When I call Medical Alert, somebody comes quickly. They're courteous, friendly, very kind and considerate. I’ve fallen several times a year since I've had my device. It's been a godsend to me because when I fall down, I can't get up again. The necklace is more comfortable for me than the bracelet is, so that’s what I wear. It’s a wonderful thing when you live by yourself.

Medical Alert's staff has been really nice. As far as the device, it would be good if the pendant was a little smaller because it's kind of bulky sometimes, and it gets in the way hanging down. I hadn't really had to make contact but one time when I needed another emergency kit to go on my refrigerator. It was really effective because they sent me my new form right away. Overall, I feel safe having my Medical Alert around me knowing that I can use it in my house or out of my house.

I've knocked the device a couple of times by mistake and Medical Alert was very nice when I told them it was a mistake. After I first got the device, they called me to test it, and I tested it. So they told me to tell the guy on the other end that it was just a test. But whoever that was, failed to say it was a test. So all of a sudden, I had two fire trucks here and firemen at my door. We took care of that. But it went through and it worked. It's been a wonderful experience. But sometimes, the device is a pain in the neck because I'm short and it bothers me where it hangs. It gets caught in my underwear or on my bra sometimes. I can pull it up. But it pulls my neck down. Now, I got the device for falling down and I'm not too happy with it. I leaned against the sink and it went off. If I lifted my arms up, they came up too. So that's kind of a pain in the neck. But overall, I feel safer with Medical Alert. Every time I get in the shower, I feel much safer knowing I have it.

My Medical Alert device is very good. It makes you feel a little bit more comfortable when you're by yourself. I had to test it. I started off with the wristband and I was writing my checks and the alarm went off twice. I said, "Well, maybe I ought to have it around my neck instead of on my wrist. I shipped it over to the one. Just recently, they asked me if I would like to have one that alarms if you fall. So, I bought that and we tested it and it works. I've had the Medical Alert button for a couple of years. My husband passed away almost three years ago and I live alone. I'm 86 years old and I have my little doggy, and my concern is if I was to trip on something and fall, at least I know I have security around my neck. Doing housework, you can get your feet tangled up very easily. If I do that, then I have the button. I don't have to worry. I can just let it fall. Taking a bath, I took it off and I laid it down and it fell on the carpet and it went off immediately. So, that gives me more confidence in what I have around my neck. I have peace of mind whether I'm on the road or I'm at home or taking my doggy for a walk. If I see somebody fall and they don't have any way of contacting anybody, I have the button and I can always push that button and I know I get a medical response immediately.

I feel a lot safer with my Medical Alert device. I keep it on all the time I am in my house. But then, when I go to bed, I just hang it on one of my bedposts, and then put it right back on again. I have been wearing it continually. I wear it here too. But in these apartments, they have these emergency chords that you have to pull because they have to know where you are if you're ill and you need to be transported to the hospital, which they did and I was fine. But if I go and I leave Wallingford, I'm going to another state maybe for Easter day. I still will wear my Medical Alert and if I have a problem there, I will push my button. When I was in my house, I felt very safe because, when I pushed the button, somebody would talk to me. When I had a fall last year in my house in August, it was a very bad one and I got the help of a few people then because I was still living at home. Now, I'm not. My house was sold and I'm down at this facility now.

I'm very pleased with my Medical Alert device. The only thing is I tend to like to dress up and with the necklace, I have a black string hanging down when I might be wearing pearls or some very pretty necklace. I would prefer to be on my wrist or for it to be a pin it somewhere else. Another thing is if I wear it in the bra, it’s uncomfortable and I actually did get a pain in my breast. The device rubs my skin and it hurts me as there is a little rough edge there.

Other than that, I have no problem with the device itself. The fall feature is good. Outside, it works. I can take the device with me. If I go to Florida, I just call and take it with me. They change some information. Everybody's fine and they answer nicely. My Medical Alert works. I used to charge it differently, like when I watch television during the day. But they said I should do it at night. I have to go to the bathroom about three times so I put it on, bring it back, and stick it back on the charger. It works fine. The device charges in a couple of hours. It's simple too because the red button's soft, so that’s easy enough.

