Never, ever, out of 26 years with USAA have I gone past 24 hours without resolutions. It has been 8 days and my car sits here! I am in a rural town and the nearest place to get the vehicle repaired is 120 miles. USAA is telling me there is a chop shop nearby for a 2017 Toyota with 4k miles on it and all the computer and electronic gadgets. Sent a guy out who took some pics and looking at his estimate it does not even mention the bent frame in the front or numerous wires hanging out. I am extremely disappointed that I have not had an accident in EIGHT years and PAY for the towing and insurance to be called and nickeled and dimed over a tow and where I can take my vehicle! DISGUSTING have this EXTREMELY POOR “customer service” experience! DISGUSTED! 26 year membership and here we are! DISGUSTING!

I am the NOT AT FAULT PARTY called a few minutes ago to claim for property damage. Without being asked any question other than my name, I was told to take the car to the shop. The airbag was deployed for crying out loud! The REP Christine **, with her unpleasant tone didn't even try to help me. My insurance company had to find out that the policyholder has a limit of 5K on her policy for damages. Seems like I will not have any help from the insurance company who is responsible. If it means court let it be. PLEASE DON'T USE THIS INSURANCE COMPANY.

I joined USAA as a young Soldier in 1997 and have used them ever since. Despite a limited number of local branches, the customer service you receive over the phone is first rate. I have had a bank account, multiple homeowners policies, rental policies, and an asset management account with USAA and I have never been disappointing. They have covered three automobile accidents seamlessly and without penalty. They covered roof damage on my home quickly and without hassle. They have never kept me waiting on the line for more than a minute or two, and the folks I have dealt with have always been friendly and fair.
I recently retired from the US Army and became a contractor in Northern VA specializing in residential water loss restoration. As a contractor, I deal with insurance claims on a consistent basis. After dealing with multiple claims, with multiple insurance companies, I can definitely say that USAA takes care of their clients far above and beyond any provider out there. If you are eligible to join I would highly recommend USAA. They have fair prices and, more importantly, they have your back in a crisis.

If you get into an accident with anyone that has USAA and they're at fault you need to hire a lawyer immediately and save yourself a massive headache. They are the biggest liars and disorganized idiots I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with. Someone covered with USAA rear ended our car and totaled it. From beginning to end we were lied to. Our first adjuster we were assigned to didn't even call us. Every attempt to contact him failed as he never responded to his voicemails. Three weeks go by and we get a new adjuster after I had to make almost 80 calls between my personal insurance, USAA, the repair shop, and USAA's third party adjuster company they went with.
USAA would tell me one thing and the rest of those involved would all tell me another thing. We finally got another adjuster who got things rolling again. I then got a call from the CEO's office saying that they would overnight the check to us and we would receive it in the next business day or two. I message the company via Facebook of all things and it was told to me that they had sent the check through regular 'ol USPS and that there was no tracking #. Here we are almost 6 weeks later and we finally got our check in the mail.
All the while they would extend our rental car by a week at the most. And every time it was extended our card was charged $50. A total of $150 was charged before we caught wind of it and froze the account. This whole process was to make us whole but we're still out money because of you shmucks. USAA lied about our repair shop not sending additional pictures, USAA lied about time frames, USAA lied about our rental car deposits, USAA lied about our check. Just do yourself a favor and hire a lawyer. We've learned our lesson.

I am revoking my policy. Customer service is a joke. When I called three days ahead because my bank would get it there on time because of the weekend. Called and I went through password, mayhem. Rep 1 and 2 didn't recognize vehicles I was driving, when my son was born, years of service. etc. If you one minute late with a payment they dock you and then you would have to go through that again... tried to log in to my account and it locked me out. 23 minutes to pay a bill. Note customer reps were just doing their job, but still USAA policies, treatment of customers and claimants. Potential customers may want to think about choosing USAA and how they ride on the back of the Military. You might save a couple dollars though, but they're not the only game in town. Try The General or Progressive...

Terrible service from USAA the past 2 years at least. Rates have been terrible, service worse. Too many complaints to name. Last one is from yesterday after I finally decided to leave them and first place I called gave me a significantly better rate than USAA so I am gone. After I let them know they sent a notice to my account saying they are making me be on pay in full plan due to late payments. Yes, I had a few over past year and that is it. Been a member over 20 years and they do this. Ha. Thanks, but I am leaving you first. Petty, ignorant, incompetent = USAA.

My payment was due July 24th. I called to tell them I was not renewing my policy and was told I owed them $13 because my policy started on July 21 and I called them the 23rd. How are customers suppose to know their policy for payment? Also there was fraud on my credit card I reported to them.

After an accident the first question they asked me when I called in was, "Are you OK?" The first question is about you-"Are you hurt?" The second question is also about you-"Are you in a safe location?" Then we sorted out the detail of the accident. Everything was handled quickly and efficiently. The company truly cares about its customers.

I was rear-ended by a USAA member in the middle of June of 2018. I was pushed into another vehicle, my vehicle is totaled, my body is hurt and I'm having seizures. USAA claims their member was not at fault even though I was hit in the rear by this person going about 20 miles an hour. While sitting still, and pushed into the vehicle in front of me. At the scene of the accident the person at fault who rear-ended me admitted to her fault in the police report. They have been shown the police report but they say that that is not the truth now. So now they are saying that they falsified a police report which is a crime. But that part of the police report was the truth. They did rear-ended me and I was sitting still as it plainly states in the report.
They will not help me, they will not rent me a car, my finances are depleted, I'm losing my furniture, I can't feed my dogs or myself and I'm about to lose my business that I work 25 years for because I can't get to work. I can't take care of my customers. I'm physically hurt and emotionally hurt. If anyone else is interested in helping me please let me know. I am in Georgia and they are violating my State's Unfair Claims Settlement Practice Act. This is just deceptive claims handling. I would like to file a bad-faith action against the insurance company USAA.
The Unfair Claims Settlement Practices Act says not attempting in good faith to effectuate prompt fair and equitable settlement of claims submitted in which liability has become responsibly clear... and refusing to pay claims without conducting a reasonable investigation Georgia follows a fault base system and at-fault driver is liable for any personal injuries and or property damages resulting from the Collision.
These laws are plainly said and I can't understand why these people are going outside the law and taking the Law into their own hands. There must be something we can do as citizens of this country to fight these people. They are violating my State's Unfair claim settlement Practice Act. I personally have never been involved in a class action lawsuit and don't know what to do but I am pretty good at searching through laws. Is there anyone willing to step forward and join me. Let's put USAA in their place, they have to abide by the same laws as everyone else, they're not above the law!

USAA has proven to be a great company. I have been with them over 30 years and would never change. I have had two auto claims in the last 12 years and USAA paid them immediately, without any squabbling. The first was when some vandal keyed my car, an adjuster came out and in 3 days, I had a check in my mailbox. The second time was for hail damage and an adjuster met me at work -- in less than a week, I had a check for the hail damage, minus the deductible. Really quality service! Thanks, USAA!

They assume you should know what they don’t tell you. They never called to say they are paying the claim. They never tell you that you can get the repairs done even before their collision partner gets the check. If I didn’t call I would still not have gotten a call a month later. Yet their notes say that they told me. AWFUL customer service from them and their partners.

USAA sent an email telling me due to the high number of "at-fault" accidents (2 in 2 years) we were being dropped. I have been a member for 21 years. They claim they serve the military but in fact they are NO Different than any other company. One accident a fender bender, was over 2 years ago. I was told I could go to the DMV to have my record corrected. The accident over 2 years ago was on private property and NOTHING filed with the city or state. USAA sucks.

