shorted 15-20 minutes on my massage to boot! Oh I called at that point, and had them acknowledge what time it was! I'm calling my bank first thing Monday morning and having my bank info blocked from them! 2 visits and it's obvious that they run a shady business because I am looking over my contract as I write this and see my membership begins on March 18, 2015 and ends on October 17, 2015. That's 7 months! I'm out!

I had a membership for 6 months, I was not able to use them in time, therefore I set up appointments for my husband to use 2 of them. He was not able to go to the appointments, on one I called and cancelled a day or two before the appointment, I was charged for it. The second time I called and cancelled it the morning of the appointment and I was told that I'll be charged 50 percent which I thought it was ok, however I was charged a full credit again. Then on my part I cancelled once the same day before my appointment and I thought I get charged 50 percent, however I got charged full again. That's how I lost 3 full credits when it was supposed to be one credit. Half from my late cancellation and half from my husband late cancellation. This kind of business is not going to keep customers coming back, at least me and my whole family is done with you!

Massage Envy as far as a massage is concerned it is great. However, DO NOT BOOK AN APPOINTMENT. Their cancellation policy is such that you pay full price, fifty dollars, for services NOT rendered. You cancel you pay full price, you late you pay for remainder of time. Cancel due to weather, you pay full price, cancel due to work commitment, pay full price for services not rendered. Cancel due to car accident, you pay full price for services not rendered. Long story short go it is great, BUT do not book an appointment. If you get paid $174,000 like congressman great they will be glad to take your money, however, if you are working class you can probably find other things to do with $50.00. Call around ask if they have a slot open in the next couple hours. If so fine, if not call another place. DO NOT BOOK AN APPOINTMENT.

I talked to them about the weather when they did the reminder call. They said everything is set and fine and weather wouldn't be a problem for cancellation. When we were hanging up the woman said "oh by the way you have to restart your membership or pay for these..." She said the employee was wrong and they talked to her but they won’t honor it!!! Way to wait until now and not tell me until the day of the massage!!! Horrible customer service. They made the mistake and took forever. Very inconvenient.

I was somewhat disappointed. First of all, they told me they were relatively new and I had a hard time scheduling a 'couples' massage. When we finally got the date, I later got a call and was told my therapist had the day off and I would have to reschedule (I scheduled weeks in advance). I tried to avoid Valentine's Day because I figured it would be busy but we ended up doing it on Valentines Day. We got there and everyone was nice. By the time the girls came to get us, it was 8 minutes after my appointment. Then they took time to talk to us and then left the room for us to get undressed.
When it was done, I looked at the clock and we were still shorted! I figured we would start from the time we got in the room. Basically, my appt was at 11. We were taken into the room at 1108. We had upgraded to the hot stone massage which was supposed to be 1 hr and 30 min. When done, the clock said 12:18! Now, even if my math was off, I don't think that is even close to 1 hr and half. Then to make it worse, we were checking out and they told us the system was down.
The only reason we went there was because we had gift cards and wanted to try it out. They said they would take our card numbers down and call us with the balance etc. Well we had 3 gift cards. The hot stone massages came up to about $146 (still 4 dollar balance). I called today and all my cards are at $0! AND I never got an email with receipt or a phone call. I would not go back here again. I don't know if all the stores are like this one but from what I read below, they rip you off not only on time but on gift cards. And if they tell you they will call you or their system is down - forget it. Go elsewhere.
Update - not only have I not received a receipt. They zeroed out my gift cards AND charged my credit card. So not only was I ripped off on some of my gift cards, they charged me for an additional massage! REALLY?! When I called to speak with the manager, not only was I quoted a different price for the hot stone massage - not they are saying it is $100 and not $72 for the first visit, but I was told the manager would not be in and there was NOBODY there that could help me.
Massage Envy will not be getting any more of my money! It went from bad to worse! Spoke to a ** (who says she is the only person that I can talk to). She said my card would not be credited because on the website it says the price. Well, I double checked the website. The $100 was for a 2 hr massage. I never even got the 1 1/2 massage! She said it was on the website and I will NOT be getting a credit. I also questioned her about why I was quoted a different price and that at checkout, the girl verbally told me the total amount (which would have been correct to what I was quoted). I told her I was shorted time and she asked if I addressed it that day. Really? They obviously don't read their reviews or they would see that I am not the first person to complain about being shorted or overcharged. Why isn't it possible to give negative stars?

Massage Envy Monroeville, PA - Yes, I was dumb to sign their contract for a monthly massage for $59.99. The massage was great. My therapist was very knowledgeable and explained what needed to be worked on. I was very pleased with her. I made my appointments as far as their calendar will go, so they knew I was getting a massage once a month. I had an appointment on Feb 3rd 2015. The lady stated something about a cost of $39.99. I thought I was getting some discount for the month. When I checked my account, I was charged $39.99 and $59.99. I called about it and wasn't getting any answer from them about the extra charge. I had to confront them in person because I wasn't getting anywhere with them on the phone.
Soon as I went in there, one lady was smirking at me. After a screaming match I was finally told that because I had my appointment PRIOR to the day of the auto deduction, that it was counted as an extra massage. They knew I get a massage once a month and did not ask for an extra one. They could have told me when I made the appointment that this before the payment date and I need to change. I changed all my appointments after the deduction date. I also asked when my contract is up so I can cancel. I also found out that they have an auto renewal so you're screwed for another year with them when the membership renews. When I was leaving, I heard them laughing.
I gave them a one star rating & explained why on their Facebook page & the main Massage Envy page. On my next appointment, I didn't receive the reminder call. I went in and one female and one male was at the front desk. His response was cold & stated what I want. He asked me if I had an appointment. He said my appointment & membership was cancelled. I told him that you still owe me a massage or give me my $60 back. I also wanted proof that the membership was cancelled. He said he couldn't do that. I told him I'm not leaving until I have proof and my money. The female did a print screen of the record and he gave me $60 cash. I asked to see my therapist & he said coldly he'll see if she wanted to see me. I said goodbye to her & told her I'm sorry that she works for a terrible company.
As I was leaving, The male had the nerve to say to me that I can't go to any other Massage Envy. I laughed at him & told him that you're not the only massage place and I wouldn't dream of stepping into another shady Massage Envy. I considered myself lucky that I got my membership cancelled. As far as massages, they are good. But as far as the receptionist and manager at a certain San Antonio location, HORRIBLE! I called them over a week in advance and told them i needed a massage. I told them that we needed a couple massage for Friday, then the Wednesday before the massage they call saying we were confirmed for a massage Thursday. We specifically told them what day we were going and they messed that up, so we had to cancel because we don’t live in town and they couldn't reschedule because they are always booked. This is why we call ahead, because you can never get next day service. Then i call that we need a massage for two on Sunday and what happens? I call them to set up an appointment a week in advance. They say we are scheduled for me and my wife. They take down our names to make sure they get us both, then the day before they call to confirm one appointment, not two.
And what’s the point of attempting to get another appointment the day before? There isn't. And the manager at this location didn't even try to make us feel better for them making the mistakes. She tried to make it seem like we were the ones who messed that up. That’s when i decided to cancel my membership. Horrible relations with this location.

