We are fine using State Farm as our insurance provider. The office is very local and if my husband has an issue, he can call them directly or stop by the office. No plans to switch companies anytime soon.

After 25 years of State Farm Insurance for all of our insurance needs, I'm GONE! They cancelled our homeowners due to 2 claim filings in 25 YEARS!!! I will no longer be doing business with this company. If you have their insurance, I pray you don't have to ever use it! I had heard horror stories about this company after Katrina in New Orleans, but brushed it off due the probable overwhelming amount of claims they were receiving. But NO!!! State Farm wants you to use them for insurance but WATCH OUT if you actually USE THEM to file a claim. This really should be illegal.

WOW is all I can say for this company... Went to settlement a month and a half ago. I used State Farm as my homeowners policy... Yesterday I received my check back in full without any explanation why, so I called and they said since I live in a hurricane area they have to cancel my insurance and I have to find someone else by the end of the month... Now I don't live on the water so Flood Insurance is not needed though I can see the water. State Farm told me after a month the underwriter googled the area and said I was in a hurricane area. WELL isn't everyone on the Eastern Seaboard... Thanks STATE FARM. I will pass on your horrible business practices to everyone in a timely manner just like you canceled me without an explanation.

I have been with State Farm for 38 years and two years ago I had my first homeowners claim when a pipe broke inside my house and flooded. They degraded my repairs by how old my house was so 1500 sq ft they gave me 1/2 and now I have been told I am uninsurable. One claim and now I will take my autos somewhere else. Reviews show all companies deny claims but they tell you after one claim they can't insure you is incredible.

In November 2013 my house caught fire, the fire originated in the chimney. The house burned down and it was a total loss. The fire marshal inspected and it was determined to be an ACCIDENT. We were displaced for nearly a year while the house was rebuilt and contents replaced. I have had State Farm Insurance for nearly 30 years and after going through the trauma of a fire and losing all of my possessions, State Farm is canceling my policy!! Once you've been cancelled, it is impossible to obtain insurance from another company. I've been forced to get insurance by a state program which is going to cost me about an extra thousand dollars a year.
Additionally, I have a dock on my property that NOBODY will insure. So, after losing everything, State Farm cancels my policy. I have to pay more money for forced insurance or lose my house. Will have to remove my dock and won't be able to use my boat. How in the world can this be allowed to happen??? Beware consumers, even if you have paid into State Farm your entire adult life, and a tragedy strikes, you too will be dropped and forced to endure even more stress and trauma.

Recently filed a claim for water that had seeped into my basement. When I filed I was basically told that the claim would not be covered but I would be contacted in 48 hours. 5 days later when I complained that I had not been contacted, an agent called and later she and another individual came out to the home and immediately told me that I was not covered for water in the basement. I never received a written summary of denial or for that matter a statement of actually came to my home. Damages are over $7,000. I have had State Farm for over 10 yrs and have only had one small claim in all of the years. I feel my agent and State Farm dropped the ball on customer satisfaction. It is when a customer is in most need that this type of company turns their back. Very disappointed and now looking for a new insurance company.

I see that many of you are having bad experiences with State Farm. If you are comparing their rates, challenging them with competitive quotes or planning on moving to another insurance carrier, you will find much resistance from them. As my homes and vehicles got older our rates kept going up and up. We finally decided to compare with other companies and found we were paying more than double what we should be.
I have been with State Farm for over 5 years and have insured my primary residence, rental properties, as well as multiple vehicles through Jonathan Ritchie's Office. In all that time, there had NEVER been a claim on our homes so we were their "ideal" customer. I had recently been married and my wife and I were looking to consolidate our homes and vehicles under one insurance policy. In June of 2014 my Annual State Farm Homeowners policy was paid automatically from escrow by our lender. We completed our research in November and had decided to move our Home/Auto Insurance policies to another carrier because their rates were less than half of what I was already paying through State Farm. At that same time we decided to also take advantage of the lower interest rates so we refinanced with our same lender.
While working on our 2014 taxes we realized we had never been refunded by State Farm for the unused insurance. Shortly after that, we received our annual Homeowners renewal notice from State Farm for 2015-16. I contacted my representative Craig ** at Jonathan Ritchie's State Farm office to find out why my cancellation was not processed. Craig said he just needed the new insurance carrier's Declarations page showing the policy initiation date in order for our policy to be backdated and a refund processed. We immediately emailed the requested document and followed up with a phone call a week later to check status. We were told these things can take time and we should just "sit tight". We waited OVER TWO MONTHS with NO phone calls, emails or any other form of communication from Jonathan Ritchie's office.
So we, ONCE AGAIN, had to initiate contact for an update. We emailed Craig then followed up with a phone call, spoke with the receptionist and was told Craig would "be in touch". The following day Craig emailed us denying our refund. He noted in his email that State Farm's policy is to not refund customers when they leave them and switch to other insurance carriers. He acknowledged in his email that we did contact him in November, but, he said it was only to advise him that we were refinancing and we didn't mention anything about canceling our policy. That's not true. When we contacted him we had already initiated a policy with Allstate which began in November.
The reason we called was to cancel our policy, not to advise them of a refinance which would be meaningless to him since we had already moved to another insurance carrier. What he said makes absolutely no sense at all. We don't have to notify our insurance carrier that we have refinanced when we retain the same lender. It's their word against ours and State Farm Corporate doesn't care to step in since we are no longer their customer. Bottom line, BEWARE OF STATE FARM AND THE JONATHAN RITCHIE OFFICE!!! No matter how much they acknowledge your cancellation request over the phone, put your cancellation in writing. Their word over the phone means nothing...

I took out a renters policy out in 2009 with state farm after moving from my home I owned. My belongings were scattered between a storage building, since I was downsizing to my townhouse we were moving into. I need 25,000.00 worth of insurance & asked if I needed an additional policy for the storage building. Cindy ** answered with these exact words, "No. Your items are covered regardless of where they are." I lived there 5 years & decided to move into a home. After 1 month, the outside bldg got broke into. My old Toro & weed eater were stolen. I did not report this. 2 months later my home was broken into & EVERYTHING was taken, plus vandalized. They used mustard & chocolates milk ruining my furniture.
I called STATE FARM the next day. Because it was over a $5,000 claim we had to file a claim with the head office. When they asked where it happened, I gave them my new address. They denied the claim stating I had moved & not informed them of the move. I argued that they did not cover the structure but the contents. I argued that I was told by Cindy **'s office that my contents were covered, it did not matter where. I had over $10,000.00 in theft. I had lived in the new house less than 6 months. I could have lied to them & said I was in the same place but instead I was honest. State Farm will not speak to me nor would my agent Cindy ** in Norman Oklahoma fight for me. She will take my money for years but she NEVER go to bat for me. For 6 years they got their premiums & I never had any claims with them. I was the model insured, I never called & always paid them on time. I, however, was not treated with the same respect.

My old agent retired and so my new one sent me a letter two months ago stating "I am looking forward to providing you with outstanding customer service". I recently had a neighbor run over my fence and run into my garage with a bobcat performing construction on his property next to mine. My home is out of state where I have my father live so it is hard for me to meet with my neighbor. So I called my agent to at least get a consult on the situation in case my neighbor does not make good on repairs. I left two phone messages and sent one detailed email with pictures. I have had zero response from my agent and have been totally ignored. They sure were responsive when I opened the policy. Hmmmm - time for another company.

Stay away from State Farm. We were denied a claim of water damage due to a wax ring and seal on the toilet. They stated that the damage was caused by wear and tear and therefore not covered. They expect you to remove the toilet and replace those every year. Be warned. If you do and a leak occurs, they will not pay for that either because the plumber is responsible. Seems they always have an excuse to not pay. Remember, Jake is in sales, not claims!!

I Thought This Was America and you Could have and do what you want with your property where you live. I live in the country and I have to have farm animals for food because I don't get food stamps. I work at and I'm not rich. I have the right to have farm animals and farm shelters for my animals that I have so my children and I can eat. I also have the right to have recycling containers so I don't put the recycling stuff in a landfill. It is kept neatly. Our neighbors on both sides of us have pallets they are going to use for shelters for animals also and also have State Farm. I have lived here since I was in grade school and a State Farm person has never come out to take pictures of the house and yard.
STATE FARM HERE IS A NEWS FLASH - YOU DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT IN AMERICA TO TELL ME WHAT I CAN OR CAN'T HAVE IN MY YARD. I live here not you. It is also not a valid reason to do the insurance. Kind of surprising you didn't start crying until a storm ruined the roof and now after a claim you want to whine and complain. Here is a news flash - I have a right to have whatever I want in my yard and if you void insurance will probably see me in court.

We had a dishwasher that had a hose that had water flowing out of it under my kitchen cabinets. Since there was no tile under the cabinets, there was a canal under the cabinets. We did not notice the water for months at which time there was significant mold growth both on the cabinets and the drywall. State Farm came out and decided that the water probably started as a leak and then turned into a steady flow due to the amount of mold growth. Their policies say they don't cover "leak or seepage". They denied the claim. They also stated that they do not cover mold of any kind. We contacted a number of mold remediation companies and all said State Farm was awful in coverage of claims. They said that only Farmers was worse. We were told that many companies would cover it and USAA was the best.
I have had a house insured with State Farm for over 30 years and I have had car insurance with them for 40 years. I even emailed my agent in regards to this for some explanation and he never even responded to me. The dishwasher was under warranty and there was a defect in the manufacturing. Additionally, the installer failed to put the drip pan in that had a water sensor attached that would have let us know there was a leak. So basically, State Farm could have paid our claim and then been reimbursed from the others. We now have to fight the other insurances for coverage. They want to pay a depreciated value and fight us for every penny.
In the end we will either have to file suit or deal with much less than the cost to bring our kitchen back. We will certainly change insurance companies after our kitchen is put back together. Little does our agent know is that all 5 of our kids who also have all of their insurance through him will be leaving too. Maybe the actuaries miscalculated on this one.

When my husband and I were purchasing a new house (and still selling our old house) we contacted State Farm to get a quote on the new house. (We had State Farm for the old house too.) I never told the agent to cancel the insurance for the old house since we didn't sell it yet. After we moved, I get a cancellation letter for the old house. When I called to find out what happened, he said he "assumed" we wanted it cancelled! I told him NO, and to reinstate it, which he did. So, I thought everything was fine. Then about 3 months later I get another cancellation letter for the old homeowner's insurance. When I called this time, he had the nerve to tell me I called to cancel it. I never did that because we hadn't sold the house! He would not listen to me, and insisted I cancelled it. He was so unprofessional.
So finally, my husband and I cancelled all our policies with State Farm (old house, new house, and three cars). Then, just today, I get a renewal notice for one of the cars! I called the main State Farm number and she said it's still active. I told her it was supposed to be cancelled six weeks ago. She told me she couldn't cancel it, and that I would have to call the agent. I said NO WAY! I never want to speak to him again. State Farm is the most screwed up company. Their agents are incompetent. I will never do business with them again.

I purchased a homeowners policy as well as a commercial auto insurance policy and a personal auto policy as a bundle through this office. Jim ** my rep told me to cancel my existing policies asap, which I did. State Farm provided my previous insurance companies a declarations page. Then a few weeks later I received a letter in the mail telling me from State Farm stating they are cancelling all of my policies. On the Homeowners they told me they do not cover the type of roof we have? I gave them my appraisal which clearly states what type of roof we have so they knew!!
Jim issued me the policy and told me there were no issues and to cancel with Citizens. I have discussed this with several other agents including the manager Winifred at this office. She stated as well as the others she never should have told me to cancel my other policies until the paperwork was approved by underwriting. This has caused me more problems than you can ever realize not to mention the hours wasted getting the policies etc. Paying premiums twice and waiting for a refund. I am beyond upset and State Farm is not willing to do one thing to help me out of this situation their salesperson caused. Horrible customer service all the way around.

He wanted to go to other rooms of my house to take pics at that time I asked him to leave, then shouted at me as he was going out the door. I have been in customer service for many years, and this action was totally unacceptable. You should answer questions and see what ways you can rectify or try to rectify the situation, not yell and giving excuses. I hope something comes of this for I am thinking about changing insurance companies because of this. Thanks.

When our policy came for renewal they DROPPED us. They said they do not really have vacant homeowner's insurance. The agent didn't even call us to explain. We received a formal letter. Back in April of this year 2015, we had a bad storm hit our area, causing damage to our roof, electrical surge or lighting must of hit the surrounding area and took out our electric and hot tub and air conditioner. They did not approve our roof, which I can understand but we had several people surrounding us that got new roofs, including a house across the street from us, who got a new roof from a different insurance company. No one who had State Farm in this area got a roof, it went straight to Arbitration and that was not approved. We find it hard to believe that all of the surrounding homes get roofs, yet we don't get it and they call it "foot traffic". With that, they are giving us a hard time with replacing the hot tub and air conditioner, which we had to replace on our own because they are ** us around and it's been hot.
As it stands now, at the end of July all of this is still not resolved at all! We might end up going to court because now it's the principle of the matter, we paid for 15 years straight with no claims and no calls from our insurance agent at all, by the way, and when we need it they are giving us a fight about it. This is the worst company ever I have ever dealt with, worst company. Fix our roof, give us the money to replace the air conditioner (which we already paid for) and give us the money to replace the hot tub, that is what you are for. Why bother having insurance if they can't be there.
"Like a good neighbor State Farm is there" - Give me a ** break! Oh and now they want to look at our electrical system in our house. They are not coming in my house to mess with our electrical systems at all!!! One little mistake from whom ever installed it, they can use that against us. Really?! Pay us!!! Worst company and our agent is just as bad, Marlene in Lake Geneva. Don't use her. She really is worthless, doesn't call, claims she doesn't see the claims, when I know for a fact she has access to them all. Where are the good companies out there that take care of the people that pay their bills? Where are the old fashion companies that really put their customers first? If I were you don't use State Farm from homeowners insurance!