I got into an accident with a USAA claims member. It was eventually determined that the USAA member was at fault for the accident because there was video evidence. After accepting liability for my claim USAA associates offered me a settlement amount for my vehicle in which I accepted. There were some issues that arose with me getting my title for my car, after mailing them my title, the associates at USAA decided to tell me that they had made a mistake with my claim amount and that they were offering me less than the initial agreement. They then proceeded to claim that someone had spoken to me about the new amount and that I had agreed to sell my car to them for way less than I had even paid for the car.
By the time I had to rescind the agreement they had already sent my title off to be changed into their name. I spent over 4 months without a car and they offered me no rental. I am a single mom of 3 children. I rely on my transportation for stable employment, to go from A to B and the way that businesses prey on the less fortunate these days saddens my heart. They offered me way less than what I paid for my car and It wasn't even enough to get another car or fix the repairs. What they did was cover themselves from doing the job they are paid months on months to do. The USAA member's rates definitely went up and the service they gave to what they called (ACCEPTING LIABILITY) was not acceptance but toleration for the accident. These people did whatever they could to misuse the opportunity to restore to me what their paid client has taken away and they deliberately hurt me and my children and left us without.
I hope another person reads this and hears me clear, these aren't the kind of people worth doing business with. This company earned 30.02 billion dollars last year. A used car for a single mom and her children would not have hurt your pockets. A fair outcome to an unfortunate accident would have cost you just a few thousands and your associates tried their best to low ball me. You're a disgraceful business. This kind of business practice is absolutely disgusting. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ that your intentions towards others fall back on all who practice this kind of business.

I've been with USAA according to their records, 25 yrs as of January 2018. Not true. It's actually longer than that, but whatever. Just like they don't show I have a bank account with them that is very much active. But, up until a divorce, a loss of job and income going from two-person income to just mine due to the divorce, my rates did not increase and I had NO issues with them. I praised to every one about USAA! I recommended them to many others who are former military who didn't know about them. But, after the financial situation I was thrown into due to the divorce and so forth I have experienced SEVERAL rate increases with USAA (not even related to driving record) that have left me unable to afford their premiums of $2500 "FOR JUST 6 MONTHS" for two ADULT drivers over 25 years of age.
I spoke with a USAA rep today in fact that told me my premiums have increased because 1) they asked the state of Texas for an increase in premiums for all TEXAS drivers because of THE LOSSES "THEY" (USAA) COULD SUFFER IN THE FUTURE"! Nobody knows what the "FUTURE" holds and I think it is incredibly ridiculous an increase of rates is approved for "future" losses that "COULD BE" sustained. I feel they are raking Texas drivers over the coals just because they are headquartered in Texas. I'm also angry that rates increase through financial hardships not controlled by its members. I've had to be late on payments but paid them. I received a cancellation notice but it wasn't cancelled. Didn't matter. STILL warranted a rate increase.
If I am struggling to pay premiums after going from having my ex husband's income to having just my own ($40K to $25K) how do they figure I can pay higher premiums? There is NO compassion! There is NO understanding or desire to help those in need. I've had "1" accident (May 12, 2017) since 2006 and I paid $20 a month to have that accident forgiven. I've also not had a single ticket in many years! Auto insurance is "required" in Texas and Texas auto insurance rates are some of the highest in the country for the very reason the state gets kickbacks from these companies such as USAA to give the b.s. rate increases. I was a "THIRD GENERATION" USAA member. I expected more integrity than this.

I agree with the recent low ratings for USAA and the poor reviews. I've been a member for 45 years. It was great in the beginning, but now they are too big, too impersonal. They have lost their customer first policy. You have to weed your way through a computer network to get answers and finally get someone who does not handle the problem. The right hand no longer knows what the left hand is doing. They are all about greed and growing the company. They never use to advertise. Now they buy expensive ads on NFL games with players disrespecting our nation's flag.
As a retired military officer, they previously only served officers, retired officers, and their families. As they try to rapidly expand the company, it seems like they insurance anyone. No wonder our USAA insurance rates are skyrocketing - NFL advertising and insuring risky clients. On my most recent claim, all they are doing is stonewalling. They are not listening to what I want to do. It seems like it is their way or the highway. Yes, it is time to look for my auto insurance elsewhere!

One of the worst insurance companies I have ever dealt with. They 100% do not try to work with someone who has been hit by one of their insured. I was backed into and had my car totaled out. The price they came up with won't even come close to replacing my vehicle. They compared my vehicle to ones not even close to mine with comparison... I was left without a car 2 jobs and they only would allow me to keep their rental for 3 days! The check wasn't issued for over another week! USAA you are horrible and do not even try to help the one who was innocent but back the ones who hit you 100%!

I have had this company since I got my first car, 43 years ago. I have always been satisfied with them. They seem to have all the insurance options on ads I see on TV. I have never had an issue with this company in the 43 years I have used them. They seem to be fair, and complete their work promptly, easy to contact and take their work seriously. Agents are available by phone 24/7. Their policy has all the bells and whistles I need, like "good driver discount", discount for taking a defensive driver training course, deduction options, rental car options, and replacement value options.

My car was hit from back on June 16, 2018 by USAA member. When I called them to claim for them to fix my car they made a claim and gave me a number but never did any communication with me for 2 weeks to tell me status. I called back as I had been driving for 2 weeks without any back bumper thanks to their driver. At that point, I called them, they told me they are trying to get police report. I personally went to police station, got the report and forwarded to them and then they changed the status that because the story of police is conflicting with our member so we can't help until we resolve this. It has been 30 days and still I haven't heard anything back from them. One of their agent clearly told me that "I recommend you fixing your car with your own insurance" because she probably knew that USAA will never fix my car. MOST IRRESPONSIBLE AUTO INSURANCE COMPANY I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH.

It seems the common thread these reviews is they take care of their "own" but not the rest of the human beings that happen to live in America and often are military families. I was rear ended while stopped waiting for the truck in front of me to turn. The speed limit was 50mph, and the USAA driver (thru her parents) was found to be a distracted driver who never looked up to even try to slow down or stop. That was June 13th. Despite immediate proof of fault, I had to get my own rental. 4 days later, I did receive a request to leave a voicemail with the rental info, as they decided to take over my rental. I was also told that if I was "sick of waiting for their help and reached out to my own insurance company to deal with the situation, 'they would be out'."
Of course I have been using my own insurance company for advocacy and help. That does not make USAA less responsible. My insurance company had to smooth that over with them. I have heard nothing from them since, until this week. They do not care about my injuries, ambulance ride, or how I am doing now. Tuesday night at 6:30, the night before a holiday, I received a call with a total loss offer for my vehicle. Despite my assumption that my car had frame damage and would not be repairable, I was never told. I went over the details about how they came to their total, and realized that they left off many options. They also asked me where my car was.
I tried to get an understanding of how they inspected my car but did not know where it was. I obviously had no idea once it was picked up from the tow yard. During this conversation, I was informed that I needed to send my title, so that I could receive a check, and that the rental was being canceled as of Monday the 9th. I reminded "total loss" person that she was going to check into the value of the options she did not have listed. She said she would get back to me. Attempts at trying to be proactive with having another car lined up were pointless, as dealerships were not open on the 4th.
On Thursday, my insurance company, Progressive, called them again, with me on the phone to attempt to resolve. We were asked to prove the options my car has, as they did not have any pictures from their person of my fog lights, back up camera, navigation, etc. Now, they will not correctly assess my vehicle until I prove the options that my car has, that I no longer have, that USAA has already evaluated. This does not make any kind of sense. Trying to help, my insurance company is having someone go take pictures of all the options they did not list or confirm so that I can get the appropriate amount for my car. My insurance also reminded them of rental that should not be canceled since they have not given accurate value.
We were told that it is right in the contract, that I have 3 business days from the date an offer is made, to make arrangements and return the vehicle. Despite my rep reminding them that I do not have a contract that says anything, because I am not a USAA member, and I do not have a check to replace my car, I am stuck. They said, "It does not matter, it's 3 days." I am still dealing with medical problems and I cannot even imagine how badly they will attempt to further rake me over the coals with that. I DID NOT HIT THEIR CLIENT. Their client was a negligent driver who could have ended my life, and her own, because she was not paying attention. My car took care of me. She trashed my car, that I just paid off months ago.
After being hit, while completely stopped, at 50 +, I was pushed into the truck in front of me, and ended up across the road into the side of a tractor trailer that was parked off the road. I am unclear about why I am being treated as though I have done something wrong. Thank goodness my insurance company has been so supportive and helpful, but they are hitting brick walls with USAA as well.
USAA - You are using the people who really do defend our country and ALL the people in it, to make yourselves look American and wholesome and like you have some appreciation for this country and the people who live in it. You are just using this campaign that you have sunk your teeth into, to make yourselves bigger and richer. What you really do is mistreat and scam people who do not deserve it. There are many of us who have been hustled by them. I really think we should come together and start a class action suit, whatever it takes. Here is my story: Their member was at fault, and because of her my car was not drivable. I use the car for Lyft and my brother uses it for Uber. We couldn't afford to be without a car so I called their customer service for advice (it was a Saturday and the adjusters were out). Their customer service told me to rent a car and if they take liability they will reimburse me (word for word... they were that specific). So I rented a car within an hour after the accident (May 19).
I call on Monday and the adjuster told he will get in touch with me when he gets a hold of their member... that's understandable, no arguing there. A couple of days go by and I did not get a call. I call back and hear the same thing. Ok, but the rental is costing me money I soon will not be able to afford, so I asked if they would cover a rental if I get it through Lyft because it's a lot cheaper. They hit me with the “It is our protocol to only pay for a rental when the car is being repaired”. So the arguing started, but we didn't get anywhere.
The adjuster eventually admitted that he would rent a car if he was in my shoes, but that's about it. Fast forward a couple of weeks and I still didn't get a call from them (June the 5th), so I called them. I get told that they took liability on May the 25th, and after negotiations, they decided they will reimburse me for the rental from the 25th til the car is repaired, if the car is not safely drivable. So they sent a field inspector on the 8th and he declared it to be in fact not safely drivable. They even got it towed to a body shop.
Now by the 20th, the car is finally drivable again. Now I am left with the whole rental reimbursement situation. I submitted a detailed receipt so that they can calculate what they are supposed to pay. It's the 30th now and it is still ongoing. I called them and all I get told is that it is in the review department, and every time I call, the reason it is still under investigation changes. All they have been doing is putting it off and coming up with all kind of irrelevant talks, trying to dissuade me from pursuing reimbursement.
I spoke to a manager and he told me they will call me sometime mid-next week. Go figure... I couldn't lay the full rental amount and the rest of the payment is due mid-next week, which he knew. Definitely a USAA move to out it all off until then, if they even complete "the investigation" by them. If course, I will still have to wait for the check to arrive which will make me late anyway, but at least I would know it is all coming to an end after all.

