My two pear trees were hit by lightning last summer and State Farm sent someone out immediately to assess and help take care of the problem. They helped me find someone to cut down the remainder of the tree and haul it away as well as someone to help make repairs to my house and deck. Once the work was done a check was promptly sent to cover their share of the costs.

My brother's home was recently damaged by a tornado that struck his subdivision on Halloween morning in San Marcos, Texas. He had significant roof damage on both his home and garage. His front door was broken in half and broke open. His front sidewalk is cracked and because of the force of the tornado and the windows bulging in and out, the stone around the windows cracked. He had many trees down and we, his family did the clean up. Because it continued to storm that weekend, my niece's bedroom ceiling gave way bring the sheetrock and insulation down on top of her while she slept. An adjuster with State Farm out of Wimberley, Texas came out a few days later.
To date, nothing has been settled. State Farm sent him a check for $7,000.00 and misspelled his name on it. That amount will not cover the roof on his home. He has had 3 contractors come out and provide estimates to State Farm - to no avail. These estimates are running anywhere from $20 - 22,000.00. He has tiles on his roof and has told them he will settle for shingles as they don't make his roofing tiles anymore. Now, he had an adjuster come out and take a roof tile for analysis??? He was told it would be another week. He is frustrated and can't get a straight answer from his agent or anyone in the company. The weather isn't cooperating. He is a single parent, handicapped and our elderly mother resides with him. I have a few pictures that I took with my cell the day I went over to help with the clean up. I will attach. State Farm you are not there and you aren't a good neighbor!!!

I have had two claims with very little problem. The first was a hailstorm that hit the entire area. Almost everyone's roof had to be replaced. State Farm replaced it with no questions. The second was at a dog park when my dog ran into a lady, who broke her leg when falling. Again, State Farm handled the claim without any questions. My only issue was that they suggested that I go to their website to determine how to reduce my possibility of having to file a claim. Obviously, both of the incidents were out of my control.

I have only filed one claim and received a prompt call from a adjuster and the work was done quickly and to my satisfaction. I also received a follow up call asking whether the workers were nice and trustworthy and if I would recommend them to other State Farm customers. I really liked that issue for I would not want someone working on my home that didn't do a good job for others. I do plan on staying with my company.

We've had the same homeowners insurance company for around 15 years. Never had a claim, rates seem to stay competitive. I'm glad we have it, however, I do wish insurance companies would simplify their contracts. This is why most people hate insurance. Back in July 2004, our small home caught fire. They determined it started in basement, mostly smoke damage but still had to be boarded up. 2 days later, was 4th of July and home was vandalized and was reset on fire because of the prompt "we thought great service" action by FAKE FARM. Boy I remember telling ex-wife how great FAKE FARMS was treating us. The rented a fully furnished apartment for 6 months, we received voucher checks, also food/clothes vouchers. Those 6 months went by fast but the insurance detector started making false insinuations about who they were suspecting had set fire, asking me about my wife at time and did I think she was capable, also asking her same questions about me.
The apartment was re-rented for another 6 months. After a little while we really was getting impatient and wondering what the hell was going on. So I started making calls to them demanding that they need to settle. We had done everything they asked of us to do and why are they not moving forward. Suddenly I got a call from detective and was told they weren't paying the claim nor paying another month's rent, had like 15 days to move out apartment. My wife and I had really been going thru a bad struggle. We absolutely didn't have a pot to piss in and our property was by now being foreclosed up on. My wife at the time had problems with a previous surgery and they had to perform another. I did my best to find an attorney, the few that did give us time of day wanted $3500 just to look at all documents. We had to file a lawsuit, couldn't pay it.
I also hadn't been working and since I'm retired because of disability from sickle cell disease and waiting on judgement for SSD to be approved. I was able to get help and save property from sale. Also I filed bankruptcy and in 2005 my marriage was dissolved. I would have just allowed property to be sold in auction but we had a small farm with several horses here and really it was all I had to my name. I since then have been in a serious depression. My home sits over in the shadows of hell.
A few years back, I myself was able and blessed to do repair on the major damage that occurred to the house. Was fortunate and blessed to get a gift of a 60' x 14' mobile home that I myself hauled here on property. Sat on the existing concrete pads and installed all hardware and equipment to move in. A true blessing no doubt, but we lost close to 250,000 dollars. They also dropped all vehicles, motorcycles and boat from being covered without notification.
My pride, faith and judgment was so ruined we had put trust and admiration in knowing we had built a rapport with FAKE FARM. Had been a trusted client for well over 15 years. We even kept our renter's insurance, added 20% to our existing coverage to make certain we were covered if something happened. We also were a young couple, this was our first home and didn't have the money, knowledge or experience to do nothing about anything. I was so stressed, I had been hospitalized that year alone 32 times. We couldn't understand or did we fathom the true repercussions of their actions.
I know and feel that FAKE FARM willingly knew and blatantly took full advantage of our situation with our marriage, ignorance, finances, sickness and hospitalizations. This one instance has dramatically changed the course and momentum of our entire lives. FAKE FARM will one day harm and hijack the wrong family and catch the wrath I did so much want to deliver. I'm a decent hard working person, I've always dealt and treated people with the utmost respect. If anyone or someone that can truly help our situation out in any kind of way, we would be honored to appreciate it Thank you all. "SINK, SWIM OR SUFFER"

