I was excited to sign up with Progressive for my home and auto insurance. It was an easy process and their customer service people were helpful and made the switch easy. They were knowledgeable with the ins and outs of notifying my mortgage company and helping me plan out the timing so I didn't confuse the yearly payment from my impound account. All seemed to be perfect until...

I received a check in the mail from Progressive 1.5 months after I signed up for a little less than what my policy costs for the year. I thought it was an administrative error since I had not received any call or letter telling me there was anything wrong. I called them up and talked to one of their customer service people and was very bluntly told they canceled my Home Owners policy because of some risks found by the underwriter. I was taken back quite a bit from this. I was very careful to fully disclose everything to them - we have a dog (Golder Retriever mix), a trampoline, and an average 25 year old 2 story house.

The CSR told me that our roof has moss buildup and there is a large uplift on the sidewalk in front of our house. I asked if it was normal to not disclose this to the customer before just canceling, we are good insurers, don't make frivolous claims, so on. She said they don't usually call. I explained that we were already in contract with a roofer to replace our roof, which had one 2'x4' section right near our front door that did have some moss on it and needs dry rot repair. I also said the sidewalk can easily be patched with a bag of cement. She sort of apologized, but not really. I hung up and immediately called Progressive Auto Insurance and canceled my auto policy too. They were at least smart enough to waive the early cancellation fee and not charge me the extra $7 for the few days before I set up my new auto insurance.

Needless to say, they lost out on a new customer that could have brought them years of income with a small chance of claims for some things that could have been resolved with a formal letter or phone call. Shows how little they care about the customers, assuming all customers are out to get them with fraud and claims.

The window in my driver's side door was smashed by a flying rock. I called Progressive and was told I could not be found in their system - nothing, my name address, car. I guess my insurance was in the process of renewing and they could not help me till my check went through their system. I have had them for five years. Yes, that's what I was told. My check had to clear first and when that happened, I could call them back. They would not tell me a thing until they made sure they got their money. Don't I have continuous coverage? Guess not. After five years, I will be going somewhere else.

Alas, I must confess to being one of the poor sad-sack simpleton suckers who has fallen for the Progressive Insurance Company's very slick snake-oil peddling campaign that has become the now legendary colossal "snap-shot" program scam. Being an historic optimum life-long driver with an impeccable driving record of 40+ years, I truly believed - at first - that enrollment into the "snap-shot" program coupled with my aforementioned good driver rating would surely qualify me for maximum discount status. I've since learned - to my disappointment and chagrin - that quite sadly this is all just simply not true.... at least not in my case.

In terms of "hard-braking" and/or "hard-stop" (call it what you will) infractions, I have experienced numerous electronic infraction interpretation inaccuracies and false infraction registrations, all of which have led me to conclude via experience that the Progressive "snap-shot" program is presently flawed and should be recalled and suspended until such time as "the-bugs-can-be-worked-out" and the technology/application perfected prior to unleashing it upon the unsuspecting and ill-informed innocent public at large. At this juncture - and in my experience - it has become my sincere belief that Progressive has anxiously jumped-the-gun and released their proudly-touted "snap-shot" program in premature fashion - perhaps driven by their blinding profit-generating corporate mentality and subsequent salivating eagerness to get-it-to-market much too quickly, sans the proper degree of research and development required for a responsible "roll-out" introduction of a new service program to the consumer public.

A variety of false "hard-braking" penalty-infractions can register on the "snap-shot" device - and thus improperly, unfairly, and unjustly penalize drivers - e.g., when common plentiful pot-holes in the road are encountered, when certain types of speed-bumps are negotiated, or when brakes are tapped and/or "pumped" in order to test them for proper function & safety after going through deep water puddles in a rainstorm situation. I have also come to know that in addition to "hard-brake" penalty-infractions being registered for sudden-speed DECREASING and stopping activities, the "snap-shot" device will ALSO register a penalty-infraction when speed is suddenly INCREASED at the 7 mph/sec rate, or thereabouts. Case-in-point: whenever a driver has occasion to come to a full-stop in a left-hand-turn lane facing a heavy volume of speeding oncoming highway traffic, and then quickly accelerates - when there is finally a break in the oncoming traffic - in order to successfully negotiate a left-hand turn from the highway onto a side-road, such a common driving maneuver can trigger a "snap-shot" penalty-infraction for which the driver will most-certainly be unfairly "dinged", and thus penalized.

Upon conducting a fair amount of personal research into the raging "snap-shot" program debacle, I had come across a few articles and reports which advanced a suspicion that utilizing a "snap-shot" device can possibly cause some types of electronic damage in certain vehicles. At first I didn't give such claims much credence, but since that time, I have been re-thinking my position because my Electronic/Ignition Control Module has prematurely failed and my car will not start... and only a few short weeks after having installed the demon snap-shot device just simple coincidence? Hmmm, strange days indeed!!!!!!!

BOTTOM-LINE CONCLUSION: In my humble experience and attendant opinion, I believe that it is just not at all worth it for an insured individual to enroll in the Progressive Insurance Company customer snap-shot program. Not worth the time, trouble, nor expense involved especially when one considers the fact that very expensive (and inconvenient) electronic damage can possibly occur as the result of installing a snap-shot device by plugging-it-in to a vehicle's diagnostic port as instructed. The potential risks are too great, and thus cannot justify utilization of the device at issue.

When one of Progressive's insurance holders hit my new truck, I called and immediately filed a claim with them. I then took my truck to Fountain Valley Body Works, and they gave me an estimate and were all set to repair my truck, that is, until Progressive Insurance called them and told them to hold off on doing the necessary repairs until one of their own representatives could go out and inspect the damage. Okay, fair enough. They told the body shop that they would be out there the next day (Wednesday) and then proceeded to no-show and didn't call or give any indication that they wouldn't be going out there. They then didn't show up on Thursday or Friday, and offered absolutely no explanation whatsoever. My claims person called me on Friday and said that someone would "definitely" be out there Monday because they had "prioritized" my claim. It's now the end of the day Monday and no one has been out there. When will they go out there and give the body shop the green light to begin work? Good question.

In 2011, we reported our motor home and tow vehicle stolen to Progressive (and to the local police). We met with the agent and were told that when there was an active investigation by the police then contact them again - until then, they treated this as a civil problem. The person who stole the vehicles (and forged the transfer papers and bank loan payoff papers) is currently being prosecuted by our county PA. We have contacted Progressive through our lawyer and have heard NOTHING from them. So now we are forced to sue them!!! BTW, we had premium coverage with them and paid BIG bucks for it! What a terrible company!!

Recently I moved from Illinois to Alabama and my renewal for auto insurance coincided with the move. When I called Progressive to notify them of the change, they rewrote my policy. After the agent finished my quote she told me my new policy would be $570 which was $200 more than what my policy renewal would have been if I still resided in Illinois. I questioned the difference and was told it was due to different regulations between Illinois an Alabama. It didn't seem plausible to me. If anything as over regulated Illinois is, it should have cost me less in Alabama with Progressive.

Anyhow, eager to sign me on, the agent said this quote would lapse unless I acted soon. I told her I would think about it. Two days later, I receive an email from Progressive and as it was worded they were treating me as a new customer not one who had been with them several years. When I went to Progressive's website and logged into my account the new quote wasn't listed. So the extra $200 made sense. They were treating me as a new customer not as a loyal customer with what they consider platinum status and with it cost savings. When I called them back, the agent said, "I don't know what to tell you".

Progressive, I know what to tell you! You will never get my business again and I will do everything I can whether it's forums such as these to discredit you and your annoying spokes idiot Flo! I have since switched to GEICO with the same coverage yet a $200 savings and a most cordial agent to deal with.

I was with Progressive almost two weeks. They could not handle my claim, and the incident was not my fault. My policy was liability which means if any accident is not my fault then other driver insurance will cover my cost. Progressive did not handle the case very well and I was not satisfied. I decided to switch with 21st Century Insurance, and they offer me collision coverage with low price. I call Progressive to cancel my current policy, and they did not offer me refund. They also charge me extra just for canceling my policy.

They started out being nice and saying that they would pay for something comparable to the mailbox this customer hit and when it was purchased things changed. Because we couldn't find the exact one and we decided to go up to the next one now we are in a legal fight (seriously how stupid!) all over $80 difference. Watch out they are scammers and will try to nickel and dime and not pay what is rightfully owed!

Even though their insurer admitted to them and my insurance company he was at fault. They have neglected to contact me or return any of my calls. They have never sent out an adjuster or contacted the body shop about the damages. Told me it would take 5 months to get a police report and are trying to place the blame on me.

I have called numerous times to their claim agent and they never returned the call. At this time, it has been well over a week with no contact from Progressive. My insurance company has totaled my car. Now I'm without a car and no response from Progressive. They wouldn't even provide me with a rental car. They told me to go rent my own or have my insurance pay for the rental. I refuse to let my insurance pay since it wasn't my fault that the accident occurred. I wouldn't advise having insurance with Progressive and beware if you're in an accident with someone who does have it. Disgusted and angry.

I've called, left messages and emails, and still can't get anything in return. It's now 5 days and I cannot get my agent to return anything. I now have the at fault driver's insurance calling me asking what I'm going to do. If I have to do all this work myself, why do I have insurance? Why even make claims possible under Progressive? I got a call out of the blue from Progressive telling me that they would be covering the accident in question. I stopped all other legal recourse against the individual since I thought Progressive would be insuring the accident. After I stopped all other legal proceedings, Progressive now claims they are not going to be able to provide coverage. So they lied to me. I suspect that the agent that told me they were going to cover the accident colluded with the individual that hit me so that we would drop the legal suit. The statute of limitations has now run out and I'm left out hanging. As far as I'm concerned, Progressive is a fraudulent business and should be shut down.

Plus they are saying not enough damage to cause it either and if I can PROVE I had an alignment done recently, they will do one. Again WHAT, it did not pull before the accident but it does now. I am going to have to pick up my truck and take it to another shop and PAY to have work done when I have full coverage. Stay away... far away. Their service is HORRIBLE!! I was obliviously happy with Progressive for over 3 years. However, upon the renewal of my policy going into my fourth year with them, I realized just what a crappy company they really are. There was no notice of any changes in the policy or premium and it was automatically drafted from my bank account on June 26. Suddenly, on July 3, they kicked back my automatically debited payment of my usual amount and I received an email that same day saying that unless I could pay my new premium of $464.70 a month, my policy would be canceled predated back to June 26. This left me without insurance on a long holiday weekend, and on top of it all, predating my cancellation back 2 weeks made it look like I was without insurance for around 3 weeks.

In the state of North Carolina, they charge $50 a day when your insurance lapses, so I had hundreds I had to pay to the state to correct this. On top of it all, after three days of countless conversations with "agents" over the phone, I was unable to receive an explanation why my premium had increased over $300 a month and their "agents" were quite inept at most things. For instance, I had to explain to one of the women that I had indeed been driving longer than 1 year (I'm 27) and it is actually 11 years total - that you have to add the 7 years in Michigan to the 4 years in NC to get a total of 11 years experience. However, she was unable to understand that reasoning and insisted that they only had a driving record for me that was one year long.

I asked how that is possible given that I had been insured by them for over 3 years and she couldn't explain it. I asked if there was anything that could be done, anyone else I could talk to since I had been a client for over 3 years with zero points on my license and zero traffic/moving violations. I was told that I would have to pay the full $460 premium for Progressive to look into my driving records (which they should have had 3 years ago). Of course, I didn't have the money after paying over $900 in insurance lapse penalties to my state. Needless to say, one of our cars was financed and has since been repossessed since it looks like I was without insurance for more than two weeks. Since the car was only 1 year old, I have also had to start the process of bankruptcy since I am still responsible to pay off the entire debt, yet still need a car in order to commute to work. Big old mess and VERY upsetting that they want to charge me, a long-term client, $464 to obtain records they should have had 3 years ago with no promise of refund, yet someone who has never paid them a penny in premiums can get their records pulled and a quote for FREE. Absolutely insane.

I now commute on the bus from Durham to Raleigh. We have lost our car and house, and I am still struggling to find a company to insure me with zero points and zero traffic/moving violations ALL because Progressive has no sense of commitment to their clients. Very sad. This has affected my husband and children as well.

A few months ago, my 2002 Mercedes C240 got rear ended into another car from dead stop. Insurance covered the damages and the damages totaled close to the value of the car. I was told by the insurance agent that even though they are paying out for total loss, I could buy the car back ($2500) and fix it and keep the title clear. I paid the shop $6k to fix the damages, which were just hood and trunk repairs, got the car back and have been driving it under the assumption that everything was taken care of. A few weeks ago I received a letter from the state saying, I need to surrender the car's license plates along with the title because it is an insurance salvaged vehicle. Now I'm stuck with a car worth less than I paid to repair it, that's not even legal to drive on the road. I would really appreciate any help.

On July 4th, 2013 while out on the lake a downpour came. I accidentally left the top down on my 2005 Mustang Convertible. When I reached my car there was 2 inches of standing water in the floor boards and the seats were absolutely soaked. When I got in and turned on the radio there was no display showing and the speakers sounded horrible. I went home and tried to soak up the water with a shop-vac and towels. The next day and over the course of that weekend I left the vehicle out in the sun trying to dry it out as best I could. The stereo and other electronics never worked right after the rain and the smell in the car from mildew was horrible. As I mentioned this is a convertible and I feel that with the rain and then sun exposure the clasp on the driver's side just broke off (like a cracker) pieces of it crumbled in my lap while driving. I could not secure the top. When I thought I had it secured while driving almost 55 mph the top flew open. It was horrible; I drove the rest of the way home with my knees trying to hold the top down on my car (it was raining again).

I was trying NOT to make a claim as I knew this would cause a rate hike, which I cannot afford. I had to get the top fixed if nothing else. I called Progressive. The people over the phone who took my initial information were great. I thought this was going to be an easy issue to solve. NOT!! I got a call from someone named Garrett (talked with him 1 time for less than 5 minutes), told him I wanted to take my car to Wilburn Auto Body, he said that was fine. I received a call 1 week later from David ** who said I needed to pick my car up and take it to the Ford dealership. When I picked my car up I was so upset, I had to drive with my knees and hold the top down with my hands, very unsafe.