After being a State Farm policy holder for 50 years and having a homeowner’s policy for this house for 20 years without a claim, I filed a claim for a damaged roof. The policy is for replacement value. The first thing that State Farm does is pay only on their estimate, not the proposal from the roofing contractor. Of course their estimate is low and prepared in such a way that it cannot be checked. State Farm claim agents say his estimate is accurate and the roofing contractor is high. The second thing they do to keep their estimate low is to leave out items that would be conventionally replaced by roofing contractors.
Such things as flashing, roof jacks, drip edge. They say they don't pay to replace anything but shingles, not even new tar paper. The third thing they do is refuse to pay for the roof contractor's profit or overhead. They have some convoluted rule about a roof is not complicated enough, so they won't pay for a roofing contractor's estimator or the gas to get to the site. In any event, it is obvious that State Farm has decided to hold the costs to the absolute minimum and use gimmicks to do it. They could care less about customer satisfaction. They are like a snake eating a mouse.

We bought our house in Dec. of 2014, have had State Farm car insurance for over 6 yrs. So we got home owners insurance from them, they said they would only cover our house for a year because of the type of roof we have, and put our deductible at 3400.00, and we need to change our roof in this year for them to continue to cover us. Well unfortunately, we had a pipe break and had water damage. I called to make a claim and the first thing I was asked was what about the roof. This had nothing to do with the roof, I have water in my house. Then she asked (Donna), "are you sure you want to make a claim?" Well then we got a list of the things they wouldn't cover, so we had out-of-pocket for everything, except a small portion of the company that dried out our wet house. We can't even repair the damages, because we used our savings for the repairs of the pipes.
I have never been treated so badly, from my agent's office to the agent handling my claim and his associates. Made me feel like we did something wrong. I have called 5 other insurance companies, and they all cover our type of roof with no drop policy. So I have research companies and found one that gave me more coverage at a better price, so beware of State Farm Insurance. I wish I would have researched and read reviews before hand. 1 star is bad.

The friend's parent filed a liability claim with her insurance company, State Farm, and the experience so far has been frustrating to say the least. Our home was smoked damaged by the upstairs neighbors. They had a fire pit on a combustible deck that burned through our ceiling. I had State Farm for over 30 years. They also insure our cars and I have a million dollar umbrella policy with them. I had never made a claim on my home in 30 years. Our home was badly smoke damaged and smelled so bad we were unable to stay in our home. The damage was in the ceiling between our condos. Although you could not see the damage without removing the ceiling State Farm would not allow it. They sent out their dishonest adjuster Sean **. He proceeded to tell us that he didn't smell a thing and everything was fine and no we could not remove the ceiling to see the damage. If we did we were on our own. The smell was so bad we were living in a hotel for five weeks.
I finally had my contractor come over and cut away part of the ceiling and the wood and insulation were black and smoke damaged. In the meantime State Farm continued to waste money on restoration companies that came over and sprayed some chemicals that did not help with the smell or the destroyed ceiling. Then they hired an environmental specialist that cost over $3000. They were trying to prove that there was no danger living in the home and wanted us out of the hotel. After a month of not being able to live in our home State Farm sent approximately 6 people to my home to try and figure out what to do without taking down the ceiling. Then they approved my contractor to only take down a portion of the ceiling. At that time the gentleman working as State Farms contractor suggested we wash the damaged insulation and put it back in the ceiling.
Once my contractor started pulling down the ceiling he was able to see that the whole ceiling needed to be replaced along with the smoke damaged insulation. It only took a week to fix the damage but like I said it took a month for State Farm to even approve anything. The most ironic thing about this is State Farm arbitrated this claim so they weren't even the ones paying it. They wasted close to $5000 trying not to fix the problem not including the 5 weeks in the hotel that they had to pay for. I got physically sick from all the BS State Farm put us through. They are dishonest and will do everything not to pay your claim even when it's not your fault. I pay top dollar for this coverage and it is worthless. Pick any other company but State Farm.

I have paid thousands of dollars to State Farm in premiums over the years. I have had three claims in the past 17 years, and only one of them was paid in full. The other two were for wind and hail damage, and they offered to pay about 10% of the price of repairs - the rest came out of my pocket. I fought with underwriters, agents and other representatives of the company to no avail. I even considered obtaining legal counsel to see what my options were. My hands were tied.
Recently State Farm decided that the couple of thousand dollars they paid out over the past 17 years was too much for them to hold onto me as a customer, so they are canceling my policy. I am appalled by their behavior to a customer that has been with them and paid premiums timely for 35 years. Frankly they are one of the worst businesses I have ever dealt with. Never again will I be fooled by an insurance carrier. A very strong "do not recommend" - and that's an understatement.

We have been working with State Farm for about a year now on the replacement of a roof damaged by large hail in May 2014. We have gone back and forth with 2 Adjusters out and they are refusing to replace roof although the shingle is no longer made. The Homeowner Association refuses to allow it to be repaired with a different shingle.
To make it worse, almost every home in our neighbourhood has had their roof replaced from the same storm. We are to the point of getting an attorney to force the issue to resolution. Once completed, we will likely change insurance companies. I see that there are a lot of complaints against State Farm and you never know until you need them to help. Really frustrated at this point.

I have 4 policies with this company. I bought a new home, picked up dwelling insurance on my 1st home, which I rented out. The renters didn't notice a leak in crawl space. The "GOOD HANDS" of State Farm? Has been nothing but rude, inconsiderate of a paying customer, treating me like a criminal, verbally abusive, passive aggressive attitude, and state "mold is not covered, under policy...” I would not have mold issues if the water damage wasn't there. How can they get away with this? I've always had a very clean home as I suffer from OCD.
I notified the agent and the mitigators about the issue. They both deny that "I" can smell the mold. And claim it isn't "present". If I say there's a moldy smell because of standing water? How rude and inconsiderate can they all be? I notified mitigators about the fact that the 900$ machine rentals, (double on weekends) were not placed in crawl space, where the water was standing... The SF agent said she trusts their judgment. Where is my judgment in all of this, null? Treated as if my concerns aren’t relevant is such a hurtful feeling. I've not been in this position EVER, know nothing about mitigators how they work, asked ?'s, and was rudely spoken to by both parties. Now after complaining, I was told they would be here, Saturday to turn off machines. Waited all day. It's now Sunday morning and still no one!
Still paying for machine rentals doubled as "weekend rates" because I asked ?'s and I know for a fact their feelings were hurt and I'm now paying for all of it. If one knows not how to go about repairs and asks ?'s, why is it a paying customer is treated as if they are stupid and should not be involved with the cleanup to meet their paying expectations? If I say I smell mold due to the water leak, why would I lie? Now the WHOLE HOUSE SMELLS and I keep getting "mold is NOT A COVERED ISSUE" with dwelling insurance. It would not be an issue if the water was never present? The walls/interior of my home now have a smell, which will require a good washing, also dwelling insurance does not cover another place to rent or even a hotel room, only option is to stay in car rental to avoid breathing the mold.
The sound of running equipment has affected my hearing. I cut my foot due to "mitigators" cutting away and removal of hardwood floor. Nothing was placed in the cutout area to avoid this by SF or the mitigating company. I contacted the mitigators on Friday. The supervisor was sent over claiming he does not smell mold... According to our natural gas company “I am in the 1% of people on this planet" that can detect a leak of 1-3%. They had to bring out a special reader to confirm a leak. They were surprised that I could detect such a small leak and were very appreciative that I could, thanking me! And repaired the problem, immediately. This is my first time ever dealing with such an issue and both parties have treated me as if I'm in the wrong to even ask or express "my concerns" after paying them for years is Not OK in my realm of reality.
I switched carriers, same company, to my second home after finding out that the agent who handled and I paid for years on my first home, was charging me double on my vehicle policy, for 3 years. Not a happy customer and will more than likely pay higher premiums. When will this ever end? Why does the commission believe the companies over paying customers? They would not be in business if it wasn't for "customers that trust the good hands to be there"! What a joke! How hurtful, and demeaning, why do we as paying customers have to deal with such rudeness? Who does these things? Who allows them to get away with this? Who do we call? Ghostbusters? The commission I will notify, yet to have faith that they'd be there, on the paying customers behalf?
Terrifies me. They all terrify me. I'm terrified to even post this. Yet, my heart tells me to put it out there for others to read and BEWARE! THE GOOD HANDS, have raped, abused, accused, overcharged, and when called, denied I was covered for the issue by phone. The claim agent had no idea what happened yet he could tell me, not covered. So I suffered tremendously thinking I'd have to come up with at least 10g on my own, until the local agent came over, looked at the situation, took pictures, asked ?'s. Yes, I let them in my home to be verbally abusive to me, because of fear that it wasn't covered. Finally after 1/2 hour I asked the ?, “Am I covered?” When they replied yes! It's clearly an inside issue. I broke down and cried. Her response, “I'm sorry I let you wait that long.”

So, unfortunately I had flood and the moment I called them, they send an agent, and she made pictures of destroyed walls (from flood), and floor and she made up that this was condition even before the flood. But I never claim anything but material! I KNOW MY HOUSE, RIGHT?! Then they just send me letter saying they are not my insurance anymore! Funny, right?!
Second, I had an accident on the par. lot and it was another guy fault. He hit me with his car because he didn't look back. So I called SF, and they told me they will call this guy's insurance. I have been a customer of State Farm for 20 years (home and auto). I had one claim on my house for $1200 in the 20 years they were my insurance company. I called them out three times in 20 years and only filed one claim. The last time, I had a leak in my roof and missing shingles after a storm. I had them give me an estimate and was told it would not be covered. So I repaired the roof on my own dollar and moved on. Apparently that put me on a high risk list and I received a letter stating that I was going to be dropped because of too many claims. I spoke with my agent and he said it was ridiculous and would fight it. Eventually, State Farm said they would keep me covered if they could raise my deductible over the cost of a new roof.
If I were to replace it, they would lower my deductible. Really? If it were car insurance and I was in a wreck, would they say they would cover me if I replaced my car first? If it was health insurance would they cover me as long as I was not sick? This south's be illegal in any other situation. State Farm is a big business looking to eliminate possible risk and their clients are merely statistics. They are a complete joke and will not be supportive of their clients. Most of these policies are over 5 years old, and most have no claims at all on them. I do have one rental property that has had three claims in the 7 years I've owned it. Two claims for hail and one for a broken water line in the front yard caused by a city contractor working on sewer lines in the street, for a total claim payout of $14,579.84.
I had no control over the weather or city contractors, but I'm being cancelled due to too many claims. I've asked them, through my agent, to reconsider and would replace the roof with wind and hail resistant shingles, and would be fine with higher premiums if they would continue coverage. They can't do that! They can't seem to see the bigger picture, that they are making great money on me as a whole!

I have had homeowners insurance with State Farm since 2010. I recently decided not to renew my policy because the cost of my coverage has continually risen since I took it out. I ask why, the company stated that the increase was company-wide. I recently took out a new insurance policy with a different company and had to find my original declaration of insurance with State Farm. I realized while looking at my renewal statements that my insurance was being renewed for greater amounts each year.
My policy's coverage went from 89,000 to 98,000 in approximately five years. The cost went up about $200. I feel that the company should have told me that they were going to renew it for a greater amount and informed me of the increased cost so I could decide if I wanted these changes and could afford the cost. I also was informed that I was under insured that I should have been insured for $122,000 since my home is 1216 square feet. I now have more insurance at a lower price and hopefully it will always be renewed at the same rate.

I had a stored refrigerator in the 12 x 20 shed my new refrigerators compressor went out and I thought the part from the old one would fit so I drove to Jefferson City from Laurie MO where I now reside. When I got to my storage unit nothing looked like it had been tampered with but upon opening the door a garage type overhead door, I found that anything of value had been removed.
Your adjuster ** in Columbia, your fraud group has all the information on items in the unit. I was told by original adjuster that she was transferring the claim to fraud because I didn't accept her valuation of 2 vintage analog stereos. She told me that they were worth about 3 to 400 dollars each, one was a 6 month old pioneer spec 1 and 2 amp pre amp a TX 9500 tuner a G series 9500 eq a pair of ESS AMB 1 speakers all with original packing and manuals used less than 9 months.
I left my ex wife and stored the stereo equipment at my parents home in 1980 while I moved to Denver Colorado. The second stereo I bought from a friend in 1983. He was about to go into managed care for MS, it was a Sansui system BA3000 and CA3000, also I bought with it a set of bose 901 speakers and a turntable Sansui 836 model. Again this stereo was barely used and still had all the original paperwork, brochures, packing and boxes. There was also a bunch of fishing equipment from antique to new lures still in the boxes.
The reason I moved the Items to the storage unit was I am remodeling the lake house and had to move it somewhere. There were 2 full pickup beds full of items in boxes. Again a complete list of those items is available to you through ** who informed me today that because there was no sign of forced entry. State Farm's position is no theft occurred. I reported it to the Cole county sheriffs dept, as soon as I opened the door a deputy showed up, asked what was missing. I told him that the Stereo and fishing equipment was gone. He never even took 1 picture of the door or of the unit. I finally got in touch with a Sgt. ** who came out and actually listened to my story, took pictures. I told him that the unit was somehow opened 3 years prior the same way and various items were removed.
At that time I told him I knew it was someone with a key and someone I must know, I gave him all the names of the people who might know where the storage unit was and had the ability to get a copy of the key. I did not report the previous theft because in 2006 the Jefferson city police took over 8 months before telling me that they never were at my home after a theft report was taken by an officer on Nov 14, 2006. They also had the name of the only person who could have stolen my entire home full of furniture- living room, dining room, master bedroom and dining room.
Almost a year later they Informed me that they had recovered some of my stolen items from the person I told them took everything. They came up with a tent so badly molded it could not be salvaged, a sleeping bag not even close to mine and a destroyed fish fryer. Not one item of importance was recovered because according to JCPD policy Drugs are their primary problem unless the catch the theft in progress, they put it in file 69. Nothing listed with ** was in the storage unit until 2013.
I insured the items I was taking to store for the value I thought they were worth. We wouldn't even be having this problem if your home owner ins inspector had not told me that the home needed a new roof and siding before State Farm could Insure it so I spent $13,000 putting on 30 yr artec shingles and concrete board lap siding, also added steel entry doors and new deck materials and extended the carport, so I could park my 1064 38000 mile all original Ford Thunderbird which your claims(?) dept. made me move from **, my home in 2006 because they considered it abandoned even though I still used it as my mailing address and stopped there once a week! The home had everything except cable still hooked up, the car was in a climate controlled garage under cover.
I was forced to move to my father's home ** to take care of him because he had a knee replacement go bad and needed constant care he was 83. There was no carport there or garage the car was forced to sit in the sun under the cover which did no good, actually it speeded up the clear coat and paint degradation, the paint job alone cost 6300.00 dollars. Even regular waxing didn't help, the paint was finally shot in 2011. For some really stupid reason my brother who was doing the remodeling on Dad's home moved my car from a safe spot in the drive the very front left and moved it to the edge of the street. One of the Idiots he had working for him or some complete stranger hit the front end and fender.
I had looked at the car about 9 weeks before and it was fine except the paint, no dents anywhere then the damage. Your adjusters must get their licenses from a cracker jack box because they decided that it was from 2 separate accidents. If you're wondering why I'm so upset that I'm driving to Jefferson City to the State Insurance board to file a complaint over the way the theft was handled. And by the way congrats on raising the number of complaints nationwide over your claims handling while at the same time lowering the amount paid out on claims by almost 11%.
My personal opinion is the government should have let the whole system fail and start over. I sold insurance for 3 years for Farm bureau making their Million dollar round table 2 out of three years, that's 1 mil in whole life. In 1 year my father was a manager for National life ins co. and AAA auto ins for 20 yrs. After he left them, my brother then took over his book of business before he figured out just how one sided Insurance is So in closing why would I take even a small chance of going to jail for Insurance fraud for $20,000 when in 2005 I could have burned down the house at ** in Jefferson City and filed a claim for close to 1/4 a million dollars, why didn't I just let the T bird burn when after paying B&B auto in JC. to rebuild the #s matching holley carb and they got an o ring only 1/2 in and while test driving it the motor caught fire and I used a $300 leather jacket to smother the flames while a passing truck pulled over and hit it with a fire extinguisher.
I have almost always carried a checking balance of $9,500 to $10,500. I didn't need the money so what reason do you have for not paying my claim. I have never disagreed with your adjusters before on their valuations of loss so I expect a check and an apology for this complete ball of hair ** created in his very little mind. Thank You.