I am beside myself trying to figure out why these guys represent the military and the good people that volunteer to put their lives on the line. After the 20/20 or was it a 60 minutes episode about how they resold vehicles that were flooded I refused to believe they were that unethical until now. I have been working on getting reimbursed for an accident my daughter was in over 2 months ago. She was rear ended at 40 mph and is lucky she didn't get killed or have serious injury, but the 2008 Saturn Vue was totaled. An insurance company is suppose to give you enough to replace the same vehicle. Ours was in perfect condition and the least expensive one I could find is $6,500 plus tax title and license around another $600.00.
They offered $5,400 and we fought to get more. They came up to $5,500. Now I finally accepted it because I need a vehicle but now it's been 3 1/2 weeks, I sent them the title as requested and now no one has called to pick up vehicle or set anything up. I am so beside myself and would suggest anyone who has to deal with them to get a lawyer and get whatever you can to make up for all the people they have short sided and deceived. All I ever wanted was them to give me enough to replace the car. They didn't even have to pay medical bills. They are a disgrace to the military.

June 23, 2018. I am making a formal complaint about a claim I have with USAA Auto Insurance Company. Background. On May 23, 2018, my car (2008 Ford Mustang), was struck in Jacksonville, FL. The driver of the other vehicle was charged with running a red light and was insured by USAA. No charges were made against me. USAA was notified by both parties on that day and USAA reported to that they would handle the claim. Since that phone call, I have tried contacting USAA several times and left several messages, and they have not returned my calls. They have neither sent a claim adjuster to review the damages nor have they made an offer to repair the damages. My out of pocket costs for the repairs will be $9,200 when the repairs are completed. I have been without a car for over a month. Recommendation. USAA should not be allowed to sell insurance in the State of Florida.
Updated on 07/15/2018: After reporting USAA to the Better Business Bureau on June 24, I received an email from the Office of the CEO at USAA (on the evening of June 26) requesting my USAA claim number. That information was emailed on the morning of June 27. Since that time, I have been contacted by several people at USAA (by voice messenger). I returned their calls shortly after I receiving them, but none of my voices messages were returned to discuss my claim.
On July 6, I was requested to resend the estimated cost of repairs and photographs of the damages, which on did on July 6. Seven weeks after the accident, my repairs were completed on July 12, and I paid the repair shop (which is on USAA’s approved list of approved repair shops) $9,259. On July 13, USAA’s Total Lost and Salvage Claims Division notified me that the value of my car was worth only $5,639 and they would be willing to pay that amount if I gave them title of the Mustang.
In Summary It took USAA over 7 weeks to notify me what portion of the damages they were willing to pay. I waited nearly 3 weeks before I started the repair work, and the Mustang was in the garage for nearly 5 weeks for repairs. After over 7 weeks since the accident, USAA finally prepared an estimate, as to what they were willing to pay for the collision. During that 50 day period, USAA neither made an offer for a car rental nor to offer compensation for the inconvenience of not having the use of a car for 50 days. Recommendation. USAA should not be allowed to sell insurance in the state of Florida. (I am a veteran.)

USAA raised our Auto Insurance premiums and we haven't been at fault for the recent accidents on our car. State Farm insurance paid for the one accident which the other driver was at fault. The second accident listed was a FedEx Ground driver who backed his truck into our parked car in our driveway. I tried to resolve this issue with USAA, but after speaking with at least 5 different agents and a Manager, no one at USAA was willing to take responsibility to fix the incorrect rate increase. I finally had to send in a protest to the Maryland Insurance Commissioner. USAA has terrible customer service.

Beware! Verify in writing the total loss payoff amount that goes to the lien holder. I had a total loss. I am low income and was treated horribly by USAA. They were shady. My ex-husband was an upper level officer. I have many years of working with the court system and am very honest. First I was investigated like a criminal, that due to "financial hardship" there could be foul play. I was blocked out of conversations. It drag on for four months. My attorney was afraid I would pay him then USAA would settle and I would be out of pocket.
I had a lienholder. I agreed to the written amount due I received from the lienholder, approximately 10,000. USAA told me that we were all in agreement so I sent in the Power of Attorney. As soon as they got it, I received a notice of "24 hour guarantee" from the lien holder for 13,000, about three thousand more than I had ever been billed for. USAA instantly made out a check to the lien holder. I told them I had no notice of an increase of payoff to the lien holder. My attorney is somewhat shocked. It seems unrecoverable.

