My claim adjuster tried to downplay my tragedy, condo fire on the 28th of May. After complaining several times to his bosses about him not communicating or walking me through the claim, he gave me several tasks to do as far as keeping up with receipts, taking pictures and making a list of my expenses. Then after doing these things, he changed again and questioned the way I did it, not calling me back for weeks at a time and talking down to me. I was so upset that I requested a new adjuster early in the claim, only to be denied. I am sure that because of my complaints, he's playing the race card on me now delaying my compensation and stalling. I wish that there was someone to really look into this matter.

We had a mini catastrophe in our house. The upstairs toilet had a cracked flange and was leaking sewer water in between the walls. I thought they were very responsive at first (my agent is wonderful; this complaint is about the larger, parent company), then things started popping up that they wouldn't cover. I am a first-time home buyer so I didn't know anything about choosing insurance. Oh, man, did I learn my lesson.
They don't cover mold growth even if it is caused by the leak. In Maryland, they also don't match pre-existing fixtures. For example, our house is 26 years old and has chair rail, one section of which had to be thrown out because of the damage, and State Farm said they won't pay to replace it. Likewise, there was a cabinet that has been discontinued and State Farm refused to match it stating that they don't match in Maryland. Excuse my French but this is **. It was there before, why wouldn't it be there after? We will be switching insurance as soon as possible!

Storm damage occurred on 6/30/12 - Roof lost shingles, air conditioner was damaged (not fixable), patio furniture and gas grill were damaged. I've been a loyal customer for 25 years and never filed a claim until now. State Farm rep was notified the next morning - it has taken 32 days before adjuster showed up. I was told by Nick ** (SF) that my deductible was $2000 - (I was under the thought it was $500) that the adjuster, George **, would be calling. He came from Ohio to see my damage - prepared a report that $165.64 could fix my roof and siding. Talk about insurance fraud!
I had two roof contractors prepare estimate - neither will repair the damage for the amount stated; both recommend new roof due to loose shingles and pop up areas ($7,000 estimate) from storm damage. They will pay $275.54 to repair my air condition - estimate of $2200 from contractor. They will pay $212 for a stainless steel gas grill and $212 for patio furniture. Both items alone are well over $600. This is convenient. When added together, they come in under the $2000 deductible. I guess my next step is to issue a complaint to State Farm Insurance and complain to WV Attorney General. Message to other policy holders - like a good neighbor, State Farm is not there!

I recently received a letter from State Farm informing me that they will not be renewing my homeowner's insurance policy because I have filed approximately $2,000 in claims since 2008. Since I have paid them over $4,800 in premiums during this period and I have had all of my insurance (including auto) with them for over 30 years, I think their action is outrageous. They listed three claims during the past several years, one of which was for $0.00. For over 30 years, I have been an excellent customer, filing very few claims (and no large ones) and paying them well over $60,000 in premiums. Now I see that there is no such thing as customer loyalty and their advertisements about being a good neighbor are a complete lie. They cannot even give me a good reason why they are choosing not to renew. The amount of claims is miniscule. I guess they are really upset by that one for $0.
I'd like to know if there is any claim amount at all that they would consider acceptable. Their message is clear: We'll be more than happy to take your money every year, but if you have the nerve to make us act like an insurance company and actually pay a claim, we'll get rid of you. I don't want to try to persuade State Farm to reverse their decision. The damage is done and I will not do business with such a sleazy company, which obviously places no value on their customers at all except for an income stream. I want to know exactly why they decided to cancel. All I can tell from the letter they sent to me is that I filed a couple of small claims. If that's the only reason, then they should not be permitted to do business in Virginia.
If an insurance company's business model is to abandon any customer who files claims, no matter how small, then they are thieves, not a business that provides value to its clients. I also want them punished for their behavior. I will do everything I can to publicize their disgraceful practices through every media channel I can find. If you are looking for an insurance company, do not consider State Farm. They are liars and people driven by greed who have no regard at all for their customers.

My husband and I took out a renter's insurance policy on 29th June 2012 with State Farm. We went to the local State Farm office in Boulder, Colorado and paid cash for one year's premium for $133. We got a receipt. The employee with whom we conducted the transaction was Tom **. We also met the agent, Patrick **. A couple of days later, I left a message on Patrick **'s voice mail with a couple of questions. He never returned my call. Before we took out the policy, Tom ** called me twice a day for two days and I thought how wonderful he was. The day after we took out the policy, I called with a question and he blew me off with a few words and was not interested.
Now, on 20th July 2012, I received a letter from State Farm Insurance demanding $141 so that my policy may come into effect! Why is this? What did the agent do with the $133 that we paid in cash to Tom ** (who is no longer working there) and for which we got the receipt? Why are they asking for an extra $8? And why are they asking for the whole amount of $133 after we have already paid for it in cash? What's going on? This is the first time that we have taken out renter's insurance and our experience is already unpleasant.

Premiums were paid to State Farm by me, the Trustee and Real Estate Manager for the Property Owner Trust, the Policyholder for the Property in Rochester, NY within the time period of 8-16-93 to 8-16-99. In 2005, a former tenant/parent/natural guardian of an infant commenced a lawsuit against the Trustee and Real Estate Manager and the Property Owner Trust. The former tenant/parent/natural guardian of an infant was a tenant in September 1993 of the property where she lived with her infant child. It was alleged that the infant child ingested lead paint from the property during the period that the policy was in effect. State Farm refused to defend the Trustee and Real Estate Manager, despite the fact the policy clearly stated that the insured included the organization trustees and real estate manager. Therefore, I had to defend ourselves and hire an attorney to assist us in our defense.
Eventually State Farm settled with the plaintiffs out of court; however, they never reimbursed me for our attorney costs, court costs, and considerable pro se work that I put into defending ourselves in this lawsuit. This is surprising to me, since no coverage was provided to me in the capacity of a real estate manager immediately when the summons and complaint was provided to State Farm. How else would the plaintiff have known that I was associated with the property? If I collected rent, gave them the key, then what would have I been if I was not a trustee or a real estate manager? I made sure that the premium was paid in full to State Farm. Why would I have done this if I was not a trustee or a manager?
State Farm was comfortable with the Trust being the named insured when accepting the premium and freely corresponded with me about the coverage when receiving the premiums. When State Farm was providing coverage for The Trust, I was asked for information from State Farm in order for them to prepare a defense. Why is it that I was good enough to help them, but not good enough for them to defend? When State Farm was providing for the defense of The Trust, who was it that State Farm contended, the Trustee of Sawyer Trust? I have not received any response from and no answers to the above from State Farm.
State Farm had an obligation to defend me, both as trustee and as property manager. They failed to do so, so I was forced to hire an attorney to help me prepare responses to the plaintiff's motion and to prepare answers to the complaints. I have not been reimbursed for my out of pocket legal expenses or all my time in working on the same.

Attention, everyone (including State Farm Insurance policy holders): I had State Farm fire insurance/homeowner's insurance for my Louisiana home purchased through the local agent, Mike **. In July 2011, I had a total loss due to fire. However, now, State Farm won't act responsibly by paying on my claim for my contents/personal property after a full year! The local State Farm Claims office is saying, it's because I don't have any documentation to show proof of purchase which I can't possibly have as everything had burned up in the fire in my home.
I submitted their claim forms on which the total claim amounts for my contents/personal property far exceeds my total coverage limits available for payment. State Farm should now pay my claim because the total amount of all my burnt/damaged contents/personal property (which was obvious and visible, even on their own photos/records) had much more cost/value above the insurance coverage limits/amounts. Let me repeat that State Farm's own documentation (photos, forms, etc. ) shows/proves documentation/evidence for most of the contents/personal property. However, State Farm is still refusing to pay my claim. State Farm is completely and absolutely denying their responsibility for paying my claim for insurance coverage on which they gladly had taken/accepted my insurance premiums. Also, I was denied payment for reimbursement of additional living expenses (laundry and food expenses) which were included in my homeowner's insurance.
I tried working with the local claim office; however, they were not cooperative, quite argumentative and contrary, and subsequently are denying to pay on my claim allegedly due to lack of my own documentation which they already have the necessary/sufficient documentation in their own records! I thought State Farm was supposed to be one of the best insurance companies around. So, what is going on with them?! So, until my legitimate claim is completely paid in full, I will continue to let everyone know about State Farm's unfair business practices (taking insurance premiums while slowly delaying and denying paying on covered claims). Has anyone else had similar problems with State Farm paying their claim? If so, how did you handle the situation and what advice can you suggest? Any thoughts and comments would be greatly appreciated as I need help because I have been completely wronged by State Farm!

The State Farm Insurance denied my claim after 7 years. Our house burnt on October 11, 2011 and the State Farm was our insurance company. State Farm did provide us temporary shelter for 6 months and after which, they told us our claim was denied. There was no reason given. My family's personal property such as clothing & family heirlooms, which could never be replaced, were destroyed in the fire. Now, we are living in a home which I would not let an animal live. The roof is leaking and I believe there is mold in the hallway. All State Farm Rep.** could say is "Haven`t We Done Enough For You?" Thank you State Farm.

We just had hail this year, 2012 and last year, and the year before but they were not going to pay to repair my roof. I disagreed with him. I called the claim department about it. He told me to get a contractor to look at it and give an estimate of the damage, which I did send. I called several times. They never did return my call. Finally, I caught up with him. He said he was going to send another adjuster out but he sent the same ** excuse the French, just angry as hell, never missed a payment. I have 4 autos insured with them, 2 bank loans with them and life insurance, never late and get treated like dog **. I don't want to say this but I really think it's because I'm black. I can't think of any other reason, can you? If so, please let me know.

In 2012, State Farm cancelled our insurance after a 22-year relationship, the first 20 of which we had made no insurance claims. We were unceremoniously dropped (by form letter) in 2012 after a claim for hail damage to our roof (roof replacement). We had made a minor claim for hail damage ($1000) in 2009. We were not given any specific reason for being dropped. At first, the agent said that we were being dropped because we had not followed the suggestion by State Farm that we re-roof with high impact (and extremely expensive) shingle. Of course, SF was only going to reimburse us for standard shingle. The agent then backed off that contention when queried further.
The agent (seemingly) shared our distress at the action, but claimed that she was powerless to argue our case to management. Friends who have queried State Farm about newly-installed requirements on their own car and home insurance policies have heard the same comments from their State Farm agents. Agents are unable (and apparently unwilling) to press the case for their clients. This action by State Farm had us scrambling to find a new insurance provider with the onus of having to report, to any new insurance company, that yes, we have had insurance coverage cancelled. The whole experience gave the lie to the slogan, "Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there." They bailed on us when we had legitimate claims to make. All was hunky-dory for the first 20 years, however, when we were dutifully pushing a yearly premium across the table!

The neighbor's tree roots damaged the common shared block wall between our homes. State Farm in Dec 2011 (neighbor's insurance company) appraised the damage at $4,500 and issued us a check for 50% of the repairs as the wall is technically only 1/2 ours and 1/2 their insurer. They told us to get the wall repaired and collect the balance from the neighbor (their insurer). The neighbor, Mr. **, refused to give us his phone number so we could discuss and had delayed any repairs until now, June 2012. We hired a contractor that matched the appraised repair cost of his insurance company and after a deposit from us of $1,700, started the repairs. The neighbor, Mr. **, refuses to allow the hired contractor to repair the block wall as he has stopped him twice during the repairs, threatening to sue him if he continues working.
We have paid out now a nonrefundable deposit of $1,700.00 and cannot get the block wall repaired as Mr. ** will not allow any contractor to work. He states that his insurance company over appraised the repairs and the real repairs would be less than $300. Because the block wall is not visible to Mr. **, he is not interested in any repairs. The block wall is very visible to our home and backyard and needs to be repaired. State Farm told us they can do nothing. Mr. ** refuses to allow the repairs and we do not know how to fix 1/2 of the block wall. For the record, you couldn't put up a cotton string between the property for less than $300, let alone a 60ft concrete block wall. I hate State Farm so much that I have cancelled all our rental properties that up to now have insured us. You should also do the same. Cancel State Farm.

My 1.5-year new dishwasher blew a water hose. The water went under the hardwood floors and under the cabinets but we didn't know about the water until we observed part of the hardwood was showing signs of minor warping in line with the dishwasher. I called my State Farm agent about how to proceed and whether I should file a claim. She said if the damage is less than the deductible, I shouldn't file the claim. Within two days, the minor warping blossomed into 1 six inch high warp about 8 foot long and three foot wide. Also, we noticed water marks on the ceiling in the basement (below the dishwasher).
I called in a plumber to identify the source of the water (didn't know it was the dishwasher at the time). The plumber couldn't get to the dishwasher because the floor had warped so much it could be disassembled. The plumber then called out a disaster company who said they had to remove some of the damaged floor to free up the dishwasher. They had me sign a paper giving my consent. When they ripped up the floor near the dishwasher, there was standing water that extended under the flooring and through the black tar paper. The water extended all the way across my kitchen (about 600 sq. ft.). Getting to the dishwasher, they found that the discharge hose had fissured and broke. Behind the dishwasher, they found the wall board had been impregnated with water as well as our custom hardwood cabinets.
The disaster company said they would have to mitigate the water damage by pulling up most of the floor and taking out the floor cabinets that had been affected. Most of my kitchen was totaled. I called my State Farm agent to tell her what was going on. I told her I would be filing a claim because the damage with floors and cabinets could be up to $50,000. She said she would file the claim and have an adjuster come out the next day. All of the disaster work was done that night. The kitchen was sealed off with plastic (to keep the heat in) and a dryer and blower was set up both upstairs and downstairs.
The State Farm claims agent came out the next day. He met with the disaster people and got very angry with them accusing them of malfeasance in taking the floor up and the cabinets out. They showed him the cabinets and the water damage. They later told me it was apparent to them that the agent was a "hired gun" from State Farm coming with the intent of denying the claim because of the dollar amount. From the moment he came into the house, his attitude and demeanor was one of "I'm going to deny your claim and find a way to do it."
Well, the claim was denied and now I'm without a kitchen and will be out about $50,000 to build a new one comparable to what I had a few days ago. The claim was denied because the agent said State Farm does not cover leaks and that I should have noticed the dishwasher leaking. I told him I did when the floor started to warp. I followed up on it as soon as I noticed the damage. He also said because there was a tiny bit of mold behind the dishwasher (mold grows quickly under right conditions, moist, heat, and dark) that the problem had been going on for quite a while.
Finally, he said that there had been previous water damage. I told him that about 5 years ago, the safety trap under the sink broke, water went to the ceiling below but we fixed it. And, there was no mold that resulted only a rusted light socket. I also told him we were not filing a claim on that since we fixed it and it was such a small amount. And I said that the floor issue was less than a week old and not related to what happened 5 years ago. Well, I am going to file a lawsuit against State Farm and through media exposure (press conference, media walk-through of my kitchen [very graphic damage], the Internet and social media) make sure that people here in Utah understand how State Farm really operates.
People need to know that they are not as protected as they think they are I told the agent, when he informed me that I was denied, that I was going to litigate. He told me something very illuminating. He said that the language in my contract was so well crafted and broad related to water damage that they could deny all water damage claims if they wanted to. And if I took it to court, I would be on the hook because of that language and lose. So much for being a "good neighbor" and "State Farm Insurance, peace of mind for today and your future." I feel I have been defrauded by State Farm and will not rest until I receive full restitution.

Seven years ago, I called State Farm and told them about my roof leaking. It caused much damage plus the chimney was falling apart. Since I didn't know anyone that could repair this, my agent recommended a company. This company has since gone out of business. State Farm would only patch our roof. The company did a horrible job and chose the wrong color. In addition, I initially had a brick chimney and they put spackling on my chimney. At the bottom of the chimney, they put four pieces of sheet metal and glued it down with big globs of glue. It has now begun to leak again. We have had hail and there is some damage to our roof and our pavilion.
We called a roofer and he confirmed this. I called State Farm and it took forever for the adjuster "Paula **" to come and check out our roof. She had an attitude from the beginning. She wanted us to work on her time. She indicated that it was dangerous for her to come at 5:00 p.m. and get on our roof. She insisted that we take off work and meet her at 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Next, she was not happy that we lived in Haughton and made it perfectly clear. My husband and she fought for over 2 weeks on a meeting time. My husband had made a comment that this adjuster “Paula **" would probably say this is not covered.
He finally met with her this morning and she agreed that there was some hail damage along with the company had indeed botched up the repairs. She left and called a couple of hours later. She informed us that this is not covered! I have decided to take on State Farm. If we the people allow this to happen, it will continue. I will be seeking an attorney. I will tell everyone what a horrible company this is. I have been with State Farm for over 30 years.