Where do I start? I live in the Midwest where we were hit with an ice storm of the century several years ago. Ice covered utility and phone cables came down, trees toppled, massive tree limbs fell on property and the existing public services could not possibly keep up. In some cases, people had no heat for weeks in the midst of severe cold. Utility companies had to call on outside help from surrounding states in order to assist. In the midst of this chaos, I managed to reach my State Farm agent and there were people at my home within a week. Considering the circumstances in such a widespread area, that was a phenomenal response.
These were outsourced reps from a Southern state with limited experience driving or walking on ice or snow. I saw them walking around my home, taking photos and repeatedly falling on the ice and yet they persevered. They had surely had a very long day before even getting to my house. In spite of the layer of snow, ice and fallen trees and tree limbs, these guys knew what to look for: the damaged garage door, the damaged roof, the gutters that had been ripped off the house, the cracked window, the damaged fencing, the collapsed front porch, etc. They managed to see it all. They were incredibly helpful and asked a lot of questions designed to help me understand just what my homeowner's insurance covered and that included alternative housing and replacement food. I don't know what I would have done without them. State Farm came through like a champion in this situation. I will never have another insurance company except for State Farm.

If it was up to me and my home was paid for, I would not have homeowner's insurance. My neighbor has a tree that is over my privacy fence and he will not cut this tree. In the summer, some of the branches from this tree fell into my central air unit and cost me $300 to fix. State Farm said that this amount could go toward my deductible but they want to wait until the rest of the tree falls and destroys my whole system. This is completely idiotic to me and I consider this as preventative maintenance.
I eventually hired someone to cut the top out of this tree and I ended up taking my sorry neighbor to small claims court to recover some of the costs inferred over this incident and what made me super mad was the fact that when I got into court, this inconsiderate neighbor wanted to know why I did not have all of the tree cut down. Hey, fool, this tree is on your property and hangs over my 8 ft. high privacy fence. I did not charge this idiot for the damage to my privacy fence. State Farm is not my first choice for homeowners insurance. In 10 years I have never filed a claim but I pay for this service every year.

We had a new dishwasher installed improperly and for a month leaked water into the wall and under the floor. After discovery of the problem, we contacted State Farm. Our claims team representative rudely told us first thing, "We do not cover any mold or rot." Then, we were told we could not be placed in a hotel just because we lost our kitchen, had 3 kids, and exposed wires. I had to state my husband was a disabled vet and then establish a "valid reason" of why we had to go to a hotel. After two weeks of staying at a hotel, the clean up was completed. All of work was not yet completed. State Farm claims told us to go back to the house until we could obtain a work order. Then we could go back to the hotel.
We live in a high new construction area. The claim department is rude. I felt it was wrong and unfair to have us live in a home with no kitchen with exposed wires and three small kids. What's worse, the team seemed to gleefully enjoy going over our bad circumstances and deny us a place to stay because we have to establish a reason... and losing a kitchen, having 3 kids and exposed wires is not enough. I plan to get new home insurance as soon as possible.

