My nephew recently had a claim with a USAA customer while driving my mom's van. The accident happened in MO and he lives in AR. The accident, on 12/30/19, totaled my moms van. As of today, mo one has helped my mother with this claim. She obtained a police report and when she finally got to speak with the "adjuster", the lady told her "We don't go by the police report to determine fault. We take a statement from both parties." Well her insured did not report the accident and has not returned her calls. I understand the need to discuss with her client but they have to have some common sense in this. I have just never seen anything like it. If my mom had physical damage coverage on her van, we would have gone through her insurance company. We are stuck between a rock and a hard place. I would not even give USAA 1 star if it did not make me. They are the most awful company I have ever heard of. No compassion, rude, just awful.

Everyone might have a different experience depending on whom they will get on the phone. I am sharing my personal experience. I had to make four calls to claims department to resolve my problem. I explained my situation to four different reps, and they advised me to take certain steps which did not lead to resolving my problem, since the steps were wrong. I waited and waited, and nothing has happened. Then I made a fifth call to find out that all I have been doing was wrong. I decided not to bore anyone with the details of my car accident.

After 10 years of being a loyal customer, 2020 will be the year I find a new bank. I recently experienced an accident with my credit card which resulted in a substantial fee. Not fully understanding the issue, I called customer support to review options - especially how to prevent similar occurrences from happening moving forward. While doing so, I was told that as a courtesy, USAA would waive the fee. I was further told that I needed to await the fee to post and to call back to then resolve the matter. Upon posting, I called a few days later and a different representative had an entirely different story and was firm that the fee would not be waived. I rebutted their hostile response with my reasoning based on that I was explicitly told conflicting information. I was then met with suspicion, as if I were trying to game some sort of system.
I was very put off by this and challenged this associate to initiate a formal complaint which involved pulling the last call to verify that I was given "bad information." I was told this case would be elevated and I would be reached out to directly by some artificially important sounding executive resolution team. Four entire business days later - not a peep. I called again to firmly ask for the status of the situation, and was given a totally bureaucratic runaround that the case was was being reviewed by someone else, and this person will send an email to that person, and they will personally ask their manager to contact their manager to request a status update - blah blah blah. I was literally told that my case has gone through multiple levels of escalation yet not a single person I spoke with has shown any interest in resolving the issue or could assure what to expect next.
Again, this is a simple case of being told a fee would be waived and has instead turned into an outrageous carnival game that USAA is seemingly incapable of stopping. I could only relate my experience to the worst-of-the worse past dealings with local state DMV offices. The antiquated, archaic, and rife with red-tape practices and complete absence of accountability has significantly diminished my impression of USAA, and I am no longer willing to be a part of their circus. I've always been an advocate for USAA and I'm deeply troubled that this elementary issue has seemingly stumped the best of their best as associate after associate has been crumbled to a simple customer service issue. I can't trust an organization that folds this quickly with anything of importance.

I've been a USAA member for approx. 30 years. I have always paid my bills on time. My ex-wife filed bankruptcy and I was a NON-filer. USAA bankruptcy refuses to provide ANY details of a joint auto loan except to my ex-wife's bankruptcy attorney. The vehicle was awarded to her in divorce. I am the person who ended up with USAA having derogatory credit through nothing I could affect. I am beyond frustrated and believe this is beyond ridiculous as they will not annotate this fact on my credit report. I am done with this company. I am a retired military officer and 100% disabled veteran and am disgusted by the treatment received after having many loans through the years with this company. I tried to resolve the issue and can't even get amounts owed or anything else with the loan due to my ex-wife's bankruptcy.

I have been a USAA member since shortly after my active duty days from 1992 to 2000 and planned to be a member for life. I have always received wonderful service from USAA throughout the years. This is the main reason why I always chose to stay with USAA when I have been continual reminded that USAA products are not the cheapest. It was always the great service that swayed me from ever leaving. Therefore, I have been utterly dumbfounded recently during the process of a simple roadside assistance claim. USAA's third party contractor damaged my vehicle when changing a tire. I had the damage repaired and now USAA refuses to refund me the cost of the damage. Seems as if USAA's customer service has been going downhill as of late and I am wondering if it comes from the top since they have recently changed CEOs. Sad that they will lose faithful customers over $400 plus dollars.

On 12-20-19, I was in an accident where a 16 year old failed to yield and turned left in front of me. We crashed. I had dashcam video showing I had a green light and right-of-way which I provided to USAA along with photos of my damage the same day I called them. It was a no-brainer. Their adjuster never called me back or e-mailed me after I left numerous messages.
After 2 weeks - yes 2 weeks - of nothing and ignoring my phone calls and e-mails, I had to finally go through my insurance State Farm as I needed to get my car repaired. I couldn't even set my car alarm due to my car damage. That same day I called State Farm, they had my rental car booked, my car repair place on notice so I could drop car off and their estimator booked to meet my car for an estimate.
USAA finally admitted their client was 100% at fault after 4 weeks of doing nothing. Shame on USAA for not doing anything!!! I hope they read this. They can look up my claim number of ** if they want to read all the documentation. I spoke to misc people on the phone at USAA who updated my file in the computer and even those employees were perplexed on why the adjuster wouldn't contact me. I asked two different times for a manager to call me. That never happened.
So now I have to wait for reimbursement for my deductible and my car rental fee as USAA has to send a check to State Farm. I should never have had to pay out any money in the first place as I tried to deal directly with USAA instead of my insurance but USAA just totally ignored me. Maybe someone from USAA will actually call me. My number is in that claim # file. Even though they weren't my insurer, there is no reason for laziness and ignoring my messages. I would not recommend them for anyone. J. ** in California.

So I placed claim after getting nowhere with Safelite under, so Safelite claimed responsibility have recordings, pictures to prove and we together agreed until they realized the extent. So after a year long fun filled amusement ride I finally sick a dizzy, get off the ride, now I have to get on the USAA ride who mind you I pay full coverage whatever that means because apparently you have to speak a well hidden and private language to get any kind of practical just plain dignity from human to human, common sense right? I guess I just expect what I pay for on a monthly regular basis.
Look how come if we never are supposed to use our insurance why pay for it? And look I look after a few veterans and respect them how and best I can. But this insurance company has no clue what respect, integrity or even honesty is. It's from my experience a gimmick to get your money a scheme. At least my experience you're free to judge incident, look be careful how you word things when you present them to this insurance company first. For days they sent back to Safelite then pretend to send me to their corporate office Usaa but Safelite again. So my story is this read what you sign if filing a claim seek legal advice and third find the dang book with this unknown language and I will buy a copy. Thanks Usaa.
My car is still not fixed. Storms are still rolling in and the fix Safelite after four trips has almost clown like characteristics it has stopped the leak but not for long due to down force on car. This is just not right at all in anyway, all I can say look car is the proof recording of Safelite claiming responsibility. Pictures of the torment cover on cover off car, no car wash, when it rains it pours in the freaking car. But you fixed it just not up to consumer standards.
Thank you and my insurance is supposed to cover injury and with mental health issues this has created more than just a simple life happens. This harms me every day due to the torment of knowing the truth proving the truth having pictures and still being told, "Nope we don't believe." Even though we say we do reason being my car needs fixed. So yeah big deal to me when the car four dogs that's it. And I don't expect anyone to understand the mental side but it's real. Doctors can attest. Thanks again.

Similar to other posts, USAA has become far worse in the last year or two. My car was totaled, and other driver at fault. Progressive not helpful at all, and USAA would not help me out and gave a bargain basement wholesale offer for the car, 30-40% below market value. I am actively looking for new insurance after 24 years. I am looking for cheaper and better. It seems USAA has decided to go for profit over quality and lost sight of its advertised mission. Their advertisements about looking after active and retired interests is now marketing propaganda. Sad change in the company.

