State Farm treats you like family. Great rates for home and car, including coverage for rv's, boats, 4 wheelers, etc. They help you after an accident, to make you whole again. Ex: rental car, Dr, etc. I've been with State Farm almost 20 years now, and I was very thankful I had insurance with State Farm when my son was rear ended. The car was totaled. The driver of the SUV was only in the States to help open a wind turbine plant. It was a mess. State Farm did all the heavy lifting, I didn't have to do anything. Drop them a line, see what you're missing.

My husband wanted me to cancel State Farm. Then Hurricane Irma came through. Everyone I had to deal with from SF came through in ways I could not have imagined. We had a very high deductible on the house, so SF didn’t help there. But when we got water damage, not storm related, SF was terrific.

We have been using State Farm for all of our Auto, Homeowners and Rental insurance needs for 15 years or more. Once, while making an in-town move, we had many items stolen from the house we were moving from; to include 3 specialize, very expensive computers. Once we reported, the local agent took it from there. The claims paperwork and process was easy, and we were reimbursed at replacement cost within one week of the incident. Our rates were not impacted, and the agent genuinely cared about getting us back on track.
Just recently, we had what initially started out to be a very bad experience, when we need roadside assistance. I called the 800 number for the request, and the phone center representative, informed us that due to the circumstance, the contract tow/assistance companies would not respond due to liability reasons. This was simply not true as we have unfortunately been in this same situation before years earlier. To make a long story short, we took care of the situation at hand ourselves, through other means; and promptly called our local agent. Within an hour, we received a call from State Farm Corporate, and they quickly resolved the situation (financially & personally), retrained the call center representative, and we actually received an apology letter. There is a reason they are a leader in the industry, this is just a couple of examples.

I have had State Farm in my vehicles since 1982. I love my agent. Three years ago I switched my homeowner's to get the multi line discount. Last summer the neighbor's tree fell onto my property and I submitted a damage claim. This week I got a letter that they are canceling my coverage because of my claims history. ONE claim! My agent said their policy that if you have a claim in the first few years they cancel you. Now I have to find new coverage and the quotes are almost $1000 more per year for less coverage with higher deductible. I am soooo mad.

I needed insurance for my storage unit at a self storage facility. The storage company offered it thru their company but I wanted to stay loyal. Come to find out apparently insurance companies don't insure individual storage units. But State Farm told me I was getting renters insurance & that covers me. But what they did was charge me for a homeowners policy on a home that isn't even mine. My name is not on the mortgage. But they tried to tell me they have to write it under a homeowners policy as renters insurance and in turn it would cover 90% of my belongings at the house and 10% of my storage unit.
They never told me any of this. Everything I own is in my storage unit. That is where I need the coverage. I find the whole situation to be very unethical. Unfortunately, when it comes to purchasing my car insurance I can't afford to choose the company that has better ethics. So ashamed I walk away with my head down. Financially I don't have a choice.

They seem to change the 'deductible' at will. We have yet to make a 'claim' but it seem like it covers less and less, with more "restrictions". The only loss covered, it seems, is loss by "accidental" fire; weather caused? No, natural disaster? No, resulting from "terrorist" attack? No, etc.

I don't know how the water got inside, the car wouldn't start, the dashboard lights was going crazy, clock was spinning back and forth, I got the car towed to AAMCO, State Farm adjuster came to look at the car and told the mechanic to fixed everything. After 2 weeks the mechanic gave them the estimated, it was over $3000. He had to do a lot in the car, State Farm don't want to pay for the repair, they only gave me $600.
This is ridiculous, the mechanic won't release the car until he gets paid, I don't have a car to get to work. It's been almost 2 months, the mechanic charged $50 a day for storage, had a rental car. State Farm said I reached my limit to return the car and yet my still in the shop and they won't pay for it. I carpool with people to get to work. State Farm is the worst insurance company. Omg. I have never rated or commented on a business before but as consumers if we do not speak up the word will not be heard. My parents have been a State Farm customer for 35 years and in those 35 years only once have they filed a small claim with their homeowner's policy back in the 80's. Due to the wind storms recently they lost their roof on their home, garage and gutters and it was decided by State Farm in writing they indeed needed to be replaced. First, State Farm settlement provided insufficient funds. They advised I submit a estimate from the roofing company with their cost and then a signed estimate with my parents signature which I did.
The claim handler Mr. ** advised me on 3/31/2018 of the new amounts that would be sent via checks to my parents giving me the okay to start the work. The day of delivery to start the roof replacement, Mr. ** advised me there has been a mistake in depreciation and reduced my parents settlement amount by about two thousand and advising the roofing company quote was too high as well which it was not. State Farm corporate advised management would contact us. Mr ** did so and his explanation for not paying the total cost minus the deductible was the upgrade in shingles which is not covered by State Farm. The upgrade was approximately $600.00 according to the contractor in his estimate and not $2000.00.0
My parents who are retired seniors have paid into this policy for 35 years. Had I not intervened State Farm would of tried to take total advantage as their first settlement amount clearly provided insufficient funds but then confirmed with me the adjusted claim amounts, knowing I would start the job and waited until the day of delivery and reduced the claim amount because clearly they never intended to pay the total on the claim since the beginning, not to mention the time back and forth this took me and their excuses. My opinion is take your business elsewhere. After faithfully paying into a homeowners insurance policy, for 35 years. Never utilizing it, until absolutely necessary, and getting ripped off, DO NOT CONDUCT BUSINESS WITH STATE FARM HOMEOWNERS INSURANCE!

We have had State Farm Homeowners Insurance since 1973 when we purchased our home. For the past year, we have had problems with foundation shifts, bulges, etc. under our A/C Heater. We have had State Farm inspect everything (supposedly) three times. According to them, there is no problem. About a month ago, our foundation split total across house under the wall of two bedroom, causing the foundation to drop 1/2 inch in the Master Bedroom and our middle bedroom. We finally had a private inspection done with the proper equipment and the findings were absolutely astounding! The pipe that takes the condensed water out of the A/C pan had corroded and the water was soaking into the foundation, causing it to bulge up under the A/C. This action has tilted the entire foundation to lift under the A/C and slant the entire foundation on the bedroom side of the house to slant off downward, shifting doorways and walls.
When State Farm sent out the last inspector he was to check for leaks under the A/C, brought no equipment to do so, told us to turn off all of the water in the bathroom, went out, opened the Water Meter and just stood there looking at it. He then came in and told us there were no leaks. He, as usual with State Farm, gave us no copy of his report and left. State Farm is giving us problems with our claim, so I asked for a copy of the report. I received it yesterday and now I know why they never give their customers copies of the reports they end up filing. According to the report, the Inspector used all of the modern equipment that detects leaks in foundation, which he did not. The report he filed is totally bogus! Sam **, our Agent, told us that our policy covered this problem since it was purchased in 1973 when these types of leaks were covered. Now State Farm is saying, no they are not.

My husband and I got State Farm insurance a little over 3 1/2 years ago. About three months into having our insurance a contractor damaged our kitchen floor. Come to find out that the contractor did not have insurance and all of a sudden he closed his business and went bankrupt. So we filed a claim. Everything seem to be OK and then a year and a half after we filed the claim we were canceled. Stated that we were a high-risk because six years ago a water pipe broke and we had a claim and mind you that claim was going to be dropped off so it would not of been counted against us.
Our insurance agent didn't call us, we received a letter in the mail informing us that we were canceled. I don't understand why we were canceled. I'm paying for the floor every year when we don't have a claim. They're still making plenty of money off of us but because we needed them one time they decided that we were too much of a risk. I feel like they are too much of a risk and I believe they should be reported for improper practice.

If I could’ve put zero stars, I would have. I have homeowner’s and multiple life insurance policies with State Farm (all of which are about to be cancelled). I had a flood in our second bathroom 6 weeks ago, the water complete flooded the bathroom and went under the house, leaking to the outside. Multiple contractor estimates were around $20,000 to fix all the damage. State Farm initially said they’d pay $1350 of it, now they added an add’l $1800 but refused to address that the posts my house are on are sitting in standing water.
We’ve talked to multiple adjusters, supervisors and our broker and nothing can be done despite some obvious health and safety issues. We’ve also had major problems arguing with State Farm a decade ago, about an auto insurance claim. Save yourself TONS of money and headaches and avoid this company altogether. I’ve never had such terrible customer service from a company that I had an ongoing relationship with. What a horrible way to treat long term loyal customers. Never again.

I have been with State Farm Insurance for 12 years. In that time I have never had to file a claim for house repairs. I had a sudden strong wind lift the roof of the patio of one of my houses. The State Farm adjuster came out to look at the damage and said she would take care of everything. My roof is five months old and State Farm said they would patch the damaged section. All they paid for was to put a little tar on the damage part. My roofer came out to make the repairs and told me that patch job was only good for 3 to 4 years. He said for it to be properly repaired it should be coated and that would last 25 years.
I have called every day to State Farm adjuster and none of my calls have ever been returned. I called the claims department and again not return phone calls. I have paid several thousands of dollars throughout the years and the one time I need to file a claim there's a huge problem. Once this issue is resolved and I find another Insurance Company and cancel my policies for both homes. I would never ever recommend State Farm to anyone.

We've had homeowners through State Farm for 20 years. We've had car insurance longer than that. My entire family - parents and siblings have had State Farm for car and home for at least 50 years. My husband and I got a cancellation letter because we didn't replace some boards on our house. I informed SF, Wells Fargo and GA that we haven't seen an agent in 15 years. I was told that they sent a letter in 2016 about "some boards" needing replacement. No pictures, diagrams or a human to point out which boards need to be replaced. SO, they sent ONE letter TWO years ago, no calls/voicemails/emails/person, and SUDDENLY, we get cancelled.
Even today, the State Farm lady didn't offer to tell us which boards need to be replaced. We don't have leaks or anything hanging or floppy or damaged, so how the heck are we supposed to know what to replace? What if we just take a guess and replace boards that State Farm wasn't concerned about? Although, State Farm is all my family has ever dealt with, I am apprehensive about them now. Who is running the company that approves of a process of telling a homeowner to replace something, refusing to show them what to replace, then cancelling them even though every payment has been made on time? They don't deserve our money anyway.

State Farm had me as a customer for over 11 years. I had some water damage that was caused by my upstairs neighbor, twice in a few years. She refused to pay and refused to give me her insurance information. So of course I put in a claim with State Farm not knowing how bad it would get. They did pay out, less than $2k total over all incidents. They never went after the upstairs neighbor's insurance company even though it's settled law in Illinois and explicit in the condo documents that she is responsible. Now not only have I been non-renewed, based on the information they are publishing about me. I cannot get insurance on it. I'm going to have to be homeless basically because the insurer of last resort has such sky-high prices I cannot afford to keep the place.
They have also recorded fraudulent information about claims experience on my auto - publishing as a bodily injury claim something that was just a collision claim. I assume they do this to jack up rates that you see with other insurance providers to prevent you from switching. State Farm is a company to be avoided. They have unethical business practices. The people in the business just say all decisions are made by computer. I was told by an agent Chris ** in Illinois that "well, you should not have used the Insurance you paid for over 11 years...everyone knows you don't actually use your insurance..." So again, it's a mob protection racket. If you don't pay your protection you get homeless. If you try to actually use your protection you get whacked so you can't get protection, and then you get homeless.

