I am currently dealing with a total loss claim with Progressive following a car accident on June 18th where their policyholder was at fault. The experience has been nothing short of a nightmare. After the accident, I was injured and had to go to the hospital. Despite our vehicle being quoted at $6,500 for repairs, Progressive dragged their feet. They didn’t send anyone out to inspect the car or take photos until my husband was forced to write a negative review just to get a response.

Now that they have declared the car a total loss, the lowballing is rampant. They are offering us less than what I paid for the car just 13 months ago, and they are doing the same regarding the injury claims for everyone who was in the vehicle. (Only reason I took the money for the injuries was because I needed another vehicle asap. My husband is terminally ill and has a lot of appointments or else I wouldn't have.)

The communication has been incredibly difficult. I am dealing with an adjuster named Jessica who is calling from Maryland, while I am based here in Ohio. While she was initially polite, her demeanor changed quickly. She sent an email with impossible conditions for "comparable" vehicles—demanding we provide listings of the same make, model, and mileage, but explicitly banning all common sources like Kelley Blue Book, Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, and private sellers. They offer no guidance on where they expect us to find these, yet they demand we settle for their arbitrary number. They seem to be making the process intentionally difficult to force a quick, low-value settlement. If you are involved in an accident with a Progressive insured driver, do yourself a favor: skip the frustration and hire an attorney immediately. It will be far less of a headache than trying to handle this claims department on your own.

I started a new policy over the phone. And then a month later, I got a bill after I already paid in full 46 months. For another seventy dollars, I called him up. And asked him why they said, "Oh. You didn't sign up for snapshot." Nobody told me anything about snapshot. And the guy was really rude. I will never do business with Progressive again

They deterred me from using Hyundai where the car was towed and the place it would be fixed the quickest because they penny pinch and prefer profit over properly doing their job. Sue W. offered no help whatsoever and was very poor in communicating policies and helping me.

I had another insurance policy lined up for $45 cheaper a month and had a $100 deductible instead of $1,000. New policy was to start June 15th. I got a message from the other company on the morning of the 15th saying that the new policy was starting as agreed and they were sending docs over. So I schedule Progressive policy to end in the 16th. The other company didn’t not send the documents over that day which caused a lapse in coverage. Despite the fact that this was not my fault, and that I have proof in writing; I now have to spend an extra $115 a month for the exact same policy that I had just days prior. Wow….

Worst insurance company ever. Claims are handled very badly. Estimators wait days until after you drop your car off for fixing and customer service is not very nice. A driver was added without my authorization and charged me 1,500 out of nowhere. I never got an email or mail about it and they still went ahead with adding the person. Very stressful time. Please, skip the stress. Learn from others' mistakes.

Progressive client hit and damaged my vehicle. They initially gave me an estimate for repairs and are refusing to pay out on the claim. Also refusing to come do assessment of both vehicles involved. Photographs clearly show where their client is on the road when I get out of my vehicle to inspect damages. But Progressive is claiming they can't determine who is at fault even though the photos clearly show point of impact, where the vehicles are stationed on the road, etc. Photos also show the state of their client's vehicle, front window is packed with garbage and obstructions.

After interviews and interrogation they sent out an adjuster who verified the damage. I sent pics and weather report 3 separate times. When I told them I was calling an attorney they agreed to cover damages. Fast forward. Vehicle is in the shop, surprise, surprise, they are denying coverage. Bigger surprise no one is returning my calls.

I have a policy with Progressive and have been struggling to get answers, originally my premium was a certain rate, then fluctuates a minor (15-20). I reach out and ask about that, so we do through a whole song and dance, and I accept, now I had to reach out to them and ask why was it raised, they did not reach out to me. Then the following month it jumps over $300. I call back they give me some story about added drivers that I didn't add, even still you didn't reach out to me, I guess because my payments are automatic. If I was just randomly checking the app I wouldn't have known.

After I send a form back excluding a driver, they take like $150 of my bill still my bill was over $200, that I've been paying previously. So I get patronaged on the phone, telling me my next month bill will only be 90 something dollars, but I explained your still taking over $200, so I asked a basic question: "What will my bill be after my July bill?" The answer: "We can't give you that information." I'm like, "What???" Every answer was vague and ambiguous.

