I hit a deer on the Night of November 17, 2014. I called Progressive to file a claim. They stopped me from making a claim. Saying I didn't have Comprehensive and Collision. I live in NY State. I have a loan on my car. It is State law to have Comprehensive And Collision on a car loan or a lease. I was never notified by Progressive that they never received my NY STATE PHOTO INSPECTION WHEN I GOT THE POLICY IN AUGUST OF 2013. THEY NEVER MAILED ME ANY DECLARATION PAGES IN THE MAIL. They were supposed to every 6 months. I was not on paperless notification. So they claim I didn't get photo inspection done. I went to Murphy's where I got it done but they keep NO RECORDS ON FILE. SO now I am stuck with the cost of repair, which I can't afford due to being out of work from 2 major shoulder surgeries. I have to have Ally take my car back and auction it off and I have to pay the remaining balance. So for over a year, Progressive could of let me know they never received the Photo inspection, which is free but failed to. Progressive NY STATE CARGO AND ALLY NEVER notified me. Be aware of what you are paying for and what you should be paying for when you get car insurance.

Well it was a cold winter’s night. The temp was about 15 below zero. I had worked a ten-hour shift at work then loaded up my three kids to go get some stuff for dinner and a rental movie.. After shopping I got in my car and headed home... I didn’t even get a block when booooommm, the front end of my car dropped to the ground... When I stepped outside and looked I saw a broken ball joint on my car.. I called my insurance company and was working with them on a solution... After about an hour and a half of repeating myself and getting transferred through various departments, they finally told me they were sending a tow truck and they would call me with the details five minutes later.... Waited an hour in the freezing cold with three kids... Then the officer on scene decided he had enough waiting and asked me to call a tow truck myself... So I did and within a half hour my car was towed and I was home...
Four hours later I get a phone call from the tow truck Progressive’s partner in crime "roadside assistance" had sent.. The driver on the phone was very rude and upset that I was not still in the middle of the road with my broken down car... Shortly after getting off the phone with the rude tow truck driver Progressive calls me and tells me about the tow driver... They assure me my car is covered by my insurance and that they would repair and pay for the tow... The next day I receive a call saying they were refusing to pay for the tow and the repair due to wear and tear... Furious now I scramble to find a solution...
I mean after all I do have roadside assistance with my policy... After two days of fighting with progressive and their affiliates my car finally gets paid for by my own pocket and roadside assistance agrees to pay me back (or at least review my claim for reimbursement)... Two days later Progressive raises my coverage by 16 dollars a month more... I am switching insurance companies right away.... Worst Customer Care Ever!!!!

Progressive is the worse insurance. They will not pay for your claim. I had to junk my car after 6 month waiting for Progressive to pay for it. My car was park and got hit by a car that was under Progressive Insurance... and they say after a review they will not pay a check if my insurance can pay me. WILL RECOMMEND NEVER GET PROGRESSIVE - WORSE AUTO INSURANCE EVER. They not willing to pay.

On May 6, I was hit head on by a driver with Progressive Insurance. The driver crossed at least two lanes to hit my car and knocked it into a parking lot. The car was totaled. After they removed me from the vehicle I was taken to the hospital. It took 1 week to get a police report identifying the driver and insurance carrier. The day I got the report I attempted to file a claim with Progressive over the phone. They said they did not think they would be paying. The driver was cited for Failure to Keep in Proper Lane. According to the police report the driver stated that another vehicle knocked her into my lane, however, neither the eyewitness, nor myself saw another vehicle. The officer also stated that based on the evidence on the scene and his investigation, no other vehicles were involved. Progressive sent me a letter denying liability base on the facts. Which facts they won't say. I had to turn matters over to my insurance company State Farm who have been excellent. I know others who have had similar dealings with Progressive and don't understand why they can get away with such tactics.

My daughter, Tiffany **, purchased an auto policy through Progressive on November 29, 2014. The payment of $130.53 for the premium was posted to my credit card ending in 8731 on November 30. After doing some shopping around, my daughter found a more affordable policy through another carrier. She contacted Progressive on December 1, 2014 and requested the policy to be cancelled. When I checked my credit card statement on December 16, I noticed the charge was still on my account, so I opened a dispute claim. A refund of $126.53 was posted to my daughter's checking account ending in 7199 on December 16. On December 23, my daughter received an email from Progressive stating: "Your policy has ended with a balance due. Below is an updated bill for your policy, which is no longer active. Total amount due: $130.53."
When my daughter called to find out why there was a balance due, she was informed that when the payment was drafted from her account, there were insufficient funds so they never received payment, so she still owed the premium. Despite her attempts to explain that the payment had already been processed, she was told if payment were not received, it would affect her credit. We are both trying to understand how there is a balance due, when the policy was cancelled within 24 hours. And, why was Progressive attempting to draft a payment from my daughter's account when I had already paid the premium? Any assistance you can provide in this matter would be greatly appreciated. A copy of credit card statement available upon request.

My husband and I both had Progressive car insurance before we got married. Not real complaints other than when we both signed up we were quoted a decent #. The lowest # we could find for him $110 a month. For me, $89 a month. We sign up and all is good at first. Set up automatic withdraw and for the first few months, they did deduct this amount from our account. After about 4 months, we notice they started taking out a higher amount. We did not think much of it because it was a not a huge increase. When we finally got married, we combined our insurance. The man I talked to told me, "Okay, your first payment will be $250.00, then it will go down to $95 a month." He failed to mention that it will go down to $95 a month after 5 months of taking different amounts out and the $95 was only for 1 month then it went back up to and kept slowly deducting. We never know how much they are going to take out each month. My second compliant is my husband, myself, our 18-month-old baby, and 5-year-old nephew were involved in a hit-and-run accident close to the holidays. Our car we bought used for $5,000 financed $2,100 and paid the rest only 2 weeks prior to the accident was totaled. Luckily, no one was harmed. We called our insurance right away and filed a claim.
They went to look at our car 2 days after the accident and told us they were going to total it. She then told us they would give us only $3,600 for it. So after our $500 deductible and them paying our $2,100 loan, we are left with $1,000. They tell us they came to this value by researching the same car for sale in our area using a 75-mile radius and that is what my husband's car is being sold for. However, Kelley Blue Book valued the car at $4,500 so my husband decided he would look at these car they found. Out of 12 listings, he found 3 that were actually really for sale. The other listings were not found. This was only 1 day after they sent to listings to us. The 3 cars that we found had way more miles than my husband's car had on it.

A few days before Christmas I received a reminder from Progressive that my payment was late. I immediately went online and made the payment. I received a payment confirmation along with an e-mail saying my policy had been cancelled. I called Progressive asking them to reinstate my policy and they said I had been late one other time and that they would not reinstate the policy. I'd been with Progressive for years. I was told I could apply for a new policy, which I did. The cost was substantially higher than what I had been paying Progressive previously and quotes I received from other insurers. I went with a new insurer. Not nice, Progressive!

On December 15, 2014 at approximately 5:45 PM, I came to Precision Body Shop and Detail at 245 Collins Avenue, Colma, CA 94014 to pick up my car (2008 Honda Accord V6) after it was repaired because it had been in an accident on December 2, 2014. Before I drove it off from Precision Body Shop's parking lot, I noticed that the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT was lit. I then informed Precision Auto Body Shop estimator ** of this who looked at it and advised me to come the next day so it be fixed. I came the next day, December 16, and a few minutes after I arrived, ** drove my car to Precision's repair area/section and was able to make the CHECK ENGINE light to not light after about 10 minutes.
On December 19, I brought my car back to Precision Auto Body for the same problem, the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. One of Precision's repairmen diagnosed it and said it is the Thermostat that is causing it. Travis then informed me that this is not caused by the accident and that he will talk to Progressive Insurance Representative Hleechi ** about this. On December 22, at approximately 8:15 AM, Hleechi ** advised me to take my car to a Honda Dealer Service to get my car diagnosed and that there is no guarantee that Progressive will pay for the diagnosis and repair because it is part of the cooling system and not the radiator and that it was the radiator that was replaced and not the Thermostat. Are Precision and Progressive right about releasing my car to me in a defective condition? In addition, why does Precision give written warranty and not fulfill it.

My driving record is virtually impeccable for the past 20 years. I was seduced possibility of saving $30 - $40 and sure I'd be able to. I drove without the radio on to ascertain the pattern and understand the device, assuming it would validate my driving skills. I work from home and drive during slow traffic times. I have a standard and I downshift and ease up to the light or stop sign. Still, I'd get a hard beep, which they consider any de-acceleration from over 7 mph. Sometimes I'd get TWO hard beeps. One time I got three. Moving up a car at a time for a left-hand turn, I got a hard beep. At a stop sign waiting to turn, I moved forward a bit to see past some bushes and stepped on the brake - and got a hard beep. No matter how hard I tried to understand the thing, it beeped when it wasn't even close to a hard stop - and sometimes would NOT beep under the same circumstances.
I'd estimate easily - on a conservative basis - 70% of the hard stops it registered weren't hard stops. I know a hard stop - and that includes when you're coming to a stop sign or light and not calibrating your speed accurately so you stop a little faster than you anticipated to avoid going into the intersection. I have those on occasion. But this thing beeped incessantly. I couldn't seem to get through a trip without it beeping at me, no matter how hard I tried. And now, as other reviewers and commenters on other sites have noted - my insurance has INCREASED. I would like to gather people and find a lawyer and sue Progressive. I find their marketing misleading and from the comments I should have read before I engaged, or at least before my 6-month snapshot term expired, I know now that rather than continue to try to cooperate and understand it for the discount, I should have taken it out and thrown it away before I was penalized for having "bad" driving habits.
Who's penalizing Progressive for scamming insureds with a marketing strategy designed to increase rates via a device that is designed to do the opposite of what it does? I saw a few comments on Rip Off Report that testified they'd received a discount. I'd like to see proof. In fact, I'm interested to know if Progressive has an audited report that validates its claims of reducing insurance rates in the insureds who use it.

We had a horrible experience with Geico after 16 years. We contacted Progressive and they gave us several quotes. Made several promises that never came true. My husband bought a little run around truck and paid cash for it so we put only liability on it. After almost a year of Progressive having all of our accurate information they told my husband that they had made a mistake and that our insurance was going up over $200 a year just because of our zip code. After researching their excuses of why they were intentionally ripping us off I discovered their real reason was because we live in a predominately Hispanic area. Without any doubts, regrets, or questions I highly recommend NOT using this company. If you are of any minority run from this company. They're racist thieves.

On November 6th my vehicle was involved in an accident with a Progressive Driver. The Progressive driver was arrested on scene and ticketed for: 1) No license and 2) Failure to properly use the turning lane. A few days later I picked my police report up. The police report clearly states that the progressive driver is at fault. My car has been deemed a "total loss" by Progressive. Today is December 9th, a month and 3 days after the accident. Progressive has done absolutely nothing; they've not taken fault yet, not paid for the rental I had to return due to non-payment, paid the body shop, my "totaled" car is sitting while occurring daily storage fees. I call the claim adjuster from Progressive nearly everyday and I receive the same response, "Use your insurance company."
I am not using my insurance to file the claim, it is not their responsibility. I cannot finance another vehicle until this whole mess is settled. And until this mess is settled, I have to continue to make a car payment and insurance payment. The money I am wasting on these payments for a totaled car could be going towards the down payment of another vehicle. Progressive needs to get on their game. Today I am filing a complaint with the State of Georgia Insurance commissioner. I hate to do this but I cannot sit back and put my life on hold while Progressive does absolutely nothing.

My daughter was waiting in a Plaza for a woman driver with 4 passengers to move out of the median. Woman moves into active roadway; when daughter moves into median and forward woman slams on the brakes causing daughter to tap her bumper and cause a scratch and small dent, less than $500 per the officer. Woman gets out of car and asks daughter for money. When she refuses, police are called. Per officer he states in report that impact and damage was so minor a ticket was not issued and it was not possible for any injury. Officer pulls daughter aside and says if they asked for money it could be a scam.
Next morning Progressive calls daughter (not me as the car owner) and says that this woman and passengers are on their way to the office. Daughter took pics at scene of damage area of rear bumper... when scammers arrived pics were taken of side of car as appraiser states fender is pulled out and lights are broken???? Progressive, without getting any medical documents or a police report discuss remedy with husband (who was not in the car or at the scene when it happened). He wants $1,200 per person for emotional injury. Progressive negotiates $500 per person and just over $500 for damages. That's over $3,000.00 within 24 hours of the incident.
They give these solid non-citizens hush money to sign a release with zero proof of injury. No concern for us as our insurance will now go up the next renewal $2,000. And my daughter has an accident on insurance clear report for the next 5 years. The quick payoff is to protect Progressive, not us. And we had zero say in the matter, and no one ever contacted me as the owner of the car. Scammers must be very happy when they see the name Progressive on the report as the crooks can walk away with thousands of dollars without any questions. Great way to encourage fraud. Horrible experience.

I acquired a policy with Progressive a few months back. When I purchased I completed it all online and set up auto payment for my policy. Everything was fine until I got a notice in the mail from them saying they cancelled the policy for nonpayment on November 7 and they mailed out the notice on November 30,.I got the notice on December 6. Called and explained "I'm enrolled in auto payment". Their response was I was enrolled in auto payment but it automatically dropped me from auto payment because I never consented to it. I explained "yes I did, I did it all online and had an electrical signature to consent to it." They explained "yes but you also have to fill out a consent form and send it or call and verbally consent to it."
Now I am stuck with a double payment this month on top of a payment I had to pay to reinstate my policy after being without insurance for a month without any notice, phone call, nothing from them because they have a moronic archaic system even though they say you can do it all online fast and easy. I never had to fill out a form/verbally consent to auto withdrawal when I consented to it with any other company I have dealt with including my last insurance company and the notice I got wasn't even a "hey we notice you missed a payment, just a reminder to see what's going on, call us so we can fix it". It was a threat, "pay the outstanding balance or it will be sent to collection notice." Don't get Progressive as you can see they have an extremely low rating. I made the mistake but don't make the same.