David ** on several occasions has indicated that I was not truthful about the water damage in my car, and as for the clasp for the convertible top it would not be covered. I have been so upset about the entire handling of this claim it has caused me severe anxiety. To top things off we got a rental car from Hertz and Progressive delayed in sending the authorization over. We have been charged over $100 for the rental car and as of this date 8/15/13 we have still not gotten our money back. I was told by David ** that I should take the car back and go to Enterprise. Again, further making innuendos that I make bad choices first being Wilburn Auto Body and now Hertz.

Today I received a call from Katie **, Managed Repair Representative for Progressive, stating that it was going to be another 10 days possibly before my car is repaired and that I needed to call Ford and order the clasp, pre-pay for it and have it sent over to the shop that Ford will contract through to fix my convertible top. I believe this to be part of the top, with a clasp that was damaged due to weather conditions, how can you make a repair to a damaged top without securing it which includes all aspects of the convertible top? How is this my responsibility?

In summary: Progressive can make this right by:

    • Work with Hertz to authorize the rental and help me get my money back.
    • Make the top damage as part of the water damage claim instead of making it a separate claim costing me another $500 deductible (they have now made my issue into 3 separate claims all with a $500 deductible).

    • Progressive is a large company and we have been a policy holder over 8 years on 2 separate occasions I believe they should as a gesture just do the repairs and forgo the deductible due to inadequate handling of my claim.

This entire experience has and continues to be a nightmare!! Please someone help us.

My niece was stopped at a light when a car, driven by a Progressive insured, slammed into her vehicle resulting in neck and back injuries. The driver attempted to flee the scene and slammed into another victim. She took off again, but this time slammed directly into an off duty police officer's car. She was apprehended and is now in prison for violating her parole by committing the crime of fleeing the scene. My niece treated conservatively with a chiropractor, accumulating only $1370 in medical specials. She mostly rested with ice and heat, but had considerable pain. Progressive made a final offer of $1200, which doesn't even cover her out-of-pocket expenses! She was not only injured as a result of a criminal act, but now owed money for her treatment! I stepped in to assist because I have been in the insurance industry for 25 years, most recently as a Vice President of claims. I could not reason with them and my niece was forced to file a lawsuit.

The suit now includes punitive damages that has left the Progressive insured uninsured for the significant portion of this lawsuit. They are behaving recklessly on behalf of their insured and unethically in their failure and refusal to make my niece whole after a violent collision and criminal act committed upon her. Progressive should not be allowed to get away with this type of behavior. My niece has been victimized twice. Once by the driver and now by the insurance company. Forcing a lawsuit where liability is clear and a reasonable demand presented ties up the civil courts and costs time and money for all parties. It is significant to note that the demand was only $4200!!!! Very very reasonable under the circumstances. We cannot let Progressive victimize law abiding citizens.

Soon the statute of limitations date was approaching. I agreed on an offer but the language in the settlement letter greatly implied that I really was not injured and I just wanted money.

I greatly resent Progressive. The accident was clearly the fault of the young lady and due to the settlement she was let off the hook to go after her for monetary damages. They still have not responded with payment. They have fired a least 1 AGENT because of this. I am now on the 4th one. He wants access to my complete financial records. This is a company that PRIDES itself on being there for their customers. I have sold my stock in them as of today. Time to get litigious with them. It seems the only way that they comply with the contract between them and the insured.

My husband thought it'd be a good idea to try snapshot on my car (VW Beetle) in order to qualify for a discount since I rarely drive further than the grocery store and the bank and back home again. My beetle is not a fast car and with my stupid low profile tires and rims on it - it drives bumpy and better slow. I always drive with my daughter in the car so I'm extremely confident that I was never speeding or breaking harder than needed.

After 5 weeks, my husband wanted to know why we didn't receive a discount, so he looked up the stats from my device and I had 3 trips with 0 hard breaks, 6 trips with 3, 5 trips with 5 hard breaks, and 1 with 10 and 1 with 13!!!!? There's no way. I'd have to let off my accelerator a half mile early and start breaking at a quarter mile away. Does anyone really drive that way other than an 80 year old couple driving to church? I never once heard the thing beep. I was dumbfounded and argued with my husband that it's BS until he slept on couch that night.

I don't think this device is working properly or Progressive has a scam going on to eventually raise rates all together from this device's recorded BS data. I'm very disappointed and if it worked, then cool, but if this is seriously how they judge your driving, then it's useless.

I had been with Progressive for almost 3 years & they are the worst company....ever! The claims reps are beyond useless. They never call you back or follow up with you. If you email them, they advise you to deal with someone else. I can't forget to mention that they set up rentals at locations over 30 miles from your home. The only time they have been remotely helpful was when I was hit by a fellow policy holder & he ran from the scene. They were so terrified I was going to sue them that they bent over backwards to prevent that. All the other times I've needed them, they've been a nightmare to deal with.

I was run off the road by a guy, resulting my car to catapult up on the lawn. First, they would let my car go where I requested, even though I have the right to say where my car goes. The car was never fixed properly & I immediately let them know. The claims rep never bothered to follow up to see what the issues were. Almost a month later, I was almost killed in a accident resulting from the car not being fixed properly the first time. What did they do? They charged me another deductible to fix the damage from that occurrence. They refused to have me covered under the other claim even though there was damaged that could be explained from the first accident & not the secondary one.

I was told I could save money by using Snapshot & I didn't save a dime. Now they're emailing me telling me I need to return it even though the adjuster returned it almost 2 weeks ago (or so he says). They lie, continually! I told them I wanted to cancel the policy effective my renewal date, but the customer service rep refused. He said I'll put it on "non-renew". He then proceeded to tell me that I didn't need to make a payment in July and only needed to pay the difference for a recent change in August (which equaled $75). I asked him 5 times about only having to pay that amount & the due date. He keep saying that's all I had to pay. Well, I called to make sure I was still covered (because I don't trust this company, at all) and I was told that I had to pay almost $400, not the $75 I was told.

Even though I continually told them I was not renewing my policy at my renewal date, they still kept sending me renewal paperwork. However, tonight, I get an abrupt email stating that policy was cancelled. When I log on, it states it's "active" but it also states "no coverage". **?! Calling customer service is pointless because they have no idea what they're talking about. All I know is, I better be covered or they'll be one hell of a lawsuit. Let's not even forget that my renter's insurance went from $230/year to almost $400/year. No idea why, and at this point, I don't care. I'm sure if I bothered to call, I would be told it was due to the storms. I've never had a claim with them & I live nowhere near the storm damage. So, it's BS to raise my rate that high.

To say I hate this company is a huge understatement. If they paid me to insure with them, I wouldn't. I'm starting with a new company with 3x the coverage I have with Progressive & I'm saving almost $1000/year on my auto & another $200/year on my renters.

On 06/26 my car was stolen from the mall parking lot. I filed a police report and reported the loss to Progressive insurance same day. The insurance agent sent me a package to sign saying that it's okay to get my cellphone record, bank statement, prior insurance, and my credit report for my husband and me. She called me and got a recorded statement from both of us of what happened exactly, where the car was parked, etc. Five days later the car was found somewhere else and it was missing a lot of parts from the inside of the car. They did a repair estimate and said that the car is fixable about 2 weeks later. Until this moment no step forward has been done and every time I call them the insurance agent says "we're doing investigation and it takes a lot of time so that we can get all your paperwork done."

Until this moment, today is 07/30, they didn't order any parts for the car or stated to repair the car and the last call today to the insurance agent she said that "getting the cell record require a different doc than the one that I sent to you" and that this process may take 6 more weeks to be over. More than 30 days passed and to get the cell record 6 more weeks may pass without even starting to repair the car that will take at least 45 days to what the repair manager said to me. I'm extremely upset with the way they treated me. I cooperated as much as I can with them. Every doc they sent me I sign it and still nothing good so far. I have a car rental coverage for only 30 days so currently I'm paying out of pocket. They still didn't even pay me for the car rental since they said that this will be at the end of the claim.

I wish that I can share this with everyone who has Progressive that if they get in any claims with them they will show the terrible ugly face. So basically I'm paying for insurance that if I need in case of any type of loss that the company give me a hard time and play around with me. I wish I can sue them.

My name is Michael **. I had insurance with Progressive through an affiliate company called Farm Bureau for 6 months, and other cars before this one. I had changed my Insurance from a 1996 Ford F-150 to a 1996 Ford Ranger and after paying for nearly six months on this vehicle they sent me a letter saying they could not renew my policy because I was living in a different state than where my policy was taken out at, but they had been sending me my billing papers to the address that I was staying at for the past year. They said if I felt they was in error to give them a call, so I did. I gave them and my agent a call. I asked Progressive where they got their info and they said they had taken it from an old Experian background check. So I called my agent and my agent said that it would be ok. But when I had my wreck on the 4-25-2013 it was then that I found out that my agent had lied to me and they had cancelled my insurance based upon their fraudulent reasons. They then said that I didn't try to renew which I have witnesses against them.

Since then my license have been suspended and I went to jail a month after the wreck. Sergeant Michael ** of the City Police of Chatsworth, GA said they told him that my insurance was canceled three days before my due date, and without any thought to their cancelling me so early he took it upon himself to take a state warrant out on me saying I gave him a fraudulent card, and he wasn't even at the accident. I tried to talk to my agent and he said that there wasn't anything that he could do. I will also being putting a complaint against Farm Bureau for their act of treason. I admitted that the wreck was my fault and I went and did everything that I could do to make it right, but Progressive got their opportunity to cancel on a client and so they did. Farm Bureau is just as guilty in this case. They were the ones that I had been paying on behalf of Progressive and they were suppose to let Progressive know, because I was their client. But according to Joshua ** of Progressive they couldn't take Eddie ** of Farm Bureau's word for it, but yet he was able to sale me the policy for them.

This is "TRASH". Why can't someone stop this lying company that has defrauded so many people? Why hasn't the Insurance commissioner shut them down or at least put a heavy fine on them? Someone knows someone... For how else would 625 complaints not be dealt with? The Police have ruined my reputation as a Pastor of 24 years. They put my picture in the busted paper before my court date that was to appear in a superior court with a jury and now I owe a great debt of fines and possibly court cost. The first lawyer I hired couldn't handle the case because he had never heard of anything like it. The Chatsworth magistrate court judge Dale ** couldn't understand why they bypassed him. I am an innocent victim. It must have been because I had to use their grace period from time to time or maybe it was because I couldn't afford full coverage at the time.

I pray that God has mercy on them because they have hurt so many people and caused so much unnecessary pain and hardship for so many. I am starting up a protesting group called "Christians United Activist Group.Org" and we will be protesting the insurance companies soon for reform across the nation be looking for our web site coming soon. I was a customer with Progressive for approximately seven (7) years. I have never received a ticket or was involved in any traffic collisions. Over the years, I saw the price of insurance provided by Progressive was steadily increasing. At first, I believe it was the inflation that caused such increase. The continual increase caused me to look into other competitors. I contacted a Progressive insurance agent (my fault for not obtaining the name, location of such agent) via telephone. As I began to inquired about the steady increase, I was directed to obscured answers. Rather than directly answering my concerns, the agent was more interested in selling other services. Finally, I decided that it was time to cancel the service and informed him (the agent) that I was not going to renew my policy.

The answer I received was that if I don't renew, I will not have coverage. This was the least of my concern and I told the agent I would not continue to pay for the service. After I got off the phone with the agent, I purchased insurance with another company. The price was not immensely different; however, the customer service was. Three months after I was insured with a new company, I received a letter from Warningnotice.com (a collection service). I thought I was a victim of an identity theft incident and called the company. I was informed by Warningnotice.com that "Progressive" had placed a collection on me. Moreover, Warningnotice informed me that they would have to report my credit status to the three Bureau which would greatly affect my credit score.

I have a near 800 credit score and therefore did not want to get my credit ruin and had to pay the amount. After paying the collection account, I attempted to call "Progressive" to file a complaint. When I spoke to the operator and asked for the complaint Department, I was transferred to several different people. When I was able to explain the situation that I did not owe them any money, I was transferred again. Eventually I was placed on hold for approximately 20 minutes. I was upset and hung up. This is a waste of time trying to deal with this company to fight for 140 dollars. My hope in writing this review is that it will reach out to customers who search for review contents of this company. Please be aware of such practice and proceed at your own risk.

I went to my bank account and they have charged me the same thing as always (full coverage) for less coverage (because they did change the coverage). I had a hard time trying to speak with someone. They will pick up the phone, laugh, and then hang up on me. What's up with that?

I finally found someone. I have to mention that the last person I spoke to was nice and very patient (I was already upset). I explained to her that I had full coverage and that I had called to change it. That it was supposed to be less and that they were still charging me the same. She also said that Progressive doesn't give full coverage (WHAT? ALL THIS TIME THINKING!!!). I searched and found out that for my car, I could have been paying the same thing for full coverage due to the fact that I am a good driver. Apparently, this company doesn't have that. Then she told me there is no such thing as full coverage in Progressive. She finally said she changed my policy and I will pay $2 less next and last month (I have to wait until then).

I did not get into any accident while I had this insurance (almost 3 years). You need to pay $50 to get out of this insurance once you are in. Good thing for me I am almost out. Hope this helps someone else. If this works for you, it's up to you.

I am once again requesting a one-time waiver of the fee in good faith. I feel I am justified in requesting this waiver of fee as I am not transferring my policies for frivolous reasons. I am moving my auto policies to State Farm because I moved my Homeowner's policy to them just a few months ago and I would like to keep my policies together.

Needless to say, I was not penalized by my former insurance company for switching to Progressive and I am quite appalled at this fee, as I have been a policyholder for 10 years and have not filed excessive claims, maintained a good driving record with no accidents, have not missed my monthly payments, and have been a loyal and responsible policyholder. I had terrible experiences with Progressive Homeowner's Insurance - unfair raising of coverage and premiums (which were reduced after filing formal complaints with the Dept. of Insurance) - and this past policy renewed carried an exorbitant surcharge for a wood pellet stove, which State Farm does not incur.

