Horrible coverage, we constantly are getting more bills for doctors visits... Even for annual checkup we are getting crazy bills... This is the worse healthcare I seen.. We try to get some explanation from them- they cannot explain.. The end of the day this is by far the worst coverage for a family- do yourself a favor and shop different healthcare providers....

I think United Healthcare is getting worse all the time. I have been with United healthcare for a while because I like my doctors, the dental plan is good, and the gym plan is great. They have done just about everything wrong that they could possibly do. Starting with charging me for a dental plan I never wanted and they wouldn’t stop charging me. When you call to make a claim, they act like they care and they are going to do something. They are horrible! when you call back, there is no claim, it disappears!
Every year they try to make it harder to talk to a human being. They have computers to try and divert you. The customer service, so many different answers on the same day for the same question. I am waiting nine months for a colonoscopy. The availability of doctor appointment seems to be getting longer and longer. And that pharmacy! It’s somehow affiliated with United healthcare and the only mail order. There is a reason all other good pharmacies don’t do business like Optum RX. It is getting worse. But I don’t see any improvements. Or something staying as nice as it was. For instance, I really like my doctor. But it’s getting harder to see him harder to get answers, I just tried to communicate!

I used to think UHC was amazing, but since 2024 that's not true. Being told that I'd get reimbursed & then they don't reimburse AND not being given a reason. Suddenly not paying for doctors. Being told to get a pre-authorization and they'd pay for it, BUT they won't. I, literally, do what I have been told to do BUT they don't follow through on their end. Suddenly don't cover my optometrist, who I've seen for years, but they won't even send me a list of eye doctors they will approve. SOOO much stuff... Copy of claims & other papers that they legally have to send to me, but aren't. Yes, I'm even dealing with the corporate office for some of this...and yes, I'm still being lied to.
UHC has gone from great to infuriating and not caring about my medical needs at all. I've tried to reach out to a lot of people, including John Rex & Andrew Witty, but...got "pawned off" to Susan **...She has blatantly lied in emails & over the phone. I wonder if those men even know that I'd reached out to them. If they'd fix these issues, which they already know about these & more, I would very quickly put out a review that they've messed up, but apologized and fixed everything. It wouldn't cost them too much, either. (*I have tooooo many receipts & pictures to post on here, but I have a lot!)

What a nightmare just to get the insulin that keeps me alive. My plan started on 1/1/25, and it has been a headache from the beginning. Optum is just awful, so now I'm using Publix. I have several medical conditions and among other things, I use two types of insulin. I called them last week to ensure that both types were covered and to confirm the $35 cap for both since I have a Medicare Plan. That call took 20-30 minutes. The "advocate" did not know anything about the Medicare cap on insulin, she had to get help, but came back and assured me that both insulins I use were covered at $35. Today I found out from my Publix pharmacy the they only covered my expensive long acting insulin, Toujeo, but not the fast acting insulin which I so desperately need. I check the UHC website stated that there was no alternative to Novolog - seriously?
I called and was on hold forever, got an "advocate" whose English was terrible, then transferred to another "advocate" whose English was worse. I tried to explain that I need fast acting insulin or I could die. "Advocate" # 2 (supposedly a "pharmacy advocate") put me on hold but about 15 minutes later, the call was disconnected. All I wanted to obtain was the name of another fast acting insulin which is covered - I don't care what brand it is, I just do not want to go into a diabetic coma. Then I called back and was connected to someone named David, who actually helped me. He told me that Humulog is most definitely covered without a special authorization. Now I must contact Emory's Endocrinology Dept and ask them to send a Rx for Humulog.
My endo is the head of the department but is on vacation this week. I sure hope that someone at his office can help me, or I could die. In addition to Diabetes 1.5, I have Addison's and must take steroids to stay alive. Stress and anxiety are NOT good for me. I even had a hassle with getting my steroid Rx filled! WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE? HORRIBLE.

Expensive copays, high limit deductibles to meet before insurance kicks in and covers anything plus it doesn’t matter that you have two plans under the same insurance roof, it still doesn’t save you from paying high out of pocket expenses and copays for medications nor doctor visits, the insurance changed January 2025 and stopped paying for medications once approved under both plans. I must say that I am unhappy with the coverage but I do hope it is worth the price in the care that I receive.