My wife signed me up for a year of massages through Massage Envy in Clermont, Florida. One of the massages I received, the masseuse was very rough and I was unable to go for a couple of months but continued to pay according to my contract. I started the massages again February 06, 2015 and asked to talk to the manager about catching up on the massages owed to me. Beau, the manager, never returned my call and when I went to get a massage today, I asked him why he didn't return my call. He told me he was told not to by the owner whose name is Debbie not to return my calls. Debbie came out, started screaming at me, told me she cancelled my massage for today and asked me to leave.
When I refused to leave, she had one of her masseuses threaten me (coincidentally the one that hurt me giving me a massage). So the bottom line here is a business owed by a terrible nasty person that go so out of hand that the Clermont police told her to go back inside or they would arrest her. I joined about a year ago. My very first appointment I scheduled was cancelled by Massage Envy less than two hours before I was scheduled for my massage. The person scheduled for me was ill and they were unable to find a replacement. Well, as you probably know, same day appointments are pretty much not available, I had scheduled this days maybe a week or even more in advance. Did I receive any compensation for my inconvenience? Uh, no.
Two other times I had to cancel my appointment for personal reasons, I called and never can get anyone to answer so I left a voice mail stating I had a family emergency and was unable to make the appointment the following day - giving 24+ hours notice as required. BOTH times I receive a call the next day wondering where I am and both times even though I pitched a fit and told them I had left messages I was charged for the sessions, one for an hour and the other for TWO!
Now, I finally caught up on the massages I have paid for and am trying to cancel. Well, I call and someone actually answers but tells me (at 3 pm) that there is no manager, that they can take a message and someone will call me tomorrow. I call the next day at 12:30 and again, someone actually answers and asks if they can help me. I ask if there is a manager in today and am told, "Well yes but they just went to lunch," can I leave a message. I asked, "Well can the manager return calls?" I left a message last night and apparently her lunch and morning at work were more important than returning my call. I just know those Massage Envy managers are worked to the bone...... Yeah.
I am still waiting on my call back. I have sent a certified letter stating I have officially cancelled whether they acknowledge it or not and I have notified my bank to block the auto payment moving forward. The massages I received were so so and, you can rarely get a same day appointment sooo for me it was a pretty big waste. When I hurt, I want to be able to get in the same day and between three shops they could never manage to do that. So, bye bye Massage Envy. It's Groupon for me baby! Cheaper - more options, no commitment and, NO AUTOPAY. :o)

My husband and I were loyal members for NINE years at this Massage Envy. In May of 2014, husband Hand Carried a letter to cancel said memberships. It has been 10 months and they are still calling and sending bills. I have talked to numerous employees at this location and today we visited them in person. Still they will not cancel and leave us alone. Beware. According to the contract the easiest way to cancel is Upon Death. Read the fine print before ever even considering this chain. Apparently good customers are not wanted here. The lack of professionalism and customer concern is zero.

I requested an online appointment for only an hour only. However when Massage Envy of Greystone Birmingham, Alabama called to setup an appointment, he said he didn't have the time requested 3:00 pm but had a 3:30 pm. I said, "Great I can do 3:30 pm, fine book me for an hour message." He said, "Oh you have to book an 1-1/2 since that is the slot for that message therapist." I said I only want a hour not 1-1/2 hours, he said he couldn't do that since he only had an opening for 1-1/2 hour. WTH!!!! He just wanted to sell a 1-1/2 spot not accommodate the customer. Bad for business, I will let everyone know even on FB too!!! It's just crazy business practice. I don't care if your girl has to sit around for a 1/2 hour, she can do another session of another kind???

I've been a member over a year and I asked to freeze my account for the next 6 months but the location I signed the contract kept telling me that is not where I signed the membership and I have to go to Arden location which is about 22 miles from where I live. I don't understand why I would go that far while there are two locations 3 mins away from my house. They don't seem to have their stuff together...it was a hassle going back and forth with the phone calls so I went there in person and asked to freeze my account but they are still charging my account. I called and asked for the manager to assist me but the manager was worst that the front desk agents. I would not join again - will not recommend anyone. Their price is not even that affordable. You can find many other locations in town that offers great service and cheaper price. First timers, don't get caught up by the first time customer's special offer. That's how they got me.

Was unwise enough to sign up as a member thinking that I'd be saving some money through membership. But getting an appointment in the same day, or a convenient time on the following day, is next to impossible. These people are so overbooked that customers need to book appointments days in advance. It seems to me that the only way to be able to get "plugged in" to a session is to be a regular (routine) customer who gets massages for the heck of it on a scheduled basis.
In my case, I'm always seeking a massage on those days that I overdo my exercises or sports and I need a deep tissue or sports massage WITHIN HOURS OR WITHIN A DAY of the injury/stress. (I don't get massages routinely.) But in the eleven months I've been a member I've only been able to get an appointment from one day to the next once. Consequently, I go without needed massages and I've accrued eight unused (8) sessions. I just turned in my "cancellation" form and made my last payment and stand to lose eight massage sessions unless I give them away to others who have time to waste and go in at the convenience of Massage Envy with days of advance notice. I DO NOT RECOMMEND MASSAGE ENVY under any circumstance, not even if you have time to waste, because they really are not any cheaper than any other massage business.

When you're hired you have to give them your registration to hang on the wall. Which prevents you from being able to discreetly finding another job. I was in a bad car accident - totaled my car. The spa refused to let me take time off because the clients had booked three weeks out. Then they booked another person last minute for an hour and a half. So I was completely booked when I should not have been working at all. I got complications with my wrist pain and ended up taking over a month off. I blame the accident on them too. I offered to work the night shift until they found someone else. Once you're there they refuse to switch you because people keep rebooking. Then I worked a 10 hour shift the next day and I started to fall asleep at the wheel. You have to keep an eye on your checks bc they don't always pay you what you are owed.
They tell people what they should tip which is so low - It is insulting. When I left they still had my registration. I called three weeks twice a week. I was told it would go in the mail. Then they refused to call me back. I was told once they didn't have an envelope big enough. So either they couldn't afford the 68 cent envelope or they are preventing me from getting another job. I have called the home office twice and haven't heard back. I have been pleasant to everyone who has answered the phone, but now I am running out of patience. My next step is to call the cops to have them pick it up along with my tax forms which they also have. ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS! Mail me my stuff and they would never have to hear from me again!

