I hate the customer service. I love the insurance. I have two premiums with this company and they sent a notice that a monthly payment was not paid when I call customer service. And explained Both of my premiums were pay in full at the time of purchase. Yet the representative says, “I don’t know. Maybe you don’t have enough money in your account for a monthly payment.” What…? Disrespectful.

So upset with Progressive. I took out Auto insurance for myself and my husband plus daughter with a permit. Cost was $1360 for six months. Told them my daughter was sitting her test that month and asked how much extra it would be if she passed. Answer: a few hundred dollars. Took out the policy and paid in full. Daughter got her license. I called them to add her. Couple of days later I received a payment letter for an additional $2,000!!!! Spoke to a supervisor to cancel policy (as competitors are far cheaper) and was told that I would have to pay a short-rate penalty and would only get $540 back. Supervisor absolutely would not see my point of view, spoke to me like I was an idiot and reduced me to tears. Either I lose $820 and find insurance elsewhere or I pay $2000. I would never have taken out the policy if I'd known this would be the cost. Rip-off merchants and totally inflexible staff.

I had Progressive Insurance for about 2-3 years. I enjoyed their rates compared to other companies & it was great at first. At the end of 2024, I was in a minor fender bender. I was at fault & given a warning by the police for following to close. There was no visible damage. The other party wanted to exchange insurance information & I can understand that.
After about 4 months when it was time for my 6 month insurance renewal, my insurance tripled from what I was originally paying. I was shocked. I reached out to progressive & apparently the accident that had happened a few months earlier was filed as a claim. No one from Progressive reached out to me about the claim, especially since the other party filed & got a $10K payout. No one reached out to me, got my side of the story, I didn't get anything done to my car & yet the other party got a payout for pain & suffering, damage to vehicle & also medical bill. Someone from Progressive dropped the ball & I ended up having a higher premium. & I had to walk away from Progressive with no help & finding another insurance provider.
Progressive is a great company, but I wish someone would have followed through with process of making sure they gather information from all parties especially from someone that they are making money off of. If you decide to go with Progressive, just follow through & make sure you stay on top of any claims filed.

(This review is about the insensitive handling of my claim by the claim adjuster). Hello, I was rear-ended on the freeway by a driver who also drove off immediately from the scene of the accident. This resulted in my vehicle being totaled. The incident was in February of 2025 and I did not get a settlement on my vehicle until late June of 2025. The initial amount offered was not anywhere near the current value and was continually being lowered as more and more excuses were being given by the claim adjuster.
Ultimately, the day came for me to sign the lowered acceptance offer and I was to receive a document for a direct bank transfer. Both were promised to me by the same claim adjuster and only the acceptance offer was emailed. When asked why I didn't receive the direct deposit form, the claim adjuster made excuses that the system generates on its on time and will probably be delivered via email on Monday, this all occurred on a Friday. Progressive in my opinion, has lied and deceived me from a fair offer for my damaged vehicle by thousands of dollars. I will never recommend or use Progressive Insurance for my personal insurance carrier. I would pay double the monthly insurance rate before I support an insurance company that treats the victims less than fair.

This is the worst insurance company I've eve had! Beware of the Snap shot device. It killed my battery and made the computer system go completely haywire while I was driving and almost caused an accident with my child in the car. I've never had any problems with my car prior to plugging it in and keep up on all routine maintenance. If you don't believe me just check the internet to see if others have had this problem after using these devices. They are even being sued for this! This company is a complete joke, and no one should ever trust them!

I was hit head on by a drunk driver but my experience with Progressive since the collision has been equally as painful. The adjuster and his supervisor have been unresponsive and completely unreasonable. I have been without my car for over 2 months due to their untimeliness and ridiculous estimates for repairs which has halted any work from moving forward.
It took them weeks to go out for the initial estimate, WEEKS! I got hit head on, like I stated before, yet they do not think the electronics with my safety functions need to be recalibrated... The electronics sitting in the front of the car in the bumper? The drunk driver side swiped my entire side of my car trying to flee the scene but they don't feel like that's related to the accident. When trying to get them to re-evaluate the damages since this is all obviously ridiculous, we get crickets. Even the Manager Joshua John is unhelpful and unresponsive. I wouldn't wish this lack of service and overall experience on my worst enemy. Go anywhere but here! Progressive is the WORST!

We were rear ended in our brand new truck by a driver insured by Progressive. Less than 1000 miles on the odometer. A real kick in the pants. We have pictures, video and the other driver admitted fault. Progressive dragged out the initial process and did not admit fault for 30 days. Once they accepted responsibility they forced me to use their app to upload pictures and videos, which we already submitted weeks ago to the person responsible for our claim. It’s been two weeks since uploading videos and we are still waiting for approval to have the truck repaired.
The person responsible for our claim does not answer the phone or return phone calls. I’m so pissed off at this company. I run a small business with a fleet of vehicles. I’ve dealt with insurance companies many times. I have never had so much trouble dealing with an insurance company. It is so upsetting to have a brand new truck sitting due to the complete lack of any responsibility of this company, due to the fault of another driver. Progressive Insurance is terrible. They should take some of their advertising money and invest it in their staff.
I have Erie Insurance and they have always taken care of business, be it our own vehicles or the other party. Progressive is playing games, probably an attempt to wait this one out hoping we pay ourselves or don’t get the truck fixed, I don’t know what their intent is but it’s not right. Our company will send an adjuster comes out, right away, or they will allow an approved repair shop to submit their own claim. Putting it on the party who is not at fault to use an app is complete nonsense. It should not be on ME to do anything at this point. Progressive should be communicating with us and helping to get this truck repaired. It’s been six weeks since the accident, tens of phone calls and still no approval to proceed with repairs, and it’s impossible to get anyone on the phone who gives a shit or is willing to do their job. A total disgrace. I pity anyone that is hit by a Progressive driver. Screw you Progressive!

Let’s call this what it is: bait and switch—disguised under the thin veil of “market fluctuations” and “environmental factors.” These so-called progressive business tactics are anything but. They lure you in with an appealing, low-cost insurance premium—just enough to get you comfortable—only to blindside you with a massive, unjustified rate hike just six months in.
The excuse? A vague “increase in cost and/or environmental conditions.” Really? Who exactly do they think they’re fooling with this boilerplate nonsense? If nothing about my driving habits, mileage, or location has changed, then this price-gouging is pure opportunism. It's corporate greed hiding behind a façade of professional legitimacy.
What’s most insulting is the assumption that consumers won’t notice—or worse, won’t care. It’s not just misleading, it’s a breach of trust. And once that trust is broken, no flashy commercials or empty apologies can fix it. If you're considering this company, be warned: the “good deal” you’re offered upfront is a trap. Don’t fall for it.

I totaled my vehicle in December. It is now 6 months later and Progressive has not paid off the vehicle to Capital One. I am given rep after rep who supposedly is working on my claim. I asked for a Manager or Supervisor and was just given another low level rep (Mike). I have my homeowners insurance with Progressive but I will never use them again once I am paid off for this vehicle. I had to get my Attorney involved to get this expedited.