I switched from Wellcare to United Healthcare in January 2025, because the physicians participating in the plan were changing. I have an AARP Advantage plan. I absolutely hate it since changing!! There's no comparison between the two. Wellcare made things so easy. They also had much better benefits for vision coverage and otc drugs. Now I have a $25 a quarter otc benefit. Used to have $125 otc quarterly benefit. United Healthcare also makes it harder to get some needed drugs, requiring that you fail treatment with 2 others first. And the prior authentication department is a disaster! My doctors Office (different ones), have had submit numerous forms for the approval of the same medications. Because the PA line said they had no records of requests.
Then, there's the Optum rx mail order pharmacy that UHC uses. I tried to switch. Boy, was that a mistake! They messed up and also transferred my continuous glucose monitoring supplies. Which I told them not to. I then spent hours on the phone with them. I've finally asked them to just delete my account. Which they've yet to do. Maybe they don't know how, or can't. I'm so frustrated with United Healthcare all the way around.

The emailed information they sent me is outdated and they list providers that are not even in-network with them so I have to call office after office to confirm beforehand. I’m beyond frustrated with United Healthcare. They refused to cover my yearly physical, even though preventative care is supposed to be covered under my plan. What’s the point of paying for insurance if I still have to foot the bill just to go to the doctor? This is just a small issue, but it makes me wonder—if they nickel and dime people over routine checkups, what happens when someone actually needs real medical care? How many people are denied coverage for lifesaving treatments because of corporate greed? United Healthcare has made it clear: their bottom line matters more than their customers' health. If you’re considering them, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere.

United Healthcare is concerned with one thing only--PROFIT. I spent 2 months and many hours on the phone talking to more than five "advocates" trying to resolve what should've been a simple issue. Several of them promised to call me back & give an update, but never did. Walgreens billed my 90-day blood thinner (Jan-Mar)--which has a brand new deductible of $420, unlike any other insurance company--on the last day of 2024, even though I purchased the medication in January 2025. Had they billed it when I paid for it, the deductible would've been satisfied. Walgreens was very cooperative in changing the date & resubmitting the new date to United Healthcare twice, but United Healthcare denied their request. (UHC employees get incentives to deny claims!)
So, I wound up paying close to $500 for the medication for a 2025 prescription without the 2025 deductible being applied. $420 is nearly half my Social Security check & coming up with another $420 in April, plus the cost of the medication is not doable. So, I will switch to another insurance company that doesn't charge a deductible for this expensive medication. Think about it--this medication is already very expensive & UHC decided to add a deductible on top of that cost. United Healthcare has definitely earned their horrendous reputation for sacrificing patients for more profits. I know many people have suffered much greater anguish than I have dealing with them, but this is just another instance of an insurance company bilking people on fixed incomes when United Healthcare last year made 14.4 billion in profits! Lawmakers need to step away from the pharmaceutical lobbyists and serve the people. Enough is enough!!!