On 11-25-2019 I was involved in a collision with a USAA insured driver who failed to yield right-of-way to me. The USAA insured driver admitted fault. It is now 1-20-2020, and USAA has not paid the claim to repair my vehicle and provide a rental. The assigned USAA adjustor does not return calls or messages. I have had to wait on hold for a call-taker to get any information at all. First the call takers advised that USAA had not yet talked to their insured. After taking 3 weeks to obtain a statement from their insured, USAA states that they are only 60% liable for my damages. When I realized that their driver was turning in front of me, I had braked hard and steered hard left in an attempt to avoid the collision.
My actions resulted in damage to my right front and the at-fault driver's right rear. Had I not taken the action that I did, I would have hit the at-fault driver's vehicle dead center (T-boned it), and that would have likely injured the occupants on the passenger side of that vehicle. I lessened the severity of the collision and avoided injuries by trying to avoid the at-fault drivers vehicle. USAA states that I am 40% liable for the collision because they conclude that I was not paying attention and did not do enough to avoid the collision. Their statement about my actions has no basis in fact, and is made solely in an attempt to avoid paying the claim. Now I am forced to sue USAA to get them to pay the full claim and provide a rental. In the meantime, I have a vehicle that I cannot drive due to it being unsafe to drive because of the collision damage.
My wife and I are both veterans, and we were considering switching to USAA since they have been heavily advertising their insurance service to veterans. Based on this ongoing incident, we will certainly never consider USAA for insurance or any other services, and we will be sure to pass on how they have treated us to anyone else considering USAA services.

Zero stars would be too many. My vehicle was rear ended by a USAA insured driver. After reporting the accident to USAA, weeks went by with no contact or communication from the claims adjuster. I eventually gave up and spoke to any customer service service rep that answered my call. I was told that USAA would be covering the cost of the repair and to take my car to the body shop for an estimate. A rental was also reserved for me at that time. My vehicle was dropped off at the body shop on 12/04/19 and on 12/09/19 I was notified that USAA had declared it a total loss. At that time, USAA instructed me that they would not be covering the cost of the rental past 12/12/19. So they leave me with no car and no payment just 3 days after deciding to total out my car. The least they could do is cover the cost of the rental until they issue payment for my totaled out car!!
On 12/13/19 I received an email from the total loss adjuster stating that my claim is unresolved because I had not submitted the exact paperwork. Problem was, I hadn't received any paperwork! Several calls later, it was discovered that USAA had given the title procurement company an incorrect mailing address for me. This was admitted during a three way call between myself, the title procurement rep, and adjuster. So the paperwork was never sent to me the first time. I finally received the paperwork on 12/17/19 and promptly signed everything and mailed it back the next day.
On 12/26/19, I contacted USAA to inquire on my payment status as I was still waiting for payment. I was told that the check was issued on 12/23/19. Over the course of 3 weeks, I sent multiple emails because the check never arrived to me nor my vehicle finance company. It seems pretty strange that 2 separate checks would go missing. Nobody ever replies to my emails, other than the generic "your email was received" message. On 01/11/20, I contacted USAA again and requested that replacements checks be issued immediately, sent overnight, and with tracking information. Once again, I never received a response from USAA. A simple reply or phone call to let me know that they will or will not issue replacement checks would have been really helpful at this point.
On 01/15/20, I received a check in the mail and deposited it my account. On 01/17/20, I was notified by my bank that the check was being returned because a stop payment was issued for it. Now I am left with multiple overdraft fees and returned check fees. If USAA would have attempted to communicate with me, I would have known that they were reissuing the check. Simple communication would have prevented a lot of stress with this whole situation. It has been a complete nightmare since day one, all because I was hit by a USAA insured driver. All the time and MONEY I have lost with this claim, you would think I was at fault for the accident. USAA has left me with no rental car since 12/13/19 and still waiting for total loss payment. COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE!!!

So on 12/21/2019, my car was totaled by one of USAA drivers that ran a stop sign at full speed. In the beginning, everything sounded good because my husband told them he didn't want to sue them. We just wanted our car repaired, well they said the car was totaled and everything went downhill from there. The adjuster put us in freaking rental car for 5 days max and we had to start paying out of pocket which is ridiculous since they have not sent payment for our car yet.
After the title paperwork was signed, sent back and we were forced to turn in the rental car so they would be able to "issue payment". The same adjuster calls and says oh now they are having the car towed back to our house with a salvaged title and the claim payment amount has dropped nearly $2,000!!! These are the biggest crooks ever and if they say your car is totaled, I suggest you get a second opinion and now we are going to get a lawyer involved before any payment is issued. I would never recommend USAA for your car insurance needs.

After being with USAA for over 27 years, My husband and I are thinking about canceling our insurance. We have been trying to get our subscribers money taken off our car insurance, since we had a choice of where we wanted it to go. We asked for a check, and when we talked to a representative she said she would fix it. Well, after being on the phone for almost an hour, we just got off the phone with a supervisor saying that their representative made a mistake, and there is nothing they can do to change it since the money was applied to our car insurance. So even though it was their mistake, we are the ones who pay for it. This is the first time we have ever had an issue that wasn't resolved. Think twice before going with USAA, things are not the way the were when we first joined them.

I am in the process of dumping USAA after being a member for the past 5 years. In November 2019 I was in an accident, which was the other drivers fault. My vehicle was totaled. I figured that due to the accident being the other drivers fault that this would be a fairly pain free process to go though. I couldn't have been more wrong. USAA has still not paid me the agreed upon payout for my vehicle, even two months after the accident. According to their own website, the payment should take place 24-48 hours after they receive all documents. This couldn't be further from the case.
USAA claims there is a title issue. There is no title issue. I am the owner of the vehicle. The only issue is that their was a lien on the vehicle, which I have paid off in full. I have a lien release from the loan company. For some reason, even with USAA receiving all this documentation, they do not want to pay me out. What has been even worse has been dealing with the agent assigned to my claim. She has been extremely rude and condescending. It's is like they don't care about my business at all! Part of the documentation that I needed to send to USAA was a power of attorney for any title issues that come up. So technically, USAA has the ability to take care of whatever they claim is the issue, even though there is no issue because I included everything asked for.
Also, after getting no payment from USAA I just called them to inquire about the next steps. They told me that I needed to go to the DMV to have the lien released, even though I sent them the lien release form. I told them that I needed my title back along with the lien release form. They had been holding onto this for weeks. Not sure how they thought I was to take care of this when they kept the documents? This has been a nightmare! I will never use this company or recommend this company to anyone!

It took two weeks for me to get a rental approved by them and then they made me turn it in a week ago yet I still haven't received paperwork to sign and finalize the claim so I'm unable to purchase another vehicle. Forget about talking to "your" claims adjuster cause they're never available, you just have to talk to whoever answers. USAA customer for 45+ years. Insured a 2004 BMW 330I for 14 yrs with total payments of $15,000+ without an accident claim. Recent accident resulted in damage $3,930.43 done by 3rd party using “virtual” process. USAA determined to "total" the vehicle; we desire to repair and keep the vehicle. USAA under-valued the car at $3,963 failing to include all options on the vehicle. USAA could not find equivalent models with same special equipment anywhere in North America - so USAA used other models as examples for valuation. We provided documentation of only equivalent models to be found – but located in Europe and having a MUCH higher value. We also provided documented examples of more similar models found in North America – also with higher values. USAA would not change their valuation.
At no time did USAA offer to repair the vehicle. Instead, USAA insisted that if damage is 80% of value of vehicle the “state” requires them to total the vehicle. USAA offered $3200 if we accept as total loss and they take the vehicle; $2673 if we keep car and repair ourselves but claim they “MUST” declare the vehicle a total and also (themselves) issue a salvage title. Research of FL Statutes show these claims to be erroneous and false; FL Statutes do NOT attach any percentage relationship to repair cost vs. value or any requirement to total the vehicle. FL only requires the owner (NOT the insurance company) to send them the title if repair costs exceed 100% of value of vehicle and they will issue a salvage title. Claims agents unwilling to research and acknowledge correct FL Statute verbiage.
Finally elevated matter to Executive level. Provided them (again) with correct verbiage of FL Statute and specific reference but they still claim "some states (no specifics given) require them to total the car. Now 60+ days later they have reassessed the damage and "magically' arrived at a new repair estimate of $5,425.26. A cursory review shows their cost estimates for parts exceed our findings. Have now dealt with three different claims agents and two executives; none of the executives appear to have full knowledge documentation related to claim; that is no acknowledgement of the vehicle value examples we provided or that FL Statutes DO NOT require the car to be totaled based upon repair costs being equal or exceeding the value placed on the vehicle. (FL Statute does require the “OWNER" to directly send the title to the state if cost of repairs exceeds value of vehicle and the state will issue a “salvage title”.)
We have told USAA that we would accept both their low valuation & their repair estimate and will pay additional repair costs out of our pocket. HOWEVER, it is clearly apparent to me that they have made the initial determination to total the vehicle and will go to any length to achieve that goal REGARDLESS of any state mandate to do so or the owner's desires to keep and repair the vehicle. Their latest (increased) repair estimate would result in the owner having to obtain a salvage title from the state and would fulfill their initial prediction that obtaining insurance for a “salvage” vehicle would be problematic.

