Before, I can push the button and the operator comes on. Medical Alert upgraded the machine and now, they're saying I got to dial a number in order to get through to them. If I'm falling down on the floor, I ain’t got no time to be trying to dial a number. If I can dial a number, then I don't need them. I’d just call 911, and I can keep my money I'm sending to Medical Alert every year. I lost the bracelets and now I have the little computer machine. They told me I can carry it around with me and no matter where I am, I can still get through to them. At this point, I'm satisfied with it because I haven't had problems with it.

I feel better and happier since having Medical Alert. If something comes up, I can mash it in a minute. When I accidentally hit it, they called right away. With the new device, they can tell if I fall. Also, if it got hit, they’ll know and they’ll call right in a minute. Because last night when I was putting it on charge, they called. The reps that I talked to were nice. I had to use it one time and they sent people out right away and then took me right in the hospital.

I test the device every so often and it works good. The new one is a little small. I like the other button that went around your neck better, but that's okay. I got used to it. I had to use it one time. When I was in the bathroom, I fell and I couldn't get up. I was caught in a place where I couldn't get myself around to wiggle out. I pressed the button and the guy asked me what I needed. I told him I fell and I needed some help. In just a matter of a few minutes, the fire department came down and got me out.

They put me in a rehab place for about nine days and then a physical therapist came over and showed me some leg exercises to do one step like that.

If I'm in the kitchen and I fall, the emergency button of the other device that I would press is in the bedroom and that's inconvenient. I like that I got the necklace on my Medical Alert. It's wonderful to have because if I'm out walking, I just take it with me and press the button and help is right there. I referred it to a woman on the third floor and she bought one too. Then I will call this afternoon and have my device tested. They told me I should do that every month, and sometimes, I've skipped it. I've forgotten.

I hang it around my neck and I know it's there and I can push it when I need it. I forget to check in with it a lot of times and they'll call and tell me I need to check it on the machine. I used my Medical Alert unintentionally once. I was in bed. I didn't know I rolled over and it set it off. And it was early in the morning. The next thing I heard was pounding on my door. And there were two police officers at my door who wanted to know if I was okay. I asked, “Why?" And he said, “Well, your medic alert went off, and you didn't answer. And they sent us.” I said, I was fine. So, at night, I put it on the nightstand beside me so I don't roll over on it anymore. I know it works. It makes me feel that not only that I'm in bed and I can't get out fast, if there would be a fire or somebody tried to break in, I can always press that. They would get that help for me. I appreciate it. I'm here most of the time by myself. And I just turned 84. So, it's a comfort to me to know that if I would fall or something and couldn't get up for it or something, what happened, there is something here that can help me.

There have been a couple of times that I bumped the device and it went off, and I would call and apologize. They would say, “Well, don't worry about it. Those things happen. That's why we're here. If it goes off and you didn't do it, it's just one of those accidents. It happens.” I'm satisfied with it. People have asked me what it is. Sometimes I'm out on the porch. Neighbors can pass and say, “What do you have wearing around your neck?” I would tell them. And they said, “Oh, that's how they do it.” So, even the necklace itself, when I have it on, people recognize it.

When I first got this Medical Alert, I had a bracelet that I could wear that would buckle up. But this one, you have to snap it and I can't keep it snapped good. One time, I lost it because the snaps came undone. So, I would love to have one that buckles on my arm. The last time, they sent me a thing that hang around my neck and you have to snap it on. I used to keep it on all the time. It still has that long, stringy thing on there when I have to fasten it up. But I don't like that either.

A week ago, I was in church and the little travel thing was in my purse, and I must have twisted my arm a little bit and that thing went off. The recording kept coming on asking for my location. I kept saying that I was in church and that I didn’t need them. They were slow about coming around to see if I was alright. It was so embarrassing to me. Finally, they got to me and I told them not to do this to me. It’s not like it used to be when I first got on Medical Alert. I decided to do it myself and I'm happy that I did but I don’t like those things well as the response time. But I used Medical Alert the other night. I took a bath and I was in the tub and I couldn't get out. I stayed in the tub for about two hours and finally hit that button. It took a while for the reps to understand where I was because I was in the bathroom and the travel thing was sitting by my bed. They finally got it and the people who came in were very nice.

I used my device once. I fell off my walker, landed on the floor, and I was glad that I had that button at the time. I pulled myself from the hallway, where I was, to the front door because I wasn't quite sure if the EMS would get in, but apparently, they have keys. There were four EMS people who came in and they were right on time. I was sitting on the floor and one guy looked down on me and asked, "How are you doing?" I said, "I look kind of stupid sitting on the floor." He said, "No, you're not looking stupid," but I felt stupid because I could not move my legs. I was trying to push my walker because I was coming out of the bedroom toward my couch, and I couldn't make it.