We sent a claim in the amount of $157.23 for chairs damaged as a result of hail storm. We received a check for $50.16. We contacted our local office (Steve **). They checked and said we had already received compensation for chairs in the amount $167.19. I then talked to Jen at 877-362-3598. She gave us the same information. We had never made a claim before this. We thought the checks we received previously were for the roof damage, and that it was necessary to submit actual bill for personal property. We have never had a claim that has not resulted in a hassle. I think this one was the straw that broke the camel's back and that we will need to seek insurance from another company.
In the meantime, we will be having this matter referred to our lawyer. We have homeowners insurance, rental insurance, and insurance for four vehicles. I would think we would have better representation considering the amount of years we have been with State Farm and the number of policies we have with State Farm. Needless to say, we are very disappointed in both coverage and understandable explanations. We will have our attorney contact you in the near future.

I had a very bad experience with a State Farm agent (Name: **) last Saturday, April 14th, 2012. I sent my wife some days before to request information about a Flood Insurance Policy. He did not provide the information but he filled out the papers and the premium fee was deducted without giving me the opportunity to read the policy. He informed her that their schedule is from Monday to Friday--not including Saturdays. He accepted a meeting on Saturday, April 14th, 2012 to sign the policy at 12:00 noon. I am unable to go from Monday to Friday due to my work schedule.
The office is located on 948 West Hallandale Beach Boulevard, FL 33009. I also lived in Hallandale Beach and was waiting for him at the scheduled time. He did not appear until 1:00 PM and I told him that I was waiting for him outside for about 50 minutes. His answer was very rude and told me that if I was not happy, he was ready to cancel the policy. I accepted and he started to scream. He showed a very violent temperament and refused to answer my questions.
Finally. I accepted to sign the papers because at this point, I was very afraid of him. The real reason why I cancelled the policy is the bad customer service experience not because of another agency as what he wrote in the paper. This is to let you know that I was not treated as a customer and was not given the right to ask questions. I am complaining about the way State Farm agents treat customers. State Farm has never paid a claim for me for repairs of any kind for my home. When I did need their help, my claim for a roof repair was denied. I complained to my agent, Bob **, and never got a response from him or his office. My contact at the office, Christy, told me that ** would call me because he would be "so concerned" about me as a good customer. Well, I never heard from ** and when I called Christy again, she never returned the call.
I was told to contact a Mr. **, the VP in charge of State Farm agents. I contacted him via email and did not hear from him either. What I did get from State Farm was a letter stating that they were going to cancel my coverage in April 2013 if I did not get my roof repaired. Instead of Bob **, ** or Christy calling me back to deal with me personally, they decided to send me a letter of cancellation because I "dared" to question them regarding how they were treating a customer in good-standing. For 19 years, State Farm has received more in policy premiums from me than they were ever going to pay out to have a roof replaced.
I would suggest that when looking for insurance from "any" company, consider that, if you should ever need to file a claim, they possibly will not cover you. They will make up any excuse to not pay out, even if you have faithfully paid your premiums to them. There is no such thing as loyalty to customers from companies, so don't be loyal to them. Don't stay with any company for 19 years. These companies, like State Farm, have no integrity.

He became rude and abrasive and hung up on me several times in trying to get the insurance to cover damages. If State Farm is like a good neighbor, I sure would hate to have a bad neighbor. I had enough problems with the flooding and even more with trying to get it fixed by State Farm. They like to get the payment, but they don't like to fix your property back as it was. Stay away from this one.

State Farm stopped my coverage over a misunderstanding - On February 1st 2012, State Farm at The 2500 Memorial Boulevard, Murfreesboro, Tennessee mailed me a notice that read: We can no longer give you coverage as of April 21st 2012; you will no longer be covered by this policy.
They mailed a message to my mortgage company which is Midland Mortgage, P.O. Box 26648 Oklahoma City, OK 73126-0648. My loan number is **. The State Farm policy covers my Mobile Home plus 5 acres at **, Sadieville, KY. Their agent here is Becky Jordan Insurance Agency, Inc. 749 S. Broadway, Georgetown, KY. I bought this property in 1993 on an FHA loan, which at that time was covering Single Wide Mobile Homes; ours is a 14’ x 70’ North River single wide You cannot do this now. Fannie Mae no longer finances single wide homes.
I called the Georgetown, KY office of State Farm and asked if I was entitled to a new mobile home 14’ x 70’ to replace this one as it had been struck by lightning and the bolt fried a whole bunch of the socket outlets and light/wall switches and when the inspector came out to look at the home, he gave it a ‘Scrap Title’ rating. The Georgetown office said I was not going to get a new home because they had the program of sending an electrician to us and fix the electric wiring to a "back to original" 100% fixed. We did not file a claim because it was easier and a lot cheaper to pay my stepson, Mr. Israel ** (age 30) to fix it all and he did.
Now, here’s the crazy part. State Farm sent out an inspector to look over my property and they reported that there were siding panels missing. OK, so what? We were committed to replacing all the inferior building siding panels with Lowe’s of Georgetown’s much better siding and it ain't cheap. But we have money (thank God) and we know how to rebuild such a mobile home. The next reason for our policy termination by the State Farm inspector was, “Your disposal of trash effort needs work. This does not work for us." Well, I'll be damned. What about that? I don't see piles of garbage bags contractor grade all over our yard. What I see are worm beds under same trash bags that contain worm food.
By cancelling my homeowner’s policy, State Farm put me in jeopardy with Midland Mortgage. I've been here 19 years and never filed a claim for the first ** thing. We prefer to fix stuff ourselves since we know how and quicker. All the live bait we produce here are seasonal crop, just like corn and soybeans. And to wait for an insurance claim to fix anything, will drag us down and cost us money. There is no such thing as spare time in this business. Now I wait for the 15th of April 2012 which is the day our agent here in Scott County, KY said she would come out to our property and take photos which might cancel out the loss of coverage with their company. So the jury's still out on this one. I will let everyone on this site know how it turns out.

After my stepfather was found passed away for seven days in his house, we filed a claim to have the house cleaned with State Farm. They did pay for the cleaning of the bedroom where he was found. But when I asked if they would pay to have the entire house cleaned (as two cats were locked in with him and urinated on the carpets), they said no, that it's not covered. I explained that the cats urinated in the house due to the fact that he had passed away. The claims adjuster explained his decision to me as follows: "If you left dogs in the house and went on vacation for a weekend, then the dogs went to the bathroom in your house. State Farm would not pay for that cleaning either."
I explained to him that death is not a vacation, so then he said, "If State Farm paid to clean the whole house, they would not be in business as they have so many of these types of requests." This guy was impersonal and about as stupid as I could imagine. His on-site claims adjuster told me, "I cannot negotiate with you as you are not the executor." I reminded her that the executor is assigned three months after the death through probate and we could not wait three months to clean up the house. She did not seem to understand this simple concept and process either, making the situation even less manageable.

I have a State Farm homeowner’s insurance for many years thinking that it is a reputable and good one, only to discover a reality that it is indeed only a false statement. We had a hail storm in Rockford that had damaged a lot of roofing in our neighborhood, including all homes surrounding ours. And when we had filed a claim for our roof, an adjuster came in and claims that our roof is aging and that was the problem; as such, they denied the claim. When we objected to that, another adjuster came in and of course sided with the first one.
It seems that it is their normal action that when the first reject the claim, the second will side with that claims in most cases. And all the neighbors fortunately have different insurances and had their roofing replaced. I definitely will be looking to a different insurance that really cares about their customers and not like the one that pays millions on their ads and does not stick to their words. I am not only dissatisfied, but very angry for being fooled in that manner.

The last question I was asked was if I had any claims to any insurance agency in the past 5 years. I said that I had one in the 63 years I have been on the earth and that it was 14 months ago. I was told "Sorry, it is our policy not to write insurance if you had a claim in the last 5 years."
This is out of step with others in the industry I have contacted. She then referred me to two other agencies that would "help with these types of accounts." I told her that if this was how they treated new business, I would be concerned if they were my insurer and I had to file a claim. After reading the experiences here, I can see why they serve little purpose in the insurance community.

I was doing some shopping around with insurance companies and the one that stood out to me during our phone conversation was State Farm, an auspicious beginning to an ominous and deleterious ending. Yes, the title says it all and you now probably see where this is going. I was cajoled by delusions of grandeur. They told me over the phone they could save me hundreds of dollars in monthly costs. They spent time going over my records, told me how much they could save me for my house, cars, RV, etc. It all sounded so wonderful. So I booked a day to meet and sign the contract, cancelled my old insurance policy and headed on down to their place of operation. Little did I know I was booking some theatrical act and not just a mere occasion to sign some insurance policies.
It started out with me entering the office and seeing our agent talking to the owner of the place. Soon enough, we're hearing little sweet oopsie lines like "Oh, we didn't see these two tickets", "oh, that other guy didn't add your other son on this policy". State Farm took so long to send an adjuster, the interior damage got worse so it was a sizable claim for over $8500. Earlier this month, I received a letter that they are dropping me because of a 2010 claim with my other agency that did not result in any money being paid out (an inspector said the damage was less than my deductible) and because of the size of this claim within the first year with them. They will not reinstate me and being dropped will make it harder and more expensive for simple homeowners insurance.

Contacted SF, they said that they couldn't cover the loss since it was over a year since I actually saw the jewelry. The loss adjuster was extremely arrogant and rude. Shortly after, I received a denial letter that quoted my policy to back up the denial. Only problem was, the letter clearly stated that my policy considered the jewelry lost upon discovery. This meant that the date of loss was the day when I unboxed everything and realized that the jewelry was missing, not the last known time I saw my jewelry, which was the date that SF considered the items lost. I had once again called in the beginning of December to seek help on my claim and she is never available, but I finally reached on December 14, 2011. She was upset, pissed off at me and would not talk to me and/or was very blunt to answer my questions. She was not giving me any response or answers other than "I don't know", "that's not my problem", "I have no idea", "call claims, not me". At that point, I stopped and I asked her "can you please be honest with me, are you doing this because it looks bad on your book of business?". She did not deny my question and she stated that it's a claim issue, so I did what she asked and I called Claims.
He said that she was giving me the runaround and does sound that she is refusing to help me and strongly suggested that I call her again or another office that can help me. I called Kathy again and I pleaded with her and told her "Kathy, you have been in business for a very long time more than 20-30 years and you know this business with your eyes shut. Why are you doing this to me? I am getting slapped not only by you but the robber. It's not fair and I have been with you since 2006-2007 and never gave you a problem. Please work with me". At this point, she calmed down a bit and said "underwriting will not renew your policy due to your several losses". I knew she was lying at that point because I have only had one loss and I told her that. She said collect your money from the second claim but you will not be able to return to State Farm ever again and you will have to pay a lot of money to a broker, so good luck!
At that point, I said that is not fair for one claim and they are not renewing me, why? She didn't answer and said I can save your policy if you close out your second claim, higher your deductible, get an alarm through someone I know, but I can't waist a phone call for you if you don't do what I say. I can save your policy and you can stay with me at the same rate you have now. If not, good luck on finding someone who will insure you cause they won't! I agreed and did what she told me. But because at this point I didn't trust her, I emailed her on Dec. 15, 2011 and I tried carefully to write a nice FYI letter telling her and reminding her of the promise she made making sure I wasn't upsetting her anymore than what she was. But she was even more upset because I sent that email or because I was documenting the conversation.
At this point, she would not email me back but call me. We spoke and she said she can't help me anymore and underwriting informed her that she is only to say she sells insurance and takes claims. That's all! So she called underwriting because she needs help how to get out of her personal situation but not for my policy. Rating the experience would be a zero because my parents paid into State Farm for 50 some years and had a house fire in 2007 on Christmas day. A State Farm agent told mom, “Don't worry, you have the best insurance that money could buy.” Well, let's just say that State Farm brought in a contractor, a fine young contractor that the agency would have use if he needed one. State Farm would not allow my parents to have who they wanted to do the work. My parents were forced into this fine young contractor that destroyed the house, worse than the fire. This company put on a roof that was so bad and even admitted to it. The contractor and his lawyer laughed about it. There were leaks and molds everywhere in the house. This company painted vents on the solid wood floors without any protection and walked through the home with paint on their shoes that one could actually followed their route. They broke furniture and ceiling fixtures, mismatched part to my parents' bed that we couldn't put the bed together. Things turned up missing like family heirlooms.
The contractor has given his employees a key to our home. One of the company employee thanked me personally because he was the only one that didn't have a key to the house and I responded, "Why? Does all of you need a key?" And his reply was, "So they could come and go whenever they wanted, day and night." So think about that possibility of 6-10 employees who have a key to our home. Those keys were never given back to us but we changed the lock as soon as I found that out. My father’s last dying wish was to come home and he passed away in 2009 but never returned home. We could not live in our home because of the bad roof and water damage. This company torn the bricks off of our chimney and used landscaping bricks to place on the shingles that they didn't nailed down so a lot of bricks were on the roof.
We finally moved home last year in March 2010. This contractor filed a lawsuit against my parents after leaving us with a mess that was so bad. We trusted this company because of State that they will do the best job that the fine young contractor promised all along and well, my mom is counter suiting. Where was State Farm in all of this? Well, they did nothing to help us. Oh, yes, I forgot, yes, they did. State Farm was going to stop that payment on the rental furniture and have it taken back to the rental place. The agency also wrote a letter stating that the insurance was canceled because of the ‘poor workmanship’ on the roof. Hey, State Farm! It was your company that put the poor roof on to begin with and did the damage to our home. Did you think of that? Don't you care about your clients?
Thank you, State Farm for all your support in doing nothing to help my parents in their needs after they trusted you as their insurance company for 50 some years. State Farm ran with their tails between their legs. Buyers beware! Oh, one more thing. State Farm brought in 2 agencies to see the damage done to our home and roof. They couldn't believe what their company did. State Farm claims that they do not hire contractors. Then why bring contractors to people's homes and force people to use them. Why? One of the State Farm agents said to me, “Thank God, he hired professionals to do the work at his house." I couldn't believe what I was hearing and said, "What?” and the agent repeated his statement again to me. This was the same agent that said he would have used this company to do the work at his home. Hello! I just had an experience that needs to be communicated to others. I sat down at my State Farm agent's office about 6 years ago when I purchased my home and had them explain everything to me because I don't understand some insurance terms. I did this to insure I had the coverage and deductible amounts I needed. I never had to do a claim until this weekend and I found out today my deductible was raised, without my knowledge, to a level I would never have been comfortable with, ever.
I was very confused since I have to sign papers for everything to change my policy. A month ago, I had to sign a form and have a witness to change the beneficiary on my life insurance through State Farm. I have had to sign and fax forms to add cars or items to my policy, to cancel cars or items, to change agents, to start electronic payments and to cancel a policy. However, I learned today State Farm changed our contract by changing my deductible without my signature. According to my agent, the letter that came in my policy renewal (he didn't know when or what renewal) stating I would need to sign the form to keep my policy the same. That is not only confusing needing to sign a form to keep the signed contract the same since it is the opposite of everything else they do. But also, the opposite of standard contract law that both parties have to sign to change a contract and both are provided a new copy with the new terms.
My agent advised that State Farm, as a corporation, changed this for all home owners policies in the same way and they did it to reduce small claims since there have been so many catastrophic claims in the last few years. I never received a lower premium rate for the higher deductible they changed my policy too. I gladly accepted a higher premium price when I purchased, signed and paid years for the lower deductible amount. I receive so much marketing mail from State Farm I never would have thought one of those letters was not a offer to change my policy in a marketing form, if I chose to contact them and make a change.
Contract renewal should be just that, detail of the items agreed upon in the signed contract they are renewing, not changes they are making to my contract, changes are not a renewal, those are two different things. I randomly get voice-mail recordings from my agent offering to sell me more coverage but never did it say because they changed deductibles and we may need to review our deductible amounts.
How can they change a contract without a signature - meeting of the minds? Changing contracts and understanding like this opens an unethical flood gate. They could go as extreme as to change beneficiaries to State Farm employee's if they want to. State Farm may be a big company but they should not be allowed to switch back and forth from real contract law requiring to not requiring signatures depending on what helps them financially.
I have already spoke to two different people who have State Farm within one hour of finding this out and they were not aware of or seen the form in their renewal policy. There are going to be many people put in bad financial positions in this tough economy in a very sneaky shady way. Others need to know this. We not only had 90% the life in our reef tank die, our home flooded but the coverage I knew I had that made me believe it would be okay, was no longer what I knew I bought and was still paying for. Please help prevent anyone else from dealing with this after what in my opinion was a catastrophic event to our family. There was life in that tank and now there is not but the dollar value is not "catastrophic" so it's not covered under the new State Farm view of "catastrophic".