I broke my ribs and my shoulder, and made my brain bleed. I also broke my bracelet and whoever I talked to at Medical Alert said that in order to get a new one, it was going to be $500 or else I had to take out the insurance for 10 more dollars a month. So, they put an extra $10 on there and it's now 59 a month. I have the fall unit now, too. I have it when I go outside or if I'm going to be doing something in the house where I think I might fall. Every time I had to go to the hospital, I used the device. I had the device when I lived at the Cape. I was going to a hospital. But they went to the wrong place. So I had two ambulances come into the house. That was the only bad thing I had about it. For some reason, they had different addresses when I lived at the Cape. So there was a mistake on their part but I had to pay $250 for both ambulances. When the ambulance came, they took me to the wrong hospital. They took me to South Coast, which I never go to, instead of taking me to the one at the Cape. So I wasn't happy with that either. But Medical Alert was here real fast.

I used to have to take the whole unit with me when I went somewhere and that was a pain in the butt. So now, I just got the one that you don't have to carry every piece. You just carry the one unit and I’m paying less money than what I had before. When I wear it and if I fall down, they know where I am. I'm satisfied with it. I feel safe when I wear it.

Medical Alert has been fine until I got the new thing that had the attachment on for falling. That was the biggest nuisance there was on the earth, and I'm sending it back. It’s too sensitive. And my equipment wasn’t working like it should be. For example, I was putting a t-shirt on last week, didn’t hear anything from the console. The phone rang, and it was the whole toll-free. They had already called my daughters, got them out of class, and nothing happened. And it has been time and time again with that kind of thing. Another time, I was making the bed. Those things, they don’t set it off. But the damn toll-free call, and my family gets the call. It’s ridiculous. I don’t want to do that anymore. I don’t like the situation that I got into with this new one, because it was call, call, call. And my kids' jobs were interfered with.

When I got the package for the medical device, I was not home. My daughter picked it up and did everything for me, but maybe she forgot to tell me what to do.

I have my house, two doggies and three birds, and nobody is around me. I’m safe when I have this on. When I lie down a little and take my nap, I put it on my nightstand. I don’t want to call on that when I sleep and make it do an alert. I tell everybody about Medical Alert. They say, “Oh, this is too expensive.” I say, “Life is not expensive.” When you need help, that is the best you can do, especially when you have a stroke. You cannot talk, but you can punch the button. Leave it released and they know what that means.

She wasn’t too happy with it doing that. So she wanted to check into it to see why it was doing that. But, they’d done something since she talked to them last Friday because they've called me every day or night this week to see if I had fallen.

I was prone to falling and every time I fell, I was always away from the pull cart. I had to crawl to the cart to pull it and get to my phone so, I thought I better get a Medical Alert so I can have it around me. I used the button once in an emergency and having it was a blessing. I had it around my neck and I could touch it and talk to somebody. The reps came and I didn’t have to crawl to my cell phone, which I usually use to call. I can’t wear the button on my neck because I had surgery and braced my neck. The button is on my arm and I like it on my wrist because I can take it anywhere. I go out and walk down the hall and I know it's there. But I try not to fall.

When I call in, the reps are very courteous. I say that I’m just checking and they’ll ask if I’m alright and to call if I need anything. One time, I got stuck in a chair and I had to call Medical Alert. They had to come and get me off the chair. I liked the service and the people. They were very kind and helpful. I don't want to get off of Medical Alert but that's $62 a month and I'm getting older. So I wanna know if there is any way I can do for a price down.

It's a good idea to have the button. I wear it around my neck, and it seems to be a little long, but I'm short. It works okay other than it went off when I dropped the house phone close to it and a couple of times in the past week, when I sat down in the chair. It seems to be real sensitive about picking up things and I understand. I need the device and I'm happy with it. The Medical Alert reps have been very nice to me too.

It's a little bit sensitive and I don't know what's causing it. I was telling my granddaughter about it and she thinks my son had this one done a little stronger because of my age. But then the customer service calls me right away and I'll have to say, “I'm okay.” I’m glad I've got it and I've got it sitting right here next to me because I'm by myself at 89. If I had it to go over, I would go to the wrist. I have seen the bracelet advertised. But with my age right now, I'm just going to keep what I've got because I've got my grandsons to take care of me.

The reps would call right away, and I’d have to say that it wasn’t a real emergency and tell them what happened. Sometimes, the device bugs me around the neck so I wear the wrist one all the time. It took a while to get used to it because I have my wristwatch, the Medical Alert and medical ID all on the same arm. But now, I don't even feel it. Sometimes, we'll go out for an appointment, and I would look down, and I don’t take it off. Because when we go out, I usually lay it on the coffee table or the dinner table. So, I usually put it in my purse or the glove compartment.