I have been a client of State Farm for many, many years. I recently had a kitchen fire and much to my surprise was told that my homeowner's policy had been raised from $1000 to $2500. Apparently this was done across the board two years prior by including some small notice in the renewal. Now, I receive tons of notices from State Farm because I have all my policies with them. So after all these years I do not read all the small print. Granted that is my fault. However, I expect my agent to pick up the phone and alert me that my deductible is more than doubling! It is going up 250 Percent! When I finally got a hold of him (took 10 days) he gave me this song and dance as to how it was across the board and that in retrospect he should have called his clients personally, blah blah, blah.
As to my disgust at the fact that he had not returned my calls for 10 days he started giving excuses that it's bad timing at the agency; he's short of staff, that sort of thing. Am thoroughly disgusted with this company - I had my car, home, umbrella, life insurance and investments with them and this is how I get treated. Thanks but no thanks.

I was alerted by a neighbor that the people who were renting had left. I had to take off work and travel to see the house. I was shocked beyond belief. The house was demolished, it was flea infested, just a total wreck. I had to remove a lot of abandoned junk. I had the house appraised and again. I was shocked 50k in damage... The house could not be rented or sold. Damage was painted and filthy carpet, holes in the walls, broken windows and doors, missing draws in kitchen cabinet, blades missing or broken on all the ceiling fans, light fixtures damaged. This is just a small description of the damages (oh almost forgot damaged sub floor in the basement 25k to repair by itself).
I filed a claim and it seemed as if state farm insurance understood and that I was in good hands. Oh no. They played on words. I lost my stove, refrigerator, 2 window a/c units, washer and dryer, which was supposed to stay with the house. I thought I would be covered. Oh no the tenants took them. Took/stolen to me the same thing not to state farm. Stolen is took by force entry, taken. Well they took it, again I'm out. State farm denied my claim stating the renter abused the house due to hard living. I sent before and after photos to see I could get some type of help... Oh no they don't care. We had a home robbery and called the State Farm local office asking for the agent who we had originally contacted to get insurance. We were told "he is no longer here." So firstly, no one called us to give us a new agent, then when we called, the people in the local office said that they could meet with us in two days and said that we could talk to the national office. The national office required us to prove receipts for everything we claimed including small jewelry that my wife had collected over time (no single item was expensive, but all together they were worth around $300). After all of our items were totaled and we were required to provide receipts for every possible item, including gifts, they were largely devalued (even items we had less than 1 year).
I understand that you should provide some kind of evidence of owning an item, but they asked us to provide things like pictures of us with those items!!! Our carpet was also damaged and they will not pay for the cleaning. Overall, we have not had a good experience with this company and will be switching once the claim is closed. What is the point in paying a premium when you do have a claim and you are not helped or compensated properly.

Yesterday I received my check back in full without any explanation why, so I called and they said since I live in a hurricane area they have to cancel my insurance and I have to find someone else by the end of the month... Now I don't live on the water so Flood Insurance is not needed though I can see the water. State Farm told me after a month the underwriter googled the area and said I was in a hurricane area. WELL isn't everyone on the Eastern Seaboard... Thanks STATE FARM. I will pass on your horrible business practices to everyone in a timely manner just like you canceled me without an explanation.

I have been with State Farm for 38 years and two years ago I had my first homeowners claim when a pipe broke inside my house and flooded. They degraded my repairs by how old my house was so 1500 sq ft they gave me 1/2 and now I have been told I am uninsurable. One claim and now I will take my autos somewhere else. Reviews show all companies deny claims but they tell you after one claim they can't insure you is incredible.

In November 2013 my house caught fire, the fire originated in the chimney. The house burned down and it was a total loss. The fire marshal inspected and it was determined to be an ACCIDENT. We were displaced for nearly a year while the house was rebuilt and contents replaced. I have had State Farm Insurance for nearly 30 years and after going through the trauma of a fire and losing all of my possessions, State Farm is canceling my policy!! Once you've been cancelled, it is impossible to obtain insurance from another company. I've been forced to get insurance by a state program which is going to cost me about an extra thousand dollars a year.
Additionally, I have a dock on my property that NOBODY will insure. So, after losing everything, State Farm cancels my policy. I have to pay more money for forced insurance or lose my house. Will have to remove my dock and won't be able to use my boat. How in the world can this be allowed to happen??? Beware consumers, even if you have paid into State Farm your entire adult life, and a tragedy strikes, you too will be dropped and forced to endure even more stress and trauma.