They send out their engineering company and say that none of these problems were created from the leaks. haha. I might be blonde but I'm not stupid. These engineers they send out work for State Farm. They say they are independent, but they don't work for hardly anyone else. Certainly not for any individuals trying to fight their insurance company. These Engineering companies that have no morals and do this for the Insurance companies should lose their licensing and not be able to practice any longer. They are just as crooked as State Farm.
This engineer even said that I would not loose any soil down a busted sewer line. Everyone knows soil gets sucked down sewage lines. Shifting the land from uphill or making a big sink hole. I told that engineer he should go back to school. I have been fighting with them over a yr...because State Farm told me if I wanted to hire an engineer and get a report that they would review my case. That was a lie! I got 2 engineer reports, stating the cause of my problems was because of the leaks...paid out a lot of money just for them to say, 'we still are denying it'.
State Farm was just trying to waste my time and drag this out to the point where I would run out of time to sue them. I'm looking into attorneys now. BTW, I have had ins on my last two houses with them (20 yrs) and my auto for 25 yrs...and this is how they treat me! Wow. I asked if there was anyone that I could speak to, and again she said everyone is on lunch. I said then you should close your office, or put a note on the door. She took my information, and then I said I'd rather speak to someone face to face, instead of doing this important information over the phone. She offered no solution, but a phone conversation.
I left State Farm Insurance Company. I will not recommend them to anyone, nor will I use them myself, because the three ladies eating lunch could not leave their lunch, but instead would, and did leave the office unattended. Shame on them.

I would rate State Farm a zero star if this site would allow it. Not only are their premiums twice as much as the competitive market rates, but the company immediately began threatening to cancel our coverage when our house was burglarized. The only customer care that I received were a number of phone calls to convince me that I should raise my coverage amount, thereby increasing the already too high premium. Two weeks ago, I received a terse letter from State Farm notifying me that they decided to cancel my home insurance coverage. No reason given, no option to appeal. No anything. They were very efficient in notifying my mortgage bank that they are canceling the coverage so that the bank could panic and warn me that I better get a homeowners insurance or else. I have been with State Farm since 1985. I had two houses, boats, two autos, hospital policies and etc. with State Farm. My agent of 26 years Suzanne ** was negligent in rating my flood insurance policy for the Ft. Lauderdale house. It was built in a flood zone "B" which I found out did not require a flood elevation certificate but in 1992 it changed to a flood zone "AH" which with a flood elevation certificate would have been around $1300.00 cheaper each year.
Her argument and State Farm's corporate office say "you the insured" should have told us about the change. When did it become the insured's job to know the insurance, isn't this what an agent is for? Otherwise you could just send in your premiums yourself. After much arguing I found a document in the safe that State Farm ordered in 1998 to determine my flood zone. It said "AH", now they say I didn't have an elevation certificate so "AH" is higher without it.
Well FEMA requires an elevation certificate before writing any policies in a flood zone "AH". State Farm is denying any assistance and wrote a letter again stating I should have had an elevation certificate. This all came about when State Farm raised my homeowners insurance from $2800 a year to $8900 a year when I left for an independent agent.
They asked if I wanted to change my flood servicing to them and I said yes. They said I have to have a flood elevation certificate to write it. I called State Farm and that is when I found out they apparently did not have one or refused to provide it. When I obtained one, the rate went from around $1500 a year to $498 a year so for the past 19 years State Farm has been ripping me off and their agents make 20% commission on these policies. We need a class action lawsuit. Check your flood policies and your zone with your city or get an elevation certificate now.

I asked my agent and his staff many times if I was covered as I was catching a lot of flak from my other business associates who were paying 3-4 times more for their policy. Even though my State Farm Agent told me I was covered, every single agent from other insurance companies stated that all homeowner policies do not cover "a business in the home". I finally asked my agent to put something in writing, and at this point he finally told me I was not covered according to his head office.
My experience is nothing new and I find people all over the country with State Farm Insurance who say they are covered under their homeowner's policy. This is 100% wrong. I see that State Farm is doing a lot of negative advertising, or using scare tactics to keep you with State Farm. One commercial shows a man in a car accident on the phone with his State Farm Agent. He asks: "Hello. Am I still covered?" The agent replies: "No Bill, I'm sorry, but you dropped us back about 5 months ago". The man goes on to plead over the phone: "Please take me back Jessica!”
Another thing about State Farm and all insurance companies is this: They want to get you the lowest rate possible so you will switch and buy their policy. To do this, they are selling you a policy that has only a minimum amount of coverage. Perhaps only $30,000, or whatever the minimum required by the state. After gaining a lot of distrust for State Farm, I looked into my motorcycle policy with them and they wanted to charge me $400, up from the $300 I was paying. I decided to go with Progressive which is better known for cycle policies and found a better policy for only $100. I was being robbed for many years by my agent. He could give no answer why the rate was 3 times higher.

State Farm inspected the property and determined that in their convoluted language, they are not responsible for the damage relating to "earth movement." It is now September 28th and we still have not settled the claim.
At first they wrote me a letter describing what I needed to do to get my stuff paid for. I did everything they asked. Then a week later, they started asking for more stuff. Then in 2003, we had a leak in our basement, and I called to just check if it was covered. Since it was a weekend, the girl who answered said she was not sure but would check and get back to me on Monday. She did and told me it was not covered. A few months went by and we received a letter from State Farm that they were cancelling my policy due to too many claims. I called my agent and told them I didn't put in a claim for the water damage and that I was just inquiring if I was covered. They didn't cancel my coverage but told me that my deductible would be raised to $1,000. Funny, it was the same amount they gave my son for the robbery.
Now comes the hurricane last month. My roof was damaged and it came through the ceiling causing the tiles to fall down, wood floor to be damaged, and walls to be damaged from the leaking. The adjuster came out this week, looked at it, and told me that I have a $2,000 deductible. Have the damage repaired, send them receipts, and they will give me a check minus my deductible. I called my agent and was told that indeed my deductible was $2,000.00.
I asked when this change came about. She told me that since I had two claims it was increased. I told her that I never made a claim for water damage, I was just inquiring. Then she said that an adjuster came to check the water leak. No one ever came; I just talked on the phone. I guess that's how they make adjustments. I just renewed my policy in July, but you can bet it will be the last.

On August 23rd and 24th my house was broken into; the thief stole two computers with their attached monitors, my home theatre system (he did not get my HDTV monitor however) as well as the Magic Jack card inserted into one of the computers, an MP3 player, a digital camera, and a bottle of prescription medicine that I need. Besides having to go to the hospital for two and half days because I did not have my prescription and could not get it emergency refilled over the weekend, I felt very angry and unsettled about the entire experience, obviously. I called the police; they came over, and looked around. There was not any obvious sign of forced entry (although my door handle was noticeably loosened), and they did not take fingerprints. They had me get all the model numbers and serial numbers, and they created an official police report.
Then, I called my insurance company, State Farm. This was the first time I have ever filed a homeowner’s insurance claim in my life, and I have been a homeowner since 1998. I have been with State Farm since 2006. I have never really had a problem with them either; I always renewed my contract with them, and paid my bills on time, if not quarterly. Now back to my claim. When I originally called my local agent, a woman answered and I told her about the incident. Most importantly, she told me that State Farm does not go by the depreciated value of the items that were stolen. Instead, they go by the actual cost of the original purchase. I still had the receipts for the home theatre system and both computers; the other items I did not have the receipts for, but probably added up to about $150. She gave me the phone number for the claims department, which I called the following Monday. I started the claims process going, and I did everything I was asked. I had a few conversations with different members of "Team 41" and they proceeded to tell me encouraging, contradictory, and sometimes disheartening news. Some of the Team 41 members told me incorrect information, regarding depreciation and how I am reimbursed, and so forth.
The first sign of problem was this the deductible I originally signed up for was $1000. At some point in the last two-three years or so, they changed their deductible policy "across-the-board" to 1 percent of the amount that State Farm would have to pay if your house was totally destroyed. For me, it was $130,000 (in this market there is no way I could sell my house for that much, either) making my new deductible $1,300. They informed me in my yearly renewal letter, and the wording was in small print. I did not notice the change, and I apparently did not need to sign it in acknowledgment either. The change is assumed acceptable if you continue to simply pay your bills. So, I was shocked (but not too upset) when I discovered this as I was filing my claim, as $300 is not the end of the world. The original cost of all the items that were stolen was about $2600, so I thought there was plenty left over to replace the missing equipment. Still, I was pretty miffed and suspicious.
Today I called back regarding some questions about my claim. A Team 41 member named "Jared", whom I had spoke to before, informed me that State Farm does not depreciate the value of the stolen items! He added up the benefits I would receive from the depreciated items on my claim and it came to $1,309. So, I get nine bucks! I called my local agent Lenny ** in Saint Louis, and spoke to his son LJ, who seems to run the operation now. He listened to my story, and promised to call the claims department on my behalf late this afternoon. So, now I am awaiting their decision. As long as they replace my refurbished computer and monitor with a similar one that I purchased at MicroCenter at a huge discount (under $300), I said I would find that somewhat acceptable. I already bought a cheap home theatre system, so I can get sound on my HDTV, and I really don't care too much for the other items, but they do add up. So, I think I am going to ask for a $400-450 computer and monitor system.
If they do not do this, and basically screw me over, I have decided to take legal and public action. If any of you all want to file a class action lawsuit against State Farm, let me know. I know a bunch of attorneys, and one who specializes in this type of litigation.

First, allow me to state that this complaint is not registered against any one individual within the State Farm organization, especially Barbara **. It is against the standing State Farm practices and stated procedures that cannot and will not be overruled regardless of circumstances. The issue is that our homeowners policy was canceled after 40 plus years and 6 digits in total premiums because of a claim that was not our fault. A contractor ruined the siding on our house during cleaning and his insurance would not cover it. We submitted it to State Farm so they could work with the contractor's insurance carrier for a mutual agreement. State Farm never contacted us on the outcome of the negotiations. Otherwise, we may have agreed to pay a part of the claim to lower the cost. This was a claim for over $20,000, which we agree was substantial. We thought everything was okay. This was 4 years ago.
This year, we filed a claim for a lost bracelet that my wife has had for 20 years, for a loss of $2,500. Lo and behold, we received a cancellation notice due to the two claims being more than their allowed amount over a 5-year period. We were shocked. Our agent rep (Barbara **) tried to help resolve the situation. And then, we spoke with a corporate rep to no avail. My sewer line backed up and I filed a claim with State Farm. They sent ServPro out to help us clean up the mess in the basement. At no time did they imply that we were not covered. The plumbers identified the problem to be a blockage in the sewer line that runs from the house to the street, and they found some roots growing in the line. State Farm then denied the claim, indicating that they would not cover us in spite of the fact that we had been with them for 18 years, had never been offered sewer/drain backup coverage and had never denied such coverage.
Not only were they negligent in selling us a policy without informing us that this was a necessary endorsement to have on the policy for a home owner, they never once brought up the idea of adding it to our policy during reviews over the 18 years we have had coverage with them. Furthermore, they now refuse to pay a dime toward the ServPro folks who billed us for more than $2,000 for their "mitigation" efforts. Never in a million years would we have accepted State Farm's help via ServPro if they had indicated at the time of the claim initiation that: (a) we lacked the needed sewer/drain endorsement on our policy, and (b) we would not be covered at all for the costs billed to State Farm by ServPro. State Farm policies are not worth the paper they are printed on and we will be taking our insurance business elsewhere.

My grandfather had Homeowners Insurance with State Farm on a rental property. He had a large tree in the backyard that was dead and needed to be cut down. He payed someone two separate times to cut the tree down and both times they never came. He could not afford to pay for it again. My husband agreed to do it for him.
He was about 30 feet up in the tree and fell. He suffered dozens of fractures in his skull, a severed ear canal (he can no longer hear out of that ear), fractures in his back and ribs. He had just completed his master's degree which he worked so hard for with a family. He was unable to work for quite some time and will never be the same. In so many ways, his life was ruined. State Farm would not pay one cent. We have suffered so much as a family because of this and I don't think financially we can ever recover. They shouldn't be able to get away with this.

I had been a State Farm customer for about 20 years. Three years ago, I had an issue at one house with rotten sill, a friend told me to call State Farm, my insurance company as it may be covered. I explained the issue and they said probably not covered but we will come look anyway. I said ok. They came said it was not covered and left. We were in agreement.
Two years later at another house that was insured also by State Farm, I had a roof leak, called State Farm, the came out, agreed there was an issue and said you can use our contractors to fix it. We were in agreement. The fixed the issue and a few months later I renewed my policy as normal.
A year later, yes a year later, one of the contractors, Service Master Elite, 12 Continental Blvd, Merrimack, NH 03054. sends me a bill for $625. I called them and asked them what this is for and they said it is for a deductible. I told them that was not the correct amount of my deductible so they then send a bill for $500. After going back and forth with them for months State Farm never paid them and I owe it to them. I bring this to State Farm attention and they dropped my policy and told me I owe Service Master $500 and I have had too many claims. What is odd, the rotten sill claim, in which there is no pay out, they counted as a claim. They renewed me the prior year after the water damage but not the next. The only conversation I had with State Farm was about a Service Master Elite bill from over a year ago. I did some further digging and find out that between my claim date and the prior year that there were a number of law suits between State Farm and the contractors they recommend for insurance work. Service Master is double collecting on this and I have no way to prove it. When ask why they changed the billing amount someone stated in an email it was from a verbal agreement. How Many insurance companies have verbal agreements with their contractors????
I would advise any and all people to just stay away from Service Master Elite in NH and State Farm. Service Master decided to double bill people a year later and State Farm did nothing about it. Service master then claims I am responsible for all payment even though they were contractor through State Farm. DON'T use Service Master or any other contractor.
If you have State Farm and have a claim, get the $ and manage any and all repairs yourself. They don't care about their long term customers and there is some sort of funny business between them and their contractors. My local State Farm rep. Mike Libel tried to help but once he said the State Farm corp. in NY make a decision it is done. Again, I am not sure what scam they have going on but I would advise all to just stay out of it. .

Talking to my neighbors, none of them were insured by State Farm. It seems I was the only one with State Farm. Three State Farm inspectors could not explain to me why all the other homes were covered except mine.

My parents were customers of State Farm, through Curtis ** (agent), and I have been since I was young and started driving. We have all our autos and home with State Farm here in Dallas County, but I see a change of Insurance Companies in the near future.
We had an adjuster from State Farm come by and assess the damages from a storm on May 24, 2011. He told me if they could not match the siding, it would be completely replaced. I was told the same by three reps. After we received a check, it was evident that he had not done a complete assessment of all damages. I put it off to the heat and he was an older gentleman and very kind.
I phoned State Farm and stated that not all the damage had been assessed. They (State Farm) had another guy call and make an appointment for July 22, 2011. He phoned to say he is running an hour late. I told him it was okay because my husband was on his way home within thirty (30) minutes. He then replied with, "I'm finishing up now and on my way." I told him that I would rather my husband be here as well. Again, he said, " I'm on my way." (he acted as though he didn't hear me or didn't care). He was in front of our house in under five (5) minutes, which I thought was strange. As soon as he stepped up on our walk way and stuck his hand out to shake, I felt very uneasy about him. I told him all that he needed to know and he acted in a way that he was being bothered and didn't want to look. He snapped a few photos of our tree stump, fence, stone landscaping and two (2) or three (3) of our siding. He then stated that he was only there to gather a piece of the siding in order to match it.
At first, he tore at a very long piece of siding that connected to our back porch and a vent, he did break this piece. I told him that there were smaller pieces, so, he stopped ripping at the larger piece and went to the back of the house and tried to rip off a piece. He was having trouble with it and said, he was unfamiliar with siding. He finally took both hands and ripped the siding off. This guy was strange and angry acting about being unable to tear the siding from the house. At this point, of him telling me he was only there for a sample of siding. I decide to go back in the house and showed him the gate in which he came through. He phoned later and told me that we had never repaired our siding from a few years ago. I replied that we had repaired all but a corner trim (We had found a house being torn down and they allowed us to take the pieces that we needed, but we couldn't find the corner trim). This guy was calling me a liar, saying it was never repaired and wrote a letter to the same effect. We called and all we were ever told were lie after lie from different reps. I did tell a representative of the guy's actions and that I did not want to speak with him again and for him to never come back to my property. It's very clear that this Mark guy is angry with my complaint of his strange actions. He needs to have power, that is easy to see from HIS actions and HIS lies. And with that, he is a scary strange person in my view.