Well my doctor did but they still declined it stating it needed to try generic ones first. I had already tried them in the past and had horrible reactions so I didn’t want to go through that again. Ordered UHC Medicare Advantage Give-back plan of $72 to my SS mo income start 2/1/25. On 1/21/25 I call ins lady wanted add dental to plan that was already approv by UHC. Gave me the plan # & tele # of UHC sales. Called UHC same day & spoke salesman Spencer. He found my name, plan, SS#, doc, Medicare #, medications, give-back plan. Told me he could add dental at no extra cost to existing plan & could upgrade my exist plan at no extra cost to AARP UHC. Of course I agreed. Plan went into effect.
The only thing I recall different was that my specialist copay from $45 to $40. In 2 of 2025 I rec a letter from SS telling me that b/c of my health ins choice not only were they deducting the $185 mo, like everyone on Medicare, they were taking out another $119 mo. UHC was also not giving me the give-back of $72 that was promised. Spencer at UHC lied. I called UHC they told me it was too late to go back to my give-back plan & just add dental. After being switched from dept to dept, rep to rep, sup to sup, cust serv to sales & back, several told me that it was the decision of the SS Admin to decide if they could allow UHC to switch me back to my original plan.
They informed me that SS Admin has access to the recorded tele calls at UHC between us & they could listen in & decide. Yeah right! So I made an appt with SS. SS man flat out told me & my husband that UHC had committed fraud against me. He told me to call the BBB. He said UHC is a private ins co. we have no access to their calls.
I called Ohio Dept of Ins Fraud & Enforcement Division. An investigation is underway. I filed two verbal griev w UHC. Jennifer w UHC 855-873-2369 x 641270 called me. She took notes, called abt a week later. She said her sup, LISTENED, to the tele recorded sales conver I had with SPENCER. Her supervisor, KEN G, won't give his last name, said I said ok & signed online contract for the policy. So answer NO, I can't have what I asked SPENCER for, & what he told me he was giving me.
KEN G of UHC has the nerve to sit behind his desk & listen to a taped tele recording between me & his sales rep. He can stand behind a contract that I ele signed but didn't see, & at the same time totally ignore what was verbally-contractually agreed to & make an honest decision about the livelihood of one of his customers for his own gain. Then he hides behind his subordinate, JENNIFER, & tells her to tell me, NO, she said the customer said, ok, & signed a contract w UHC & MEDICARE Advan to take out extra money from her SS income & take away her Give-back plan so she can have dental now. That's exactly the kind of man KEN G is at UHC that won't give his last name. I asked JENNIFER to ask him to send me a transcript & a recording of the conversation. Then told her to never mind, I knew what the answer would be. She was so understanding and so sorry. YEAH RIGHT!
A BIG FAT warning to anyone that is thinking of purchasing a policy of any kind from UHC don't do it! They are taking money from my SS every month to the tune of $119 a month that's $1,428.00 of my hard earned money a year. My house payment just went up $98 a month due to taxes and homeowners ins. Thank you, UHC! Oh, and my ins lady that drove across town to sell me UHC lost her commission to SPENCER. I hope everyone understands this long review. The most important thing to take from it is the lack of complete and total integrity that this company doesn't have. If you can't tell the customer the truth from the beginning it tells you mountains of what's to come if you happen to go beyond your normal filing of a claim.
I'm a victim of fraud. I was humiliated by this company, by embarrassment & financially. I filed complaints with the BBB, Dept of Health & Humana Services Office of Inspector General, called the State Health Ins Assistance Program & Medicare. I'm not stopping until I'm satisfied I've been heard and compensated. Not my only review. All because SPENCER wants commission & KEN G doesn't have a bone in his back & their minority-immigrant employees are trained to lie. Shame on UHC. Linda **

I am writing this review to express my deep disappointment and frustration with United Healthcare's handling of my wife's Multiple Sclerosis (MS) treatment approval. After receiving all necessary approvals in advance, United Healthcare canceled her treatment at the last minute, causing significant distress and disruption to her health management.
My wife has been battling MS, a chronic and debilitating condition, for several years. Her treatment plan, which was meticulously crafted by her neurologist, included a specific medication that had shown promising results in managing her symptoms. We diligently followed all the required procedures, submitted the necessary documentation, and received prior authorization from United Healthcare for the treatment.
However, just 1 day before her scheduled treatment, we were informed that United Healthcare had revoked the approval. This abrupt decision was made without any clear explanation or consideration of the impact it would have on my wife's health. The cancellation not only caused her physical and emotional distress but also undermined the trust we had placed in our healthcare provider.
The lack of transparency and communication from United Healthcare is unacceptable. We were left scrambling to find alternative solutions, which delayed her treatment and exacerbated her condition. This experience has highlighted the flaws in United Healthcare's approval process and their disregard for the well-being of their patients.
I urge United Healthcare to review their policies and procedures to prevent such incidents from happening in the future. Patients with chronic conditions like MS rely on timely and consistent access to their treatments. The last-minute cancellation of approved treatments is not only disruptive but also potentially harmful. In conclusion, I am deeply disappointed with United Healthcare's handling of my wife's treatment approval. I hope that by sharing our experience, we can bring attention to the need for better communication, transparency, and patient care within the organization.