After more than 40 years as a State Farm customer - auto, personal belongings and homeowners - I am UTTERLY disappointed and shocked. We discovered that our water heater (located in garage) had a leak when the baseboards in a bedroom began to swell and the carpet was damp. Investigation showed that the water heater had apparently sprung a slow leak - and the water ran down the stand in into wall adjacent to bedroom. As soon as we discovered, we did all the right things with calling plumbers, disconnecting water heater, etc. Work began with State Farm - recommended partners to mitigate it all.
After water heater was gone, walls were demo'd and dryers and dehumidifiers are in place, the claims guy comes too and says they will deny claim. I appealed and his boss denied as well. Reason was that the leak was 'over time' and they don't cover that. Because there was some 'rust' or discoloration in a photo on stand cover, they used this as evidence the leak had been for a prolonged period of time. IN fact, the discoloration was from years ago and never replaced. YET - 8 or 10 years back we had a similar claim on a leak behind refrigerator and it was fully covered. When I asked why the inconsistency, they said - "perhaps the first claim should not have been covered".
I pay for same policy. I expect same coverage. I am not please with weak effort of my agent - who also expressed a bit of surprise at the claim not being covered. Seems the company is a bit arbitrary about what is covered and not covered. This reasoning suggests they only cover 'explosions' and not slow leaks and that the homeowner should check every pipe in walls and under counters weekly to see if there are any 'seeping or slow' leaks. ABSURD. I intend to take all my business elsewhere. Be very careful with State Farm (formerly very reliable - now nothing buy hucksters).

2nd lie. We get moved back in July of 2017. WHAT MY BIGGEST COMPLAINT IS if you have lost everything WHY MUST you have to fill out this stupid inventory sheet. For every item you could have possibly had. Room by room, drawer by drawer, closet by closet, window by window. I mean really. I guess this where the pictures would have been helpful to us I guess. It really didn't make a difference. Anyway, they only said with depreciation her entire house is only worth $16,000. Are freaking kidding me.
Mind you we had to pay utilities at the rental they put her in. I have been going back and forth with Mrs. Wendy ** on how the content needs to be verbaged. I have to tell every name brand / type of the shoe, shirt, skirt, purse etc. By how long I had it. To how much I paid for it. I did all that to the best of my ability. Get this to top it all off the lost my father's military flag that they said they were going to have cleaned. They asked my mom was it anything in the house that need desperately to keep. That was my father's military flag, her dad's watch, her mom's cast iron skillets, and a picture. They took those items away to have them cleaned and ready when she came back home.
Of course nobody knows where they are now. They lost it and no one knows what happened to them. But you want to harass me about how I sent the receipt information. My mom's mom died the very next day our house burned down. So now she has no memories of her parents nor the love of her life. Now that the new house is built they have increased the insurance coverage. She went in debt thinking she is getting her money back for each new item she purchases. They are not giving us any more money. You ask what happened to the $93,000 coverage that she so faithfully paid every month to have coverage in case something bad happens.
THEY KEEP IT. And there is nothing we can do. I can't imagine an senior citizen having to compile all this information alone. This company is getting over big time. Some people just give up cause it's clearly too much. Whatever I purchased I need it. Why do I have to tell you the line item I am replacing. Anyone knows what it cost you to purchase furniture years ago is way cheaper than now. So why would you give me the price of my living room what it cost back then. I know GOD is going to make a way to get back everything that we lost.
It cant end like this. My representative was very rude and disrespectful. Not understanding that we don't understand what she is needing. No patience like it was the day of the fire. I refuse to talk to her. When I get off the phone with her I am so confused even more. I have to wait 2 years before I can cancel. I have to purchased all my items for my house before November 2018. My mom is on social security. She can't possibly purchase a entire house in 9 months. Overall this company is not loyal to even the best customer. Awesome company until you file a claim.

I've been insured via State Farm for decades. My policies over the years included homeowners, car and renters. I never considered even getting quotes for other insurance even though I could have likely saved money doing so, why? Because State Farm was my insurance company and my parents insurance company (i.e., it was the family’s insurance company).
This all changed when I was victim to a home robbery. My first claim was for damages incurred and possessions stolen was $3K. The next robbery 3 months later was only damage, due to having anticipated another attempt and hidden all items to likely be stolen, was only $500. Five months after being rendered a victim a second time I received a letter from State Farm thanking me for being a loyal client but conveying their intention to not renew my homeowners policy, two months prior to renewal. I understand Insurance companies work the numbers and play the odds to ensure they're on the positive side of the money game, I don't fault them for responding to my break-ins. I do however fault them for choosing to terminate my homeowner's policy with no warning. Never did my agent convey a likelihood that my insurance would be cancelled if I filed the second claim - never.
What's worse, when I requested an appeal of the ruling, which was granted, I was unable to speak on my own behalf but instead had to really on my very ill-informed agent to speak on my behalf. Did she convey that I spent over $10K replacing perfectly fine windows with unbreakable windows, installed a $2K HD surveillance system, installed a $1K security door and reinforced door casings of all my doors leading outside with steel (to prevent intrusions), all at my own expense? I highly doubt it. But even if she did, apparently it was for not because the finding was the same and no renewal would be granted.
I would've fully understood a raising of my premiums based on the break-ins, of course, but severing the policy with no warning is simply not a sign of a "good neighbor". "Good neighbors" are supposed to be there in your time of need, not just when you don't need them or their service at all. In all the years I had homeowner's policy via State Farm I only needed them twice, but apparently that was one time too many. "Like a good neighbor"... Please, the day I received that letter from State Farm was the day I was rendered a victim for a third time due to my traumatic burglaries. With "good neighbors" like that who on earth needs bad neighbors? I had all my car policies transferred elsewhere and will never do business with State Farm again. Never!!!

Our deductible went from $2500-$7980. Basically there wipes out any cost to State Farm in terms of our claim and leaves everything on our responsibility. I had submitted a claim for water damage to a portion of my house, consulted with my agent before submitting the claim and was denied coverage. I expressed my disappointment to my agent who told me he would see what he could do. He asked for me to get a quote from a contractor for repair and I did. After a couple of months, and numerous inquiries by me as to the status, I was informed by letter from SF that my homeowners coverage was not going to be renewed. The reason: for the claim I submitted that nothing was paid on. I have the letter that states that very fact (glad to share with you and all the emails to this agent).

After 25 years as a State Farm customer we bought a new policy and cancel the current one with State Farm. This company told me that my claim was one of $4,200.00 but with depreciation offered me $42.50. I was totally disgusted as that would pay for fuel to Lowe's to pick them up. We have had State Farm Homeowners for over 30 years with no claims. When we approached office about filing a claim for a ceiling collapse we were told that you were allowed one claim every 30 years and that if we called the adjuster for an inspection that the inspector would likely find some reason to deny the claim... installation fault or structural issues... even though house is over 50 years old with no issues. Even though a claim is denied they said, "It would count against your once every 30 years allowed filing." They said the chance of cancelling policy increased with claims or even claim denial. This was very disappointing and made us question why we have insurance with this company. I've been a State Farm customer for fifty years, never filed for anything but a few windshields and perhaps one fender bender. Recently a 10 ft by 6ft section of my roof blew off, anyone could tell that another section was about to come down and much of the other roof was in bad shape. I called several roofers and was told it certainly was an insurance condition as we had a hail storm just 2 weeks before. I filed a claim and was told to get a roofer to put a tarp on it to prevent inside damage (I guess that might have harder to get out of paying for). I did this and paid a roofer to put some tar paper and a tarp over it. When the inspector called I told him that the whole roof was bad needed to be replaced, he told sarcastically that, "We'll see about that". I knew at that point the outcome had been predetermined.
He said all it needed was some shingles and it did reach my deductible. Also the appointment had to be made to meet his schedule not the customer's. I called Baxter Griffith agency (my account) and told them I was not happy about the whole experience and Nicole had someone from the claims section, a Mr. Lowell ** call me, he told me to find one roofer and have him give a quote and to write up the reasons he thought the roof needed to be replaced and he would do what he could to help. He did. I was contacted by Richard **, claims dept. He scheduled an appt then called and canceled because it might rain and he could get on the roof (didn't rain until 5 o'clock). I had to take another off to meet his schedule. When he did come out he was in street clothes, no large ladder, nice man told me a few roofing stories and finally told me State Farm wouldn't cover anything.
When I told Mr. ** that I paid to have someone cover the hole in roofing he said they would pay for it (this whole process has taken 5 or 6 wks). No sense of urgency on anyone's part. I finally got a call from a lady in the claims dept who she would put the 2 amounts together and pay half of what it cost to have the roof tarped, even after they were the ones who told me to have it done. Since 1967 I paid premiums amounting to over 150k dollars, I always thought of State Farm as the gold standard but it appears you have no standards at all. The roofer I got had no horse in the race, I told him I was going have to replace the roof even if State Farm weaseled out of it.
This whole process with State Farm has been the single worst I have ever had with any company about anything. I certain plan to tell everyone on every social platform available to me how utterly disappointed I am with your company. I am 74 and have to find 10k to replace my roof. The roofers I had look at my roof were surprise that it was not covered, but added but it is State Farm. I guess that says it all. Thanks for always getting premium notices to me on time, never missed those. If the house burned down I guess you all would claim the electricians that wire were incompetent. Very sad, but these things have a way catching up to companies asked USAIR, GM, Chrysler, Penney's, Sears, Toys "R" Us, etc.

We moved to the US from England 2.5 years ago and took a renter's insurance with State Farm. We've paid around $320 per annum for the policy and, in June this year, we were broken into and needed to make a claim. First off, we thought we had a replacement policy and, yes, when we went to make the claim we're told by the agent how lucky we were to have that. The $500 deductible we swallowed only to find that this 'replacement cost' was applied only AFTER State Farm had estimated what something was worth, e.g. I had a handbag that I bought a few years ago that they estimated is still worth $250 so they'll only pay me for the amount beyond the $250! So what was the point in that.
Then, to add insult to injury, they are now refusing to renew our policy because of our claim history - $400 in total!!! So, you take out a policy to cover yourself then, when you need it, you then become uninsurable or insured at a major premium. BE WARNED ONLY USE State Farm if you NEVER intend to make a claim on your policy!