Recently filed a claim for water that had seeped into my basement. When I filed I was basically told that the claim would not be covered but I would be contacted in 48 hours. 5 days later when I complained that I had not been contacted, an agent called and later she and another individual came out to the home and immediately told me that I was not covered for water in the basement. I never received a written summary of denial or for that matter a statement of actually came to my home. Damages are over $7,000. I have had State Farm for over 10 yrs and have only had one small claim in all of the years. I feel my agent and State Farm dropped the ball on customer satisfaction. It is when a customer is in most need that this type of company turns their back. Very disappointed and now looking for a new insurance company.

I see that many of you are having bad experiences with State Farm. If you are comparing their rates, challenging them with competitive quotes or planning on moving to another insurance carrier, you will find much resistance from them. As my homes and vehicles got older our rates kept going up and up. We finally decided to compare with other companies and found we were paying more than double what we should be.
I have been with State Farm for over 5 years and have insured my primary residence, rental properties, as well as multiple vehicles through Jonathan Ritchie's Office. In all that time, there had NEVER been a claim on our homes so we were their "ideal" customer. I had recently been married and my wife and I were looking to consolidate our homes and vehicles under one insurance policy. In June of 2014 my Annual State Farm Homeowners policy was paid automatically from escrow by our lender. We completed our research in November and had decided to move our Home/Auto Insurance policies to another carrier because their rates were less than half of what I was already paying through State Farm. At that same time we decided to also take advantage of the lower interest rates so we refinanced with our same lender.
While working on our 2014 taxes we realized we had never been refunded by State Farm for the unused insurance. Shortly after that, we received our annual Homeowners renewal notice from State Farm for 2015-16. I contacted my representative Craig ** at Jonathan Ritchie's State Farm office to find out why my cancellation was not processed. Craig said he just needed the new insurance carrier's Declarations page showing the policy initiation date in order for our policy to be backdated and a refund processed. We immediately emailed the requested document and followed up with a phone call a week later to check status. We were told these things can take time and we should just "sit tight". We waited OVER TWO MONTHS with NO phone calls, emails or any other form of communication from Jonathan Ritchie's office.
So we, ONCE AGAIN, had to initiate contact for an update. We emailed Craig then followed up with a phone call, spoke with the receptionist and was told Craig would "be in touch". The following day Craig emailed us denying our refund. He noted in his email that State Farm's policy is to not refund customers when they leave them and switch to other insurance carriers. He acknowledged in his email that we did contact him in November, but, he said it was only to advise him that we were refinancing and we didn't mention anything about canceling our policy. That's not true. When we contacted him we had already initiated a policy with Allstate which began in November.
The reason we called was to cancel our policy, not to advise them of a refinance which would be meaningless to him since we had already moved to another insurance carrier. What he said makes absolutely no sense at all. We don't have to notify our insurance carrier that we have refinanced when we retain the same lender. It's their word against ours and State Farm Corporate doesn't care to step in since we are no longer their customer. Bottom line, BEWARE OF STATE FARM AND THE JONATHAN RITCHIE OFFICE!!! No matter how much they acknowledge your cancellation request over the phone, put your cancellation in writing. Their word over the phone means nothing...

I took out a renters policy out in 2009 with state farm after moving from my home I owned. My belongings were scattered between a storage building, since I was downsizing to my townhouse we were moving into. I need 25,000.00 worth of insurance & asked if I needed an additional policy for the storage building. Cindy ** answered with these exact words, "No. Your items are covered regardless of where they are." I lived there 5 years & decided to move into a home. After 1 month, the outside bldg got broke into. My old Toro & weed eater were stolen. I did not report this. 2 months later my home was broken into & EVERYTHING was taken, plus vandalized. They used mustard & chocolates milk ruining my furniture.
I called STATE FARM the next day. Because it was over a $5,000 claim we had to file a claim with the head office. When they asked where it happened, I gave them my new address. They denied the claim stating I had moved & not informed them of the move. I argued that they did not cover the structure but the contents. I argued that I was told by Cindy **'s office that my contents were covered, it did not matter where. I had over $10,000.00 in theft. I had lived in the new house less than 6 months. I could have lied to them & said I was in the same place but instead I was honest. State Farm will not speak to me nor would my agent Cindy ** in Norman Oklahoma fight for me. She will take my money for years but she NEVER go to bat for me. For 6 years they got their premiums & I never had any claims with them. I was the model insured, I never called & always paid them on time. I, however, was not treated with the same respect.