I called to enroll for the next year and explained I wanted the same plan. They said it wasn’t exactly the same plan but very similar and enrolled me for the 2025 year. I have used Humana, Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and United is by far the worst most impossible insurance company. Their estimates are always drastically off. For instance with Humana or Aetna the estimated cost was usually right or I may owe 30-50 dollars after a procedure. But whatever they quoted for a procedure was usually pretty accurate so I pay and then forget about it. United tells me an x-ray costs a thousand dollars. So I pay it and then they bill me later for another thousand because their estimate was off. Bloodwork is 200 dollars so I pay that and then get bills for 30, 70, 80, 120 for MONTHS because 'their estimate was off'. I never had this issue with any other insurance and IT WAS THE SAME PROVIDERS.
They do not cover cancer screenings or yearly wellness exams. They do not cover any medication without a prior authorization - even cheap generics that you can get for 20 bucks with no insurance. This company kills so many people after taking so much of their check for insurance. I am pretty sure they skew your estimates so you will do the procedure. I would never consent to a 2k x-ray but I did pay for an x-ray with a 1k estimate. Of course they demand I pay the next 1000 and just say the estimate was off. It is a bait and switch - very scummy. I needed multiple reconstruction surgeries to repair my defect (1st one covered by Kaiser and the next 4 were covered by a production group who filmed the surgeries and had fellow doctors involved to help learn how to reconstruct a very complex case as mine). When I moved to Florida we changed our coverage to United Health Care. UHC approved my claim but kept pushing back on information they needed from a missing W9 that they wanted from the physician, to codes and units for anesthetic etc. I resubmitted and my physician's office resubmitted paperwork multiple times, and we called them at least every 4 weeks for updates.
Today, January 29, 2025 I called to follow up and they now tell me that this reconstruction surgery was not covered by my plan and has been denied. Not only am I out of pocket for this expensive surgery which was provided to me at a discounted cash pay rate by my physician (reconstructive scar revision and fat graph to build up tissue to help with my breathing), I spent days and hours of my time and the physician's office staff time to follow up with everything they dragged out multiple times, on trying to get this claim paid.
They should be embarrassed and ashamed to charge what they do for insurance and then not cover unexpected surgical costs for something like Cancer Reconstruction especially when they didn't even have to pay for most of my surgeries. If this type of cancer reconstruction surgery was not covered, which is ridiculous in itself, the very least they could have done was deny it back in May of 2024 rather than stringing us along for almost a year and make us spend even more money on courier/postage and print costs of sending them a repeat of claim information over and over again. I find them a complete fraud.

Well over the past year my A1c has gone up and since the out of pocket went down to 2k for Rx, I decided to go back on **. The Other Rx companies (i.e. Wellcare, Cigna, etc...) were $1,800 - 2,000.
For the past month now I have dozens of calls to Optum, UHC, my Doctor, Walgreens. The ** was "unavailable" and they did not know when they would get it, even after I jumped through hoops to get it "pre authorized". I was instructed from Optum that "if" I needed the ** that I should go to my local Pharmacy. I did and Walgreens filled the order in less than 24 hours.... But now I pay more because it is not coming from Optum.... UHC will not credit me the difference even though it was not my choice to go to Walgreens and pay more.... In my 50 plus years of being medically insured I have never spent this much time on Rx as I have in the last month, the customer service was like talking to deer in the headlights. They talk from Computer screen prompts and continually recap and the recap is all wrong.... I will be going back to Wellcare next January 1st and get away from this nightmare of a company.

I have been billed by my medical practices for services I did not have then points to the claims statement (where the services weren't covered) and tells me I must pay. When I try to call UHC Medicare Supplement Customer Service, I always get a representative located outside the USA with a poor connection and where I struggle to understand them. In addition, all 3 times I called, the agent refused to help me by escalating the call to a supervisor. This is not acceptable as I can not get any help. UHC hires reps in the USA for sales purposes, but then offshores the critical part of Customer Service for their clients. Very very poor service.