We had this company for 6 years, and at first was less expensive and was ok. Had one payout but felt it was not handled 100% in the sense that the other party we felt milked the company and made up things that simply did not happen. The other party received $14,000 and literally there was no damage to his car when my husband drove away. Please remember to take pictures and videos at the scene of the accident. OH MY! The other party had been in another accident recently and even said that to my husband when he bumped the rear end of the other party's car with no damage. BE AWARE: as of 6/14/25, this company does not give any discount for taking driver courses.. We submitted two and then they told us, even after telling us how to submit them, they don't give discount for this. Also, one person at the company literally changed our policy without our OK, and which we never even mentioned to them to do.
Luckily I called back for something else and found our policies had been changed without our consent. Even though the wreck has been on the policy, they were way out of line in price for the last couple of years as well, beyond the increased amount for the wreck. Our bad for not having checked the pricing earlier and just blindly playing. BE AWARE: Their one accident free policy after being with them for so many years can be easily bought from other companies for about 100 bucks a year, so please don't be sucked in by that. Anyway, we are upward and onward and went happily to USAA now.

We have had Progessive off and on for a few years and they were great until this last two weeks when it all went downhill. The amount we were quoted never did happen, it was about 100 more, but I kind of expect that from car insurance anymore. I decided to call and just ask about it, with the hopes of getting a lower amount. By the end of the call it had MORE than doubled. The underwriter lied flat out saying there was a law in my state that required my NON DRIVING daughters to be on the insurance, just because they are over 16, they don't touch the car, but they are still a "RIsk" and there's a nonexistant law requiring them to be on the plan, not as drivers but it raised the plan 100 just for that. Then I have a son who ONLY has a permit, and therefore is NOT required to be insured yet.
It is JUST a progressive policy that no, he DOES have to be fully insured apparenty. No other company has that that I am aware of. The lady also didn't know what she was doing, she had to put me on hold to "research" these things and every time she did she came back with us owing more and more. It almost appeared like she was looking for ways to up our premium. so now we would owe MORE than double, and the "Catchup" amount the next month was TRIPLE the premium we had. I let her know she was losing a customer but that didn't help. Not impressed at all..

After 20 days, I got email for another 17 bucks charges on my account stating since I removed my card from autopay, that discount has been removed from my account. Not sure when I processed the payment in full that what balance was left behind. In addition to, Sales rep did not update me for this. I must say Progressive is not reliable at all and will charge you more even when you pay in full. Better to use other service.

I’m deeply frustrated with Progressive Insurance. Without my consent, they added a family member to my auto policy who has not lived with me for over three years. This resulted in an outrageous increase to my premium. When I called to dispute the charge, they asked invasive questions and demanded proof about my daughter’s residence—despite the fact that I never requested she be added to the policy in the first place.
It’s completely unacceptable to assume and apply changes without the policyholder’s approval, then place the burden on the customer to fix it. What’s worse, they continue to stall and refuse to refund the unauthorized charges. This type of practice feels predatory and disrespectful. If you value transparency, fairness, and basic customer respect—look elsewhere. This experience has been nothing short of a nightmare.

I dropped my Progressive Auto Insurance today. My premium for the next 6-month renewal more than doubled. When I inquired, I found out my driver rating had dropped because I turned in a small claim two months earlier. I struck a yellow post on the passenger side of my vehicle and dented both doors. I have never turned in a claim in my 50 years of driving and the cost for the repair was $1,000, so not a huge repair. They told me this would stay on my record for 6 years. Had I known this, I wouldn't have filed a claim, but then why have insurance.

I wish I could rate Progressive a zero star. Word of advice run for the hills. For starters customer service is so poor its not even funny. My billing for renewals $347, $410. $522. When I all Progressive I was told parts are getting more expensive, granted I never put in a claim. They also said it went up because I had an improper turn, to be transparent a ticket I pain $100 for. The insurance went up over $1000, of course the agent had the nerve to tell me it's only $600. I can't imagine how much it would be if I had an actual accident.
After being with progressive over the years I couldn't believe how I was treated. When I finally went in the chat to cancel, the agent told me if she wanted to send me cancellation documents in the mail which would drag the policy out for another week or two. I have auto pay so I understood her assignment, and ask for the cancellation effective immediately. I told her to send me anything I needed to sign electronically using my email. She then proceeded to tell me if I didn't provide my information she was going to sign me up for non-renewal. To say the lease I was appalled. I took screenshots of the messages and will be uploading them. I did this review to alert people that even if you have to pay more someplace else, do that at least you'll be treated like a customer.

They are terrible. My 2025 new vehicle was damaged over 7 months ago; was not my fault and the other party did not have insurance. They expect me to pay over $8k to get my car fixed back to new, because they want to only pay a certain amount. I had to invoke the appraisal clause just to get my car fixed back to factory and still going through that process despite the repair on my vehicle being completed three weeks ago. I would leave them in a heartbeat if other insurance companies were not in cahoots with each other, i.e., charge you the same amount as your current insurer despite the accident not being your fault simply because the current one paid out. I pay for insurance to get my car fixed. I do not advocate violence in any form, but I can see why NY got taken out.

No lawyer would take my case to sue them because we are in Florida and the Florida laws are supposed to protect the insurance companies and fraud the customers. Stay away from Progressive if you know what's best for you. I have now been without a car after paying money to them to fix it. They lied about the scans and they lied about what was done to my car but blamed me.

I had no problems with them until they suddenly added someone else on my policy, never saw the email or notification of them asking for verification, then without any confirmation from me they just added the person onto my policy without my knowledge which in turn jacked my bill up more than twice what I was paying. Then when I went to fix the problem they gave me the run around, which took two days to fix, and at the time said they wouldn't return the money, instead they said they could credit my account, just to find out like two days later they did return all the money they took, then decided to send me a cancelation notice if I didn't pay, as well as a late fee. They then said there was nothing they can do about it unless I pay the bill...
All that being said, I have to say by far the worst insurance company I have ever had to deal with. If you can go with some other insurance company do so, stay as far as you can from Progressive Auto Insurance. They have shown me to be a company that is more worried about how they can get more money out of you while presenting a front of being the lowest and best insurance company, if they don't get their way.

Purchased Progressive through a third party broker. Found cheaper insurance on my own, so we called the broker and canceled Progressive car and motorcycle insurance. Next thing you know we were getting a bill from Progressive for the insurance we canceled. Less than 30 days later came a collection notice from Progressive. We returned it stating that we had canceled and owed nothing. We didn't hear a response until about 30 days after that ... we got notification from the state wanting to charge us a fine, because Progressive told them we were uninsured. Fortunately we were able to get the fine removed because we could prove we are and were insured by a company much more honest and with better integrity and customer service than Progressive. Progressive, however, is still claiming we owe them, and the collection notice stands. Stay away from Progressive and their creative, dishonest billing.

I received an email stating a claim was filed on my auto policy. I called the number on the email and was answered by AI. AI gave me phone number of claims adjuster. Then AI connected me to adjuster. Call disconnected. Called again and once again AI connected me to adjuster. Message telling me to leave a message. Called again and kept telling AI over and over that I wanted to talk to a human being. AI finally connected me to a person who told me my vehicle was involved in an accident and claim was filed but would not give me any other information. She gave me phone number of adjuster's supervisor. Supervisor told me a claim was filed in Florida and that the claimant had the same name as me and the same policy number as me. Said she would have adjuster call me.
Waited for adjuster to call and when she didn't, I called supervisor back. She told me she wanted to remove the claim but could not do it until new claim was filed. I asked how this could happen and she started telling me the same name and same policy number issue had confused everything. So I asked her if other driver was driving same make and model car with my vehicle's VIN. I asked did he have same birthday and driver's license number. Or same license plate number. She said it was simple human error. I said I had to answer questions on the phone before I was allowed to speak to anybody, but no one had to answer any questions before filing a claim against my policy.
I also asked how come we both had the same policy number and was told we lived in different states. I said this is unacceptable and asked for the supervisor's manager's name and number. Supervisor then started apologizing and claiming human error and would not give her manager's name and phone. So I told her I was going to find a different insurance company. I was told that was my prerogative. Then I hung up. About 30 minutes later, the adjuster called me and started telling me the same things her supervisor told me.
I repeated the same things I told her supervisor. Then I hung up. I find it unacceptable that an insurance company can assign the same policy number to two different policyholders. And I find it unbelievable that the same policy number was issued to two different policyholders with the same name. I was asked for my date of birth repeatedly while carrying on these conversations. Did other policy holder with same name and policy number also have same date of birth?? They did absolutely no checking whatsoever before putting an accident on my policy! And I found their explanations both unacceptable and unbelievable. I will be changing insurance companies as soon as possible.