I wore my device like a chain, and every time I went to move, it would click on and then we had a problem. I couldn't even touch it without it coming on. The other person at the other end wanted to know what had happened, where I was located, and this went on for four times. I kept telling them, "Ma'am, I'm sitting in the bus. Ma'am. I'm sitting on the couch. I'm fine. There's nothing wrong with me. Yeah." Medical Alert wasn't working for me. It caused me a lot of problems, and I had it sent back.

I got along fine with Medical Alert and it has kept me alive. It’s great but I never used it. There was one time that instead of using it, I called my granddaughter and she lives in Hermiston, which is about 150 miles from me. Then, I called the other granddaughter, which is only six miles from me. I told them I was dying so they called their father and the next thing I knew, he was right here in the living room and so was my daughter-in-law. What a time I had. They called the ambulance and I died going to the hospital. I left a deal that if I'm not savable, they should not work on me. I didn't want to have a burden on them. I said that if they could save me and I'm gonna be all right, keep me alive. So, they did. I've lived now three months since that happened and I'm thankful. I should have used Medical Alert and I did not because I didn’t want to have the ambulance come.

Medical Alert costs quite a bit but it's worth it. I would recommend it to anybody because this one now checks me even a long ways from the house. I had to be in the house to have the one I had before work and I couldn't have reached anybody. I fell off of my back porch and I didn't use it because it didn't do me any good. I was too far away from it. But I had it for a long time and now, Medical Alert will get me anywhere I want to go. So, it's all right. People should push that button if they need help and they should not be afraid of it because that's what they need. When I had that terrible problem, I didn't push the button. I wanted to talk to them, which was why, but I knew what was happening.

My son got Medical Alert for me. I've taken over the payments of it. But they were concerned about me living alone, so he applied for it. I hit it once just going by a table, and a voice came on the machine. It was just an accident that I hit it. I just hit the clear button and I got no calls on it. So, it didn't even go through, so it's fine. But the service has been fine. And any of the representatives I've talked to have been polite and helpful.

My understanding is that if I use it, if I call, that the ambulance service has to come. Two of my children live right in town. They would be here quickly. We live in a small town, volunteer EMTs, and fire people. There should be a step between calling for this and an ambulance showing up at your door. The children should be notified first and let them make the decision. And maybe that's a waste of time, but it's a waste of time to call a whole squad here when there's no emergency.

There's a light blinking on the device and it's low power. And the only problem I have with that when the power goes off is the people that Medical Alert is supposed to respond to might get a message from them 24 hours later that something's wrong with me. We know the power was off for five minutes a day ago. And when my children got the message, they didn't respond to it. I talked to someone who said, “Oh, yes. We will connect you. You need to have that machine replaced.” And they said, “Well, we don't replace. When it's only five years old, we don't replace them.” I got nowhere. So, I just don't pay much attention to it. But it just makes the children feel better for me to have it. So, I'm very grateful that I can still live alone and I'm able to be somewhat mobile.

I have a little more protection with Medical Alert so I went for the brand and I’ve had it for years. Every three months, I test the device and customer service is a little slow. It takes a couple of minutes. I had another company for a while and they were right on deck every time. It was a much better response time than Medical Alert. I also had some problems with it and it took them a couple of months. But once they got started on it, everything was taken care of. The machine I had was so old and I got a new one. The only thing was I got it in the mail and Medical Alert does not know that I have it. I pay 40 bucks a month for my Medical Alert and now, you can get it for $10 a month. That's quite a difference. I read all the stuff that came with it and it didn't say anything about the price going up after the second month. I would check around because there are a lot of different ones now.

I live alone and I work in the yard a lot. If I'm in the bath, nobody knows it, so I love having my button on. It gives me much peace of mind at night because even if someone's breaking into my home and cuts the landline, I can always push my button. I'm not worried anymore about sounds or anything I hear. I know that I've got help quicker than a phone call. I always feel good even in the car 'cause wherever I go, it's going with me. If I end up at the end of the road or off the road, I know I can get help. I see it more not so much health but safety.

I tried to get it up where it was suggested that I wear it. But whatever that necklace is made of, it slips down, and I can't get it tightened, so I'm never comfortable with where it is on my body. Then when I was talking to the lady and trying to test it, we ran into trouble, and then she told me that it was my button and to mail it back. They would mail me another one and they would overnight it to me. I mailed mine back, but it took a couple of days before I got it. That was a little aggravating, but nothing I couldn't deal with. Now I help a friend in cleaning buildings and there have been times I've been leaning over a desk, cleaning the bank, or getting a trashcan, and the button goes off. Usually, I hold it, and they know it's not an emergency.