I got Progressive insurance after having it. For a few months, I got a new car. They were charging me over $350 a month on a 2018 Kia Optima. I switched insurance companies, and they are saying, I owe them $25 they sent me to collections. I switched companies about 7 days before they would take the money out of my bank. Now they are being petty. This is not a good company. They are not part of the Better Business Bureau for a reason. Because they are a bad company. Stay away from this company at all cost. Even if it does cost you a little bit more, it's worth it. To not work with progressive insurance, but chances are you will find every other company is cheaper than them.

State Farm gave me insurance for a $150 less than they were a month but this company wants to charge me $25 for some hidden fee. That I was told all I had to do was say yes, on the phone, and that's all they needed to charge me. If that's not a scam, I don't know what is. Be careful what you say. If they ask you a question and you say yes, that means they can charge you money.

Liked the price but then realized it was tied to its "Snapshot" App that monitors your driving via the iPhone. After 2 months, they're telling me I am on threshold of RATE INCREASE because of HARD BREAKING which is TOTAL BS!!! In this part of NJ, 90% of my driving is highway and when being constantly CUTOFF, I have to break hard of course (by their definition of 7mph in a second)...or with so many poor drivers making dangerous, unexpected moves, one has to drive/brake accordingly. I have had NO claims or accidents in my total 56 yrs of driving. And, with this nice car, I COAST as much as I can rather than breaking hard. I am cancelling ASAP.

I had to hire my own appraiser just to try to get something that resembled a fair market price for my car and still come out $2,000 below market value.

I was involved in an accident where I was 100% at fault. Both the other driver (the victim) and I happen to be Progressive policyholders. Progressive's handling of this claim has been an absolute nightmare of "Bad Faith" and utter negligence. For months, Progressive ignored the victim's fair diminished value claim. I only found out about the issue when the victim directly sent me a "Final Demand Letter". I immediately alerted Progressive, but received nothing but canned, template responses. I then gave Progressive a strict deadline and stated I would report them to the California Department of Insurance (CDI) if they failed to act. They completely ignored my warning.

After I officially filed a complaint with the CDI, Progressive provided a purely superficial and deceptive response to the state agency, claiming: "The victim is just making unreasonable demands, so we won't pay. Contact us again if you actually get sued." As a direct result of their stubborn refusal to settle, the victim formally sued me, and court papers were served at my home. When I forwarded the lawsuit to Progressive as instructed, I explicitly demanded that all future communication be handled strictly via email for proper record-keeping, stating that I would not engage in unrecorded phone calls.

Despite my clear directive, their consumer relations department completely ignored my request and passed the buck. They emailed me the name of a new handler with ONLY a telephone number, deliberately hiding their email address to force me into unrecorded verbal conversations to avoid written accountability. Progressive completely failed their fiduciary duty to protect me, forcing a lawsuit between two of their own loyal customers, even after a state regulatory intervention. This company is deeply unprofessional, deceptive, and untrustworthy. Avoid them at all costs.

Don't ever expect to receive ANY reimbursement for theft or damages to your home as the result of one. We were left holding the bag and paid out of pocket to fix the damage, they simply kept putting us off. And THEY were given all the required paperwork they needed. These people are clowns. Maybe they should paint their faces as such, so hard working, trusting customers can see them, and their rotten insurance company coming... Not worthy of a one score. Bid fat ZERO.

I strongly advise against using Progressive based on my recent experience. The billing practices felt misleading, particularly what appeared to be a “bait-and-switch” approach on pricing. When I attempted to cancel, I was provided with a “final bill,” only to receive an additional charge the very next day. This lack of transparency and consistency in billing is unacceptable and raises serious concerns about their internal processes and customer communication. At a minimum, I would expect clear, accurate, and final documentation when closing out an account—not multiple, conflicting charges after the fact. Based on this experience, I recommend proceeding with caution.

Worst Insurance Experience I’ve Ever Had. I was a Progressive customer for years and never had any tickets or at-fault accidents, yet my premiums continued to increase at nearly every renewal. On January 7, 2026, my wife was involved in an accident where the other driver was also insured by Progressive and was at fault. What should have been a straightforward claim turned into a frustrating and exhausting process that lasted over five months. During that time, I was transferred between multiple claim representatives and case managers, causing delays and forcing me to repeatedly explain the same situation.

When my vehicle was declared a total loss, Progressive initially agreed to re-evaluate the value after I challenged their offer. However, two months later, they contacted me asking for permission to evaluate the vehicle again, making it clear that the original evaluation had not been handled properly. They ignored approximately $7,000 worth of documented upgrades and supplements to the vehicle and appeared focused on offering the lowest possible settlement rather than a fair valuation. Even though I was not at fault, I was initially charged a deductible until I pointed out the mistake.