I am writing to inform you about my recent experience with your company. On Friday, November 21st, 2014 my daughter parked her car on a street across from her college dorm, like she does every time she uses her car. Approximately an hour after she parked and left the car a man, driving at a high rate of speed and running a stop sign collided with her parked car, leaving it non-functioning, and due to the cars age and mileage, totaled. He also hit her car so hard he pushed it into the car in front of hers, causing damage to that cars bumper. That night he left the scene, leaving no message, no note, nothing on either car.
The next day, Saturday, November 22nd, my daughter went out to her car, expecting to be able to drive away as normal to her intended destination. She was horrified to see her car smashed beyond functionality, no note left for her by the responsible party, and nothing she could do other than report the accident to the police department. At 3:57 PM that afternoon, I received a phone call from Progressive agent DeShawn **, explaining that he was calling about my car. My daughter’s car is registered to me, so the man who hit her car apparently made a claim on the accident to fix his parents car, which was the car he used to destroy my daughters car. I was told on Saturday in a brief phone call that Progressive would have the car towed to their facility, assess the damage, issue me a check for the cost of the damage or the cost of the car, and provide a rental car to replace the destroyed car. Mr. ** asked for the address of the car, and since my daughter uses it and parks it by her campus, I told him that he needed to call her to get the address and arrange for the tow and the rental for her. I sent my daughter a text message to let her know that this would be happening, and she waited for Mr. ** to call.
Mr. ** never called her on Saturday, November 22nd, after speaking to me. I called the phone number from which Mr. ** called me, and upon listening to his voicemail I learned that his business hours were Tuesdays-Saturdays from 8:00 AM-5:00 PM and business hours were already over for the day. I assumed, incorrectly, that Progressive would want to take care of getting her wrecked car and all of its debris off of the street as soon as possible, and arrange for the rental for Paige as soon as possible.
My daughter and I both called Mr. **, left voice mails; my daughter called his supervisors number, with no results other than reaching his voicemail, and she even called the main 1-800 number for Progressive to see when these things would be taken care of. No one could give her any answers, and she had to wait until Mr. ** was back to work on Tuesday, November 25th, to get things underway. He explained to her how the tow would work and what needed to be done, and then told her how to get her replacement rental. Before the car was towed her car started to receive notices from the City of Milwaukee to tell her that if she didnt move her can within 72 hours the car would be towed to a city impound lot. WHY WAS THIS HAPPENING??? WHY WAS THE CAR NOT TOWED OFF OF THE STREET THE DAY AFTER THE ACCIDENT??? It is terrible practice for an agent to leave his office for the weekend and leave things like a smashed car on the street and a driver without a replacement vehicle for 4 days!! Why did someone else from Progressive NOT take care of this???
The day after the car was towed Mr. ** called me to inform me how much Progressive would give me for the value of the car, and that the rental car was due back on Saturday, November 29th. I listened to him, told him that I was not accepting the offer until I talked to a few other people, asked that he call Paige to let her also know the same information and that I would be calling him back about it. Later that day I left him a voicemail informing him that this was a holiday weekend and we would not be able to purchase a suitable vehicle for my daughter by Saturday, November 29th and that we would be keeping the rental car until suitable transportation could be found. Also, in what way would I be able to purchase a replacement vehicle without the check from Progressive, which I did not accept? Mr. ** returned my call but left a voicemail instructing me to call him.
The next day was Thanksgiving, November 27th. We did not hear from Mr. ** or Progressive all weekend, and so on Monday, December 1st, I called him and left him a voicemail. He did not return my call until Tuesday, December 2nd, and we discussed the rental car which Progressive had provided. He told me that the rental car had been due back on Saturday, November 29th and that any further days would have to be paid for out of pocket. There was no way for me to have known this since I had explained to him via voicemail that we needed the rental car longer, did not have Progressives money on that date, and had not had time to look for and purchase an appropriate vehicle for my daughter due to the Thanksgiving holiday.
I argued all of these points to Mr. ** and told him that we needed the rental until we were able to purchase a new vehicle. He asked how long we needed it, and said that he needed an end date. I gave him the date of December 19th. He said that was way too long. I countered with December 12th. He again said that was too much time. We settled on Saturday, December 6th and he said he was going to put in a request to have that approved, and that he hoped to get back to me on that before the end of the day on Tuesday, December 2nd. In the meantime my daughter was getting phone calls from the rental company telling her that the rental car would be considered stolen unless she returned it immediately.
On the evening of Tuesday, December 2nd I received the check from Progressive in the amount which Mr. ** had quoted to me over the phone, which I never told him I would accept. I left Mr. ** yet another voicemail on the morning of Thursday, December 4th, inquiring as to the rental and Progressive paying for license fees and taxes, and he returned my call on December 4th at 9:54 AM. He informed me that the additional days for the rental were not approved, and that all extra days beyond Saturday, November 29th would need to be paid for out of pocket. I expressed my frustration for that, and asked why in the world we should have returned the rental car before: 1. We had an appropriate replacement vehicle and had the time to purchase it, and 2. Also before we had the money with which to purchase said-vehicle. He didn’t seem to understand my position or my dilemma, but then did explain that Progressive would pay for the new license fees and taxes, and that I should let him know the amount of those items when we knew what they would be.
My daughter did return the rental on the afternoon of Thursday, December 4th since it was only on that date that we found out the additional days on the rental would not be covered by Progressive. When she returned the car she had to charge $140 on her credit card. Really, Progressive? $140 is too much for your company to handle? Instead of making a poor college student charge it to her credit card and get charged interest on it? When IF YOUR CLIENT HAD NOT BEEN NEGLIGENT AND BREAKING THE LAW NONE OF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED ANYWAY??? Not to mention that we STILL do not have a replacement car! We are all beyond frustration!
This whole experience has been one of frustration, inconvenience and anxiety. I don’t understand why it took Progressive so long to contact my daughter, get her destroyed car towed and give her a rental car. The smashed car sat for 3 days in the rain and then a snow storm, so long that the City threatened to tow it. Tow truck companies are on call 24 hours a day. This could have been taken care of the day after the accident! I don’t understand why as soon as the car was towed and they gave us a value, they were ready to cut and send a check even though I told them that I was not accepting the total, and then they expected us to have the rental returned before we even had a chance to start looking or purchase a new vehicle due to the holiday, or before I even had the check in my hand!!
Progressive obviously seems to me to be nothing but a company looking for the dollar sign; they don’t care about a college student just starting out in this world who needs reliable transportation to get to class and to get to her two jobs on time. They don’t care that they have caused a family frustration, tears and anxiety while we all tried to figure out where to go to look for reliable used cars, wondered if we could afford a good used one to replace the very reliable one we just had which Progressives negligent client destroyed. They don’t care about families who have members working two and three jobs, trying to make ends meet, living paycheck to paycheck, and now have to scrape up money to replace a perfectly good vehicle, spend time and resources trying to do so, when if Progressives client wouldn’t have been driving negligently, speeding and refusing to stop at a stop sign, none of this would have ever happened.
Just because a car happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, yet parked perfectly legally, this should all cost me blood, sweat, tears and hard-earned money? Progressive has not made me or my family whole. People pay thousands of dollars per year to your insurance company, and I am absolutely sure that it would hardly be a dent in Progressives pocket to pay for a rental car for a poor college student for an extra week or two, and to make sure that a family is made back to whole with a suitable and reliable vehicle which they already paid for once, and now have to find money to pay for it again.
Please be sure that we will utilize every form of public media we can to decry this situation, to inform the public about the horrible service we have gotten from Progressive. Progressive is not at all a progressive company, unless being progressive means to completely screw over law-abiding people, steer away from customer service, and decent, simple humanity.

Took them 3 days after the claim was made to contact me. Took them 4 days after the fact to tow my car. Gave me a rental car that was only good for 72 hours after the check was sent. I NEVER accepted the money they offered me (so the check never should have been sent) but they decided to send the check anyway and I had 72 hours after it was sent on Wednesday to find a car, get it checked out by my mechanic, and buy the car. The next day was Thanksgiving, so in reality, I had all day Friday and half the day of Saturday to get this done. Finally got a call back on Monday after leaving a message for Deshawn ** telling them we need more time with the rental car and more money since it's nearly impossible to buy a car Thanksgiving week with a check we didn't have until Monday. Plus, the money they offered wasn't enough to buy a car similar to the one I had previously.
They are making me pay the rest of the overdue days for the rental car because the request to extend the rental was denied. Didn't know that until today (Thursday) when he said he would get back to me by the end of the day (Monday) with the answer of the request. Horrible customer service. It's nearly impossible to get a hold of this guy or anyone in his office. Takes them days to get back to you. Also, explain to me how I need to pay money out of MY pocket when it was their irresponsible, CRIMINAL client who hit my car. Without that event happening, I would have never had to pay any extra money that I don't have and the car that was destroyed would have lasted me years to come. Progressive refuses to help me out anymore even though I am not asking for a large amount of money. AWFUL company. Will never use them as my insurance company in the future. I will be writing to their CEO and getting a lawyer. Advice to anyone else, don't let their advertisements lie to you. And I hope none of you have the misfortune of having to deal with this company in the future.

I had Progressive Insurance. There was a shooting in the church parking lot and finished at the movie theater. My car got hit with a bullet. Progressive had my car checked but Bruce Auto took the bullet out. Progressive wanted my phone bill for the month and told me needed the other vehicle information. While I was on the ground I didn't see the car. They denied my claim, said there was no proof I was there. I was there waiting for the police. Then where did the bullet come from?

I was with Progressive for over ten years. My last policy was issued in the beginning of July and the premium was calculated based on my upstate address (my second home). Suddenly, one month before the end of the term, Progressive changed the premium based on what they said "information collected from different sources about where my car is being kept." Regardless of various proofs provided by me - mortgage payments stubs, bank statements, pay stubs with the other address - they decided to bill me for the difference at the last statement. My two conversations with the underwriter didn't help. I start looking for the better offer and instead of making the last payment, I cancelled the policy and took my business elsewhere.
Today, I received a bill obligating me to pay the outstanding difference. Is that legal? If I knew that my policy will be so much more expensive with Progressive back in July, I would have looked for a better offer right then. Again, is that legal for the Insurance company to change the quote at the end of the term and demand the payment? I am very unhappy with the treatment received!

My son's, my husband's, and mine. They informed me I have no active policy. It was canceled and is unavailable for renewal. Today is the Saturday after Thanksgiving and we are all uninsured. When I asked why, they said we are high risk. I said why. "Probably because you travel out of state a lot." What? My son is the only one who does, and it's during 3 months in the summer for an internship for college! I received no notice, no phone call, and no letter! Is this legal? We all have jobs we have to drive to this weekend. Has anyone had this happen?

In the middle of a claim dispute with Progressive Insurance that they are calling a total loss. Damage is restricted to the front end / grill area, air bags did not deploy & side fenders are fine. The estimate came to 7k and I live in Texas with a 100% TLT. They are offering me 8k. They requested I show them similar vehicles to mine. Alas a reference to support what I believe to be fair market value. The vehicles all fell into the guidelines they requested. I sent 4 vehicles, all local to Dallas, with similar miles, year, model, and with similar damage on the sides. All the cars had sold or were listed for $11k to $12k. Where am going wrong in understanding their settlement? They seem more Interested in if I have a loan and if I have gap insurance than fixing or giving me a fair settlement. This is a nightmare and thank goodness I work for law firm because I think that is the only resolution to this.

I've only had Progressive for a few months now, but I'm already getting a bad vibe. Nov 26 just my luck I get pulled over by pmo late that afternoon and they tell me I've had a lapse of insurance and they're going to have to take my license plate according to the rules and regulations of NC. Confused as they're giving me a receipt of surrender, I call Progressive to get to the bottom of it. They tell me the reason why all this is happening is because my vehicle vin number was wrong. Mind you, I've had this issue before with them and had to correct my vin three times. So in disbelief they finally get the right number and update the system. But wait, it's thanksgiving/black Friday weekend and I don't have a license plate still.
I go to the dmv before closing, wait for an hour to find I need to pay a fee to get a new plate. So I call Progressive and tell them they need to pay the fee for messing up my vin for the fourth time and they say they're not responsible because they only type in what they hear me say. After verifying countless times with them the correct number, some careless soul types whatever into their computer. Screw Progressive and Flo for her misleading commercials. As I started to make my turn I saw a car coming at me in the on coming lane at a high rate of speed. I realized immediately that this car was coming at me at full throttle and not slowing down. I floor boarded the car and got into the side street all except by rear bumper. The car clipped my rear bumper continued to skid 100+ feet - ran up on the median strip - backed off and took off at a high rate of speed. A lady who did not witness the hit but saw the car skidding and leave scene followed the car - saw it pull up in a parking lot 1/2 mile away and was assessing the damage to his bumper. She took the license # & I gave it to the investigating officer.
To make a long story short - the insured's daughter let her boyfriend drive the car. In court the daughter perjured herself - she was arrested in court for giving wrong information to the officer - her boyfriend was arrested for hit and run, 2nd trial the boy was found guilty of hit and run. I am a BRAND NEW customer. I have a great driving record. No points and claims. I called a local Insurance company and needed Insurance. The agent gave me a decent quote. It was a second car for me and I wanted insurance immediately so I took it. I was told to have proof of prior insurance faxed. I ordered that from my company and assumed it was done and received. My Insurance agent seemed like she was already angry when I tried to get the automatic withdraw set up on the checking. She seemed like she had a history of dodging customers. Everything seemed fine. I wrote a check to someone and gave it to them because I knew I had funds for it. I just had a feeling so I checked the balance. My account was empty. Apparently my insurance was increased! I called the agent and she dodged my call and did not return a call.
Progressive said it was raised because they got no proof of prior. I worked it out and they returned the money. BUT THEY RAISED MY RATES ANYWAY. Why I asked. They said because on my prior insurance I bought lower rates. WHAT? Because I'm at state mins and thrifty on an old policy, they use this to raise my rates? The policy levels did not change from the day I bought it but now they take an extra $80 a yr for a penalty? By the way, I didn't know I was buying Progressive. I read about them and see how they sell snooping snapshot tech as a desirable thing. If they use my thriftiness as a penalty, how much more will they penalize every move one makes on the road or speed violation to take more money out of an account? I will dump them very shortly. If I can't trust them now, how could I have them protect me from legal liabilities?

Good thing he was listening to the recording when it advised he could be tracked by his GPS, when he asked the rep if she could do that she realized she could. Why did he have to find the resolution? Then she asked him where he wanted to be towed??? He thought this would be cared for as he did not know his surroundings. If he had enough cell phone energy in his phone he could have looked that up.
Next she said he has to tell her which hotel he wants to go to. I heard her call Progressive and admit fault on the phone, while at the body shop. The body shop people heard it too. Seemed pretty cut and dry case of, she didn't look (oh, and she also didn't have a MIRROR on her passenger side), and it was totally her fault.
I thought Progressive, her insurance company, would then pay to have my car fixed. THINK AGAIN. They have DENIED the claim because "you came out of a parking spot"...??? Never mind that I'd been driving for several minutes when she hit me... never mind that SHE ADMITTED FAULT. They are REFUSING TO PAY. I talked to an attorney and they can't take the case because there were no injuries. Now it has to go through MY insurance or my car is gonna sit at that body shop and incur storage fees... plus I am using the body shop's loaner car, which I'm sure will cost a fortune when all of this is done.
I have a $500 deductible I am now going to have to pay, PLUS the possibility of my rates going up. Now I have to spend HOURS dealing with my insurance company to make sure it goes into subrogation, plus spending hours pressuring the woman who hit me. She calls my prior insurance companies and questions me as if I was a criminal. She then tells me to take my car to be checked out and the mechanic said that car is not safe to drive and wanted to put me in a rental (which I have coverage for). They denied his request. After being harassed and questioned and giving them everything they asked, a representative call me back accusing me of wrecking my own car although I gave her a witness and contact number to a mechanic shop that I have gotten my car fixed at 6 days prior. They failed to contact anyone. I even offered to take pic of deer and scene of accident. She said, "Anyone could fake a picture even I could go kill a deer and take a picture of it." Then requested I give her my job information, phone records and etc.

I filed a claim after the intake of my boat motor got clogged by weeds while running from one location to another fishing on Santee Cooper, Lake Moultrie and caused the engine to over-heat (a legitimate claim). The claim adjuster refused to validate my claim because he said he could not see physical, tangible damage. Even after the qualified marine mechanic that diagnose the engine told him it was very possible for this to happen, the claim representative wouldn't even entertain the possibility. It appears these guys must get paid not to validate claims. I guess they wanted me to dive into the lake and retrieve the weeds. The claim representative then had the mechanic to break-down the engine even further, trying to find a reason not to validate my claim at their expense, but left me with the bill to have the engine re-assembled. It took them a month before they decided they were not going to validate my claim. Can you get much slacker than that? I wish I could give these guys a negative star. On Oct 2nd, 2014 while on my way to work, I was stopped behind another stopped vehicle on eastbound Maple street in Omaha near 64th Street. While waiting for traffic to begin moving again, I hear the screaming of tires behind me and am slammed into from behind. I drive a very small Kia Rio and the force of the collision threw me into the Lexus SUV in front of me. Unfortunately, the 16 year old boy who hit me also had Progressive. He was also friends with the woman I hit as they were hugging after the accident and I asked about their relationship. Progressive claimed the accident MY FAULT and said I "must have hit the woman in front of me before the teen hit me" due to the fact that the damage on the front was worse than the damage in back. This is easily explained by the fact that The Lexus SUV had a bumper 8 inches higher than on my vehicle. My vehicle slid under the SUV. The back damage was minimal as the driver in the other car (a Dodge Stratus) had a bumper that perfectly lined up with mine.
I gave Progressive my taped statement the day of the wreck and a week later they send me a certified letter threatening to withhold coverage because I was not cooperating with their investigation. They claim I was not cooperating because I didn't drop the vehicle off at the repair shop. I could not do this as the car was still driveable and I needed to get to my 2 jobs Monday through Friday. Although I PAID for rental reimbursement, Progressive said they "may or may not pay a PORTION of my rental vehicle due to the fact that there was some other damage on my vehicle not related to that accident". The damage they speak of was a small cosmetic crack in the bumper cover I got from hitting a raccoon several months earlier. As I was already out the $500 deductible, I was not about to pay for a rental car. It took 3 weeks to repair the vehicle. The shop offered me a loaner for free, but didn't have one available at the time, said when they did they would call me immediately and I immediately explained this to the claims adjuster at Progressive.
We actually spoke every single day either via email or voice mail until I got the threatening letter. In the end, I am now "at fault" for the accident, I suppose for being in the way of an out of control teen driver who even admitted liability at the scene. If you get hit by someone insured by Progressive, IMMEDIATELY after filing the claim, file a lawsuit against the driver at your local courthouse. Scare and hound him like a rabid dog and literally go out of control to scare them some more. If you are BOTH insured by Progressive, skip the claim and GO STRAIGHT TO COURT. By the way, you are suing the driver, not Progressive, so the arbitration clause does not hold up! Get that driver into a courthouse! Claim injuries as severe as possible and drag it on as long as possible. There is no reason to be honest with an insurer who is going to be dishonest with you and then won't even allow you to sue them! The state could care less about enforcing the laws. YOU would have to pay a huge retainer to a lawyer to go after the dishonest insurer who he cannot even sue. What chance do you then have? NONE! Progressive will NOT defend you if it costs them a single dime!