The Colonial Heights location wouldn't try to correct the situation. I purchased 2 gift cards from this location on 2/14/2014. These gift cards were for a 1hr massage and 1hr facial. My mother and I decided we wanted to use them Saturday 1/10/2015 for her birthday. So I called the same location "Colonial Heights" that I purchased the gift cards to make reservations. Now mind you at the time I didn't feel like it was necessary to take the young lady's name down. I stated what we had in mind for the date to come in and that we have gift cards for the both of us. She informed me while my mom was sitting with me and listening to the conversation that they were fully booked through the 31st of January. I was shocked and said really?!?!
So I asked my mother when was the next date she would want to go. She said "Well how about we go on Valentine's Day?" So the young lady gave me the times and she started off by giving me the first appointment in the morning. I said no anything later? So we settled on 4pm 2/14/2015. She explained that we would have to be there by 3:45pm to fill out paperwork. I was ok with that and agreed. Didn't like the fact of giving my card information but again was ok with that because we knew we would be coming.
I have had to catch up on some bills from Christmas, so my phone was suspended (There are certain forms of suspension where incoming is allowed temporarily, however, services will still be fully suspended. - Direct copy and paste from my T-Mobile account and can prove my service was suspended) as of Monday 1/12/2015. Now I had no concerns with my phone because I was working 3pm-11pm Monday-Friday 1/12/2015-1/16/2015 being that I get paid Friday and made babysitting arrangements for my daughter with my mom.
So I had no reason to worry about missed phone calls or anything. Well today Wednesday 1/14/2015 my mother decided to pay my cell phone bill even though I didn't want her to. But being that we had an Ice storm she was concerned about my traveling home at 11pm at night and being that I live 25mins from work as well. So she paid it at 4:37pm 1/14/2015. Being that I haven't had service, all my voicemails, emails, etc start coming in. I then listen to my voicemails (which was surprised because I wasn't expecting any, period!!) And the voicemails were from the Colonial Heights location young lady Yasmin informing me of my appointment and that I had missed it and I would be charged!
So immediately I dial the number 804-526-7777. Yasmin answers, I explain who I am and that my service was suspended and that I had just got it cut back on and heard the voicemail. I said "Ma'am I am telling you, when I made the reservation it was for 2/14/2015 at 4pm." "Well we show it was for today and per the terms and agreement by not showing up your card on file will be charged." I was like "Are you SERIOUS?!?!?!" So because of an employee's mistake I have to pay for it... How is that fair? "Well ma'am we called both numbers on file and left voicemails." I said "And I understand that but my phone was suspended. So therefore I am just now getting the voicemails."
She did not state she was sorry or how can I fix this or anything. I finally told her that I wanted to speak to a Supervisor. Lisa I believe was her name, again explain the issue to her and she tells me the same thing. And that they had to compensate for not showing up and that it would be $20 for the each of us and that it would be $40 total. I said ma'am I have no money in that account so now not only are ya'll charging for your employee's mistake but now I'm going to have to pay an overdraft fee as well.
So I asked her what was the card number that was on file. This was just to make sure if I had used mine or my mother's. She told me 8998. I'm like well that's not my card number so I thought it must be my mom's. She as well kept repeating herself that there was nothing they can do. And that both numbers on file were called and voicemails were left on both. So again I repeat myself and getting more frustrated as the call went on that my phone was suspended and even though it may have rang and allowed you to leave it doesn't mean I got it right at that moment!! They did not come in until once the payment was made on my bill only then did I know what was going on.
She proceeds to tell me "Well if it was suspended/disconnected it would have said that when they dialed your number." No ma'am it will still ring like I have service but I will not get anything on my end! I said this wasn't right and that I work in the Customer Service field and this is not how you do business. She never apologized. So I said now I have to let my mother know that her card is going to be charged and (will not lie) hung up on her. I was so upset and having to deal with this while I am at work mind you!
So I call my mom and explain what's going on (a mile a minute because I was so upset) and she's like what are you talking about? I said "You don't have any missed calls or messages from Massage Envy Spa?" She said no. I said "Well then you're going to be charged $40 because we didn't show up today per their system." She said we made it for 2/14/2015! I said I know and explained how upset I was by this and she said just see if we can get refunded for the gift cards because I don't even want to go now! I said I agree but to make sure do you have a card number ending in 8998? She said no (Also my mom is an in-home babysitter from 6am til 6pm. She is at home all day and never once did her cell phone ring or have a voicemail. She has to answer her phone being that she doesn't know if when/where a parent or whoever for a child she is watching is going to call.)
So I am like "Well who's card do they have on file then?" So I decided to call back and clarify this situation as well. Well before I call I decided to check my bank account and when I logged in I was SHOCKED that there was $170 in pending charges (list of charges to my account attached as well) from this location!! This time when I called it was someone I hadn't spoke to and didn't write it down because I was LIVID! I explained as nicely as I could without being nasty what my situation was and that the charges I found on my bank account from them. She said she would pass it along and reach out to the manager. That they would have to review what was charged and why.
So I told her at this point I don't even want to step one foot in Colonial Heights Location and that I wouldn't because I have never seen a customer treated so poorly and considering we have never been to Massage Envy Spa nor have I ever had a professional massage or facial like this before. That y'all have ruined it for me!!! I am highly upset and I want to be contacted by a manager once they review this tomorrow. I said but I am contacting corporate about this because this isn't right and I shouldn't be held accountable for an employee's mistake and especially when I am at work having to deal with this because I didn't want to wait til tomorrow morning to start clarifying this.
I want all of these charges to be refunded as well as my overdraft fees once I know how much they will be. I also would like my gift cards refunded as well. I will not receive service from a company that runs like this. If this can't be done then I will also contact the BBB. This is just the worst Customer Service I have ever received and something needs to be done! I kept getting the runaround and that they weren't going to correct it. So I asked for the owner to call me on Saturday January 17, 2015. No surprise the owner never called me. I had to call him and made it very clear I should have been his top priority when he came in that morning. Then tells me he was under the impression I was calling him. So I told him that this is what I'm talking about! The lack of communication and confusion you have going on at your business.
He was still not going to refund my money and that as a Supervisor I should know his employees had to be compensated for their time. Really?!?!?! I said "I'm very sorry it had to go this way." So my mom said give me the number and the name of the owner. She called me back within 20mins and said my money should be refunded within 3-4 business days. That she asked him "You're in the business to make money right?" He said "Yes that is the plan". She said "Well you won't doing customers this way." So she said "You can refund her money or I've already spoke to a lawyer and we will proceed as necessary". So it took mentioning a lawyer to correct a mistake one of his employees made. But I was refunded finally!