Progressive Auto Insurance is one of the worst auto insurance companies I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. Their customer service representatives repeatedly lied to me about policy rates, another gave me a false name, several others lied to me and told me that documents (which would have lowered my rate) cannot be emailed to Progressive, (Yes, they can. It's the same email address Progressive uses for sending document links to customers), instead they claimed I had to send the documents to them via snail mail, forcing me to have to pay the higher rate that month; another rep told me that my insurance rate was high, ($549 + change per month for one non-luxury car, no claims and a perfect driving record), because of paperwork I needed to sign and email back to them.
She kept me on the phone for over half an hour and, as soon as I'd signed and emailed the paperwork back, she informed me that, no, it actually wouldn't change my rate that month. When I first started my policy Progressive reps ran me around about PIP coverage. I was literally on the phone going between my medical insurance company and Progressive for 12 hours that day trying to get the PIP coverage figured out and sent over to them (this is where the lies about emailing and the lie about the rep's name came in).
I was hung up on, transferred, and/or disconnected multiple times that day and reps do not have extension numbers where customers can bypass the automated system to reach them if the call should drop. This is a major issue because the automated system answers every phone call--no matter what you're calling about--then runs you in circles with questions that keep you from being able to access customer service. Every time you call, you have to go through the entire process..."Let's see if I can help you...." (No, you can't "help me." Just put a representative on so I can get on with it!) In short, Progressive is EXPENSIVE and TIME CONSUMING and the representatives cannot be trusted to tell you the truth. They say no since it wasn't our fault they will have the other insurance company cover it. Mind you we have multiple dash cameras so we could clearly show that it wasn't our fault. So we go ahead and file the claim. Then we get a claim representative, one Madeline... I won't use her last name. She then proceeds to tells us that she has us covered and that she is in discussion with the other party's insurance to get them to cover everything.
Weeks go by and our truck is finally done with repairs. She then told us that the other party didn't have insurance, even though it was a commercial fleet vehicle and in the state of Utah it is law for all commercial vehicles to have insurance. We then proceeded to get her supervisor number, her name is Courtney. She is a piece of work and just a horrible person. She basically lied to us as well saying the previous personnel we spoke with had not authority to make such claims, and blamed us for everything. 500 dollars is not that much money, in the grand scheme of things... but them lying to their clients and treating them like crap says it all. The next day I called back to go with them and I was told the quote was only good for the day it was given. The new quote was very much higher. Nearly $200. Shameful business practices.

I shopped with them for Home Insurance policy, they said they could come up with lower premium if I bundled it with Auto, then they come up with a very low premium for Auto insurance. Unsuspecting of their intention to cheat me I go ahead a buy the Auto insurance with full payment, and then they proceed to quote me for Home Insurance and that fails. Called the Customer Service, and they said they can do nothing about it. I cancel it my Auto insurance immediately and ask for a refund, the CS said they will only refund the amount as Check which can take up to 10 to 15 business days. That really sucks, if they took money online through CC or Paypal they should immediately refund it.

I never enrolled in Auto-pay, but they tried to recharge the card at renewal. The card had expired, so that didn't go through. I used a separate card, and made sure this time they did not have Autopay enabled. But that incurs an additional charge (I was never made aware of this). No worries, they sent the bill for the additional amount so late (despite when they said they actually mailed it), that to pay that additional bill would also incur a late fee. So I found better, similar priced insurance and cancelled the policy. But they "prorated" the first month higher, reducing the refund nearly 10% of what it should have been. Is this somewhere buried in the complex paperwork - maybe. Is it a fee for early termination - no, as I checked that. Is it a way to screw over customers and line the pockets of CEOs - absolutely. I had been with Progressive car insurance for more than 10 years and home insurance since 2019. I recently had a car accident on 02/21/2025. The other driver was completely at fault. I had dashcam footage as proof. I asked progressive claim adjuster 3 times (on 3 separate occasions) to send me message/email how to submit the dashcam footage to him. He never send me message/email how to submit the video. The claim adjuster did not answer calls/his phone went straight to voicemail every time I called him. He also did not listen to his voicemail because based on the conversation that we had, he repeatedly asked me questions that I had already left in the voicemail for him. During my call with him, he said he reached out to the other driver multiple times. I said I was not aware of that because he never told me that. He said that he “did not have to tell me” any information.
He insisted that he could not get the claim number from the other driver's insurance (Crum and Forster). I told him that they just need the other driver’s information to pull the claim number. He refused to call them. I called Crum and Forster myself and I was able to get the claim number from Crum and Forster. They only need the other driver’s information just like what I told Progressive claim adjuster. I provided progressive claim adjuster with the claim number and the contact information of Crum and Forster’s adjuster. Progressive did nothing about it. I had to contact Crum and Forster’s adjuster myself to get the claim going.
I trusted Progressive to work on my claim, and nothing was done. From the day of the claim 02/21/2025 to 03/12/2025, no result, no ongoing update, no outcome during those 3 weeks. I was able to get the check from Crum and Forster after reaching out to Crum and Forster 2 times in the period of 4 days. How could Progressive did not make any progress in my claim at all in the period 3 weeks when I was able to get the check after doing everything myself in the period of 4 days. The claim adjuster's supervisor was also informed of this issue, but the supervisor also did nothing about it.