I'm glad to have my device even though I set it off a few times by accident. I'm only 4’10 and the garbage cans that we got are tall. I had a bag of newspapers and I braced it on my chest to get it up and over. Evidently, I set it off and didn't hear it because I was outside. Then I put the garbage in there, took it out to the road, come back in the house, then I got my coffee and I was walking past the front door, and they were out in front of my house. I felt so stupid telling them it was an accident.

Then the second time, I had the wristband on, I rolled over and the wristband hit the TV remote and set it off. I heard the phone that time when they called me but I couldn't hear the machine as I was upstairs. By the time I got my glasses and crawled out of bed to see who it was, they had dispatched somebody by the time I called. They were there within five minutes. I felt kinda stupid at that time, too. At 4 o'clock in the morning, they came. Overall, Medical Alert is a godsend and it gives a lot of peace knowing that there's somebody that can get to you when you can't get to a phone.

I find the Medical Alert intrusive. I was sitting here one night, talking on the phone, and apparently, my hand hit the button. I was wearing one around the neck. And the next thing I know, the fire department was in my bedroom. Also, I barely even breathe on the one that I have and it goes off. Perhaps Medical Alert could make it a little tougher to accidentally hit it. I haven't had good experiences with it, but I realize, it's a necessary evil.

My daughter-in-law insisted that I get Medical Alert. She said that they would know where I would be all the time if they needed to. The device is a pain at times. Wearing glasses with the thing on your face all the time is irritating. It would have been a lot easier if it had been a wristwatch. The device also flops out between the buttons of my shirt sometimes. When I bend over to pick something up off the floor, it sometimes falls out and I have to tuck it back in. I put up with those.

The device isn't a bad size and it's not uncomfortable. But I don't sleep with it. I tried that and it irritated me when I rolled around. It could wake me up. I have it right alongside my bed and I can reach it on the table. I don't take it in the shower either and lay it on the toilet right alongside the shower instead. I have my phone there also in case I need it. Medical Alert wanted to put more onto it and I didn't want it. The rep said they were gonna straighten that out. Having Medical Alert is like having a dog around to protect you when you go for a walk. It's something that you don't have to have but it makes you feel a little bit safer.

If it gets bumped, it notifies me that a fall has been detected, then there will be a response and then the response says that they are locating my location. The device is very touchy, but I understand why. But there's so many times like putting laundry in the washer, and I just bend over and that comes down the least little bit and touches the top of the washer, and it will set off. There were times when Tyrus, my little dog, has bumped it, fell on me and made it go off. It's very very sensitive, but I appreciate that if I should fall or something should happen.

Even though I live in an apartment house where if I need help, and I can get to the phone, they have all my information as to where my children are. I feel a little bit more secure that I have this that I could use and especially with the newer one that I just bought, that helps me if I fall and I can't reach it. At least that would notify that I need help.

This is a very sensitive device though and it was long in the beginning. Every time I bend over, I was setting it off. My son shortened it for me a little bit, and that helped a little bit. I found out the string around the neck is expansive. You shorten it and it lengthens again because of the weight of the advice. He has to shorten it again. But I'm getting used to it being there. I'm not such a nuisance to them now, but I was getting in trouble with that two times a day or more. But they've been wonderful. Thank God, I've never had to use it all the years I've had it. They said that it didn't detect falls, that I wasn't paying for fall detection, when it did detect falls. A couple of times, if I was at the doctor's, I would take the device off and put it in my purse. Then when I would leave the doctor's, I would go to the car and kind of drop my purse on to the seat of the car, and the thing would alarm. So it had detected that fall. I need to talk with them more about it to make sure I'm getting the protection because there were times when I fell and it didn't detect the fall. I tested it and it didn't detect that I had dropped it purposely. So I don't depend on that as much as I depend on the device that I can press the button and talk to someone. I carry that with me all the time. In fact, I take it to the shower with me and if I'm walking around the house, I keep it on the floor. In case I fall, then I can crawl over to it. We got Medical Alert late March. My husband is very ill and I didn't feel good for a few days. I told my husband when we went to bed that night, “Oh, I hope I feel better in the morning.” I woke up about 4 o'clock in the morning and could not get out of bed. I've tried off and on for two hours to get out of bed. I could raise up a little, and that was it. My hands and feet worked, but I couldn't get out of bed. My husband woke up and I said, “You need to call 911.” It ended up that my blood pressure was really low, and I had pneumonia and some other infection. I spent a few days in the hospital, and that really scared me. If I had been here alone, I would have just laid there and died. We decided to get Medical Alert.