Well for starters, this was my first time in the place. I filled out their questionnaire asking what areas I wanted the girl to focus on. I circled it, got the total opposite done. I walk out half asleep, they sell me their BS about how great their membership is and like a half asleep idiot, and I signed up. The next day, I wanted to cancel due to the hundreds of BAD reviews from all over the nation about this ** establishment. Of course they didn't allow me to cancel without a doctor's note. I'm pregnant so I got a doctor's note, walked in with it to cancel and the girl says, "Okay you're all cancelled in our system". I'm thinking to myself this chick must be stupid if she thinks I'm going to walk out without documentation confirming it was cancelled.
I asked for proof of cancellation. She says, "Oh, you can fill out our cancellation form." Okay, why in the hell didn't you say that before allowing me to walk out? So I tell her I am writing my member ID on the form before she makes a copy. She agrees. I tell her to write on the form explaining that no funds will be automatically withdrawn from my account. She disagrees. I said okay, as long as she signs and dates the cancellation form that should be sufficient enough. She told me that after I was done signing my part of the form she would sign her part. She makes a copy and hands it to me.
As I am looking at the form for accuracy, the other girls began talking to me, which was a distraction. I say thank you, walk five steps out the door and realize the girl never signed/authorized my cancellation form. I walk back in; tell her she didn't sign it and that I need her signature. She says I'm putting into the system right now. I was going to sign it after. I'm thinking, sure you were after allowing me to walk out the door AGAIN. I'm willing to bet what she signed wasn't even her real name. I ask her to print me a copy of what she is putting into her system. She said no.
I'm thinking wow the reviews are so true. No wonder why everyone wants to sue the ** out of this place. By this point, I'm livid. This broad is pushing it. I left and looked over the terms and conditions along with the cancellation form again. It says you have 30 days to cancel or the next month's payment will be deducted from your account. I cancelled exactly 30 days before the first payment would be deducted. As I looked at the date she wrote in under "date cancelled" it had the next day's date as my cancellation date, which would exceed the 30-day cancellation period. It would then put me at 31 days when I cancelled. THAT is why she didn't want to write that there would not be any deductions taken out. She knew she was going to screw me over from the beginning.
Slick little witch. I'm walking in there tomorrow and demanding her to change it. I closed my credit card so they won't even have a chance at deducting the first month's payment. Hopefully they will find out by reading this otherwise they will when they go to run my card. I followed their ridiculous cancellation policy by bringing a valid doctor's note and following their 30 day cancellation policy and they still tried to screw me over two more times. I have already begun telling friends and family to stay away from this so-called business. Oh and by the way, for lack of a better word, the little witch that cancelled my agreement didn't even say thank you! How about that for a membership?

In other words, I could accumulate massage sessions and was not limited to having them within 12 months. However, after I had paid over $600, I was told that I could not use the 6 massages I had accumulated because my "12-month period" was over! Of course, I did not have time to do this.
I hate Massage Envy. They deliberately rip people off and then lie right to your face. I joined and signed a monthly contract in 2010. I did not go every month so I had several (as in 6-8) massages built up at any given time. My contract expired and I was switched to a month to month payment. As I only went every few months, I called in September 2012 to book an appt and was informed my membership was cancelled for nonpayment and I had lost my 6-8 massages that were built up in my account. I spent a lot of time going back and forth on the phone with the manager Christina as I had not been notified of this. Her response was that my credit card on file had expired and they had attempted to contact me via mail. I never received mail from them despite the fact that I had forwarded my mail from the home I previously lived in (7 miles from my new home) and my ex husband lived at my forward address and had given me any mail that slipped through the cracks. After several phone calls back and forth, Christina offered to reinstate my membership with a new card on file and give back my owed massages that I had in the account. I declined as I had a bad taste in my mouth and had heard numerous complaints from various neighbors, friends and colleges about similar issues, as well as reading several online.
I then received a call back from the manager stating that my account had been suspended and their documentation showed they had made several attempts to call me and contact me by mail and listed supposed statements I had made when dealing with the previous manager. When I explained that that was not the case I was interrupted and told she was not going to argue with me, they have documentation.
I then went on to express my frustration and mentioned the numerous complaints they have against them that are online (in addition to word of mouth I have heard over the years) and her response was "anyone online can say anything, it doesn't mean it's true." Hmmm....well, I would say the same for the "documentation" they have in their file regarding my account. It's interesting how my situation is very similar to the complaints you read online about their 'contract' and billing practices. She proceeded to book my massage today and said she would be happy to speak with me when I come in but did not have time to discuss further on the phone, and that the documentation is what it is. I guess their documentation usurps the thousands of complaints documented on the internet.
I will be going in for my massage and NEVER returning to that 'business' after. I've also read online that there are numerous class action lawsuits against them, but again those must be false claims because anyone can say anything online. What happened to honesty and integrity in business? What happened to doing the right thing and changing practices that are obviously unethical so that one can maintain respect and confidence in their services? It's very frustrating, and sad.

I spoke with a supervisor and asked if I should see a doctor. She said the pharmacist diagnosis was sufficient. I used the antifungals and thoroughly cleaned my sheets and towels. F.Y.I.--ringworm is not that easy to get rid of.
I am now left with keloid scars on the front of my legs. I stopped in the aforementioned Massage Envy and showed the supervisor my legs. She told me I need a doctor's written statement to verify that I got the ringworm from the massage. I told her they need to get their protocol straight--the first supervisor I spoke with said I didn't need to see a doctor. I asked her to refer me to their doctor, she said they would not do that. I have cancelled my membership and am left with the scars as a reminder.

The Massage Envy Class Action Lawsuit is Hahn v. Massage Envy Franchising, LLC et al., Case No. 3:12-cv-00153 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California. Just want to let all those who were wronged by ME about this class action lawsuit. You're not alone. I too am having an issue with ME particularly with their cancellation policy. They will go down in history as a name you cannot trust. ME gives legitimate massage businesses a bad name. I would never use this company for any services. Quite frankly, there are too many other wonderful spas and independent therapists that offer great service and professionalism within their business practices. The founder of this company was once quoted as saying, "the secret to franchising is the expectation of the brand." I find this as particularly amusing in light of all the similar complaints against this company and the mention class action suit.