I never got a return call.
When my agent bridged me into someone in the Claims Department, they spent the time trying to convince me not to file a claim as it would affect my policy. For over a month I have sate with a 4x9 foot hole in my ceiling trying to get my claim resolved. The answer I finally received was, they don't cover leaks from pipes unless the pipe explodes and water gushes out like a fire hose.
The worst part of this story is the claim that State Farm changed their policy on water damage 7 years ago! It would have been nice if they told their policy holders. I have been with State Farm for 48 years, covering 5 homes, 20+ cars, and a personal liability policy. I have been with State Farm Insurance Company for 20+ years. My home was built with poly-butylene pipe fittings (which had a class action suit in the early 2000). Recently, the fittings began to break successively. I had filed a claim in 2009, for the same problem. However, the agent at that time was being replaced with another agent. Therefore, the claims form that I should have filed were either not submitted or dropped through the cracks in the transition.
Recently, I have had three pipe fittings break successively. The last break caused water damage to my hardwood floors. As a result, I filed the claim and the process began. Then the claim adjuster informed me that after researching my files, it was noticed that I did not file a claims report. They realized that they issued funds for the work, however, it could be that I did not have the work performed. They will not pay for the same repairs twice. It is their duty to save the company money. After exhausting all avenues, I thought that problem was resolved. Received the go ahead to start the repairs (which would be in excess of the amount of my deductible and more). To my dismay, I received two individual packets from them in the mail today with forms for the repairs done in 2009.
Last week I went to the bank that I have my accounts with and requested if they could give me copies of my statements for two months in 2009. I was informed that they maintain records for a seven year period. Mind you, I had also told the adjuster that I had a written statement from the person that replaced the hardwood floors in my home. The agent stated that's not necessary. Now I am getting mixed signals. Therefore, as a result of the inconsistencies within the company and the lack of really being "a good neighbor", I am in search of a new company. The pre-work that has already been done is not far from exceeding my deductible. Their estimated cost for the work is above the depreciated cost amount allotted. After this, I will no longer be insured by them.

After 27 straight years of auto insurance with State Farm, (Snake Farm) and 10 years straight of homeowners, they canceled my homeowners policy because I had the audacity to use it. Here's the story; In June 2016 a freak hail storm hit SW Wyoming and did millions of dollars worth of damage to cars, structures etc. This is a very uncommon weather event for this area. We had damage to our roof, window screens, fence, deck, and stucco. The adjuster came out, looked at everything, took pictures, etc. He climbed up on the roof, measured it, photographed the damage, and told me there was only damage to a small area. Now I'm not a professional contractor but I have helped to install several roofs and this didn't sound right to me. I noticed the same adjuster also inspected both of my next door neighbors as they were insured with SF as well.
I asked both of these neighbors about the damage to their property and they told me the adjuster said they had minimal roof damage. I waited a few days and then I talked to some of the other people who live on the street. Turns out the people who did NOT have SF insurance were all getting new roofs while everyone who DID have SF had "Minimal damage." All of the houses on my street were built at the same time by the same contractor so isn't as if the age of the roofs or materials was a factor. I called SF and pointed out this interesting pattern and they agreed to send out a different adjuster. I made arrangements with a local contractor to be at my house when the new adjuster said he'd be there. After looking at the roof with my contractor, the new adjuster agreed that the roof would have to be replaced.
I told my neighbors who have SF to call and complain and yup, you guessed it. SF said, "Oh my goodness, the first adjuster just made an innocent mistake, (On every roof) and you need a new roof." The amount they paid me for my roof was significantly less than the actual cost, because the now ruined shingles were ten years old, and therefore not worth as much as new shingles. Apparently this is legal and every company does it, just another way you get screwed when you need your insurance. About 8 months go by and SF sends me a letter informing me that my homeowners policy will be canceled in 30 days because I had two claims. The first claim was wind damage from several years ago and they had to pay out a whopping $143. Needless to say I canceled ALL of my SF policies and I will never do business with them again.

State Farm handled our homeowner's insurance claim in bad faith, refusing to address the line items in our contractor's invoice for our actual water damage, instead relying on a self-serving "estimate" from their consultant that came in thousands of dollars below actual cost. Their consultant came to our house on day 6, saw that the home was still saturated, shook our contractor's hand complimenting him on doing such a good job and then proceeded to write an estimate for 5 days drying time. Even a lay person can tell this makes no sense. State Farm also delayed our case and was unresponsive to our inquiries. State Farm took 22 days to even contact our contractor to express disagreement with their invoice (and even then, did not have specific concerns, just that the invoice was "too high") I do not recommend State Farm Homeowners Insurance. This has been a nightmare.

While on vacation in Disney on November 15, 2016, I received a call that my basement was flooded with approximately 3 feet of water. Unable to get to my home we called a friend and a company that handles these claims. The water was pumped out, my basement was gutted and fans were placed to dry the basement within a day. Because my insurance (STATE FARM) all the water damaged property had to remain in place until the auditor can inspect the property. Today is June 20, 2017 and my property is still in the same place and construction cannot start. Apparently the claims associate Debra ** believes the claim was too high and has put us through hell.
She sent a cleaning service to clean any salvageable clothes, an electronics restoration company to remove all my electronics (i.e., television, PlayStation, Xbox, etc.) and service master restoration to clean any salvageable toys, figures and furniture. It has been 7 months and I am still waiting for compensation for all my property that I had. My basement had a storage closet, full laundry room, our family room and the hot water heater and air conditioning system. ALSO, I cannot have the contractors start any work because all my property is still in the same place.

I've been with State Farm for over 37 years. I guess I only have myself to be upset at... I really expected more from a company I'd been doing business with for that long. My insurance has been rising steadily this past year. I would call often and inquire as to why it keeps going up, and I always get the same answer... It's the market. Well, that's a lie. I now have Progressive and saving myself over $30 a month. Not an introductory price. How can Progressive give me better coverage, higher amounts on everything and some extras on our RV. Also lower deductables. How can they do that and a company I've been with that long cannot. Never in all those years filed a single claim on my home. The only claim on an automobile was over 20 years ago for a deer that ran across the road into my car. It was a very low claim to boot.
So, I call the agent and he is pretty nonchalant and says, "When they raise your rates... and they will. We'll be happy to take you back. You won't have the discounts you have now of course". The SOB actually threatened me to stay. He didn't really care about me. I could easily tell that. There were several other companies that came very close to Progressive and I've also heard good things about. I've been asking the question, "Who are you insured with" to a lot of people I know. It's amazing how many are moving away from State Farm or just not happy with rising rates and customer service. I guess I'm not a "Good Neighbor".
I know companies have to raise rates, but why on people who never file claims. Criminal :( It's just sad that they can operate that way. But, that's the past and it felt really good to send my cancellation papers in and move on with life. Again, it's really all my fault for not looking sooner. I guess I was lazy. I would NEVER go back to State Farm, it's the principle of it. Best of luck.

Long story short...from having a bill at $139 and some change I was charged $208!!! I spoke with Carol from Tony **'s office and she said..."It is what it is"!!! Carol acknowledged that I was misquoted and that it was because representative I spoke with was an after hours agent but there was nothing they can do. Initially, we called after shingles blew off our detached garage. The State Farm adjuster came out and said the damage was under our deductible. He sent us notification referring us to attached documentation. There was no attached documentation. Shortly thereafter shingles blew off our home. We again contacted State Farm and they sent out an adjuster. We assisted him in every way we could, including having my teenage son carry a ladder to our upper deck to assist him getting on our roof. After his inspect, the adjuster commented that our roof is steep and he didn't go over to "the other side" to check the roof because of the roof's pitch on our two story home. The adjuster made a comment to me about seeing hail damage on the far side of the roof. I thought nothing of it because hail is not uncommon here.
State Farm paid a claim to replace our entire roof 9 years ago after a very bad hail storm. A year later, State Farm paid for 1/2 a roof after another very bad hail storm. The adjuster asserted that we had not had the 1/2 roof replaced even though State Farm had paid for it; therefore, he deducted the amount paid on that 1/2 roof replacement from the amount State Farm would pay on our claim. We had had the 1/2 roof replaced. Because we were in the process of selling our house (there was a for sale sign in the front yard when the adjuster was there), many of my files were packed and in storage; others I had shredded because we were selling the house. Without proof that we weren't liars, State Farm refused to honor the entire claim. We spoke both with our agent and the corporate office. We questioned how their adjuster, without even going over to that section of the roof, could tell if the roof was 8 or 9 years old. It didn't matter to them.
In the future, any time we have an adjuster come to view our property, we will pay to have an expert there to make sure what the adjuster is doing, what he sees and document for us what is reasonable. We can no longer trust that State Farm is handling our claims with integrity. It's become obvious to us that integrity is not a State Farm corporate value.

This past week I discovered a water leak under my house. I immediately called a plumber and he informed me that the drain line inside the wall for my kitchen sink was leaking. I called State Farm to file a claim under my homeowner's policy. They recommended that I contact a company to start procedures for drying the water from the affected area. I called ServPro and they came out the same day and set up their equipment. The next day I received a call from State Farm informing me that they would not cover water damage of mold that had been occurring over a period of time. State Farm would be sending an inspector to assess the situation and determine if they would honor my claim.
The State Farm inspector arrived and looked everything over and then informed me that State Farm would not do anything since their policy only covers "instantaneous water damage" i.e. a pipe bursting. The inspector told me that is was unfortunate since she could not see how I could have known about the leak inside the wall until it presented itself as a water leak under the house. I realize that every company has its policies and practices, and things are what they are, but after being a customer of State Farm for over forty years, paying premiums for Life Insurance for my wife and myself and insuring all of our automobiles and our home over that time span, words cannot express how very disappointed I am with this determination. I am a 62 year old senior with failing health. I had a water damage claim after a large branch fell off a pine tree, knocking a large hole in the roof of a garage at my mountain home where I had many antiques and family heirlooms stored. I lost many wonderful antique pieces that were my mother's who died in 2013. The "claim owner" had me at first provide replacement comparables for my 140+ items, then told me that wasn't good enough, that I had to provide "sold" comparables for those items, which took me days to do. Then they said that wasn't good enough, that I needed to have all of it appraised, which I then provided the appraisal. Now, they have switched me to an independent adjuster who has harassed me endlessly, and was rude beyond measure. Even questioning why I didn't have "ordinary garage stuff" in my garage, and lambasting me for storing antiques in my garage.
He intimated I was trying to make up the claim, when it was their adjuster who found the hole in the garage roof while doing a hail inspection to begin with. I have never been treated so poorly in my many years in business. Ironically I am a personal property appraiser who has worked with State Farm and other insurance companies throughout my career, and can't believe they have sunk to such a terrible low of treating their customers this way. I filed the claim on May 1, 2015, and still as of this day have not resolved it or received payment for the antiques I lost. I have now switched insurance companies, and will never go back to State Farm. Very disappointed in their "service"!

