I was concerned about falling so I decided to get Medical Alert. The reps told me what everything was and it was fine with them.

Everybody at Medical Alert was fine. But I'm sending the device back. I haven't been happy with it. I thought that I would have more mobility with it. They have the wrist thing and I thought I would be able to just wear that when I left the house. But I found out that can't communicate so I still have to carry the main unit with me. I tried that one, carried it in my purse and I ended up setting it off by accident in my purse. I live on a farm, and if I have the wrist thing on and I go down to the barn and I accidentally bump it and set it off, I don't have any way from there to tell them that it was an accidental thing. I had maybe a half a dozen instances setting it off accidentally. I can alert people with it but I can't communicate. Things like that just bothered me. And so, I have a cellphone and I'm training myself to keep it with me which is gonna serve pretty much the same purpose.

I have a balance problem. And if I fall, I have a very difficult time standing up. After I took a fall, my son in California sent me a Medical Alert. With this device, as long as I'm within the 600-foot range, I'm fine. I feel safer. It's only good for a small range and I know that there are ones that have GPSes that are good for no matter where you go.

I have fallen a couple of times and I had no response from Medical Alert. Fortunately, I was not injured, but I don’t like to think of what might’ve happened had I been seriously injured. I wasn't satisfied with that. But other than the few times that Medical Alert has not responded, I’m satisfied with them as well as the people I've spoken with.

I feel safe with my Medical Alert because I live alone. My experience is going very well. My device is heavier than the one I had before. And this has a sensor in it where the other one didn't. In fact, I think it's too sensitive. I bend over or get anything out of the washing machine and it goes off. The time that I used it for myself, I was very satisfied. I had a terrible pain and I wanted to make sure it wasn't something that went away, and then I pushed it. And they were here in minutes. My son spoke to somebody there, and I'm waiting for a new one. This is only for my house, and he wanted it for the rest of the building and around. They said they were gonna send it out and I would get it in a few days.

I’m happy to have it. A couple of friends of mine have it as well. When I was in a different location, and I called in, Medical Alert couldn't find a location. Last year, I did get hooked up ‘til two days before I came back home. I had a very bad experience for them to connect me. I'm gonna be in Florida and I don't know whether or not I should tell them a week ahead that I’m gonna use the second relocation. But their customer service was good.

I have several neighbors that take good care of me, but I live alone. All of them kinda got together and said I would have to do something to take that off of their minds. They couldn't come running down every five minutes to see if I’m still upright. So, I agreed to getting a medical alert system. I value them greatly, so I kinda wanna do it and that keeps everything going together.
But I have a very sensitive skin and it aggravates my skin when I wear the necklace. I would like to use the bracelet as well but that’s really bad to put on because it irritates my skin, too. Other than that, I’m not having that much trouble with Medical Alert's people. There's a lot I can't understand about the system but it's not their fault. It’s something we have to deal with, but it’s aggravating to me because I don’t know what the system is. I know that they are a long way away from me and it’s hard to communicate with them. I can’t hear them very well and that’s always a problem. But it gets better as soon as I notify them that I’m not hearing them.

I'm 91 years old and my husband is two years older. When we decided we needed Medical Alert, he had fallen several times. The first time we used the button in an emergency, it was a bitter disappointment. I turned around, and when I did, I just fell. It was more like inner ear problem. Six weeks before that, they had called about buying a keyholder for the front door, which I ordered and put the set of keys in there. So, when I punched the button, Medical Alert called our son and daughter-in-law and that’s the routine. That was what they were supposed to do. And then call the fire department and the police.
I kept expecting them to come but nobody came. I telephoned Medical Alert and the lady said, “Are you hurt?” I said, “No, I'm not hurt, but I can't get up.” She said, “I will get somebody there.” Nobody ever came. 20 to 30 minutes later, I called back, and the same thing. My son and daughter-in-law who live 15 or 20 miles away came in and he got me up, and that was it. If it ever happens again, Medical Alert should try to get somebody to come. My son and daughter-in-law came from another county and, of course, they were worried to death. And they both have keys to get in the house. I don't know what happened about the keyholder and the fire department.
I called and talked with customer service, some woman, and she said she would call me back. I never heard from her. This happened on a Friday night. And on Tuesday, I called and got a man, he said, “We're gonna give you a free month.” I have it taken out of my master card account every month, and I paid the bill yesterday and it's still on there. I pay $39 a month, and that’s trivial, but I'm gonna follow up on that and get my free month. Having bought the keyholder a few weeks before, I felt comfortable because I knew they had access to get in the house, but it sure didn’t work. I certainly was not satisfied with it. If my son and daughter-in-law had been out-of-town, I would have had to go to the grandchildren, and I can't imagine what could've happened.

I’ve had Medical Alert for about 12 years and so far, I haven’t had any problems with them. Their reps have all been nice. When I fell in the bathroom, I called them and they answered right away. Medical Alert is about $20 more expensive than others. And several times, I had thought of changing, but I hadn't because I’ve had good service from them.

My husband wasn’t well and I got the Medical Alert for him. But now, I really could use it because I’m very shaky, not doing well, and not balancing so good. So, I’m glad I have it. In case something happens, I will have someone to call. At the beginning, I didn't wear the device. But when I fell, I started wearing it more. It’s very annoying, but I wear it anyway. I feel more secure with it than when I didn’t have it. Recently, they sent me a new device and it kept on activating on its own. If I would press on it lightly, it would start the screaming. But they fixed it.

Eight days ago, I needed an ambulance and no one ever responded. I couldn't get an ambulance. I did it three different times and all three times, I had to call the fire department. Medical Alert team told me I wasn’t in satellite. But everything’s fine now. I’m in the hospital. I've had it for three months before that happened. They did regular testing on it but I don't know what they did and I don't care because I figured they don't care enough about me. I just won’t deal with it. And so, I told them to cancel it. I’m no longer willing to have it.

I got a Medical Alert based on word of mouth from friends. I just wear it at home and so far, the only trouble I have with it is it goes off every once in a while. It doesn't do that when it's hanging on the hook near my bed, but it does it when I'm wearing it. It's been doing it more than it did the first few years I had it. The Medical Alert team is very nice. They would come on and say, "How can we help you?" Then, I'd tell them, "It's a mistake."

In 2011, I had a heart attack and I haven't been sick since, but my sons wanted me to have the Medical Alert. So, I take the device with me when I go out because you'll never know. But to me, it takes a bit long for them to contact you once you call in or push the button. I'd be better off calling 911. Still, when I'm out, I have the Medical Alert device to carry around. It's a pendant and I have the watch that you can put on. And you have a little pack that you carry that is smaller than a deck of cards. If anything happens to you and you pushed the button, at least they know your medical history and they know where you are.
One time, I had an emergency but the system didn't work for me and I told them that. But it worked out okay. They appeased me and did not charge me for a couple of months. Also, they've changed the device three times. I knew there was something wrong because it didn't work the first time. But they called me and said that they had a low battery signal coming from the pendant. So, they were gonna send me a new one and they did. Then one other time, they called me and said that it wasn't responding, so they sent me a more modern one. And so, this one that I have now appears to be working, though I haven't had the need to use it.

I’m living alone and if I would fall in the building that I live in, there's no way anybody would hear me 'cause it's near soundproof. I figured that everybody is prone to falling some time in their life, and I didn’t want to take a chance on falling and laying there, especially if I didn’t have my phone with me and couldn’t call my kids. I haven’t had any problem with the team itself, but I do with my Medical Alert. The bracelet is so touchy. I was in the grocery store one time looking at stuff in the grocery, and it went off twice. I wasn’t doing anything in that grocery store that should have set it off. I just don’t wear it anymore. It just drives me nuts. It went off another time and I had the police department here. But it was my fault that I set it off, and my door was shut so I didn’t hear that they were asking me if I was okay. Their response doesn’t take any time at all. Overall I’m very satisfied with them.

It is my opinion that anyone who is looking for a alert system should stay far away from this company. That is, unless you enjoy being hassled by probable commission-hungry salespeople. I called this company, along with all the others, seeking information. I did not award my business to this company, but that did not stop them from bombarding me with unwanted sales calls. When you call for information, they have captured your number and have all the information they need to become serious pains in the southern region. I finally answered their sometimes three times daily phone calls because I recognized the number.
By the way, the number they use is disguised to look like it is a local number, a ploy used by all the other obnoxious telemarketers. When I answered, I asked the harasser to please remove me from their call list. She rudely hung up the phone. Calls to the sales supervisor went no better as they seemed offended that I did not want to hear from them any longer. I'm a little perplexed that a company like this would allow such rude behavior to the people they're trying to sell to. Fair warning, if you call them, do it from a payphone or you will be subjected to call after call, they just won't leave you alone. It is my opinion that a company who utilizes such heavy-handed sales techniques may not be all that trustworthy in case of a medical emergency.