After a huge lightning storm that hit our home last July, we woke up to our water not working. After inspecting the issues, we found that our well water pump went out, hot water tank, water softener, boiler system, DVD players, rotor, modem, and an X-Box, all did not work. We had my father come out that day to inspect for us; unfortunately there was nothing he could do. The next day we called Harper Well and pump to come look at our well pump, which they stated the pump needed replaced. We then called Herr Well and pump to come out and test our pump and our hot water tank. They stated there was lightning damage to both items, and replaced our pump.
The owner of Herr talked with State Farm, and after speaking with them, he disposed of our pump. We then had a gentleman come and take a look at our boiler system; he too also stated there was a power surge to the electrical panel. Then we had somebody take a look at our softener, he stated the same thing - a power surge, which was replaced with a thermal couple. We had also called Time Warner Cable to come out and fix our internet issue. The gentleman came in and tested our equipment. He stated the only time he had ever seen anything like this was from lightning damage, they unfortunately couldn't write us a report because the rotor and modem belonged to us and he was not supposed to test our equipment per company rules.
I had given State Farm all this information; they asked if they could send one of their guys out. We said yes and he came out that day. Ralph Dolence and his son had taken over 300 pictures of our home. Including our fire pit, trash can, picnic table, and ash tray for our guests, which has absolutely nothing to do with what our claim is about. Later we got a denial from State Farm saying they are denying us based on wear and tear. Our items are not brand new, but there is no reason these items could all go out the same morning due to wear and tear.
State Farm said they would replace our rotor and modem (which they never even saw or tested, nor did I file a claim on them) except they said those items are less than our deductible. State Farm told me that I could have somebody else come and take a look at these items, so I called Clover Electric. The gentleman was there for 4 1/2 hours going threw everything for me. He stated there is evidence to lightning strike. I sent his report to State Farm and they denied us once again saying he didn't take any pictures and he was not a professional (I don't see why State Farm needs anymore pictures when Dolence took over 300 photos of my home).
I then called another Forensic Engineer, Jeff **. This gentleman came and tested our equipment, unfortunately we didn't have the pump, because it was disposed of after talking to State Farm, also we replaced our softener (because we thought Dolence got all the information he needed from it, but according to State Farm he couldn't test our water softener because it was unplugged; Dolence came out 4 months after this happened). Jeff ** actually opened our rotor, modem and X-Box and saw evidence from a power surge. He tested all of our items we still had (which Dolence never did, he just took pictures and tested our ground). I sent his report in.
After 4 days I called State Farm and they said they sent the report from Jeff ** to Dolence Electric. I asked them why they needed Dolence's approval to read Jeff **'s report, and of the 5 people I talked to within 3 days after that, not one gave me a reason. I finally called them Yesterday 2/12/2015, and yet again they denied us. I have spoken to many people at State Farm, every time I dialed our team extension and asked to speak with ** the Claims Manager - she was always busy and called me back 2 out of 25 times. About a month ago I spoke with a gentleman by the name of ** from State Farm, I have never been treated so poorly before. I asked him to help me out with a report I had sent into them, he continued to yell at me on the phone and I asked him to transfer me to someone who could help me and he hung up the phone on me.
About 2 months ago I called ** office, who is our Agent. I have never spoken to him once nor did I know he was our agent, I was led to believe that ** was my agent. I called him to see if there was anything I could do or where to go from our denial. He stated that he explained all this to my boyfriend the day before, and he is doing me a favor by looking at my claim because that's not what he does. So I asked him to tell me what he told my boyfriend, you would have thought the world was going to end. We got into an argument and he said, "I wish I could say what I feel about you but I'm not going to." I am so disappointed by the way I have been treated. It is unacceptable and plain rude.

I have an existing acct, never late, never missed a monthly payment (drafted) and 1 small auto claim out of 15+ years. I'm not a New customer. I've given them no reasons to. No matter how many years as a customer, payment history nor 1 claim, if you add property giving them more business, the quote will be still based off your credit score to give you an higher rate.
I was shown a 100% replacement policy quote that had what that plan MAY POSSIBLY PAY. The only you're guaranteed is the value of sq ft of the home. Everything else within will have to proved. Everything else is within that policy shown was set at their limitations and most charges didn't even apply to me. Outside dwelling amount that I don't have, furs and jewelry amount I don't have. Credit card stolen amount I didn't ask for. Business building amount I don't have. Why show a policy that you want me to have after pulling a credit report of who has given no reason to? In Nov. 2013 we suffered a total loss on our home and personal property due to a suspected electrical issue (could not be confirmed due to extent of damages). State Farm had to pay what we were insured for but did NOT make that process very easy. Once settled, State Farm contacted us to update our policy. Our agent was frustrated too with the main State Farm company when she couldn't get them to agree to a policy that would insure us for what we need. OUR AGENT told us she could not sleep at night knowing that the policy they were offering had many loopholes so they basically wouldn't pay for anything in the future.
They would just take our money and if a disaster happened, they'd simply say, "Oh, I'm sorry, that isn't covered." We have been with State Farm for over 35 years and have multiple vehicles along with our house insured by them. After such a devastating loss, they just simply add salt to the wound!!! I have had windshields replaced, damaged cars repaired, towing and roadside assistance, and other miscellaneous claims. I have not had to argue with them. The one time they denied one claim on my home, the inspector pointed out that by the way. I needed a new roof and they covered it. I didn't even realize it. I felt that rate was high but agreed to that because I did want to have to switch companies and lose my multi-policy discount.
In 2015 I asked for a review to see if I could lower my rate. I set up an appointment with the agent. On the day of, I instead was seen by an assistant who gave a song and dance about how my homeowners is based on zip code, prior claim, etc. I told her I work with mortgages and my rates compared to others are very high and I reevaluate my rates. She ran my information though the quote system and discovered that the premium would be half of what it is currently. She contacted the agent whom said under writing must review and approve change and she would call me back.
Long story short she didn't call back when she promised. When I called her she said my premium would not change and that her quote was generated from an old system was accurate. I don't believe they even attempted to contact anyone. Complete waste of time. Very dissatisfied customers!

State Farm's offering was for $3,000, saying that they do not cover pet damage. Is there any recourse for my mom to recover more? What is the exclusion clause they are using not to pay for the damages? Damages amounted to urine and feces in every room, scratches on the wood floors and paneling, and debris everywhere. I will summarize as this has been a long and unsuccessful request. 3 Hurricanes, multiple Hail Storms and State Farm refused to replace roof shingles. Stated that it is inferior shingles from a company that is defunct. Yet, these shingles were installed by the builder when new in 1999. And, there are 600 hundred homes in my neighborhood. All homes have had new roofs due to the items noted with exception of homes insured by State Farm per polls made to surrounding neighbors. Just this week my neighbor reminded me that he had cancelled State Farm 1 year ago after being with them 30 years and switched to Liberty. State Farm had denied his request for shingle replacement. Now 1 year later, Liberty is replacing his roof! I tried multiple escalations with no results. On the evening of 18 Jul 2014 we noticed water leaking from the ceiling in our downstairs bathroom. We called Immediate Response Restoration, an emergency repair company. They shut off the water to the house and began the drying process with 4 dehumidifiers. Plaster was sent out for testing and determined it was safe to remove from the ceiling and walls. Once the ceiling was opened and the water turned back on, the origin of the water was determined to be coming from the hot water supply line to the upstairs shower and was also determined to be a sudden leak. The plumber capped off this supply line and the water was turned back on in the house with no further leaks. All of this was backed up by the paperwork from the repair company.
We filed a claim for water damage which would cover only the removal of the plaster and the drying out process. The State Farm field adjuster wrote up her report and determined that "the water damage to the upstairs and downstairs bathrooms was the result of a continuous or repeated leak of water from multiple sources." Even though the plumber and repair reports contradict this statement, State Farm has refused to pay our claim. After 50 years of paying State Farm Homeowners insurance, this was our only claim. After rate shopping for weeks and moving not just our homeowner's insurance, but our auto policy too for the extra discounts, State Farm notified us two days ago that they are cancelling our homeowners. We just closed on our new home ten days ago! Their reason was that they don't accept anyone whom have had a dog bite on their property. We had a visitor's dog bite a neighbor while leashed on our property back in 2012. All of this was disclosed to them and our initial annual premium increased by $400 due to the dog bite. Apparently they don't actually underwrite their policies until after they're paid and in force?
Now we are finding it almost impossible to find a new homeowners policy because no other company wants to insure people that have been cancelled by another company. If we are able to be covered, our annual premium is going to double to $4,000. How is it even legal to do this to people? If they had underwritten it in the month they had before we closed on our loan, we could have been covered with any of these companies that won't now due to our cancellation.

I am a State Farm customer and I am currently trying to resolve an auto collision claim that has been open since the accident date of 9/8/2014. Over the past three months I have made numerous contacts by phone with Jane **, the State Farm representative handling the claim. I was not at fault nor was I cited in the car wreck that involved four different cars. I was stopped at a red light when a series of events triggered a van to skid through an intersection into an SUV pushing the SUV into the front driver side of my vehicle. The gross damage assessment total cost to my car is $2,829.82. I was initially informed of the options for repairing the car: paying the $1,000 deductible out of my pocket and receiving a check for $1,829.82; or waiting in pursuit of an underinsured claim to pay for the cost of the damage repairs. Due to a financial hardship at this time, we are unable to pay the deductible of $1,000.
Two weeks ago the main driver cited in the collision went to traffic court with an attorney and had the citation thrown out. Ms. ** asked me if I went to the court, and I replied that I did not even know that there was a court date for the driver who was initially cited as causing the accident. We were not informed of the necessity of being vigilant for a chance to participate in such a course of action. Had we been given fair warning to be on the lookout for a pending court proceeding requiring witnesses to avoid a default decision, we would have gladly gone to traffic court to participate in the process. The actual owner of the car is my brother C. **, and he and I both feel that we have had to wait for an unusually long period of time for the resolution of this claim. Because I am 100% not liable for the collision, it’s almost though we are being discriminated against or even punished because we are financially unable pay the $1,000 deductible at this time in order to repair the car. My brother and I feel that we are in an unjust situation that is not completely fair considering that the car accident was not our fault.
The car has a damaged hard plastic shell that hangs down from the underside of the vehicle that makes direct contact with the ground. We crease and fold it up out of harms way the best that we can, however, we are continually concerned about the plastic forming friction sparks from ground contact while the car is moving. The driver’s headlight is smashed completely out greatly diminishing the night driving field and range of vision. There is also the presence of some intermittent fluid leakage from some yet to be determined location under the hood. In addition everything under the hood has shifted out of alignment to the left, which does not seem conducive to an optimal safe driving experience.
Would we benefit from taking a more aggressive approach such as hiring an attorney to speed up the process of resolving the claim? I am posing this as a question because I am humble and not an expert in this field with a specialized body of knowledge. If we used an attorney, would we take action against the other insurance companies or would we take action against State Farm? We are not angry, we just simply want to get our car repaired and honestly feel like we have waited long enough for this to happen. Thank you for your time.

After three days a claims adjuster told me by phone, without ever visiting the house, that they were denying the claim. I had State Farm insurance for about 5 years, not long since it was my first house when I was 21. I live in and older neighborhood with large trees. The trees I had in my yard look to be in okay condition, no dead limbs and green leaves throughout. I had a very large limb fall from one of my trees onto neighbor's garage - not causing any damage. My neighbor filed a claim saying she lost power and I was responsible for loss of food in freezer. State Farm denied her claim and paid nothing out - I had the tree removed with my own money from garage and yard. A year later a different tree fell onto power line of neighbor's house - my neighbor now whom I no longer talk to filed another claim with State Farm - denied again. State Farm still hasn't paid out a dollar for any claims - all from my neighbor because the tree was proven to be in good health and act of God terms follow.
I had one claim before any tree incidents on my A/C, State Farm had to pay out around 2,000 dollars. In the roughly 5 years I had State Farm I figure at 100 dollars a months. I had paid them 6,000 dollars in premiums - State Farm decided that since I had three claims in 2 years that they would drop me from their insurance. 2 of the claims they paid nothing on and I had no hand in or control over. I think the business practice of an insurance company that drops people when they pay nothing out is pathetic - it's too bad for them. I will never purchase insurance from them ever again. Too bad considering how young of a home owner I am, they will miss out on all that money. My advice - stay away from them, they aren't an insurance company there to help its customers, just themselves.

