Since using Medical Alert, it has reminded me to be more careful and I've had less worries. One time, I went from the kitchen to the dining room and my toe hit a rough spot and I fell. I didn't even try to get up. I just pushed the button. I told them I fell and I couldn't get up and they said they’d be right on out. Then, they were here to help me. Also, I had problems with getting the device to start charging and they helped me with that. It's working good now.
Hi Louise,

First, it was my husband who picked me up off the floor, then he got too weak, so I had different neighbors come in. I figured I wasn't gonna keep having them do that. That's why I got the Medical Alert. When I had to be picked up off the floor and go into a chair again, I called them. Three times they did that, so I’m very satisfied and pleased with them. They also didn’t insist to have me go to the hospital, so I was glad about that as well. I'm very impressed.
On the other hand, I don’t like the new necklace button they gave me. It’s supposed to tell Medical Alert when I fall, but it’s too sensitive. I kept having it go off when I didn't want it to. As soon as I just leaned over someplace, it pushed the button. If I was doing something or even when I was getting dressed or undressed, it would come on. The medic would then come in and I would have to tell them that it was a false alarm. I had the necklace button on for under a month, but I don't wear it anymore. I wear the older button now.
Hi Maureen,
Yes, the fall detection is on the sensitive side to ensure that a fall is detected.

I’m 86 years old, I'm living alone, and my husband had just expired. I talked about getting Medical Alert before but I hadn't done it. Then, four days after that, I fell. I didn’t get hurt but I said to myself, “God, you get me up from here, I’m going to get Medical Alert.” And I did. So far, my time with Medical Alert has been good. One time, I called them because I was interested in getting the fall alert and I got put on hold. After 45 minutes, I had to go to the bathroom, so I said I’d call later. I’m just not used to staying on the telephone for 45 minutes. Then, they called an alarm because they couldn't get me and they felt something had happened to me. And here came all these medics out here, which was very nice, but I didn't need them.
I know that the system works though and it alerts my daughter as well as my grandson. My grandson’s in Bush, Louisiana, but he's in charge of everything. And my daughter works at a medical clinic and they'd call her. Then, they'd call them back, but sometimes, the Medical Alert team would be already on their way. And sometimes, 12 people would show up, which happened twice. But I thanked them for coming and I know I’m covered, so I’m okay.
At another time, they said the thing had gone off a couple times, but I didn't punch the button. I decided that the cords around it were too long. I’m short and I’m sure that if I got it close to the sink and that one was hanging down, I might turn it on. I didn’t want to do that, so I shortened the cords on each one of them and hadn’t had any more problems since. I could wear them around my neck and not worry. I just have to be careful because when you’re short and you’re getting up to the washing machine or around the kitchen, it can set the alarm off.
Other than that, my bill has gone up now. I had to pay $599 a year for both the fall thing and the Medical Alert. Then I got this thing about insurance and I don't need any more insurance on anything. However, they deducted $10 from my bank account and I wasn't too happy about that. But I hadn't been able to get ahold of anybody about that yet. Besides that, I have recommended Medical Alert to several friends because I felt like they needed it as well as I did.
Hi Bernice,

I stay under the doctor's care all the time and I'm in good shape. However, I'm alone and even though I'm good for my age, I felt that I needed a device if I fell. Now, I have a watch that I put on my wrist after my shower every morning and it's by my bed every night. I wear it every day all the time in case I fall. I have a doggie and I have to go up and down the steps with her in front of the house. I also have the necklace in my bathroom, by the shower, in case I fall or slip.
My friends are concerned that I'm alone and they always ask me. I tell them that I have Medical Alert and I show them the one on my wrist. I say, "All I have to do is push this button if I fell or whatever I might need." My son and daughter are on the list to call and when I first got it, I had one incident when I was at the fruit market and they called my son. I put my watch on before going out and I accidentally hit it against something. I must've hit it when I went into the garage and got into the car. They were on the ball, and they were ready to come, but I told them I just didn't know I hit it.

Medical Alert has been good so far. Sometimes, they call me and I don't even know that I bumped it on my wristband. The only complaint I got is they claim they sent me a necklace and I had told them in the very beginning and several times that I don't want it because I'm afraid when I sleep with it at night that I may choke myself because I don't lay still. I had one of these people tell me, "Oh, just hang it in your shower and leave it there." What good is it doing me if I'm outside doing something and that thing is in the shower if I should need it? I got my bracelet and I got the main unit with me all the time. Now, they billed me for it and I never got it. They told me they would take it off, but it goes on my credit card and I haven't got my credit card yet. There is another company out there pushing to sell this way, but I'm satisfied with Medical Alert, so I keep what I got.

I fell once before and it took me about an hour to get up off the floor. That scared my kids, so they made me promise to look into Medical Alert. I'm not used to my help button yet, so I accidentally bump it every once in a while, like when I'm sitting down at the table. Medical Alert responds right away and say they're gonna call somebody. But then I push the button and hold it in and it cancels that out. It takes a little getting used to, but I’ll get used to it and everybody's happy. I like the security of knowing they'll be here if I fall.

I went with Medical Alert mostly for the price. I wear it around my neck and sometimes, when I go to brush my teeth or do anything at the cupboard, it goes off. A couple of times, I was upstairs getting dressed in the morning. I must've hit it unbeknownst to me, and they call me, "Are you all right?" The alarm went off and I couldn't hear it upstairs 'cause my thing is downstairs in the kitchen. I don't know how to get away from that and I don't know what else to do. If I get a wrist thing, it's so big. It's in the way all the time, so around the neck is the best thing, but I am having that problem.