One of the representatives even copied me accidentally on an email he sent to his boss, which contained disparaging remarks about me. Since State Farm wrote my Homeowner's policy, I moved my auto policies as well, to take advantage of the multi-policy discount, much the same as I did with Progressive (again with no penalty cancellation fee). I would have kept my auto policies had Progressive not kept increasing the premiums and surcharges on my home policy (again with no claims filed). The service has been terrible for both lines and I am very disappointed.

I called to get a quote on adding my 17-year-old son to my insurance. I was given a six-month policy price and was satisfied that I would be able to pay this price. When I added my son, I received a policy renewal that was much higher than I was told and expected. I called very angry with no help. Then about six months later, I needed to buy a new vehicle. Now, first of all, I would like to say that I owned two vehicles that are over ten years old. Their total worth was less than $4000.00 apiece. So again, I needed something more updated.

I called into Progressive several times during my car hunt. We finally settled on a vehicle that is six years old. Total worth on this vehicle is $14000.00. Almost all my calls and quotes on different vehicles in the same year range were all around $1700.00 for a six-month policy. While difficult, I found we could just swing this. So we went ahead with our purchase. After the purchase, our new policy came in at $2600.00 for a six-month policy. This was $900.00 more than we were quoted many, many times! I have been a customer of Progressive now going on 15 years and have always paid my policy on time.

This was the second time I was told one thing and the price then turned out to be totally different. Progressive is fine if you NEVER make a change and keep the same policy on the same vehicle for 10 years. However, if you want to change anything, you will get inaccurate information and basically just blatantly lied to about what your policy premium will be.

The bottom line is, if you need answers or help, you will grow old trying to reach your claims rep. They will try to return your call that day, but if you aren't available when they call, then it will be 24 hours before you receive another call and you will never get a live person, only a recording telling you to leave a message. After growing frustrated with the communication process and being nearly 10 days out after my accident, my rep leaves me a message telling me to dial 0 and someone else can help me. I do as suggested and give the mystery rep my claim number, and the call is dropped with no call back. I try again and get put on hold and the 2nd call drops.

The process of investigating the claim is an even bigger joke. Two weeks out after filing a claim I hear back with a matter of fact delivery that even though I pulled forward into my parking space and was hit from behind, that I was at fault. Go figure since I was the one who chased down the woman I believed to have hit my car. No details were provided on the findings of the claim which I had to pull out of my rep when she finally got a hold of me, and she seemed annoyed by the fact that simply telling me they found me at fault was enough of an answer for me. She sounded stressed and overworked, and was ready to move on to the next claim.

This company is like an assembly line, and I was waiting for someone to yell "next" in the background. When asking for detailed information, I told her (my rep) that I would like to file an appeal because I don't feel the claim was properly investigated. I will be switching insurance companies after this negative experience as I would hate to have to deal with this organization if I were in a serious accident. I hit a rock up in the mountains with my VW Jetta. The rock was in my lane of the highway and there were several cars in front of me. They all cleared the rock, but clearance in a Jetta is much less. I could not avoid it. The impact was pretty hard and I expected to find body damage. There was none and I figured I just got lucky. It was getting dark and looking under the car, I saw nothing to raise alarm.

I had an hour or so drive home, so I went on my way. The car drove perfectly. There was no smoke. There was no sign of anything wrong. I got home, parked the car in the garage and left it there for two days. On the evening of the second day, I got in the car and backed out of the garage. I made it about three blocks and the car stopped. Very clearly, something was wrong. I had it towed to the closest shop I could think of.

Long story short, the rock had damaged the transmission fluid pan. Progressive agreed to pay for the damage (minus my deductible). It was then discovered that the transmission was shot. Progressive refuses to pay for a new one even though the damage was caused by impact with a rock - damage I was not aware of. I had an accident. I presented photo evidence of the transmission fluid puddled in my garage (indicating that there WAS fluid present in the car when I got home).

It appears there is a clause in my policy that allows Progressive to weasel out of paying claims called mitigated damages. Essentially, they are accusing me of being negligent which is quite far from the truth. I just didn't know that the rock did any damage. It's really slimy of Progressive. They've lost a customer and I'm probably out a car since I don't have $7700 lying around for a new transmission.

    Lessons learned:

    1. Have the car towed for any kind of impact. That's what AAA is for. I will, in the future, be quite the towing nuisance.
    2. Don't let the adjuster and the mechanic talk to each other. I should have been present when the car was inspected. I believe the mechanic probably put in his two cents about what he thought happened. When I talked with him today, he seemed to have some knowledge that Progressive has not presented to me.

    3. Don't be friendly with the claims adjusters. They are not your friends; they are actually your adversaries. Be assertive and cordial. But don't trust them.

I am so angry. In the spirit of disclosure (because I know the call was recorded), I screamed at the claims adjuster. I was upset, then a subsequent call of apology and request for more information. This is a clear abuse of a contract that is overly broad and skewed in favor of one party. It's dishonest and immoral - criminal even. Something needs to be done to prevent this kind of shady business practice. I paid my premiums so I would have coverage in the event that something happened to my or someone else's car like a good citizen should. I got nothing back for it. Wasted money.

Progressive asked me to bring my car to their office for an estimate. I told them I already had an estimate and that my repair shop would do the work. They argued about what they would and would not pay for but I assured them that my car was going to be repaired correctly. Then, they went back into hiding mode. Almost 5 weeks later, the car was finally finished. The repair and rental cost was $2150 - Progressive has paid NOTHING, and my insurance had to pay the bill and I had to pay a $500 deductible...

Please, I beg everyone if you are thinking of using Progressive, DON'T! Not only are they ridiculously expensive for the worse customer support ever, but they seriously don't care about YOU. My girlfriend and I have had Progressive car, home and umbrella coverage for several years. I used the snapshot program and they gave me 30% off, so I was happy. My girlfriend was given a 10% discount. At renewal, she asked for another opportunity to try for a better discount. They agreed with a warning that she could lose her current discount if she did worse. Sounds fair enough, but we noticed that her renewal was increased by $50 compared to last year.

When she called them, they said WI rates had gone up; except that I have received my renewal and it had gone down about $20. This makes it sound like what they are telling is false, or mine would have gone up too. Our accounts are completely separate. Okay, so she started the new period using the snapshot device. Her hard braking improved tremendously, and at the end of the initial 30 days, it said she would get the 30% discount. THEN the next day, they notified her that her new discount would be 13%, which is lower than the original 17% she had, and that she owed $25 more. Just the day before the system had told us she was getting a 30% discount, her hard braking was half what it had been before at 17% and nothing changed in her driving habit.

We were sure it was a simple mistake and called them. They arbitrarily insisted this was right. They would not listen to logic or give a reason besides saying other factors figure in. How do they justify charging her more for improving her driving? If they did not want to give her a second chance, then they should have just said so. We are looking for a different insurance company because we feel that Progressive is, how do I say it, showing their true colors.

Once again, another big corporation hiding rules and regulations! They state clearly that providing a Social Security number will give the most accurate quote. I hate giving out my Social Security number due to the recent amount of fraud and identity theft going on, but I have been in a situation before in which my credit score made my policy go up so I figured it would be best to put it in. After receiving my quote, I paid in full for 6 months, and two weeks later, I get a notice telling my premium will go up unless I mail in proof that I was at my current address for over 1 year. Nowhere on the application did I see "for accurate quote, please have verification of residence that dates back over 1 year.” Even though I have lived at my current residence for over a year, I didn't switch over my vehicle registration for months after because I was waiting until I had to renew my tags. I also didn't change over my license. My former address was my parent's place so it really didn't make too much of a difference where my registered address was.

Long story short, I was not willing to fax them over my bank statement which is the only thing I have from that long ago that links me to my address. I have had many policies before and this was never an issue. In my opinion, it should be illegal for an insurance company to 1) require a person's SSN should they be paying the total of the policy upfront. Why should my credit score matter? I'm not asking for credit! 2) It is ridiculous that they would want my bank statement. As I mentioned, they have my SSN and now I should be required to give them my bank info so that they don't charge me more on my policy for not being able to prove that I was at my current address for over a year. I can't believe the crap that these big corporations are allowed to get away with. And people wonder why there is so much fraud.

Now, the true reason I am furious is because I never would have signed up with Progressive and given them so much of my personal information had I known this. Now they have my SSN and much more info in their database and I have no idea how to get them to erase all my info. Should they get hacked or have hired the wrong employee, I am now at risk and they don't even provide me a service as I canceled my policy due to this shady transaction. It's really time that the people start getting rights and protection back instead of letting our government be influenced by lobbyists and big businesses. T-Mobile is another garbage corporation that I will soon be writing a review about and requesting the service of a lawyer.

I was in an accident on Dec. 20, 2011. I was hit by a driver turning into me as I crossed a busy intersection. The impact caused my son and me to get thrown into a light pole, completely totaling my car. The police officer at scene recorded events and determined that the other driver (Progressive Insurance holder) was at fault. The next few days, the adjuster called and was so rude and tried to force me to say the accident was my fault! I had no intentions of obtaining a lawyer but I did. They took so long that my totaled vehicle rack up almost $2,000 in rent at the tow yard. Then Progressive refused to look at the car until I paid to have it moved! I borrowed the money! Finally, the adjuster came and said that the other driver was at fault and that the car was totaled. Duh!

Meanwhile, I am still paying the payment on a car note for a totaled car. I finally received the collision check to pay of the car I had just purchased in November 2011. At which point, Progressive stopped paying for a rental car and I was forced to pay over $2,000 in rental fees until I could afford to make a cash downpayment on another car. I finished up my therapy for myself and my then 12-year old son. I still have not received one offer from them. The agent kept asking for erroneous information and requesting multiple copies of things they have already received. Is my son left or right handed? Birth certificate to prove he is my son. Now, the insurance agent has recently gone on vacation for three weeks! This is ridiculous. I should sue them under the NC Unfair Claim settlement Act. Do not deal with these people. I have been a very loyal, diligent paying customer of Progressive for many years and even recently added my home insurance to my policy. I even returned to Progressive after a failed attempt to try another cheaper insurance company. Not only did I experience a complete lack of communication by Progressive, but they also cost me an unnecessary large sum of hard earned money with their negligence. I will be conveying my extreme disappointment to the insurance commissioner, BBB and anyone who will listen.

While I received a canned, "We are sorry, we will use this as a learning opportunity" from the many people involved at Progressive, they made no effort to rectify the situation they caused. If this were an insurance claim and the party is expressing admittance of guilt, wouldn't that mean Progressive is completely responsible? Communication is key in any customer driven business and Progressive demonstrated a complete disregard for in which it cost me personally and monetarily. Aren't insurance companies supposed to be their consumers' advocate?

In result, I will be pulling my loyal business from all of their services and no doubt I will be using any platform available to express my displeasure with a company that at one time had their customers' best interests at hand. I truly hope they use this as a learning experience, but unfortunately for me, my learning experience began and ended with Progressive's horrible, dare I say, advocacy of this once loyal consumer.

Progressive Insurance sent a fraud collection letter to our home - we had called in the earlier months of this year to get a quote. We had not been driving our car so we did not have insurance. So when they asked us if we had insurance, we told them no and now, we have a fraud collection letter for $1,432.55 from Chicago of all places. And they are on the Eastern sea board and they are never available to take calls because they are always closed when we call. They call themselves uninsured motorist so I know that they got my husband's information from a quote that we called in about.

I guess that they are getting more "progressive" in trying to rip off innocent people as my husband was in the VA Hosp on the date that they said he was involved in an accident. So it is as plain as can be that they are trying to rob people and charge people who are innocent. They would probably have the information on the car also as they ask for all that when they ask you for a quote. So I would say, don't even go to Progressive to ever get a quote for your car insurance because they will use the information against you if they can. An innocent bystander - I see more and more fraud perpetrated by Progressive Insurance. We did not go with them as their quote was too high. Because I decided to refinance the mortgage on my house, Progressive raised the rate on my auto insurance! Their explanation was that because of the multiple views of my credit report (to be expected given that I was refinancing a mortgage), I was an increased credit risk which entitled them to raise my rates even though I had no accidents or tickets. In fact, my credit rating was in the high 700s so I was in no way a credit risk. These guys are scammers and I was able to lower my rate by nearly $1000 per year (for 2 cars) by switching to Esurance.

Because my car is old and had 100,000+ miles, it was declared a total loss by the insurance adjuster. The damage was 95% cosmetic and the rest being made up by a bad need for a 4-wheel alignment (bear in mind I drove the car home from the accident site - some 50 miles and later to the repair shop on more than one occasion). There was no engine damage whatsoever, and I'm not ready to give up so easily on a Honda. The estimate was unnecessarily driven up by the need to repair 2 largish hail dents on my hood, and a cracked windshield which were both pre-accident. Ultimately, it was driven up to a point that was within $100 of 75% of the value of the car so it could be deemed 'totaled'. When I showed the estimate to my repair shop (owned by a friend of a friend), he actually laughed and asked me if they were serious.

I was given the lowest possible value for my car. It was compared against other vehicles that were not remotely similar - one having twice as many miles and no details about trim packages (I have a rear spoiler and sunroof). When I asked for more specifics about the comparisons, they weren't available. When I made references to NADA and KBB, I was told they used "industry standards" to make their evaluations. I never got the opportunity to ask them to clarify what constituted "industry standards" since it obviously isn't anything that the public has access to. Because my car was totaled there was a salvage fee. Despite the apparent damage to my car, the salvage fee was jacked up at least twice the amount of what it should have been. I know this only because my auto shop helped me do the research.

When I explained that I was going to have the car fixed because I'm not in a position to be authorized for a car loan, I was told that my employment status wasn't relevant to the value of my car. I tried to be fair and honest, mentioning that all I wanted was enough money to make the repairs to my car. I made the mistake of using "I've been a loyal customer (for over ten years)" as a bargaining chip and was basically told that it didn't mean squat. Then I got angry.

I made it a point to find multiple listings which were similar in features and miles of my own car. I argued the point that what they were offering me wouldn't even allow me to go find something similar to my car, and set them with the task of finding something that was - no viable answer for that. I got my own estimate which came in well below the insurance company's bid. I tried to tell them that the car shouldn't have been totaled in the first place given my estimate compared against the revised value. Then they threw the "industry standards" back in my face, even though it's safe to say I pretty much proved that the estimate was bogus all the way around. I even asked if I could have a second estimate done by the insurance company. I was given a flat out, "No, we don't do that."