Been with Progressive for several years now. All great and good when they are simply taking your money every month. But watch out if you have any type of claim or issue with your policy! My daughter's friend had an accident while driving her truck. Her own insurance was more than willing and able to cover the cost of claim. Progressive was having no part of that, and rather than dealing with the added work of handling 2 insurance companies, they decided to just ADD her friend to my POLICY!!! Without my permission! Despite the fact that they claimed that they sent me immediate notices of this, I did not find about till 2 months later when I got an email notice for my premium deduction which had TRIPLED! When calling to inquire about this, was told that'll order to have her removed from the policy, I would have to provided proof to them that her friend does not live with us.
How does one do that? How do you provide documentation that someone does NOT live with you? From there it just only gets worse... if that is possible. From Progressive debating my bank account for the higher premiums without my permission, to sending out wrong bills, to having an automatic deduction taken out in addition to the increase and then still have the audacity to send out a cancellation notice for the incorrect balance. That's just the billing issues. They still refuse to have the driver at faults insurance get involved because they said, "Well! The claim has already been paid by us, so it's just easier this way!" The claims adjust or even so far as to strongly encourage my daughter to also get her truck fixed because she would "have a check sent directly to her, and she could do whatever she wanted with the money."
Luckily my college-aged daughter saw through this, and refused saying she didn't want my premium to increase. There were a number of other errors or " hiccups", as one employed insulting called it, but if I continue, I will throw myself into a tizzy again. So, when my policy is up for renewal next month, who wants to bet how much the premium increase will be? Never in all my years have I dealt with a more unprofessional, fraudulent company. I'm not resting until this gets resolved. Please don't get yourself involved with Progressive if you ever plan on actually using their service.

When I called and got the accurate information from the Commissioner's office, then they backed down and said, "Well it was their Progressive's policy." It has been a horrible experience. I would suggest doing whatever you can to avoid having to deal with Progressive!

I have been doing business with USAA for over 40 years and have trusted them with every aspect of my life. But when I bought an RV, USAA sent me to Progressive for insurance. One can not deal with these people!!! For nearly 5 years I have ask the question, "Why am I paying full insurance all year at over $800 when I only use the RV 3-4 months of that year?" I even had a broken leg and pulled tendons in the other and have not been able to drive it for 2 years and still they have charged me the full year. Now, I find out from other RVers that it was possible to place the RV in a hold mode, paying less than half when it is not in use.
I called again yesterday to renew and ask the question again and was told "no" again. One of the first questions that they ask you is "how many days a year do you use the RV?" I drive to TX (2 days) park it for 3-4 months and drive home (2 days) for a normal year, all for $812. Nothing was said again about a "hold" period. I feel like I have been robbed!!!! And I am madder than hell that I have been taken by Progressive and in turn that USAA supports them. I have paid close to $800 a year for nearly 5 years, when it should have been half of that. Thank you for listening. I live on a small retirement income and this is a big deal for me.

I've been with Progressive for over 5 years and fall into their "Diamond Tier". You would think that prices go down but they actually go up. Well, she found someone that would do full coverage for $40 less a month- around $99 a month. Could not get over that. To add on against Progressive, she was floored at what some of my coverage was set to (they had my policy stacked.. when it's just one car. Then they gave me the run around about liability and many other things). I'm new to the state I'm in and they were telling me the state requires this and that.. when they don't. Don't believe the commercials. I don't understand how they have so many when they do such a poor job.

Then I call the rental car company Enterprise that is located in Globe Arizona only to find out they required an additional $50 deposit to get the car. Progressive refuses to pay for the deposit for me. I do not think that I should have to pay any out of pocket money to obtain a rental car that is already covered within my coverage. Also the additional $500 deductible to get the car replaced as it was deemed a total loss. Progressive tells you one thing but then retracts from their coverage. They will resort to anything to avoid honoring coverages and abiding by the agreement within the contract. Stay far away from this insurance company as they will at all cost avoid paying coverages.

Well, the first month bill came and it was $1477 and when we asked them that 60% increase their response was that there was a claim on a policy we had with them previously that they paid out about $3200. We knew there was an incident happened in a windy day when our trailer door came unlatch and made a little scratch on receiving door. We took a pic and sent it to progressive, but no one ever contact us about it and that was it. Now we noticed we are in a progressive ditch or trap that we cannot get out because of that claim they placed in our record. The second month bill came up while we are trying to find something else. Ow my god it was $3623 and that was the end of my business. Having a one truck and one driver with progressive policy for two months (6/9 - 8/9/14) cost me about $3500. Progressive auto insurance ads, one after another, state they are lower than the competition... what a crock. The fact is they are no different than the rest of the pack! Their goal is to squeeze every cent from you they can, I'm sure in part to pay for their endless deceiving TV ads. Recently I decided to shop my insurance company. I should add currently my house insured through Progressive, so I went to their website to get a quote. I entered all my info and received a 6 month quote of 250.00, which was close to 50% less than my current carrier. The coverage was for a 2011 Buick La Crosse full premium policy, w/ 250.00 deductible. As I was about to enter my credit card information the screen changed to $720.00 for the same 6 month period. (I have an unblemished driving record. There were 3 reported incidents during the past two and a half years all at NO FAULT i.e. hail, parking lot hit and run. My current insurer had not raised my premium.)
I called their service line.. was told one of the incidents was reported at fault, I asked even if this were true (which it was not), Progressive would increase my policy charge by approx $1000.00 a year? "Hey.. isn't that why we currently all pay the high premiums you demand, to cover that possible unpredictable incidents?" I was told to go ahead and pay the $720.00 and I could later dispute the charge.. yah sure! This was a wake up call not only for me, but for all who may be insured through Progressive... SHOP and check the fine print... I know my home insurer will change.

Incident: A car registered in Canada rolled over and hit the bumper of my car. Actions taken: Sent pictures, contact number and lic. plate to Progressive. Response: Spent two weeks to run the license plate information and the rep, Todd ** searched the CA database, not Canadian database. I called to get an update on my status. Hit voice mail and had to play phone tag for a few days. No response from the rep again. After more waiting and contacting Progressive again, they updated me that they will use the phone of the other party to gather insurance info. This they could have done two weeks ago. Contacted claims again. They tell me to wait or pay deductible to get my car fixed even though I was not at fault. Tried to see who I could contact to switch to a different rep, the customer service guy "Eric S" dropped the conversation immediately and logged out (image attached). Recommendation: AllState or AAA, not worth paying Progressive and getting the worst customer service.

After years with Progressive Insurance, we received a refund check for 1 month premium. When I contacted them to see what it was for I was told we had been cancelled. Never having missed a payment or made a claim I inquired why. They said it's because we had not given them a valid "parking verification" by the October 1st deadline (the check had been received on October 6th). I asked what a parking verification was since I had never heard of such a thing. They said it's proof of where we park our cars at night. I said "In our garage which is attached to our house which is the same address it's always been". They said, "I'm sorry but it wasn't received by the 10/1 due date so you've been cancelled and labeled as non-renewal status".
Again, I asked why? Aren't we exactly what any insurance company would love to have? Someone who always pays on time and never makes a claim? Has perfect driving records, my husband and I both. Their response was this "We can rewrite a policy for you now but your rates will be doubled. We back-dated your cancellation for September 1st so now you're listed as an uninsured driver for more than 30 days and therefore high risk". Apparently, they sent us an email in July telling us we needed to do this (never got it) and never said another word to us. Can this possibly be legal? I've never heard such a thing. Also, my husband and I may have had our licenses suspended. Something we will have to check on. Is anyone else receiving this rubbish? This is nothing more than a way of increasing our rates since we didn't give them any other reason to. I feel like I fell into the twilight zone. If I'm paying a higher rate anyway, I'll be paying it to someone else. Progressive won't get another dime from me.

My car was hit by a fellow, whom was later arrested for another incident, while parked in front of my home. I was told by my rep that I have to get the police report, and relay to him the information that was on it. I found it rather odd that I had to do the foot work for a company that does not pay me, but for the sake of my vehicle, I did what was asked of me. The detective that is handling my case told me that it is my Insurance Company responsibility to retrieve the information of a person whom was arrested pertaining to an accident claim. The detective informed me that his hours were Monday-Thursday, 8am-5pm. I informed my rep of the information given to me by the detective, and left his number. The representative assigned to me is in Ohio; I live in California. We are in two different time zones. In addition, my representative was off on Wednesdays.
After waiting a whole week without any type of follow up, came across this page on my timeline, I didn't realize I liked it. I wrote a couple of complaints, and was asked to send a private message. That was progress to me. In addition to sending a message, I requested a new representative, and to make a formal complaint. A supervisor, whom took over my claim, contacted me, and let me know that she will do everything she could to get my claimed resolved. I am taking her word for it. I informed her that I do believe the different time zones plays a factor in the lack of communication between the Detective located in California, and the Rep. located in Ohio. She agreed. Also, she informed me that my former rep. did call the police station on Friday, and was told that the detective wouldn't be in until Monday. She seemed perfectly content with that information, and confident in her reassurance.
HERE IS THE PROBLEM. I gave the former rep the Detectives number on Sunday. Had my rep called the detective in regards to my report on Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday. He would have known that the voice mail of the Detective clearly states his hours of availability. The fact that the rep claims to have called on a Friday tells me two things: Either my former rep does not know how to keep notes, and simply is treating my case as if it’s an inconvenience for him, and not me. OR, he let my claim sit a whole 3 days, ignored direct emails, and messages pertaining to what I was told by the detective in regards to retrieving readily available information.
It’s funny that he did not tell me, or the other owner that he attempted to call on Friday, but told his supervisor that he did after finding out that he was no longer handling my claim. And, for the Supervisor whom called the Detective herself, and was directed to his voice mail, to not have picked up on the fact that the voice mail states "My hours are Monday-Thursday", and not seemed to be bothered by the fact that her subordinate admitted to not calling until days later. My former rep had all the time in the world to tell me what to do, and where to go, but did not have time to make a phone call to the only person whom had the information he was looking for readily available.
One more thing, when I informed my former rep that my car was inoperable, he said to me, "Just get a spare, and replace the damage tire that was hit by the other car. Trying driving with that to make sure it isn't the alignment that is damaged". I am unsure if he labeled my car inoperable. I don't know anyone who would tell someone to alter anything on a car that has not been assess by a professional. By the way, no one has come out to take photos of my car, or assess the damages. I guess I have to wait for someone from Ohio to fly out to Southern California to do that too.
I really want a local rep to handle my case, and not someone thousands of miles away. I will give the new rep a chance, but after a week, I will request for a rep in California. It funny how the detective whom I am sure is busy calls me back when I call him and leave a message, and even has answered his phone at one point. But, Progressive is having such a hard damn time contacting him. He is not obligated to get in touch with Progressive. Progressive is obligate to do what it takes to get in touch with him. I don't care if you have to call every hour, on the hour. I want the service I pay for. I deserve it. The former Rep. that handled my case was unprofessional, and I strongly suggest "re-training". This is the second week and counting. I am still paying for service that I am not getting.

We have had Progressive Ins. for 2 yrs and pay our bill on time every month. We recently had our car vandalized and our stereo system stolen. We filed with Progressive that same day and then took our car to Maaco for repairs. It took several days for someone to go out and look at the car and then no one even contacted us to tell us what they found. So we had to constantly call and leave messages. Finally the claims adjuster assigned to our claim got back to us and told us that because it was vandalism that it required a special investigation. We had to sign papers to allow them to remove oil and fluids from our car. This took another week then another week before anyone got back to us. We called our claims adjuster daily and emailed her and it took her days to contact us and it was never by phone only email.
Finally after a month went by she told my husband that they found that the vandalism was not done intentionally by us and that she was going to total the car out and offer him an amount to give her a few days. So after a week, we still had not heard anything so we called her again and emailed and finally after another week she told us that she needed our phone records and bank statements to move forward with the claim. We were not willing to release our personal info with all the fraud going on. Besides it is not necessary. We have had full coverage on our vehicles for 2 years for nothing. When we told our adjuster that we were unable to get those documents, she told us that our claim would be denied and this is after telling us that she was going to pay us for the car.
Our car has now been sitting at Maaco for 6 weeks with nothing being done. We since have cancelled our policy and would not ever recommend Progressive to anyone. We are just going to pay for repairs out of our own pocket. We have never experienced anything like this before with any other insurance company. They do not communicate with their customers despite numerous messages that we left, so buyers beware. Do not choose Progressive.
Updated on 12/18/2014:
After telling the adjuster how I felt about how my claim was being handled I did not hear from her for another month and I had to do something with my car because it had been sitting at MAACO for several months by this point. So I went ahead and paid for the repairs out of my own pocket. The entire car had to be sanded and repainted including inside around the doors, and this alone cost me over a thousand dollars, not to mention the fact that my headlights had been damaged as well and had be entirely replaced which cost me another $240, and last but not least my stereo system had been stolen and it was worth $1800. Finally I got an email stating that Progressive was prepared to give me $1400 for my car and that I could keep the vehicle provided I go down to motor vehicle dept and pay to have my car inspected in order to change my title to salvaged.
I was not expecting to get any money from them so I was happy to at least get reimbursed for the paint job I had to pay for myself. I went down to motor vehicles the very next day to get the title taken care of and after waiting in line for an hour or so I was informed that yes, I could get a salvaged title but would not be able to drive the car at all and would have to submit the plates and the registration would be void. Then I was going to have to pay more fees to have the car inspected in order to change the title to salvaged restored then pay for the plates and registration all over again when in fact I had just bought new plates and paid for emissions and renewed my registration for 2 years.
By this time I was so fed up and frustrated with Progressive. I had been an excellent customer for 2 years paying my bills on time every single time and I was having the hardest time getting them to approve my claim. I was out over $3000 between the damages to my vehicles and the stolen stereo system and I was only going to get $1400 but only after getting a salvaged title. I called the adjuster and told her that I was NOT willing to get a salvaged title and that it was not right or fair that I was going to have to pay all this money in order to change my title and be able to drive my car and that all I wanted was to have my car repaired and then at the end I at least wanted to be reimbursed for the repairs that I had paid for out of my own pocket.
I even told Progressive that I was not concerned about the stolen stereo system but just wanted the repairs paid for. Unfortunately Progressive was NOT willing to pay me for the damages and repairs to my car. They basically treated me like a criminal and wanted me to prove that I had not damaged the car myself and then even after they were satisfied with my innocence they were still unwilling to give me a check. They made the whole process a nightmare, and they continued to insist that I changed the title or they would not give me the check for the $1400 they offered me to total out my car. My only other option they said was to let them take the car and they would give me a little more money, but after I had just paid to repaint my car and replace the headlights, I was not willing to do this nor was I willing to change my title. The only way Progressive will pay on a claim when car is totaled is by having the owner change his title to salvaged title.
I have since cancelled my policy with them and given them bad reviews, and I will continue to warn people not to purchase their insurance with Progressive. I have never before experienced anything this frustrating and ridiculous. I only hope my story help other people avoid the same mistake I made by purchasing Progressive insurance and being sucked in by their commercials, which DO NOT REFLECT how their company truly operates.

I have tested multiple snapshot devices in vehicles and noticed one glaring flaw with the program. With police officers along, we have documented that snapshot is designed to penalize the driver if the driver approaches a stop light intersection and the light turns yellow requiring the driver to safely stop. When the decision to safely stop is made and carried out, the snapshot device goes off. Progressive would prefer the driver step on it and run through the light. Even though you could make it through the light entering the intersection while the light may still be yellow, this is not recommended by any police department or drivers education due to the unsafe nature of it and the possibility of ending up in an accident.
When Progressive was shown the proof, they simply said that this was the way their snapshot program was designed and refused to do anything about it. Any reduction in speed of 7 miles per hour or greater per second will trigger snapshot and penalize the safe driver. This was found to happen very frequently in town on roads that have posted speeds of 40 or 45 MPH with stop light intersections. Try going up a hill to a stop light going the posted speed of 45 and coming to a very reasonable, almost gentle stop, and have your passenger witness try and see the reduction in speed per second and you will find that it equals or exceeds the 7 MPH in a second which triggers snapshot.
This will happen almost every time a car approaches a stop light and it turns at the final second when it is still SAFE to come to a complete stop. There are also blogs where many drivers have figured out how to get their discount from snapshot and their exact wording has been that they modified their driving habits to speed up through stop light intersections versus making the proper decision to come to a safe stop when they saw the light turn.
Progressive should be sued by everyone who ends up in accidents due to this very improper approach to stopping safely for a turning light at an intersection. I don't approve of TV advertisements with lawyers going fishing for cases against insurance companies, but when an insurance company like Progressive with its Snapshot program promotes unsafe driving and rewards those drivers while depriving the safe drivers of their discounts because they refuse to unsafely modify their driving, then that Insurance company should lose everything.

However, my car came back with multiple dings and scratches that were not there when I turned over my vehicle to their towing company. I am an honest person. If the dings were there I wouldn't have brought it up, but they weren't. Progressive sent me a letter yesterday saying they will not take responsibility for the additional damage done to my car. Just received an email back regarding my inquiry confirming that Progressive will not take responsibility to the additional damage to my car after I put it into their care.
Word to the wise, if you are in an accident, do not put your car into the care of the auto body shop that is recommended by the other insurance company and do not allow them to tow your vehicle. It's possible you may end up with damage to your vehicle when it returns that wasn't there prior and it's your word against theirs. So instead they will let the single mom pay for the dings and scratches to be removed. Thanks Progressive... I will never be "switching" to you.

