They're not the cheapest but their service is great! Prompt and no hassle claims service. Associates are always courteous and no impediments to settle claims.
Updated review: Jan. 14, 2018
It looks like I was surprised and the settlement is about in line with the average of the values I found on my own. I was "bracing" myself for a really low ball settlement, but what is being offered does seem fair. "Not happy" that this whole thing had to happen, but at least I don't have to fight a low ball settlement. We're not all rich rock stars, so these things matter.

On 12/18/2017 an elderly, USAA insured gentleman ran a red light and hit my car. He got upset when I called the Boise PD; however, that is standard procedure and says right on my insurance card. There is a collision report and USAA claim#. USAA was quick in getting me a rental car; however, they must have known they were going to consider my car a "total loss", weeks ago (it's not a true total loss - a friend of mine who is a skilled auto body mechanic AND general auto mechanic said it is easily fixable and will do so for me). So, accident on 12/18/2017 and it is now 1/12/2018 and I've not been offered a settlement yet. I NEED to get my car fixed (by my friend). I cannot take the bus or walk EVERYWHERE.
This was also very, very bad timing for this to happen to me - I have been unemployed; I got interviews, and offer. I will need to have my car fixed (by my friend, hopefully). But what if I need to pay for the cost of the parts? Well, USAA is potentially putting not only a hardship on me, but making me vulnerable. And if it wasn't for my friend stepping up to fix car just for cost of aftermarket parts - where would USAA leave me???? I do not know what will happen next, but I have an average value of what I could have sold the car for in the condition it was in PRIOR to the accident. I obtained these values from: NADA, Craigslist, CarGurus, Auto Trader, and Kelly Blue Book. I understand there was the holidays, but this long delay is ridiculous. If they offer me a fair settlement, then fine. But if it is "lowball", then I will know they are dealing with me in bad faith.
I also took much time to take pictures and email USAA claims, all of the maintenance and repair receipts for this, very well taken care of, very good running and reliable TRANSPORTATION. What about diminished value, what about the vulnerable situation they are putting me in, future costs of having to re-register this vehicle with salvage title? I have seen many complaints against this company on here, and while I have not YET been offered a settlement, I'm "bracing myself" to be lowballed? Not sure what to do if that happens. I may need to report this to the Idaho Department of Insurance - if this is indeed in bad faith. Why are they taking so long? To their credit, the customer service representatives I've dealt with have been very nice. The original claims person where I was given his name and extension, has been... non-responsive and apparently very uncaring.

My husband son and I were in a three car auto accident on December 26 while returning home from Visiting family out of town. The accident was caused by someone hitting a van and then hitting us. My son and I were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. My car was a total loss. Every phone call to USAA has been initiated by us. Every phone call has been a fight to get information. We have yet to hear from the gentleman that is handling our medical bills and to see how we are doing, despite leaving several messages for him to contact us. It has been 15 days and they have not settled with the credit union on the car. They have taken the rental car back so I have no vehicle and cannot purchase a vehicle until it is settled. I only have one more thing to add, DO NOT BELIEVE THE FALSE COMMERCIALS THAT SAY THEY ARE THERE FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY! Do not purchase insurance with this company!!

USAA have no problem with a spouse setting up the account for insurance so they can get money, but when you as a spouse, who are on the insurance, want to take your own car off that insurance it is just not possible. When I asked about a $20 monthly insurance rate change, I was asked 4 questions that had no relation whatsoever to the problem at hand, so I chose to hang up. I cannot recommend an insurance company that will not allow both members access to remove services.

USAA is horrible, on the phone and for their coverage. 20 year customer had an accident that totaled my car. USAA not only never send an appraiser they are only offering 1/2 of the NADA value. I've never heard of such a thing. We pay for coverage to protect us and our investment. They don't believe that fair market is what they need to pay. Ridiculous.

I opened an account with USAA in September 2017. The process took an extremely long time because of errors in their website and app--eventually I had to call them and do the process manually over the phone. I deposited $25 into my checking account, the mandatory minimum, with the expectation to move my direct deposit into the account shortly. Sometime in October, with no warning or explanation (months later, I still haven't received any explanation from them), they closed the account. What happened to my $25? As far as I know, they still have it.

I had a minor fender bender on a car that is paid for, and USAA insists on declaring it a total loss. This creates a huge financial burden for me since I've had a limited work schedule for the past year. I tried to work with the argumentative young-sounding representative assigned to me, but he would not listen, and when I asked to speak to a supervisor he replied "that's not going to happen".
I have my car and home insured with USAA because I felt like they would take care of me. There is no personal contact, only emails and posted messages, and I have no voice. This forces me to buy a new car which I cannot afford to do. Repairing my car would create NO burden to USAA, but creates a huge burden for me. This makes no sense at all. Interestingly, my friend's piano teacher just backed into my parked car, and Allstate repaired this same area perfectly with no hassle at all... And the bill was only $200.00 less than the estimate USAA used to total my car! This is unbelievable.

I have never filed a complaint, but I feel obligated due to my experience with trying to use their insurance after an accident. I would deem them the VA of insurance for a reason. They were slow, unhelpful, provide zero value and had above and beyond horrible customer service. It was as they went out of their way to make sure I was stressed and upset during a troubling time and poured salt on the wounds. You do not really know a company until you have to use them and experience how they treat their customers, especially for an insurance company. They did not return voicemail or phone calls, they were quick to dismiss and made accusations in order to avoid paying for a claim.
You expect your insurance company to be empathetic, helpful, and make you whole when you experience a loss. Instead, USAA seems to cause further distress. On 11/3, I got in an accident and besides physical damage; there was nothing wrong with the car. On 11/6, my car started showing signs of overheating, in which I had my friend look at it and noticed the coolant was missing. I added coolant and some of it leaked out but it was still in the reservation, so I made an appointment to bring it in the shop and drove it home without any further issues. Next day, I bring it to the shop and they said the frame is bent and I need to bring it to a body shop. I immediately bring it to the body shop and they said I have a cracked radiator, I filed a claim, and two weeks later get my car back after about 6k of damages.
I drive it for about 2-weeks and now the oil light goes on. Again, I bring it immediately to the shop and they told me that I need to bring it to another shop, as there is engine issues. I bring it to another shop and they said that because of the accident the head gasket needs to be repaired. I call USAA and now they tell me that because I drove it originally when it was overheating, I caused the damage and I did not mitigate damage and they denied the claim. Why would they replace the radiator, frame, and all of the other stuff for around 6k, and now not cover it? The additional cost of repair is estimated to be between 3k-6k, which is why now they are telling me I did not mitigate the damage. How could I avoid the damage if the original shop did not even catch the damage? Am I expected to know more than a mechanic who missed this originally?
I went above and beyond what a reasonable person would do, I tried to avoid going through insurance, made appointments and brought it to shops immediate. I am extremely disappointed, the reps I have spoken too were all covering for each other and my perception was that they were working against me the whole time. This is not something you would want from a business. They went out of their way to make the whole process difficult, miserable and I am still without any resolution. I had to report them to Connecticut's Department of Insurance and file a grievance due to their bad will. I would recommend to all to avoid and that is why I am writing this review and will continue to be a detractor for all with USAA.

I have had 15 years of auto insurance through USAA... then one early Saturday afternoon I got rear ended and it was all over. My car was a new 2014 Mazda2. All I could afford with $14 per hour, and had little over 29k when in 04/16 I founded out it was worth $0. The insurer was fast on finding a place for repairing the vehicle, and even faster when it came down to omit the real damages. Only Caliber Collision contacted me to let me know the frame was compromised, and probably not worth the money spent in repairs. Needless to say USAA didn't protect my investment, nor my safety and deliberately mislead me. Obviously afterwards my quote went up from a $50 monthly premium to $250. Reason given was that exact same frame damage that made my car unsafe!! Long story short I ended up purchasing a new vehicle and voluntary surrendering the Mazda2 losing the $10k worth of payments... plus the 4k remaining balance.

I’ve been with the bank for 9 years and they haven’t helped me during any need! It’s a good bank to bank with but don’t expect to receive any help when you need it. I’ve applied for personal loans during emergency situations, and even applied for credit to help build up credit history and they’ve denied me for everyone due to insufficient credit history. I’ve even asked how am I suppose to build credit history if I can’t even depend on my bank of 9 years to approve me! I’d rather save and pay for everything with cash but sometimes emergency situations arise as to where I had to apply for a loan and USAA has not been there! I find it very offensive when they advertise these families on their commercials saying, USAA has been there every step of the way! I wish they would value all of their members enough to be there for us all especially during emergency situations!

My grandson's truck was totaled. He could not be found and even though I had paid the payments, license, and even his insurance, they were totally unresponsive to me. Neither they nor I could contact him. They put out a fraud case against me for trying to advance this claim which is still in their file although I have been with them 42 years. We hired a P.I. to find him and have him call them and give me power of attorney, which he did of course. They said they would pay me and I'd get back the three months’ premiums I'd paid after the wreck through my USAA credit card. The wreck was Sept. 9. It is Dec. 16 and the credits are still not on my account. I'm having to send them a copy of the notarized power of attorney again as it is not in their file even though they had it and they finally paid the totaled amount on the truck.
In the course of this I spent probably 20 hours on the phone with one day's phone time (including being hung up on 3 times and the interminable shifting from one department to another, waiting, and getting told to go back to the ones who had sent me there) being from 1 p.m. to 4:30. I have loved USAA and told them this many times, but we are now looking for another insurance company. It is time to realize that companies change under new leadership and the honest old guard is gone. When the last one I talked to threatened to hang up on me because I insisted that he call the department that has the record of the power of attorney, I realized that I had to leave USAA. My husband was an officer and if he and other young men refused service as they have refused me, our country would be no more.

If you are dual military and you sign up an account with USAA whoever's the first name on there is going to get the account in the end. They have a thing called a "subscribers account" that pays you for your time and accounts with them. During my divorce, my ex called and had me removed from the account, so I lost everything I paid into it for 19 YEARS!!! That bum didn't even have a job half the time we were married. I was the one who signed us up for the account, but his name put on first, why, because he is a male. I know for a fact I was the one who signed us up. But of course I asked for proof and they can't provide it. Why would I put him first if I always outranked him? Does that make sense.
The same thing happened in our house l own. And guess what they'll tell you it's not like it's money that you earned. I was dual military. Had an account for 19 years and she tells me that that money is not earned! I don't know where she's from but I earn every dollar that I make. USAA rates are higher than most insurance carriers and she had the gall to tell me that it's not earn money. I've had one accident since I've had USAA and it wasn't even my fault. And she has the gall to tell me that it's not money that I earned. I paid thousands into USAA Insurance, and because of my divorce I get nothing from that subscriber account. If you're smart you'll just stay far far away from USAA. Every time I've had to deal with them over something I always end up getting screwed. This is the last straw for me.