The last time I checked, insurance is designed "to return the insured to the position they held prior to the loss". Nowhere in the law does it say "unless some pencil-necked geek named Trent decides it's excessive". Most people don't know that you can report your insurance company to your state Insurance Commission or Department. Every consumer has that right and they do investigate your complaint. Today I received my homeowners renewal in the mail and noticed that without my request my deductible had been increased from $500 to $1478. In reviewing the 5 or so pages included in the renewal, next to the last page I read that I could reduce my deductible back to my original $500 for an additional $106 more per year. In my opinion it's not worth increasing my deductible if it only saves me $106 per year.
I was an office manager for State Farm for over 10 years. They are a great company and I've found one of the few companies that stand behind their policies but I found this change disturbing. Being in the business for 30+ years, I read my renewal notices but for the average policyholder, they don't. They would not know that their policy deductible had been increased until they suffered a loss and at that time it would be too late to make a change. Usually the savings is minimal.
The reason I believe they have adopted this automatic policy change is that there are so many burglaries, fires, thefts and liability claims, seems everyone wants to sue. If State Farm changes the deductibles without your knowledge, less out of their pocket plus people will see the dollar savings and the cost to return to original deductible and leave it as it is. Law states that they cannot make changes without your approval, that's why in the very back pages it states that you have the option to change it back...... but it will cost you.
Why and how can State Farm legally make the deductible change WITHOUT your prior approval? Why not give you the option on your policy renewal? I will be contacting my State Insurance Commissioners office this week!

We have been with State Farm for 35+ yrs. After filing 3 claims of wind & Hail damage in a 5 yr period, we received a cancellation notice. Two of the three acts of God claims were the indirect result of State Farm encouraging us to use a roofing company which State Farm had a special arrangement for shingle replacement charges. Problem is... later, we learned they installed defective shingles. The tar strips were polluted & did not stick resulting in winds causing shingles to flap up & down. Additionally, the roofer did not install the shingles correctly resulting in our complaint to State Farm which resulted in State Farm sending a special adjuster out from Wichita Kansas (200 miles from us) to inspect the roofer’s installation. This inspection resulted in State Farm ordering the roofer to return to correct problems.
The adjuster noted that the tar strips were indeed polluted & not sticking, but said until a bad storm blew them off, State Farm could not authorize their replacement. Later, during high winds the shingles which the tar strips had not stuck were flapping up & down. Some blew off. We did not learn that this co. installed Metric shingles until another roofing Co. inspected our roof for repair. The repair would have resulted in replacing shingles which were blown off. Inserting new shingles repairing what blew off would have cost under $500.00 to repair. This is our deductible. This would have cost us, not State Farm. EXCEPT ... that this State Farm roofer used Metric shingles which we were not told was being used & not commonly being used.
The new roofing Co. told us that he could not get metric shingles to do the repair. This meant that the entire South side of our roof had to be replaced instead of repaired which would have been less than our deductible. therefore, this repair would have cost us, not State Farm. The 2nd Act of God claim was due to the wind coming from a different direction, blowing shingles off of another part of our roof which was due to the polluted tar strips not sticking. I called our agent asking why our homeowner's was cancelled after three claims of an act of God weather damage when two of the claims were the indirect result of State Farm encouraging us to use their preferred roofer. Our agent claimed he did not know that his Co., State Farm, had cancelled us. Our agent said he would call the powers to be & get back with me.
Two days later our agent called. Our agent said State Farm would not make an exception. Our agent said State Farm would continue coverage on our cars & cycles. I responded, "you’re kidding. State Farm has cancelled our home owners which will place us @ a higher risk with another Co. This will result in a substantial higher premium." I added that it was State Farm that encouraged us to allow their preferred roofer to do the repair who used defective & Metric shingles. I asked, “since we have to find home owners elsewhere at a much higher rate, why would we leave our cars & cycles with State Farm?” Our agent did not respond. We have been told that calling the Kansas Insurance Commissioners office will do no good. They regulate insurance Co's but do not make any effort to protect insurers from Nefarious insurance Co.'s like State Farm. If anyone reading this knows of avenues we can pursue without the cost of an attorney, please E-Mail us.

I wish I had recorded the conversation since now they are saying they can only release the funds as I incur the expense. So, now I am going from a bike shop level bike to a Target level bike that my parents had sitting around because I will not be able to pay off a $2499.99 (-$500 deductible) in the two years they say I have to. It took me well over a day for a manager to contact me, who apologized for the fact that I was told incorrect information. However, she did not offer to honor the incorrect information.
In MN being told what I was over the phone constitutes a verbal contract which they have to honor. I was also promised that their "Executive Customer Support Team" would contact me yesterday (September 20th) then today (October 1st), and now I'm being told that the rep I was told to email from Facebook has no clue when or if they will contact me. I really feel like I am being forced to go from a Cadillac level bicycle to a Scion level bicycle due to how difficult this process, and that they don't care since my wife and I only have renter's insurance through them. I do know we will be cancelling it due to the way they have treated us.

I'm writing this because I feel I have to. First off, I've never written a bad review online before. I just feel like people need to hear the truth on this one. I've had State Farm insurance since 1989 when I started driving. At that point, my parents were 30-year State Farm customers through an agent in NJ where I grew up (don't hold it against me please). I bought my first house in 1997 in PA, and my latest here in O'Fallon in 2007. Of course, I sought out and used State Farm for both locations.
I've recently been told that State Farm is dropping my homeowner’s coverage because of claim volume. My wife and I have had one paid claim 17 years of home ownership! We had our roof repaired 2 years ago from hail damage. On top of that, I have life, car, motorcycle, camper, and boat insurance all through State Farm. I've always paid my bills on time, even since I was 17 years old. I don't mean to 100% blame this on my agent's office, but Jay Maitland's office in O'Fallon, MO was unsuccessful at convincing State Farm keeping my homeowner policy. Additionally, we didn't feel like Jay's office cared and pushed for us. All communication had to come from us, not the other way around. We asked for an update by a specific day and had to call at 4:30 pm that day to hear anything. I don't know what customer profile State Farm is looking for but apparently I'm not it. All I can say is watch out, and have a back up plan as my wife and I are now scrambling for insurance.

My Rental condominium has water damage caused by a leak from the unit upstairs (no fault of my own). Water flowed for 4 plus hours and rained down on my unit. The resident upstairs was not home, and there was no valve on the street to shut it off. I called State Farm to file a claim, and for help. They told me I have to contact the owner upstairs and get a plumber's report. I tried but so far, after one excuse or another by the flaky inhabitant upstairs, I have no plumber's report. State Farm is now stiff arming me. I think an insurance should cover me, and take care of the details by themselves. I'm covered for $75,000 in my contract, for damages and State Farm is waffling. Why doesn't State Farm take care of this? What action can you take?

Had a claim for hail damage and as soon as they paid me they canceled my policy plus it took many phone calls to even find out I was canceled. The Agent never told me it took me calling his office to find out I had 0 insurance right now and had been canceled for some time. Wow, I cannot believe this agent then he lied to me as well said I had 0 deductibles and yet I had $500. To top this off, the inspector who inspected the damage actually damaged my roof as he was walking on it kicking the shingles. Why would he walk the whole roof, seemed like 20 times he was up there for 30 mins. My roof is 16 x 66 and of course they claim he never even went up there - just stood on a ladder to see damage. I should have video taped it.

We had State Farm Insurance for 30 years. We had two claims in 2014 - one for a broken pipe in the basement caused by freezing and one for a roof leak caused by State Farm. We had several roofing professionals tell us we need a new roof because of wind and hail damage. State Farm refused to cover the new roof. Then it leaked, damaging our master bathroom. State Farm paid part of the claim. Both claims in 2014 totaled less than $10,000 then they cancelled our home insurance. They are a very unethical company. Run away fast.

I have owned my home since 1999 with one insurance claim for $11,000 in 2005 due to Katrina. The claim was paid by my former insurance company and not State Farm. Due to being forced into the state wind and hail pool for 2006 and my premium going from $879.00 per year to now almost $2,500 per year, I began shopping for coverage that included wind and hail. I ended up going to Nationwide, having to move my vehicle coverage from State Farm (coverage since 1976) due to the multiple coverage discounts. Huge mistake! My auto started out basically what I was paying with State Farm but the first 6 months renewal had an increase. One year into this policy my husband backed into someone in a parking lot. Since neither of us had ever experienced an accident or ticket we were very eased to give all our info to the other driver and get his car fixed.
Next renewal our coverage went from $185 per month to $275 per month. When I contacted Nationwide and find out that the claim was paid for $1400 I mailed them a check to cover the discount and moved my vehicles. Since a new accident was on record State Farm could not take us back. Our homeowners began at $1400 per year, after 3 years this had increased to almost $2000. I have now moved everything back to State Farm and with the exception of constant increases we have been satisfied. Our deductible now is to the point we must have a major loss for the insurance to cover anything. I have searched in MS to find a company that will give me decreasing coverage but have not found it. After demanding my deductible be raised to $10,000 if only major losses would be covered, State Farm agreed to lower my coverage to below my replacement value of my home.
Due to the housing market I can purchase an existing home in my area for about 25% of what it would cost to build new. The entire homeowners insurance market has become a rip off since if a claim is ever paid they want to re-coop the amount paid out in 1 year and then continue to collect the increase. We were hit with another 20% increase last year and am expecting another this year.... no claims due to hurricanes in this area in almost 10 years. My home will soon be paid for so I will take my chances and bank my premiums and become self insured. Persons in the coastal areas lost homes due to insurance increases making it impossible to pay for them.

No letter will ever be able to convey the extreme disappoint, frustration and anger I feel after dealing with State Farm the last 8 months. For 10 years, I had Condo Homeowners policy with State Farm without a single claim. On December 23, 2013, my neighbor fell asleep while smoking a cigarette and burned his house to the ground. My condo was next door; we shared a wall. My home was damaged in the fire. Instead of getting answers and help, State Farm sent an inexperienced kid, Michael, to my home to do the adjustment. He spent most of the time talking with me about how he came from the Auto Claims division.
Michael is simply one of the most incompetent and inept individuals I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. He never completely answered my questions and seemed completely uninterested in doing any actual work. He did not provide me with the information that I needed to protect myself against my HOA and the Property Manager who hired his brother, an unlicensed contractor, to do the work on my house. Instead, he kept telling me to wait and see what the other insurance companies were going to do. He did not complete a single estimate for my claim.
Furthermore, he spent my entire claim on movers and dry cleaning. MOVERS AND DRY CLEANING. Had he told me that movers and cleaners would cost me $24,000; I would have done it myself. Not only that, but while I was staying at the Residence Inn Marriott in West Chester, the staff at the hotel complained to me numerous times to me about my rude and incompetent insurance adjuster. I found this rather embarrassing and I did not like having to apologize for his behavior (Feel free to call Brian, the hotel manager, for more information about that. I doubt you will but you should listen to what he has to say. He was quite displeased with Michael's attitude and seemingly inability to pay a hotel bill. 513 341 4040).
Remember, I didn't start this fire. I didn't ask for it. And I was lucky to have even survived. But for what? To be treated like a nuisance by my insurance company who did nothing to protect my interests. Since the fire, I have bought a new home. I now have my two homes and my two cars insured elsewhere. My family, including my parents who have been with State Farm since the 70s, are following suit. While I realize that this is certainly not going to put you out of business, I have made every effort to tell everyone I can about my story and how awful State Farm treated me. I have also made a point to use social media to my advantage in letting people know just how bad this situation is.
I wish I could say was, but because of Michael's lack of professionalism and ill advice, it is August and my home is still not rebuilt. I am still fighting to get what I am owed. I am still waiting for someone to help me. Sincerely, your disgruntled former customer

I have had homeowner's insurance with State Farm for almost 40 years. My deductible has always been $1,000. When I asked my agent about this, he told me that State Farm had - across the board - changed this on all of their policies. I told him I thought I should have been notified by him; he told me it would have been on my declarations page and I should have seen it there. I have also had issues with my personal articles policy and automobile policy. In my opinion, an increase of over 800% in a deductible amount is worthy of a personal telephone call or, at the very least, a letter from my local agent. It is also worth noting that the premium certainly did not decrease one dime with an 800% increase in deductible amount.

Claimed it wasn't hail damage but that when the house was built 14 yrs ago it was damage from then, the contractor has had many problems with State Farm on other jobs. The adjuster called my daughter to tell her they will only pay to patch the front & re roof the back side. We had a wind storm come through and blew our neighbors tree onto our house. I do understand that if the tree is in good shape and is blown down that it is the responsibility of the person who’s house that it fell on. (I think this is a bunch of bull, but that’s the ruling of the INSURANCE COMPANIES.) Anyway, it does state that if you can prove that the tree should have been cut down because of being in bad condition (rotten) that it would fall on the home owner of the tree. NOT SO WITH STATE FARM. We have pictures of the tree after it fell showing the rotten trunk and rotten inside the limbs, the stump is still in the ground and you plainly see the decay.
Our insurance adjuster told us that we should have sent our neighbor a letter before it fell and told them to cut it down then it would fall on the neighbors insurance. Oh by the way, we both had STATE FARM INSURANCE. Ok so if this is true about the letter I guess I should write letters to everyone who has a car on the road with bad tires or bad brakes and other defects just in case they run into me. STATE FARM OUT TO MAKE MONEY which is fine, but CLEARLY THAT’S ALL THEY ARE THERE FOR. IF I COULD GIVE LESS THAN 1 STAR FOR A REVIEW I WOULD. Take my word for it, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. My family was looking for a new insurance company after 15 years with our previous one. My father had his insurance with State Farm in his other house and cars so he talked to his agent. They said they would insure our house, no problem. They came out for the inspection and I did not see anything bad coming from it, until the agent pulled up. His face was grimaced as he walked up after the two hour drive to get to our home. And then he says, "He had hoped our house would look differently than all the other houses on his drive". This comment shocked me so much since we live in a farming community with many centennial homes. He then proceeded to say that State Farm was really picky and there was no way they would approve insurance on our house or any in our neighborhood. He pretended to do an inspection around the house. I watched from the window as he walked around and took no pictures but pushed a rotary measuring tape but made no notations.
He came back up and told me flat out that State Farm would never consider insuring us and he would give us other option when he got back to the office. Which surprise, surprise he never did contact us. I was so insulted at his lack of professionalism as well as representing a company in that way, that we have spread the word.