We test the device once a month. They have me to push the Help button and then talk to me once a month for the test. They respond really quickly. The longest it's been was like 20 seconds before the person came on. Having Medical Alert makes me feel more confident. We got the one we wear around our neck because I didn't want something for my wrist. I feel like at night, I'd have better luck with around my neck. I didn't wanna get one that’s a phone because unless I have it in bed with me and could get it real simple, that wouldn’t have helped me.

The one I wear around my neck is really lightweight. You don't even know you have it. That's good, too because I've seen a couple of them on TV that I thought, “It looks like they’re wearing their cellphone around their neck.” I don’t think I want that. Initially, they told me that the device would be coming in the mail in five to 10 business days, and we got it two days later. I was really impressed. I had called Life Alert, and they’re well over $100 a month. We’re paying about 37 to Medical Alert. Also, they always know my name, check my address and stuff with me when I called to check it. The team stinks. They're very poorly educated about the equipment. They want me to test every month. I called and asked a simple question, how do I test, 'cause the manual didn't tell either. The first girl told me to hold the button down for five seconds. Then she put me on to somebody else who said to call this certain phone number. I did that and they said that I was calling the wrong number. I then called the number that's on the back of my unit and they told me I was calling the wrong number, which was in the manual as well. They gave me the right one. I put it down on a Post-it note and put it beside my telephone because that's the only way I know what number to call to test my unit monthly.

The unit goes off all the time as it has the fall feature. If I breathe or if I move my shirt the least little bit, it goes off. Of course, I hit the button and cancel the call. But it's aggravating. I already recommended it to a friend in Florida and she signed up last week. But I told her the problems I had with it and I guided her around what she's going to have to do.

The device is on the table right here beside me. It just sits and minds its own business. I have the alert device and then I have the heart monitor because I have a pacemaker. There are all kinds of ways to them being notified. They changed it because I just had it for in the house, but I needed it for the outside and out areas. I feel somewhat better having this device. The other day, I was out in the yard and I fell over in an iron chair, and it was very old. I love the outside, and I was leaning over to the side, and the chair just eased on down to the ground. My husband was here and he helped me. But if he had not been here, I wouldn't have been able to get up. I had the medical device and that gave me more security. The Medical Alert team said, “Well, maybe ‘cause you have carpeting.” Our whole house is carpeted. So, that kinda leaves it a little weird. One fall was in the kitchen after that and that did not go off then either. Then the other night, we had a weird call. I was asleep. I sleep only 20 feet away from the box itself. I did not hear it. I did not hear the phone. The police were at the door and what woke me up was the knocking at the door, which I don't quite understand. I had to leave my husband alone one Saturday. I had to go to a funeral. I was gone maybe an hour and a half and he was in bed and knew I was going there. He fell getting dressed, and he was on the floor and couldn't get up. He just laid there until I got back. He never pushed the button because he doesn't think that it's necessary.

You can’t move at all really with it, and when you press the button, it goes off so much. Other than that, they definitely respond all the time. I feel bad because it has accidentally gone off so many times. But at least they were there asking if I needed help and that emergency could be on the way. Then, they would always ask me if there was anyone else there that I was with to reach out to someone for an emergency. So I’d rather for it to go off when I need it or when I don’t need it, instead of not going off when I really need it.

When Medical Alert's reps call, they're very polite and very professional. I wear the device around my wrists all the time and it's part of my lifestyle. It's been great.

Medical Alert is much better than what I had. It's great, because if I fall, it goes with me, where my other one didn’t. And when I can charge it, it tells me when it's charging. And when I put it on, it also tells me that it’s charging. I had to wear the whole, big button and everything else and that was heavy. But using it, I feel much better than I did. I’m all for Medical Alert. I would recommend it to anybody and I am well pleased with it.

The reason I got the Medical Alert device was that I fell. The rep was very nice. I was explained well. I wear the device around my neck. If I want to take a shower, I have to take it off. I was told to use it every month to try it out. I used it once and I poked it, but I wasn’t in a falling mood. But when I fell, I didn't have it anywhere near me. I had to go on my backside on a hard floor. It was a little difficult for me. I then pushed the alarm but I didn't get anything. I didn't know if Medical Alert called back or not. I'm going to change it. I'm gonna call the telephone company and get an answer service.