I went to Massage Envy because my Close friend said she went there and they have a first time experience Price. I was thrilled, paid cash, didn't want any mishaps & proceeded to Leave. The therapist asked if I would like to set an appointment and I said no. I can just call when I need another massage. Then as I was checking out, the young girl asked if I wanted to become a member. I said, “What does it entail? What are the benefits?” She said, “You can come in to pay the $59 each time month to month & it takes the place of your 1 month massage.” I said specifically what if I want to cancel, because this my first time & I don't know how long I want to continue. She said, “That's fine as long as you cancel BEFORE your next Month.”
Then she proceeded to look at the computer & said which will be on the 1st of the Month. I said, “OK as long as I cancel before the 1st I won't be charged for the next month.” She says, “Yep that's it and Oh, a Credit Card on file just in case you make an appointment and don't cancel in time.” (I have had cell phone service before as Month to Month so I know how it’s supposed to work.) She signs me up with my Credit Card and I go! I was so happy to be able to enjoy a relaxing massage to reduce my inflammation.
Well after the next month, it was kinda getting expensive. My fiancé' and I were moving & decided to cut unnecessary expenses. I called on August 27th, well before the 1st to Cancel. The girl goes “OK, but you have to speak to management.” I thought that was odd but waited anyway. She immediately gets defensive asking "how can I help you?" I said, “Well I am cancelling my account. The girl told me to cancel before the 1st of the month before it renewed for the next 1 month, so I didn't want to be charged with any fees.”
She said, “Let’s see. Well you're 10 months in.” I said 10 months in to what? She says, “Your Contract...” I said what Contract. “Well when you sign up it’s for 1 year contract.” I said, “I signed NO CONTRACT for 1 year - that's Ludacris!” Who signs up for a massage for a whole Year! I didn't even know HOW Long I would use it that's why it’s month to month. The young girl said ALL I had to do was to Cancel before the 1st. She even checked to make sure it was the Correct Date. I SPECIFICALLY Asked her what happens when you want to Cancel. She said she would call the Owner to see if she could do 'Anything' about it.
They have 'Tried' to charge the card but Bank of America has since ceased all Transactions. What they are doing is Illegal and Has to Stop. I am also going to BBB and the news if necessary. Legal counsel is already underway. Stay away. They are Evil... I couldn't believe they can't stand on their own integrity instead of DELIBERATELY trying to scam Clients. I have canceled my Account Legally on August 27th, the day I called... Please Note That. Thank You.

I signed a contract back in July, then had an emergency where I wasn't going to be able to pay the first month. I called and spoke to an employee about freezing my account. She told me it was no problem, so I assumed that it was taken care of. Almost three months later, I received a letter from a collection agency for past due amounts. When I called and spoke to the owner, she claimed they couldn't freeze my account because I hadn't made a payment. She also claimed they had called me numerous times, but I checked my call log and only had one missed call from them that I never realized was from them! Now they refuse to cancel my account or work with me to pay off the balance. Terrible service and incredibly rude management. Never go to the Hudson, Wi location!!!

Their recommendation is that I gift my massages. I have accumulated 9 massages and if I do not renew they will eliminate the massages that I have been unable to use. They are thieves. I would not recommend. You can obtain massages at salons for a similar price as needed.

I was given a gift to the spa. The massage was good. I was asked to join the membership with the understanding I had a 3-day cancellation grace period. Because of my unstable job, I needed to go home and evaluate finances before a firm commitment. I decided to cancel the membership during the grace period. I called, sent an email and hand-delivered a copy of the cancellation email in person to the location. Today, I checked my bank account and discovered Massage Envy drafted the membership fee from my account. When I called the location, I was told my file did NOT show a membership cancellation and the manager was out of the office and then the manager was on a conference call.

I want to tell everyone TO NEVER EVER APPLY FOR A JOB AT MASSAGE ENVY. I know this only happened at one place, but who knows? Maybe it happens elsewhere too. No matter how much you need a job, do NOT let these idiots screw you over. (Of course all of my contact info is fake because I don't want issues.) So, after the first day of applying online, I got an interview! Which is great because I really needed a job. (This was for a sales associate position.) Everything went great, I was given a script to go by which was (no exaggeration) A PAGE LONG with tiny text. I have good memorization skills, I've learned two different languages besides English so no problem. I memorized and came back the day after next. I got the job! I was so excited although I messed up (a lot) on reciting it back because I was nervous.
Anyways, both managers told me that I would be excellent for the job. I was so happy, I cried tears of joy the whole way home! After that I came in to fill out a bunch of papers (nothing out of the normal) and the hiring manager is out. So, I gave my papers to the head Sales Associate. I get a call a couple of days later to come in and start training. Here's where it starts to go wrong. I had to learn a HUGE workbook of everything. I found it kind of wrong that in the workbook that the text pretty much said to trick the customer out of their "STALL" or "OPPOSITION", Meaning: that when the sales associate is pitching you the "WELLNESS PROGRAM" they are going to argue with you if you say something like: "oh, well I don't have the time, or I travel a lot, or I have to think about it." They are going to do whatever they can to get you to sign the 6 or 12 month contract or "agreement" as they put it. That's how they get commission. So, after this. It takes FOREVER to get any days in to have training. I had to call to set up training days pretty much every time. And we would only go over one or two sections.
After the second training day, I was told my papers (the ones I had signed in the beginning of this mess) were lost. LOST?! WHAT?! My SS number and other private information was on those papers and you just casually lost them?! So, I had to fill them out, again. Whatever. Most of the time, I had to wait on the manager that was training me to arrive that day and I was almost late myself. And I also had to put up with them being VERY sick. (BY THE WAY: I didn't have a job at this point, so I had no income except from the help of my boyfriend to give me gas money to get back and forth. This was a good 35 minutes drive there and another 35 minutes back.) By the way over the course of this time (1 month) I've only been able to be there for 26 hours total. So a couple of days ago, the manager tells me during the training: "There are no wrong answers and now is the time to make mistakes." Okay cool, that helps me practice and get better!
I'm a very conservative person with the way I speak in front of others, so I stutter a lot and I'm just kind of shy. But I'm a hard worker and I do the best I can and I love to learn so that should be what matters at this point of the training. So about 7/8 way through of the training, they close the door and tell me that I'm just not that confident and that they are going to have to discontinue the training. So this was a GIANT waste of my time, their company time and everything else. Some of the people like the manager were very nice but others were stuck up. So I don't need them. I have better places to be. So yeah, bottom line, don't sign up with Massage Envy for anything. They're not worth your business. And seriously don't apply for a job there.

I just got cancelled for the THIRD time in less than THREE months! I like the "therapist" I've seen (seen a couple different ones), but they are just not reliable! Last year I had a car accident and wasn't able to make my appointment and they still charged me for the missed appointment... This charge was congruent with what it said in my contract, so I sucked that one up. BUT... On May 25, about 2 hours before my appointment I got a call. "** is having car trouble and won't be able to be here for your appointment." After I ranted for a few minutes, I finally got them to agree to comp me by adding 30 minutes to my account - whoopiee... at least they "gave" me something for my trouble. I felt like cancelling, but I decided to reschedule since I THOUGHT they were trying to accommodate me.
The next available appointment with that therapist was in July. (Yes, it was May, but I thought he was worth waiting for...) July finally came and the morning before my appointment I got my confirmation call. I was excited to finally use the service again. Well, that afternoon I got a second call - "he was in a car accident and can't be here for your appointment." UGH - ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I had numerous months on my account, and wanted to cancel my membership, but they convinced me to use another therapist - the guy I had been seeing was really good, but clearly wasn't reliable, so I agreed to try someone else... I actually had a pretty good experience with two subsequent appointments with the new therapist - I met with her twice in July in order to use up some of my banked massages. Things were looking like they might be ok. Not so fast...
Yesterday afternoon I got the usual confirmation call for my appointment at noon today. All was well. HOWEVER - I got a call at 9am that she is "really sick and cannot come in today." I'm SO done with Massage Envy. The person that called me tried to appease me by suggesting that I talk with her manager, but then had someone else call me back. I'm not sure who that second person was, but she proceeded to argue with me and tell me that the front desk has no control over when the therapists come in or don't. I understand things happen, but THREE times with two different therapists in THREE months? REALLY - is that how you run a business?
They have no contingency - at least not at the center I've been using... So no big deal if they cancel your appointment, but heaven forbid you don't show up for an appointment - they make sure they get you coming and going. I'm truly DONE with them and even if I have to sue them I WILL pursue getting my money back - obviously I can't use their services if they continually cancel my appointments, so now they have to return the 4 months’ worth of payments in my account there! DONE.