By this point, I just kept talking regardless of how inane my argument, making sure to make lots of references about social media and word of mouth, until I heard them say, "I can run this past my supervisor," just so they would escalate my case and move it along to shut me up. I was able to achieve this twice and each time, I was given a counter offer. It's against my nature to be aggressive, angry and out for blood but it seems to be only way to achieve a positive outcome for yourself when it comes to dealing with insurance companies. Luckily, I actually had the time to make a nuisance of myself, but overall it was an arduous time-consuming process.

The icing on this half-baked cake was when my auto shop informed me that a non-ASE certified/outside Honda specs repair had been made to my car. I was T-boned in an accident many years prior and took my car to a "preferred" insurance shop then. I could write a novel about that experience. I made sure to tell the insurance company about that also, in this case as my own form of insurance to ensure that my payout check arrived promptly. To their defense, I had the check within two days.

The moral of the story, insurance companies play dirty. Do your research, stand your ground and get your claws out. Just make sure you put them away when you're done.

His last renewal notice was high by almost $500, so he called them to clarify last week. They informed him that he had two points on his history and as a result, his rate increased. He was shocked because he was not aware of this, so he went to the DMV to retrieve his full vehicle history, and noticed that it was spotless other than a four stop signs he ran in early 2011, not given any points for it. I called them the next day so they could rectify this, and the lady was very rude but gave me the fax number to send over the papers from the DMV. She said that I could check back the next day to ensure they had received it.

I called the next evening and spent close to 3 hours dealing with this situation. As it turns out, Progressive awards points to their drivers if they have any violations, whether their driving records are clean or not. She knew that this was not showing on my dad's driving history but regardless, they still increased his rates. I requested proof of paperwork for this, and she told me that she could only give me a paper with the date of the violation, but not the point system given as this was an internal decision. So regardless, she couldn't help us. Not only were the news bad, but the way I was provided this information was rude and this lady sounded bothered to be on the phone with me.

I am very upset with them because despite of my dad's loyalty to them, they have had no consideration towards him. I got on the phone with Geico right after that and the lady I spoke to was nice and pleasant, and you can really tell the difference in training that these company associates receive. We also insured his home with Geico at the same time. I spoke to Miller Insurance 3 different times for over 1 hour total. They promised me that he knew how to insure an RV full-timer and that was their specialty. I listed everything we had in the RV to make sure we were covered. Due to the number of electronic devices I had, they suggested that I purchase an additional $10,000 full replacement cost coverage for my computer and ham radio equipment, on top of my contents coverage. Reread that, "full replacement cost." I trusted what they said and purchased all the insurance that they recommended.

6 months after I purchased the Progressive policy from them, I was parked next to a building that took a direct lightning hit. The surge went all through my RV causing much damage. The adjuster came out to look over all our ruined electronics. I had $6,000 worth of damage that needed to be fixed or replaced. What a relief that I had bought that extra full replacement cost insurance. But wait! According to the adjuster, $10,000 full replacement cost does not mean $10,000 full replacement cost. It only means up to $2,500 per category and it only means up to $1000 per item! What a shock! The adjuster showed me the limitations in print. I still could not believe it. They would only pay me $3,000 for the $6,000 in damage no matter that I had paid for extra full replacement cost.

My husband got into an accident when a Progressive driver decided to go across a divided highway without knowing if he could go and my husband had seconds to stop at 45 mph and ended up t-boning the guy totaling both cars. My husband was not at fault on the police report and the other party involved also admitted to being at fault. We then made a claim against Progressive assuming they would make us whole again, a big mistake! If you hear only one thing, hear this! They are going to ask you to come in just to go over your medical coverage which more than likely consists of your insurance being responsible for the majority of your health costs and you being responsible for the rest which they should be covering for you and also lumped in this is compensation for you having to go through this and any lost wages.

Here is the important part. We owed still on this car about 2 1/2 years. We had already paid 2 1/2 years of the loan. You need to before this appt. look up how much your car is worth on KBB.com and then subtract your loan from that total and keep in mind that if you have a surplus or negative balance, then you need to look for any and all cars like yours that are available for purchase to get an idea of what it will cost you to replace it, which in our case the base price alone went up anywhere from $2,000-$3,000 not including fees. Then also calculate how much you have paid into the car.

We had put $3,000 down and had paid around $2,600 over the last few years. Our remaining loan amount was $6,550 and logic would tell you that is all you should be out of after this process is done! So then, calculate the difference which in my case would have been around $15,150; take that total and subtract your KBB.com estimate for your car - which mine was around $7,800 leaving a balance of $7,350 to be paid to me for the balance to be paid as if this never happened to me and I am whole again. Not to mention tack in about $2,000-$3000 for comp. and lost wages b/c you can and they usually do this making that balance around $10,350. Do not sign that bodily injury release form w/o that number being on that check!

Just say then, "I think I am going to wait for the property damages portion of this process and we will see what we can do then and maybe throw in a reputable personal injury lawyer that you are maybe going to speak to." This may seem outrageous and maybe unfair but we basically are out about $8,000 from not going this route. They will screw you over. They are not ever looking out for you! When you really think about it, why are they so eager to do the bodily injury release apart from the property damages? It is because you will have had enough time to either really start feeling your injuries or have really done some research and added up what you are owed!

I really think that had I known all of this, we would be so screwed right now. I am not a crazy angry person. I just wish I had someone warning me of how people really are. They will seem so nice and that they are truly sorry for what happened and then the day of getting the property damage check, that same person won't even be there to give you the slap in the face. They will send out some intern who has to deal with what that person has done. Please listen and best of luck!

After quoting Progressive as the most affordable a month before my other policy was to expire and I paid for the policy in full a month before my other policy was to expire... they never sent the information to my mortgage provider resulting in some letters and hassle a month after the policy began to clear up at which time when the mortgage company contacted them, they informed them that my policy had been cancelled which I did not know. Then when I called them, they informed me that the cancellation papers were going to be sent out at the end of the week to me (how nice of them).

When I asked why my policy was cancelled, I was informed that it was the condition of my home (moss on the roof). Considering I live under trees, my husband power washes the house including the roof every spring. It just now turned spring. So when I asked why according to the pictures, 1 cubic foot of moss and that is summing up all the moss entirely on the roof causes a policy to be cancelled, I was informed that every policy is different. They said that I could clean the roof and have it verified and they would reinstate the policy. No, if my house had dirt on it because of a strong storm, would my policy get cancelled later?

No, thank you. Do not use Progressive Home. Their inspectors are unrealistic because apparently all of the houses in my neighborhood are all in hazardous condition. That darn fungi!

Although it probably does not matter to anyone, the commercial advertising "get ready to bundle" is by far one of the most annoying commercials Progressive has ever aired. I can't stand the yelling and turn the mute button on or change the channel when this commercial comes on. However, the one they air with the "rate suckers" I found to be so funny I thought I was going to fall off my chair. Police report and the insured agreed it was the Progressive insured's fault for car accident. Our brand new car - not even the first payment had been made - had front bumper damage. The brackets to hold the bumper were weakened and the mountings were elongated which made it unwise to try to repair the old one - Progressive spoke with our insurance agent and we had an estimate sent in to both insurance companies. The repair shop then ordered the new bumper after both insurance agents agreed. The following Monday, we were told to drop off our car for repair.

That's when we were inundated with phone calls stating we would have to go through our own insurance to be covered and they would only pay our deductible. Bob, the adjusting manager, and Jennifer, the Progressive adjuster, both refused to allow a new bumper to be paid for. Bob told me that he was not required to make me "whole" with a new bumper regardless of what the estimate said and he said a repair was fine even though the car is only four weeks old just off the showroom floor! He said the repair shop was not one of Progressive's and even though we could have them fix it, he did not have to pay for the work. He said he could tell from a picture that the bumper only needed repairs. It was cheap, cheap and unreasonable - I am so glad to have a reputable insurance company. There is no "nice Flo" available like in the commercials! I would never ever recommend Progressive to anyone!

His voice mail said, "If you leave a message after 5, you will be contacted the next day." I decided to get another claims person to help me. This person said he would put everything together for me and send my claims so I can get the car fixed. The next day I called back to find out nothing was done, and the person I was on the phone with said they need to put my information together to get my claims together and get the car fixed.

It's been 13 days now and nothing has been done. I had to tow my car myself to a shop and paid out of my pocket. I kept calling the claims department, and they kept telling me that I would have to pay since the other girl that hit my parked car has no liability on her insurance and my policy would increase. This is absolutely ridiculous. I pay my insurance every month on time and I pay for full coverage. My car was hit when I wasn't in it and the police came and wrote a police report stating the girl is at fault, and yet I still can't get my car fixed and my insurance company won't help me with what I pay them to do.

Progressive's insured, driving an SUV, backed into my much smaller compact in a parking lot. As a result, my right wrist was placed in a cast, which later was found not to be fractured. Both wrist and an ankle were sprained along with other pains. I kept hearing from Progressive that with low impact, the injuries should be minimal. I'd gone to a reputable clinic with many of their doctors recently being awarded and was seen by a few of their orthopedic specialist. I was out of work for three weeks and treatment for four months. I still have problems with my right wrist which was severely sprained. The claim rep even asked that I come by his office so he could determine the injuries as if he were medically trained; believe me he wasn't. I asked.

The vehicle claims reimbursement was even more of a pain. Due to disputes from both myself and the repair shop on what was to be covered in the repair, it took over a month for my vehicle to be repaired. Progressive originally stated the shop said they refused to fix the vehicle due to previous damage. Although there were some previous damages, it did not include the areas that were damaged by the insured. The shop of course did not say they wouldn't fix it but believed more should be covered by the insurer. There were three provisions to the quote of what Progressive was willing to pay for the repairs, each increasing in time and money. However, at the end, they blamed me for it all and refused to pay more than 11 days for the rental which meant I was out over $700. The repairs covered only included labor and parts and I was stuck with a bill for the paint which needed to blend into a previously damaged area. I'm out another few hundred bucks.

The shop owner was a really nice guy who relies on insurer's payments to remain in business so he didn't want me repeating to them what he'd let me know. Progressive had asked he not repair fully a portion of the frame that was bent, to use lesser than standard parts with the adjuster stating woman are the best because they are too dumb to know the value of good repair. He walked me through what to say to get them to agree to the additional repairs. I've contacted legal counsel (but will not report what the shop owner confided) and filed a complaint with the Insurance Commission. The offer for injury and damages is laughable.

After my husband and I got married, I finally got around to merging our insurances. In the end, there wasn't a huge financial benefit, but I just wanted to reduce our payments to various places. I spent hours on the phone comparing options between merging under my policy (USAA) and my husband's (Progressive). I specifically asked Progressive if there would be any penalties to canceling my husband's policy and they said no, that we would only pay a pro-rated rate. In the end, I cancelled and was charged $50 to cancel.

When I called, they said that it was a fee charge by the state of California for canceling his policy early but basically, they knew it would be charged and chose not to inform me of it. And I should point out, it was the last month of his policy, so we could have waited a month and not been charged it. When it comes time to hunt for insurance again, I would count them out for their intentional misinformation. I should point out that I am an attorney and thought I was very thorough in the process and it never even occurred to me that there would be a charge from the state of California. So if I got the short end, I can only imagine what Progressive would do with someone that was in a hurry to change/cancel a policy.

A month ago, March 20th, I was stopped at a stoplight when a careless driver speeding neglected his brakes and tried to wing it (switch lanes from the right lane to the left lane). The dummy did not fully pull into the left lane (at that moment, the light turned green) and I was sideswiped by that idiot (tail light busted, rear left fender, rear left door, driver door, driver side mirror, front driver side fender damaged). He kept going speeding off into traffic. I pulled into a business area and called the police, filed a police report. Then I called Progressive to file a claim.

After about 23 minutes on the phone, the agent (Mr. George **) stated, "Why did you stop in the middle of traffic?" I dropped the phone. Really, I tried to keep my cool and remain professional, but that was completely stupid. About a week later at one of their Progressive recommended shops, they claimed the damage is $3,400 to repair and Mr. George ** stated to me that I was at fault for stopping at a green light. The police report basically states that this was a hit and run. Officer David ** sent Progressive this information. Oddly, Mr. George ** dismissed and disregarded the information (what a complete moron).

We got stuck on a four lane highway in white-out, blizzard conditions. We got over as far to the right side of the road as we could without getting stuck in the ditch. Our hazard lights were on and visibility was zero. We called 911 and they confirmed that what we were doing was correct and that we should just stay put because everyone else on the road was in the same situation. They said that even their troopers could not move and that we should just remain in the vehicle. Later, when conditions were still the same, a semi truck came up from behind but in the left lane. The cab of the truck passed us, but the trailer jackknifed and crashed into the driver's side of the car. The truck pulled in front of us and stopped in the right hand lane.

A few minutes later, another car pulled up behind us and stopped behind us. We called 911 again to try to get police to come so that we could make a police report. They said that the police officers could not move because conditions were too bad. Visibility was still zero, so we all waited in our vehicles. About 45 minutes later, the passenger of the semi came out and gave us the driver's information including the fact that he had Progressive Insurance. Then they left the scene before police could arrive. Because we had young children in the car, who were getting cold and because one of the damaged car doors did not seal properly, we drove to safety.

We found out later that the highway we were on was actually closed due to extreme weather shortly after we got onto it. We called to file a claim with Progressive and the claims adjuster has been nothing but rude and condescending to us. Every time we stated a fact, she had a comeback for why that put us at fault. When we said the road was closed, she said "Then you shouldn't have been on it." When we said that a vehicle stopped behind us, she said "Then it is obvious that other people were driving and you shouldn't have been standing still." When we said we certainly would have been moving if conditions were good enough that we could see to drive, she said "Well that's your opinion."

They are refusing to accept responsibility for their driver hitting us. They are saying that it is our fault because we were stopped. They are also saying that because another car pulled up behind us, conditions were fine for driving even though the road was officially closed at the time. This is causing an extreme amount of stress for our family. I am astonished at how a company can be so unethical that they would deny fault when it was clearly the fault of their insured semi truck driver. I am telling everyone I know to stay away from Progressive because they are a dishonest company and they are hurting innocent people!