At the time that I got my Medical Alert device, I was seeing a nurse practitioner. Since I lived alone, she thought I needed it and the children didn't object to me having it. I don't feel it's necessary but the children seem to think it is. My daughter-in-law kinda thinks I should have the one that automatically goes off if I fall but I haven't added it. Most of the time, I'm satisfied with it. I put it on every morning and take it off when I go to sleep. I know it's there and if I go out, I feel very confident. Comparing it to others, there's some difference that I like in one of them. But overall, it wasn't enough for me to feel like it was worth trying to change. But I can cancel this anytime I like and return the equipment to Medical Alert since I don't own it.
However, I set the device off too much. It's sensitive and sometimes it's very frustrating when it goes off. I've hit the bathtub when I'm scrubbing it so I either take it off or be very careful when I do that. One day, I was in the kitchen trying to make a pie and I don't know how I hit it. I was rolling dough. I had a phone call and they couldn't reach me. They reached my daughter. Before she could get back with them that I was fine, I had the EMTs here. They were very nice. One time, they couldn't find me. They called my daughter who happened to be in Florida. She told them I was supposed to be at a play with my granddaughter and that was where I was. I never did know that I had set it off 'til they told me and I still don't know how I set it off.
One thing I do dislike about this is you can't talk to somebody unless you're near your transmitter or have your transmitter with you. One company makes one that has the button you can push and also talk, but it's larger than what the round button is that you have to wear. Another thing is I don't like the black cord. I wish it was a lighter color. Also, one rep will say one thing and somebody else will tell me something else. You don't know who's right and who's wrong.

I'm not a young person anymore and I have to go up and down steps to do my washing. On the other things that I had checked on, you have to press the device to call for help. This one from Medical Alert detects a fall. A relative has this same thing and she was the one who encouraged me to get it. I tested it one day and instead of the robotic answering, there was a lady who talked to me for about 20 minutes. That was the only time that I can recall that anything was ever said about a warranty on the gadget. I would be doing better if Medical Alert had not added something on that I did not request and do not want, and charged my credit card number for it. I notified my credit card not to pay that added price. I still have to call them back and see if it has been taken off because the rep told me it would take about two weeks to get the paperwork in, which I find unreal.
Everything else has gone okay. I paid for this for a year. I'm testing it out to see what it's going to do other than scaring me the first or second or third time it went off in the middle of the night to let me know that it was run down and needed charging. It would be nice to be told that beforehand instead of being awakened at four o'clock in the morning. It was frightening to say the least because I wondered how in the world somebody got in this house. I feel more comfortable having the medical alert device but at this point, I would not recommend it to someone else until I get the billing straightened out. Also, if they put a warning on there that sometimes you get added things for the upkeep of your device, the device should last at least a year.

The only reason I got Medical Alert was because I got a panic one time when my friend had to use hers. My niece kept asking me, “Your age, you should use it.” So, I got it to please her. I don’t like anything around my neck. I hate it. A couple of times, there was a false alarm. Medical Alert called my house and said, “Is everything all right?” “Yeah.” I didn’t press the buttons. So I said, “I don’t know what’s going on.” He said, “Well, it’s a false alarm. We must have a false alarm.” I could have hit the button when I was sitting down and it hit the edge of the table.

When I was in assisted living, I had a button they put around your neck or a wristband, and you could push that when you wanted help. Anytime you needed help for whatever reason, they would come over and see what you needed right away or as soon as possible. That's how I got started on that. And then I got one at home here. I'm living with my daughter. If I need help, I can call. It's very touchy. It's very good because my daughter tossed in the furniture and she accidentally bumped it a bit, it went off. It's Johnny-on-the-spot. One gentleman from Medical Alert called me and told me that I can turn my button that I wear around my neck upside down and put the voice next to my chest. And I should be able to hear it that way. I had no idea I could do that. It's much more comfortable that way. I like it. It's peace of mind.

The reception and everything is good. The first time I used my Medical Alert, I couldn't breathe very well. I just sat there for a minute to see if I would get there, but it didn't get any better. I stay by myself and the circumstances out here where I stay is a little difficult. So, I went on and called and used it. There was a lot going on here in Jackson and different alert emergencies were going on. So, it took the team a while to get here, but they finally came, picked me up and got me to the hospital. I know it's mainly when you fall or you can't get up or anything like that. But that particular time, because I stay alone, it was a good thing to have.
When I fell outside that particular day, it was hot, but I was sitting outside and I fell down, and when I went to stand, everything went blank. I was still in my walker. If it had not been for a neighbor here in my complex saw me hit the ground, I would've been just laying there. But I had hit the ground and hit my head, and he just so happened to see me, and that was a wake- up call then that I needed to try to find some kind of way to get me one to have. I don't walk all over my apartment with my phone with me. So, I may leave it in one room, fall in another room, and can't get to it. That was a wake-up call for me.
My children pushed me about it way before then that I need to have it because I had a tendency to fall having arthritis. It would sometimes sneak up on me and I could get up and then be okay, and next thing I know, I'm on the ground. A lot of places were so expensive, but I'm on a fixed income. I needed something that I could afford and make sure I have. I had to talk to my cardiologist before I could wear it. He said as long as I didn't put it on the device at all, it wouldn't bother me so I got it tied. When I put it on, it's a distance from the area where the device is. But other than that, I've been happy with it. I saw another friend of mine who has a life alert as well, but she is under different circumstances and she never had to charge it. I charge mine every day. But whenever the green light comes on, I know it's fully charged and everything. I try my best to keep it charged, so when I go out, if I had to use it, I'll be in good hands.
I would recommend Medical Alert to a friend. There's a lot of people that say they don't need and would say that they don't need it, and I tell them it's a good idea to have simply because if you're in a state where you fall or pass out somewhere, if you have underlying medical issues, it would be good to have because they may be no one around to help you.

The round thing around the neck was like a hockey puck. It was too big, heavy, and a nuisance hanging around my neck even though it’s a very effective instrument. I sent all the equipment back last August. Then I sent a certified letter out because I got a letter stating that the company was glad that I selected Medical Alert and I haven't had it since August. They should make sure that they're not taking $40 a month out of my bank account. If not, they owe me credit.
I had a friend of mine who has an emergency wristwatch that does exactly the same thing and so I elected to go with that. It’s like a regular watch that gives me time, but if I needed an emergency, I got a special button that would call the police, fire department, and my family. I could press another button and all my family pictures come up. I could also talk to the wrist. That was another reason why I switched. But I can't say enough about Medical Alert's system and its ability to what it can do it. It's wonderful. Physically and mechanically, the device is excellent. I would suggest that they come up with a wristwatch appliance like the one I have now.