I have had car insurance with Progressive for a few years now. I had never had any problems with them until recently. On February 18, 2025, I went to lunch at my local QT which is my normal routine I usually grab something under 6.00. When I tried to check out my debit card was declined. Upon further investigation I found that they had taken 800.16 (about a week and a half paycheck) from my account instead of the normal 221.00 monthly payment. Their actions cost me NSF plus other bills that I could not pay.
When I called, they informed me that they had added my son to our insurance because he shares my address, and my rate would be well over 500.00 a month. My son is a war veteran and has a mini home on our property. I requested that he be removed from my insurance, and I was told that they could not remove him from my policy. My son is in his 30's, has his own car and insurance which I proved that, but I was told that I would have to prove that he does not live in my household by sending them a bill with his name on it. This all seems scary that my car insurance is spying to see who shares the same address. I am in my 60's and have never ever filed a claim on insurance and have not had a ticket in 40 years so I just don't get it.
When I spoke to multiple people over the phone, I was told "to clear up any confusion I might have that an e-mail was sent to me, and I could have disputed it, but now it's too late". I do not do business by e-mail it's not very reliable, and I have since went back and looked and have yet to find that e-mail. I have written Progressive underwriters, Peter B. Lewis-Chairman of the Board, Ms. Tricia Griffith- CEO of Progressive with no reply from any. I did get 344.00 refund but that all they can do since I did not dispute the invisible e-mail. They upped my premium with no prior notice of Change, I sent the email I received that shows yes policy was renewed but no changes made, 202 is your monthly payment. I wake up to my account overdrawn by 60 due to Progressive taking 537 out, apparently my monthly went up. I contacted them and basically was told they have the right to charge me what they want whenever they want to. I dropped a car on the insurance due to it being nonmobile for a few months, I went to add the exact same car back to the policy, they are trying to charge me 200 more per month for the car that is older than the one that is insured through them.
Let me add my credit score is 701. There is no emails being sent to me with details of change. I have been told my paperless discount has ran out and then was thanked for being a paperless customer. I thought loyalty points got you smaller payments, not more. I have no insurance person, it says agent is Progressive.com. not one person can tell me or explain why my premiums are increasing and not decreasing. My experience with America Strategic/Progressive House Insurance has been the worst. The one-star rating is being gracious. Indiana Unfair Claims Settlement Practices Act requires insurers to act in good faith. This includes a duty to communicate, investigate, and resolve claims in a timely manner. There was a complete lack of effective communication from the agent assigned to my claim—she never once reached out to me by phone. It took 44 days for an adjuster to visit and assess the damage to my kitchen. The claims agent ignored several of my emails and prioritized her holiday vacations, showing little regard for the urgency of my situation. When I called to gain a better understanding, her rudeness was evident, and the call lasted only 7 minutes.
The false claims made through snail mail letters about being unable to contact me—despite both myself and the restoration company repeatedly emailing the handling adjuster—only added to my frustration. After the claim was "temporarily closed," the handling claims agent provided an opportunity to discuss the possibility of reopening it—then avoided my calls, leaving me without the chance to understand why my claim was denied.
It wasn’t until I escalated the matter to Progressive corporate that she finally called me—her very first call—14 days later. When I asked why she sent me letters with the opening line "because we could not reach you..."—which was absolutely false, as both myself and the restoration company repeatedly emailed her—her response was, "That's just the way Progressive writes their letters." This response only added to my frustration, as it showed a complete lack of accountability and professionalism in handling my claim. As an Emerald Loyalty Member, I was repeatedly assured by Progressive that I could "enjoy the peace of mind that comes with knowing you're covered by Progressive." Based on this promise, I trusted I was in good hands, only to be let down by the poor handling of my claim.

Progressive I meant regressive sucks. I don’t know how the heck people would waste their time with this sorry behind rip off business. They have dragged their feet for over 2 weeks from an accident. Their dumb client hit my parked truck. Yes you cannot drive when you back into a parked vehicle. They haven’t even called me to discuss this matter. I keep having to reach out, and the sorry adjuster and her sorry supervisor are worthless employees that don’t do their jobs. I haven’t heard from either, but yet their voicemail says I’m the best person to handle your claim. You can’t handle something you’re not even working on.
Your company doesn’t even deserve the one star I was forced to give to be able to submit this review. Either you overwork your employees or your company and your 2 employees are just pitiful. You all make the person who didn’t cause the accident work harder than the adjuster that’s supposed to be moving the claim along to getting resolved. I wouldn’t get progressive insurance if they told me it would be free. That’s how much your company sucks.

As a customer who has had a bit of a roller-coaster journey with Progressive Car Insurance, I felt it was necessary to share my recent experience, particularly around loyalty and how it's recognized by the company. After being a Progressive customer for several years, circumstances led me to interrupt my policy for a year. Upon my return, I was under the impression that my previous loyalty would seamlessly bridge the gap, reinstating me to a status reflective of my overall time with Progressive. However, the reality was quite different.
Despite my years of being insured with them, the hiatus meant that my loyalty slate was wiped clean, at least in the context of discounts and membership level. Pre-interruption, I had enjoyed the benefits and service consistency that came with my policy. Upon rejoining, I was placed at a Gold membership level—a clear step down from where my cumulative loyalty could have positioned me, potentially at Diamond status, had the interruption not occurred.
This policy approach by Progressive significantly impacted not just the level of discounts I now receive but also my opinion of the company. The essence of loyalty, in my view, is a mutual recognition of continual support and trust, regardless of intermittent breaks that life sometimes necessitates. By choosing to overlook the totality of a customer's history in favor of uninterrupted patronage, it feels as though Progressive places a heavier emphasis on continuous profit rather than rewarding long-term loyalty.
While my experiences with their customer service, claims handling, and the overall quality of coverage have been generally positive, this issue raises concerns about the value placed on customer loyalty. It seems counterintuitive in a competitive market, where building and maintaining lasting customer relationships should be paramount, to "punish" those who, for whatever reason, might need to pause their policy.
In conclusion, while Progressive offers reliable car insurance and has strengths in various areas, their policy on loyalty, particularly concerning interruptions in policy coverage, leaves much to be desired. Customers who value loyalty recognition as part of their insurance package might find this approach less appealing. It's a reminder that, in some cases, loyalty might indeed "mean nothing" when it comes to tangible rewards, and that the focus remains more on monetary gains rather than genuinely fostering and rewarding customer relationships.

I was hit by a Progressive driver. My daughter was backing into a parking spot, her coworker opened her door and damaged the side of my car. Instead of investigating, coming out to look at my car (only pics) they said they are taking the word of their customer. If her door were opened when my daughter was backing up there would’ve been damage to the back of my car not the side. This coworker bragged that her mom worked for Progressive and she was sure they wouldn’t pay. So instead of actually investigating they just took her word. I have to come up with the money for a brand new bumper, side panel and light. Are you kidding me? I was told an adjuster would come to investigate and never showed up. I will keep this as short as possible, but the fiasco is so much worse in full. I purchased a used car in June/July. Progressive needed me to verify that my girlfriend has her own car insurance, otherwise I need to add her to my policy. I emailed them a copy of her insurance card which names her parents on the front (This is important later).
Weeks go by and I get no response. I call them to ask for an update and they told me they haven't gotten around to looking at the documents I sent them. I demanded they look at it now, and they told me they needed my girlfriend's declarations page. I asked why they couldn't just contact her insurance provider directly like they would if she was in an accident. They have all of her info. Instead they insisted I needed to get the declarations page from her parents. This is all 2 days before the deadline, so I asked if I would be forced to owe any back pay since it has already been MONTHS and they haven't even looked at the documentation I already sent them. They assured me I won't owe any back pay because they will look at the date I sent the email on and charge me based on that, assuming she isn't eligible to be "List only" on my policy.
Yesterday, 12/4/24, I happened to check my bank app and saw I was overdrawn by $600+ from Progressive. I call them to sort it out. They kept me on hold for over an hour. The agent I spoke with was very nice, so I have no issues with her, as this problem was caused by some other moron. She looks over the documents I sent them and says "Who is [mom] and [dad]?" I explained it was her parents. They own the policy. My girlfriend, their daughter, is on the policy too. But only the owners are listed on the insurance card. I then explained that if they read through the declarations page I sent them, a 14 page PDF (a couple pages for each person on the policy), they will see my girlfriend's name is in there.
I'm put on hold for another 30 minutes and they finally get back to me and say that it was all a mistake, she DOES have her own insurance, and I don't owe the $800+ they charged me. Say they will issue a refund in 3 to 5 days. Meanwhile, I'm stuck in the negatives until then accruing overdraft fees for every day they don't issue the refund. I called my bank and they said the best they can do is open a dispute and when I get my refund, they will reverse all the overdraft fees. All of this because someone couldn't be bothered to actually READ THE DOCUMENT THEY DEMANDED I PROVIDE FOR THEM. Someone's unbelievable laziness and irresponsibility is screwing up my bank account, my credit score, my everything, and I'm literally unable to pay for ANYTHING until this gets straightened out.
The woman on the phone was too nice for me to say this part out loud, but when she said "We would've hated to lose you as a customer so thank you for sticking with us" I really wanted to say "That has yet to be determined" but she didn't deserve that after resolving my issue. Progressive had better fire whoever is responsible for this absolute blunder. It's only a couple hundred dollars to them but it's MY entire life they are playing with. Even the bank is outrageous for not just reversing the charge temporarily until the refund comes through. They told me I just have to deal with it and I should take it up with Progressive for a faster resolution. Absolutely no soul.