George ** at Progressive San Antonio refused 100% of the claim, stating the damage to her car and damage to his car indicated that she had somehow sideswiped him, which is physically impossible to do when you're in the same lane. Instead, the damage was completely and solely compatible with an accident caused by an impatient driver who was not controlling his speed or following distance and who had to swerve to the left just prior to impact when he realized he was going to hit her.

On my way out, to my right, I observed a speeding vehicle and did my very best to avoid impact by immediately stopping. That was my only choice. Being unfamiliar with the area, I made the mistake of leaving the scene as I did not feel safe and did not want to get blamed for someone else's poor driving.

I drove to the nearby library which was my next errand. The other party followed, beeping at me. When I got out of my car, the huge woman driver was yelling and saying that she did not trust anyone, her viewpoint being that she was the injured party. A policeman then came to that location. He made the tactless comment that the woman would not have been at fault even if she were driving 100 mph as it was a privately-owned area (it's really good to know that in places where we walk and park, we are not safe from those who refuse to use common courtesy).

Long story short, the agent Rojas called me several times. She favored the lie that I was at fault because the officer saw it that way. The perpetrator took it upon herself to blame and actually wanted to testify against me. I ended up having to go to court and was fined for some time. Progressive did rub away the visible scuffs on my car front. However, they were not supportive of me when I was on the other side of the country! They then doubled the amount of my insurance when renewal time came! I canceled and will never use them again. I had been their customer for years, with a good driving record. After the repairs, I got a phone call telling me that I hit a pole and am 100% at fault now. They said that the yellow colored paint and even marks show clearly that I ran into a pull and kept driving because the damage was stretched from tire to back bumper.

They also said it would be surprising if it was actually a car because there aren't many yellow cars out there. Are they nuts? Yellow taxis ring a bell? I even had their snapshot-tracking device which showed that there was no activity of my car being driven, let alone turned on, from early that night to the next day. (The hit and run happened in between.) They claim this doesn't prove that I didn't hit a pole and indirectly told me I was lying. They also said maybe if I filed a police report, it would help, the opposite of what I was told before. I am switching as soon as I can and do not recommend them whatsoever.

I had to ask a couple of times to please send me a copy. On 3/15, I finally got a copy of what I signed. I was shocked! It was a Full Release on all Claims! I couldn't believe it.

Was it the Vicodin that caused me to totally believe this agent and not review the document? I emailed agent and advised that I would have never signed had I known it was a Full Release and I must have been really out of it that day! That would have been crazy, only 4 days after the accident. I asked about pain and suffering? She said that's what the $800 was for. What?! It's so not what she said in person or in emails. I'm now being sent to get an MRI as my neck is not getting better. I feel this agent totally took advantage of me especially when I told her up front that I was completely out if it from being on Vicodin. She lied and totally misled me.

Now I am going to be stuck with medical bills due to a careless driver. I have reported to Dept of Insurance and I'm waiting to hear from them. I am still in shock that I believed this agent and will now pay for someone else's negligence. All this and I am also disabled due to a chronic illness. I hope this isn't regular practice for Progressive and this shocks them as well. If not, how sad it is to take advantage of people with false information.

In January of 2012, there was a very minor accident in a private parking lot where in backing up at night in the rain, the corner of my bumper impacted the top of the bumper of another vehicle. The other vehicle did not have its lights on and therefore I did not see it coming. The damage was very minor (a 3-inch scratch on the top of the bumper), which resulted in about an $800 repair. The adjuster from my insurance company, Progressive, charged me with the accident and paid a no fault claim which resulted in my rates doubling. I had reported to the adjuster, Mr. Gregory **, at the Knoxville, TN office what had happened including the other driver did not have his lights on.

I heard nothing back from Progressive at all and did not worry about this because it was and should have been a no fault situation. No one ever came and looked at my vehicle at all. In May of 2012, I received my renewal notice and was floored because my rate had doubled. I called to find out why and was told that Mr. ** had charged me with the accident with 3 points and had paid the claim. I talked to Mr. **, who was very arrogant, telling me it was his decision and he wasn't changing it. He said the other driver said he had his lights on. This is my insurance company. He refused to do anything at all. In trying to get help, I found that all the contacts I was given by the company where his supervisors are in the same office with him and all I was told by everyone was I had to talk to him. I did talk to Kari ** in another office and she told me I had to talk to him.

So my insurance company paid a claim they should not had paid in the first place, took the word of the other party over their client, did not communicate this information with their client, and even now gives the same runaround and chain of command to file complaints to. This is horrible customer service along with very poor company structure to deal with problems caused by a claims manager. Everyone makes mistakes and they can be corrected.

The damage to her vehicle was $1038 for a scratch and a small dent the size of a 50-cent piece, but now Progressive is saying that I owe $9,000 in medical cost, for injuries that I can't know about and that she stated she was not hurt at the accident site.

I've had two vehicles insured with Progressive for over 3 years and thought I was with a good company. Well, recently, I bought a Freightliner Sprinter 3/4 ton van which they would not insure. This van is the exact same vehicle as a Dodge Sprinter and a Mercedes Sprinter. They will insure a Dodge Sprinter, but neither of the other two. The only difference is the grill, 4" decal on the rear door and the 1" decal on the steering wheel. In 2008 Freightliner was a Chrysler motor affiliate and all the manuals are from Chrysler Corporation (Dodge). They will insure a Dodge, but not the other two. I had to get a single policy at a different insurance company at about the same rate as two vehicles with Progressive. These customer service clerks at Progressive cannot and will not check with dealers, upper management or anyone else to remedy the situation. Warning: do not plan on getting a Sprinter insured at Progressive.

But my insurance card said that my insurance started on 2-5-2013. I called in on 2-21-2013! JD said there was nothing they could do until the next day. While I had no choice but to wait till the next day, the chip turned into a crack half way across my windshield. So when I called the next day and talked to another claims rep named Judy, she informed me that they would not cover the replacement. So I had to pay $350 to fix it out of my own pocket.

I have had them the last 4+yrs. Rates were high but not exorbitant. I switched to them because they quoted me lower at the time (yet raised back up eventually to where I was before anyway). I got hit by a truck into another car. I drive a 7-seater SUV. I did not get a comparable vehicle and have to take turns with baby/bigger kids carpool because everyone does not fit in this compact car. I actually had to rent my own car because they have this contract with Enterprise which required me to pay several hundreds in cash/credit for deposit. Why do I need that kind of deposit to use a service I've been paying for the last 25 yrs?

So here we are - I have back/spinal injuries and I'm forced to cram up in a tiny compact car daily. It only makes the pain and recovery worse. As far as I'm concerned, they should be held accountable for inflicting extra pain by forcing this tiny car. They are subrogating the other guy's insurance and the law requires we get a comparable vehicle. So Progressive knowingly chose to ignore the law and forced us into this vehicle (a bill they are not ultimately paying anyway).

They discouraged my choice of repair shop (dealer). They ignored/missed/attempted to not cover some damages until I requested estimates and called them on it - citing the pictures we took at the scene. They ignored my request to use OEM parts on certain areas because of the major systems being affected - and continued to install their choice of parts. Some agents have been rude on the phone. They have even "closed" the injury part of my claim although everyone in my vehicle at the time was or is still being treated for various injuries.

Not to mention - I still have to find a way to get back to get my vehicle and hope that it's right when I get there - or I will have wasted hours and gas driving to get it. My vehicle had just had major service 2 mos ago. They will replace radiator (after market) yet put the thermostat from the old manufacturer radiator on this new radiator. It seems to me that if the radiator was bad enough to replace - at some point starting the car could have pushed the cooling system and now it's a matter of time before there is a problem. They won't even realign my car afterward although we have proven impact in front and rear. They even have to replace shock absorbers, and have acknowledged there is a shift but I can pay for the alignment. This is crap.

They are also supposedly trying to determine fault. Try all they want. My daughter was singing to herself into her phone video - and it happened to get both impacts and the immediate aftermath until we got the phone up from the ground and turned it off. It seems like they're trying to railroad me so they can hike my premiums - but videos don't lie. With multiple witnesses in the car, it seems they might want do the right thing.

I have been with Progressive for barely over a year now. My wife's van ended up with a cracked windshield so I called in a glass claim. Granted, I have always had full glass coverage with other insurance companies; it is a no brainer. Anyway, the call started very typically; a few questions asked and then the coverage review. The agent says, “Okay, you are all set. All you need to do is pay the $250 deductible." The what? The deductible? And so, the tail spin began. “Sir, you do not have full glass coverage”. I said, “I am certain I do because I would never ever buy car insurance without full glass.”

After a few disappointing calls back and forth, they told me they would have to pull the original phone conversation and review it. They said it would take a week to get the recording, review it and determine if I declined it during the sales process. Let me say, I am more than angry with these people. They have no regard for customer satisfaction and could care less about customer retention. After 1 week, I still did not hear back, so I called. I asked to talk with the claims manager about just getting the darn window replaced without the deductible (because I had to add it on to my policy after they told me I didn’t have it), and they said I had to wait until the call is reviewed.

Guess what, they called me 14 days after my first call, and they reviewed all 44 minutes of my very first phone conversation with the sales representative from a year ago. They said that the word “glass coverage" never came up. However, they admitted that I agreed to the $250 deductible (for liability, yes! Duh!). What if I went with the standard $500 deductible? I would have to pay $500 for a window? I do not understand how any sales representative would not ask. My recollection from the original call was that as long as I have the exact coverage for less money, I will sign. My old coverage included glass, just like the 20 years of coverage prior. I don’t know if this is a case of buyer beware or be smarter than the sales representative and make sure you tell them how to do their job to be sure you have all the coverage or not.

Needless to say, they continue to decline my claim even after I added the coverage on the same day that I learned that I do not have glass coverage because the breakage occurred prior to getting coverage, yada yada. I am now waiting for the claims manager to call me back, and I will make my last argument. I'm sure that I will get the runaround and be declined again. However, I have a pen in my hand and have already started to get prices from other insurers so that I can make the switch.

Here are the lessons I learned: (1) Do not assume that these people are intuitive enough to know what is right for you as the customer. They do not; (2) If they are not smart enough to realize that they will lose over $1,000 of sales income over making their own customers pay $250 for glass replacement, they are not deserving of my business; (3) This is a cut and dry glass replacement. What would've happened if something major happened? Can you imagine how difficult it would be to get them to pay?; (4) Don't fall prey to the barrage of ads they play to draw in new customers like I did. This is where they would rather blow their money. Maybe they should put that back into their customer’s hands in the form of a simple and courteous, windshield replacement!

There were additional amounts due because the prior company would not produce proof of items for Progressive. The bill came at the time my son was leaving for the military (boot camp). I decided to take the car off road. They cancelled the insurance days after the bill was due. Progressive deducted a $20 late fee from the amount of refund sent to us. I called and asked for a refund; they said no. I called them and my insurance broker called them. I'm completely disgusted and would not use Progressive, or refer them to anyone ever. My car was wrecked back in the end of October. Still nothing about getting my car fixed, but get your phone records. What for? What does that have to do with anything? I can't get the phone records and told them that many times. Now they are saying they will not approve the claim without them?! We have done everything that Progressive asked us to do and it was a long list of items. They are holding on to the phone records issue because that is the one thing we cannot provide them with. But I feel it is up to them to get them with the court order. It is not us that is requesting the records. It is them.

I talked to Progressive every day for almost 2 months straight trying to get this resolved because that is the only car I have and I have kids and work, so I really need my car. I told them almost a month ago about the issue with the phone records, so that leaves it in their court to figure out how to proceed with the claim. We provided them with names and phone numbers of 8 people that saw our car just a few days before the accident that they talked to telling them about the condition of my car, that it was not wrecked and now it was. Once we provided the information they requested, they would tell us we now have to get other items. They asked if my work had security cameras, the hours I worked, wanted to talk to my boss, etc. - just anything that can help to prolong the claim until they could find something that could give them an excuse to turn down the claim.

Mind you, they did not ask for the phone records until more than a month after the claim being filed. They were the items above and again, once they burned through all of that, they came to the one thing we could not get and ran with it. All of the items above they requested of me really should not have been asked of me because I was not even the one driving the car at the time of the accident, so really I had nothing to do with having to provide them with anything. They never talked to my husband until I put my foot down and said that everything they were asking they needed to ask him as he was the driver of the car.

Please look into this. Someone is not telling the truth at Progressive. We have no reason to lie about anything as we are the ones with everything to lose. They took our money and ran. That in my mind is stealing. We paid them to do a job and they are not doing it.

I was involved in a minor accident and the insured had Progressive auto coverage. So I was referred to Cooks Collision of San Ramon, CA. At first, it seemed as everything was going to be okay. After about 1 week without my car, I was notified that all the repairs had been completed and I could come and pick up my car. So I made arrangements to come pick up my car from Cooks Collision of San Ramon, CA. When I arrived around 5:45pm (PST), all seemed as it would be okay. I entered the repair shop, spoke to the lady that was gathering my papers and they brought my vehicle up front and parked it outside. During that time, I had finished what I needed to do inside the shop and was told that's it. Well, I did a walk around of my vehicle by myself, drove the car home, but as I left, the inside of my car was so moist that I could not see out, so I pulled into a local gas station, got gas and proceeded to wipe off the moisture inside the front window.

So the next morning, when I got into my car, there was more moisture (seems as if someone took a shower inside my car) so I wiped it down and proceeded off to work. When I arrived, I took the time to inspect the work during daylight and that's when I found out all the work they did was terrible. My front bumper had been reconditioned. The air vents that had damage had been placed back on my bumper and one was almost going to fall out. The bumper strip on the bumper was loose and didn’t adhere correctly. My hood was not aligned correctly and when I opened the hood of my car, I noticed more damage that was not even caught by the Progressive claims adjuster. Well, I immediately called them and voiced my concerns. I was told to bring it back in the second time and get another rental. This time, I told them all that I discovered wrong with it and found out that they ordered aftermarket parts (reason hood would not align) and asked them to fix it correctly with OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer). So they noted that and said it would be another week or so to complete the redo.

California law states that you can have your vehicle taken to a repair shop of your choice if you are ever involved in an accident (I hope you’re not). Please do not go with their recommendation. Progressive will find the cheapest way to fix the damages even to put back parts that have been reconditioned. Ask or tell them that you want OEM parts. One unhappy result. To this day, they continue to call to ask me if everything is okay and I’ve asked them to read my complaint.