We had a Scott's riding mower stolen from our residence and did not file a claim. We didn't know that it was covered by our homeowner's policy. It's disturbing when you go to file a claim and State Farm tells you your insurance rate will go up for filing a claim. What about all the years you paid and had no claims. On March 23, 2013, I filed a claim for damages resulting from what appeared to be a plumbing leak. At the request of State Farm, a leak detection company was hired to test my property for leaks. No leak was detected. I received a letter dated May 9, 2013 stating that my foundation should be inspected by a contractor or engineer and any needed repairs must be addressed by April 29, 2014. I contacted State Farm again in January 2014 to ask for guidance in addressing the issues with foundation settlement. I was told at that time that they were opening a new claim (even though I was calling about the same issue). On the instructions of State Farm, I had two foundation repair companies inspect my property and let me know if there was damage. These inspections were completed on March 6, 2014. (Meanwhile, in conversations with my State Farm Agent about a new claim being opened, I was informed that if I had a 3rd claim, State Farm could cancel my insurance.)
Both companies reported that the foundation shifting was most likely caused by a plumbing leak. State Farm then hired another leak detection company to see if there was a leak. On March 25, 2014, the other leak detection company reported that there is indeed a plumbing leak. A letter dated that same date (March 25, 2014) was sent to me stating that State Farm was not renewing my homeowners policy. On April 3, 2014, a structural engineering company was hired by State Farm to inspect my property to determine if the plumbing leak caused or contributed to the shifting of my foundation. I received another letter from State Farm dated April 4, 2014 outlining coverage under my homeowners policy. I subsequently received a letter dated April 16, 2014 stating that State Farm was continuing to investigate my claim and that they were awaiting the report from Insight Engineering. This was AFTER State Farm stated they were not renewing my policy.
On April 21, 2014, the structural engineer reported that the shifting of my foundation was normal and that there was no need to do anything to the foundation. My State Farm agent submitted an appeal regarding the cancellation of my policy. I just received notice (April 24, 2014) that State Farm denied the appeal. The stated reason for cancellation was because I had two claims within a year. However, I would not have had two claims if State Farm had reopened my original claim as requested. Additionally, there will be no cost to State Farm for any foundation repairs since the structural engineer actually advised against it, and I intended to pay for the plumbing leak myself. I began to try to obtain other insurance or my bank was going to purchase insurance on my behalf and my agent told me it would cost about 3 times more. Well, I found out that, because State Farm cancelled my insurance, I am now considered "high risk" and had to obtain insurance through Texas Fair Insurance. This is grossly unfair!
I have had homeowners insurance through State Farm since 1994 and the only other claim I have ever submitted was in 2008 as a result of damage caused by Hurricane Ike. Weather-related claims do not count toward the "too many claims" limit, I was told by State Farm. Why did they cancel my insurance??!! I have outstanding credit and a spotless payment record with State Farm. The only reason they say I had two claims was because THEY insisted on opening a second claim instead of reopening the first one. I'm so upset right now it's affecting my blood pressure (I have serious health issues, am a single senior and am looking at surgery in the next few days.) Can somebody get that bad mark removed from my insurance record? I don't want State Farm to reinstate my insurance because I never want to do business with them again. I called my State Farm Agent to report a leak and had also called American Home Shield to send a plumber out to find out what was wrong. American Home Shield also messed up for 5 days and sent out inept people as well. I called State Farm since I had water flowing to the street and backing up to the yard. State Farm did send out a company that found the hot water slab leak and repaired it. State Farm paid for that and to replace the carpeting. Ten days later it happened again within 1/4 inch of the last place. I called again and said it should be part of the same claim since it did not get repaired right. Other areas were affected then so they came out and then about 7 months later I began to have foundation issues which go back to the hot water slab leak because the ground under the foundation was silting out which in fact caused the foundation. State Farm messed around with this for over 1 year and a half and denied the claim so now I am in the process of hiring an attorney to fight this claim.
In the meantime the foundation has deteriorated due to this stalling tactic on State Farm's part. Also as single, older individual I also feel I am being discriminated against as well. Also to add insult to injury, I called about my auto insurance to pay it and get a copy of my insurance card and was told I did not owe anything and was even sent a copy of the card to prove insurance only to find out several months later after a rock hit my windshield that I did not have the insurance and they terminated my insurance. I had to go to another insurance company to get insured and here I was driving with proof of insurance and did not have it. How do they still practice? Look at Florida, look at other claims in Texas.
State Farm does not behave like any GOOD NEIGHBOR and they always stall when a substantial claim is filed. I noticed a change in them within the last 7 years and prior to that they were top notch. I am also a real estate Broker and am hearing about all kinds of claims being denied and State Farm is betting that they won't be sued because of the cost of litigation. They also raised my rates due to not having my autos with them even though they screwed that up. I now have a house that is not worth what I paid for it due to the denial of my homeowner's claim that was denied and I am going to sue and have more money out of pocket.

Now, overall I did not have any problems with my claims representatives. I too did have great difficulty with Steamatics a company recommended by State Farm as a Preferred Provider. (DO NOT USE THEM. AGAIN THAT IS ANOTHER COMPLAINT STILL TO COME.)
This was a very devastating event in my life which I will never completely recover from. So last Wednesday I get a call from my local agent informing me that my Homeowners had been cancelled and asking me if I received any notice. I promptly responded very unkindly NO and then panicked, "What was I going to do?" Why did this happen to me? My agency informed me it was because I had two claims in the last two years. One was the house fire and then as luck would have it our septic system went out in January and it had to be replaced (3000.00) which I only tried to claim because my agent told me I had nothing to lose. Well turns out that was not true. They denied the claim, did not pay a dime and were trying to use this to cancel me.
Well they did end up reinstating my policy only because they did not provide me notification that the policy would be cancelled. WOW, I HAVE A LOOPHOLE FOR A YEAR. I would be willing to join any class action suit if one were to be filed. It is a real shame that somebody that does not know you and they are just looking at statistics has the power over something so devastating. It is not right and not fair that as many have stated you pay in for insurance but you are not allowed to use it. INSURANCE COMPANIES ARE ALL BULLIES AND PICK ON THE DEFENSELESS. I also found it quite coincidental the Fire claim was closed on March 22, 2014 and less than a week later the attempted to cancel me. HMMM.... makes you wonder, huh?

Obviously in TWO weeks it will be ONE YEAR since fire and NOTHING has been done on the property, that I continue to pay mortgage on and cannot occupy. State Farm raised my house deductible from $1,000/year to 1/2% of the value of my home as insured. This has more than doubled my deductible. Let's say that you insure a home with replacement value of $200,000 with a $1,000 deductible ... Now, State Farm will make you pay 1/2% of the $200,000 insured value of the home which I believe comes out the same as $1,000. Should your home be insured more than $200,000, then 1/2% takes a major toll ... Should your home be at an insured value of $400,000 with a $1,000 deductible ... You will be paying State Farm 1/2% of $400,000 which is much more than the $1,000 deductible that you signed up for ...

We've been State Farm policy holders for over 19 years and have yet to file a claim. We've tried several times due to water damage in 2 separate homes and most recently the theft of materials in my rental car while traveling. Each time we've contacted a claim agent they have done their best to talk us out of filing the claim. Either the deductible is too high or what they will cover has limits. It always has limits.
Theft - my personal laptop was stolen along with a bunch of additional personal items while traveling on business. Although all my personal items were stolen, the agent notified me that due to the fact that it was a business trip they will only cover $750 for my laptop. The laptop was purchased 3 weeks prior for $3,300. Since I stated that I was traveling on business, they will cover less than my $1,000 deductible. I have no other means to recover this cost and replace my laptop.
Water damage - Hurricane and earthquake damage over the course of 2 weeks left a crack in my basement foundation and partial flooded our finished basement. State Farm stated they do not cover damage based on natural disasters and again the deductible was brought up. Along with a comment by the agent that you don't want to file too many claims as it will drive up your premium.
I haven't filed a single claim in 19 years, what do you consider too many. I can see if I was claiming tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars but all 3 claims that I wanted to file were for under $5,000 and with my deductible would have been considerably less. Over the course of the last 5 years, I have needed my insurance to do what I pay into for. And State Farm has done everything possible to talk me out of filing a claim and informed me of limits on what my policy can cover. They take my money every month, yet do nothing to service me as a customer or provide financial assistance when called upon.
I will be switching insurance and will be suggesting to everyone I know to do the same. Almost 20 years paying into this and they stonewall me the three times I need their assistance. The three times I need them to do what I pay them every month for the past 19 years to do. That's 228 times I've paid them and I've received nothing but grief in return. Do yourself a favor and don't even consider State Farm. They're like a Good Neighbor that steals your Wi-Fi every month rather than paying for their own, refuses to cut their lawn or shovel their sidewalk so you feel obligated to do it for them and borrows your stuff in times of need but never returns them. Nice people but sucky neighbors.

Getting ready to be dropped by State Farm because of too many claims. Had some wind damage to the roof last fall, called them to take a look. They stated that the damage was not bad enough to warrant a claim, but they did send me a letter making sure I knew they don't cover mold problems because of a leaky roof. Then in January had a radiator burst due to the cold weather, called them to let them know what had happened, and then after finding out there was little damage called them back to tell them to disregard. That was considered a claim. No pay out for either "claim". Now after calling other insurance companies, we are considered a high risk due to too many claims. So not only are they going to drop us, they have made sure no other company will pick us up for a reasonable cost. Does this seem right to any one else?

The cost to replace was over $3,500. They would not include the storm damage to our thermal deck door because I couldn't prove that the gas seal was broken during the storm. The local agent did not return phone calls. All of our calls were rerouted to a 1 800 State Farm number for months after the storm. However, all other items had to be purchased on our own and we had to wait to be reimbursed. We didn't have the money in time to replace many items therefore lost thousands of dollars as they refused to accept our claim when we were ready to continue with the claim. A letter was sent last month stating that our Homeowner's Insurance is not being renewed.
Today I came home to find another letter from them telling me that my automobile/motorcycle insurance is not being renewed because I placed 3 claims. Well, my mother no longer lives in the home because she is deceased. But I certainly do live here.
The agent was clueless how to fix it. This made me nervous about what might happen if I should ever need to file a claim, even if they straighten out the mess. This had not been done so payment was not made. The assistant to the agent told her that she would fax the bank and that everything was alright. My Mother asked if she needed to leave a check and she was told no that she would be called if anything else was needed.
My Mother was never contacted again and she was under the impression that it had been taken care of. 2 weeks later my Mother's house caught on fire and the insurance is denying the claim due to lapse in coverage and denying that she was told the insurance would be reinstated. This is yet another case of insurance companies taking advantage of long term clients that are elderly. When my water heater broke and leaked into my closet and bedroom in May 2013, saturating about a 4' x 5' area of carpet, I called State Farm who has been my insurance carrier for homes and vehicles for almost 40 years. I thought this would be a large claim. It amounted to $327 for the fans, pad replacement, carpet cleaning and checking insulation under the home for water saturation. In 2009, my neighbor, who is old, slipped on my back stairs and fell. A State Farm adjustor examined the stairs and, of course, said they were to code. State Farm paid my neighbor a whole $35.00. This brings us to a grand total of $362.00 in claims over a five year period. When the policy renews on 2/7/2014, the deductible increases from $250 to $2,000. Had I known better, I never would have submitted either claim. My agent has told me there is nothing she can do to reduce this deductible. If this is common practice with State Farm and other insurance carriers, it needs to stop.