I found out through My bank statement that My escrow is in the negative $269.00 this year for Homeowner's insurance as the rate went from $545 to $860 with no notice not even the renewal contract that they according to DOI (Department Of Insurance) was suppose to be sent out for Me to review 15 days before payment is deducted. I called this company and their customer service department has the scripted explanations down now about it cost $200,000.00 to rebuild My home blah, blah, blah... Not buying that line of crap.
My house was built in 1965 and isn't worth that kind of Money. No home on the road I live on is, plus over 75% of My home is brick. Customer service needs education when it comes to homes catching on fire because I have yet to see a home that is all brick burn all the way to the ground. When I told Rep that they try to feed Me the line brick veneer which is the faux brick over board is cheaper to replace maybe I should look into getting this instead of solid brick, My answer was, "Are You people crazy?" Rate hike is all fake, so they can pocket big bucks with no claims. They are getting free money for nothing.
This insurance company is being reported as soon as I clear up a few facts, which is their practices of not informing Me of rate hikes as required by DOI and I am still wanting to know why my insurance rates went up. I never ask for My home to be insured for over $200,000.00. For that much money I could buy another home and have money left. At best My home is only worth $80,000 as it sits on the market and that is with the land. This is Outrageous. As for Progressive car insurance I was with the company before they got a FLO and the only thing about Progressive is their rates. Ever wonder why they got a FLO? They named Her right. Your money FLO's right into their pockets. Every renewal rates get Progressively Higher so FLO can have a job. If they don't get you a lower rate they will never tell you either. I am looking to FLO to another insurance company and save.

I just purchased an Xterra the day before when I got ran into a vehicle at a stop light. The cars in the lane next to me started forward and I was looking at them not noticing that the front vehicle (I was about 5 cars behind) had not started forward for some reason. Consequently, I let off the brake when almost instantly I felt a bump. I slammed on the brakes (not once accelerating in the 5 feet that I traveled). I had run into an older SUV - which was not in good shape as evidenced by the duct tape holding up the driver's side tail light. My Xterra had the license plate get knocked off (I was able to re-screw it in so no damage to my vehicle) and it went up over their bumper leaving a 3 inch scrape on their hatch. The driver refused to pull over until she called the police.
Finally, she pulled over and we exchanged info. The policeman showed up and asked what happened. I told him and showed him the damage. He asked if we exchanged info and said that it did not warrant any citation nor a report and he left. Progressive at first said that I was not insured with them for this vehicle. I let them know several times that I would not have been able to drive a used car with a loan off the lot without insurance. They had admitted that I had talked to them so eventually (45 DAYS later) they said I was covered but then said that the damage was $2200 plus so therefore my insurance premium would be DOUBLED!!! They did not even TRY to challenge the $2200 amount by the claimant. I said hasta la vista and got a much better deal with Allstate! For the record, I have ZERO tickets of ANY kind in over 10 years nor did I have ANY accidents in over 10 years prior to this incident!!! Now, I get calls from insurance people who know all my information all day long! Coincidence?

The man just finished dumpster diving, was in vehicle - car was on. I took pictures of the license plate, side of impact. Not a scratch of color from me - my car had his. 3 weeks into it, no contact from van. I have full coverage + this includes collision. Now I am to pay deductible because they can’t contact owner. Information was given and they still want me to pay 500.00 even though it’s not my fault. TOTAL damage is 700.00. Ridiculous that I’m to pay 500.00 and Progressive 200.00. Rental car coverage, not totaled, work won’t be done in one day. All this coverage is paid - when this happens they are reluctant to pay. Huge rip off. Never will I recommend them to anyone!

I had an accident in my car due to hazardous road conditions. I was trying to drive home during a blizzard and slid off the road and into a patch of trees. The passenger's side of my car was scratched from the branches. The police were not involved in the incident. Progressive considered me to be at-fault and jacked my rates up by $200 a month. The original representative that I began the claim with transferred me to another person, who in turn, passed my claim along to someone else. I finally got to the bottom of who ultimately claimed me to be at fault. I called a number of times and left messages for this person. She did not call me back. This was extremely frustrating. Additionally, they kept my car for over a month and returned it to me on complete empty (the light was even on). I know I had a full tank when the car went into the shop. Welcome to "BEND OVER AND GET SCREWED" company. I been with this ins. co. for over 3 yrs and I can say out of the other major insurance companies we had in the past, this one is the worst when it comes to claims or service. They are cheap and expect cheap service. Reason I am so dissatisfied: I sold my motor home and wanted to cancel the policy and they made me pay an extra month of coverage telling me a bunch of bs and it's in the fine print that if you cancel earlier than 1 yr you pay penalty and you get sent to collections if you don't pay...RIP OFF. I filed a claim for scratches made in a parking lot on our car ($1800 in repairs) and they do not want to cover it, again with bs that they (adjuster) insist taking the car to their shop to have the deep scratches buffed out (not possible, too deep scratched) and I have to pay out of pocket. We still don't have this fixed 2 months later. BOTTOM LINE, somehow you will find out the hard and painful way. This company is DIS-HONEST and will RIP OFF you and everyone else they can. I hope I/we all switch soon.

I accepted the Snapshot challenge in April of 2014. I own a 2006 corvette and I liked the idea. Knowing I was being monitored would help me control my impulse to "Test" the power of this vehicle and that it did. In the 6 months I used this device I never got the urge to drive it like I would in my younger years. The problem is the hard braking scam. The first week I was particularly gentle with my car to make sure I did not get any hard brakes during my 30 day trial period. In my 2nd week, I decided to stop at a yellow light that a more aggressive driver would have ran through. This caused my 1st beep, so I thought. I went home and looked up my record to find out I had 11 hard brakes in 2 weeks and that one light I stopped at was 5 of them (40mph-0).
I said ok maybe my driving is wrong so lets get even more cautious. For the next 12 days I had 1 hard brake. However I found myself so focused on not hard braking that I would not stop at yellow light and I likely ran some run red lights. This was becoming ridiculous and much more dangerous. I started just to drive normal again. This resulted in an average of over 10 hard-brakes per week for every 80 non-highway miles over the next 4 months. Now the trial is over my new premium has gone up 28%. Not bad for someone who hasn't had a ticket or accident in 20+ years.
The theory and program of this device is sound but it doesn't fair well at all in the real world. Its actually dangerous. I cannot believe this device hasn't killed someone. There will be some legal ramifications when someone gets killed because the driver didn't want his "snapshot" to beep. This is the biggest scam I have ever fallen for. I will be dropping this company forever when my policy is up. I will also be making sure everyone I know hears about this scam. I now cringe every time I see Flo knowing I paid for that commercial in some way.

They later said they had to change the claim to a different policy because the insurance information Donna ** gave me wasn't hers so they put the new claim into her policy (also Progressive).
After almost A MONTH (today is Sep10th) I haven't been able to talk with the claims representative even though I have called and leave multiple messages almost daily. It always goes to voice mail and she doesn't call back. Talked to another representative to heard that the best person to talk is the assigned claim representative because she is the one making the decisions! Uh?! But she doesn't even answer the phone. They also informed me that the claim doesn't move forward because they can't contact Donna **! who conveniently is not answering the phone and opening her mail and who happen to be a lawyer working the system to get away from paying a bumper! (double uh?!). I can't imagine if it was a major accident!
Progressive initially was insisting I used my policy for the repair and paid the deductible and they don't seem to be making any effort to contact this dishonest person and they don't answer the phone after a month of the incident even though both policies are from Progressive. They aren't doing anything for my claim, just waiting I use my own policy for an incident I wasn't at fault.. Never imagine after years of using this insurance company without any claims that it would be so frustrating and disappointing dealing with them. All I paid for was a piece of paper without any protection! If I could could not give a star, I would. I have to agree with all the complaints on here regarding Progressive customer services and claims. I had updated my policy on August 4, 2014 to include full coverage especially since my car is financed and changed the lien holder. I was in an accident on August 22nd. Progressive will not fight for you nor will they stand behind claims. I am not the party at fault. It is clearly the other party's fault for speeding, trying to hurry to make a left hand turn, driving down a suicide lane (broken yellow lines that are used for left or right turns in and out of businesses) and hitting a stopped vehicle.
Upon filing my claim the night it all happened the rep that I spoke with informs me that I do not have full coverage on my car that includes collision (excuse me I made the change on August 4th). She proceeds to tell me to not do anything to the policy until my adjuster calls me. On Saturday the adjuster calls. She tells me the same thing that I do not have coverage but not to do anything until she "investigates" the issue to find out why. They are closed Sunday, she's off on Monday. I call on Tuesday 7 times and leave messages and she never calls me back. I call again on Wednesday on my way to work at 8am, inform her that I would be available until 845am.
When 845 hit, she still had not called, so I called again. This time she answers. She proceeds to yell at me for not doing anything to my policy to be full coverage. Excuse me she told me not to do anything until she "investigated" the issue. Come to find out she had done nothing on my claim, hadn't contacted the other insurance or attempted to contact the other driver. At this point, I'm more frustrated as before because it's now 5 days and nothing has been done to my car no adjuster or the like to let me know my next step.
Mind you I have rented a car which is out of my pocket and expensive since it was the weekend and then the following weekend is a holiday. She states they can't do anything because of the policy. I have stated numerous times that I have a letter that states what coverage needed to be on my car. The adjuster sarcastically states, "That letter does me no good." Excuse me you obviously received the lien holder change but when it comes to a full coverage so that a car can be fixed (which Progressive would have to fork out money to do) you won't stand behind the change let alone your product.
I asked to speak to her supervisor. She tells me that I don't need to be rude. Excuse me who is rude here, the policy holder that is trying to get something done to their car or the adjuster that is sitting on her lazy butt and not doing anything? She hangs the phone up on me. I call and get the CEO of the company number, leave a message on the voice on Friday before the Labor Day weekend.
It must be really nice to get paid big bucks and never answer your phone. So Tuesday after Labor Day comes, from 8am to 630pm I am on the phone every chance I could during my work day to fight with anyone I could to get this resolved and something done with my car. A broker was to take over my policy to help with the fight and wouldn't you know, Progressive denied that change. I left yet another message on the CEO voice mail. I then received a call from the California Claims Director. What good did that do? Absolutely nothing. Again they will not stand behind a change that was clearly made before the accident occurred.
I have been in touch with the other insurance, and wouldn't you know it, Progressive had never let them know that I had already recorded a statement and forwarded that over to them. There had been no contact from my side to them and all this time Progressive was stating they were calling the other insurance. Excuse me but who is supposed to be fighting here? I am on an auto payment every month for almost 3 years for what this has been a complete waste of hard-earned money that I could of had to a reputable insurance company that doesn't treat their insured person like crap.
I'm sure that if I was an illegal immigrant or from overseas that they would have been right out to my house accessing the damage to my vehicle, getting it fixed and me back on the road. But no, I am a hardworking American that barely lives paycheck to paycheck and now having to rent a car on funds that needs to go to pay bills.

However my experience was still sooooo bad that I will never do any business with this circus of an insurance company. The computer system had a glitch one month refunded me my payment and cancelled my policy. So I speak with a representative that was very nice and understood my situation so she patched me through to her supervisor who was a total nightmare to deal with.
The supervisor refused to hear me out and said she cannot reinstate my policy due to it had been cancelled too long. I asked her when was it cancelled she said on the fifth of the month. I said ok why wasn't I informed? She said we did inform you the letter was sent out on the 19th. I say but today is the 20th how was I to know. Then she said she couldn't reinstate the account because the computer system told her not to. She then went on a sales pitch for me to start a new policy and pay $500 down. I asked why is $500 down when I first started my policy I paid only $170 down.
She said it was because of the cancelled account and acknowledged there was a glitch with the new system where other people called in with the same issue and told me they renewed their policy with the $300 down. I did not believe that anyone would have just paid $300 down and be understanding that a multibillion dollar company screwed up and couldn't eat the cost of those that suffered from their mistake. I will never recommend progressive or do any business with them. I found a better policy cheaper rate and three times the amount of coverage through another company. Beware.

I changed from Geico to Progressive a little under a year ago because, as all the commercials state, they can provide lower insurance costs. Well, this is true, but only by a couple of bucks (and I mean like $5/month). But pennies are pennies, so I switched. I've switched auto insurance carriers before in North Carolina, off policy anniversary too, and never once have I been hit with what's called a Short Rate penalty. Until today, with Progressive.
This penalty is not required by law, it is an option that insurance companies can choose to employ if you cancel your policy before the anniversary date. Well Progressive is one of those carriers that does. Progressive doesn't tell you about this Short Rate penalty when you sign up with them but does bury, and I mean bury, the words at the tail end of your 48 page Policy Contract. Since I've never had an issue cancelling with an insurance company before, I never knew about such a thing. There is a SINGLE sentence about this Short Rate in your Policy Contract, "the premium owed or premium refund due will be calculated according to the short rate provisions contained in our manuals", and nowhere is the insured informed as to what this actually means or is given access to the "provisions contained" in their "manuals".
When I was informed of the penalty, which was equal to a half of my monthly insurance rate and more than three times the savings I've earned in the past year from switching to Progressive from Geico, I was, of course, extremely upset. On top of it all, I find out this prorated charge is not only based on your policy premium but the monthly installment fees they charge you.
The customer service representatives can be extremely rude too. All the first one wanted to do was repeat over and over that I signed the Policy Contract which contained the provision. She was not emphatic or informative, and actually copped an attitude with me (basically, "suck it up, lady" is how she talked to me). After I hung up and went back to my Policy Contract to find the exact wording, and realizing how vague it was, I called back to talk to a Supervisor. While he did have a better attitude, all he wanted to do was read to me from the North Carolina Insurance Commissioners website what Short Rate meant. Again, nowhere did it say Progressive HAD to employ this penalty, only that they COULD.
Progressive refuses to concede that point however and he would not reduce my penalty, except by reprorating it based on the exclusion of the monthly installment fees (which saved VERY little). It was at this time I found out as well that the first customer service representative, who knew which date I wanted to cancel on and had given me a rate based on that date, had given me an inaccurate rate. When I brought this to the supervisor's attention, he gave me another $2 off the penalty. Wow, two bucks, really?
I will never again use Progressive for any service and I caution any of you looking to switch to Progressive to think long and hard about doing so as well. Is the few dollars you save a month really worth the peace of mind you get knowing that these other companies, like Geico (which I can attest to), are always straight forward with you about pricing and don't employ such shady tactics. Shame on you Progressive.

It has been over 3 weeks and still nothing. I took my car to the shop Progressive has their office located. There is over $1000 worth of damage on my car that they say is not from the accident, but other shops say they should have covered it. The estimate for what they did is hundreds of dollars cheaper than the other shops for the same repair and I am uncertain it was done properly. Progressive offers a discount if you are a good driver. They furnish a device called "Snapshot" that plugs into your car's computer connection. This is a good idea but the plan was poorly thought out or engineered. The biggest example I can give is that if you live in the west where there are mountains and drive those mountains, you will get a poor rating because Progressive concentrates most of their rating on braking. As you know, when you go downhill, you normally have to brake a lot. The days I went up the mountain near me to go fishing, I was rated poor because I had what Progressive called excessive braking. No kidding. Progressive is in Florida and their engineers possibly have never seen or driven a mountain. I would recommend that if you live in the west, don't take advantage of their "Snapshot" program.

If my old van was involved in a wreck even though it was insured by the party that bought it from me, would Progressive step up and pay for it? I think not. What Goes Around!

I went trough Progressive Insurance on 6/3/14 and cancelled my policy 7/28/14. This insurance company is so disorganized and play with your money. The representatives all act computerized and are no help. I have been caused nothing but stress and anxiety. Almost daily my premiums were adjusted with an increase of course and supposedly you manage your own account. NOT SO. Now they want even more money from me. I now have insurance through GEICO for barely over half of the cost, with the same coverage and I do not have to pay for an agent. BOTTOM LINE IS - THEY ARE THE WORST.

Don't sign up for Snapshot with Progressive. I received literature in the mail that all you had to do to qualify for a discount is agree to have the little Snapshot contraption connected to your car for 6 months. Well, it's been 6 months and now I am told now that it has to stay on another 3 months (my renewal time). Which is fine, but so far I have only had a slight discount.
What they monitor is 1) Whether you brake fast. If you do brake hard, you hear a beep which they record. So I guess it's better to hit another car than to brake to avoid it, by braking hard...? 2) How often do you drive from midnight to 4 AM (never) and 3) How often do you drive more than 50 miles in a day (I walk to work since it's a 10-minute walk and easier). No accidents, tickets etc. so not sure why I even agreed to this. I'm disappointed in you Flo! I feel the stars I gave are fair. Can't give a high star for coverage since I've never had put in a claim.