They’ve called a few times and they said it might be some error reason. One day, I was in the den and I don't know why I went to the front of my house, and the ambulance and firetruck were there. The neighbors were there, too. I said, “What are y'all doing?” They said, “Well, you called Medical Alert.” They said it might be a malfunction. It's been a long time since that happened until about four months ago. When I talked to them, nothing was wrong. They said, “Well, we're glad of that. Thank you. Bye-bye.” Everything is going fine. I was in rehab last year and they gave my son a list of numbers to call. Once when I was in the emergency room, one of the nurses complimented the necklace I had on. I'm here by myself and I don't have anybody to call if I fall or anything other than 911. I can’t get me up. I've got artificial knees and I can't get down on them to get up.
My son that lives next to me is a truck driver so he's on the road for a month or more. The other one lives at Murray. My sister is four years older than me so we didn't want her having to get out in the middle of the night. She needed to be at home herself. My son went and asked her. She said, “Sure. Put my number on there.” I've got her listed on Medical Alert. If something happens, they can call my sons and I can usually get the one who is a truck driver unless he’s asleep. He can’t always hear the phone but he could text the other son and get a message across. But they're on the call list. I always hit the button when I'm doing something. But I don't need the help when I hit it. I usually wear the little one and I've changed and wear the big one. One night, I reached up to get my towel and hit the button somehow. I told them, “Well, it works even when I don’t need it.”

My experience with the reps of Medical Alert has been good. The only thing is sometimes I can't hear them well. Out here in the country, I don't get that good reception. But the last two times that I talked to them, I could hear them really clearly. So maybe they got something fixed or I did. Since having the device, I feel safer. I know if I fall or get hurt, I can call. I have my phone and I have all four of my kids on it, where all I have to do is push their button. When I'm wearing it though, it's aggravating. I just don't like something at my wrist. I have accidentally pushed that button a few times and their team would call. So it's easy to mash the button when it's on my wrist. I'm satisfied with it.

We got the Medical Alert because Patricia is older and just in case. The reps are to the point and let me know immediately. Patricia has the device on now and she has no problem wearing it. The only thing is my older sister is supposed to be on it, because she's a health care proxy, and we have given the number twice but they still don't have it. Other than that, we're very satisfied with the device. It gives us a sense of peace.

My Medical Alert works fine. I feel safe with it. I have two. A white with a black button, and then, the one with the red button. The red button, I bumped it all the time. Every move I made, it seemed like I bumped that thing. This black button doesn't go off if you bump it. For this one, I have to push to get service. The other one, I don't. It tells you when you're falling. I prefer the black one. I don't have to worry about bumping it and they're gonna call me right away. I’m satisfied and happy. My friends got the same thing. They all wear them.

My wife always falls down and she used the Medical Alert a couple of times and it worked. However, they sent this thing, if it detects you fall, it automatically responds. I told them before, “No. All I want is what I got right now. I don't want any more stuff, okay?” But a few weeks went by and they sent it anyway. Then sending it back was a problem because it cost me freight and that was all out of my pocket. I sent it back, but I still haven't got credit for it yet.

Medical Alert is a good thing to have, the peace of mind. I feel like I've got a friend on my wrist or around my neck at all times. If I have an emergency, at least I can get help. But I get a little bit nervous about is testing it. They told me that I should test it once in a while. But I never do because I'm afraid that they'll think it's a real call. I told people that Medical Alert was the one that my pharmacy recommended. If you live alone, no matter how old you are, you never know when you need somebody. So you better get one.

My husband passed away last year and I'm living by myself. My family insisted that I get the system. The Medical Alert team seemed very concerned, and they check the device. Usually, if I don't call in to check it, they would check it with me. And I've had all good relationships with them. Once you get into a routine, you do what you have to do, and it works out. A couple of times the device called because I must have stooped over and bumped it against the vanity in the bathroom or something. They called and I said, "No. I'm okay. I just bumped it in the way that it set off the alarm." That happened three times. I'm happy with it.

Medical Alert is a little heavy around my neck, but it's fine. You get used to it like everything else. I purchased it because I'm alone. I used it once. I had fallen and I was able to get the paramedics to come to pick me up. Their representatives always called to make sure everything was all right after that. Overall, I like the security of knowing that if I fall, I don't have to be near a telephone as long as I have it on me. The quality is good and I'm fairly satisfied with it.

The people from Medical Alert are really nice. They are perfect. When you call them, they're right on there and don't hesitate. They ask me if I am okay, do I need medical help, or do I need to call somebody. I'm by myself 24 hours a day all the time. My son comes when he can but he has to work and he has a family too. I also get this Medicaid waiver and somebody comes out three days a week. So even just having them sit here with me three days a week, it makes me feel better because I see somebody that week. But this little thing from Medical Alert that I've got around my neck makes me feel 100% better and safer. It lets me feel like I have better well-being to have this around my neck. I even sleep in mine.

The light on Medical Alert unit kept coming on and off last month. The agent said that it was probably the batteries and they were gonna send us a new one. But the first couple of weeks, they didn't. So I got ahold of one lady last week and she said that she was gonna make sure they would ship it out. They did. We put it together. It's working. It's satisfying for us in case something happens. There's one time that I was outside in the yard cutting the grass. Then all of a sudden, I see an emergency ambulance pulled over my drive and come in the door. The emergency people were inside and had Rita on the stretcher. She had a stroke where she'd done it herself. She felt something came up and she pushed the button and that helped out.

My son ordered my Medical Alert device for me and I wear it as satisfaction to him. He said, "Mama, you live by yourself. Accidents do happen regardless of age. I’d feel better if you wear it around your neck so if you do have a problem you will have it." I’ve recently had good experience with them. Somebody called me and we went through some testers and things that they wanted me to go through with them. I try to remember to check it around the 1st of every month. That way, I won't be checking it too often and I'll check it often enough.
There are a lot of features this one has that I didn't like on my previous device. One day, there was a tornado alert warning and it was not very far from where I live. I didn't know anything about this thing then that I have around my neck. Somebody come on that thing and told me to take cover immediately. I would recommend Medical Alert for anybody especially if they live by themselves. I sometimes go over to my son's house and I got that with me. I also have a cellular phone but cellular phones sometimes don't work too good where I live. I thought about this but so far, when I go to check it, I haven't had any trouble getting through to get that confirmed so I feel like if I need it, it’s gonna go through.