Lax and State Farm went over scope and did not include us in on any part. F. Lax stated that burnt plastic is safe for child with sever lung issues, it's all BPA free. Then stated 30 days max out of our home, told us they could make our upstairs safe 3 times. Wanted to switch to another company. Told State Farm would not back us, and they would not pay for us to extend our time out if we went with another company. F. Lax tossed our personal items, told us that State Farm would not cover to have them cleaned and they don't take them.
Every time we complained about F. Lax, State Farm said they didn't care we hired them. They cleaned my house with Febreeze and cleaned my carpet with a personal dirty steam cleaner. They bailed leaving us a gutted upstairs and told us our 4 bedroom is now a 1 and we will seal your upstairs. They hid things they broke. We were told not to take pictures they provide all. A lot of our things didn't come back, State Farm told us to group the price together then denied and wants it individual. Denied our food issues. Receipts submitted not paid.
"During the process of transporting belongings, kitchen appliances and equipment were not delivered. This left my family without any way to make food, and due to the extreme financial burden of this 'adventure', my children went without food, and we went without a way to cook or store food because of the delay during delivery for five days+." Our funds had been cut off by State Farm. As a child will feel that this is a long time to go with out. F. Lax messed up our delivery and left our family without food for an extensive period of time. I had 3 leaks at my house. Jan 2010, we had freezing temps that stayed below freezing for a week. Once things started to thaw, some transformers got blown and I lost my electricity. I left my house for 4 days, until my electric came back on. That is when I found out that I had busted pipes (once thawed the frozen pipes showed the leaks and water ran constantly for four days). This caused extensive water damage to my basement then within a month realized it also caused foundation movement/damage. In my policy, I had bought the endorsements for water damage AND foundation damage. My water bills for the 3 Jan's before 2010 AND after 2010 showed an avg of 6,500 gallons of water being used. Jan 2010, it showed OVER 15,000 gallons... MORE than twice 8500 gallons MORE used in those 4 DAYS.
The first adjuster that came out realized how extensive the damage was. State Farm removed him as the adjuster and brought in a 'special one' Kyle ** which is short for RIP OFF... LIAR. Then he called his engineer, Mr. Todd from SDII Global, another rip off working ESP for State Farm. He said that the damage was NOT caused from these leaks. LOL. He said it was normal ground settling that caused this. My house was 27 yrs old at this time and I had NO cracks in my basement walls until this incident. You don't have such a drastic change in your house without a reason, and 8500 gallons of water is a GREAT reason. I have researched State Farm extensively since then. They are in cohorts with 3-4 engineering companies and under fraud investigations for this as well.
I got my own engineer report and he said that it was caused by the water. I even got a second engineer report, he said the same thing. State Farm would STILL not pay. I hired a lawyer and am now pursuing them this way. I am trying to find out more about my adjuster. If any one knows anything about Kyle **, please write a reply here please. I have been with the same State Farm agent Wendell ** since 1999. He has insured three (3) homes for me all with similar coverages.... I bought a new residence in '99. I called Wendell and asked him to write the new policy for me on the new address. He agreed and as I said have had him for nearly 13 years as an agent. Then I got my policy. Now because I have had the same agent for so many years I DID NOT read the new policy when it arrived. I TRUSTED him to do as I had asked (my BIGGEST mistake TRUSTING this man) on ALL my other polices ALL of them I have always had a $500 deductible... have only in 13 year used 1 claim for under $3000.00 and that was 6 years ago. So I KNOW what I paid in deductibles and what I have asked for.
After nearly three years in the new house we had a plumbing line break in one of the walls... caused about $4500 worth of damage to carpets floors, drywall paint and furniture pieces that got soaked.... I called and filed a claim with them. The adjuster came to the house and photographed it, wrote it all up and left, then they send me a denial letter!!! NOW I am confused so I call the claims department.... They tell me I now have a $4000.00 deductible and they will not pay anything on the claim at all.. as it was within my deductible (mind you the home totally is worth only 98K total)!!!! No one has a $4K deductible on a 98K home.
I could not believe this as when we bought the home I had told Wendell NOT to change the deductibles at all and keep them all the same... specifically.... He agreed. So I called his office. He was out of town... I had a few personal family problems and as a result this got put on the back burner for a few months... I then sent him a letter. It took him 3 months to respond to and once he did he invited me to his office to discuss the letter.... First it had asked him to fix the deductible problem and set it to the correct amount of $500. Then it addressed the issue of my having to put out all the funds to fix this issue with the broken pipes...
I get to his office and he tells me that #1 the company will not do anything at all to help me with the funds. I had to payout as a homeowner on this issue even though the deductible was incorrect.... And further he tells me that he does not feel there was any mistakes made as all, and that, I must have asked for that high a deductible.... And he will not admit that he made a mistake even after looking at all of my other policies and seeing what I said to be true, that ALL of them were $500 deductibles... His direct quote to me when I asked him to acknowledge his mistake was "Well, that's not gonna happen" and then to top all that off he tells me he is unable to move the $4K from the policy (I MUST keep this deductible) as I have had a loss in the last 36 months (I made a claim they did NOT PAY on) and they will not change the deductible to what it was SUPPOSED TO BE because I had to pay out of my pocket to fix a plumbing issue that I told State Farm about......
This is NOT a GOOD NEIGHBOR in any sense of the word... NOT at all. NOW all of my business will now be moved to another agency with another insurance firm... And I will make a point to tell anyone NOT to do business with State Farm insurance EVER!!! And Mr. ** specifically... We are in the Antelope Valley, Palmdale area, so don't get insurance with these people..... They DO NOT care about anything but collecting your money and not paying out on anything..... We stopped using the shower and started getting opinions from contractors. SF had their adjuster take pictures and denied the claim, without any further inspection of the situation. Every 3rd party contractor we spoke to said that they had never heard of an insurance company flat-out denying a leaking shower pan drain like that.
I contacted our agent, Craig 8*, who said he would see what he could do. "Like a Good Neighbor" (not), he did nothing. Our coverage was recently canceled because we've had 3 claims within 3 years. The kicker to this story is that we literally called our agent, had her pull up our file, told her what happened and asked her "should we file a claim" and if we did "what would be the ramifications". She told us that we should file a claim and that the only ramification would be that "our rates would go up by $200 for the next 3 years". We are essentially losing our coverage because we took the advice of our agent.
On top of that, if you were to sum up the dollar amount that we received from all 3 claims - the total would be less than $5,000. They have received more money from us in those 3 years than we have gotten from them. This 3 claim 3 year rule seems to have absolutely no exceptions. Even though our 3rd claim falls off of our record within the month after they stop our coverage. They will not allow us to reinstate coverage until we have had no claims within 3 consecutive years. Moral of the story... State Farm is perfectly happy to take your money but when it comes time for them to provide a service, they'll politely throw you to the curb even if they are the ones at fault.

When my house caught on fire my 4 children, my fiance, my dog and cat and I were all in the house. The fire department was delayed b/c the bridge was out and took over 30 minutes to get there. After that they had to call in additional trucks b/c they didn't have enough hose to get to the hydrant so they could put out the fire.
When I started my initial claim with State Farm, everything was hunky dory. Well two weeks after the claim was started and the full amount of the damage had been determined. State Farm started saying that the fire was intentionally set. Basically they are claiming I burnt my home down. The county fire marshal and all the fire fighters on the scene stated it was definitely accidental, b/c it was. There was never any police called and I also called the state fire marshal to see if he would come look at the house and give us his opinion on it.
An arson investigator was called in by State Farm. We don't have the money to pay for our own. They haven't told us any of their findings except they believe the fire was set intentionally. They started accusing us of arson when they realized the claim for the house was going to be over $300,000. My policy requires they pay for housing up to 24 months and they kept insisting I take the housing. I finally did b/c we didn't have anywhere to go and were ready to kill our family we were staying with. Needless to say this has been going on for 5 months. State Farm still hasn't approved or denied my claim. They also haven't updated the lease on the temporary housing they provided. We are completely in limbo. I have had to hire a lawyer.
What I can tell everyone is State Farm does not stand behind what they say. They have put us through absolute ** and this is just the beginning. One thing I can say is I've made sure everyone I know is aware of everything that has been happening to us. My home burned down, I had four small children asleep in their beds when it happened. We all got out okay. Everyone involved with the fire, from us to the fire fighters and the marshal are all saying it was accidental, b/c it was. However, of course State Farm is saying it wasn't. I don't know how long this is all going to last, but one thing I can say is State Farm will not stand beside you when something happens. They are more than willing to take our money for insurance, but they aren't willing to pay any claims and I will never have insurance with them again.
If you know someone who is looking into any kind of insurance with State Farm, tell them to find another carrier. State Farm is not the company to go with and if anything ever happens, they will drag their feet and do everything they can to make you completely miserable.

I had wind damage to my roof in March 2013. Adjuster came out to check roof and said I had 15 bad shingles in back of house plus I had three leaks in the roof in front of my house. I called a contractor to check the roof and said he could not tell which 15 shingles need to be replaced so I called my agent and then State Farm sent another adjuster out and he said the shingles in back roof of the house should be replaced. He then inspected the leaks inside of house which was in the roof in front of house and said he would pay for water damage but would not pay to have the roof repaired which is in front of house because there were no way in determining where the leaks were coming from. To make a long story short, State Farm just wants to pay for a half a roof. Got news for them. The city ordinance require a whole new roof!!

I came home from vacation and had extensive water damage. They sent out incompetent people who threw away thousands of dollars worth of things with no pics or proof. Then they would only pay a fraction of what I was out. So I fired them. Their estimate to fix everything was 24 thousand. They gave me six, did not even fix the floors then I had a storage building and some of the people they hired broke into that and stole thousands more. Now they dropped me on trumped up charges thing that could be fixed in a week. I have been with them for 40 yrs with very few claims. I would have come out cheaper to not have called them because I still have to pay for most myself and would not have the added cost of the thievery. The adjuster would never call back with months of trying. I do not see how these people sleep at night. Sad, the people you PAY to protect you hurt you.

Why was State Farm allowed to a huge rate increase? Ours went up over 25%. State Farm said it was because of storm claims in the state!! This is deplorable.

We had a horrible hailstorm in the spring of 2013. Our roof, gutters had to be replaced. Several weeks after work was done, State Farm told us they would no longer cover us because we filed a claim. Why have insurance if you can't ever use them without fear they will drop you! This is the only claim we have ever had with them. I would think twice before ever doing business with this company!

I also had no notification from State Farm about the hike in home owner policy deductible. Mine went from $500 to $1000 and I learned about it when I had some water damage (long story) and our home that soaked carpets, pads and a few misc items that were on the floor at the time. Our other, and only, claim with them was for hail damage in Oct. 2010. It was still $500 deductible then. Our agent and his assistant, also played dumb and could only respond that it was raised in 2011 due to "cat damage", (like I'm supposed to know cat meant catastrophic) due to hurricanes, twisters, flooding, (and perhaps a rash of ingrown toenails that were somehow related to natures fury against mankind for bad deeds or whatever.... just as far fetched as some of their baloney information).
Kidding,of course, about the toenail part, but I'm really upset about no notification at all about doubling our deductible. Nice way to treat policy holders that have insured by them for 40 year with auto (3 cars), homeowners, (also a policy for a rental home), an "umbrella policy" jewelry rider, and probably a couple I've managed to forget. If "I were King" I would not treat my customers, big or small, in that manner. So, like so many of the other millions of financially devastated, and disappearing, middle class Americans, I too am "pissed" and, as I sit waiting for their estimate, I believe that it is all just an exercise in futility because, "who has an extra grand laying around?"
Lastly, following our claim on the water damage they DID notify us in writing that due to the number of claims (4 in 16 years), they were increasing our deductible to 1/2 percent of what our home is insured for. That means we now have a $23,000 deductible. We've been with State Farm for 40 years and had 2 claims at our home in CA & 4 here. 6 claims in 40 years. I know it's a matter of perspective but considering we've also had auto, a 2nd home, umbrella policy, jewelry rider...... Well, it seems like a pretty stiff penalty considering we spent about $445 a month for insurance with State Farm. When you consider that despite all the national disasters these poor insurance companies have had to endure, all they have to do is raise rates and deductibles and POW!
It still equals billions in profits for them each year. Guess like millions of other folks I just get tired of hearing of rate increases justified (they claim) based on huge losses from huge disasters that then equals huge rate increases and translates into HUGE year end profits. Too bad I don't operate my own insurance company. No matter what happens, I can't lose!

Late in the month of October 2009, I moved to a house in the mountains of California. Within the first week of my residence, a sewage problem occurred and backed up sewage and a State Farm claim was my entire experience at the residence. A few plumbers and much work, and then a serious illness were the activities for the next month at the home. The owner of the home finally arrived in town by early December. The evening she arrived from Nevada, Las Vegas, I was taken by an ambulance to the hospital for emergency medical attention from falling, dizziness and many more symptoms and upsets caused by the condition standing.
I returned the next day or some hours with some medicines and a few papers and was not feeling so well. The hospital told me to call 911 if I had any more experiences as what brought me there in the first place. The owner had State Farm coming out to the house next thing I can recall, after my visit to hospital. State Farm sent a claims agent. He and the owner of the home were in a cottage before I knew it. It was indeed quick. I was certainly needing a place to rest without molds. Later, I found mold had caused my illness as well as many other sick days to come. The gist is the owner made the claim. State Farm sets her up in residence and personal needs for several months, thousands of dollars spent for her personal needs and lodging. I, on the other hand, was ignored; only after my statements of the exact details were taken by State Farm and the owner on the day that the mold doctors were taking samples of the mold count on board.
I was at this time starting to get a bit snippy at the lack of humanity and concern of the claims agent on duty, and because I snipped back at her when my answer was not satisfactory, she then called the sheriffs out to the scene on me. They came and talked to me after getting with her first off and they basically told me to straighten up and cooperate with State Farm and the owner. I did. A few days later as I was to stay in the mold house, while the owner enjoyed herself, without me at the cottage, at this point, State Farm knows I was the resident living in home at the time of the incident of claim. Next scene, I was traveling on a bike to meet the owner at her cottage when I became dizzy and called 911 for medical help, and they arrived. But I was unconscious when they put me on a gurney into the ambulance. The next I remember I was dragged off by two sheriff deputies, and severely beaten for hours in the canyon on the way to the main town jail.
I fought the case for two years to the date, December, 17, 2009. I got the charges removed along with details ever changing of this brutal incident. I can only say that it seemed like there was an order from some powerful source to shut me off from the current events concerning my health, personal property and status in relation to this claim, as well as create a multitude of activities that would be away from the events surrounding the house. My belongings were at the residence and my illness and then legal troubles all stemmed from the sewage system which had been unmaintained for two years prior to the flood that caused so much disaster for me. I am still in shambles from damages. State Farm paid the owner. They did nothing to help me, and the owner promised me compensation, but that was just to stall me from claiming damages to myself. Months later, she told me, “Oh well, go get your stuff!” Things were sifted through and all valuables gone, and the house was a mess. I didn't leave a comforter on floor and stuff thrown around like it was, and then I was tangled in and tripped, crashed into the sewage mold dusted wall and I cracked several teeth. I ended up leaving with nothing more than a few items that were not important in the least.
Upon return to my temporary residence that I still am living at, I called the owner, and she did not listen to what happened and I then hung up. Two days passed, I decided to call State Farm and ask if the owner had to spend the money to get the house fixed or if she was legally right to do whatever with the settlement. That conversation went to the story of what happened at the house when I went to retrieve my personal property. I told them I had tripped and fell. The dept I was speaking to turned me over to claims and insisted I make a claim. I did. Since that date, June 6, 2011, I have been lied to, stalled, lied to, and lied to and yes, lied to... The agent shut my claim without notice, told me I was not entitled to any medical and on and on. They have been sent medical records again and again.
Two years has passed. I got them all the information on the very 2-year mark exactly. They now have a lawyer who is handling this claim, getting medical records once again, telling me they don't need to pay, as it has been covered by my insurance. What!? My dental was not covered. My shrink is not covered, as they are indeed the only reason that has ever made me call for help mentally. I am really shocked by the excess lying that they are guilty of. I had so much to recover from. I nearly died and with that being said, I suddenly can't find one attorney to help me with any of my Legal needs. Suddenly, doctors can't find why I was blacking out, even though diabetic symptoms were present and obvious. Stress, brutality, lies and dirty deeds, what if not all is State Farm guilty of?
Each day, I find more evidence of wrongdoing. My situation is all self-explanatory. Suddenly, they are not able to get medical records. Turns out they can't pay for my personal property, they tell me. They already paid out to owner, even though they told me they can't pay third party for items lost. But they said and did pay owner for these items. And so they had a separate agent who was responsible for my personal property and the mispayment to the wrongful owner, who then shut the claim on February 15th, 2013 and said they sent a letter to my therapist. What? No, they did not! I asked her when I got the letter... and blah blah blah… State Farm and the big boo boo.