I've already returned my Medical Alert as it didn't work for me. The button kept falling out of the holder. Also, when I wore the thing around my neck, it would hang down and every time I'd lean to get something, that would set it off and then Medical Alert would call me and ask to know if I needed an ambulance. Also when I wore the arm part, somehow the button came out.
I had a different device in the past and it was easier to use and wear. It also had fall detection. However, when I was painting the trim on my house and I was 20 feet up on a ladder, I fell and landed on my head but it never went off. it was several hours before I got help and then I spent a month in the hospital. On the other hand, Medical Alert's response time was fine. While it was handy to have, it was a hassle and it was inconvenient.

This has been the absolute worst experience I've ever had with a company. First off, they jerked me around for a week and then I finally get a unit and it doesn't work. Spent a total of 5 hours on the phone waiting to speak to someone. I left a message and no one ever called me back. They spend the next week calling my mother everyday to convince her not to cancel the defective product, upsetting my mother immensely.
Now it's been 2 months and I can't even get a call back for my refund of 140.00. I am sure I will never see that money back again, even though the unit was returned immediately once we realized it was defective. I can't even reach anyone to inquire as I am on hold for hours at a time waiting to speak to someone. Anyone considering using this company would be regretful I'm afraid. Save your money, time and energy, and use someone else. I will post this review online to save more people the hard earned money and be sure to encourage all I know not to use this system. Their customer service is non-existent. I got burned for 140.00.

In the beginning of the year, I didn’t have an alert system. My daughter was with me but she went down to this other place for a couple of months. I put a plastic on my contour chair to sit down and it threw me down between the foot part and the seat part, and I couldn’t get out. Two days before that, I fell against my desk and hit my shoulder. So, when this happened, I couldn't pick myself up when I finally wiggled out of the chair. I was on the floor from 10 o’clock Friday night until 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon because I couldn’t lift myself up. When my daughter came over, she pulled me up and we went to the hospital where I stayed for a couple of days. I had to get a system and I didn’t have that before. Now, I couldn’t live alone for a month which forced me to get Medical Alert.
I tripped and I fell down in the laundry room. I cracked the frame that goes around the Medical Alert wristband. Then, I had another one that it fell out of the wristband. We ordered one and we called them because they were supposed to send it. It has been a while since they took the order and we haven’t heard from them yet. I also had an experience that I didn’t realize I had the bracelet on. I went into the garage to get my car to go to church in the morning, and hit it and didn’t realize it. They ought to give you some type of a vibration on your arm to let you know that you set that off. It doesn’t do anything so you don’t know it. You just go right on your merry way. They called my daughter and my neighbor, then they called the church. She saw me in there so she told my daughter I was in church. So, that was a bad experience. It scared everybody in the block.

And I have to use a manual wheelchair when I get somewhere. I’m wobbly. I don’t have good balance and I have fallen in the past. I’m accident prone. I had a whole bunch of accidents and it made me feel bad. I got a device from Medical Alert and I’ve had good success with it.
Whenever I do mash my button, which I call as my little pager, and then they talk, I have a hard time hearing them. I nearly have to sit on top of the speaker to hear what they’re saying. If I’m a little bit away from it in the room, I can’t hear them. Other than that, Medical Alert is the first one I’ve ever owned and this is the one I’m sticking with. I feel a little more secure since having it. I know I have help at the touch of a button and that’s nice because I’m in a home somewhere between 12 hours a day by myself, so just to know I do have help if I need it, I appreciate that.
I used my device when I got cut. I got my big toe caught in the back door. They came and they got the bleeding to stop, bandaged it up really good for me. I also had to be carried to the hospital. I remember mashing the button and they got me to go to the hospital. I appreciate Medical Alert being there for me if I need somebody. That means a whole lot to me. It makes me feel a lot better.

The rep explained the difference between the two over the phone, which actually made everything so much clearer. Having Medical Alert has given my grandmother more security. She is older. She’s 82 now and she was falling a lot. She was home by herself and we were all concerned. The device is comfortable for her too, although she hits it a lot and she keeps us running to turn it off. Still, we recommended it to my grandmother's sister and she has it now as well.

When my husband passed away and I was gonna be alone, I decided to get a Medical Alert. Also, I’ve had a problem with falling a few times and I thought it would come in handy if somebody was to break in my house at night. I could use it to get some help. I always have it on my arm when I go to bed at night and I can use the bracelet better if I have to. One time, I walked out to my mailbox and I picked up a garbage can coming back. It got a little windy then the air caught in the can and set me down on the ground. I could not get up to save my life, so I happened to think about my Medical Alert bracelet and that was very pleasing to know that somebody was on their way to get me up. Right away, I heard the sirens coming my way, so they came straight out and lifted me up. I would recommend Medical Alert.

I live by myself and I have three children that thought it’d be advisable to have this Medical Alert device. I’m certainly glad that they convinced me to have it. I wasn’t comfortable with it at first because I never had anything around my neck before, but it’s comfortable. When I take a shower, I lay it right by the door of the shower and that’s the only time that I take it off. Once in the middle of the night, about 2:00 in the morning, I rolled over and I must have set the device off because their people were talking to me and I had a response immediately. They're right away and that's a good thing. I am very pleased with my unit.

I live by myself and I'm 86 years old. My daughter got this Medical Alert just in case I needed help with anything or if something happened. I know it works because not too long ago, my neighbor's cat came in, jumped up on and hit the button on my box. They came right on. I told them that I'm all right and there isn't anything wrong with me. When I go to bed, I just hang the necklace across my bedpost and if something would happen to me at night, I could just reach up and press the button. I'd recommend it to anybody.

Wearing the Medical Alert device is a pain in the neck. When I put my pants on, it gets in the way. It’s just a little bit too long. But it’s something that if you have an emergency, you’re really glad that you have it on. I have accidentally set it off one time. I dropped it or handled it roughly, and I got a call that something was wrong. But I said I was just a little rough with it and the guy said okay.

I’m a high-risk patient and I’ve had a heart attack. I also have diabetes that I’m having trouble controlling and take several medications to try to counter that. One of the doctor’s offices I was going to put me in touch with Medical Alert and since I worry about having another heart attack, I decided to sign up with them. I have the system for a couple of years now and I’ve had very little contact with their reps. But they have been okay.
I was getting plagued a couple of months ago with accidentally setting off the device and I kept trying to find different ways of wearing it so it wouldn’t do it. I found out I had to wear it under my shirt and turn it backwards to try to prevent accidentally bumping of the button. Since I did that, it’s been a lot better now. But one morning around 7:00, I was sleeping and when I rolled over, I set off the device. But I wasn’t aware of it. Then, my daughter came by to visit and was here talking with my fiancée, and the police and fire people showed up. So, I know it works.
I also feel better about having it, especially since I went to the newer one. The first one I got was really more for my wife and unfortunately, she passed away in March. Then I decided I was gonna switch it over and get the mobile one because I’m going all over the place, getting groceries and going to doctor’s appointments. And because I’m going over the hill and doing all that traveling, that made me even more appreciative of taking this thing with me since it follows everywhere. It helps a lot.

I fell and fractured my femur so my family thought it was time for me to have some device for protection. I researched it myself by looking at magazine articles and TV advertisements. Since I belong to AARP, I decided to go with the Medical Alert because the price was right. I have the necklace and the wristband. I take it off when I leave the apartment because I do not have the GPS. The wristband can be sort of bulky but I prefer the it to the necklace. When I was wearing the necklace, I pushed the button by accident and it started, and it was very efficient. It came right on. The people came on the line immediately. Then I had to call the company one time because I needed to go down to the hot tub and I completely forgot that I had the bracelet on. I sorta panicked. I asked them if the heat destroyed the effectiveness of the bracelet. We tested it and it was fine.
The only thing that I don't like in the whole medical alert business is that the fees are so expensive. Every increment protection that you buy, like the GPS, the button that can be installed in the bathroom, the sensor device that can be put in your system, or the protection plan if you break the device are extra payment which I think is terrible. You have to pay $10 or $12 or $15 per feature. The device is costly enough as it is and I’m not gonna pay those a month. But Medical Alert got excellent service.

My cat stepped on it once sitting on my lap and rolled over one time in bed on it and set it off. They called immediately and I told them that it was just an accident. However, I got a letter from Medical Alert a day before yesterday, saying that I had signed up for a product protection plan, and I don’t remember signing up for that at all. I had another medical alert device before and they said they were Medical Alert but I don’t think they were because I couldn’t get through to them. I had shingles and I got real sick, but when we tried pushing the button, there was no answer. Then the button went dead and when I tried to call the number I had for them, I kept getting this company, Medical Alert. So I decided I was just gonna get started with Medical Alert. I stopped the other one and got Medical Alert, and I've had no problems whatsoever. These guys care. With the other one, I didn’t feel like they cared if the device worked or not because they wouldn’t even call me.
I know that Medical Alert is there. There would be times I would get down on the floor to get something and I wouldn’t be able to get up. Although I don’t have that problem anymore, I know that if I really have a hard time, Medical Alert is gonna answer right away. In fact, the thing I'm having problems with is if I'm in a place where I go pressed up against something, they call me in. But that shows me that the button is working. That’s the only good thing. And they're right there. With that, I know I'm good and I'm sticking around. I also like Medical Alert because I did that once with the other company and they were cranky. With Medical Alert, I check it out about three times a month and the people there are very good because they put up with me. Medical Alert is wonderful.