I have been a loyal customer of Progressive for 10 years, "diamond member" in that time frame. I have made every payment on time totaling over $40,000. I have full coverage insurance on 2 vehicles, liability on one. The motor in my old truck finally went out so I decided to buy a new vehicle. The dealership informed me that since I have full coverage on other vehicles, I had 30 days to add on the new one. The same day I bought the truck, I crushed in the quarter panel. Estimated repair - $3000. I have only had 1 claim in 10 years costing progressive $1500. But I was informed the truck was within the 30 day window but they were not liable for fixing the damage. I don't understand? Also good luck trying to get a claims rep. to call you back. I sent all the paperwork they asked for and got nothing but a rude response from someone who is suppose to be helpful.

Now, instead of me contacting Progressive and paying my past due amount and reinstating, Progressive wants me to pay the entire amount of my policy to reinstate!!! Unbelievable!!
I have always kept my promises to this company, kept full coverage on my vehicles, never had a claim. Yet now when I need my company to help me (which is within their power), their company's greed and has outweighed their sense of customer service. I will switch companies as soon as I can!!!

It's crazy how one interaction with a specific person can change your whole perspective on this huge insurance comp... I am for sure shopping around and looking at all the reviews before sticking with a specific ins company. Ms. Ashley ** was very unprofessional. I understand you may have personal problems or you might not like your job but it's not the consumer's fault. We are already dealing with losing our transportation to have more stress in frustration put on you like Ms. ** did...
Every time I would speak to her she would seem frustrated, annoyed and giving me short answers and rushing me off the phone, like really? Does it bother you to talk to me? The only thing I was worried about was to see if my vehicle was going to be paid to my finance comp in full and if I needed to sign any documents to speed the process a little more... At one point she even placed me on hold without noticing I could still hear what she was saying and let me tell you the language she was using was really foul. Rather than explain my accident against Progressive, I would like to explain what this company does to avoid paying out any claims. They have come up with endless scenarios to stall, lie, overcharge, deny, steal, and blame everyone so as never to pay a claim. How they are allowed to operate such a blatant scam is what everyone that has had bad experiences with them would like to know. Heavy TV ads have sucked in millions of hapless drivers at over inflated prices, only to find out how deceptive they are. Anyone trying to get paid for an accident from Progressive is chasing their tail. How long they can operate as a rip off insurance company is anyone's guess, but with all the millions they scam, and all the politicians they buy, it will take awhile. If they are forced out of business from the millions of complaints about them, they will leave behind a lot of customers and claimants holding the bag.
My advise is to AVOID THEM LIKE A PLAGUE and tell Flo she may get rich now, but she is finished in the future, as no one will ever believe her again. I would be happy to join a class action lawsuit against Progressive, as I'm sure many of you out there would.

5 o'clock, St Patrick's Day in a busy strip mall parking lot. Parking lot just packed and people coming from every direction. Police report dispatch: witness says lots of damage to a 1995 Chevy, 1500 pickup truck and the lady did not stop. Owner of the trucks states on please report: "I cannot tell if there is new damage to the previous damage on my truck but it looks as if tail pipe was pushed down from original position."
I did not hit this vehicle sold to prove so I trust Progressive Insurance whom I hold my policy through. I set up an appointment for them to look at my vehicle and prove that I did not do it. I'm told by the guy who looked over my vehicle at Progressive Insurance that there is no way I could push in the tailpipe and not have any kind of mark on my undamaged Dodge Durango. Days later Progressive turned on me after getting a copy of the police report.
I now am out $600 in wages for 3 days of court and afraid of getting in trouble do to my Insurance co. who now paid a scam claim. Progressive paid to fix the frame, body and bumper but no tailpipe. I investigated myself with a camera and will report both Progressive and the truck owner. The witness thought I did all the old damage not understanding it wouldn't be all rusty, the guy ran with it and Progressive saved money not investigating plus now gets higher premiums. Too bad I got pictures of all that existing damage up close because when they sent over the estimates they didn't cover up the guy's address and I took my buns right over and took pictures. He was hiding in an abandoned parking lot across from his home, wonder why. I even send copies to Progressive and do you think they will even acknowledge me? Well, I have the evidence for a good month and they still haven't done ** about it! I even contacted their fraud department and still no word. I was assaulted a month later buy an automobile in my vehicle was not even involved.
Well, you're supposed to go to your insurance company but now they wanna play games with that too. My private accident policy paid me out two months ago for lost wages. Progressive has not yet gotten copies of doctor bills and that's what the holdup is, I was told. You mean to tell me it took you 2 months to request copies of bills? These guys are a joke!!! The judge on the hit and run will believe me, how can he not when I have pictures to prove every bit of it plus my passenger. This situation happen to good 4 months ago and Progressive has not listen to me one bit about anything. If I would not have investigate it on my own I would have never got the proof to show the judge and I would have been in a lot of the trouble all because Progressive and this man wanted to scam people. I'm a girl that wears a tool belt and I am no dummy. I had to laugh at the guy trying to explain the differences between my friend work on my Dodge in the framework on that Chevy pickup truck. Try and tell me a little dodge SUV is going to smash up a pickup truck like that just backing out of a parking spot lol, Progressive hires morons!!
Take a look at that Chevy and tell me my dogs did that damage. This is only one photo of my Dodge, believe me I have more. I just don't have them on my iPhone to Download. I'm thinking most people don't even need a picture of my truck to see that that's all damage anyway. He received $2344 and I received 3 days in court, higher premiums, 3 points on my driving record. I can't wait for the judge because I already told Progressive I will be knocking at the door to change everything when that judge clears me. After that, I'm sending in all my evidence to bust Progressive and that man and believe me both of them are gonna wish they never messed with this woman.

As if it weren't bad enough that we were completely violated by having to deal with such a traumatic situation, we had to deal with the insurance company asking for bank statements, phone records, harassing phone calls to our jobs, family members & friends! She wanted to speak to the doctor’s office to prove that my husband canceled his appt that morning after the car was stolen. She even wanted a receipt for a Redbox movie he rented the day the car was stolen! It took them 2 months to finally settle the claim!!!
I understand they have to complete an investigation, but we felt violated. We even suggested they look at the cameras at the end of the block but they refused. At this point I have not settled with insurance company but.... This has been my experience so far. Two weeks ago, I totaled my car and 4 days later Progressive adjuster called to tell me what they were willing to settle for. I did my homework as far as being prepared to know what to do and look for and thank goodness I did. They were trying the old leave the check at window for customer to sign without looking over payment. But... I asked for the adjuster to come out and go over paperwork with me. Good thing I did because they guessed at my mileage because they could not see it. There was at least 22,000 miles difference from what they had to what my actual mileage was. I told them I had a oil and filter change from Dec. to show what my mileage was and he says they do not go by that. They go by what their inspector says. He said he would get them to recheck and get back with me. At that point, I had the rental car for a week and he made me give it up that day. So they were leaving me with no transportation at all while they checked.
I am a grandmother raising a grandchild and live on a fixed income and I really could not afford to pay for a rental but I really had no choice. A couple of days later, he calls me back and states I was right and could they look at that oil and filter change receipt. Well I had several receipts from other places as well showing my mileage. So he asked me to fax those to him and I did and called him and told him and he says he is going to pull off of fax. Waits till next morning to tell me he did not receive. So I refaxed to a different number and called him again and told him to check fax and not to wait till the next day to let me know but that is exactly what happened again. Now it is Friday and he asked me to email. So I did and was very upset cause I am still paying for rental.
Here it is Monday, 2 weeks later, and he gives me another figure which is not that much more and I am not happy about the fact they refuse to pay for this rental car even though it was their mistake and dragging their feet. I am furious at the lack of concern. They will leave you stranded and they could care less. I will be getting a hold of this adjuster's supervisor but I have a feeling this is the way Progressive handles their customer's claims. They would cancel my insurance if I wasn't paying but when it comes time for them to pay out what your car is worth, the customer definitely gets the short end of the stick. March 3, 2014, I had a very minor accident where I rear ended a car with a slight bump. It was so minor that I didn't have a scratch or a dent on my car. I drive a Chevy Cruze and the car I hit was a Chevy Camaro a much bigger car. The other driver car had scuff marks like you would get on your shoe. I barely bumped her like if in passing someone and you slightly bump them. Of course at the scene the other driver was fine, but of course after talking with my insurance company they claimed injuries. When I get my renewal, the monthly payment is now $191.00 instead of the $82.00 a month. Me thinking wow that's more than double, they must have paid out a lot to this other party at least over $5000.00 for my payment to be that high. I go on the webpage and look at my claim and they only paid the other driver $500 for injuries and $1944.00 for damages which I thought was outrages for the damage because the scratch was so small. The way they was charging, I thought they paid out a million dollars.
I called and talked with Progressive, of course they thought that was reasonable. I told them they must be crazy if they think I'm going to pay that amount for such a small amount and they said because of the injuries. It made me laugh because if this person was really hurt I'm sure they would had gotten more than $500 so you know that was fake. I told them after shopping around with an accident on my record I found insurance for $130.00 month and an extra $50 a month is better than $104 extra, so consider me dropping your policy. All she could say was if that's what I want to do, Progressive do not care about losing customers because they can rip off the next one.

Purchased a 30K 2008 Turbo Diesel Sierra GMC, lovely truck, only a month ago, still haven't even registered it yet. Purchased full coverage, and the extended warranty. Take a weekend off to go camping. Driving about 20 mph up a county dirt road, has some wash boards, few pot holes, nothing that would be considered 4 wheeling, A FLAT DIRT ROAD, cars drive this regularly, and the left front tire suddenly acts like we have a flat. Pulled over, maybe 10 feet or so (we were in motion) and get out to find the wheel sitting almost side ways on the truck. So... We call the insurance company and ask that we get a pick up in the morning. "Sure, just call back in the morning."
Call back. "Oh. No. We wouldn't cover that because you didn't hit anything. Call your warranty." Had to ante up $300 for a wrecker to pick up the truck. So I call the warranty, the shop has already contacted them. "The shop said you hit something, so we don't cover that". So, brand new truck, wheel detaches at the axle, whole family in the vehicle and it's not an accident, because we didn't hit anything. Well, we hit the ground when the wheel almost detached itself from the vehicle. The truck was full of our camping gear, we hadn't even gotten to the camp site yet. We camped in the woods on the side of the road and had to hitchhike 4 people and a large golden retriever back to town.
I cannot say enough that insurance companies, warranties, and the like are only out for their dollars and in a time of real need, Progressive completely left us stranded. If we allow insurance companies to take our money and refuse to take care of their own clients, what a waste of a world we are going to live in. Thanks to the tiny hatchback driven by Nick, that picked up 4 deserted people and a big hairy dog.
The word insurance means a lot more than just a slogan to get new clients to screw over. Insurance means when something goes wrong, you are insured of the help you will get from the company you have been paying for years. Otherwise, why are we paying you at all? Maybe we should go back to putting that money into a savings account and just take care of ourselves. I can depend on me, I cannot depend on Progressive's "full coverage insurance".

The reason that I cancelled my insurance with Progressive was due to excessive cost. I paid them $283 for the 2 months that I was with them. Now they are telling me that I owe $647 more. There is no way that 2 months of insurance can cost almost $1000!!! I only had insurance with Progressive from March until May of this year 2014. $283 is plenty for 2 months of insurance. I will not pay another dime. They took it upon themselves to add my daughter to the policy, without my permission, who has been married and out of my house for a year now. She got married on 6/15/2013, and even if she wasn't, $283 is still plenty for 2 months of insurance.
I tried to explain this to them, but it fell on deaf ears. I called them and personally spoke to them to try to explain this, but they wanted me to prove it. This is unreal, I have never had to prove to any other insurance company the persons who lived in my household. It would have been very easy for them to verify her address with the post office and see that it is different than mine. Apparently he does not know what he needs and I don't have the time or the money to be taking days and time off of work. Mind you I have full coverage on my vehicle that was stolen. I don't get reimbursed for the time I have to take off work to get notarized documents for them, or to make another statement which they already have one recorded.
Every other week they would inform me they needed something else. I sent every receipt I had to my vehicle. I sent them a release of information in regards to everything including - bank statements, cell phone whereabouts, credit reports, everything except my kids. In January, my husband was incarcerated. Mind you he is still incarcerated, has not been out but yet they are asking me for his telephone number? Well, call him in the jail and see how that works out for you! I have given these people everything and then without any notice, they close my claim. I don't know anything. I looked up my policy online and the claim portion was closed. Means I pay an insurance premium for NOTHING!!! Really? Nothing! No explanation, and no offer of information or explanation.
This company makes you think they will take good care of you but they do not. They make you feel like the suspect. I can understand the need to do an investigation but this is a bit ridiculous when you have left me with NO car. Due to their reputation, I thought I made a right move in choosing Progressive until I landed into trouble. My profile: I am 33 years and 10 months old now. I obtained my first license in India at the age of 31 years and 3 Months. I entered US a year ago with a valid International Driving License. Last month, I have got MA state (driving) learner permit. As I bought a car, I got an online quote from progressive by selecting Current US or Canadian license status as "Permit". The quote came to USD 810 for 6 months. With International Driving License earlier, as my quote used to be pretty high, I was a little excited and cautious at the same time. To ensure this was a valid quote and I was making no mistake, I called up the customer service desk to make sure "Permit" on site means "Learning Permit".
She affirmed that and took some more details/double checked my data and processed the quote for USD 810. Note: At no point, there was a question on either website or from the customer support person on when I got my first license. Today, I got my insurance papers from Progressive that I was supposed to sign and send them back. I was surprised to see them quoting my driving experience as 17 while my wife (who doesn't even have learner permit/license anywhere) to possess 11 years. As I didn't want to sign something inaccurate, I called up Progressive customer support again. They did hear my concern and said that my insurance cost will be around ~2304 for 6 months with 2.5 years of driving experience (i.e. USD 1500 more than what I was initially quoted).
I inquired if they would be willing to go down from USD 2300 to any better price - since I didn't provide them false information. It was something that happened at their end for which they should have taken the responsibility. I was definitely willing to pay some what more than $810 but they were rigid on $2300. The lady over phone mentioned that I would have 1 week after which I will have to continue at higher price or move to a different insurance provider. This has been really frustrating experience as this 1. Heavily impacts my financial planning (by almost USD 1600-1700) 2.Pain in going through multiple other insurance companies and check who all provide insurance on learners permit 3. Above all a lot of time wasted with mental stress.

Then I had an accident resulting from my hitting a curb when I swerved to avoid someone who would have plowed into me if I held my ground. I was told that since there was no other party involved, I was at fault! This resulted in a significant increase in my rates. I shopped around and found out all other insurance companies would find me at fault for what amounts to avoiding a collision! So I took it on the chin.
Fast forward 3 years. My insurance renewed only 12 days before Progressive could no longer ding me for the accident. I assumed Progressive would adjust my rate then this happened. No such luck. Rather, I was going to have to pay inflated premiums until my insurance renewed 6 months later. I called them to ask why this was the case, and they told me the practice was in accordance with state regulations. I then asked if they were legally obligated to gouge me for another six months and they gave me the same answer. Clearly, they have the option to adjust the rate but would take advantage of regulations to gouge customers just a bit more. Biggest irony is that I re-quoted on line with Progressive after the accident, point came of my record and got a rate that was less than half my current rate. Bottom line is I found another company that provided the same coverage for 30% off what Progressive was charging. So much for customer loyalty.

Problem is doctors' bills are around $6,000.00. Then there's the lawyer who gets a third. I will end up with about $1,500.00. That doesn't began to cover my pain and suffering! At her work of 14 yrs., Progressive informed her that she had no health coverage on the driver on her policy because that is legal in Georgia. Her agent should have explained her change in policy in depth. She has gone with very little medical care and needs, at least 1 mri. She has an injured shoulder, neck injury, and potential head injury. So, no attorney so far will take her case because we can't get a diagnosis.
She is in terrible pain. Headaches, shoulder pain, loss of memory, falling asleep at the wheel driving her children to school. She is a hairdresser and can hardly hold her arms up to work. Not to mention, not being able to pay her rent, electric bill, tv bill and the future looks very bleak in keeping her family in their home. Progressive could have stepped in anyway and paid for the medical evaluation and had it repaid at time of settlement. We are not sure of all the consequences as of yet. So she is caught between 2 insurance companies that have taken advantage of her with nowhere to go. Why is property damage paid for first and medical care for the victim is withheld? Progressive needs to step in and help laws or no laws.