USAA is trying to only pay 6,000 for Partial roof replacement from storm damage. Of the eight or nine quotes we received to repair the roof none of them was less than $12,000 for the repair. Those who would repair it on a partial replacement basis would not guarantee the roof And yet USAA still refuses to pay for a complete roof replacement.
My 2012 Toyota Tundra was totaled in a head on collision. The cost of this Toyota Tundra with custom parts factory install for SEMA show in Las Vegas with $65,000. USAA only paid me $47,000 replacement cost for the truck even though I had documentation and paperwork showing that all of the additional add on parts, custom bumpers, custom winch, custom light part, custom running boards, custom bed liner and everything else was factory installed by Toyota not aftermarket had it on by the customer yet USAA refuse to pay for replacement cost of all these items. I am a USAA customer. I just spent an hour and 20 minutes trying to get hold of a manager. The issues I needed to discuss are problems but at this point secondary. The headline here is that they would not put me in contact with a manager. After many dropped calls, after long waits and irresponsible voicemail trees that are especially painful if you have to endure multiple times and your issue is not cookie cutter. I finally got the answer that one will call me today or tomorrow. I will be leaving this company. In my opinion, they are just to hard to deal with. Taking care of vets was just advertising stuff and is certainly not my experience.

And we have auto, bank and homeowners insurance with them. Our home and auto constantly goes up even though we have never put a homeowners claim. Had to put a claim because my car was total when I got rear ended. And they screw me on the claim by not paying for the whole amount cover. So now I'm out of a car and still have to pay $2,380.00 out of pocket to the lien holder bank. Even though I have full coverage on the car I only had for 1 year. So we’re currently looking for a new bank, Home and car insurance company. They used to be good, but this days they're just a joke. Don’t waste your time or money with this thieves.

She never even returned a phone call until I talk to a supervisor. As far as banking they are so uncaring. I am not sure what I paid for total loss protection from the bank for as they are refusing to pay off the loan unless I make loan payments until they deem it approved. I'm very satisfied with this company. I have three vehicles and my house insured with this company and only became aware I was eligible 15 years ago. I formerly was with Nationwide and State Farm. With USAA the rates aren't always changing and seem to be the lowest. The people are pleasant and helpful when you call even if something happens when traveling out of state. It's very easy to file a claim and claims are settled fast. It is easy to make payments and make claims over the phone and the service is always very good. Sometimes they send me a membership check. My last claim was for an accident where I was at fault but my view was obstructed by a passenger. The adjuster gave me good advice and was very helpful. They told me the truck was repairable but USAA didn't want to pay the $14,000 estimate and declared it a Total Loss. USAA later called me. They will give me 15K for my truck. I told them I paid $ 25K for the Silverado Truck financed and send them the bill of sale, but basically told me, "Too bad. That's what the Appraiser thinks is the value of the vehicle." I told them that I will be with no vehicle and 10 grand on debt and walking!
I look into Black book car reports, the car dealer who sold me the truck and on average the fair value of the truck is 23K and many other websites with similar vehicles. After many, many unanswered calls, emails, faxes, voice messages to San Antonio TX. I was able to get $ 2,000 more for the appraisal of my truck up to 17.5 K. I told them that I have the right to get another estimate from another body shop so I can save my truck. Got an estimate for almost $5,000 less to repair it and the shop assure me the truck can be totally repaired and safe so I can keep it, after reviewing the new estimate USAA still say is a total loss.
I'm still driving the beat up truck out of necessity, it's my source of income. It's been almost 2 months. We have been USAA members for over 20 years. Recently we reported a claim after my car hatchback stopped working following Hurricane Irma. We did not have flooding in my area... Just think it was some rain that got in the system but we don't know since we have been waiting for an adjuster. After calling in the issue, we get a call from USAA stating our car is a total loss due to flooding??? We explained there was no flooding but they read a report to us that referenced standing water and all kinds of craziness. It was as if they made up a story and put it in our file. Well, we pushed back and was told that an adjuster would contact us to come out. After waiting over a month, we called back and was again told our car was a total loss, they thought. The same fictional story was in our file. Again, we pushed back and again we were told an adjuster would come out.
In the interim I checked our auto policy and my car wasn't listed. Called USAA and, guess what? The same fictional story was once again read to us. The person apologized, added the car back to our insurance and confirmed that an adjuster would be out in a few days. Today we call to get the adjuster's contact info and yet again, told that our car was deemed a total loss based on that darned fictional story and we would not have an adjuster out to look at it. Is it easier for them to make up damage than fix a car? My deductible will probably cover most of the repairs anyway! This is a nightmare! After over 20 years with them, the auto claims process is making us reconsider. Whoever is over the homeowner's policies needs to help them out in auto claims. Should I seek out an attorney for something that should be so simple?

And I called 22Nov, yesterday: this woman had the nerve to tell me that everybody was leaving early because of Thanksgiving...which is TOMORROW. I called at 230pm! Customer Service is a joke, and the Managers are absolute clowns. I am so glad I was calling to cancel (yet again, because they lied to me and didn't do it right the first time a year ago), because I honestly don't have the patience or good conscience to actually be paying for this crappy customer service. When I call I always press the button to complete a customer-service survey after the call, and I have never once gotten to do one (wow, I wonder why). USAA needs to go out of business. They don't even have a 24/7 customer service number...what a joke!

I'm a USAA "member" and was in a auto accident (other driver's fault - he received a citation) with a driver with USAA auto insurance. After four days I was not contacted by USAA insurance. I contacted them and was treated as though I caused the accident. The person I spoke with said that no fault had been assigned. Really? I was there and the officer on the scene said that a ticket was given to the other driver. Waiting days for the insurance company to contact me is unacceptable but the USAA customer experience is really the unacceptable part of it!

USAA was also quick to respond and send an adjuster who made sure we understood the entire process and provided a prompt response to all of our questions. We have been a client of USAA for over thirty years and have been pleased throughout our relationship. USAA has always provided prompt and professional service.

I have nothing from them - no offer of a rental car - nothing while I wait. I have called twice today and no callback. What is the world coming to? This is just not acceptable.

I was in an accident almost a month ago with someone covered by USAA. I also have USAA, so I thought that might make the process easier. I was wrong. I have read a few people's reviews on here, and my story isn't as bad as others I have read, but I'm definitely on the same side as them. The other person involved in the accident pulled out in front of me while I was going 45-50 mph. I tried to slam on brakes and swerve around her, but there was nothing I could do and I slammed into her. My car was totaled. You could tell just by looking at it. So we had it towed and that night I called USAA. The other girl had filed her claim online, but had not spoken to anyone yet. So I gave my statement, was assigned my own claim's adjuster, Danielle, and was told that I would hear from her either the next day (Saturday) or Monday. Well, Monday and Tuesday came and went with no call.
On Wednesday, I decided to call her extension only to find she was not in the office until the next day. I assumed that meant no one had even looked at my claim. So I called back to the main line and found out I was correct. No one had contacted the other girl to get her statement saying she was liable and that I would not be able to get a rental or any bills covered until then. I was very upset, but tried to stay cool. The next day I finally got a call from Danielle saying the other person was liable and that they would be taking my car from the towing company that day and that I could go get my rental tonight. Well, the rental had to wait until the next morning, but that was fine. Four days later, I get a call from USAA asking if I would go and release my car from the towing company as they had been trying to get it for a while, but the company wouldn't give it to them. Now, this was my first accident, I had no idea how any of this worked.
So I was angry, talking about how I was told my car had been taken four days ago to determine if it was a total loss or not. I asked why no one had called me the first day to have me release my car? They had no reason to give me except a bunch of apologies. Finally I got it released and USAA waited until the next day to move it to their lot. Another four days later, I called them and finally got an answer (mind you, I had called Danielle's extension many times and never reached her) that my car was totaled, but that they still had to get the figures. The next day, I received a call saying they had the figures and that they would pay off my totaled car then, and they would send me the rest via direct deposit that day. All I had to do was sign some papers and email them back. Then they realized my car had been moved to another state in all this mess and they had to change the paperwork.
Now they had to mail me a copy, have me sign it and get it notarized before mailing it back. What they didn't mention (again, my first accident, so I'm not aware how any of this works) was that those papers had to be signed, sent back, and processed before I was sent the money for a new car. I did not find that part out until today. That was my final straw. I was told that they will not extend my rental (that has to go in in two days) and that the money will probably not be in my account until next week. So, even though I wasn't at fault and I had to go a week without a car to drive just after the accident, I will now have to go another week without a car. I was able to find rides to work the first week, but now I'll have to do that all over again.
And I also injured my knee in the accident. I have gone to a doctor and had x-rays. I'm very nervous now that I won't be getting anything from that either. I'm very much considering getting a lawyer at this point. I've only been with USAA for a few months, but after all of this is done, I will be moving back to GEICO. Their service wasn't the greatest or the cheapest, but at least they would get things done in a timely manner for us. USAA does NOT care for its customers at all.

Someone ran into the back of me on Halloween 2017 while I was sitting at a red light. The driver was on his cell phone and he stated that when he looked up he had no time to stop. When he hit me, I hit the person in front of me, causing the person in front of me to have minor damage. My car and the driver car was damage badly. He hit me so hard to the point where I could see everything up under the hood without popping the hood open... Of course my back bumper is messed up and the right passenger door will not open. I was driving my 2006 two door Honda Civic lx that my parents bought for me as a high school graduation present... C/o 2006. Everyone involved in the accident had a policy w/ USAA... What a coincidence.
I called them the next day to get a rental car but was told that I needed a police report to make sure that the other person was at fault because I didn't have collision insurance or rental on my policy... (Duh the car is too old for that). I had to pay for the police report & email it to them because they stated it would be quicker that way, however they said they that they would reimburse me. They got the police report that reported the other person was at fault but they said that they had to get in contact w/ the other person to get his side of the story. Though I was mad because I didn’t have a car to drive I decided to be patient...
I called them on the 2nd to see if they followed up w/ the other person but the person in charged of my claim did not update the system w/ the information from the police report. Mind you that I sent him the report while on the phone w/ him. They updated the system & said that they would have to contact the other driver before issuing a rental or deal w/ the car. So ok, I called back on the 6th to give them time, they said that they have not gotten in touch w/ the driver but I can rent a car & they will reimburse me once the claim is closed. Also they informed me that I need to get the car out of impound & move it to my house so that it would not continue to occur fees.
They said they would reimburse me but I didn’t have the money to do that plus I didn’t understand why they couldn’t because it wasn’t my fault. Today, 8 days later, I call them to follow up... (They have not reached out to me yet) I was told that they cannot help me until they talk w/ the other driver & that they will have to give him 30 days to respond before they do anything about it... I’m highly upset & confused. The person that caused the accident also has an active policy w/ USAA but they can’t do anything until they speak w/ the person.
I have a police report stating that he was at fault & he received two traffic tickets. Though I have to be without a car and my car most likely will be totaled because the amount of damage... I’m so frustrated... I’m a single parent & I have no transportation for us. It’s been hard for me to get my child back & forth to school & me to work. All because some idiot is afraid to answer the phone & this insurance w/ some STUPID ** policies. I’ve been dealing with this company for years & even dealt w/ the sudden policy increases the last few years. Ugh..??