From June to December, we were without a first floor and I have 5 children and a grandson. No kitchen, laundry room, bathroom, dining room, no floors, just moldy sub floors.
On December 18, a State investigator came to my home and told us that the man that Mike ** (State Farm adjuster) recommended to us was a violent criminal and his right hand man who was with him was wanted for sexual abuse and forced sodomy of a 10-year old and putting it on the Internet. I purchased a home in June 2006. Several years later, as I was doing some yard work in my front yard, a neighbor, who identified himself as Gary, ran from across the street to offer some assistance. During his short visit he said to me, "I work for State Farm Insurance. When you moved in I wanted to see who you had insurance with so I scanned your name & saw that you were already with State Farm". I thought this was unusual, as I did not authorize him to 'scan' anything and this was my first encounter with this man. I did however tell him that I was not satisfied with my current State Farm agent. Gary then told me that he worked for an agent by the name of Jared ** and he then suggested I switch my policy over to his office. Although I agreed to the transfer of agents, I still felt uneasy about the fact that he looked something up without my authority or knowledge.
I felt this was an invasion of my privacy. On June 10, 2011, I viewed my credit report with Experian online. I noticed that my credit report was viewed by 'LexisNexis/StateFarm' in March of 2011. I thought this was unusual, as I did not authorize such an inquiry. So I contacted my State Farm agent, Jared **, to question this. I received the company voice mail and I specifically stated that I wanted Jared ** to call me back. Although I specified this, within 5 minutes Gary called me back. Gary said "what can I do for you? " Since I did not expect Gary to call me back and since my issue was pertaining to Gary, I simply said "I just wanted to know how much I am paying for house insurance per year because I am shopping around". Gary then gave me my price and we hung up.
I then called Jared's mobile number and spoke to him directly. I went into detail about the first incident that I had with Gary in my front yard. I told him that I was concerned because I saw that State Farm has viewed my credit report in March 2011 without my authority. Jared explained that there was 'absolutely no way' that State Farm can view my credit report. I then asked him if his office had access to Lexis Nexis and he stated 'absolutely not'. He again told me that State Farm 'never' looks at existing customers' credit reports. He asked for me to send him a copy of my report to prove to him that State Farm looked at my report. I agreed and then we hung up. Nearly 15 minutes later, I received a call from Jared.
He was now in defense-mode, as his tone was now that of anger and he was now acting as if he were an attorney. Jared said to me "State Farm reviews your credit every 3 years", which is now a contradiction to his initial statement that State Farm 'never' looks at existing customers' credit reports. Jared insisted Gary 'wouldn't do such a thing'. I then reminded Jared, once again, that Gary admitted to looking up my personal information after I moved into my house. He said, "look, what you think of Gary as a neighbor is none of my business". I then reminded Jared that my first encounter with Gary was unusual, as he (Gary) was discussing my personal information (that he had already looked up) for the sole purpose of selling insurance to me as a benefit to State Farm. Jared then said, in a sneaky little voice "ohhhhh, but that's not what you said the first time! You said that Gary ran across the street and told you that he ran your credit report! Now you're giving me 2 different stories".
I told Jared, "I didn't say he ran my credit report the first time he came to me, I said he 'scanned' my name without authority". But, in March of 2011 State Farm reviewed my credit report and I wanted to know why. Jared then said to me "No, you said that Gary ran across the street and told you that he scanned your credit report, now you're telling me something else. And see, here I called Gary and told him what you said & now you're saying something else!". Jared certainly is not a good listener, as I never said this to him. It doesn't matter anyways, my privacy rights were still violated. I felt like I was arguing with a 10-year old child. Jared is clearly unprofessional. He also made me feel as if I were on trial and I told him this. Jared then said to me "let me ask you this, why did you ever come to my agency?"
As if he were suggesting that I was a problem client simply because I was not satisfied with the service I received from my first agent - of nearly 20 years. I responded "because I was not satisfied with the way my last agent handled my claim". Jared then said, "look, you are certainly free to take your business elsewhere". This is exactly what I will do. I have been a State Farm customer for about 23 years. State Farm has very poor customer service. I am now going to file a formal complaint with the Attorney General of Ohio due to my privacy rights being violated. I am now in the process of transferring my policies to Progressive Insurance, which has excellent customer service. I want nothing to do with this company due to their lack of concern, privacy violations, and unprofessionalism.

Under the present policy I have with State Farm, it states that they would cover the cost to tear out and replace any part of the building necessary to repair the system.
They refused to cover this even thou it is in my policy Section (FE-5368) under coverage part A of the policy. The policy states coverage for a plumbing leak and does not state (Sewer or Fresh water). They informed me that I would have to cover the expense for the repairs, nothing was done. In August 2008, Bryant Consultants was contacted by State Farm and they came out to re-inspect the water system and told State Farm that there were three leaks but in their report they also stated there were no leaks. Then they also stated there were three leaks, two under slab and one above slab. (Question) how can there be leaks in one part of this report and then state there was no water leaks?
They were copying the report from Baker Brothers and adding one more leak to their report. In September 2010, State Farm Insurance was contacted again and I asked just what was covered under my policy and they stated I must file another claim to answer that question. They sent yet another plumbing company out to recheck the plumbing again. They reported that there were three leaks, two below slab and one above slab. I receive a letter from State Farm Insurance stating that if I did not correct the leaks then I would be non renewal for my insurance coverage. Well State Farm Insurance has not kept up their part of the policy coverage under the section Slab Leaks. It still does not state (sewer or fresh water). I didn't want to place a claim with State Farm b/c I was afraid that my premiums will go up but then I was told that it would not up (my 1st claim). I called State Farm to have them to inspect my roof. I had one call from the adjuster Dorothy M. to tell me that we did not have any hail in my area during that time of the year. I told her it was wind damage. The appointment was set up for June 9th 2010 and no one was home at that time. The contractor for GA roofing agent agreed to meet State Farm contractor Mr. *******.
Later I received a check for $1113.00, money that according to State Farm adjuster Mrs. Dorothy M. will cover the damages. According to GA roofing staff, that amount of money will not be enough to cover the material neither the damages. I called Mrs. Dorothy M. several times requesting a second inspection to my roof. This time, I wanted to be present and be able to do the inspection inside out my home with the contractor. I was told, I am denied to get a second inspection. The damages were assessed by Mr. *******, the contractor for State Farm, are listed on the explanation of my claim/loss and that is all what State Farm is going to pay (without even inspecting the inside of my roof for any damages or mold. Mrs. Dorothy M. also stated that both of the contractors agreed that was the only damage in my house!
This message was left on my voice mail. I continuously called requesting to speak w/the adjuster and Mrs. Dorothy M. but I did not get a call back. "Totally Ignored". No one at State Farm was willing to give me information about the contractor Mr. ******* and I was told to get in touch with the same person who will not call back, in this case Mrs. Dorothy M. I called her office, her direct line, her cell phone and I was given another number to call but no return of my calls. In November, I decided to do my own homework and called a few contractor for estimates to fix the roof, at this time I had the opportunity to get on top of my roof and with the roofer I looked around visualize the actual damage of my roof as we inspected outside and inside of my home. "Mold had set up and the were visible damages in the interior of the house, I even felt the wet boards inside of the house. None of this damage was inspected by neither State Farm or GA roofing contractors.
Although, GA roofing personal ever denied agreeing with State Farm Adjuster Mr. *******. They also drop my claim, because they could not proceed with little money that would not even cover all the material needed, neither couldn't get in hold of Mrs. Dorothy M. to revise the claim.
I was not even granted money for a dumpster. State Farm proofs that they are not a company you can trust. I should not have to call over 20 times "with proof of calls" to just be ignored. I have no rights according to this adjuster, to request what I think was and is fair. I am not there for profit. I even requested that the adjuster from State Farm Mr. ******* can come up to my home and fix the roof with the money agreed should be granted to repair.
We, as a consumer, are penalized if we are late on our payments, but the we have to wait to get the Insurance company to decide whether they are going to cover or just deny your claim, worst then won't even listen what you have to say. Choose very wisely when it comes to Homeowners Ins. State Farm is a rip off and would not recommend to anyone.

On August 19th 2010, a huge hail storm came through our town of Washington, Michigan. Tremendous amounts of damage was done in the subdivisions. Broke tree limbs, damaged roofs, broken garage doors and lots of hail damage. Shortly thereafter, I noticed that there were a lot of homes in the subdivision that were getting their roofs reshingled.
My immediate neighbor was getting his roof inspected by a contractor and while he was on my neighbor's roof, he noticed that there was also hail damage to my roof. Mr Jason ** the inspector, suggested that I call my insurance agent and ask for a claims adjuster to come out to inspect the house. I personally went to my agent here in Washington, Michigan and informed him of what I found.
My agent got upset and asked who were these ambulance chasers. My agent then told me that he would send out his own contractor. Well, the first contractor, Jason, told me that this was not the proper way for insurance agencies to handle claims. State farm contractor named John ** came out and looked at my roof and told me that he would have to come back because he had to bring his 40 foot ladder to get up on my roof which is a colonial. He informed me to call this toll-free number to set up an appointment with the claims adjuster. He told me that the adjuster would not go up on the roof. He also told me when the adjuster called me to make an appointment for me to call him.
The appointment with the claims adjuster was made for November 5th 2010. The adjuster's name was Michael **. When I called the State Farm contractor, he told me that he would be out-of-town on that day and that he would send out someone to take his place. On the day of the inspection, the adjuster came out and another person that would replace John ** came.
The adjuster went up on the roof with a little ladder to inspect the roof. The other gentlemen stayed on the ground. The adjuster acknowledge that there was hail damage to the roof along with damage to the down spouts and copper topping. However, the adjuster told me that the roof damage was normal wear and tear. He approved a check for $1266.00 minus deductible.
I repeatedly called John ** and he never returned my calls. In my opinion, this is an attempt to cover up the claim and for me to suffer. The fact that all the houses in my subdivision were built from 1998 to 2004 and most are getting roofs replaced because of the storm and for my insurance company to tell me that it is normal wear and tear for a roof that is only nine years old is totally absurd. First off, my wife and I are in shock that the hail did not do more damage to our roof like the other homes. We worry about the integrity of our agent. With our cars insured by State Farm as well and my life insurance policy, we worry about what kind of service we really are getting. We were told by three contractors, including the adjuster, that there is hail damage and now we are left worrying about the condition of the roof.
We totally believe that there is a conspiracy going on with the agent/contractor/adjuster and that we are not being represented in the way that we should be.

After inquiring into getting some storm damage repaired, found out that my deductable had been raised to from $1000 to $2000 which I did not request and had no knowledge of. When I called the agency to find out why, I was advised that a letter had been sent out prior to my policy renewal date informing me that they increased my deductable $2000 and if I didn't want increase my deductable I was to call the agency.
I don't recall receiving any such letter. I was told they did this to help save their customers money. (Apparently I wasn't the only one they did this to). The increased amount to my premium payment with the $1000 deductable less than $50, but that would have been easier to manage than trying to come up with $2000. In my opinion, this is just another sleazy backdoor way for state farm to get out of paying for repairs against a policy that I have had for almost 10 yrs without a claim while adding to their bottom line.

I discovered my basement was flooded and contacted a plumber to come out. The plumber snaked the pipes and conducted a scope analysis. I contacted State Farm and spoke with Audra. Audra informed us the cost to replace any pipe would not be covered. Audra stated they would cover any damage ensued by the back-up. Audra opened a claim and contacted someone from Service Master to come out to our home and clean up the mess. Alex from the claim department contacted us and stated the damage would not be covered. At this time, Service Master had just arrived to our home and gave us an estimate of $3,000 to clean up the water damage. We had to turn them away because we do not have this kind of money. The claims department apologized for the misinformation we were given from our insurance agent. We called back and escalated the call to a Team Manager, Charlie. Charlie indicated that if the damage from the pipes was caused from the pressure of the roots, the damage would be covered. He stated that he was reading from the policy directly and it indicated the damage would not be covered if roots were present but that it would be covered if it was caused by the pressure from the roots. He stated that he would contact the plumber to determine the cause of the problem and someone would call us no later than Monday with an update.
October 17, we received a phone call from Alex in the claims department. However, she only called my work phone so I did not return her call until October 19. October 19, we received a phone call from an insurance adjustor. He wanted to schedule an appointment to come out and take pictures of the damage. I asked him if that meant the damages were going to be covered. He indicated he did not know but was told to come out and take pictures. We scheduled an appointment for October 20 at 5 pm. October 20, the insurance adjustor came out to take pictures and gave us a personal property form to fill out. He stated we needed to complete the form and send it to State Farm with pictures so they could assess the damage. Again, I asked him if this meant State Farm was covering the damage and he said he did not know. October 22, I contacted State Farm to check the status of the claim based on the conversation we had with Charlie on Friday. I spoke with Renee. She indicated she would need to research further and call me back. Renee called back and said the damage would not be covered. She stated they contacted the plumber and because the damage was caused by the pressure of the roots moving the pipes, they would not cover the damage. I advised Renee that when I talked to Charlie, he said it would be covered if it was caused by pressure. Renee indicated Charlie was incorrect and that State Farm would not cover the damage. Renee advised me that we could add extra coverage to our policy that would cover this exact damage.
October 25, I called the claims department and spoke with Cori. I asked Cori why they sent out an insurance adjustor if they had no intention of covering the damage inside our home. Cori advised us that when the insurance adjustor came out, State Farm thought they would be able to cover the damage. Cori transferred us to our insurance agent who advised us the damage would not be covered. We advised her that we would be switching to another insurance provider who would cover this type of damage. She indicated no such policy existed. When we told her that Renee informed us of the additional coverage we could add to our policy, she stated no such coverage existed.

Mr. Mark came out to my home to asses roof damage that had also caused damaged to the living room ceiling and possible mold in the upstairs attic from a tropical storm that happened on September 29, 2010 - October 2, 2010. Upon his arrival I notified him that my contractor didn't show for some odd reason. He then proceeded his way to the attic approximately about 5-6 minutes he later returned back downstairs where I was sitting showed me pictures stating to me that he didn't see any mold in to what my and husband was referring to. So he said, "Can you come up to the attic with me to show me what you and your husband are talking about" so I proceeded.
He had made it to the side of the attic where the roof had leaked and when I stepped to cross to get where he was telling him and pointing to him that he need to pull up the comforter that my husband had put down to prevent further damage I felt the attic floor start to crack so therefore I fell through the attic floor going through the sheet rock leaving a big hole in my boys room. He pulled me up and I told him that my stomach was really hurting and I felt like I was going to pass out up in the attic. So I made my way down the stairs by sliding down holding my stomach because I was in pain. Called my husband and he took me to the hospital. On my way to the hospital notified my insurance agent about the accident. The state insurance agent later told my husband that they weren't responsible for my hospital bills or any compensation for my injuries.
Upon my arrival to the hospital I passed out at the ER entrance waking up shortly after being stabilized my doctors and nurses. CT scan of my stomach showed internal bleeding possibly bruised liver/or tear to my intestines. I was hospitalized on October 14, 2010 discharged on October 15, 2010 still under doctor care and have to see a trauma doctor in a couple weeks. I felt as though when the adjuster showed me pictures and notified me that he didn't see any mold he should've used better judgment than asking me to come show him what my husband and I was talking about. That was his job, I'm not certified or licensed to know what mold look like. What would another prudent adjuster have done in this case?

We were recently a victim of fire started by an uninsured renter living in the house next door. We were lucky that our house was not damaged but our backyard and outbuildings were destroyed. With the new claim process that is, segregation of services, your relationship with your local dealer is really just that guy who takes your check and shakes your hand. The claim process was labor intensive but fast yet has been unable to ask or get questions answered since a check was cut. My biggest problem is after 20+ years of loyalty we received a letter stating that our policy may not be renewed.
Two weeks after that, we received a letter stating we would be receiving a random home inspection and that it would occur in the next two weeks. No appointment or phone call here! Did they really use the word random? This process prompted me to do a little research. If you've had a fire claim of any kind, you are not eligible for coverage from any of the other major carriers for a period of 5 years. If State Farm decides to terminate our coverage after 20+ years of no claims, we would be forced to carry insurance through our mortgage carrier. Yeah, we can afford that! Even though I want to change carriers I can't. Did I mention we're just victims here! We didn't start the fire, we didn't help it along and we just lived here.

