I had trouble paying my bill online so I called in to pay it. Internet was suspended. When calling in again to see when service would be reactivated the answer I received was in the next 24 hours. No service for 24 hours. Does this mean 24 hours of service will get knocked off the bill too because I'm not actively using it till it gets reinstated.

The installation was incomplete. Install dish. It worked for a week. One week later I ordered a booster. It wasn’t working. I called and paid for a technician. It worked for a bit. One week later. The internet failed. No email. Download time was impossible. No streaming. No music. And the second time to add a boost to fix the problem didn’t work either. The system is still not working. I have never had a worse experience.

I had HughesNet installed on June 17th 2019. On July 17 2019 I call and requested to change my data from 20 gigs that I was told that 20 gig plan would work for my family. In July 17 were given our 20 gigs and all my data was gone by July 20 2019. We called and we were told that we used all the data in 3 days. So at that time on July 20th I had requested that my service be upgraded to 100 gig service per month. I have call customer service 6 times now over almost 3 weeks. As today is August 7th 2019 and I was told again today that I needed to be approved by management. Mind you I talked to a customer service manager on July 31st and was told that the 100 gig service would be available in 3 to 5 days. It has been 6 days and I no closer today 8/7 to having internet data. This problem must be solved by Friday 8-9-19 or I will cancel my service.

This has been a terrible experience. When I called to cancel my service, their representative stated if I upgrade I’ll have great service. I won’t have to worry about buffering when streaming online. They were wrong. When I’ve called, several times, I was told I couldn’t cancel service, without paying penalty. I explained they are not giving me the service I am paying for. There are times internet pages won’t even load. Spoke with supervisor and was told the same thing. There’s a penalty of $300. How can a company trap you in a service they don't even provide. Awful service. Awful customer satisfaction!!!

Since day 1 my internet has been extremely slow. I have called and they told me that I am using all my data. I asked how. He said it is called livingroom 1. I told him that I have that and it is always buffering and never showing me anything. He sent a tech out. This poor tech said that he could not understand as he can not get a signal. After 8 hours of trying nothing. So when I called again they said, "Well we will send another tech with more experience" and they said that they were going to credit our account for 3 months for 20.00. I never got the credit and I have called again about that. The more experienced tech still could not get a strong signal. They now keep telling me that someone will call me within 48 hours that was 5 days ago. No one has called. I do not recommend using them as all they do is lie!!!!