My spectacularly awful experience with Total Loss dept. communities.usaa.com. If you have USAA, pray that you never need them to pay for damages to your vehicle. If you need them to pay, just get a lawyer now. They will try to avoid paying you, they will stretch everything out, they will do shady stuff, no one will be able to answer your questions, and they will blame you for all of it. This is why.
01FEB18- I was rear ended by a 17 year old driving alone under a permit. 02FEB18- I report the accident to USAA early in the morning. I got rear at night and then had to take my passenger home. End of March/beginning of April- The driver have gave Progressive as her insurance and they took until this point to tell me that there was supposedly no coverage available at this time. They won't even tell me why. 11APR18- I get my vehicle appraised and am advised that it may be a total loss. 13APR18- I get a call from another appraiser asking where my vehicle is housed. Apparently, they had an imminent appointment with me, one that neither they nor USAA told/asked me about, and they needed to know where my vehicle was housed. We managed to get it looked at later that same day. Photos were even taken of the inside of my clearly visible camper shell.
16MAY18- The truck is a total loss, I am assigned an adjuster. Nothing further is needed from me at this time. 21MAY18- I get a message telling me to call Total Loss. 22-24MAY18- I get several estimates, several of which include my camper shell as a "deluxe cap". 25MAY18- I am told that my camper shell needs its own evaluation. I am asked for receipts, which I give. 30MAY18- I receive an estimate including the adjustment for the camper shell. It is about as much as it was before they decided it required further attention so I ask why that is and how a 3000 dollar shell that I've had for less than a year depreciated to 500 dollars so rapidly. Also, how did they decide how much it was worth before they had receipts and brand names and what not? The question is asked of the file manager, whose name I have. He sends it to legal to see if USAA has to cover the camper shell at all.
31MAY18- A co-worker of my adjuster calls (I had never actually heard from my adjuster and no one ever seemed to be able to find her) who asks for info on my camper. Later I call and end up asking if settling the truck will jeopardize my ability to get paid for the camper shell that is on the truck when they figure all that out. I am told to wait it out. The agent finds out that I am still driving the truck, which is something I have told anyone who asked about where the truck was, and then asks someone else about it and says they may have to lower their estimates. Really? Apparently, I can't ask "legal" which is where she says my file is, about settling the truck while they figure things out, and am just told that "legal" has a quick turnaround. She then tries to blame me for things going wrong.
I call later to get a number to someone who can answer my question and I can't. Apparently, "legal" is not a department, I cannot have the name of my claims manager, and nobody will answer my questions. 01JUN18- The guy who sent my file to legal calls, and clearly has no information at all. I get some numbers from him, including the ones for the guy over him and the total loss manager. He says that if the shell was a "camper shell" that it would be covered. Since it is a "camper sleeper" it may not be. I built the bed that is in it with my own two hands. It is attached to my vehicle just like a "camper shell" is, it has no bathroom and no kitchen. It is a shell. That, and they have photos of the inside of the camper shell and have this entire time.
05JUN18- I get a call from a guy on the advocacy team who is determined to believe, despite my attempts to correct him, that the problem is simply that "legal" is taking too long. By now USAA has taken too long but that isn't the problem. Nothing useful comes of this conversation. 06JUN18- I call and am told that "legal" had gotten my file the previous afternoon. It went to legal sometime around the file manager sending it, but then it was taken by the advocacy team in response to my forum posts. They took the entire file, not a copy, and wasted even more time. I am then told that I can't even settle on the undisputed value of the truck because they are still messing with the camper shell.
07JUN18- I get a call from the Total Loss manager. I'd left him a message the day before. He is unable to give any useful information so I ask about how they valued my camper shell back when they had it on the estimate and were willing to pay for it. Although he seemed hesitant to acknowledge that they were going to pay for it and had acknowledged that it was a shell before the 25th, he did say that they send CCC information about the camper, such as type. I ask what they sent them if they didn't have a receipt or a brand prior to the 25th. He said photos. Not only couldn't he really answer the question about valuation, he tried to blame me. I send some phone numbers to a lawyer and he leaves a message.
08JUN18- I get a call from my claims adjuster (first time I have ever heard from her) who tells me that they won't cover the camper shell. She then tries to rush me to Total Loss and settlement. I ask about the valuation process, and she is also unable to give an answer (no one in this entire thing has been able to tell me why they are walking back their decision to cover it in the first place). I tell her that my lawyer called. She names him (first and last name) before I do. She says she'll call him.
Considering how shady they've been (attempting to avoid having to talk to my lawyer, despite knowing he left a message), the mess I've put up with, the walking back on their commitments, their stretching things out further than they needed to be, and the having their people blame me for their incompetence, I'm not exactly holding my breath. Update: I received a call from that guy on the advocacy team who did absolutely nothing. He wanted to circle back to me and I guess say things that just wasted more of my time. The guy had absolutely nothing to say except to note that he had seen my last update and that he knew I had an attorney. Whatever.
My attorney called and, from what he said, it sounds like my adjuster is being shady again. Apparently it wouldn't have mattered if it was considered a truck cap, it still would be considered property, rather than part of the vehicle. Considering that I have at around 13 offers that include my truck shell, that is simply not the case. Also considering that her boss said that if my shell was a "camper shell" then it would be considered part of the vehicle but because it may be a "camper sleeper" it may need its own coverage, what she said definitely isn't true.
Considering that my adjuster herself said that if it was one of those things where the top of the camper sits level with the bed in your truck and then pops up when you want it to (a pop up camper?). I'm going to conclude that she, and rest, just don't want to honor their commitment. I am very glad that I downloaded all of the documents, offers, and photos that prove that they could see the shell, knew what it was, valued it in some way they refused to explain, and included it in my official offer. Good luck trying to lie through that.

I am not sure what is going on with their company now but, I have decided to leave their company because of the bad experience I've had within the past year. I have been paying my car insurance in full for the last few years. Every time the renewal come up my car insurance goes up. I have never had a ticket and never been in an accident. I called USAA and the reason I was giving is the state I reside has a lot of claims for customers with accidents and tickets, so they raised everyone insurance due to this issue. I never heard such nonsense. Then the customer service agent tells me we can review my insurance and maybe raise my deductibles or change some of my options to lower my insurance.
I read a lot of reviews here that state USAA is a 5-star company so, not true. Maybe 10 years ago but, now they have poor customer support for veterans and military. Property insurance is horrible as well. My roof was damaged from the hurricane that came through Georgia in 2017. I contacted USAA and they sent an adjuster out to inspect my roof not the damage that was in the inside of my home. I contacted USAA to find out if there will be an adjuster to come out to check the water damage on my ceilings. The customer service agent in the claims department tell me that the adjuster said I only have $300 dollars’ worth of damage which was not true and told USAA that they recommend I put a trap on my home. I have been with this company since I was a private in the Army and now retired. I was truly upset so I decided to get an experience roofing and home inspector to check my home.
They took photos of the roof, attic and the ceiling. The damaged was over $1200 dollars. I contacted USSA sent all the information from the company and was told they will need their adjuster with the company to see the damages. That tell me USAA do not trust their customers nor do they care about helping their customers in their time of need. I got the damage fix but, USAA never reimburse me. I was told because their adjuster did not do the inspection they cannot assist me with a refund. No paying customer with long business with USAA should have to deal with such unprofessional and uncaring issues. I have sent a lot of my friends to USAA and they have experienced issues as well. So disappointed.

You first have to try to communicate online which is fruitless because no matter how you ask the question the computer cannot answer it. So eventually the computer offers some phone numbers to call. If you call these numbers you get computers with menus. The computers are set up to make it as hard as possible to get a human.
Finally, you get put on hold because all the representatives are on another line. Then someone finally answers it is obvious they are stressed out because all they want to do is transfer you elsewhere. I made a payment on the website 4 days ago and while the money has left the bank it does not show up crediting my USAA account. I was happy to finally insure with them, and I was told if I added another product (home insurance, credit card, investment) I would receive an immediate 10% discount on auto insurance. So I got the visa card. No discount. So I called them, where is the discount?
1st lie: "I'm sorry Mr. **. that you were misinformed about that discount. You will receive it but only when the policy renews in 6 months." They informed me that the company wants to be sure I intend to keep the card, and that I didn't get the card just so I could get the discount. I thought that makes sense, and will receive the discount on renewal of my auto policy in 6 months.
2nd lie: 6 month renewal. Premium rose 13%. DOSE YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY RAISE YOUR RATE 13% ON RENEWAL. There was NO discount for getting the visa card. Called again. I was on the phone for a VERY LONG TIME while they were (probably trying to figure out how to get out of their 1st lie). I was then informed that discount IS NOT AVAILABLE IN California. They also had it towed to some lot about 30 miles away instead of doing it onsite at the Ford dealer. Then they had to tow it back. Took about 3 weeks to fix and used parts were used. The repair shop had to keep calling them to get approvals on all the add-ons the estimator missed like a bent roof frame and other things like broken windshields, etc. Overall the only complaint I have is not really their fault. The insurance company refused to insure my husband but continued to insure me at the same rate. Odd behavior as usually insurance companies don't just drop one member of the family. Had to fight that one.