I had a different medical alert device for several years, but I hardly ever used it. Then, I switched over to Medical Alert because I called that other company and I didn't get any response. And they turned to find out that they used it with something not quite right, so I dropped them and switched to this one. Recently, I had an incident. It wasn't an emergency, but I was doing a test and nobody came on. Then somebody at the cellular people called me and asked if there was a problem. I told them there wasn't and they said that for some reason I couldn't hear them. They told me that they would have somebody call me and see if there was something wrong because this is a new phone system. It's now a land cell instead of a regular land phone and it's got lots of problems. I talked to somebody named Jessica last week and told her about them. But nothing's changed yet. The phone is the pits and I hate it.
Despite that, I don't have any problems with the Medical Alert. But in order to use it, I had to get a new piece of equipment which increased by $96 a year. And they were charging me something but their rep said that he'd reduce it, as long as I don't change. Maybe Medical Alert should contact the telephone company and tell them that their customer is not at all happy with their service.
Other than that, someone called recently and told me about a device that I could wear around my neck which would find me wherever. It wouldn't be just here in the house but I should not wear it at night. And that's because if I fall asleep, it would alert the world. I got it and it was kind of big. Then, I have a sleep problem. I get really tired and sleep all at different times. So I got to thinking that every time I go to sleep, that's going to be to be telling them that something is wrong. So I sent it back and I haven't got my $60 back yet. But when I get my Visa credit card statement, I'm sure it'll be on there

With my age, if something happened, it's good to have Medical Alert to help me if I need it in an emergency. Thank God, I haven’t had to use it but it's there if I need it and it makes me feel safer. On the other hand, I feel like I just waste money on it. I haven't worn or used it and I don't know if I'm going to keep it. But it's better to have it than not to have it. If somebody has a condition where they would need it if something happens, especially if they are living alone, even if they’re not 50 or 60, they should have it. With Medical Alert, you feel like there's another person there that you can depend on. You could just smash a button and get help. So, it's important to anyone that needs to get help, specially in this town we’re living in.

I've had nothing but a lot of trouble with my Medical Alert. I had two of them that didn't work. I finally have one that works now. But I paid for a year then I changed it over. They charge me another $100-some. I called them 500 times. I called the lady at least twice a week and she said she was turning it over to her supervisor and they owed me a credit. But I've never seen it and I just get tired of calling them all the time. It's just been a big mess. I need to cancel it and get one that I don't have so much trouble with. I have two systems and I'm paying for both of them. I have not had a good experience at all with them.
I had another system before and it was on my phone. I haven't had any problem with them but I wanted one that I could wear around my neck. The system I had before now has one that you can wear around your neck too. I probably need to talk to them and get a better deal because I don't need to be paying for two different things. The Medical Alert I have now, I don't use that much although I pushed the button when I first got it. I usually carry my phone with me. I have it by my bed.

I set my Medical Alert off accidentally about five times, mainly in bed. I rolled over on it in bed and somebody told me I shouldn't wear it to bed. But that's where I feel I need it the most. I set it off in bed, then I have to go potty, and sometimes they're contacting me before I get back to the phone. But it hasn't been any long periods.
The only thing I don't like about it is it only works on my property. If I go downtown, it doesn't work. When I first got it, I assumed it was gonna work off of my property. So, I went to the neighbors which I go quite often, but it didn't work that far off. Now, because of this, my cousin had to buy me a cell phone to take when I went out. I normally don't use a cell phone, but I keep it in my purse all the time. The only problem that I had recently, that somebody called me to sell me the button that goes off when you fall. Today I have spoken to 6 agents, have been on hold for a total of 2 hours and am currently on hold waiting for a supervisor for the past 35 minutes. This is absolutely unnecessary. When they received the equipment, (they stated they had) they should have immediately issued a check refund to her address. Nobody has this amount of time to waste. Regardless of how good a product is, if customer service is horrendous it definitely affects the overall experience.

Now, I wear my necklace to bed 'cause I have that on my nightstand, but during the day and anyplace else, I wear that bracelet.
We had a hard time getting my phone and my jack to work in the machine part, but we finally did it. I tested my device when they said to test the unit in and out. I wanted to see how far my range is from my house if I was outside. It would go back to the fence line. I have four locks and it almost covered on the fourth lock, but not quite, but I was very well pleased with it. One time, I fell, but I caught myself 'cause I was close to the table, so I hit the alarm. When they came back on, I said, "I'd gotten up. I lost my balance, but I'm not hurt. I don't need any help."

Once, I was leaning over a pond trying to get the pump running and filling it with water and somehow, I set the device off. Then another time, I was picking up branches and one of the branches set it off. I have a pacemaker and I have to wear one around my neck and the speaker has to be in my pocket. I don’t like that but I don’t know if there is any company that can help with somebody that has a pacemaker.
Every time I call, it seems like they add something. It charges me more. This last time, it was for protection if something happened mechanically or if I broke it. I don't like the continuous adding on and they should stop. I haven't had it but six months now and there has been twice in that time that they've added on something extra and I'm not even positive what it’s for. I'm hard of hearing and I don't always understand what they're talking about. I have to assume that they're trying to help me but it just makes my bill that much bigger every month. Still, I recommended Medical Alert to a friend of mine but she hasn't decided on what she wants to do yet. Her husband is still alive so she still has some help when she needs it.

A friend of mine thought I needed a Medical Alert in case I fell. I had fallen but never to the point where I couldn't get up. But I am getting older. Interactions with customer service have been kind of good and bad. They wanted more money and wanted to upgrade my service. It would cost a lot more if I would have to pay for it if it broke. They scared me. I needed the insurance on it so I upgraded the insurance. But my son told me that I don't even use the thing. I have poor vision and I move slowly.

I'm at a certain age and I'm by myself. I figured if anything happened, I'd have to have someone that I could call. My experience with the reps at Medical Alert has been fine so far. I've had no problems. Mostly, I'm in the house, with this COVID now. When I go out, I take my device off of the charger. I put the part around my neck and I put the charger in my purse, and away I go. The only thing is they're always upping insurance for the parts for this and things like that. Whatever they charge for the month or the year, I thought that was all included. But I'm satisfied with my Medical Alert. As far as my experience with it, it's peace of mind in case you have to have help.