I am still having ongoing serious legal problems due to false information and testimony by a state farm insurance claims investigator. My house burnt to the ground in Kansas City, Kansas on 29 May 2009.
I had an insurance policy by State Farm. After being injured in the fire and in the hospital, my dad made a claim on my policy 2 June 09, the insurance adjuster had contacted me (over the phone) about details of the claim under policy, 3 June 09. He told me I could accept payments under a "loss of use" clause for displacement. At that time, I expressed disapproval of the claim, the Insurance adjuster, Mike ** of Topeka Kansas, had deliberately without my knowledge, paid money on this falsely created claim. Once the claim was created by my father, State Farm used this as evidence against me for insurance fraud. A warrant was issued for my arrest and then the insurance company conspired to make these payments as evidence in a future trial.
On my last day in the hospital, 1 July 2009, I was paid a visit by the Kansas City, Kansas Fire Chief, Randall **. In my statement under oath, I maintained my innocence re- affirming the cause had been an accident. On 7 July 09, a warrant was issued for my arrest. I promptly bailed myself out, paying 10% of $25,000 bond on 16 July 09. The insurance company issued a check to my father on 17 July 09, by way of the falsely created claim of State Farm. I Hired an attorney, 4 Sept 09 of Barnett law firm located in Wyabdotte Co, Kansas City Kansas.
I was given a pre-trial date of 31 Dec 2009. At this hearing the state's two main witness's were Mr. H. (focusing on cause) and Mike **, representing state farm, who had intentionally withheld information that payments were made to a 3rd party person (my father) claiming I had in some way benefited from these payments. Under homeowner policy guidelines, it is required that 3rd party persons be present in hearings and at the hands of the Kansas State prosecutor, Casey ** had collaborated with the insurance company, marked my father as a witness in that preliminary and then denied his testimony at the last minute to force him out of the court.
At this hearing was the first time I was aware monies had been paid, and my father could have testified as to what exactly happened. The original evidence on my warrant, listed by Mr. H. regarding an investigation by State Farm, was later proven to be false. In light of this unethical behavior, per my agreement with my lawyer, I was required to pay additional fees (if necessary)for services rendered by experts to help my defense in cause which I did. I hired Curt **, of Belton MO, and after a $2000 retainer, he was under the opinion I should make a plea deal, which my lawyer supported in an effort to push this through to the court without my best interest or proper defense of this case.
The fact is that, not only did State Farm lie for malicious prosecution, fire chief Randall **, knowingly submitted false information on a warrant for my arrest and had given zero evidence to the judge connecting my person with intent to defraud by way of arson. The unwarranted legal proceedings and prosecution have been going on over a year now. After attempting to focus on the wrong doings of the insurance company whose testimony was discounted, I came to realize supposed evidence could only be disproven by exposing in more detail the true nature of original affirmations under oath.
I would like to point out in this biased warrant, Mike ** of Sate Farm, is listed as a witness yet the only testimony offered by this Insurance entity are samples by private investigators, none of which actually testify in the preliminary. To this day I still maintain my innocence and reserve special rights at the time and shortly after the fire, I have documented evidence from the beginning to now which shows an incomplete and un-thorough investigation. There is still no real evidence connecting me to the charge at this time or ever, and any evidence thereafter is inadmissible and a way to focus on inconclusive material that if anything supports my case.
When I showed up for the hearing on 12 July 10, the Judge granted the withdrawal from my first paid lawyer and gave me only one week to find a new one by 19 July 10, once again I turned myself in declaring indigence. Ironically my new and current lawyer was in the office on the same day and saw that I was arrested and I ended up going to jail for 12 days. Finally the state appointed lawyer had my bond re-instated 30 July 10. My next court date (trial) is set for 8 Nov 2010. I will be pleading not guilty to a jury and I will attempt no continuance.

In summer of 2010, after a major lightning storm, I stepped outside my home to find a large sink hole near the foundation of my home. Unfamiliar with what to do, I contacted my homeowner’s insurance company before doing any repairs to get their "opinion" before proceeding. A few days later, State Farm adjuster Jerry ** came to my home, inspected the hole, and deemed it water damage, which he stated was an "uncoverable" incident as I lacked flood insurance. I felt that was reasonable and proceeded to fill the hole, which I originally felt could have been caused by a lightning strike.
Approximately a month later, I received a letter from State Farm Underwriting stating that my foundation was in need of serious repair and that I had 60 days to correct the situation or "else". Knowing that State Farm was now on a quest to terminate my coverage in order to deem my property uninsurable, I decided to fight back. I called my local State Farm agent Sean **, who promised to get "right back" to me with some sort of resolve. Just to be safe, I also contacted another company to seek a quote which included an inspection and was found to be insurable after all. After contacting my mortgagee, I was told to switch companies and to drop State Farm before they could "terminate" me.
After waiting almost a week for a return call from State Farm which never occurred, I decided to make a decision regarding the situation myself. I immediately replaced my coverage with a reputable company and told Mr. Sean ** from State Farm where he could relocate my self-cancelled policy. The moral of this story is to not do business with State Farm Homeowners Insurance either in Maine or any other state for that matter. Had I not cancelled them, I would have been left uninsurable and standing on my own thanks to my "good neighbors" at State Farm. This is a true attested story. Please share with others.

We are disgusted with the way we were treated after so many years with State Farm Insurance in FL. They are crooks backed by politicians.

State Farm said that they were behind and would get to us. Then Wilma came through 22 days later and completely destroyed the entire pool enclosure ripping it to shrews.
State Farm said that though we have been insured completely with the home as well as Citizens Wind Storm Insurance, that it was a detached structure attached to structure and that they did not have to cover damages to replace it. At that time, we suffered approximately $19-$20,000 in damages. We finally got rid of State Farm last year due to the rumors of their attempts to pull out of FL running and cancelling policies but wanted to remain covering car policies in FL. My husband and I have been with state farm for over 30 years and when my daughter bought a house, we were stupid enough to recommend State Farm. They came on a vacation with us and when they got back to their home discovered that a pipe had leaked. They contacted their insurance State Farm who sent out their chosen company to clean up the mess. My daughter and son-in-law contacted another plumber as the one State Farm recommended turned faucets on and off couldn't find a problem and said they would have to wait.
Finally, the contractor my kids found came and discovered that there was a leaking pipe under the bathtub in their master bathroom. Their house is on a cement block. The claims adjustor arrived and took pictures and said that the pipe was underground. She managed to get soil in her photos, which of course she would because in order to get the pipe completely out they had to drill past the cement. The insurance won't pay and my daughter is left with a complete mess. It is a first time home which is one level and small.
Every carpet in all the rooms is ruined including the kitchen floor and kitchen cabinets. The State Farm adjustor has been leaving nasty messages with her contractor (calling him a liar) and they are refusing to pay even though they sent out the cleaning crew. If my daughter had known that, she could have chosen a less expensive company. The house is a disaster. It looks like a hurricane hit it. State Farm has been our insurance co. for over 25 yrs. Our claims have been minimal; however, recently we experienced some claims that were not our fault. We have been harassed by State Farm reps., told to be silent in a rude tone, and multiple intentional delays have caused much stress. We had a claim in 1/10. We hit a large, steel shelving unit after turning a corner and being sandwiched by other vehicles. This object likely fell off a truck collecting steel. Our vehicle sustained immediate damage and we thought it would explode because we dragged this unit underneath it before stopping with a flat tire. We drove our vehicle off the road, called the police and paid someone to put our spare tire on so that we could get home. It was after 10p.m. on a weeknight.
We filed a claim with State Farm after obtaining a partial estimate for outside/body damages. We were compensated; however, we emphatically proclaimed that it was the undercarriage that needed to be fully evaluated to ensure that no damage had occurred that would cause subsequent trouble for us. State Farm refused to provide an estimate for the undercarriage. We attempted to obtain an estimate for the mechanical work. We were told that the shops would have to obtain a diagnostic and we would be responsible for the cost of their time/upwards of 2-$300 or more. We complained multiple times (over 4) and insisted that we likely had much damage under our vehicle. Our complaints fell on deaf ears. I
n June, 2010, our car sustained complete brake failure while driving home with our family. I drove our car home (very dangerous) to extricate us from the immediate circumstances and nearly drove through my garage before placing the car in park. We had our car towed to an auto mechanic. The caliper was damaged/brakes also. $500 later, we contacted State Farm. Our rep. did reimburse us after 2 weeks. We were appreciative. We asked the mechanic to check the car for any other damages. He said the vehicle was okay, casually. 2-3 weeks later, our vehicle was towed back to the same shop. The mechanic said it was our alternator and possibly a fuel injector. We asked for some time to save and contacted State Farm to demand an estimate on our car. The mechanic said he couldn't evaluate the car without evaluating the engine. We finally got the rep. to agree to pay for the estimate.
Almost 2 months from the brake trouble, our car is still inoperable and the mechanic informed us via estimate that the engine was damaged. He said it wouldn't be worth it to repair the engine. There was no previous problem with our engine! We were shocked and forwarded the estimate to SF. We have spent $3,000 on a rental awaiting a response that has come back as negative with the exception of State Farm saying they will pay for a wheel bearing? They insist that the engine trouble isn't related. Guess what, the engine was just fine and so was the rest of the car before the accident. They failed to respond to our multiple efforts for an undercarriage estimate.
We have been driving in an unsafe vehicle that has sustained so much damage that our engine is damaged beyond repair. They insist that there is no connection, yet they refused to provide us with an estimate at the time of the accident. They refused to reimburse us for an estimate and the shops refused to do an estimate without payment.
We shouldn't have to pay for an estimate at the time of an accident. That is what our insurance is for. They've hustled our mechanic and made us believe that he said there was no connection. No kidding. The mechanic didn't even draw a correlation between the brakes and the accident. Mechanics don't want to answer to State Farm or any insurance company. They want to be compensated by us. State Farm interfered with our relationship we had with our mechanic and now refuse to reconsider the repairs.
The rep. is on vacation for two weeks. They offered us $200 for the repair and haven't even compensated the mechanic for the estimate yet. They offered us $120 for rental, we've paid $3,000 for a full size car. We have been threatened, criminalized and verbally abused. Delays continue and evaluation is subpar and insufficient for the levity of the claim. They paid approx. $1,000 for the outside to be repaired and offered us $200 for the undercarriage! The steel shelving unit was dragged under the car and caused an immediate flat tire and there was a loud explosion under the vehicle. They claim because they see no visible scraping or marking on the engine, it can't be from the accident.
Do you know how many people die from hemorrhages without visible marks days, weeks, months later after sustaining trauma? The car was never evaluated due to State Farm refusing to pay for the estimate and now we've lost our vehicle and $3,000 in rental expenditures, not to mention our mechanic that they now own due to coercion. We've lost $3,000 in rental expenditures. We were forced to replace our brakes due to brake failure for $500. They did reimburse us and finally agree to an estimate. They have not paid for the estimate and refuse to acknowledge the damage to the engine.
No previous damage was present prior to the accident and the car is only 6 yrs. old. We had a power train warranty for 5 yrs. and were never once told of a bad engine; we knew there was likely severe damage to our car but have been forced to drive it until it was inoperable because it was our only vehicle. We had every interest in repairing this car until we realized the degree of damage sustained. This steel shelving unit was lodged under our car. We lost our other car due to the same type of problem.
State Farm would compensate for the body work but failed to provide a thorough estimate. As a result, much damage was sustained underneath the car and while awaiting closure on the claim that was not our fault, the vehicle slowly deteriorated to the point of being inoperable. This is why we were adamant about having this car estimated. State Farm used to compensate the shops for undercarriage estimates. They don't anymore and we've paid a dear price because SF is rejecting this claim.
It's an ongoing nightmare dealing with rude and inefficient reps. that lack the skill and authority to manage claims and seek to deny everything before them. This company needs to be examined closely for their practices and deviant techniques designed to cause trouble for the insured. Our agent has caused much distress during this process as well. Like a good neighbor, you've got to be kidding me. Please investigate. We are contacting the D of I for help.

State Farm didn't attempt to protect itself or me, a longtime customer. It issued me a binder for homeowner's insurance, without running a Loss History Report (CLUE Report). State Farm contacted me after my settlement, to advise that my policy was in limbo. The previous owner had filed three claims for massive water damages, but State Farm couldn't bother to tell me prior to the purchase. By law, the policy had to remain in place, but when it expires, SF will likely terminate me. I will have to practically give my home away, if ever anyone would consider buying it. Several other companies have either rejected me for coverage, or will not offer water coverage.
I live in fear of yet another incident of water damage. As it turns out, my neighborhood is rife with incidents of indoor flooding. Some homeowners have endured more than one incident. The hits just keep on coming. I can't find an attorney to take my case. I suppose they know that SF has more money, and will prevail in court. Moreover, the selling realtor knew about the damages, but never said a word. Sadly, I have asthma, and mold could become a very serious health concern, but I'm screwed in Maryland. The problem is unresolved. I may have to sell my home at a substantial loss. I may have to abandon it, if State Farm will not do mold remediation. I may not be able to rent the home. I wouldn't want to hurt anyone else. My credit would be ruined. I may have to file bankruptcy, and can't purchase another home for at least 11 years. I will suffer persistent asthma and respiratory distress if I stay. I may not be able to afford a decent apartment in the future.

I am pretty sure she got a good kick back from him. If you are looking for an insurance agent, never listen to your real estate person. Go for google and find out all complaints about the agent and choose the one you find has least complaints.
I got a new house and car quote and I wanted to discuss specific quote lines. I called his office. A representative Cindy picked up. She right away refused to discuss the quotes with me. I wanted to know even after being with State Farm for 10 years and having virtually 0 claims why my premium increased. She said, "That's how it is and deal with it." I said that I wanted to talk to her superior which is the agent Trent ** here. I asked him the same question. He said some pace index has increased and that's why my quote has increased.
I know a fair bit about stocks and I am a Math Ph.D. so I am not an ignorant guy. I googled this index and didn't find such an index. I told him I know about stocks and don't know about such an index. The consumer price index actually reduced in recent months! He started laughing at me like I was an idiot. I think he was trying to bully me. I would reiterate again that I have been a customer for last 10 years! Good luck if you are new.
I told him with his attitude, I don't want to stay with him and want to transfer to another agent. I called Mindy ** and Neil **'s offices to see if I could transfer to them. Trent called these guys and refused to let me transfer to them. Eventually I had to find a bigger agent than him to get a transfer. I can't believe this thing is happening to a customer who has stayed with State Farm for last 10 years.
I am going to switch to Liberty Mutual or Allstate in a month or so. I want to shop around before I do so. That's why momentarily, I am staying with State Farm. But it seems in the last 10 years, this company and its agent do not care about customers anymore. I have been with them for last 10 years so I know.
I strongly advise anyone seeking insurance from State Farm. If you decide on State Farm for some reason, then please avoid Trent **. Once you are stuck with him, he will make it impossible for you to switch to another agent in the area if you are not satisfied with his service. You can switch to another agency, but then you'll lose out the discounts that you get for staying with an insurance agency. The best bet is to start with an agency other than State Farm to start with, so that you don't have to regret your decision.

We have been with State Farm Ins for over 20 years. Homeowners, cars, trucks, boats, trailers if they could insure it that's who we called. They have had all their premiums, we have never tried to abuse our insurance. After hail damage twice to our home, the roof, fence, and window having to be fixed, they cancelled our home policy. Like we are God and can prevent the hail. 6 auto policies out of 3 wrecks, 1 of the person driving our truck was not given a ticket bad weather, then other 2 with our trucks was not our fault, we were hit by uninsured motorist. They are canceling those truck and restrictions on who can drive our other autos.
We pay uninsured motor insurance and yet we get cancelled because someone else does not carry insurance. Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there! I don't need those kind of neighbors. After being a faithful customer for over 20 years and they kick you out like some people would a dirty dog, for things you have no control over. If they want to do something, why don't they contact the law when people drop their auto insurance and if they can not show new proof of insurance pull their auto tags and driver's license.
We will be changing all our policies, but where can we go and who can we trust anymore? We are both over 60. My husband just had a heart attack after this last wreck. The stress is doing neither one of us any good. We know our coverage will be sky high after State Farm has dropped us. We have spent all these years building our reputation with State Farm and that's the way they do you. It makes you want to give up and say why should we try to do right?

I have been with State Farm insurance for about 30 years and always have paid my premium on time. This insurance included car, home owner's RV vehicles, and travel trailers. I have a mining claim 45 miles from my home. I ask several times if anything was stolen from the claim would my home owners insurance cover it. I was assured several times that there was only a $500.00 deductible but everything else would be covered, just keeping paying your premiums.
In January of this year, I went down to begin the spring clean-up work. I found that my cabin had been broken into and about $8,000.00 worth of mining equipment was stolen. I told my local insurance what had happen. They asked me if I had ever sold any of the gold. This mine is just a hobby for our family and I have no intention of selling any gold. However, I did trade some gold for tractor work one time. Their reply was because I did receive goods for gold that now it was a commercial gold mine and of course, my homeowner's policy would only pay out $250.00.
I felt that I was deceived from the very beginning. I have not yet filed a complete police report of all that was missing because they said they would not pay. My son-in-law is the policeman that took the report and he can add the items which were stolen at any time if it would do any good. How can I get a fair deal on 30 years of loyal service? Thanks for any help.