So when I got feeling better and got out, I called Medical Alert and complained and they said, "Well, we'll give you two weeks."

While I was gone, my son was in the house when the phone rang one day. Medical Alert sent another thing to wear around my neck. But I don't even know what that does or what it is. When I use the button, I would wear it and the team would call me if I need to charge it or not, and I would let them know. When my button would go off, I would tell them that the device just went off by mistake. They said that I would just hold it down for about two or three minutes and then release it. I did that and it was okay then. Then, if I needed them, I would call them and they would ask me if I'm alright, what's going on, and if they need to send someone out. It wouldn't be that long that they would send someone to help me.

One time, I was using my machine for breathing and my stomach was bothering me. But my elevator wasn't working and I had to go down the steps. It was about five or six of them and they said they could put me in a chair and strap me in, one in the front, one in the back, and they could take me downstairs. As bad as I felt, I could not let them do that as I've had problems with going downstairs. I said no and that my son could help me. They said, "What can your son do that we can't? And there's so many of us and there's only one of him." One of the gentlemen checked me out and asked if I really need to go and I said no.

Another time I went to sit on the side of my daughter's bed. It was an air mattress and it went down and I ended up on the floor and I couldn't get up. They tried to help me up but they couldn't. They asked what to do to help me and so I called the boys. They came and two or three of them lifted me off the floor. Then when I moved in the other apartment, I was asleep and I woke up and I was on the floor with the covers. I called the paramedics to come and get me, and it took three of them, one on each side and one behind me, and then they picked me up.

I was in a bad shape at another time and my blood pressure was up to 225. They told me that they would take me to the hospital and they didn't tell that time how much my blood pressure was. The only reason I found it out was after I got in the emergency room and then the nurses told me what it was. There was another time they had to stay because the hospital was full, had no rooms, and I had to be in the hallway. They did not leave me until the nurses in the emergency room got a bed for me to be in and got the equipment for me to use.

They checked me out in November. They came up first and the ambulance came out right behind them. They asked if I could walk to get on the little car in other room and I said yes and they helped me. When I got on there, they strapped me down. I asked them for something that would cover me up and they gave one. Even if I'm going from my home to a doctor and my insurance provides a ride for them to call, so I call a couple of days early and make the ride.

I feel safe with Medical Alert being there because they know how to carry and take care of me. They have the equipment that they can check with whatever is wrong with me and they run it up. If they see that I need to go to a doctor or to a hospital, they're gonna tell that they can take me, but it's up to me. They're a company that we need with a group of men that can get us out of an accident and the like. I just have one device that I need to send back, but they didn't send me the envelope, they just sent me a seal to put on there.

If it doesn't cover that, too bad. I wasn't charged on this month on my credit card, so apparently, they did take that off. But they were supposed to have credited me for the $11 I paid, which they didn't. I'm honest and I expect everybody else to be honest and when they're not, I’m going to call them on it.

I'm willing to pay $5 a month for the device. However, I have seen it advertised that whatever it is that hangs around your neck, you can speak into. I don't have that with my Medical Alert system, however, this is what I purchased and that's what I'm paying for. But that was the only problem I had. And once a month, I call in and report that it’s working fine. On the first week I had it, I was out my garage working, I had the button on, and I didn't realize that when I picked something up, it set it off. When I came out from the garage, there was EMS at my door and I didn't know why. He chuckled and said it was okay. A lot of people do make that mistake. I told him I was sorry as I was out in the garage and I couldn't speak into the facility here. My family wasn't home either to answer the telephone. But the device was accurate and it did what it was supposed to do.

I called about it and the lady told me to just disregard that and not to worry about it. Then I got a call a couple of days ago about another price. I asked why was it that high and the rep said because that was what I owe them. I asked if that included that $36 on payment and he said yes. So I don't understand why it's so much. I've had Medical Alert for a long time and used the device 2 years ago when I lost balance. The rescue came over and picked me up. I disconnected because I was going to move out of the country but decided not to stay where I was going to go so I came back. I put a plan in the house and saw it was not necessary to have another alarm. The alarm doesn't work anymore so I went back to Medical Alert.