We purchased the Medical Alert for my husband. But he finally went to a nursing home so the kids wanted me to keep it for myself. The device is fine as long as we have power. And wearing is no bother. But I'm used to holding stuff up against me when I'm trying to do something and I set it off a few times. The response has been great. It comes on right away. The reps were good except they were bugging me about the bill that I owed them. But I got to the right person. We finally got that issue straightened out and everything's caught up. I just mailed the check Monday or Tuesday.

I got a lot of health issues and I live by myself. Then, blood thinning was causing my eyesight to go bad and before it started going bad, I thought I would get a medical alert service just in case. I feel safer with it but sometimes, I take it off to take a shower and I forget to put it back on. Still, I know that when I push the button, they' will be here in a little bit or somebody is.
I hadn’t had any trouble with the reps but they got two bills for $5 and I've been trying to get them to cancel one of them because I don't need both of them. Also, somebody’s always calling me and saying they had a free life support thing. I wonder why I have to pay all the bills on this one if theirs was free. I don't know what the difference is and I don't think that much about it. I just think that things happen. There might be a time in life that it would come in handy because I accidentally got the button pushed one day and the emergency came fast. They started immediately letting me know that it went through so I appreciate that. It wasn’t long until a cop showed up at the door. So, they do what they say they will. I thank God I hadn't had a trip and I hadn't had a reason for calling them. I got a lot of flickering on the Medical Alert device at all times though and I don't know what it is. It flickers on and off, and then there’s one that stays on a long time.

I've had Medical Alert for years and I even had one that I took in the car, so that worked out very well. But I had seen the one that automatically goes off if you fall and it didn't work for me. It was too sensitive and it went off all the time if I moved. They quickly responded with me and even when it rang by itself. But every four hours in a couple of days, it would ring and I'd have to try to get to the thing upstairs to talk to them. So, I went back to the one that I have to push, which has been very fine.
I had Medical Alert come with high blood pressure once and another problem. The policeman came and I didn't know why. Then, I was billed $25 for the policeman coming and he couldn't get in anyway because he didn't know the thing that I have outside to open the door. So, that didn't work out well. But every time I've had a problem, Medical Alert have called back immediately. I’ve had the device for about five years and I always took it in the car with me. I also took it to Florida with me so, it has been fine except the automatic one that I would never order again.

I have Medical Alert now and it's fine. I wear it around my neck. Customer service has been very good too. I have multiple problems and with some of them, time would be of the essence.
I had 23 years in the Army and I've had cancer, diabetes, and a whole bunch of things. Last evening, I had to go to the hospital because I had DVTs or deep vein thrombosis. It's a clog in a major vein. If I don’t get it treated, a clot could break out and go to the heart or the brain and I may as well kiss the world goodbye. That was why at four o’clock this morning, we were at the hospital. My wife was here and I didn't have to use the device. I also can't drive anymore and I was just diagnosed with Parkinson's. Should something happen, I would need to be able to get in contact with emergency medical people right away. On the whole, I haven’t had to use my Medical Alert but all my contacts have been very positive.

Some years back, I saw an advertisement and I had been disillusioned with Life Alert and they were priced so high I couldn't afford it, so I did have to quit it. Then I found an ad and I called Medical Alert and I was on their list for a while until I moved into this area. Every once in a while, I’d push that little button, and I had it until I moved over here. This facility here that I moved into is assisted living, and then they had their own. But all the other places that I was at, they stressed, “Wear it in the bathroom, in the shower. Don't take it off when you shower.”
I take my device off. I put it on that little ledge. It was in the shower up above the direct spray, but it did get the mist and it killed it. The rep said, “She told you no water.” I said, ”She did not. Nobody told me don’t get it wet." He said, “It’s electronic. You don’t get the electronics wet.” I said, ‘I don’t know electronics.” We had to put a $100 deposit down on that to get it. I told the guy they're gonna have to give me another one. He said for another $100, I can. So I did without it for a while. The only thing that I hadn't quite figured out is if I needed somebody here in my apartment and I pressed for Medical Alert, they wouldn't come directly to my apartment. This facility that I’m in now is built in a square. There's a courtyard in the center, and they can't get inside unless they go to the front door.
I had to push my button for Medical Alert and my daughter said that the fire department was outside and there are people. Everybody was confused. So, I need some kind of prediction. I don't think it was right for the rep to tell me “Well for another 100, you can have another pendant.” He said, “Well, they cost me more than that.” If he could have kinda given me a little browbeating like, “Don’t get it wet!” I said, “What good is it if you can’t get it in the shower?” But there is that panic button right by the shower. If you fall, you're not gonna be able to reach that panic button. Overall, I’m very satisfied with it.

I spent a couple of years doing my research and I bought the one from Medical Alert this past spring. The device is the big one that catches you anywhere so I don't have to be within 100 feet or whatever that number is. I can go to town and if fall in the parking lot like I've done a couple of times, it'll send an alert. They're quick on answering it when I push the button by accident. I'm grateful that I have it because I'm moving from a huge house to a much smaller house. I don't have to use those stairs as much as I have to in this house. So we'll just see how a year goes and what happens.
Medical Alert could’ve had somebody come here and show me how to deal with some of the problems I had with the product itself, not how it would operate. The one I'm wearing is the one that goes off all over the place if I go beyond my little amount that you're supposed to stay in when you're wearing it. The string that holds it around your neck was so long and huge and I had no idea what the mechanism of the whole thing was. It was hanging everywhere so I just hacked it off. I'm doing the best I can but it still really needs to be prettied up. If they had been able to do a better job with that, I would’ve been a lot happier.

I usually take it out into the garage with me, but for some reason, the one time that you don’t do something, that’s when it’s needed. I had my cellphone with me and it rang. It was my daughter. She asked if I was all right. I said that I was fine. I asked that was wrong and she said that the ambulance was on the way. I told them I was fine and that it was a mistake. It was nice to know that the device works.