If you have alternatives to Progressive for your insurance needs, you should avoid utilizing Progressive as your agent. I was in an accident (hit a deer) two weeks ago, and the vehicle is still sitting in my garage. Progressive needed a week+ to compose an estimate just from pictures and video. Progressive's quote estimate also quotes used and refurbished parts for a vehicle that is less than a year (nine months) old.
This, of course, would void all long-term factory warranties, but my Progressive agent will not give me any reassurances that they will cover the necessary OEM parts or cover the balance of the factory warranty. As if that headache was not enough, connecting with my "agent" has been extremely difficult. She is unresponsive and unreliable. I have to leave multiple messages before receiving a response, and the agent does not follow-up as stated.
Ultimately, Progressive has made it clear that they are indifferent to the opinion of their client base as long as they receive their regular payments. It is absurd that my car is still damaged in my garage. I can't reach a reliable Progressive agent, and there is no real end in sight as I might have to know the difference between used parts and new parts to repair my car. When I finished with my quote and questions, I told her I was spending the weekend getting quotes and, therefore wasn't purchasing any insurance today. At that point, she got verbally abusive with me, calling me nasty, talking down at me, etc. I was dumbfounded since I never spoke toward her with anything other than my pleasant business voice while I was on a call.
I asked for her name since she didn't give it at the beginning of the call. I usually write down time/date of all business-related calls I make and the Reps' names I spoke with. She refused to give it to me. I asked to be transferred to someone else. I was hung up on. On 9/4 I was involved in an accident where another vehicle reversed into my parked vehicle. This resulted in my passenger front fender and bumper to bend inward and on both I received starches and scrapes that exposed the bare metal and plastic beneath. That night I filed a claim with my insurance company (GEICO) who immediately informed me that I should first file a claim through the other person’s insurance company first (Progressive). Geico told me they would start the process for me and should I receive communication from progressive. After a few days I received an automated text message from Progressive asking me to use their portal to file a claim. This entailed listing what vehicles were involved in the accident and taking a lot of photos and a video of my car. I completed this in the beginning of September.
A couple days later I noticed that on both the Geico and Progressive claim a third blank vehicle was listed bringing the number of vehicles involved from 2 (the correct amount) to 3. It was like the portal had defaulted to adding a vehicle after completing the information for the prior one. I called both Geico and Progressive and informed them both about this discrepancy, clarified that only 2 vehicles were involved, and asked them to remove the third blank vehicle. At this point my claim had been to Sasha ** and it should be noted nearly all of my calls to Progressive were to their Claims hotline as without fail I was directed to Sasha’s voicemail. From what I could through the respective claim portals the correction was made by both insurances. For weeks after I did not receive any communication from progressive.
Near the middle of September, I received a call from Geico stating that Progressive had contacted Geico for information about a third vehicle. Geico then contacted me to confirm if there was a third vehicle. I informed Geico there was no third vehicle and that this matter should have been taken care of already. I gave the contact information for Sasha to the Geico representative on September 16th. By September 20th Geico had still not been able to get in contact with Sasha (and neither have I). Like me all they were able to get was her voicemail. I called Progressive again and obtained the Supervisor’s information (Caroline) and gave that to Geico. From here, Geico said they were able to get in contact with someone.
September 26th, I received an automated message from Progressive asking me to select how I would like my claim to be handled, either they take care of it, or they will send a check. I selected check and the portal said that a virtual estimate would be done, and a check sent to me. In the beginning of October, on a Friday/Saturday I received a letter in the email from Sasha dated September 27th. I thought this letter was going to be my check imagine my surprise when I read the contents, and I found that among other things the letter alarmingly said that Progressive had received no contact from me and that if no contact was made they would assume no damage had occurred to my vehicle and that my claim would be closed.
I immediately called Sasha and received voicemail yet again. I called the Progressive claim hotline and spoke to a gentleman I believe was named Kevin. I asked Kevin about the letter and why would I be receiving it if I have been in contact with Progressive multiple times. I also asked if my claim could be moved to a new adjuster as Sasha was unreachable. Kevin rushed to the defense of Sasha and told me how she had hundreds of claims to deal with and tons of calls to make every day hence why she wasn’t responsive to me. (You would think one of those tons of calls would be to me but no, at this point she had never reached out to me).
Kevin also told me after reviewing the notes on the claim that Sasha sent the letter because she had been contacting with Geico to get some information, but Geico was “withholding” that information. I told Kevin “I think I know what this about, it’s about the third vehicle isn’t it?”. I tried to explain what had occurred and how it should been resolved. Kevin cut me off and informed me that “no the information that Sasha was seeking was not about a third vehicle.” I asked Kevin what was it about then. Kevin said I would need to talk to Sasha as he didn’t have access to it on his end. (Side note: How could he know that it wasn’t about the third vehicle but also not know what it was about). Kevin further stated that at this point Progressive had done all it could and was waiting for Geico now and in fact Geico should have been in contact with me to resolve the hold-up.
I informed Kevin that the letter stated none of that at which point he said, “Well sir what do you want me to do, change the letter?” At this point I felt Kevin was utterly dismissive about every single one of my concerns and went out of his way to try to prove I was wrong. I asked the matter to be escalated to a supervisor. After getting off the phone with Kevin I called Geico hotline immediately. I didn’t inform Geico of anything I learned and just asked the agent to let me know what was in the notes. The Geico agent informed me that the last communication they received was Sasha calling them to get information about the third vehicle and they had informed her that there was no such vehicle. They had tried to reach Sasha but like me were sent to voicemail and on their end Geico was waiting for Progressive to make a determination about liability. Everything Kevin told me was a bold face and easily proven lie.
On the following business day I got a call from the supervisor Caroline who informed me that in fact the status of the claim was they were waiting for ME to upload an estimate and she asked me if I had received a link to upload an estimate. I had not. I quickly received the link to upload and as luck would have it I had already scheduled an estimate to be done at a local shop. The following day I got my very first call from Sasha asking if I had gotten the link to upload. I had. The shop uploaded the estimate to Progressive and near the end of the week I was contacted by Max the Progressive repair representative who said he would complete the estimate quickly and get the ball rolling on repair. The estimate from the shop detailed the work that needed to be done and included a multitude of photos.
Max then sent back his estimate which was nearly half the estimate of the shop’s and most notably didn’t include any lines for painting and just listed buffing with no explanation given for the changes/removals. To reiterate the damage to my car had exposed bare metal and plastic. You can’t buff that away. The following business day the shop informed me that Max was requiring to see my vehicle. (Side note 2: This was completely different than my experience with Geico that had simply cut a check for the repair estimate the shop gave. Additionally, this shop had worked with Progressive before and in fact worked with Max multiple times as well.)
I dropped my car off on a Monday for Max and the shop to go over the damage. I was not informed that any work would commence with my car nor was I asked if I had a ride. This car is my commute car and my only stable means of getting to my job. Later in the week Max sent me and the shop a supplemental estimate and the shop informed me they had been given the go ahead to start working and had actually already started. The following days I found ways to get to work hitching rides from friends/family/coworkers and walking. I was unaware and never made aware a rental was an option. On Friday my car was still not done and that weekend and the following week I would need a car for work travel. It was my coworker who informed me that a rental should have been provided. I frantically called Sasha, Caroline, and Max and got voicemail on all three. \
I called the Progressive hotline who informed me that while yes a rental could be arranged only the aforementioned three could approve it. The ladies who I contacted through the hotline were extremely helpful and made sure I stayed on the line while they contacted Max, Caroline, and Sasha via teams to make sure they were available before transferring me. After a bit of waiting the lady informed that Caroline was OOO and Max was unavailable. Sasha was green on teams and she was waiting for a response. A bit later Sasha had teams messaged the lady stating she could take my call right then. I was transferred and wouldn’t you know it, sent directly to voicemail.
I called the hotline again, voiced my frustration and reiterated the urgent need for a vehicle. I was promised that Sasha would call me asap but there was a potential that said call wouldn’t happen until the next Monday. Nearly 2-3 hours later I received a call from Sasha that my rental was approved. My car remained in the shop for another week. I picked up the car from the shop more than 2 months after the incident. I’m grateful that my car got repaired, but Progressive made this the most grueling, frustrating, and exhausting experience with the lies, lack of communication and unprofessionalism. I’m sure everyone has horror stories with every insurance company. But my two cents skip Progressive get Geico.