I informed them that I did not have the extra money out of pocket, that I would need time to save. Guess what? They sent someone out who claimed that because of my roof needing repairs that I was neglecting my home and they would be canceling my policy. I called and informed them that I have an open claim to have the roof fixed. They didn't care, claimed that the primarily insure auto and if I reconsidered having them to insure my car it would look better for me.
Went in to speak with the "Agent", he claimed he has enough money to have my roof repaired and not to worry. He would even refer me to a friend of his at the bank for a home equity loan! Really! I have been a State Farm customer for over 25 years. I have always had all my insurance (2 homeowners policies, 3 cars, 2 ATV's and a motorcycle) coverages with them. For this loyalty, they have provided me nothing but hassles and issues at the highest rates possible. I had the unfortunate need to file a claim in January for water damage from my upstairs basement. They would only cover the bare minimum and wouldn't fix the root cause of the problem. Now, due to a bad windstorm, I have suffered severe damage to my roof. After I contacted a certified professional roofer to do an audit and inspection, State Farm sent out their own "specialist". After this guy walked around my roof for about 20 minutes, he claimed none of the damage was a result of the storms. When I showed him a copy of the certified report from the expert, he still wouldn't agree with it.
This "specialist" wasn't even a certified roofer. He was a "restoration specialist". He wouldn't even answer me when I asked him what made him more qualified than the certified licensed roofer. They have ZERO loyalty towards their customers and had no problem taking my money for 25 years. So I went and found other coverage and found better coverage with Liberty Mutual for my autos, ATVs and motorcycle for $2000 less per year. When I called to cancel my coverage, they didn't even care, and didn't ask why I was leaving them for my auto coverage or offer to lower my rates to match Liberty Mutual. State Farm was dishonest and doesn't care about their customers. I would recommend that everyone STAY AWAY from State Farm, and if you are a customer, check out other companies where you will get better coverage at less rates. State Farm will do nothing to protect you when you need them.

Our sump pump float switch failed on us, I noticed this at 11:30pm one night when I went into our finished basement and stepped in water. After 13 hours of my wife and myself vacuuming out water and trying to dry out the basement about 150 gallons plus. We contacted State Farm, realizing our loss may be more significant than our deductible, and made a claim. During the phone conversation the State Farm representative went through what our deductible would be then proceeded to tell us who to contact and who they use in our area for insurance claims. There was never any mention of this not being covered or the possibility of it not being covered. We proceeded to get Servpro out to continue with the cleanup and drying of the basement. The state farm rep we had contacted told us an agent would be in contact with us within 48 hours.
After 3 days of waiting I called to find out what is going on and got a voicemail, I left a message and now we are on day 4 of Servpro being out doing the drying. They finally called me back to inform me that we aren't covered for sump pump damage. I told them that their state farm rep had led me to believe we are and they did not get back to us like they said they would so now I am incurring costs from Servpro, when if I had known we weren’t covered I could of spent $500 on buying fans to finish drying out our basement instead of the $3500 we got charged.
State Farm’s miscommunication and lack of following their own policies cost us thousands of dollars. I have been fighting with them for a couple of weeks not climbing the ladder each time expressing my dissatisfaction for their poor response. Mind you I had to call them to find out what was going on. Funny thing is I came to this page and the second complaint I read was about them not getting back to them within 48 hours. My husband and I purchased our first home in January of 2017, I have been a life long State Farm customer with my auto insurance so I applied for a homeowner's insurance policy as I had always thought State Farm to be reliable and fair, specifically the agency I dealt with The Becky Thompson Agency. We were approved for our policy and the closing on our home went smoothly. In April of 2017 I called to get my husband a quote on car insurance and was told that our homeowner's was cancelled back in January "are you aware of this?", which we certainly were not! Turns out they cancelled our policy due to the condition of the barn behind our house (which as an aside we are going to be demolishing anyways) and our insurance ended in March of 2017. We received no notification of this cancellation, nor did our mortgage company. No letters were sent nor were any calls made.
In early April we had a massive windstorm that caused damage to many homes surrounding us, all the while we had no insurance! I fully understand that State Farm is within their rights to cancel the policy within 60 days, that is their choice. My complaint lies with the lack of notification. I have filed a complaint with NYS on this matter but was sent a phony letter that State Farm allegedly sent us. State Farm also claims to have notified our mortgage company but find that difficult to believe as the mortgage company would have contacted us to demand we obtain coverage. Our agent at State Farm actually admitted we were not notified! I had been with State Farm for over 20 years for vehicle insurance and never had an issue. So when I purchased my first home naturally I went with them for insurance. 1 year after I moved in there was some "storm damage". This damage (flooding) claim went on for 2 years before they were able to actually figure out the cause of the damage. During 2 years it wound up going into 3 claims, instead of reopening the same one, as they were all related. It was actually due to a contractor, who incorrectly installed some windows (part of the house is in the side of a mountain). State Farm said they would go after him to regain their money, and they would just take care of us. I was fairly happy with them, other than having to sometimes "fight" for them to take care of the issue (standard for insurance paying out).
My agent became "Cold" to us during the process of figuring out all the issues; So we switched agents (after 17 years with him). Being a long time customer meant nothing to him. Then I called and ask a question after hours one day and they opened a claim with NO payout, and dropped me. I didn't ask for a claim, it was a question as to if they covered something!!! I didn't need a claim to be opened. Due to this I had "too many claims in a 5 year period" and would not allow me to renew with them. I've had to switch to another company. But due to being dropped from an insurance company I'm now considered "High Risk" so my insurance cost went WAY up.
I had to switch my vehicle insurance to the other company in order to get a discount that would keep the cost form going to high. I guess 20 years of paying and not having a major claim for vehicle, means NOTHING to them when it comes to homeowners. Customer loyalty is NOTHING to State Farm. I do not recommend them any more.

I have been loyal to the same State Farm Representative for 20-25 years. He provided excellent service until now, so I had grown to trust his advice without question. About a year ago, we were advised that our home was in a flood zone, and that our mortgage company, Wells Fargo, required flood insurance or they would force it upon us. I immediately called our agent and requested a quote. I didn't ask advice - I explained the letter and asked for a quote.
He immediately said we don't need flood insurance and basically said that Wells Fargo was running a scam and "I can't tell you how many customers have called me about this. They're trying to do it to everyone." He advised me that they could not force flood insurance without providing me the flood certification that says we're in a flood zone and told me to call them and demand that. He insinuated that they wouldn't be able to provide it, so this would all go away. I called, they said they'd investigate and send findings, they never did, and I figured it was dropped.
In very late July, my mortgage statement arrived and included an additional escrow amount of $371.** for flood insurance. I immediately called the State farm office in a panic, and the next day received a voice mail from my agent's assistant saying that they were both going on vacation in August, wouldn't be available for about a month, and to please call them back then if I still had questions.
Not willing to sit on this for a month, I contacted my township supervisor, my federal congressman, FEMA, etc. Over the next six months, I spent countless hours on phone calls, sending papers back and forth, arguing with people, etc. At the end of all of this, Wells Fargo still determined that I needed flood insurance because a small corner of the property is in a flood zone. (You're only required to have insurance if the structure is in the flood zone, so that battle rages on.)
When we got Wells Fargo's denial letter in February, I called our agent again, to see if he could come back into the mix and help us in any way. On that phone call, almost a year after he told me we didn't need insurance, Wells Fargo had to supply the cert, etc., he said, "Well, let me run the cert. It only takes five minutes and costs six dollars." He ran the cert and e-mailed me that we are, in fact, in a flood zone, and attached a quote.
Long story not worth typing, but everyone, including FEMA, says we're above flood elevation, so we'll get a study done, FEMA will amend the map, and they'll declare us outside the flood zone. The thing is, had our agent not given us such horrible advice and then pretty abandoned us when it escalated, we would have done this study a year ago and not wasted $3000 in flood insurance premiums that are now unrecoverable.
The elevation study will cost us about $2000, but obviously, State Farm either has surveyors on staff or retains a service for much less cost. I laid out my frustrations to the agent and asked, if, at the very least, State Farm would have the survey done for us. He declined. Obviously, we're switching insurance companies as soon as the elevation study is filed, and I will investigate at that time to see if we have any recourse with State Farm.

One claim was due to a catastrophic event, a tornado, and the other claim was when a tree fell on our steel fence. I feel foolish that I stayed with State Farm out of loyalty all these years only to find out that the company does not extend that same loyalty to its customers.

I've stayed with State Farm since I was 18 and had my own vehicle to insure. I've never had an at-fault accident and had to file a claim against my own policy, I am now 34. During the summer of 2016, a negligent neighbor scratched the passenger side doors of my 4-door truck roughly 12 times. I went to my local agent and reported it in September 2016, provided all the information I had on the neighbor (name/address/make & model of vehicle/license plate) and started the claim, they were going to pursue the at-fault person for the damages.
I promptly received a call, requesting more detail about the damage/time frame. Then kept getting calls every 2 weeks, stating that the neighbor was not responding to mail or phone contact. It seemed he was not insured, so it sounded like a slam dunk for my uninsured motorist policy ($200 deductible vs my Collision deductible of $500). I was repeatedly urged to have my vehicle repaired at the collision deductible, and that I would be refunded the difference once the Uninsured motorist policy was approved. I declined, stating I would rather wait and just pay the $200 deductible.
This was in early December 2016. State Farm claims department did not contact me from then until today, February 8, 2017. Today, they now say they don't have enough proof to show that he was the one who damaged my vehicle. NOW they finally ask for me to send them pictures of the damage to my vehicle, the neighbor has since sold/traded the at-fault vehicle... I'm done with State Farm, today I canceled my over-priced life insurance policy with them. The agent had the audacity to say "If you cancel your life insurance policy, your auto insurance will go up about $5/month." I simply replied, "That's fine, I'll be here next month to cancel it as well."

I have been a loyal home and auto policyholder with State Farm for over 35 YEARS and because I had 2 large claims (need a new roof and water damage due to an overflowing toilet), the underwriters canceled my policy. I have paid out a hell of a lot more to State Farm than they have paid me for my 2 claims and I'm absolutely disgusted that they canceled my policy. Bottom line, loyalty means nothing. The company and you will get insurance as long as you don't have claims. They should be ASHAMED!!!

My family was diagnosed with black mold in the home, they reported it to the insurance company. The company had them still stay in the house as they continued their "proper protocol". Meanwhile my mother-in-law who should not have been exposed to this was unfortunately in this process she had passed away. My sister advised the insurance company it's more cost-effective to put them in a rental home they instead thought it would be better in a hotel (which later tended to cost more). They had my sister going back and forth and are now kicking them out of the hotel while the house has no running water and the construction will have to be done with a family in the home... no stable bathroom. Please explain how this is humane? I am going to reach out to whomever I must, this is not right.