I received a call from this guy saying he is investigating my claim. He then said he was going to record and if that was ok. Sure nothing to hide. Long story short I received another call from claims saying that I did it because I had no explanation why paint would still be on the vehicle after I drove it to the body shop. Then he said the body shop must have done it.
But they are still taking my money for insurance on both my cars and house plus now I am receiving mail from them for my life and medical insurance that they want me to bring over. They told me to take my truck to their body shop. My wife and I drove to their shop and the place you couldnt get in so I took it to another shop and they denied everything. They can kiss my **. I never had a claim with them. Funny thing they never met me and I am 100% disabled.

My experience with USAA has been a nightmare since they claimed my car a total loss. Like many here they didn't have all the options listed on the first report and even had the settlement wrong because they? minus the deductible. After the report was sent I was told, "Sign this and the rental will only be covered for 7 more days." I told her fine because I would not be signing anything and that I would take the rental back because thankfully we have other vehicles to drive. When I called back have the next representative the options she came back with a better settlement but once I looked over that it's still things missing I have sent them that now waiting on a reply.
As with many here I think that USAA has acted in bad faith and is causing me unnecessary stress and anxiety that didn't have to be if they would just do their job the right way their first time. I have told the representative that I think they are doing as least as possible to save as much money as they can but I (we) still have to pay and if we don't be our own advocate then they will just continue to treat us as customers the same way. I don't know what other actions could cause this behavior to stop because I see the same pattern over and over in this thread besides suing. Like many I thought they would treat us as veterans better but in the last month going on two and after reading this thread I see that was a terrible assumption. That's why I up at 3 in the morning researching because I refuse to be mistreated.

A copy of my Social Security Card, my Driver's License, a copy of my father's military records. And so many other documents. And then Laura called and claimed that my account was unlocked and I could get the checking and savings accounts. Until my father sent in a copy of his Social Security Card.
I called back and spoke with another Rep and she told me that the fraud department reversed the decision and did not want to open my account. And I was told by the CEO's office that everything was good by Laura. I'm highly upset. And this is very unprofessional. And I will continue to dispute this until I get my account opened as I was promised. After I submitted all the documentation. There is no reason that they have banned my account. A couple weeks ago I was T-Boned by a USAA-insured driver, who was at fault. In an attempt to file a claim with USAA, I spoke with a representative named Chris. I explained the situation to the best of my ability and remained on hold until a statement was obtained from the other party. In returning to my call, the representative indicated that the other party's story differed from the one I presented (as is to be expected from someone who does not wish to claim responsibility). I then further explained my view only to be deemed a "liar," and that, my version, as described, would be "impossible." Needless to say, the representative abruptly ended our conversation and expressed minimal desire to understand the reality of the situation.
I am surprised that USAA, a company that should be expected to uphold decent values and seek justice, would employ individuals that exhibit such crass and dismissive behavior. I understand wanting to take the side of your client, but to outright accuse an individual of lying is insulting and just plain unacceptable. I hope that I will never need to deal with this company again.

When I married (an active duty member) we both opened our own accounts with USAA and were very happy for years with the service provided. Customer service was always exceptional! Over the last 6 years there has been a decline in the service that is provided. Rude representatives and poor communication between the departments (homeowner’s insurance, flood insurance, mortgage, auto, etc.) makes it horribly frustrating to get questions answered or just get the product correct.
Correcting auto insurance was a 5 month issue and trying to get the sale of a home recorded and reported to the correct parties took almost a year. I stayed at a hotel in San Antonio, TX a couple of years ago and while having breakfast I sat and listened to customer service representative trainees complain about their job and the training. I was sad that I would possibly have to deal with these unhappy rude people at some point. I continue to shop insurance (local level) looking for the personal attention USAA once provided.

A liability insurance claim was filed July 2017, pertaining to an incident in which I was operating a borrowed a 2017 Ford Transit 350 from a private party, who had insurance on the vehicle. The claim adjuster, Sonia, contacted me and was given my statement of the details surrounding the incident. She stated that it might not be covered under my policy, due to the vehicle being considered a Rented Moving Van. I informed her that the vehicle is not rented, and that it was merely borrowed by me, from the private party. Therefore, I should be covered under my liability insurance due to me operating a borrowed vehicle from a private party, not by a money exchange for rental. She stated she understands my point and would look into it.
On August 9, 2017, I received a letter from private party insurance company stating my insurance company, USAA, had not responded to their requests for information. And stated I am therefore being notified of possible pending litigation in relation to the damage sustained in incident in July 2017. I immediately contacted USAA and notified them of development and they told me they had been in contact with private party insurance company and to not worry about the letter I received.
On October 27, 2017, I received a letter from USAA stating they are denying the liability claim for damage sustained from a July 2017 incident. I called USAA, and requested explanation of denial and why I had not been notified sooner. They repeatedly referred to the vehicle as a Penske moving truck, and that moving trucks are not covered, even though I was the operator. They stated that I am not covered to drive moving truck under my policy. I disagreed with them, and asked them if I was covered while operating a borrowed vehicle, and they responded only if it is less than 2000 lbs. They stated that they did not contact me due to them waiting on final estimate from private party insurance company before denying the claim. USAA had no reasonable explanation for my denial of claim and for the lack of notifications of updates on the claim over almost 3 months.
I am extremely disappointed and disgusted with USAA over the lack of communication and customer service rendered during this experience. I have been a member of USAA over 20 years, and am sad to say that they were not professional or courteous during this situation. I am therefore going to cancel my insurance with USAA soon, and do not recommend USAA for your insurance needs.

I don't understand for the life of me what's funny about that. I could have killed myself or someone else on the road. This really upsets me.
According to him, he has not read the medical records from the emergency room, my primary care physician or the neurologist. So again why is this funny - I reported him to his supervisor with very little success - she came on the phone and couldn't understand why I was upset. The higher I escalated the situation the worst the customer service became. No one has yet to apologize for the bad behavior - The best they could do was give me to another adjuster.

My wife and I were hit by an uninsured motorist. Our policy has medical, uninsured and underinsured coverage. Wife had severe head trauma, I had a concussion and what is commonly referred to as whiplash. USAAs response was to delay the medical payments more than 6 months after the accident for both of us. In the meantime, I lost my job because I couldn’t function due to the severe pain I was in. Then while “investigating” my claim for medical payments, they undermined my payment arrangement with the hospital. The final bill with the hospital for the emergency room service was more than $3,000 higher than what they had agreed to prior to USSAs interference.
To add insult to injury, the claims adjuster told my lawyer that because I was “old” (her word), I would have eventually had “those problems anyway”. AND made a settlement offer that was half what the actual medical bills were much less the job loss. This was wrong on so many levels and probably untrue, by my doctor's assessment, that the damaged vertebrae (from the accident) would not have caused the pain I’m in to this day. As soon as my insurance claim is finished, which it has now been more than a year, I intend to file suit against them for breach of contract (there is another term for it that the lawyer used, but I don’t remember it).
The lawyer said that case law is abundantly on our side. I don’t care if I even get anything out of it now, as long as it ends up costing them millions for settlements and the need to pour money into advertising to repair their image. Maybe we all should get together and make it a class action. The only way they will stop doing this to veterans and taking advantage of us is if we speak out against them and tell our stories!!! How many people in the general public know the meaning of USAA. As patriotic as we are, we cling to anything with the Acronym USA. The Acronym USAA means United Service Automobile Association. So the Acronym USAA branded on TV ads nationwide or even internationally creates the perception that the United Service Automobile Association (USAA) is really dedicated to the service of veterans.
Based on my own experience with the company as a customer and my service to the United States Armed Services, as well as my Son's service to the United States Armed Services; and the complaints of many others who have varying complaints with some similarities to my experience. USAA is none other than a heartless monster of a company. If life happens and you find yourself not matching what their computer say... they are not competent to provide intelligent service to us human beings because our actions as human beings must at all times follow the dictates of their computers (The System).
Even if an individual rep would be inclined to utter intelligent communication; my advice is for you to take no comfort in those words because their computer intelligence is not in line with human intelligence; and the computer (the system) will generate instructions contrary to any instructions the intelligent low-level employee provides, because only the computer can provide instructions to human beings. It is a shame and absurd that USAA has grown on the backs of Military men and women, yet has no sensitivity toward them. They hire the brightest idiots from the best Universities around the United States to establish policies and procedures and to develop an incompetent mechanical workforce (culture) run by computers (the system) which cannot relate to the public it serves.
I will bet that 95% of these idiots have never gone hungry one day in their lives; have never served in the United States Armed Forces, have always known how all of their bills will be paid... and so on. As I write this, my insurance is still in force, but I have spent months back and forth and even had a belligerent representative tell me that USAA is not the company for me - in spite of the fact that the company collects my premium in advance, and because (the system) said I must pay the premium in full for the entire term.
My complaint here is based on many months of back and forth conversation some of which appeared good, others nasty and overall insensitive. In addition they appear to write notes slanted in their favor to build a case against unfavored customers that the system begins to reject when payments are not perfectly aligned with (the system's) generated numbers even when you are paying in advance based on a 5-month plan to pay off their 6-month plan early. Don't get it!
Please Note the Attachment - There are three cars on it. Only two cars should have been included because they instructed me that because my son purchased his own car he could no longer be carried under my insurance. I followed through immediately to have my son obtain his own insurance which he did with an effective date of 9/13/2017. So as of 9/13/2017 my auto insurance bill should have reduced. My policy renewed on 9/16/2017; and so far 2 payments based on a 5 pay period (personal budget plan) has been paid toward a 6 pay period USAA plan. So why are they insisting on full payment and sending me cancellation letters when I am paid up in advance to date?