Where to begin? I guess the very basis of the company would be a good starting point. By that, I mean their product, internet service. Not even in the ballpark of being an internet solution for anyone who is in need, of even the least bit, of internet connectivity. In today’s technology market I have come to find that anything is better than an internet service provided by satellites. Dial up may be slow, but it is far more reliable than satellite service. The odds are always against you relying on satellite communication for internet. It’s not a matter of “if” it will lose signal, but how often and for how long? And because it is so unreliable, you will find you stop using it and use your phone service instead.
And before you know it you discover that you have been paying for something that isn’t even working due to the satellite moving and losing its ability to work. It only has to move a little bit, a problem I never seem to have with my satellite tv provider.... I honestly don’t understand how easy it is for the internet satellites to lose their communication. So you call the Philippines and talk to someone reading from solution cue cards in broken English who has a very tiny window of helpful solutions. They get you to run the WiFi IP address on your phone to diagnose the problem, and bam it’s the satellite on your roof.
Here is the good part. They offer to send a third party technician out to address the problem for a small fee of $125 on your dime!! How awesome is that??!! And as an added bonus they go on and on about how they are going to waive the bill during the month you are waiting for the technician to come out as a “convenience for you”. So let’s review where we are here. Hopefully you have picked up on what I’m about to write by now, but if you haven’t, here it is....
This company outsources everything!!! They have no representation here in the States except for the first contact you make if that’s even true? I don’t know. Oh and those amazing commercials they spent so much money on. What a load of crap those are!!!! Man what I would give to have the same internet they show and promise on those amazing commercials!! It’s like seeing a Big Mac commercial and then opening the box and sinking in your boot with disappointment. It should be a punishable criminal act to lock someone into a contract with such a poor product. I have an internet service I pay considerably more for that cable providers that provides super slow and extremely unreliable internet that has super unrealistic data caps in our country. Oh wait I’m sorry no data caps just slower than the previously slow when you reach your stupid low data “soft” cap in the first hour of the first day of the new billing cycle. So I tried to barter.
It was brought to my attention that I would have to pay $340 in cancellation fees if I let my anger push me over the top and cancel the service. So I devised a compromise. First take into consideration the monthly charge of $84 I was paying for a service I was not receiving over a considerable amount of time I had Hughesnet and most likely at least the last two if not three months before I tried to use it and found that it wasn’t working at all. How foolish of me trying to use something I am paying for. Then there was the $125 fee for the third party contractor to come and service Hughesnet’s equipment.
After turning red and losing my mind, I explained to the representative, that I had left Viasat for this same exact reason and brought it up several time in the initial call that I was so angry that a company would have the audacity to charge a customer for an equipment failure on their side of service. The response was overwhelmingly over and over “Hughesnet would never do that to a customer” and “would bend over backwards to provide optimal customer service”. For my frustration as a “convenience” they did me a solid and waived the fee. Damn I’m so lucky....
Lastly, I was offered $20 off of my monthly bill for 12 months. So now it will only cost me $64 dollars a month to spin the wheel of fortune and hope to “win” by actually having moderate to low internet service. How freaking lucky am I??? So, they’ll cover the Tech fee, pay a months bill, cut my bill by $20 for 12 months and not cover the time I more than likely didn’t actually have service ie the majority of time. $125+$84+$240+??, let’s just call it $450. The cancellation fee is $340. My solution was for Hughesnet to cancel the service call, send a box with a return label so I could send them their equipment and call it even. No adjustments for them to make and no cancellation fee for me.
They received payment for multiple months without providing me anything that I was willing to just write off for the opportunity to just call it even and part ways. Sounded legitimate to me. But the computer and the emailed response from the “management team” said no deal. Apparently Hughesnet cannot survive without holding me to my contractual agreement. Which I agreed to before I was provided a sub par service I was promised in the commercial. Wow.... I am at a loss for words.
Anyone that is still reading this now; don’t buy into this awful product or the company that is selling it. They are baiting us in with an expensive ** commercial and a false sense of comfort in the initial phone call. Only to be let down for the rest of time you keep their service by nothing but outsourced junk! Hughesnet is a scam!!! I promise your cell phone service provider offers a WiFi hotspot device with more data that’s 100 times faster and extremely cheaper! And if your cell service is not good at home find one that is and switch! You can’t screw it up. You will always come out ahead by not falling into the internet satellite trap! I have no choice but to count the days until I am free of this burden, you still have a chance to choose right!!! Anything but satellite internet is the right choice!!! Good luck!! And get the hell out of here! And I’m spent!

I am well into my second year with Hughes, driven to this because where I live there is no real wired high speed option. The speed has never not once been what they advertise, and over time has gradually gotten slower. Perhaps as they con more people into their services, it impacts the speed to those already on it. On the plus side we have had little to no service interruptions other than for truly nasty storms/weather.

Updated on 08/11/2019: This is a continuation of my issues with HughesNet. First bad customer service! Also, supposed to have 25M download speed. It seems they always say you're getting this, but you can’t even open emails with this lousy internet (my 4G is faster). I also found out that to watch any one hour program on demand with 1080P uses 3-5G of data. Their suggestion is to change your viewing to 480 to use only 2G for an hour program. They don’t seem to care about their customers. I received a follow up call after I wrote a bad review on customer satisfaction, but all they wanted to do was say, "Sorry. I’ll elevate this. Is there anything else?" Really? If they cared they would try to satisfy us, but no such luck.
Original review: I have had a problem with my WIFI for about 3 weeks. I have never used more than 10G in the time I have been with Hughes, but suddenly I used my 10g in less than 2 weeks. I called several times. Was not a modem issue but my use? We agreed to up our plan to 20G to see if that would help, a week later with no changes on my use we had used another 7.5G. I called and we ran the test for 4 hours and a little use was there with nothing on the WIFI! I asked for a new Modem, they agreed to send one in 5-7 business days. I asked they send it overnight, he asked his supervisor and suddenly no new modem. I spoke to the supervisor and asked to have someone other than him call me back the next day, he said he would. Here we are 6 days later still no call and I am a very dissatisfied customer, don’t use Hughes, they don’t care about their customers.

HughesNet is by far the worst ISP I have ever experienced! Their sales department lies about what speeds you’ll actually receive. I’ve literally called them on the day my data cap renewed because my speeds were slow and I was informed that I’ve used all of my allotted 50 gigs of high speed even though everything was turned off and I wasn’t home. This is the epitome of evil corporation!!! I have never encountered a company that is willing to go as far as this one to lie, deceive, and take advantage of its customers with no remorse whatsoever! Terrible customer service. We have tried to suspend our account from Spring to fall and they keep charging our account and they give us a case number but that doesn't exist if we call the following month to try and suspend it again. They will not send a case number by e-mail, only by phone conversation and when you call back that call conversation never existed in their books. Then they put you on hold and never pick up the phone again. Also what they promised us what the internet would deliver is absolutely not true. We were told that we could watch Netflix movies and we can't hardly open a website.