It’s very easy to complete the information for claims, however the past few years it’s becoming more difficult to have follow through on their end. Instead of one claim rep, I’m increasingly confused communicating with 4. Communication is poor. August 2017 after I totalled my car, the process was simple and easy to complete the claims, get my rental, and check quickly. However in trying to communicate with reps I got thrown around a few people and ignored. I never knew whose word to take. They communicate with a chat email bot on website which records everything.

Their insured caused a rear collision accident involving multiple vehicles, including mine, and was ticketed by police at the scene. Claims Dept. refuses to use genuine parts to restore my car to previous condition. I am expected to pay out of pocket for genuine parts that will be warrantied. Using after-market parts will diminish the value of my vehicle upon trade-in. USAA states that ALL insurance companies do this. Well, that does not make it right. My car was not damaged prior to being struck by their insured and it is reasonable to expect that it would be repaired to restore it to previous condition with genuine parts - not after-market junk parts. The part damaged was original. Shame on USAA for not choosing to do the right thing. I guess saving a few dollars on every claim adds up and they make decisions based on what is good for them. Greed. Plain and simple.

USAA customer service isn't... it is indifferent, inept, unskilled, innocently or intentionally. I've searched the web and read other reviews of USAA beginning with the BBB site. Go to BBB and read for yourselves; amazingly uniform complaints. BBB Face page shows [25] Positive Reviews [4] Neutral Reviews, [300] Negative Reviews, [329] Total Customer Reviews; [1,460] Total Customer Complaints. Frankly, my voice will be merely one from the chorus - USAA touts service but it's all talk, [TV ads] & no action. I'd summarize their service or lack thereof as "institutional indifference" combined with a lack of familiarity with the truth mixed together with incompetence, untrue, deceptive statements and practices seemingly designed to mislead or delay either intentionally or innocently.
Like the 10 or so other reviews on the first 3 pages of the BBB site, I'm canceling my insurance and finding a more ethical and competent insurer. Are there any? While other insurance companies may stab you in the back, USAA stabs you in the front while saying how wonderful their service is…: better the devil you know (than the devil you don’t) (saying) it is better to deal with somebody/something bad, difficult, etc. [other insurance companies] that is familiar [or expected] than to perhaps have to deal with somebody/something worse [USAA] I have no claim issues. I'm not a disgruntled insured. I'm a simple customer with a simple problem that USAA has botched so badly. USAA's picture should be next to the Urban Dictionary definition of FUBAR.

Our family has been in 3 different accidents, 1 with a deer and 2 with other drivers that were responsible for the crashes. In every incident the USAA agents were caring, professional, and helpful. When we had hit a deer going 70 mph, at 7:30 in the evening in 2007, we pulled over and called USAA and told the agent what had happened - his first question was "Is everyone ok?" We limped the car back to home and had it fixed within a week, USAA paid everything but the deductible. In the 2 cases where other drivers were responsible, USAA stated that if the other drivers' insurance companies wouldn't pay for damages, we would not be responsible for the damages. We didn't have to worry about coming up with the funding to repair our vehicles at any time. Again USAA has been a great insurance company to deal with. When filing a claim, I took photos on my phone then called USAA. After sending the photos I was asked to take my car to a repair shop. It was very easy and I could have had the repairs done from the photo assessment. But I was given the name of their preferred repair shop which did a more detailed assessment/estimate. I did have the repairs done at the preferred shop but that was my choice. My only concern with USAA was they did not send out an appraiser. This was my first accident so I am not sure how that is suppose to work. Other than that, never had any problems with them. I cannot expect any more from an insurance company.

I don’t even know where to begin on how bad USAA is on their claim handling practices. A little background. I am a retired Claim Manager from a National Major Insurance Company. I had a major staff of claim representatives I was responsible for overseeing. I always instructed our staff to treat people how they wanted to be treated. Not overpay but pay fairly and never to lie. After retiring our son who was a Green Beret and is now a Border Patrol agent and is also an appointed Sheriff suggested we were now eligible to join the USAA as a retired military service member. We switched to USAA.
April last year we are headed home from a play and four of us are rear ended by another USAA insured due to high traffic and blinding sunlight. No problem, the other driver admits fault immediately. When rear ended I was in the front passenger seat talking to my wife at an angle and the shock made my hands slam into the dashboard. At the time I had just had a case of vertigo resolved by a chiropractor who I was referred to by a neurologist MD who said he would cure the vertigo. He cured it. The next day we have the accident and I immediately go back into vertigo.
My family made me get back in the car as I was so dizzy. Also, at the time I was wearing a heart monitor which recorded me going back into vertigo. Brought up by the cardiologist office that had just done my heart ablation. She questioned if I had experienced vertigo what she saw on the monitor results. The hitting of the dashboard caused pain in both my thumbs. I still can’t touch my palm with my right thumb over a year after the accident with pain every day when I move the thumb. Why I have not the thumb taken care of yet after shots and all. Doctors unwilling to deal with auto accident cases. YEP! Charges go up astronomical if you are treated for an auto accident. We were in shock how much higher. Our back doctor would not treat me as an auto accident and it was too expensive for them to get involved. Medicare gets involved on any payments and we said we did not want them to have to pay when not our fault.
USAA contacted all passengers involved but me. They have not talked to me ever, in over one year, and I had the worse injuries. Lower left back, vertigo, and inability to close my right thumb. The auto claim adjuster lied saying a police report had been filed and that our injuries were not significant. He later admitted that he had no defense to the lie. We filed a delayed police report as no police were involved in investigating the accident. They showed up after information was exchanged and told us to leave as the traffic was so bad.
They did admit liability and took care of my wife and her car. The primary adjuster; after submitting our bills took over two months to say that the USAA driver only had 15k coverage. He knew I had 30k plus medical bills two months prior. They refused to pay the 100 dollars out of pocket I paid for an Xray of my right thumb. They made my wife try and find out billing codes. They would not do their job on calling and finding out billing codes They would not give my wife the billing codes. Frustrated, we settled that portion of the claim. Now he says you need to file an underinsured motorist claim. Still no one talks to me. Wife is talking to them on what we need to do.
We submit all medical bills and reports. I had surgery on my left thumb which was in pain due to bone on bone in the thumb. Agree not their fault, That cost 31k and it was aggravated enough that I required surgery to stop the pain. That is the amount I will look at if I have to have surgery on the right thumb. So, we send in everything and certified mail to know they received everything. Two months later I have my wife call to find out why no response with a settlement offer. They copied everything and did not copy my signature on the reverse side of the medical authorization. Yet, they sent a letter saying they were reviewing all to make an offer. How when they never have asked me my status to evaluate my claim? No request to send another copy of the signature. So yesterday, after calling, we mail the copy they say they are lacking. They just did not copy the back side of the form when copying the records into their system.
Now how long before they respond. I am not optimistic they will be fair when they have never talked to me. I fully expect a fight for any settlement over the way they have handled everything. We cancelled out coverage and moved back to Farmers. USAA has created more stress in a bad situation with poor treatment of a prior service member. I will only give them credit for one thing now and that is, their trip cancellation travel insurance is a low rate. No experience on their claim handling experience on the travel policies. We await to see if we are going to have to sue them before this is all over. I told my wife, I would have fired claim reps that handled claims like they have handled ours. They have no clue as to the back and thumb pain I go through every night as they never have talked to me.
I had already booked a fishing trip to Wyoming and New Zeland before the accident. I was in total pain trying to flyfish catching big fish in Wyoming. A orthopedic surgeon on the fishing trip saw what I went through. Couldn't even tie my boots without help. How will they be able to make a fair offer when they have never talked to me or don't know about what I have been going through. My wife has been having to drive me and suffered on what I have not been able to do as a result of the accident. I would never insure with them again. Son still with them, but he has not had a claim yet.

When filing a claim, they are transparent. An unlicensed uninsured person hit my car. It was a 2001 Acura TL in great condition. USAA totaled it, paid me for it and gave it back to me because of a scratch that the tow company had put on the hood. They also paid the hospital and paid me for my pain and suffering. I paid my portion and the repair shop did business directly for the rest. No snags, no shady moves. Straightforward. USAA never dropped the ball. They coordinated with the repair shop to pay their part. Done!
But there are other aspects of USAA that I've had problems with. For instance, they have allowed other companies to have my contact data and send me junk mail several times, in spite of the fact that for over 35 years I've always denied them permission to do that, and denied them permission to mail anything. They also have a problem with gender bias - when my husband came onto my policies, they started treating him as if he were the primary. I had come to Jesus discussion about that.