My partner just switched to United Healthcare and she has Type 1 Diabetes and has been using Dexcom CGM for years. With Blue Cross Blue Shield the process was quick and easy, with the patient's needs, life, and worries in mind. United Healthcare however, has made her go through hoops for weeks. They don’t trust her doctor, they delay any work on their end, and they definitely do not consider the patient. She’s been out of Dexcom CGMs for more than a week and is having unhealthily high blood sugar throughout the night (>200), and is scared to go on group bike rides, because it’s not feasible to stop and check blood sugar while the group rides off into the distance.
I just learned that United Healthcare is one of the largest for-profit companies and prioritizes cost containment and shareholder profits. This is not the society I want and I don’t know why anyone else would. Choose a patient-focused insurance company that moves our society forward, not backward. You pay these insane costs to have insurance however they don't want to cover anything! My son is in need of a MRI for his back he had a fall and CT shows a compressed fracture in his spine so Dr ordered a MRI thinking he may have an issue with his disk. Well United Healthcare stated they have only had the paperwork which is under review. FLAT OUT LIE, after speaking with the Dr the paperwork was sent on Jan 15th which of course they DENIED!!
They wanted more proof so Dr sent over 9 pages of proof as to why he needs the MRI, which was sent on the 16th. So they not only denied the first request, they lied about getting the paperwork on the 16th. Once they were called out on it, they said well it's going to take up to 15 days to see if approved! They are absolutely the worst of the worst and has been proven to have the highest denial rate! I know people who work for them and even agree they are the worst. I only give one star because I had to select something. Literally the worst insurance company I’ve ever had. You should get United Healthcare if you want to pay triple the cost for your prescription than if you were to pay out of pocket with zero insurance. Doctors visits are even worse. Please don’t waste your money like I did. Read this and you’ll have the opportunity of learning from my mistake. Originally going into the doctor's office the doctor acts like everything is ok as if there’s no issue and then months later you will receive a ridiculous bill for things that make you scratch your head in confusion, let me be clear, the issue is not the doctor, it’s United healthcare.

My employer switched from wonderful insurance to United Healthcare this year in an effort to control costs. United Healthcare told us that our existing prescriptions would be grandfathered in and would not require preauthorization. The time came for refills, so I contacted them to get everything set up. I am diabetic and working hard to get off of medication (more on this in a minute), but still take two prescriptions. United Healthcare covered the far less expensive diabetes medication without question, but denied a preauthorization (that I wasn't supposed to need) for a second one. They did not give a reason, just told me that I needed to talk to my doctor about treatment alternatives. Being very annoyed, I contacted them and asked for a reason for the denial... get this ...they told me (after paying for one diabetes medication) that there was no proof in my records that I am diabetic.
I notified my doctor, who sent proof and a second preauthorization (that I wasn't supposed to need) was approved after I pointed this out and asked whether or not I needed to elevate the matter. Until last month, I was on a program that has helped me greatly reduce my dependence on medications to control my diabetes via a medically supervised nutrition plan. My last insurance covered it. Had I not switched, it was likely that I would no longer need medications by June of this year. Surprise... United Healthcare doesn't cover it. I dropped them earlier this week for the VA (!) and moved my family to my wife's insurance. It was readily apparent after listening to the drama around the office how things are going to be. Good riddance to bad rubbish!

For more than 10 years they don't accept new insurance providers officially trying to find all the excuses to make the life of their patients more miserable. Patients have to leave this network because they cannot work with providers they chose and the providers are not accepted to the network. I think all providers who have ever experienced United Healthcare bad practices should discuss it and write the collective letter to NJ senator and ask for thorough investigation of what is going on with United Healthcare in New Jersey.