My old agent retired and so my new one sent me a letter two months ago stating "I am looking forward to providing you with outstanding customer service". I recently had a neighbor run over my fence and run into my garage with a bobcat performing construction on his property next to mine. My home is out of state where I have my father live so it is hard for me to meet with my neighbor. So I called my agent to at least get a consult on the situation in case my neighbor does not make good on repairs. I left two phone messages and sent one detailed email with pictures. I have had zero response from my agent and have been totally ignored. They sure were responsive when I opened the policy. Hmmmm - time for another company.

Stay away from State Farm. We were denied a claim of water damage due to a wax ring and seal on the toilet. They stated that the damage was caused by wear and tear and therefore not covered. They expect you to remove the toilet and replace those every year. Be warned. If you do and a leak occurs, they will not pay for that either because the plumber is responsible. Seems they always have an excuse to not pay. Remember, Jake is in sales, not claims!!

I Thought This Was America and you Could have and do what you want with your property where you live. I live in the country and I have to have farm animals for food because I don't get food stamps. I work at and I'm not rich. I have the right to have farm animals and farm shelters for my animals that I have so my children and I can eat. I also have the right to have recycling containers so I don't put the recycling stuff in a landfill. It is kept neatly. Our neighbors on both sides of us have pallets they are going to use for shelters for animals also and also have State Farm. I have lived here since I was in grade school and a State Farm person has never come out to take pictures of the house and yard.
STATE FARM HERE IS A NEWS FLASH - YOU DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT IN AMERICA TO TELL ME WHAT I CAN OR CAN'T HAVE IN MY YARD. I live here not you. It is also not a valid reason to do the insurance. Kind of surprising you didn't start crying until a storm ruined the roof and now after a claim you want to whine and complain. Here is a news flash - I have a right to have whatever I want in my yard and if you void insurance will probably see me in court.

We had a dishwasher that had a hose that had water flowing out of it under my kitchen cabinets. Since there was no tile under the cabinets, there was a canal under the cabinets. We did not notice the water for months at which time there was significant mold growth both on the cabinets and the drywall. State Farm came out and decided that the water probably started as a leak and then turned into a steady flow due to the amount of mold growth. Their policies say they don't cover "leak or seepage". They denied the claim. They also stated that they do not cover mold of any kind. We contacted a number of mold remediation companies and all said State Farm was awful in coverage of claims. They said that only Farmers was worse. We were told that many companies would cover it and USAA was the best.
I have had a house insured with State Farm for over 30 years and I have had car insurance with them for 40 years. I even emailed my agent in regards to this for some explanation and he never even responded to me. The dishwasher was under warranty and there was a defect in the manufacturing. Additionally, the installer failed to put the drip pan in that had a water sensor attached that would have let us know there was a leak. So basically, State Farm could have paid our claim and then been reimbursed from the others. We now have to fight the other insurances for coverage. They want to pay a depreciated value and fight us for every penny.
In the end we will either have to file suit or deal with much less than the cost to bring our kitchen back. We will certainly change insurance companies after our kitchen is put back together. Little does our agent know is that all 5 of our kids who also have all of their insurance through him will be leaving too. Maybe the actuaries miscalculated on this one.

When my husband and I were purchasing a new house (and still selling our old house) we contacted State Farm to get a quote on the new house. (We had State Farm for the old house too.) I never told the agent to cancel the insurance for the old house since we didn't sell it yet. After we moved, I get a cancellation letter for the old house. When I called to find out what happened, he said he "assumed" we wanted it cancelled! I told him NO, and to reinstate it, which he did. So, I thought everything was fine. Then about 3 months later I get another cancellation letter for the old homeowner's insurance. When I called this time, he had the nerve to tell me I called to cancel it. I never did that because we hadn't sold the house! He would not listen to me, and insisted I cancelled it. He was so unprofessional.
So finally, my husband and I cancelled all our policies with State Farm (old house, new house, and three cars). Then, just today, I get a renewal notice for one of the cars! I called the main State Farm number and she said it's still active. I told her it was supposed to be cancelled six weeks ago. She told me she couldn't cancel it, and that I would have to call the agent. I said NO WAY! I never want to speak to him again. State Farm is the most screwed up company. Their agents are incompetent. I will never do business with them again.