I ask you - - - how can a Thule Complete Crossroads Railing Rack be considered neither personal property, nor part of the vehicle? One would think it has to be one or the other. Well apparently it can be declared neither – nonexistent – if USAA says so. USAA used to be a good company to deal with. That has changed in the last several years and I have seen an increasing number of complaints from others. Now I am the one having to complain. On August 31, 2017 my 2005 Honda Pilot was stolen with nearly $8,000 worth of camping and kayaking gear inside. There was a rack with accessories on top for carrying my kayaks. I also had a hitch for towing and carried in the car the ball mounts with balls, etc.
A vehicle claim was made for the Honda Pilot and a property claim for the items inside. Rather bizarrely the people handling the property claim allowed the roof rack accessories but said the Thule Complete Crossroads Railing Rack was part of the vehicle and therefore they would not include that. Then the people handling the vehicle claim said it was not part of the vehicle because it was a personal preference item. Property Claims says it was part of the vehicle and Vehicle Claims says it was not part of the vehicle. How can that be???
They are just trying to find any little thing they can deny. New, the Thule Complete Crossroads Railing Rack is $349.95 and the depreciated value is even less. I can't believe they are haggling over this little amount. They are doing the same thing with the interchangeable hitch ball system, magnetic trailer alignment kit, hitch ball mount, and receiver lock (a combined total of $95.93 for new items).

The app has access to online chat staff if you have questions about your auto policy, renters insurance, credit card account, loan services, etc. I’m a 22 year old female who recently took full financial responsibility for my car insurance and I now have my own profile branching off of my dad’s main plan. And as a new owner of auto insurance the staff and customer support are very friendly and helpful when answering questions and explaining details.
I got into a very minor accident. I was nervous that I would be confused and do something wrong while filing the claim, paying the deductible or any other logistical steps. The USAA customer service gentleman was very helpful in explaining everything and being patient while I asked questions. Everything is fine and my rate has not been increased.
However, I did have some problems with gaining online access to my USAA account, since it said “online access cannot be granted at this time” and I called the troubleshooting number. The woman wasn’t foreign and she asked plenty of security questions. It turns out that I wasn’t able to register for online access because I needed to “confirm I am a legal US citizen”. I thought that was really weird because USAA is for members and families of the US military, so I would HAVE to be a citizen to have a membership. We sent copies of the bill of sale showing the vehicle no longer belonged to any family member. The death certificate was acceptable documentation to cancel the renters insurance but not the auto policy. Why???
Yet somehow USAA sees no problem with calling my husband 3-5 times a week during his work hours to try and sell him financial planning services. Like any of us want a relationship with a company that has done nothing but hassle us over car insurance for the dead. Best as I could tell when my 1st renewal date came up they added another surcharge. And the same thing with my third renewal.
So in 18 months my 6 month premium went from a little over $600/six months to almost $1100. I called customer service and the lady I spoke with confused and totally uninformed and didn't see a problem with my premium almost doubling in 18 months with no tickets or accidents and same two vehicles. Now, I'm not working, no compensation and had to demand for someone to look at the car damage. I also lawyered up because, there is no way I am dealing with this by myself. The worst part is my husband is in Korea and it's just me and my children.
If you're a military family, you know how it is to be on your own and have to deal with all the difficulties of being a military wife. I'm completely shocked. It's crazy that they would treat people this way. He also stated that the party at fault did make a statement the HE DID HIT ME FROM THE BACK. Now, that fault party will realize that his insurance will go up because, his insurance didn't settle with me and I had to hire a lawyer. Can you imagine being in this situation. Both parties will pay the price but, the insurance remains as if nothing happened. That's what this company represents, themselves, not you or even if your military status. It's just all about the money. How embarrassing that they are using the military to do this. We are also going to look to a different bank. This is a BIG WAKE UP CALL.

USAA actually started blocking with a popup my account access in our joint account. The solution was to remove my wife from our joint account. The preferred partner auto repair sent the estimate and pictures. The adjuster, who never looked at the car changed it from uninsured motorist coverage to collision. This means the deductible is double and they won't cover a rental car.
I called USAA to find out why it was changed. I was told the auto shop told them it was a collision. The auto shop said they never spoke to anyone at USAA. They only sent over estimate and pictures. We asked to have the claim reopened. They have been rude and unresponsive. I am extremely disappointed with the way we have been treated by USAA. After reading several reviews I see a pattern of USAA not wanting to pay uninsured motorist claims. My guess would be because they have to pay out more. I am definitely taking my business elsewhere. My husband had an accident when a car pulled in front of him and slammed on their brakes leaving him with no choice but to rear end the other car. Once again we had no problems and they took care of everything. The next accident was a freak accident that was expensive. Once again they were amazing and made sure everyone was okay.
I was was worried they were ready to drop us after the 3rd accident. They did not to my surprise and our policy only went up a tad bit but understandably so. All 3 times they spent time talking to us to make sure we were all okay and was there anything they could do for us. I have recommended USAA to my family and clients throughout the years and everyone is happy them. I have had a few times throughout the years due to medical issues I had to postpone my payments to them. Once again they worked with my family to make sure we were okay.
I am thankful they have kept us as customers even with so many claims. We do keep up with defensive driving and the drug and alcohol course to help with the cost of our premiums. On March 2nd auto claim has been started with USAA. The driver who has USAA auto insurance was driving while intoxicated (alcohol) and hit my vehicle. Claim and repairs were smooth, however ran into an issue with rental. I received a call from the shop on March 21st that the vehicle repair was finished and to pick up the vehicle. But an hour later I receive a call that the shop was closing early due to severe snowstorm and was informed that I can pick up the vehicle the next day on 22nd. I had an 1 day out of state business trip and called USAA on 22nd requesting a 1 day extension, guaranteeing the return of rental on 23rd. The representative puts me on hold for about 5 minutes, and returns to CONFIRM the extension.
Today, March 23rd, I returned the rental, and Enterprise stated that USAA did not update the extension and once it is updated, I can get my deposit back. So out of concern I called USAA within 5 minute of returning the rental and the first representative stated that they will have it updated and should be fine. Few hours later, while I was at home, I receive a call from Enterprise stating that the extension was denied by USAA and would charge me from my deposit.
So I quickly called USAA to see what was happening, and the gentleman/representative told me something I have never heard before. That a voicemail was left to claim adjuster/supervisor and day after was reviewed and denied. And I stated that, I was not informed of this process and was given a confirmation on 22nd approx. 2:35pm. The guy kept stating "unfortunately, blah blah" instead of hearing my concern and issue and would not help me out or even attempt to review who confirmed it to me on 22nd, or offered any resolution/options.
Requested to speak with a supervisor and was told would take 24-48 hour, so would have to wait till next week Monday/Tuesday. 15 minute later, I called USAA around 7:25, waited 4 minute for a representative, and while trying to explain the situation as calmly as possible, she hangs up on me. So I called back only to realize they close at 7:30, and figured she hung up so she can leave, and not deal with my complaint. Extremely unprofessional, and deceitful. And as a victim of a drunk driver, the insurance made the situation even more of a hassle. Enterprise charged me 28$ for the 1 day that was supposed to be extended. Not a big amount, but the principle of this issue is what bothers me the most. How can you give someone a confirmation that it would be ok and was approved, and the day of, tell me something completely new. Glad I don't have USAA ever since I got out of Army.