I've asked several people to send me new insurance cards since I got my new car back in August of 2012 and still have not received them. I got into a small accident in June. They claimed it was an at fault accident on my end because I backed into a parked car, which mind you, was directly behind me in a blind spot and was parked in a non-parking zone. Progressive still tagged the entire thing onto my record and said it was my fault. They paid out $1,200 to this person, who was illegally parked behind me for a quarter-size dent that I could have gotten out myself. When he had the dent fixture appraised by my auto body person, they told him they'd do it for $500, so in turn he got to keep $600 all for himself.

Progressive never even sent a real person out to check the damage. They just took the other guy's word for it and paid him over a grand. So anyway, they tell me I won't have an increase in my premium due to the accident if I decided to stay with them. In fact, they even offered me a discount shortly after the incident occurred. I thought to myself, wow, what a good company. I finally have a good insurance company. That idea lasted all of 6 months because here we are 6 months later and they decided it would be okay to jump my premium and I went from paying $224 a month for one person, on one car to paying $317. The worst part, they never even sent me a notice that they would be doing it. I called and complained my head off to them. They aren't willing to do a thing for me and keep insisting they sent the notice of price change. I call total **!

I couldn't afford that amount due to my husband's recent job loss, so I didn't renew. (There were no changes in the policy other than the rate, no claims or traffic tickets.) I parked the vehicle until we could afford to pick up insurance with another company, which we did at a much lower rate. Now, I'm being billed almost $400.00 for a policy I didn't renew, on terms I didn't agree to and on a vehicle that wasn't driven. I've tried to speak to someone from Progressive about this, but they said there is nothing I can do and they will continue with collections. I fulfilled my 6 month agreement. How can they raise my rates and automatically renew my policy without any consent from me? This is absurd.

On January 2, 2013, I was at work, took my lunch and headed down to the parts store to get some new wiper blades for our winter (Minnesota). I heard a clink and a pop from the engine, and saw smoke in the cabin. I pulled over and saw a fire underneath the car. I put the fire out with a fire extinguisher I actually had to buy from the parts store. So I called, got the car towed to a Volvo dealership and awaited an assessment. They found out there is a hole at the bottom of the engine, which leaked oil onto the plastic splash guard, which is what caught on fire. On top of that, when the adjuster came out to look at the car, he asked me if I placed a heated pad under the car to warm the engine (what nerve) and deemed that the car is unrecoverable due to wear and tear. Really? 137K miles was wear and tear that put a hole in my engine?

Now I'm out of a car simply because I will not pay another $500 to put a new motor in a car that is worth $4,000 on Kelly Blue Book. In fact, the only thing they will cover is the stupid plastic guard. I must say I am out of this company and from reading all of the other complaints on here, it is easily understandable that Progressive is cheap just like their advertised quotes.

Progressive Insurance was fully responsible for an accident that totaled our Volvo, sending me and my two children to the emergency room, and subsequent physical therapy, which continues to this day. Two years after the accident, despite my locating their office and driving to them while still using a cane weeks after the accident (damage to my spine / discs), Progressive forced me to pay out of pocket for two years - offered no settlement at any time - while forcing me to produce all medical receipts in addition to the fact that I had every medical provider submit these directly to them. Progressive attempted to allow the Statue of Limitations (2 years in Virginia) to run out, thereby having no obligation to pay me a dime.

I had to file a Warrant in Debt to wrangle a settlement from them, which did produce a low-ball offer, and they would not offer more. In General District Court, the judge found it in favor of me, in an amount greater than Progressive’s settlement offer, but not covering my costs as Progressive filed several motions fraudulently blocking evidence from review. Appeal is even more expensive, and attorneys, let's not even get started. Now, Progressive Insurance is failing to even pay the settlement ordered by the Court, instead claiming that they have a legal obligation to turn this over to medical liens filed by the emergency room/hospital on the day of the accident and will only write the check to them.

Attorneys have been of no assistance. The Judicial system of little to no assistance. The statutes are written to protect the businesses. The statutes require us to pay for auto insurance. The statutes do not require the insurance companies to pay for our damages. Progressive Insurance is in Breach of Faith of their responsibility. The Insurance Board agrees with this and has accepted the complaint but can do nothing. Get a lawyer, day one. That is the way the lawyers have written the statutes, ensuring their own business. Progressive deserves all the vitriol and scorn and none of our money. There are ethical insurance companies, USAA for one. But the system is rigged against us and for these rapacious corporations.

After approximately 20 phone calls to the Progressive phone number on his insurance card, and nearly two months' time, I was able to get an adjuster to look at my automobile. He gave me his estimate on the spot, handed me a check, told me to go ahead and get it repaired. I asked him why I couldn't first go to the body shop, get the estimate and then we'd all decide what the amount was. He said "Progressive doesn't do it that way. Some companies do." He also told me that if it was more than the amount he'd given me, just to contact them and they'd make it right. That was a very discouraging statement, given all the trouble I'd had talking to them from the start of the incident.

So when I took it to the body shop, sure enough, their estimate was about $170 more than the check Progressive gave me. I was so upset at this point, I drove to our State Farm office and asked them if they'd help me with these people. They gave me the go ahead to get our vehicle repaired and said they'd handle it from here on out. All of this grief and aggravation for a repair that's going to be under $500!

A claim was submitted under her insurance policy and my car was towed to a collision center. I was also provided with a rental car and everything was fine. On 12/21/2012, I was contacted by my adjuster and was told that my car was deemed a total loss and I would receive a check for $5,445.41. After some time had passed, I had decided to purchase a new vehicle. This is where things started to get shady.

I called to replace the vehicle on my policy and was told they couldn't do it because I had to file a new FR-44 form. So now I would need to start a new policy. The only problem was that this new policy was $1,234.52 when I had just paid for 6 months coverage in full on 12/10/2012 - in the amount of $682.44. So just to switch a vehicle out on an existing policy, Progressive wants me to pay double? To me this doesn't sound right. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Weekend before Christmas: I went to visit my parents during Christmas this year. I believe it was on the rainy Sunday before the 25th. My mom told me after I woke up that my car (2004 Ford Focus) had been struck by someone. Basically, there is a huge scratch on the driver's side, trailing from bumper to bumper, and left my rear left tire flattened. The guy who hit my car (an "investigator"), who was apparently speeding in the rain, was insured under Progressive and left his info card on the car's windshield while it was raining (idiot move, guess he was not a very smart "investigator").

So we called up the Progressive guys, and we were told that they can provide me with a rental and cover all costs for it in the meantime. The car was scheduled to be towed to Balboa Auto Body shop for repairs, but they will not be available until December 31st. I was given a 2012 Ford (not really sure what model) car by Enterprise rental, and I hated how the car "performed" right from the get-go (but that's another story).

December 31st came, and the Balboa Auto Body guys finally towed the car to their shop. Yay, finally my car will be repaired. On January 2nd, I was at work and got a message from my mom who received this wonderful bit of news that Progressive has elected to refuse the repair and instead offered a settlement as the "estimated repair bills exceed the current worth of the car". Apparently, they have this "little blue handbook" that determines the net worth of a car by year/model. Tell you what, Progressive, take that handbook, spread a little Icy Hot on it, admire it for a bit, turn it sideways, and stick it square up your monkey **.

So the stipulations I was offered were to take the car back and they will offer "compensation" so I can try and fix the car myself (translation: do absolutely nothing and like it). And second, offer me a settlement based on their handbook (was not given the exact amount), but it is not guaranteed if I will get the car back (translation: see translation #1). Let me understand this for a second, Progressive. How exactly does a scratch/tire repair job cost more than $3,000.00? And now with the "settlement" (option 2) that I am offered, how do you propose I get a replacement car with the amount of money being offered when and if you decide to keep my car? Well, an assumption that I came up with is that Progressive practices the business principles of ** and **-o-nomics.

My 15-year-old daughter and I were in the McDonald's drive-thru. There was a tan-colored truck ahead of us and a full-sized black Expedition waiting behind us. Both my daughter and I were still wearing our seat belts. We're just chatting with each other when suddenly my red Hyundai Elantra jerked forward with some force. My car was in first gear at the time and my foot on the clutch. Had I not released the clutch so fast, I would've hit the vehicle in front of me. On impact, my daughter and I were tossed forward quite a bit. My daughter said she got a sharp pain at the base of her neck and then an instant migraine. I somehow managed to hurt my left shoulder. The girl never even got out of her car; I did. And after making sure everyone was okay, told her to have her info ready because I was reporting it. I called the local police just for them to inform me they can't do anything because the parking lot is private property.

We exchanged all info and I called my agent at Farmers. She walked me through the steps to file a written claim to Progressive (the other driver's company). In the meantime, my daughter is hurting bad enough so we took her to the ER. While waiting, I called Progressive to file a claim. I was quickly informed that the policy holder had already reported it to them. They gave me the claim number and told me I should hear from a local adjuster in 24-48 hours. Okay, so the doctor said my daughter has a cervical spine sprain. This whole incident happened on Dec. 20, 2012 at about 4pm. The next day, the adjuster calls. She was very, very rude and unprofessional and proceeded to inform me that I need to file this claim with my own insurance because there is a possible policy issue that needs address written by the holder. She said they can't get a hold of her and she won't return their calls which is hard for me to believe considering she called and reported the accident immediately after it happened, so why would she refuse to answer calls or return voicemails?

So she told me that they are going to deny the claim since they can't speak with her and told me she couldn't tell me why. My company says, "What's the problem? It's like this, either she has a policy or she doesn't and since they found her policy with the provided policy # and have both of us claim #s, one would believe she has a policy." The rude lady told my husband on Friday, Dec. 21, 2012 at about 10:13am on the phone that they would get back to us and here it is Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012 and no calls or letters from Progressive. My daughter has documented injuries with a hospital bill. I have undocumented injuries I haven't even seen because I can't afford any medical bills. Also, there is damage to my rear bumper and under it. My trunk is out of adjustment. There are multiple dents in the trunk and bumper and the paint is chipping.

Tomorrow, I am going to get auto body estimates. And first thing Monday morning, I am calling some attorneys and the Board of Insurance in my state. This is ridiculous. Their policy holder rear-ended me in the drive-thru of McDonald's after being fully stopped behind me for several minutes and they're telling me to file a claim with my insurance. No way. I am not the idiot that hit someone in a drive-thru. Why should I have to pay my deductible and cause my premiums to go up? I have a ticket/accident free record. I should not be punished for her stupidity and Progressive's rudeness. They can deal with the attorneys now.

We were insuring our autos through Progressive Insurance for about two months, at the agreed rate of less than $120 per month. We allowed Progressive to have access to our checking account (direct billing). On the third month, with only an email notice four days before the billing date, they took over $400 from our account - leaving us very little in the bank for our other bills. Of course, we worked with our bank to get our money back and immediately got another insurance company. Their excuse for trying to jack us up? Our 24-year-old son who lives an hour away from us; was married to a woman for two years and at the time of the attempted theft of our hard earned money, was divorced from her for the last two years. We still occasionally had a piece of her mail showing up at our house.

Now comes the scary part. Somehow, Progressive knows that we get an occasional scrap of her junk mail at our address and assumes that my son's ex-wife lives with us and is driving our cars. Because they don't know her age, they list her as being 16 years old! I filed a complaint with the Arkansas Insurance Commissioner and have not heard anything from them except that they are investigating the matter. About a month later, I got a letter from some bought and paid for, generically named Credit Collection Service that said we owed them $172 for one week's coverage at less than $120 per month. I have math skills and the most I figure I would have owed Progressive is about $30, which they now cannot collect due to the fact that they sold the debt to a third party instead of being reasonable.

So we (my wife, brother-in-law and I) migrated from Arizona to Oregon. Like many Americans, we're migrating in hopes of better opportunities (e.g. work) and for six months, things were very rough in Oregon (edge of homelessness rough). We could not afford the Oregon rate (and a new pay-up front fee) for AAA, so we looked around for a switch. Progressive offered the best rate it seemed, 2 vehicles (just liability), no large upfront registration fee and just a low monthly payment of under $60.00. Awesome! Nope!

First, our bank would not allow Progressive to directly take money out of our account. We tried everything we could to make that work but it just would not allow payment. There are two local Progressive offices but they are not related in anyway to the online Progressive which is out of Florida. So, we needed a bill sent to us but that jacked the monthly payment. Even in this, they could not get the bills to us on time. Then we got charged for late fees and constantly threatened with termination. Now we are getting on our feet and the monthly payment has somehow gone up to $75.00+ and then there is a $95.00 renewal fee every 6 months, it turned out! What? Why was this not in the quote?

We needed to get through this month, so we paid the extra $95.00 on top of the $75.00 but next month, with all our bills caught up at last, we are switching to another insurance company. Do not use Progressive! It is a franchise operation and bills slide upward, no matter how well you drive and then there are hidden (not discussed at the time of purchase) costs. Moreover, as the many complaints listed on this sight indicated, they do not have your back when you do get into an accident.

Progressive Insurance has to be the worst insurance company I've ever dealt with in all my years of driving. In the year I was with them, they tried all sorts of ways to take more money from me. A few months ago, a letter was sent to me that they found out that I have an underage driver in my household and so they were going to add him to my policy for an extra $800 a year. The only problem, I only have a 6-year-old daughter and she doesn't drive yet. When I contacted Progressive, I had to wait about 30 minutes before someone picked up. I told them about the letter I received, and they said that they found out I had an underage driver in my household named Richard **. I told them I don't know a Richard ** and that I have a 6-year-old daughter.

Eventually, the agent admitted that it was a mistake, but she couldn't fix the issue; however, she would transfer me to another agent. So I was transferred to the next agent and again I waited about 15 minutes for the new agent to pick up, only to be told that she too couldn't help me as it would have to be in a different department. So again the agent transferred me to the different department. I again waited for about 10 minutes for someone to pick up, only to be told that she too couldn’t fix my issue because another department deals with it. In total I was passed around 7 times, only to be told they couldn't help me. I spent about 2 hours department dancing until I got fed up. As soon as I got off the phone, I sent a nasty email to customer service. About 2 weeks later, I got an email back telling me they fixed the issue. If this experience wasn't bad enough, upon renewal of my premium, they tried to increase my premium by 50% because of a minor traffic violation.