Paul began to be very disrespectful as I was trying to explain that I should coverage for uninsured motorist with a $250 deductible and rental reimbursement with a chat from 6/16 to prove it but he would not listen to me.
He then yelled "I will not argue with you, and I'm hanging up on you" and then hung up on me. I called right back and George ** started to help me with my claim, and was able to help me within 10 minutes. He listened to me cry about Paul hanging up on me, and was still willing to help me figure out how to get a rental car right away so I could leave the shop since I had been there for 2 1/2 hours. George had me send an email of the previous chat on 6/16 to prove the requested coverage that was never added. He was able to get me a rental car, and said he would make sure I would have the correct coverage. Since then I have asked for a manager to call me, but have yet to receive one. I have been a USAA policy holder for 12 years, and have never made a claim until now. Until George helped me it was the WORST experience I have ever had, and I will be changing insurance companies as soon as my car is fixed.

Over a month ago I was hit by a member of USAA. From the very start I had issues. The customer service knowledge is totally lacking, and they continuously told me to contact my insurance. Their member who hit me admitted full guilt, as I was rear ended. Once I was finally assigned a claims agent she was never in contact with me, even though I left multiple messages. Once my husband threatened to call a lawyer we got a response and they were sending an assessor out. She claimed the car was undrivable.
My husband called back and was set up with a rental, told a check was being issued that day, and to then pursue getting the car fixed. Two weeks later, no check. Then we get a call to return the rental car, leaving us with one car and two working parents. Customer service was zero help and refused to put on a manager, claiming that's "not their protocol". Now we're at a standstill. No car, no check, no rental car. This company is by far the worst I've ever dealt with. They are all lazy morons that need to be fired.

My husband is a disable veteran. We had all our accounts through BB&T previously. My hubby decided that we should switch to USAA. All was well until someone stole my husband information and made up to 400 dollars in fraudulent charges to our account. USAA sided with the fraudulent merchant because they said whomever made the charges knew our email address. Our income taxes was also stolen and IRS did an investigation and realized it was not my husband and I. We live in Atlanta and someone living in Florida did this. I will never put any more money in USAA. Consumers and veterans beware they won't protect your money.

I won't bore you with all the suffering details, so, in a nutshell... slow and communicably challenged!! Good luck trying to contact them directly (via phone) when dealing with a claim. I'd say 99% of their communication is done through their email center, and my experience has been a hit or miss (mostly miss) proposition since my message seems to travel through a labyrinth of channels/agents and rarely will get directly to the agent in charge. To make things even more convoluted, they farm out much of the actual claim work to a 3rd party, so, instead of just going from A to B you have to go from A to B to C... not very efficient/timely/seamless for the policyholder.

This accident has ruined my life. I did hair for 29 years, I haven't worked since the day before the accident. I hurt my jaw, my neck, my thoracic spine, and my back. I've had jaw surgery, 2 neck surgeries, plus I'm getting thoracic and neck surgery on November 7th. I need back surgery. I've spent a year and a half in bed. The pain is so terrible. I take 80 mg of ** a day, and live on muscle relaxers, I can't drive because of my medicine.
The driver had $300k worth of coverage. The most USAA will offer me is $100k. USAA is trying to wiggle out of their claim, because I had a pre-existing neck surgery. I was fine, I worked full-time lead a perfectly normal life. I have a lot more injuries besides my neck. My medical bills are already over $180k, my Attorney fees are over $100k. I can never do hair again, my life will never be the same. I had a 780 FICO score now. I'm claiming bankruptcy. My husband had to take a higher paying job 400 miles away to help with bills. I have been with USAA for over 20 years now. I had an accident over a month ago with another USAA insured motorist at a gas station. The driver of a large SUV, with a trailer wide enough to fit another large vehicle, drove through the pumping area, with his trailer catching my driver side, nearly pulling my door off. My car door was already open when the back of the trailer caught it. There were several witnesses including the Mgr and employees at the location. The other insured also agreed that it was his fault. I know this, because we both called USAA at the same time and I heard him. I gathered two of the witnesses’ phone numbers and information, which I forwarded to USAA.
When I called a few days later to check the status of the claim, Mr. Dan ** with the USAA Claims Dept advised me that his client is 100% at fault. When I asked why, he then quoted some Texas law or regulation about opening your door to on-coming traffic. I said, "I didn't open my door, it was already opened. Even the driver admitted it.” He then said that it was he, Daniel **, that felt that he was not at fault. After I said, "Well what do I need to do? Do I need to get a lawyer?" He rudely told me to do what I wanted because his party is not accepting liability. I then had to get my own adjuster from USAA, since I filed the claim against the other driver (as he was at fault) and not my policy.
It has been over a month now, and since the 2 adjusters could not come to a conclusion they had to forward it to the Mgr, and that's where it's been sitting for over a week now. Meanwhile, I'm left to pay a deductible. I'm not rich and this is causing me a financial hardship. I am so disappointed with USAA and even after being with them so long, I think after they finally finish with this claim, no matter what the determination is, I have to go. I can't comprehend how I have been a member for this long, never missing payments and this what I get in return.

They certainly dont fail to ask me if I need extra coverage when it comes to my home insurance. 18 yrs with USAA, driving for 28 yrs with no accidents or claims. I will be very unhappy if this is not paid the full amount that it is worth. I will certainly share with all members, and I will certainly drop USAA. USAA is unconscionably slow. Now I demand to be made whole, even if I have to go to court trial. I was hit by a USAA insured who admitted fault. I don't want to bother my insurance company. I only am dealing with USAA because it was USAA's insured party's fault. So, I am a third party claimant. USAA left me a voicemail. I spent two solid weeks returning the call and leaving voicemail message after voicemail message. No human ever picked up. I never got any communication.
Now, my body shop is demanding $35/day storage fee, which I can't afford. USAA never looked at the car. I sold the car to junk Cars R Us and they are towing it away and giving me a $120 check. For a luxury V-8 sedan, which basically had its front end smashed in by the insured. I would have been happy to let it be repaired and that be the end of it.
Now, I demand a comparable new car, plus all my other rights under the law, including medical, time off work, and pain and suffering. I only have soft tissue injury, so no lawyer wants to take my case. I have to do it myself. But I will do it. Personal Injury suits are no mystery now, with full internet access. So now I am demanding my full rights under the law to be made whole, including pain and suffering. I mean, the CEO of USAA makes over 5 million dollars a year salary. It is against public policy, against law, and unconscionable for USAA to treat me like yesterday's news. I've been a loyal member of USAA over the past decade. I've always had my auto insurance payments automatically withdrawn and never thought to check for an increase, seeing as how USAA has/had the history of "supporting the troops". My insurance policy gradually increased over ten years until the point where I shopped around for a cheaper rate. I spoke with representatives on 3 occasions to gain understanding on the price spike. On the first 2 occasions, I was informed that my policy would cover my vehicles from the 15th of the previous month until the 15th of the current month and they were pretty nonchalant to my lack of understanding about the price spikes.
On the 14th of the month I decided to cancel my policy and suddenly the 3rd person is concerned. They tweaked my policy, but still didn't meet or beat my new policy with a different insurer. After about an hour on the phone, the representative realized I was at the point of no return. That's when he informed me that I owed $125 because I was given false information about being covered until the 15th when in actuality I was covered until the 27th. Therefore, I could've waited until the 27th of the month to start my new policy and save $125. After over a decade with one minor accident, they wouldn't work with me to resolve the misinformation.

So even though I had called twice for insurance needs, NEITHER was completed and I was an UNCOVERED motorist and would have had to pay out of pocket. Luckily no incident occurred during that time.
Other issue: I was told as long as my 26' car hauler was attached to the vehicle it carried the same coverage as my vehicle. Called them to inform them the truck and trailer was to be left behind in Homestead during Hurricane IRMA with a reply of the trailer is not covered and it would only cover if it caused damage to another vehicle while attached to my truck. I had USAA insurance for a few years on my 2016 Kia Sorento, I recently found a company that offered me a much lower rate. So, I cancelled my USAA Auto Policy, it was costing me 94.00 a month, new policy with an additional driver is costing me 64.00 a month. I call USAA Insurance to cancel my new policy. They said ok and asked why when I called to cancel. The agent asked me to fax the new policy so she could do a 'side by side' comparison. I also asked the automatic draft be stopped. I was never called back so two days later I called again, cancel my policy, agent says I owed $12.49. I said I would pay it NOT to deduct it automatically. Guess what? They deducted it automatically anyway, causing my automatic auto payment to overdraft the account. Now I AM RESPONSIBLE for a $29.00 overdraft fee.
Bank tries to deduct the payment for my Kia again and ANOTHER $29.00 overdraft fee. All this because a $12.49 payment that I made myself was deducted AGAIN after I told them I would pay it and NOT to use auto pay. After my automobile loan is paid I will NEVER use this institution again. I am going to be on the phone with them yet again today. This is a mess that will takes WEEKS to correct, if ever corrected, all because the insurance agent did NOT stop the automatic payment. Now they have TWO $12.49 payments and keep telling me there is no problem. Meanwhile I have now a total of $58.00 in overdraft fees, all because the agent didn't listen. When I called them back & they quoted me their homeowners premium, I opted to not pursue any coverage w/them. It was then they informed that they’d already debited my credit card for the auto premium. WTF?
They did this almost immediately after my initial call. NTL, I requested cancellation -- my auto insurance w/SF remain in effect ‘til 8-7-17. Why would I need double coverage? They agreed & eventually returned my money; still, I keep getting threatening emails & notices from them requesting I re-submit payment. Today, I received a notice telling me that they were informed by my bank card not to release automatic payment to them. Ergo, they will start sending me statements in the mail. Oh… & they end their cute notice with… “Please pay upon receipt.” AGAIN… WTF? I’ve already continued my auto w/SF; & my homeowners as well as flood Ins are not due until… November. The other person that backed into my car had USAA insurance so my insurance told me to go and get an estimate because the lady that backed into my car might pay out of pocket so I go on Friday to get estimate. On my way to the body shop, my adjuster from US AAA insurance called me on the phone and said that she was setting up my plane. I told her I was on my way down to the body shop to get my estimate right now. She put in the request, set up the claim and got me the party pass for Rent-A-Car from enterprise and so then I'm assuming I'm all set there and I can make an appointment with my body shop to fix my car.
So I bring it into the shop, I pick up my rental car. They have it since Tuesday and now USAA is disputing the body shops right they only want to pay 75 instead of $95 an hour and they want to put aftermarket or used parts on my 2014 Honda Civic and they say that they can do that because the cars consider old after two years.
I told him no way I don't want aftermarket parts and they say it has to go into their department that investigates what the fair rate is for them to pay and I have to wait for a decision. They were supposed to come out a body shop back today and they did not. So when I called numerous representatives on up on me and told me that The Rent-A-Car was only paid for until tomorrow but I had a few options. One of them was to return the Rent-A-Car because they're not gonna pay for it anymore and have the auto shop out of my pocket until they get a decision from their company that could take 4 to 5 days. They're not sure how long it's gonna take to get a decision from their people and I told him no way I'm not gonna pay.
The body shop and at the body shop deserve to get paid when I pick up my car. The mind you the original Honda parts that I purchased for only $186 plus tax so they were disputing that small amount and they were disputing is a $95 rate and it wanted to only pay my shop $75 and then basically telling me I'm without a car until they make a decision. Terrible insurance company. I would never deal with them again and every time somebody hung up on me nobody would ever call me back. Even though the phone is disconnected or they hung up I heard what was going on and I have to start over again and get my claim number and give them the whole scenario of what is happened from the morning until 4 o'clock in the afternoon. I didn't have any results from US AAA.