I had also had issues with falling but I had never used the alert system. I got up on my own and went about my business. Then I had a call one day from the system and they said they would like to update the one I had. That was how we got a new one. I just want to have it for security. I thought I would have to get it because you never know what can happen. But when I look at it, I say that if something is gonna happen, it's gonna happen. I wear the one on my wrist and I don't take it off. I wear it to go to work and I sleep with it at night. Sometimes, I will come downstairs and see the light on the button come on. Sometimes I'm at work when it goes off and I would call the home, trying to see if anybody is there. I would ask if they heard the Medical Alert button go off and they would say no. Then sometimes, as I come home from work, somebody might show up at the door and ask me if I'm okay. And whenever I've seen them, they were nice and very good.

The first time I fell, I was putting my lawn tractor in the garden area where I keep it, and I put it in neutral. Then I jumped off and went to open the gate. Somewhere, another had jumped into gear and run over me, both on my legs. I was pinned between the tractor and the gate. I finally got a hold of the tractor and pulled myself up, and then I could open the gate. That time, I hurt my legs. Since then, I have fallen three times. I fell in the backyard mowing the grass and I couldn't get up, so I crawled across the driveway and pulled myself up to my motor home. With Medical Alert, I feel safe in my home with no problem. Added fall detection when called but would only do as another charge to card and send gift card. Fall detection never received 'lost in shipping'. Decided they weren't a trustworthy company and sending unit back, they became very nasty when asked for return shipping and threatened to charge entire quarter even though sold as one month trial and the rest of three months cancellable at any time with unused portion refunded.
Hi Eric,
I looked into this complaint and see the fall detection button was with your unit, but was held up by FedEx in GA.
I see Tina was given a $25.00 gift card for the inconvenience and that your unit was received and activated.

You can push those in the house but they only work in the room where the major device is in. It won't work anywhere else in the house, so I don't even use them. Nonetheless, I used another medical alert service before and Medical Alert is better. They have insurance on all the equipment, and the other one didn't. I had my one device for two years and it was okay. But it became defective. It started to constantly put on a recording day and night saying, “Your device is now charging.” I got very nervous about that and I told the device's company about it, but they weren’t able to fix it. I called what I thought was another company, Medical Alert, and they told me they were the same company.
Their response was good when they answered. They answered in a timely manner. But the problem was the malfunction of the equipment. Now, the other equipment I have is not working. This is the third set of equipment. The first time, it worked for quite a while then it got defective. But it never fell. When I rang it just to check out if it was working, the response was good. But now, it’s not working at all. The red light is flashing and there's a green light. I tried to unplug it and plug it back, but it’s still not working.
Medical Alert said they are gonna send me a new equipment on Thursday or Friday. It’s a holiday week and on Sunday, there’s no mail. They could have sent it through Federal Express though. I’ll also have to send back the old equipment. The sooner I get the equipment, the better. I need it. Medical Alert is good when it comes to emergencies. But if the units are not working and malfunctioning, what’s the use? I paid on a six-month basis so they should give me a month’s credit.

Once I wanted the team to check it and for the next 15 minutes, I would be off and I said, “Hey, I could walk away from here” and they would put me offline for 15 minutes where they wouldn’t see if I fell or whatever. I would push the button and be there and they would tell me “This is a test,” and they won't cut me off for 15 minutes. Once we got that straight, that was fine. I feel secure. I test my device, right here, and I tell them, “This is a test.” Then they put it right back on and ready. If I turn away from it and fall or something, I’m ready for that. Wearing the device is a hassle, but I want it over not being able to have it. So, whatever the things that I don’t like about it, I’m happy that I have it because I feel comfortable and assured. I’m very satisfied.

I have a history of falls and I learned about the medical device on television. I got Medical Alert and I've had it now for 3 years. My experience with the company has been tremendous and there has been no problems at all. They are very cooperative and willing to meet my needs. I have fallen and their response time was excellent. The representatives have been very good whenever I dealt with them. I wear the device around my neck and it's fine. I don't even know it's there. It was a problem in the beginning with me because I would drop it, and I didn't realize that when I dropped it, I would set the system off. Now, I'm really careful how I handle it when I take it off my neck. I usually lay it flat on the kitchen table instead of hanging it over a chair. I don't drop it anymore too.
I feel very secure and safe with Medical Alert. I wear the pendant when I'm in the apartment and also outside. When I go out, I take the mobile unit with me. Before, I took the pendant nonchalantly. So one time, I went outside to smoke a cigarette and I wasn't wearing the device then I fell. Had I had the Medical Alert around my neck like I should've, I could've pushed the button and help would've come. Then I would've gone right to the emergency room. Instead, I got myself into the apartment and I waited a couple of days 'cause I wasn't quite sure what I had done. When I went to the emergency room, my wrist was broken. I thought it was just sprained. I broke my wrist and it required surgery and the insertion of a metal plate. That taught me a huge valuable lesson to wear the pendant around my neck at all times and I take that more seriously now.

If I fall, I like to be able to press a button and get help. I had a different service in the past but then when I accidentally hit their device and they said they'd be with me, it took too long. So, I switched to Medical Alert and thus far, their reps have been fine. Though they can answer a bit sooner, it has been a good feeling to know that I can get help in a few minutes.

I lost a leg and my relatives said that we need to have something which would allow me to give the alert in case I fall. I got Medical Alert and I don’t even know that I’m wearing it. Then I test it every eighth day of the month. I would alert them that I’m asking for the test and I haven't had any problem at all doing that.

My daughters kept telling me I'm gonna fall down and I wouldn't be able to get up. That's why I got the Medical Alert device. But my problem is with the necklace. I had to get the second thing because the first one wasn't working. It has some little stickers with numbers on and those irritated me down between my breast. Also, there is a little thing where you adjust the length of the necklace and it has that little thing sticking out there. That gets to my chest. But those things aside, the Medical Alert device is a good thing to have. I pushed the wrong thing one time by mistake and they were right there. They were okay to deal with too.

Medical Alert is really a good service. We’d definitely recommend it for somebody. Our mom is getting older and although I live in the home with her and most of the time, I can be here, I have grandkids and I gotta run around here and there on occasion. If something were to happen – if she would fall or get panicky for some kind of medical reason – she can press that button. We got it for everybody’s peace of mind and our mom is real happy with it. In fact, she just had it all re-certified and got a brand new unit. She hasn’t had to use it but it’s been really nice to have around when we’re not around. We've also tested it and it's very loud. Once a month, my sister or my daughter goes through it with my mom.

I got the Medical Alert device because of my husband. He was sick but he has passed on and I just kept it. I feel okay about wearing the device but I don’t wear it all the time. I haven’t had to use it as well but it’s there when I need it and if there’s something wrong. However, I was thinking about calling someone to cancel it because it is not working right. The light stays on and it says, “Power and trouble.” Then, a red light will come on sometimes. Still, my experience is very good and I'd recommend to somebody.

I've had very good experience with the team at Medical Alert. I feel secured because I have three devices I can work with. I use the one when I walk ‘cause it has a GPS on it, and it knows wherever I am if I fall down. In the house, I wear the bracelet. I don’t like the necklace dangling over my neck, so I have that on my bed post so I’m covered.
I just got a new bracelet that’s upgraded that they’re charging me $10 more a month ‘cause they said it was improved. I feel very secured with it because I don’t have a cell phone. This is like a cell phone. I can talk into it when I want to. And then I try to remember every month to have Medical Alert check my devices, and they're very good about that. I’ve been very happy with the device. And my late son and my daughter did a lot of investigating before they decided this is what they thought was best. Because at that time, Medical Alert was the only one that had the GPS. Fortunately, in the eight years that I’ve had it, I’ve had no reason to use it. I’m 98. I can take care of myself so far and whenever, wherever I go, I carry the device in my purse.

I’m afraid of falling and then can’t get up because I’m 91 years old. Everybody's gone a lot and a medical alert device was more of a security for them, knowing that I could get ahold of somebody. I make sure that it’s close to me. I feel a lot better when everyone is gone that I can have somebody if I needed it and quick. I have the thing that goes around the wrist. I have a little hard time getting that on being my fingers don’t work right. But I have the Medical Alert device to where it's hanging on my walker more than I have it around me. My son gets on me on that and says, "You have to have it in your pocket because there's a chance that might not be close to you." When you get to be 91, you'd feel safer when you got something like that around.

My niece got the Medical Alert device for me and I don’t like it. I'm too old to have Medical Alert. I don't go anywhere. I'm home and I got a nurse who comes in. So, there is nothing that I do. I appreciate it but she's afraid I would fall. I'm very careful though. I’ve always had the big one and I've had that for years. I only have to press it every month. That's all I'm supposed to do unless I'm sick or I have an emergency. I also got one hanging on my bed door. It’s sitting right behind me. I'm either here sitting in the living room where the big one is or in bed where the little one is. So, I don't need the button that goes around my neck. I'm always moving my arms, crocheting and reaching for things. I'm afraid I'm pushing the button for no need. Still, the experience with Medical Alert has been excellent. I showed it to my friends and I told them that if I cannot catch my breath, I push the button and the staff will come. I love that.