I have the one in my wrist and somebody called and persuaded me to have something else. This other thing that they have now is like a little egg and you hang it in your neck. She said it was gonna cost me $10 more and I was going to have to pay $10 for them to deliver the device to me. I said okay but it was a tragedy because I don't know how to work it. Between that and the one I have in my wrist, I’m having a big problem because every time that I have to move my left arm, I set up the alarm. It's very annoying. I was sitting down, trying to do something, and the telephone rang. They asked, “Do you need help?” But I didn’t touch it. I was sitting and doing something in my hands.

I've had it for a couple of years now. I tried it and I liked it. But now their system will change. So, I had to take a smaller system from them. It was a bigger one before with the red, white and blue machine. And now, they have the little one that if you fall down, it will send an alert. It also tells them wherever you are.

The satellite thing. One time, I was picking it up and moving it from my little table. I put it on my lap, but I held it up too high and I dropped it a bit and it set it off that quick. In the time before that, I forgot what I did, and it went off again. But the first time it did it, it took four minutes for Medical Alert to answer. And it was, "Well, I'm not having a heart attack." Because the machine kept saying, "We're trying to meet your location." And I felt, "Well, the old system they had, they knew where I live."

I'm in a wheelchair so there is always somebody with me. I asked Medical Alert if I could switch it back and they said no. This is the system they have now. But the cost is the same and it has always been a good system. I just got it a month and a half ago. I was just wondering why it took so long. Because when it went off to me, the rep called in monthly to make sure they check it was working. And I did that and it was answered right away.

I've had a couple of times when an ambulance came over the years I've had it. Nobody was here with me and I needed help because I got really sick. They came out here, so that was good. I've used it and it works because the ambulance and the paramedics are usually within less than three miles of my house. They come fast.

My son and my husband wanted me to get a device and that helps, more than anything, when you're alone.

I used my device once. I fell off my walker, landed on the floor, and I was glad that I had that button at the time. I pulled myself from the hallway, where I was, to the front door because I wasn't quite sure if the EMS would get in, but apparently, they have keys. There were four EMS people who came in and they were right on time. I was sitting on the floor and one guy looked down on me and asked, "How are you doing?" I said, "I look kind of stupid sitting on the floor." He said, "No, you're not looking stupid," but I felt stupid because I could not move my legs. I was trying to push my walker because I was coming out of the bedroom toward my couch, and I couldn't make it.

I wore my device like a chain, and every time I went to move, it would click on and then we had a problem. I couldn't even touch it without it coming on. The other person at the other end wanted to know what had happened, where I was located, and this went on for four times. I kept telling them, "Ma'am, I'm sitting in the bus. Ma'am. I'm sitting on the couch. I'm fine. There's nothing wrong with me. Yeah." Medical Alert wasn't working for me. It caused me a lot of problems, and I had it sent back.

As a matter of fact, I was just looking not an hour ago at the last time I checked to make sure it was working, and I hit it accidentally and set it going. That's happened twice in two years, and they've responded quickly. The first time, I was out in my car. When I drove in the driveway, the ambulance was right behind me. ‘Cause I wasn't here, they alerted other people. Apparently, they didn't get them, so they called the ambulance.

I've got the device on my wrist and it's never been off. I run my finger under it every once in a while to make sure it wasn’t out. The only thing I'm concerned about is if it goes off while I'm asleep, if I get tangled up in my covers. But if I did that, it would just be an accident. When my great grandson comes to visit, he tries it out to make sure it works. It says, “Emergency” for about five minutes and then the people call me on the phone and I tell them that it’s my great grandson that does that. It makes me embarrassed because I don't want to tie it up if it's a real emergency for somebody else needing it. But so far, I've been lucky and I haven't used it for myself. I always recommend it to anybody that I thought needed it.

I got along fine with Medical Alert and it has kept me alive. It’s great but I never used it. There was one time that instead of using it, I called my granddaughter and she lives in Hermiston, which is about 150 miles from me. Then, I called the other granddaughter, which is only six miles from me. I told them I was dying so they called their father and the next thing I knew, he was right here in the living room and so was my daughter-in-law. What a time I had. They called the ambulance and I died going to the hospital. I left a deal that if I'm not savable, they should not work on me. I didn't want to have a burden on them. I said that if they could save me and I'm gonna be all right, keep me alive. So, they did. I've lived now three months since that happened and I'm thankful. I should have used Medical Alert and I did not because I didn’t want to have the ambulance come.