I told them that an increase was warranted, but a 50% increase was unreasonable. They told me the new premium is non-negotiable. They also cited the increase to a claim I submitted to them when my car was damaged - a claim that was never paid out. It has been 5 months and they still have to fix my car. The bottom line is when you need them to do their jobs like pay out a claim, they are very slow to act and inefficient; however, when they want to charge you more money, they are super efficient. Stay away from them.

I paid this transport company to move my 1973 VW Bus that I had just gotten inspected and passed for state registration. The transporter gave me no paperwork or filled any out regarding the condition of the vehicle before transport. He promised to call on delivery. He informed me, after I contacted him when he was 2 days late, that he had 3 blowouts on the drive and it was an expensive and not profitable trip. He was an hour away in Limon at 6pm getting replacement tires. He chose to drop my bus off at midnight without a call to avoid confrontation about a damaged front end that has destroyed the windshield and metal frame around it. He also left a rock from a neighbor’s yard next to the damage to make it appear to have happened by vandals, but the damage is clearly not from the round rock nor could it have been done by a person because of the extent of damage. Besides that, it was discovered within 30 minutes of being dropped.

Although I have proof that the windshield was intact (as it wouldn’t have passed inspection the prior week), witnesses, and mechanics receipts, I have been told that if the policyholder doesn't cooperate, they don't have to proceed with the claim. So the bus that was ready for my 20-year-old daughter and worth more than $5,000 before it left Kansas City is now undrivable and needs $5,000 worth of work. The laws also protect the insurance company from having to reimburse me for lawyer fees should I prove in a court that my claim is legitimate unless I sue them for it separately under a consumer law with a jury. The whole process could take years, and there is no consequence to the transporter. Progressive took pictures and claimed the damage shouldn't exceed the policyholder’s deductible of $1,000 even though their pictures showed metal destroyed around the windshield and the photographer mentioned the triangular damage on new tires to be from tie downs. The Colorado insurance commissioner is trying to motivate Progressive but tells me they don't have to pursue with uncooperative policyholder regardless of my evidence.

On 11/21/2011, my 13-year old daughter and I were rear ended by a Progressive insured driver while waiting at a red light. When the Progressive insured driver learned I called the police and requested assistance, she left the scene. A police investigation revealed the driver has prior license suspension(s) for DUI and after reviewing her odd behavior on the 911 recording, was suspected of being drunk and fled the scene for fear of being arrested for DUI again. I pressed charges. Progressive never disputed liability, but has not been cooperative. Progressive claims adjusters and claims representatives are disrespectful, unprofessional and unethical. Claims adjusters agreed to fix only the cosmetic damages, but have refused to fix other known/reported accident related damages within close proximity to the point of impact.

I'm extremely frustrated and perturbed with the flippant attitude and responses to my concerns, but realizing my attempts to reason directly with Progressive were unfruitful. I filed a written complaint with the Insurance Commissioner. My complaint was detailed, but precise and to the point. It was full of supporting documentation providing conclusive proof that Progressive has not been operating within the laws governing insurance companies. For example, it contained vehicle service records proving the vehicle was maintenance/serviced regularly and had no known mechanical problems. The information proved we are responsible owners that immediately address vehicle needs such as expensive new Michelin tires, brake pads, new factory windshield wipers, etc. Pictures of the prior/fixed damages, pictures of current damages. Letter from Geico (my insurance company) stating my damage claims are caused from the accident.

I explained that our car had just turned 4 years old, we are the original owners and it had less than 50,000 miles at the time of the accident. I also included letters from Progressive that were directly addressed to my 13-year old daughter. By law, mail of that nature cannot be mailed directly to a minor child, but must be sent to the attention of the parents/guardians. I'm not sure how they obtained her cell phone number (as we never disclose the number) but Progressive was bold enough to call her during school. Contacting my 13-year old daughter directly is illegal and unethical. To be certain the complaint was received, I mailed it certified mail/return receipt.

My suggestion to all others in similar situation is not to waste time trying to reason with the unreasonable, as it's unfruitful. Print a written complaint directly from the Department of Insurance website, gather supporting documentation and mail it certified mail/return receipt to the Insurance Commissioner. I guarantee you will receive a reply. You can also contact elected officials by writing them a letter requesting assistance as they can apply pressure to the Insurance Commissioner to resolve the issues. As the daughter of a newspaper man, bad publicity can produce results if you can get a news station to view your story and make sure to post it to YouTube and send the insurance company a copy as a courtesy. The more people that file complaints, the easier it is for the state to take action against Progressive Insurance.

Please remember this: We cannot control other people, we can only control ourselves and how we respond. So choose not to allow Progressive to frustrate you and be productive by following my suggestions. Then if your situation requires you to retain an attorney, you can prove you exhausted every avenue prior to involving the courts. Don't be intimidated and don't give up, but use your rights to your benefit.

I called Progressive as I was downsizing to a smaller car and was trying to get the best price, since they advertise constantly how competitive their rates are. When the agent stated the amount, I had to have her repeat it three times, as I didn't think I was hearing her correctly. They wanted $9,000 a year. (No, not $900, $9,000.) I have had two serious car accidents in the last three years, neither being my fault. But because of the accidents, they were going to charge an outrageous fee. I am 42 years old, single, do not drive far distances and have never had a ticket or accident that was my fault. I'm still flabbergasted over that quote.

My insurance agent provided me with auto insurance computations, which indicated Progressive was the lowest priced with the most coverage. She mentioned the company had a program called Snap Shot, which involved hooking a small data receiver to your vehicle to provide information about your "braking habits". If the data Progressive receives indicates good driving habits, credit is applied to your account. I have two vehicles insured - one is a truck, which is only used occasionally. I continuously received emails from Progressive telling me they weren't receiving data from the truck even though I drove it at least once a month.

The van I use regularly received 5 "hard brakes" in one day; when I was slowing for a traffic light, pulling into a parking space & slowing for a turn! I complained to Progressive & was rudely told that was how the program worked. Yesterday the Snap Shot beeped 3 separate times while I was driving on the highway! Today I called & told them I was sending their piece of ** back! It's obvious to me that their tech team needs to do some more work on this product.

When I applied for Progressive, we gave them all of our information - SS numbers and driver's license numbers. They came back with a reasonable rate so we took it. A month after that, they said they had to raise our rates because of a ticket they've "just found". I told them we had a contract. They said it did not matter, they had to raise my rates. So, I fired them and went with Farmers that honored the old Progressive rate.

In my experience, I have needed them and they kept saying it takes half an hour, but it actually took 3 hours for them to come and help me and the person that came threatened me. About the time of the Aurora theater shootings, Progressive aired a commercial showing Flo and other agents in a "shoot-out" scenario with their price-guns. I was appalled by the ad, but I felt somewhat gratified when the ad did not show again. "Wow!" I thought, "Someone at the corporate level has intelligence and sensitivity!” This past week, I have again seen the "let's point our guns at each other and threaten to shoot" ad a couple of times. I just viewed it EST at about 1PM. It is a distasteful ad. It makes guns to appear as toys. It makes gunplay look like fun. Folks, guns are not toys and your portrayal is not funny. Go back to whoever pulled the ad after the real-life shootings and have them talk to the insensitive dolt(s) who approved its current re-issue. It does not send a positive message to anyone about anything. I sincerely hope someone reads this, passes the thoughts along, and does something positive.

Progressive is not in the interest of the consumers but their own. Adjustors are a joke at Progressive, due to a recent accident that involved an insured driver by Progressive. It’s been over 3 weeks and still not resolved. I have called and asked for a Regional Manager for the Austin, Texas area, no call backs. They are certainly the worst auto insurance company out there. If you have to deal with them, hire an attorney immediately and make sure you have a police report because they will certainly try to get out of paying any claim. They are a sorry excuse for such a huge insurance company. I am telling everyone who has Progressive Insurance to change now while they have a chance. They are certainly crooks and will not pay out even when it was their insured's fault even with the police report. Pia ** and Melissa ** are certainly not trained well enough as adjustors. They had real nerves to tell me that I could only be in rental for 1 week.

Even though they say my car is a total loss, my auto damages exceeded what they are willing to pay. So I am $** out of luck. I still have my car at the auto body shop which they told me where to take it to and I am the one paying storage fees which is downright ** up, until at which time they are able to come up with a below market value for my paid for BMW. Pretty much this is the history of how they operate. I am glad that I am not with Progressive but I did feel obligated to notify their insured that he really needs to change insurance because his rates will now sky-rocket because of this incident.

I’m still waiting to be paid for the damages to my BMW, which of course has exceeded damages of over $6,800.00 and they only want to give me only $3,400.00 for it. What a freaking joke this is. I cannot believe the nerve of them. I am certainly filing a complaint to Texas Dept. of Insurance; probably won't do anything about it. I dislike dishonest insurance companies especially Progressive.

The police towed my car for driving with no insurance, which caused me towing fees, not to mention not having a car until the DMV had the correct information. When I spoke with Progressive, all they could say was "I'm so sorry." Now, after the hurricane, the frustration is through the roof. I am waiting for my car to be towed. In February 2011, my bathroom had major water damage due to a leak behind the tub. It seems to have been there since the house was built in 2011. It was detected when a small wall along the tub that was tiled popped its seam. Suspecting water damage, but nothing else visible, I called a plumber who drilled a hole in the wall, stuck a camera down the hole and found standing water and a ton of black mold. Progressive/Homesite was called and they sent an independent adjuster who met with my plumber.

Initially, the damage was thought to be limited to behind the tub. However, as the tub was torn out and the wall between the tub and shower stall was removed, it was obvious the damage was much more extensive. Long story short, they refused to pay the remainder of the claim, alleging that the tub was the source of the leak. It was not; even their own inspector's notes discuss the tear out of the tub and reuse of the old tub. They have used every excuse in the book not to pay a legitimate claim. They refused to return phone calls or answer emails.

I have never dealt with such a dishonest group of people and I advise everyone to stay away from Progressive/Homesite. Oh, and their rates went up for renewal? Doubled. Yet, I found a better insurance policy through another company for less than the initial rate I was paying Progressive/Homesite. Go elsewhere. This company only wants your money. We joined Progressive when we moved to Lake Murray, SC since we had excellent service from them when we had damage to our boat from hurricane Charlie in Florida. Our other insurances are with Geico and I regret that we did not get our boat insurance with Geico. We went boating about two weeks ago and docked our boat at our private lake dock. There were no problems whatsoever with our boat. A storm came onto Lake Murray and we had terrible angry waters. We could not even walk on our floating dock. The boat was slamming into the dock and slamming the water for several days. We just moved here so we had no idea how violent the lake could become.

When the storm calmed, my husband went to the boat and found that the metal that attaches the starter to the motor had sheared off from the extreme impact of the storm. This is an older Robalo boat with a 175 Johnson motor and double thick fiber glass hull. The hull was not damaged, but the extreme impact of the seas sheared the starter off the motor. We immediately filed a claim with Progressive feeling confident they would take care of it. We are old customers but have just returned to the company. They sent out an adjuster who refused our claim saying he had never seen anything like this before and we would have to prove that that is what happened. We sent him to Southern Inboard in Ballentine, SC who had just worked on our boat so they could testify that our boat was in good running condition and that nothing was wrong with the motor.

Now they say we should get a survey, but would still not guarantee, even with a ruling in our favor they would allow our claim. We have spoken to a mechanic who says "unless the motor froze up," which it is not after being checked, it is very likely this is an impact fracture. We basically are stuck with no recourse. They say because they have never seen this before, it is our obligation to prove it beyond a shadow of doubt. We have invited them to call our neighbors to be assured the boat was well maintained and in good running condition, but they refuse to move on it. Do not buy your insurance from this unscrupulous company. We are reaching out to someone to help us in getting the damage repaired from the storm to our boat.

I think that this company is being run by a bunch of accountants that look at statistics and totally over look at the customers that they serve. I am appalled and I am here to tell you not to do business with a company that treats you as a number.

You have a choice and I suggest to the Progressive customers to call any other company; they will see a big difference in the annual premium. I called All State and got a premium that is $400 per six months cheaper than what they were going to charge me. Besides, I thought the customer service people were evasive with their answers and arrogant. I will never do business with them again. Their commercials are and out, and out lie.

Therefore, I was arrested and I am now facing criminal charges for driving on a suspended license. Progressive is the worst company to ever have. As far as I'm concerned, they can blow me.

I had been insured by Progressive for about 10 years. Well, when my renewal bill came this time, I went into shock. It was about double the last one - $1,500 for 6 months! Their explanation was as follows: (1) You have fewer than two open, satisfactory loans and accounts; (2) You have no auto loans or leases reported open for the last 10 years; (3) You have no open loans or accounts; (4) The average open date of all your reported loans and accounts was less than 20 years ago (Note, this one does not make any sense in view of items 1, 2, and 3; they may mean more than 20 years ago.). And they also say, “Your payment terms are not our most favorable.”

I really do not care about their payment terms. I always paid in full upon receipt of the bill. I'm retired. I have no need to buy anything on credit. I seldom ever did. I saved and then made the purchase. I did write to Progressive. They offered no explanation as to exactly how my being wise with my money, and therefore debt-free, affected my risk assessment. I did write to my State Representative and to the Insurance Commissioner. The Insurance Commissioner tells me that they have acted "within the law". Really? It does seem that the framers of the law were a bit naive. I surely expected the company's policy makers to make use of their brains when they reviewed their renewal accounts.

My daughter and I were rear-ended three years ago. We were stopped to turn when a man texting rear-ended us, pushed us into oncoming traffic then struck head on. I was the only person in the 3-car accident that was insured and of course, to my bad luck, I have Progressive. I have uninsured/underinsured. It has been 3 years and our medical bills still have not been paid. I had fractured the ribs of my 15-year-old who had very serious whiplash and her knees were smashed. My car was totaled in the accident. When Progressive paid the replacement of my car (wow), they replaced my car that did not have a dent. Nothing’s wrong with it.