In Dec, I called a few times to speak to an agent about our account, more specifically her wrist band. The customer service was terrible. I called 3 separate times and I was never able to get anyone on the phone. I would either get transferred to the voice mail for customer service or the department was closed. Jan 3, I decided to call the office again to cancel my subscription due to bad service. Long story short, my mom ended up falling and hitting her head, resulting in her being hospitalized for 3 days. Medical Alert then turns around and says, our devices do not work 100% of the time. Then what the heck am I paying for?

I've been waiting for over a week to get a refund and they keep saying it's been processed and put back to my card. My mother signed up for automatic renewal - taking advantage of an elderly woman - and they clearly had nothing signed by me to charge my card and did so fraudulently. I keep telling them that I did not give them authority to charge my card and they keep saying my mother signed up for automatic renewal - I say, "Then charge her not me," and they simply don't care. I've called 4 times and have confirmation numbers and they say they don't care about the conf # that they gave me. CROOKED place to do business. RUN away!
Hi Dennis,
After looking into this, we see the account was refunded $549.89 on 2/12/19. We received the Mobile Elite unit on 2/18/19, but not the Fall Detection Button. Normally, there is a $150.00 lost unit fee for the fall detection button which we are not charging for as a courtesy. This account was set to auto pay which means we did have prior approval to charge this account. The auto pay feature could have been turned off at any time but we were never notified.
We are very sorry that you feel this way about Medical Alert, particularly since the unit was used in October of last year to dispatch emergency services.
We value our customers and are always working to provide an excellent customer experience.

Easy to get into, but when time you don't need them is not customer service you talk to but the collection dept and it does not do what they say they will do. They wait and bill you for another month and say you hadn't request anything. The only thing they send out is a label which I didn't get, once you get the label then you send back the equipment first then the companies cancel your account and charge you another billing. These companies are ran from but outside the US.

I’m getting clumsy and I’m afraid I might fall down. But when I didn't have my Medical Alert device for about a month, it quit working. I called them and they told me to send that old one back then they sent me a new one. They also told me to take it off when I go to bed because when I move around, that sets it off. But there were lots of times that I would forget and go to bed with it at home. Also, I work at a shop and I’m always laying down. I would be underneath the car working and when I roll over, that sets the device off. So finally, I just put it up. It's just too much trouble. I also called them once and they transferred me over to somebody else. I was gonna pay them for a year at the time but the rep was sarcastic with me so I hung up and threw the device in the drawer. I'm paying 40-something dollars a month but I don’t need it.
I hated that thing you gotta wear on your belt. We used to wear pagers and I hated those things with a passion. I didn’t know that I had to wear that thing all the time and I do the same thing with this Medical Alert thing. As for that watch band thing, I was always sticking my hands somewhere and setting that thing off. If I just had one device, like that thing hanging around the neck, that would be fine. But you have that thing hanging on your belt, that one hanging around your neck and the one on your arm. That thing that hangs around your neck needs to have a speaker in it. So that’s all I would have to wear and if I fell down or got hurt, all I would have to do is push that button. It also needs something so you wouldn’t have to charge that battery up on that thing all the time.

In fact, I believe every woman or man who lives by himself should have something.
I've had Medical Alert for four years and I don’t worry now. When it's gotten pushed, it's always been an accident and when that happens, they call me. One time I was not at home and I didn’t know I had pushed it. I had pushed the thing around my neck and the white thing was up at my hotel room. I didn’t take it with me because I was with my children and figured I didn’t need it. They called and of course, they couldn't get ahold of me. They tried to get ahold of my son and when they couldn't get ahold of him, they called the gatehouse of the community I live in. She knew where I was and that I was all right so she called my daughter and then my daughter called Medical Alert. I used to accidentally touch the button a lot because I kept it in my pocket when I walked. But I'm not walking as much anymore so I've not had any accidental pushing.

I was falling a lot so I got the Medical Alert device. I used it for an emergency, and the team asked me if I was okay and if I was not physically hurt. I would fall and couldn't get up, and they would come to pick me up. They sent the ambulance and they had to bring me to hospital once. There was another time where they came and picked me up and then brought me to my chair where I sleep in, and they left.
My device is okay and I'm fine with the band. But I can’t stand it on the neck. I wear it on my wrist, and it’s okay. I can bathe. I have a walk-in bathtub, and physically, I can take care of myself with washing. But sometimes, when I go to the bathroom and I have to pull up my panties, I lose my balance and I fall back on the toilet seat. I broke my toilet seat and the hinges. I fell back on it. Just this week, I had to hold the button again to make it comforting for myself. And so, it’s okay to have this button to push in case I can’t get up, and I can call them. And sometimes I can go to the box quickly enough to tell them that I’m okay.
The thing is I have a box in my kitchen, and it goes off too often. I haven't been falling and I’ve been doing good. I can’t walk too good and I can’t talk too good anymore. But I did not push the button, and yet that goes off, and then I have to rush to my kitchen to put the button down, and then I do not call them. And sometimes I would be on one end of the house, and that goes off. I had to rush quickly to the box because it’s so far away from me. I would not want someone to come unnecessarily. Medical Alert is good to have because I know I have a way out, and it’s comforting. Whoever wants to have Medical Alert, I would recommend it but only if they would give them decent choices.

My husband was falling a lot. Most of the time, I was here and I could get help to get him up. However, sometimes, he would be out in the garden and I wouldn’t be here, so we thought it would be a good idea to get the Medical Alert for him. He didn’t like the bracelet because it would slide around to the underside of his arm and then, when he would go to get up such as in a recliner, he would cause the alert to go off. So, he decided that he was not gonna wear it anymore. So, part of the time, he wore it and part of the time, I wore the necklace which we also got, so I could call for help to help him. That was the original plan and then, when he got bad enough, we had to put him in the nursing home.
Not too long after that, my son-in-law’s mother fell in the bathtub. She laid there from 1 o’clock to 5 o’clock. She called for her husband but he didn’t hear. I thought that I’m here by myself now and I need to wear it. After that happened, I called Medical Alert because I was thinking that I needed to have the fall thing. I got on the deal that if I fall, then somebody will know about it. Sometimes, I would accidentally activate it if I press a jar or something to my chest to open it. All of a sudden, it starts saying, “Emergency! Emergency!” So, I come in here, turn it off and hit clear. We’ve never had them actually contact people to come and help us. We’ve always been able to do it ourselves but it’s good insurance to know that we would have help if we needed it. I didn’t feel I needed it when there were two of us here at home but after he was gone, I thought, “Gosh, it could happen to me.”

I found out my potassium levels and sodium levels dropped really low. When it drops really low, I get dizzy and fall down, and then I don’t know where I’m at. Somebody comes and finds me. I got a medical alert device just in case I fall down. The last time I fell, I was in a nursing home. I called Medical Alert then. They were nice. They explained the button and the charging system, the device that you have to keep on charge. But I didn’t realize that you gotta take that little device with you everywhere you go. You gotta put it in a case and put it in your pocket, or it’s not gonna work if you leave the house and go to the grocery store. It won’t work within 500 feet of the house, unless you got that little device with you.
I’ve tested the button on my necklace. I’ve accidentally punched it a couple of times, and they said, “Press the button within 33 seconds, unless you need help, to clear it when it’s a mistaken call.” So, it clears itself. I’ve always been able to clear it before they sent an ambulance out here. Having that service makes me feel more secure. I also got a box on my door for a key. If I fall, I’m not able to get up to go to the door. Since I hadn’t had any calls, they ought to give me a non-use discount on this thing. But I’d recommend them.

I’ve had a couple of mishaps here and there, and on one of them, I wound up on the floor in my apartment. For five hours, I couldn't get up. Luckily, my neighbor finally came home. And after that, I was like, “I better get something.” I got a device from Medical Alert. It came with the lock for the door, and I gave each of my neighbors and my daughter a set of keys. So, they have the information that they need in case they have to get in to help me. I gave them the code, so they won’t have to break down the door. Medical Alert told me to test my device, so I test it every once in a while and it’s been working okay. They say, “Just a minute, we’re getting to you,” and then the man gets on the phone. Their response takes not more than five minutes. It could always be quicker. If you’re having a heart attack and they don’t answer right away, you would drop dead before they answer. But they usually seem to pick up fairly quickly.
I have the device that looks like a cell phone, which is on the outside of the house. It said I had to press the top of it if something happens, and it has a button on the top and it’s supposed to blink. And on the inside, I wear the bracelet. They also sent me one that goes around the neck and that is very sensitive. So, one time when I had it on, I went to lean over for a minute, and the thing started going off like crazy. I didn’t press anything and I got a little nervous. So, I just wear the bracelet one, which seems to be okay. It’s not as sensitive. I’m used to it now.

I'm 87 years old and I live by myself, so I felt that I needed a medical alert device and I got one from Medical Alert. It's very comfortable. I'm very pleased with it and I will not get rid of it. But I wasn't good about wearing it till I fell. Fortunately, the day I fell I had it on so that convinced me that I need to wear it every day. The Medical Alert team was fabulous and I can't say enough good things about them. They were here in no time and that was great. But after they got me to the hospital, I stayed in a carrier for four hours so that wasn't great and I wasn't pleased with the hospital. But the people from Medical Alert that were with me were wonderful the whole time. I had an excellent experience with Medical Alert and I was very impressed with them.