My car was in an accident with one of their insured. The facts were plain and simple, their insured was at fault 100%. They were speedy and got us a quote to pay off my totaled car fast. That's when it went bad. They gave it to us Saturday, told us we had 3 days from when we received it to return the rental. Now I am paying $24 a day for a rental car because I have not received any paperwork to turn in the title. They won't give me the settlement until about 7 days after they receive this paperwork. So to be clear, I was to turn in the car Monday and not have a vehicle for at least 2 weeks, or pay for a rental $25 a day for 2 weeks or more. To top it all off new years is adding to the delays.

I was persuaded by a family member to switch to USAA. I managed to make it 25 years of marriage without any home owners claims or auto claims. In the past 2 years we have had one lightning strike to the home that has caused multiple things to break and malfunction. The claim ended by USAA using an outside company to come in and be the deciding factor stating it was not lightning, they did not help us with $18,000 in repairs. Fried geo thermal, fried well pump, fried sewage sump pump, fried ground wire, and a continuing cascade of small motor malfunctions not included in the above number. (Dryer, ceiling fan, microwave, etc.) Other experts agreed this was most likely due to the lightning strike in our area recorded by the power company and weather service.
Next the auto claims...the short story USAA finds every way possible not to pay. The kicker was when they said even if the other company is found at fault they would not pursue them on our behalf. We only had liability on this particular car because of the value. All our other cars have full coverage. In all my years of owning insurance I didn’t realize liability means pay monthly but don’t expect any help going after the other insurance company if you are hit by someone else. I also had to keep calling them, I was given misinformation, our adjuster seemed to always be out. I was the one asking “what are the next steps”? To add insult to injury, we are still paying for coverage on the car while they take their time protecting themselves from liability of damages claimed by the other company. They will pursue them on their behalf just not ours. We have to do that for ourselves according to our claims adjuster.
Lastly, as I’ve talked and listened to claims adjusters I have learned USAA is not there for you! In every case they made sure they are protected not us! They will sell you premium packages that sound awesome but in the end they weasel out of helping you every way possible! Accident forgiveness, haha, did you know you must pay into their insurance for 5 years before you have that benefit? Should have never left State Farm.

One of their insured rear ended my car. They claim complete fault in the accident. Problem was getting a fair settlement for my car. Everything on car from garage was listed good or very good. USAA and/or their estimate company gave very low value of car. I disputed, sent in receipts for up keep. They raised value $50.00. Then stopped communicating with me. Said had to send in title by MD law to get a settlement check from them.
Again I said wanted to retain the vehicle. Paperwork had to be done three times for them to accept that I wanted to retain the car. Then in order to settle still wanted title and I had to go through taking off work to get salvage title and inspection done. None of which they were willing to compensate for. If ever in an accident and USAA is the company you have to deal with Good Luck.

Every auto place is closed so won’t get my car till tomorrow evening.
The first person was helpful. The second lady transferred me after I asked her to please make sure I don’t have to enter info again while driving. She did it anyways, and had to do the same stuff again. Then the third lady transferred me to a rental car place they answered and (heard people talking and hung up. So had to do the same stuff again. Then they want me to pay $77 and pick up a car in 30 minutes. My wife found $55 and we had until midnight to pick it up. Terrible experience, terrible service, and handled incorrectly by USAA. I’ve never had trouble with Allstate and never had trouble with USAA until today. Just terrible. It doesn’t help it’s a holiday is what one lady said. Yeah I plan this stuff to happen during a holiday and at my lunch break. Stupid!

I was towing my bass boat through Kentucky on my way home to West Virginia in early November. It is now December 18 and the claim is till open. A USAA member hit me from behind on the interstate going 70mph. He hit so hard it knocked the motor off my boat completely and bent the trailer. It has been a nightmare dealing with the claim and customer service since day one. Granted, boat claims are out of the norm, therefore insurance companies are not set up to handle values and damage amounts. I am a very patient person, but I am at my wit's end with this claim. I get a different customer service representative every day along with a different story as to how they intend to handle the claim, whether it be total the boat, trailer and motor or compensate me for the damages.
My wife wants to divorce me, she says because I am always in a bad mood. I can't help but think that this will never be resolved and in the end I will get shafted. I'm a 44 year old male and I've had one accident in the 28 years I've been driving, so I feel confident in saying I'm a safe driver. Had it been my automobile that the guy hit I'm positive this would have been resolved by now because they would be paying for a rental car. How can an insurance company get away with jerking people around like this for an unlimited time? USAA needs some changes made to their customer service training. And a law or something that penalized companies if they can't get a claim resolved in a certain amount of time. This company is the WORST!!

Nearly 10 years ago I mistakenly added my soon-to-be step-son on to my USAA auto insurance. He was added about 5 days prior to me actually marrying his mother. Just so happened he got in a car accident 2 days prior our marriage and he put in a claim to USAA. The representative noted that he was not actually eligible to be covered under my policy since his mother and I weren't married until 2 days later.
USAA dropped me from my insurance and cancelled my checking account without even allowing me to plead my case. I am a 27-year retired Air Force veteran and they treated me like I was a "criminal". They wouldn't even give me the respect of allowing me to plead my case. It's 12 years later and they still would not allow me to plead my case so I can use their services again. Having been with USAA for 36+ years. Starting about two years the corporate culture seems to have changed from an individual focus to “numbers” culture. Originally, we were treated like family. Now you are just a number to USAA. Recently we applied for a VA refinance. The process was very tedious. After about 30 days into the refinance and having spoken with 4 different agents, we decided to drop the refinance. We were asked at least 3 different agents for information we had already supplied. Additionally, the attitude of the agents were at times condescending, nothing like what we originally experienced with USAA. We are actively seeking other insurance companies.

I had been with GEICO for about 10 years and had an experience that prompted me to go back to USAA. Prior to my new auto insurance policy, I had never had any issues with USAA. However, since I started this new policy over a year ago, it's been nothing but a nightmare. The customer service has been horrible. No one ever seems to know what they are saying, agents constantly contradict the previous one or the notes on my account. They suck at explaining anything. My daughter got into one MINOR accident as a new driver and my premiums just about doubled. And when I sold my truck and went into a smaller economic car which should have been cheaper to insure, I was quoted a decrease in my premium of almost 650 dollars.
So what happens? They use my daughter's accident to RAISE my premium with an "accident surcharge" of almost a THOUSAND dollars. When I asked why I wasn't informed of this when I renewed my policy, I was told "we mail you a copy of your policy." with NO explanation at all. And then when I ask how long I will have to pay this "accident surcharge" they tell me until NOVEMBER 2022! WTF is that? I've been in ONE accident (weather caused) my entire adult life and my premium has never gone up, and yet one accident from my teen driver and now my insurance costs more than my car payments!!! I advise you to definitely shop around, they might be cheaper than some, but their customer service and assistance is horrible, and they screw you in the fine print.