I purchased a homeowners policy as well as a commercial auto insurance policy and a personal auto policy as a bundle through this office. Jim ** my rep told me to cancel my existing policies asap, which I did. State Farm provided my previous insurance companies a declarations page. Then a few weeks later I received a letter in the mail telling me from State Farm stating they are cancelling all of my policies. On the Homeowners they told me they do not cover the type of roof we have? I gave them my appraisal which clearly states what type of roof we have so they knew!!
Jim issued me the policy and told me there were no issues and to cancel with Citizens. I have discussed this with several other agents including the manager Winifred at this office. She stated as well as the others she never should have told me to cancel my other policies until the paperwork was approved by underwriting. This has caused me more problems than you can ever realize not to mention the hours wasted getting the policies etc. Paying premiums twice and waiting for a refund. I am beyond upset and State Farm is not willing to do one thing to help me out of this situation their salesperson caused. Horrible customer service all the way around.

He wanted to go to other rooms of my house to take pics at that time I asked him to leave, then shouted at me as he was going out the door. I have been in customer service for many years, and this action was totally unacceptable. You should answer questions and see what ways you can rectify or try to rectify the situation, not yell and giving excuses. I hope something comes of this for I am thinking about changing insurance companies because of this. Thanks.

When our policy came for renewal they DROPPED us. They said they do not really have vacant homeowner's insurance. The agent didn't even call us to explain. We received a formal letter. Back in April of this year 2015, we had a bad storm hit our area, causing damage to our roof, electrical surge or lighting must of hit the surrounding area and took out our electric and hot tub and air conditioner. They did not approve our roof, which I can understand but we had several people surrounding us that got new roofs, including a house across the street from us, who got a new roof from a different insurance company. No one who had State Farm in this area got a roof, it went straight to Arbitration and that was not approved. We find it hard to believe that all of the surrounding homes get roofs, yet we don't get it and they call it "foot traffic". With that, they are giving us a hard time with replacing the hot tub and air conditioner, which we had to replace on our own because they are ** us around and it's been hot.
As it stands now, at the end of July all of this is still not resolved at all! We might end up going to court because now it's the principle of the matter, we paid for 15 years straight with no claims and no calls from our insurance agent at all, by the way, and when we need it they are giving us a fight about it. This is the worst company ever I have ever dealt with, worst company. Fix our roof, give us the money to replace the air conditioner (which we already paid for) and give us the money to replace the hot tub, that is what you are for. Why bother having insurance if they can't be there.
"Like a good neighbor State Farm is there" - Give me a ** break! Oh and now they want to look at our electrical system in our house. They are not coming in my house to mess with our electrical systems at all!!! One little mistake from whom ever installed it, they can use that against us. Really?! Pay us!!! Worst company and our agent is just as bad, Marlene in Lake Geneva. Don't use her. She really is worthless, doesn't call, claims she doesn't see the claims, when I know for a fact she has access to them all. Where are the good companies out there that take care of the people that pay their bills? Where are the old fashion companies that really put their customers first? If I were you don't use State Farm from homeowners insurance!

After being a State Farm policy holder for 50 years and having a homeowner’s policy for this house for 20 years without a claim, I filed a claim for a damaged roof. The policy is for replacement value. The first thing that State Farm does is pay only on their estimate, not the proposal from the roofing contractor. Of course their estimate is low and prepared in such a way that it cannot be checked. State Farm claim agents say his estimate is accurate and the roofing contractor is high. The second thing they do to keep their estimate low is to leave out items that would be conventionally replaced by roofing contractors.
Such things as flashing, roof jacks, drip edge. They say they don't pay to replace anything but shingles, not even new tar paper. The third thing they do is refuse to pay for the roof contractor's profit or overhead. They have some convoluted rule about a roof is not complicated enough, so they won't pay for a roofing contractor's estimator or the gas to get to the site. In any event, it is obvious that State Farm has decided to hold the costs to the absolute minimum and use gimmicks to do it. They could care less about customer satisfaction. They are like a snake eating a mouse.

Homeless, she stayed with us and became depress, took ill and died later that year. Home still not repaired, with procrastination, delaying and greased State Farm tactics. Now it's out of the statutes of limitations and we're told nothing can be done.