I'm just wondering if I should take that speaker thing with me when I leave the house by myself. Other than that, I wear the button around my neck and it's comfortable enough.

The Medical Alert device is good to have. When you fall in middle night, early morning or whatever the time is, they get to you quick. Most of the time, they have to take me to the hospital because the sugar don't go up quick. They're always there for me and they would do what they have to do. Also it doesn't take them a long time to come. Their office is nearby to me. I wear the button around my neck when I'm in the house. I don't wear it if I'm going anywhere. I have a different button that they gave me to wear if I'm going on the road. I live alone and I'm really happy to have them. If I didn't have them, maybe I would have died already.

When I was much younger, I had a lot of health problems. I'm 88 now and I've had Medical Alert for at least 20 years. I first got this neck one. I also have a bracelet one that I never wore. There wasn’t any reason to do it and they're very uncomfortable. They're almost 2.5 inches wide and very bulky. I've tried to replace this one, and evidently, they don't make that black cord that you can make short or it gets long to take off. The ones that they have now, you can't adjust them. But I'm happy with what I have now. I would definitely recommend them. I feel very, very, more confident in myself in knowing that I have something, or somebody that would come if I had a problem.

I’ve seen Medical Alert advertised in quite a few places and I thought it was a good recommendation seeing them advertised in drugstores than different places, but they never seemed to have them in stock. The reps were very good with the way they explained things to me when I was seeking it. They explained pretty well everything that I need to know about it. My husband has the wrist one on but I have the necklace as well. He likes the wrist one because it’s easier for him rather than the necklace. Any time we have had to use it, the response has been very good. My husband had fallen, so we needed an ambulance come help pick him up. The response time was within 20 minutes, which was very good considering where we are from Gravenhurst. I would recommend Medical Alert.

I have had a problem about another company that called here, and they tried to tell me that my company was dropping the state of California because they were having’ a lot of problems with their system, and they got me to take them. I called my company and they said, “No way,” and that they had never said anything about dropping this state. They’ve been a real good company. If you need one take a Medical Alert.

My 93 year old mother has had her Medical Alert button for a few years. She is still fairly active. Unfortunately she has accidentally pushed the button many times. While she in the house, she has been able to cancel the call when the machine calls "Emergency". However, she has pushed it, unknowingly, when she is outside and unable to hear the callback from her machine or phone. Thus a visit from emergency services!! Everything worked very well as far as response from a call at her residence, but we are wondering what we can do to prevent these accidental calls. Could there be a beeping from the pendant itself? Or at least a vibration when it is pushed? Ambulance drivers have been excellent and stated that it is good practice, but after three false alarms we don't want to push our luck! Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I had a medical alert device before with a company in Richmond. But they were gonna change and I never got back with them. So then my daughter got me hooked up with Medical Alert. I like the wrist band better than the necklace. I feel like if I would fall, I don’t know if I would remember to get the necklace off or not. The wrist band would always be handy. I've accidentally pressed the button two or three times, and Medical Alert would call on the phone and I would tell them that it was a mistake. I broke the arm band a while back and I called and told them that I needed another one. So they sent me the arm band and the necklace. But they didn’t charge me for it. My daughter had to do a reset on it when I got the new thing. She set it up and it’s in working order.

I would fall at night before and it was a shock when I’d wake up on the floor. I couldn’t figure out how I was falling. Maybe I was trying to get out bed but I wasn’t fully awake and down I’d go. But my Medical Alert has worked. Whenever I fell, I knew somebody would come and help me get up. The button did help. In about five times, I’ve had to call someone. First, I called my brother and my son but my son would sometimes cut his phone off and that didn’t help me. My brother also got to where he couldn’t lift that much. Medical Alert would call a fire department. The fire department guy would come and get me up by himself and set me back on the bed.
The Medical Alert button works and I would recommend it if you like the thing hanging around your neck. I had it hanging around my neck for a long time until it got to where I couldn’t stand having it around my neck. So then I laid it beside my bed. When they called me, someone said to put it in my pocket. When I got to the button that had the fall detection in it, I did carry it in my pocket for a while. But sometimes, I don’t have a pocket. Now, it’s beside my bed and the other one that I had around my neck is in the bathroom.

Medical Alert's service has been okay. I've had them for five years now. I took that because I fell in the house and there was no way for me to call the ambulance or somebody because I didn’t have their number handy. I carried the button with me around the house because I’m afraid to walk alone. I walk with a cane and a walker, and I can’t go outside because I needed somebody to take care of me, to hold me.
Medical Alert makes me feel more safe because I’m really afraid to fall again because last year, about a year and a half ago at 1:30 in the morning, I was going to the bathroom and I fell and I broke my elbow. So right away, I called my neighbor and then she said, “We can’t pick you up from the floor because you’re too heavy.” So they pressed the button and the ambulance came, and I went to the hospital. Then from the hospital, I went to rehab for 28 days and then I came home. I really need somebody to help me because I’m getting tired now and I can’t take care of myself too much. I’d recommend the Medical Alert service. I just got to be very careful because I put it on my neck and today, my niece took me to the doctor and I have the thing on me. I forgot to take it off because that’s only good for the house. It’s not good for outside.

If I take it off of the base and I hang it up, it'll only be like 10 minutes and it will be like, "Please charge" the little battery thing. The rep I talked to when I called was kinda rude. She was like, "Well, I told you, it was working." I had told her it wasn't keeping charge and I had to just keep charging it. They called and told me that they had something that would be better working than this one and I got a new one but I haven’t used it since I got it. So far, I’ve used it for emergency about four times and every time, it was satisfactory. I fell in my bathtub a couple months ago and that was terrible. I was sitting in the bathtub for an hour and I couldn’t get out. I didn’t call immediately and when I did, they sent people over here and they got me out. Every time I’ve ever called them, the response time was quick. I think it’s because I live right off Route 34 and it’s an easy place for people to come.
There’s a young man that lived next door to me who lives alone. I tried to get him to buy one once and I tried to tell him all the good things about it, but he just didn’t go for it. I’m very disappointed with Medical Alert. No matter when you call or what department, everybody’s always busy and you’ve gotta wait. A lot of times, I hang up. It’s terrible. You also never get to talk to the same person. They put you on hold and then they say that the person you're looking for is not in the office that day. Or they would say that the person would call me back but I never had that happen either. I just hate to call there.
They had sent me something that would extend the area that could be reached by the unit. It was further than in my apartment. This woman was so persistent so I said I would take it. They sent it to me but I didn’t even open it and I sent it back. I figured if I’m out and about, I’m either with my daughter or some friends. But I had a heck of a time with customer service. This guy hemmed and hawed, and I wrote him a letter. Then my credit card company wanted to know what was wrong. I had to fill out all this and that. I got my credit card bill today and I got credit for it. But I saw that Medical Alert kept $9.50 for the postage but the thing probably weighed five ounces. I wear my wristband 24/7 and it's comfortable. I don’t even know I have it on. It’s better to have it in the shower. But otherwise, I don't really notice any difference. I'm 90 years old and I walk with a cane. I also know people who have gotten other ones locally and they do just as good a job.
In my Medical Alert, there is a big button for emergency and then for testing, there is a number to call and then you push the button on the machine. But when I am testing, I don't receive a response right away. One night, one gentleman called me to tell me about some other deal. While I was talking to him, I told him that I had another wrist bracelet that had not been activated. He told me he could do that for me and he told me what to do. It was activated and while I was talking to him, the doorbell rang. When I opened it up, it was a policeman. He asked me if I was ready to go. An ambulance was waiting for me. So evidently, the representative should not have told me to turn the thing over. The button was on the other side. That was quite an experience.
Hi Lucille, I am glad to know Susan reached out to you to apologize for the wait in Customer Care. She refunded your $9.50 to your credit card on file. I believe you have Susan's direct number, so you can always call her directly with anything else you need! I think she also explained that the “Big Button” does the same thing as your pendants -- and that the number to call for testing is on the top of your unit.
Thank you for being a valued customer of Medical Alert!