We were told we are not accepting responsibility the accident was 100% the other driver’s fault and the deductible is waived. Then I was contacted by another adjuster via messaging who states we are accepting full responsibility and will have to pay the deductible. This is unacceptable. Alexys ** supposedly took responsibility as our claims adjuster in the beginning. She got our information then completely disappeared. I called her for weeks repeatedly but could never reach her. I did talk to four other adjusters who stated they are all a team and Alexys doesn’t control the case. So I worked with each of them openly. They told me the other driver was totally responsible.
Right before the vehicle was to be fixed I suddenly received a phone call from Alexys who stated we are 100% at fault and USAA will be paying !00% of the bill to the other driver as well. I asked where she had disappeared to and she stated she had been in contact with me the whole time, such a foolish lie. I am sure their records and recording would prove otherwise. She also stated the other 4 claims adjusters I had spoken to could not make any decisions in this matter and that I should not have been speaking to them. USAA also forced my wife to have a phone conversation with the other driver’s insurance company.
I explained to Alexys that my wife is not 100% with English as she is from Indonesia, but they forced her to have a conversation with them anyway and I was not allowed to be involved in any way. I told them I would like an interpreter which they supplied, but the interpreter did not say a word throughout the whole conversation. Basically they railroaded my wife throughout the process.
The company is very unprofessional and the “adjusters” are not responsible. Needless to say we have left USAA as quickly as we could. In fact I never knew of USAA's existence until today when I saw an ad on TV. I denied her assertion and she proceeded to ask additional question, which I found routine -- until she asked me to identify my children. I would say since 2015 the bank has been in steady decline. My insurance rates go up every renewal for no reason. I ended up switching to Allstate and saving $50 a month on my car and $150 a month on my home. Forget about getting a loan through them they barely approve you for anything and put you on a high interest rate. I ended up getting my home through Veterans United and got a great interest rate and was approved for 100k more than what USAA would lend. Monthly went up EVERY SIX MONTHS no matter what. Was quoted for driving roughly 10,000 miles per year, averaged only 7k. Never in an accident, never a ticket, no new drivers added, never anything but bills paid on time. Went up on average $20-$40 every 6 months at renewal no matter what. When I asked why, the reply was: it costs more to insure drivers in your area.
Do your research. Same answer to safe driver's in Florida, Kentucky and East Bumble Fudge Montana. It's a scam. They prey on military loyalty, offer a great introductory first 6-12 months then steadily raise your rates and basically see how long your loyalty lasts. Switched to another company. I've been a loyal USAA customer for 20 years and have had no major issues with their products. However, my 19-year-old daughter recently had a bad experience with them that leads me to question my loyalty to the company. My daughter sold her car without immediately replacing it. She contacted USAA, her auto insurance provider, and advised them of the sale. She was told she would be refunded her insurance premium for the remainder of the coverage period. When she did not receive the refund after about a month, she called USAA again and was denied the refund despite previously being told she would get it. She was not given a reason, and had documentation of the initial notice of sale. She appealed the decision of the customer service representative online and won, receiving her refund almost immediately.
About a month later, she bought another car and insured it through USAA, only to find her premium had doubled due to the lapse in coverage. Her appeal wound up costing her more than not appealing. Never was any of this information given to her so that she could decide for herself how to proceed while between vehicles. This behavior does not reflect the USAA that I remember, but since I've had the same vehicle for years and no issue with my other accounts with them, I haven't really had to deal with them recently. But the way they handled my daughter's case, a financially strapped college student with no history of claims or tickets, reeks of bad faith for the sake of increased profit. I have been with USAA for 8 months. Within that 8 months they took 2 payments out 3 times - May, July, and October. In May and July, I caught it while it was still pending in my account but no one mentioned looking into the matter further - and believe me, they have a major billing issue. In October, I didn't catch it until after it had been taken out. I spoke to one smart-mouth who told me that the transaction only shows pending with my bank and will fall off. I called back and spoke with a rep and eventually escalated to a "self proclaimed sup" and they both swore me down that I made one of those payments myself via the mobile app. I told them that I know better than anyone that if I have auto pay set up and I still make a manual payment, auto pay will still take the scheduled payment - they have a disclaimer that states that as well before taking the payment. I only made an online payment to my Amex card.
When I advised that I wanted to remove auto pay, they removed it and told me that I would be charged $34 more for not having auto pay. Basically, they were going to penalize me for their malfunctioning app. I called back and spoke to one rep that seemed like he knew what was going on and he said he could set me up on auto pay and ensure that only one payment would come out at a time from now on. The authorization for auto pay through their automated system failed because them taking out 2 payments left my account negative and it was going to take 2 days for them to put the 2nd payment back and I would have to have at least $1 for them to set up auto pay. So they couldn't even fix the problem because they were the problem.??
I woke up this morning with the hopes that they would have put the funds back in and to my horror, there sat a big fat negative balance and a $33 NSF fee. When I called them about it, they again accused me of causing the issue because I made the payment via the mobile app and they said that they don't refund NSF fees. I gave them the option to fix the matter or to cancel the account. They said they couldn't fix it and I cancelled the account.
When I called my bank to dispute the $33 fee, the bank said that both payments were taken via auto pay - one from my checking account using the routing and account number and the other from checking using my debit card. From day one, I was told that auto pay couldn't be set up on my card. And what do you know? All the while it could be set up on auto pay, all the while they had me set up for auto pay with my checking account AND my debit card. I asked them if that was a possibility and they all told me no. USAA is not all that great!

USAA wanted to force me to pay insurance when I had to salvage a vehicle due to its age and wear. Because I chose not to carry insurance for the time period that I did not own a vehicle to insure, they wanted me to pay a full 6 month rate up front right after I had just purchased a vehicle. That's how much they care. They don't value the service of my grandfather's, my father, my son, my uncle's or my cousin. I got the same rate from some piddly insurance company with monthly payments. USAA is giving false value to our men who served. USAA is a money making scammer.

Just absolutely the worst claims service that I have ever seen. This needs to be investigated for fraud. From low balling to sending checks hoping that you accept the low amount and dont call them back to telling you where you can and cannot get the car repaired. Then telling you diminished value of a car from before and after accident only dropped 3$ total. If this was 1920 maybe that would have made sense. A scratch on a car makes it worth 3$ less. How could an accident that requires both a rear and front bumper replacement only change 3$ value. If you have to deal with them lawyer up and sue them to ensure you get treated properly.

In over 45 years with USAA, I've had 3- 4 fender benders, bought a car through them, transferred car insurance on a Saturday on a car that I paid cash for, obtained a mortgage from them, obtained flood insurance in the low country, and rely on a visa from them the most because they do not penalize you if you miss a month, without ANY problems. Plus they have always been extremely nice. While I've been a member, I have lived in SC, AL, NY, NJ, VA, NC, and DC with no issues. They have earned my trust, unlike so many corporations that suffer from American 'greed' not ethics. I don't usually write reviews, but after reading all of those negative reviews I felt compelled to rebut them.

My mother is elderly with respiratory issues. Her A/C located in the ceiling sprung a leak which did moderate damage to her home including her wood floors. I am well over a month into this claim with still not resolve. At first they advised I had to send the condo BY-Laws which I did. Then it was "we need the insurance certificate as well" which was sent only to be told they need a CCR which was incorrect.
After they got their paperwork issues settled they sent my mother an estimate of the settlement which is laughable. Replacing a true Bruce 5/16 wood floor with a "engineered" floor at 1/4 the cost. As well the offer included zero in mold mitigation. Upon contacting the adjuster she now tells me I must submit a ITEL report from the hardwood contractor, and I must get a estimate from a mold remediation company. She actually said "I thought YOU were going to remediate the mold". Check your policies folks, my mothers has a $2500 max coverage for mold mitigation. I've been with USAA for decades. I've tried several of their products and here's the bottom line:
2. Mixed bag on financial services--none which I use anymore.
I used USAA bank for a while, but their savings interest rates weren't reliably competitive. I had some mutual funds with their investment services, but switched to Fidelity when they offloaded services to a third party provider that clearly didn't staff for the switch-over. I would have switched anyway--Fidelity and Vanguard are the way to go. So I'm keeping three insurance policies with them, but saving and investing elsewhere.