In the year I have NEVER once received a phone call from USAA to check if I was okay, did I have any medical bills, lost work, or if my repairs are complete.
I mentioned diminished value because even with my car not being fully repaired, so far it’s totaling in excess of $12k and additional repairs needed are estimated at $3k, and apparently I’ve only lost $1k in value on a car that was 3 weeks old. I’ve kept records for every associate I’ve spoken with at USAA, and the countless promises of, I’ll call you back, let me check on that. We had borrowed a friend's pull behind trailer for personal use and were returning the trailer. On the way back upon returning the trailer tire exploded, throwing the trailer off balance causing it to become uncontrollable and to break away from the vehicle. The only thing that kept the trailer from flipping and go into traffic behind us was one chain. My husband was able to get the trailer under control and pull to the side of the road. After sitting on the side of the road on 85S with a two year old for three hours and walking around the vehicle and trailer to assess damage while avoiding oncoming traffic, I was told USAA would not cover my friend's trailer damage and I would have to contact a towing company myself. I purchased USAA insurance in 2013 with minimal claims submitted and was told prior to purchasing USAA Auto Insurance any legal trailer pulled by my USAA insured vehicle would be covered by my insurance.
USAA even advertises on their website that "USAA travel trailer insurance insures trailers if they are towed by vehicles covered by your policy and are for personal use only." The next available business day, USAA contacted me and said they would cover my friend's trailer only if we could provide proof we did not own it and my friend could prove he did not have insurance on it. We provided my friend's contact information and he provided them with the information that he had insurance on the trailer. USAA has now stated: "the owner of the trailers insurance policy is primary. Therefore, USAA would not cover any fees or storage associated to the loss unless the primary insurance cannot cover the loss."
I do not understand how it is the responsibility of my friend to take full responsibility for trailer when my insurance assured me they would cover any trailer I was pulling prior to purchasing the insurance, but now would only cover what isn't covered or only cover damages inflicted to someone had there been a wreck. I ensure my military family members and friends who are government employees and who have family members with USAA are aware of their policies and how they do not release all disclosures when making a sale.

Auto Injury Claim Handling - Awful, Inefficient, and Insensitive - Mistaken information provided about AIS vs USAA division of duties/responsibilities. Generated EoRs/Adjustment/Info Only forms are confusing in their intent. These AIS forms are often sent with extraneous details and add'l blank pages - of no interest to a claimant. Plus, the forms are difficult to digest - given their format/structure. AIS should send an acknowledgment of a mailing received. Further, the first EOR should indicate a date that the mailing was received (vs processed).
AIS must not quality-check submitted records in piecemeal. For example, outright reject of submitted materials for one reason. Then, once this problem is corrected, reject for another condition - that could have been identified as part of the first review. Some rejects are purely esoteric and miniscule and should not hold back on the processing of bonafide claim materials. All rejections are not communicated to claimant. Ex: Missing SOAP notes for two days of treatment caused the rejection of numerous days of treatment where SOAP notes were provided. We were not apprised of this condition until we called to inquire. The mass mailing of back EORs from USAA or AIS are basically thrown together in a large package in no order and with no cover letter.

I log onto my account and made sure I had my automatic withdraw set up and confirmed it was. Then I proceeded to fix the mess and they are charging me two almost three times the amount I need to pay! I told them I am not paying the amount until things are figured out. No one should be randomly charged three times their designated amount and not be notified of the change.

Summer of 2017 I was hit by one of their insured drivers who ran a red light in Seattle. She admitted fault and USAA said they would take responsibility. As of February 2018 I still have not received a check for my settlement. Numerous calls to them of no answers (one hour hold times usually messages to call back later or leave a message for call back,) of course no callbacks. When I do get a callback it is always around 5 am when I am still asleep. After sending them the title for my car they promised to send me a check for $3,600 which I agreed too. A month later they called at the usual 5 am time stating they had found a different value for my car and had a new "fair" amount. Whatever that is. Still no check, now no car, and no title since I gave it to their wrecking company in Tukwila. I am going to file a complaint with the Washington State Insurance Commissioner's office. Their customer service is a deceptive, and I dare say a borderline scam operation.

USAA is good on service. The service was quick and easy and the car was repaired well. But their rates are higher than average. Each year my rate would jump a lot. When I asked why (since I had no claims or tickets) USAA said they did not have an answer - that's just the way it is. I believe they take the overcharge and invest it for their benefit and pay the insured a little back each year. One year in CA after the Oakland fire, they just dropped all homeowners insurance in CA. I had to find another insurer for my house that wasn't even close to the fire.
It is a mutual company and charges higher rates. Some of the money is put into a fund for the insured person. USAA pays a little back out of this fund each year, but you cannot get the balance until you drop coverage with USAA. It is like a forced investment fund that probably pays very low interest. USAA does not let you know that are doing this. Personally I would rather choose my investments and just pay for auto insurance. They used to take only military officers but now take just about anyone.

First they took my rental away after they deemed it a total loss, took them a month to send a check to the bank, then they nickeled and dimed me to death on my vehicle, I had two quotes from Chevrolet dealers on the value of my truck and the window sticker. Failed to add options that were on the truck. So I am out of pocket several thousand dollars.
Keep in mind accident not my fault. I have over 5000.00 in medical bills that they keep telling me to file with my insurance (health), I feel so disrespected and so much for looking out for your vets. Meaning, if you take any cash advance which incurred 28% interest or more, you cannot pay this advance off individually, you must pay off the entire credit card. So, if you have 600 dollars in cash advance and a 4000 credit bill, you will continue paying 28% or whatever your rate is on the 600 advance, your standard interest rate on purchases and your payments will go towards the credit purchase first. Today I looked at my account and seen where USAA had written a check on my behalf and without my knowledge for $300.00. It is truly painful to report that I, a member of USAA for over 42 years, cannot recommend this company to new potential members. Initially this company did a fine job being only concerned with auto and personal insurance for active and retired military members, but now they have bloated themselves into a company only concerned with profits ('anybody' remotely connected with military service, MF, investments, etc.). The 'customer service' reps consistently patronize you, assuming familiarity and a casualness only appropriate to a bar server. I have been forced to interact with their auto 'reps' 3 times in 13 years, and each time they have the gall to speak to me as if we are 'family,' as per their insulting ads. One female, upon dealing with her to report an accident, preferred to ask me about the football team at the college I was attending.
I called once to complain to a supervisor about being hung up on by a PC, thin skinned male, and after my complaint she had the gall to ask if I wanted property insurance?! Their webpage is tailored solely to pitch marketing lackey info, and not make it easy for members to get the info they need. It is impossible to get a human being on the phone without being forced to hear their inefficient pre-recorded messages, which ALWAYS have sales pitches, and take at least 6 minutes of my life. Their automated system forces you to input information they ask you for once you get one of their lackeys, wasting more customers' time.
They are Very Defensive if I tell them to stop assuming familiarity. The Only Reason I have not dumped them is because "better the devil you know than the one you don't." Finally, their ads are misleading; they do not provide statistical details on those members who are not satisfied with their 'service.' That data would show a clear pattern of member abuse. Do Not Give Them your business - you and they are anything but 'family.'