I’m an old senior lady living by myself. I don’t have any family here around in this county. I’ve got to the point where I drive a little. I can drive to the store, go over to our senior center and drive over to church. I felt that I needed Medical Alert. Wearing my bracelet is fine and it doesn't bother me at all. I’d rather wear it than the pendant. It seems like it’s always dangling around and I’m not comfortable with it. I have used my Medical Alert three times. The first time I fell was in the house. I wear the bracelet all the time but I didn’t have it on that late evening. I had to scoot on the floor. I got through the house into my bedroom where my medical alert device was and I pushed the button.
I fell again in the house. I wasn't hurt during the times I fell. But when I fall, I can’t get up and that’s why I scooted on the floor. I wanted to scoot where I could get to something heavy like a big chair. I thought I could pull up but now I couldn’t. The last time that I fell, the man that I had on my emergency contact was gone, so an ambulance was sent out. I was sitting on the floor and the people who came got me up. I was in my bedroom and they sat me on the bed. I felt okay. I wasn't hurt but I have been wearing the bracelet ever since.
Medical Alert's response was fast and I didn’t think about them sending an ambulance. My neighbor who lives just across from me came over to see what was going on and if I was hurt. He noticed that my emergency contact who was supposed to come wasn’t there. He told me that since he lives close, I should put him down as an emergency contact person which I did. I got my pastor down too. He lives close enough that it wouldn’t take him any time to get here.
I feel safer with my Medical Alert. I live in a really safe place, but if I fall, then I have the device to push. However, the part that says trouble on that box in the middle which I call the little yellow light, blinks. I called Medical Alert and they said the battery was dead on my drop pendant. They sent me one but it was the same thing. The little yellow light kept blinking. I called again and the man who answered was nice about it. But he told me that the battery on the device was doing the same thing. He said it was silly how they send things. I said, “Yes, you sent me a bad one, didn’t you?” We got a laugh out of it. I sent the first device back that they sent me because it was still blinking on my box.
Other than that, the Medical Alert is good. If I’m talking to an older person, I'd tell him to get it even if he might have someone with him. If he should fall and get hurt pretty bad, whoever’s with him may not be able to do much to help him. I just hope Medical Alert doesn’t keep going up in price because I just have that one income and I pay for everything here. When you’re on a fixed income, it’s pretty rough sometimes when you’re paying all the bills.

I, however, hit it twice and had to have the police come in, and I didn’t even know I did it. The device is nice to have, but it worries me that I’m gonna bump it because I didn’t know when I bumped it the other times. Having the idea that it is there, nevertheless, is good. It is a security. Some feel really independent and they don’t really think they need it, but when you’re talking to them, you know they need something. I would tell them for sure to check into Medical Alert.

I’m getting older. I’m 87 and my husband died so the kids thought I needed a medical alert device. I wear it on my neck all the time now. It's good and it doesn't bother me. I’ve never used the one that I carry with me but I've used the one at home. I called Medical Alert one night and they called back up. My son talked to them then they showed up quickly. They were nice and I was taken to the hospital. Everything’s okay with Medical Alert and I would tell others to get one, wear it and not to hang it on a nail someplace.

My mom is 92 and on a walker. We wanna make sure that if she fell, she wears the bracelet, and that way she could punch it and get Medical Alert attention real quick. My sister and I watch out for her all the time and that was our best plan that served her. She's always looking on TV and reading about things in AARP magazine and wants to try different ones. But to me, Medical Alert is the best overall. They have different options. Old people do not carry phones and they can't wear a lot of jewelry. So, the bracelet for her, like a watch works the best because when they have stuff around their neck, they panic and pull on them.
One time, my mom accidentally pushed the Medical Alert button. I was out mowing on a riding mower. I came around behind a building and there is an ambulance. There were three EMS people on my daughter’s porch and she's an acre away. I saw them up there and then the guy started walking towards me and so, we went in and checked her out. She was fine, but she had punched the button. I said, "Why didn't you answer the phone call?" She said, "Well, I didn't know the number. I didn't recognize it as anybody's number." So, we have a new rule after that. She had to answer the phone if I was outside or gone. That was a good experience though.

I have issues with my heart and sometimes I have trouble walking. So, it would make me dizzy and when that happens, I get off-balanced a little bit and I could fall. I try to grab onto something but it could get serious if I'm outside. So, I got a medical alert device and if I have it, I can get somebody here pretty quickly. Also, I'm not the only old lady over here where I stay, so if somebody might need assistance and I'm close to them, then I can help them, too.
I had a different medical alert system before but I didn't keep it up like I was supposed to. I kinda left it alone and just tried to stay safe. Then I got a Medical Alert and their reps were excellent to deal with. Their service is about a 10 while the other company wasn't quite like that. But I didn't understand what I was doing back then and that might've been my problem. But when I first started using my Medical Alert, I had to get used to how to do this and that, and their reps walked me through it.
I feel pretty safe with my Medical Alert than if I didn't have it. It's been working all right so far and the button is pretty easy to mess with. Otherwise, instead of trying to figure out how to do this and that, I'd just smash it. So, it's perfect and I'm very satisfied. If I didn't have it, I'd be in the dark. But right now, I have it, so I'm kind of in the light. I'd tell others that it's best to get it now. Don't wait till later because later is always too late.

Medical Alert charged me $54 for some necklace that they said they sent me but I never received it. When I spoke to them, they were sorry that I hadn’t gotten it but they couldn’t understand why I hadn’t received it. But I told them that I had lived in a secured building and that the mailbox is inside so I don’t know what happened to it either. Nonetheless, they should not have taken the money off my account without my permission. That was what I didn’t like. I’m 87 years old and I got the Medical Alert device in case I needed help. I wore it all the time and I felt a little bit more secure having it. But I've cancelled and sent it back. I never had to use it and now, I'm going to have it on my telephone and as long as I’ve got it on my phone, I’ll just have my phone all the time. I had also referred another person to Medical Alert though.

I was essentially alone even when my husband was alive because he was ill. I wanted a medical alert device for him and I also had one. When my husband died, I sent his back but I kept mine because I need it too because of my age. It’s a securing back up for me because I have had a number of falls. I wear it around my neck all the time except when I have someone in the home. I have caregivers and I have my family here sometimes. So I wouldn't need it then. I would put it aside then as soon as they’d leave, I would put it back on. I have a better feeling when I have that. It’s like having somebody in the house with me.
I had to use the button once for my husband and it was very quick. He had fallen in the shower and I told the Medical Alert people that I needed some help but I didn't wanna leave him to call anybody. So they did it. They called somebody and had the numbers. They sent out an emergency situation for him and they were out here in about 20 minutes because they’re nearby. Aside from that, it had also gone off when I’ve dropped it. But I called them and cancelled it since it was not an accident.
Somebody from Medical Alert called me once though. I have a bracelet and one pendant, but she was trying to sell me another pendant. It was probably because they’re paid from how much they sell. That was the impression I got. She was pressing me just to buy it and saying that I definitely had to have it because it was the latest thing. She gave me the impression that it was much faster acting. I didn't really know I needed that but I got it. Then I realized it wasn't anything different. It was just like my other one. I actually explained it to them when I took it back. I told them that I was a little bit pressed into this situation and that it wasn’t exactly what I thought it would be. Other than that once instance, they've always been very accommodating.
The only problem with the device is you can't have it for a distance. When I get better, I will take walks and I won’t be able to have that security of being able to press it when I’m away from the house, other than in my yard. That’s the only difference that I feel. But by that time, I’m gonna be strong enough anyway to be able to take care of myself because I carry a cellphone with me. Nonetheless, it’s a vey good service and I’d definitely recommend it.

I live alone so I got a Medical Alert. I like knowing that I have a button if I need it and my kids are happy that I have it. I've been with Medical Alert for a few years now. Their customer service reps are good. They answer my questions. I feel secure having a Medical Alert. I just don't like this new one that they sent me. It's one of those where if you fall, it automatically sends in the signal. In case you knocked yourself out, they get there and that's fine. But this new one is so sensitive. If I don't put it on very gently, it sets my base off. When it goes off, the base unit yells emergency five times. If I'm in the house, I hear it and I'd go to it and reset it. But if I'm outside, I can't hear that and I don't want anybody to show up if I don't need them. I don't mind paying for the service but I don't like this new one.
The first time I got it, I called to cancel but they talked me back into it. I still have it but I don't wear it. I have another button, the original button that came with the unit. It's not that sensitive. I have to actually push it. In fact, that's what I use and I have it on right now. If I take it off, I put it on the table next to me wherever I'm sitting. But most of the time, I wear it around my neck, but not when I'm sleeping because I set it off somehow. So, I take it off at night and put it on my night table. I also don't like wearing it in the shower because once you wet it, the rope around the neck stays wet and I don't like it. I'd recommend Medical Alert to a friend. Anybody who lives alone should have one. It's nice to know that if I press that button, the police will come or when they yell emergency, I could tell them any help that I needed. If I needed a cop, they'll call a cop or if I want them to just send my son, they will send my son.

Original Review: Oct. 16, 2018
My mother used Medical Alert's Mobile Alert System for approximately 6 years, always maintaining her account in good standing. She made her last payment May 15, 2018. The service from Medical Alert was also good over the years. At age 93 mom needed to move into assisted living which she did on May 30, 2018. I called and emailed Medical Alert on June 15 advising of the need to cancel service due to her move to assisted living and coverage by assisted living's proprietary alert system. During my call in June with Mick in billing I advising mom had been falling and also has been experiencing some confusion and memory issues, resulting in the need to cancel service as mom had not used the service since May 30. I was advised of the requirement to return the equipment which I did that day and it was received by Medical Alert on June 20.
I appealed to billing to forgive the June monthly charges as a goodwill gesture in light of the fact mom had moved to assisted living on May 30 and having made payments for many years. We did not heard anything from Medical Alert until mom received a voice message a few days ago advising payment due, and then a "First Delinquency Notice" with an amount due of $44.95 for one month service. I called back today and was advised by Tara in billing that there would be no forgiveness even though the equipment was not in use during the month of June. I do not believe mom owes for June charges. I find it hard to believe, knowing the equipment was mailed, Medical Alert will not forgive a small bill. This is a 94 year old woman, living on social security, who faithfully paid her bill for years, now forced to move to assisted living. Also not very good long term thinking by Medical Alert!
Hi Tom,

But the unit kept sending out false signal, so they replaced it and I haven’t had any problem with the new one. One time, I fell and I was trying to get a hold of somebody and they were the only ones available. They helped me and did it all by phone. They contacted the ambulance and all that kind of stuff, and they came out. The button is something I have available 24/7 in case anything goes wrong. The wristband was a little big for my wrist though. It was loose and fluffy. Other than that, they’ve always been there and it’s a good product.