USAA markets itself as the best choice of insurance company for past and present military families. They like to say that they are committed to supporting military families, and that may be the case...until you need to file a claim. Then their patriotism quickly evaporates. My low-mileage, lightly-used, very well-maintained car was totaled by a teenage driver in a 100% not-at-fault accident. From the beginning the experience was a nightmare. The adjuster assigned to me was absent for the majority of the case. If you don't know, the adjuster is supposed to be your advocate in communicating with the opposing car insurance company. My adjuster checked in with me 5 times or less during the month-long process and I'm not sure he contacted the other insurance company at all. Maybe he did, but he didn't keep me informed about what was going on.
Eventually I asked him to keep a detailed record of his contacts with the opposing insurance company...I figured he wasn't doing his job, and I was trying to force him to. The next day I didn't hear from him, but I did hear from the opposing insurance company. I believe that facing pressure to actually work, he figured it would be easier to deal with the other insurance company to resolve that portion of the claim than to deal with me. So already things in my claim process weren't going great due to the unprofessionalism and incompetence of the USAA employees.
Then, the experience with the Midwest branch of the total loss department was horrific. Please be forewarned that USAA uses CCC One software to value your vehicle. CCC One is a highly corrupt and biased valuation tool notorious for low-ball offers. CCC One has been sued many times and conveniently always settles out of court so that there is no legal precedent on the books. How no enterprising lawyer has taken on a class action against CCC One I do not know, as that lawyer would make a lot of money. It would be hard to sue USAA specifically for using CCC One, because all the major carriers do. The low-ball offers save them millions. Anyway, USAA defers to CCC One during negotiations over value. You can provide dozens of examples supporting the actual market value of your vehicle, they're not going to budge and will just say that CCC One is giving an accurate and fair estimate of the worth of your vehicle.
If you are ever in the unfortunate situation where you are facing a total loss through no fault of your own, prepare to receive nowhere close to the amount of money it would take to replace your vehicle with the same make, model & year of vehicle, with similar mileage and condition. Also, prepare for the representatives you interact with to be at best, lazy and unhelpful, and at worst, actively attempting to deflect or sabotage your attempt to be compensated fairly for your loss.
It took USAA three tries to even get the options correct for my car. I had to review the CCC reports myself and go back to them 3 times to ensure that the options logged were accurate and complete (this is important because it affects the valuation of the vehicle). An argument could be made that the total loss department is just incompetent, and while I can guarantee that's an accurate assessment, it is much more likely that USAA intentionally "forgets" to add this or that option in the hopes that the person on the receiving end of the settlement offer won't do their due diligence. The onus is on you, the person who was just involved in a serious car accident and could very well be injured physically and mentally, to review the CCC report and ensure its accuracy.
Start haggling from there. They may try to tell you the settlement process isn't a negotiation. Right. Everything in life is a negotiation. But don't expect to be able to haggle up by much. After a month of fighting, we clawed $300 from them, but it cost us a considerable amount of time and effort to do so. We were pro se. I don't know how this process would unfold with a lawyer. We weren't in the financial position to be able to retain one, given that we had just indirectly lost tens of thousands of dollars by losing one of our household's cars.
I decided to go with USAA for my car insurance for one, their reputation as being military friendly. This is laughable. They do not give a crud about the military whatsoever, but you can't know that until you need to file a claim. For two, their premiums were cheaper than many competing insurance companies. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. I can't stress that enough. I chose to save money on my premium with the belief that I'd never need to make a claim. Once the worst that could happen actually happened to me, USAA handled my case as if I were the at-fault party. The experience was disgusting, stressful (and stressful isn't a strong enough descriptor, really), and made what was already a horrific, life-altering event so much worse. In hindsight I wish I had paid more money month to month to be taken care of with respect, compassion, and fairness by another company.
USAA was happy to accept my on-time premiums for many years, but when I needed them? They treated my claim like trash, would not compensate fairly, and hid behind CCC One's biased output. I'm sure the same could be said of every major insurance carrier...but I find the fact that USAA hides their corruption behind a guise of patriotism particularly reprehensible. We (military families) are a specific population with unique needs and experiences, and USAA targets us like wolves and lambs. It's shameful.
Just keep in mind, you get what you pay for. USAA is scum. The people who work there are scum. You can save money on their admittedly competitive premiums and pray that you are never in a car accident. Or you can pay more month to month but have some peace of mind. My household will never do a cent of business with USAA again. We have warned everyone we personally know to change their carrier. We are leaving reviews on sites like these to try to spread the word about what a terrible company they are. Good luck to everyone who will one day find themselves in the position I was in with USAA as their carrier.

We are almost two weeks from accident date and her car has still not been inspected. Contacted Claim Center today and was told that the USAA inspector only goes to that location twice a week and for some reason he just did not go to inspect the car when he should have last week. Then the representative tells me that he may have had a family emergency or something important that kept him from inspecting my car and that I needed to be patient and understanding.
So basically I guess their new motto is that their customers need to be patient and understanding and that USAA will get to us when they get to us because we are not as important as they are. Don't get me wrong. I feel bad for anyone who is having family emergencies or situations out of the norm like a car wreck where the car may be totaled and your daughter was taken to the hospital for treatment. It just really shocked me that a representative from the company would say that. Of the three cars I have owned, all have been financed through USAA. In the past I have known USAA to be dependable, until this past week. We are in the process of purchasing a new vehicle and decided to finance through USAA. A down payment has been made, trade-in values established, titling and registration are complete, but USAA has failed to make an electronic transfer of funds to the dealership. We have been waiting five business days for this transaction to go through, and anticipate waiting an additional three more before we are able to take possession of the car. In hindsight, we should have financed through the car dealership. It is unacceptable that an electronic transfer of funds should take eight business days.
This event has shaken my confidence in USAA's ability to deliver a quality product, and I will not finance another vehicle with them again. Veterans are also welcome, you don't need to put in the full 20 years or be active to qualify so long as you have your DD214 (you may need to be honorably discharged though, not sure).
Whenever I contact them, they always inquire about changes in the family or status. They strive to be up-to-date. They add the children on the account, which is great for their own USAA coverage. USAA isn't just an insurance company, they care about your family and needs. I am so happy to have USAA, I checked around for other insurance several years ago when I added my sister on and found that insurance rates were much higher. After talking to 6 people and 75 minutes later, they came up with a bunch of excuses. Finally they decided that because there was a lapse in insurance between policies.
Now, keeping in mind that I had no car to insure in between policies, I asked how or why I needed insurance without a car? I received letters and phone calls from her insurance company that stated I was at fault and I would be responsible for her damage and injuries.
I contacted USAA and expressed my concern for this since my insurance company and the state accident investigator told me they thought she was at fault, though no citation was issued to either party. USAA assured me that this is normal and I should just let the insurance companies hash it out, which they did. While my vehicle was at the dealer getting accident repairs a customer from their parts department backed into my vehicle and did extensive damage to the undamaged side of my vehicle. All told, my vehicle was out of commission for two months, just two weeks after I purchased it. It spent more time on the dealer body shop floor than it had in my driveway. USAA was on top of all of this and they kept tabs on the progress of my repairs and kept me informed. Now that's one heck of an insurance company!

USAA has been there for me when needed. They provided me with "Hurricane" coverage for half the price of others because of recently mandated coverage by state of Massachusetts. They may not be rock bottom cheapest but they are close. What keeps me with them is their outstanding customer service and competitive pricing. You never feel pressured and receive a dividend annually (based on their profits I believe).

So, I had my first auto claim with USAA. Someone hit my car in a parking lot and left with no note. So, I called in the claim on June 24. I went to my shop and received an estimate then uploaded to the claim site. Three weeks later, I called in to understand why no-one had contacted me. I was told I needed to upload photos and a link would be sent to me. I waited another week and no link. Then, I called back in and was told the link was accidently sent to my repair shop's landline! Again, I was to receive another link. One week later, still no link! So I call back yet again.
At this point, 45 days has passed and I still have no approval to get my car fixed!! I finally received the link and upload the photos and after a week I hear nothing. I then called in for the 5th time and am obviously furious! The gentleman explains that he cannot see the photos...I was about ready to climb through the phone and strangle someone! I was told to just take photos myself and upload them to the claim site, which I did. Then another week passes and I hear nothing. So I call in and am told they will call the estimator partner and I should hear something within the day. Guess what? You got it! I didn't hear anything so once again, called in.
As I am speaking to the claim rep on the phone, I get an email saying my estimate is attached. After review, I realize they are not giving me a new OEM bumper. So, I call in and speak to a Manager named Mary. I had to advise her of the MN Statute that states insurance companies must put OEM parts on a vehicle. How can she be a manager if she isn't aware that each state has different Statutes? She calls me back and says, "I was mistaken." We are putting an OEM part on your BMW, but it is refurbished! My car barely has 40,000 miles on it and the bumper is in perfect condition before I was hit! Now I am going to get a refurbished part? Something that had damage and now has supposedly been fixed!? They charge me an arm and a leg because I drive a BMW, but then they don't give me new parts!! USAA does not treat veterans any better than any other insurance company! This claim is now 60 DAYS old and I still do not have my car fixed. Leaving this crappy company as soon as my car is fixed!