State Farm failed to inform me of the option to purchase "Code Upgrade" on my homeowner’s policy even though they had reviewed my policy only a month or so before a wind event damaged my roof. During the long process of trying to get my roof replaced, I learned that the city required by code that if an area greater than one square is damaged, then the entire roof must be replaced with shingles rated for 130 MPH. Since my policy did not have this "Code Upgrade" coverage which only cost $13 per year, State Farm would only pay for the repairs to the roof using the original materials...
Since by city code this is not allowed, I could not get a roofer who would touch the job. My only option was to replace the entire roof with upgraded shingles out of my own pocket. Being persistent (it took 3 tries), I was able to get State Farm to agree that they would replace the entire roof but they never would pay for the "code upgrades". Fortunately, I was able to find a roofer who would use the upgraded materials for the same cost as the original and got the job done... No thanks to State Farm... Let the buyer beware.

I called State Farm on the 1-800 number and got a claim number and was told my rep would be calling me later that day. Two days later, I called to speak with my rep to find out what was going on and what I needed to do. FINALLY, after several calls (he was not available), I got to the rep who told me that because we had a home based business (that we had closed down over 3 1/2 years prior) and we had some of my husband's work-related items in the garage, they would not cover the garage. Not rebuilding it or the clean up!
I also found out they would not cover the classic motorcycle that was being rebuilt in the garage because it was an over land vehicle and should have its own insurance. All the while, he kept telling me how he could "understand how I could be upset" and that he was "sorry to be the bearer of bad news". Really?! I am waiting for the letter he promised me stating what they are excluding and why so we can share that with my lawyer. I am certainly going to make a HUGE noise about this and let others know about my experience!

They had no problem taking my insurance premiums but after I had claims twice in 3 years - the water heater leaked and then the furnace puffed - they cancelled me... On Apr. 16th, 2013, most areas were affected by severe storms as was mine. On the morning of the 16th, I was awakened to sewerage that had backed up in my basement from the flooding. I immediately called my HATE FARM agent. He recommended a mitigation company to come out so I contacted these rip off artists. Now the fun begins. The water mitigation company was Johnny on the spot. Early the next morning, they assessed the damage, took photos, laid their contract on the table to sign for the mitigation and the repairs. My thoughts were these guys are on it. Ha! That day, they steamed my floors, dried out the area rug and steamed the bathroom, and once that was done, they placed a dehumidifier in the area to do the rest of the water removal. That was April 17th 2013.
I hadn't seen or have I spoken with anyone from this company in a week and a half from that date with all the contaminated personal items still in my basement. I had to do something, so I called my Hate Farm agent who was very concerned. By that time, I decided to go with another cleaning company. Needless to say, I'm still in it with the other mitigation company who now bills me for $2,313.87 for work complete! The next day, a HATE FARM adjuster has surfaced two weeks later and I must give this guy credit. He was the only person thus far whom I was almost satisfied with. My policy guidelines for the EXTRA COVERAGE is structure $10,000 and personal property $25,000 on the structure. All of the allotted monies and some were needed to replace and rebuild.
The adjuster took measurement and lots of pictures of the damaged items a year before all of this flooding happened. I remodeled my basement to the tune of 15,000 plus the Italian leather sectional was upwards of 8,000 alone. So with all of that said, the adjuster took pictures of the manufacturers of these personal items submitted to my claims person who's a real **! They asked me to make a list of everything lost as I did for them to tell me with PICTURES TO BACK IT UP, that these items could be purchased through them for less than half of what they are worth. So now, I received a measly $6,000 check that will not even begin to replace my belongings but the lady told me to take it or leave it!
I never agreed to any of this. The check just popped up. My agent said that he felt bad that I'm being treated this way and that he will get to the bottom of it. He hasn't called me back either. So in closing, I say to anyone going with Hate Farm because of their Name, I warn you to steer very clear of these RIP-OFF ARTISTS! They made me feel like I was the one trying to rip them off. I pay an extra $400 a month for this add on coverage for these idiots not to abide by their own policy.

I called to open a claim because my air conditioning unit had been hit by lightning. I spoke to a State Farm rep who took my information and stated that someone would call me the next day because it was after hours. On Saturday, I received a call from State Farm and gave them my information. It was at that point the gentleman asked me if I knew what my deductible was. I stated I believe $1,000.00, it had been a while since my last claim. He then advised that it was $1,732.00 and that it had been changed to a 1% rate?
I don’t understand what that meant. So I asked questions upset over that but he could not tell me when it was changed or why or by whom. I then called and left my agent since 1999 Charlotte ** a VMS for a call back. I did not get a call back, so I called her office on Tuesday, May 27th. No call back, so I called again on May 28th. She answered and stated she did not know how it happened. She got my message and could not find any documentation. She then stated she would change it back to $1,000 but then asked me if I had car coverage with State Farm. I stated no, I was happy with current coverage. She then said if I changed, I could get my rate down to $937.00 from $1,300.00??? Wow I then repeated myself no, not to change. She said “Okay, I will call you back after I find out why it was done?”
I asked, “So you will change it back and then call me back?” She called back and said that she spoke to someone and that I had called in February of 2007 to have it changed? At that point I am very upset. I asked who said that I would not call to increase my rate and that I did not know what a 1% change would mean? She had nothing signed just that someone told her I called her office and spoke to her or someone else. This was not good and at this point, I told her that I would not accept this answer and would file a complaint. I also told her I am looking for another form of insurance.
After my meeting at work, I had a VMS from her asking me to call back - I did not call. She then called me again and stated the following: “What I told you was correct, but if you fax over your alarm statement, we could give you a discount”??? I am like “this lady is crazy”. So I politely told her I would not ever have anything sent to her office of State Farm, and that I felt taken advantage of as a customer and lied to, and that I would be going elsewhere for business. I then hung up the phone.

I called them and told them that I was not going to renew, because it was too much money. She tried to figure out what she could do to lower it, but to no avail. It still was too much for me. I said I was going to look elsewhere. Well, I thought that was all taken care of, but it wasn't. I keep getting calls that I owe money and I keep telling them that I did not renew. I had a very disappointing interaction with one of your State Farm offices here in Lima, Ohio. I had been with my insurance company for over 18 years when I contacted State Farm Insurance Company last month. I felt that, over the years, I had neglected to seek competitive rates. After considering several insurance companies, I recalled decades ago, when at age 17, I got my first car and first insurance policy through State Farm. So, I chose a State Farm location from the yellow pages, which turned out to be Corey ** office. Someone named Lindi ** answered the phone and we had a pleasant conversation about what I needed and what State Farm could provide for me. I was insuring my two automobiles and my home. Lindi took all my information, gave me a quote, and then followed up with an email which had all the information we had discussed by phone.
Because I am a school teacher, my husband and I own our own business, and my husband is a local councilman, we have a very busy schedule. I therefore didn't get back with Lindi until about 2 weeks after I had received the informational email. When I called Lindi back and told her I was ready to activate my policy, she went to work right away, finalizing the necessary paperwork; including my credit card information for payment. I had taken off from work the day I contacted the State Farm office, so I was telephoning from home. About 30 minutes after talking with Lindi, I thought I heard a light tapping on my front door. I ignored it because it was so faint, and because we have a doorbell. About 5 minutes later, my dog started barking and wouldn't stop, so I went to the front door and opened it. Just then Corey ** walked back around the corner of my house, across the front lawn and up to my front porch.
I realized it had been him knocking earlier and that he had gone into my backyard. I found that somewhat strange because all other insurance companies for our business, other things we'd done, etc., always told us they were coming to our home and asked when it would be convenient to come do an inspection of the interior and exterior of the house. When he saw me standing at the door, his mouth flew open, and he just stood there for a minute. When he realized he was reacting strangely, he sort of jumped as if composing himself, walked up on my front porch, handed me a card, and started backing away as he said, "Oh, I'm Corey **, your new agent with State Farm." He actually said this while he was backing away and reaching for his car door. Though I was puzzled by his actions, I noticed he looked quite young and thought maybe he was nervous around new customers or something. However, the next day, I put two and two together to discover the real reason for his eccentric behavior.
After work the next day I had a meeting, but I kept my cell phone on because I was expecting an important call. Lindi called me during this meeting. Right after I said, "Hello," she blurted out a seemingly run-on sentence as if she wanted to just say it and hang up. She said, "We have to deny your policy request because our Adjuster said that your records show you have committed fraud and arson in the past and we therefore cannot approve your application." I answered her in a low, monotone voice because I was in a meeting with others sitting around me. I told her I would call her right back. She apparently mistook my low-key response as my acquiescing to what she had just said, and quickly continued, "Well, there's really nothing that can be done at this point. Our Adjuster told us we definitely cannot accept your application; so this will end our business with you."
I immediately excused myself from the meeting, went outside to my car and quickly telephoned Lindi back. Another female answered the phone and when I identified myself and asked for Lindi, she hesitated for a moment. Then she said, "Uh, just a minute. I'll see if she’s in." I held for quite a while before Lindi picked up the phone. I strongly asked Lindi what this was all about. I reminded Lindi that I had been with my present insurance company for over 18 years and have an impeccable record with them. I let her know that I knew these charges she was assigning to me were completely bogus and I insisted on her giving me contact information for the person(s) responsible for conjuring up this nonsense about my record.
Lindi stuttered and stumbled for a few seconds and then said, "Oh, wait a minute. I think I know what happened with your application. Oh, let me just look here in my computer and I will call you right back." About three minutes later, she called me back using the same chipper, cheerful voice she had used when I first telephoned the State Farm office weeks earlier, before Corey ** visited my home and found out I am Black American! Lindi then proceeded to tell me how she had made this stupid computer error by pushing the wrong button and causing the printout to include that I am an arsonist who has also committed fraudulent crimes. Lindi pretended to be so embarrassed about being so computer illiterate, claiming, "Oh, there's a question on the application that asks if you've ever been involved in arson or fraud and I mistakenly clicked yes instead of no. Just now, I clicked on no and your application went right through." Then in a singsong, cheery voice, she said, "Great! Now, let's get you all finished up."
I told Lindi to stop the process because I needed to inform my husband about what this office had done to my application. I reiterated that I wanted the process to immediately stop and that I would get back with her about this. Apparently, when she informed Corey of my comments, he became concerned that my husband, as a local councilman who regularly speaks out about discrimination and racism, would also speak out about State Farm. So, they immediately took over $100 from my bank account, pretending they thought I wanted to go forward with the policy. When I received the receipt in the mail, I immediately called Lindi and told her that I had specifically told her not to activate this policy until I talked to my husband. She stuttered around as usual, pretending not to recall my telling her this. I instructed her to refund my money and she said she would.
To date, I have not received my refund. I now have a policy with an insurance company for teachers, nurses and firemen, recommended by the ODE. I wanted to go with them at first anyway, but hesitated because they are in another state. However, this encounter clearly shows that local business is obviously not always the best business. Unfortunately, minorities in Lima are regularly manipulated and discriminated against in this manner. Because my husband is a councilman, residents in his ward are always calling to tell us about the discrimination they suffer. People like Corey are accustomed to getting away with this type of injustice because many minorities are afraid to speak out against it. The real crime is that this blatant lie that Corey conjured up against me because he didn't want to insure a black person living in a low income area, could have caused me many problems in the future if someone needed to check my insurance record and found the bogus charges of arson and fraud.
This just goes to show how insidious and evil this thing called racism is. To actually destroy someone's insurance record, just to avoid insuring who he thought was a low income minority? How sick! Please check the record to find that I hold two masters degrees and studied overseas. Likewise, my husband holds a bachelor’s and has overcome many obstacles to accomplish political goals he started pursing at age 19. Has Corey ** accomplished anything near this? Hardly. Yet he deems us unworthy of State Farm insurance? After going through this episode, I researched Corey ** and found that he is a second generation State Farm Agent. You'd think his family member would have taught him a little better than he has apparently learned about customer relations. Having made it through college you'd think he could come up with something a little more witty than Arson and Fraud!
I also talked with another State Farm employee (in another office) who told me Corey is a new agent and has a lot to learn. On your national website you tout, "We serve customers representing a rich fabric of backgrounds and lifestyles. We strive to meet the unique needs of all our customers and consumers in communities we touch." I'd say that this is the first thing Corey ** needs to learn!

I've been a State Farm customer for nearly 30 years (homeowners and auto). I had my first claim in August of 2012 for a tree blown down on top of a jointly owned fence. This storm devastated my town. I was out electricity for 17 days. It took nearly two months and numerous phone calls and prompting to finally settle this $1,500 claim. Now they are cancelling my policy for failure to have all trees on my property inspected for root integrity and tree health. I live on 3 1/2 acres of wooded land. My question to my agent was, "Inspected by whom? Which trees - 10' tall trees, 20' tall trees, 50' tall tress? How many tress? 1 tree, 50 trees, 500 trees?" My agent's response, "I don't know any more than you do. It says here all trees. You have to get all trees inspected." I asked my agent to call someone at State Farm to clarify what they wanted.
She got someone on the phone, but would not speak to me. She put this jerk on the speaker phone in time for me to hear him say that they rely on their agents to relay their policies and interpretations, and he would not speak with me. My mother has smoke/water damage to her apartment from a fire incident in the unit above her that occurred in March 2013. She has been treated very unfairly and discriminated by the State Farm agents and their referred vendor, Midwest Cleaning Company. Paul **, being a field adjuster, was very careless to my mother, the client. He referred his old time friend who owns Midwest that came out and did not physically even touch the contents and provided a cleaning with 3 men, 3 cargo vans and 3 days of $2900. We all know that cleaning companies do not charge that little for their service.
Being a Public Adjuster myself, they did not know my mother has an intelligent person helping her with her claim. I have been speaking to Alessandra ** who is hard to return calls to and a John who was very insulting regarding the contents and the contents claim. I do not appreciate the insurance company discriminating the clients. I am going to pursue with the Department of Regulations, BBB, and all authorities that need to be involved. This insurance company as well as others do not believe in their clients and helping them with the best options possible. Their best interest is to ensure that they do not have to pay as much as possible. Everyone who has a claim should hire a Public Adjuster to represent them and this can take care of all the delays that the insurance companies take regarding any claim.