My husband and I occasionally went to Massage Envy (once every 6 months) or so and one time we went and were talked into getting the membership. By talked in, I mean that they offered to sign us up. I said, "No, we wouldn't be able to afford to go soon", as we were buying another car and a house. They said no problem we could cancel at ANY time. Seemed like a good deal. So we signed up.
Well, 5 months later, we needed to cancel so went in and they said, "No, you cannot cancel till the year is up." I told them they said I could cancel at any time. The lady's response: "no". That was it. I froze my account for 6 months to try again later and they said, "Well your account has been frozen so you have to pay another month and we still can't cancel." So I called the managers there. Names are ** and ** at the Highlands Ranch, CO location. Each of them told me something completely different about why I would never be able to cancel, blah, blah, blah.
After weeks of arguing with **, she finally agreed to cancel our memberships. But we had to pay for another month, you see. We were tired of getting screwed over by them lying to us, so we recorded this conversation. She told us we had until August 20th to use our credits. I called yesterday (August 18th) to use my last one and she had no recollection of anything. Surprise, surprise. She said my account had been cancelled and I could come in at a non-member rate. I explained that I had till the 20th and still had 1 credit left. She argued some more etc.
BEWARE!! Massage Envy steals from you. They lie, they cheat, whatever they can to get money and screw you over. DO NOT SIGN a CONTRACT!! I wish I had read other reviews (from all across the country, with similar situations) before I sold my soul to these thieves. I will NEVER give them my business again. - Another burned Massage Envy customer.

After signing up for my membership on 9/21/2013 at Hulen Street location, Fort Worth, TX I was told that I couldn't request a specific masseuse but would have to take the next masseuse on rotation. I said I would prefer ** each time and the girl at the front desk said that was not possible. I told her I didn't like that policy and again in booking with ** each and every time and that I would do that in advance. She said that wasn't possible. It was late so I left but said I would call the next day and speak with the manager. I called the next day a left a message for the manager to call me back after relaying the details of my call to the lady who answered the phone. I received NO phone call back from the Manager at the Hulen location.
A couple of weeks went by (it was now in November, which according to the membership I could only have one massage per month for the dues I was paying) and my girlfriend and I made appointments at the Massage Envy closer to my house at the Montgomery Ward’s location on 7th Street, Fort Worth, TX. We both went in at the same time. I wasn't in the room fifteen minutes when I told the masseuse I wanted a new masseuse because she wasn't doing a good enough job as I was directing her from the first time she put her hands on me. It was very clear she didn't know what she was doing. The manager said she didn't have anyone else available at the time and she would gladly comp another service like a facial for the bad massage I had just experienced. I waited for my girlfriend and she said she had a bad massage as well but paid for the massage anyway.
I came back several days later for my complementary facial. While the facial was somewhat better than the massage the lady who performed the service rushed me through the facial process within 35 minutes and talked constantly the whole time even after I had explained that I would like her to be quiet so that I could relax and enjoy the experience. I was supposed to receive a one hour relaxing facial as the Manager had told me I would receive - but didn't.
The next day I started calling the Hulen location again trying to talk to the Manager and leaving messages because I wanted to cancel my subscription. The young lady that answered the phone said that I would have to call the Plano headquarters and ask for the bookkeeper to cancel my membership. I called at least 7- 10 times over a 3 month period - left messages - but received no phone calls in return.
I did nothing else because I was too busy to stay on calling them over and over to no avail. I received a call today, August 9, 2014 at approximately 3:17 pm, from ** at the Hulen Street, Fort Worth, TX location. She said that my credit card company had denied the automatic charges on my credit card since April of 2014 and that she was calling to get me to give her a new credit card so that my payments could be brought current. I told her good! I've been trying to cancel this membership since November 2013 and no one would call me back. I then told her the story above. She said that didn't matter that I was obligated by the contract to pay whether I got bad service or not. Really!!!??? What merchant in their right mind trains their staff this way!? I told her I would not pay for bad service and that I would not give her my credit card number.
She went on to tell me that if I didn't pay up that when my service ran out in October of 2014 that they would send my non-payment history over to a collection agency and that I would have to pay the back non-payments plus the charges from the collection agency. She also said I could get a written notice from doctor stating I was medically not able to get massages anymore and that would suffice in me cancelling my membership agreement but I would have to pay the back non-payments current before the membership would be officially accepted and that she could cancel my membership immediately. After reading my membership agreement she doesn't have any authority to cancel my membership even if I did everything she stated above. She just outright lied about it.
I hope I have demonstrated to anyone reading this recollection of events how important it is to not sign an agreement with this company ever. You get screwed any way you go with them. If you want a good massage but don't get one - too bad - you still have to pay. If you try to cancel a membership no one will call you back. The membership agreement states everything in their favor BUT none for the customer. I hope from my experiences it will save someone from going through what I've gone through. Don't do business or sign any agreement from Massage Envy!!!

We knew that any unused services would be lost, but the point for us is that we did not want to continue.
So I called in April. They ignored my request to cancel. Then I got into it after they called me again and I spoke to Nancy ** at the Corona Location in California. My wife joined M E under similar circumstances in Escondido. When she called to cancel her membership, she was given the same story about holding off for 6 months, so she could use her remaining massages. She called to cancel because because the service was never really that great, both the massages and front desk and because she found that using other massage places, due to her extensive travel, was quiet honestly much more convenient. They told her that she had entered into a contract, not sure about the period and that the remaining months would be debited to her card if she cancelled. The last business, which is no longer in business, at least in So. Cal.
As they were forced to declare bankruptcy, had contracts similar to M E. Who knows the details of the reasons for their financial troubles, but I would venture to say that consumer complaints regarding their billing practices was part of what caused their failure. Look up Bally Total fitness on Wikipedia and read the investigations and controversies section for details on suits brought against the company for fraudulent practices. It is beginning to "smell" like M E is creating a similar "hole" for themselves. I am continually amazed by how some businesses think they operate with little disdain for their bread and butter, us consumers.