On June 4, I called the State Farm Office to renew my homeowners insurance and was told that they cannot renew my homeowners insurance because I had two claims in the last 3 years. One was a home robbery and the latest one was a bogus lawsuit of a property owner across my back yard, who took advantage of a snow storm that brought down some branches of a pine tree in my yard. This snow storm happened on February 10th and on the 26th. Some branches have fallen on a wooden shack of his and I was taken to small claims court on May 17th. I had supporting pictures with the dates (March 3rd) that all the braches have been removed from his shack and there was no damage.
I was sued for $2,000 but only lost $1,020 (so the insurance told me). I did not get any documentation yet. The case was handled by a lawyer from State Farm who did not do the best job and I probably would have been better defending myself. A week after the case of May 17, I found out that the estimate that the plaintiff took to court was from my next door neighbor. The estimate was for a brand new shack and he was not aware that it had to do with me.
Unfortunately, the lawyer said we should go with the arbitrator rather than the judge because our case looked favorable for us. Now since we went with an arbitrator instead of a judge even after we find out the truth about the inflated estimate, we cannot appeal and now have lost our homeowners insurance because of a snow storm! I lost my homeowners insurance and small claims court case because of neglect of the insurance company. I thought that’s why one has insurance in case something happens.

Betrayal from State Farm Insurance, do not get State Farm Insurance. I have been a customer of State Farm Insurance since 1998. I have (had) my homeowner's policy and over the years, several vehicles insured with them. Recently, I received in the regular mail a notice of cancellation of my homeowner's policy. Why? Because I have had three claims submitted. Two claims were submitted in 2008. One claim was for hail damage to my roof. This claim was denied and $0 was paid. The other claim was for a water leak from my refrigerator water line breaking. This claim was denied and $0 was paid.
In March of this year, my car, along with several others in my neighborhood was burglarized and my laptop computer was stolen. On May 19th, I received a letter stating "the insurance coverage is not acceptable to State Farm Fire and Casualty Company due to your loss history. " Not the number of claims submitted, but my loss history. The total amount of my loss history is a total of $528.20. When I called the local company, I was told that it was because of the number of claims submitted, not the amount of claims. I was never informed that a submission of any number of claims in a certain year would result in the cancellation of my insurance. In addition, when I submitted the final claim for theft, I was not informed when I went into the office. I am outraged.
I have paid thousands of dollars over the course of 12 years to this company and I was simply tossed aside. When I called my local office, I was just told that three claims and you are out. I am a 56-year-old grandmother trying to hang on to my house and make house payments by myself and I'm barely hanging on. This policy is outrageous and completely devoid of any semblance of customer services or consideration. My experience with State Farm has never been good, but this is simply unforgivable. After finally speaking with the local agent, he informed me that this was simply the policy. I am not just a number and refuse to be treated like one. I am telling my story to stop someone else from being treated so badly.

Well to start, when hurricane Ike came through my one year old roofing (as did many others who suffered through the storm), it began to leak. I paid my homeowners insurance each month with my mortgage so I figured I would be able to file a claim with my insurance carrier (State Farm) and have the roof repaired, not redone but repaired. Well, everything else was paid for the leaking windows/paint, carpet cleaning, spoiled food, etc. My State Farm insurance adjuster went up on the roof with my contractor and came down and told me, "Your roof was put on incorrectly by the builder! You need to get them to come out and repair the roof." My contractor, to my surprise, agreed. Well, keep in mind the house was only one year old when Ike came through.
Here it is May 2010 and my house is now three years old. And I have a bad roof that still leaks and 27 more years to pay for it. And I am forced to pay State Farm Insurance as well each month! The anchor of the house cannot be repaired because the builder put it on incorrectly! Amazing! I have recently called out a different roofer and he agrees! The flashing which is supposed to form a seal to prevent the water from coming in is an inch too short! And he agrees that it was the builders fault. Both the contractor and roofer also agreed the attic is not vented correctly which may be the cause of my shingles "rippling" when it gets hot. When I called Meritage after the initial inspection, they said It is not our fault! The roof passed inspection!
Two years later, I still have leaks in a three-year old house! Why? Because State Farm feels as though they have sent two adjusters out (one, being an elevated roof inspection team that I never saw because they came when I was not home). They refused to send out another inspector and want me to pay for an engineer or impartial inspector to come out and do another inspection to re-submit the claim for review. I have a three-year old house with roof leaks that no one will repair when I pay insurance and it was not leaking prior to a hurricane! Amazing! And the $8400 they kept for the deductible could have more than paid for said roof!
Also last summer, I had field mice coming into my house. Guess how! I have a fireplace in my bedroom that sits on a piece of the cement foundation which is located in the backyard which has a field behind it. Well, whoever installed the fireplace did not nail the hardi-plank onto the back of the unit. There also were holes in the cement base and the mice were climbing into these holes through the unit and out through the vents in the front of the fireplace and into the house! I (a single female) had to get down on my back and find the holes and fill them in with cement myself after speaking to Meritage about the problem. They came out and the foreman fixed the problem by installing a flash (piece of metal on the top of the unit which apparently had been left off as well) assuring everything was now repaired. Well, he had not fixed the problem! It was not until I was awaken in the middle of the night shortly thereafter by yet another field mouse and took matter into my own hands that I was able to fix the problem myself by cementing the holes myself. Temptation to walk away has never been so great!
I pay a pretty penny for this 4000 sq foot home and I could not be more unhappy! I moved out of a 1600 sq foot home built by Beazer and I never had any of these types of problems. This house has been a complete nightmare and I would never recommend Meritage to my worst enemy!

Well! We had major flash flooding on May 1 and 2, 2010. I called on the first day and put in a claim, because we suffered some damage to our fencing. They never gave me a claim number that evening. The next morning, we got hit again; but this time, 4 feet of water both front and back and flowing at a rate that carried a policeman's patrol car and left him hanging on a tree for over an hour! Water filled our garage, destroying all our appliances.
I called again that day and was told someone would call within 48 hours. This was Sunday. On Wednesday, my father had died and we had to leave to take care of arrangements. I called, begging to talk to someone, and finally got an adjuster on the phone who could care less about what I was going through. He kept stating the government would not pay this or that and basically stated that "FEMA controls how much you will be helped, even with insurance"!
The adjuster showed up on the 16th and stated it would be at least 14 more days? What? The railroad is right behind us, and neither the feds or city had ever cleaned out the storm drain holes under the track. Our fencing is not covered. We have 15k at least in damage outside the house that the "government" does not pay according to State Farm!

We submitted a claim on 05-25-05 for a broken water pipe which caused basement damage. They denied the claim, because the pipe that broke and caused the damage was located outside and they said it wasn't covered. They stated the reason for cancellation is because we have had claim activity. What's insurance for if you can't submit a claim when needed?
We are excellent customers and have never been late on a payment in the 17 years that we've been a customer. Do we have any recourse or do we just have to accept this unfair behavior on their part? An agent also called my husband a couple months ago and said they were raising our deductible from $500 to $1,900 because they had to pay our claim. A short time later, we received a letter saying they were cancelling us.

Well, here it is April 9, 2010 and the claim still hasn't been settled.
I have been paying State Farm Insurance Company for ten years and when I really needed them they denied my claim. In today's time, we just can not trust the insurance companies because they are not in the customers best Interest, they are in it for the money and will find any reason to deny a claim, so be aware. Thank God, no-one died because I couldn't of imagined how this would of turned out for my family. My Children took this hard and they still can't understand why we don't have a home and living in hotels. As consumers, we need to re-evaluate who we are giving our money to to help us in need!
This situation has been devastating to my family financially and mentally because it took state farm six months to clean up the debris from the burnt mess. This has also caused my husband to go into deep depression. Me and my husband have 9 children and we all live in a hotel can you imagine what we are going through. I truly believe State Farm insuarance company was biased and acted in bad faith. We had to hire a lawyer to go against the insurance company because we got nowhere dealing with State Farm Directly.
It is a shame because now 40% of the proceeds will go towards the lawyer if I win and why should consumers have to go through this. What is the reason for insuarnce if something happens and the claim is denied? Be aware because they will find any reason to deny you for the settelment that you are entitled to. This is a growing concern in the insuarance industry today.

I understand that the NC Insurance commissioner approved such an exorbitant increase but State Farm is unjust, inconsiderate of those of us with fixed incomes, and unconscionable in light of the current fiscal status of the national and state economies. Even Federal Retirees have had to suffer no cost of living this year and further casts a dark and ominous shadow of credibility on State Farms action.
This increase will cause a reduction in the quality of life we have become used to in the fair state of NC and causes us to think of State Farm as a money grabbing inconsiderate company not worth doing business with. This increase reduces our spending ability and hence our quality of life by a significant amount. We are most dissatisfied with State Farms Policy of raising rates without changing the qualifty or quantity of service it provides.

She was allowed to spend the night on that Sunday night because she went to school with her friend and they would be going to school on Monday together. There is an ongoing investigation into what exactly happened to cause the fire, however, it has been ruled that it was not faulty wiring, gas leak, etc. In fact, many suspicions are starting to surround what went wrong. The mother was able to get out as well as two of the other children. It is speculated that my girlfriend's daughter turned to try to get the other child in the house.
State Farm insurance has only told my girlfriend that because the actual home owner was not at the house (His daughter was the one living there) that they do not pay out for bodily injury/loss of life. Am I the only one who sees this as ridiculous? So if a friend of mine is visiting me at my girlfriend's house and the roof falls in and they are hurt, if my girlfriend is not at the house, her homeowner's insurance will not take care of them? At this time, I informed them that I, too, had damage. They said that they were informed by their adjuster that I may need to file against my own policy. This made no sense to me so I contacted my agent's office and was told that there is no reason I should be subject to a $500 deductible and rates increase. The day I had taken off from work is considered part of the loss and should also be covered.
But, when it was discovered that both my neighbor and I are insured by State Farm, everything changed. Ultimately, they ended up sending me a check which was drawn against my policy (short the deductible and time off work). In September of 2005, we had a house fire that took the house and everything in it! As we've all heard before - “don't worry, we’re here to help you” - yeah right! One of the first words out of the adjuster’s mouth was “Do you have your policy and pictures and receipts of everything in the house?” Umm, let’s see the house is still setting there smoldering, nothing salvageable at all. I should have gone and picked up a handful of ashes and said here you go! But anyhow later here comes the adjuster back with this check for $50,000.00 less than what we had the house insured for! We asked the adjuster what’s this for? “Well your house,” he replied. But we said, “We had more coverage than that on it.” And he said, “We’ll just send this off to your mortgage company and we'll be seeing you!”
Like dummies we sent this check that was way short of what we thought we had the house insured for. Then they kept coming back; "You still owe us this extra money,” which we kept telling the State Farm adjuster, and honestly, when I would call him on my cellphone because we had no home phone, no more! He yelled at me so loud the wife could hear him across the motel room where we were staying at the time! And all he'd come back with is, “What more do you want?” I told him I want what we had the house insured for. Then he later showed us a policy from several years earlier. I said, “What’s this?” He said, “It’s your policy.” “Yeah,” I told him, “but not our current one!” “Oh yeah,” he said. I and the wife both said, “I don't think so!”
Anyhow, the damage had been done. We sent the check off; he did give us to the mortgage company and never did get any more from the insurance company. We had replacement cost figured in and we got a new modular home moved in but we still had this negative $50,000.00 we had to put on our new house and old house mortgage! Our payments were like $760.00 on our old house and the new house was $1,432.00. Needless to say, we couldn't afford that so our home was foreclosed on this past May! We tried to keep it till we could get someone to help us, but time ran out. We ran our credit cards up to the max and we still ended up losing our 2nd house. One to a fire; the other to the mortgage company, thanks to State Farm!
I had been with State Farm since I got my first car! We always had both our cars and house insured by them only to be screwed by them when we needed them most! I'm not with State Farm with anything anymore and I will never ever go back to them! They are the biggest ripoffs there are. I thought you were supposed to trust your agent and company but they’re looking out just for themselves! Here’s a bit of info for anyone reading this. We talked to a former insurance adjuster and he said the adjuster gets a percentage of what he can save the insurance company, or in other words, screw the policyholder out of! We now live in a 100-year-old house that we only got because we had to beg borrow and darn near steal, because our credit is so bad after this whole house fire and State Farm thing! We had our house foreclosed on ran ourselves head over heels in debt and now live in an old house.

My home, which is a cape brick and side panel home, began to have some grayish-looking film on the walls. On March 26, 2009, I called my Insurance Company, which is State Farm Insurance, to report the claim. I was told by customer service that based on the information that I was providing, there was minimal damage and it would more than likely cost less than $1000.00 to paint. I was told however that they would keep the information on file and that if I decided to paint and that would exceed my $1000.00, to call State Farm back. Keep in mind that I live in NY and the last oil drop I had from my heating oil company was late March or sometime in April 2009.
I had then had another previous issue, and the insurance representative Mr. Stephen that came to my home insisted that I file a formal claim because it appeared that I had a soot problem. The claim was assigned to someone else, but Mr. Stephen put the claims as one so he was handling everything. Mr. Stephen decided without any testing that I had soot, and it was deemed by Mr. Stephen that I in fact add a puff back. Although Mr. Stephen from State Farm was fully aware that there had been no boiler running. My hot water is run by gas through the water heater. Everything was destroyed. There were clothes, food, all of my cosmetics, not to mention, the stress of washing things. I was never fully advised what I was entitled to, so for such things I did not claim immediately, as if I was told I would have claimed it at the time.
So now, State Farm sends a cleaning crew of their choice to clean my home, and they allowed an allowance to paint my home. This was now Aug. 11, 2009 and I had to delay the paint job that was scheduled for Aug. 11 due to my mother being hospitalized. I would get calls from the adjuster wanting to know when they were going to paint. From 8/11/09 to 8/25/09 after State Farm sent their cleaning crew, this grayish film began to come back again, but this time stronger. The weird thing is that this grayish film was silent. I then woke up with darkish gray film in my nose. I panicked and called State Farm, and the rep said, "Well, we already cleaned up your house and gave you an allowance to paint. You need to give me a good reason to convince my boss why we should come again." (This is a whole other story). I was in a complete panic. I then sought some kind of explanation because State Farm kept saying this puff back was reoccurring. I was dumbfounded because I had no efficiency running: boiler, gas, nothing.
I called the fire dept. and I was advised to vacate. The fire dept. had done a thorough investigation themselves - the boiler, chimney, etc. - and because I and my child suffer from very serious medical conditions. It was best for us to leave. The next day, I called State Farm and advised them of the new reoccurring alleged "soot". I was told by State Farm that what they would now need to do is determine if this was a new claim or a continuation of the March 26 claim. Either way, I was told not to be concerned because soot is covered. So, from 8/26/09 through 9/2/09, State Farm employs an engineer that came to my home to establish this problem. This engineer that did only minimal visual examination had made up his mind that this was a "combustion of an efficiency." I was again at a loss because I had no boiler running. The heating company also confirmed that soot is like black dust. It is a smoke that comes from burnt oil and this was not soot. The basement and the boiler were clean. State Farm then hired a hygienist that was hired solely to determine if this carbon "soot" would be harmful.
Here we go now - one month in the hotel and my daughter going through hell being up three hours earlier for school. I sometimes have bad days due to my medical condition, so I requested transportation for her. All of my child's medication and everything were damaged. State Farm was processing everything, and everything was going smoothly. Remember, they allegedly did not have a problem with this claim; they were just trying to determine if this was a new loss or a continuation of the March 26, 2009 loss. I feel that it was only until I reported the adjuster for inappropriate statements and behavior, which was on 9/17/09, that I received on 9/21/09 a "reservation of rights letter". I had to write to the President of State Farm to have this adjuster removed from my file because Mr. ** told me originally that he would not and could not change adjusters although I clearly expressed my concerns to Mr. ** regarding how I felt - very uncomfortable with the adjuster.
Time went on, and I now had to change hotels because at one hotel which was the second hotel that I had to find on my own and go through red tape, my child was being solicited for sex. The second hotel, my items were missing. Here I am now requesting continuation and explanation for the processing of my additional living expenses that were being processed even after the reservation of rights letter because I was told they would pay for the cleaning of my clothes, at the very least and my mileage, and so on. There is so much more to this claim that I would have to write a book. Back and fourth with doctors, being worried about my health. Now, the new adjuster decides that she will not process my mileage or anything beyond 9/27/09. Their professional hygienist now states there is mold spores and silica in the home, but it was not harmful enough. I asked what is harmful enough, and I never got an explanation. I kept very consistent in requesting the scope notes and the preliminary report from the engineer who came out on 9/2/09 and was continuously told "you will get the report." The confusion and what transpired in between the time would literally take me hours to write.
Now I get reassurance from the head manager that all will be taken care of. I then get a letter in the mail dated 10/20/09 from the manager of the Melville claims office indicating that they now have all of the reports in their possession effective 10/16/09 and they (State Farm) is in the process of reviewing the claim for coverage. I then on 10/29/09 get a denial dated 10/27 indicating that after review of the file and the report from their engineer Paul **, my issue is soot from a pre-existing owner that has been bleeding through the walls and reoccurs and that the boiler is faulty. The oil company clearly contradicts this statement. In addition, their engineer states that I have had candle burning which may cause this soot. I responded to the engineer in writing, advising him that the exhibit he used to demonstrate a candle in his report was a "battery-operated candle." I also asked for an explanation and never received a response. In addition, there was no material; meaning, the wall with this film that does not wipe off - it has to be scrubbed off with an abrasive. It was never tested, and no wall was taken apart. There was never a suggestion to sample even a tiny piece of the wall that has this grayish film.I then went and hired an environmental specialist who did air quality tests and found mold in the air. It made no difference.
There were suggestions made to State Farm requesting additional testing in order not to subject me and my child to this "unknown" problem. I have had so many people come out and they were dumbfounded. No one could pinpoint this issue; however, it is evident even with a professional cleaning crew that does clean up after soot that this was not soot. In their denial, State Farm now denied coverage and I am subjected with all of these out-of-pocket expenses, replacement of medication for my child... It goes on and on.
State Farm now stopped payment for the hotel, and we are now subjected to go to the streets. I feel they are attempting to force me and my child to go back to my home with this unknown issue, which could be mold infestation. I did not even speak about the symptoms we were experiencing while at the home, and now, the symptoms are all gone since we left the house. And State Farm has no conscience whom they hurt. I have contacted the Insurance Department from inception, and to date, I have not received a response as to the investigation. I have only received confirmation of the complaints.