They refused to accept a letter from the dealer (who stated outright they were ripping us off) stating the excellent condition. When my husband spoke to one of the adjusters, her comment (after offering us another $50) was that it had scratches on it. Of course it did - it was totaled!
Shortly thereafter, we had an adjuster out after hail & high winds - he totaled our roof. Unfortunately, his written estimate didn't include the sheathing or the required plastic sheeting. My husband called & was told to send them a detailed invoice when we chose a roofer. (Because we own our home, there was no bank involved & a partial payment was issued to us.) When we finally received a broken down invoice, USAA decided they needed pictures. Naturally, this was after the roof was completed. After 26 years as a USAA member, I had my first total loss car accident. In July, 2017 I was in an accident caused by the other driver who, it turned out, had no insurance so my USAA uninsured driver coverage kicked in. My 2016 vehicle was declared a total loss and I was given a settlement amount which was more than $2000.00 less than any comparable car I could find. So I worked for 5 months with USAA to resolve this difference. In the end, I found some appalling issues in their processes. After the third week, I put my concerns in writing. After 5 months, USAA declined to respond to any of my primary concerns in writing. While they did adjust my valuation somewhat, it was not enough to allow me to find a comparable car to mine, but my bigger issue was the problems I discovered which range from errors, to what appears to be fraudulent inspection data for their comparable cars.
Worse is that this is how they treat military families who should be worried about their military obligations (deployments, constant moves, family priorities, etc) instead of being mistreated by their "ever caring" insurance company. USAA knows these issues affect every automobile claim where comparable vehicles are used, but is willing to allow these practices to continue. The issues I found include: Nonexistent inspections for most comp cars. The vehicles are identified online, no inspection (or Carfax report) is done to verify vehicle condition, history, accident reports, commercial use, etc. All vehicles are assumed to be in excellent condition.
All 4 of the 4 vehicles that were inspected on my comp report listed inspection dates that occurred approximately 2 to 7 weeks AFTER the vehicle was sold and off the lot (I am sure you are asking the same question I did... How can the vehicle be inspected by the qualified agent AFTER it left the lot because it was sold to a new owner?). Assuming the vehicles were actually inspected on the dealer's lot when it was available, at least 2 of these vehicles would not have qualified as valid comps because they were not available within a reasonable time of my loss.
My vehicle, being newer and not being a common vehicle, was hard to find. So I found every one I could within 200 miles of my area. I found seven, but they declined six of these for various reasons and said they added the seventh to my valuation (but the amount they offered me didn't change???). Another three of my comps were available with a shipping fee (that I knew I would have to pay) to get to the dealership in my area. USAA declined those comps because they were out of the area. However, when USAA presented me with my final comp valuation, 5 months later, all 3 of the cars they used were located out of state and were not available for a delivery fee to my area.
Nevermind that: None of these 3 vehicles were inspected. Hurricanes Irma and Harvey had occurred in the meantime (and flood vehicles were showing up in the market in all areas of the country, so verification of the condition of these vehicles was essential). USAA would not explain why they could use out of state comps and I could not. The age of these vehicles were 5 months older than mine and valuations were not adjusted to account for the age difference and mileage difference.
USAA knows that most people have to accept their value and move on. They can't: Take the time to determine why they are getting so much less than they should get, or wait longer to replace their vehicle. Go without a vehicle during this process, especially if they don't have interim rental car coverage as part of their claim. Risk spending $600-1200 on arbitration/fees to be awarded $1600-2000 while waiting for the process to be resolved. Hire any reputable lawyer to fight for them because the value difference isn't worth the legal costs (not to mention USAA would immediately exercise the arbitration clause and cost them that amount too). So... USAA, the company who claims to care about us as members for life, is the worst when it comes to helping members with a reasonable claim process.

Even though USAA "promises" 24-response to message center, USAA has been completely nonresponsive and has not denied that they are guilty of censorship.
After 14 yrs of paying USAA premiums/salaries, I've learned that USAA does not actually care at all about member satisfaction, loyalty, or rights. Low-velocity accident one month ago in which I was not at fault. It took 10 days for USAA to even approve initial repairs, only by email/phone, which should not require 10 days. It took 3 weeks for USAA to even come out to see my car, only so that they could quickly declare total loss and plug in specs for total loss settlement. USAA does not care that the only reason that I was even still driving my car was because waiting for shop free loaner car, naively trying to save USAA rental car costs (hit/run that had not yet been repaired because DC police failed to pursue for months).
USAA's total loss dept (Duane ** and Elizabeth **) have been nothing but cold, callous, and completely devoid of any empathy or sympathy for loss/grief inflicted on long-term member. Duane ** would only rapidly send settlement pdfs. Even after USAA told me it was actually questioning their initial/abrupt total loss decision, Manager **'s email was nothing but impersonal and, adding much insult to injury, unabashedly conveyed price breakdown of how much $ USAA would recover from other insurance companies, conveying absolutely no concern for my having to prematurely replace car that I loved. No guidance regarding timeline, process, options (aside from one rapidly generated pdf about USAA offering $1500 less to me if I were to keep/repair my car).
The entire total loss dept needs to experience death of a loved one who could have been saved, if not but for long-term insurance company interested only in saving its own time/money, that shows up at the funeral lacking the common courtesy to convey condolences and only rubbing in mourner's face how they plan to get their own $. USAA total loss dept managers/employees do not deserve to be called human beings. USAA advocacy resolutions dept has also conveyed lack of concern, and basically calling right before close of business on 2 days, even though I've called at least 5 times. (Auto, Homeowners, and several other) When we divorced the ex took the insurance benefits with her and USAA refused to allow me to get an auto policy! I was only eligible for banking! This would not be so bad if USAA would acknowledge I was the insured driver! Since the Ex Wife was legally blind since 2009 and couldn’t drive if she wanted to! So now when I go to insure the vehicle with another company I get hit with outrageous costs because I now am considered to have been uninsured for the past 10+ years! USAA did not report to whatever systems insurance companies check to see if you had coverage!
Now I pay double for state minimum through Progressive and have to pay 6 months in advance! Because I’m considered a high risk! When I paid USAA with my disability money I had full coverage for about half what I have to now pay Progressive! USAA is only out for themselves and could care less about the customer (excuse me MEMBER). Just after my divorce I received a check for my camper that was totaled during the September 2017 Hurricane and when I used the app to mobile deposit it (This was a Progressive check through USAA) they put it in the old Joint account where the ex wife had access to it!
Not good they blamed me for the error but after several calls a day they finally said my account was less than 30 days old and not eligible for a mobile deposit yet! So the app just put it in any account that was eligible (the check was in my name only!) and they sat on the deposit for 10 days making me sweat because the ex could grab it the second it clears! I didn’t sleep right till I saw it was clear and I could move it into an account that the ex didn’t have access to! USAA just didn’t care that if I lost that money I would wind up homeless! With nothing! But a small disability check to find a place to live! USAA is such an uncaring company now with unwritten rules and policies that most employees don’t know about!
Don’t keep all of your money in this bank! I just remembered that they had a person call me about a comment or review I gave them while I was driving through a bad snow storm. I told the woman it was a bad time to talk. The storm was getting bad and I had to focus on the highway! But she didn’t care and kept pushing to answer some questions I hung up and blocked the number! Real smart USAA keep asking a member questions when they are in a dangerous situation driving. It’s not legal or safe. What a way for an insurance company to operate! If I was in an accident because of that call (it was hands free but due to the storm still dangerous) who would be at fault? Not USAA!

I have been with USAA for 20 years. The claims department are normally pretty good. Both issues I have had with them in the past were related to third party interactions, but USAA does not step up to take accountability for the business who it partners with to provide services to their policy holders. USAA also does not step up to rectify issues created due to incorrect information given by USAA reps. The first time I had an issue with USAA, an independent claims adjuster who worked out of the Ford Dealer's collision department in Chula Vista, CA decided to devalue my claim after becoming upset with me. Perhaps I shouldn't have made it known to him that I was aware he had forgotten my car was there for 5 business days and lying about that was transparent. I mention this here because it delayed the completion of the work, and my car was not returned for 39 days. This meant the last 9 days of my rental went uncovered.
The USAA adjuster I had been assigned to did not inform me that the 30 day rental policy had a hard stop on it, and I assumed that I would be able to keep the rental, paid by my policy, until otherwise notified. When I found out about this, USAA said the rental rider was offered through USAA by a third party and they had no authority to extend benefit as a result. They then also refused to compensate me at all. When my vehicle was returned, I took it directly to a mechanic who I should have taken it to initially. My engine was still covered in fluids, had never been cleaned, and still had a transmission system leak. USAA did reimburse me for that work with the second mechanic, but provided no assistance (or even sympathy) for my experience with the collision center at Ford in Chula Vista or the resulting costs of my rental I incurred as a result of their poor service.
My second issue again involves the rental rider. My car was totaled a year later and it took only a few days for the collision center (not Ford) to determine that. When USAA claims informed me of the decision, I took a few days before deciding what I wanted to do regarding buying a new car, or buying back the salvage. The claims adjuster at USAA failed to inform me that rental coverage ended a set number of days after she provided me with the decision to total. I again, came out of pocket on the rental. Other than that, USAA has always been so great. If a person is qualified to join USAA, I say do it. The insurance is unbeatable. Even when I have shopped around for other policies, the reps say I should stick with what I've got. Best value I can find and usually excellent service.