I went to one of the recommended chiropractors from UHC list of providers. To my surprise, I was charged for the consultation, the “exam” and the “treatment“ on top of the copay. I got home and called UHC for an explanation of the chiropractic coverage and what does exactly the copay covers. After more than two hours on the phone, passed around from advocate to supervisors without a clear answer even from the amount of the copay (went from $15 to $50 until finally I was informed it was $20 a visit).
I was then sent out to a person who sells the UHC plans for an explanation. Well, for the copay you get a name. You pay yourself for the consult, the exam and the treatment. What does it cover? Only a manual manipulation of the spine after you paid for the consult, exam and any other “treatment” he does before and after the spinal manual manipulation. I told them I will never use their chiropractors ever again. I am better off just paying the whole thing on my own since many offer free consultation and I could save on the copay.
BTW. My first and last chiropractor visit took less than 15 minutes. I went in at 3 pm and by 3:20 I was in my car. The exam/consultation was a chat of about 5 minutes. He spent 30 seconds rubbing my neck, 15 seconds with a massage vibrator, maybe 10 seconds going over the spine with a little pressure tool and a couple of minutes with a heating pad going in and out of the room to get his tools. When that was done he suggested that I come back again in 3-4 days. That was it! Even worse is that as I left the parking lot the pain returned really strong to a point my friend offered to drive me home. A total waste of time and money!!!!

I would give 0 stars if I could. In fact, negative stars if it was possible. Has really sucked the joy out of my life. I've been paying for my birth control for like a year, when apparently it was supposed to be covered in full this whole time. It was costing me, a broke college student, $60 a month when it was supposed to be free. I call them, ask hey, why can I get this covered? Yes, they say, it can be covered if we get a PA from your doctor's office. My doctors sends it. United Health Care cancels it. I ask them why they cancel. No, they say, it was your doctor. No, actually, it wasn't, my office shows me that it says it was their end. Then United Healthcare says wait, actually it's because they weren't specific that your medication is for contraceptive purposes. Okay, my doctor changes it, is that better, United Healthcare?
No, it's not, we actually need a letter of exemption for you medication to be free. Why would you need a PA? You don't need that. We never said that. Yes, actually, you did, but it's whatever. I call my doctor's office again. They call the number to get the letter of exemption. Hey, this is the doctor's office. My patient said she needs this for her birth control to be covered. Oh, no, she doesn't need anything. You don't need to give us anything. It should just be covered. You don't need to call us. My doctor asks multiple times. They insist they don't need anything from them.
My doctor's office tells me the news. I call United Healthcare. Hey, so this is what my doctor told me, can it be covered now? Hey, so no, you actually need a PA and a letter of exemption. Then why are they telling my doctor's office differently? Why do I get told something different every time I call? You're not. You need a PA and a letter of exemption. Of course, you don't have to do all that if you are just okay continuing to pay.
I gave up. I am about to see if my college can provide me with birth control at a cheaper cost. Will the change probably make my acne come back and make my hormones a disaster for the next few weeks? Yes, probably. But I would rather risk that than have to deal with this pitiful mistake of an insurance company any more. Thanks for wasting my time and money and adding on to my stress, and either lying of just having no clue what you are saying to me or my doctor. Worst health insurance there is.

I’m 81 and I do not have a mobile phone and not going to have it. I can accept a code on my home phone or as email on my PC. Whose “ingenious” idea was to limit old people with use of only mobile phone instead of creating a user-friendly environment? All other companies offer a choice of text, phone call or email. What is the reason to give hard time to people with number of health problems?