In fact, it had brand new tires with a car that was hit by a very large deer. I also had rental insurance which I had the car for two days. They then told me, "Oh by the way, it may say you can rent for 30 days but we only pay for three. You pay the rest." So I'm not getting the price for my car but a good $2,500 less and then they only pay for three days not 30 days. I had to quickly find a car with fractured ribs. I have finally hired attorneys to go after them. This is ridiculous. We pay for insurance for what reason? For Progressive not to stand behind their word. I really think that they need to be thoroughly investigated as they are crooks in my opinion.

Hassle galore: My 24-year-old daughter was hit by a woman in the Speedway parking lot on August 12. The driver was not even looking where she was going and ran into my daughter's car, which was stopped with her SUV putting an actual hole in her door. When my daughter wanted to call the police, the other driver said it was private property and they would not respond. (We are from Michigan, and the accident occurred in Ohio. So my daughter was unsure of whether the police would come and yes, they do respond to accidents on private property in Ohio.)

On Monday, when contacting Progressive, the agent was not only rude to my daughter but to my self as well. Apparently, the other driver had another version of what happened and they were going with her story. Never mind that when my daughter did file a police report, they ruled that the other driver was at fault and it is on surveillance camera to prove it.

The following week, my daughter left for medical school and we were going to store her car while she was gone. We can't do this until it is fixed. And Progressive is dragging their feet, costing my daughter money when she was innocent in this incident. We have done everything asked of us by Progressive, such as having them inspect her car to determine angle of impact, for which she had to drive 30 minutes away when she was busy trying to get ready to leave for school. Now it's time for either Progressive to pay up, or my attorney will be contacting them very soon. A month is too long to have this resolved.

So I had called the airport and they said they are open 24 hours and they still didn't give me one, so I was left stranded on the freeway; mind you that I was out of town. I had to flag someone down to give me a lift.

My claim person, which is Mindy, was rude. She hung up on me and wouldn't let me speak to her supervisor. She was supposed to tow my car back to Toledo on the 4th and never did so. I had to call where my car was located and set up a tow person to tow it back. They never served me, I was in their job; it’s more read up on Progress, they are a joke. I've been a loyal Progressive auto insurance for 5 or 6 years without any accidents. Last March, I married and called Progressive about adding her to my policy. The quote was higher than her current policy so we decided not to add her. Last month, I noticed that my bill from Progressive was about four times what I normally pay. I called to inquire about the change. Apparently, my wife (who had insurance with another company) had been added to my policy without my approval and the amount was the prorate for the last few months. After being rudely treated, I was told that there was no way to get that money back and that we had received two letters (which we did not) for me to sign to prevent her from being added to my policy. However, the idiocracy didn't end there. Apparently, the marriage discount wasn't added into sum.

How can a company just add people without approval to any insurance policy? The stupidity and rudeness that my wife and I have endured through this mess is really shameful. Still, the last laugh is with me. In five months, Progressive would have made more money than this off me. This goes to show you why we need big business more regulated than ever.

Here is a case where they have a crime, the perpetrator's name and address, yet they want their client to belly up. Unbelievable, I had recommended not going with an impersonal online company because of this very reason. They should be shut down. I contacted both Brian, the online rep, and his boss, Kelly, and was told, "Tough." So now, you know the cost of saving 40 bucks a year in premium, $250 deductible which you pay whether it's your fault or not. Even if a crime (hit and run) is committed, they do not care. You still pay. Save yourself this aggravation and deal with a local rep that will go to bat for you and also supports your community. So I called the glass side to receive a discounted windshield and they told me they had covered it and to talk to my original agent who also told me it had in fact been covered. They told me it would only take 3 days to fix and it took a week.

Upon picking up my vehicle, the windshield was still broken and the shop I took it to had broken my Compass/Temp Display. They said they had nothing to do with that and would not cover it. I tried to call Progressive back and my agent and they would not respond. I rated a survey I took poorly and requested they call me back. I received a call from the manager "Mike" who left me a very rude voice mail saying "Hey, call me back. It’s Mike at Progressive." And when I tried, I got an automated voice thing that said they tried to reach me but no other options. This is the worst company I have dealt with. Progressive Insurance is the worst insurance company. I am most thoroughly dissatisfied with Progressive's level of service and pay out in handling my insurance claim for damage to my property during a storm. First of all, it took six weeks for them to decide how much my claim was worth. One of my windows got broken and the frame was damaged. I pointed out to them that their service took so long that I could have sustained additional damage to my window because it had rained in this time. I was told that was why they advised customers to cover up windows so as not to get additional damage. The storm had blown some of the fascia from my roof, and I was told they had assessed this damage at $88. There was damage to the siding and my hardwood floor.

They assessed my total claim damage at $3,200 minus depreciation of $1,200 minus $1,000 deductible. Oh, and I could get the $1,200 if I provided receipts of $3,200. I told them this was the biggest piece of crock I had encountered in submitting a claim and had never heard of this. Whenever I see those cute commercials I will turn off my TV. I will be changing insurance companies as soon as possible. I absolutely hate, hate, hate this company.

Nightmare getting through their process with my claim – I had a pipe leak between my kitchen and basement which resulted in flooding my basement and a portion of my kitchen – down the wall (the pipe took kitchen sink water and dishwasher water). I called Progressive and they had to send an adjuster up from Florida (I am in NY) which took two days. I had mold, etc. and have three young children. The adjuster said the basement carpet would be fine; meanwhile, ServePro said it had to be removed along with paneling, vinyl tile flooring in the basement, etc. In the kitchen, the large base cabinet, sink, and dishwasher had to be removed; and since they are hardwood cabinets (older), they came apart in pieces along with the sink and counter top that went across my dishwasher. ServePro said the subfloor has to be replaced and the vinyl flooring as well. Two cabinets are gone; sink and flooring has to be replaced; 24x24 Berber carpet in basement, etc.

Six weeks later, Progressive said they would pay me $5,000; and if I did not accept, the next step would be for me to get quotes from contractors; and then, they will negotiate with those contractors. Meanwhile, every contractor I've had in my house is disgusted with the quote Progressive gave me. Berber carpet replacement at $2.99/sq. ft. – you can't find Berber carpet at Home Depot for less than $5.00/sq. ft. I had left State Farm when I had a leak around my chimney into my daughter’s bedroom, and they were there the next day and cut me a check for $5K. On the other hand, Progressive wants to only pay us $5K; and we have five times the amount of damage... at least. Here's another catch: Progressive deducts money for depreciation, but do they add for inflation? No way. As soon as I'm done with this nightmare, I'm switching back to State Farm or Travelers. I heard they are both great. Don't get caught up in those cute commercials. I am seriously considering contacting a private adjuster and/or attorney. I have zero time in my life to get multiple quotes from contractors. Progressive is making my life miserable.

About 6 months ago, I had a small fender bender where I did $3,800 damage to the other car. The damage on my car was almost unnoticeable, so I didn't file a claim for myself. They said my rates would not go up because of this accident. A few days ago, I got a notice to renew my policy and the rates had jumped from $156 a month to $250. When I called and asked why that was, they said I would have to pay the extra amount until the damages they had paid out were paid for.

Why bother to have insurance if I'm going to have to pay for the damages on top of my insurance premiums? I thought insurance was just that insurance against paying big bills when you have an accident. Apparently, you still have to pay one way or another. I have paid probably over $20,000 in the years I've had insurance with them, which goes into their pocket and the insured pays for their own damages anyway. They suck!

A policy can be started online for many insurance policies as many commercials advertise. In January, I moved between different states and purchased a new car. My former insurance provider only covered regional areas, and didn't cover the state I just moved to. I went online, and got a Progressive quote. It was the lowest, and so I opted to purchase the policy. I paid the six month premium online as well. I selected to have a paperless billing, that discounted it a little more. (Of course, without paper bills, a person has to be more vigilant about looking online at their account changes). Before I knew it, my original "quote" had risen by over $100 and I was going to be billed via e-mail for it at a later time.

When I called to inquire, I was told about "adjustments" based on where I live (they knew that before I was given a quote, it was part of the online form), driving record (20 years on previous policy without an accident and no tickets), and "other demographics." Uh, yeah. Suddenly, they were the most expensive. I canceled that one real quick, and found a policy that was one half. Yes, one half the cost from a little reptile company (that I didn't check the price with initially in the internet group I researched) and a lower deductible! I am thrilled and upon later finding out where millions of Progressive's dollars are donated, I would have canned the policy at that point regardless of cost anyhow. Their commercials about low cost are a joke, and from reading claim problem comments here, it seems like I dodged a bullet. Thank God.

I had been with Progressive for 15 years (autos, boat and umbrella policy). I submitted a claim in June 2012 for $2,900 because one of my boat motors had been vandalized and I needed two heads replaced. They declined the claim even though the marina mechanics attributed the motor failure to the foreign particles in the engine. My Crusader 350 engine only had 1,080 hours on it and I was told it was normal "wear and tear" by the Progressive investigators, who are obviously struggling to justify their existence within the company. My port engine has the same hours and is fine (it did not have the same foreign object diet as the starboard). So in Progressive's infinite stupidity, they denied my $2,900 claim.

It gets better. I upped my deductible to $1,000 last fall, so that means Progressive would have only had a $1,900 payout. In addition, these "idiot" investigators interviewed two marina service managers and their mechanics, sent the bad engine heads for forensic analysis and came to my home on the river to look at the boat. This foolishness most likely evaporated the $1,900 right there! I was paying Progressive approximately $1,800/year for auto, boat and umbrella and now I am paying them zero because I moved everything into another company called Encompass. Encompass is charging me $300/year less than Progressive with all coverages being equal.

I also sent two emails (with my claim number) to Progressive thinking that the people running the show might want to take a look at what was causing a 15-year customer to go elsewhere. One was to the CEO (glenn_renwick@progressive.com) and the other was to the head of claims **. I received absolutely no response from either person. Kind of says it all don't you think? In retrospect, I can't fault either one. I was over at my friend's place when someone hit my driver side door and there was this huge dent. It was one week before this accident that I added my wife to the insurance plan and she was new to the US so that reduced my deductible to $100 and as soon as I filed my claim, they started treating me like a criminal. I did not know who hit my car so my claim was to be paid by Progressive. Initially, I just saw the dent alone but did not see the other damages. Then I noticed that my passenger side door mirror had hit a tree in this impact and was broken.

Now when I said this to Progressive, the agent who was always bossy and rude said I had to file a new claim for this and I need to pay another $100 as deductible. I said, "Why should I do that since it was the same incident?" Guess what? She said that I should have told this initially. Then I asked, "How would I know what got else got damaged inside the car?" Then I had to take my car to this Progressive office where they analyzed the impact. I said to the agent the door keyless lock does not work now after the accident and she said that she has noted it down and it will be taken care and I trusted them. When I got my estimate, it was not even listed and she said, "Take it to the body shop and let them call us." I agreed and got my doors and side mirror fixed after paying $200 (I should have paid $100 only). When I got my car, my keyless entry does not work and the body shop said I need to take it to the Infiniti dealer to fix this.

I took my car back to the Progressive center and asked them if they will cover it, they said, "Yes, we will just ask the dealer to call us." I took my car to Infiniti and I was charged $110 for analysis and he said that my actuator was dead and it would cost $450 to fix it. The dealer said that it could have been damaged by the accident or wear and tear, so there was no way of telling this. I called Progressive and this ** agent picked up the call and put me on hold for 25 minutes after telling me she will find someone else. She picked up the phone after 25 minutes (I am not hyping this but I was on hold for 25 minutes with my ear heated up) and said she would speak to the dealer. As said earlier, he explained the same. She told me that Insurance would not pay for it since it is not decisive because of the accident. I said, "It was working before the accident and it is not working now." She started shouting at me like a stray dog.

I said, "Listen, ma'am, I do not like to argue I said it was working fine before the accident; now it is not. Will you cover it or not?" and she just giggled mockingly and said, "A manager will call," and hung up the phone. The manager called after an hour. I have an automobile business, so three vehicles were insured by Progressive plus my ex-wife’s van. The dilemma started with Progressive when I asked three times to remove my ex-wife from the policy. All my contact was through office calls Southside in Gloucester, VA. Every time I called, I got the runaround. Finally, she said she removed her name off the policy. However, I still have to pay for an extra driver on the same policy which again my ex-wife, so no change has been done. So I called again and again, the same lady kept answering the phone and giving me the runaround. Finally, she said, “If you want to take your wife's name off the policy, you need to provide documents to prove that she no longer lives in your house.” So I said my ex is in Africa and there’s no way for me to get a hold of her (which can be proven) and also, she has a separate policy bought through the same office.

So what am I supposed to do? Sorry nothing we can do (she said), I will send you some important documents, fill the highlighted lines and attach proof that she doesn't live with you. So I called and I canceled more than 5 times and I kept getting bills in the mail from Southside and Progressive. I paid with credit card but I'm still getting billed. I also called Progressive multiple times; they have been recording every call. Finally, they resolved it and they sent me a refund check by the amount I overcharged after the cancellation. Ironically, they turned me in to a bill collection agency for the same amount that I received as a refund.

I called again today, 7/31/2012, somebody answered she could not find anything about bill collection. So she had to transfer me to the commercial department, and that's what he said, oh the check we sent you was for the auto insurance policy but the amount you still owe, that's for the commercial policy. So it’s double talk or it’s misleading, or it’s dishonesty. If I regret anything, it will be dealing with Progressive for all these years. If I'm very sure about something, it will be that I’ll never ever deal with Progressive again. I am very dissatisfied consumer.

I've been paying $69 per month (with very minimal coverage) for the past year. I moved recently to a different state, and I called to get a policy written for the new state (Florida). I was told that I would now be paying $250 per month! I was given no explanation for the huge increase, other than “That is Florida for ya." There was no attempt to try to save me money or offer any other explanation than the fact that I moved to a different state.

My policy was originally written in Florida. I had two cars on it with full coverage insurance and only paid $189/month. This was only about 6 years ago. Fast forward 6 years later, two paid for cars, no tickets, and no accidents; but I'm expected to pay $250 per month when I was just paying $69. This sounds really fishy, and if this happens/happened to you, don't be surprised when you call up to cancel that no one cares or tries to "save a customer." My recommendation if this sounds like you, is to switch! Don't be afraid. I found a better policy (with the same coverage) from another company.