I was enrolled with Progressive insurance. I restarted my policy a few months ago and requested my payments be moved from the 22nd to the 2nd of each month. After speaking with the rep, it was confirmed my payments would be removed at the start of each month. This month, with no warning my payment came out on the 22nd. I was so angry.
When I spoke with the Progressive manager representative, she told me if I wanted a refund it would take up to 3 days to get my money back. She might be able to waive a few fees for next month. I was disgusted. How can they just take my payment out 10 days early, screw me up and then offer some removed fees like it’s some sort of favor? I hung up. Spoke with another insurance agency, with better policy offers and a much smaller monthly fee (Geico) they cancelled with Progressive for me.
Progressive is still charging me!!! They are such a huge company, they messed up big with my billing. I tried to express this to them, that since they waived fees for what would have been my next bill, waive these remaining fees. The rep. was cold and nasty with me, Ellen **. She treated me as if Progressive returning the money they took from me 10 days early was a huge favor that they have done all they could for me. I think the way I was handled was terrible. I think taking a bill from their customer that early is terrible. They are all around terrible.
Don't. Do. It.

I had 6 month car insurance policy of Progressive starting 25th of September 2013. I was paying monthly at their agent's place at Mason, OH-DOWREY-STOVER INS by cash. Just before its expiration (25th of March) I visited the agent to pay one more month. I asked them, I am going to leave USA on 17th of April, "What I should do?" My agent called Progressive while I was there. She discussed the problem with Progressive guy and said, "Just pay one more month and when your next payment will not received Progressive will cancel the policy." I left the country. My car was not in use since that time (parking at my friend's house).
Three days ago I received the following message via e-mail: "Your policy was canceled with a balance due 63$. Please note that you no longer have insurance with us, effective 05/19/2014. Although your policy canceled, there is still a balance due. Please see your payment summary below for more information." Well I still need to pay one more month for nothing! I informed Progressive beforehand about my departure from country via my agent. Despite this they didn't cancelled my car insurance in time and sent me one more month invoice! I will never do business with this company and advise everybody of my friends (in need of insurance) to do the same!

So I signed up with Progressive. It was $100 a month. They also asked me to agree to a $100 fee for signing up or something-I-can't-remember. A month or two into the policy, I got a better rate from Liberty Mutual, so I cancelled the policy and went with Liberty. Now Progressive has sent me notices since 2010 to pay the $100 sign up fee. Why the hell would I pay anything for a policy I cancelled? Why would I pay anything for a service I never received beyond the cancellation date? Why would I pay a company for the privilege of doing business with them? Is this legal in CA and can lawyer's fees be recouped from progressive if we go to court?

I got hit when my car was parked on a street while I was in work. I got sideswiped and the guy didn't have insurance. So I took it to Progressive service center. Well it got towed there as my suspension was screwed up when he hit me. My car got hit May 2nd and towed May 3rd. They finally looked at it May 7th... and the repairs would be done May 19. It's now the 19th and I get a call saying my windows and door locks and radio do not work... They worked fine when it was dropped off. Now Progressive is saying something was cut in my door and they wouldn't be covering that. Needless to say, I will get a car back that is in worse condition than it was when it was hit. And I'm also paying the 500 dollars deductible to pick up a worse car!
Hopefully I can get my car fixed but I will be paying out of pocket for this on my own... and maybe contacting an attorney because this is not right. I pay $300 a month for our insurance policy for two cars and this was my first claim in 5 years of being with Progressive. I'm switching insurance companies as soon as I get back my broken car... If I were you, never get Progressive Insurance unless you plan on never having a claim with them.

I was rear ended by a Progressive driver. I was completely stopped in traffic. He was driving 50 mph and was texting on his cell phone. Needless to say he rear ended me. He hit me so hard, I hit the car in front of me. Progressive started working on the claim right away and I was really impressed. Things went down hill from there. I was rushed to the ER after the accident to have my injuries looked at. Progressive called me the next day and offered me $500 to settle my claim. Really? I took my car to the service center and the estimate showed the total cost of the repair would be $7500. The service center has had my car for almost 2 months now.
They called 3 weeks ago and said my car was ready. I went to pick it up and the repairs were not done properly. The rear bumper was not attached correctly, the "new grill" was all scratched up, they put used head lights that were all scratched up on my brand new car. I made a complaint and they agreed to fix the what I complained about. 4 days later, they called to say my car was ready. I went to pick it up, and they didn't do anything except change the head light. The interior was not detailed as promised, bumper was still uneven. I complained yet again and the rep told me "we are at $9600 for repairs, there really isn't anything else we can do"! I caused a scene in their lobby, and they immediately put me in another rental car and agreed the repairs were not done properly and that they would fix them.
The manager called and told me I was being overly critical (which I wasn't). I drive a brand new Honda Accord. Before the guy hit me, my car was in perfect condition. When Progressive delivered my repaired car back to me, I could see the screws holding my bumper on. Amazingly when I told them I was getting an attorney, they agreed to fix their shorty repairs. It has now been almost 2 months and I still don't have my car. Progressive promises to call you back with updates, they don't. They promise they will take care of you, they don't. If you make the mistake of taking your car to any Progressive Service Center, make a list of everything that needs repaired, and over look your car really good before you drive it home. Its funny, when you go to pick your car up, they almost attack you when you walk in to take your rental car back from you to get it "checked in". Since I am in sales, I know that they are just pressuring you to pick up your car and not look it over thinking you wont notice their half ass repair job. You will regret letting them fix your car.

It's strange to me that the amount somehow got LOST. Justin, the 3rd level supervisor was the rudest person ever and all I wanted was a letter to the credit agency making sure this does not go on my credit report as I paid the money on the phone today. He said he couldn't do that and I asked if he was willing to lose a customer of 10 years and he said that if I was willing to leave cause I owed money legitimately then that was my choice. Really that's what 10 years got me. It's the principle but flo is looking mighty good to me right now... Time to switch. Justin won't care, he will still have a job. I'm just a drop in the bucket. After being a Geico customer for 3 years, I decided to switch to Progressive only to pay the same and eventually more. I finally switched back to Geico because of the horrible customer service experience I received. I recently moved and I was trying to update my profile with Progressive to renew my policy. I was told because I was temporarily living with my grandparents, they had to be included on my policy although they did not own my car or drive it. I refused to provide this information and they denied me service until it could be authorized by upper management. I spoke with 3 different reps (who were obviously all sitting in the same room), 3 different calls to be placed on hold for 35 minutes 2 of the 3 times. I was fed up! So I hung up, went online to Geico, put in my information, made a couple changes to the policy they suggested. Within 20 minutes, I was submitting my payment. A total savings of $70 per month, $420 every six months. Great savings. I think I'll be sticking with Geico. ;)

January 24th 2014, I called for a quote to add my brother on my insurance. The plan was for him to live with me later in the summer and that having a history of car insurance would be beneficial. During the call I was quoted approx. $40 at which point I declined, after which I was advised that I can call again in the future to add him. February, March, April and May bills come and I pay them with no problem (May being my last month). Early May I am shopping for insurance starting June when I realize I have a balance due on Progressive. After I go to my billing page, it appears I have been charged for my brother dating April 22. Going to my documents page, I find the letter they sent me dating April 22 (no warning prior to April 22).
A couple days later, I arrive home to go through my mail again to verify they had never sent me anything as a warning and again, nothing. I decide to call and am told I have to call back Monday since their underwriters are gone for the day late Friday. Monday morning, the underwriter tells me she will investigate but in the mean time I can fill out an exemption form for my brother. Tuesday the underwriter calls and tells me that during my call January 24th, I had mentioned my brother lives with me and drives my car. Though I deny the truth of that, I ask if I send in documents proving he does not live with me, nor does he stay at my place during holidays if he can be removed since he does not have access to my car or house. Needless to say, they did not remove him (Yes, I am aware of the law stating that anyone having access to my vehicle or that lives with me must be included on my insurance).
I ask why it took 3 months to add him if it was in fact the phone conversation that they are citing is the reason for adding him and the underwriter claims they had sent me documents asking me to exclude him, though could not give me any dates after looking for several minutes. Furthermore, when asked why I was never informed that he would be added after my call in January, she had no response. If it was truly solely based on my call in January, why did it not only take 3 months to add my brother but receive no warning and why not date it starting the day of my call and not April 22. If I did in fact claim that he drove my car daily and always had access to it, why not add him on the spot starting January 24th. If he had died, would I still be charged April 22-May 5 (when I realized they had added him and faxed in the exemption form). If still alive, would I be charged if he lived in Europe, another state, another town? At which point, would I not be charged because again, I may have claimed he drove my car in January but said nothing about April (He has lived and paid for housing on campus for college and was only on my lease for last summer before he started college. I had purchased this car 3 months after he moved out).....Unhappy customer **

If you have any sense whatsoever, I highly suggest you DO NOT subscribe to their insurance!! They are the biggest crooks in the insurance racket that I have ever seen! Had a very nice newer Corvette, car had been in excellent shape, caught on fire in 2013. It took so long for their process with a hired out adjuster and the fire marshal that my coverage for a rental ran out and just luckily, we had an extra vehicle at the time, otherwise I don't know how I would have gotten to work or anything else as we live over 30 miles from a town.
We gave statements over the phone as they requested, then after over a month of waiting, and them not returning calls, they told us we would have to appear in person and give in person statements again! Talk about not trusting clients that has had coverage with them for over 12 plus years, with no claims on either me or my husband. We are both 50 and 46 at the time, Christian, God-fearing people, had multiple policies, auto, home, boats, etc. Had to just drop the claim, due to my husband's failing health, and I just couldn't handle all the actual crap they were putting us through. We did everything they asked of us to no avail, telling us we would have to give in person statements was the last straw. I cannot stand the fact that we got screwed over by money hungry crooks, but we both felt both of our health was MORE important than having to fight with Progressive!!
We are not rich or well off by any means, and the fact that they screwed us out of 30,000 is so not right!!! I don't have a lot of money, but I do have a lot of pull with God, I have so much faith and trust in him, God says, "Vengeance is mine," and he will have his way with you one day, Progressive. I may not be living when it happens, but God will give you your just desserts, and I do hope I will be around to see it. All I can do now is pray for you people, you are heartless, soulless, and if you would worry more about your customers than you do having other people's money in your pocket, your lives would be so much better!! We were made to feel like we were guilty, the adjuster from Alabama talked to me in a very sarcastic, demeaning way but when he talked to my husband, he was not the same way. I believe he thought he could get over on me because I am a woman.
The following is something for you to read and I hope it helps you as it has helped me: Psalm 23- "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul, he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his names sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for though art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Amen." Don't mean to preach a sermon here, but I think Progressive and its Adjusters need allllllll they can get from the good book!

I was recently rear-ended by a driver who had Progressive Insurance. Waiting at a stop light I was the second car from the light in the right lane (turning lane). The car in back of me ran into me, and I ran into the guy in front of me. We all got out of our cars to inspect damage. The gentleman in front of me had no damage so he left. The woman who hit me apologized and said, "Let's go around the corner to exchange information." She stated she was on the phone to pick her boyfriend up from work and accidentally hit me. So we wheel into a restaurant's driveway to exchange insurance information. She took a picture of the front of her car and back of my car, and send all the information to me via text. She said she didn't have any damage.
I went to my insurance company ASAP and to repair shop the next morning. They said I needed to call Progressive. They have their own people that will look at my car. So I call Progressive, the woman had never reported the accident. So I filed the claim. A co-worker of mine came over to ask if that was me in the accident. I told him yes. He has seen the aftermath. A week later the claims generalist called me. Got my statement and then proceeded to tell me she has a different story. She said she was hit from behind and that driver drove away, but had no damage. There was no other driver, nor would someone be able to escape or hit and run at this particular intersection.
I told him that was not possible, but she said she had no damage. Well two weeks later... he emails me and says they inspected her car and she appears to have damage to the rear. This after she claimed no damage and he can't come to a determination of liability because of the story dispute. I told him I had a witness, who he did speak with. She had said no one was around at the time... then all of a sudden she had a witness which most likely is her boyfriend who came to meet her 15 minutes later. The generalist agreed with me that he had told me earlier that yes, she said she had no damage... and then all of a sudden she had damage. I said this is a 5-10 mile an hour street. If someone hit her from behind they would have been going 30 miles an hour to cause $3k damage to my car.
Progressive doesn't take into account the intersection, logistics, time of day, conditions.... the supervisor said only in some accidents. Their driver is pulling one over on them. I wish the cops would have stopped as they would have seen something else wrong with the picture. It has been over 30 days and Progressive is still fighting me on this and have not looked at my car. They said they will take their driver's word if they can't come to a conclusion, even though they have no proof of the so-called "hit and run" and haven't invested the details and how this happened. BTW, she didn't call in the claim because she didn't have damage. They have recorded conversations and the generalist had it recorded where he says she went back on her statement.

In the words of a famous author... "They are willing to give you an umbrella for clear skies, but take it away in an instant when it rains."
For approximately five years, I have been with Progressive for coverage on my trailer. Staff have always been helpful and courteous when the time came for renewal ($$$) and to answer any questions regarding my policy. About 3 weeks ago, I was driving on the highway while towing my trailer and was forced to make a sudden evasive maneuver in order to avoid an object (tire) that bounced out of the back of a vehicle in front of me. After swerving back and forth, from one lane to the other, I was able to avoid the object. Needless to say, I was extremely lucky that I was able to maintain control and avoid flipping the trailer over. After a couple of minutes of catching my breath, I noticed in my rear view mirror that my trailer seemed off and leaning to one side. I pulled into a rest stop to check and noticed that both axles were offset and the frame appeared slightly bent.
After finding a local trailer repair company/welder, I was informed that the damage was much more significant than anticipated. I was told that my trailer was not road worthy and unsafe to pull due to the tires rubbing. I left the trailer there and went home. The next day I called PROGRESSIVE and filed a claim. It took exactly one week for a PROGRESSIVE estimator to examine the trailer. He later called to inform me that he discovered some rust underneath the frame (chassis) with cracks in some of the welded joints. The Estimator explained that the trailer is not road worthy and would be deemed a total loss if covered. However, because of this "Preexisting" condition (Unbeknown to me), PROGRESSIVE will NOT cover any of the cost for repair. When I tried to inquire what to do at this point, he replied, "You could attempt to pull it back to San Diego."
It has now been almost two weeks and I still hove not received a written denial letter from PROGRESSIVE. In the meantime, I am incurring storage fees and labor, which the Estimator also informed me that PROGRESSIVE will NOT cover as well.

I'll hand it to them. Their sign up process was easy and at the time they were cheaper than State Farm. But now they jacked up my premium by $25/mo and claim CA fees went up. However, AAA gave me a quote back to what I was paying before AND on top of that they have a loyalty discount for every year you are with them. I've not had any claims or accidents, also AAA's price was for double the coverage. The bummer part is that Progressive has a $50 cancellation fee, and instead of on a monthly basis, they let you pay that way, but canceling they calculate it on actual days. So even if you've paid, you'll still end up having to pay them a couple hundred. So I now have to wait it out. Chat wasn't too helpful. The woman didn't explain what was going on and why I had to pay, but the woman on the phone was more informative. I don't hate them, but don't think they are the best out there. I applied for a job as a customer service representative. My college degree and work experience far exceeded their requirements for this job, and my credit (since they check that sort of thing for these positions, I guess) is above average. Any noteworthy company that I have ever applied for has taken a considerable amount of time to review work history, references, and the like. THIS company only took two days to review my application, cover letter, and resume and, after their "thorough review", sent one of the most arrogant, snotty, and pompous rejection letters I have ever seen: it included the phrase "we wish we had better news, but right now we just don't think that people like you would make that great of a fit for our prestigious company."
When I called their HR office, I was told quite seriously "yeah, well, we don't have any further information to offer, and even if we did we wouldn't bother discussing the matter over the phone. You simply aren't worthy of our time." If this is how they treat their candidates, than I must wince when forced to think about how they treat their current employees and customers.
Two days later, I got an email from Progressive wherein they tried to talk about how great their company was, and how if I wanted to consider myself a "responsible adult", I would switch to Progressive. The hilarious issue with all of this is that I would essentially be paying more per month for less coverage than my current insurance company. Since I was given the "you're not worthy, you less-than-desirable-person-you" speech, I was offered, and accepted, a job which pays more money than that a comparable job at Progressive.

My wife was rear-ended while at a red light by a Progressive client. Our vehicle was taken to a body shop and a verbal go ahead was given to the body shop after the estimate was completed. More than halfway through the repair work, Progressive came back to the body shop and said they would not pay the labor rate the body shop used in their estimate. They would not budge on the rate even though the body shop was willing to negotiate a new rate. We ended up paying out of our pocket to get the vehicle released from the body shop even though we were not at fault for the accident. If Progressive did not agree with the estimate, why did the adjuster give the verbal approval to the original estimate? The body shop showed me a job from 2 weeks earlier that Progressive paid the rate that the body shop used in it's original estimate.
I spoke with a supervisor, but nothing came of the talk. He did admit Progressive made a mistake in allowing the work to begin, but there was nothing that could be done. So even though it was their client who caused the accident and Progressive's adjuster's mistake in giving the go ahead, we ended up paying for both of their mistakes. Angry? Oh, yeah. You listening Flo? I'm pissed. I've been told by 3 lawyers I contacted that I can recover the amount paid via small claims court, but for the time off from work to file and attend court, plus court costs, the amount recovered wouldn't be worth the effort.

