I can’t get Netflix to even stream. I’m paying way too much for me and my kids to not be able to use the tv or play a game. When I call the local installer I get transferred to someone who can’t even speak English or understand what I’m trying to say.

You tube videos often do not run smoothly, little rotating circle comes on as the video tries to catch up to speed. I tried downloading the Hughes Net usage meter, to see how we were doing on hard data, from watching Netflix and from youtube videos. The meter did not work. Netflix takes a long time to load, but then does run smoothly, so that is great. Regular online websites take quite a while to load. Sometimes they time out before loading. Our previous internet service was cable, so we know this satellite would be slower than that.

Wifi lags bad. The way it was installed in the kitchen there is no way to put a hardline in. Gaming or using a Ethernet cable is impossible. Actually been looking at other ISP providers with installers that are more friendly and considerate with internet needs. I get that the dish needs to be at a certain spot for signal. However there is no way this is gonna work out. TV can't be used or gaming system.

In my initial phone call with Hughesnet I told my salesman exactly what I needed the service for. He reassured me that this would be a fit for me. He also told me that he was waiving all initial set up and installation costs. Then within one hour of this being installed, I quickly found out this service does NOT work for what I need. They put me through HOURS of "tech support" before determining it didn't work. I also had to fight to get out of my $400 ETF. Then to make matters worse, it took me more fighting to get my money back because they then tried to tell me my initial deposit WAS for set up fees and that was a "valid charge".
The icing on the cake was when they told me it's my responsibility to get their equipment OFF MY ROOF to return to them before they charge ANOTHER fee. And they don't assist with that unless you pay even more money. They have zero care for the customers. They only want money and they will put tons of fees and charges to make sure they get it.

This is the absolute worst internet service that anyone can have. It's worked maybe 4 days since it's been hooked up. This is my first and last month's service with this company. The man, Monty, was awful to talk with to try and resolve my issue then told me if I didn't answer my phone, which I can't due to no internet hence no wifi calling to answer, the person would just walk into my house! I'm very very unhappy with this company and will never recommend them to anyone. And after talking to a few friends that had it in the past they told me they wished they'd known I was considering Hughes.net and they would have told me not to bother. The only redeeming factor in this whole fiasco is they are cancelling my service on Feb 21 and sending me boxes to mail the equipment back and not charging me the early cancellation fee.

Guaranteed (supposedly even done a signal check) that it would work on the far end of my house and it does not. When I call about these service issues they tell me my account is fine. Their end shows it is working and that they will not address the issues without me paying another service fee for a technician to come back out.
My service buffers every 35 seconds. Will not work anywhere but in my kitchen and laundry room. I am so disappointed. I've been a HughesNet customer for almost two years now. I've always paid them on time. I have three months left on my contract. I did not cancel my service. I just wanted to upgrade it. I decided back in December to try out HughesNet Voice as my phone service bundled with my (HughesNet) satellite internet service, which I already had. They scheduled an installer to come out with the new equipment for the phone service on December 23, 2019.
The installer came out, set up my phone, etc. and then went outside. Next thing I know he is installing a bigger dish and disconnecting my old one. He told my husband that the dish we had is inferior and now considered obsolete. HughesNet doesn't use the inferior product anymore. He also said that I could just throw the old dish away. This made me wonder why HughesNet never bothered to replace the old, inferior satellite dish before now, knowing that the dish I was using was inferior and outdated.
To make it clear, HughesNet sent out a bigger satellite dish in order to supply enough signal to run both my computer and the phone. I did not ask them to do this and they did not bother to inform me in advance. The installer disconnected the old, inferior dish at the same time and date he was installing the new, advanced dish. However, when I checked my January bill, I was billed for TWO dishes and charged a "cancel early" fee for three months. The bill came to $140.41 that they took out of my bank account using my debit card without my knowledge or permission. I was totally irate!
I contacted the Better Business Bureau and filed a complaint. Instead of giving me the money back, HughesNet credited my account with -$73.59 and kept the rest. That's where things stand right now. I also found out that I can mail them a certified check when I make a payment rather than let them use my bank card, as it should be for all their customers or at least be able to pay them through PayPal or their website. They have no business having a customer’s bank card and especially since they cannot be trusted with it.