I have been getting massages now for over 20 years, and my wife bought me a gift massage at a Massage Envy. We had never tried it, and she thought we'd give it a shot. The gift was for an hour massage. I made my appointment, and was threatened with being charged for the massage whether I showed up or not. This was not a good beginning to a relationship, but there it was - take it or leave it. I took it, and I showed up a half hour early just to make sure everything went smoothly.
I filled out their questionnaire and their paperwork - most of which was a very see-through repeat-business ploy. I played the game anyway, figuring I was a newbie, and I should just enjoy the experience here. One of the receptionists took my paperwork, and proceeded to try to get me to sign up for repeat massages - something I thought was a little premature since I hadn't even had one massage yet, but I refused, telling her I appreciated it, but was just there to try them out.
She took me to a waiting room. My appointment time came and went, and no massage therapist came to get me. Ten minutes later, I went to the front desk and asked if everything was okay. They looked at me like they didn't even know me. The receptionist who interviewed me asked my name, and she looked me up. She told me the name of my therapist, and that she would be there shortly.
Ten more minutes go by, and finally my therapist shows up with a smile, like nothing in the least was wrong. I got ready for the massage, and the therapist talked almost non-stop about how stressful HER life was, and how it was difficult to juggle her kids, her ex-husband, and her job. After 35 minutes of my 1 hour massage, the therapist thanked me, and handed me a payment slip that requested a tip - insisting that the tip be for 15-20 percent, and even giving me a chart to circle the proper amount.
I dressed, and headed for the receptionist, my mind a flurry of how to handle this situation... As I approached the receptionists, they both smiled, and one proceeded to pressure me into setting up another appointment! These people suck. They never did give me any compensation for what happened, only smiled and said that they hoped the massage was good, and that I'd come back. A total screw-job, and a sales pitch from the beginning with no regard for the quality of service rendered.

I really don’t know where to start… I happily joined Massage Envy in Saugus, MA back in 2012. During that year I was only able to get a massage the 1st day. They were never able to find my account. Anyways a year later, I went to a diff. location to cancel. They said they did. Then I realized that my account was still being charged throughout all of 2013! Then I complained to 3 different locations. I was told that I could not get a refund because they don’t do refunds so they did finally cancel my membership and gave me 2 months to finish using my 11-12 massages that I had paid for!!! 12 massages to which I could only use 4 because I ran out of time, and after those 2 months I was not able to use them again. Those are 8 massages they charged me for that I could not use… services that I shouldn't have been charged in the beginning because I had canceled my membership a year ago.
I am losing $400 of services here because when though it was not my fault that they hire incompetent people to work at their facilities, I was still not able to get those services as gift cards to transfer to other people or to use in a future. The manager in Saugus, MA technically was forcing me to use couples massages or get 2 hrs massage and facial so I could use all of the 12 services I have paid for before I ran out of time. For personal reasons I couldn't use the massages during the 2 period time they gave me. I just don’t think it is fair that I losing my money and I was not able to fully get the services I paid for even when It was not my fault but theirs what happened to my account.

They are really nice until you have an issue. I was a member over a year and had no complaints. I needed to have a shoulder surgery that was going to take several months to recover from and I was unable to lay flat even to sleep for over 4 months. I called them to discuss the issue and was told by the manager that my account could not be put on hold and I had one month to use what I had already paid for if I canceled my account. There was no way I could use them and asked if I could give them to someone and was told I could only give one and that would cost me an extra $10. I was also told that if I canceled my membership and in the future wanted to come back, then I had to commit to a year and start all over again. Months later, my husband gave me a gift certificate for a massage and when I went to use it, the special price had expired and I needed to pay more.

After being a member for two years, I called to cancel my account because of the departure of some good therapists and my inability to find one that was good among those who remained. I also was receiving physical therapy and the massages were actually doing me some harm, according to my physical therapist. So I needed to stop the membership. When I tried to do so, the woman at Massage Envy told me not to cancel, but put the account on hold for 6 months after which Massage Envy would contact me to start it back up. She said if I did nothing after those 6 months, the account would automatically close. She said that way if one of my favorite therapists returned and my physical therapist recommended I could return to getting massages, I could go back to Massage Envy, and not have to rejoin at a higher rate. I figured I had nothing to lose.
27 months later (!) I get a call from Massage Envy asking for my credit card number (My purse was stolen in Spain so I had a new account). It was then that I learned that Massage Envy had reactivated my account (without telling me) a full 21 months prior and had been billing my husband's Visa card every month, even though I clearly was not coming in for massages! It turns out they did the same with my husband's account. (He was told the same thing as me several months later when he wanted to stop his massages due to the turnover in therapists. And they were billing him for 11 months without informing him, calling him to ask why he wasn't getting his massages, or sending him the Massage Envy member newsletter that we got in the mail previously when we were members!)
This is clearly a bait and switch scam! If it weren't they would have refunded our money with an apology. Instead, they claim it is their policy to reactivate these accounts and just start billing! That is fine that it is their policy, but they should not have employees who lie and they should not reactivate accounts without informing members, sending them their newsletters, and calling them to schedule an massage!!! Clearly this is all part of their business plan! My husband and I are very savvy consumers, but we were definitely conned by them. If we can be conned, I know there are a great many other potential victims! (I was, by the way, a little upset with my husband for not noticing the charges but this is a card that has a high monthly average bill so the charges were buried).
In trying to resolve this matter over the past 6 months, I have talked to 5 different individuals who all claimed to be a store "manager." Some of them would say they would look into the matter and call me back. But they never did. One woman "manager" at this store agreed last summer/early fall that a mistake had been made. She offered to refund half of the amounts charged and let us use the other half of the amount charged in massages. I refused this offer as I never should have been charged when I was receiving none of the benefits of membership for all that time!
What kind of a company does that? An unethical one! I have since talked to additional managers, this time with a representative from VISA on the line as a third party witness (thank goodness I use Capital One Visa who is willing to back me up on this!). Visa has tape-recorded the phone conversations and their reps have been as aghast as I am at the different responses I've gotten from the local store. Next we tried to contact their corporate headquarters, and they have no phone number contact!!! What does that tell you about this company???
Anyway, I've been charged nearly $2,000 for (21 months on my account, 11 months on my husband's account) for massages never used. And the store refuses to set this right. At this point I'm taking it to Corporate. From there, I will move to do more of this - report it on consumer sites, report the fraud formally to my Visa card (they have wanted me to try to resolve the matter with Massage Envy first, and they have been very helpful witnesses to this process). I also plan to contact a friend from my earlier days as a newspaper reporter who does investigative journalism. Hopefully he will find others in southern California with similar stories (some of them have complaints I noticed on this very site). And, lastly, I will contact my local representative. My mom got a very good result when she did this. And, of course, I will spread the word to my many colleagues and friends about Massage Envy. And I do hope that we will soon see better laws regulating businesses that think they can charge credit cards for services never delivered!
Please Join me ripped-off consumers of Massage Envy in writing your elected representatives about this problem and asking for better laws. And inform your credit card company as well! Together we can put a stop to this kind of bait & switch practice.