When I was 1st rear ended by another car USAA said they would make me whole. I was in no way responsible for the accident. They sent me to an adjuster, who they then sent money to fix my car. Additional damage was found (all fixable) and less then the cost of totaling the car. USAA insists on totaling my car and will not budge. I cannot get another car in the same condition for what they are willing to give me. They do not take into account any of my equipment (new tires, brakes, trailer hitch, roof racks...) and they claim they don't have to look at my comparables, because they assume anyone selling a car on the island is making a profit! They are well under what my car would cost if I had sold it before the accident by at least $1000 to $2000. I'm fed up! I've been with them for over 20 years and this is the first claim!
I have been given several stories, by several representatives, and none add up. Additionally, when I want to know what is going on I have had to call them each time after waiting "48 hours" for them to respond to me... which they never do. We get no straight answers, and it's interesting to me the cost to fix my car is less than totaling it! The car only has 78,000 miles, which in Hawaii is golden. No engine problems, there is literally nothing wrong with the car. I had hoped to drive it for at least 10 more years. They give nothing to ship a car here, they use comparables from a completely different state, where AWD and 4x4's are not as valued as they are here... and we pay extra for uninsured and under insured motorists, yet they will not fix my car and will only total it! They have already said they will go after the other insurance company to pay the claim.
I feel they are playing games, because two of the cars in the accident were insured through Geico, who called and told me they didn't have the money to pay out the claims, since someone in another car had been injured. I'm not sure why I am being penalized for others, and why my insurance company isn't being fair with me, but I am reconsidering who I use and also logging a complaint with the Hawaii Insurance commission. This is just wrong all over!

I was a USAA member for 20+ years when I had to file a claim this summer for the first time - my car was the victim of a hit-and-run in a parking lot, causing $2,500 in damages. The claims experience with USAA was a disaster from start to finish. My policy covered secondary towing and I asked to have it towed from my house because it proved unsafe for me to drive it to the body shop. USAA told me their towing contractor would be dispatched within 1-2 hours and would call me first. The towing company didn't show up until 3 days later (1 business day) and didn't call first, just showed up.
USAA told me they had sent my info to the car rental and I could show up there to pick up my rental car whenever. When I showed up at the car rental the next day, they told me I'd have to come back, as they didn't have a car ready for me yet. USAA told me I could take my car to any body shop I chose. When I chose my own (on recommendation from friends & family) rather than one of USAA's "partners," USAA repeatedly (4-5 times) told me of this fact - as a legal disclaimer, once is fine, but when you do it that many times, it felt like a sales pitch. The body shop did a fantastic job - and they deserve a medal for having to deal with USAA, who made them do six estimates to keep scaling back on things like USAA would only pay for 0.5 hours of labor for a particular task instead of 0.7 hours.
USAA's claims adjuster was not knowledgeable at all - every time they contacted me, I got conflicting information, including how much I would be responsible for paying (e.g. my collision deductible, none of it, or all of it because the other driver was unidentified and thus not covered by the uninsured motorist provision). I understand that insurance law in every state is different - but throughout the claims process I never moved. The claims adjuster should have had some understanding about what the law was for Indiana (I ended up having to pay my collision deductible). They also were very delayed in ordering the police report - even though it was available online within 72 hours (I was able to purchase a copy).
In the middle of the process, USAA asked me to submit online feedback on how things were going. When I did - noting things like they needed to update what they tell members about the towing contractor and car rental processes - all I got was an automated response that they would forward this information on. When the claim had finally been settled, USAA again asked me to submit online feedback about the whole process.
Well, not two minutes after I had hit the "submit" button on the feedback form, I got a call from a USAA supervisor. They hadn't bothered to read the info on the case before calling, but instead spent the next 20 minutes lecturing me about having dared to leave negative feedback, at one point telling me I was too "amped up" about it all. As someone whose job is customer service, I couldn't believe their attitude. I told them that I know people can sometimes have unrealistic expectations, but having read some review sites after the first round of feedback, I had seen some eerily similar experiences from USAA members in other states, which led me to believe it was something systemic, like maybe USAA has gotten too big to handle all their members. That was the last I ever heard from USAA - a subsequent call to them just went to voice mail, and an online contact was never answered.
After this experience, I surveyed my friends and co-workers who had filed a claim with other insurance companies in the last 12 months - none of them had experienced anything remotely like what I had. That led me to switch from USAA to another insurance company. When I called USAA to cancel my policy, they were only interested in knowing which company I had switched to.
That confirmed for me that I had made a good decision in leaving them. I also noted how on their website, members can only leave reviews about their credit cards/banking, not about their insurance. I have no idea if I'll ever have to file another claim, but I wouldn't go back to a restaurant I knew had bad service - why would I trust USAA with something as important as car insurance after having seen them in action?

She won't do it until I explain to her my issues from the beginning again. And she said that's the company policy. There is a month late fee that none of the representatives can be able to justify. It's not about the money is the principle. Because a couple of months ago they made a mistake of charging my account a late fee. And right after I called them they admitted their mistake they waived that late fee. Month of August 2017 they charged me a late fee again. And every time I called I have a copy of my auto insurance documentations and my observations. They don't have a full understanding what's written on the documentation. In other words they are really confused. The fifth representative his name is Jason.
I read him my documentation 3x. He still didn't understand. He was reading also on his computer the same documentation, he put me on hold and then told me I was right (I believed he talked to his supervisor). After he talked his supervisor, he told me that if they did not receive my August payment the next step I need to set up my auto insurance into AUTO PAY if I didn't agree with that I have to pay my entire balance in full. And my account is no longer qualified for installment payments. I asked him if he can send me a copy of that company policy in writing. He paused for a few seconds and told me he will put me on hold again. I said that's fine. He got back and told me that the company USAA already send me a copy the brochure. And I told him it's been a long time I didn't recall that I received a copy or I maybe misplaced it.
And I asked him if he can send me another one. He said the company only send a copy ONE TIME ONLY. I said it's fair because I'm your auto insurance customer for over ten years with excellent driving record and made no claims for that period of time. I paid fees if my had late payments. But you cannot send me a copy of your policy and or procedures. That being said employees have lack of work knowledge. I had 2 very bad experiences with USAA also, about 2 to 3 years ago right after I paid my past due balance on time to avoid insurance cancellation. I didn't even know that my insurance was canceled. I submitted a claim because a prior windshield replacement had started to leak. Seems to be a common occurrence with super duty Ford pickups (Start date July 16 2016). Contracted insurance adjuster comes out, does his initial appraisal of damage and assures me it is a piece of cake repair, no problems. I'll keep you informed 100% of the way (lie #1). Take it to Prime Collision in Saco Maine (avoid this place like the plague).
Once again I am told we will keep you informed 100% of the way (lie #2). Nothing will happen without us letting you know. I also wrote on the intake paperwork nothing beyond the original scope of work happens without my EXPRESS WRITTEN CONSENT. Lots of family has been in the trade I know how these processes work. A week goes by and I get a supplemental damage estimate to the tune of $6200 to replace the roof panel and a sundry list of other things to include the PCM to the tune of $1172.
It runs fine, still runs fine, apparently the parts swappers at Prime Ford don't listen when I tell them that I have been in the PCM and their factory computer will tell them it is bad, move past that and trouble shoot the problems I have outlined... GEM (general electronic module) and under dash fuse panel have gotten wet. Radio turns on randomly with no key, horn blares when shut off and no one inside, cruise control doesn't work, trailer connections and brakes do not work.Anyone with any experience with these vehicles know those issues are GEM related. both of those items are less than $700 combined new, they take 10 minutes to remove the old one and put in the new components.
I go in to Prime to find out what the ever living hell is going on. I am told the insurance company needs to approve anything to be done. Really? Am I the owner? The customer? Or is the insurance company. They get an earful. No movement for about a month then I get the payment for the repair, they pull the payment back. They pay the body shop, I raise all kinds of bloody hell, they pull the payment back. Kathy at Prime gets fed up with USAA and just calls and says “Oh, the electrical damage is too expensive to repair, IT IS A TOTAL LOSS.” No supplemental estimate. Just a verbal.
I tell the damage "specialist" it is not a total loss. Have it towed to my house I am going to get it fixed by another shop that will actually work with the customer. I am told this is an option to avoid the total loss and salvage title by the claims adjuster assigned to my claim. NOPE, they towed it to a salvage yard! I find this out, and I go to the yard. Tom the manager was very helpful, after a good 45 minutes of screaming at the USAA rep my truck is on its way home (That was October 2016).
It is now 22 August 2017. My truck is still in limbo, I am still disputing the total loss, they cannot justify the total loss with the paperwork they provide to me, I went and got another estimate over 10% less than what Prime provided… They have another "electrical supplemental repair estimate" for damage that might be found. They cannot, or will not provide it to me.
I have had my truck back for 10 months. I was trained as an automotive technician and was certified before I joined the navy and became a machinist, do you think I haven't done the troubleshooting necessary to figure out what needs to be fixed? Dried the truck out and maintained the watertight integrity of the cab? What on earth could it take to drum up the repairs by almost $2000 just to get it over the TLF? Oh yeah, it would be the way that USAA does business when they are tired of dealing with a claim. They make a habit of doing this. Read through the rest of the reviews, I mean complaints. They are going to lose another long time and up until this claim satisfied customer.