A leak had sprung behind our washing machine. My husband couldn't fix it, so the water flow wasn't stopped until plumbers came the next day. State Farm was immediately called, and we were told to get a few estimates on the damages. We did and faxed them within three days. I got a call once from Stella **. I tried to call her back a few times but I always went to her voicemail, which stated she would be out of the office after 4:10 pm. The next time I called her was on a Friday, but her voicemail said she'd be out of town until Tuesday. After three weeks, a claims adjuster finally called and came down. Stella had initially said that some company could come down and blow-dry the hole that was created by the water in the wall, but nobody ever came down for that and State Farm never did a follow up. I'm still waiting to find out what State Farm is going to do by way of compensation for this mess.

My 11 year old house that never leaked before is now leaking inside and out. Same story as most of the complaints I read on your site. State Farm is refusing to pay for roof or inside damage, claiming the shingles were installed wrong, etc. I couldn't believe this. It is like I was reading my own story. Why can't someone take on this big fraud company? Why do honest people get the shaft and these fat cats keep selling their no good policies and dining with the rich and famous? This house was to be our retirement home. Mold and mildew will form in insulation, which can damage our health. We couldn't sell this home due to damage. Our lost premiums and what for? A company who gets away with fraud? My husband and I both are near a nervous breakdown as our dreams disappear!

The company that gave the estimate on the roof stated that it was damaged from storm and sun. We have holes in the rubber. This roof has never leaked before now. On the other side of the house we had a leak 2 years ago and it was fixed, but this whole side of the house, never any problems until now. They are refusing to fix it. If this is not fixed, our walls and ceilings will be ruined and mold will start to grow. We have some mold now in one of the rooms.

They fully know that I am with State Farm and they will cancel my home insurance with Dave's office. 5 months later, I found out that Dave's office charged into my escrow for $1290. I contacted his office and spoke with Rhonda. She then told me that my policy were never cancelled and that my home basically has 2 insurances from both agencies for the last 5 months. I tried calling both offices, but they're both pushing blame on each other. I can't get a hold of neither Dave or Mike. I can only reach to their staff members, and not only that, they are rude. We have had hail damage in our area for over a year. I have had a State Farm investigator come out and tell me it was just wear and tear. I asked for another investigator from State Farm and was told the roof was improperly installed. Three roofing companies have told me that there was significant hail damage. This was over a year's span. The roofers had nothing in common with one another. Also, everyone around us have had their roofs replaced due to hail damage. The insurance companies who honored the repairs are Nationwide, Allstate and Liberty Mutual. Our neighbor across the street had State Farm and they were denied their roof. I have a friend who lives in a different neighborhood and she too has State Farm. She was denied. We have significant holes in our shingles from the hail damage. Run, do not walk from State Farm. They are not trustworthy and they do not stand behind you. What would happen if something serious, such as fire and you lost everything? You would not be protected.

This would have cost me an additional $400.00, but I've already changed insurers. Save yourself some cash and the hassle of potentially significant escrow/mortgage payment changes. Pay close attention to your renewal notice and switch to another insurer now if you can!

Deonia's solution is to resend these items out for cleaning again. How many times do we clean items before saying they are not any good? We have given her numerous repair estimates and still waiting for answers. We are going on 8 months now from the fire and still dealing with contents and repairs. Deonia has done everything to slow this process. We are only asking for what we owned pre-fire and not asking for anything more. We called the chairman's office at State Farm and also talked with Deonia's boss, John **. Unfortunately, we are still in this situation. It does not make sense.

My house burnt to the ground in January 17, 2008. I lost everything and at first, State Farm Told me that everything would be okay for me and my large family of 11, but here came October 8, 2009 and at this time I'm homeless with 9 children. My claim was denied from the beginning and I didn't find out until December 28, 2008 when State Farm sent me a letter denying my claim for whatever reason.
I've had State Farm Insurance for 10 years and had only two claims and I'm deeply saddened by my situation and I know there are others out there and I hope they don't go through what I've experienced. There has to be some justice for the pain and suffering caused by unpaid insurance claims. I'm taking State Farm to court but just think, why should you have to go through that when you paid your premiums all those years? State Farm has lost 11 customers.
We went to another Insurer and our premium is lesser but with more to offer. I should have switched years ago.

I had my roof checked by two roofing companies because our home is 16 years old and I wanted to find out the condition of my roof. We had a storm in May and the roof leaked. I had State Farm out and they denied a roof problem. In other words, they would not cover the roof. In June, we again had a storm in which hail of golf ball size came down and the roof leaked in more places - in fact my husband had a bucket under one of the leaks. I called State Farm Insurance and they said if they came out again, the claim would be closed. So, I called headquarters to see what could be done.
My roof continued to leak - finally, I had the roof replaced because I didn't want damage. State Farm gave me a credit of less than my deductible to fix the walls and ceilings in the areas that leaked. My neighbors across the street, in fact three, had roofs replaced by their insurance companies. They did not have leaks but some of the roof had blown off. The roofing company that replaced my roof said that I didn't need a roof. He said the people across the street didn't have the high quality roof I had.
My question is, if I don't need a roof when the roof is leaking in several areas that are unrelated to each other, then why is it leaking? State Farm says, "Well, you have to maintain your roof." Okay, I did have the roof checked by Allen Roofing and Richardson Roofing and both roofers said the roof did not need to be replaced. State Farm has run me around and around about the roof and so far it's my problem. I have had State Farm Insurance for over 44 years and have had very few claims - I guess that's why I thought they were a good choice.
I would never use them again. We are going to be busy for the next month and then I plan to review insurance companies at that time and make a change. The thing I did wrong was not getting more roofers to look at the roof but if I didn't fix the roof, I'm sure State Farm would say it was my problem for letting the roof continue leaking and they still wouldn't pay for the roof or the inside of the house. So now, they will pay for the inside but according to them, it isn't only against my deductible. I'm still campaigning because it is all in the adjuster's hands and to hell with the customer. Like I said, across the street, State Farm paid for the roof because they could see the shingles and some damage, and they had a different adjuster.

Hail and wind damage in our area. I have had three contractors inspect my roof. All have told me that I have damage in one degree or another. The amount of damage warrants from their point of view of a new roof. Added to the fact that we were in the epic center of the storm and that every home around my house has a new re-roof. Plus, I have now heard that there was a class action suit against State Farm for not handling claims in a fair manner only brings one conclusion to us. That is that we are being treated unfairly and the evidence needs to be revised or I will file a lawsuit against them myself for the damages to my roof and applicable time to have this done.

We have been covered by State Farm since 1992 on all of our insurance needs, cars, homes, etc. After our roof was damaged by hail, they sent out an estimator who did not even look in the attic. There are water leaks on the living room ceiling and water damage to the lower level. He appeared real biased from the get-go and said that he can see the hole in the tiles, but it’s not deep enough to cause leaks. I will be getting an independent contractor estimate and take pictures of all the damage in and out. The lawyer said that we need all the evidence to sue not only for the roof, but also to the internal damages to the ceiling, structure and all.
They have paid for the house across the street claim and it just looks like they want to use any available reason to deny or reduce the payment. It will cost them a whole of a lot more after they are ordered by the court to pay for all damages and legal fees and punitive awards. State Farm in particular appears to hire unqualified or dishonest adjusters accusing honest homeowners of making false claim when the physical evidence is supporting the case. After all the years that we paid for insurance, it is very troubling that those who are supposed to be there for us when needed are not.

My husband and I have had State Farm Insurance since we bought our home (new home) in Georgia in October 1997. We are senior citizens, 71 years of age. We always paid our premiums for 12 years and had no claims. Last year a hail storm damaged all of the 100 some homes when it went on a destruction path through our subdivision. I had to fight and complain, my roof was leaking, went through 3 adjusters before I got the roof approved. They said it was 1/4 damage. Who ever heard of putting on 1/4 of a roof? Gutters damages, awnings, window glass cracked, etc… Finally, we get our roof in July '09. We fought with the State Farm since Feb. '09 about the damage.
Now yesterday we get a letter from State Farm. They are cancelling our Homeowners (October 31, 2009) because we had this 1 claim of $8,000 some dollars for the roof. What a rip off...they want your money but they don't want to pay claims. Look at the premiums I have paid for 12 years; it well exceeds the price it cost them for the roof. In November 2008, my house burned. It was a total loss as well as the contents. I thought at first that State Farm was working for the good of my family who lived with me. This consisted of my husband, my daughter, granddaughter, and 2 grandsons. The children were in school, and we were relocated to a motel 30 miles from the schools.
I appreciated what was being done and not complaining, I drove over 60 miles a day for 30 days making sure they do not miss school. I worked with temporary accommodations, not demanding or insisting on more than I felt was fair but was glad for any help given. When it came to finding a place to live and get back in a residence, out of the motel, I went out of my way not complaining when I was rented an apartment, which had steps hard for me to walk up due to 6 surgeries on my legs in the past. I didn't hold out for a better, closer place to where I had lived or no steps. I accepted furniture which was nothing like what had been in the house when it burned, but I thanked them and took what was given. Although I questioned the $600 per month paid in rent for the furniture, why not replace the things lost in the fire and save the rent?
It's hard to believe they are reported to have prospered with 46 billion dollars in the past year doing business this way. Yet, when it came to paying the claims they owe, they argue with people who trusted them. They are the last people I would recommend to anyone, even to an enemy. After not giving in to their "problem solving ways" and cheating people the way they do, I hired an attorney. I was told "you did the wrong thing" and they could and would make demands, and I had to respect them or else. I took this as a threat and was told everyone with a claim received this letter. When I didn't accept the check, which is $40,000 below the lowest appraisal, I was told the claim was put in the "inactive" file and I should accept the check or do without. The next day, I was informed they would no longer pay rent or furniture. I could accept the check, or they would no longer work with me. This was taken as another threat.
The next morning, a truck pulled up to the door and loaded the furniture. They also went through personal things and said they were making sure we didn't keep anything belonging to them. They left a mess to be cleaned up by us, and while there, they were rude and insulting. When told the things gone through were ours and not theirs, they said they were "making sure". This happened before the grandchildren went to school, so they were a witness to the behavior of people they thought could be trusted. That night, we slept on the floor and ate from paper and plastic. We didn't have blankets or pillows, since they also took our pillows with their things. I called the owner of the company, where the furniture was rented. He told me they would send back what was taken from us. But this will not make up for the threats and feelings of insecurity we have experienced.
Thinking we were protected and paying for the security of not having to worry if bad things happen to me or my family has been destroyed. The trust they promised, then destroyed, cannot be replaced by any amount of money. It's hard to believe these are people we are dealing with and hard to believe they have families. Maybe they think they are exempt from bad things, but then, so did I till it happened. Would they want to be treated or have their children face the uncertainty my family have? As bad as it's been, I wouldn't wish this on anyone. Of course, I call myself a "good neighbor." Maybe, they just don't understand the meaning.

Where to start... In October 2005, I hit a deer. There were no problems with this claim. I had another claim in March or April of 2006 when I had damage from a tornado to my car. The car should have been totaled, but State Farm wanted to fix it. Since it was only body damage I didn't have a problem with this, so this claim was okay as well.
In February of 2007, we had extensive damage to our pickup. It hit a concrete embankment head on during an ice storm. The engine compartment was pushed into the cab, the front wheels snapped and were under the front end of the truck, and the frame was bent. I was told by various mechanics that once a frame is bent, the safety of the vehicle is compromised and that the vehicle never drives the same again. State Farm wanted to fix it anyway! I had to fight them for over a month about just totaling out the truck. Finally after the runaround, they totaled the truck and we got our settlement check about 6 weeks after the incident.
This is where it gets bad. May 22, 2007 we had a total loss house fire! The adjuster that came out, Steve **, was not exactly a "good neighbor". First thing out of his mouth was "his main concern was saving State Farm money." So after 5 months of investigating, they decided it was electrical with an unknown source. After that, they tried to pay us much less than the lowest appraisal value of our home. We bought a different house in December 2007. In November 2008, we had storm damage. It ripped an awning type roof off of our back deck, flipping it upside down on our main roof, slamming into our 3 skylights. I had a roofing company come out to do an estimate. They gave one for the awning and told us and State Farm that it could take a while to determine if the skylights would leak. Basically we had to wait for there to be enough rain for it to make its way to the ceiling to determine the damage if there was any.
Now, August 2009, I noticed a small drip coming down from one of the skylights in my living room. I only noticed this because I happened to be directly under it when it dripped. I called State Farm to tell them and when Steve ** called me back, he of course gave me attitude about it saying they "are not going to cover rot, mold, mildew or fungus and that it is a new claim!" I feel that they take advantage every chance they get if the claim is over a certain amount! They knew that the skylights were most likely damaged and it would take time to know. Due to the fact that we had less than normal snow/ice/rain it took longer than expected to find.
We have had rain but mostly light rain. When I noticed the drip, it was raining very hard. When I put my hand on the ceiling, I could feel that it was mushy and most likely had been absorbing the water for some time. Also when you look closely, you can see a hairline crack (in the ceiling) from the skylight going down to the point of the drip. I just don't know what I need to do to get State Farm to do the right thing and take care of my claim!