HughesNet is the worst internet provider I have ever dealt with by far!!!! I have no clue how they are still in business. The customer service is just ridiculous and not sure how they are testing the speed but what they say is fine isn't at all. My opinion is they are outright lying to customers. I would highly recommend anyone even thinking about signing up with HughesNet to do whatever necessary to find another internet provider. I have been with them since October and I have had to call every month.
In July I called 9 times and still to no avail is the problem fixed. I am mentally exhausted and downright outraged at their service. It literally could make a person have a mental breakdown. Then to top it they charge an astronomical fee to leave them early and now I know why. If you could just leave they wouldn't have any customers. I read some of the reviews in the beginning and they had to pay those folks to say all those positive things because their service is not nearly as good as those folks replied.

This service provider is the worst one out there! I have had nothing but slow internet since I became a customer. I called back in April to cancel and they said they would upgrade me for one year and lower my bill. The bill was not lowered and I called to speak with an agent and first person I talked to was very very rude! He had an attitude the entire time as I explained I had an email from HughesNet from April with details on what my new bill would be. In this email it was very specific on the price and had everything line by line and as I told him what each line said he said well that's not true! So I then asked if there was a way to forward him the email back to them and he said "no we don't have internet here". HA. No internet at an internet company?
So I asked for a supervisor. As I spoke to the supervisor he finally got the problem fixed but still did not agree that my price is what is should be, so I guess no one believed the email I had right in front of my face! I asked for a refund for the extra money I had been paying and he said "That's going to be a no, because we are doing this going forward and that's your problem on the past bills" even though I had an email stating what the exact bill amount should have been and they messed up! I am very unhappy with this service and will not be staying with them after the contract is up! Do not use this company!

We found a new provider and when we cancelled they told us we wouldn't be billed for July. Well guess what. They charged us for July plus the "free' upgrade for June. Hughesnet is a rip off. Now almost a month later they still have not sent the package to return the power cord and modem which they say they will bill us $300.00 if it isn't returned. Returned where?

We had 2 options in rural Utah, DSL or HughesNet. We subscribed to HughesNet and the service proved horrid. They cap usage and even if you subscribe to the largest cap, you will exceed your cap in a few hours of streaming HD tv. After continuous disruptions of TV, we called and customer service had us disconnect all devices except when we needed to use them and they convinced us to increase our plan to the max. It turns out disconnecting all devices when not in use will extend your service a few minutes before the cap and going from level 2 to top cap level extended our service to cap about 1-2 days. If you must use this service because of limited choices, stick with their lowest plan. On the lowest plan you will exceed cap in a few hours of HD TV. Even on max plan, you will exceed the cap quickly, so you might as well pay less and live with the capped speed and lots of HD TV disruptions for a few more hours.

As soon as you get off of the phone with them, the service goes back to the same old slow, in and out junk internet... AN ABSOLUTE HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE and an even worse company to be in a contract with. 1 technician says, "We will send out a technician and if the service does not improve we will excuse your contract and cancel the service." The last agent I spoke with was at least courteous but only had one suggestion other than the other agents. I tried downloading movies to watch during the day at night. The agent said it would download during the night and I wouldn’t have any interruptions the following day. An hour and a half movie takes me at least 2 hours because of the download every minute. It didn’t work. One month down and 23 months to go. FOR PETE'S SAKE, do something!!!

I purchased HN six months ago. Frequently the speed dropped and made streaming extremely difficult. When I called HN I had to go through the hoops while the very polite and patient agent went through his script. Usually they fixed it or unchanneled it to tech support who usually fixed it. Then bingo down it goes AGAIN. The last three times when I contacted HN, I emphasized this was a repeating problem and still I had to go through their script/procedures. What does it take to get HN to live up to their contract and advertised promises? Presently I am waiting for the tech dept. to call me back, which usually takes two to three days.