My wheel was damaged on the accident and the field appraiser thought it was a good idea to fix the wheel instead of getting a new one. I wasn't happy with the final job on the wheel. The field appraiser never inspected the wheel after it was repaired. I called him several times and left voicemail and he never got back to me. I notified USAA that I wasn't happy with the wheel and they said that my wheel won't be replaced because the field appraiser said the wheel was fine. I asked to talk to a manager two different times and they told me a manager would be calling me and that never happened. They don't really care about the customers, they just want the money. My Jeep was hit by a USAA policy holder who was cited at the accident with fault. USAA was very helpful in the beginning, they told me not to contact State Farm (My Carrier) since their client was at fault and they would handle my claim. The collision center stated 4000 dollar repair estimate prior to inspection. They sent me that check quickly. All was well until the collision center increased the total claim to 9000.00 the next week after tearing down my front bumper and finding more damage, and again USAA agreed to cover. Parts were ordered, repair was about to start. Collision center called me upset that they had just found out that USAA had totaled my vehicle. I was not informed of this. I contacted total loss dept at USAA.
They said I had TWO choices, take the total loss amount at 22,000.00 or keep the jeep and get repairs but have a salvage title. I argued, "Why would it be a total at 9000.00 repair if you are willing to pay me 22,000.00 dollars," did not make sense. The total loss dept stated that this repair amount crossed the threshold and I really had no choice. A letter was sent to me, and I mailed in my signed title and they towed my jeep with the keys etc that day, and stated I would get the full amount in 3-5 days. After 8 DAYS and no money I contacted USAA, after many long holds they apologized and stated they were not sure why the money had not been transferred... But it was now.
Two days later STILL NO MONEY. I called total loss, got voice mail and never received a call back. I had to call the main number... After a LONG hold a claims rep came on and stated after review the policy had a 10000.00 limit and they could NOT pay me and I had to contact STATE FARM for the money. WHAT??? After a few days of long calls and long holds and NEVER getting anyone to answer my questions I had to reach out to State Farm. At this time I had NO JEEP, NO TITLE and 4000.00 to my name. NO rental car because I turned that in when we agreed upon the total loss.
So fast forward to today, 2 months after my accident, State Farm said my jeep was NOT a total loss, even after sitting in a salvage lot for over 3 weeks, and they would repair it... Only to find out that USAA had already started the transfer to my title and had it declared a salvage. Now they want me to take back my jeep, get a repair done, and have a salvage title...
So basically I am out so much money. I cannot sell my jeep for what it is worth. I have refused to take back my jeep at this point. I must say STATE FARM has been VERY HELPFUL and is allowing me time to proceed with a lawsuit against USAA. I have contacted a lawyer and the Department of Insurance. This is ridiculous. USAA never mentioned ANY hint or suggestion of a limit to the policy or ANYTHING remotely like that when they settled the deal with me. Or else I would have contacted State Farm and NEVER sent them my signed title. I feel so foolish for trusting them.
It is a terrible feeling when you get screwed over by a big company. They have only just said... Sorry. Sorry they screwed up. If you get hit by someone with USAA insurance, just say a prayer, and dial your insurance company first. I can only hope that no one else will have to go through this type of nightmare. This was completely preventable! And also fixable. But USAA refuses to fix their mistakes.

I have been a USAA member for 21 years. I was satisfied with them until 2 days ago when I received my auto insurance bill. I bought a new vehicle in July 2017. I called from the dealership to delete my 2012 Ford Explorer and add my 2017 Mazda CX-5. The representative told me I was lucky because my auto insurance premium was only going to increase by a few dollars. When I received my 6-month renewal bill it had increased by $175. I called USAA and asked them why they increased my premium by such a large amount. I was told: (1) because you bought a new vehicle, (2) because they discovered concerning safety issues with my new car, and (3) that they were increasing Florida motorists rates across the board to pay for past and future claims.
I have never had a rude USAA representative until 2 days ago. I looked up the safety rating given by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and found that my Mazda is rated #2 for safety features among all compact SUV's. The representative could not give me the specific safety issues USAA is concerned about. My wife and I have not had an auto accident claim in over seven years, and the accident was not our fault, and neither one of us have any tickets. I am not buying their excuses!
My only other issue with this company is with my homeowner's insurance. When we bought our house in 2009 we were told that they were not writing retired military new policies in the state of Florida. When I got married I talked my wife into canceling her State Farm policy and staying with USAA because "they take care of military members". Needless to say we are going to start looking for a new auto insurance company this week.

I sent her photos of the items showing proof of ownership, I have receipts, and she even called my best friend who verified to her that I owned those items. She tried to call my husband and insinuate that I was lying, and he has severe PTSD and his memory isn't great at all, which has been discussed with her. She tried to threaten us with legal action because in a previous claim, another wallet was stolen, but it was a different brand, which is stated on the police report.
USAA failed to describe in the previous claim although it was clearly stated in the police report the color and brand of the wallet. USAA is trying to say that I am defrauding them by claiming this wallet from this last break in as the same one from the previous claim. I am waiting on my police dept to send me the copy of the previous police report and I have spoken to a lawyer who told me as soon as I get a denial letter from USAA to call them back so we can sit down and discuss legal action against them. Apparently they like to do this to their members when there are multiple claims on similar items. It's disgusting how they treat their long term members. Long story short, after several calls making us feel like the criminals our car was paid for but our renewal bill came back with over double the premium and the only payment option being to pay the yearly premium in full. Eighteen months ago, we suffered our first liability loss when the water heater in our residential condo burst and caused water damage to the two units below us. Total damage was about $13,500. USAA never disputed that our homeowners' policy covered the water damage, but the adjusters kept looking for every excuse not to pay the claim. This forced my wife and me to pay for the repairs ourselves. It was only after my wife and I threatened to sue USAA did USAA's lawyers confirm that their adjusters were 100% wrong and my wife and I were 100% right. We were ultimately reimbursed by USAA, but it took a full year!
Also, during the first Iraq war in 1990-91, my Marine Corps reserve unit was activated. I had an existing life insurance policy with USAA for $100,000 and I asked the company if I could increase the limits to $200,000 to better protect my wife. USAA said no, that they were issuing no new life policies and freezing all existing life policies because of the pending war. What a great company. After maybe 10 phone calls to inquire about status of claim we were told that they would only speak to us through emails. Every phone call had a different story. The 20% responsibility was that the driver that caused the crash said we did not have brake lights which a police officer cited the driver for. After the rear end collision that totaled the car. How a police officer can cite someone when he did not see the car before a rear end collision is beyond me. But three major insurance companies advised that brake lights are irrelevant in this situation and many cars sit at red lights without depressing the brake pedal. I have been a customer of USAA for more than ten (10) years and I would not ask for a better car insurance company. From their very caring people, to their quick service in every aspect needed from an insurance company. I have tried to find another insurance company that could be cheaper, due to my financial strain. I had found in each occasion that I already have the best insurance, in price and service. I have compared prices with other major companies. Their customer service is one of a kind and I know I didn't get lucky one time and got their best customer service person. Every time I have reach out to them I get a very kind and understandable voice on the other end.
I have been through several accidents and USAA has made the bad experience of been through an accident, a tolerable one. As soon as I called them, they were very caring and quickly set me up with several places to take my car for service and set me up with a rental car. Nobody wishes to go through the experiences of been through an accident; with USAA on my side, I feel everything is going to be OK.

Lucky to say haven't needed their services much, as far as accidents, yet the rates I pay are very low in comparison to other insurance companies. I plan to take out a renters policy soon and to also get financial advice for a 401K I have in a past employer. I have also always had great customer service with good and helpful advice! When I was recently hit by a driver carrying USAA Auto Insurance I was optimistic that my experience would be okay since I had heard positive feedback about their customer service. Boy, was I wrong to assume any insurance company would act with morality! The estimate department misplaced my estimate from the preferred provider they insisted I use, then wouldn't accept it for a $60 disposal cost.
This went on for over a month and when I finally called the adjuster out on just trying to get past the claims window so they didn't have to pay she finally got the money into my account. Now that I have finally gotten at least some of the money I called Enterprise to set up a pick up and was told that I was given a $24 credit per day from Enterprise. I drive a luxury car and was told if I wanted to upgrade I was welcome to do so out of pocket! WHAT A RACKET. They are very good and quick at responding to your needs and ensuring the job is done completely. They don't make you make dozens of other calls and you are usually assigned someone so that you have a warm body to call if you have questions. I am officially done with them! Last week, my car got broken into and they stole my wallet and two purses from a piece of luggage that I had in my car to leave for a trip DURING the DAY! I called the cops, they told me to file a report online and call USAA which I did. USAA said that they needed to "investigate" because my car got broken into before (my neighborhood has easy access from the street and I'm locked into a lease which I cannot pay to get out of) and they sent a horrible lady named Sandra who upon meeting me, asked me very personal questions about my marriage, how many high-end luxury bags I "really own", demanded a picture of my ring that my grandmother gave me that I was wearing, asked if it was real and not fake, and made me feel even more violated than I already felt. She made it assume as if I couldn't afford high-end items.
Then she comes back the next day, takes pictures of my car and is very cold and standoffish with me! Like I don't pay you guys monthly to treat me like a suspect here! We have been their customers for over 10 yrs and literally I am going to try to call corporate tomorrow and see if they can try to intervene. Sandra's "boss" called me after I left a VM with the adjuster who can withdraw claims because I just personally don't feel like I am getting the help I need with them at ALL, and she was even more defensive on the phone! They threatened me with their legal department because I said I want to withdraw because of how this whole situation is looking and I'm feeling more like a prime suspect than anything else! I told them to get a search warrant and then that's when we will talk. I can't believe after all these years that they treat us this way! GEICO it is!