My house burned in 2009 due to the chimneys not being built to code. State Farm were absolute animals and put me through the ringer the entire way. Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there... not! Like a demon from hell, State Farm will give you health issues. Where to start? Let's just put it this way. I'll tell you the worst thing they did among a litany of things. I had two broken arms and was living in a trailer on my property with my legally blind, elderly mother after the fire. They dragged their feet for months paying out on the rebuild of the house, which put me into living in the trailer during the winter. But wait, I'm supposed to tell you the worst thing they did.
Oh yes, they made me and my legally blind, elderly mother go into the condemned house and inventory the remainder of my contents on a tape recorder (me with two broken arms). Everything in the house was covered with smoke. The firefighters had knocked down much of the ceiling and soaked it with water, so you had to walk over the top of the moldy, soaked and smoke laden ceiling. The ceiling was shored up with 2x4s. There was no way that anybody should have been in there, sooner a mostly blind, elderly lady and a woman with two broken arms. And this is only a portion of what they did. They tried to make me fall apart. By the time it was all done, I had PTSD. I still have physical problems from the ordeal. Oh and they cancelled my insurance.
Don't ever go with State Farm. Just turn and run. Just turn and ** run.

Last year, I had roof damage from a storm. I called an agent and had a rep come out. I was told only half of the roof had damage; therefore, they would cover only that half. I had 3 roofers come out to give estimates and was told by all 3 that I also had damage on the front part of the roof. I called an agent again, and they sent out the 2nd adjuster. He agreed that the front should be replaced, but he still took off 2 deductibles.
I had to pay out of pocket $2,000 to the roofer. I have just been notified that State Farm is dropping because of 2 claims. I explained the problem to my agent and he was not interested. Now, I will have to find another insurer and pay higher premium because of 2 claims. I have been getting quotes and found even with the 2 claims about the same cost as what State Farm was charging me, same coverage with a well-known company (Farmers). Be aware that you can be with them for years and zero claims, and they will still drop you.

My wife tried to submit a claim to State Farm pertaining to a few small leaks on the roof, which a contractor told her was caused by hail damage. State Farm denied the claim and told her she needed to have the roof replaced, or they would cancel the insurance. She is disabled and had to move her 2 disabled children in just so they could pool their checks together and all have a place to live. We have been State Farm customers for over 25 years, although it has gotten hard to manage and to keep our policies up-to-date religiously.
She is in the process of securing a grant which pays for repairs in these kinds of situations, but State Farm doesn’t care and will cancel her insurance on March 1st anyway; adding to the stress she is already under caring for her children and trying to make ends meet. I had to move out 3 years ago when I came down with 2 life-threatening illnesses; I realized she couldn’t take care of me also. I’ve needed a 24-hour caregiver for most of the last 3 years and having to pay for my own services; it makes it almost impossible to help her financially.
When you are healthy, working and everything is good, they gladly accept your money. But when you are sick and down, they just kick more dirt in your face. If I ever see another good neighbor commercial, I’m going to throw a brick into my TV. The repairs she needs for the house are a drop in the bucket compared to the amount of money they have received from us in the last 25 years. There’s no concept of helping neighbors anymore; it all comes down to greed.

I spoke with a local State Farm representative today and she assured mmyths dismissal of my homeowners insurance can always be rescinded. She said she is working with the underwriters to do just that, documenting all the work I paid for last year to avoid future issues with my crawl space. State Farm is no good neighbor when it comes to homeowners insurance. After paying costly premiums for years, I filed a claim a few years ago when a dishwasher line broke in my crawl space. State Farm paid some $11,000 to a salvage company to fix the aftermath. Then last year, after record snow caused minor water seepage in the crawl space, I filed another claim. This time, it was denied as not qualifying for coverage. Okay, fine. I never appealed that. I paid the salvage company to fix the problem and also paid to replace my rain gutters. Also, I had my driveway re-graveled, which means less water is pooling near my house. Now, almost a year later, I learned that State Farm is dropping my homeowners insurance in late May because of my second claim, the one that wasn't covered in the first place, the one State Farm never paid a cent on. But the company says I filed two claims in less than two years, and that is unacceptable, even though it covered only the first claim.
Essentially, then, my homeowners insurance is being dropped by State Farm because of a ridiculous technicality. What a scam! This company is your good friend and neighbor only when you are paying them the big bucks. Watch out, though, if you step into their neighborly space more than once. I want to fight this, but it looks like that would be futile based on what others have gone through. What have others done in this situation? Should I consult with a lawyer? How difficult is it to get covered by another company? Do the premiums go sky high? I'm so pissed. I'm also thinking of switching my auto insurance to another carrier. Thanks for suggestions on any of this.

State Farm also cancelled our homeowner's policy after 2 claims in the past 5 years - one for $5,000 and one for $2,800. Both were from weather related incidents. It's obvious that I did ask for that severe hailstorm (it was declared a catastrophic event in our entire area) and the other one was from a lightning strike that again, I must have asked for. I paid monthly premiums for 8 years without ever having a claim. Now 2 small ones in the past 5 years and they cancel my insurance. Worse, they don't even give you a warning that if you have any more claims within a period of time, that they will cancel you (I have heard that Allstate does this for its customers) because had they done this, we would have absorbed the cost and repaired the items ourselves.
Sadly, because we have a 14-year-old mobile home (that was insured with them for 13 of those years), it no longer qualifies for replacement cost insurance under any other insurance company now. I think State Farm dropped us because our home went over 10 years (the age they quit insuring mobile homes for replacement cost). They must have had our home grandfathered in. They just found a way to drop us because of the claims. I am so upset with State Farm. I will never recommend them to anyone else. They also lost our 2 automobiles, travel trailer and I'm considering pulling our life insurance as well.
I know I'm only one person in their pool of thousands, but there's a principal. I was paying them $286.00 a month for the insurances. I'll give my money to someone else. My new insurance company said that they have been signing many State Farm customers who were recently dropped from our last storm here! Really sad. It's a shame that something can't be done to prevent insurance companies from doing this to people.

I have had State Farm insurance on my home since 2005. When I got my bill which is always due in December, it was very low. I called the local office to comment! I got transferred to the agent. He then told me that a SF appraiser had come out to my home when I was not there and decided no one was living there. When they came out, I don't know! I have a long distance commute plus I take frequent trips, so my yard work is not the best. Apparently, knocking on the door and finding no one at home, and seeing a few weeds, they didn't have the intelligence to give me a call and even ask me what the situation was. They also did not have the intelligence to see that a green plant was poking out the blinds! I developed very bad arthritis in my knee this fall which has not let me do as much yard work in the past.
I'm angry at all of State Farm. Why didn't the local agent have the courtesy to send me a letter ahead of time or try and have his secretary call me and let me know that as of March, I would have no insurance with them? Why didn't the regional or national office let me know? They just cancelled and let me find out on my own when I got a strange lower bill from them. The local agent did come out, took some pics, and said he'd try to get me reinstated. He said this would be some time after the first of the year because of holidays. Well, this is January 18th and I haven't heard another word from him - no letter or call to let me know whether he got me reinstated. Plus, when he backed out of my driveway, he missed the two-lane drive and dug huge ruts in my yard that I had to repair. With my arthritis, I have little good time to put out in the yard and work, so I used all my good time fixing the stupid ruts he made, so they wouldn't fill with water.
Their behavior has totally stressed me out. I've always paid my bill on time, had no claims whatsoever, and recently put about $10,000 into my house. Plus, it is about all I have and what is inside. I am also very upset. I have cried over this twice because I work full time, live in a small town, and have few other insurance options. As far I'm concerned, SF sucks big time to treat an eight-year customer this way without a single word or follow up! I hope you read this, you bloodsuckers. What are the consequences? I could actually lose my home. My mortgage requires me to have insurance. If I can't get it, they can call in the loan and if I can't pay it off, I go into default.

My apartment unit was not damaged by the flood but we were evacuated by the City of New York for about two weeks. During the evacuation, we incurred hotel fees and meals. We contacted a State Farm agent and spent hours to provide all of the requested documents. After all, the agent simply said that no money will be paid out because we do not have a flood insurance. I explained that there was no flood damage to my apartment. We are claiming the incurred expenses due to city mandated evacuation. Of course, State Farm agent says there is nothing she can do.

Is this legal? I mean, I made additions & they cancelled my insurance & called themselves reimbursing me for what I'd already paid on. However, they kept $8.00 in processing service fees & now they want me to remove a carport, so I can get soaking wet? If that carport had been a wood structure, they'd complain about that as well. We had heavy hail and multiple people in the neighborhood had damage to their roofs. Not knowing any better, I called insurance and asked them to look at my roof because I didn't know how to tell hail damage. The adjuster (a female) came out, climbed on the roof and looked around. She told me my roof was just fine. Sadly, I believed her. Move forward. Five years ago, my neighbor had a fire - faulty landscaping lighting caught the bushes on fire which climbed to the side of his house. The heat from that fire warped the siding on my house. Both my neighbor and I have State Farm insurance and had the same claims adjuster. When the adjuster arrived to look at my house, initially he was as sweet as can be if a bit condescending. When he did the claims adjustment, he only wanted to fix the damaged area, which would have been fine with me if he could match both the texture and color of the existing siding as my HOA requires this.
We were unable to find a match, at which time the adjuster told me I had to choose between matching the color or matching the texture. I told him when I bought the house it matched in color and texture all the way around and I expected it to match after the repair. At this point, the sweetness disappeared and he was just plain condescending. Now my male neighbor was able to get the adjuster to replace siding, paint and gutters, even in areas that were not damaged, without any resistance. My neighbor's wife wouldn't deal with the adjuster personally, she made her husband deal with the adjuster because of the same condescension problem. When the adjuster and I couldn't come to an agreement, I contacted the regional manager and he sent the adjuster out again. When the adjuster and I still couldn't agree, the adjuster just sent me a check and closed the case without talking to me further.
I tried to call and dispute it with him, but he stopped returning my calls. I held onto the check and didn't cash it as I was not satisfied that we had come to a resolution. Fifteen months later, I was still trying to get my house fixed. At this point, I had a hard time getting contractors to even look at my house because they didn't want to deal with the insurance. Finally, I found a contractor willing to look at the house. The new contractor pointed out that not only did the material samples, provided by the adjuster, did not match for color or texture, they weren't even the same thickness. I again contacted the regional manager who was upset that the matter still wasn't resolved and contacted the original adjuster and told him to deal with the claim.
My contractor met with the adjuster and pointed out the differences in the quality/thickness of the samples and my existing siding. The adjuster told the contractor he would not pay anything more on the claim until the work was done because he didn't believe I really planned to fix my house. He (the adjuster) believed I just wanted more money. The contractor told the adjuster he (the contractor) knew that wasn't true because I hadn't even cashed the original check, which he knew to be a fact, I had shown him the uncashed check. He (the contractor) told the adjuster I just wanted my house fixed right. Needless to say, I was furious. Guess what? The contractor noted on my roof when we finally got the siding work done - hail damage. I sent pictures of the hail damage to my agent who did not respond.
Move forward to this year, hail again. My neighbor on the other side, also insured through State Farm and the same agent, told me he has hail damage and he was sure that if he had hail damage, I probably had it as well. My neighbor told me the State Farm agent and the contractor went back and forth arguing about the damage. The adjuster asked my neighbor what he did for a living, my neighbor told him he was a police officer. The adjuster told him that he really didn't believe there was hail damage, but he would go ahead and replace the entire roof (after he found out my neighbor was a cop). My neighbor referred me to his roofing contractor saying, "I'm sure you have damage up there" (and in fact, I have singles off, hail strikes on my vents and the roofing material). Once again, the adjuster arrived (not the same one as above) very nice at first until my roofing contractor showed up. Then he got all condescending and kept saying, "If you don't like my decision, you can appeal it."
He determined no hail damage. I appealed. The new guy went up there, ignored my contractor's attempts to engage him and guess what? Same decision, no hail damage. I could see that coming the minute he got up there with my contractor. I've had my auto insurance with State Farm for 40 years (we won't go there), my homeowner's insurance and my professional insurance with them for 25 years. My current agent for 9 years, I've spoken with her precisely once at which time she pretty much blew me off regarding the hail damage. I will be cancelling all my policies with State Farm, even if I have to pay more. I would rather pay more and have a company that actually covers you for what you're insured for than one that takes your money and denies your claims. Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there and there and there (if you're a male), but not here if you're a female. Ladies, call a contractor to look for damage first before you call State Farm. Don't expect equal treatment as a male policyholder! Searches of the internet will reveal multiple lawsuits against State Farm regarding their hail damage claims disputes.

My home was built in 1954, an older brick home. In my basement, water is leaking through the floor basement when it rains uncontrollably. I have a sump pump which takes out some of the water, then most of the water sits in the basement until we come home and vacuum out the rest and turn on the fan to dry out the water. We put our first claim in two years ago and were denied; the reason was because we were not covered at that time. We were under the impression that the water was coming in from the side of the house. So, we proceeded to fix the problem ourselves, but the problem did not go away.
On March 29, 2012, we called home spec which told us the water was coming from the basement floor, an old clay pipe had broken which cost $5,500 to fix. We carpet dry and a wet bar because it was wet and had mold too. We called State Farm for the second time and again were denied. We were told we were not covered. The reason why is because it is plumbing, but we could not find it in the handbook. We asked for explanation. The rep said it's complained in the book that the letter will explain it. After reading all the complaint, no matter what the problem is, State Farm is going to turn you down or cancel your policy. This company is about taking money from the consumer and not helping out.
Insurance, no matter what kind - health, auto, life - no matter what kind only is good if you don't use them. People ask me who I am with when it comes to auto and homeowner's.