I have been a member at the River Oaks location since 2008. I get massages every 2 weeks. The staff are always smiling and welcoming. They even offer me complimentary sugar foot scrubs for my birthday! I will say though, you must call in advance for your appointment bc they get booked up pretty quickly. But other than that, I think it's a great place and a great price!!!!
I'm quite surprised with all these negative reviews. I read some and the main complaint is about the membership. It's quite simple... Perhaps you should read contracts before you sign them??? You pay a monthly fee, in turn you get a one hour massage credit. Yes, you sign a 12 month agreement. You agreed to that when you signed the dotted line. If you don't use it one month, they roll over. I don't understand how you don't understand? It's call reading.

I made an appointment on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014, for a hot stone massage on Feb. 17, 2014 (today) @ 6:30 p.m. I have been a member at Massage Envy for quite a long time and have a massage at least once a month. I went to the Massage Envy in Royal Palm Beach, Fla. for my scheduled appointment only to be told that I did NOT have an appointment for that procedure at that time. The girl at the counter said that there was another named person scheduled at 6:30 and that she could not speak to the employee that scheduled my appointment because I could not remember the name. What difference would it have made. I didn't have an appointment. She said the girl must not have locked in the appointment.
I left before saying something I would be sorry for because that is not my way of handling a problem. Some manager in this place needs to tell the girls that work the counter to be more careful in their appointment making. I will be going back and I will MAKE SURE I have the name of the person that makes my appointment. And when she asked me my name and I told her what my first name was, she said another completely different name back to me. That made no sense. I know my name.

This happened when I was in a 1-year membership... I woke up the day of a massage and felt like death warmed over. I was coughing and sneezing and knew if I tried to lay face down on a massage table, my nose would be dripping the whole time. I called Massage Envy as soon as they opened that morning to reschedule. I was told they could reschedule but since I was calling with less than the required notice (I think it was 24 hours), I would be charged for the massage. I was stunned. You could tell easily that I was sick with how I sounded (I'd partly lost my voice even). I said to the woman "Okay, fine. Then don't cancel my appointment and if you are fine with my coming in there and hacking, coughing, and sneezing my germs around your entire facility, then that is what I will do." And I was prepared to do just that. She backed down and said they would "try" to rebook the masseuse and if they could, I wouldn't be charged. She said she would call and let me know. Of course I had to end up calling back because I never heard back from her, and was told, "Oh yeah, we rebooked her, you're fine not to come in." It left SUCH a bad taste in my mouth.

One day, I noticed in my account and called them. They said I should have called Massage Envy to cancel. I accumulate unused sessions. I canceled my membership and I had a month or so to use those. How can I opt to use so many in a month? They are expensive.
I looked over the web to find the same issue many other customers as well. I called the manager to verify the same and she said it's their mistake that the computer automatically kept charging my bank. I had 7 sessions unused. She refunded 3 and 3 to use. Their membership program is a ploy to continue to collect fees from you without a commitment from them to deliver their service. I too got caught unable to use my prepaid massages in time to the tune of over $500 and they wouldn't allow me to receive the services I paid for in advance. If you don't keep paying a membership fee, you can't use the massages that had accrued and been paid for. I don't understand how this company stays in business with such a program that collects money and then refuses to deliver the service.

Upon trying to make an appt., the receptionist told her she had to give her a credit card number to hold the appt. The problem is that if you miss your appt., i.e., death in family for instance, they charge the $100 to your credit card as well as keep the already paid $100 gift card. That's a 100% mark-up. They are located on Market Place Blvd. in Cumming, GA. They do not refund the gift card money and mostly have a male named Fred working the afternoon. My wife would prefer a female and was told she could walk in at 8 or 9 am to see if there was an opening and not have to use the credit card. My problem is after they hold your credit card for the appt., they also hold it in their system which could be accessed by anyone working there. They are not BBB Accredited and have 2 complaints resulting in a score of "F" for failing to respond to the BBB. What are they hiding there at MASSAGE ENVY? We are filing a complaint with the Gov-GA Consumer Affairs as well as contacting Clark Howard for now.

So if you start your membership at a location and move 200 miles away, you must still cancel any membership with them at the location where first established. But in late 2009 or early 2010, I had spoken to a Manager at the Folsom, Empire Ranch location and was assured that everything was taken care of. They said my account was cancelled and that I did not owe them anything.
I was mistaken and obviously misled. Two years later, after zero calls, messages, letters, etc., from Massage Envy, I get a call from collections stating that I owe Massage Envy over $1,100. I have since tried to contact their corporate office (how can I trust the location I went to when they claim they take care of things, but don't) but the only available contact information is an email address, which I have tried twice but got no reply. I have called the individual locations requesting a number for corporate, but even they do not have one. My contact information has not changed at all. If something was wrong with my account and that manager did not do what they said was done, they could have contacted me months/years ago so that my supposed cancelled account wouldn't be accruing 2 years of membership dues.

I signed up for a membership at the Arizona Tatum massage office. I was told that it was a month by month membership by the person signing me up for this membership at the time of sign up in July. I was told, at that time, that I could quit at any time with a 30 day written notice to the Massage Envy clinic at which my membership originated.
I turned in a written notice on 9/13/11 to the AZ Tatum clinic. It was received and dated by V.V. on 9/13/11. I was given a copy BY V.V. She said that Massage Envy would charge me for September and I had to use that service by October or I would forfeit that charge. She said that no more charges would be applied to my charge card after September. V.V. also said a manager from this office would be calling me within 24 hours to confirm. I never received a call from a manager.
I called a week later to the office and spoke with another manager. This manager said V.V. should not have told me that I could cancel. I now have different employees telling me different cancelation policies. Are these people not trained on the cancelation policy? Two employees tell me one cancelation policy and a manager tells me another cancelation policy. They are very misleading and confusing.
This Manager said I could not cancel for a year. She said that the contract I signed up for was for a year. At no time was I ever told that I could not cancel for a year by anyone until I talked to this manager today. I was never told in person, at the time I signed up for this membership, that I was locked-in for a year. I asked the employee if this was a month to month contract when I signed up. I was told it was. I also asked how to cancel the contract if I no longer wanted to belong to the membership. She said that I only had to submit a 30 day notice in writing to massage envy clinic at which my membership originated.
I find these tactics to be misleading. The person you're signing up with never tells you that this is a locked-in contract for a year. Why would they not tell you that at sign up? This manager said another manager was going to call me. Am I getting the run around?
I looked online at your company and it seems to be that there have been a lot of complaints about this happening to other people. They seem to deceive people and not tell the truth at the time of sign up for a membership on the true cancelation policy.

My husband and I stood there frozen because both of us had paid for the membership that we haven't even used. The contract does not say that I cannot use my sessions after membership expires.
When I called to make an appointment, she didn't say that my membership had expired and that I have to pay $100 for each of us. If I knew, I would've gone to better and cheaper places. So they just stole thousands from us? She then goes on explaining that if the membership expires, all my payments just goes away and no one can do anything about it. This place took from us $2000.