They left one of our cars uninsured for six months without informing us, and did not give us a way to check this information online. Therefore, after over 43 years with USAA, I cancelled my policy. Turns out that other insurers have better customer service and better rates.
The sentimental ads with returning veterans indicating that they "have you covered" are utterly deceptive. No one at that company cares enough to so much as return calls from long-term customers. I have been a member since 2005 and I've had insurance since 2007. It's not common that I've had bad experiences, however, the bad ones really stuck with me. First, my car was totaled last year. The person at fault had an insurance company that was moving slow so I contacted USAA because I needed a rental ASAP so I could get back and forth to the doctor and chiropractor. They set up the rental and completed an appraisal quickly. Once that was done I get notified that I can only keep the rental for 7 days because that's what my policy says.
So I'm sitting there trying to understand the logic. The other insurance company provides a rental for 30 days on a total loss. Considering my police report indicated the other person was 100% at fault. I don't know why USAA, the people I pay every month, would not provide me with the same option. Each person I spoke with was insensitive to the situation disregarding the fact that I was just injured and losing a car that has a lien is not fun.
My most recent incident occurred in December 2016. I was in an accident and when I filed my claim I also filed under my medical payments. This was my first time and what a horrific experience. Now I have medical insurance so I went to the doctor and of course they bill my insurance. I was not made aware that they shouldn't do this. The last time I was in an accident I was told to bill my insurance because it was required. USAA operates differently when it comes to medical payments. The person in charge of this portion of the claim randomly sent an email to me without contacting me first so I didn't know what this was. Then I attempted to call her on multiple occasions only to not receive a response until I complained to the company. Once she called me she told me that their process is not to file under my medical insurance.
At this point I made it clear to her that I work for a bank not an insurance company and had she contacted me in the beginning I would've known. So at this point I have no bills just EOB's. They would not accept those. I didn't know this until I started receiving letters in the mail that were unrecognizable initially. I still have not heard from Deborah **. It's June and this happened 12/10/2016. Then I received a letter from my doctor's office stamped 05/02/2017 that was sent over from Deborah. This has gone on far too long and I'm quick P.O. USAA used to be reputable company but as time goes on the employees lack proper customer service.

I have been a member of USAA banking and insurance since 2012. I had my father converted as well, and in the beginning, they were Great! Fast response, courteous, and accommodating to one's specific needs and changes financial wise. HOWEVER, now in 2017, they only care about money, their customer service matches the insurance and banking needs (Garbage). My insurance went from 1200 to 1500 without ANY EXPLANATION, except on the auto bill pay where I had budgeted to pay $241/month to $330/month! I told them to stop auto bill pay BEFORE the DUE DATE, and they still tried to pull the amount on that day! And now I have a $30 NSF FEE that I shouldn't have to pay! I had a 3-way call going because I know they were going to pull this B.S. and now I have a witness to prove that I tried to cancel the auto pay!!!
In a nutshell, I am going to discontinue ANY and EVERYTHING I have under USAA until they change how they treat valued customers! IDC if they use a third party (Liberty Insurance Which is trash as of late as well). USAA has lost respect for their customers as well as those who serve the country! They used to ask about your well being, and would understand when life changes would appear! Now they are rude (Customer Service) and they lack empathy towards you, your personal situation and anything else you may have going on in your life! I never thought I would leave USAA a negative review, but they left me no other choice!!! I am officially done with you USAA!!!

They treat you like you are a criminal. My car was stolen at my kid's school. They found the car. They are trying to pay me less than what the car is worth... with the extra insurance it is all a trick. They get you with the good rates... but watch when you need them. They will not be in a rush to get things straight.

Subsequently, the assignment was cancelled with no notification to me. USAA reps just tell me this is normal. My own insurance is through USAA but the other driver was covered by USAA as well and USAA accepted responsibility. Is this how they treat everyone?

Recently hit in an intersection. Called USAA from the scene. Told I did not have collision or rental car reimbursement!!! I have had collision on all my vehicles insured with USAA since 1971. This greatly increased the stress I was experiencing from being hit. USAA said not only was I at fault but also I would receive nothing for totaled car. I disputed their position. After many days and many hours on the phone, I did my own research of my policy online. Two weeks prior to accident I called to change the state for my policy because of a move (USAA was award of the move because of changes in other insurance and contact info).
When policy for new state was issued it did not include collision or rental reimbursement. They still did not accept responsibility. I had to push them to check recording of conversation (I had date and time of call). They finally paid $14k after deductible but never fessed up top what had happened or offered a sincere apology. AVOID USAA. They also have increased their security for accessing account info online. Unfortunately it has made it difficult or impossible to access the info I used to convince them of their error.

I have been a member for 23 years and they have always gone above and beyond for me. I insured my car with them when I was 16 years old and later that year had three major auto accidents that weren't my fault. Each time they responded immediately and had a check to the dealership to repair my vehicle within the week. At the age of 40 now I have my house and all my vehicles insured through them and still receive excellent service. I live at the beach and have had to file claims for storm damages from hurricanes and have never had to wait for an estimate or repairs. I have a credit card through them and have never had any issues with that service, similar I love their banking and investment products. Two weeks ago I had a lady run a stoplight which did major damage to my vehicle.
This happened on a Tuesday... by Friday the lady cut a check to the dealership which included my deductible as the accident wasn't my fault so I wasn't liable. I had my repaired car deliver to my office by Thursday. Aside from the accident happening, I experienced no inconvenience, USAA handled everything. I am leaving a review because I was surprised at the negative reviews on this site, which do not paint an accurate depiction of the standard level of service through this company. One other thing to note, I have never had to wait to speak to a representative, and all of the representatives that I have spoken with are based in the USA so no inconvenient accents to decipher. With respect to insurance, no other company can even come close to their charges, USAA is the absolute lowest you will pay for coverage.

Driving on hwy in SC and rock damaged my window from road construction. Called USAA for assistance after speaking with several folks that informed me of Windshield only clause for free repairs & replacements. USAA reps managed to screw me over by doing one thing and saying another. They want me to pay out of pocket for coverage when I should not have to pay. I have several property and vehicles and their reps screwed up how I am covered and they want to force me to pay for their errors. Not going to happen.
Will bring forth a lawsuit if necessary. I was in an accident at no fault of my own and had payments set up for cc payments which their reps deleted and tried to say that we were not in compliance of paying and when I pointed out their error again they tampered with my acct once again for the payments that were set up again and verified by one of their own reps. USAA has now gone to the extent of threatening to cancel my coverage and treating me as if I have never paid my premiums on time. Paid all the bills to keep things current and I'll start printing out all payments because they lie about what things when they are caught in the act and attempt to make the consumer look bad.

I spent 4 hours on the phone and still didn't get everything on my policy and after calling back to finish I finally had all I could handle, I was told that because my kids were of a certain age, I could not have them on my policy even though they are driving my cars in my name. I've had 4 insurance companies in my life and I've never had a company try so hard to make doing business with them so hard and they kept telling me it was a state law that they couldn't do it and I called them out on it then it was they said I would be committing fraud and it if my kids got in an accident it would show up on my driving record which I called them out on again and said that's a lie so at that point after talking to 3 people trying to convince me I needed to have 3 different policies and cost me an extra 290 more than I was paying for State Farm.
I finally told the last lady, "I'm done with the lies and ** just send me over to where I can cancel my insurance I had with them for a whole week with my 2 cars and my house." I was trying to get 3 houses and 4 cars and they were so difficult to deal with. It just wasn't worth it especially when I seen how much more I was going to pay because I would have now had 3 auto insurance policies and 3 house policies. Think wisely before you allow these people to lie to you and take your money. I just can't imagine what it would have been like if I had a claim and try getting a straight answer or better a lie. I was hit by a drunk driver on 5/3/2017 who did not carry enough insurance to cover my car as well as the other car she hit. The claim filed with my insurance has been going on for 3 weeks at the time of this review, I was notified as of today that the estimate of $23,774.98 was deemed repairable based on the value that USAA's appraiser gave the car ($48,712). I received a copy of the appraisal done by USAA showing they used a "new" car to comp it out, I provided 4 comparable "used" car comps along with value reports from KBB and Carfax showing the value to be $30,980 trade-in, private party at $33,770 and retail at 35,520 which would deem the car a total loss.
After I submitted all the proof the car was not worth the value they claimed I was told, "Too bad that's what we feel it's worth". I am now stuck with the lease on a vehicle that reports on Carfax as accident with airbags deployed that I will have to disclose when I trade, sell or turn in the lease and am on the hook for the diminished value of this car. Once the car is repaired I can file a diminished value claim and I was told the same appraiser would re appraise the car and determine what the car is now worth post accident. I have no faith that USAA will be able to make me whole on a car that I have insured with them and have been a customer for over 3 years. Once this mess is sorted out in the next few months if I am lucky I will without a doubt be canceling all insurance policy so have with USAA (homeowners, auto) based on the terrible customer service and basic understanding of real life.

I decided to give USAA another chance. Here's the trick: get through the front line of disempowered agents by going to a specific insurance area (auto insurance, homeowners, rental, etc.). When you get an a person there, tell them that you can't do business with someone who doesn't trust you enough to give an employee ID or last name, they may give it to you. Be nice to them if they won't establish a trusting relationship and ask for a supervisor. Be nice and you may end up with someone who not only will give you their name, but also their extension (direct number). They become your agent! I am very satisfied with my agent now and am glad I tried again.

I've been a USAA customer for 27 years. In the early days, the agents were very friendly and I truly felt like I had a trusting relationship with the firm. In all these years, I have never once filed a claim. But the vibe has changed dramatically. The front line folks who take the calls are defensive and seem to be focusing on protecting the firm at the expense of helping the customer. It's almost as though they are more interested avoiding any responsibility. I've just dropped all my coverage and moved to another firm more oriented to the customer.

On 4/21/17 I was driving home with my spouse and dog when an 18 year old USAA member ran a stale red and hit my car going 50 mph as I passed into the intersection. My car was totalled and I sustained a 2nd degree burn to my chest and severe seatbelt contusion to my hips, which now have large hematomas and are very uncomfortable. I contacted USAA and have only been treated terribly. In the month since my accident, they've contacted me once, and I've had to get in touch with them every other time. Everyone I speak with is rude and doesn't give the correct information.
The one time someone called me to speak about my claim, I was at work and was unable to answer, so he left a message and I called him back asap and was forwarded to a voicemail. He then called two days later during a time I had specifically asked him not to call during on my message because of work. I then returned his call 1 minute later, only to get a "voicemail box full" tone and promptly hung up on. This happened to me 5 times. He never called me back or answered when I called, and eventually when I was told by the rental car agency that my rental was up in a few days, I had to call his department and start headway on property settlement myself.
I then received a notarized letter on May 19 at 5pm, saying no one had heard from me and they were going to assume I didn't want to move forward with a claim if they didn't hear from me before the following Monday, But everyone I called only had office house during the week and were off weekends. I was then given the wrong name and number for the person handling my pain and suffering settlement and promptly sent back to the rude adjustor who has not contacted me a single time since the accident and I've had to do it all myself. Even today I called the adjuster during her hours and got her voicemail. She never returns my calls, but knows the voicemails leave when I call back multiple times to actually talk to someone, so I know she listens to them but doesn't feel it important enough to get back to me.
I'm a 21 year old college student, working full time with no car now. The way I've been treated you would think I was the one texting and driving and not their client. They are a group of unprofessionals and if you ever have the misfortune of being the victim of an accident caused by one of their clients, I strongly advise you to get a lawyer immediately and have them speak for you. You would think a company who represents our armed forces would act better towards American citizens.