The other company I was with supplied a shorter, more attractive string. There was also a woman who called me and said she was gonna send me this and that, and it was high-pressure sales. Before I knew it, I got things in the mail that I didn’t want and I had to send them back by FedEx. They shouldn’t do that. But Medical Alert has been excellent besides all that. My mom activated her Medical Alert device in August with excellent customer service. In September, on a customer service call, we were advised to get the Protection Plan for the device in case of loss, which we did at that time. No mention of a written agreement that would be required. Yesterday, (2 months after activation/1 month after activating the Protection Plan), mom received a packet of paperwork in the mail - legal type document - stating she should complete and sign and return within 48 hours for 'best protection'.
I called customer service for her today and my first conversation did not answer my questions satisfactorily, in fact only added to frustration as I was told it didn't matter 'when' the document arrived... It IS required for liability and that mom should sign the top page and send it to the company as it also is to confirm the device is used by her (not someone else). I checked online at Connect America and there is an Agreement (which I read), although not sure what Mom received as she is in a different state and said she received many pages printed front and back. I am currently still on hold for a supervisor at customer service (1 hour+ so far). To Customer Service: First, please inform customers that the document is required when we sign up for the Protection Plan. Given all conversations so far have stated 'no contracts' - 'cancellation with no fees', it would help calm concerns. Second - can you put the full agreement with the detail sheet(s) on your website?

I’ve never needed to use the device, but it gives me security. I’ve had it for four years, so I don’t even realize that I have it anymore. Sometimes it gets a little tangled around my neck at night, but if I don’t wear it at night, that’s when most people would need it. My one friend took hers off at night and put it on the nightstand. She fell in the bathroom so she couldn’t reach it. She laid down the floor in the bathroom for two days before somebody found her. That was a bad experience for her. So I definitely keep mine on at night now. I’m very satisfied with everything I did with Medical Alert for years now and I would recommend it to others.

I’m 81 years old and I had a problem with my knee for a while. I had knee replacement 20 years ago but nobody wants to replace them again right now so I had a really bad problem with my knee giving away. Then my husband was really ill and I had stress so I had a lot of falls during that period of time. That was why I decided to get Medical Alert. In two years, I had fallen 20 times and four of them required hospitalization. So I really appreciated having Medical Alert. It makes we feel more secure because I know if anything happens, I can press the button and get help. I also live alone and I’m still immobile. I walk with a walker but things happen sometimes.
When my alarm goes off, the Medical Alert people are good about coming on right away and checking on me. They ask about what’s going on, if I've had a fall and if I need help or an ambulance. If there's anything going on and I say yes or if I don't answer, they would notify my family or call an ambulance. My family lives next door. Medical Alert also has a cell phone so they can even call my family on the job. If they can’t get my family, I have a friend that they can call and she can get in touch with whoever she needs to get in touch with.
When the battery ran out on my old one, they sent me a new box and the neckpiece was really sensitive. It was a fall button and I accidentally hit it about 10 times within the first two weeks. It was about to drive me nuts. It’s on a string and pinned on a necklace, and one time, I leaned over and it bumped on the counter. That set it off. Another time, I was sitting in my lift chair and I bumped it. They came on but the box was across the room. By the time I got out of my chairlift and across the room, they had already answered. So it’s very quick. It's probably no more than a minute or two before they’ll come on. Most of the time, it’s been a false alarm and I've always told them that it was an accident and that I had bumped it on something.
But I’ve gotten used to the button now and I’m a little more cautious so I haven’t set it off for a while. My knee is stronger now too, and I haven’t had any falls for two and a half years. But I’ve had Medical Alert for about five years and it has always worked really good for me. I've also recommended it to quite a few of my friends. I told them that it worked and they know it's true because they know all the problems I’ve had.

I can't say all the customer service is horrible, but 2 out 5 on our last 5 calls were. It started when my 88 year old mother was interested in adding call alert to her current service, she spoke to a customer service representative lady and found out it would be an additional $15 and said, "Let me talk to my son and I will call back."
BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE REP 1 - One week later the new necklace with fall alert came EVEN THOUGH SHE SAID She did not want it, So this prompted a talk with my Mom about her current service and other options. We decided after a few days that if she upgraded to fall alert that there was some better options for the money, we called Medical Alert Customer Service and told the WE DID NOT WANT NOR ORDERED THE CALL ALERT, we never activated it or used the necklace, and DO NOT BILL US, they said since we accept the device on delivery we would be charged for the month with it as well as would have to pay for the shipping back, when I said that was ridiculous and asked for a supervisor the Customer Service Rep hung up on me.
BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE REP 2 - At this point we were totally disgusted with Medical Alert Customer Service so we looked at other options and found a service that was much cheaper, required no home phone line, had fall alert, and worked outside of the house, as well as notified via app my phone if my Mom set off an alert and give me a GPS location of her whereabouts. So we called and talked to our Third and WORSE Medical Alert Customer Service Rep, a man, we told him we had a new service and needed to send back our old equipment and cancel our service ASAP
(NOTE: They will not cancel your service until your return your equipment and if you miss the new billing cycle by one day your charged another month) - THIS CALL WENT TERRIBLE - IT TOOK 20-30 MINUTES TO CONVINCE THE GENTLEMEN THAT WE WERE NOT STAYING, I made it very clear from the very beginning of the call that WE WERE NOT STAYING with Medical Alert, but despite me saying NO a dozen times he kept offering new deals, different equipment and services, pleading for us to stay, it got so bad that one point I said, "NOT NO - BUT HELL NO" at which point he starting yelling at me swearing at him and how it was not necessary, I still could not get the simple answer on how to cancel our account and return the equipment.
FINALLY he caves in and says, "Let me put you on hold and enter it in the computer your cancellation" - NOTE: While on Hold and fairly aware I was probably just MUTED, I was telling my mother how this will probably take another 30 minutes as he types all the attempts to keep us into the computer, and we were talking how ridiculously rude he was for not listening to my requests, ONLY FOR HIM TO TAKE ME OFF MUTE AND START YELLING AT ME HOW RUDE I WAS AND HOW HE COULD HEAR EVERYTHING I WAS SAYING, my response was I figured he could hear us, did not care if he could hear us, and meant everything I said and would be happy to repeat it to a supervisor if he wished me to repeat it to them. We were told as long as they received the equipment by October 1 we would not be billed for October, (this was on September 24th), they received the equipment September 26 after we paid near $14 to ship it back.
BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE REP 3 - So we call on October 1st, after 42 MINUTE WAIT TIME TO GET TO A CUSTOMER SERVICE REP in BILLING, she confirmed our equipment was received, but we did get charged that day for October, she was very apologetic, said we should have been told to call in to cancel 5-6 days after shipping the equipment back, she reversed the charges and politely took my comments of frustration on my interaction with the previous customer service reps. So KUDOS to her, and KUDOS to one other lady Customer Service Rep we talked to about options and costs (despite the previous Rep hanging up on us over the fall alert return)
The new system we got from a competitor needs to be charged daily which is a downfall, but has two way access right from the call button and it does flash red and does sound an alert if the battery gets low. Then I thought about it and there is no low battery indicator we are aware of on the old medical alert button, I BELIEVE and could be wrong, but I think the only way to tell your battery is dead is a failed monthly test you are suppose to do. In any case we could not stand to work with Medical Alert's Customer Service and their treatment of me and my Mother made it real easy to change services with no regrets, their competitors have been very quick to respond to button pushes, very helpful, and most of all very polite and patient and not overbearing or rude.
Hi Bryan,
We looked into your account today and listened to the sales calls you had regarding cancellation, and our representative sounded very polite. We also listened to the call with your Mom regarding the Fall Detection Button, and your Mother definitely confirmed that she wanted it, and there was no mention of talking it over with her son.
Someone from our escalation team will call you tomorrow to follow up. Our customers are very important to us, so I am sorry that this has been a frustrating experience on your end.

My husband passed away a little while back and my brother in Denver insisted I get the Medical Alert device because I live by myself now. When I first took the device out, I was told to test it and so I did the testing. I wear the device all the time except when I go to bed. I take it off when I go to bed and lay it by my bedside. I wear the necklace around my neck 'cause if I'm out somewhere and I need it, I can push the button. It makes me feel secure because I can push the button if I'm in trouble. If anybody asks me what is the thing that's hanging around my neck for, I explain it to them and tell them it's a good thing to have especially if they're alone. I would also tell them to definitely get one because it would make them feel safe.