My experience with UHC has been the worst experience I've ever had with customer service. They have several numbers for each department. We applied for a medicare advantage plan on Dec 5 for my M-I-L and when her card did not arrive within 3 weeks we tried calling to see what was going on. Call 1 - (about a week later) I was on the phone for 1 hour an 15 minutes, where I had to conference my MIL in. The agent told us not to worry about the application and that everything should go through and she should be receiving a card soon, and even if the application was not completed, she would still received a card. He also said, check your inbox, you should get an email update. The problem, he told me, was that I should not have applied through Medicare.gov and instead through their website.
Call 2 After roughly another week with no email update, we called again (by this time the enrollment period had ended). After 2 transfers and 1 hour and 5 minutes, they finally found her application. Again I had to conference her in to give permission for us to get a status. They again said it was still in the process and not to worry. They told us a Dr had to certify her condition. They couldn't tell me which doctor they were reaching out to to do that (either her pcp or her specialist). I expressed concern because I didn't remember putting her pcp or specialist on her application. Call 3 (later that week) was 30 minutes, and again with a Sales person, who was unable to help me because they could not find the application, but who also told me not to worry and to call back in a couple of days.
Call 4 (the week of xmas) was over 2 1/2 hours. Still no email update and I was unable to use the software to sign her up for an account (she doesn't have a computer or smart phone). After finding the application and conferencing in my MIL, they were still unable to give me the name of the Dr who they were seeking certification from because in his words "We sent a letter to your mother in law requesting that she get the certification, We don't call doctors, it's her responsibility to provide the certification". This is the first time, I heard that we needed to provide the certification. My MIL received no such letter. We had no idea. She received no email updates. The application process was a black hole. After finally getting this information (what else don't we know), we contacted the Dr. office who then faxed the proof of her condition to UHC (to the fax number they provided me with) on Dec 30.
5th Call (Jan 10) After waiting a little over a weeks (Jan 10) (we expected a delay to holidays) I called UHC to get the status of the application. It had been denied and they could not tell me why despite my Husband being POA. I spent 1 hour and 12 minutes on the phone and was disconnected twice. My husband spent 45 minutes on the phone with them and was disconnected once.
As a result, we will need to go through the application process again which means she does not have drug coverage this month. She is on a tier 3 life saving drugs and we can't afford to wait another month of uncertainty. Do they care that their incompetence is life-threatening? The "don't worry" attitude is really condescending. The mixed messages, lack of clear instruction and changing stories every time we call make me not trust this company at all. As an aside. I get my health insurance through my company. This year they switched from Aetna to UHC. I opted to go onto my husband's health care instead and very glad that I did. I hope I never have to choose UHC in the future because of a job.

And I pay for all of my lab work, which is a lot if you have chronic health issues and need your lab drawn at every appointment. If you call the company themselves, they are no help and honestly, I am not surprised about what happened to the CEO. They run a company based on denying the services that people are paying them to provide and show that they do not care about human lives at all.
Would avoid at all cost. It is literally the worst insurance I’ve ever had in my entire life. Unfortunately it’s also the only insurance my employer provides. I'm starting to see why people dislike United Health and I can understand why the CEO got killed.

I signed up through a phone call and I added vision and dental. And when I went to use my dental it turns out it’s for children, and not adults! So I spent two hours getting transferred from one representative to another in which my call got dropped after 17 minutes on hold each time.

Spent the day yesterday on the phone with 3 different support people and none showed care or empathy. They did not listen to my concerns and each one only seemed as though they wanted to finish the call so they could move on to the next one.

1) They will require you to get a pre-authorization for many medications (some basic) that have never needed pre-auths under other insurers.
2) They deny almost everything. They wouldn't give me one basic med I'd been on for 15 yrs without getting a pre-auth (Dr was even confused). They also denied my generic maintenance medication I take for a chronic condition that is the standard of care for that disease and is not experimental. Wound up needing to go through a non profit (after 6 months fighting them) to obtain my meds despite paying them twice as much in premiums as other insurers (none of which have ever denied that medication).
3) Everyone I work with has had such a negative experience with United and we all complained to our employer/HR so much that thankfully we won't be using them again this year.
Final thoughts: I've had health insurance with many of the big health insurers and United is by far the most predatory and dangerous. I got lucky, others may not. Stay away!

After receiving a letter last year from UHC stating I was eligible to get a $75 reward for a housecalls visit, I made an appointment for 12/13/2024 for me and my husband. We had the 2 visits on 12/13/24 and were told that she had to document visits and we would receive the reward in about 7 days. My husband got his but after dozens of calls I’m being told by UHC that I wasn’t eligible. So no reward. No one can tell me why I wasn’t eligible and I feel UHC is a scam company for baiting and switching. I would like a clarification about this since I was multiple times that it was on its way to my account. UHC, are you corrupt?

The call center agents seem all to be absolutely incompetent. I think they all just learn to read a script. I called 4 times to confirm my insurance is going to be active first of January because I had a dentist appointment scheduled. All 4 agents gave me false information. I had to speak 2 times to supervisors who finally had accurate information. Even when my dentist called the provider number those agents are absolutely incompetent to help. They can't confirm my dental insurance because they are looking only in a medical database. Instead of transferring the dentist to the dental department. Because even I can see in the provider lookup my in network dentist and all my dental benefits. Their knowledge is just as what you can see yourself. I never had an insurance that has such incompetent staffs!