In February 2013, my husband and I had financial difficulties and decided that, as we were in a position to let our car sit for a while, the car insurance was a bill we could cut out. We expected to go without money longer but as it turned out we were able to get back on track two months later. I called Progressive and asked to reinstate my policy and asked how much it would cost to do so. The lady on the phone told me an amount that was the same as my normal monthly bill. I was surprised and asked her if there would be a penalty for the lapsed policy. She said there was no penalty. I paid and have been paying my bill every month since.
What she failed to tell me at the time is that I wasn't reinstating my old policy as I had requested. I was actually purchasing a new policy and there was a $200.99 fee for an extra month of coverage that they automatically have to give when a policy lapses. That number is pretty crazy considering my usual monthly bill is less than $100. Not only did they fail to inform me of this bill, despite my having asked, after trying to bill me via an email address I no longer used, they sent me to collections. I have been paying my usual bill every month, getting my regular bills in the mail every month, and even speaking to their call center reps on a couple of occasions and at no point did anyone bother to say, "Hey, did you know you owe us this money?"
Now when I spoke with them about it, they say they are not responsible for what an employee may or may not have said even if the call was recorded in their system and it was my responsibility to regularly check my old email account where they claim they sent the notices even though I've been getting my bills on paper in the mail since then. So now I am stuck with a bill for three times my usual car insurance bill and a fresh blemish on my credit score. Thanks for nothing, Progressive.

So I have been with Progressive for 4 years. They had been pretty good. Or so I had thought. I got a letter from a collection agency (apparently this is the second one, according to Progressive) trying to collect on a $200 bill for Progressive. I thought there was a mistake; my insurance was current. I called Progressive to confirm and find out what was going on. They confirmed yes I was current on my bill.
What had happened was a year ago I was having financial problems and had let my policy lapse for a few weeks. When I had the money, I called them and asked how much to reinstate (key word is reinstate) my policy, fully expecting to have to pay reinstatement and other fees. The agent I spoke to said no, all I had to do was pay a reinstatement fee of $50 and my policy's first monthly payment of $56. I remember because I was surprised at how little it was going to cost me. But what had happened is they had closed my old policy and started a new one, then charged me the balance of the old policy + admin. fee for covering me for 3 weeks. So essentially, they charged me four months of insurance ($56 a month) in 3 weeks' time. And didn't tell me that is what they were doing.
On the old policy I had been paperless and all my bills were sent to a email address. So according to them they were trying to contact me about the bill I owed through the email I had given them. Well when I asked to have my policy reinstated, I chose to have paper bills sent to me. I have been getting my bills every month for the last year and paying them. I had even paid some of them over the phone and on the internet. At no time did anyone ask me about any past due money they were owed nor was I sent any paper bills. I was told that's because it's under another policy # (even though my social security #, address and phone # are the same) and under that policy I had asked to be contacted through email so they had been sending bills to the old email acct. (which is no good and one of the reasons I switched to paper) and there is nothing they will do. They are owed the money (regardless what their agent told me over the phone) because legally they are required to cover me unless I can show proof of having another car insurance company covering me, at which case they will waive the bill.
Now I am stuck with a bill that I don't think I owe and have had 2 collection agencies dinging my credit trying to collect. So needless to say, their insurance agents may give you correct information or they may not. And Progressive, well they're going to make a minimal effort to contact you with a billing problem, then just send you to collection agency, while making a minimal effort to notify you that they're doing that as well.

I wreck my car, front damaged with driver side airbag deployed. Initial estimate was too low to not total my car. After supplemental payments, repair went to $14,203.87 on repair cost. That's over 75% of damaged repair cost. My vehicle actual cash value is $18,900 KB. On Friday, 18/2014, I picked up my vehicle from Auto Mart collision and the owner of the shop told me to come back next week because at the time I picked up my car the airbag light and the traction control light was on. He told me he needs to reset them. Also some cosmetic part was missing on the vehicle.
I drove the car to my work and later when I got off from work, the car did not start. The engine was making a weird noise. I parked my vehicle at my job 40 miles away from home. I called Progressive and they told me I have to wait until Monday. I was stuck at my work four hours at night from 12:30 am to 4:00 am looking for a ride home. The same day Saturday 19/2014 I called Progressive to let them know about the car breakdown. They told me I have to wait till Monday and I called the shop. They did not answer the phone.
I ask for total loss before the initial estimate due to the impact was on the front end but they decline my request just for the reason they want to save money. Progressive has a bad customer service, bad business practice. Look for a honest insurance and honest adjuster that you can trust and tell you the process of the claim by details. Progressive would not get us a tow as they said we should have a spare! Motorhomes don't have "spares". Their solution was for us to pay $1500 delivery fee + installation, buy the tires & he would call us the next morning as he was going home for the night. We sat there for 8 hrs. till we found a local mobile tire service to get us out of danger, limped to a TA truck stop & had new tires put on. Progressive Roadside service?!!! Took a photo of his license plate, and went back. Called the police, and my insurance. Officer came and took my information, including the pic. He found a guy. Guy said at first that he thought he hit a curb, but after that I hit him, so he didn't want to bother, since damage was minimal. He had Progressive, just as I do. Progressive called me and said that they cannot determine the fault, so it is a wash. They will not cover my $500 deductible. My car is 3 years old and fix will not be cheap. I think Progressive is just trying not to pay $500 for either of us. I know insurance companies are greedy, but this is disgusting!

I was involved in a car accident 3-4 weeks ago. The accident took place at a parking lot where I was hit by another car after I had completely backed up from the lot (I have pictures showing that my car was 95% out of parking lot when I was hit). My car is 2014 Mustang equipped with rear sensors that warns me if there is anything behind me. But it didn't go off because I wasn't backing up (it was in the drive mode). Anyhow I tried so hard for 4 weeks to get Progressive to hear my side of the story but they put me at fault as they had initially. I love my car and drive it with extra care and would never make careless mistake like backing up without looking.
I'm writing to let everyone know that Progressive will never back up their customers and use the laws against them. They kept accusing me for hitting the car while backing up and ignore the picture that shows I was out of the lot by 95% and my car was in the drive mode. I feel really upset because not only my Brand new car is damaged now but I'm also blamed for something I didn't do. The lady who hit me was in a hurry that day and she keeps lying about everything but they took her words because maybe me having an Islamic last name probably won't hold trustworthy to them (I can't think of anything else because they didn't even do any sort of investigation and put me at fault). I even told them that there are surveillance cameras at the nearby bank. But all they looked at were the damages on my car which doesn't really make sense. Prior deploying to Afghanistan from 2012-2013, I was a Progressive customer for 10 years and never had an at fault accident.

In the month of November of 2013 between the 13 and 15 my parents requested an auto quote from Progressive they asked my driver license number and date of birth. They also asked for information via fax and parents diligently did so. In December 23, 2013 I contacted Progressive to make a payment via phone and to my surprise the information did not match. I was transferred to an operator who told me they had my wrong date of birth; instead of July 3, 1996 they had 1986 and that they needed to re-quote the policy. When they re-quoted it came to over a 1.000. At this time my mother contacted Progressive and told to stop the policy, January 2, 2014.
My mother was told she could not do that because she was not authorized. At this time I came to the phone and gave verbal consent to my mother to talk to the agent. To my surprise a bill came about a week or so for 702.00. I have told them I did not want the insurance and my parents also dropped the insurance. They insisted, "That's the amount owed because we provided you with coverage." At this time it was the end of January 2014. I firmly told them with my father on the line that back in December 2013 we told not to continue the coverage and stop.
To my surprise I received a letter on April 15, 2014 from collection agency. My mother contacted the agency and they reported it was from Progressive car insurance and they could not do anything. My mother contacted Progressive and they once again requested I give verbal consent for them to talk to her. To our surprise their statement is that they don't have proof of that original phone telling them to stop the coverage. They provided coverage for the whole month of January 2014 and that we owed them that amount of money. They also told us that the Division of Motor Vehicles when they ran the report came up with a 1986 date. We told progressive that was not our fault and we should not be first hold responsible for that and second we have the right to deny the quote in January 2014 since it was not the quote we agreed on.
At this point we asked for the bill to be sent under my father's name and they refused stating to take up with the credit collection. The credit collection states it's Progressive. The reason why parents agreed on the quote was based on a cost of 121.00 a month and we agreed on. Once that new quote came up we called and said, "No thanks, drop that". It was an unfortunate mistake from the DMV or whomever. I did not ask to continue the coverage, so if I would not accepted the original quote would Progressive still bill me for it? Of course NOT. Then I should not be billed for the second quote when I clearly stated I do not want it. My credit at age 17 is ruined. THANKS, PROGRESSIVE. CALL OR CLICK TODAY.

I had fully backed out of the parking space and had my car shifted into Drive and stopped while waiting for a man to finish walking across in front of me. When he stopped and was staring in back of me. Suddenly, we felt an impact and I looked in my review mirror and saw nothing. I then looked in my driver's side mirror and saw a car had backed up into me.
After making sure everyone was ok, I pulled back into my original parking spot to so I wasn't blocking anyone. The woman in the other vehicle said she didn't see any backup lights when she backed up. We exchanged information and then she said she had to get back to her sick husband. So I waited for the police to show up. I then called Progressive to report the incident.
Skip ahead... after taking a week for her insurance to talk to her and her refusing to talk to my insurance or the police, her insurance is claiming that it was my fault because they have 2 photos, one of each vehicle's damage, showing that I was the one in motion at the time of the incident. Progressive hasn't even bothered to request to look at these photos nor have they requested a copy of the police report that states that I was not at fault. But Progressive is refusing to fight the other insurance's claim that I was at fault. My Progressive agent said that he is not calling me a liar, but he doesn't believe my story. Well, last week, in the evening I was driving carefully as I always do. There, well within the driving area of the roadway, I struck an enormous, unmarked pothole. The road in question is a country road with no streetlights. I took my vehicle to a local auto-serving center and was told that my rim is cracked and they cannot recommend it being welded as a viable method of repair. A rim from the Nissan dealership gave me a quote of $700.00. I have a $500.00 deductible on my policy. If I turn in a claim Progressive will, at most, pay me $200.00. I do have minor accident forgiveness but my claim would fall outside that range and that there is a good chance of my auto-insurance rates increasing.
To matters worse, the incident, is being deemed as "at fault" although clearly I was not at fault! I was t-boned by a Progressive customer. The impact of the hit was hard enough my car went off the road and landed in a ditch. My right ankle was dislocated and broken in two places which required surgery to repair. A tooth was broken, my right knee was punctured and I had severe bruising on my chest from the seat belt and airbag. The accident occurred Nov. 18th and I'm still going through physical therapy for my ankle and continue to have x-rays done. The guy who hit me admitted he was at fault. The police determined he was at fault and cited him for failing to yield at a stop sign, and Progressive agreed their client caused the accident.
My auto insurance covered up to $20,000 in medical expenses but that has run out. Progressive is refusing to pay my remaining medical bills upfront. The Progressive agent I'm working with told me I need to submit my remaining medical bills to my health insurance and pay out of pocket whatever my health insurance won't cover. Once I've paid all of these bills off and the doctor signs off for my final appointment, that is when Progressive will reimburse me. My health insurance doesn't want to cover these bills since they are caused from an auto accident. They paid a couple then sent me a letter threatening to raise my rates as the result.
I again asked Progressive to pay my bills upfront and was again told they won't. They said they are "sorry" if I am experiencing a financial hardship because of this, but there's nothing they can do until I pay off all my medical bills then submit them for reimbursement. It is beyond me how an insurance company can put the financial burden of an accident caused by their client on the accident victim! It makes me wonder about accident victims who've been critically injured and whether Progressive told them they were responsible for the bills.
The agent I'm working with even told me to "go ahead" and hire an attorney if I wanted. He had the nerve to tell me it would make his job easier in the long run since the attorney would be responsible for providing him with all of my medical records vs. him having to collect them himself! So here I am with medical bills rolling in, my health insurance may go up, and I am stuck with car payments as my car was totaled. Once all of my accident ordeal is done, I hope I never have to deal with Progressive again!

A few months ago, I was getting out of my car when a woman across the street backed into the front, causing a dent to the side panel, front bumper and a little bit on the hood. She had Progressive, I have Geico. After determining that I was not at fault, her insurance co., Progressive, agreed to cover the cost of repairs and set me up in a rental. On Feb 25, I dropped my car off to be repaired at Rocco's Collision in Blackwood, they called to have me picked up for my Rental car and that was that.
On February 27, I received several phone calls in a row while I was at work from Progressive. I received a voicemail stating that it was important for me to call back immediately and that my car needed to be picked up right away. I returned the call, asking a lot of questions. I was told that the other driver only had a $5,000 limit and that the damages were about $4,500. That, with the cost of the rental, would most likely go over that limit, especially if they were to open the car up and find more damage. I was also told that they would NOT be covering the rental that they put me in because they were not going to handle the claim. He told me I could go through my insurance company, or just come pick up my car. Going through my insurance company would mean I'd have to pay the $2,500 deductible to have a dent repaired that I was not responsible for. I was angry and yelled at the claims adjuster, cursed at him and hung up.
I called Geico, and explained everything. They told me they had no idea why Progressive was handling things that way because they would do things differently, and said they would give Progressive a call and figure everything and call me back later. A few hours later, I still hadn't heard from them, so I called Progressive myself. I asked WHY the damages cost $4,500 and if I could just pick my car up. I was told that picking my car up was no longer an option; That between me telling him off in the morning, and that current phone call, the car had been disassembled, was in pieces, and that the damages were now around $7,000 and that I still needed to return the rental, that they could cut me a check for $5,000 (the girl's limit) and that I could use that towards paying for my rental or getting it fixed. The problem with that is that I am still making payments on my car. I owe $4,780. So I would get about $220 to have my car fixed or replaced and cover the rental.
The part that had me far beyond angry at this point, was that Rocco's was given the order to do a teardown AFTER telling me to pick it up, AFTER deciding that they would not be working on my car, AFTER I told the guy off. If they were not going to be working on my car, shouldn't they have left my car completely alone?? They did NOT have my permission or consent to take my car apart, nor did they inform me they were going to do so.
Those of you who do not know me don't know that my job REQUIRES me to have a reliable vehicle. I work with people with developmental disabilities and a large part of my job includes me driving my clients to their doctor's appointments, taking them to do their grocery shopping, driving them to and from classes or activities, etc. With no car I would have no job. No job means no income. So at this point, all I wanted was my car back. I don't care about a dent, I was taking it to get fixed because I believed it was covered. I had been told by others that it would only cost a couple hundred-$1200 at most to have fixed. I did not see any of this coming at all. I went to bed and was barely able to sleep, knowing that by the following day, I would most likely be out of a job, over a stinking DENT. One that I played no part in causing, other than being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
The next day (yesterday- 2/28) I received a call saying Geico was taking over the claim and that Progressive would cover my deductible, and because I have rental coverage, the rental car was still okay to drive while my car was repaired. and that Progressive was paying my deductible. This was fine by me and thought I was out of the woods. This was around the time I considered calling the Progressive claims guy back to apologize for the things I had said to him. It wasn't right of me at all. I figured when I picked up my car when it was done, I would apologize to him and explain that it was stressful for me hearing everything that he was saying but that there was no excuse for it and that I was sorry.
Today (3/1) I got a call saying from the Geico claims adjuster saying that the damages had exceeded the value of my car which was $6,099 and that they would cut me a check for $6,099 but that of that, $2,500 would be taken out for my deductible and the rest would go to my lien holder. The damages that had been done at the request of the Progressive agent had increased the amount of damage needing to be fixed. He told me that he had NO idea why Progressive would have ordered Roccos to disassemble my car, that there was absolutely no reason for it, and that it didn't do anything besides cause more damage. His exact words were, and I quote: "Man, Progressive really screwed the pooch, there..."
So here I am. I am a single working mom. I HATE playing the "single working mom" card, but it isn't a card for me to play, it is a reality for me. I don't make a lot of money and I'm starting nursing school in a month, which will cut back my hours in work, and require even more driving. Decreased hours mean less income. I am broke enough as it is, and now having less income while having to save for another car has me at a level of stress that is making me literally sick to my stomach, unable to sleep, and feeling so bummed out that I can't focus on anything. I'm hoping I can get an extension on my rental, and will have to wait until Monday to find out. That will allow for more time to save for a car, even a junker. Just anything to get me from point A to point B. I had a PERFECTLY working car with NO Mechanical issues when I brought it in, and now I have NOTHING. Lawsuit to follow.