Therefore, we switched to CenturyLink when they finally brought higher speed to our neighborhood. Although our reason for cancelling was poor and slow internet service, they would not waive the cancellation fee of $265. If HughesNet is your only choice -- that is a bummer. The only problem I am having is that I cannot send photos as attachments using either text or email using my iPhone, iPad or PC. Called tech support numerous times who could not do anything to fix the issue and informed me to contact Apple. Then after calling Apple support for my iPhone they were able to provide me with a workaround fix since the issue is with HughesNet. The only way I can send pictures is via email and include the photos within the email but not as attachments. So basically I cannot text or email anyone pictures as attachments!
I have never had this issue with any other internet service provider and was very frustrated. But at least I can send them embedded in an email now. Also, if you do get HughesNet satellite service make sure they have your name spelled right when signing up. They kept informing me they would need to send the request to upper management which is ridiculous. I had to call them numerous times until they corrected my name. Then I had to also do it on the phone side so it shows up on caller ID correctly. Sometimes the internet speed is slow to load websites but overall it is great for the rural area where I live. I still wish I could have gone with broadband service instead of satellite since the weather does slow the speed when raining or very cloudy.

We have had numerous Hughesnet techs check our dish positioning and have been assured all is good and we have great signal to satellite. They have told us that Hughesnet is overselling their bandwith and the gateways are clogged. When we call customer service they tell us that the techs need to adjust the positioning of our dish or that weather is obstructing the signal. I can say we also have Dish Network for our TV and it works absolutely fine, so it’s not weather related. If you can get ANY cell phone service at all, you are better off using your cell phone as a hotspot. Hughesnet is even far worse than dial-up, which might be slow but it gets you there eventually. If I could give this company negative stars, I would. From the day I signed up with Hughes Net it has been horrible. Their speed is not fast, their data is minimal and you can never stream anything. Their customer service is the worst I have ever experienced in any industry, even cell phone companies and government entities! Their representatives are incompetent and will give you incorrect information, actually every time you call it is a different story.
This company is the absolute bottom of the barrel. They have a very high penalty to cancel service and do not provide you with a copy of your contract. You have to write to their corporate office to get a copy of the contract for service because otherwise, one would not be available to you. When we moved offices we had no other choice but to use Hughes Net for internet service. I had problems with the speed of our internet after the first week and had to repeatedly call in, physically go to my office on a Sunday with a laptop to have them "test" the speed. This was done several times by several different people who finally conceded there was a problem. I threatened to cancel and magically the speed became faster.
Yesterday, at 3:00 p.m., our internet service magically disappeared. I called their tech support who stated I had to give them an error code otherwise they would "charge" me to come out and repair the problem. I reluctantly had to buy a maintenance program and the tech came out at 6:30 p.m. The repair tech, who is great and not affiliated with Hughes Net as they contract out to a third party, informed me that my satellite dish had been removed from the roof of our building hence the reason for no signal. The tech stated he would have to write out a PSR and inform Hughes Net. The representative, Tim, from Hughes Net told me last night that a tech would be out today to install a new dish after the PSR had been submitted. I called the technical support number this morning and between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. spoke with three different individuals, Jason, Amy and Adam, who all told me different things.
First I was told that it would take 48 hours to get someone out, then Amy told me a tech would be out to by 5:00 p.m. today to install the new dish and to call the third party company for an eta. I called the third party repair company who stated that the information I received was incorrect and that they did not have a work order. I call Hughes Net again and Adam tells me a Hughes Net employee will have to install the new dish but will be at my building by 5:00 p.m. and that the tech will call me in a few hours with an eta.
Not receiving a call, of course, I just got off the phone with the supervisor and manager of the tech support department, after much yelling at them I was informed that I would have to call the corporate number to see when a tech will be sent out. Lovely that none of the incompetent employees could tell me this during the day when I could have called back east. The corporate department was closed when I got off the phone just now.
Turns out, the incompetent people at Hughes Net informed a tenant in my building yesterday to take down the wrong satellite dish off of the roof, which is the reason for my internet being down. He has proof from Hughes Net as to what dish to remove based on the serial number. All of the employees there are highly incompetent and seem to not be able to read, follow notes or even subtract. One representative could not figure out what time is 17:00, because it was military time. She could not subtract 12 from 17 I guess...wow!
This company is an absolute and only last resort for internet access. If you enjoy speaking with incompetent idiots who do not know how to read or subtract and never resolve problems, this is the company for you. Let me not forget about the patronizing and condescending supervisors and managers who offer up hollow apologies with the phrase, "I am sorry this can be frustrating." No, actually, this "is" frustrating. I am sorry you all are so incompetent and cannot do your jobs. Do yourself a favor and find another internet service provider unless you like spending hours on the phone with incompetent idiots who cannot help you and will leave you yearning for cable company customer service.