First of all, let me say that if I could give Eric ** 0 or -0 stars, that's what I would've rated him & his business practices. I know this is lengthy, but please continue reading-it could save you a lot of money & stress in the end. If I can help even one person out there looking for an agent to not get completely swindled, that's why I am writing this review. I have known Eric half my life, my family had insurance with him a long time. I started my own policies with him as soon as I was old enough. So here we are, all this time later and I have severed ties with his office & now preparing to leave State Farm.
Now, we all know that insurance is a scam. We pay out tons of money every month most of us will never even benefit from. So it already hurts a little but then to have your agent scam you as well... that's a real fun thing to deal with. Eric is unethical, dishonest and greedy. He is a liar & a scam artist & will literally lie through his teeth to get what is best for him. He will tell you that he only has your best interest at heart as the valued customer but when he makes a mistake on your policy (admits it to you but won't when being investigated), then takes no responsibility for his actions & tells you that's the way it goes sometimes, that sucks.
We bought a policy through him, an HO6 for a townhouse/condo. Over the phone, we briefly went over coverage with his staff. Then, less than a year later-we get hammered with a hailstorm! We call in, the girls in his office tell us that they don't cover that damage first of all and then eventually tell us that we're only covered for $1,000 of it and there is no other options. We find out that they underinsured us and didn't even know the policy well enough to offer us sufficient coverage.
I talked to Eric & he personally told me that HE did the same thing to a lady in highlands ranch, co and that she's having to pay out $10,000 and she's only covered for $1,000 like we are, so we should be happy. And then laughed it off, He said "that was my bad, that was my bad, l'll admit that, but there's nothing that can be done. You just have to deal with it." If the lady from highlands ranch or someone who knows her is reading this, please tell her to go after Eric for errors & omissions. He should have to pay out for his mistake.
Unfortunately, State Farm doesn't mind dishonest, lying snakes representing them, so they backed him up in my case, but if someone else comes forward, they might listen! I spent months & countless hours talking to different depts at State Farm, even corporate, just to be treated with such disregard and disrespect to not even be called when they were doing their final "investigation." Well of course they're not going to backdate & pay out what they should, that affects their pocketbooks as well. But to have an agent who is so immoral & unethical representing them & then to stand behind his fraudulent actions, it's disgusting!
Eric ** will blame you for being underinsured, as he did me. As he told me- "it's your responsibility as the customer to know your insurance policy." Whereas that may be true, I didn't go to school to be educated on insurance like you did Eric & I don't get paid to know about insurance, You do. So do it right and don't blame the consumer who pays you good money to know your crap! Unfortunately, this is not the only time Eric has screwed up on our policies. That one costs us thousands which thankfully he had to reimburse because he got caught! His office gave us wrong information (gee, does that sound familiar?) & only because his staff member had documented it, did he have to pay it back to us. Otherwise he said he wouldn't have.
So that's Eric ** summed up, everyone. Greedy, lying, dishonest, immoral, unethical & last but not least, doesn't do the right thing even when he knows he messed up! You don't want to have coverage with him, because when your day comes (and it will) for him to have your back, he won't be there. In fact, he will be the guy lying and taking all your money and denying he even knows you. How sad!

I planned to have coverage in 2017 but after moving into a new house in 2016 that had an issue with a leaking toilet that caused some water damage at a total loss amount of under $4K. December 28th, get a letter from State Farm informing us they will not extend coverage and dropped us like a bag of rocks. Adding the letter and claim amount. We had a pipe burst and we fixed it and mitigated the problem ourselves but made the mistake of telling State Farm about it so curiously enough they counted it as a claim. Also, our representative in Knightdale NC Brian ** was the worst representative we have ever had... Anywhere... With anyone. We were with State Farm for 4 years and 3 in Indianapolis. Our rep there was amazing and his name was Andy **. But Brian ** and his office were like dealing with the VA in that they didn't respond, were slow to advise, and rarely actually responded to emails or calls. He was garbage to say the least.

We experienced a dirty water flood that damaged our entire kitchen, downstairs bathroom, bedroom, laundry room and part of the living room. The entire kitchen was demolished along with 2 feet high of drywall removed and flooring removed in all affected rooms. We were given a hotel for 4 days during the demolition and then told we could move back in.
The reason for the review is the following. State Farm assessed the damage at roughly 15k below the actual cost that any contractor would be willing to do the work for. Each contractor stated that they would not even try to negotiate with State Farm when the cost is not anywhere near the actual cost of repair. State Farm sent us a check for the assessed amount for us to self contract. We submitted the check to our credit union and began to purchase cabinets, fixtures and other various items that had multiple week delivery times. Our credit union called us to inform that the check was declined and we were now overdrawn $5,000. The process for getting the check from State Farm to us, then to our mortgage lender and back into our credit union account took a total of 3 weeks.
We were informed that our bank account was negative 5k on 12/23/16 (Friday before Christmas weekend). State Farm was involved in a 3 way conversation between the credit union and myself. The State Farm rep, James **, proved both ignorance and arrogance by refusing to escalate the assistance to their shared financial department. Instead, the State Farm rep escalated the phone call into an argument and refused to allow us to speak to a supervisor. Instead, James insisted that the protocol would be to issue another check (another 3 week process). Meanwhile, we have no money in our account and even when we do get paid, we will have to pay back the overdraft.
We tried calling multiple people to try and get a better idea of what else we could do. State Farm eventually informed us that the check did not clear because there were two claims paid on the same check number for the exact same amount. The second claim was an auto claim. By the time they found out what the problem was, anyone who could authorize an overnight check directly to us had already left for the weekend and would not return until Tuesday, Dec.27th. The plan we were given was to try to get financial to try and bypass our lender signature via a phone call to them authorizing the check. Still, we will have a 10 day waiting period for the check to clear and the likeliness that our credit union will clear part of the amount to zero out our overdrawn account does not seem likely.
My assessment is that had the original rep. James ** had contacted the shared financial department, we would have had enough time to make all necessary calls to get a wire transfer resolution before the holidays and correct the mistake. As of today, Saturday, 24th (Christmas Eve). We are searching for any available loose change so that we can pay for gas and local travel to visit family tonight. I understand that mistakes happen. However, the problem could not even be rectified because of the amount of uneducated people that shelter complaints for the people at State Farm who should really be driving the company. I don't think this will result in legal action against State Farm. But, once we are caught up from the financial burden they have caused, we will be dropping them as our insurance provider and seeking another. The way things are going, I would be surprised if our house is back in order by March of 2017.

I am like many others on this thread who are long time customers of State Farm. I have had many cars and several home insured with them throughout the over 45 year I have been with them. I never had a claim for any of my vehicles or homes. Now that I am older I decided to sell my home and with the proceeds I was able to buy a nice mobile home in a 55 and over park. This home was in excellent condition but is a older home built in 1976. My agent was great and signed me up for the new policy that took effect when I moved it.
Much to my surprise and the agents who received a notice that the new policy was being canceled because they wanted to know more about the furnace and water heater. They gave me one week to find a contractor to re-inspect these two items and write a letter that they were safe and not a fire hazard. Then a week later they came back now wanting proof that the screen in porch was "Free Standing" and not attached to the trailer.
They gave us a few days to do this. The agent came and crawled under the trailer and took pictures and proved that it was in fact "Free Standing". We were sure this going to give them the information they wanted. NO not at all. They came back and gave us 2 days to do the whole thing over again stating the letter from the contractor did not specifically say the pipes were not corroded and that they needed more proof on the construction of the screened porch. Needless to say this could not happen in two days. My agent is so mad at them they are going give all my information to a friend who works for Farmers Insurance. When I find out if they will insure me then I will also transfer my car. I am so done with State Farm. :(

I have had insurance with State Farm (homeowner's and automobile) for over 37 years. Last month, I got a letter stating that they were not renewing my homeowner's insurance because I have had three claims in under ten years - one was theft from a car nine years ago (which we did not receive compensation for), and two were the result of house damage related to weather issues (roof damage due to hail and wiring damage due to a lightning strike) in 2014 and 2016 respectively.
I appealed the non-renewal, and I was just told today that my appeal was denied. In the denial letter it states that the average homeowner has a loss every 15-25 years, and we have exceeded that (as mentioned above). People that I know have told me similar stories over the years, but I had not experienced any problems with State Farm so I never changed companies. I should have seen the potential for problems with them when I got a letter a couple of years ago stating the car dealership was fixing too many chips in my windshields. The car dealership asked for a copy of the letter to put in their "ridiculous file". Maybe their insurance is great... unless you need to file a claim.

The agent never came out to take picture, they asked for the deductible upfront. They hired a cleanup crew and there was over 20, thousand in damage. They had painter that hired Moore restoration. They did not finish the job. It looked like a two year old drips paint peeling. They left the job site to do other jobs. State Farm refused to replaced the appliance and furniture after they had us go price it then sent them a bill/ they sent 4 adjusters out. The health board of Indiana said the walls need to be replaced and everything thrown away.
State Farm gave Moore the money without coming to check the work. The house has not been in right condition for two years, I'm disabled and ignore my mom a senior. We cannot afford to get anyone fixed so we must leave the home the way it is, my mom has no bed. My bed is broken. No dishwasher, they made use our old washer dryer and stove. They hired attorney to come after us.
This is just a few pictures. They painted the wrong color, put in the wrong floor got paint on the ceiling. We estimate he has paid at least $60,000.00+ in homeowners' premiums over those years. In the last 10 years he has had 4 claims which cost this company less than $12,000.00. 3 of those claims were due to Oklahoma weather and winds (like we can control that). They also count 2 claims against him that they didn't pay 1 cent on!
Last month they refused to renew his policy because of "Too many claims"! WHAT IS INSURANCE FOR!!! You would have to really look hard to find this. Letter stated no real reason just it was up.
I have had 1 small $1,700 claim in 11 years. So the reason the agent gave me was my homes value is more than when I bought it. Well I've tried selling my home twice in the past 2 years for less than what I paid and never got any interest. He was by far the worst representation of how to treat another human being let alone a paying customer. I expect the CEO of State Farm to personally reach out to me with an apology and explanation about the practices that resulted in selecting and training this person to interact with customers. After the Adjuster inspected our roof for hail damage, he explained that while our roof had visible damage and offered his opinion of the cause.
He said, the damage he observed was most likely not caused by hail. In other cases, similar damage was caused by contractors walking on the roof, someone scraping lichens off the roof, or has poor workmanship during the roof installation. His comments insinuated that our contractors caused the damage or that we walked on the roof and caused the damage. He said that it is unlikely lichens since we don't have tall enough trees. I tried to ask him how he decided that it was the contractor or us that caused the damage. To me, he insinuated that we hired a poor contractor or damaged the roof on our own. A investigator came out that week and took numerous pictures and measurements. I was told a Structural Engineer would also need to come out and do an evaluation. He came a week, on a Monday, following the event. He told me State Farm would have his verbal report in the next day or 2 and his written within the week. I attempted to follow up online with my claim. That has not been updated since the first week. I called the structural engineer once a week for 2 weeks. He never returned my phone calls. I called my agent again this past Friday. It's been 5 weeks since the claim was made.
I'm suppose to find out today if they're going to help me with repairs. Their customer service has been lax and haphazard. The claim site has not been updated, the State Farm investigator has been abrupt and not forthcoming with updates. My house is listed for sale and the earthquake damage has lessened the value. My family and I have been fighting with State Farm since June 7 about our roof claim. I have had the same 2 insurance adjusters to my home 4 times in 3 months. Our home is unlivable, due to black mold, which is caused from the roof leaking in multiple places. We have an estimate for the roof for $8300, an estimate for mold removal for $4800. And State Farm has only given us $3500. They said the roof ISN'T leaking, there's only one shingle out of place, and the claim is now closed. We are now renting a trailer 11 miles from home, which took 3 months to get. Before that, we were living back and forth between a tent in our front yard, hotels, and friends and families' couches. Our 14-year-old son fell in April and fractured his hip. Black mold causes Myosotis, weakened bones.
Our 16-year-old daughter is in remission of stage IV Burkitt's Lymphoma cancer, which is caused from Mono, and a weakened immune system (very possibly from the black mold). We need justice. This is wrong. In February 2010, we had a claim with State Farm, because our bedroom carpet and corner wall was wet. They said it was where the snow was melting and leaking under the shingles. We had to replace carpet, drywall, and insulation. It's doing the same thing again. State Farm is trying to get me for insurance neglect (fraud), saying it was NEVER repaired. All they have to do is tear into the drywall. They'll see it's different insulation, drywall, etc. They just don't want to pay. The center walls, around the AC unit and hot water tank are all needing replaced, due to the leaking. If it had been fixed 6 years ago, it would have never been this bad. And my family wouldn't be so sick.