Medical Alert costs quite a bit but it's worth it. I would recommend it to anybody because this one now checks me even a long ways from the house. I had to be in the house to have the one I had before work and I couldn't have reached anybody. I fell off of my back porch and I didn't use it because it didn't do me any good. I was too far away from it. But I had it for a long time and now, Medical Alert will get me anywhere I want to go. So, it's all right. People should push that button if they need help and they should not be afraid of it because that's what they need. When I had that terrible problem, I didn't push the button. I wanted to talk to them, which was why, but I knew what was happening.

My son got Medical Alert for me. I've taken over the payments of it. But they were concerned about me living alone, so he applied for it. I hit it once just going by a table, and a voice came on the machine. It was just an accident that I hit it. I just hit the clear button and I got no calls on it. So, it didn't even go through, so it's fine. But the service has been fine. And any of the representatives I've talked to have been polite and helpful.

My understanding is that if I use it, if I call, that the ambulance service has to come. Two of my children live right in town. They would be here quickly. We live in a small town, volunteer EMTs, and fire people. There should be a step between calling for this and an ambulance showing up at your door. The children should be notified first and let them make the decision. And maybe that's a waste of time, but it's a waste of time to call a whole squad here when there's no emergency.

There's a light blinking on the device and it's low power. And the only problem I have with that when the power goes off is the people that Medical Alert is supposed to respond to might get a message from them 24 hours later that something's wrong with me. We know the power was off for five minutes a day ago. And when my children got the message, they didn't respond to it. I talked to someone who said, “Oh, yes. We will connect you. You need to have that machine replaced.” And they said, “Well, we don't replace. When it's only five years old, we don't replace them.” I got nowhere. So, I just don't pay much attention to it. But it just makes the children feel better for me to have it. So, I'm very grateful that I can still live alone and I'm able to be somewhat mobile.

I fell twice and I used my Medical Alert button. Help came within minutes and it was really fast. If you want to live for another day, it's better to have Medical Alert. If you don't have people visiting you on a daily basis that would be aware if you're not answering the door, your chances of dying on the floor would be 100%. Whereas if you had that thing around your neck that you could reach if you had to in an emergency, at least you know somebody is on their way.

I called Medical Alert because I wanted to get the device that I can take in the car with me in case I had a problem. I am too old to learn how to use phones, so I have to take the device with me. Somebody called and said that my account wasn't paid, but it was set up to be paid every year on my Visa card. I live alone and I work in the yard a lot. If I'm in the bath, nobody knows it, so I love having my button on. It gives me much peace of mind at night because even if someone's breaking into my home and cuts the landline, I can always push my button. I'm not worried anymore about sounds or anything I hear. I know that I've got help quicker than a phone call. I always feel good even in the car 'cause wherever I go, it's going with me. If I end up at the end of the road or off the road, I know I can get help. I see it more not so much health but safety.

I tried to get it up where it was suggested that I wear it. But whatever that necklace is made of, it slips down, and I can't get it tightened, so I'm never comfortable with where it is on my body. Then when I was talking to the lady and trying to test it, we ran into trouble, and then she told me that it was my button and to mail it back. They would mail me another one and they would overnight it to me. I mailed mine back, but it took a couple of days before I got it. That was a little aggravating, but nothing I couldn't deal with. Now I help a friend in cleaning buildings and there have been times I've been leaning over a desk, cleaning the bank, or getting a trashcan, and the button goes off. Usually, I hold it, and they know it's not an emergency.

Then I put the garbage in there, took it out to the road, come back in the house, then I got my coffee and I was walking past the front door, and they were out in front of my house. I felt so stupid telling them it was an accident.

Then the second time, I had the wristband on, I rolled over and the wristband hit the TV remote and set it off. I heard the phone that time when they called me but I couldn't hear the machine as I was upstairs. By the time I got my glasses and crawled out of bed to see who it was, they had dispatched somebody by the time I called. They were there within five minutes. I felt kinda stupid at that time, too. Wearing glasses with the thing on your face all the time is irritating. It would have been a lot easier if it had been a wristwatch. The device also flops out between the buttons of my shirt sometimes. When I bend over to pick something up off the floor, it sometimes falls out and I have to tuck it back in. I put up with those.

If it gets bumped, it notifies me that a fall has been detected, then there will be a response and then the response says that they are locating my location. The device is very touchy, but I understand why. But there's so many times like putting laundry in the washer, and I just bend over and that comes down the least little bit and touches the top of the washer, and it will set off. There were times when Tyrus, my little dog, has bumped it, fell on me and made it go off. It's very very sensitive, but I appreciate that if I should fall or something should happen.