Medical Alert is great. I had hit the device a couple of times where it was a mistake and they answered right away. I told them I hit it by accident and then they wrote it down. But yesterday, I fell and they called me, and we had no problem. I asked them to call one of my emergency contacts, my husband. I think they decided to have the paramedics come.
My husband was at the grocery store checking out so he couldn't get right over here. But I was all right. When the paramedics came, I told them that my walker was over there and I was over here, and when my husband came home, he said, "See, I told you to use the walker all the time." I had hit my head but the paramedics did a neuro exam with the light. They felt my whole head and I didn't have any bumps. They checked my blood pressure and asked me if I wanted to go to the hospital. I didn’t think it was necessary. Everything happened fast and I'm doing okay today.

I don’t do it any more than I have to, and I take precautions even though I have the Medical Alert. But I pull the weeds that I wouldn’t pull otherwise. They are wonderful and very nice. I decided to get a Medical Alert device because I’m up in age and being alone. Everything is fine with my Medical Alert.
Reviewed May 21, 2020
I'm 92 years old and I don't have any family here. I have a helper during the week, but I live alone at night and on the weekends. I needed the protection. My niece in Atlanta told me to get something, and I did, but I wasn't very happy with it. I decided to change companies and I changed to Medical Alert, and I've been very happy so far. If I fall, then I can just punch the button and somebody would at least talk to me. However, this thing that I bought is more sophisticated. If I fell over unconscious, that's not very good for me, so I'm getting ready to cancel that part of the plan.
Still, one of the best things that I like about Medical Alert is when I got the little collar around my neck, and then, they also sent me a watch that I could put on my wrist. I absolutely love that because I don't like the thing hanging around my neck. My device is only for in my condo, not outside, and I keep that with me all the time, either on my wrist or in the pocket of my shirt when I'm at home. It also has a testing program on it that I'm supposed to do every month and I've done it twice. When we test it, it comes on and I talk to somebody immediately, so I like that a lot. They ask if I need help as well.
Another thing is that, I don't have to charge the device. It stays charged because it goes through the electric system. The other company's phone that hangs around the neck didn't stay charged very well and I had to charge it myself. All in all, I'm very happy with Medical Alert's product and it makes me feel secure because if I were to fall up here on the weekend, my helper wouldn't find me 'til 9 o'clock on Monday morning, so I could be here from Friday night 'til Monday if I didn't have some device.

I'm an epileptic, so I have to have a device that has fall detection. I had another one before and it was supposed to have fall detection but it didn’t. I had a seizure and I don’t know how long I laid outside. On the other hand, the Medical Alert device has indicated the seizure every time and there's an immediate contact with my husband as well. Technology is life-saving. One time, I had a seizure and my husband was sleeping soundly, so he didn't know. The unit went off and they called him immediately. He got up and he found me around the bed on the floor. They asked if we needed an ambulance and he said yes, so they came. They wouldn’t disconnect until the EMT spoke with him too.
Medical Alert is absolutely fantastic and I couldn’t ask for a better company. I wouldn’t change it either. When I’ve called in for questions or for testing, they had wonderful customer service. The unit also goes off and says a fall has been detected when I’m in my office and I accidentally moved and it has hit the desk. I then hold it for two seconds so it shuts off. All in all, I’m very pleased with it.

I fall down and can’t get up, and when I got on the internet, I found Medical Alert. I read about it and so I went ahead with the project. However, the necklace part, the black cord, of my device had worn out so I had to get a metal chain. The chain is fine except for the little metal clasp that clamps the two black strings together that go to the pendant. Those stick into my skin and they're irritating. But Medical Alert does good work. They want to call an ambulance but unless I am hurt, I don't need an ambulance. I just need the fire department to get me up. So if I call the fire department, they pick me up and when they evaluate that I'm hurt, then that's the time for the ambulance, not initially.

I had a Medical Alert that I sent back. I didn't like it. It couldn't get on very well and it took forever. Also, it was too big, it kept bumping things. I was getting that automatic falling, and that was not necessary. Then, I got a letter thing. I've never sent it back, and they were stopping me June 15th. But, the day before that, I called about the billing. I do automatic banking on my computer banking, and they had charged me $271. That was the price they charged when I got the first one. They charged that twice, and I was not using that.
I was paying monthly on the second one I got with the smaller bracelet, and I also called about that. They were charging this $271 again. And that was the sixth month's charge for the first one I had. Also, they were charging me monthly, so the whole thing was like $307. I called and the girl said they would give me a refund. They were going to give me $220, so it was less than I was charged. And I got this charge they were making was for June. Anyway, I let go of that, and I got that settled.
Then the next day, they have sent this big, long legalist form that I couldn't even get through. It was a very small print. When I got this letter saying they were dropping me, I couldn't call back about that. So, I didn't want it anymore with all this confusion. The company didn't seem to know what was going on. The shipping and handling was not getting in touch with the financial part, so it was a big mess. So, I canceled everything. In the beginning, nevertheless, I did not have any complaints about it.

I told him it was. My daughter my and granddaughter had their chargers plugged into it and they worked so I knew that outlet worked. He kept trying to act like it wasn't plugged up and that was why it wasn't working. I said that it has been plugged in ever since I got it. He asked if I tested it. I told him I did two or three times, and it worked every time. But when I needed it, it wasn't there. He kept arguing with me and acting like it was my fault it didn't work. She did then that thing started working when it was unplugged. Then Medical Alert called and asked if I needed help. I said I did a long time ago and they weren't there for me. Thus, I couldn't get satisfaction at all. I told them that I would send it back and that I wanted my money back. It cost $170 to get it started and then they were taking $30 out of my account a month. They said I'd get every penny I paid to them. But they haven't sent it to me. I don't wanna discourage anybody. I live alone and I had a heart attack in September. I figured that I really should have something. I decided on the Medical Alert and I've had it since October. But I got very confused because everything wasn't explained fully in the beginning and I really got upset about it. The testing and how to do things were not explained properly. Never having one before or not knowing exactly what to do, it just didn't sit right with me. I did not know I had to take that charger out of the unit and take it with me everywhere I went. But now, I understand that I have to have that with me which only makes sense. So far, so good.
But I did not know that the watch one could be used either as a necklace or a watch. I did not know that that did not register if I fell. When I called and spoke to a representative, she mailed me the teardrop. But I found out there was a $10 additional charge and I'm confused about that. Now, instead of 40.94 a month, it's costing me 50.94 a month. I love the system and it's very good but they should explain things a little more carefully. When their rep found out that I didn't know, she tried to tell me that I gotta do this. I said we needed to start from square one. I raised my voice and I overspoke her. But after that, everything was fine.
There was a time I wore the teardrop and I had a turtleneck sweater on. The teardrop was on the outside of the sweater and I went out. It was like a necklace and it was moving around. About 10 minutes after I got home, I had the rescue and the fire department here. They knocked on the door and I told them to come in. They asked if I was all right to which I replied I was fine. They said they had been trying to reach me as my unit kept going off. I said, "My unit goes off? Nobody called me."
I found out during this instance that when they call to see if you are all right, it comes up as an unknown number. When you answer the phone, they say, "Medical Alert." I don't answer my phone if it comes up as an unknown number because there are too many spam things going on and too many con artists. I told them that. They told me to check my phone because they were on the line with the rescue department. They had tried to get me four times. Sure enough, it was all unknown or a mobile number. It was not from around here too. I didn't like that. When Medical Alert calls you, it should say something on your phone other than unknown.