My agent Jim ** of Greensboro, NC was disrespectful and after 31 yrs just ask me did I want to cancel!! And I did!!! He did not seem to care. I guess business with me for 31 yrs and living in a mobile home did not mean anything to him. Have had State Farm for 30 plus years. Home Insurance: Went to file a claim when First Energy's transformer was not maintained and a large limb fell on the line coming out of it creating short circuits throughout our home and damaging our stove, fridge and garage door opener. The agent said it would be in our best interest not to file as State Farm would raise our rates. Auto: Bought a new car and our insurance went up a whopping $80.00 per month for a mere 4 door sedan. BILLING! Due to their insurance tactics, we ended our coverage and found way better rates with same coverage from various companies. Someone at their office didn't cancel our insurance when our new insurance (other company) started and they billed us for an additional month. They deducted directly out of our account but WOULD NOT put it directly back in and it was 2 weeks before they sent our money that didn't belong to them.

The furnace and HVAC company came out and gave me a price to clean and repair, also clean the ducts. After paying on this house for over 7 years State Farm like a bad neighbor refused to help in any way. They said if it had been a raccoon, possum, rat or other animal they would cover it. The inside adjuster is great with me, but Ben from State Farm couldn't see where the leak was coming from. He then says "till you know where I'm red flagging your claim due to a prior renter water loss basement flood!" Really.
I'm a renter who carries renters insurance for that reason, they take the money, so he kept on discriminating a prior water loss and put it under investigation. I think he's as well racist cause him and my Landlord were fine but I'm the insured, how am I suppose to know where the leak is coming from? Isn't it their job to send out a professional? Then he says "you're our insured, you're our priority, our priority turned into find out what cause us (There's visible water damage)." Until cause is known???? What the hell you're smoking? After a catastrophic storm in Ohio and several other states we had damage to 2 apt. roofs. We called immediately to file a claim after the roofer told us about the damage and cost. We never heard from State Farm so we called our agent who then called the person handling the claim. We finally heard from them about a week after filing the claim. The adjuster then called the next day and said it would be 2 more weeks before he could make it to our location. After the inspection the adjuster said they only would pay for 1/2 the roof because the damage had to be visual, like roofing missing. Part of the roof was missing but the other section had sections that was raised up in the air and when you pulled up on the sections it showed they was not attached to the building.
It was like they was just laying on the building and had been pulled away from the wood. He said that if he could not see visual damage they would not pay. The roofer told him that if it was not fixed that the next wind would rip it off. The adjuster did not care to even take a closer look but went on his way and said what he says is what he will claim. We have called the overseeing agent in another state and have not been able to reach him nor have we received a call from him. The roofer said we should not let this pass because there is a problem with the total roof. The adjuster has called me already and said he will issue a check for the amount he said and will not wait til we discuss it with the other agent. This adjuster acts as if he is God and makes the last decision so we will see what happens.

State Farm put my family through years of stress. After Storm Sandy blew huge trees onto my house, crashing into our kitchen, a bedroom and a bathroom leaving so much damage inside and out, we did what we were suppose to. Called the next day to put in our claim, took pictures of all the damage we could find and waited for State Farm to come do their inspection. State Farm thought $20,000 was fair. Knowing that amount was a ridiculous amount to repair everything, we had to hire others to help us. We had 3 different people go through our home to do estimates for the repairs. All three estimates came in well over $100.000. Even the people that came in to inspect my home for a state grant that I applied for found that the damage they would repair was extremely higher.
Keep in mind a state grant will only make repairs to make your house livable. For example: Sandy destroyed our deck. The grant would only pay to put cement stairs out the doors, instead of replacing the deck. Still, to just make my house livable the state grant decided the repairs would cost $70,000. It took my family, Adjusters, Appraisers and Lawyers three years to come to a conclusion. Exhausted, we ended up settling for way less than even our lowest estimate. We had to pay the adjusters, the appraisers and the lawyers, but without them we would have been stuck with the initial amount State Farm wanted to give us. We settled with State Farm and returned the grant money. State Farm has been our insurance company for over 15 years. We had one claim and that was Storm Sandy! It has been an awful and outrageous experience and I'm glad that part is finally over. We are still repairing our home and it’s been almost 4 years!

I was a customer of State Farm for over 52 years. My auto insurance went up twice last year, the last time $10.00 per month or $120 years. I have not had any claims and when I asked my agent about the discounts I received which are not broken down monetarily on my bill, he could not tell me. I then began to search for another company. In April I called State Farm to cancel my insurance on both of my autos and my homeowner insurance. I was due a 1 month refund on the auto and a 6 month refund on my homeowners. I received the checks for the auto last week after several calls to State Farm customer service. I called today to inquire about my homeowners refund and after talking with an inept person, was transferred to a supervisor (?).
I was told that they could see where I had called in April to cancel as of May 2 and had made several other calls since that time, that I was told my homeowners cancellation was in line to be reviewed by the underwriters department on July 15th and I would get an answer then. What answer! I want my check. They are not paying me interest. I asked why it took so long and they said that they take them as they come in and they are behind. So it has taken over two months to be put in for review on July 15th. I guess that proves that State Farm has a lot of claims to review and are not in any hurry to refund money due to me. I have never been treated so rudely by a company in my life. We had the same agent for over 50 years until he retired. He cared about his customers.
The agent that I had could not answer why my insurance went up other than that I live in Maryland and Maryland has a lot of claims, although not from me. I asked how the discounts were figured out and exactly what each was, not a total. He could not tell me. He said State Farm does not share that information with their agents. The last I heard from him through the secretary was that he could not do anything for me unless I lowered my coverage. What about all the advertisement about Discount Double Check that could save me over $400.00? I am so disappointed in State Farm. Not only for myself, but for my entire family who I steered to State Farm. What a way to treat their customers.
I have filed a claim with Maryland State Insurance Commissioner about the rate hikes and was told that State Farm put in two request for rate increases, one in November of 2015 which was approved and one in December of 2015 which had not been approved when I received my bill in March of 2016. I was told that State Farm could charge the new rate in hopes that it would be approved. I asked how I would know if it was not and was told that State Farm would notify me and refund any overcharge. Fat chance.

My husband has had State Farm Insurance for 37 years and never looked elsewhere for insurance in those 37 years. We have had Renters, medical, our homeowners insurance and our vehicles and our 4 children's vehicles when they became 16 covered by State Farm over the last 37 years. We also had a life insurance policy on me. May 2015 we had a wind storm that blew off part of our roof. We made a claim and had the roof replaced and paid with our own money to have gutters replaced. We had a 1,100 deductible. In September 2015 our house caught on fire. It was an electrical fire in the attic and luckily we came home and called 911 and so it was not a total loss. The house was repaired and finished in December. In January 2016 my husband was diagnosed with a rare incurable neuromuscular disease. He had to go on disability.
It was devastating to us and difficult to deal with the uncertainty of what the future held for us. Then the stress added to us when State Farm dropped our homeowners insurance in March 2016 and we had 30 days to find new insurance. The stress of being turned down by insurance companies over and over again because of claims that we had no control over was devastating as well. We did finally find insurance but because of the disease my husband has and what we went through because of State Farm we decided to sell our home and move in with our son. Then to top it off State Farm raised our car insurance because we no longer had homeowners insurance with them. We changed car insurance to another company and it saved us some money.
We paid monthly for our State Farm insurance and when we added vehicles we always had to pay in advance but when we got a refund from State Farm it wasn't but 70 some dollars and we were told by our agent that we skipped months but that didn't make sense because our payment was automatically pulled out of our checking account every month. Every time I see a State Farm insurance company commercial I get so angry and upset all over again. I have been told over over again by other people that is what all insurance companies do. I can't understand how they can get away with putting people through the stuff we have been through. And then they lie in their commercials. This should be against the law. I realize State Farm didn't cause my husband's disease but his disease gets worse because of stress so he was worse dealing with the stress State Farm caused.

April 28, 2014, our house was hit by a tornado, which torn off of our roof, lifted the same corner of our house 3 inches, and rain poured for days (even though we tried to keep tarps on it). Long story short, they fixed the roof ($7000) and paid for the contents destroyed by the incoming rain in our master closet. Then their claws came out. What a week ago had been called a tornado, now they started referring to it as a "wind event." Their engineer claimed our house was settling that's why it's not level. When does a house settle upwards 3 inches? They refused to discuss it. The entire house is level and plumb except the corner of the house where the roof tore off! Also, all the water that came into our house damaged the wiring, making our electricity surge randomly, which in turn has caused most of our appliances to burn up. Electrician said our house is a fire waiting to happen.
State Farm apparently "owns" most of the state of Tennessee. We never found a single contractor who would even come out to give us estimates on repairs when they found out our insurance was State Farm. They want to keep their options open for working for State Farm in the future. We finally found one engineer who would come out to give us his opinion. He agreed with us in person but later during depositions (yes, we sued State Farm), being less experienced than the expert State Farm uses regularly, our engineer was considered "less believable."
We were told that if we went to court, the jury would most likely believe the State Farm expert over our expert. We ended up settling with State Farm for pennies. I'm beyond angry and disgusted!!! We have been with State Farm for about 15 years. Small claims on home or cars, they were great but watch out when you have a big claim. They have NO INTENTION of paying anyone other than their own engineers and attorneys. They will figure out a "legal" way of not paying you.