Opportunistic predator State Farm Homeowners Insurance ripped off a widow and two little girls after a fire (The husband/father died.), because widows and little girls are easy targets.
My home in Cahaba Heights (Birmingham, AL) was destroyed by fire in 2005. I was away, caring for my mom in FL, who was terminally ill, and my young girls. On February 24, 2005, I got a phone call. There had been a fire, and my husband, the girl's dad, had died. We contacted State Farm, our insurer, and notified them of the tragedy.
Instead of quickly adjusting the loss by rebuilding our home, paying for another temporary home, and paying for our personal property, as promised in our policy, State Farm weaseled out of rebuilding my home and took actions to make sure I was destroyed mentally, emotionally, psychologically, and financially. State Farm employee, Fred, started vicious rumors about me at my business, my husband's business, and to friends and neighbors. The rumors he started with his implications and insensitivity resulted in threats on my life. I became afraid for my safety and my daughters' safety.
I lived in fear that year and the next, having nightmares caused by the horrible rumors State Farm caused. I woke up many nights from nightmares that I had killed someone or that I was being blamed for killing someone. I later learned that Fred was an ex-FBI agent. Maybe that explains why he treated me like a criminal, rather than a good customer, who had just suffered a horrific tragedy. Fred yelled at me on the phone, when I called and asked them to honor the policy they sold me. Not only was he not helpful, he was mean and abusive. I called State Farm and complained but was still forced to deal with him. Fred also refused to answer questions on how to make the claim and fill out State Farm's Inventory and Proof of Loss forms.
He was very cunning. He told me in April and August 2005 (more than once) to not fill out a Proof of Loss about rebuilding the house. He said, "Just give us an estimate to rebuild it," which I did. Little did I know that later, State Farm would claim that I never asked them to rebuild the house. At the time, I was naive and trusted State Farm, and I did what Fred told me to do. What a huge mistake. It's obvious in retrospect that he set it up that way intentionally in order for State Farm to save money by not rebuilding my house. I was not able to be present in Birmingham to operate my business, and we suffered financially due to State Farm's failure to pay for another temporary home or "additional living expenses." I lost my business and only source of income to support my self and my children as a result of State Farm's actions and failure to perform as promised.
State Farm never repaired my home. Eventually, the roof fell in due to the extensive fire damage. My young daughters and I had to live in a condemned house in 2006. There were holes in the walls and floors, and animals came in at night. State Farm was aware of that fact, but they did nothing for us. I have photos of the condemned house where we lived in 2006, after State Farm failed to honor the policy they sold us.
Later, in a phone call, Mr. Fred's supervisor, Lloyd, privately confessed to me the real reason they didn't pay. He whispered into the phone, "Why hasn't your lawyer sent a final demand letter?" He said that my lawyer wasn't doing enough for me and that they knew he had a conflict of interest all along. In other words, he was telling me that State Farm was taking advantage of us, simply because they saw the opportunity to do so. It wasn't even my lawyer; it was my husband's estate's lawyer. I was unrepresented, and I told State Farm so, not realizing that it made my daughters and I unprotected lambs for the predator State Farm to take advantage of. I had asked State Farm if making an insurance claim required a lawyer, and they said no.
I have my phone records. They show over 80 calls to State Farm (That's over eighty calls to State Farm!), not even including the calls to and from Fred's cell phone. It should be apparent to anyone that I was frantically trying to get State Farm to do their job and what they promised in my policy. Do State Farm, Fred, and Lloyd really expect anyone to believe that I called "to talk about the weather" over 80 times? Pathetic.
It's been over four years now, and State Farm is still lying and shirking responsibility for their actions. I have been forced to spend thousands of dollars. I can't afford traveling to depositions by State Farm again and again, in which a huge table full of lawyers grilled me for 14 hours day after day. State Farm has dragged me over the coals to get rid of me. I'm not going away. I want everyone to know to know what an evil, opportunistic predator State Farm really is.
My policy promised to perform within 60 days. State Farm failed us miserably. State Farm takes in billions of dollars annually from trusting customers, but then they cheat their customers out of their homes and property. I never would have believed this could happen had this not happened to us. I was naive and trusting, and I foolishly believed State Farm's advertising. We (the consumers) buy insurance to save us from being totally destroyed by a major loss like this. It's outrageous that State Farm made the experience even worse instead of helping. I still have not recovered completely from their actions. Please don't be State Farm's next victim.

I purchased a refrigerator from Sears. The refrigerator was delivered by Exel Direct Delivery people (contracted by Sears) to my home on June 19, 2009. One of the delivery/installation men dropped the refrigerator door on my laminate flooring in the kitchen. The men also put a piece of cardboard that was part of the packaging of the refrigerator on the floor (to protect it). However, there were large staples still embedded in the cardboard box material and the laminate flooring was further scratched. The scratched area of the flooring is extensive. Laminate flooring cannot be replaced as it cannot be matched. Laminate flooring comes in dye lots and the floor is 5 years old. Therefore, the entire floor has to be replaced.
An estimate was obtained by Exel. I also obtained an estimate on July 22, 2009 and the estimate was forwarded to Exel's insurance carrier - State Farm Insurance. I have tried to contact Paula ** at State Farm numerous times without success. I have called four times and left my name and number. I have yet to receive a claim number or any response from State Farm. I am being completely ignored and I want my claim to be processed and my floor replaced. I have called Exel Direct several times, being told that it's not their problem any longer. I want this resolved! They have a legal responsibility.

Our house burned in Nov. and we filed a claim with our agent after which everyone treated us okay except one adjuster who insisted we take a check for $40,000 below the least appraisal given. Even though we told him not to bother sending it, he did anyway to the address where the house burned. The post office left a slip in the mailbox and someone signed for the check but couldn't cash it. Months later, we learned about the check and it was left up to us to file a report with the police which have done nothing toward finding the person who did this. State Farm did nothing either and left the whole mess up to us while the agent only shook her head doing nothing either.
Every month, we were asked how much longer we needed temporary accommodation knowing we could not and had not received money to even clean the mess up much less rebuild. The house was a total loss. We hired an attorney and after months of not returning his call, they informed us they will no longer pay for temporary housing. Our attorney has filed a suit against the agent and against State Farm. He said he will not be ignored and will not allow us to be pushed into accepting only a percentage of what we deserve. I have continued to pay the full amount of insurance due to continue to keep my homeowners. He asked me why I had nothing to insure. I realized he is right but still believing there is good in this world, I did what I thought I should. Not anymore. I want the full amount of what is due me and intend to give it to the court before I allow them to beat me out of one cent.

I have been counting on with State Farm Homeowners since my parents died and I was counting from my parents. They had the insurance for thirty years (1987), which adds up to be about 50 years. I was laid off from my job in (2007). I was let go from my job because of budget cuts. I was keeping up with my homeowners insurance for a month, then I was two months behind. I called to let them know that I would be sending $70. I was told by the insurance company that it would be okay. I also told them that I would be able to get caught up in the next month, so I mailed the check. Before I knew it, It was mailed back to me so I called and asked what the problem was. I was told by the insurance company that I would have to get my roof hot top and if I don't, I would be canceled from the State Farm Homeowners Insurance. I believe I was getting a raw deal. Also, I have been under a doctor's care since then. Thank you.

She said that I didn't have enough money to fix that either. I have a board up there, someone can break in on me. The cost for my bathroom is $5,000 and the window is $475.00.

I have an ongoing home-owners claim with State Farm Insurance Company resulting from the winter storm that struck Kentucky on January 28, 2009. I have been given the runaround by State Farm for far too long! I have suffered major personal loss of items and property and now they are now refusing to pay for anything! My claim was assigned to special investigator, Carolee **, from Louisville, Kentucky. After the storm hit, leaving us without power for two weeks, it took State Farm almost two months to get a claims adjuster to my home to begin the claim! Finally, someone arrived from Texas to fill out a report! Apparently, State Farm expected for us to leave everything in the condition that the storm left it so that they could take photos...not! We cleaned up as much as possible and tried to get back some quality of life as we once knew it by temporarily fixing the roof and buildings.
Well, now they refused to pay on the claim stating that they don't have proper evidence that the damage was not pre-existing! I am so fed up! I did everything that was required by State Farm as I went along, including documenting my losses. They are the most unprofessional company that I have ever been unfortunate enough to deal with! I was transferred from Tennessee to Illinois to Texas to Florida with no one having any idea what to do next! I refuse to take this laying down. And now ironically, there seems to be no one that you can actually complain to except the agent that is assigned to your case! Isn't that handy?
Resulting from my roof not being repaired, I am continuing to suffer further loss with each passing day! I have now had to replace my washer and dryer both from water damage! When I spoke with the agent on the phone earlier, she told me that they were not going to pay anything further on the claim! This is insane! Now the electric has gone out in the entire back of my house from the water damage! I told her that I was going to contact an attorney! Surely, there is someone out there that will not stand for this! When the monthly insurance premiums are due, State Farm expects their money! But when there is a problem and a claim needs to be filed, they continue to give their clients the runaround?

Our family was on vacation, and between the hours of 6:00 pm (July 12) and 4:00 pm (July 13), our two 4-wheelers were stolen. State Farm is refusing to cover any portion of the amount owed. We have coverage on our dwelling, dwelling extension, and personal property, which is totaling $189,255 worth of coverage. I knew the 4-wheelers would not be covered off our property, but due to our homeowners insurance, I was assured it would be covered on the property. I have filed a complaint with the Texas Board of Insurance, the Better Business Bureau, and the corporate office of State Farm.
One of the 4 wheelers is a 2006 model with $4200 still owed on it, and the 2008 Yamaha was purchased as a gift for my son when he finished college, for which we're still owing $9300. Because perpetrators came onto my property and stole our two 4-wheelers, we are now required to pay $14,100 on two items we no longer own, and our homeowners policy will cover. We were not notified of the change in our policy. They just put the information in small letters in the exclusion portion and don't feel the need to make you aware of the change.
I contacted several other insurance agencies, and 4-wheelers are covered under their homeowner policies. Why is State Farm being allowed to exclude items without proper notification to their consumers? We have been a customer of State Farm for over 25 years, and like a good neighbor, State Farm is there and has taken on a whole new prospective.
Several families we know are now considering changing insurance companies over this situation with our family. We have had only two small claims over 25 years, and when we need them the most, they are not there. Again, this is bureaucracy at its finest. Anything, anyone can get by with, if they will. It seems like insurance companies are just there when it's time to pay the bill, but when you need to make a claim, they will make every attempt to find a loophole in order to not pay their claims.

Ike caused damage to my parent’s home in Houston in September. A tree fell on the garage and part of the kitchen. It hit the hot water heater and gas line so there was no water for the house. Lightning also struck a tree next to the air conditioner and caused it to go out. Because of these two things, they had to live outside the home for 9 months. Yes, nine months. Three adjusters argued with several contractors who ended up refusing to work with them and moved on to other jobs.
As the house set, more damage was done by water and the total cost for construction ended up costing a little over $34,000. This did not include cost of removing the dead tree that lightning had struck because my parents could not prove that it had been struck during the storm. My parents wrote a check to the construction company for the entire amount. They were told that they would get money for the appliances, cost of living and electricity they had to buy as a result of damage.
When my dad asked about this, they were told the claim was closed and he would not get any more money. The appliances had not been put in any of the three adjusters' reports! The only reason the hot water heater was fixed was because the contractors had put it in their bid. We are still arguing with the insurance company about rent, electricity, freezer, washer and dryer payments.
My parents have been with State Farm for the entire 33 years they have had their home and this was their first claim ever! Because they were out of their house, it was broken into. My parents had to make a new claim and pay another $1,000.00 deductible! So, for a new front door, new back window, a computer and jewelry that were stolen my dad got $750.00!
My parents’ savings were depleted during this ordeal along with other things. Even though it cannot be proven, the stress of this caused my mom to have a heart attack and die before she could even stay in her house one more night. Our local insurance agent even asked if we thought that this did it and I told her absolutely!

The extreme storm in June of 2008 caused a tree limb to tear away the flashing around my chimney. The torrential rain came in through the hole and flooded extensive regions of the interior of my home. An adjuster came out within a few days and assessed the damage at $1,400. I complained as the mold which grew in profusion was causing my wife and I severe health problems and they later sent another to inspect the damage almost six months after the event. They wrote an assessment for $4,500 this time and stated that they did not cover mold. Since I have a $5,000 deductible, they refused to pay anything. The water damage ruined my roof, walls, floors (custom made poplar), electrical box, gutters, eaves, furnace, vents and on and on. They essentially waited until mold grew on the damaged structures to deny coverage, even though the water caused the damage not mold. I hired an independent adjuster and they assessed the damage at well over $100,000.
Even though, I paid for an independent appraiser, State Farm refused to hire one in 30 days to continue the case stating we had not provided any proof of contention of their assessment, even though I submitted an estimate for partial repairs for over $23,000 before I ever hired and independent appraiser. The United Way helped us and the repairs were performed. Now State Farm insists there is no proof of damage. I have the estimates submitted to the United Way from the people who did the repairs. State Farm is straight out corrupt and has used delays and inappropriate tactics and policy interpretations to defraud us of our right to compensation. I have had coverage for all my insurance needs through State Farm for almost 25 years and have never filed a large claim for anything. Basically, my wife and I are nearly bankrupt and have paid out of pocket for many items destroyed and for repairs before the United Way assisted us, and we have been seriously sick for almost a year.

I have had State Farm Insurance for all my needs for the past 9 years. I have a modest ranch style home on a slab. This past Oct/Nov, I noticed that my vanity in our hall bathroom was being damaged by moisture. We could find no leak under the bathroom sink, so we hired someone to come check our shower/tub. They replaced washers and said the problem was fixed. We then took out part of our vanity to replace it. It was then that we could see water seeping from somewhere behind our bathroom walls (tub area) to the floor behind the wall. We cut into a small area of the wall and found black mold and water damage to the entire bottom portion of our bathroom on the two sides surrounding our tub. One wall backs up against our kitchen cabinets wall. I contacted State Farm and was told that even though the front of our policy states in big letters we have coverage for mold damage of up to $10,000.00, that if we read the fine print on our actual policy, we would see that coverage does not include slow leaks, even if there was no way the homeowner could be aware of it! It only covered damage from catastrophic events.

A 150- to 180-foot oak tree fell from a neighbor's yard onto and into our house causing severe damage. Thomas ** (first of 3 adjusters) prepared his own estimate and sent us a check for just over $21,000 and told us to make arrangements to repair the house. He did not care that the estimates from contractors were between $85,000 and $106,000. It was up to us to get it repaired for just over $21,000. It took him 32 days to see the damaged property. Since then we have had to hire a Public Adjuster.
It is going to end up costing us between $15,000 and $20,000 for the Public Adjuster. It has taken 12 months of no communication. Repairs are almost completed at over $106,000. We are currently over 5 times their original offer and that does not include contents or additional living expenses. To show how bad State Farm is, it took them so long to pay the moving and storage company that removed what little belongings we have left (it only took 5 months to approve). We paid in advance to return our belongings since State Farm does not pay in a timely manner. I cannot begin to explain the daily hassles and immense stress throughout this ordeal.

On October 31, 2008, we had a house fire and lost nearly everything. The insurance company came out and started working in our favor. Then they hired a contractor to do work on our house. Well things started out okay at least the demolition of our house. They gave a bid of $58,509.38 to complete our house. As things began in progress, we noticed that they were not doing things by industry standard or code. We notified the insurance company and nothing was done. The insurance promised to take care of bills at the house that burnt and we would take care of bills at rental which did not happen.
A few weeks ago, we had a meeting with Lindsay and the contractor to point out what was going on. The contractor stated he was finished with the job which in fact he was not. They removed and charged for things such as: removed aluminum windows and replaced them with vinyl, removed hardwood floors and replaced with laminate, removed special order cabinets in kitchen and replaced with stock, they did not seal any walls or floors, paint the outside. There is so much to list. I have all documentation and pictures they charged for all the above and much more but never did the job. We have had State Farm Insurance for over 17 years. All of our auto, homeowners and personal articles' policies have been with them. About 1 and 1/2 years ago, we had just moved into our new house. We were in the middle of getting our backyard fenced in (the fencing materials were literally lying on the ground). One of the neighbor's kids came into the yard and was close to our German Shepherd. Our dog was sniffing him and everything was fine, but the kid put his hand out unexpectedly and our dog nipped his finger. Of course we felt horrible - we told his parents if there were any medical bills we would be happy to pay them. He had a small puncture wound on his finger which healed fine within a week or so.
We made a claim to our insurance company so the medical bills would be covered. At that time, our agent told us that if we made this claim we might be dropped, and I argued with her and she told me she would talk to the underwriters and see what she could do. We never heard anything back and shortly afterward, we received a letter from State Farm saying the claim had been settled and the file was being closed. We thought everything was fine, and now about 5 or 6 months later, we get a message on our machine stating that if we don't get rid of our dog, they are dropping our coverage. If we would have known this ahead of time, we wouldn't have made the claim. We would have paid the medical bills out of our own pocket. We have hardly ever made any claims over 17 years - once for hitting the garage door! We have paid $1,000s and $1,000s in premiums and this is how they treat you! We have been told we probably won't be able to get anyone else to insure us if we keep our dog.

It just happened during the snow storm and the area was declared a disaster by the government. FEMA walked in, saw interior damage and said snow load so now 4 countractors and Fema and SF's 1st adjuster and FEMA see. Others have had homes fixed and on their way. We are still fighting because contractor said Settling from snow load so SF took his word, settling, as an excuse not to pay. It was caused by snow load.
House roof was destroyed and two support beams cracked as snowload drove the home downward. State Farm has yet to pay after several contractors said snow load damage. They have had us deal with 10 different people. They have lied and played games. Now, they say another 2-3 weeks after 3 months - I guess they want more damage or the house to cave in.