We are a veteran family and have been a multi product customer of USAA for over 20 years. We have also referred friends & family to the company. Recently, due to changes in the family & with vehicles, I have had an increased level of interaction with the customer service team & state based Insurance Agents for North Carolina & Florida. Where the highest quality of service to its clients was a consistent experience at USAA, those days are unfortunately gone. It is hit or miss. - mostly a miss.
For the first time in many years, due to the terrible service, combined with a lack of the special circumstances typically encountered by a military family, & with astronomical rate increases (+ 34%, despite being insured with them over 20 years, no tickets or accidents), I find myself shopping for auto insurance. Sadly, Geico has beat their rate, prior to the increase! It’s sad that USAA is cheating the trust of long term customers who believed that USAA always automatically gave its members the best rates in the marketplace.

From the initial calls, to getting the rental, to getting a fair reimbursement from USAA, the whole process went extremely smoothly. We didn't have to speak to agents many times over the phone, since the website gives a clear overview of where things stand in the claims process. That being said, the times we did have to speak to a representative, I got clear answers and friendly treatment each time. I was expecting a lot worse and was pleasantly surprised. I got the honest feeling that each person wanted to help us get our situation resolved for us and cared about the outcome. This all coming after a significantly lower premium after switching from Liberty Mutual, who we had been a customer for over 10 years.

MY SON IS IN BOOTCAMP AND HAD FRAUDULENT CHARGES!! The WORST customer service I have ever experienced! The call I made to USAA last night about my son's debit card being frauded (while he is in Navy Bootcamp) cannot be real! My son has been in bootcamp for five weeks and I was checking his account yesterday and found four charges from Uber. My first thought was, "How could he have charges from Uber since he is in bootcamp?" Luckily, I received a call from him toward evening time so I was able to ask him about the charges in which he said nobody has access to his debit card and there is no way it was possible to have these FRAUDULENT CHARGES!
I immediately called USAA and the representative that responded to my call seemed like she hated her job but I gave her the benefit of the doubt and figured she might be having a bad day or maybe she is new. Plus, she pretended to have sympathy for the situation but it was so obvious that she did not care. I called a second time because I was hoping to find out where the charges originated from. My concern was that this could be happening to many more recruits. These kids are training hard in bootcamp and being "robbed" and have no idea it is happening. Plus, for most of them, this is their first bank account and do not know how to dispute things like this. What a shame, that they graduate from bootcamp and their bank account balance is $0.
Well apparently, USAA hires "jokesters" to entertain themselves while talking to customers about serious situations. It got to the point that I had to tell the representative to "shut the ** up" because he wasn't listening, he was talking over me and repeating himself like an idiot (this had to be a prank because there is no way someone can be like that in real life). I asked to speak to his supervisor and it seemed like she was in on it too. SAD!!! COME ON USAA!!! WHERE ARE YOU GETTING THESE PEOPLE FROM?! This was completely UNPROFESSIONAL AND UNACCEPTABLE!!
I am a very patient person and have pretty much given up on expecting, at a minimum, satisfactory customer service so I usually just let it go. I told them that I hope they are entertained and they are wrong for behaving badly. USAA should feel ashamed. Lastly, if by chance I am wrong about the call being conducted in a way to get laughs at work and frustrate customers, where the hell did USAA find people that genuinely have a two year old maturity and education level?

There was only minor front end damage to our vehicle and we received a total loss statement from USAA. I called USAA and asked what collision center the car was sent to so I could contact them about the repairs and USAA told me they did not send our vehicle to a collision center but to a salvage yard and this is where they do their estimates of damage. Then USAA admitted they did not estimate any damage to the engine compartment, even though the radiator was leaking.
Then I received a FedEx envelope a few days later requesting us the sign our vehicle over to a company called CoPart, apparently who has possession of our car. Finally I got a lawyer, who got me a $25,000 settlement on my personal injury, plus a $12,000 check for my car, when all I originally wanted was my car fixed, and a rental for the few days it was being fixed. They purposefully held off having the damage appraised for weeks and then refused to pay for our rental for that time. They were angry that we had them go to the body shop to do the appraisal because the body shop would go over the damage with them and they would be forced to do an honest appraisal.
We tried over and over to contact the person in charge of our claim, leaving numerous messages and got no reply. With higher/better coverages (significantly better) we were quoted $1394 LESS THAN WHAT WE ARE CURRENTLY PAYING USAA/YR. We have no at-fault accidents (only accident was when we were hit by a wrong way driver), and ZERO homeowners claims EVER. The agent we spoke with said the rates we are paying would be considered amongst the highest there is (based on average numbers) anywhere in the country and that it really did not make sense that they were so high. I have been with USAA for 13 years. I never expected that they were fleecing us so badly. Expensive and Ineffective should be USAA's slogan if you ask me. Never ever again and I really have nothing positive to say about them at all.

Wow where to begin. I have been a loyal customer for 6 years. Never late on any payments, I have multiple USAA products, auto insurance, renter's insurance and banking. However last week when in I'm 2 states away from home I try to log on to Usaa.com to see my balance in my account and I can't log on, I call USAA and get transferred 6 different times, get refused a supervisor and then get transferred some more and no one will tell me why I can't access Usaa.com. Finally I get someone from banking that tells me "USAA has decided to exercise their rights and end their relationship with you and that's why you can't access Usaa.com" but she couldn't tell me why.
So suddenly I'm 5 hours from home and have no access to my bank account and they tell me "a check will be mailed for what's in the account". I am pissed. Luckily I have another bank account with money or I'd be stranded. I have yet to get any answers from USAA about why, and no answers as to why I was not notified prior. I received a letter today, stating the same thing I was told on the phone, but no explanation and it was dated after they locked me out of my account. Choose any other company on the planet. USAA is a bunch of crooks!!

USAA sold me a wrap around policy to the Subaru warranty that stopped at 36k miles. I extended the original warranty to 60k. USAA gave, or sold, the warranty to Assurant after USAA billed me and rolled the cost into the current loan. The company they used was Assurant Solutions. 4 months later we had an issue with all the warning lights coming on a trip away from home. We decided to stop and get a motel and go to the dealer the next morning. The next morning I called Assurant and they had no record. It took me several phone calls before Assurant found my policy. They denied all coverage and said I would have to file a claim. Several hours later the problem resolved and we drove 70 miles home.
I called USAA to complain and I spoke to 5-6 people who were exceptionally pleasant but in all cases transferred me to the same unhelpful Assurant phone #s. USAA has gotten too big and as I have been with them for 50 + years, this was the worst service I have ever gotten from them. I recommend NOT buying any third party products from them because it appears USAA does not stand behind them once they sell it. Buy these extended warranties directly from the dealer such as Subaru.

My daughter was hit by a young man who is covered by USAA auto insurance while she was parked. I was happy that the person responsible had coverage from a large, well-known company... Boy, was I wrong to be happy about USAA. That week I called to file a claim with USAA, and never thought twice about having my daughter provide a statement. My daughter gave an excellent, truthful statement. The next day I was called by an adjuster who stated that my daughter was 20% at fault because she was in the vehicle (preparing to leave, but the car was still parked), and she had not honked...What? When I stated that no reasonable person would have expected her to honk in that situation the adjuster, Debbie, said "You are entitled to your opinion." Nice...
In the confirmation letter they went up to cover 90% of the damages, but when I tried to call to dispute the resolution mysteriously Debbie never answered her phone again. UGH. I have had to deal with other car insurance companies, but never with people as robotic and unresponsive as USAA. As the damages are minimal I am taking the 90%, but if you have claim against USAA I highly recommend getting a lawyer. You do not want to deal with them unrepresented.