I'm not a member of this insurance but I'm the victim of an accident by one of their insured. My car was totaled in an accident and USAA agreed to pay off my car. The accident happened in February. It's now May and the email correspondence has been nothing but roundabouts and circles. First, my name wasn't spelled right in the initial claim so I had them change it, then I sent my power of attorney letter but they needed a FedEx receipt, then I sent them the receipt and they said my name on the power of attorney was wrong (it was correct they just switched me to a new representative and he had the old file with the wrong name.) So then I had to resend the letter and a new FedEx receipt and then he emailed me saying they didn't have it after getting an email confirming that they got it. I sent them pictures of both and was met with an email asking if the receipt in the picture matched the paper I sent.
During all this time I've still been paying my car payment which is allowing them to lower their pay off and when they lower their pay off we have to do this whole circus again. They're awful people who just elongate things so they don't have to spend money. I'm getting my lawyer involved now so I don't have to. I'm not even a customer and I would recommend never using them.

I received no letter, no e-mail, nothing. Not even a phone call. So not only did they lie about it online when I logged on to USAA they sent me a letter. Checking the "amount due" the first time I logged in they charged me a late fee and sent me an email informing me of all of this when I logged in the second time.
Then when I got on the phone to sort this out, the representative I spoke with began berating me, and saying things like: "We can have the police take your car if you don't pay us. We can call them and you will get in trouble. I mean that's how it works in Kentucky." (It isn't. You have to be physically driving your car to get in trouble.) Whats worse is he started saying, "I need to know what's going on in a man's personal life that he can't pay car insurance." I just said "Yeeaah" and hung up on him. They are telling me that my policy went up in price on the internet from 500 to 700. As someone with no car crashes under their belt, or tickets, and no criminal record I can get cheaper somewhere else. This used to be the best auto insurance. Now it's garbage apparently. Avoid.

They were right - the car was repaired good as new; I had a rental vehicle while they waited for the factory parts to be shipped to the repair shop to complete the repair. Your VRS (Voice Reponse System) really needs improvement. I like your company, your insurance is good, and rates good also. BUT today I was FRUSTRATED big time. When I called USAA, I needed a copy of my auto proof of liability insurance. OK--that is pretty simple but I NEVER was able to be directed to a simple link to just get you to send me this document so I can renew my truck registration (in Texas you may know it is required to have proof of liability insurance at time of license renewal for a vehicle). So, I finally got a nice young lady on the phone and she helped me.
My view is that something as simple as posting on your VRS a link which I can input my name and verification i.e. Social Sec. number and you will send a copy to me. This is not complicated but your system makes it so. I had State Farm for 30 years and when I needed help I just called my agent or went to his/her office to discuss. Had it not been for "Chasity" who help (very polite and well trained -- I give her 5 Stars on today's call May 10, 2017), I would have lost respect for your systems engineering and Voice Response support team.

I signed up with these ** 10 months ago. That was my first mistake. The first 14 business days they harassed me by sending me my policy 18 times. Yes I counted, 18 policy documents total. The next issue is try calling them to tell them to stop harassing you, all you hear is every other excuse as to why you're still going to receive your policy another 18 times. Don't sign up for emails, they will send you 3-4 on average per day. One time my radiator cracked and I was in a heavy area of traffic, in downtown Denver. First they sent some ** who spoke only Spanish and didn't know what cross streets were, and never arrived, then I had to call again, almost 2 hours later in fear of being hit on the corner of a major street section, and they still did not come.
What else is worse is don't ever let them con you into signing up for something stupid like "renters insurance" because they force you to keep it. Let alone every time you call these **, 99.999 percent of them are "PC" and if you even say the word "freaking" they automatically threaten to hang up, scream, yell. Banter. Before the election, one stupid liberal, I told them "don't tell me what to do. I'm paying you and I'm not PC at all," started going "HILLARY" all over me.
Yesterday I called to try to cancel my policy, it took me 4 hours. What's so wrong is that they enforce "PC" culture on you but I almost guarantee that 99.999 percent of these retards are the liberals that curse you out worse than sailors do on Facebook. I have called USAA six times within the last 24 hours and they have hired a third vendor party for both side assistance and for towing a vehicle. They have sent out three trucks that are not equipped to tow in all-wheel-drive vehicle. They cannot be engaged in automatic to neutral. And now they're telling me that because it takes extra or special equipment that I have to pay another $119 and wait another two hours for someone to show up. So all the money that I've been paying them for all the years that I've been with USAA means absolutely nothing as long as I fall within the $50 fee and because I'm in North Carolina I cannot be serviced accordingly because it takes extra equipment to get a tow truck with a dolly. So for all US AAA members if you're North Carolina and your car is what they call truly disabled which means you can't drive it and you use USAA you may want to look at another vendor.

Anyone searching for auto insurance should stay away from USAA. They will overbill and not provide an explanation. If you ask to speak to a supervisor they say a supervisor is unavailable. If you ask how to file an official complaint they give you the runaround. Not one representative, or "senior specialist" has been able to explain why my auto insurance has doubled ($1,200) and why they refuse to give me a credit for an error made on their part. Save yourself the stress and headache and choose a company who is much more professional and less likely to rob you of your hard earned money. It does not even matter if you are a prior service member. USAA representatives do not care.

2 years and 4 months ago I was rear-ended while stopped in traffic. The vehicle that hit me was an old Suburban towing a 2 horse trailer (empty) and was driven by a 16 year old girl. Her father had a whole $15,000 liability insurance through GEICO who paid off right away but ER bills and Dr's visits ate that up in a week or two. I had my head turned to the right to block my German Shepherd from climbing over the console and my jaw was jammed tight against my right shoulder bone. When I was hit my jaw was torn at the joints and for two years plus I've fought my OWN Insurance company to pay my medical bills and provide for the $30,000 surgery I need to rebuild my jaw joints. USAA tried to say my jaw injury was a pre-existing condition but my personal dentist refuted that emphatically because he had examined me just prior to the accident.
I was finally paid about half of the "Med Pay" part of my policy but only about $2,500 of the $5,000 owed to me. The original adjuster changed positions at USAA and didn't bother to assign my claim to another adjuster until forced to do so. USAA lied about everything from the first contact and treated me like a criminal and finally offered $52,000 to settle. My policy limit was, I thought, $100,000 but after jerking me around they admitted since I took out the policy in New Mexico and had another vehicle insured with them for the same limits, the policy was "Stacked" or double, equaling $200,000.
For the next two years I sought out every competent oral surgeon in the Phx area with options to have the surgery (who has $30 grand laying around?) or living with the constant pain of my jaw floating around in various positions. USAA's twerp Scott ** denied that I could have suffered such injuries from a ten mile an hour impact. I'd be perfectly happy to demonstrate on Scott's jaw what sort of damage such an impact could produce. Their latest response, over two years later, is around $58,000 which they seem to think is a lot of money.
There was another development in Nov 2016 when I finally took opioids (**) after refusing them for years due to my experiences with drug addicts in my work. I was prescribed 2/day but only took 1/2 because I was very sensitive to such drugs. One Saturday I took two whole ** and the following morning, due to increase pain I took one more. After a short period of time I was in my backyard with my dog and started feeling dizzy and disoriented so I started back to the house, tripped, and broke three ribs, my nose and suffered a subdural hematoma with a skull fracture and bleeding in my brain. I'd never taken half that amount of prescription pain medication in my life and it simply overpowered me. I know people with chronic pain who take 6 or more per day but that's not me...
Today I was informed that USAA is going to hire some prostitute specialist in Pennsylvania to refute my 6 doctors and physical therapist. They also have a "Bio-mechanical" expert who will refute the claim that I suffered such an injury at such low speed. If you use the formula for foot pounds of force F=Velocity times Mass, you get a staggering figure... But it's a given that an "Expert Witness" will parrot anything he's instructed to by the people who hire him. I've seen this many times in my career as a homicide detective and SWAT EOD member. I'm going to have my attorney advise USAA that I'm not giving up and I'll see this all the way to a conclusion more in line with the damage done to me. Binding arbitration is the next step.
USAA has a horrible record of denying claims for no good reason. I'd like to look at Scott **'s work records to see just how many times he's been rewarded for claim denials in cases such as mine. My quality of life has descended to the point of depression, constant pain and anger. That's not how I want to live. With the mountain of medical evidence, MRI, CT scans and X-rays and written opinions from my doctors I believe USAA needs to suffer a major loss for their entrenched policy of breach of contract and acting in bad faith.

I have been with USAA for close to 17 years, having banked with them and used them for my auto and renter's insurance. I have enjoyed my experience for the most part, with the exception of some instances where they held larger checks for unreasonable amounts of time, but I've found this to be true of most banks. My auto insurance, though a bit high, has been flawless. I've made several roadside assistance claims and a few claims for fender benders, and I've never had to wait more than 24 hours for insurance payments. Roadside assistance has bailed me out of several "oops I locked my keys in my car" situations. I've never had to file a claim on my renter's insurance, so I can't really speak to that. They reimburse ATM fees and give customers a refund at the end of each year based on the amount they earn above what they need to cover expenses, so that's a great perk.
Recently, I applied for a VA backed mortgage loan and got pre-qualified immediately. I gave them accurate information, though I realized my credit was low and I would be starting a new job soon, both things that would make the process more difficult and things that had discouraged me from applying in the past. They acted as if it was no big deal and even gave me a higher loan pre-approval based on my new salary. My originator and processor were friendly and responsive, but two days before my closing date, my loan was denied because my credit was too low, I didn't have enough time with my current employer, and I didn't have enough liquid assets - (I made sure I had what my originator told me I would need). There was never any mention of a need for more assets above what I would need for closing.
I realize it's the underwriters who make the final decision, but I'm confident there is some common knowledge in the department about what will and will not fly for this company, and I was led to believe there wouldn't be any problems getting the loan and then had the rug pulled out from under me right before closing. Additionally, since homeowner's insurance was required to complete the application and I was loyal to the company, I went ahead and got it with USAA. The premium was absolutely ridiculous, but being a first time home buyer, I didn't realize that until I was advised by another lender to shop around. I've since found comparable insurance for less than half of USAA's premium. To summarize, banking, auto and renter's insurance are great. Stay away from the mortgage department unless you have really good credit and plenty of liquid assets, and get your homeowner's insurance somewhere else no matter who you are.