Due to my recent experience with Progressive, I highly recommend everyone check your insurance's online account every month for unauthorized changes. That and avoid Progressive and affiliates. Your coverage history (with other providers) can and will be pulled into your policy premium without your authorization, increasing your premium and auto-pulling from your bank account if you don't catch it!
I thought that I had found a reputable insurance at a good price. I had shopped around online and Progressive offered the best price for my 3 vehicles with me as the only driver. (They were suspicious that I had 3 vehicles all to myself, but you might relate to my scenario - ranch vehicle, comfortable trip vehicle, and building-supplies-from-Home-Depot vehicle) and I stated from the start that the drivers from my history were not in my immediate household any longer and more importantly - didn't drive my vehicles. But because they had been listed under former policies that I've had, Progressive just decided on the second or third month to add them in AND at extremely outrageous prices - more than three hundred more a month! That's more than any policy I had ever had with everyone on it.
As soon as I saw the increase, I called and talked to their Underwriting staff who said I needed to get them proof that the others don't live with me. They want their pay-check stubs (with withholding statement - why?), or new proof of living arrangements. I set out to cancel my policy and found another insurance provider. Cancelling was easy enough to do, but Progressive still wants the documentation on those other drivers or I will still owe a back-dated premium of $300 plus.
What baffles me is that they don't cover non-listed drivers in a claim anyway. If there is an accident and a non-listed driver was driving, they would deny the claim. It's not like there is a risk to them. Many insurance companies have policies requiring roommates and tenets to be listed in the household on vehicle insurance policies because there is a remote possibility that person might drive the covered vehicle. If they don't cover non-listed drivers, they shouldn't be asking for all that. It's an invasion of privacy that is not necessary to their risk assessment. It is simply a ploy to get more money.
I'm ok with mandatory insurance that covers someone else if I am at fault, but there should be a national coverage limit and it should be based on the driver only. I can only drive one vehicle at a time! People who want to cover their own vehicles can opt for more coverage. Anything more is a racket. And that's what Progressive is doing; running a racket.

Example. I drive a Hyundai which is unfortunately part of a national car theft pandemic. I have called numerous national and local insurance companies for a reduction in the yearly bill. I was refused by every one of them because of the brand I drive.
If the law states that everyone must carry auto insurance regardless of age, race, gender, etc. You cannot refuse to insure people based on brand, driving record, zip code or area of the country.
2. Insurance reform on rate determination.Insurance companies should not be based on credit and zip code but should include income as well. Low-income citizens with poor credit are charged higher rates because of credit rating and zip code and not income.
Example: I signed up for debt consolidation and my score dropped considerably. I am being charged more for my auto insurance because of the lower credit score. I am also currently charged more for my zip code. I should not be held accountable for poor drivers in my area. I do not fall into that group.
3. Insurance reform based on the herd effect.Companies should never be allowed to charge you based on the surrounding population’s driving habits. My rate should be determined solely by my driving habits alone, not the general population.
Example: I have been told on multiple occasions that my rate is based on "drivers in my area" causing the rates to be higher where I live. This should not be allowed.
4. Insurance reform based on value. Brand, the driver should not be continually charged a higher rate within a certain period because of the brand. If the value of a vehicle drops excessively because of a national theft pandemic of an Example: My Santa Fe was worth $25K in 2023. It is now worth $15K because of the attempted theft, and national theft pandemic. My auto insurance rate has continued to climb by $50 to $80 every six months. This needs to stop.
5. Insurance reform on ticketing. If a ticket or moving violation drops off a person's driver's license within 24 months. Insurance companies should not be allowed to continually charge a higher rate after the violation drops off the driving record.
Example: I got a ticket over a year ago. This ticket has dropped off my driver's license. I am still being charged for the ticket that is no longer on my driving record.
6. Insurance price gouging reform.Due to inflation, COVID19, and other economic and natural disaster events. Caps should be placed on commissions and profits. Insurance companies should not be allowed to price gouge consumers based on the consumer's brand of vehicle, changes in the economy, or natural disasters.
Example: Because of my brand of vehicle, zip code, area of the state where I live and other natural disasters in the southeast. Once again, I am being charged for everyone around me and not my personal driving history.

I requested the random person to be removed from my policy so I don't have to pay the amount that I don't owe but they said the underwriting department who is the only that could remove someone from my policy is closed today so there's nothing they can do and my policy will be canceled at midnight if I don't pay that amount that I DO NOT OWE.
I called again the next day and of course my policy is canceled a month and a half before it expires, they refused to do anything unless I pay $211 to get my policy active again and there's no guarantee I'll get that full amount back. So I decided to throw away the last month and a half of auto insurance that I paid for so I won't fall for their scam.

Do not get Progressive Insurance and cancel if you have them! - The Progressive claims process is a nightmare! It was not efficient, as the Claims Adjusters do not do their due diligence in properly gathering all the information, while providing horrible customer service by ignoring you along the way. Specifically, I was assigned to MARLYN **, as my Claims Adjuster and it took her over a week to even reach out to get an initial statement of what happened. My case was closed by Marlyn and her Supervisor, Jacob **, approx 30 days after my incident happened without ever talking to me. They made their decision of fault without a timely, nor thorough investigation.
Additionally, the manner in which Jacob spoke to me when we finally connected after they closed the case, was rude, disrespectful, and he made excuses for Marlyn not calling back, avoiding my calls, and never really took the time to listen to me and understand the big picture of the horrible process I was put thru. I am cancelling Progressive Ins because of this after 5 yrs, and urging anyone seeking to use them to think otherwise. When/if you ever need to file a claim with them, the process will be disappointing and take forever, as when you need them, they treat you like crap, not a customer that you are. #**.

Just recently, the company added my 17 year old non-driving sister to my account without my approval. In August my bill was around $65, in September it was $217. I talked to the company and they said they would not refund the money. Beware, this company, and others will mine for your data and add drivers to your account without your approval. They say they send out memos, but I did not receive any memos. I knew nothing about it until I got the bill and it over drew my bank account. Today, they say that they will refund $65, but that is all even though they made the mistake. I cancelled the account and went to Geico and got the same coverage for less money.