I've had falls before and I live alone. My family live around where we live so I had to call them if I needed help. So, my family got a Medical Alert system for me. At first, I started with a device around my neck but then that would fall off and start an emergency. Thereafter, my daughters ordered the model for my wrist and it has been better since. One time, I was gonna sit down on my bed and I pushed the button accidentally. All of a sudden, the device started an emergency again. Medical Alert's team called and I told them it was an accident. Still, that made me feel good because I have help if I need it.

I kept falling and I live alone. I got the Medical Alert and I feel secure knowing I have that. I have it for a little over five years since 2013. I've used it twice and it has been wonderful. I wear it around the wrist and when I pressed the button, they answered. But the second time I had to use it, they couldn’t hear me. The device was in my living room and I fell in my bedroom. An ambulance came and my son came. They told me they couldn’t hear me but help was on the way. I’ve moved the device since that happened. At the time, when they called my contact, it just showed a 1-800 number and my daughter didn’t answer it the first time. But she called back and it was them. People sometimes ignore that number and if they don't recognize it, they don't answer. So that was the one thing that my daughter thought was wrong with Medical Alert. They shouldn’t hide their business.

They have been charging my credit card, which I called Visa to report credit card fraud. Emails to Medical Alert ignored.
Hi Lynn,
I am sorry you had a frustrating experience. We looked into your account and you are correct -- you would have gotten a full refund, (except the $10.00 shipping charges), had you not disputed the charges with her CC Company. Once you dispute charges with them vs. going straight to us, we as a company must then deal directly with the cc company. I can report that the funds have been returned to your by your Credit Card Company.

I got help and I kept wanting to go to sleep, but I was told that if I went to sleep, I wouldn't come back. My kids had a fit and told me that I've got to get something just in case that happens again. With Medical Alert, I have the comfort of knowing that I can get help when I get in trouble. I have bumped my button accidentally quite a few times and Medical Alert's response has been quick. They’ve been also so efficient, kind and forgiving when that happens. I had the fall thing added to the device, but I’d rather have something different than the necklace I wear. Still, it’s a great thing to have.

I got this for my 82 and 84 year old parents. No bill came to their house but they harassed them on the phone. They were sending the bill to an apartment in a different city. My mom would accidentally set off the fall pendant and the operators were rude to both my mom and dad. My mom was also experiencing dementia. The elastic used for the wrist pendant was leaving marks on my dad's wrist only after 6 months, it was stiff. My contracted amount was $49.99 but they started billing $54.95 with no notice. I canceled when my mom passed away in July. I returned the equipment after waiting for a label and received a bill on September 3 for $64.95. The equipment was received in the warehouse on August 21. I was informed that I would have to pay for August.
Hi Jeanette, Just closing the loop on this with a reply...
To recap: on 9/17/18 we responded to your complaint filed on another site that had you contacted Medical Alert about the wrist band, we would happily replaced the band with a different type. We did hear from you in February requesting a credit. A courtesy credit was issued at that time.
We heard from you again recently requesting a credit for August and September 2018 and we credited the account for August and September and canceled the account with a zero balance, as requested.
If there is anything further we can do, please call our customer care department.

I used another device before this and if I triggered it so that it went off, I could just speak and I would get a response over the device. I would hear, “Do you need help?” and then I would say, “No, I didn’t need any help,” and that would be it. Whereas with the Medical Alert device, a couple of minutes after it has been triggered, I would get a phone call to see if I’m alright. It seems like I trigger the device off too often. I wear it around my neck and that’s when I trigger it because it gets in the way. I usually wear it under a blouse or shirt and sometimes, I trigger it by bumping or if I was taking something out of my washing machine. When I’m bent over and I forget that it’s on, I might hit it. I’ve done it a couple of times a month and the response has been very good.
I don’t like the feeling of the wet string after I finish showering since I would have to take my hair dryer and dry it. I just keep it at the tub and it stays dry. The string is a little bit long and I’ve had other people look at it and nobody seems to know how to shorten it. Tying the knot doesn’t work. I’m short-waisted and it goes down even below my breast. Still, everything has been good and I apologized when I triggered it because I figured I was using somebody’s time. It’s something that just happens so quickly.

I broke my ankle and I was on the bedroom floor. I used my Medical Alert and their response time was very good. Luckily, it had been fairly cool in Florida and I had the windows open because the fellow from the ambulance was walking around the house to try to find a way to get in and I hollered up the window. I told him where the hidden key was so they could come it. Since that time, I’ve got a lockbox and the Medical Alert reps told me to give them the code on it. That incident happened on October 19, 2015 and I was in the hospital for two nights then I was in one rehab place. But Medicare would only let me stay there for a certain time and they had to move me to another one. Those were horrible places and I didn’t get back home until January 1st of 2016.
I should have used my device one other time but I didn’t want them to come in here with sirens and put me in the hospital again. It was my own fault anyway. I pulled it down in the chair that was partly under the table and as I was turning around to sit down and I didn’t pull it out far enough. And when I sat down, there was a bang on the floor. I wear my device around my neck because my wrists are too skinny. I’m so used to it now and I never notice it. But I have one of those that you can’t lie down on for if I fall, bumped my head, and knocked myself out. I would recommend it highly.

I had a very poor experience with Medical Alert. They were calling my mother at 6:00, 7:00, 8:00, 9:00 and 10:00 in the evening over a bill that my mother should not have gotten phone calls about. My sister has always paid that bill. At the time, Medical Alert had a credit card on file that apparently expired. I’m sorry that they weren’t smart enough to call the credit card holder and explain to them that it had expired and that they needed to do something with it. Instead, took it upon their self to start calling my 85-year old mother about a bill that does not pay. That was too much.
I’m with her all the time. There’s no reason for her to have to Medical Alert anymore. Also, at this point in time, I may not be with her all the time because she may not be with us much longer. At the time that we got her the device, she lived alone in a whole other state. We got the device so we could keep up with what was going on if she should take a fall. Three years ago, I moved her with me but we still kept the medical alert because she still went out and did things with other people. We were more confident in that situation.
Now there's no confidence in them anymore. They dropped the bomb. Even after I spoke to them about contacting my mother, they still continued. I ended up telling them that if they contacted my mother one more time, I was filling harassment charges against them. One time, she took a serious fall and Medical Alert never came on. I had already called 911 on my phone, pushed her button several times, never got a response. When they finally answered the call, they started calling everybody but the person that was with her. They called my sister in Texas. They called her friend that lives in Michigan. They never called me. At that point in time, the ambulance was already there anyway so it didn't matter.
I’m waiting on them to call me back now because I canceled this stuff last month. I was under the impression that everything had been handled, that the bill would be sent to the Danbury, Texas PO box where it should be mailed to. Instead, I received a phone call today stating that they wanna talk to me about a bill that is owed. That really, really, really pissed me off. I have no other way of telling them that I do not handle the bill. I have given them my sister's name, phone number, email and mailing address. I have returned all of the products to them. We will not be using Medical Alert again.
Hi Cynthia,
We've looked into this account and would like to clarify some things from our end:
According to our detailed call notes, at no time was anyone on this account called from our company after 5:50 pm EST. We see there is a 1-hour difference in time zones, so that would be 6:50pm your time. We would not call customers after 8 pm because our Collections dept closes at 8 pm.
Several times, messages were left to have the payee return our calls toupdate the Credit Card number. Our calls were never returned, and when we did get through to the payee, she would hang up on us.
It is normal business practice for a company to update credit card information when a credit card on file has expired. Since the person we had on file did not call back and/or hung up when they did answer, we called the customer directly. If someone had called us to update the information, billing calls would have ceased.
In paragraph 3, where you reference your Mother taking a serious fall -- Medical Alert dispatched emergency services before we ever spoke with you. You may not have known that because the situation was upsetting. But I assure you, 911 was dispatched when the fall was detected.
Because the customer kept pushing her button, she was canceling out signals, but nevertheless, we did dispatch help. Medical Alert was instructed by the customer to also notify the people on the call list in the case of an emergency which is why everyone on the call list was notified as well, but the ambulance was on its way because Medical Alert dispatched them.
We do see that there are 2 outstanding invoices which we will take care of for you and close the account.
Sincerely,Alex

Hi Paul,
You can return the fall detection pendent with a note stating the information below. You will need to send it via USPS, UPS or FedEx to obtain a tracking number. When you get the tracking number, if you will call Barb on my team, she can look for the equipment’s return.
At that point the Fall Detection Pendent will be canceled. The $20 actually covered a Protection Plan for $10 a month and the Fall Detection Button for $10 per month.
If you wish to cancel the Protection Plan, you should add that to the note you will be sending with the button. It will need to be returned to Medical Alert, 816 Park Way, Broomall, PA 19008.

They had excuses like: "we won't be able to give you a full refund," "you should have contacted us sooner," etc. etc. I have called them monthly. Their response: "we have to get permission to give you the full refund," or "we will send you a check," etc. As of yet, I have not received a response from the company or a refund. The first time I called them was in March and now it is August! Still no refund of my money!
Hi Peggy,
I saw your complaint and had my escalation team reach out to you to sort this out asap.
I am glad to know Susan refunded your Visa card in full and sorted out the issue.
Sincerely,Alex