The injury claim process has been equally disappointing. My pregnant girlfriend, Ivy, underwent therapy and chiropractic treatment as a result of the accident. Six months later, Progressive is still attempting to negotiate the lowest possible payout rather than fairly compensating for the injuries and damages sustained. After this experience, I canceled my policy and switched insurance companies. Based on how this claim was handled, I cannot recommend Progressive. In my opinion, the company prioritizes minimizing payouts over taking care of long-time customers and accident victims.

Do not trust Progressive with your car, your rental property, your boat, or anything else you value. They easily break their contract responsibilities, actively lie to their policyholders, and treat you like you are completely clueless when you call them out on it. I purchased a brand-new $80,000 2025 Ford F-150 Lightning for my mother. It was recently in a minor accident resulting in damage strictly to the front right bumper. I took the truck to ABRA Auto Body in Colorado Springs, who wrote an outrageous repair estimate of $34,000. Instead of doing their due diligence, Progressive immediately called to inform me they were declaring this $80,000 vehicle a total loss. Refusing to accept this lazy payout tactic, I took the vehicle to a second reputable body shop. Their estimate came back at $22,000—well below the legal threshold for totaling a brand-new $80,000 truck.

Despite this objective proof, Progressive is dragging its feet, refusing to fix the car, and violating their duty to the policyholder. When you try to resolve these issues, their adjusters and representatives talk down to you and treat you with utter disrespect. They rely on delays and psychological exhaustion to force you into bad settlements. I am uploading photos of the minor bumper damage along with both conflicting repair estimates to prove how this corporation operates. I demand that Progressive honor their contract, pay for the repair at the correct shop, and compensate me for the severe delays. Avoid this company at all costs for ANY insurance product!

After an hour on the phone with a representative who was totally unable to assist me and ended the call by hanging up. I did go online again and happened upon the information I needed. My bill was paid (electronically) in the middle of May 2026. The representative for Progressive kept wanting to "get me caught up with my payments" and I felt the payments were taken out of my account electronically. I was right, the May 2026 payment was electronically made and no funds are/were due until the middle of June 2026. I am still uncertain if I need to make the payment or, are they going to withdraw from the account given to them. Ugh. I'm afraid I may have to do this again next month. ***Consumer Fraud Company***. Just scroll down these Google reviews to read all these 1 star comments about this large scale fraud operation called Progressive. They engage in "steering" consumers to their "Progressive approved body shops" aka Direct repair shops so that the shop will do the exact sub-standard repair Progressive requests them to do. My son vehicle was struck from behind on an off ramp, the other driver admitted fault and was covered by Progressive. The very first adjuster quickly went out to look at damage to the rear of the vehicle, and stated they would have a body shop "just fill in the hole" on the plastic bumper. I advised that we would not do that, and we would take it to a body shop to have it properly inspected.

We took vehicle to a wonderful, honest body shop, who is also an independent body shop, not a Progressive approved kickback business. The body shop inspected and confirmed the vehicle needed a new bumper and the exhaust repaired. A second Progressive adjuster then goes to the body shop, and requested the professionals to "just heat up the bumper, so it melts a little bit and then reshape it" because she once saw it done on a video. The body shop, Thank God... thought she was crazy and denied that request stating they would not ruin their reputation by doing such as substandard repair. Numerous phone calls and texts between myself and the adjusters and supervisors, half the time no response back, and Progressive agreed to replace the bumper, but refused to fix the exhaust, saying there was no evidence of the exhaust being damaged in the accident.

My evidence was the exhaust was fine before the accident, and then the exhaust was rattling after the accident. The professionals as the body shop agreed it was damaged in accident, but Progressive still refused. In fact, stated that if we want to argue this point, they will just stop paying for the rental car we have. I have already filed a formal complaint with the NH Department of Insurance and will also be filing a complaint with the Attorney General's office reference the substandard repair tactics that violate state law that states repairs must be done to "pre-loss" conditions. Hopefully, state regulators can get a hold of this bully run business.

It doesn't matter that he's not allowed to drive my car. I'm now shopping for a new insurance company. I'm hoping to find a company that I can purchase only what I actually need. I'd also like to work with a company that's not going to say and do one thing at one date and then all of the sudden do something else when there's no change or anything from that last time.
