Progressive auto coverage

Progressive offers basic auto coverage options, which include bodily injury liability, property damage liability, medical payments, comprehensive, collision and uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage. It also has some add-on coverage options, such as:

  • Roadside assistance: Pays for emergency services like towing or help with a breakdown or flat tire.
  • Custom parts and equipment protection: If your car has special features like custom wheels, this policy protects them.
  • Rental reimbursement: Covers the cost of a rental car while your vehicle is being replaced or repaired due to a covered accident.
  • Deductible savings bank: Can help save money during each policy period you don’t make a claim.
  • Ride-share: Protects ride-share drivers. It covers your car even when your commercial policy gaps.

Progressive also offers commercial and classic car coverage, as well as insurance for travel in Mexico.

Progressive auto insurance costs

Progressive rates are determined by coverage type, location and the driver’s age and driving record. An average Progressive policy for someone with a good driving record is about $192 per month, but it could cost as little as $47 monthly. I got Progressive insurance after having it. For a few months, I got a new car. They were charging me over $350 a month on a 2018 Kia Optima. I switched insurance companies, and they are saying, I owe them $25 they sent me to collections. I switched companies about 7 days before they would take the money out of my bank. Now they are being petty. This is not a good company. They are not part of the Better Business Bureau for a reason. Because they are a bad company. Stay away from this company at all cost. Even if it does cost you a little bit more, it's worth it. To not work with progressive insurance, but chances are you will find every other company is cheaper than them.

State Farm gave me insurance for a $150 less than they were a month but this company wants to charge me $25 for some hidden fee. That I was told all I had to do was say yes, on the phone, and that's all they needed to charge me. If that's not a scam, I don't know what is. Be careful what you say. If they ask you a question and you say yes, that means they can charge you money.

Liked the price but then realized it was tied to its "Snapshot" App that monitors your driving via the iPhone. After 2 months, they're telling me I am on threshold of RATE INCREASE because of HARD BREAKING which is TOTAL BS!!! In this part of NJ, 90% of my driving is highway and when being constantly CUTOFF, I have to break hard of course (by their definition of 7mph in a second)...or with so many poor drivers making dangerous, unexpected moves, one has to drive/brake accordingly. I have had NO claims or accidents in my total 56 yrs of driving. And, with this nice car, I COAST as much as I can rather than breaking hard. I am cancelling ASAP.

Please don't make the same mistake I did, by using Progressive as your carrier. If you have to file a claim, they will gaslight, drag things out, not return phone calls, not keep you informed and then give you a lowball appraisal if your vehicle is totaled. I had to hire my own appraiser just to try to get something that resembled a fair market price for my car and still come out $2,000 below market value.

I was involved in an accident where I was 100% at fault. Both the other driver (the victim) and I happen to be Progressive policyholders. Progressive's handling of this claim has been an absolute nightmare of "Bad Faith" and utter negligence. For months, Progressive ignored the victim's fair diminished value claim. I only found out about the issue when the victim directly sent me a "Final Demand Letter". I immediately alerted Progressive, but received nothing but canned, template responses. I then gave Progressive a strict deadline and stated I would report them to the California Department of Insurance (CDI) if they failed to act. They completely ignored my warning.

After I officially filed a complaint with the CDI, Progressive provided a purely superficial and deceptive response to the state agency, claiming: "The victim is just making unreasonable demands, so we won't pay. Contact us again if you actually get sued." As a direct result of their stubborn refusal to settle, the victim formally sued me, and court papers were served at my home. When I forwarded the lawsuit to Progressive as instructed, I explicitly demanded that all future communication be handled strictly via email for proper record-keeping, stating that I would not engage in unrecorded phone calls.

Despite my clear directive, their consumer relations department completely ignored my request and passed the buck. They emailed me the name of a new handler with ONLY a telephone number, deliberately hiding their email address to force me into unrecorded verbal conversations to avoid written accountability. Progressive completely failed their fiduciary duty to protect me, forcing a lawsuit between two of their own loyal customers, even after a state regulatory intervention. This company is deeply unprofessional, deceptive, and untrustworthy. Avoid them at all costs.

Possibly the worst, most unprofessional claims department of life. Took months (6) to recieve proper reimbursement and payment for an Auto claim. Now the really bad part.... Don't ever expect to receive ANY reimbursement for theft or damages to your home as the result of one. We were left holding the bag and paid out of pocket to fix the damage, they simply kept putting us off. And THEY were given all the required paperwork they needed. These people are clowns. Maybe they should paint their faces as such, so hard working, trusting customers can see them, and their rotten insurance company coming... Not worthy of a one score. Bid fat ZERO.

I was in an accident about a month ago. Let's face it, the vast majority do not enjoy dealing with insurance. I have to say that the agent that handled my claim was incredible! He made the entire process so easy and really put my mind at ease through all of it. His name is Reid Y out of Indianapolis, IN area. He handled scheduling my vehicle from off for repairs and helping me get in a rental.

I strongly advise against using Progressive based on my recent experience. The billing practices felt misleading, particularly what appeared to be a “bait-and-switch” approach on pricing. When I attempted to cancel, I was provided with a “final bill,” only to receive an additional charge the very next day. This lack of transparency and consistency in billing is unacceptable and raises serious concerns about their internal processes and customer communication. At a minimum, I would expect clear, accurate, and final documentation when closing out an account—not multiple, conflicting charges after the fact. Based on this experience, I recommend proceeding with caution.

They don’t keep their word. They quoted me an agreement. I paid for multiple contracts. I get my mail at my mom’s house. They tried to increase my payment and add my stepfather by force. They sent me a letter saying I had a month to respond that was post dated I got it in the mail 37 days after it was dated. They forced new charges on me because I wouldn’t give them my stepfather’s personal information. When I didn’t pay and went with a new insurance company, they sent me to collections and my credit score took a 70-point hit. Worst experience I have had with an insurance company. Be warned.

They tell you a 6 month price pay up front. Then they got the email incorrect. For 6 months a bill that should have never existed was hitting my credit and as we all know credit is a lot easier to lose than gain so I finally pay the debt and ask to get email confirmation a couple times and the customer service lady hangs up on me.

Takes weeks to get a approval for work. Progressive makes fraudulent claims on your policy, telling me this happens all the time. I was forced to take vacation, car still will need more time (2 to 3 weeks??). So insurance is just a bunch of Fraud?