Hello, I am writing to you in regards to a claim I filed for Hail Damage to my car. I live in Nashville, TN - Mt Juliet at the time of the damage. I was in the process of moving on May 10th, 2016 and was unable to park my car in my garage due to a large amount of items in my garage to be hauled off on May 11th, 2016. Of all nights to have to park in the driveway it was the night we had a very bad storm with large jagged hail. This hail was not your average round hail. I stood in my garage watching it pound away at my car.
Because I was moving, I just did a quick look from a distance to see if I had dents. I had quite a few but decided to wait until I had closed my current home and my new home. I closed on my current home on May 20th and my new home. Then I had the task of moving out, moving in, a lot of work. When I finally had a chance to wash my car I then noticed hundreds of paint chips in the hood of my car along with dents. So on the following Monday I call my agent Darian ** (Was Carolyn ** when I moved to the Nashville/Mt. Juliet Area in April of 93). I have comprehensive coverage on my car so it was covered. I took my car to Apple Collection which is where I had taken all of my cars for the past 10-15 years if I was in need of repairs. I dropped it off on Monday June 20th and it is still there due to the adjustor insisting that I have rock damage on the hood.
This is the problem I have with that statement. First of all, if I had already had that much rock damage, I would have already taken my car to be repaired because it is covered. Second, I purchased my car on 1/30/2014. The mileage on my car was 76,000 and today it has 86,000. I drive to work and home (6 Miles one way) on Lebanon Rd. - no highway or expressways. In order to have that much rock damage I would have had to be hit by rocks at least 50% percent of the times I drove and I would think if that many rocks had hit my car I would have one or two times had a busted windshield. My car still has the original windshield with no damage. The third thing is your adjusters are basically calling a long time customer a liar.
This is unacceptable! They have told me I will have to submit another claim for rock damage which I refuse to do (even though it is covered) because the damage to my car is NOT rock damage. I am very disappointed with the service I have received and will be considering changing insurance company after over 25 years with this agency.

We were told by State Farm representatives both on the phone and in person that it could only be repaired, not replaced. (Even before damage was evaluated.) The claim representative took a piece of tile from our yard and found a company he says will make repairs and match the Roof style. I've contacted this company on 3 occasions. They have not answered any of our questions and are not willing to do the repair work. The claim representative has told us that we cannot use the contractor we hired and signed an agreement with. We are in the position of deciding to reroof the whole house or try and find a company who will make repairs. Either way State refuses to cover the damage from the hail.

Here is the problem - I don't have external attachments like a garage or shed. I live in a town home. Also, the entire contents of my home might be worth about 40 to 50k. I only picked one star above because I could not pick none. 29 years as State Farm policyholders and they dropped us! One claim in the first 25 years for under $2,000 (tornado damage). We then went 20+ years without a claim. Then we had 3 claims in less than 5 years, so they dropped us. Was it our fault that we had hail damage? We subsequently paid the additional $1,500 ourselves for the upgrade to a class 4 hail resistant roof. In 5 years since then we haven't had any hail damage (it was inspected), even though thousands of homes in the area had hail damage from 2 hail storms.
The nerve of us for having the temerity to control the weather in such a manner. They cordially accepted our premium payments for 29 years just to drop us as policyholders.
Instead of judging us as having 3 claims in less than 5 years, why didn't they look at it as 4 claims in 29 years? Apparently they have the impression that they should profit from EVERY SINGLE POLICY! The upshot of all this is that the service was stellar for the first 28 years and then went to hell. With the last claim, communication sucked and we were greatly disappointed. Due to this poor service from the State Farm claims department, we were not totally disappointed to get dropped. This is hard to imagine, isn't it.

I contacted State Farm and they told me to get a restoration comp. to clean up the mess, which I did. The claims adjuster did not get out to the home until April 20. I came home one evening to find my basement flooded with water due to freezing pipes that had burst. I stupidly let State Farm contractors handle the repairs of the pipes. Boy was that a mistake. In my opinion, State Farm, or at least the agency I used in South Jersey bordered on being criminals. Insurance companies are so worried about being defrauded, but we as consumers must be MORE concerned about our insurer ripping us off. Here it is 8 years later and the same pipe allegedly fixed by the State Farm contractor cracked in half - NOT from freezing. It was 60 degrees outside. Basement more seriously flooded than before and the cost tremendous. The plumber asked me if a licensed plumber had done the previous work. That's how bad it was. He was surprised it had not cracked years before.
As if that isn't bad enough, the plumber also found that another pipe that should have been fixed was never repaired at all. I would never be in the situation I am in right now if the prior work had been properly done. Now, it's costing me another $1,500 out of pocket plus a very LONG disruption in my life. State Farm has had a steady decline in their customer service. I had very few claims with them in over 42 years. When I needed them they were not there like a good neighbor. They showed up after we had water damage, made a really unprofessional evaluation of the situation. The assessor didn't even look thru the large open hole in the wall. Didn't even bother to evaluate the damage inside the wall. This was all done in my absence and with my wife. I didn't fly home because I thought that I had a great insurance company that I could trust. What a mistake that was; when I came home I found out that the water damage was much more extensive than the assessor had determined - that was just with a courser look at the damage. The damage was so obvious that he could not have been missed.
When I spoke with State Farm on their 1-800 number all I got was a runaround and was told just go ahead and pay for the damage and they would reassess to make determination if State Farm would reimburse. Quite frankly this is a deceptive practice in any legal term. Insurance fraud is clear. However in an instanced like this it seems that it is OK to deceive you as an insured party. This really is a deceptive practice that seems to be the hallmark of State Farm. After fatefully being insured by State Farm for more than 42 years with no complaints it was really offensive to be treated this way - so much so that I gave back their settlement and canceled all of my insurances (house, Car, RV) and removed all investments with State Farm.
What a second rate organization they have morphed into, that is an organization that is no better than the lower rated insurances. Once I canceled the insurance I asked to speak with a customer service manager - after several weeks I finally was grant a call from Sate Farm. I explained what had happened and the attitude was that I should have been grateful for what little they offer and of course if I wanted to submit the repair bill they may decide to pay the claim or not. Again a total lack of concern on their part. What a shame after over 42 years with them and a certificate of guaranty not to be canceled. How foolish of me trusting my family to State Farm. I would not recommend anyone place their trust in State Farm and their services - recommend seeking out a new insurance company. If you're contemplating acquiring their services beware.

My claim experience with State Farm has been a nightmare. I wish I had never left Allstate, whom I was with for over 30 years. Sure, State Farm's rates are cheaper, but they will get you when you submit a claim. In the past when I submitted a homeowner's claim with Allstate, they took care of hiring people to do the repairs and the repairs were taken care of professionally and quickly. State Farm, on the other hand is the Walmart of insurance companies and treats you as if your business does not matter to them.
Bottom line, they cut me a check that will not cover the repairs and they insist that they only cover what appears to be damaged. So, they expect me to find someone that will rebuild the bottom kitchen cabinet boxes only and will replace the countertop. They are giving me actual cash value, not replacement value, which means they don't want to pay for new cabinets because my cabinets were 20 years old. I can't find someone that only wants to rebuild my bottom cabinet boxes and State Farm doesn't arrange for repairs like Allstate does, so I am out of luck?? I have been a customer with State Farm Insurance for 20 years. I have homeowner policy and two vehicles. When Georgia had a hailstorm some years ago, State Farm refused to repair the roof, even after I had an independent roof company to go up on the roof with their "adjustor." The claim was denied and State Farm would only pay minor repairs. My neighbors who had other insurance companies all had their roof fully replaced. So my question to State Farm Insurance company was that the hail hit all these other houses and missed the State Farm houses (there were two other neighbors who also had State Farm). So, here's the problem: They won't replace my roof, yet no other insurance company will pick me up because my roof. Recently, I contacted the Commissioner and still no help.
Now, I have another house related problem which is with my bathroom. I noticed water spots in my den. The water spots are coming from my bathroom and the floors are sinking from water damage. I called the claims department told them what happened. Then an adjustor called me and told me before State Farm would cover any damages, I would have to hire a plumber and even then, they may or may not approve the work! Are you kidding me?
State Farm Insurance company provides no services to policyholders but nickel and dime you to death. I have no had any major claims, yet, they don't send anyone to look at damages for the bathroom and only will take their adjustor's advice. Well, their adjusters work for them and how do we know that even they are legitimate? I have had it with State Farm's poor performance and lack of customer service. Wish there was a class action suit to sue this company as a sham.

There was leaking water through our roof recently. We reported our claim to the State Farm. They denied our claim is due to that roof problem was not caused by storm or bad weather. How they really can separate the roof damage was not caused by the weather at all. If no bad weather, our roof may have another 10 years life. They also said the roof was repaired before. The contractor did not do sufficient job, which it is another reason for the damage. They won't cover it. Remember, you have to be sure any contractor you hired definitely did perfect job for your home. If not, any trouble occur in the future, then State Farm will not cover the cost if there is anything they think the previous work was not done perfectly. You have to have the ability in predicting future or you are experts in everything about your home if you are the customer in State Farm. Otherwise, no pay will come from your insurance. Sign!

HOMEOWNER BEWARE - NOT A GOOD NEIGHBOR - NOT THERE!!! On January 20, 2016 I lost a sentimental bracelet I purchased with my 2 sisters who recently passed away. The bracelet value in 2005 was $1770.00 - I have all the paperwork and appraisal. I contacted Jordan Phillips' office staff and was told I did not have coverage. I was told I needed to file a police report to say it was stolen from my house, etc... I was so upset. I went to the police department and filed a report. I told them what they told me and that I needed to file a report even though I know the bracelet was not stolen. After several calls the Claims Department finally called and said that was not true. They said I did have coverage up to $5000 with $1000 deductible. Settling down I started the process only to find out that my current appraisal is for 2896.00.
In good faith I went to one of their jewelers as well for an appraisal. I was told their jeweler gave the estimate of $2006.00. I contacted their jeweler and was told State Farm never sent them the appraisal and picture of the bracelet that I provided them. I was told by their jeweler they need to follow a State Farm formula and quote wholesale prices - though I cannot purchase wholesale? I have asked for a manager and a 3rd estimate. So far no call back - but it's only been several weeks now - STILL WAITING. The disappointment is great for me. Not what I expected from State Farm.

I just spoke with ** at the State Farm at 483 Atlantic Avenue who was extremely rude. She was very loud and interrupted me every time I tried to speak and consistently spoke to me in a condescending manner as though I was stupid. I told her that the issue at hand doesn't really matter anymore and I was continuing to speak to explain why and she very hurriedly for at least the fifth time after I told her to stop interrupting me said, "You're right. It doesn't even matter. So I'm sending you the form now. Fill that out and send it back." She also interrupted me when I very calmly and plainly asked her for a receipt confirmation of the charge for February since I was told at the beginning of the call that I owed $26 because I was also being billed for January, which isn't correct. I also wanted a confirmation that I didn't owe anything for January.
** ever-so-gruffly told me after I asked for a bill that they only send bills if something changes and I told her, "Well, that never happened." And she said, "Yeah because you're supposed to be on the automated plan." I said, "Right, but you just told me I was incorrectly billed because I was transferred over to another plan and I was not notified of that and now State Farm is saying I'm late on one of my bills." And then instead of just saying, "You're right. You should have been notified," she instead because she's so intent on proving that she's right and I'm dumb says, "Let me check my records." And that's when I said it doesn't even matter at this point if -- cue interruption, "you're right. It doesn't even matter."
I've never come across someone so condescending, rude and loud. I have done nothing wrong and I'm sitting here being yelled at at work after holding for her for over 10 minutes and having to call back because I was hung up on when State Farm was the one who screwed up. This has truly been the worst experience so far and I already regret signing up only one month in. I'm not sure how or why the authorization form wasn't received, why I wasn't notified of the missing form nor the missing payment if I in fact was late (which I wasn't), nor why I wasn't notified that my account was transferred to another plan and then why I'm getting calls and emails and why ** is still employed and allowed to badger customers, but State Farm is the absolute worst.

