Medical Alert is a good thing to have around in case of an emergency. It makes you feel better knowing that you can pick that phone up or push a button and get some help.

I was living alone and I was afraid if I fall. My family kept pushing me to get Medical Alert. Now, I’m not alone, but it’s still a good thing to have when I go out. I feel safer having it. When I'm dressed up, it's a little awkward but it's okay. It’s not heavy or uncomfortable. I put it underneath my camisole. I like it because I can slip it inside something. It's really not that noticeable.

I’m satisfied with Medical Alert. I keep my bracelet on all the time except when I'm showering. The only problem I have is the band is elastic and it gets stretched out. Whenever I had the original system set up, I had the same problem. I had an elastic band that wore out. They sent me a replacement that buckled, more like a belt does. That was good until the new system came out. I had to return it along with the old system. I also forget to do the test thing once a month. Sometimes I will get a call to remind me of the testing.

I thought it was a door that was open and I pushed it and, sure enough, I rang it and did a bad thing. I accidentally pushed the button and it chimed into the system. I apologized for that. I've already had one time when I accidentally hit the button. I finally have gotten used to wearing the wristband. I'm trying to wear that when I want to be careful with the button around my neck. I'm active for an almost 89-year-old and it gets in my way, and I really don't like the thing around my neck. But it’s made my family, especially my son, more comfortable, and even my friends. I highly recommend Medical Alert. I'm also really thankful that it's set up the way it is. It’s a national organization and they have all the information and it's not like just calling local 911.

I wear my Medical Alert around the neck. Sometimes, I don't realize I have it on. I fell one time and by the time I got up, I realized I could get up. I was in my house and getting my first aid stuff out. The firemen were at the door. I ended up I had a splinter in my hand. I could feel it, but I couldn't see it. They removed it. We all laughed about the emergency. And they left.
I charge the device at night. But it doesn't stay, although it stays on the charger while I'm sleeping and not on me. When I pick it up the next morning, it's charged. And I just go along with it. One time, reps called and said that it wasn't charged. But that was silly because I put it on every night. Also, I would like to be able to press my Medical Alert and contact one of my people that got it for me. Because if I press it, it goes immediately to emergency. And it says if this is not an emergency, re-press it. I press it, so they're gone. I can't get my daughter or son.

I wear Medical Alert when I go outside sometimes. It's good.
Reviewed March 9, 2023
The reps explained everything and helped me decide what I wanted. I have the little square box that does everything. It has fall detection, and I can use it in the shower or wherever I go. I accidentally bumped it a couple times. Before I could turn around, there was somebody on there. But I don't like that I have to charge it every day. Otherwise, it talks to me and tells me that I have to charge it. I'd also rather have it a little slimmer. I'm supposed to test it once a month but I can't get it to where I can get to the party that's doing the test because every time I push the button like they said I should, I get the emergency system here. I don't know if I'm doing it wrong. You're supposed to be able to test it and get somebody on the other end that says that it's a test and not a medical emergency.

I was sitting on the sofa and something just pulled me to the side. I thought I was having a stroke. I was wearing my Medical Alert, and then I pressed the button. But one bad thing was they were talking on the phone in the kitchen and I could not hear what they said. I just told them all the time, "Just get ahold of my daughter." I really did not want the ambulance to come. But the cops came and the ambulance with three people. I had my full mind and I could walk. I went with the ambulance, but my daughter could have taken me to the hospital because I was alerted. But I could not hear what they were saying in the other room. It would be nice if I could talk to them on the necklace so that I could hear them talk there.