If I could give Progressive a zero, I would. They increased my payments without any reason—no incident, no tickets—just an unjustified hike. When I decided to leave them, they tried to charge me extra, even though I had paid everything I owed. They then sent this "debt" to their own debt collector, Caine & Weiner. Despite me providing proof of my payments, the collector still tried to charge me, and their manager was incredibly rude. It’s clear that this company has no regard for fair treatment and seems to be more interested in taking money unjustly. There needs to be oversight and discipline from some regulatory body to stop this behavior. Unfortunately, they seem to make a habit of taking people’s money unfairly.

When my daughter turned 18 in August, they automatically added her to my policy. She did not drive the vehicle and apparently, they sent some mailing in July that I did not receive. I only saw the change after the policy change occurred.
As such, when I excluded her from the policy and never wanted my daughter on the policy in the first place, they still charged me over $200 as they would not retro-backdate and credit the charge (about a month's worth of coverage) and the payment was still required on the policy. I agree with other reviews here, that you most certainly have to view the app and call them each month to make sure your policy the way you wish it to be.

I signed up with Progressive in Jan of this year. Also signed up for the snapshot program. In this program, I am supplied with a device that plugs into my OBD terminal and monitors my miles and braking / acceleration habits. This is very typical of how AI measures you as a risk but my main goal was to find an insurance company that would rate me properly for the extreme low miles I put on my car.
I had one speeding ticket a year ago so my initial 6 months rate was not too low but not too bad either. The promise of Snapshot is that if you show a good driving habits and low mileage during the first 45 days of use you will be rewarded with a discount. If at any time before the 45 days you think you are maybe driving poorly and want to withdraw or just check your progress you have to call in. There is nothing on the website to tell you if your driving is making your rates go up or down. In my case the website breakdown of my driving kept saying stuff like.... great job, you are on your way to lower rates.
All during this pre-45-day period I would get e-mails from Progressive telling me .... "Great job, keep using your device for lower rates." I never did get an actual breakdown of how my driving was going to affect my rates and it was getting close to the 45-day cutoff so finally I called in and talked to a human. He said that even though I had a few "hard" braking records (the system is very sensitive) I showed good driving and low mileage. So I decided to run with it. It wasn't until close to renewal, 6 months, that I started getting notices to send the device back.
Then I get my renewal notification with an amount that is $464.00. This renewal amount is supposed to reflect my Snapshot discount and yet my original 6-month amount without Snapshot was $395.00. Hmm seems like all the promises made by Progressive were for naught. For someone like me who only puts less than 1500 miles a year on the car, it would be nice if there was an insurance company that would take this into consideration.

This was the first time I ever got into an accident when I was driving and the first time dealing with an insurance company in this manner. This has been an awful experience from day 1. The lady who took my claim was rude and had an awful attitude. She determined that my car was totaled by looking at a picture and got mad because I wouldn't let them take the car from the garage until the adjuster checked it out. Over 2 weeks later the adjuster went and determined that my car was not totaled and it was a good thing that I didn't allow them to take my car. I even apologized to her for frustrating her and she continued to be rude like I was taking money out of her pocket.
I spoke with the adjuster, Mich, and she was nicer and more helpful than the girl that took my claim. I received a check but the car wasn't done yet and she had to go back for supplemental issue so I needed to wait for the 2nd check before I could take my car. The car has been ready for over a week but could not do anything until I got the check. I have been trying to contact Mich for a couple of weeks with no response. The garage tried contacting her numerous times and no response. I received the check yesterday so I went to drop off the rental and go get my car.
The guy at Enterprise me informed me that they have been trying to reach out to Progressive for 1 1/2 weeks to find out about the extension for the car and he showed me around 17 emails and calls which there was no response to. There is a bill for $365 and I can't get my deposit back till they get ahold of you and pay the bill. I couldn't get my car till you sent a check which means I wasn't bringing the rental back till then so I'm not paying that $365. This accident happened on June 1st and most of this 6 weeks the car was just sitting there waiting for you. The accident that I got into was not my fault. Someone ran a red light. This was just an awful experience.

The second payment went through fine. The third payment didn’t come out and I noticed this within 2 days of it not coming out so I called. They stated there was a problem with my card. While I was on the phone with progressive I called the bank. The bank stated nothing had tried coming out and it must be a problem on their end. They used the same card to make the payment with no problem. My bank even stated the funds were available on and before the day.
Anyway moving forward a few weeks later I received a text saying my bill was ready. I opened it and it was over 100 dollars higher so I called and progressive said it was because I removed myself from the auto pay which I did not. I told them that was not true and to put me back on it. I gave them the card number and they said they could not take that card. The account has never been overdrawn. Always has cash in it. No reason for them not to take it. The lady insinuated that I was lying about it been a brick and mortar bank card. Had to have the account and routing number to put me back and then said it would still cost 75 dollars more on the next payment because it was prorated. No payment came out. No payment was due. On June 12, 2024, my car was flooded in the middle of the road. I promptly arranged for a towing company and contacted Progressive. Despite my persistent efforts, it took until June 17—five days later—for the adjuster to arrange for my car to be towed to the body shop. During this time, I had to rely on a rental car.
Progressive promised to inspect my car on July 1. Since then, I have been calling every other day to follow up, but I have received no information about the status of my claim. The dealership's report indicates that my car is a total loss, yet after 32 days, Progressive has not provided any report or feedback about my car's situation. While the adjuster, Jeralyn, has tried to assist, she also lacks information, and each time I call, I am told that they will check with the inspector and get back to me immediately, which never happens.
This experience has been extremely frustrating and disrespectful. I explained that my older son lives on his own and has his own auto policy.
The representative then asked if I had any other household members. I mentioned my younger son, who is only 15 years old. She requested his information and insisted that he needed to be listed on my policy. I informed her that he is not licensed and does not even have a learner’s permit. When I asked why he needed to be listed, she claimed it was Virginia law and threatened to cancel my policy if I refused. Reluctantly, I agreed to list him, assuming it was the law, and asked what would happen next. She said she didn’t know until I provided his information. After doing so, she immediately informed me that my premium would increase by $404.86. I was extremely upset but didn’t argue with her.
I then spoke with my agent, who agreed that this situation was not right. It seemed like a pre-charge for a non-licensed person. I called Progressive again and spoke with a knowledgeable representative who explained that this is not Virginia law but a legal document requirement. Progressive sends me my quote and confirms my price. Today I click on the link they sent me and…surprise surprise! 1) It is normal for them to run checks after the midnight of the same day. Following that they can change the price (+15% increase in my case). This is due to some sort of regulations.
2) If I had paid at the same time, I was seeing the quote, the price would have not changed by a single penny (i.e.: that regulation check maybe applies or maybe not. But the price would not change.)

Her insurance company is State Farm, they are not claiming liability even though I was told their claims adjuster is out of town for 2 weeks so how can they say the driver who hit me is not at fault and if they did a virtual investigation why can't they talk over the phone about their findings?
I can't even contact the claims adjuster for State Farm at the moment. Without my authorization or consent, Progressive added a driver to my policy, resulting in an unexpected cost of over $300 on my part. When I reached out to Progressive to rectify this egregious error on their part, they not only failed provide a solution but also showed a complete lack of empathy towards my situation.
What's even more concerning is that this is not an isolated incident. It appears that this deceptive practice of adding unauthorized drivers to policies is a recurring problem at Progressive, with numerous customers falling victim to this unjust scheme. Despite being aware of this issue, Progressive has shown a blatant disregard for customer satisfaction by prioritizing profit over the well-being of their clients.
As a customer who trusted Progressive with my insurance needs, I am deeply disappointed by their unethical behavior and lack of accountability. It is disheartening to witness a company of such stature overlook the concerns of its customers and perpetuate practices that harm rather than protect them. In light of this distressing experience, I urge anyone considering Progressive Insurance to exercise caution and be vigilant of such deceptive practices that could potentially put your finances and trust at risk.