I have been a State Farm policyholder (homeowners insurance) for decades, even after my mom passed away and I purchased my "own" home four years ago. Mom and I never made any claims, but my agent and his office are responsive to questions on the few times I've contacted them. Well, here's my issue and out of necessity I will be rating State Farm VERY low because of this. About six weeks ago I was contacted by State Farm as the company's underwriters were authorizing "external" inspections of many homes in the area, so I gave them access to my backyard. Well, I got a call from my agent's office yesterday as the report was finalized, saying that I have nine months to secure an "inspection" of my chimney and that I also have to "add" a handrail to my back steps (there wasn't one installed when I bought the home).
I have no problem installing a handrail, which wouldn't cost that much, but putting me on a "nine-month" directive to have my chimney inspected annoys me to no end! I told my agent that I have spent over $20,000 in repairs and upgrades over the last four years (probably more than most homeowners in that same time frame) and that I don't appreciate the strong-armed tactics. I told her that I replaced my entire heating and AC system and installed a new gas hot-water heater within months of moving in (and replaced plumbing lines with PVC in my basement) and that both my heating system and gas hot-water heater "vent" outside, not through the chimney.
She said the issue in the report was concern over "pointing." As she read the report to me, the underwriter doesn't know "exactly" if I do need to re-point the chimney. Only that he insists I have it inspected in nine months! I told my agent that my money is already allocated for 2016, and a huge liability on my property (which State Farm missed) is the removal of my Bradford pear at curbside (to be followed up by repaving my sidewalk). I am the one taking corrective measures to remove the tree before it splits down the middle or before a large branch drops unexpectedly. The result of which could be harmful to a neighbor's car or property or could seriously injure a pedestrian.
I am surprised that State Farm didn't even bring that up in the report! And repaving my sidewalk will remove any tripping hazard. Anyway, I have been a very proactive homeowner but can only spend about $4,000-$5,000 per year as I live alone and have a mortgage. I diligently try to make repairs as soon as I can, but I don't have a spare $50,000 to make them all at once. I will be looking for another homeowners insurance carrier very soon as I am most disappointed with State Farm.

We went to State Farm that we had several of our vehicles insured under that we left in Illinois. We visited State Farm agent on November 25, 2015 and stated we needed a home renter's insurance policy. They asked us how much would cover our personal belongings and we paid our premium and left. Fast forward to January 27th and the home we are renting had the sump pump break and we had 10" of water in the finished basement. Of course the policy that the home owner had has been wonderful and covered all of the house repairs via the phone.
We called the claims department for our claims on our personal belongings and today the claims adjuster showed up at our house, took pictures of all our belongings that were ruined and then we sat down at our kitchen table to be told "we are sorry but you didn't purchase the sump pump add on to your rental insurance so State Farm will not be covering any of your claim". Really? $12,000 worth of our belongings ruined and you aren't covering a penny? Had we known about said sump pump add on to the policy we would have purchased it. I have made several inquiries into the lack of the agent explaining us, a renter, what we needed in hopes that State Farm pulls through but it's not looking good at this point. So, if you rent anywhere and get insurance, DO NOT USE STATE FARM!!!
They are a huge joke!! I've never in all my life been so disappointed and dissatisfied with insurance in my life!!! We are just renting for a short period while we are waiting for one house to sell and to purchase new home so we have always had real home owners policies before. So fair warning, ask about sump pumps and anything else you can think of before you purchase insurance because State Farm agents and employees won't ask you. So if something happens, you won't be covered!

STAY AWAY! I have been a customer of State Farm for 25 years, and of Ms. **'s for 10 years. A few weeks ago we filed our first homeowners claim in those 25 years when a plumbing leak dripped down to the first floor and caused damage. It has been a NIGHTMARE. It took me hours to get through to claims. Then the adjuster who came clearly did not know what he was doing. Then I emailed them a copy of the plumber's report that clearly stated that to fix the plumbing leak that caused the damage, the bathroom would need to be "torn up." The company denied the claim, other than $300 above my deductible. They said that they would only pay for work that was necessary to fix the leak. I replied that this was all I was asking for, and that the plumber had clearly said that the bathroom would have to be torn up to fix the leak. So, the manager said he would send out a new adjuster and have him meet with the plumber.
The second adjuster said the same thing as the first - that the bathroom would not need to be torn up, even though the plumber was in the room and contradicted him and I had submitted the written report from the plumber. (I had agreed that I would fix the actual plumbing itself because I knew there was an exclusion for plumbing.) Then, the manager called me to say that he did not dispute the fact that the bathroom had to be torn up, but that my policy would not cover that work. If this was the case, why did they send out the second adjuster? Why did he suggest that they would cover such work earlier. The company tried one reason after another to not cover the loss. Unfortunately, Ms. ** was not an adequate advocate for us even after taking our auto and home business for 10 years. There are far cheaper firms and better agents. Since her/their service is so bad, there is no logic in going to this agency, or to State Farm.

After everything was processed they tell me that by the way the underwriters want to inspect my home, fine. Then they deny me one week later because there is tree algae on one side from trees that are no longer there. WHAT? Ok fine, then cancel the car insurance too.
One week later I get alerted from my bank telling me that they paid for the State Farm homeowners policy THAT NEVER EXISTED and removed my existing policy from my mortgage. The car policy still states that it is in force. NOTHING IN WRITING RECEIVED FROM ALLSTATE THAT MY POLICIES WERE CANCELLED and NEVER EXISTED. STATE FARM claims they did not receive the check from the bank yet so I personally have to wait for them to receive it and turn around and issue me a check for which I have to pay back the bank for having paid for a policy that never existed.
The people in the Trumbull office are useless and do nothing. They take your money and then do nothing to rectify any situation. I dodged a bullet as they won't even stand by what they do or take any responsibility. After 11 years with State Farm, and a couple of claims due to hail and wind damage, they refuse to renew my policy because I had to actually use my insurance. After a leak in a drain pipe that runs over the garage SF sent a contractor out to dry the area in the ceiling of the garage and to dry the area of the leak in a storage closet where our ac unit is located. The contractors tore out the carpet and padding in the inside room and tore out the insulation and cut away drywall in the garage and placed cans in both rooms. They came to pick up the fans a few days later and then never came back to fix the hole in my garage ceiling or to replace the carpet padding or carpet in the storage room. SF rep said they would be back out but they never showed up. The claim adjuster undercut the amount it would cost for the repairs by several hundreds of dollars.
5 months later, when my insurance is up for renewal, I get a notice that they will not be renewing my policy since it "does not satisfy" them. After such crappy service and not completing the job by the contractor THEY recommended, I get dismissed. Previous claims were in 2011 due to hail and wind damage-- not like I could help that! Seriously shady activity by a so called reputable company. It's stuff like this that make people hate insurance companies. Pay us on time but don't use us or we'll cancel you. Meanwhile our home was in a hail and wind storm, barely missed by a tornado. Lots of damage, filed a claim! Meanwhile still rehabilitating, no job, didn't know if I could even do my job anymore. My wife is out of work taking care of me and getting to and from doctors and therapy so our claim went undealt with for about two years!
Finally got working and getting to deal with claim. Find out that if you don't handle claim in 2 yrs that they won't pay your full claim (what I paid for FULL COVERAGE). I had lots of issues to deal with because of this accident, mortgage companies, another ins. co., QBE ins., creditors, Oklahoma tax commission, IRS, creditors in court.
All of these ins. co., government, creditors, mortgage co., all worked with me to get through what I owed and got me back on track except for State Farm's claims management dept. They said I was under contract and all I had to do was get a contractor and they would have handled my claim as CONTRACTED. I have had State Farm Insurance for over 25 years, giving them all of my personal business, with no major claims. I recently detected a water leak under my slab and called my agent inquiring about it. She told me that fixing the leak would not be covered but any water damage resulting from the leak would be covered. A couple of weeks later, the water surfaced, damaging my cabinets and drywall. I had the leak fixed and a restoration company came over and assessed the damage. They found water damage in my cabinets as well as my dry walls. They ended up ripping out my cabinets and walls. State Farm's adjusters came out and inspected everything for over 2 hours. They told me they would have a repair estimate soon and a partial check the next week. Instead, the following week they sent a company to dig up the foundation to find out how deep the pipe was.
They later denied the claim stating they don't cover water leaks below the surface! If I had known that from the get go, I would have handled this completely differently. I would have waited until I was ready to replace the cabinets before ripping them out. I have been without a kitchen for over a month! Additionally, I wouldn't have filed a claim. They are now telling me that this is a reported claim (which will affect my premium). I have talked to numerous homeowners and professionals and they have never heard of an insurance company not handling a water leak damage. All of our neighbors have had similar leaks and their insurance companies have paid the claims. After 25 years of loyal business, when I really need my insurance company to pay for damages, they will not back me up! I am extremely frustrated and disappointed!

State Farm denied a very legitimate burglary claim without performing an investigation or any interviews. To solidify an accusation of Fraud, they told me the statutory guidelines had been exceeded. They followed that up by saying the original police report differed from final report. With a garage of over 100 boxes many rummaged through, it was the police that told us it would take time to inventory and to email the final report leaving off quantities and cost of items. It was all there in the report in black and white. We have since investigated them to the extreme and plan the largest slam campaign in State Farm history with several class action lawsuits which will be supervised by a law professor of an Ivy League University. Regular wires will be sent via PM WEB and the other wire companies that will blanket the United States. That is only an appetizer. They committed fraud because the policy owners are 91 yrs.old and one, my dad, now passed on.
They humiliated people that have a flawless record and were ambassadors for several large Washington D.C. international peace groups. When many of them were told we were assured major political help as well. Time to stop cheating people as they regularly do. Look for names like SIU and Carol **, Doug ** seasoned con artist. Proven by the ratio of denials to payoffs divided by total sums of money. In other words they profile the larger claims and ones that are aged. I gave them 2 stars as not all State Farm employees are privy to their financial mishandlings. We are seeking grand jury indictments on the 2 mentioned and one level higher if they knew about the fraud. If not we demand they fire these employees.
What is ultimately so tragic is State Farm was founded on principles and high standards. They are not a stock company and currently not returning profits to policy holders. If you work at State Farm we are offering $1,000 dollar rewards for confidential incriminating evidence but do so only if revealing a criminal aspect. Do not break the law. Currently we are data mining all public social comments from those suspected of fraud or knowledge of it. We know far more yet not revealing more at this time. Please contact us with your case if you want to be part of a winning class action lawsuit. We purchased ** though not releasing till we have cleared it legally.