I’ve been with USAA for 24 years. (Now I’m wondering why.) They claim to SERVE the military and its veterans. "Prey upon" may be better terminology. The military in general is a pretty safe environment in which to do business because most people have honesty and integrity in this community. So USAA has settled in on that environment claiming to serve them. I have only had small claims with them over the years and on little things they normally covered it, nothing stellar, just the minimum. However, in a recent minor claim I felt VERY DECEIVED. A mouse chewed some wires in my car. I brought it to a dealer who assessed the situation and said it would cost $840 to repair the damage (minus my $50 comprehensive deductible = $790). USAA totaled the car!
USAA valued the car at $3034.20, ignored the mechanic's advice, and came up with their own imaginary repairs and numbers of $2332.85 to replace the entire wire harness. When I confronted the total loss rep and asked who makes the determination of what deems a car a total loss? She stated, "the mechanic. I went back to the mechanic with this quote and USAA's determination of work. He said that he did not know where they came up with that information and showed me what he had sent them, (a repair for $840). I have been trying to contact the rep for almost a week left 6 messages… crickets....
I contacted another rep on the general call in line and was told when they make their determination. That's it. This is the second vehicle of mine USAA has totaled needlessly. The other one was for paint. I got a salvage title on that one, gave a guy $400 to fix the paint and 5 years later its still on the road. But it is worthless, I can't sell it or carry collision coverage on it. When you can't deal with someone face to face it's easy to be deceived.

USAA states that it is not our fault but they are still trying to charge the deductible to us. They have refused rental reimbursement that we paid extra for years. Our auto remains unfixed because USAA never came out to view our auto and their estimate for repair was much higher than the 3 repair shops we obtained estimates from.
Also their valuation of our car was much lower due to the wrong information entered on the current state our car and options combined with the comparisons they used. Their valuation of our BMW is $2000+ LESS than any current for sale with the same features and condition. The customer service representatives are to the point of harassing and badgering us to make us settle as a total loss. We have been told false information regarding the total loss threshold.... which has changed three times when we confront them! I would have recommended this insurance to anyone until this accident. The first accident, the other party simply took off although I was able to take the car’s license number which was submitted to USAA. The other party was never pursued and USAA flatly decided I was at fault. The 2nd accident, it was the the other party’s insurance that communicated with me because USAA never bothered to call the other party’s insurance. And a few months ago, our van was rear-ended and USAA just again simply declared it as a total loss and the the other party’s insurance found out from me when they called to let us know that we could bring our van to a repair shop for repairs. My dealings with USAA over the past month have been one problem after another. If I could give USAA zero stars, I would. On April 29, 2019, my car (which was parked on a street) was hit by a man insured by USAA, with damage done to the rear bumper and tail light. I was not in my car at the time it was hit, and the liability was 100% the other driver’s fault. As instructed by USAA, on 5/01/19 I took my car to a USAA approved body shop to get an estimate, which was $2084.01. USAA immediately deposited this amount into my bank account, which is the only positive thing that I can say about them. On 5/06/19, I took my car to my mechanic to havethe repairs done. When he took the bumper off, he discovered more damage that had been done underneath the bumper.
My mechanic called USAA the same day to report the additional damage. It took 2 days for the USAA adjuster to come out. And then it took a WEEK to get the adjusted estimate, which was an additional $2805.44. The adjusted estimate was not sent to my mechanic until 5/15/19, NINE days after my mechanic called USAA to tell them about the additional damage. My car was sitting at the shop for NINE days, just waiting on the paperwork from USAA so that the repairs could be started!!! USAA was supposed to send my mechanic a check for the additional cost of the repairs. On 5/24/19 my mechanic called to tell me that my car would be finished on 5/29/19 and that he had not received any payment from USAA for the additional cost of repairs. I called and spoke with a USAA representative, who told me that they had mailed the check on 5/14/19. However, they sent it to the wrong address!
The representative told me that they would void the first check and issue a new check once the void was completed. He said that since this was the Friday before Memorial Day weekend, the new check probably wouldn’t be mailed until the following Tuesday, 5/28/19—one day before my car would be ready for pick up. Since I live in the Chicago area, I asked where the check would be mailed from, and he told me San Antonio, TX. There is no way that the U.S. mail can get from San Antonio to Chicago in one day! My mechanic will not release a car without full payment and requested that USAA send a check overnight to him since they made the mistake in sending the first check to the wrong address. USAA refused to send the new check overnight.
Today is 5/29/19. I got a call this morning from my mechanic. My car is finished. USAA mailed the check from San Antonio yesterday. Who knows how long it will take for it to actually reach my mechanic and whether or not they mailed it to the correct address?!! USAA called my mechanic and asked if he would accept an EMAIL as proof of payment! He told me that he can’t deposit an email in the bank. Given USAA’s track record, I wouldn’t accept an email as proof of payment from them either. Another very frustrating aspect of all of this is that there is no one person who is handling my claim. Every time I have called USAA, I have talked with a DIFFERENT representative, so I have to repeat the entire story over and over again.
I have told each person how frustrating it has been to deal with USAA, and the response has always been, “Can I help you with anything else?” They haven’t helped me with anything!!! Today I asked to talk with a manager, someone who actually has some responsibility in the company. The representative said that she will have the manager call me. I’m waiting….as usual with USAA.

It appears the pipe had been leaking for a long period of time. It is now the end of May 2019 and the repairs still haven't been completed. Yes, that’s seven months later! USAA is getting close, but it has been a frustrating challenge working with USAA, its representatives and its contractors. The quality of the workmanship was substandard and unacceptable. They had to redo the floors.
If it weren't for my brother, who lives in the same town as my mom and me, who lives 8 hours away by car, I do not have confidence that USAA or its representatives would have done anything. A total lack of communication, commitment or ownership by USAA to get the repairs completed in a timely and professional manner. The disruption, stress and confusion this situation has created, for all of us, but especially on my 88-year-old frail mother. Again, without the active pursuit of this issue by my brother and me I doubt USAA would have processed the claim. I did just that and assumed USAA would handle the rest. Boy was I wrong. Called back several times over the next few weeks and received the same response: "We are still waiting for the other driver to make his statement." Seriously? If he hasn't responded in almost a month that's the same as admitting guilt in my opinion.
Finally, I decided to call USAA again with the intent to voice my dismay if they didn't have a proper resolution. The lady put me on hold while she contacted an Allstate representative. After about fifteen minutes she returned to finally tell me Allstate was taking full responsibility for the accident. I was so relieved. I have spoken to no less than 7 of their people in various departments today -- bounced around and blown off. All they want to do is talk down to me and explain their "process." I know their "process" better than they do at this point. The last person I spoke to, named Julie, again went into an explanation (I don't want an excuse, just a resolution) and told me she would "request" a 4-day extension on my rental from her manager when she returned from lunch. I don't care about a "request," and certainly don't care about the manager being out to lunch. Julie did not call to tell me that anything had actually been done to resolve my issue. I sent in paper work from where my car was at the dealership 3 weeks prior and the inspection showed my car tires fine. Customer service was good up until my wife and I had our vehicles involved in an accident with another USAA member. Our vehicles were both parked on the side of the street in our neighborhood. The driver was not paying attention (maybe focused on his phone) and ran into my wife's Acura TL head-on allowing it to roll back into my car. Nobody was in our vehicles since it was around 4:30am when the accident occurred.
USAA claimed that my wife's vehicle was a total loss after we had invested in brand new parts (front bumper, grille, engine, radiator) that all ended up being damaged at the time of the accident. They offered her only $1,500 cash to repair. Right now, my wife has no car to get to work and USAA did not want to compensate enough to fully repair her car or for a new car. We are still getting the run-around with USAA because of the customer service reps do not know how to take down proper notes and communicating it with other employees. We still don't know what we are to do with her car since she was only given $1,500 which is not enough to repair it or buy a new car. Thanks, USAA.