We have had HughesNet for over 2 years and at one year into our contract we moved and they said in order not to pay $400 for moving fee we have to resign a 2 year contract. Well we live in an area where there is not much for options for internet so we had no choice but to resign for 2 years after only 1 year. Well we are at 1 year into our 2 year contract again and since day one the service is NOT AT ALL what they said it would be. They said it would be fast and it has always been slow and could barley use 2 cellphones on it and we had the highest (fastest) plan. And when I say fastest, that is what they said not me because it has never been fast.
Example of how "FAST" our internet was on day 1 of a new month it was impossible to watch Netflix without buffering every 5 seconds or I was the only one home and tried opening a video snap chat and it would not load until I went to my mobile data. We called many times they are always rude and hard to understand. Not only that but they have double charged us multiple months on "accident". Good thing I check my account and noticed it because they wouldn't have refunded it had I not called in every time. All in all the speed of the internet is NOT what they say it is and they are OVERPRICED and overall rude and a horrible company to deal with. We decided to cancel and just go internet-less in an area where we dont even get mobile service. If that doesn't show how horrible they are then I dont know what else will.

I received a postcard in the mail January 25, 2020 about Hughesnet being available in my area. Since I live in a rural area, I was very much interested in what Hughesnet could offer and save me on Internet service. The sales person told me the I could save about $10 a month over my current provider and have much faster speeds. He told me I could stream live tv and even some video games. So I thought why not? They set up installation for the morning of January 31, 2020. The installer showed up at 9:00 am. My husband was home for the install. After everything was done and the installer left, my husband sent me a text message at work telling me the internet was terrible. All the videos on tv were constantly buffering, and the picture would pixelate. I got home after work and got on my laptop to see how thing were there. Again it took several minutes for a video to load even my google had issues.
I called customer service immediately and they sent me to a trouble shooter to see if they could find the issue. So they had us try a few things and told me to wait an hour and call back if nothing improved. Nothing was working so I called again. The next agent again asked me what devices I was using and what was I trying to get to load. Again just the TV and my laptop, trying to stream movies and live tv. She also had us try a few adjustments and said she would call me back in an hour to see if anything improved. Again, no improvement. I then told her that I just want to get rid of it because my husband and myself were tired of fighting with the service and trying to get things to work. She then transferred me to the disconnection dept.
I get there and the agent asked me why I wanted to get disconnected. I informed him that we had just had the service connected that morning at 9 am and here it is at 7 pm and service never worked no matter what we tried. He then insisted that the issue was either with my TV and laptop or the weather. Keep in mind it was indeed a cloudy day and a few flurries in the air. I told him I had a satellite dish before for another service and never had an issue unless there was extreme conditions. He then tells me to wait 24 hours and that if there is no improvement, then they will disconnect. I was getting very frustrated at this point after several calls, troubleshooting and checking everything I just wanted to be done. I told him no. Just disconnect me and I will go back to my old service. He then tried to blame me for having bad equipment and not giving the service some time to start working.
He offered a discount for the amount of time service wasn't working, which was all day since installation. I said no. I had already paid for a month in advance and it never worked. He then tells me that, "No you can not stream live tv or video games." Which is not what the initial salesperson told me. He seemed to doubt what I told him so I said, "Hey you record all these calls, so go back and listen to what the salesperson told me." As for me I just want done. So they are sending me a box to return the equipment. Of course they charged me a disconnection fee of $12 on top of the $79 dollars first month service which I never got use of. I had the service for less than 10 hours and it never was what they claimed. Expensive lesson learned.

I switched to satellite internet because I thought it would be faster but I wish I did not get caught up in this contract.

The guy who did the satellite installation did a great job. He installed where it wouldn't be seen from the front, and did a nice clean job with running the cables into the house. As far as the satellite service goes, it's not great. While speed measurements have been good (20-50 Mbps) files continue to download slowly and any attempts at video streaming have not worked at all. The bandwidth measurement tools used by HughesNet must have an issue because even when I don't log on it measures 300-400 MB per day. That's not possible. With only 20GB per month the limit is hit fast. Too bad this is about the only option I have, being out in the country.