Terrible car company if you own a used vehicle. Probably alright car company if you own a new or close to new vehicle. Progressive severely undervalued what my car is worth and therefore only offered to total out my vehicle for one-third of what I could sell it for on the open market. The damage? A small dent in a panel and a broken axle from a hit-and-run. Beware of Progressive. They're super convenient and easy to use; however, when it comes time to actually settle a pretty simple claim, they will fail miserably.

I barely drive as I work remotely and places are local to my home. After 6 months they went up to 228. Customers are being ripped off with these prices. Then, for the first payment of my renewed policy I was notified they were trying to pull twice the regular payment amount as what I was anticipating and had paid previously. When I looked at the payment schedule at that point, it had changed to twice as much as my last policy for all payments going forward. When I looked into further detail, they had changed my coverage to much more than I had ever elected previously. I got a call from the body shop that it was done. When I picked it up all the same lights flashed and chimed and it had a bad grinding when I drove it. They said that was mechanical and needed to be looked at. The Ford/Lincoln service center did an analysis and said it needed an ABS module and it was not drivable. So I tried calling in to cancel the policy. I talked to Kiarra, who consulted with their manager Ingrid.
Kiarra told me that I could not talk to her manager when I asked, and that they had already talked to them for me. They told me that they could not help me any further. And that even after consulting their manager while putting me on hold, that there was nothing they could do. They told me it was a "privacy issue". I asked them which location (call center) they were working from, and they didn't give a clear answer. I asked them their name, and their manager's name. Then I said thank you and hung up. PLEASE STAY WAY. Terrible experience with Progressive. I recently had the unfortunate experience of dealing with progressive after my car was involved in an accident in FEBRUARY 22. I cannot stress enough how disappointed and frustrated I am with their handling of the situation. First and foremost, their estimate of my car as a TOTAL LOSS was completely inaccurate. Not only did they undervalue my vehicle, but they also failed to consider the possibility of REPAIR. This left me in a difficult position, as I now have a CAR THAT I AM UNABLE TO USE BUT STILL HAVE TO PAY FOR.
To make matters worse, despite having POSSESSION OF MY CAR, progressive refuses to cover the cost of a replacement vehicle or provide any form of temporary transportation. This has left me stranded and without a means of transportation, forcing me to rely on costly alternatives. Even more infuriating is the fact that I am still expected to make MONTHLY PAYMENTS for a car that is essentially useless BECAUSE THEY HAVE MY CAR. It is simply unacceptable for progressive to expect me to continue paying for a vehicle that I am unable to use due to their own mishandling of the situation.
I have repeatedly reached out to their customer service team “NICOLE **”, only to be met with vague responses and empty promises. It is clear that customer satisfaction is not a priority for progressive. One of the most concerning incidents occurred when my car was at the body shop. Progressive was PRESSURING me to sign the papers to release the car, claiming that there was a fee they needed to pay if the car remained there. I decide to help them, I reluctantly signed the papers. However, as soon as I signed, progressive suddenly stopped responding to my inquiries and concerns.
Since then, I have been LEFT TO DEAL with the consequences of their actions. Despite HAVING POSSESSION OF MY CAR, progressive has failed to provide ANY FORM OF COMPENSATION or reimbursement for the loss I have incurred. I am now left in a situation where I have to CONTINUE MAKING MONTHLY PAYMENTS TO THE BANK for a car that I cannot use.
The accident occurred when another driver rear-ended my car. I IMMEDIATELY reported the incident to the police, who arrived at the scene and conducted a thorough investigation. The police report CLEARLY states that the other driver was at fault for the collision and HE ALSO HAS PROGRESSIVE. However, progressive entered false information into their system, claiming that the accident was my fault.
As a result of this unjust attribution, I have suffered the LOSS OF FOUR POINTS FROM MY DRIVER'S LICENSE. These points not only affect my driving record but also have potential consequences on my insurance premiums. It is disheartening to see the negative impact this false claim has had on my reputation as a responsible driver.
In conclusion, my experience with progressive has been nothing short of a NIGHTMARE. Their inaccurate assessment of my car as a total loss, refusal to provide a replacement vehicle or temporary transportation, and expectation of continued payments for a useless car have left me feeling cheated and taken advantage of. I STRONGLY CAUTION ANYONE CONSIDERING their services to THINK TWICE before entrusting Progressive with their insurance needs.

Ok, this is complicated. First I would like to say that I do not appreciate the deceptive practices that can be committed by this company. Some context, I rent an apartment suite above a garage at a single family home. My household includes just me. My landlord's son just obtained his driver's license. Progressive, without asking or communicating, placed her son onto my insurance policy, which prompted a dispute from me. This dispute elevated. Progressive explained that all members in the household were required to be on my policy. I debated this. After not only insisting, and actually placing him on my policy I provide them with proof of insurance. Being that they were trying to charge me insurance, and his mother insurance company was already insuring him, this creates a deceptive practice of double dipping.
I spoke with high level individuals in the State Insurance Commission who assured me that this was not legal if I provided proof of insurance. The insurance people then said, even with proof of insurance, they would continue to charge me an extra $7.99 fee for him as an unlisted driver living at the same address. I continued to dispute this and the State insurance commission agreed with me. There was NO legal basis for this fee. Progressive claimed they had a special agreement with the commission to do so, however the commission disagreed and stated unequivocally that they have no special agreements with any individual company that allows this and had never heard of anything like this occurring before.
Fast forward, they credited me back the almost $300/ month they were charging me for my landlord's son but in the renewal policy, I moved to the Emerald loyalty tier having been a long term customer, yet my bill increased from $97/month to $114/month. After speaking with a representative at progressive they explained that a risk assessment was conducted and required an additional $8.00 added to my agreement. This is very clearly a fraudulent way to continue charging me the $7.99 fee that the state commission stated was not legal to charge. Extremely deceptive and I will even say a fraudulent business practice.
I inquired with several other insurance companies, and each one stated they had never heard of such a thing occurring where drivers were forced onto someone’s policy because they shared the same address, let alone hiding non-permissible charges as a form of retaliation for the legal dispute. I am in the process now of filing a formal complaint, as recommended by the state insurance commission. The commission was perplexed by this situation. It could have happened to many other, but perhaps I am the only one to speak up and push back on it only to find that I am correct and the company is being deceptive. My experience with Progressive was great all the way up until this situation and since has been quite poor.

My claim happened on 3-9-2024 and to be avoid when my auto was damaged with my son in the car is totally horrid service!! People, go to State Farm!! They are way better, professional, timely submitting your claims! Stay away from Progressive insurance!!!! The only reason I give them a one star is because it's required! Their service is worth zero-stars.

I've had Progressive for years for auto, umbrella, and home insurance. For a low speed 5 mph single-car accident on ice (my car slid into a guard rail with minimal damage), Progressive raised my rates almost $400 for 6 months! I am a retired firefighter with a spotless driving record. As soon as I can find umbrella coverage with another carrier, I will be moving all policies to another carrier.