Until my granddaughter tied it shut, the Medical Alert went off quite often. The little hook on the bracelet would come undone. No special reason. Then I couldn't hook them by myself. So when someone came over, I would have them hook them. My granddaughter finally came up with the idea of hooking it and tying it shut. Also, the material that it's made of, when you work continually causes a slight rash. So I have to use a lotion under it. But they were very prompt with the phone calls when it would go off. I find it okay. It's not a lot of mess getting it on and off. It's easy for me to have that, it's like a string and you can adjust it. When I go to sleep at night, I sometimes take it off and I charge it then. Then I put it back on. Sometimes it goes off by mistake, but that's just a mistake. They redo it right away. I'm by myself and my kids said that when I'm by myself, I really should have a Medical Alert device. That's what I did and I got it last spring. I had the necklace and I didn't like it. I sent the necklace back two weeks ago Monday because I’m not using it. Medical Alert sent me an envelope to send it back in. There was a note on it to call in a little over two weeks to make sure that it had gotten back.
I also had a bracelet. The first bracelet was made of a stretchy material. I lost it. When I called Medical Alert to get it replaced, it turned out they had problems with that one because they sent me another bracelet and I really like it. They fasten on my wrist. medical Alert said since it was the first one I lost, they would not charge me anything for the next one. When I'm here by myself, I have my device on all the time. When I go outside, I do too. I accidentally pushed the button twice and the response was very quick. Medical Alert also wants us to call once a month and check in. If I don't, they call me. I press the button. It tells me, "Wait two seconds. Turn it off.” So, it's okay with me as long as it doesn't get too much with them. I wouldn't do without it. I have to stick it in my bra or I put it in a pocket because it's not very comfortable. In the beginning, everything was fine until I got that second call and they wanted to charge me $10 more if I wanted that watch thing. Then, they wanted to charge me $29 for insurance, which I already had. I said, "No, thank you," and we hung up, but they still charged me on my credit card. The call goes straight to someone that's monitoring the device and they can call the fire department, which is about two blocks down from my house. So, when I get on the floor and I can't get up, I don't have to crawl to get the number for the fire department. They call for me and that's what I like about it. Because now, it's an address that everybody knows. Several times, it went off by itself going, "medical alert, medical alert," and I didn't even touch it. I called the office and they fixed it. That aside, the response team is here in about 15 minutes and they're great. They’ve been out here so many times and they know me.
The other thing is Medical Alert had to be hooked up to the modem or by computer. If I'm in the family room, I have to walk through two halls if I have to get to the bedroom where it is. That is where that box thing is that you can hit cancel on everything. We have the phone through a cable company and all our other phones are just hooked into a wall jack. Everything's okay with it now. Last November, I used it and I was very happy with it. But then, I got a call two months ago, and I'm not really happy with the one that I have now. I had just gotten one a couple of months ago. Someone called me and said, “You need one for a fall.” The last time I had it, I fell and they were here within 20 minutes. He said, “What kind do you have?” I said, “I have a round, black one with a blue center.” He said, “Oh, you won’t need that. You need an oval one.”
The point of it is he said I need one but that's costing me two bucks more. I really don't think this Medical Alert is worth that kind of money. It’s almost 500. I don’t like the device. The last time I had the black one with the blue center, I had one heck of a time sending it back. I called FedEx, but they won't accept it. So, I had to call Medical Alert back. Medical Alert have have always answered if I’ve had to call 911 a couple of times. But it’s got to where I'm afraid to wear this neck thing. Every time I move, it goes off and I have to jump up, run to the phone, and tell them to not send nobody since there's nothing wrong. In fact, I’ve got it laying on my end table right now because I'm afraid I’ll hit it and make it go off. And I don't feel like running to the telephone and explaining to them. I have jumped up $15 a month before the coverage and they didn't tell me it was going up. The device has been sitting here for three-years and I can’t understand why they keep adding to it.
When I called them, the first thing they said was if I wanted it cancelled. I told them that I didn't, I just wanted to know why I was getting a $15 a month charge. They commented that my equipment is insured if something happens to it. But it was insured before. I told them that I didn't want to pay $15 every month and I wanted to pay ever six months after Christmas. They figured it up and said it would be $209 and something every six months. I’m thoroughly disgusted with our plan. For six months, it’s $209 and that's outrageous.

I keep the Medical Alert on my arm and sometimes I hit it and it calls them and lets them know that they'll call me and ask me if I'm alright or if anybody is with me that needs help. The reps are courteous and they just put it in as a false alarm.
The Medical Alert is a good thing if I need help. But I really don't like having to carry the device that goes around my neck with the watch. I just want the watch. The watch itself is good but you have to carry the other piece with it in order for the watch to work. Also, I have to charge the other part every day.

She spent a week on the hospital, 2 weeks in rehab and died at the beginning of June. I called the company to cancel her service. It’s very comfortable and the quality is good. It tells me when it needs to be charged. Sometimes, it tells me right in the middle of the night, so I try to put it in the charger immediately. I have tested the device and that worked fine. You just press a button and the reps come on and I say, "I'm just testing the device." And they say, "Okay. That's fine." They answer me.
I've got questions regarding billing and I'm gonna have to call Medical Alert. I got one bill for $110 and then I got another one for the regular amount, around 20. I've had the whole unit for 12 years, and Medical Alert's customer service has been all right. A couple weeks ago, I mashed my emergency button by mistake, and I had to let them know that it was not an emergency. The people in the office are very friendly and take care of situations if I have any. Everything is right on top, and everybody reports in on time. They were here on time in case I didn't get the alert.
I just got a new fall pendant, and it's very sensitive. When they sent this to me, they did not tell me exactly what to do about it and that's something that needs to be improved. When I took it off and went to bed at night, the alarm went off on its own. They came out here to see me, and I didn't even touch it. It went off two times with me until I finally called in and questioned them about it on the phone. A young lady told me, “Well, you have to put it on something soft.” That's a very important issue, especially when you're 92 years old, and they don't tell you that in the paperwork. They just said, “Put it on your nightstand.” Medical Alert is wonderful, but they should send paperwork that tell you to put your pendant on a soft surface when you take it off, especially when it's for the fall.