Upon requesting an easier-to-use lanyard, we are told that there is no option. Bear in mind, we pay $35 a month for this. I was told to go to the website and maybe a different unit would have a different lanyard. Upon checking, I see no pictures or descriptions of lanyards on units. I feel the reps don't really want to deal with customers unless there is a sale involved. We recently identified fraudulent charges on my elderly mother's credit card. When the situation was relayed to Medical Alert, they refused to refund her money... Here is the full story: My mother ordered an alert necklace in January 2018. It arrived without any instructions or even a phone number to call. She is over 80 years old and did not know what to do. She assumed the company would call her to activate the product. They never called, but proceeded to charge her $49.99 each month.
In January 2020, we identified this bogus charge to the credit card. Mom found the device that she had put away with a note that no instructions were provided. I got the company's phone number from the credit card. Medical Alert told me that they shipped the product on January 23, 2018 and that it was first plugged in on January 26, 2020. For over 2 years, they charged my 82-year old mother $49.99 a month, all the time knowing that the device had NEVER been turned on. This fee was supposedly to "monitor" the device; however, their own computer system identified that it had never been turned on. Medical Alert is taking advantage of seniors. There are many other reputable companies that provide medical alert systems. For the safety of your family, look elsewhere.

I have been trying to get refunds for incorrect monthly charges since August, 2019. I've spoken to 8 different customer support reps (I keep very detailed notes) and still no resolution. My mother got a pendant in the mail (out of the blue and unsolicited). I was told on multiple different calls that a return label would be forthcoming, with the first time being on 8/17/19. It was never received. Finally, on 11/4/19 I asked if the label could be emailed to me. Eventually I got the label and the pendant was returned. However, $10 was still charged to my credit card every month. Each time that I’ve called Medical Alert, I’ve expressed my frustration and anger at what I consider their nonchalant and slow response to crediting me the monthly $10 fee for a pendant we didn’t request and has been returned.
I was charged again for the month of January! If only they could apply their efficiency in refunding me as they do in charging the annual subscription cost. My latest effort has been on January 16, 2020. The rep said that she would follow up with me no later than January 20, 2020. I won’t hold my breath since Medical Alert has an awful track record. I wonder if there’s anybody at that company that can provide me feedback and finally resolve my problem.

First, had to pay for installation. Then product didn't work well when tested so had to be returned. Replacement didn't come with fall detection, which is what was ordered and paid for. Found out because of a call to company for a different issue and they're the ones who said it didn't have it. So another replacement sent. Customer service employees weren't on same page ever. New item to be worn on neck along with carrying the GPS mobile LTE in pocket or in purse. Seriously too much for an aging woman to think about. When I called to cancel, no return label will be sent, nor box. Mom, will have to figure this out. I live in another state. I find it difficult to believe Medical Alert helps elderly people considering the mess this was from beginning to end. I am thankful we didn't have an emergency!

I needed a medical alert system and I ordered one through Medical Alert. I was in the garage and I had the door open. It was raining, and I couldn’t get up. I was cleaning my deep freeze out there and I kind of slipped. I thought, “I’m gonna fall. I might as well sit down and I can get up,” and I couldn’t get up at all. I was on the other side of the garage, and I crawled to the door of the garage to see if I can lift myself up by holding on to the retracts and I couldn’t. I crawled over to the porch and I couldn’t do anything on the porch, and I was getting wet. Finally, with all the effort I had, I held on to everything, and it took me an hour to get in the house. And I thought, “Well, listen, lady. You’re 95. You better get one.” I feel safer and a little more secure ever since they plugged my system in. I’ve been happy as a lark.
Medical Alert called me and wanted me to change over to another system where if I fell down and will be unconscious, it will be better. But it was a larger unit. Also, it wasn’t gonna serve my purposes. When I got the information on it, it said that I had to take it off at night. I don’t take this one off at night, because if I get up at night, I won’t risk anything. I gotta be careful because if I break an arm, a leg, or my back, I’ll be in a nursing home, and I can’t afford a nursing home. I live alone, too. I’m using a walker in the house and I’m really watching what I do, and I don’t walk and talk. And if I go someplace, I go with my family.
I’m supposed to test my Medical Alert device every month. I’m afraid to do it for fear I don’t get it turned back on right. But my niece is a nurse and she comes and takes me to the doctors. And so I have her help me, and we do it. The girls at Medical Alert are so nice. I asked, “Aren’t I supposed to be paying you a bill for the following year?” The rep said, “Well, I can do it right here.” She went ahead and took care of it, and I paid $200 for the year. I’d gladly pay it.

My husband was falling a lot, so we got the Medical Alert. He had to push the emergency button quite a few times and we really liked their response time. I was surprised that it was so quickly. They called and talked to us to let us know if we needed help or if it was a false alarm. And then one time that he was alone at the house, they contacted me because he did not respond to them. So it worked out very nicely. But my concern would be the bracelet or the wristband that he wears. The plastic makes his wrists break out in bright red. The material needs to be changed.

After seeing an ad for Medical Alert, I called and talked to somebody. I got the device and I call them when I test it. I’m in fairly good health and I go out a lot. I got it ‘cause I’m alone, and I now feel more secure. I should be wearing it all the time but I don’t, which is a bad habit. I haven’t gotten the habit of wearing it around regularly but I have it by my nightstand, and it’s about where it stays. Other than that, the Medical Alert reps have called me now and then and they would ask me if I’ve checked it and so forth. The periodical call is good and I appreciate that.