I will not use any type of service with this institution and whoever is reading this please save your time and have another trusted bank or insurance company take care of your needs. I opened a USAA claim and they drag the process out for 4 months. In the end, they said the other party changed their story and that I had the option to accept $500 immediately from State Farm, or take the case to arbitration to recover the full amount. I asked clearly if taking the case to arbitration had any risks of losing the $500 and they assured me that I would get at least 50% of the repair cost, but they were confident they could get the full amount from State Farm. They said they would keep me informed.
Well, USAA never contacted me after several months and when they finally responded to my e-mail, they said the arbitration ruling was that no one was at fault and I would have to cover the full repair cost. They said taking the case to arbitration carries the risk of losing the case, which is completely opposite of what they told me in our recorded conversations. I asked for a legal copy of the arbitration and they said they could not provide it for legal reasons, which I don't believe is true. I after a few years of not making a claim I started having bad luck and got in to a few accidents and they decided to terminate me because of too many claims. 5 no fault, 1 fault and 1 vandalism claim. They closed my checking, saving account without notice, took my money from my accounts for months, canceled my credit cards, they treated me like a criminal. That's how they really treat veterans. They literally kicked me out like a dog. I was amazed by how I was treated. When I started shopping for insurance I was getting quotes for 4X more what I paid with them. Save your time and go with Geico or Progressive. And the limit for a rental is 30$, I couldn't even rent a smart car with that in NYC!

They want you on their website and phone app but both provide terrible log in experience. No bill reminders only bills past due, then when you attempt to log in to pay you can't get past all the site passwords, user ID's and passcodes and user identification where sooner or later one mistake and you failed. Request new passcodes, user ID's, passwords. They don't like my phone number or SS number either!

Worthless Claims Service and Adjusters. Leaving USAA after 41 years. Last year I had two Michigan potholes destroy 2 wheels, 3 tires and 1 rocker arm. My damage? Over $3800. USAA payout? $238. They split incidents and negated some parts.

You know why you never see ads for Corvettes? They sell. When you see a commercial, the company is trying to make up for a shortfall. Enter USAA. The run commercials trying to sell us on their support for Veterans. They have ripped me off on a tree falling on a fence for homeowners and now are giving me $81 for a $1,200 claim, (my dogs knocked my old Honda into my car). They are unresponsive, over-promise and under-deliver and are a disgrace to the USA in USAA. Stay away, you've been warned and carry on!

USAA was at one time the absolute pinnacle of customer service. That time has passed. For the past year USAA has removed the ability to email questions to customer service. The only remaining options are calling during business hours, (not really an option when you're stationed on the far side of the planet) or chatting with USAA's already obsolete version of an AI Chatbot. No live humans available to write to or to answer your question. Nothing is worse than a company claiming to be dedicated to serving the troops but that won't let those troops write to human beings. This is not the USAA I have relied on all these years. Ally Bank is a much better option at this point as far as an online bank that focuses on true customer service.

We first received an auto policy in Jan 2019 and everything seemed great. Taking the limited tort option required me to sign a release. After sending it back 2 times, they state they never received it. Also made a dedicated phone call to add roadside assistance and they ignored me completely, never added the auto club program. Of course I had 2 flat tires 2 weeks later and when I called they had no recollection and of course the phone was never recorded.
This company is very disorganized and 1 person to the next has no idea what is going on. A lot is desired of this company and I would not recommend you take insurance with USAA unless you write names, times and events to cover yourself like as I did not do. I have been with a dozen auto insurance companies in my lifetime and I have never had this great difficulty. I contacted the executive branch of USAA and all he could do was stumble around and seemed very vague and confused, thereby confusing me with his jargon. My recommendation is to stay far from USAA until they can manage to streamline their procedures.

USAA overcharges their consumers too much. Example, for house insurance, it was $2,000 for me and I got the same deal from All State for $600. Auto insurance? $800 when I got a $400 deal. Mortgage? 3.75% interest when I could have gotten 3.25% or less elsewhere. Cashback for credit cards? I get 2% from Citi or 5% from Discover. Savings Account? It was just a lousy 0.03% or something when I get 2.35% from PNC.
Membership cashback? USAA barely recorded any of my transactions and turned my dispute claim down for a Holiday Inn stay when I fully knew I went through USAA discount website. Their cashback rewards are laughable when compared to Ebates. I'm done with USAA for life because I know they are all about high profit margins, yet they have been sued and fined lately for poor consumer practices (You can Google all about it).

USAA denied a full coverage claim regarding a windshield replacement. I proved to them via their own documentation that I was fully covered and they refused to honor the claim without a reason. The claims department admitted over the phone they do not understand Effective and End policy dates. They said they have to follow what the "system" say. I escalated to a manger and they also said they do not understand policy dates. I've since canceled my auto policy and moved to State Farm with a much lower premium and more coverage. They also failed to cancel a property policy, because they "couldn't find it" and only saw a bill for renewal. This was more than confusing and they were not willing to explain what happened. I highly recommend avoiding USAA for any insurance needs.

Pray that you never get into an accident with someone who is covered under USAA. I was in an accident a week ago with one of their drivers and the experience since then has been AWFUL. The other driver that is insured with USAA received a ticket for being at fault for the accident and it also states that she was at fault in the police report AND she had a stop sign and pulled out into oncoming traffic, yet USAA is trying told hold me majority liable for the accident. So now this is going to go through arbitration which is going to take months.
So I have to come out of pocket to pay my deductible to fix my car and I have to pay for a rental car because THEIR driver didn't stay stopped at her stop sign like she is legally obliged to do. VERY VERY upset and will make sure everyone I know is aware of how how terrible USAA treats people. So I guess these days a police report and a citation makes no difference because their member can just lie on the statement and get away with not being at fault.

Hail damage from April 13 hail storm (tennis ball sized hail). So it takes 10 days for USAA to send a claims adjuster out to see my truck. The adjust looks at my truck on the day we have worst weather. And a week after that I receive an email from USAA that my payment was canceled, AND the damage from the hail was prior damage! Wow. What am I paying them for? If this doesn’t get fixed ASAP. After 10 years of being with USAA, I am choosing Geico.

In December I was hit by a USAA member (crossed three lanes of traffic and side swiped my car). Took them over a month to send me a letter (even though I made sure to trade all information at the scene including contact phone number) stating I hadn't contacted them and needed to do so in regards to the accident. After speaking with them and giving the information I was told that it shouldn't be an issue and they would work with my insurance in order to get everything taken care of since it was their driver at fault. Here it is over 5 months later and I get a letter from my insurance that they are still trying to get the compensation from them. Thankfully I used my insurance to get my car fixed or I would still be without one, at least now I am just out my deductible thanks to horrible insurance companies.

I've been a member since 1968 and have seen a steady increase in cost with no improvement in service. Through the years I've trusted USAA and been pleased with them until recently. I finally decided to get quotes from three other companies and found that USAA was more than double the cost of all of the others in spite of the member annual refund.

USAA is by far the worst company I have ever had the displeasure to work with. I was involved in an accident with a USAA policyholder and USAA said I (!!!) was at fault despite the police report with their policyholder admitting fault. USAA ignored all inquiries - phone calls, emails, faxes and even a handwritten letter. Ultimately had to file complaints with my state's Department of Business Regulations and the Better Business Bureau to even prompt any type of communication from USAA. Then USAA had the audacity to drag this through arbitration. Which was a total waste of time since the case was ruled against them. For anyone that has to deal with USAA from this side of things, be prepared for the long haul. Be persistent and use any resource that is available to you.

We have been with USAA for over 30 years and over the years the service seems to be on a major decline. I just found out that I am not covered when driving someone else's vehicle --- you have to file the claim with the insurance company of the owner even if YOU were driving the vehicle. This potentially drives THEIR rate up. They did say if there is a portion of the claim that the owner's insurance doesn't cover, they will pick up the remaining costs. Not a lot of comfort when you have to tell your friend, "yeah, I know your car was damaged while I was driving it, but you have to file a claim with YOUR insurance." I will definitely be insurance shopping in the next few days!