I thought of Progressive Insurance as a reputable company, but I've since found out otherwise. They have a nice advertisement campaign, but they also have deep pockets full of money and politicians. I got badges and stars--the whole shebang. They loved me. I was all lined up for a 30% discount. Then a question put me on the phone to Progressive. I explained that I was already a Progressive customer. The silence was deafening. Then the young lady told me that I couldn't use the device they sent, they'd have to send me a different one and I'd have to start the trial over. "Why?" you might ask. I certainly did, but there was no explanation.
So ... they sent me a new device. I sent their original back and installed the new one. Now, I'm still 62, still drive the same roads to work, still don't drive at night. I don't think my driving style has changed at all. But the device in my car certainly behaves differently from the one I had before. My colleague, who occasionally rides to work with me, has laughed in amazement when the device beep-beep-beeped at me, for really nothing. I've had it beep when I waited at a red light, and when it turned green, began making a right turn from a dead stop. I certainly wasn't accelerating rapidly. It has also beeped when the road had potholes. In other words, this device is FAR more sensitive than the one they declared I couldn't use since I was already a Progressive customer.
My trial is over, and the discount I get is 15%. Apparently my driving skills shrunk by 50% in a few short weeks. Now, a 15% discount is better than none, but I firmly believe they issue devices with "lenient settings" to non-customers, to "rope them in," and "highly sensitive settings" once you are on board, so you don't get much discount at all. I think it's a scam. I actually don't expect anything to be done about this, but I did want to register my complaint--especially if it turns out that other people have the same complaint.

My daughter who is a full time student was in auto accident. The car got totaled. She was taken to ER of the local hospital. We had comprehensive insurance on this vehicle with progressive for almost last two years. They always received their premium on time from our bank through auto pay. After the accident and car being determined as completely destroyed, they subsequently informed us that they would not pay for any medical cost nor would they pay anything for the car.
Since we had not listed our daughter as the driver on the policy, they gave the reason as fraud for misleading them. The fact of the matter is that this new car was driven by my wife and my both daughters have their own cars, we did not list them on the policy. Today, I came across numerous reviews on them at Yelp and I was surprised that this was not an isolated incident but a pattern with this company (Progressive Insurance). I am truly surprised that they have gotten away with it for so long.

I received a ticket and didn't fight it because it was for 55 in a 40. I had no idea this highway was 40mph, neither did anyone else as they passed me! In any case I was at the end of the line, so easy pickings I guess! I didn't fight it because I figured it was no big deal. Wrong. Progressive charged me an extra $372 per six months.
I've paid on time and after 7 years with this company they pull this crap. I talked to a supervisor who offered to re-write my policy for a lot less coverage and made it only $300 more than what I was paying before the ticket. That was their idea of a great deal. If it were up to me I'd go without but my state requires insurance. Gee, I wondered who wrote that law? Total rip offs but then again they all are. Flo can kiss my hind quarters.

I've been in the expediting business for 17 years and until 2009 I was working with large companies that offered me their own insurance policies with prices between $40 up to 300 per month. But large companies got many rules, some unfair, some dictatorial. 2009 was the year when I discovered I can work as well with small carriers. The only difference being the insurance, a thing that I had to get it on my own. At the beginning I was paying $160/mo. that including the coverage for cargo, and it was an agency specialized in trucking industry.
In 2010 I was switched to Progressive. The reason being that the previous agency ceased to cover for expediters, and the rate went up to $220/mo. Next year went up for another $40. The tragedy begins by the end of 2012, when these ** jumped to almost $600/mo. Since I never had tickets nor accidents, I was sure there has to be a mistake and I called them. No, there was no mistake. The rates just went up. And now, to be more specific, yesterday, they asked me for $17,000 that amount being for a whole year for two vehicles (cargo vans), and to pay up front the whole amount. Gosh, somebody has to do something with this legal robbery!

Seems to be a pattern with how poorly Progressive treats their customers. Recently, our van was totaled and we filed our claim. Progressive uses JD Power to give them the valuation to determine the payout. The amount offered was considerably less than what I could buy a similar car for. We pulled 5 higher comps from our market, and the vehicles actually had over 25,000 miles over our vehicle. They flat out declined any reconsideration and stuck to their lowball offer of settlement. I now see how they have so much money for advertising. They screw their customers. Progressive SUCKS and I am making it my mission to tell everyone I know not to use them.

My car was recently vandalized. Someone broke the rear driver side window out of my car, slashed the convertible top, got inside and broke the glove compartment trying to get it open, and now the top doesn't go up or down. The same day I filed a claim the agent called me back, set up a place to check out my car. 15 minutes later I was given an estimate of all the repairs, was told it would cost no more than my 500 dollar deductible, then driven to the nearest rental car place where I was placed into a brand new convertible car to use until my car was fixed. Took about 4 minutes. This is the first time in over 30 years of driving I have ever had to use the insurance I have paid into all these years and was nervous about how it would all go and how long it would take. This is the easiest thing I have ever done. I will be staying with Progressive. I don't understand how so many others had such bad experiences.

Of course he denied it over the phone. But he was okay with it when we exchanged info. This place is a ripoff. They know he did it or we wouldn't be having the issue. I called the guy that hit me and he said they came out and cleaned off the area of vehicle with Windex and said there was no damage so he didn't hit anyone. Now he's off the hook. They quoted me twenty dollars less on my monthly payments and included medical coverage in case of an accident. Like an idiot I switch to their insurance and a week later, I got a letter from them telling me they had switched me to a state government insurance because I was a high risk driver. This new coverage was going to cost me twice what I paid with GEICO.
If they are going to switch me from their insurance, you would think they would let me know first. So, I canceled a few days before the new month started and while I was talking to their customer service, the lady was extremely rude the whole time. Later, I called again and spoke with another one of their customer service agents and this lady was also rude. It really pissed me off. Then they sent me an email telling me I owed them almost $200. Obviously, trying to get as much money from as possible before they let me go.

To start with, it took them on each accident I have had a week or more to come and do a claim adjustment. The first time I took it to where they recommended the shop didn't do half of the work they claim to. It was a total rip off and the next they wrote me a check that no one would accept and they did that the first time too. Now my car is wrecked, it was my fault but I pay a very high premium. It was considered by their claims adjuster to be a total loss so they are trying to only pay me 6,000 dollars. I still owe $8,200, so it Blue Books for $8,200. They tell me they don't go by Blue Book and they go by cars in the area for sale that are the same so I look it up and the average price is over $10,500 and all the cars had a lot more mileage on them.
Mine is an LT top of the line with all the extras, it's a 2007 but only has 61,000 miles on it plus they are trying to charge me a 1000-dollar deductible when my policy they sent me says right on it no deductible actually cash value plus 25% cash value is at least $10,000. It had a lot of custom parts to it including $5000 tire &rims, brand new paint, tinted windows, lift kit, custom bumpers as well as lens covers. I put in additional insurance a $5,000 comprehensive in case of accident or loss. I made sure that I was extremely well insured. I paid $7000 for my truck. Without all of these extras the Kelley Blue Book was $4000. Can you imagine the shock and dismay when all they're giving me is $3000 for my loss!
My insurance h and after 2 and a half weeks of interrogating, I'm sipping through my life came back to me with this just graceful figure! Then she told me my truck would be in the mail overnight but I needed to return my rental car which I was guaranteed for 30 days! 3000 dollars! Then she told me I needed to sue the homeowner that I parked in front of their home for the remainder of my losses! A car backed into my front right side in a parking lot. I did not see the car and there were no witnesses. When I went to back the car out of the parking spot the wheel well and parts of the front lower bumper fell off. The car had a strong pull to the right side. I took the car to the Progressive center to be fixed. It is my understanding that they sent the car out to a local dealership and they repaired the body work on the car. They also checked the alignment and said it was good.
I drove out of their driveway and the car still had a very strong right pull. I returned the car immediately and was told (whispering) that I have a bald tire and that's why its pulling. I took the car to a tire discounter store. They were told the car pulled right and to check that right tire. They rotated the tires and the pull immediately went away. They saw no damage to the right tire. They did advise me that I would probably need two new tires in @ 6 months. The tire store couldn't believe that the insurance company or the dealership had released this car to me as it was clearly unsafe to drive in this condition. They recommended that the car be returned to the dealership to reset the steering wheel as they don't have the tools necessary to do this.
When I called the Progressive center and advised them of what the tire store had said they argued that I had a bad tire and they were just camouflaging the problem. Why would the tire store camouflage a problem if they could sell me a tire or two? Progressive refused to send the car back to the dealership to reset the steering wheel unless I bought a new tire. I asked him: If the tire was bad, why didn't someone either insurance or dealership call to let me know instead of letting me pick the car up and not notice the pull to the right was still there? The rotating of the tires was a $20 fix. Why wouldn't Progressive want to return to me a safe drive-able car? I think any insurance company should have to return you a safe drive-able car. They could have advised me that I needed a new tire when they released the car to me.

I have posted several times on Progressive's Facebook page wanting to know why a 24 year old male with 8 years’ experience and a clean record pays more for the same coverage, and often pays more for the same coverage than any teenage female with multiple accidents, DUIs and ticket on her record and this is all they have to say:
Jean at 855-266-8485 with Progressive wrote: "...all insurance companies agree that statistics and experience are the most valuable indicators of risk. Please feel free to contact us at 855-266-8485 and we'll be more than happy to review your policy and explain the rate". 855-266-8485 Jean, this is an open letter to you (and any insurance industry employee reading this): What insurance companies agree on is irrelevant because insurance companies have only one objective: Legally ripping off the many responsible 16-24 year old males who've never had a ticket or an accident to subsidize their extravagant lifestyle! "The end of Democracy will occur when the Government falls into the hands of banks and moneyed institutions." - Thomas Jefferson.
Case in point: In 2008, State Farm wanted a 47% rate increase in homeowners insurance policies in Florida. One person wrote to the Orlando Sentinel with a comment that really leaped out at me: "My sister works for State Farm and made $90,000 last year. Our friend works there as an agent and made over $700,000 last year. Get real State Farm. Pay your employees what the rest of us make and you can lower the rates not raise them." Another wrote: "The old GEICO disease. If you have to spend hundreds of millions of dollars advertising how low your rates are, they aren't all that low to begin with and would be lower still without the advertising overkill."
Remember the AIG bonus ruckus in 2009? "Help, bail us out or we will go under!" First thing they did was pay million dollar bonuses! Where do you think they got the money for that when they were solvent? If they weren't willing to trim their own pay checks first to stay afloat, they shouldn't have got anything from the taxpayers! "Statistics" are the LEAST valuable indicators of risk because "statistics" can be manipulated to support either side of an argument.
Example 1: At a certain college campus, there were over 10,000 students in the class of 1990. 25% of the female students in the class of 1990 married one of their professors. Sound like a lot of fraternization? But there were only 4 female students in the class of 1990. Example 2: I am learning to SCUBA dive. I want to learn in the ocean in an area where I am safe from shark attacks. I am going to rent a boat, go several miles out to sea in an area frequented by sharks and learn out there. I am going to avoid any area where the water is less than 6 feet deep. Why am I doing this? Because statistics show very clearly that most shark attacks occur in water less than 6 feet deep! These figures merely reflect the distribution of ocean swimmers: Most people swimming in the ocean are at the beach in water less than 6 feet deep!
Example 3: In the U.S. Congress, Representatives have more than 4 times as many accidents than Senators. My friend Ted is a Senator, therefore, he should pay only 1/4 of what Representatives pay. After all, statistics show that a Representative is more than 4 times more likely to be in an accident than a Senator. Once again, these figures merely reflect the distribution of Senators and Representatives! There are 435 Representatives and only 100 Senators!
Example 4: In a certain town, the men had twice as many accidents as the women. This information alone indicates that a male in this town is a higher risk than a female. (Twice as many accidents as the females) But there were 40 male drivers and only 10 female drivers and of that group, 4 males and 2 females were involved in an accident. This additional information indicates that the females are higher risk. (4 times as many men but only twice as many accidents) But of the 40 men, 20 were out of town during the study.
Quoting "statistics" for the purpose of setting automobile insurance rates should be a first class felony, punishable by 30 years in federal prison without parole! Insurance industry employees are not telling the full truth about "statistics" they quote, therefore, they should not be allowed to have Driver Licenses AND they should be required to pay "High Greed Insurance Industry Employee" Income tax rates which allow them no deductions and let them take home no more than the Federal poverty level! It all boils down to telling the full truth about statistics!
"Young males have the highest accident rate; therefore they should pay the highest rates. Why should I have to subsidize the hotshots?" (Actual quote by a greedy insurance industry employee.) The first problem is that accidents are part of an individual's driving record. An individual's driving record is already a factor in setting rates, a factor which would not be affected by prohibiting sex discrimination!
The second problem is that "Young males have more accidents than young females" is a half-truth which the insurance companies use to breed the very popular myth that "Young males have more accidents because they show off" (clearly reflected in that insurance employee's comment), a myth which 99.9% of the population has swallowed hook, line, and sinker! Fact: Men of all ages have more accidents than women primarily because men as a group drive nearly twice as many miles as women. Number of miles driven is already a factor in setting rates, again, a factor which would not be affected by prohibiting sex discrimination!
Statistics show that the overwhelming majority of people involved in accidents have last names that do not begin with the letter H. My last name begins with the letter H, therefore I should be getting a massive discount on my insurance. This is the exact logic insurance companies use to justify using sex, age, and marital status in setting rates! "Young singles have more accidents than young marrieds." Statistically true, but these figures merely reflect the distribution of young singles and young marrieds. According to the census, there are 3 times as many singles than marrieds among those 20-24 years old. Among teenagers, the disparity is even higher (stop and think, how many single 16 year olds are there for every married 16 year old?).
The problem with "youthful drivers have the most accidents" is that EXPERIENCE, not age is the factor! Most inexperienced drivers are also young drivers! Take a 20 year old male with 4 years’ experience vs a 50 year old who has never driven for health reasons, overcomes the health problems, and starts driving at 50 years old. He/she gets his/her license and has only 6 weeks of experience. Who is the greater risk? The 20 year old is STATISTICALLY more likely to be in an accident, but the 50 year old is ACTUALLY more likely! This is because most 20 year olds have less than 4 years’ experience and some are just starting while most 50 year olds have more than 30 years’ experience! Another actual example: in 1988, I knew a woman in Kansas who started driving at 29 years old. She had been having seizures all her life, and until brain surgery permanently stopped them, she couldn't get a driver’s license. Her first year of driving she had 3 accidents because of her inexperience, but because of her age and sex, she paid artificially low rates.
Quoting "statistics" for the purpose of setting automobile insurance rates should be a first class felony, punishable by 30 years in federal prison without parole! Insurance companies have started using FICO (credit) scores in setting auto insurance rates. FICO scores are none of an insurance company's business! Banks don't use your driving record to decide if you should get a loan, so why should insurance companies use credit scores to set rates? "People with poor credit are more likely to file a claim." Then you've answered your own question: Charge more to those who have filed a claim! (Those who HAVE filed claims, not those who MIGHT file claims!)
The biggest problem with using sex, age and marital status in setting rates is the high disproportion in rates among different experienced groups. (Actual examples I am citing here) A 24 year old single male with 8 years driving experience and a clean record paying $900 for one year of minimum coverage from the same company that charges only $250 for a teenage female just getting her license FOR THE EXACT SAME COVERAGE! Also the example of the company that charges $800 for a 24 year old single male with a clean record and charges only $600 for an 18 year old female with a DUI, 2 at fault accidents and a ticket on her record, again FOR THE EXACT SAME COVERAGE!
The ideal solution is the law in Massachusetts which prohibits insurance companies from using any combination of sex, age and marital status in setting rates but allows them to use number of years of experience. The result is that this puts the high rates where they belong: On the inexperienced drivers and the specific people with at fault accidents, not young males in general! Similar to a U.S. Supreme Court ruling in a case in 1976: In Oklahoma, the drinking age was 18 for females and 21 for males. The Court correctly overturned this law, and part of the reasoning was "Why should the many responsible 18-20 year old males suffer for the sins of the few?" Again, the people who HAVE had accidents, not the people (16-24 year old males in general) who MIGHT have accidents should pay more!
Summary: All the "statistics" in the world will NEVER EVER convince me that a 24 year old male with 8 years’ experience and a clean record is more likely to be in an accident than a teenage female getting behind the wheel for the first time in her life! The male is STATISTICALLY more likely, but the female is 10 times more likely to be in an accident than the male!
The solution is that all employees of any insurance company that uses any combination of sex, age, and marital status in setting rates should not be allowed to have driver’s licenses AND they should be required to pay "High Greed Insurance Industry Employee" income tax rates! Also, those same companies should not be allowed to use the word "save" in their advertising, rather, they should be required to use the words "we legally extort less from you"!
855-266-8485 Jean, I challenge you to answer my question here: Statistics show that the overwhelming majority of people involved in accidents have last names that do not begin with the letter H. My last name begins with the letter H, therefore I should be getting a massive discount on my insurance. Why aren't you giving me a massive break on my rates for that?