We cancelled this service because my low income senior mom was paying for two different services of the same thing. We called on September 24th to cancel and they told me they were sending me a shipping label to send the obsolete unit back. The shipping label never arrived. When I called to find out where the shipping label was they send they would email it to me. They took another payment of $66.00 on October 1. We never received the email.
When I called again to see where the email was they said they didn't have to give me the shipping label, it was just a courtesy. When we finally realized they were not going to send the shipping label I spent 20$ to mail it through the post office. I called to tell them the until was sent through the email and asked about a October 1 reimbursement for the service we were no longer using. They said they would not reimburse unless the obsolete unit arrived back within 15 days. They received the obsolete unit on the 16th day and they refuse to reimburse my low income senior mother the $66.00 for the over charge.
Don't fool yourself, this is big business. They do not care about seniors. They will transfer you around on the phone many times and put you on hold. They will always say they are going to get their supervisor to call you back. They will not inquire if you already have a service. All they care about is the $66.00/month. The only time they ever called me was when her battery was low or inquiring if I wanted to sign up with them again. There are much better services out there. At the very least do not sign up as direct debit out of your account. Pay by check so that you can cancel it yourself. They seem to be in the business of taking advantage of seniors. Buyer Beware on this one.

Medical Alert's customer service is very good. I never had to use it for a real emergency. But I tapped it accidentally and turned it on, and the response was very good. I’m very pleased that it works. I’m a very active person. I play tennis most days of the week. But my wife is in a nursing home, and I want something for myself at home just in case. My Medical Alert device gives me peace of mind. I don’t wear it when I’m playing tennis. And I try to wear the wristband every night. So, I have to be careful because it broke once when I bent down to pick up a package that was on the floor. I have one of those medallions that if you fall, it will activate it. But just bending down low to the floor to pick up a package, it activated it.
As far as the wristband, I have it strapped at a point where I can slide my hand into it. Other than that, it seems awkward for me to be able to unloosen it completely and then taking it off every time. And I understand why, but there should be some kind of adjustment that it’s easy on and off. It could be like a watch with an expanded wristband in that you don’t have to adjust it every time. Also, the home unit I got has a cord of a certain length, and my plug that I use is behind my king size bed and it barely stretches beyond the bed for it to be placed on my nightstand. But other than that, whenever I call for help, Medical Alert had been very helpful in helping me to organize things.

Medical Alert's service was good, but I didn't care for the system because I had to charge up the battery every day. Maybe I didn't have to, but I did. Then you carry around a little base in your pocket or you have to carry a unit in your purse or your pocket whenever you go anywhere. It's too much of a hassle and too complicated for older people. There are too many steps to take before it works. It works, but you have to do certain procedures. I wanted something easy.
Also, there's a system that you put around your neck in case you fall down and you don't need the unit in your purse. I asked, "What good is the other one? If I fall down, what happens?" One goes off automatically and the other one, you have to press the button. I didn't keep it because it was too big and they said it has to show and it has to be around your neck. Even if I'm old, I don't want anything showing in my neck. When I fell down because a dog attacked me, I broke my shoulder and pelvis. I didn't have a Medical Alert, but if I had, maybe I wouldn't have been on the ground forever. Other than that, they've been very nice to me. I'm just waiting for my refund, but they keep calling me. I had someone call me today and asked me about the tracking. I said that I sent it via FedEx. They wanted the tracking number and I didn't have it. I searched the companies on Google and looked at the benefits and prices, then I talked to a couple of people including the Medical Alert salesman and they were very patient with me because I was waiting. I got to the point where I’d be going into the shower myself which was the scariest. I haven’t fallen, but I’ve had issues. I figured, for me and for my kids’ peace of mind, it was good to have something around my neck in the shower. I had a seven-day-a-week aide coverage and I needed to wait till that was over ‘cause there was no need for me to pay for a device when I had somebody with me all the time so that’s how I came to Medical Alert.
The one issue I had was when my son came and installed it for me, there were discrepancies in the instructions in the booklet and online. If we'd look in the booklet, and then we'd look in the online instructions, there was a difference in the order of what we plugged into what and what we unplugged. The plugins’ ends weren’t exactly the same. We thought that we had the wrong cord. Eventually, we fixed it so it worked. But I still couldn’t get the phone and the machine far enough apart. Getting it set up was a minor problem ‘cause I couldn’t physically bend down and plug things into the wall. I had to have my son come and do it. The installation instructions contradicted themselves. We worked it out in the end, so it was okay.
There were a couple of times when I was drying myself vigorously that I accidentally set the device off. The people called me back instantly and I apologized. But thank god I haven’t needed it. My question is that if I fall and I’m nowhere near the phone, it’ll go off, I don't know if I can talk to them through the device. The thing is if they can’t reach anyone, they just send the ambulance. So, even if I fell in the shower, I couldn’t get to the phone. I'd call them and find out about it.

I had ADT. I took up the GPS from them, but the pendant was too big and I just wasn’t comfortable. So, I still have the security system with them, but I have the Medical Alert too. I’ve talked to plenty of people about them and I mainly wanted it for the GPS. That was my big thing. The only issue I’ve had with it since then, and it’s major, is it is too sensitive. I keep getting calls. At the same time, I’m wondering if I hit my wrist on the chair while I’m sitting here, or if you drop the neck one, will it go off? And that’s okay because I understand that. I like the fact that it makes me feel safe. I was in Maine and I got a message from them last summer. So, that works.
The other thing is I cannot hear the message when it comes on. I have it almost in the center of the house, and I cannot hear what they’re saying. I know what they’re saying because I’ve heard it from here, but I can’t hear it from my bedroom. I don’t understand why the volume doesn’t go a bit higher to repeat message. I wish it could be heard while you’re two rooms away. I know we wear the neck one all the time, which I should in the shower. And the wrist one should be worn when I go out. But then I have to wear the other one when I go out if I’m alone because there’s a GPS on it. These are issues that I’d like corrected and I was gonna call, if they can be corrected. Other than that, I’m fine with the product. I like it.
